Brazil rather playing themselves into trouble there. You can see as

:00:15.:00:20.

well, when Sweden pressurise the Brazil back line, they tend to make

:00:21.:00:21.

mistakes. Asliani, the Manchester City player,

:00:22.:00:29.

causing problems. You can see at the bottom of your

:00:30.:00:55.

picture, the Brazilian coach, right on the edge of his technical area.

:00:56.:01:04.

Cristiane just losing out. Sofia Jakobsson, the only player

:01:05.:01:24.

that Sweden have brought on sofa. They don't have too many more

:01:25.:01:36.

attacking options on the bench. Fridolina Rolfo is out of the

:01:37.:01:40.

competition after breaking a metatarsal, the curse of the

:01:41.:01:52.

metatarsals striking Sweden. The pace of the game has dropped again.

:01:53.:02:01.

You could see the Swedish formation there, five across the middle. They

:02:02.:02:06.

are well organised. It has frustrated Brazil. But even a player

:02:07.:02:16.

like Marta has not been able to find any joy between the lines. I think

:02:17.:02:29.

Marta was the intended recipient of that. They have kept the space

:02:30.:02:35.

between their back four and their midfield five and the front one

:02:36.:02:40.

quite tight. Brazil like to play in between the lines. They have not

:02:41.:02:44.

been able to do that. Credit to Pia Sundhage and Sweden. They were blown

:02:45.:02:51.

away, three down at half-time in the group game in which they eventually

:02:52.:02:57.

lost 5-1. But clearly, Pia Sundhage has looked at the video and learned

:02:58.:03:12.

from that. That makes a good coach. She seems to be a coach that players

:03:13.:03:16.

want to play for. And you can tell that. When you have such a good

:03:17.:03:23.

character as a manager, she knows how to manage players as well as

:03:24.:03:31.

coach them. Makes such a difference. They were runners-up in their own

:03:32.:03:36.

euros three years ago. They lost to Germany. There is no flag. Brazil

:03:37.:03:49.

were looking towards the assistant. Raphael had to concede the corner.

:03:50.:03:58.

She is onside. That is where Sweden can get in. It was good defending in

:03:59.:04:01.

the end. It the mother Sweden corner. And

:04:02.:04:18.

that is the cue for Fischer to move forward.

:04:19.:04:33.

Schelin is the target, and she wasn't too far away. She could have

:04:34.:04:42.

done better. This was a good corner from Asliani. That was close.

:04:43.:04:54.

Barbara was nowhere near. She didn't even move. It is only the Swedes'

:04:55.:05:08.

fourth effort on goal. All of those four chances have been clear-cut,

:05:09.:05:13.

where as many of Brazil's have been fairly wasteful.

:05:14.:05:39.

Much better from Sweden. Little triangles.

:05:40.:06:06.

The diet of long, diagonal balls has not really work for Brazil the

:06:07.:06:10.

longer the game has gone on. That was a change that Brazil made

:06:11.:06:38.

at half-time, but it didn't change the way they played. And already, we

:06:39.:06:51.

are ten minutes into the first period. And apart from a header from

:06:52.:06:58.

Shildon, neither side has looked like scoring. Bea comes off, to be

:06:59.:07:08.

replaced by Raquel Fernandes, who plays club football in China. Bea

:07:09.:07:20.

has worked really hard. There need to be a change to a different type

:07:21.:07:25.

of player. Raquel Fernandes will not hold the ball up. They do have

:07:26.:07:36.

Cristiane now, who can be the main striker. And they will play-off her.

:07:37.:07:50.

Lotta Schelin has worked so hard, the Swedish captain. Really

:07:51.:07:56.

sacrificed her own performance for the team effort.

:07:57.:08:24.

The flag is up. Racquel was looking to get on the end of that. There has

:08:25.:08:46.

been a noticeable lack of wit from Brazil at times. When they do win

:08:47.:08:52.

the ball, they can just the midfield area, which said the Swedes. Which

:08:53.:08:56.

Sweden are happy with, because that is where they have got all the

:08:57.:09:01.

bodies. When Brazil got their joy earlier, it was when they got the

:09:02.:09:06.

ball out wide. It was the lack of quality from the crosses.

:09:07.:09:23.

This may be Formiga's last chance for a gold medal, at the age of 38.

:09:24.:09:33.

Olympic odyssey started in Atlanta in 1996.

:09:34.:10:03.

We are going to see a Swedish change. Appelqvist comes off. And

:10:04.:10:25.

Olivia Schough comes on. Schough made her debut in 2013 around a

:10:26.:10:30.

Euros, which were played in Sweden. A former Bayern Munich player, who

:10:31.:10:37.

are now the pre-eminent team in Germany, having won the women's

:10:38.:10:39.

Bundesliga for the last two years. That was a tad effort. -- a tired

:10:40.:10:55.

effort. Both sides are looking increasingly

:10:56.:11:24.

weary. Jakobsson has got the free kick.

:11:25.:11:52.

That is half-time in extra time. In fact, the whistle has been given for

:11:53.:12:00.

a free kick. They will have one added minute.

:12:01.:12:14.

Brazil may have one final chance before we turn around.

:12:15.:12:30.

Again, it is a rather aimless delivery. Just a long, hopeful ball.

:12:31.:12:37.

It is a tired ball. Yeah. Brazil have done that too many times,

:12:38.:12:44.

straight balls. You need at least a diagonal run. No real end product.

:12:45.:13:01.

That is half-time. So, we are 15 minutes away from a penalty shoot

:13:02.:13:10.

out, some. Any sign of winning goal? We thought this might happen, didn't

:13:11.:13:14.

we? I think the fact that Sweden have only scored three goals in the

:13:15.:13:18.

whole tournament and the fact that Brazil's goals seem to have dried

:13:19.:13:22.

up, we thought it could go there. Especially when we saw how Sweden

:13:23.:13:26.

were set up. We thought this could happen, and it has. I think we are

:13:27.:13:30.

going all the witter penalties, I'm honest. Well, the Brazilian crowd

:13:31.:13:37.

built up a terrific atmosphere at the start of the game. But I think

:13:38.:13:42.

they have become frustrated and anxious as well, and maybe that has

:13:43.:13:46.

transmitted to the players. Maybe, because I thought Brazil started off

:13:47.:13:50.

brightly with the way they pressurised Sweden. They were

:13:51.:13:53.

causing mistakes early on and getting the ball out wide. They

:13:54.:13:57.

didn't have that final ball, but they looked lively. As the game has

:13:58.:14:05.

gone on, maybe they did expend too much energy early on. Sweden have

:14:06.:14:11.

stuck to their game plan, and could have probably scored goals

:14:12.:14:17.

themselves. Well, Sweden will have no fears about what is coming up,

:14:18.:14:22.

having beaten the United States in the quarterfinal. That was the

:14:23.:14:27.

ultimate pressure game for them. They came through that in the

:14:28.:14:32.

penalty shoot out. And even in a semifinal, it is wrong to say all

:14:33.:14:38.

the pressure is on Brazil, but I suppose the crowd developed that

:14:39.:14:42.

sort of situation. Of course, and it is how they deal with that pressure.

:14:43.:14:46.

Up to now, they have dealt with it well, but this is a semifinal.

:14:47.:14:51.

Sweden are a very experienced team, probably used to being in this

:14:52.:14:56.

situation more than Brazil. But a penalty shoot out, it is the old

:14:57.:15:02.

cliche, but anything can happen. Well, we have 15 minutes to avoid

:15:03.:15:04.

that possibility. Rubensson really shone, in

:15:05.:15:32.

particular in the first half, when Brazil exerted plenty of pressure.

:15:33.:15:41.

The cross was overhit. In fact it was Raquel's cross. Marta wanted

:15:42.:15:50.

that whipped in The Swedes appeal for handball. It

:15:51.:16:15.

seemed to bobble up and hit the arm of the Brazilian striker.

:16:16.:16:33.

Sembrant, yet again, with another block for Sweden.

:16:34.:16:44.

She wanted to bounce that off somebody. They all made the same run

:16:45.:16:48.

forward. Nobody just stood still. Brazil showing intent at the start

:16:49.:17:05.

of this second period. Alves with another shot which doesn't really

:17:06.:17:10.

test Lindahl. It was going wide any way. A weak effort.

:17:11.:18:06.

Sweden play their way out of trouble once again.

:18:07.:18:42.

It's the side netting. That was a massive chance for Sweden. A good

:18:43.:18:53.

break. Fantastic play from Schelin to win the ball back. A good ball

:18:54.:18:59.

into Schelin. Could she have crossed that first time. She took a touch,

:19:00.:19:02.

another touch. Tried to get herself a yard. Could only hit it into the

:19:03.:19:08.

side netting. She scuffed it in the end. Enough pressure from the

:19:09.:19:10.

defender. Jakobsson made the turn, but that's

:19:11.:19:15.

as far as it went. Another high, hopeful ball, which

:19:16.:20:38.

Lindahl will be happy to see for the remaining ten minutes or so.

:20:39.:20:54.

No free kick given. Now the free kick. Vadao, the coach, is furious.

:20:55.:21:10.

I think that was a foul. She got her body in between the ball. I wonder

:21:11.:21:15.

about the Fischer tackle early on. Shh... It was a bad touch from her

:21:16.:21:20.

initially. It did look like she fouled the player to get the ball

:21:21.:21:26.

back. The referee didn't give. It the crowd are furious.

:21:27.:21:57.

Marta has barely seen the ball during extra time.

:21:58.:22:11.

Marta makes the block. She may require some treatment. In that

:22:12.:22:20.

situation, would you want Marta in a more central area? Yeah, of course.

:22:21.:22:24.

She has that free role where she can roam and get on the ball. I think

:22:25.:22:29.

the only way she's finding the space is trying to go out wide. It's a

:22:30.:22:33.

real hit to the back of the head there.

:22:34.:22:37.

Yeah you want her centrally. If the ball's going to break, you want it

:22:38.:22:44.

to fall at Marta's feet. She hasn't really had that clear-cut chance.

:22:45.:22:54.

Brazil have so much flair going forward, but tactically they're not

:22:55.:22:59.

very astute. They carried on with the same long ball. Sweden have

:23:00.:23:04.

dealt with it really easily. Coming into central areas, where Sweden are

:23:05.:23:16.

packing out the midfield. Marta is back on the field of play.

:23:17.:23:51.

Rackel had gone too soon -- Raquel. Both teams absolutely shattered now.

:23:52.:24:26.

Can this youngster provide a moment of magic?

:24:27.:24:59.

Alves was pulled back. Is this Marta's moment? Big, big chance for

:25:00.:25:10.

Marta. She's going straight for the ball. It's a definite foul. Got away

:25:11.:25:22.

from her and she tripped her up. It's probably a tired tackle. Alves

:25:23.:25:30.

has put herself about right from the very start. She has. I've been

:25:31.:25:35.

impressed, going forward, she's excellent. But she is prepared to

:25:36.:25:40.

put in the hard work as well. Dahlkvist receives a yellow card.

:25:41.:25:47.

Lindahl will want all the angles covered here.

:25:48.:25:59.

The whole of the Maracana in a ferment. Flash bulbs going off all

:26:00.:26:13.

around the stadium. It will be Andressina or Marta. My money's on

:26:14.:26:19.

Marta. Mine too! I don't think she'll let anyone get anywhere near

:26:20.:26:20.

it. The Swedish wall, a very weary

:26:21.:26:35.

Swedish wall, is being dragged back ten yards.

:26:36.:26:41.

We've seen Marta down the years score so many free kicks from this

:26:42.:26:45.

sort of area. If they score now, surely Brazil are

:26:46.:27:08.

in the Gold Medal game. Lynned Lynn saw it all the way. --

:27:09.:27:18.

Lindahl. She was trying to curl it around the wall, but couldn't get

:27:19.:27:22.

enough whip on it. Managed to get it round the wall, but it's quite a

:27:23.:27:26.

standard save for Lindahl in the end. It's got to be better than that

:27:27.:27:35.

to beat a good keeper like her. The sense of anticlimax around the

:27:36.:27:39.

Maracana. Lindahl seemed to clout herself on the wood work as well. So

:27:40.:27:48.

there'll be added time at the end of extra time. Of course, as she's the

:27:49.:27:54.

goalkeeper, the referee can't make her leave the field of play for

:27:55.:28:03.

treatment. Sweden may need her for penalties in a few moments.

:28:04.:28:11.

Especially after her heroics against USA. I wonder if the two coaches are

:28:12.:28:21.

formulating a list of penalty takers? You imagine it would be

:28:22.:28:28.

pretty similar to what we saw in the quarter finals, though, of course,

:28:29.:28:31.

Marta missed her kick against Australia. I think she's a big

:28:32.:28:36.

enough player to step up again and say, "I'll take it." And put it

:28:37.:28:41.

right. Both goalkeepers are very good at penalties as well. It will

:28:42.:28:43.

be interesting to see. There's still time for either side

:28:44.:28:53.

to win this game in open play. Brazil started this game on the

:28:54.:29:13.

attack and that's how they're finishing.

:29:14.:29:31.

They've not got too much wrong throughout the day.

:29:32.:29:45.

Berglund comes on to replace Samuelsson, who's been magnificent.

:29:46.:29:56.

But possibly Berglund isitok a penalty -- is a penalty taker. I was

:29:57.:30:01.

going to say that. Pressure coming on just to take a penalty.

:30:02.:30:10.

Three minutes of added time. Brilliant saved by the goalkeeper to

:30:11.:30:26.

recover! And then cleared away by Seger. It was Lindell's initial

:30:27.:30:39.

error, but she recovered superbly. She looked relieved after that. It

:30:40.:30:44.

was an initial error. As the ball came in, it was a long, lofted ball

:30:45.:30:48.

and she couldn't get any power on it, but what a save. You concede

:30:49.:30:52.

defenders around her, helping her out. Sweden have got a fantastic

:30:53.:31:02.

team work ethic and spirit. Mata must have thought she had won it

:31:03.:31:03.

there. -- Marta. The one final chance for Sweden to

:31:04.:31:27.

provide a sting in the tail here. It is Brazil's throw. We have seen

:31:28.:31:56.

both Marta and Schelin, two of the world's great players, not really

:31:57.:32:03.

feature positively throughout the game as a whole. But someone will be

:32:04.:32:07.

a hero by the end of this game. Schelin will be penalised. Brazil

:32:08.:32:40.

may have one final chance. That should be that. And there is

:32:41.:33:21.

the full-time whistle. Some 90 minutes and extra time could not

:33:22.:33:28.

separate either of these sites. And Brazil and Sweden were both face a

:33:29.:33:32.

penalty shoot out to decide who goes through to the gold medal game. What

:33:33.:33:38.

an interesting game that was. It was attack versus defence at times, Mo

:33:39.:33:42.

Brazil having lots of possession and lots of chances, but just didn't

:33:43.:33:47.

have that quality, whether it is the final cross or the final shot on

:33:48.:33:52.

target. Sweden got their game plan spot on. They made sure it was

:33:53.:33:56.

difficult for Brazil to break them down. They kept the gaps between

:33:57.:33:59.

their defence and midfield tight so Brazil couldn't find them, and

:34:00.:34:04.

created chances for themselves. They probably should have scored. They

:34:05.:34:08.

created the more clear-cut chances, and it has gone to a penalty shoot

:34:09.:34:12.

out. Of course, we saw Marta miss a penalty in Brazil as Mike win

:34:13.:34:16.

against Australia in the quarterfinals. But as you said,

:34:17.:34:21.

surely she will step up again. She will. She is a big player. She's

:34:22.:34:25.

used to the big occasions and without a doubt, I am sure she will

:34:26.:34:31.

take a penalty. The best players miss penalties, but it is how they

:34:32.:34:34.

respond to that. I think she will be confident enough to step up. Sweden.

:34:35.:34:40.

With all sorts of mind games and other antics during their shoot out

:34:41.:34:49.

win against the US. They did. I think it was dark list with the

:34:50.:34:58.

final penalty. -- Dahlkvist. The American tried to put her off, and

:34:59.:35:01.

she just laughed and scored the penalty. So I think mentally, Sweden

:35:02.:35:06.

are very tough. They are used to these sorts of situations. But you

:35:07.:35:09.

just can't call penalty shoot outs. It is such a difficult one. Doesn't

:35:10.:35:15.

matter who has played well in the game, it's a lottery. Well, Pia

:35:16.:35:20.

Sundhage lost a World Cup final on a penalty shoot out when she was in

:35:21.:35:25.

charge of the USA against Japan. So she has seen both sides. It is such

:35:26.:35:29.

an awful way to go out. You have played 90 minutes and extra time,

:35:30.:35:34.

and it comes down to who can hold their nerve. It doesn't matter if

:35:35.:35:37.

you are the best player in the world, they miss penalties. It is

:35:38.:35:42.

just on the day. If the goalkeeper dives the right way, I know they

:35:43.:35:45.

have got all the analysis now when they look back and see what players

:35:46.:35:49.

take penalties and what awaits the they go, so they guessed before the

:35:50.:35:56.

penalty taker has even stood up. We saw a shot of Barbara, the Brazilian

:35:57.:36:00.

goalkeeper. She had very little to do throughout the whole game. And

:36:01.:36:04.

now she has to be absolutely focused. I think goalkeepers love

:36:05.:36:09.

this situation. They love being the hero. If they let a penalty in, that

:36:10.:36:14.

is expected. If they save one, they are the hero of the game. They will

:36:15.:36:21.

be looking forward to this. When you speak to goalkeepers, this is what

:36:22.:36:25.

they love. It is pressure for the player taking the penalty, but the

:36:26.:36:30.

goalkeeper loves it. Well, Vadao, the Brazilian coach, was there with

:36:31.:36:35.

his team. And Marta was part of the conversation as well. And Pia

:36:36.:36:44.

Sundhage is in the midst of that huddle. Have you been in this sort

:36:45.:36:51.

of situation? Not for England, but for club level. It is a difficult

:36:52.:36:56.

situation because as a player, you have do want to take the penalty.

:36:57.:37:00.

But all said, the manager had to have confidence in you. I am sure

:37:01.:37:04.

they will have practised penalties in the build-up to this tournament

:37:05.:37:07.

and throughout the tournament. So they will know who their penalty

:37:08.:37:12.

takers are. You have just got to feel it on the day as a player.

:37:13.:37:18.

Well, neither of these nations have won an Olympic gold medal in women's

:37:19.:37:31.

football, so the stakes are so high. Lindahl made one good save at the

:37:32.:37:35.

end to deny Marta. And while her team soaked up so much pressure

:37:36.:37:41.

throughout the game, she wasn't really tested as much as she should

:37:42.:37:46.

have been. She was a sweeper keeper, if you like. So when the long balls

:37:47.:37:52.

were coming in, she was there and in the right place at the right time.

:37:53.:37:56.

When she was needed to pull off that excellent save, yes, she probably

:37:57.:38:00.

made a mess of the initial clearance, but she was there with an

:38:01.:38:04.

excellent save. You could see the amount of defenders around, helping

:38:05.:38:08.

her out. They have such a good work ethic, Sweden. They are a team who

:38:09.:38:17.

didn't really impress in the group stage, but winning a tournament is

:38:18.:38:20.

often about picking at the right time. And they, like Brazil, are now

:38:21.:38:27.

a penalty shoot out away from the gold medal game on Friday. And for

:38:28.:38:32.

the third time in the afternoon, Marta and Schelin meet to toss the

:38:33.:38:40.

coin. I don't think it really matters which end they shoot too,

:38:41.:38:44.

there will be Brazilians behind every goal! That was nice. Neither

:38:45.:38:54.

of those great players has an Olympic medal, and this may be their

:38:55.:38:56.

final chance. So Hedvig Lindahl off Chelsea, and

:38:57.:39:13.

Barbara, the Brazilian goalkeeper Matt who doesn't have a club

:39:14.:39:22.

currently, either of those could be the heroine in the next ten minutes.

:39:23.:39:43.

After no penalty shoot outs in 20 years, of Olympic women's football,

:39:44.:39:49.

we now have our third inside a week. The referee is making it very clear,

:39:50.:40:14.

stay on your line. I think there was a bit of controversy over Barbara in

:40:15.:40:21.

the last penalty shoot out. She was on the edge of the six yard box for

:40:22.:40:25.

one of them! I was trying to be nice! It looks like Brazil will take

:40:26.:40:31.

the first penalty. And it is you know who. Well, she missed against

:40:32.:40:44.

Australia. What will Marta doing here today?

:40:45.:40:58.

The first penalty, and Marta just about scores. You can see what it

:40:59.:41:11.

means. What a player, to step up. First penalty. It was quite poor, to

:41:12.:41:15.

be honest. Lindahl had her hand to it. It was probably just enough in

:41:16.:41:22.

the corner. Lindahl will be disappointed that she couldn't push

:41:23.:41:25.

that around the post. But to step up, it shows what a person she is.

:41:26.:41:30.

That was Marta's Stuart Pearce moment. Now, another legend, Lotta

:41:31.:41:41.

Schelin. Against Barbara. That is a terrific penalty, to silence the

:41:42.:41:47.

Maracana. Now, that's how to take a penalty. Absolute confidence. Top

:41:48.:41:56.

corner. Goalkeeper had no chance. Dive to the right way. So Marta and

:41:57.:42:01.

Schelin both score. It is Christie and, who came on

:42:02.:42:20.

during extra time -- Cristiane, a very experienced striker. And

:42:21.:42:34.

Lindahl says! -- slaves. You can sense the noise being sucked out of

:42:35.:42:39.

the Maracana. She gets the right way, Lindahl. I was speaking about

:42:40.:42:43.

Christianity why she was not coming on. She didn't do well when she came

:42:44.:42:47.

on. I don't think she was very confident. And that penalty just

:42:48.:43:02.

showed that. Very weak. Kosovare Asliani can now consolidate Sweden's

:43:03.:43:05.

lead in the penalty shoot out, or potential lead. The Chelsea

:43:06.:43:17.

goalkeeper saved. Now it is the Manchester City forward. And Barbara

:43:18.:43:33.

saves as well! Sweden's chance to go ahead, and again, the goalkeeper

:43:34.:43:35.

gets the right way. We'd penalty, though. -- a week penalty. So it's

:43:36.:43:47.

as you were. Andressa Alves of Barcelona, with the third penalty

:43:48.:43:55.

for Brazil. Scored twice against Sweden in the group stage, but this

:43:56.:44:08.

is a very different occasion. Terrific penalty. She has had a good

:44:09.:44:17.

game, deserve that. Right in the corner, didn't give Lindahl any

:44:18.:44:23.

chance. She seemed very confident going up to the ball as well.

:44:24.:44:32.

Actually, that wasn't that far away, looking at it from a different

:44:33.:44:33.

angle. Relief for Vadao for now. Seger, another one of Sweden's

:44:34.:44:53.

really big players. That's epitomised by the way she took that

:44:54.:44:57.

penalty. She's a real leader. Excellent today, worked so, so hard.

:44:58.:45:09.

Just passed it into the net. So 2-2 with two penalties each to come.

:45:10.:45:19.

Here is Rafaelle. She's one of the central defenders.

:45:20.:45:29.

This, the penultimate penalty for Brazil. It's another very good

:45:30.:45:34.

penalty. Very good penalty. Yeah, I don't

:45:35.:45:39.

think Lindahl could do anything about that one.

:45:40.:45:46.

Right in the corner. Again the goalkeepers are guessing the right

:45:47.:45:49.

way. If it's in the corner like that, with enough power, you don't

:45:50.:45:53.

have any chance. There's real pressure on Sweden now,

:45:54.:46:03.

because Nila Fischer is being sent forward for their fourth penalty.

:46:04.:46:08.

If she doesn't score, Brazil will have a shot to win it.

:46:09.:46:23.

And once again, the experienced players have been nerveless. They

:46:24.:46:30.

really have. They've stepped up. That was actually a really good run

:46:31.:46:34.

up. It was very straight and didn't show which way she was going.

:46:35.:46:38.

Sometimes you can see if the player's body opens up it's easier

:46:39.:46:43.

for a goalkeeper to guess. This is effectively sudden death.

:46:44.:46:53.

One penalty each to come. It's the youngster, Andressina, 21 years of

:46:54.:46:59.

age. What a moment for her. Lindahl

:47:00.:47:07.

saves! And Sweden are one penalty away. You've got to feel sorry for

:47:08.:47:18.

her. She's the new Marta, but again, I spoke about your body position,

:47:19.:47:21.

that position was saying she was going that way. Good save from

:47:22.:47:31.

Lindahl. Good, solid punch away. Well, there'll be tears. The tears

:47:32.:47:38.

have already started. There'll be tears of joy for Sweden if this one

:47:39.:47:40.

goes in. Can Barbara save Brazil? Lisa

:47:41.:47:52.

Dahlkvist scored the winning penalty against the United States. She can

:47:53.:48:02.

put Sweden in the final here. And she's done it! Sweden are into the

:48:03.:48:09.

final. Brazil's quest for Olympic gold is over. And the nation who are

:48:10.:48:16.

only here because Great Britain failed to compete are into the

:48:17.:48:22.

Olympic final. Dahlkvist, cool, calm, collected. You spoke about the

:48:23.:48:25.

experienced players. They've stepped up and done exactly what they needed

:48:26.:48:32.

to do. That again is another tough, tough time to take that penalty. Did

:48:33.:48:39.

it against Hope Solo. She's done it again. You've got to feel for the

:48:40.:48:41.

Brazilian players. It's heart breaking for them. Obviously the

:48:42.:48:45.

Swedish players, you can see the difference in both the camps. The

:48:46.:48:52.

wild cards may be going all the way. But there is despair for Marta and

:48:53.:48:57.

Brazil. Sweden are into the Olympic final. They've beaten Brazil 4-3 on

:48:58.:49:07.

penalties. STUDIO: What a story for Nigel and

:49:08.:49:12.

Sue to describe. Look at the face of the Brazilians, trying to be

:49:13.:49:15.

consoled after missing that crucial penalty. Sweden, we saw them the

:49:16.:49:20.

other day on BBC Four, get the better of USA from the spot and

:49:21.:49:24.

remember, after that game, Hope Solo said the Swedes were cowards. But

:49:25.:49:29.

they went into the semifinals. They took on the hosts, Brazil. It's

:49:30.:49:34.

worth reiterating, as Nigel and Sue were saying, that really in Brazil,

:49:35.:49:37.

there have been a few moments which have really captured the imagination

:49:38.:49:42.

in these Olympic Games, the judo gold, the pole vault gold, but it's

:49:43.:49:45.

all about the football. Football is king here by some distance.

:49:46.:49:54.

Brazilian Willoughby not be in the Gold Medal match in the Maracana on

:49:55.:49:59.

Friday. Sweden go through. They'll face either Canada or Germany. We'll

:50:00.:50:03.

tell you about that second semifinal later on. The big story here in Rio,

:50:04.:50:11.

on day 11 of the Games, is that penalty has sent Sweden through to

:50:12.:50:15.

the Gold Medal match. Brazil are out. We'll bring you up to date with

:50:16.:50:22.

everything. Give you some headlines, some news, some details of exactly

:50:23.:50:26.

what's happening down here on Copacabana beach. Now we have some

:50:27.:50:31.

drama at the sailing. Shirley Robertson is watching. We've had a

:50:32.:50:37.

gold today. Is the drama for Giles Scott are we talking about the 470

:50:38.:50:41.

race for the women? We're on the 470 women's course. Great Britain's

:50:42.:50:49.

Hannah Mills and Clarke have gone round their first mark. They're in

:50:50.:50:53.

third spot. Their rivals are behind them. If they hold that position, in

:50:54.:50:57.

25 minutes they could well have won gold. Very exciting and we're dying

:50:58.:51:03.

to follow the action. We knew that Giles Scott was guaranteed the gold

:51:04.:51:09.

today. But it's worth putting into context the expectation in that

:51:10.:51:14.

class as well. Because this is a four-time gold for Ben Ainslie and

:51:15.:51:17.

Giles came here with all the knowledge of that obviously and all

:51:18.:51:21.

the expectation on his shoulders. He's delivered when he needed. To It

:51:22.:51:26.

must be a weird kind of stress, when everyone just assumes you're going

:51:27.:51:30.

to, but you still have to. It's a real cred tote Giles. He wasn't

:51:31.:51:34.

selected for the one spot in Weymouth. Sir Ben Ainslie got that

:51:35.:51:38.

spot. He was ready to win then. So it's been a long time coming for

:51:39.:51:44.

him. He's an amazing athlete. He's a real gentleman. He has won

:51:45.:51:49.

everything since. The sense of relief when it was finally his is

:51:50.:51:54.

immense. It was a real special moment when he finally crossed that

:51:55.:51:58.

line. Hopefully, we've got another gold coming up. We height have to

:51:59.:52:04.

call it "doing a Giles" when you win so convincingly you don't even have

:52:05.:52:07.

to do the last race. You know you've done well when you start naming

:52:08.:52:10.

something after you. One more as well, in terms of the regatta

:52:11.:52:15.

overall, I know you say could be more success, how would you judge it

:52:16.:52:22.

from a Team GB perspective? Well, we have Nick domecy's silver, Giles's

:52:23.:52:26.

gold here. I don't think there will be much more coming, but

:52:27.:52:29.

opportunities later in the week. Pretty good, I'd say. They hoped for

:52:30.:52:35.

four medals. To come away with two golds and a silver, they'll be

:52:36.:52:38.

chuffed. This has been a phenomenally difficult sailing

:52:39.:52:41.

venue, so many variables. The track is continually moving. I think only

:52:42.:52:46.

the real best of the best have managed to deal with that, both

:52:47.:52:50.

mentally and tactically. Shirley, people are watching at home on BBC

:52:51.:52:54.

Four, before we let you go, what's the time table for the 470 races?

:52:55.:52:58.

What times and races should we look out for this evening? Well, it's

:52:59.:53:02.

happening right now. This is their final fleet race. It's not being

:53:03.:53:07.

filmed by the Olympic broadcasters, but we are going to do our best to

:53:08.:53:10.

keep you updated. Keep coming back to me. OK. That is an invitation we

:53:11.:53:16.

cannot resist. Thank you very much. It's not being covered by the

:53:17.:53:22.

Olympic cameras, but Shirley is on the water round the corner. We'll

:53:23.:53:26.

keep you posted on whether the 470 women can follow in Giles Scott's

:53:27.:53:30.

foot steps, or his boat, I suppose! And manage to do the business and

:53:31.:53:35.

bring home a Gold Medal. Day 11, gold for Giles Scott. Let's bring

:53:36.:53:47.

you the rest of the headlines: In gymnastic, Amy Tinkler has won a

:53:48.:53:51.

surprise bronze in the floor final. Her first individual Olympic final.

:53:52.:53:56.

Simone Biles of the USA took the gold. Just been talking about it

:53:57.:54:03.

with Shirley. He knew it was guaranteed. After this evening's

:54:04.:54:06.

medal race, it was confirmed, Giles Scott has taken gold in the Finn

:54:07.:54:12.

Class here in Rio. We've been watching it, drama in the

:54:13.:54:17.

Maracana, in the women's football, Sweden are through to the Gold Medal

:54:18.:54:20.

match. They won a penalty shootout a few moments ago. Germany and Canada

:54:21.:54:24.

are involved in a second semifinal very shortly.

:54:25.:54:32.

And in today's early session in the athletics, Great Britain's holly

:54:33.:54:38.

Bradstock has qualified -- Holly Bradshaw has qualified for the final

:54:39.:54:42.

in the pole vault. If that can match anywhere near the

:54:43.:54:47.

drama of the men's pole vault competition yesterday, we're in for

:54:48.:54:49.

something rather special. Right, thank you for joining us on BBC

:54:50.:54:54.

Four. Thank you to - oh, a pigeon walking through the set. Hello young

:54:55.:54:58.

man. Sorry, you can't see that. But it's nice to have a bit of live bird

:54:59.:55:03.

based action. Can we see the pigeon? Just down there.

:55:04.:55:09.

#12k34r there he is. Two! A brace of pigeons. Live on BBC Four. There you

:55:10.:55:13.

go. Sorry got distracted by the pigeons. Any way, we're live on BBC

:55:14.:55:18.

Four, plenty more to come in the next few hours, including all of

:55:19.:55:19.

this. We shall be live at the beach

:55:20.:55:28.

volleyball shortly. It's the semifinal stage in the men's and

:55:29.:55:31.

women's competition. There are Brazilian favourites in both

:55:32.:55:35.

matches. It will be bonkers at the other end of Copacabana. Later on,

:55:36.:55:42.

we're off to the diving. Can Great Britain's Jack Lauher get a second

:55:43.:55:47.

Gold Medal? He goes in the three metre spring board final. There's

:55:48.:55:53.

been controversy in the ring today. Top quality boxing later. Great

:55:54.:56:07.

Britain's Joshua Buatsi is boxing. Let's show you exactly how the time

:56:08.:56:09.

table pans out: When we finish with the diving we

:56:10.:57:24.

will bring you the Joshua Buatsi fight as well.

:57:25.:57:33.

This is what's on where at the moment: the men's horizontal bar

:57:34.:57:42.

final is over on BBC One. Britain's Niall Wilson has qualified for this,

:57:43.:57:46.

the first British man to qualify for the horizontal bar final. That's

:57:47.:57:50.

over on BBC One right now. It has been an incredible gymnastics

:57:51.:57:55.

competition for Team GB. Just a reminder, on the red button, can you

:57:56.:57:59.

see all the boxing live as well. We've got a miniature crowd here.

:58:00.:58:05.

There they are. Give us a wave down the camera, you're live on the BBC.

:58:06.:58:08.

There they are. Look at that. They're enjoying themselves. Do you

:58:09.:58:12.

like beach volleyball? Yeah. You do. It's a good job. Here's a guide to

:58:13.:58:15.

the sport that we've been loving on BBC Four.

:58:16.:58:24.

Beach volleyball made its Olympic debut in Atlanta in 1996. In the 20

:58:25.:58:31.

years since the United States and Brazil have dominated the sport.

:58:32.:58:35.

Matches take place outdoors on a sand court, 16 metres long and eight

:58:36.:58:40.

metres wide. There are only two members of the beach volleyball team

:58:41.:58:43.

and substitutions are not allowed. The object of the game is to hit the

:58:44.:58:47.

ball over the net, trying to land it in the opponents' side of the court.

:58:48.:58:51.

To keep a ball in play, a team can hit it up to three times on their

:58:52.:58:54.

side of the court, before it must be returned. Every point played in

:58:55.:58:58.

beach volleyball scores one point and matches are the best of three

:58:59.:59:02.

sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points. If a third is

:59:03.:59:06.

required, the winner of this set is the first team to reach 15, however

:59:07.:59:11.

a team must always win a set by at least two points. There are many

:59:12.:59:15.

different shots in beach volleyball. A bump pass is a shot using the

:59:16.:59:19.

forearms with hands together to direct the ball. It's used to set

:59:20.:59:22.

the ball for another player to play an attacking shot. A dig is where

:59:23.:59:27.

the ball is saved with any part of the body, but normally using the

:59:28.:59:31.

arms and hands. A spike is where a player jumps and strikes the ball

:59:32.:59:35.

with one hand as an attacking hit. A dink is played just over the net or

:59:36.:59:39.

blockers hand instead of spiking. It's legal as long as the player

:59:40.:59:43.

does it with closed fingers. The preliminary phase sees teams compete

:59:44.:59:47.

in pools, with the top teams from each pool advancing to the knockout

:59:48.:59:50.

phases in their quest for Olympic Medals.

:59:51.:59:54.

We'll be showing you plenty of that on BBC Four. We're there in a

:59:55.:59:58.

moment. Lots of you at home don't believe that we're live in Rio and

:59:59.:00:02.

on Copacabana. These four are all the way from Guernsey to enjoy the

:00:03.:00:07.

Olympics. Good afternoon. Hi. Run us through your names James. Tim.

:00:08.:00:12.

Jackie. Hugh. Have you watched much of the Olympics so far? Quite a lot.

:00:13.:00:17.

What's the highlight? Pole vault, tennis. Andy Murray was fantastic.

:00:18.:00:22.

Last night we were in the saidup for the pole vault, when Brazil won

:00:23.:00:26.

gold. That was amazing. Obviously, you add to that list now being live

:00:27.:00:27.

on BBC Four? Oh, yeah. Love the bit Glyndwr on Coco

:00:28.:00:43.

Vandeweghe the Google cabana Beach, can you confirm for the BBC for

:00:44.:00:47.

audience, look down the camera. And so it is Google cabana. It is Google

:00:48.:00:57.

Bonner and it's brilliant. We will have no more of this rubbish. Thank

:00:58.:01:02.

you. Enjoy the rest of the Olympics. Now we will go live to the beach

:01:03.:01:05.

volleyball. Write down the other end of the beach. This is the Brazilian

:01:06.:01:12.

top seeds, Larissa and Talita taking on a Laura Ludwig and Keira Valcke

:01:13.:01:21.

Horst -- Keira Walkenhorst. They came from a set down last game, it

:01:22.:01:25.

was incredible and assured we'll build gently for you live on BBC

:01:26.:01:29.

Four. Let's join in the first set with Charlie Broome.

:01:30.:01:47.

COMMENTATOR: For someone so experienced, I can

:01:48.:01:54.

only assume she was looking for a touch because it was at least 30

:01:55.:01:59.

centimetres out of play. I agree, you know when you make contact as a

:02:00.:02:05.

player if that ball is clean contact, you've done that ball so

:02:06.:02:09.

many times, lots of times you have a good feeling or if that was in or

:02:10.:02:13.

out and as long as it was, my guess is that she was hoping for a touch.

:02:14.:02:18.

For such an experienced pair it is an inexperienced coal. That is one

:02:19.:02:24.

concern you have for Brazil, can they deal with the pressure? Apsley,

:02:25.:02:29.

that has always been a question once the Olympics were named to be in Rio

:02:30.:02:34.

the beach volleyball kind of went, wow, this is not only is Brazil

:02:35.:02:41.

known for volleyball and beach volleyball, but how well can they

:02:42.:02:45.

handle the weight of the pressure of it being in their backyard? If you

:02:46.:02:50.

didn't join us for the quarterfinals the other day, the Brazilian pair

:02:51.:02:58.

were made to work very hard against the Swiss number 17 seeds, they

:02:59.:03:03.

saved three match points, how they saved the third I haven't worked

:03:04.:03:08.

out. It one of the most memorable that -- matches of beach volleyball.

:03:09.:03:14.

We will be very lucky if this one reaches those sorts of heights.

:03:15.:03:21.

Switzerland put the pressure on Larissa and Talita in a quarterfinal

:03:22.:03:29.

match. No question, they survived in advance, but with the help of the

:03:30.:03:33.

Passion of the 12,000 that were there in attendance. Ludwig, lovely

:03:34.:03:43.

touch from her. One of the aspects you will find other sites which goes

:03:44.:03:46.

on, if you are not up to speed, sites which every seven points, we

:03:47.:03:51.

have a technical time-out when the total points reach 21 in the first

:03:52.:03:56.

and second set and there is one time-out per team which they use to

:03:57.:04:00.

take the wind out of the opponents sales. If they go on that will call

:04:01.:04:05.

timer and all the momentum swings their way. -- time-out and hope. The

:04:06.:04:16.

pass gives the advantage to Brazil. Talita makes no mistake. Both sides

:04:17.:04:27.

are technically so well-trained that this, Walkenhorst was desperately

:04:28.:04:32.

extended on that, but not an oversight type of play that you want

:04:33.:04:36.

to see in a semifinal match. Things like that will cost you much more

:04:37.:04:41.

against a team like Larissa and Talita. The key here for Germany is

:04:42.:04:53.

to try and keep the crowd quiet, the Swiss did it in the quarterfinal and

:04:54.:04:55.

it's nearly came off for them. What are put away by Talita. That is

:04:56.:05:12.

the type of setting we are used to seeing from Keira Walkenhorst but

:05:13.:05:16.

Talita scoops and delivers. Walkenhorst put away the Spike and

:05:17.:05:36.

the early tactic from Brazil is to serve to the Germany number one,

:05:37.:05:39.

Walkenhorst. Talita being asked to do a lot of

:05:40.:06:01.

spiking, and so far she is operating at 50%. Six spikes, three points.

:06:02.:06:10.

The first miss coming early on because she's been lasted -- been

:06:11.:06:15.

good in the last couple of points. They have two is served of

:06:16.:06:19.

Walkenhorst, so you can tell their strategy is to pick on her right

:06:20.:06:23.

away and see if they can somehow extend a gap early on as we exchange

:06:24.:06:31.

points back and forth. Larissa and Talita strategically setting up an

:06:32.:06:36.

angle blog on her and going after her consistently. Find the line.

:06:37.:06:46.

Discussing the challenge, but having just Brown won early on it would be

:06:47.:06:56.

ill-advised to challenge that. What a great ball by Walkenhorst, finding

:06:57.:07:09.

the backline. Again, Talita puts away the Spike. I wonder how much

:07:10.:07:17.

longer they will persevere with the serving to the Brazil number two.

:07:18.:07:22.

Great ball by Talita the goal crossbody. That is an aspect of

:07:23.:07:30.

Ludwig's play, not afraid to put the ball over second touch or even first

:07:31.:07:36.

touch if the situation needs it. When it presents itself, the Germans

:07:37.:07:38.

are looking to score very quickly whether it is an Laura Ludwig's on

:07:39.:07:45.

one or signature play of hers or if it is on to, they know that they

:07:46.:07:49.

want to put the ball to the sand as quickly as possible. One thing about

:07:50.:08:00.

Talita is she pulls the trigger and then continues to rise, it is almost

:08:01.:08:04.

as if she has a second booster that jump. She swings and there is almost

:08:05.:08:10.

a bit of rise that happens after that creating such difficult angles

:08:11.:08:18.

to defend. The dig from Larissa and she puts away the crosscourt, it is

:08:19.:08:23.

Germany that are under pressure early on in the semifinal. Larissa

:08:24.:08:34.

is so tough because her vision is extraordinary. It is like she has a

:08:35.:08:38.

thousand eyes rather than just two in her head. She can seesaw much of

:08:39.:08:42.

the court and find a way to put it where the aunt. Can see so much.

:08:43.:08:52.

Where they can't. We are two points away from a technical time-out.

:08:53.:09:00.

Walkenhorst Prydie taped up -- is pretty taped up. She has been quite

:09:01.:09:03.

banged up in this qualification process. Finally gets the reward for

:09:04.:09:10.

going at Larissa, sorry, Talita, the entire time. That one dying on her.

:09:11.:09:19.

The bottom fell off of that serve, that is extremely difficult to

:09:20.:09:33.

return. Great dig. And it was there for Walkenhorst but just got

:09:34.:09:37.

disorientated and did not apply the pressure. They got lucky, Germany,

:09:38.:09:41.

because the Spike from Talita hit the net and it took the power off,

:09:42.:09:46.

allowing Ludwig to keep the ball alive. Technical time-out, Brazil

:09:47.:09:53.

lead 11-10. It is as close as we thought it would be. No question. It

:09:54.:09:58.

seemed that Walkenhorst tried to be a little bit to shop with the ball,

:09:59.:10:05.

even though Ludwig had a great bid on it, once she gets in a defensive

:10:06.:10:10.

rhythm it will be a heck of a matchup between her and Larissa.

:10:11.:10:14.

Ludwig was the best offence of player in 2013, but Larissa has

:10:15.:10:20.

taken that title home three times and their defensive styles are very

:10:21.:10:28.

different, yet they get so many balls up it is difficult for the

:10:29.:10:35.

attackers to get any momentum rhythm going. As you can see from there,

:10:36.:10:41.

the matches until it both sides have just lost one set. One will lose to

:10:42.:10:52.

today. Off the block, it will go to Germany.

:10:53.:11:11.

What is happening is both sides have put so much pressure on one another

:11:12.:11:27.

with their serving that these passes are taking on a tight backspin and

:11:28.:11:35.

what I get by Ludwig, crazy backspin and peeling of the net. Advantage

:11:36.:11:43.

with Brazil in this point and they finally take it. But not for lack of

:11:44.:11:53.

trying by Laura Ludwig. I cannot believe she salvaged that case to

:11:54.:11:56.

begin with. Barely getting under that one. And this is what makes

:11:57.:12:08.

Larissa so good. Her transition play is unlike anyone else. Here she is

:12:09.:12:17.

with the serve. Ludwig tries to cut it but cannot get it past the net.

:12:18.:12:23.

And now it is advantage to Brazil. They will not want this gap to grow

:12:24.:12:29.

any larger. Germany have called a time-out.

:12:30.:12:34.

Look at that for a view. It is absolutely magnificent, and as the

:12:35.:12:42.

crowds start to fill in it will be absolutely jumping. It is a

:12:43.:12:51.

spectacular stadium. 12,000 and, as you said, it will get bumping soon.

:12:52.:12:58.

They will be pretty happy with the way things have started here.

:12:59.:13:05.

Larissa and Talita. They are much more in control of this one than

:13:06.:13:09.

they were against the Swiss pair in the quarterfinals, they were behind

:13:10.:13:16.

the technical time-out all the way through and they never really

:13:17.:13:19.

recovered from that in the first set, and they squeaked the second

:13:20.:13:21.

set. It was desperately close. Good work from Ludwig. I wouldn't be

:13:22.:13:45.

surprised if we see some unforced errors like we did with the ball

:13:46.:13:49.

just before Ludwig makes the correction here. Because you have

:13:50.:13:55.

such good defenders in the back what you want to avoid it and next thing

:13:56.:13:59.

you know you are squeezing yourself and you run out of court. Well, the

:14:00.:14:05.

time-out seems to have worked because they've won the next two

:14:06.:14:08.

points and, more importantly, it is the first block in a while for

:14:09.:14:16.

Walkenhorst. What a great adjustment at the end. Not only she goes up but

:14:17.:14:21.

then she finishes the ball back into the court so she isn't a target.

:14:22.:14:28.

That is a great dig from Larissa. The net is moving but it has gone to

:14:29.:14:37.

Germany, they've levelled it up at 14-14. You wouldn't think it would

:14:38.:14:42.

make such a difference but the blockage is moving their arms for

:14:43.:14:46.

allows them to control the ball, if the Amess stationary the ball camera

:14:47.:14:51.

to share anywhere. Exactly, and they want to have contact with their

:14:52.:14:54.

hands, you have more control of your hands than a ball off an elbow. It

:14:55.:14:59.

is imperative for these hands to get over the net and then you have more

:15:00.:15:05.

play. She almost comes up with a little play there Walkenhorst, makes

:15:06.:15:10.

the block and tries to keep it alive. Let's have another look. When

:15:11.:15:17.

you get contact with the hands, bloggers try to either cut it up for

:15:18.:15:20.

the defender or themselves in order to allow two more contacts.

:15:21.:15:32.

I think we have a challenge here. He made his decision.

:15:33.:15:44.

They burned that first challenge so early, they've got one more left and

:15:45.:15:52.

we're halfway through the first set. They have to use it wisely.

:15:53.:16:01.

That is nice work. Not only did she clear the sizeable block of Walken

:16:02.:16:21.

is, Talita, that is such a precise shot by her.

:16:22.:16:28.

That is a nice spike from Walkenhorst. Opening the hand a bit

:16:29.:16:37.

and cutting it down the side, but not a great deal to aim for down the

:16:38.:16:46.

line. She controlled it nicely. Great wrist away, controlling that

:16:47.:16:54.

dumbed down without doing it is the key. Once the attacker makes contact

:16:55.:16:58.

with the ball, if they can finish with their thumb down it will give

:16:59.:17:03.

just enough side spin. What we see here is Talita going thumb up and

:17:04.:17:15.

that will ramp the ball one way or the other, giving it just enough

:17:16.:17:20.

spin. Even if the defender is that, if that's enough spin on it to make

:17:21.:17:29.

it more difficult to receive. Well, the Brazilians have called a

:17:30.:17:34.

time-out. Germany cold a time-out when the score was 11-14 and they

:17:35.:17:42.

are now leaving 17-16. A 6-2 swing since that time out. This game is

:17:43.:17:50.

definitely played point by point, side-by-side. If you can win each

:17:51.:17:58.

side 4-3, you will win the match, clearly, but if you can somehow get

:17:59.:18:03.

a bonus ball in their, you're setting yourself up for more success

:18:04.:18:07.

later down the road when it does get tight and the pressure does build.

:18:08.:18:15.

That is happening right now, the business end of the first bed,

:18:16.:18:20.

Walkenhorst to serve. Germany leading 17-16 in a race to 21. Oh!

:18:21.:18:33.

Good dig from Ludwick, can she finish off? You bet she can. --

:18:34.:18:38.

Ludwig. That is the transition blocking we've been talking about

:18:39.:18:42.

from Germany. Dad looks like a challenge from Brazil, was it for a

:18:43.:18:49.

net touch? I believe so but they are giving themselves such aggressive

:18:50.:18:53.

sets that Germany is coming in full blast. It looks to me like she

:18:54.:19:00.

avoids it. It is hoped rather than expectation from Brazil. And they've

:19:01.:19:06.

been rattled, certainly with their challenges, they've been poor

:19:07.:19:12.

challenges. I couldn't agree more. That is a freebie. That is a

:19:13.:19:16.

freebie, you've got to make your opponents play at this stage of the

:19:17.:19:23.

set. A lot of the time, serving and blogging go hand-in-hand, those two

:19:24.:19:30.

skills, one sets up the other. If you can set up trouble with your

:19:31.:19:35.

serve, it sets up your entire defensive schemes. Oh! Everyone is

:19:36.:19:40.

that it! That is a gimme and now Germany just required two side outs

:19:41.:19:47.

to take the opening set. It is a game of pressure management. That is

:19:48.:20:00.

a good half block from Walkenhorst! It is brilliant. What they have been

:20:01.:20:04.

doing, which is why you don't want to get too caught up in the fact

:20:05.:20:09.

that Walkenhorst missed her serve long, that's exactly what they're

:20:10.:20:15.

trying to do, back Talita up. Make a attack a ball from a set coming over

:20:16.:20:20.

her head, in order for Walkenhorst to tie it up exactly as it did.

:20:21.:20:28.

Three set points, the first on the Ludwig serve. What they get! Oh!

:20:29.:20:32.

It's hit the line! They are going to challenge that. They are challenging

:20:33.:20:40.

that. It's close. To me, that got it. The thing is, any part of the

:20:41.:20:48.

ball has to touch the line. It can't be the splash of the sand. We can

:20:49.:21:00.

see from here... Maybe that is wide. Yeah, that's going to be

:21:01.:21:05.

unsuccessful. But what a stab by Ludwig. There it is! Oh no, the most

:21:06.:21:13.

experienced player on the park sends her serve long and Germany take the

:21:14.:21:19.

first set. What a result that is. From 11-14 down, they have turned

:21:20.:21:25.

this around. Even though Ludwig did not get that ball income it created

:21:26.:21:31.

a pressure because then Brazil feel they have to be extra sharp, they

:21:32.:21:36.

have to be extra good, rather than just point by point staying within

:21:37.:21:38.

their realm of execution. Well, these are the stats from the

:21:39.:22:25.

first set. A better conversion rates, 13 from 20, then 11 from 24.

:22:26.:22:31.

Absolutely, Walkenhorst has locked in two blocks as opposed to Talita's

:22:32.:22:39.

zero at the moment. So here we go, set number two. Germany, the number

:22:40.:22:44.

four seeds, a set to the good against the number one seeds. Talita

:22:45.:22:49.

and Larissa of Brazil are themselves under pressure again for the second

:22:50.:22:54.

successive match. They don't themselves out of a very deep hole

:22:55.:22:58.

in the quarterfinals. It's not quite as deep yet, but it could be.

:22:59.:23:14.

Brazil Hang tough in the point. They are having to work desperately hard

:23:15.:23:24.

just to stay on level terms. Absolutely. Talita going to the

:23:25.:23:35.

knuckle. She did not feel comfortable taking that with her

:23:36.:23:41.

hand as Ludwig gets a really good read on it. Larissa misses on the

:23:42.:23:48.

diagonal. They are not going to burn another one, are they? Larissa is

:23:49.:23:59.

eight times the best setter in the world. She holds a very high

:24:00.:24:09.

standard of our opponents when they use the setting skill. A number of

:24:10.:24:20.

service bolts have come from that end, from right to left.

:24:21.:24:33.

That is good improvisation because the set was way too close to the

:24:34.:24:41.

net. Kira Walkenhorst is so physical. She jumps well, she has a

:24:42.:24:46.

heavy arm, she has great vision, but when you get a physical player who

:24:47.:24:51.

can absolutely hammered the ball and then she completely changes and is

:24:52.:24:54.

able to place it down precisely, it is devastating.

:24:55.:25:07.

Outrageous from Ludwig. It gets a touch on the way past. They are

:25:08.:25:20.

dovetailing brilliantly right now. Ludwig has come in so aggressively.

:25:21.:25:25.

Every time she has got a dig, she's looking to swing. Great reactions

:25:26.:25:37.

from the big when she wins a point. She gets really involved. -- from

:25:38.:25:45.

Ludwig. What a hand, to be able to keep our harm and know that she has

:25:46.:25:52.

the precision to avoid Talita and put it just out of the reach of

:25:53.:25:57.

Larissa. Her confidence is growing quickly. These two arguably the best

:25:58.:26:03.

two pairs on the circuit at the moment. Lovely little poke and she

:26:04.:26:20.

is there again. She is on fire! As a defender, when you get into a rhythm

:26:21.:26:23.

and you start getting into a flow, it's almost as if the brain goes

:26:24.:26:31.

off. They realise the second set could be getting away from them as

:26:32.:26:35.

early as exciting to, they have gone for a time-out. There's another one

:26:36.:26:42.

of those spectacular reactions. Ludwig is just in the flow,

:26:43.:26:46.

thrusting her instincts and going. In the last six matches, Brazil have

:26:47.:27:09.

had two wins. Compare it to the Germans and they have had five wins.

:27:10.:27:15.

These two are at the very top of the sport right now. No doubt about it

:27:16.:27:20.

by Germany have one three of the last four meetings between the

:27:21.:27:24.

teams. That is still stored away in the back of their minds. You know

:27:25.:27:28.

your tally against each team out here.

:27:29.:27:39.

She's at it again! She is dialled in and Germany can do nothing wrong at

:27:40.:27:48.

the moment. What is brilliant here is Kira Walkenhorst, she showed and

:27:49.:27:57.

took. She looked as if she was a set up and then she'd don't out to the

:27:58.:28:03.

line, which is what Talita loves to do. She got it with her outside

:28:04.:28:10.

hand. This time she went for the crosscourt. At the moment, Germany

:28:11.:28:18.

are on top. It will be fascinating to see if Brazil turn it around and

:28:19.:28:24.

if they do, how will Germany respond? At the moment, German fans

:28:25.:28:33.

will be loving this. Wow! Absolutely extending the Brazilian defence.

:28:34.:28:38.

Ludwig sets up her serve reception closer to the middle of the court.

:28:39.:28:47.

I'm not sure if they just found a rhythm and they just got comfortable

:28:48.:28:53.

with her taking more of the middle balls but she fights it off

:28:54.:28:59.

extremely well. The pressure relieved by a service fault. It was

:29:00.:29:14.

2-2 and it is now 8-4. Good communication, because they both

:29:15.:29:18.

could have gone for that one. That is a miss! This will just get the

:29:19.:29:31.

crowd going. Which is what they've managed to quieten down. It seemed

:29:32.:29:39.

that Walkenhorst was looking to shoot line and she got the nobody

:29:40.:29:42.

call. No mistake that time. Germany four points to the good. If

:29:43.:29:58.

Germany win this, they will guarantee themselves that first-ever

:29:59.:30:04.

women's beach volleyball medal in the Olympic Games.

:30:05.:30:23.

And that is the best rally of the match, but it goes the way of

:30:24.:30:31.

Brazil. Some great digging from both Ludwig and Larissa.

:30:32.:30:35.

It looked like Walkenhorst could have got under that sets just a

:30:36.:30:40.

little bit more. Did not quite get enough legs under it. The rule shot

:30:41.:30:48.

over the block. Just checking what the defensive

:30:49.:31:13.

situation is. She has been pretty inconsistent on serve, she has four

:31:14.:31:19.

faults, took something off it here and, as I mentioned earlier, you're

:31:20.:31:24.

serving and blogging go hand-in-hand. Setting herself off

:31:25.:31:29.

for success in that play. -- blocking.

:31:30.:31:36.

These two, the only Brazilians left in the women's draw. They have are

:31:37.:31:57.

the number two seeds as well. Brazil loaded up the semifinal, you're only

:31:58.:32:01.

allowed two teams per country into the Olympic Games if you can qualify

:32:02.:32:06.

a field two. Both Germany and Brazil have done that but both Brazil teams

:32:07.:32:10.

have made their way to the semifinals. The men's competition

:32:11.:32:15.

they are one light in the semis. Exactly. Apologies to the Brazilian

:32:16.:32:22.

women's beach volleyball team is the age goes straight down the middle,

:32:23.:32:31.

is a 6-point lead. We scrabble to find the biggest winning margin in

:32:32.:32:38.

asset between these two. That can create some serious stress in one

:32:39.:32:42.

side of the net. Communication errors can really sting. What a

:32:43.:32:53.

scoop by Laura Ludwig. And Larissa does the same. One of the sharpest

:32:54.:33:00.

cut shots in the game comes from Larissa. She has a very large hands.

:33:01.:33:06.

So the fact that she can take that ball and car of it -- carve it the

:33:07.:33:13.

way she wants it is fascinating. This is the technical time-out with

:33:14.:33:18.

the scores at 13-8 in Germany's favour. It was 11-10 to Brazil in

:33:19.:33:27.

the first set at this point but Germany are bossing this second set.

:33:28.:33:37.

Service aces from Ludwig, but she is the dynamo at the moment for

:33:38.:33:43.

Germany. It is weird how a beach volleyball game can work, you can

:33:44.:33:48.

see your blocker winning the match and your defender running the show

:33:49.:33:53.

and winning the match but just now it is Ludwig. You definitely have a

:33:54.:34:00.

work or central pony -- workhorse and show pony. What makes certain

:34:01.:34:03.

teams great as opposed to very good is that both of them can be either.

:34:04.:34:13.

That is a great leave by Walkenhorst. Got all the way to the

:34:14.:34:15.

line to be sure the ball was out. It is a bad set. That is extremely

:34:16.:34:21.

uncharacteristic of Larissa. They are in real trouble now,

:34:22.:34:43.

Brazil. If they call themselves out of it, I was saying earlier, it is

:34:44.:34:48.

not as big as it was in the quarterfinal, it is now bigger and

:34:49.:34:49.

deeper and very dark. It is time you don't want to give

:34:50.:35:01.

either side and inch. Germany does not want to give Brazil and inch

:35:02.:35:05.

because they know what they can do, having watched Brazil's match

:35:06.:35:08.

against Switzerland. She has such a heavy arm and if they

:35:09.:35:53.

close this out in two, she only has to take that Arman from one more

:35:54.:35:54.

match. It is a bit head in hands time for

:35:55.:36:04.

Brazil. She has done them again. And Brazil,

:36:05.:36:22.

they just don't seem to have an answer for this game right now. You

:36:23.:36:27.

can tell Germany has done their homework on Brazil, Talita is very

:36:28.:36:31.

wiry, she is a lot of fast twitch muscle fibre is timing her up

:36:32.:36:37.

because she changes when she makes contact in her attacks on many times

:36:38.:36:40.

that Walkenhorst has done her homework in the block. A little

:36:41.:36:50.

anxious, that is her second net violation of jumping out of her

:36:51.:36:54.

shoes are little. Larissa won bronze in London four years ago then she

:36:55.:36:59.

retired for personal reasons, but she said the call of the sound was

:37:00.:37:05.

too much and she wanted and win a gold on home stand. -- home sand. If

:37:06.:37:13.

she does it will be the most remarkable comeback in Olympic

:37:14.:37:16.

history because just now they are being taken apart by the very

:37:17.:37:23.

efficient German pair. From the very beginning of the Olympics I said

:37:24.:37:26.

that Germany is a well oiled machine. They have dialled in their

:37:27.:37:33.

diet and training, and you can tell everything they've been working on

:37:34.:37:37.

from the beginning of this Olympic qualification is coming together

:37:38.:37:40.

right here, right now on the biggest stage. I local out there and say I

:37:41.:37:45.

don't think Brazil will get one back. 19- 11 in the second set, it

:37:46.:37:55.

is an unbelievable performance. We were speaking and we thought it

:37:56.:37:58.

might be a close match. You are joking. That brings up nine gold

:37:59.:38:06.

medal match points. When it is your day, it is your day. Because that is

:38:07.:38:11.

a heavy net and still coming down on the German side. Somehow it still

:38:12.:38:17.

comes down on the Brazilian side. Nine match points for Germany. Not

:38:18.:38:28.

to be. She almost had two of those, but this is making Brazil is truly

:38:29.:38:33.

uncomfortable the more hands they get on balls the more uncomfortable

:38:34.:38:37.

they are and it has allowed Germany to groove. Larissa, sadly a bit

:38:38.:38:42.

emotional on her face already, she knows this one is done and it is our

:38:43.:38:49.

winner. It is the most amazing result, not because Germany have

:38:50.:38:53.

one, but by the size and manner of the victory. It was closer in the

:38:54.:39:02.

first, point by point, but there wasn't a lot of answers that Brazil

:39:03.:39:09.

had for the Germans. That is one of the most impressive matches of beach

:39:10.:39:13.

volleyball I've ever seen. The number one seeds, one of the hottest

:39:14.:39:16.

tickets on the beach volleyball world tour have just been

:39:17.:39:23.

dismantled. The efficiency is something I have not witnessed

:39:24.:39:26.

against two of the top teams that play the game. Ludwig and

:39:27.:39:30.

Walkenhorst have won this semifinal against Larissa and Talita by 2-0.

:39:31.:39:37.

They will get Germany's first ever beach volleyball Olympic medal,

:39:38.:39:41.

which colour will it be? After disappointment and despair for

:39:42.:39:47.

Brazil. There is always the two sides of emotion in a match in the

:39:48.:39:51.

semifinal of Alan big games. Of any games. You are witnessing them right

:39:52.:40:02.

here, despair and joy. Not a good afternoon for Brazil, they've lost

:40:03.:40:06.

in the football, the Sweden on penalties in the semifinal, and

:40:07.:40:10.

they've been absolutely destroyed by Germany in the beach volleyball.

:40:11.:40:18.

Look at Ludwig's face. The Germans down the other end of Copacabana

:40:19.:40:22.

beach are celebrating and four Larissa and Talita, who were the

:40:23.:40:29.

favourites, they came into this with so much promise, they were brilliant

:40:30.:40:31.

in their quarterfinal coming from one set down to beat the Swiss in a

:40:32.:40:35.

packed arena, but they were no match for the German pair in this

:40:36.:40:41.

semifinal. The Germans go on to the gold-medal match, still a chance for

:40:42.:40:44.

a medal for Larissa and Talita. We saw the little with her family and

:40:45.:40:48.

friends in tears, they thought they had a chance at a gold medal and

:40:49.:40:52.

they have been absolutely taken to pieces. By the German pair. We

:40:53.:40:58.

should be back there in about 20 minutes for one of the men's

:40:59.:41:02.

semifinals, again that sees another Brazilian pair and another top seeds

:41:03.:41:09.

going as well. A big surprise at the beach volleyball today and any

:41:10.:41:16.

football. Good evening in the UK. We are alive on Copacabana beach, none

:41:17.:41:21.

of this rubbish about us being elsewhere. The gorgeous golden sand,

:41:22.:41:25.

we're still quite packed in about an hour the sun will begin to set and

:41:26.:41:29.

people will drift away from the beach into the various bars and

:41:30.:41:35.

hotels around us. On day 11 of these games in Rio de Janeiro, let's bring

:41:36.:41:36.

it up to date with the headlines. We'll see the routine in a moment,

:41:37.:41:46.

Amy Tinkler in the gymnastics has won a surprise bronze in the floor,

:41:47.:41:51.

it was her first individual Olympic final. Simone Biles of USA took the

:41:52.:41:53.

gold. Also, another medal in the

:41:54.:42:03.

gymnastics for Nile Wilson, a bronze on the high bar, the first Briton to

:42:04.:42:06.

reach that final and the first man to win a medal.

:42:07.:42:13.

Giles Scott knew his gold was guaranteed but after leaving's medal

:42:14.:42:18.

race it was confirmed, Giles Scott has taken gold in the Finn class act

:42:19.:42:26.

on the Marina da Gloria. We told you about the miserable day for Brazil

:42:27.:42:29.

in the women's football, Sweden to the final, the gold-medal match

:42:30.:42:34.

which takes place on Friday. They won a penalty shoot out at the same

:42:35.:42:40.

stadium about an hour ago, Germany and Canada are playing the second

:42:41.:42:44.

semifinal just now. We will bring you an update on that later on. He

:42:45.:42:50.

was our timetable if you're with us on BBC Four, we're here all the way

:42:51.:42:55.

through until 2pm in them -- 2am in the morning. One beach volleyball --

:42:56.:42:59.

more beach volleyball in about 20 minutes. Through the end Schmidt or

:43:00.:43:06.

inaction, the top seeds. At 10pm will have the live coverage of the

:43:07.:43:09.

men's three metres springboard final, including Jack Lord -- Jack

:43:10.:43:14.

Laugher trying to get another gold medal. BBC One is the women's sprint

:43:15.:43:23.

final and we will be on the Red Button as well for the boxing

:43:24.:43:27.

throughout the evening and at some stage we will bring you the men's

:43:28.:43:30.

light heavy semifinal featuring Joshua Buatsi and BBC One day to

:43:31.:43:36.

James is due to the final of the women's sprint and we see of Katy

:43:37.:43:40.

Marchant can make it as well. You can watch that on BBC One and we

:43:41.:43:45.

will show you it in a moment. Also, more boxing with one of Brazil's

:43:46.:43:49.

fires coming up later. This is BBC One and that is Katy Marchant in the

:43:50.:43:54.

GB vest, she has won down in this women's sprint. On BBC One you will

:43:55.:43:58.

see she can join Becky James in the final. Call later. Shall we wait?

:43:59.:44:06.

She hasn't. Katy Marchant has not made the final, the Germans are

:44:07.:44:14.

there instead. Christina Vogel is through into the final. Stay is on

:44:15.:44:19.

BBC Four. We told you that incredible bronze medal, in fact,

:44:20.:44:23.

what a gymnastics session Id been full to become tissue has produced

:44:24.:44:28.

six medals in all, two gold, one silver and three bronze and two of

:44:29.:44:31.

those bronze medals came today. We'll show you the routine of Amy

:44:32.:44:36.

Tinkler, who was going in the floor. Simone Biles was the overwhelming

:44:37.:44:41.

favourite, not just for the all-round but she will the one that

:44:42.:44:47.

and for the floor which is one of her top bridges, Amy Tinkler into

:44:48.:44:51.

her first Olympic final. We'll show you her bronze routine. This routine

:44:52.:44:54.

won the bronze medal and will be described as the -- by better,

:44:55.:45:00.

Christine Steele and Matt Baker. COMMENTATOR:

:45:01.:45:03.

Is Amy Tinkler. Youngest member of Team GB as an entirety. She is the

:45:04.:45:14.

British for champion and what outcome are some very big tumbles

:45:15.:45:16.

will come up in this routine. It starts off very cleanly, and great

:45:17.:45:23.

music, the crowd are already clapping along to it. Here is the

:45:24.:45:31.

big first tumble, back in. It. -- fool straight. She really sells this

:45:32.:45:39.

routine. Straight back down the diagonal with the double twisting

:45:40.:45:45.

double back. Fantastic first two tumbles from Amy.

:45:46.:46:02.

And now has the chance to show that great choreography. There is the

:46:03.:46:11.

leap. She is building up to a third tumble. Combination tumble, the one

:46:12.:46:18.

and a half walk-out, into the double tack. Very cleanly performed. There

:46:19.:46:26.

is another big jump and she is building up to the final tumble. A

:46:27.:46:35.

very short run. Such a powerful gymnast. There's the double pike and

:46:36.:46:40.

a fantastic landing to finish off a great routine. Amy Tinkler looking

:46:41.:46:49.

very at home in this Olympic quarterfinal. Really positive, she's

:46:50.:46:55.

such an expressive gymnast. She has really wowed the crowd. The crowd

:46:56.:46:59.

got behind her more than anyone else. She's from your neck of the

:47:00.:47:04.

woods, South Durham to manually performed fantastically throughout

:47:05.:47:09.

this Championships. First tumble, a double straight somersault with the

:47:10.:47:13.

twists in and the body travelled really slowly when you're straight,

:47:14.:47:17.

so that is one of the most difficult tumbles you will see. This is the

:47:18.:47:23.

double tuck position with two twists. Always been a great tumbler,

:47:24.:47:28.

from a tiny little gymnast. So well rehearsed on the landings. She

:47:29.:47:35.

didn't step. She could not have done that better. Amy is one of the

:47:36.:47:39.

gymnasts who has really relished this opportunity. She has. After

:47:40.:47:42.

qualification apparently she was asked how it felt out there and she

:47:43.:47:49.

just set, "I love it". She had the biggest smile on her face and she

:47:50.:47:53.

just wanted to be out there, she just wanted to perform. The crowd is

:47:54.:48:00.

a really enjoying that routine with her. To perform with the crowd

:48:01.:48:02.

clapping along, it gives you that bars as well. Well, the score is in

:48:03.:48:06.

and it is an enormous 14.933! Brilliant performance from Amy

:48:07.:48:25.

Tinkler. We will hear from her later. We need to bring you news of

:48:26.:48:33.

another gold medal! Hannah Clarke and Saskia Mills were looking good

:48:34.:48:36.

in the women's 470. What is the update, what's happened? It's not

:48:37.:48:43.

all about sailing, it's about mathematics, and they crossed the

:48:44.:48:45.

finish line and they didn't know and they went to the coach and he had

:48:46.:48:50.

done the adding up correctly and they are just enough ahead, 20

:48:51.:48:57.

points ahead, which means they are guaranteed that gold medal. They

:48:58.:49:02.

have to do the medal race but they don't have to do anything in it!

:49:03.:49:07.

Great news. We are following them in and we're going to speak to them as

:49:08.:49:13.

soon as we get to quieter waters, so not long now until we can chat to

:49:14.:49:20.

our new gold medallists. Talk to us about the significance of this

:49:21.:49:23.

medal. You were telling us at the start of the regatta that there were

:49:24.:49:30.

many chances across the classes for Team GB. What were their chances

:49:31.:49:35.

before they started? They won a silver medal in London and they were

:49:36.:49:39.

just beaten by the Kiwis in the medal race. I always remember going

:49:40.:49:44.

up to Hannah and Saskia afterwards and they were so angry with

:49:45.:49:53.

themselves, so today is very much they have righted the wrong. They

:49:54.:49:57.

have been so focused for the last few years on winning that gold and

:49:58.:50:00.

their performance this week has been absolutely rock solid. They have not

:50:01.:50:04.

had a wobble. That's pretty impressive, particularly in this

:50:05.:50:06.

kind of venue where lots of things can go around the point you know

:50:07.:50:10.

that only too well yourself, being a double gold-medal list. What is that

:50:11.:50:14.

pressure like of trying to perform again when everyone knows you are

:50:15.:50:21.

one of the boats to watch? In many ways good because you know you've

:50:22.:50:30.

got the full tool box. I think they're just here with the coach,

:50:31.:50:34.

they are towing in and within a few moments we will be able to speak to

:50:35.:50:38.

them. They are pretty happy girls, they just stood up and they hugged

:50:39.:50:42.

each other, they have lived with that mistake they made four years

:50:43.:50:46.

ago until today and I just saw the emotion come spilling out. It's a

:50:47.:50:52.

great victory. Surely, how long do you think we will have to wait until

:50:53.:50:55.

we can speak to them? We're desperate to get a gold medallist on

:50:56.:51:02.

BBC Four! Not long! I want to make sure we can definitely see them.

:51:03.:51:05.

Give us a few more minutes and I will have them here. Great stuff,

:51:06.:51:09.

hopefully pick up with you later. Thanks very much for describing that

:51:10.:51:14.

to us. Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills have just taken gold in the women's

:51:15.:51:21.

470 as well. We will get some reaction a bit later on from Shirley

:51:22.:51:30.

Robertson and in fact we can go back because you have them? I don't quite

:51:31.:51:38.

have them on board yet but they have found us. Here they are, well done

:51:39.:51:43.

girls! 'S enormous big smiles. I think we need a little bit longer to

:51:44.:51:46.

get them on board safely and to be able to talk to us. We believe you

:51:47.:51:54.

do it, we don't want to cause issues with some sort of nautical

:51:55.:51:58.

manoeuvre! We hope to hear from those medallists later on BBC Four

:51:59.:52:06.

but what we can bring you is a bronze medallist from earlier in the

:52:07.:52:12.

gymnastics, Amy Tinkler. Amy, I think about six weeks ago you were

:52:13.:52:15.

sitting your GCSEs and here you are with an Olympic bronze medal, just

:52:16.:52:17.

tell us what is going through your head right now! I honestly don't

:52:18.:52:22.

have a clue, it's just so an real! It's just total shock. When you did

:52:23.:52:27.

that routine, did you think it could be a medal or did you think it would

:52:28.:52:32.

be for the fifth place? My toast just said you've got nothing to

:52:33.:52:36.

lose, go out there and enjoy it and that is what I did. Whatever the

:52:37.:52:41.

result would have been, I would have been happy with. Your only the

:52:42.:52:45.

second woman ever to end with an Olympic medal for Great Britain.

:52:46.:52:49.

You're up there with the likes of Beth Tweddle and you're not even 17

:52:50.:52:53.

yet! You seem so at home on the biggest stage of all. I just love

:52:54.:52:58.

competing in front of big crowds as well. It's just incredible. I'm

:52:59.:53:05.

shocked! I can see your shop, you can hardly speak! Have you got

:53:06.:53:09.

friends and family around here to watch you? Yes, my coaches and my

:53:10.:53:13.

family and I just want to say thank you to everyone for all their

:53:14.:53:18.

support. The last year has just been amazing and I couldn't have done it

:53:19.:53:23.

without all of you. You could be back in Tokyo winning another bronze

:53:24.:53:28.

or even better maybe! Yes, I would love to. When do you get your GCSEs

:53:29.:53:36.

results? The day I get home from Rio! A lot to look forward to now.

:53:37.:53:41.

A big few days ahead for Amy Tinkler, GCSE results to come as

:53:42.:53:48.

well! Simone Biles of the USA took the gold, the overwhelming favourite

:53:49.:53:54.

for that, but what a smile from Amy Tinkler. Another bronze in the

:53:55.:53:58.

gymnastics, this time for Nile Wilson, the first Briton ever to

:53:59.:54:05.

qualify for a high bar final. Her routine -- his routine is described

:54:06.:54:11.

by Beth Tweddle, Dan Keatings and Matt Baker.

:54:12.:54:17.

COMMENTATOR: Time to focus on Nile Wilson, Commonwealth champion. What

:54:18.:54:24.

can he achieved here in this meant's Olympic high bar Valley -- high bar

:54:25.:54:32.

final. Well, Nile is also has to go for broke. He has to do these huge

:54:33.:54:41.

releases to their maximum. Lining it up, into a big release.

:54:42.:54:45.

Catches it perfectly. And again, height into it. Now, settle down,

:54:46.:55:00.

really nice one and a half terms. There is the squat, just slightly

:55:01.:55:13.

off handstand. Squat with half turn. The big catch. Come on, big wind-up,

:55:14.:55:27.

just the dismount left! Double twisting, double straight. Get in,

:55:28.:55:36.

lad. What a routine. That is going to challenge! He was building the

:55:37.:55:40.

difficulty is all the way through and that was a very strong statement

:55:41.:55:47.

for an Olympic medal. It was indeed and what a cool customer. He's

:55:48.:55:52.

aggressive and determined, but he's never been up in an Olympic final

:55:53.:55:56.

before. They only happen once every four years. That is what ramps up

:55:57.:56:02.

the pressure. You know in four years' time you're going to be

:56:03.:56:05.

older, who knows what will have happened. Beautiful vault through

:56:06.:56:12.

the air as well. He is a beautifully stylish gymnast, really

:56:13.:56:16.

well-trained. One of the next generation of British gymnasts

:56:17.:56:20.

coming along. I think he loves these big competitions. He really takes

:56:21.:56:26.

gymnastics to the next level under an enormous amount of pressure and

:56:27.:56:32.

that is what makes a great gymnast and sets the best guys apart. That

:56:33.:56:36.

is something that can't be coached, isn't it, Dan? It is something you

:56:37.:56:39.

have the heart for alike Amy Tinkler. He gave nothing away on

:56:40.:56:48.

that dismount. He knows he has to stick their two get in the medals.

:56:49.:56:57.

15.4 66. Nile Wilson in second at the moment.

:56:58.:57:01.

Now you've got your Olympic medal... CHUCKLES

:57:02.:57:09.

It sounds incredible. It's hard to put into words how I feel right now

:57:10.:57:14.

in terms of emotion but I'm so happy, it's a dream come true,

:57:15.:57:19.

something you train your whole life. It was difficult to manage my

:57:20.:57:24.

expectations going into that final. It wasn't by any means my best

:57:25.:57:31.

routine that I hit. I was quite emotional up there, it's difficult

:57:32.:57:34.

looking at my family getting really upset and then my coach Barry rang

:57:35.:57:41.

me and he was in tears on the phone. I can't thank them enough. My

:57:42.:57:48.

personal coach, Leeds gymnastics club. I've got my Olympic medal in

:57:49.:57:53.

my hand, it feels so good! You're the sort of guy, you put all your

:57:54.:57:58.

emotions into it. We could see when you came off the high bar you had

:57:59.:58:02.

done a great job. You didn't want to wait four years for this, did you!

:58:03.:58:08.

No, it was an opportunity today and I had the opportunity to become an

:58:09.:58:11.

Olympic medallist, I was fortunate enough. I will find it difficult to

:58:12.:58:21.

control my emotions. I'm so happy and I know everyone at home will be

:58:22.:58:25.

so proud. I just want to say to my mum and dad, I did it, I love you so

:58:26.:58:30.

much. You and Amy Tinkler are both first-time Olympians and you have

:58:31.:58:37.

thrived on the biggest stage of all. This week has been incredible for

:58:38.:58:42.

British gymnastics. Seven medals. That has surpassed any expectation.

:58:43.:58:48.

Max, Lewis, they were all inspirational. I'm glad to be my

:58:49.:58:55.

country proud. You're going to meet up with mum and dad now and have a

:58:56.:59:00.

celebration? Definitely. See the boys as well as they will be buzzing

:59:01.:59:05.

for me and it's time to dance! Thank you. Thank you, Nile. He ends up

:59:06.:59:14.

with a bronze medal. Six medals in total from the gymnastics, two gold,

:59:15.:59:19.

one silver and three bronze. We can show you the updated medal table

:59:20.:59:24.

from a Team GB perspective, because they are still second on the list.

:59:25.:59:31.

18 gold medals, 17 silvers and ten bronze medals. 20 behind the total

:59:32.:59:36.

from four years ago in London. The 18th gold arrived a few moments ago

:59:37.:59:42.

for Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark in the women's 470. We were there with

:59:43.:59:46.

Shirley Robertson and she has now dragged the gold medallists into the

:59:47.:59:48.

boat and she is now talking to them. The 2016 gold medallist, Hannah

:59:49.:59:57.

Mills and Saskia Clark! LAUGHTER

:59:58.:00:00.

I'm absolutely lost for words. I still can't believe it. We saw you

:00:01.:00:05.

cross the line and there was a bit of arithmetic to make sure and you

:00:06.:00:09.

went to your coach behind us and you knew. Just tell me about the moment

:00:10.:00:15.

when you realise you had it. Complete and utter shock. The

:00:16.:00:17.

emotions just poured out of me and I didn't know what to say or do. It's

:00:18.:00:22.

the most bizarre feeling ever! I haven't stopped smiling!

:00:23.:00:26.

I didn't have heard of the choir though. I will never forget four

:00:27.:00:33.

years old when he lost the medal race to the Kiwis. You were so cross

:00:34.:00:39.

with yourself, tell me how it feels to have righted that wrong?

:00:40.:00:44.

Completely surreal. It has been a marathon event. We've been saying --

:00:45.:00:49.

sailing what feels like forever to get this medal this week and I still

:00:50.:00:56.

cannot believe it is done. We have one race left. You have your lap of

:00:57.:01:02.

honour, it is called doing a Giles, it will be quite a lap of honour. I

:01:03.:01:07.

cannot wait. We came here three years ago in sales that course as a

:01:08.:01:11.

joke last three years saying we want to be 20 points clear going into the

:01:12.:01:15.

race because it is so hard, and we are. I can't believe it. I know you

:01:16.:01:21.

are the best of friends, you are so close, this has been five years in

:01:22.:01:26.

the making to share this moment before you had ashore together. What

:01:27.:01:31.

is that like? It has been amazing to me is been a difficult few years,

:01:32.:01:35.

I've had to Matt pieces of surgery and Times didn't think I would make

:01:36.:01:40.

it back and she waited for me. She has been an amazing best friend and

:01:41.:01:45.

team-mate. That is a great start -- great cover. 2016 gold medallists.

:01:46.:01:52.

Congratulations. Congratulations to both of them. Since then they've

:01:53.:01:55.

been dancing on the book, enjoying themselves, but of emotion about

what they've been through over the last few years and they've been

:01:59.:02:03.

calling members of their family. And doing some dancing, obviously. It is

:02:04.:02:08.

interesting as well that throughout these games we've been speaking

:02:09.:02:11.

about getting you inspired into whatever spot it might be and you

:02:12.:02:17.

think you might want to try. This is what it means and you might be sat

:02:18.:02:20.

there the night, I don't knows you ever tried selling before, I

:02:21.:02:24.

haven't, but if you go on the BBC website to get inspired section and

:02:25.:02:27.

think you might want to try it in the future, go on there and you can

:02:28.:02:31.

find sailing and find the nearest club close to you and it might not

:02:32.:02:35.

be something that takes the sailing that takes your fancy, it might be

:02:36.:02:39.

something different. Maybe the gymnastics. They get inspired

:02:40.:02:43.

website on the BBC site is the best place to find the nearest club gear.

:02:44.:02:47.

If you or your kids or someone else in your family has watched these

:02:48.:02:50.

games and things, do you know what? I might give that a try. Maybe in a

:02:51.:02:54.

few years you might be the Shirley or boat somewhere in the world

:02:55.:03:01.

celebrating a medal of some colour. Congratulations to Hannah Mills and

:03:02.:03:05.

Saskia Clark, the 18th gold medallist for Team GB. We will take

:03:06.:03:08.

you back to the beach volleyball, we promised a second game and I wonder

:03:09.:03:12.

if this will go better for the Brazilians in the first one. We saw

:03:13.:03:16.

the top seeds knocked out in the semifinals against the Germans, this

:03:17.:03:22.

time it is the male Brazilian top seeds, so Richard Schmidt taking on

:03:23.:03:26.

the Dutch, we can rejoin our country team. This is live beach volleyball

:03:27.:03:32.

on BBC Four. Trolley Broom and Britos over again.

:03:33.:03:37.

COMMENTATOR: Still alive. Perfectly legitimate to

:03:38.:03:45.

play on that and make Alison play one more shot. They get their reward

:03:46.:03:53.

for that hard graft. The cover ball here is devastating against a player

:03:54.:04:02.

that is expecting it to be a point. Rally over. The mental agility that

:04:03.:04:07.

has to happen when a ball like that gets saved as to be top-notch. The

:04:08.:04:13.

reactions you must have for the ball coming of the net, it comes off

:04:14.:04:16.

incredibly quickly and not at angle you think. Alison makes sure about

:04:17.:04:28.

Prydie has left lag over the sideline. -- make sure by putting

:04:29.:04:34.

his left. Or not. He has a foot inside.

:04:35.:04:49.

Yes! Now is the turn of the Brazilians to make their opponents

:04:50.:04:57.

play one more shot and then win a point as they shouldn't have. You

:04:58.:05:01.

can kind of see the Netherlands are giving themselves some room on the

:05:02.:05:06.

set, they know how effective the blogger Alison is, so they must

:05:07.:05:10.

create some space and keep him as much out of that player is possible.

:05:11.:05:14.

He will find a way to insert himself.

:05:15.:05:39.

That ball hits the ground, my guess is it wants to stay. Just lay down.

:05:40.:05:52.

The ball is saying take me out of the rotation, please.

:05:53.:06:06.

Good work from Brouwer. His arm sling is so smooth, there is an 11 G

:06:07.:06:17.

to it and unease to it, it comes off so fast, both of them are extremely

:06:18.:06:23.

wiry from the Netherlands. Alison has kind of a heavy strength to him.

:06:24.:06:30.

Good work from Bruno, keeps his side in front. It seems early that the

:06:31.:06:40.

Netherlands are going a little bit after them, kind of feeling them

:06:41.:06:43.

out, seeing which they will settle in on.

:06:44.:06:52.

Alison just throwing it back. He doesn't want any of that noise. Side

:06:53.:07:03.

switch. Total points at 14. Change of court every seven points. The

:07:04.:07:12.

change-up not working for Meeuwsen. That was a long way from the net,

:07:13.:07:26.

but it is a some spike from Brouwer. When he leaves the ground he has the

:07:27.:07:31.

over his head for that ball and ran to create the angle he did is

:07:32.:07:32.

impressive. Bruno laid out is making the

:07:33.:07:42.

Netherlands think he got a hand on that, the next ball quite -- might

:07:43.:07:44.

be up, I need to be sharper. It was a lead of two now, the first

:07:45.:08:02.

time there has been that much daylight between the sides.

:08:03.:08:15.

It was up with the cycle kicked, but completely out of play. Time-out

:08:16.:08:33.

called, Brouwer. Starting to celebrate and then realise the ball

:08:34.:08:38.

might still be alive. Excellent start by Alison and Bruno. Look at

:08:39.:08:48.

that already, in terms of blocks. They've been together since 2013.

:08:49.:09:02.

They have been on some hot to most notably after the World

:09:03.:09:13.

Championships last year. Just listening in. More times than not it

:09:14.:09:18.

comes down to what you do on your side of the net rather than being so

:09:19.:09:23.

concerned about what they are doing. Of course, Alison, four blocks

:09:24.:09:26.

already, that is something that is weighing on their mind. But also,

:09:27.:09:32.

what is it the Netherlands can do on their side of the net without overly

:09:33.:09:36.

concerning themselves with the mammoth. Bruno serving a 10-7. Four

:09:37.:09:45.

points away from the technical time-out. More times than not it is

:09:46.:09:54.

as simple as the pass a search committee passes in rhythm and the

:09:55.:09:58.

set is aggressive and in the wheelhouse, they are physical enough

:09:59.:09:59.

to get it done. He holds such a large presence but

:10:00.:10:29.

when he changes speed there has got to be every five of Brouwer's being

:10:30.:10:39.

to say go. One more point until the technical time-out. Will it be a

:10:40.:10:42.

3-point lead or a 1-point lead for Brazil?

:10:43.:10:56.

The answer is a 3-point lead. 12-9 to Brazil at the technical time-out.

:10:57.:11:10.

Brouwer and Meeuwsen, they seem to be set up in the right position,

:11:11.:11:17.

they are there. He hits such heavy Bollard will be a matter of not what

:11:18.:11:23.

they will do but when they will do it, when they will transition that

:11:24.:11:28.

play in defence. But their side out needs to be more steady in order for

:11:29.:11:33.

this set not to run away from them. Alison picked up the silver medal in

:11:34.:11:40.

London with his then partner, the 2004 champion, Emmanuelle. Losing

:11:41.:11:47.

out on the gold-medal match. In making his debut in the games, and

:11:48.:11:51.

that is the draw in the men's semifinal. Night is descending on

:11:52.:12:02.

Copacabana, the atmosphere will build. Going back to Bruno, he is

:12:03.:12:06.

making his Olympic debut but his uncle, Oskar Schmidt, is one of

:12:07.:12:10.

Brazil's was decorated Olympian is having wrapped in the Dem in five

:12:11.:12:15.

Olympic Games from 1980-1996 in basketball. Pressure on. The

:12:16.:12:19.

magician. Brazil coming off a high of taking

:12:20.:12:34.

on the USA, in the quarterfinal match yesterday. The Netherlands had

:12:35.:12:40.

to play their compatriots. That was an extraordinary quarterfinal. No

:12:41.:12:48.

doubt about it, the men's side is loaded. It was difficult to say

:12:49.:12:52.

going into this Olympics who you would deem as the teams to be here

:12:53.:12:59.

in the semifinals. It was wide open. There is a plethora of teams that

:13:00.:13:05.

could be here tonight. Oskar gets lucky of the net cord but the

:13:06.:13:08.

quarterfinal against the American pair, the Brazilian pair won it

:13:09.:13:12.

comfortable 21-40 but the second set they went a while, losing 12-21.

:13:13.:13:18.

Then they regrouped after the second set and got a good start, I think

:13:19.:13:24.

they went out to a 5-0 lead or maybe artform- zero lead. It was a 4-1

:13:25.:13:29.

lead, never relinquished that, taking the final set 15-9. You hate

:13:30.:13:33.

to see the Brazil- USA rivalry happen so early, if you will, you

:13:34.:13:41.

quarterfinal. But it was epic nonetheless. It all comes about

:13:42.:13:45.

because of Brazil's Gloucester Austria in the pool play, which is

:13:46.:13:48.

why they are where they are. If they go all the way they will feel even

:13:49.:13:51.

more pride about the gold-medal because they've beaten some really

:13:52.:13:54.

tough players to get to the top of the podium. No question, there is

:13:55.:14:03.

not a team in the tournament that was a walkover in regards to, Cuba,

:14:04.:14:14.

shocking the world, really, in their lack of experience, but came on and

:14:15.:14:17.

put on a heck of a show against Russia as well. Still alive. And

:14:18.:14:28.

Meeuwsen goes over with the second touch. We mentioned that Brazil USA

:14:29.:14:36.

rivalry. Beach volleyball might be synonymous with Brazil, was invented

:14:37.:14:42.

in the USA the West Coast. The USA have won three of the five gold

:14:43.:14:47.

medals contested in the men's event. Once over. Brazil have the one gold

:14:48.:14:55.

and three silver, so they contested a lot of gold-medal managers, the

:14:56.:15:05.

USA and Brazil. -- matches. Bizarrely, Brazil's when came over

:15:06.:15:11.

as manager pair. -- came over at Spanish pair.

:15:12.:15:21.

It was athletes into Durston for. -- Athens in 2004. You just feel that

:15:22.:15:33.

the Brazil pair are in control of this set.

:15:34.:15:38.

You just feel that the Brazil pair are in control of this set. As much

:15:39.:15:48.

as it has been a Brazil US and Germany on the men's side, the rest

:15:49.:15:53.

of the world not only has caught up but they have, they have put the

:15:54.:16:02.

Brazilians and Americans in or, I guess, of how well... And their

:16:03.:16:05.

inter-predation, their style of play has been so brilliant to see. The

:16:06.:16:13.

Netherlands, Russia, Cuba, Italy. The Netherlands, Russia and Italy

:16:14.:16:19.

have no Olympic medals in the meant's beach volleyball. So if

:16:20.:16:23.

we're going to have two new medallists on the podium on that

:16:24.:16:28.

final state. It's incredible. It's so fun to see because everyone has a

:16:29.:16:33.

difficult style, -- different style, everyone has a different approach to

:16:34.:16:37.

it. They are dealing with athletes who come in all different shapes and

:16:38.:16:54.

sizes. Cut away but missed, 18-14. The Dutch pair need to come up with

:16:55.:16:59.

the answer here because at the moment they can't seem to get a

:17:00.:17:09.

decent foothold in the match. Good reading from Meeuwsen, he was right

:17:10.:17:16.

underneath it. It's always impressive to me to see Meeuwsen and

:17:17.:17:26.

Alison at six foot eight and the size that these guys are, to get as

:17:27.:17:30.

low as they get in the sand and even go horizontal at times and then get

:17:31.:17:39.

as vertical as they get... In my opinion, some of the best athletes

:17:40.:17:49.

on planet Earth. Bruno curling it on to that line. 19-15, two points away

:17:50.:17:54.

from that first set. Then you have Bruno, standing at six

:17:55.:18:10.

foot even, to be able to do what he does against guys this size is

:18:11.:18:21.

brilliant. It's all comparative, of course, but he is rather small for a

:18:22.:18:30.

beach volleyball player. Just missing! He caught the top of the

:18:31.:18:41.

tape. Four set points now for Brazil. Nothing that the crowd could

:18:42.:18:48.

do about that. Just wide. Just wide, so they're

:18:49.:19:14.

going to have to go for a second set point. Trying to put the pressure on

:19:15.:19:22.

and saying it was in, but it was wide. So fun when it comes down to

:19:23.:19:27.

centimetres. The crowd are on their feet. Get is a little lucky off the

:19:28.:19:37.

net cord, Alison to win the first set! He does. Alison and Bruno

:19:38.:19:47.

Schmidt take the first set 21-17 and in truth, it never looked in doubt.

:19:48.:19:53.

So, Brazil looking good in that first that. They are a set up

:19:54.:19:59.

against the Dutch and we will show you the second is that a bit later

:20:00.:20:05.

on. See if Brazil can make it through to the final. Over on BBC

:20:06.:20:09.

One right now it's the track cycling for you. Laura Trott, Gold medallist

:20:10.:20:14.

in the omnium from four years ago, is leading the event. Quite a view

:20:15.:20:21.

laps to go. Laura Trott looking good for yet another gold medal. We're

:20:22.:20:25.

going to bring you a bit of boxing later because we have got the diving

:20:26.:20:34.

coming up later with Jack Laugher in the three metre springboard final.

:20:35.:20:37.

There's a bit British in boxing as well, which you can find on the red

:20:38.:20:42.

button, whether you have got free view, free sat, cable, it's all on

:20:43.:20:51.

there for you. Live right there is the boxing session which includes

:20:52.:20:53.

Joshua Buatsi in the final of the light heavyweight. That is 10:30pm

:20:54.:20:56.

on straight after that we will see Joe Joyce go in the meant's

:20:57.:21:01.

superheavyweight. We saw Joe Joyce actually get rid of one of his

:21:02.:21:05.

earlier opponents in the very first round, so he's in impressive form

:21:06.:21:08.

and he's in the quarterfinal at 10:45pm. We will bring you those

:21:09.:21:13.

fights a little bit later on after the diving. If you would like to

:21:14.:21:18.

watch them live, it's over on the red button. Right now, second set,

:21:19.:21:23.

back to the beach volleyball with Brazil ahead.

:21:24.:21:29.

Bruno! Kept that alive somehow, the Dutch, but still advantage Brazil. A

:21:30.:21:44.

superb full-length deck. Oh dear, the set was just too strong. The

:21:45.:21:53.

tightrope more or less on playing aggressively and then playing too

:21:54.:22:00.

aggressively, giving yourself a good look. And then letting the mammoth

:22:01.:22:13.

get involved. We should go the whole hog and call him the woolly mammoth,

:22:14.:22:15.

he has the Bruno just cutting it across the

:22:16.:22:56.

court. All about shot choice, 95% of the time. He sets himself up for

:22:57.:23:02.

success, no question. He squared his shoulders to the line ball and

:23:03.:23:07.

allowed the rotation to come from the smaller joints, the elbow and

:23:08.:23:13.

the hand. Good blocking. Good blocking. Meeuwsen. This is what the

:23:14.:23:17.

Dutch need to do. Having won the point with a good

:23:18.:23:41.

blog, you don't want to give away a cheap point with a service error or

:23:42.:23:46.

fault straight off the back of it. However, you do want to put the

:23:47.:23:50.

pressure on. Even though that ball was missed long, it forced Brazil to

:23:51.:23:55.

make a decision. They know that when Brouwer gets hot, that serve can

:23:56.:24:01.

string together a viewpoints. You almost don't want to concern

:24:02.:24:04.

yourself as much with default as Netherlands needing to get into a

:24:05.:24:14.

serving grooves and rhythm. They nick need to blast their way into it

:24:15.:24:17.

as opposed to giving Brazil and easier ball and letting them build

:24:18.:24:21.

their confidence. A very flat looking serve, two consecutive

:24:22.:24:27.

faults for the Netherlands. What the Netherlands is trying to do there is

:24:28.:24:32.

get a topspin or a jump spin kind of serve from Brouwer and then Meeuwsen

:24:33.:24:38.

following it up with a float serve, so Brazil is having to look at two

:24:39.:24:41.

different types of serves. Brazil knows how imperative it is to serve

:24:42.:24:47.

tough. We almost even in faults. It's catching. Monkey see monkey do.

:24:48.:24:57.

Some power in that! Wow! Have a look at this. You could have had five

:24:58.:25:17.

people there and no one is going to get that back. Exactly!

:25:18.:25:25.

The serving has just dropped off a cliff in this set, as they try and

:25:26.:25:41.

lift the pressure. They got their defensive structure

:25:42.:25:55.

right that time, the Netherlands, but they couldn't make the dig.

:25:56.:26:01.

Bruno Schmidt is sharp. His instincts know how fast Brouwer is

:26:02.:26:07.

and so he's got to find a way to get the ball to the sand is even

:26:08.:26:19.

quicker. Cross court... Brouwer taking the line.

:26:20.:26:39.

There's another one. Second side swap. The spin on that serve creates

:26:40.:26:55.

a spin on the pass which creates a spin on the set. For Alison to

:26:56.:26:59.

change that spin and then score from that far off the net was a very

:27:00.:27:07.

difficult play for Brazil to execute. Wow! Makes the block to put

:27:08.:27:15.

Brazil in front for the first time in this that. A run now of two

:27:16.:27:32.

points for Brazil puts them in front.

:27:33.:27:40.

Wow! That is impressive too. Meeuwsen didn't have a lot of space

:27:41.:27:53.

but he managed to find a way to get that to the line.

:27:54.:28:16.

Just wide of the mark and we're going to have a challenge. So, was

:28:17.:28:30.

it touched, was it wide? Let's have another look. They are challenging

:28:31.:28:36.

if it is in or out. It's hard to tell from that angle.

:28:37.:28:48.

The risk that you run by following a ball the way out like that, like

:28:49.:28:54.

Brouwer did, is that if he pushes the line into that ball it's

:28:55.:29:00.

considered in. The lines are quite movable here on the beach, as

:29:01.:29:05.

opposed to indoor, where the lines are painted. The first of two

:29:06.:29:11.

challenges unsuccessful, so just one remaining for Brazil. Brouwer seems

:29:12.:29:20.

to have a beating on these balls, he's just catching them on the part

:29:21.:29:24.

of the tape where it comes at a speed that he can't deal with. It's

:29:25.:29:32.

the same number of attacks. Well, they were lucky, though, Brazil,

:29:33.:29:36.

because the scatter was too far behind it, he didn't get the power

:29:37.:29:43.

on. Bruno Schmidt was on it and Alison knocked it out of his way. He

:29:44.:29:55.

knows. He's thinking I should have made the block but then again, I

:29:56.:30:01.

should have let my team-mates play. The defender in the back court, it's

:30:02.:30:08.

usually in the eyes for the blocker. They have to be more communicative

:30:09.:30:14.

athlete on the court, talking them into or out of certain things. A

:30:15.:30:21.

good blog by Meeuwsen means that at the technical time-outs, it is

:30:22.:30:24.

actually the Netherlands that are in front by 11 points to ten.

:30:25.:30:35.

Some good blocking in this second set by Alison. Credit to Meeuwsen,

:30:36.:30:51.

he has had some good blocks, there is no great deal between them in

:30:52.:30:57.

terms of that statistic. On the right of picture.

:30:58.:31:15.

And it will be Meeuwsen to serve at 1110 in the second set -- 11-10.

:31:16.:31:28.

After losing the first 17-21. Again, they almost make the block or the

:31:29.:31:35.

Digg. It is not far away for the Netherlands team. There has been so

:31:36.:31:38.

many that have been just out of their reach. Or just mistimed, but

:31:39.:31:54.

it has definitely gone Brazil's way. Through no reading that one. Then

:31:55.:31:58.

coming up with the touch. Wow. Bruno's hands are brilliant. That

:31:59.:32:22.

ball is coming with a lot of heat and find out that much control over

:32:23.:32:32.

head and the composure to put it to the sand. Good reactions from

:32:33.:32:38.

Brouwer. Well done. Well done the Netherlands. Alison touches most of

:32:39.:32:42.

the balls in the block with his hands, not many times do see it come

:32:43.:32:46.

off his elbows or something awkward comedy tries to get his hands on the

:32:47.:32:51.

ball, that time he pulled his hands in anticipation of a short, did not

:32:52.:32:57.

want to become a target. And left it for Bruno.

:32:58.:33:05.

Colliding at the net. Meeuwsen taking offence to that, as he

:33:06.:33:17.

should. Bruno came in, full speed, and that can be dangerous. When

:33:18.:33:23.

players almost come under, they do come under the net. It puts everyone

:33:24.:33:30.

in jeopardy. You don't want to be having your ankles taken out by

:33:31.:33:34.

someone coming in at pace, did that hit the line? Yes. It did. Off the

:33:35.:33:44.

net, off some hands. He hit everything. It did not get Meeuwsen.

:33:45.:33:52.

Then the turn and wait for it to drop. A lifetime hangs in that. It

:33:53.:34:02.

is wide, the set was a little wiser. It was not in the slot so he had to

:34:03.:34:08.

adjust on as a result it goes just wide of the mark. It just has to

:34:09.:34:14.

jump to his left. The finest of margins. The court has gone to

:34:15.:34:18.

Bruno, has it? I did not see what the yellow was

:34:19.:34:30.

for. I believe he's arguing the handset. Again, the Brazilians have

:34:31.:34:40.

an extremely sensitive opinion of what a handset should look like and

:34:41.:34:46.

is, so their interpretation sometimes you want to play with the

:34:47.:34:50.

first referee, get in their head and think -- make them think about it

:34:51.:34:54.

because you never know when the call could go your way. Just sharpening

:34:55.:35:01.

the first referee was like I'll is, perhaps. -- the first referee's I.

:35:02.:35:12.

Perhaps using the annoyance of receiving the yellow card of taking

:35:13.:35:20.

his frustration out on the ball. Again, Meeuwsen in the visitor to,

:35:21.:35:21.

just too much pace. What is crazy is it feels like

:35:22.:35:40.

Brazil is in control, but the Netherlands have not got anywhere.

:35:41.:35:46.

Point by point, side-by-side. I have to agree. A bit of confusion in the

:35:47.:35:50.

Brazilian ranks, but this order themselves out now. Just waiting for

:35:51.:35:55.

their opportunity. Now, this is an opportunity. If they can just sneak

:35:56.:36:02.

one more point it would make life a little easier for them. Just the

:36:03.:36:13.

sides as required. That is an interesting call because it seemed

:36:14.:36:17.

as though he made the call before Meeuwsen even left the ground. I

:36:18.:36:21.

think it came from the second referee. He did, he got it on the

:36:22.:36:36.

way up. Ran right into this one. That is some movement from Brouwer,

:36:37.:36:45.

but advantage Brazil. No challenge. There is a call for a challenge.

:36:46.:36:49.

They have to. It seemed as though the Netherlands, there is a

:36:50.:36:56.

lacklustre on this side of the net. Just in the pursuit of that ball.

:36:57.:37:06.

You still want to say mentally sharp even on a play like that. It is

:37:07.:37:14.

still too close for a free ball to go wide. Unsuccessful challenge,

:37:15.:37:17.

17-16. Good answer, Meeuwsen. They are

:37:18.:37:34.

hanging in there. One point for a side switch, sometimes just walked

:37:35.:37:42.

the other side can allow you to have a little meeting with yourself and

:37:43.:37:51.

how the rest of the search will go. -- set. He finally makes one,

:37:52.:38:00.

Brouwer. But they cannot convert it. It is a great dig. No fault to

:38:01.:38:09.

Meeuwsen, he has the swing at this on two blind, in case he got a

:38:10.:38:18.

chance of it in the block. If he didn't get a piece of it in the

:38:19.:38:25.

block, you want to looks set that up.

:38:26.:38:31.

Bruno just going for the line in his jump topspin consistently beating up

:38:32.:38:40.

Brouwer. Half a touch, it is still alive. Long. That is the point on

:38:41.:38:53.

serve that they needed. Side out required for the match now for

:38:54.:38:54.

Brazil. Incredible play by Brunel. Forcing

:38:55.:39:10.

Meeuwsen to get sharper and as long as they get hands on balls and keep

:39:11.:39:16.

the ball in play, there is a mental where that happens for you think you

:39:17.:39:19.

have to be better each time out and eventually you write a real estate

:39:20.:39:21.

and it causes unforced errors. So, time-out at 19-17 to Brazil.

:39:22.:39:26.

They are under real pressure here. The Dutch need to side out and then

:39:27.:39:49.

win a point on their own serve. What has the interesting is the world

:39:50.:39:53.

wanted to know how Brazil would perform in front of their own. In

:39:54.:39:58.

front of 12,000, the majority cheering for Brazil. What has been

:39:59.:40:05.

nice to see is Alison has invited them in rather than feeling the

:40:06.:40:09.

pressure of them, he has used the crowd to his advantage.

:40:10.:40:21.

It is a way. It is three match points. Three points separating

:40:22.:40:32.

Alison and Bruno from a date with the gold medal match.

:40:33.:40:42.

He finds that one crosscourt, Brouwer. They are hanging on, the

:40:43.:40:50.

Dutch. But the Netherlands needs to Macs excess of points that makes

:40:51.:40:55.

successive points or they will battle for bronze. What you need is

:40:56.:41:00.

short-term memory loss, the point before the fact he's caught that

:41:01.:41:05.

last point, you almost want a fresh start, go at its brand-new. Big

:41:06.:41:11.

serve on that point but it had to be, Alison to win it, the block is

:41:12.:41:22.

good. Each point stands alone. Yes, Meeuwsen! He needed the block and

:41:23.:41:27.

has come up with it. Block number six. But they still need another

:41:28.:41:30.

point, third match point. Another monstrous serve, he has done

:41:31.:41:44.

it again! That is the serving for you don't want to be too concerned

:41:45.:41:49.

about the errors and faults at the beginning of this set because once

:41:50.:41:53.

Brouwer found his groove, they are in trouble. What they are doing is

:41:54.:41:58.

forcing Brazil out wide and making the blocking much easier because,

:41:59.:42:05.

and there comes the fault. What they are doing is they are forcing Brazil

:42:06.:42:10.

wives, making Meeuwsen's job on the net slightly easier in terms of the

:42:11.:42:18.

angles he has to cover. Match point. Number of four. Fight it off. Hats

:42:19.:42:31.

off to Brouwer and Meeuwsen. Just to get this far from 17-20 down. He

:42:32.:42:40.

looks relaxed. Smiles about it. Again, they go out wide to Alison,

:42:41.:42:54.

and again, that is the third time in four points they've done that play.

:42:55.:42:59.

The cut served Alison's left, forcing him wide so he can all legal

:43:00.:43:03.

crosscourt, not down the line from that angle. It is a very difficult

:43:04.:43:08.

shots to go down the line from that angle. Third time in four points. It

:43:09.:43:17.

is set points to the Netherlands. My word! Massive round of applause for

:43:18.:43:23.

the Netherlands! How on earth have they managed to pull that back? Is

:43:24.:43:29.

saved four match points. This is a big ask of Alison and Bruno. No

:43:30.:43:37.

doubt, the pressure is on them. Now, are they carrying the weight of the

:43:38.:43:40.

12,000 in this arena? Going which is to come to me you had match point

:43:41.:43:50.

time and time and time again. Talk about some major guts from Brouwer

:43:51.:43:52.

and Meeuwsen. Real drama in the beach volleyball.

:43:53.:44:03.

And gone in the track cycling as well on BBC One. It is gold for

:44:04.:44:10.

Laura Trott. She has made history tonight and retained the gold-medal

:44:11.:44:13.

from four years ago in a women's on and she is now the first British

:44:14.:44:18.

woman to have four Olympic gold medals. We are looking at someone

:44:19.:44:24.

who has done something no British woman has done before. No one in

:44:25.:44:28.

history has ever won four, Laura Trott has succeeded the night. On

:44:29.:44:32.

the track. There could be more medals to follow from Becky James in

:44:33.:44:34.

the sprint final later on. Loads of boxing for you tonight on

:44:35.:44:45.

the red button. We're diving live in a few minutes. In about 15 minutes.

:44:46.:44:52.

There's quite a bit of Team GB action in the boxing ring. Joshua

:44:53.:44:57.

Buatsi and Joe Joyce going later on tonight. You can watch that on the

:44:58.:45:03.

red button at 10. 30 and 10. 45pm. We'll bring you the outcome of this

:45:04.:45:07.

match later on as well. We're going to stay here. We might not be able

:45:08.:45:11.

to see it through to the end, but it's real drama at the beach

:45:12.:45:15.

volleyball arena. Brazil with three match points, but the Netherlands

:45:16.:45:19.

drag today back. We go to -- dragged it back. We go to the deciding set.

:45:20.:45:23.

Remember, it's to 15 in the deciding set, not all the way to 21. First to

:45:24.:45:28.

15 by two clear points will be into the Gold Medal match.

:45:29.:45:36.

COMMENTATOR: This time he makes it. Brouwer has been consistent with

:45:37.:45:45.

that jump topspin down-the-line. He's dancing with the devil out

:45:46.:45:50.

there. Making Alison go drop a knee and get

:45:51.:45:55.

up and tick a swing. That time burying it down-the-line.

:45:56.:45:59.

They're rattled, I think, the Brazilians here. Quickly, third set,

:46:00.:46:07.

first to 15, or two clear points. Oh, it doesn't drop. Side switches

:46:08.:46:12.

every five rather than seven. No technical time-out.

:46:13.:46:19.

Wow. They stuck with it. What I really appreciate is it's high risk,

:46:20.:46:33.

high reward. After Alison buried it down-the-line, the point before,

:46:34.:46:36.

Meeuwsen still stays committed with his angle block. Brouwer trying to

:46:37.:46:42.

slide into that line. It works for him again. I've lost count now, is

:46:43.:46:50.

that five now? Five since 2017 in the -- 20-17 in the second set? No

:46:51.:46:58.

faults. Alison Bruno asked for a challenge. That was on a net fault.

:46:59.:47:07.

Meeuwsen was clean. Five blocks in the last 11 points.

:47:08.:47:16.

Alison has to go with the little tip. He's missed it. Brouwer has

:47:17.:47:24.

miss today. They're extending -- Brewer has missed it. They're

:47:25.:47:29.

extending Alison and their comfort zone. They're stretching it. Brouwer

:47:30.:47:35.

knows that that's where he wants to go. He's having to reach all the way

:47:36.:47:42.

out over his head for that ball. Alison almost beating himself up

:47:43.:47:45.

because he can't make his plays. That will do him the power of good.

:47:46.:47:51.

He's been under the cosh for the last ten points or so. Nothing much

:47:52.:47:56.

has gone right for him. He comes up with a big play. Could have squeezed

:47:57.:48:02.

through his arms that, but it doesn't.

:48:03.:48:14.

Finds the line. Interesting that they would change that up after they

:48:15.:48:19.

scored the last two points on Brouwer. Brouwer missing wide and

:48:20.:48:22.

then getting blocked went away. Meeuwsen tagging the back line on

:48:23.:48:34.

its way out. Takes the pressure off his partner. That was very close.

:48:35.:48:42.

Slight hesitation. Not sure he would have had it any way. It was almost

:48:43.:48:53.

FAs - oh, it went through his hands. That's why Brouwer looked surprised.

:48:54.:49:04.

It's Alison's turn to come up with the big plays. He was enjoying

:49:05.:49:13.

inviting them in until four points from the end of the second set. It's

:49:14.:49:18.

a bit more of a picture of concentration now on Alison's face.

:49:19.:49:34.

The last representatives of Brazil in the men's competition are being

:49:35.:49:43.

given a stern test by the 2013 world champions. The Brazilian pair, the

:49:44.:49:46.

2015 world champions. The number one and two seeds

:49:47.:49:57.

slugging it out on Copacabana. There are small windows to score here.

:49:58.:50:04.

It's going to be interesting to see who recognises them.

:50:05.:50:16.

Alison makes his third block of the set.

:50:17.:50:28.

Up until that point it seemed to be a bit a slug fest. Brouwer tries to

:50:29.:50:35.

go angle high, angle over. The Dutch call a time-out. Trying to

:50:36.:50:47.

take the sting out of the Brazilian game. They dug deep to turn that

:50:48.:50:58.

second set around. They're going to have to dig deep here. Bottom half

:50:59.:51:00.

of the draw. A place in the Gold Medal match up

:51:01.:51:14.

for grabs. STUDIO: Don't get too annoyed. We

:51:15.:51:18.

are leaving it at this point, with good reason. We're bringing you the

:51:19.:51:27.

three metre spring board final in a moment, featuring Jack Laugher. We

:51:28.:51:30.

will come back to this at this exact point later on. If you don't want to

:51:31.:51:35.

know what happens we'll show you later on BBC Four. We leave it here

:51:36.:51:39.

with Brazil leading 7-6 in the deciding set. We are going to go

:51:40.:51:44.

diving. Look at that shot, by the way, beautiful season tonight in Rio

:51:45.:51:49.

de Janeiro. I know that's still not proof we're on Copacabana, for those

:51:50.:51:54.

who don't believe we are and we're actually on a UK beach. Christ

:51:55.:52:00.

redeemer looking down on this beautiful city. One of the beaches

:52:01.:52:08.

that Christ redeemer looks down on. Fishermen live here. The beach

:52:09.:52:12.

spreads four kilometres down. The volley arena is all the way down the

:52:13.:52:17.

other end of this beautiful curve. We're going to diving now. Jack

:52:18.:52:21.

Laugher is involved in the three metre spring board. It's worth

:52:22.:52:25.

reminding you, earlier on in the Games he produced one of the British

:52:26.:52:30.

performances alongside Chris Mears to take the gold.

:52:31.:52:35.

Here come the Brits. First of six rounds for Jack Laugher and Chris

:52:36.:52:49.

Mears. Beautifully composed. This is excellent synchronisation. They're

:52:50.:52:53.

going to be top of the leaderboard after this.

:52:54.:52:58.

Yeah, tremendous. Our boys are still in the running.

:52:59.:53:09.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Are we getting excited or what here? China are not

:53:10.:53:27.

giving up. They're putting up a fight. This is the moment. Here we

:53:28.:53:38.

go. Yes! Come on! That is an Olympic medal for sure. Just the Chinese to

:53:39.:53:46.

follow. 95 wins it for China. Anything less, it is Great Britain

:53:47.:53:54.

gold. No, I don't think it's good enough. It must be gold. Surely it's

:53:55.:54:01.

gold. Oh, my word. It is gold. Pure gold! The boys are in tears,

:54:02.:54:08.

absolutely in bits. The emotion's taken over.

:54:09.:54:11.

We should be live through this diving all the way through, thank

:54:12.:54:15.

you for all your texts and tweets. We'll read some of those later on.

:54:16.:54:23.

Good evening to Helen skeleton. Good evening. Dan walker, lion

:54:24.:54:28.

Taylor and myself have been in the diving pool before and only one of

:54:29.:54:32.

us ended up with a black eye going off the ten metre board and it

:54:33.:54:37.

wasn't Dan! There's still time. We've seen Jack in his Gold Medal

:54:38.:54:44.

victory alongside Chris. The Synchro is a different competition. How

:54:45.:54:51.

different will it be? Jack is having an Olympic success come down. He's

:54:52.:54:55.

trying to get going again. He got six dives out of the way in the

:54:56.:55:01.

prelims. Semifinal, a real mixed bag again. He's made it through. He's

:55:02.:55:05.

start number one in the final, which isn't ideal. He has to do it from

:55:06.:55:10.

like lane eight in the athletics. Why isn't it ideal to go first? The

:55:11.:55:14.

judges aren't expecting the best divers to be. You dive in reverse

:55:15.:55:18.

order from the semifinals. Jack will have to work harder for his marks.

:55:19.:55:22.

As he's introduced behind me, he is one of the world's best and this is

:55:23.:55:26.

way open, Olympic champion, he's out of it. World champion, he's out of

:55:27.:55:32.

it. The guy who's top seed was Olympic Gold Medallist in platform

:55:33.:55:36.

four years ago. This is wide-open. Let's talk about some of the guys

:55:37.:55:40.

who haven't made it through to the final, notably, the defending

:55:41.:55:43.

champion, it's hard to cope a straight face, this is not funny,

:55:44.:55:47.

it's very serious. Talk us through what happened. Zakharov had a knee

:55:48.:55:59.

buckle. He landed on the end and all the power out of his knees. Zeer

:56:00.:56:03.

rows from the judges. That sometimes happens, even to the defending

:56:04.:56:08.

champion. It's difficult for people in this sport, because muck ups

:56:09.:56:14.

become a massive deal. Zakharov is the new Stefan Feck, more YouTube

:56:15.:56:19.

hits. That mess up in London got more hits than Usain Bolt winning.

:56:20.:56:23.

It's not just Jack Laugher that we have interest in the final. Oliver

:56:24.:56:33.

dinningly diving for -- Digley, Ireland's first diver ever. He'll be

:56:34.:56:38.

delighted. I wouldn't be surprise today Olly has done what he's ever

:56:39.:56:42.

dreamed of, in the Olympic final. I'm hoping he goes well. He's

:56:43.:56:47.

surrounded by the big guns. As his coach will be delighted. He's here.

:56:48.:56:51.

Damian used to coach Jack Laugher as well. Damian inadvertently has two

:56:52.:57:01.

in the final. Freddie Woodward dived brilliantly in the pre-limbs but

:57:02.:57:05.

didn't make it through to the final tonight. Jack Laugher, how do you

:57:06.:57:09.

rate his chances given what he's done this morning? He needs to get

:57:10.:57:13.

it together. He needs to do six out of six. Can't be messing up any of

:57:14.:57:18.

his dives. Each dive counts and if he's diving at his best, he'll be

:57:19.:57:23.

difficult to beat. He did say some really interesting things last night

:57:24.:57:27.

after the pre-limbs and this morning after the semifinals. Some worrying

:57:28.:57:31.

things I thought. Sure, you need to do what you need to do to get ready.

:57:32.:57:37.

He's had a chance to get over his massive success and he's got another

:57:38.:57:40.

job to do here. I believe he can do it. Can he hold it together up here?

:57:41.:57:45.

Can he manage his state and do it when it counts? I believe he can.

:57:46.:57:50.

Many others believe it. But does he? He is certainly one of the nicest

:57:51.:57:56.

young men. He spoke to Bob after this morning's semi-nines. Don't do

:57:57.:57:59.

this to us, because that was so tight. Yeah, no, it was the worst

:58:00.:58:07.

performance I've done in four years. Don't really have much to say about.

:58:08.:58:11.

It I scraped through. I saw that I was only two points behind so I knew

:58:12.:58:15.

I could still do it, finish on a higher degree of difficulty dive. It

:58:16.:58:19.

sucked most of the way through apart from the start really. I made the

:58:20.:58:24.

final, that's really where I go ball to the wall and give my everything.

:58:25.:58:28.

Is your head still in the moment of last week, that it's very difficult

:58:29.:58:31.

now to put yourself in the picture of the three metre individual? No. I

:58:32.:58:36.

don't think so. It's just I wanted to make the final very badly. After

:58:37.:58:43.

past Olympics and where I've been improving throughout my career, this

:58:44.:58:47.

is one I wanted to make it. I find the rounds of prelims and semifinals

:58:48.:58:53.

nervewracking. Now I'm in the final, I'm hopes to give it my all. You've

:58:54.:59:00.

had challenging conditions, the prelims with the wind, today with

:59:01.:59:03.

the sun. Does that have an impact? Yeah, of course. It's difficult to

:59:04.:59:06.

replicate those conditions in the UK. We've done a load of training, a

:59:07.:59:11.

two week camp in Florida and we've been here for two weeks. You'd have

:59:12.:59:15.

thought I would be more used to it. Clearly not. Hopefully it will be

:59:16.:59:19.

better tonight. What can we expect from you tonight? And what do you

:59:20.:59:22.

need to do to turn 12th place around to top three? I'm not holding back

:59:23.:59:29.

to be honest. My performance was reserved today. I'm anxious to make

:59:30.:59:34.

the final really. In the back of my head it's always been there. Now I'm

:59:35.:59:38.

in, it's about giving it everything I've got, all the training I've done

:59:39.:59:43.

over the past years, it will come tonight and hopefully I'm going to

:59:44.:59:46.

smash it. That was Jack Laugher. He's going

:59:47.:59:50.

for his second Olympic medal of the competition. He got gold earlier in

:59:51.:59:54.

the week alongside his partner. He's going by himself this evening. He's

:59:55.:00:00.

about to dive. Bob Ballard and Leon Taylor take us through this one.

:00:01.:00:06.
