about to dive. Bob Ballard and Leon Taylor take us through this one.

:00:00.:00:08.

COMMENTATOR: Thank you, Helen. 12 divers, six rounds of dives. Jack

:00:09.:00:13.

Laugher not in a position he wanted but he's in there. He almost missed

:00:14.:00:18.

out, 2. 1 points he was away from not coming back this evening. Now

:00:19.:00:23.

this dive worked particularly well for him this morning. What a good

:00:24.:00:27.

thing it would be if he could get his campaign in the final under way

:00:28.:00:32.

with a good forward two-and-a-half somersaults with two twists.

:00:33.:00:49.

It is good from Jack. His synchronised partner Chris Mears is

:00:50.:00:55.

cheering him on. He is right on the end of the diving board, good

:00:56.:01:00.

height. But he is marginally short on vertical. I would like to see him

:01:01.:01:04.

score nine son this. I think he is going to come away with eights.

:01:05.:01:11.

86.70 is the marker from this morning. Eights will count towards

:01:12.:01:23.

this goal. It was an OK start. 64 yesterday on that, so it is a

:01:24.:01:26.

considerable improvement on where he was in the prelims. Now, this man

:01:27.:01:33.

was the surprise packet. He nearly didn't make it because of an

:01:34.:01:43.

appalling last dive in the semis. Morales has done exceptionally well

:01:44.:01:48.

to get into this final. He is a little inconsistent in training. He

:01:49.:01:53.

is either supersonic or stuck in reverse. This one is OK. He is only

:01:54.:02:01.

going to get sevens, because he rolls through the water and

:02:02.:02:04.

overrotates, his feet coming slightly apart. But of course, the

:02:05.:02:10.

judges do not get the benefit of the replay. That is just for all of us

:02:11.:02:19.

to enjoy. Not a great start for Morales. Now, here is a man who just

:02:20.:02:24.

missed out on a medal in London four years ago. He came fourth in London,

:02:25.:02:33.

eighth in Beijing. He will start with a lower tariff dive compared to

:02:34.:02:34.

Jack. So experienced, but actually making

:02:35.:02:53.

a huge error on his entry into the water. I am not sure what happened.

:02:54.:02:59.

The aerial work is, as usual, really classy. Everything is good, and as

:03:00.:03:04.

he reaches back, for some reason he throws up a load of splash. Like a

:03:05.:03:24.

volcano. Too many Alka-Seltzers. The rest of the band so far is Jack

:03:25.:03:35.

Laugher so far. Oliver Dingley got a bronze medal in the synchro.

:03:36.:03:46.

Superb from Ollie. The judges are looking for a vertical entry, with

:03:47.:03:57.

hardly any splash. And leading the did an excellent opening dive. Could

:03:58.:04:02.

be a little tighter into his pike shape. He is fractionally short of

:04:03.:04:10.

vertical. Apart from that, he is on the money. And if you are wondering

:04:11.:04:17.

about his switch of allegiance, his grandmother is Irish. That allows

:04:18.:04:22.

him to compete for Ireland, that first one since the Second World

:04:23.:04:23.

War. And his marks OK. Here comes the Ukraine diver. Don't

:04:24.:04:54.

get too close to the board. The judges will be keeping an eye on

:04:55.:04:59.

that. If anything, he was a bit too far away. He obviously heard you in

:05:00.:05:03.

the commentary position and thought, I need to move this dive away, so he

:05:04.:05:08.

shoves his backside back too far. The danger is that you don't get

:05:09.:05:11.

enough rotational speed to make the dive. So that was a mistake from

:05:12.:05:19.

Kvasha, who has been here many times before. He came eighth in London,

:05:20.:05:24.

but that is not going to help him. Know, a very unsteady start by some

:05:25.:05:31.

of the main protagonists so far. Now, we see the first of the two

:05:32.:05:38.

Americans. This is the man who was third in the synchro in 2012.

:05:39.:05:58.

Ipsen was very consistent, apart from one died in his semifinal. He

:05:59.:06:04.

was super consistent in the preliminaries. You can see how one

:06:05.:06:10.

mistake, which is all he made, can cost you so many places. He started

:06:11.:06:16.

with three simple dives and he got eights on all of them. I think this

:06:17.:06:20.

is about the same from an execution point of view. Bob has already

:06:21.:06:25.

explained how the judging works. The lines through don't count. In a

:06:26.:06:38.

moment, you will see Cesar Castro of Brazil. Just moving the fulcrum, the

:06:39.:06:46.

little wheel to adjust the tension and tax ability of the board. Well,

:06:47.:06:59.

if anything, he is very neat and tidy, albeit low on degree of

:07:00.:07:01.

difficulty compared to everyone else in this final. He is the grand old

:07:02.:07:08.

age of 33, and of course is very young, but it is grandad age in

:07:09.:07:13.

diving. He will not mind me saying, but he is in the Olympic final in

:07:14.:07:18.

his home country, and what an occasion for the very experienced

:07:19.:07:23.

Cesar Castro, at his fourth games. He will be happy with that opening

:07:24.:07:30.

score. It puts him just below Oliver Dingley. At the moment, Langridge

:07:31.:07:39.

and Bingley are one and two. Now from the oldest of the youngest.

:07:40.:07:50.

Philippe Gagne turns 19 in October. He is a great prospect for Canadian

:07:51.:07:59.

diving. Well, he was hot to trot in the prelims, and then he was a

:08:00.:08:03.

little wishy-washy in the semifinal, but got it together in the end. Only

:08:04.:08:09.

18 years old, nothing to lose, everything to gain. He is very

:08:10.:08:15.

classy when he gets it right. He just fractionally overrotates. Apart

:08:16.:08:29.

from that, very good. He slots into equal third place. I mentioned two

:08:30.:08:41.

Americans. Next is the 22-year-old Mike Hixon of the USA.

:08:42.:08:55.

He will open with their dive you see all the divers do. Hixon faltering

:08:56.:09:08.

slightly on the exit of his dive. He looked consistent in the prelims and

:09:09.:09:16.

semis, but there are a lot of time and also diving from last night all

:09:17.:09:20.

the way through to this evening. The pool looks fantastic. So it is under

:09:21.:09:26.

the spotlights. Just turning into a mini banana as he comes out. He will

:09:27.:09:32.

get caned by the judges. Yes, he and his coach will not like it and the

:09:33.:09:37.

judges definitely do not like it. That is the lowest mark we have seen

:09:38.:09:44.

so far for Hixon. Now, a man who already has two world medals under

:09:45.:09:48.

his belt. He has yet to get an Olympic one. Second in Barcelona in

:09:49.:09:52.

2013. He is definitely the danger man,

:09:53.:10:11.

with Zach flying out of the competition in dramatic fashion with

:10:12.:10:18.

that plant. It is all on this man. When he is on, he is difficult to

:10:19.:10:23.

handle. He was all over that like a spider monkey, spinning around and

:10:24.:10:28.

nowhere to hide. That is high-scoring. How are we doing on

:10:29.:10:36.

the Leon Taylor with the spider monkey bingo? Gentleman at the back?

:10:37.:10:51.

Well done, sir. Onto the incredibly impressive Rommel Pacheco of Mexico.

:10:52.:11:11.

I was about to start saying how wonderful his diving has been. He

:11:12.:11:19.

has been rocking and rolling. And then right on cue, Bob mentions how

:11:20.:11:22.

difficult it is to move a safe distance from the diving board.

:11:23.:11:27.

Rommel try to take his head off on this dive and then lands flat on his

:11:28.:11:31.

back because he stayed in the tuck shop for his own safety. Dangerous

:11:32.:11:38.

diving, and Pacheco, who has been in a medal-winning position for dive

:11:39.:11:44.

after dive, round after round, has just made it very difficult for

:11:45.:11:50.

himself to make it back. Was I not right to highlight it, though? No,

:11:51.:11:53.

just interesting that you highlight it and then he goes and shows you...

:11:54.:12:05.

What I am talking about! You mentioned that Kuznetsov might be

:12:06.:12:10.

the man to beat. He is a danger man. The smart money will be on this man,

:12:11.:12:19.

Cao Yuan of China. The Chinese are below their best at the moment, but

:12:20.:12:24.

not him. World class. I know him as a platform diver. He is only 21 and

:12:25.:12:31.

hasn't done anything on springboard. His team-mate who didn't make it

:12:32.:12:36.

through was a world champion. So this is wide open. A good opening

:12:37.:12:52.

dive from Cao Yuan. China go into the lead by a few points, but it is

:12:53.:12:58.

not a big lead. He did have a little falter in one of his dives this

:12:59.:13:01.

morning, so he wasn't exemplary all the way through. In fact, he was

:13:02.:13:05.

under 500 marks, which is unusual for the Chinese.

:13:06.:13:35.

Onto Round 2. Jack Laugher, reversed three and a half somersaults for the

:13:36.:13:49.

Britain. This morning, 47. Yesterday, 75. If he can get the

:13:50.:13:57.

best of those marks, he is really rocking and rolling, as Lyon might

:13:58.:13:58.

say. Still not sure about Jack's body

:13:59.:14:09.

language. Reverse three-and-a-half for Jack

:14:10.:14:28.

Laugher, joint second after round one. You can put the champagne on

:14:29.:14:33.

ice. Do not open it yet. Make sure it's nice and chilled. Because Jack

:14:34.:14:38.

Laugher has turned up to this final. I disagree his body language, he

:14:39.:14:44.

always looks like that. He's cool, composed. This is what he needs to

:14:45.:14:50.

do, he will get a handful of nines. If he gets over 90 poipts, he's

:14:51.:14:55.

letting his competitors know that he's finally shaken off his success

:14:56.:14:58.

in the synchro and he's into the jacuzzi. That's more like it.

:14:59.:15:05.

Nestling in nicely. 91 nor Jack Laugher. That is a big mark. Over on

:15:06.:15:12.

BBC One right now, you can see Becky James in the sprint final. You might

:15:13.:15:17.

have to do a bit of channel hopping between the diving and the sprint

:15:18.:15:18.

final. That's on BBC One. I like this guy's diving. Colombia

:15:19.:15:38.

aren't a renowned diving nation by any stretch. But this young man, 21

:15:39.:15:44.

years old, has been turning it on through the prelims, through the

:15:45.:15:47.

semis. He's a little bit inconsistent.

:15:48.:15:52.

There's lots that I like about his diving. Fractionally short as he

:15:53.:15:56.

went in. Best result so far have been on the

:15:57.:16:09.

one-metre board. No one metre in the Olympics.

:16:10.:16:12.

There is in the World Championships. I'm a little disappointed. That is

:16:13.:16:35.

an amazing dive but Jonny Howson can do this -- Patrick Housding can do

:16:36.:16:44.

this in the pike position. This is a little bit safe. He can do this dive

:16:45.:16:51.

piked and score eights from the judges. He's been having a bit a

:16:52.:16:55.

tough time from a performance point of view. But that gamble paid off.

:16:56.:17:15.

Two out of two for Oliver Dingley, yes. As David says. This is still a

:17:16.:17:41.

Yorkshire-fest. They're smashing it. Two out of two for Laugher, two out

:17:42.:17:46.

of two for Dingley. This is good, good divering. That's a big story,

:17:47.:17:52.

over 80 points because of the 3. 4 degree of difficulty. Nice work.

:17:53.:17:57.

Very nice work indeed. He'll be happy. His face may belie that. But

:17:58.:18:04.

he's concentrating on what's to come.

:18:05.:18:23.

We already had a restart because of somebody making noise earlier on

:18:24.:18:31.

today. Much better than earlier. He opened up poorly in this final. By

:18:32.:18:42.

his standards. He's on the end of the board. I thought he was over to

:18:43.:18:48.

the side there, leaning sideways. Getting that dive down, a lowish

:18:49.:18:52.

degree of difficulty at 3. 1, compared to some of the other dives

:18:53.:18:56.

in his list and certainly some of the other dives in the other guys'

:18:57.:19:06.

lists of dives. They must do forward, backward, inward, reverse

:19:07.:19:08.

and twist and another one of their choice.

:19:09.:19:21.

There's noisy people in the crowd tonight. They haven't got the diving

:19:22.:19:34.

etiquette down pat yet. Test book diving, isn't it? -- text

:19:35.:19:41.

book. Lowish degree of difficulty. If you're playing safe, you need to

:19:42.:19:46.

absolutely drill your entry, vertical, splashless. Nines coming

:19:47.:19:51.

Ipsen's way. It needs to be that good to keep up with the higher

:19:52.:19:59.

degree of difficulty. Judges sometimes really push the envelope a

:20:00.:20:04.

bit a mark up in the final. They haven't really done that with Ipsen.

:20:05.:20:15.

This man, back in Athens, when Leon was getting his silver medal,

:20:16.:20:17.

finished ninth in this event. Very nice. It's marvellous diving.

:20:18.:20:38.

To see Cesar Castro finally get it together, after featuring in so many

:20:39.:20:47.

finals in graun prays, World Cups -- Grand Prixes, world cups, here is

:20:48.:20:50.

the place to do it. He's diving out of his skin in front of his home

:20:51.:20:54.

crowd. They're loving him. He's loving. It the judges are liking

:20:55.:21:02.

that too. Jack Laugher leading by 16 at the

:21:03.:21:03.

moment. Just imagine nal overrotation there.

:21:04.:21:37.

-- marginal. So impressed with this young man's diving. Pike shape, just

:21:38.:21:42.

look at that. No space between his chest and thighs. That is perfect.

:21:43.:21:49.

Just as I mention, a tad overrotating. Looking for the

:21:50.:21:57.

vertical, splashless entry. There's the grimmace which says, just a

:21:58.:22:01.

little overrotation. Not quite close enough for big marks. He's down the

:22:02.:22:07.

bottom at the moment in terms of those who've gone so far.

:22:08.:22:13.

The man would got a bronze medal in the one metre at the World

:22:14.:22:15.

Championships last year. He's a really, really good twister.

:22:16.:22:44.

He twists very, very quickly. He starts this dive off intending to do

:22:45.:22:48.

a double out, one-and-a-half somersaults into the double twists.

:22:49.:22:52.

He's like lightning through the double twist. Finishes off the dive

:22:53.:22:56.

beautifully. He has a little bit of making up to do after only 60 points

:22:57.:23:02.

on his round one dive. This is going to add 20 to that. So 80 points on

:23:03.:23:08.

this 3. 4. Silver Medallist in the three metre synchro here behind

:23:09.:23:13.

Laugher and Meares. Here's my tip to be there or there

:23:14.:23:27.

abouts at the end. He's been so solid. Snvm

:23:28.:23:33.

That's a cue for something to go wrong, isn't it? It's a bold

:23:34.:23:38.

statement you've just made. I don't know whether I fully agree with you.

:23:39.:23:48.

Sometimes, he's like super on it. Other dives, he looks like he's

:23:49.:23:52.

standing at baggage claim and doesn't know what's going on. Today,

:23:53.:23:58.

so far, he's been good in semis. Little bit inconsistent. So far in

:23:59.:24:02.

this final he's brought his A game. He is a danger man. So you do agree

:24:03.:24:04.

with me then? Well, danger man. He goes into second place above

:24:05.:24:17.

Oliver Dingley. Pacheco's really shaken after his

:24:18.:24:52.

opening round dive, coming in as almost top qualifier. Nearly took

:24:53.:24:57.

his head out on the inward, narrowly missing the board and scalping

:24:58.:25:01.

himself. Now he's faltering on his very easy dive, back two-and-a-half,

:25:02.:25:09.

pike position. Scaffolding that was holding him up is starting to

:25:10.:25:12.

wobble. I think we can write him off now. Yeah, it looks o that way.

:25:13.:25:21.

I think his race is as good as run. He had very good prelims. Excellent

:25:22.:25:33.

semifinal. But when it matters, that's now.

:25:34.:25:49.

That's so much better, sensational from Yuan Cao. He made a pig's ear

:25:50.:26:01.

of this in the semifinal. He is bang on the end on this dive. Up, up and

:26:02.:26:07.

away, three-and-a-half twists, one-and-a-half somersaults, 3. 5

:26:08.:26:10.

degree of difficulty and this is going to be a 90-pointer to go with

:26:11.:26:15.

his 85 in the first round. This is our man to beat. In fact, he wasn't

:26:16.:26:20.

really on the end on that, but he did a much better job. That

:26:21.:26:24.

splashless entry hypnotises the judges. They give them nines, quite

:26:25.:26:31.

right too. Case of catch me if you can, boys. I've got a lead.

:26:32.:26:45.

Have you seen the crowd. They're doing samba dancing over there. It's

:26:46.:26:50.

quite an atmosphere in here this evening. Pleased to see lots of

:26:51.:26:57.

support for Brazil, Mexico, Germany and of course, Jack and Olly, their

:26:58.:27:01.

families are here. They're not disappointing. They're not.

:27:02.:27:05.

Yorkshire's best. You can't beat it. Right Jack, what did he do this

:27:06.:27:24.

morning with this one, 81. 6. He could do with that this time around.

:27:25.:27:29.

This is the dive that has worked well for him in the prelims and the

:27:30.:27:33.

semis. Shhh... Just stating a fact.

:27:34.:27:50.

This inward three-and-a-half has been good. That's the only problem

:27:51.:27:56.

with being the first one up is you do have a bit of a wait.

:27:57.:28:02.

The preparation is so important. You go through the same process each

:28:03.:28:05.

time. Yes! Get in. Tremendous third-round

:28:06.:28:41.

dive from Jack. This is exactly what we wanted. Easy like Sunday morning.

:28:42.:28:46.

He has tons and tons of time. Coming out of the dive, splashless entry,

:28:47.:28:55.

nines coming this young man's way. Jack is following Yuan Cao. They

:28:56.:29:02.

agree. They like it very much. He did that dive time and time again in

:29:03.:29:06.

practice today. I was watching. It he nailed it every single time. I

:29:07.:29:10.

didn't want to say that before the dive. I watched him do that five or

:29:11.:29:12.

six times, at least. Reverse three-and-a-half for

:29:13.:29:33.

Morales.. He will be having lots of problems if he comes any closer to

:29:34.:29:37.

the diving board. Oh, my word. There's been so many divers in this

:29:38.:29:43.

contest coming incredibly close to the diving board. We can't blame it

:29:44.:29:48.

on the weather conditions. That is shonkey technique. That is

:29:49.:29:52.

dangerous, look at this. That anning sl even worse. That is not good --

:29:53.:29:59.

that angle is even worse. That is not good. Judges should heavily

:30:00.:30:04.

penalise this. They're supposed to give two marks for those dives. It

:30:05.:30:12.

is judges' discretion. If it's dangerous they should be giving

:30:13.:30:17.

maximum mark of two. That looked dangerous to me.

:30:18.:30:25.

They have been instructed to give two marks if it looks dangerous, and

:30:26.:30:37.

that did. This was a heck of a dive to do, two and a half somersaults,

:30:38.:30:43.

two and a half twists. He is the only diver that chooses to do this.

:30:44.:30:47.

He has helicopter fleet going on there. His feet are split, spinning

:30:48.:30:52.

around. It's a little bit scrappy, but I think he has pulled it off

:30:53.:30:57.

well enough for sevens. It is a huge dive. He has just about pulled it

:30:58.:31:04.

off. That hurdle step worries me every time on that dive. He goes

:31:05.:31:12.

into second place, but the lead between Hausding and Laugher is 31

:31:13.:31:24.

points at this stage. This man is definitely exceeding our

:31:25.:31:25.

expectations. Not his, I'm sure. It is another top-notch effort from

:31:26.:31:43.

Ollie Dingley. Not quite as good as his second-round dive. He is a safe

:31:44.:31:51.

distance from the diving board. Good shape, just doesn't keep all the

:31:52.:31:58.

splashdown. He will get sevens for that. It is still good. Just losing

:31:59.:32:06.

a bit of tension as he went through. One judge didn't like it, but

:32:07.:32:13.

everyone else did. The marks with lines through don't count, so those

:32:14.:32:16.

scores were good. Here is a man who is giving us licorice

:32:17.:32:27.

all sorts today. You never know what you will get.

:32:28.:32:44.

Well, whatever your favourite suite is, that is what this round throws

:32:45.:32:51.

up for you. Kvasha, doing his most complicated dive. He sometimes makes

:32:52.:32:57.

a dog 's dinner of it, but not today, not in this final. He moves

:32:58.:33:04.

right to the corner of the border and then comes back to the centre.

:33:05.:33:09.

Eights are coming his way. I like the ones with the pimples. Fair

:33:10.:33:14.

enough! I prefer a more luxury suites. Get you, darling! Onto the

:33:15.:33:19.

first of the two Americans. It is a good dive from Ibsen. --

:33:20.:33:51.

Ipsen. He is a technician, and he just lets that marginally

:33:52.:33:52.

overrotates. He had this huge smile during his

:33:53.:34:05.

introduction, and it is back. It can be pretty exhausting, dive after

:34:06.:34:12.

dive, the stress, the anxiety, the expectation. And what expectation on

:34:13.:34:20.

this man's shoulders. He is carrying the whole country of Brazil at the

:34:21.:34:21.

moment. That is his highest degree of

:34:22.:34:41.

difficulty. He needs a huge take-off on this. In fact, he needs to be

:34:42.:34:45.

like the Silver, his team-mate in the pole vault, going up, up under

:34:46.:34:51.

way, giving himself enough time to come out of the dive. He is neat and

:34:52.:34:59.

tidy. They like it. Good hair! If any of you don't know what Bob

:35:00.:35:03.

Ballard looks like, he looks like that! Kind of Rod Stewart from the

:35:04.:35:12.

1970s, that her. Wait till you see the hat of the American later.

:35:13.:35:18.

Sounds like we are doing as got! Castro moves into fifth. Our current

:35:19.:35:28.

leader is Jack Laugher. Philippe Gagne potentially showing

:35:29.:35:44.

his inexperience. The Olympic Games are like jigsaw sometimes. You have

:35:45.:35:49.

to get it together and sometimes you have to give it another go. That is

:35:50.:35:53.

what will happen with this man. Youngest in the final. He is not on

:35:54.:35:59.

his game here. Maybe he used up all his good dives to get here. A couple

:36:00.:36:05.

of missing pieces to that jigsaw. But we will see more of him. It is

:36:06.:36:14.

early days for him. There are maybe one or two more Olympics in his

:36:15.:36:15.

repertoire. I thought Mike Hixon might be

:36:16.:36:34.

pushing for top three, but he will have to do a few -- Herculean job to

:36:35.:36:49.

get anywhere near that now. He does so well.

:36:50.:36:50.

Just a little bit of splash being thrown up. But it is beautiful to

:36:51.:37:00.

watch him do this dive. Like clockwork, up, twist, smoothly into

:37:01.:37:11.

the water. If he was cleaner, with less splash, he would be getting

:37:12.:37:23.

nines. The American will go up a few places off the back of that. Can

:37:24.:37:32.

Kuznetsov do his most complicated dive? We will see this from Jack

:37:33.:37:38.

Laugher later. 3.9 degrees of difficulty. Think of the marks he

:37:39.:37:43.

can get if he nails this. It would be over 100 marks. It is pretty good

:37:44.:37:53.

for him, but I have never seen him score over 100 marks. Has he gone

:37:54.:37:59.

from contender to pretender with this dive? Is that going to keep him

:38:00.:38:06.

in the mix? It is a huge degree of difficulty. If the judges came him

:38:07.:38:10.

from being in the middle of the pool, which they have done

:38:11.:38:14.

previously, he will go from contender to pretender. Has my money

:38:15.:38:22.

gone, then? Evgeny Kuznetsov has let me down, big-time.

:38:23.:38:39.

Many Mexicans have made their way here to support Rommel Pacheco.

:38:40.:38:53.

Rommel has finally found his form, but I fear it is too late. Diving so

:38:54.:39:10.

well in the earlier rounds. Sadly, floundering in his first two dives,

:39:11.:39:24.

a bit like new mode and Dory. -- two and Dory. So Rommel has work to do.

:39:25.:39:32.

Three to go after this. The only diver below him is Morales,

:39:33.:39:54.

and there are plenty above him as we get to the last diver. This will

:39:55.:39:59.

signify halfway through the final of the men's three metres springboard.

:40:00.:40:03.

Our leader has not put a foot wrong so far, Cao Yuan of China. He is

:40:04.:40:21.

superior. Wow! Wow, wow, wow. Whatever he was doing by rubbing his

:40:22.:40:25.

eyebrows, it certainly worked, because this is bang on the money.

:40:26.:40:30.

3.5 degrees of difficulty, and he is just so sharp into the water. He is

:40:31.:40:46.

the man to beat, out in the lead. It was rammed to that let him down in

:40:47.:40:47.

the semifinal. -- Round 2. So we are halfway in the men's three

:40:48.:41:30.

metres springboard final. Jack Laugher, 81, 91 and 90 so far.

:41:31.:41:41.

Forward during the half with three twists is

:41:42.:41:47.

the biggest dive in his programme. I will reiterate again, as we get a

:41:48.:41:54.

nice, wide shot of the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre, passing over

:41:55.:42:02.

whether water polo and synchronised swimming have been. This is Jack's

:42:03.:42:09.

highest degree of difficulty. Let's do this. He hasn't yet done it to

:42:10.:42:19.

the extent that he can. So this would be a very good dive. I want to

:42:20.:42:30.

hear come on from Leon Taylor after this!

:42:31.:42:42.

Oh, it's good. It is good. He got caught a bit on that. Such a big

:42:43.:42:53.

dive, he is a bit stuck, so he has to re-Pike quite aggressively. He

:42:54.:43:00.

doesn't quite straighten up and then overrotates ever so slightly. Look

:43:01.:43:06.

at the muscle definition, being pulled every which way like he is in

:43:07.:43:11.

a tumble dryer. I am not sure which way the judges will go with that. He

:43:12.:43:14.

does a very good job considering the take-off. That is OK. They were not

:43:15.:43:30.

sure either. Because it has such a high degree of difficulty, that does

:43:31.:43:34.

bulk of the marks up. Still the best he has done with that dive, by the

:43:35.:43:47.

way. Jack will do this dive in the next round. Oh, dear. Well, that is

:43:48.:43:57.

our first surfboard moment here. Jumps up through the roof. You can

:43:58.:44:07.

see how easy it is to make mistakes. Morales goes right up into the sky

:44:08.:44:11.

like he is Batman, and then sadly doesn't know what to do with that

:44:12.:44:16.

great take-off and ends up over rotating, landing almost flat on his

:44:17.:44:21.

back, a little bit like a smack down that you would expect in wrestling.

:44:22.:44:28.

Not a great time to do WWE E4 Morales. He will go off rather

:44:29.:44:36.

disconsolately, because he has been good in the prelims and semis.

:44:37.:44:58.

Well, very nice. Very nice indeed. Is that going to keep him in

:44:59.:45:07.

contention? Such, such good technique. Correct distance from the

:45:08.:45:15.

diving board. Mechanically and biomechanically sound as a pound.

:45:16.:45:20.

Just not quite keeping all the splash down. If you get eights on a

:45:21.:45:30.

3. 4 that's what you get. Just grabbed seven points back off Jack

:45:31.:45:38.

Laugher. Still a big gap, though. 23 between Jack and Patrick

:45:39.:45:39.

Hausding. Yes. Well done Olly. That's four out

:45:40.:46:06.

of four. Look at the delight on his coach's face. Quite right too. I

:46:07.:46:13.

take my hat off. I wasn't sure whether Olly would be overwhelmed in

:46:14.:46:19.

this. I take my hat off to him, I should say. As I get funny looks as

:46:20.:46:26.

usual from my co-commentator! Oliver Dingley rocking and rolling. I

:46:27.:46:29.

wasn't looking at you at all. What are you talking about? You're making

:46:30.:46:34.

stuff up now man. I've got head phones on, not a hat. You said it!

:46:35.:46:48.

Bob has a top hat, and a pocket watch. Stop right there.

:46:49.:47:05.

Oh, he's on it. Stunning dive. That's the first in a few of these

:47:06.:47:15.

we will see in the remaining rounds. Kvasha opening dive let him down a

:47:16.:47:21.

bit. But he is making moves. Samba moves in fact. Nice. Count the

:47:22.:47:29.

somersaults, four-and-a-half of them. Beautiful vertical entry. This

:47:30.:47:37.

is going to be a huge score. He likes it. I like it. And the judges

:47:38.:47:41.

think this: They think very highly of it. The highest mark, second

:47:42.:47:50.

highest mark we've had. Cao Yuan had a 94.

:47:51.:48:04.

Well both these American divers know how to twist. Both of them electing

:48:05.:48:14.

to do this dive. They make easy work of it. Well, so beautiful to watch.

:48:15.:48:21.

When diving is done like this, it is so classy. So classy. Has someone

:48:22.:48:30.

just flicked a switch and this event has gone into another realm on the

:48:31.:48:39.

back of those last few dives. Might have left it a little too late to

:48:40.:48:42.

come to the party. We'll see. Very nice. The reason he gets that

:48:43.:49:16.

many points in Athens, they used to do the required dives and then the

:49:17.:49:20.

optional dives. It can be misleading when we look back at the points

:49:21.:49:24.

totals. But Cesar Castro is diving the best he's ever dived. This is

:49:25.:49:31.

his first Olympic final. He is here and diving at his very, very best. I

:49:32.:49:37.

was surprised to see him make it through the semifinals. The

:49:38.:49:41.

Brazilian fans are delighted he is here. He is performing tricks for

:49:42.:49:44.

them. Not been the night that Philippe

:49:45.:50:05.

Gagne would have hoped for when he stepped on the board.

:50:06.:50:14.

A little low to the water. Great balance. Good take-off. Just cuts in

:50:15.:50:27.

a little bit too soon. Then doesn't quite have enough time to finish the

:50:28.:50:33.

dive off. One of his better efforts in the final. It's a shame he didn't

:50:34.:50:38.

have a three-and-a-half metre platform to go off. That would have

:50:39.:50:40.

been ideal from that height. We've seen very good diving from

:50:41.:51:23.

this man. Great take-off. Fantastic board work. Superb aerial work, just

:51:24.:51:29.

marginally overrotating as he goes into the water. That will be costly

:51:30.:51:35.

from a points point of view. Opening up his chest as he goes in. Throwing

:51:36.:51:41.

up a bit of splash. The judges won't go above a seven, which is a shame.

:51:42.:51:47.

He did all the hard work. It's like being stuck in a salad spinner, just

:51:48.:51:53.

overrotating. Trying to get himself dry now.

:51:54.:52:03.

We had a side bet earlier this man might get into the medals. I don't

:52:04.:52:08.

think it will happen now. Oh, it's lovely. I don't know how

:52:09.:52:30.

else to describe that. I wasn't expecting such a good dive. On this

:52:31.:52:34.

one, he's been struggling all week on this. This is amazing. Only a few

:52:35.:52:39.

of the divers electing to do this dive. It's so difficult. Jack

:52:40.:52:46.

Laugher finishes on it. Wow. What a dive. Well, he's back in the running

:52:47.:52:52.

again, off the back of that. He certainly will be. He's into the top

:52:53.:52:58.

three. That's ninja-like diving. So precise. Remember, it is six rounds.

:52:59.:53:08.

There's a lot of ebb and flow. Well, Pacheco is diving well again,

:53:09.:53:24.

but first two rounds will have let him down. He has got a lot of work

:53:25.:53:32.

to do. 45 and 58 on the first two. 86 on the third round that. One will

:53:33.:53:38.

be up there, near 80 points. Well done. He will be poised if the

:53:39.:53:48.

front runners start to faulter. But he has left himself a bit too much

:53:49.:53:53.

to do. The other thing is, even though those marks are brilliant, he

:53:54.:53:56.

hasn't moved a place. He's still 11th.

:53:57.:54:03.

Despite that being a great dive and the one before it being impressive

:54:04.:54:10.

too, he hasn't moved an inch. This man rock solid in first place.

:54:11.:54:36.

Well, it's another tremendous dive. The only Chinese diver to make it

:54:37.:54:46.

through to this point. His team-mate and world champion exited the

:54:47.:54:50.

competition very, very early, which is a surprise to everyone. Cao Yuan

:54:51.:54:56.

hijacking this competition now. He is slamming down some serious

:54:57.:55:03.

scores. He's way out in front now. Just saying that it wasn't quite

:55:04.:55:08.

right. Maybe slightly short, a grow. But only 8. 8. 5 short. Hasn't gone

:55:09.:55:18.

down below 85 so far. Three in the 90s. That's why he has a sizeable

:55:19.:55:21.

lead at the end of round four. Now this is a dive that has to work

:55:22.:55:58.

for Jack. It has not done thus far. It's been his bogey dive in Rio. Not

:55:59.:56:05.

normally his bogey dive. Did very well in the synchro the other day.

:56:06.:56:11.

But individually, only 55 and 39 marks respectively from prelims to

:56:12.:56:15.

semis. That's the back of Tom Daley's head.

:56:16.:56:28.

He knows, as his coach knows, as you know and I know too, just important

:56:29.:56:35.

this dive is. This could be the difference between a medal and not.

:56:36.:56:54.

Yes! Outstanding. Again, just when he needed it. He digs to the bottom

:56:55.:57:05.

of his toy box or whatever he needed to go to pick that one out. This is

:57:06.:57:10.

superb stuff from Jack. Jumping Jack, look how high he goes, up into

:57:11.:57:14.

the air, disappearing into the water. This is way over 90 points.

:57:15.:57:20.

Jack is in the medals with a dive to go. Let's not get ahead of

:57:21.:57:26.

ourselves, but my word, he's finally settled down after the prelims and

:57:27.:57:31.

the semifinals. Look at those scores. Jumping jash flash is a gas,

:57:32.:57:36.

gas, gas. It's all working for Jack. It's a better one for Morales. He's

:57:37.:58:08.

been here and there this evening in the final. We look back at a montage

:58:09.:58:15.

of his dives, you will see the range of brilliance all the way through to

:58:16.:58:24.

things that aren't quite as good. He's only 21 years old. We're going

:58:25.:58:28.

to see this young diver from Colombia a lot more over the years.

:58:29.:58:33.

He is certainly knocking out some big degree of difficulty. Finds

:58:34.:58:36.

himself a bit shipwrecked today though. Look forward to seeing him

:58:37.:58:39.

at the worlds next year. Well, yes. My goodness, he was as

:58:40.:59:04.

high as sugar loaf mountain there. His board timing is exceptional. He

:59:05.:59:09.

goes up, up, up, up, way above the five metre, almost in line with the

:59:10.:59:14.

7. 5 metre. That is impressive stuff from our German. This is as good as

:59:15.:59:19.

Jack Laugher's if not marginally better. What a dive from Hausding.

:59:20.:59:24.

Fourth previously in the Olympic Games. Safe as Hausding. We're

:59:25.:59:36.

getting close to the three figures, will we see one in the competition?

:59:37.:59:42.

That's as close as we have come. Oliver Dingley. He used to represent

:59:43.:59:49.

England/Great Britain, now he's an Irish diver.

:59:50.:00:00.

That's the first slight mistake we've seen from Oliver Dingley,

:00:01.:00:09.

landed hanging ten, toes over the ebbed of the diving board -- end.

:00:10.:00:14.

Just toes creeping over the end. He needed to perform a little bit of

:00:15.:00:20.

jigery pokery to get that round, which he does, but not getting the

:00:21.:00:23.

entry he needs to get more than sevens. A bit of splash being thrown

:00:24.:00:28.

up. Still good diving from this young man. Great work.

:00:29.:00:32.

He would have had to hope for a lot of people to faulter to get a middal

:00:33.:00:37.

tonight, because his programme in terms of degree of difficulty,

:00:38.:00:42.

doesn't match the upper echelon. That's the lowest mark he's got

:00:43.:00:43.

tonight. Illya Kvasha is in third place. But

:00:44.:01:01.

this is a low degree of difficulty, which will punish him a bit. The man

:01:02.:01:19.

from Ukraine. Nothing to do with the man from Del Monte, the tinned

:01:20.:01:23.

fruits! He opened up his chest of it as he extends for the water. That

:01:24.:01:32.

will cost him. You can see the disappointment on his face. Wow, it

:01:33.:01:34.

is costly. And on the American. He is in range

:01:35.:01:46.

of the top three. A lot of noise there. But actually,

:01:47.:02:10.

he nailed it. He made a real hodgepodge of this in the semifinal.

:02:11.:02:15.

This was the only dive that he dropped. There was a shout, I'm not

:02:16.:02:21.

sure why or who it was. But that was a big dive. I don't think he will

:02:22.:02:28.

ask for a re-dive, because that is still very good. He is talking to

:02:29.:02:38.

his coach about it. Doesn't look as though it will happen, but he did

:02:39.:02:53.

ask. He is up into fourth. This fantastic war around the Maria Lenk

:02:54.:02:57.

Aquatics Centre. It is an old facility that has been carted up a

:02:58.:02:59.

bit. That is probably the first error he

:03:00.:03:16.

has made this evening. The degree of difficulty is low on all of his

:03:17.:03:20.

dives compared to the other athletes in this final. A bit of splash going

:03:21.:03:27.

away from the diving board. This will probably be his lowest scoring

:03:28.:03:32.

dive thus far. Now, Philippe Gagne. He has sadly

:03:33.:04:03.

been under par compared to where he was in the prelims and semifinals.

:04:04.:04:13.

He is just a bit off again. What a shame. He has been a delight to

:04:14.:04:24.

watch. Some exquisite efforts in the prelims and the semifinal. But not

:04:25.:04:33.

matching the form that got him here. Inexperience, maybe. Grimaces all

:04:34.:04:39.

round for this young Canadian talent. He will be back, I'm sure. A

:04:40.:04:50.

great experience for him, Olympic final at the age of 19. We have

:04:51.:05:01.

seen this next dive performed pretty well and also pretty abysmally. So

:05:02.:05:08.

where will Mike Hixon hitches trailer?

:05:09.:05:19.

There was a lot of risk. He makes an error on his take-off, leans too far

:05:20.:05:27.

forward. Only just get his feet on the end of the board. Does he get a

:05:28.:05:35.

good arm swing? He does a good job of hanging on. A bit of a tumbleweed

:05:36.:05:42.

moment from the crowd, especially from the American contingent. They

:05:43.:05:49.

know that is costly. He would have had his eyes on a prize, a minor

:05:50.:05:54.

medal at the least, with the way he has been diving. But he will have to

:05:55.:05:59.

make do with the silver he got the other day from the Synchro, which is

:06:00.:06:03.

still a good reward to take from Rio. We have seen the best and worst

:06:04.:06:09.

of Evgeny Kuznetsov tonight. He has been a bit of a surprise

:06:10.:06:24.

package for me this evening. You never know what to expect. That is

:06:25.:06:33.

not one of his best efforts this evening, but he has found himself in

:06:34.:06:38.

contention for the medals. He was in fourth place after the fourth round.

:06:39.:06:46.

Where will he be after this? P stays precisely where he was.

:06:47.:06:58.

Two more dives to go in the penultimate round before we can give

:06:59.:07:04.

you the standings at the end of Round 5.

:07:05.:07:15.

It is a good dive. A shame to see Rommel off the pace after he has

:07:16.:07:25.

been in the top three in the prelims and semifinals. It has been a

:07:26.:07:27.

merry-go-round. Back to the fairground for Pacheco.

:07:28.:07:56.

He moves up a place into tent. -- into tenth place. Seven is here for

:07:57.:08:04.

Cao Yuan, and he will leapfrog Jack Laugher again. Sevens or under, and

:08:05.:08:12.

Jack Laugher will be in first place, with one round to go.

:08:13.:08:22.

What a show we are seeing from this young man, only 21 years old. He

:08:23.:08:47.

will still be in front after this dive. He will be up in the '80s. And

:08:48.:08:59.

he has not been anywhere other than the mid-90s.

:09:00.:09:11.

It is 6.7, so that is a 15 point advantage over Jack Laugher -- 86.7.

:09:12.:09:20.

How does it look from a British perspective? There is Patrick

:09:21.:09:27.

Hausding. He's into third. And Jack Laugher is in second. It looks like

:09:28.:09:40.

it will be those three for the three medals. It does, they are a country

:09:41.:09:46.

mile out. Those are our three medallists. Unless something

:09:47.:09:51.

disastrous happens to the top three, the rest will be scrapping for

:09:52.:10:00.

places outside the top three. A little way to go before Hausding is

:10:01.:10:11.

in the position to dive. He has to make up 22 points on Jack Laugher.

:10:12.:10:22.

Jack Laugher have a 3.6. This is his favourite dive. He chooses to do

:10:23.:10:28.

this last. He has definitely found his gear this evening. One more to

:10:29.:10:32.

go for Jack Laugher. What colour medal will it be? The World

:10:33.:10:39.

Championship bronze medallist from last year in Kazan can go one place

:10:40.:10:46.

better, potentially two places better, than he did in Russia last

:10:47.:10:52.

year. But he has to finish what has been an exemplary programme.

:10:53.:11:08.

Yes! That is an Olympic medal for Jack Laugher. He has put that out of

:11:09.:11:16.

reach, I'm pretty sure Hausding can't catch him. This is good enough

:11:17.:11:23.

by Laugher. A monumental effort out there today. He was all over the

:11:24.:11:27.

place in the prelims and the semis, but that doesn't matter. We don't

:11:28.:11:31.

care! He has come out this evening and he has delivered. He is the

:11:32.:11:36.

mailman, he always delivers. That is two medals! He always has to wait

:11:37.:11:47.

ages for his marks. That is the best he has done in three rounds on his

:11:48.:11:55.

favourite dive. Patrick Hausding cannot catch him. The only person

:11:56.:12:02.

who can beat him is Cao Yuan. Jack Laugher has at least a silver to add

:12:03.:12:06.

to the gold in the Synchro a few days ago. What a competition that

:12:07.:12:10.

has been. What a week this has been for Jack Laugher in Rio.

:12:11.:12:28.

Sebastian Morales round it off in fine style. He has had a bit of an

:12:29.:12:35.

unfortunate outing in this final. He has had a few dives that have gone

:12:36.:12:41.

awry. This is a good one for him to finish. Got himself in a muddle on a

:12:42.:12:47.

few of his dives, particularly his fourth-round dive, where he only

:12:48.:12:51.

scored 34 points. This one will double that and a bit more. It is a

:12:52.:12:56.

strong finish from the 21-year-old Colombian.

:12:57.:13:07.

Hausding now looks to protect what he has, which is the place.

:13:08.:13:35.

-- third place. It is an easy bronze. Too much to do to catch Jack

:13:36.:13:47.

Laugher. Hausding has been consistent. First dive was a bit

:13:48.:13:52.

off. He scored 98 points on his last dive. The house are going to go wild

:13:53.:14:01.

when they see the scores. Hausding is a dead cert for the bronze. He

:14:02.:14:09.

will be really cross with himself after his opening dive went awry.

:14:10.:14:14.

Will he break 500? He will be quite close. He looks disconsolate,

:14:15.:14:21.

considering he will get at least third place. What a great finish by

:14:22.:14:33.

the German. Just left it to let after that poor 63 in the opening

:14:34.:14:37.

round gave 18 points away to Jack Laugher from the off. Oliver Dingley

:14:38.:14:50.

goes next for Ireland. It is a back two and a half somersaults with one

:14:51.:14:56.

and a half twists. He has done himself and Ireland proud today.

:14:57.:15:12.

Well ding-a-ling Dingley, amazing stuff from Olly. Amazing list of

:15:13.:15:19.

dives. Who'd have thought he'd be in the final? Wow. Yorkshire-fest. What

:15:20.:15:28.

a celebration. I bet they're all still up at home, cheering,

:15:29.:15:32.

celebrating and toasting, as they should be. Crack open the champagne.

:15:33.:15:39.

And have some nibbles while you're at it. Well done, Harrogate proud of

:15:40.:15:45.

you, Ireland proud of you. You know what, he's going to probably be in

:15:46.:15:50.

around the top six. That's fantastic. Only round five letting

:15:51.:15:56.

him down a bit. That's a very, very, very good performance. Now Kvasha

:15:57.:16:03.

will be thinking, well, I can't do anything really other than dive the

:16:04.:16:07.

best I can. Bronze is out of reach. Silver is out of reach.

:16:08.:16:27.

Oh, he's finished with a terrific final dive. I think it's too little

:16:28.:16:38.

too late. He would have needed 107 points to cash Hausding. I think Bob

:16:39.:16:42.

is right with his prediction. He will be just outside the medals. He

:16:43.:16:48.

also will be disappointed with the mistakes he made earlier in the

:16:49.:16:49.

programme. So he finishes, at the moment, in

:16:50.:17:07.

third. That will be knocked down to fourth because Cao Yuan is still to

:17:08.:17:13.

go at the end of the programme. He needs 74 to beat Jack Laugher. We're

:17:14.:17:17.

only halfway through. Zblt sirens go off again. Oh, super

:17:18.:17:45.

twisting. He did not use this in the semifinal. He saved this for the

:17:46.:17:51.

final. What an absolute warrior. What a dive. He's left himself too

:17:52.:17:58.

much to do to get into the medals. But that is a heck of a dive to

:17:59.:18:03.

finish on. That's probably the best effort we've seen on that dive

:18:04.:18:08.

today. What will he get on that? And will it make a difference to the

:18:09.:18:11.

places for fifth and sixth? Let's see. We wait and we finally get the

:18:12.:18:19.

answer. He actually knocks Illya Kvasha down a place with that.

:18:20.:18:24.

They're separated by 0. 7 of a mark. Big crescendo of noise around the

:18:25.:18:41.

Aquatic Centre for the last dive. It's not a particularly impressive

:18:42.:18:45.

one in terms of tariff. But it will be impressive for this crowd, who

:18:46.:18:49.

have been known to boo the judge it's they don't get what they like.

:18:50.:19:07.

What a dive to finish on. It's not the most complicated dive we've

:19:08.:19:17.

seen, but that was beautifully executed, so neat, so tidy. Fourth

:19:18.:19:24.

Olympic Games, Cesar Castro delivers in front of a home crowd, with all

:19:25.:19:30.

the expectation, he has performed to the very, very best of his ability.

:19:31.:19:38.

That's all you can ask for. Ninth after round five. Look at his face.

:19:39.:19:50.

Just taking it all in. Appearing and diving for your home crowd, bowing

:19:51.:19:58.

to all callers. Loving it. They're loving him. His coach fully

:19:59.:20:09.

appreciative of that. He'll be in the middle of the pack. Thanks to

:20:10.:20:14.

the Brazilian people and those who have supported him. Jack is chatting

:20:15.:20:18.

with Oliver Dingley about that medal.

:20:19.:20:35.

Such an elegant, classy diver. We are going to see so much more from

:20:36.:20:53.

this young Canadian. Very impressed with him, all the way through.

:20:54.:20:58.

Didn't quite get it right this evening in the final, but he earned

:20:59.:21:05.

his spot. Canada, who have lacked in quality for male divers for a number

:21:06.:21:12.

of years, this is the new man on the block. Great work. A lot of

:21:13.:21:19.

potential there. Came onto the scene at 15.

:21:20.:21:24.

His first Olympics out of the way with a 425. Placing eight or nine at

:21:25.:21:35.

the end. Mike Hixon threatened the likes of

:21:36.:21:41.

Hausding and Laugher. But it wasn't to be in the end.

:21:42.:22:03.

An underwhelming finish there from Hixon. He looked as though he might

:22:04.:22:10.

be a contender. Watching him dive, of course, already Olympic Silver

:22:11.:22:15.

Medallist in the three metre synchro. No individual medal for

:22:16.:22:21.

Hixon today. Some excellent diving throughout the rounds. Not quite on

:22:22.:22:30.

it in the final. So the final marks and the total mark for Hixon coming

:22:31.:22:42.

up. Yeah not the greatest from him. He finishes below Castro who makes

:22:43.:22:51.

up a place. This man might be in the shake up,

:22:52.:22:56.

but it wasn't to be for Evgenii Kuznetsov. He could get himself into

:22:57.:22:59.

the upper echelon of the 400s. Beautiful dive to finish on. He has

:23:00.:23:26.

only got four of his six dives right, faltering on round three and

:23:27.:23:31.

slightly on round five, which means he'll be outside the medals. It's

:23:32.:23:37.

all about consistency. Every single I do counts. He needed an impossible

:23:38.:23:40.

score to get into the medals. The Chinese diver still to come.

:23:41.:24:02.

That's his highest mark. But he finishes some 17 points behind

:24:03.:24:06.

Patrick Hausding. There are two more to go. The important one, of course,

:24:07.:24:08.

at the very end. The best he can hope for now, with

:24:09.:24:29.

eight-and-a-halves, he can get in the top seven. What a shame for him.

:24:30.:24:47.

He's retired to spring board. He is a phenomenal spring board diver. We

:24:48.:24:52.

saw that in the preliminaries and semifinals. He was making headway in

:24:53.:24:57.

the field and then he turned up to the final and sadly, first two dives

:24:58.:25:01.

were way off the running. He has not been able to catch up. That's a

:25:02.:25:05.

great final dive. Too little too late. What a shame for Pacheco.

:25:06.:25:15.

Seventh overall. 74 is the magic number for Cao Yuan. It's the dive

:25:16.:25:24.

you've just seen. It is fraught with danger. It is a very difficult dive.

:25:25.:25:30.

When it goes spectacularly wrong, it looks spectacularly bad. He did get

:25:31.:25:33.

91 points on this in the semifinals. He needs 74 to overtake Jack

:25:34.:25:41.

Laugher. Gold for China. Without a shadow of

:25:42.:26:06.

a doubt. Brans for that man there, Hausding and silver for Jack

:26:07.:26:11.

Laugher. Congratulations, because Cao Yuan did not look as though he

:26:12.:26:17.

was going to give that away. He has outclassed everyone. This will be a

:26:18.:26:24.

huge score. He will be 20-plus points clear, maybe even more than

:26:25.:26:36.

that. 523 for Jack Laugher. 523. 85. What are the final marks for Cao

:26:37.:26:43.

Yuan. 96. 90. He finishes on 5 #47. 47. . Not close in the end, 24

:26:44.:26:48.

points. There are the gold and Silver Medallists. Congratulations

:26:49.:26:53.

coming in from the Canadian coach. That is Chinese gold but Jack

:26:54.:26:58.

Laugher has a silver to add to the gold he got in the synchro with

:26:59.:27:04.

Chris Mears just a few days ago. Only two went over 5 hup 00. We --

:27:05.:27:16.

500. What a competition that was and isn't it great that Jack Laugher

:27:17.:27:20.

brought his A game to the final, well below par in the prelims. Very

:27:21.:27:26.

much below par in the semifinals. When the final came round, every

:27:27.:27:31.

mark, aside from round four, when he was slightly off, I do mean

:27:32.:27:38.

slightly, everything else, from Jack Laugher and a final mark of 523. Are

:27:39.:27:42.

we having another marriage proposal there? I don't know. Already one for

:27:43.:27:48.

the Chinese. It's gold most definitely. There's Andy Banks in

:27:49.:27:58.

the midst of it all. Well, that is fantastic. Three medals now for

:27:59.:28:06.

Great Britain. Best return ever and Tom Daley's still to come. We have

:28:07.:28:16.

the ladies to go in the ten metre. Prelims tomorrow and Tonia Couch and

:28:17.:28:18.

Sarah Barrow going in that. One more thing to wrap up for you is

:28:19.:28:35.

where Oliver Dingley finished up. Not in the top six, but a very good

:28:36.:28:39.

performance by the former Englishman, now representing

:28:40.:28:42.

Ireland, and of course from Harrogate. Oliver Dingley very good

:28:43.:28:52.

dinningly, 442 in eighth place. STUDIO: Big thank you to Bob and

:28:53.:28:57.

Leon there. What a performance from Jack Laugher, a gold and a silver at

:28:58.:29:03.

these Games. Gold along with Chris Mears, his partner, in the synchro

:29:04.:29:09.

spring board an a silver. As Bob was saying there, just squeezed into the

:29:10.:29:13.

final. Qualified 12th and then produced the goods when it really

:29:14.:29:17.

mattered. That is Team GB's 50th medal of these Games. We'll show you

:29:18.:29:22.

the medal table and get more reaction from Jack Laugher,

:29:23.:29:26.

hopefully his diving partner Chris Mears is there as well. Leon Taylor

:29:27.:29:31.

is making his way to speak to Helen as well. We will bring you the

:29:32.:29:37.

ceremony as well. On a crazy day, terrific Tuesday, tremendous

:29:38.:29:40.

Tuesday, whatever you'd like to call it, it's been a marvellous day 11 at

:29:41.:29:43.

these Gamesment Let's bring you up to

:29:44.:29:51.

date, Jason Kenny has taken gold in the men's Kieran, the sixth gold,

:29:52.:30:01.

and the bronze as well. Laura Trott, his fiance, a wonderful night for

:30:02.:30:05.

her too. Gold in the Omnium, a dominant performance. Her fourth

:30:06.:30:09.

gold of her career. More than any other British woman. They are the

:30:10.:30:17.

golden couple. It didn't end there. Becky James silver in the women's

:30:18.:30:23.

sprint. Kirsten Vogle won the gold. There was a bronze in the same event

:30:24.:30:30.

for Katie Marchant. Every member of Team GB's track cycling team has won

:30:31.:30:32.

at least one medal at these Games. and a half twists. He has done

:30:33.:30:38.

himself and Ireland proud today. And the medals continue, because in

:30:39.:30:50.

the sailing, there was a gold for Giles Scott. It was guaranteed

:30:51.:30:56.

yesterday, confirmed today in the medal race. That as a fifth straight

:30:57.:30:59.

Games on the trot that there has been gold in the Finn class in the

:31:00.:31:06.

sailing. That was followed, you've guessed it, by another gold for

:31:07.:31:10.

Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark. And we have just seen Jack Laugher take

:31:11.:31:12.

silver in the three metre springboard. There were two bronzes

:31:13.:31:24.

in the gymnastics, the final day of the gymnastics. Amy Tinkler took

:31:25.:31:29.

bronze on the floor. Simone Biles of the USA won the gold. And Nile

:31:30.:31:33.

Wilson, the first Briton to ever reach a final in the higher bar,

:31:34.:31:41.

took the bronze as well. Let's show you the medal table.

:31:42.:31:52.

Team GB were third in the medal table overall in London four years

:31:53.:32:04.

ago, when they won 65 medals. They already have 16 more medals than

:32:05.:32:12.

they had in Beijing eight years ago. Thank you so much for all the texts

:32:13.:32:16.

and tweets you have been sending. I know Milik -- normally at this

:32:17.:32:20.

point, we are talking about binmen and having fun, but we have medals

:32:21.:32:24.

to talk about! Jack Laugher, smashing the diving, what a night to

:32:25.:32:28.

be British, says Lee. Another says diving is my new favourite Olympic

:32:29.:32:35.

sport. Another says, how is Laugher pronounced law? He can pronounce his

:32:36.:32:40.

name however he likes if he is going to win medals! Keep those coming in.

:32:41.:32:45.

On BBC Four, we do like the hashtag and a bit of Copacabanter. We are

:32:46.:32:50.

going to get back to the diving as soon as we can to bring you Jack

:32:51.:32:54.

Laugher's medal ceremony. We will also get information from Leon

:32:55.:32:57.

Taylor, who is making his way down beside Helen Skelton. And hopefully,

:32:58.:33:02.

his diving partner Chris Mears will also join us. What have we got

:33:03.:33:10.

behind us? Antony Worrall Thompson has turned up, fans of BBC Four.

:33:11.:33:15.

Normally at this time of the night, he is here. He has joined the

:33:16.:33:20.

circuit training. Some people think it is definitely not him. I think we

:33:21.:33:24.

need to get the real Worrall Thompson, if it is not him, to prove

:33:25.:33:29.

that he is not in Rio. As soon as we get back to the diving, we will

:33:30.:33:35.

bring you that. We are not just filling with a bit of Antony Worrall

:33:36.:33:39.

Thompson! But I know how important the years to so many of our BBC Four

:33:40.:33:45.

viewers. -- how important he is. Over the next few hours, we have

:33:46.:33:51.

some boxing from Team GB, with two boxers going for medals. That is to

:33:52.:33:55.

come later. They were fighting during the diving. We will show you

:33:56.:34:00.

both their fights. We saw Joe Joyce a few days ago on BBC Four, being

:34:01.:34:04.

brilliant. The other sport we need to tidy up for you is the beach

:34:05.:34:08.

volleyball. Earlier, we saw Brazil's top seeds, the women, losing in

:34:09.:34:13.

their semifinal. So they miss out on a chance for a gold or silver medal,

:34:14.:34:23.

but we will show you the last few points in the deciding set of

:34:24.:34:26.

Brazil's men, the top seeds taking on the Dutch. We left it at 1-1, the

:34:27.:34:29.

Brazilians leading 7-6 in the deciding set. At some stage, we will

:34:30.:34:32.

pick that up in that deciding set. As promised, let's get back to the

:34:33.:34:36.

diving. All we know for sure is that Jack Laugher has his second medal of

:34:37.:34:40.

the games, a silver in the individual three metre springboard

:34:41.:34:44.

to after the gold he won with Chris Mears in the Synchro. We can go

:34:45.:34:48.

poolside and join Helen Skelton, who I think is alongside a very happy

:34:49.:34:56.

Leon Taylor! Smiles everywhere. Leon Taylor is always chatting away. He

:34:57.:35:01.

is the most charming man in diving, although it was a charming

:35:02.:35:04.

performance from you, Oliver Dingley. How was it? It was amazing.

:35:05.:35:12.

My first Olympic final. I did it with Jack Laugher, who is from

:35:13.:35:15.

Harrogate. It was like a family effort. And to be part of that in an

:35:16.:35:22.

Olympic final, I had to do three consistent rounds. People were

:35:23.:35:25.

dropping all over the place yesterday. The wind is really picked

:35:26.:35:29.

up. Today as well, people were dropping. I stayed steady and got

:35:30.:35:35.

through to the final. Fair play to your mental strength, because a lot

:35:36.:35:39.

has been going on. Thank you. The Olympic champion, New Labour, I was

:35:40.:35:46.

following him in the prelim. The world champion got knocked out as

:35:47.:35:49.

well -- the Olympic champion, Zakharov. I have personally had the

:35:50.:35:56.

time of my life. It is so scary standing on the diving board, but I

:35:57.:36:00.

have had the time of my life. You only just managed to represent

:36:01.:36:05.

Ireland, because you wanted to come to the Olympics, so you went for

:36:06.:36:10.

Ireland three your grandparents? Through my grandmother, and I am

:36:11.:36:13.

proud to represent Ireland. They have invested a lot in me. Back in

:36:14.:36:18.

Dublin, there is a whole host of people who have supported me to get

:36:19.:36:23.

here. You know what it is like. I am the lucky one who gets to stand on

:36:24.:36:27.

the diving board. I am proud to be part of the Harrogate community as

:36:28.:36:32.

well. I have been lucky to represent them and I hope I have done everyone

:36:33.:36:38.

proud. Ollie Dingley, after that performance, everyone would say you

:36:39.:36:46.

have. Congratulations. What a young man, very impressive. Yeah. Diving

:36:47.:36:51.

is all about consistency. I have been going on about it all day and

:36:52.:36:55.

saying Jack has not got it together, whereas Ollie has been solid, died

:36:56.:37:00.

after died. Jack got it together when he needed to. He displayed the

:37:01.:37:06.

consistency this evening. Ollie and Jack have come into this with

:37:07.:37:10.

different expectations. Jack came into the Olympics a marked man

:37:11.:37:14.

because of what he has done in the two years leading up to this. But

:37:15.:37:17.

with the gold medal the other day, you said off-camera, he is either

:37:18.:37:21.

going to be buzzing from this, or it is going to distract him. How

:37:22.:37:24.

nervous were you after the prelims and semis? I would rather see him

:37:25.:37:33.

wobble in the prelims. Who cares? The fact that he got in, only just

:37:34.:37:39.

by the skin of his teeth, I might add, but he won a silver medal,

:37:40.:37:44.

slugging it out with Chao Yuan, who out died him in the end. But if

:37:45.:37:49.

you're going to get it together, do it in the Olympic final. This will

:37:50.:37:55.

give Jack confidence going forward. Obviously, two medals are good for

:37:56.:38:00.

your confidence, but he managed to claw it back. I will be interested

:38:01.:38:05.

to hear what his journey was like. We are just guessing from where we

:38:06.:38:10.

are in the commentary box. But he did get over his heebie-jeebies and

:38:11.:38:14.

settled in nicely. I am so proud. That is three medals for British

:38:15.:38:19.

diving. Gymnastics and diving, we are right up there. It has been

:38:20.:38:24.

unbelievable. Do you think success breeds success? Will it have

:38:25.:38:30.

knock-on effects? Of course, it builds momentum. You are thrilled

:38:31.:38:34.

for your team-mates when they do well. The swimmers have had seven

:38:35.:38:38.

quarters places, bless them. In diving, we have managed to get to

:38:39.:38:44.

the medals. -- the swimmers got seven fourth places. In diving, we

:38:45.:38:50.

are not done yet. But let's celebrate Jack's performance

:38:51.:38:54.

tonight. He has been ace. Let's turn our attention to the medal ceremony,

:38:55.:38:59.

because Jack Laugher is going to be up there again for Great Britain.

:39:00.:39:06.

What a moment, and what a recovery by Jack Laugher. We didn't give him

:39:07.:39:11.

a prayer of getting through at one stage in the semifinal, and he

:39:12.:39:15.

qualified by 2.1 points. Those are the margins in diving. 2.1 the other

:39:16.:39:21.

away, and we would not be talking about this. Jack Laugher follows Cao

:39:22.:39:25.

Yuan and Patrick Hausding. Jack Laugher, with a thumbs up and a

:39:26.:39:40.

completely different facial expression to the one I saw from him

:39:41.:39:46.

eight hours ago. We talked up the semifinals and he said it was the

:39:47.:39:49.

worst diving he had done in four years. Well, in six hours, he was

:39:50.:39:56.

able to turn that totally on its head. The worst diving in four years

:39:57.:40:02.

to some of his best diving for four years. 2012 was not a great time for

:40:03.:40:09.

him in London. 2016 in Rio is the reverse. Didn't quite put pressure

:40:10.:40:17.

on the Chinese, a big margin in the end of 24 points. But Jack Laugher

:40:18.:40:25.

beat Patrick Hausding into third place by nearly 25 points. There

:40:26.:40:36.

were 24 between one and two, and 25 between two and three, so the margin

:40:37.:40:46.

was big. That is a selection of people who have done a lot for the

:40:47.:40:50.

sport of diving. We are delighted to see Patrick Hausding up there,

:40:51.:40:54.

because he has been the nearly man, fourth place in London four years

:40:55.:40:58.

ago. But he has gone a step better for Germany this time. He will step

:40:59.:41:07.

onto the podium to collect a hard earned bronze medal. What a superb

:41:08.:41:13.

fifth round dive that was from the German, nearly hitting the hundred

:41:14.:41:20.

mark, the highest score of any diver we got. He was just shy of 500,

:41:21.:41:36.

beating Evgeny Kuznetsov into fourth place. Big margins between all of

:41:37.:41:45.

the first four. A few days ago, he and Chris Mears were climbing aboard

:41:46.:41:52.

the highest run for the gold in the three metre synchro. He has come

:41:53.:41:56.

down a peg, but nonetheless, that is a terrific performance by Jack

:41:57.:42:04.

Laugher, a brilliant display. Then he put a foot wrong and was

:42:05.:42:10.

hypercritical. Grand four didn't go to plan. Lost a few points on that,

:42:11.:42:15.

but there were three scores of 90 and above. That is a big-time

:42:16.:42:24.

performer, ladies and gentlemen, someone who can step it up when he

:42:25.:42:29.

is not in the best of form, and he wasn't in the prelims and certainly

:42:30.:42:32.

wasn't in the semifinals. But when push came to shove, Jack Laugher did

:42:33.:42:40.

his best. On the day, he was just not able to beat the hottest of hot

:42:41.:42:47.

divers, a man who literally didn't put a foot wrong all the way

:42:48.:42:51.

through. He had a wobble in the semi and a wobble in the prelim, but all

:42:52.:42:56.

the way through, his lowest mark of the night was 85, and that was his

:42:57.:43:03.

opening dive after that, he pretty much cascaded 90s across the board.

:43:04.:43:10.

Cao Yuan, no degree of argument required here, was the best on show

:43:11.:43:14.

in the three metre springboard final. But Jack Laugher picks up

:43:15.:43:22.

Great Britain's third medal. A gold, a silver and now I bronze. Jack

:43:23.:43:27.

Laugher with silver. Here comes the Chinese national anthem for Cao

:43:28.:43:28.

Yuan. Chris Mears, how was that, I know

:43:29.:44:29.

you and Jack like to do everything together. He was on his own tonight.

:44:30.:44:35.

It was nail biting, especially with his shaky prelim and semi-. But he

:44:36.:44:41.

entered the final in the first place, so he took the last place

:44:42.:44:45.

available. He's gone and got silver, like, it was really close throughout

:44:46.:44:48.

the competition with him and Cao Yuan, yeah, he went and sunkle

:44:49.:44:52.

silver. I guess for you two, the last few days have been very

:44:53.:44:56.

different. You became Britain's first diving Gold Medallists. You

:44:57.:45:02.

were able to celebrate. But he was thinking about this. Have you done

:45:03.:45:06.

separate things? No, there was an opportunity to have a celebration,

:45:07.:45:10.

but I decided to save that until Jack was finished competing. We are

:45:11.:45:13.

a team and I'm sharing a room with him. I didn't want to keep him up

:45:14.:45:18.

late. I came to his training sessions and sat by his side and

:45:19.:45:22.

tried to make him feel as comfortable as possible and he's got

:45:23.:45:26.

a result. He said he missed you after the prelims and semi-s. Said

:45:27.:45:29.

it was harder going up there by himself. Could you help him by being

:45:30.:45:34.

on the side lines? Well, I'd like to think I'm a comfort blanket in some

:45:35.:45:40.

ways, you know. He's my best bud. We're best mates. Supporting him was

:45:41.:45:45.

much as I could do. Talking of support, I've got to wave to mum and

:45:46.:45:50.

sister and PE teacher, no prizes for guessing who they're supporting,

:45:51.:45:53.

red, white and blue from head to toe. Very proud family and rightly

:45:54.:45:58.

so. Seems like you guys are all a close gang. Yeah, we knew from day

:45:59.:46:06.

one going into Rio that Jack was a contender for medals, individually.

:46:07.:46:10.

He's just proved today that a lot of hard work and determination has gone

:46:11.:46:13.

into this. He's come out with a result. He's so good and done so

:46:14.:46:18.

much off the circuit. Some people go, he wasn't on the radar before

:46:19.:46:22.

this, that's only people who watch Olympic diving. He's done a heck of

:46:23.:46:27.

a lot. How is his confidence? How was his head coming into this? He's

:46:28.:46:31.

got the result, what can you say. He was nervous. I was nervous going

:46:32.:46:36.

into the synchro. Us winning that medal, getting gold, really took the

:46:37.:46:40.

pressure off his individual. Because he'd already got an amazing result

:46:41.:46:45.

out of that. Even though he had a shaky prelim and semi, that was due

:46:46.:46:48.

to weather conditions and stuff like that. He was nervous in the semi.

:46:49.:46:52.

But he got in. He let loose in the final. That's what happens when you

:46:53.:46:57.

let your confidence drive you. He certainly looked like a high

:46:58.:47:00.

pressury bunny compared to the semis. I did say, if he gets 12

:47:01.:47:05.

dives under his belt, then that's when I stopped getting nervous. We

:47:06.:47:11.

saw from the Olympic champion and world champion weren't in the final.

:47:12.:47:14.

The most important thing is safe carriage through. Once in the final,

:47:15.:47:18.

can you win it. You can't win it from the prelim or semifinal.

:47:19.:47:22.

Pacheco you know, he was rocking in the prelims, he's rocking in the

:47:23.:47:26.

semi and two poor dives to open the final. He was nowhere. That's what

:47:27.:47:32.

happens. You've got to do it in the final but you've got to get to the

:47:33.:47:36.

final. Right, he's had 12 dives now, settle in, do it from number one,

:47:37.:47:41.

start number one, and he delivered. You kept saying, he's turned up for

:47:42.:47:46.

this. Even his body language looked different tonight. Yeah, it did. I'm

:47:47.:47:50.

in the a body language expert, though I can sense when things are

:47:51.:47:54.

going to go the right way. Opening dive, right on the end, up, up and

:47:55.:47:59.

away, drilled his entry and he stayed with it. He didn't try too

:48:00.:48:02.

hard. Got the level of excitement right. Didn't get overwhelmed. In

:48:03.:48:06.

this place it's difficult not to get overwhelmed. Can you feel the

:48:07.:48:10.

adrenaline, just breathing, keeping steady. He's coming now. Let's grab

:48:11.:48:15.

him. What is he listening to on the massive head phones? I think he's a

:48:16.:48:21.

big Drake listener. That gives him, makes him feel like liberated and

:48:22.:48:25.

makes him feel like a baller that he's going to rock it up there.

:48:26.:48:30.

Well, he did. Fair play to him. He can justify that now. Toer sure. Is

:48:31.:48:35.

Jack Laugher ever going to make his way to us. He's not been able to

:48:36.:48:41.

enjoy the celebrations, this is his time. Come on Jack. He's got himself

:48:42.:48:48.

a Union flag. Mum, sister and PE teacher looking on proudly, as are

:48:49.:48:54.

you three. What happens next then? Well, I guess... A party. Basking in

:48:55.:49:00.

the glory of, obviously I haven't celebrated my vinette with Jack. I'd

:49:01.:49:03.

like to do that very much and with the coaches and everyone that's

:49:04.:49:07.

helped me get that and Jack. Obviously, Jack celebrating this as

:49:08.:49:13.

well. Then back to the drawing board with seeing what we're doing for the

:49:14.:49:18.

next couple of years. What about Ade your coach. He looked excited. This

:49:19.:49:26.

seems to be his only celebration. Ouch. Ade has been amazing

:49:27.:49:32.

throughout the prep going into this. He's been really on it. In my

:49:33.:49:39.

competition he coaches me and Edwin coaches Jack, the amazing

:49:40.:49:44.

performance coach from Leeds. Yeah, you could see it in his eyes. He was

:49:45.:49:49.

in the zone. He knew what to say to Jack to get him if the right place

:49:50.:49:53.

for that final. Fair play to him. There it's a high pressure yay camp

:49:54.:49:58.

in Leeds. Yeah, it's -- happy camp in Leeds. Yeah, we were saying that

:49:59.:50:03.

between our lads in the apartment we have every colour of medal, from Tom

:50:04.:50:07.

and Dan with their bronze and then Jack's silver today and me and Jack

:50:08.:50:11.

getting gold. We have every colour, pretty cool. So much so celebrate in

:50:12.:50:15.

British diving. Best performance ever. Think about the guys who so

:50:16.:50:20.

nearly made it, Freddie. I know. Look, Grace as well. First finalists

:50:21.:50:26.

since 1972. Tonia and Sarah tomorrow and Tom to go. There's more diving

:50:27.:50:31.

enjoy. We're not done yet. There's still performances to come from Team

:50:32.:50:39.

GB. Let's claim Iona as well. He's a pleasure to work with. His head is

:50:40.:50:43.

totally in the right place. Can you see when he's up there, he's

:50:44.:50:50.

confident. All of his dives 8. 5, 9 even, he proved that in February in

:50:51.:50:55.

Rio where he got a medal at words, an amazing feat that no-one can take

:50:56.:50:59.

away. He dropped a few dives in the semi, but if he hits them, next time

:51:00.:51:03.

round he's in the final. Brilliant to see you guys cheering Team GB in

:51:04.:51:10.

these colours and he jumps up in his yellow T-shirt, why is the Jamaican

:51:11.:51:15.

diver cheering for Jack, but it is because he's from Leeds. Right Jack,

:51:16.:51:19.

where are you. Do you miss him? Yeah, I miss him today. I haven't

:51:20.:51:24.

seen him very much. I saw him after the semi and actually, he was a lot

:51:25.:51:27.

better than I thought he was going to be. I thought he was going to be

:51:28.:51:32.

throwing a tantrum. Does he do that? He does it sometimes. Only when he's

:51:33.:51:37.

really frustrated at something. He came in and you know, we kind of

:51:38.:51:41.

patted him on the back. You know what, I'm going to go for a snooze

:51:42.:51:45.

and come back refreshed. He came back in a completely different mind

:51:46.:51:48.

set. He came down to the pool, turned up to this event. That's

:51:49.:51:54.

pretty good. Here he is. Yeah boy! So proud of you, man.

:51:55.:51:59.

Jack, congratulations. What a week. A Gold Medal and a Silver Medal. How

:52:00.:52:04.

has your Olympic experience been? Mixed. Gold with Chris was

:52:05.:52:08.

fantastic. We knew we could do it and we did. It was brilliant. As

:52:09.:52:15.

everyone knows my prelim was nervy, whatever. Then semifinal today was

:52:16.:52:20.

even worse. My personal worse for four years actually. It was hard for

:52:21.:52:24.

me to turn it around. Come away with a Silver Medal and did a really good

:52:25.:52:28.

performance, so pleased. Fair to say, this time last night you

:52:29.:52:32.

weren't a happy bunny. You have put in a stellar performance. What did

:52:33.:52:37.

you do to change your mind set? It was about the nerves of qualifying

:52:38.:52:40.

really. Once I was in the final, it was just about me. I've got nothing

:52:41.:52:45.

to lose then. Dive by dive, go in, sticking to the routine. I end up

:52:46.:52:52.

with a fantastic score. In the qualifying rounds, there's so many

:52:53.:52:56.

nerves. The weather was awful. I've come away just, you know,

:52:57.:53:00.

overwhelmed in entirely. Thank you. Huge congratulations. You said

:53:01.:53:03.

yesterday, I don't like going up there by myself. I miss Chris. It's

:53:04.:53:07.

a completely different ball game. How useful was it having him on the

:53:08.:53:12.

side lines? Very useful. He's my biggest supporter. As a team it's

:53:13.:53:17.

easy because I have someone to talk to, laugh with. It makes it simple

:53:18.:53:22.

to get distracted from the competition so you don't focus

:53:23.:53:25.

entirely on what it is. Individually it's very hard. To have him on the

:53:26.:53:28.

side lines, cheering with the team and my family is fantastic. Chris is

:53:29.:53:36.

your biggest supporter, but the head of the Jack Laugher fan club, your

:53:37.:53:41.

mum and PE teacher are having a whale of a time. Freddie dad's

:53:42.:53:48.

there. Loads of people. She loves me. I guess that's good. What about

:53:49.:53:53.

poor dad. He's at home. Yeah, he looked after the dog. We have a

:53:54.:53:57.

two-year-old dog. Dad makes me nervous when I compete. I make him

:53:58.:54:02.

nervous as well. I don't think he would have been able to deal with

:54:03.:54:06.

the semifinal from earlier. For me, it was the right decision for him to

:54:07.:54:11.

stay at home. He's been holding the fort, doing interviews. He's been

:54:12.:54:16.

stupid, feeding treats to the dog on BBC, very funny. I love him very

:54:17.:54:22.

much. But good that he wasn't here. You may have pulled out your hair by

:54:23.:54:27.

now, but it was worth it. I found that funny. I no ethat he's back

:54:28.:54:35.

home cheering. We're all so proud of you. Everybody associated with

:54:36.:54:40.

British diving is proud of you. You did it the hard way. You left us all

:54:41.:54:44.

thinking, will he, won't he. I said from the beginning, if he gets six

:54:45.:54:49.

dives in prelims, makes it through. Six dives in the semifinal and in

:54:50.:54:53.

the final, you can win it. You're on the podium. A long overdue party for

:54:54.:54:57.

the pair of you, but you've got team-mates still diving. Maybe do it

:54:58.:55:01.

out of the village. Yeah, of course. We're celebrating. It's been a

:55:02.:55:06.

really long season so far. A fantastic performance to finish off

:55:07.:55:12.

my season. I'm really pleased. Go on, hug it out. Jack Laugher

:55:13.:55:16.

congratulations. A gold and a silver. Well done. Thank you.

:55:17.:55:22.

STUDIO: Brilliant stuff. Well done for Helen there for holding for 15

:55:23.:55:26.

minutes while we were waiting for Jack Laugher to turn up. He was

:55:27.:55:30.

enjoying hillself, doing the rounds. He was celebrating, showing his

:55:31.:55:34.

medal off to people, waving to his family and grabbing a Union flag as

:55:35.:55:39.

well. What an achievement. He is now as so many people are saying, silver

:55:40.:55:43.

in the diving, congratulations Jack Laugher. Britain's most successful

:55:44.:55:47.

diver. Far and away Great Britain's most successful diver says Alex.

:55:48.:55:51.

Jack Laugher is quality, a gold followed by individual silver. So

:55:52.:55:55.

many people enjoying it. Get in there ises Charlotte. Jack Laugher,

:55:56.:55:59.

don't care how you pronounce your name, you're brilliant. Sarah Louise

:56:00.:56:06.

says, I had to go to bed, I am waking up to tweet. I will watch in

:56:07.:56:11.

the morning. But I know what the result is. That is Team GB's 50th

:56:12.:56:15.

medal of the Games, which is staggering. We were saying earlier

:56:16.:56:19.

at this point in Beijing, they had won 34 medals. They're 16 ahead of

:56:20.:56:24.

where they were at this point in Beijing and ahead of where they were

:56:25.:56:27.

in London four years ago. The thing I love about BBC Four, you're

:56:28.:56:31.

excited about the cycling tonight, yes, you're excited about what's

:56:32.:56:35.

happening in the diving tonight, but you're very excited about Anthony

:56:36.:56:41.

wore Thompson being back on the beach -- Worral Thompson being back

:56:42.:56:45.

on the beach. There he is. He trains virtually every single night.

:56:46.:56:48.

There's only one night that he hasn't been doing the business.

:56:49.:56:52.

First week, he was green muscle vest. This week, he's gone for the

:56:53.:56:57.

grey marl as someone described yesterday. Full sleeved number as

:56:58.:57:06.

well. He's really, there, he's off! Talking bins later as well. I know

:57:07.:57:09.

you eneye that. Lots of people saying where's the bins tonight. We

:57:10.:57:16.

were talking about the fact that we do our copacabinmen. About midnight

:57:17.:57:19.

your time, they normally collect the bins. They were early this evening.

:57:20.:57:23.

We'll show you that footage as we continue to watch a man would looks

:57:24.:57:28.

like Anthony Woral Thompson on the beach. This is the sort of quality

:57:29.:57:34.

that we can bring you on BBC Four; a slightly out of shape man running

:57:35.:57:38.

backwards on Copacabana beach. There you go.

:57:39.:57:43.

From the Silver Medal to that. So, thank you for all those texts and

:57:44.:57:48.

tweets. Brilliant ones on the binman and also, the other thing I forgot

:57:49.:57:53.

to mention is that loads of people apparently the last time we were in

:57:54.:57:56.

vision, we were showing you the circuit training in background, did

:57:57.:58:00.

someone have a wee in the background in the sea on BBC Four. Honestly,

:58:01.:58:06.

I've had about 50 tweets from people saying, "Is it true someone is

:58:07.:58:10.

having a wee in the sea? If that's the case - we need to get to the

:58:11.:58:14.

bottom of this. We can't have that! We shall show you proper sport

:58:15.:58:19.

shortly, not that beach volleyball is not proper sport. I'm talking

:58:20.:58:25.

about Anthony. We have Joe Joyce in action as well. We were showing you

:58:26.:58:29.

beach volleyball earlier. We left it in the deciding set. The top seeds

:58:30.:58:36.

Brazil of Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt were taking on the Dutch, a

:58:37.:58:40.

formidable partnership themselves. The winner goes into the Gold Medal

:58:41.:58:43.

match. We join it in the deciding set once again. Brazilians are

:58:44.:58:46.

leading 7-6. COMMENTATOR: Think that's just

:58:47.:59:29.

messed. -- missed.

:59:30.:59:44.

I believe that was the ball he was looking for... The previous time.

:59:45.:59:55.

Yeah about two playing ago, when Alison threw it back. He was wanting

:59:56.:59:57.

to go high hand. He finally got it. Wow. Just apologising for coming to

:59:58.:00:26.

the net. I do not know how he ended up on his stomach after an attack.

:00:27.:00:35.

Ah, just trying to avoid... The net. He hammered that ball.

:00:36.:00:48.

Oh, lack of communication between Brouwer and

:00:49.:01:09.

Meeuwsen. But the Netherlands have been here before. They have.

:01:10.:01:30.

So important that one play doesn't directly affect another and you

:01:31.:01:37.

don't let that frustration carry-over. Let it remain in the

:01:38.:01:44.

past, and play in the present. He has missed it. That is the

:01:45.:01:49.

difficulty of going down the line when you are so tight up against the

:01:50.:01:57.

antenna. So tight, and now it is Brazil's turn to use their time-out.

:01:58.:02:20.

It poured on to manage percentages right now. You don't want to get

:02:21.:02:44.

overly excited to put a ball to the sand. When you do see a chance to

:02:45.:02:50.

score, do not try to do too much. Is that last point played out, Alison

:02:51.:02:58.

Karadzic long. -- Alison Karadzic long.

:02:59.:03:06.

There is a bit of anxiety in the crowd as well. The Dutch have never

:03:07.:03:19.

won medal in the men's inner beach volleyball competition. If they win

:03:20.:03:23.

this one, they were guaranteed themselves at least silver. They are

:03:24.:03:32.

looking for their first gold medal since the games in Athens in 2004.

:03:33.:03:46.

And we are all square at 11-11. That was an intense hamstring stretch by

:03:47.:04:03.

Alison in that past. He tried to get it down in time.

:04:04.:04:16.

Oh, well done, Bruno. Unbelievable! What a rally! New Labour puts it

:04:17.:04:36.

away. And it is the Dutch who are celebrating in the stands --

:04:37.:04:44.

Meeuwsen puts it away. What is so fascinating is that they have

:04:45.:04:47.

finally organised their coverage system. They finally had that

:04:48.:04:51.

communication where it was clean. Brouwer was there.

:04:52.:05:02.

Anything can happen, since Meeuwsen is in rhythm upfront.

:05:03.:05:33.

They are under all sorts of pressure. What a time to come up

:05:34.:05:40.

with a service fault. It was almost like an indecision server. You are

:05:41.:05:45.

exactly right, and a mind that is undecided is the most dangerous want

:05:46.:05:50.

to play in. Make a choice, trust it and go with it. Hasn't missed by

:05:51.:05:59.

much. Brouwer was never going to pull out of that one. Like you say,

:06:00.:06:09.

you can afford him the service fault. It's in, and it's match point

:06:10.:06:23.

number 54 Alison and Bruno. You don't want to get into a slugfest

:06:24.:06:30.

here. Because both these blockers are dialled in. What a play. Again,

:06:31.:06:43.

they go after Brouwer and then send it on Meeuwsen. Meeuwsen has scored

:06:44.:06:46.

every time they have done that switch. Whenever they have changed

:06:47.:06:59.

it, they have always lost the point. Meeuwsen sent it long. Another thing

:07:00.:07:08.

that is important is to not feel rushed. You can feel the energy of

:07:09.:07:12.

the 12,000 in-house, you can feel the energy stirring inside you.

:07:13.:07:19.

Match point number six. Advantage, Brazil. This to win it un-they have

:07:20.:07:27.

done it! They got the touch off the block, and it is Brazil that go

:07:28.:07:35.

through by 16-14, the sixth time of asking. They were under all sorts of

:07:36.:07:42.

pressure. Alison lets the emotion come out. What a match. You feel for

:07:43.:07:49.

Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen. So close, yet so far. An

:07:50.:07:58.

epic semifinal in the men's beach volleyball event here in Rio 2016.

:07:59.:08:01.

Brazil are through. DAN WALKER: there you go, it has

:08:02.:08:15.

been one of those days for Brazil when not much has gone right, but a

:08:16.:08:19.

brilliant finish in the beach volleyball. The women lost the

:08:20.:08:26.

football to Sweden earlier in a penalty shoot out. We also showed

:08:27.:08:30.

you that top seeds in the beach volleyball, also going out at the

:08:31.:08:33.

semifinal stage, but the men are into the final. Chance of a gold

:08:34.:08:37.

medal for the home favourites. We will talk more about a potential

:08:38.:08:41.

other gold medal for them in the boxing ring later. But we have been

:08:42.:08:45.

sat here for long enough, so let's go for a wander and find out what is

:08:46.:08:48.

happening in the Atlantic tonight. Come with us on to Copacabana Beach.

:08:49.:08:56.

All this rubbish about Whitley Bay and Copacabognor, this is one of the

:08:57.:08:59.

most famous speeches in the world, Copacabana Beach. If this is the

:09:00.:09:03.

first time you have been watching BBC Four, the beach-goers half a

:09:04.:09:06.

kilometre that way and three and a half kilometres the other way so it

:09:07.:09:09.

is four kilometres of beach in total. That is because for every

:09:10.:09:16.

kilometre, there is a beach marker. If you look down there, you can see

:09:17.:09:20.

that big number five. That is the five kilometre marker. Then it

:09:21.:09:27.

stretches along to Ipanema beach, but this is Copacabana Beach, and

:09:28.:09:30.

write down the far end is the Beach Volleyball Arena. Normally during

:09:31.:09:33.

the day, you can see Sugarloaf Mountain as well. Be careful, don't

:09:34.:09:44.

fall, anyone! Are you all right down there, Kath? She is one of the

:09:45.:09:47.

finest camera women in the business. There is more beach volleyball going

:09:48.:09:53.

on later. That is at 3am on the Red Button. You don't get this in Bognor

:09:54.:10:01.

and is, do you? Well, you do! But you don't get the Atlantic in

:10:02.:10:07.

Bognor. Now we will take you for an update in the sailing. We have

:10:08.:10:10.

spoken about Jack Laugher and the fact that we are now on 50 medals as

:10:11.:10:15.

Team GB. And just the other side of Sugarloaf Mountain is the Lake

:10:16.:10:20.

Marina da Gloria, where all the sailing has taken place. Two of

:10:21.:10:24.

those 50 medals arrived there today, both gold. To bring us up-to-date

:10:25.:10:27.

with what happened is Shirley Robertson.

:10:28.:10:36.

After the drama of yesterday's storms, there are now four medal

:10:37.:10:40.

races scheduled here at discerning value, and it promises to be a

:10:41.:10:45.

golden day for Team GB. Giles Scott did enough to secure his gold medal

:10:46.:10:50.

two days ago out on the oceans of Copacabana. It was an emotional

:10:51.:11:00.

moment he shared with his coach. The start for the men's heavyweight gets

:11:01.:11:04.

under way. Today was the celebration of that moment in front of the

:11:05.:11:10.

crowds on the shores of the Guanabara Bay. Scott showed what has

:11:11.:11:13.

made him great, competing and finishing the medal race. Giles

:11:14.:11:23.

Scott of Great Britain Cumu four time world champion. It has been a

:11:24.:11:28.

long road, an agonising wait, but now the 29-year-old world number one

:11:29.:11:33.

is confirmed as the gold medal winner in Rio 2016. It is

:11:34.:11:43.

incredible. So happy with the way I sailed this week. That and the

:11:44.:11:46.

campaign that my coat and I put together over the past three years,

:11:47.:11:51.

everything has been geared towards this moment -- my coach and I, to be

:11:52.:11:56.

successful and put to rest all the crucial decisions we made early is

:11:57.:12:06.

fantastic. Job done for Scott. The chance to do the same for Hannah

:12:07.:12:10.

Mills and Saskia Clark in the 470 double handed women's dinghy. Mills

:12:11.:12:14.

and Clark had three races to sail, and if they could extend their lead

:12:15.:12:18.

to 20 points, they could secure gold ahead of their medal race tomorrow.

:12:19.:12:25.

20 points needed, 20 points the difference when they crossed the

:12:26.:12:28.

finish line of their last race of the day in third place. It took a

:12:29.:12:32.

quick check with their coach on the maths, and then celebration. Richest

:12:33.:12:37.

gold number two in the sailing. Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark, 2016

:12:38.:12:42.

gold medallists. I haven't stopped smiling. I know you are the best of

:12:43.:12:53.

friends. It has been five years in the making. To share this moment

:12:54.:12:57.

before you head are together, what is it like? It has been amazing. We

:12:58.:13:05.

have had a hard five years. I have had two bits of surgery, and Hannah

:13:06.:13:10.

waited for me. She has been an amazing best friend and team-mate. A

:13:11.:13:19.

great couple. Congratulations! In other news, Alison Young won the

:13:20.:13:25.

laser medal race to end up in eighth place, and disappointed. Nick

:13:26.:13:28.

Thompson couldn't improve on his sixth place in the laser medal race

:13:29.:13:31.

and the young British multi-wholesalers rounded up an

:13:32.:13:36.

Olympics that began in great style back in ninth place. Tomorrow, it's

:13:37.:13:42.

ladies day. A gold medal final for Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark, when

:13:43.:13:45.

they race in front of the beach before stepping onto the top step of

:13:46.:13:51.

the Olympic podium. Brilliant stuff from Britain's

:13:52.:13:53.

sailors today' gold medals. Now, for those of you who have

:13:54.:14:02.

enjoyed the magic of Maria over the last few days, the wonderful lady

:14:03.:14:05.

who strolled past us on Copacabana Beach for her hen do, guess who has

:14:06.:14:11.

turned up? It is Maria's mum, everybody! Lovely to see you. Thank

:14:12.:14:17.

you so much for popping down. And you have come to say what? I came to

:14:18.:14:23.

say hello for everybody and to invite you personally to the

:14:24.:14:31.

wedding. I am only in Brazil for two weeks. It has been wonderful to meet

:14:32.:14:35.

your daughter, but I am not sure my wife would allow me to come back to

:14:36.:14:39.

Brazil for one day. Tell us what the last few days have been like for

:14:40.:14:44.

Maria? We heard today that the video has been watched ?15.5 million

:14:45.:14:49.

around the world. It is a big success, no? I can't imagine that

:14:50.:14:54.

would happen and I can't imagine I am here now talking to everybody.

:14:55.:15:03.

But Maria is so happy. The most important thing is that Maria really

:15:04.:15:11.

believes in love. And her fiance, I say that right? He is a very special

:15:12.:15:25.

man and I am very happy at this moment. Thank you, everybody for the

:15:26.:15:36.

messages. It has been amazing. When comblar left here, she didn't

:15:37.:15:47.

know much about BBC Four, but she left and it took off. What was she

:15:48.:15:51.

like the next day, what was it like as a family the next day?

:15:52.:15:55.

Westminster, she didn't sleep. She's so excited. This is your daughter

:15:56.:16:00.

the other day. Yeah, she is, BBC, BBC! We know! As I say that Maria is

:16:01.:16:11.

beautiful, brilliant and charismatic. She's BBC girl. Was she

:16:12.:16:19.

all right the next day? She wasn't, we say in Britain, worse for wear,

:16:20.:16:25.

she'd been enjoying herself. Yeah, Joan Ayrad lot. Everybody -- Yeah

:16:26.:16:32.

enjoy a lot. Everybody wanted to take picture with marament and the

:16:33.:16:38.

Twitter is very, a lot of followers. She was on Facebook, because she was

:16:39.:16:42.

becoming so popular and people from America were trying to get in

:16:43.:16:45.

contact with her. I let her know that people wanted to know where she

:16:46.:16:51.

was. She joined Twitter. She has about 2,000 followers in about a few

:16:52.:16:55.

hours and now messages from all over the world. Yes. So I say thank you

:16:56.:17:00.

for everybody and congratulations for your job. I think it's the all

:17:01.:17:07.

people are very interested in this kind of things and Brazilian people

:17:08.:17:14.

are happy. And England people are welcome to our country. Ah, that's

:17:15.:17:18.

very nice. On behalf of everyone from Great Britain, it's been very

:17:19.:17:21.

nice to meet you and your daughter. Can I ask you about the Olympics.

:17:22.:17:26.

It's great to have you here. I didn't get a chance to speak to

:17:27.:17:31.

Maria about, it I'm not sure if she had been too aware of the Olympics,

:17:32.:17:36.

because she was talking of her undying love for her fiance. What

:17:37.:17:40.

have you made for the Olympics, two golds for Brazil. Potentially more

:17:41.:17:46.

to come. Has it been good for Brazil? The Olympics? Yes, it's very

:17:47.:17:56.

nice. The city is beautiful. I think that people are safe to come. A lot

:17:57.:18:03.

of - I think it's very nice and Brazil not very wow in the

:18:04.:18:09.

competition, but they won gold medals. Two or three. Two

:18:10.:18:14.

definitely. And possibly more today. Yeah, today in boxing. Don't give it

:18:15.:18:18.

away, we're going to show that. You're as bad as your daughter! I've

:18:19.:18:23.

got to ask you about the plans for the wedding. Maria told us she's

:18:24.:18:30.

getting married on the beach. Yes, it's a club in the posh set. My

:18:31.:18:38.

mother live here. And the last building. The wedding party is in

:18:39.:18:51.

the club. So just down here. She's marrying there. It's on September

:18:52.:18:56.

17, is that right? 17th September. Brilliant. I'd like to say I'll see

:18:57.:19:01.

you there, but I don't know. Thank you so much for the invitation. It's

:19:02.:19:06.

very, very nice. That's another beautiful invitation. Thank you so

:19:07.:19:11.

much. Thank you. That's great. Lovely to see you. Thank you so

:19:12.:19:15.

much. That's Maria's mum everybody. Can we give her a round of applause.

:19:16.:19:18.

APPLAUSE What other members of the family can

:19:19.:19:22.

you bring down? Yeah, tomorrow, tomorrow. Let's meet some more. The

:19:23.:19:27.

father come tomorrow. The dad. OK. Come on. We'll meet him tomorrow.

:19:28.:19:32.

Thank you very much. Bye-bye. Lovely to see you. Thank you. She may have

:19:33.:19:39.

given something away there. We were going to show you boxing from

:19:40.:19:42.

earlier on. One bullet-proof distil's finest, this is the men's

:19:43.:19:49.

lightweight final -- one of Brazil's finest. This is the men's

:19:50.:19:53.

lightweight final. Let's go to the boxing ring. Commentary from Richie

:19:54.:19:58.

Woodall and big Ron McIntosh. COMMENTATOR: We are under way. The

:19:59.:20:10.

60 kilogram lightweight Gold Medal bout being contested between boxers

:20:11.:20:16.

from France and Brazil. The man in red is 27 years of age,

:20:17.:20:22.

competing in his third Olympic Games here and inspired by the home

:20:23.:20:26.

support, he has booked his place in the Gold Medal contest with terrific

:20:27.:20:32.

performances. The man wearing blue has been razor sharp all tournament

:20:33.:20:37.

long. 21 years of age. Ranked six in the world. Fantastic atmosphere. Who

:20:38.:20:50.

will get their tactics right. Both boxers good long-range men.

:20:51.:20:55.

Conceicao looks to be on front foot. He's getting the crowd behind him.

:20:56.:20:58.

Everything he lands is being cheered. Make no mistake. This

:20:59.:21:08.

Frenchman is a class act as well. These two men were supposed to meet

:21:09.:21:11.

just before the Olympics at a tournament. It's Robson Conceicao

:21:12.:21:19.

who won. That's because it was a walkover as Oumiha was unable to

:21:20.:21:22.

take his place in the semifinal stage. The atmosphere here really is

:21:23.:21:32.

incredible. Conceicao used this atmosphere to produce a terrific

:21:33.:21:34.

semifinal win. Oumiha gets caught there. Makes a

:21:35.:21:50.

mistake with his landing shot and trying to get back to safety

:21:51.:21:54.

distance. But he's dropping his hands. Conceicao, for me, this jab

:21:55.:21:58.

of his has been brilliant this first round. Good timing, accurate. This

:21:59.:22:03.

is a good start from the before distilian. -- from the Brazilian.

:22:04.:22:12.

Look at this single jab. Good timing, measuring the distance.

:22:13.:22:18.

Conceicao picked up a cut in the semifinal win. Good movement from

:22:19.:22:22.

the waist to avoid those punches from Oumiha. We will have to keep a

:22:23.:22:27.

close eye on that injury to see if it holds up throughout this Gold

:22:28.:22:30.

Medal bout. He's boxing very well indeed, hitting without being hit in

:22:31.:22:34.

replay. The lay back making Oumiha miss. Quality in and out from both

:22:35.:22:39.

boxers. It's who can hit and make the opponent miss and then go back

:22:40.:22:44.

at him. Both are doing it well. Oumiha gets caught going out. For

:22:45.:22:47.

me, the Brazilian slightly better. Good movement on the retreat once

:22:48.:22:55.

again from Conceicao. An opening round full of thought and

:22:56.:23:10.

concentration between the two boxers in stark contrast to the party

:23:11.:23:12.

that's happening up in the stands here. Both decide to stand and not

:23:13.:23:21.

sit. Both are confident. This fellow for me had the better start there on

:23:22.:23:32.

that front foot. Tension in the air, but the crowd really playing their

:23:33.:23:37.

part here. Just making your opponent miss by inches and going back and

:23:38.:23:41.

scoring. That's what Conceicao did there. Will he get the scores.

:23:42.:23:54.

Into the second round we go. The man wearing red, Robson Conceicao, the

:23:55.:24:13.

fifth ranked boxer in the world, tournament number four seed, swept

:24:14.:24:17.

the opening round across the board. He's begun the second round working

:24:18.:24:22.

wonderfully behind that educated left hand. That's good tactics from

:24:23.:24:26.

Conceicao here. He's not giving ground. He's in and out, very sharp.

:24:27.:24:35.

He started quickly. Again, Oumiha trying to land that left hook. It's

:24:36.:24:40.

just not getting home. That right hand of his, the accuracy is not

:24:41.:24:47.

there compared to his opponent. Conceicao working better with the

:24:48.:24:53.

jab and better with the right hand. Oumiha had a terrific run through to

:24:54.:24:56.

the semifinal stage. He produced a fantastic display

:24:57.:25:18.

against the tournament number three seed to book his place here in this

:25:19.:25:24.

Gold Medal bout. He's coping with the occasion well, Oumiha, but

:25:25.:25:27.

struggling to find the range consistently for his shots.

:25:28.:25:33.

Conceicao appearing unnaturally calm up there in the ring hoping himself

:25:34.:25:38.

to a good one, two. These quality performers here. In this

:25:39.:25:42.

cat-and-mouse boxing - look at Conceicao, he's on the ball, 100%

:25:43.:25:46.

concentration. He's beating Oumiha to the punch. Doesn't matter about

:25:47.:25:52.

the atmosphere. The concentration levels are very high from the man in

:25:53.:25:57.

red. Oumiha is definitely in it. Yes, there's not a lot in it from

:25:58.:26:01.

this contest. Better qualities coming from the boxing ring

:26:02.:26:10.

Brazilian. Oumiha with a glance to his corner.

:26:11.:26:22.

Look at that left hand from Conceicao. And a left jab causes

:26:23.:26:28.

Oumiha to touchdown. Referee ruled it a slip. But for my money, the

:26:29.:26:35.

most fundament Alf of all boxing punches got through -- fundamental

:26:36.:26:40.

of all boxing punches got through. A dominant display by the Brazilian.

:26:41.:26:44.

Lovely punch picking, straight punches, basic work from the

:26:45.:26:47.

Brazilian. It's working very effectively for him.

:26:48.:27:06.

Concentration absolute throughout. These men know that their boxer is

:27:07.:27:13.

surely just three minutes away in terms of action in the ring from

:27:14.:27:16.

being crowned Olympic Gold Medallist at this, a home Olympics.

:27:17.:27:24.

Concentration is the name of the game in a contest like this. It's

:27:25.:27:29.

been demonstrated in abundance here by Conceicao. He's in and out with

:27:30.:27:36.

the work. Using the basic of all punches, the straight purchls,

:27:37.:27:39.

better, with the jab, straight right hand. Oumiha is having some success.

:27:40.:27:46.

It's not all one-way traffic. He's being beaten to the punch. Again,

:27:47.:27:49.

it's the judges that matter. Into the third and final round we

:27:50.:28:11.

go. The boxer wearing red Robson Conceicao of Brazil. A man who has

:28:12.:28:17.

been a poster boy not just for the boxing tournament but the entire

:28:18.:28:22.

Olympic Games. A two-point advantage from judges A, B and C in this

:28:23.:28:29.

incredible atmosphere here. His concentration has been absolute. A

:28:30.:28:35.

laser-like focus to repel the advances of Oumiha. He's having

:28:36.:28:39.

moments of success of his own, the reigning European Games Silver

:28:40.:28:43.

Medallist. Now the man in blue has a mountain to climb. He needs a 10-8

:28:44.:28:52.

round to get back to parity. Oumiha needs the round of his life here. He

:28:53.:28:58.

needs to cause a 10-8 round. It's all or nothing now from Oumiha. He

:28:59.:29:02.

will have to take risks to land that power shot. He'll have to be in that

:29:03.:29:09.

short to land that bent arm shot which could cause an upset here. By

:29:10.:29:14.

doing that, he's in a zone there and an area where he can get caught

:29:15.:29:18.

himself. He needs the punch of his life. He's got to go for broke,

:29:19.:29:24.

Oumiha. This man, who was a street vendor on

:29:25.:29:40.

the streets of Salvador as a child, calls himself a survivor. He said

:29:41.:29:49.

his personality, he euphemistically called himself quarrelsome. Robson

:29:50.:29:58.

Conceicao wanted to be just like an uncle. He used to neeck down to the

:29:59.:30:05.

gym, watch his uncle ply his trade. Used to fake injury and get

:30:06.:30:09.

treatment from the hospital, take the same bandages that the hospital

:30:10.:30:14.

would treat his fake injuries with and turned them into hand wraps.

:30:15.:30:18.

That's how much this young man from Brazil, who grew up poor in Brazil,

:30:19.:30:24.

wanted to be a boxer and now, at a home Olympics, he's on the cusp of

:30:25.:30:30.

being crowned Olympic champion, an historic title. Prior to this point

:30:31.:30:39.

no Brazilian has occupied top spet on the medal programme in the boxing

:30:40.:30:43.

ring. The hard work for Conceicao has been done in those two rounds.

:30:44.:30:46.

He's protecting the lead now. Conceicao has taken his foot off the

:30:47.:30:57.

gas. Watch this place erupted when this bell goes. The crowd are

:30:58.:31:08.

counting down the final seconds. And Robson Conceicao raises his arms and

:31:09.:31:12.

wanders wearily back to his red corner. The crowd know, and he knows

:31:13.:31:20.

that he is just about to be crowned Olympic gold medallist in this 60

:31:21.:31:30.

kilograms lightweight division. What an intelligent display to keep

:31:31.:31:34.

the talented Sofiane Oumiha out of punching range. The French know it

:31:35.:31:42.

is not going to be their night. But he played his part in a terrific

:31:43.:31:46.

contest. But Robson Conceicao would not be denied.

:31:47.:31:53.

His first two rounds where his best grounds. He concentrated very well.

:31:54.:31:59.

He started quickly, that was important. The speed was there. It

:32:00.:32:04.

is a rocky story that you explained, Ronald. Tremendous stuff from this

:32:05.:32:14.

young man. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision...

:32:15.:32:32.

Robson Conceicao! A cacophony of noise and the Carnival of colour

:32:33.:32:45.

have just erupted into celebration in acknowledgement of the fact that

:32:46.:32:49.

Robson Conceicao, the boy who grew up poor on the streets of Salvador,

:32:50.:32:57.

has just been crowned Olympic champion in the 60 kilograms

:32:58.:33:01.

lightweight division. He becomes Brazil's first-ever Olympic champion

:33:02.:33:05.

inside the boxing ring. He dealt with the pressure of expectation. He

:33:06.:33:10.

dealt with the reputation and the talents of all of the boxes in front

:33:11.:33:14.

of him, never more so than in the final, when he eliminated the

:33:15.:33:19.

talented Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha. And he is drinking in the applause

:33:20.:33:24.

from the crowd here in Riocentro Pavilion 6, who are in absolute

:33:25.:33:29.

rapture at what this man has accomplished. 27-year-old Robson

:33:30.:33:35.

Conceicao is the Olympic champion of the 60 kilograms lightweight

:33:36.:33:38.

division. Usually, it is the Brazilian footballers that I call

:33:39.:33:41.

the headlines in this neck of the woods. But now they have a new

:33:42.:33:48.

national hero, a boxer and Olympic champion of 60 kilograms. That is

:33:49.:33:54.

something special and this crowd, in years to come, will say, I was

:33:55.:33:59.

there. For the first time probably in this tournament, it is a full

:34:00.:34:04.

arena. Every Brazilian in this arena will feel very proud of that young

:34:05.:34:10.

man. He is now a national hero. People are crying all around us.

:34:11.:34:20.

DAN WALKER: amazing stuff, Brazil's third gold medal of the games.

:34:21.:34:25.

Robson Conceicao, like the pole vault last night in the athletics,

:34:26.:34:28.

did the business when it mattered. That was a short time ago in the

:34:29.:34:38.

Riocentro. I know Maria's mum gave it away, but I hope it didn't ruin

:34:39.:34:43.

it for you. Remember Raphael Silva in the judo about a week ago, and

:34:44.:34:47.

then the pole vault last night and then Robson Conceicao with another

:34:48.:34:51.

gold. I know loads of you want us to do the Copacabinmen. It is that time

:34:52.:34:55.

of night. We will do it. I know loads of you want to comment on

:34:56.:34:59.

Maria's mum. We will do that as well, but let's take you to some

:35:00.:35:04.

live weightlifting. These are the big boys, 14.5 stone. After this

:35:05.:35:11.

much, we had a world record from the Iranian. This is 216 kilos he is

:35:12.:35:21.

going for, his third attempt. A new world record. So he is leading after

:35:22.:35:33.

this match. This is his third attempt of the clean and jerk but.

:35:34.:35:42.

As we join it live, he is coming in now for his third attempt. He has to

:35:43.:35:47.

make this, so the pressure is on. We join our commentary team of Michaela

:35:48.:35:53.

breeze and Jon Harker. These are the big guys, 105 kilos.

:35:54.:36:04.

COMMENTATOR: He is still blowing hard after the previous that had.

:36:05.:36:10.

Two minutes is not long to recover. Last chance. Come on. Everybody in

:36:11.:36:13.

the arena wants to see this. My word! A world record half an hour

:36:14.:36:35.

ago, and he is going home medal less. A staggering fall from grace

:36:36.:36:46.

for the Olympic champion. He is not happy with the jury's decision. I

:36:47.:36:52.

believe the jury's decision was actually correct. They will agree

:36:53.:37:02.

once they have seen the replay that that was not the way he expect to go

:37:03.:37:06.

out of the competition, and it is not what we expected. Nonetheless,

:37:07.:37:10.

the competition is still on. It is all to play for now. We have got

:37:11.:37:25.

more confusion here. The Brazilian has been called off the stage. Let's

:37:26.:37:36.

recap with what we have just seen. At the moment, Talakhadze is in the

:37:37.:37:50.

lead. He still has two lifts to come. But he goes. The gold medal

:37:51.:38:06.

should be this man's, particularly if he can lift this. It would be a

:38:07.:38:12.

pretty unassailable lead if he succeeds with this seconds left in

:38:13.:38:20.

the clean and jerk. Some superb lifting. It is very disappointing to

:38:21.:38:29.

hear the bruise from the crowd as he comes out. It is not his problem. He

:38:30.:38:35.

is coming out here and doing his job. You need a bit more respect

:38:36.:38:44.

from the crowd. That has drawn a line in the sand for the rest of the

:38:45.:38:46.

lifters. He stands so strong. Saraiva Reis, with his third and

:38:47.:39:14.

final attempt. He's has gone up to kilos. He is asking the crowd for

:39:15.:39:16.

quiet. That is a failure. It even if he had

:39:17.:39:40.

stood up with it, the referees would have asked him to put it down. He is

:39:41.:39:53.

in fifth place. Watch the adjustment. That is not

:39:54.:40:07.

allowed. He would have been failed. Mart Seim will be looking to move up

:40:08.:40:29.

the rankings with this lift. Is he going to hold it? What do the

:40:30.:41:17.

referees think of that? He was so close. You have got to be much more

:41:18.:41:33.

convincing than this. It is not going to be a new PB for him. He

:41:34.:41:35.

failed. Mart Seim stands up really well.

:41:36.:41:55.

Chest in front. Was it elbows, was it shoulders, was he unlucky? Tough

:41:56.:42:02.

refereeing here tonight. So far, I think the right decisions have been

:42:03.:42:09.

made. This is becoming more and more controversial. We have just had the

:42:10.:42:18.

Iranian officials. We have just seen Salimikordasiabi walk out and

:42:19.:42:21.

question the officials. Extraordinary scenes here. As a

:42:22.:42:29.

lifter, you have to take the decision of the referees, as hard as

:42:30.:42:33.

that may be. He is clearly distraught, but there are other

:42:34.:42:36.

lifters still coming out and he needs to take his argument outside

:42:37.:42:41.

right now and allow the competition to continue. Aleksanyan still has

:42:42.:42:54.

two lifts to come. This lift could be for a bronze medal. He is not

:42:55.:43:00.

happy with the noise that has been generated by this crowd. I am not

:43:01.:43:04.

surprised. It is a very negative atmosphere.

:43:05.:43:27.

Cut it short, manages to get underneath. No.

:43:28.:43:43.

We still have Talakhadze in the lead, with one attempt remaining. He

:43:44.:43:51.

has a healthy lead. He is in 11 kilos clear of Aleksanyan of

:43:52.:44:04.

Armenia. Drives straight out, aggressive effort. Just pushes

:44:05.:44:12.

himself away from the bar. There, we need to be driving with the legs and

:44:13.:44:16.

dropping to catch the way to the head. You can't do that kind of

:44:17.:44:18.

weight with your arms. There's a few lifters in the warm-up

:44:19.:44:30.

room watching anxiously. Still three lifters left in the competition.

:44:31.:44:43.

I don't think anybody can catch Talakhadze. He's got too much of a

:44:44.:44:54.

lead after the snatch. Controversially here again, the

:44:55.:44:56.

Armenian camp is calling for quiet. It's beyond him. He's been a popular

:44:57.:45:55.

competitor here. Oh, dear me. Very, very angry man on stage right now.

:45:56.:46:01.

He's angry because of the lack of respect from some of the Iranian

:46:02.:46:08.

supporters. Let's give these guys a chance. They have worked so hard for

:46:09.:46:14.

this moment. But at the same time, they should be able to focus and

:46:15.:46:17.

shut out anything else that's going on. Just drops his chest. We have an

:46:18.:46:32.

announcement from the crowd. Celebrations. That actually confirms

:46:33.:46:51.

the medallists. There's been an announcement to ask the crowd for

:46:52.:46:55.

quiet and to respect the lifters - about time. Mart Seim lifting for

:46:56.:47:06.

fourth place. Despite good lifting from him in the clean and jerk, too

:47:07.:47:09.

far back after the snatch. He works hard, that's good. Does he

:47:10.:47:37.

have the legs? No, not today. That would have only been good enough for

:47:38.:47:40.

fourth. He gave it everything he had. Think about the snatch

:47:41.:47:48.

competition, how exciting and competitive that was. Clean and jerk

:47:49.:47:53.

has been very different. It's still been hugely competitive. The

:47:54.:47:58.

difference is from having consistent lifting in the snatch, to

:47:59.:48:02.

inconsistent in the clean and jerk. I said time after time, it's the

:48:03.:48:06.

lifter that's most consistent is the one that's likely to come off

:48:07.:48:12.

victorious. So far Talakhadze five out of five lifts. He hasn't let

:48:13.:48:18.

everything else get to him. He's stayed focussed and stayed worried

:48:19.:48:24.

about himself. Right now he's antagonising the crowd. He's already

:48:25.:48:29.

the Olympic champion. This lift is irrevanity. It doesn't matter if it

:48:30.:48:35.

goes off or not, he's won. If he lifts this, an extraordinary weight

:48:36.:48:49.

258, this will be a world record in the combined, currently 472, 258

:48:50.:48:52.

world record attempt here. Oh, you are joking! Well look at that.

:48:53.:49:05.

Fantastic lifting. He can thank the crowd for winding him up. That is

:49:06.:49:21.

some lifting from Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia, 258 kilos. He's taken

:49:22.:49:30.

the total. He's put a kilo on the world record. An extraordinary night

:49:31.:49:43.

of lifting here at Rio 2016. Seriously sagging bar under the

:49:44.:49:47.

weight, either side of it. Wow. Look at that for an effort. Unbelievable.

:49:48.:49:51.

Brilliant lifting. Seven kilos above anything he's done

:49:52.:50:07.

on this kind of platform. Huge drive overhead. He wanted that, didn't he?

:50:08.:50:14.

Just absolutely breath taking. Here is the 2012 Olympic champion.

:50:15.:50:41.

That's nice to see. Salimkordasiabi congratulating and applauding the

:50:42.:50:44.

efforts of Talakhadze. He might have his dispute with the judges, but he

:50:45.:50:48.

can't deny what Talakhadze has achieved here. Extraordinary

:50:49.:50:54.

performance by the Georgian. So it's gold to Georgia in the men's plus

:50:55.:51:03.

105 kg category. Lasha Talakhadze 215 in the snatch, 258 in the clean

:51:04.:51:13.

and jerk, world record of 473, it's Minasyan of Armenia for the silver

:51:14.:51:21.

and bronze for Turmanidze. STUDIO: You have to feel gutted for

:51:22.:51:29.

the Iranian athlete. He couldn't produce anything in the clean and

:51:30.:51:34.

jerk. No medal this time round for Salimkordasiabi. Talakhadze takes

:51:35.:51:38.

the gold. He was banned for two years in 2013. That was for doping.

:51:39.:51:43.

He's back now and he is the Olympic champion. He lifted a frankly

:51:44.:51:51.

ludicrous weight, which in pounds and ounces is way over 40 stone in

:51:52.:51:56.

the clean and jerk. Georgia have an Olympic Gold Medallist. Now, we've

:51:57.:52:05.

got some things to attend to. We promised you various things this

:52:06.:52:09.

evening. We will get round to those. At this time of night, we like to

:52:10.:52:12.

read the messages you've been sending through. Every night we're

:52:13.:52:16.

getting more and more. So, some of these, thank you for all the people

:52:17.:52:19.

enjoying the coverage. It's a pleasure to do this on BBC Four. We

:52:20.:52:24.

enjoy it. Our seven hours every evening, taking through to 2

:52:25.:52:28.

Archbishop. Terry says, "Loved the bit with -- to 2am. Terry says,"

:52:29.:52:33.

Loved the bit with Maria's mum. You must get on the fiance." I think

:52:34.:52:38.

papa is coming on tomorrow, Maria's dad. We don't know, he might just

:52:39.:52:43.

turn up and come on. Can you tell Antony Worrall Thompson to stop his

:52:44.:52:45.

training and get back to his restaurant. I'm expecting a birthday

:52:46.:52:50.

meal next week. That's from Tandy. I like the way rather than saying,

:52:51.:52:58.

Antony Worrall Thompson, you're saying AWT. This one says no AWT, no

:52:59.:53:05.

party. Neil says get the fiance in before you leave for the full set.

:53:06.:53:11.

We'll try that. Can I be the only person who wants Dan walker and the

:53:12.:53:15.

BBC Four team to go to this wedding. Lovely, heart warming story that

:53:16.:53:19.

needs a proper end. I can't come back to Brazil for one day. I've got

:53:20.:53:24.

football focus on that day, September 17th is a Saturday.

:53:25.:53:28.

Petition to start a segment where Mr Walker meets a different member of

:53:29.:53:31.

Maria's family every night. I see where you're going with this. And

:53:32.:53:35.

scror Dan is one of many who said, "I'm gutted, what happened to the

:53:36.:53:42.

bin collection." Hashtag copacabinmen. I can exclusively

:53:43.:53:47.

reveal we have had live bin action. Let's show you that. It wasn't our

:53:48.:53:57.

normal guys. It wasn't Pedro, Rafael, Donatelo and Alejandro.

:53:58.:54:00.

These guys didn't look across. Usually a little wave. But nothing

:54:01.:54:09.

from them tonight. They were just studiously doing their work down at

:54:10.:54:16.

fishermen's corner. On the theme, a brilliant tweet from Bill who says,

:54:17.:54:21.

"Can you pass on our regards from the English binmen, Bill from

:54:22.:54:26.

Sunderland, perhaps one day refuse collection will be an Olympic sport.

:54:27.:54:29.

What a fantastic idea. They're very speedy. That's exactly what I said.

:54:30.:54:34.

These guys are quick. Bill came back with, hold on a minute, Bill said,

:54:35.:54:42.

on my crew, pretty boy, Biffa and sick note have perfected the bin bag

:54:43.:54:46.

throw from 20 yards with uncanny accuracy. Can the boys from Brazil?

:54:47.:54:53.

The thing is though, Bill, do you doe it on a track tore? I think

:54:54.:55:00.

that's the big test -- tractor. We need to get the binmen of Sunderland

:55:01.:55:08.

taking on the cpocabinmen in a huge bin-based Olympic ordeal. I think it

:55:09.:55:12.

could work. I think BBC Four would show it. Maybe we could get Maria's

:55:13.:55:19.

dad as co--comms. About 17 hours ago, we promised you some live

:55:20.:55:23.

boxing, we couldn't bring it to you live. It did happen earlier. We were

:55:24.:55:28.

on various other sports, jaw lure with the medal in the diving. We can

:55:29.:55:32.

bring you two bouts, including two of Team GB's medal hopes. Now the

:55:33.:55:36.

first one is Joshua Buatsi. He's guaranteed a medal. This is the

:55:37.:55:40.

semifinal in the light heavy division. Floyd Mayweather has been

:55:41.:55:49.

watching Joshua this week. He's taking on an impressive candidate

:55:50.:55:53.

from Kazakhstan. He won the Silver Medal in London four years ago in

:55:54.:55:56.

the Olympic Games. He's a two-time world champion. Let's get over to

:55:57.:56:01.

the Rio Centro. This took place earlier on tonight.

:56:02.:56:15.

COMMENTATOR: What a moment for Great Britain's Joshua Buatsi, the south

:56:16.:56:20.

Londoner, guaranteed an Olympic medal. Here he is at the semifinal

:56:21.:56:25.

stage of the 81 kg light-heavyweight tournament looking for a place in

:56:26.:56:27.

the Gold Medal bout. Here is the man would stands between

:56:28.:56:50.

Great Britain's Josh Buatsi and a place in that Olympic final, the

:56:51.:56:56.

huge lay complished, incredibly talented, Niyazymbetov of

:56:57.:57:00.

Kazakhstan, the reigning Olympic Silver Medallist, the former

:57:01.:57:03.

two-time world champion, Silver Medallist as well and that Olympic

:57:04.:57:11.

silver, four years ago in London, he lost on countback, 15 points.

:57:12.:57:17.

Absolutely nothing in it. That gives you an idea of this man's calibre.

:57:18.:57:23.

Josh Buatsi is in a rich vain of form. He's been inspired by the

:57:24.:57:30.

words of Floyd Mayweather, who's tagged him as a future star of the

:57:31.:57:34.

sport. He is one win away from a place in the Gold Medal bout. Buatsi

:57:35.:57:41.

ver size Niyazymbetov in the light-heavyweight semifinal.

:57:42.:57:52.

Representing Great Britain... Joshua Buatsi.

:57:53.:58:04.

Introducing the boxer in the blue corner, representing Kazakhstan...

:58:05.:58:21.

And we are under way in the 81 kilograms light heavyweight

:58:22.:58:57.

division. Both of these men guaranteed at least Olympic bronze,

:58:58.:59:01.

and it is between boxes of Great Britain and Kazakhstan, and the

:59:02.:59:09.

boxer in the red who has made a good start, Joshua Buatsi, the emerging

:59:10.:59:15.

star of this little tournament so far, and the man wearing blue is the

:59:16.:59:20.

hugely experienced incredibly, the two ranked boxer in the world,

:59:21.:59:33.

another to set, a good right jab just a few moments ago, it is

:59:34.:59:36.

Kazakhstan's Adilbek Niyazymbetov. He is a skilful operator, he is

:59:37.:59:43.

doing it sensibly, high guard from what C. Just trying to interrupt the

:59:44.:59:49.

rhythm of the Kazakhstan boxer, that is what he has got to do, so it is a

:59:50.:59:54.

positive start, a good right hand from Buatsi. Niyazymbetov will be a

:59:55.:00:00.

very calm operator, operates fantastically, and boxes wonderfully

:00:01.:00:08.

in the space of the boxing ring, so Buatsi will have to hold his stance.

:00:09.:00:15.

Niyazymbetov using his feet to evade the counter. No disrespect to the

:00:16.:00:23.

tournament number three seed, Joshua Buatsi hurt the man early, stopped

:00:24.:00:29.

him with a dramatic TKO in random number three. This man for my money

:00:30.:00:40.

is a better version of El Sheryf rattled off, he will have to target

:00:41.:00:46.

those counter those punches all match long. The important punches

:00:47.:00:53.

that jab, and he can't afford to miss with that right hand, if you

:00:54.:00:59.

miss the target against this guy, he will then catch you on the counter,

:01:00.:01:03.

so use the jab well, measure the distance, that was a nice jab, and

:01:04.:01:11.

then send that right hand and make sure it gets home, he can't afford

:01:12.:01:15.

to fall short. The sting was taken off it by Niyazymbetov, leaning

:01:16.:01:19.

backwards, cracking southpaw left from Niyazymbetov. Good right hand

:01:20.:01:25.

to the body from the man in red. The most recent addition to the World

:01:26.:01:30.

Championships was Elshod Rasulov, the man who Buatsi so dramatically

:01:31.:01:38.

knocked out. Now the referee has called time, because some

:01:39.:01:45.

adjustments are needed to the right boot of Niyazymbetov. This has been

:01:46.:01:50.

a positive round from Buatsi, he can't rely on Niyazymbetov to have

:01:51.:01:55.

the time on the outside, so occasionally he has to bring up the

:01:56.:02:00.

tempo with his feet, but he can't go in their clumsy, that is what he has

:02:01.:02:03.

got to do here, come forward and hit the target. Niyazymbetov using that

:02:04.:02:08.

footwork to move away from the dangerous right hand of tap back

:02:09.:02:17.

Buatsi. Let's see we can listen into the red corner. You need the

:02:18.:02:22.

control. That is a fair round from Buatsi.

:02:23.:02:38.

Niyazymbetov is a little worried in a way because they probably know

:02:39.:02:47.

Buatsi is a big puncher, so Niyazymbetov would like to get some

:02:48.:02:50.

of the scores, a very close round, but for me, Buatsi did some positive

:02:51.:02:56.

work on that front foot, and again, judges here who prefer that back

:02:57.:02:57.

foot boxing. So, into the second round, and

:02:58.:03:15.

Joshua Buatsi represented Great Britain has conceded the opening

:03:16.:03:20.

round across 10-9 from all three judges against this accomplished,

:03:21.:03:23.

clever Kazakhstan boxer. It is his fourth contest, Joshua Buatsi, he

:03:24.:03:33.

was confident in his opening bouts against the boxer from Uganda and

:03:34.:03:51.

then Elshod Rasulov, and then Abdelhafid Benchabla in the

:03:52.:03:58.

quarterfinal. And Buatsi is just struggling to find his range at the

:03:59.:04:04.

start of this second round. They have said to their man, don't stand

:04:05.:04:08.

your feet against this guy, he is a big puncher, and they are concerned

:04:09.:04:13.

by the power of Buatsi, no question. That is why he has decided to keep

:04:14.:04:20.

it long, Niyazymbetov, he is just trying to keep his distance and pick

:04:21.:04:25.

up the odd punch, so Buatsi will need faster feet, and when he gets

:04:26.:04:28.

him into positions like this, that is where he will score. Buatsi

:04:29.:04:33.

mustn't display any signs of negative body language. His stance

:04:34.:04:37.

has served to well in the tournament, he has been a relentless

:04:38.:04:42.

stalk of the opposition, setting things up with the jab and scoring

:04:43.:04:45.

things really well, particularly to the body, but this is a fleetfooted

:04:46.:04:49.

Karzai boxer that he is facing, he is picking that southpaw left very

:04:50.:04:57.

well indeed. Terrific atmosphere here at Rio Centro Pavilion six,

:04:58.:05:03.

Niyazymbetov forcing Buatsi back to the ropes, and Buatsi showing a few

:05:04.:05:10.

signs of frustration here, he must keep his mind on the job. That is a

:05:11.:05:18.

good right hand that can slow down a fleetfooted boxer if he continues to

:05:19.:05:24.

get those shots. Buatsi being spoken to about voicing his frustration to

:05:25.:05:28.

the referee. He has to keep his mind on the man in front of him here. He

:05:29.:05:33.

has to be quick on the feet, just a little too slow, probably waited a

:05:34.:05:36.

little too long, so he will sustain a little pressure, but he has to be

:05:37.:05:41.

sensible, a little head movement going forward. The feet have

:05:42.:05:45.

definitely got to be quicker here, Niyazymbetov seems to be controlling

:05:46.:05:50.

the pace better than the man in blue. Look is how is able to work in

:05:51.:06:02.

the space of the ring, but it has been around in which the man in blue

:06:03.:06:06.

has dictated the terms, and they are terms that suit him. Buatsi showed

:06:07.:06:16.

few signs of frustration there, but he did well in that second round,

:06:17.:06:19.

this man POSIX Beerens coming to the fore. When he has time and room, the

:06:20.:06:28.

man in blue, he can control. Just the odd fighting attack from

:06:29.:06:34.

Niyazymbetov, a clever boxer, he doesn't really want to mix with

:06:35.:06:37.

Blatty, keeping long-range, then just slips to the side, and again

:06:38.:06:45.

gets through there. At times, Joshua Buatsi was a little too slow with

:06:46.:06:51.

the feet. And the scores again across-the-board for Niyazymbetov,

:06:52.:06:57.

so a tough job for Buatsi now, but having said that, we know that this

:06:58.:07:01.

guy in red, Joshua Buatsi, has got the power to me because an upset

:07:02.:07:03.

here. As we move into the third and final

:07:04.:07:15.

round, Great Britain's Joshua Buatsi, is trailing by two points

:07:16.:07:21.

from all three judges, he scored two stoppage victories in his contests

:07:22.:07:27.

so far, and he will need to produce precise power punching to get back

:07:28.:07:31.

into this contest, but that will be a difficult proposition against

:07:32.:07:34.

Niyazymbetov who glides around the boxing ring is fluidly as Mercury.

:07:35.:07:42.

Cracking right hand, and Niyazymbetov intelligent treatise is

:07:43.:07:44.

man up to get him back into the corner, and that is a turkey stern

:07:45.:07:52.

talking point. -- a stern talking point. He just has to slip to his

:07:53.:07:59.

left a little more, he is throwing the right hand, Joshua Buatsi. As he

:08:00.:08:04.

goes forward, he has tried to slip to the left and throw the right hand

:08:05.:08:07.

down the middle, then maybe he can come back with the left up to the

:08:08.:08:11.

body or the head, but he has to have a little more head movement, Joshua

:08:12.:08:16.

Buatsi, as he is going forward, he is going forward to straight, a

:08:17.:08:21.

little static with his head, so he has to move it to the left and throw

:08:22.:08:27.

that right-hand. And again, the movement from the waist down, with

:08:28.:08:32.

the feet of Niyazymbetov, he is being a very difficult proposition

:08:33.:08:36.

to pin down, and Joshua Buatsi at the midpoint of this third round, he

:08:37.:08:40.

has a minute and a half in which to find a finishing punch or salvo,

:08:41.:08:45.

time is on the side of the man in blue, and now he has his man in the

:08:46.:08:48.

corner, but look at the manner in which Niyazymbetov is keen to

:08:49.:08:58.

initiate a clinch. Never mind, referee, what about the holding an?

:08:59.:09:04.

Joshua Buatsi needs a 10-8 round to get back on terms, and perhaps the

:09:05.:09:06.

more straightforward equation would be to knock this man out, take the

:09:07.:09:12.

judges out of it. Buatsi can't afford to demonstrate this kind of

:09:13.:09:15.

frustration, he has to remain focused and go in search of that

:09:16.:09:17.

finishing shot. Inside the final minute, the clock

:09:18.:09:27.

is Niyazymbetov's friend, and despite being told no holding,

:09:28.:09:31.

Niyazymbetov initiate a clinch once again and walks his man back across

:09:32.:09:40.

the ring in a rather gruesome waltzer. He is concerned, he knows

:09:41.:09:47.

that Buatsi has got a big punch about him, he is doing everything to

:09:48.:09:52.

stifle that. He just grabbed Buatsi on the inside, unless he can find it

:09:53.:09:59.

in these last ten seconds or so, Buatsi... He knows how to navigate

:10:00.:10:04.

his way around a ring, wonderfully, does Adilbek Niyazymbetov, and that

:10:05.:10:09.

came to the fore particularly in this final round, but it was a

:10:10.:10:11.

feature throughout the contest, and going through to the gold-medal bout

:10:12.:10:20.

will be Adilbek Niyazymbetov, and awaiting him in that final medal

:10:21.:10:30.

bout is La Cruz, they have a long-running rivalry, that will be a

:10:31.:10:36.

cracking bout, but Joshua Buatsi, try as he might in the third and

:10:37.:10:40.

final round, couldn't find the finishing blow that he needed,

:10:41.:10:43.

considering he trailed by two for all three judges. He put everything

:10:44.:10:47.

into it, good quality right-hand, but let's give him credit, he has

:10:48.:10:51.

had a fantastic tournament, been one of the most exciting boxers in the

:10:52.:10:53.

tournament given the knockouts. In the blue corner, Adilbek

:10:54.:11:15.

Niyazymbetov. So, Adilbek Niyazymbetov goes

:11:16.:11:17.

through to the gold-medal bout where he will face off against his

:11:18.:11:20.

familiar arrival Julio Cesar La Cruz of Cuba.

:11:21.:11:28.

Josh, congratulations, you got a bronze medal. Thank you, it is not

:11:29.:11:37.

what I came for, but it is a medal. I can't thank everyone by name, but

:11:38.:11:43.

thank you, I am not hurt, I am all good, I am just really disappointed.

:11:44.:11:48.

Are you disappointed also about the refereeing? You weren't really

:11:49.:11:53.

allowed to fight? He was holding, sliding, going behind me, the

:11:54.:11:56.

referee warned him, and I thought he would take off point, he didn't do

:11:57.:12:02.

it. It is what it is, I am upset. You fought four fights here, you

:12:03.:12:06.

stopped two of your opponents, and tonight you fought in front of a

:12:07.:12:09.

packed crowd, the atmosphere was amazing. What has your Olympic

:12:10.:12:15.

experience been like? The atmosphere was amazing, the Brazilian fans have

:12:16.:12:18.

been great, but again, I fell short, I didn't perform like... I am not a

:12:19.:12:31.

loser. I have lost... I have lost, man, to someone I could have beaten.

:12:32.:12:38.

Bad luck, but well done. You will be on the podium, you are a bronze

:12:39.:12:43.

medallist. Thank you everyone for their support, and the British fans

:12:44.:12:46.

back home, and if you are watching, I appreciate it, very grateful. Well

:12:47.:12:52.

said from Joshua Buatsi speaking to John Inverdale after that, and he

:12:53.:12:56.

will go home from Rio with a bronze medal. We have a bit of Joe Joyce

:12:57.:13:02.

coming up for you, is as well, and you might remember you might

:13:03.:13:06.

remember the other night we showed him winning just one night, or he

:13:07.:13:13.

was destroying dos Santos, we will show you his quarterfinals, so if he

:13:14.:13:17.

wins this, he will go through and he is guaranteed a medal in the boxing.

:13:18.:13:22.

There has been some banging here, and we have seen the workmen getting

:13:23.:13:27.

things ready, this is how they do things later night, it is quarter

:13:28.:13:31.

past nine in Rio, I know it is way past midnight back in the UK, but

:13:32.:13:34.

they are getting everything in position for the triathlon and

:13:35.:13:38.

marathon. The triathlon goes right pastors here on Thursday, we will

:13:39.:13:50.

see the Brownlies involved in that, and while we are watching those

:13:51.:13:53.

guys, there was a bit of this going on on the beach, as well. We have

:13:54.:13:58.

had a few romantic couples over the last few days on BBC Four, but I

:13:59.:14:01.

always thought there was a rule about no heavy petting, your is that

:14:02.:14:09.

just in a swimming pool? We call it fisherman's corner, the locals do,

:14:10.:14:13.

but we have had a lovely bit of petting on the beach here. They all

:14:14.:14:18.

seem to sit on that step, the same spot, I don't know what it is, they

:14:19.:14:22.

look out on the Atlantic, maybe it is Maria. Maria is having an effect

:14:23.:14:27.

on all of them, and nothing more sinister took place at any stage, we

:14:28.:14:31.

can assure you of that. Onto Joe Joyce in the super heavyweight

:14:32.:14:39.

division. He won bronze last year, and a gold in the Commonwealth

:14:40.:14:45.

Games, and also the European games as well, so he has a bit of pedigree

:14:46.:14:48.

when it comes to this sort of thing. He is in the quarterfinals, he is

:14:49.:14:54.

taking on Uzbekistan's Bakhodir Jalolov, who also won bronze in the

:14:55.:14:57.

Championship is as well, so here comes Joe Joyce, let's get that to

:14:58.:14:58.

the ring. We move up to the super heavyweight

:14:59.:15:16.

division, Joe Joyce approaching the boxing ring. This quarterfinal

:15:17.:15:23.

contest, a place in the medal contest at stake.

:15:24.:15:36.

His opponent, Bakhodir Jalolov with his elaborate entrance into the

:15:37.:16:14.

boxing ring. Introducing, the boxer in the red corner, representing

:16:15.:16:15.

Great Britain... Joe Joyce! Introducing, the boxer in the blue

:16:16.:16:45.

corner, representing Uzbekistan... Bakhodir Jalolov!

:16:46.:16:53.

Gentlemen, you keep your head up, no holding, always above waist height.

:16:54.:16:58.

Seconds, good luck. We are at the quarterfinal stage in

:16:59.:17:18.

the 91 kilograms plus superheavyweight division, this

:17:19.:17:21.

contest will determine who will go through to the medal stages of this

:17:22.:17:26.

tournament. It has been contested between boxers from Great Britain

:17:27.:17:32.

and Uzbekistan, the man in red is the British representative, Joe

:17:33.:17:36.

Joyce, the number three ranked boxer in the world, the bronze medallist,

:17:37.:17:41.

facing the fellow World Championship bronze medallist, the other losing

:17:42.:17:45.

semifinalist and that is Bakhodir Jalolov. 22 years of age, the

:17:46.:17:53.

tournament number six seed, ranked seventh in the world, Joe Joyce is

:17:54.:18:00.

six foot six. It is really important for Joe Joyce. This fella will not

:18:01.:18:04.

want anything to do with Joe Joyce, they will have done his homework, he

:18:05.:18:09.

is strong, on the front foot, this young boxer will look to hit and

:18:10.:18:16.

move and that is why killjoys has to the body, target with the right

:18:17.:18:22.

uppercut -- Joe Joyce. He has to slow down the feet of this

:18:23.:18:27.

Uzbekistan that boxer and work with the jab. Work with that right

:18:28.:18:32.

uppercut into the midsection. A man who has played a crucial part in the

:18:33.:18:38.

development of the British representative, good left hand from

:18:39.:18:43.

Jalolov. He is making Joe Joyce mess with that wonderful movement but

:18:44.:18:49.

Fraser Clark has fought him and he advised him, he said this man does

:18:50.:19:00.

not enjoy sustained pressure and advise Joe Joyce to put it on him.

:19:01.:19:05.

Joe Joyce possesses a terrific engine and can box really well for

:19:06.:19:12.

the full duration of the rounds. This fellow will slow down and once

:19:13.:19:19.

he does, that will allow Joe Joyce to work more to the body and get

:19:20.:19:26.

some quality shots. Not too bad from Joe Joyce, set a high pace, fast

:19:27.:19:31.

tempo, high workrate and he is going to get to this man and overwhelm him

:19:32.:19:38.

with work. Beginning to have a bit more success, Joe Joyce, good right

:19:39.:19:44.

left combination from Jalolov. Targeting the body with shots like

:19:45.:19:48.

that will slow down our fleetfooted individual. Jalolov took a hard

:19:49.:19:54.

right hand into the solar plexus. Still he is poking out long straight

:19:55.:19:59.

shots, disrupting the movement of Joe Joyce. He is targeting the body

:20:00.:20:04.

effectively and Jalolov backing off. Joe Joyce going to work. That hurt

:20:05.:20:12.

Jalolov, good work from Joe Joyce. He has set the tone and the pattern.

:20:13.:20:19.

Working downstairs. His opponent has give away there. He has been hurt.

:20:20.:20:32.

The ultimate mistake. When you get there, you have to set about him.

:20:33.:20:38.

Joe Joyce targeting the body, Jalolov worked well on the outside.

:20:39.:20:44.

Nice one, two there. Towards the end of the round, he made the classic

:20:45.:20:48.

mistake of showing some pain to the body. He was hurt, he showed it and

:20:49.:20:55.

that is all that Joe Joyce needs. Let us look at the scores. They have

:20:56.:21:01.

give it to Joe Joyce. So we go into the second round of

:21:02.:21:16.

this 91 kilograms plus superheavyweight quarterfinal and

:21:17.:21:21.

Joe Joyce begins on the front foot with a marauding attack against the

:21:22.:21:24.

man who is now struggling to keep them off. That is what I told you,

:21:25.:21:30.

once you show him that you are heard, he will keep coming and Joe

:21:31.:21:35.

Joyce is just getting warmed up, he has a great engine, great sustained

:21:36.:21:39.

pressure. Most certainly and the counters and the good left hand get

:21:40.:21:45.

through, the counters from Jalolov becoming more pedestrian and a bit

:21:46.:21:50.

slower and he is running into big shots from Joe Joyce. Jalolov has

:21:51.:21:56.

been heard, this will test his character and his bottle. Joe Joyce

:21:57.:22:00.

has to steady himself and keep the workrate going. Looking to his

:22:01.:22:05.

corner, the man in blue, per train negative body language already. Joe

:22:06.:22:13.

Joyce is the sting on that long and slender torso. Good work from Joe

:22:14.:22:19.

Joyce, in and out with the feed. Getting through with quality shots

:22:20.:22:24.

and again switches downstairs, good performance, has to keep it going.

:22:25.:22:29.

Jalolov is showing character, he has been heard repeatedly to the body

:22:30.:22:33.

and is spending most of his time covering up. Joe Joyce is helping

:22:34.:22:40.

himself. Jalolov with a furtive glance to his corner, looking for

:22:41.:22:46.

encouragement. Hard shot to the body once again. Jalolov showing signs of

:22:47.:22:51.

desperation. He will pass to the canvas. Weary fighter. The referee

:22:52.:22:57.

has given him every chance to recover. I think he is delaying the

:22:58.:23:03.

inevitable. He is tiring by the second. Joe Joyce still keeps

:23:04.:23:12.

coming. Doubled over from body shots from Joe Joyce. Jalolov in real

:23:13.:23:19.

trouble, almost entering survival mode but his pride season still

:23:20.:23:23.

poking out shots trying to keep this man at bay. A hard right hand sinks

:23:24.:23:32.

into the canvas. No count given. Joe Joyce will be encouraged by the fact

:23:33.:23:35.

that he can hurt this man and he has 30 seconds to put him on the floor

:23:36.:23:42.

and possibly keep him there. Jalolov is in desperate trouble and he

:23:43.:23:46.

deserves credit for continuing to compete. Every shop that Joe Joyce

:23:47.:23:56.

lands is affecting him more. Clearly a 10-8 round for a Joe Joyce. Total

:23:57.:24:02.

domination from the man in red, a great round of boxing, he has hurt

:24:03.:24:06.

his opponent several times. If this is not a 10-8, I will be amazed. Joe

:24:07.:24:13.

Joyce with an utterly dominant three minutes of boxing. Bakhodir Jalolov,

:24:14.:24:23.

so highly regarded, appeared to have little left in his gas tank. His

:24:24.:24:29.

corner trying to encourage him. They have not been on the receiving end

:24:30.:24:35.

of the punches from Joe Joyce. Joe Joyce just keeps coming. They have a

:24:36.:24:41.

saying in the gym, goal and get them, Joe, and he certainly did

:24:42.:24:48.

there. He is looking concerned for his team-mate. 10-9, but make no

:24:49.:24:53.

mistake, it was a dominant round for a Joe Joyce and a painful round for

:24:54.:24:57.

Bakhodir Jalolov and he would do well to hear the final bell in this

:24:58.:25:07.

contest. Hands clasped in prayer, perhaps divine intervention the only

:25:08.:25:14.

thing that can help this man now. Into the third and final round we go

:25:15.:25:20.

and Joe Joyce steps right back onto the logo of the boxing ring and

:25:21.:25:24.

walks him down. Jalolov betraying signs that he is heard. He is

:25:25.:25:30.

holding his eye. I do not think he wants much more of this. The referee

:25:31.:25:35.

holding the mandatory eight count and I think this is it. He deserves

:25:36.:25:43.

immense kudos. All he is doing is taking further punishment, but his

:25:44.:25:47.

pride will not allow him to concede. Joe Joyce taking off on this man.

:25:48.:25:57.

Joe Joyce keeps coming. I would be thinking about throwing in the

:25:58.:26:01.

towel, this fellow is struggling. He is turning away there. I know this

:26:02.:26:07.

is an Olympic quarterfinal, this young man, he is in a bit of

:26:08.:26:13.

trouble, he is going to get hurt. Joe Joyce trying to cut off the ring

:26:14.:26:19.

and prevent an cut of the skipper at that Jalolov is trying to fashion.

:26:20.:26:26.

Jolting left jab driving his man backwards, Jalolov is so highly

:26:27.:26:30.

thought of that he was the flag bearer for Uzbekistan at these

:26:31.:26:36.

Olympic Games. It looks as though his Olympics is coming to an end. He

:26:37.:26:46.

is trailing by two points. He is being dominated by the other radiant

:26:47.:26:53.

World Championship bronze medallist, with his marauding attacks, he has

:26:54.:26:57.

overwhelmed and dominated this man. Jalolov trying to find something

:26:58.:27:00.

with which to fight back but he is weary. He is exhausted. This is a

:27:01.:27:09.

survival mission. Joe Joyce goes in with the uppercut, hurting his

:27:10.:27:14.

opponent, will he get through the last minute? Hard left hand to the

:27:15.:27:20.

body. Jalolov walking back. Joe Joyce continuing to stock his man.

:27:21.:27:29.

-- stock. The referee giving him plenty of time. Going to help. Joe

:27:30.:27:37.

Joyce keeps coming. He wants to get on that medal rostrum. He is 30

:27:38.:27:45.

seconds away from a place on the medal podium. Despite the best

:27:46.:27:49.

efforts of Jalolov to escape the incessant pressure, there is no

:27:50.:27:54.

escape route. Like a ghoulish figure from the stuff of nightmares, Joe

:27:55.:27:59.

Joyce keeps on coming. He issues as second eight count, Jalolov had been

:28:00.:28:07.

utterly dominated for the entire 33-minute rounds, fighting back up

:28:08.:28:12.

until the closing bell. It is Joe Joyce, the Great Britain

:28:13.:28:15.

superheavyweight who will be going through to the final four and a

:28:16.:28:20.

guaranteed Olympic bronze medal in the superheavyweight division and

:28:21.:28:24.

Great Britain's outstanding record in this, the biggest of all weight

:28:25.:28:29.

classes continues. Every time a British boxer has entered, they come

:28:30.:28:37.

away with Olympic hardware, starting in 1984 in Los Angeles. Tremendous

:28:38.:28:42.

staff from Joe Joyce, young Jalolov got through it but I do not know

:28:43.:28:49.

how. Pressure from Jalolov -- Joe Joyce keeps going, excellent

:28:50.:28:53.

performance. Our medal target in boxing was three and we have got the

:28:54.:28:59.

third medal, Joe Joyce is on that podium stand alone with Nicola Adams

:29:00.:29:10.

and Joshua Buatsi. This fellow and Nicola Adams. Great performance by

:29:11.:29:14.

Joe Joyce, he goes through to at least a bronze medal. Let us get the

:29:15.:29:19.

announcement. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision...

:29:20.:29:35.

In the red corner... Joe Joyce! Great Britain's Joe Joyce makes it

:29:36.:29:38.

through to the bronze medal podium at least in the 91 kilograms plus

:29:39.:29:44.

superheavyweight division with a great display of nonstop punching to

:29:45.:29:49.

eliminate the 22-year-old Bakhodir Jalolov. And how about that? Joe

:29:50.:30:04.

Joyce demonstrating his supreme athleticism that serves him so well

:30:05.:30:08.

in the boxing ring. The mission is not over yet, he is through to the

:30:09.:30:12.

semi-finals, at least a guaranteed bronze medal but he will want

:30:13.:30:18.

superheavyweight gold to emulate Anthony Joshua and Audley Harrison.

:30:19.:30:22.

Great Britain with a great record in this the biggest of weight classes.

:30:23.:30:28.

He has emulated David Price but there is plenty more to come from

:30:29.:30:33.

Joe Joyce, that semifinal will be on August 19.

:30:34.:30:38.

Some silky skills from Joe Joyce, and he will take on Ivan Dychko on

:30:39.:30:52.

Friday at 7.15 your time in the UK. The guys are still getting ready for

:30:53.:30:55.

the triathlon and the marathon which comes up this weekend. Joe Joyce

:30:56.:31:01.

fighting at 7:15pm in the semifinal, guaranteed a bronze medal, but he

:31:02.:31:08.

could go all the way and potentially follow in the footsteps of Anthony

:31:09.:31:11.

Joshua who will be part of our BBC team in the next few days. It has

:31:12.:31:15.

reached that beautiful time of night. Nothing sinister is

:31:16.:31:20.

happening! It is a warm evening, I know I am wearing a jumper, but I am

:31:21.:31:26.

cold-blooded. There are some kids out there frolicking in the sea. No

:31:27.:31:31.

one has told them, I think somebody was relieving themselves in their

:31:32.:31:34.

little earlier on, but they are flying their kite, enjoying the

:31:35.:31:41.

surf, it is still 22 degrees here, and hopefully for those doubters who

:31:42.:31:44.

still don't think we are in Brazil, you cannot go in the sea that time

:31:45.:31:49.

of night with one pair of shorts on in Bognor Regis, surely that is the

:31:50.:31:53.

conclusive proof that we are in fact an Copacabana Beach. Over on BBC One

:31:54.:31:58.

at the moment, they have some very attractive sport for you. The

:31:59.:32:04.

women's 400 metres hurdles is ongoing at the moment, Gaby is

:32:05.:32:09.

therein the stadium. With Michael Johnson. They will be there for the

:32:10.:32:15.

next few hours. We are here on BBC Four until two o'clock, they will

:32:16.:32:22.

keep things going until half three, for in the morning, with Jason

:32:23.:32:25.

Mohammed, and if you do have to go to sleep, I know people last day

:32:26.:32:28.

they would love to stay up but they have to work, we totally appreciate

:32:29.:32:32.

that, you could always recapturing is and watched Jason's late-night

:32:33.:32:35.

show the next day, repeated around nine o'clock in the morning, so if

:32:36.:32:40.

you miss anything, and if you want to go back to the website and see

:32:41.:32:44.

any of the headlines or some of the great performances from the day

:32:45.:32:47.

before, everything is available on the BBC website and on the iPlayer

:32:48.:32:52.

as well. I know we haven't got that many days of the Olympic Games left,

:32:53.:32:57.

but the website and the BBC Sport at our good tools for finding what is

:32:58.:33:00.

on where, and a schedule of every single day, so if you are wondering

:33:01.:33:04.

when the triathlon will take place, you can find that on the app and

:33:05.:33:09.

plan your viewing accordingly. I know some people back been saying,

:33:10.:33:14.

why are you switching from BBC One to BBC Two, what is on BBC Four,

:33:15.:33:18.

that is a really easy way of finding out which sport is an and you can go

:33:19.:33:22.

through the various red buttons on the website to see up to 24 live

:33:23.:33:28.

streams at the same time. So if you are struggling to find out what is

:33:29.:33:31.

on where, that is a one-stop shop to get things sorted. We are not having

:33:32.:33:36.

that much live sport tonight, we have reached that stage where at

:33:37.:33:41.

around about this time, there is much to show you, so live sport is

:33:42.:33:46.

over on BBC One, but we are going to show you one of the best pieces of

:33:47.:33:49.

action from earlier on today which you may well have missed. Yesterday

:33:50.:33:56.

on this channel we showed you Reggie Gusev in the quarterfinal of the

:33:57.:33:59.

men's singles, reaching the quarterfinals of the men's singles.

:34:00.:34:04.

Now we will show you Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, we featured

:34:05.:34:07.

them highly over the last few days on BBC Four. They were going in the

:34:08.:34:12.

semifinals, a chance to reach the gold-medal match, they are taking on

:34:13.:34:19.

China, they have been brilliant in the Olympic men's double so far,

:34:20.:34:21.

let's see how they got on today. So, Zhang to start game number two.

:34:22.:34:46.

And that was the kind of bullying nature we saw in their last win

:34:47.:34:52.

against the Japanese, higher power. Now, can they continue in this vein?

:34:53.:34:57.

They will have to rush the Chinese pair, no doubt about it.

:34:58.:35:22.

Frustration, you can see Langridge is just a little upset with himself.

:35:23.:35:28.

He said how tired he was yesterday in the post-match interview against

:35:29.:35:31.

the Japanese, glad he got it done in straight games, so he has plenty in

:35:32.:35:33.

the tank today. Great defence from Alison Lapper

:35:34.:36:07.

Bridge, but in the end, Fu would not be denied. Once they are on the

:36:08.:36:12.

front foot, they are very tough to budge.

:36:13.:36:38.

Yes, service illegal, above waist. The Brits have asked the service

:36:39.:36:52.

judge umpire to have a good look at that.

:36:53.:37:07.

Targeting the left hip of Ellis, and bearing fruit. Very aggressive legs,

:37:08.:37:16.

the Chinese pairing, just stamping on anything they can, and when it

:37:17.:37:18.

gets above net height, they pounce so quickly.

:37:19.:37:38.

The trouble being for the blues as well they don't have the lift aways

:37:39.:37:47.

and the clears so often, they want to keep the shuttle down but they

:37:48.:37:51.

are being beaten a lot in these fast, hard exchanges, so it is

:37:52.:37:52.

difficult. Very few unforced errors in the

:37:53.:38:11.

opening game for either Fu or Zhang. And the lead extenders to two, and

:38:12.:39:47.

the Brits can't afford fitted to go any further. You can see they are

:39:48.:39:52.

trying to pounce very early on to these returns to get the upper hand

:39:53.:39:56.

in the point, but the Chinese are up to it in response.

:39:57.:40:16.

Langridge razor sharp there. I guess that is how the conversation has

:40:17.:40:25.

gone, Chris, you have to be brave, get to the front court and stay

:40:26.:40:29.

there, get that racket up and try to get involved as much as you can.

:40:30.:40:50.

They are so good, the Stu, at forcing you to over press, because

:40:51.:41:03.

they batten down the hatches so well.

:41:04.:41:13.

More experienced at playing at this highest tempo, as is becoming

:41:14.:41:21.

further evident, but it is still only a two point game.

:41:22.:41:31.

The call to late, Langridge is the one barking out the orders, but it

:41:32.:41:40.

was a beautifully delivered shot. High level of skill there of that

:41:41.:41:43.

high shot to get it so tight to the net. Fu with devastating power, but

:41:44.:41:53.

also a light touch. They can't afford for this lead to extend any

:41:54.:41:54.

more. That time Langridge really showing

:41:55.:42:21.

off the power. There was a real injection of pace here from Chris

:42:22.:42:24.

Langridge, getting hold of this beautifully, got behind it so well

:42:25.:42:25.

and just dispatched. Is he taking the insult out? No.

:42:26.:42:53.

Sometimes I guess the insole kinks a little bit and is uncomfortable

:42:54.:42:56.

against the toes, which I think is what has happened, because it didn't

:42:57.:42:57.

look like some kind of orthotic. Not tactical, this, at all. These

:42:58.:43:12.

guys are such creatures of habit, as well, it's all got to be just right.

:43:13.:43:22.

You can see the intensity in the eyes of all four here.

:43:23.:43:39.

Doesn't give a lot of weight emotionally, Fu or Zhang, very

:43:40.:43:46.

stonefaced, businesslike. Yes, I'm sure he decided just a

:43:47.:44:04.

little too late there, that that shuttle was going in. Perfectly

:44:05.:44:09.

weighted lift away here from Langridge, look at this, hesitancy,

:44:10.:44:14.

tries to redeem himself, unable. Only the second point that the Brits

:44:15.:44:17.

have scored on serve. So, the lead sticking at around two.

:44:18.:44:50.

It was at this point in the opening game that they started to play their

:44:51.:44:52.

very best, Langridge and Ellis. Such a shame, because Marcus Ellis

:44:53.:45:10.

spread the court well with the smash, just seem to snatch at it a

:45:11.:45:16.

little bit. Just over pressing, a little anxious, of course they are.

:45:17.:45:20.

Scoreboard pressure now started to strangle the British team a little,

:45:21.:45:22.

stifling their creativity. The lead, as big as it has been,

:45:23.:45:31.

throughout this second game. Yes, Zhang Nan dealing with most of

:45:32.:46:00.

the overheads. The big difference was when Fu Haifeng decided to come

:46:01.:46:06.

to the party. Yes, absolutely, look at that, thunderous, so strong in

:46:07.:46:10.

the forearm and he can often be out of position but because he is so

:46:11.:46:13.

strong, he ripped through the shuttle.

:46:14.:46:24.

He really is a calming influence, the coach.

:46:25.:46:36.

But the problem for the British pair is that Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan are

:46:37.:46:42.

back in this calm zone that they have. Electric quickness but there

:46:43.:46:51.

is a serenity about them. Yes, they are very good at running with the

:46:52.:46:57.

lead as we saw in the opening game. Will they falter a little? The back

:46:58.:47:05.

support that Chris Langridge wears throughout. So, it was double gold,

:47:06.:47:24.

in London. Will it be another final here in Rio?

:47:25.:47:48.

The pressure is telling. Showed a lot of character in that point. Can

:47:49.:48:02.

they build on this? They have only managed to generate a run of three

:48:03.:48:06.

consecutive points, two consecutive points in game number one and unable

:48:07.:48:08.

to do so in game number two. A few British bands in the crowd

:48:09.:48:38.

making their presence felt. -- bands. -- fans.

:48:39.:48:51.

Suddenly it is all changing! Real hope now. Spirited clothes from

:48:52.:49:03.

Chris Langridge, pre-empting the response really well.

:49:04.:49:27.

Really surprised that Zhang Nan missed that. I think it was due to

:49:28.:50:02.

one of the men in blue closing minute down and he took his eye off

:50:03.:50:06.

the shuttle. The dominance that they had, a lot of the first game, seems

:50:07.:50:12.

to have gone now, are very close match. It is all about the British

:50:13.:50:22.

players keeping the angle in the knees.

:50:23.:50:35.

Chris Langridge tried the interception but was unable to deal

:50:36.:50:41.

with the power. A little bit of a miscommunication, Chris Langridge

:50:42.:50:44.

was upset because he thought it was a shuttle for Marcus Ellis. He is

:50:45.:50:53.

upset with himself there. It is the speed that the Chinese team are

:50:54.:50:55.

playing with, it is difficult to live with.

:50:56.:51:51.

Again, just too much. They two point lead re-emerges. -- a two lead

:51:52.:52:13.

emerges. -- point. They have a real sting, both of them.

:52:14.:52:30.

Did so well reading the serve but were unable to really capitalise. A

:52:31.:52:39.

little greedy with the angle, but a great idea nonetheless.

:52:40.:53:00.

Well plays. Just about staying in touch. They have got to get a run

:53:01.:53:08.

going at some stage. Well played. Getting more and more

:53:09.:53:48.

exciting now. Marcus Ellis threading a needle and the lead is down to

:53:49.:53:54.

one. Very evident in the physical intensity of Marcus Ellis, he is all

:53:55.:53:58.

over the net, hunting down the shuttle aggressively. He is playing

:53:59.:54:03.

every point! Looking pretty confident!

:54:04.:54:16.

It is long and they are level. First time for a while, they have trailed

:54:17.:54:26.

by three and now it is 15 each. And again! What a patch this is for

:54:27.:54:51.

Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis. Starting to believe.

:54:52.:55:24.

How about that? Did not win the point but that was quite

:55:25.:55:37.

astonishing! He was always going to be the target when he slipped to the

:55:38.:55:41.

floor and he was in no hurry to get up, but he did well, fended off a

:55:42.:55:51.

couple of blows there. They say do not take this lying down, well, he

:55:52.:56:01.

nearly did! Shows you the measure of the intensity and we are back level

:56:02.:56:03.

at 16. Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan so

:56:04.:56:19.

experienced in this kind of atmosphere. Invariably coming out on

:56:20.:56:20.

top. They are Olympic champions. He is OK, direct hit, but no harm

:56:21.:56:49.

done, but the Chinese are in front now, though. Marcus Ellis trying to

:56:50.:56:57.

get out of the way because I think he felt the shuttle was going long

:56:58.:56:58.

but he was unable to do so. Yes, so the gap, very well directed.

:56:59.:57:32.

We are level again. Good sense of being alert and calm simultaneously

:57:33.:57:37.

from Chris Langridge, very focused, excellent play. He has really picked

:57:38.:57:46.

his game up in the second game. Much more of a factor.

:57:47.:58:08.

There are going to challenge. They might as well. It is getting late

:58:09.:58:17.

on. They do have two reviews each game. Shuttle called blog. It did

:58:18.:58:23.

seem extremely close. -- long. So, the Chinese are back in the

:58:24.:58:36.

lead. Somehow, you sense these two will

:58:37.:58:58.

probably not get tight, they have been so experienced in these

:58:59.:58:59.

moments. Two points away from the Olympic

:59:00.:59:14.

final. Good judgment again. Three match

:59:15.:59:46.

points for China. Good stuff from Chris Langridge,

:59:47.:00:23.

keeping their hopes alive, a little bit of fortune and we will take

:00:24.:00:29.

anything right now. Absolutely. Hard in the mouth moment, it bobbles on

:00:30.:00:34.

top of the net, unable to confirm, looks like it landed. Clarity. They

:00:35.:00:38.

are still alive in this one. A few more beads of sweat rubbed

:00:39.:00:50.

away. It wasn't to be. The Chinese got off

:00:51.:01:39.

to a terrific start, and they just about held on in the end. Though

:01:40.:01:43.

valiant effort from Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis, but they are

:01:44.:01:50.

beaten at the semifinal stage. Still a chance of a medal, of course that

:01:51.:01:56.

it is Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan who go through to the final on Friday.

:01:57.:02:04.

A cracking performance from Ellison language, but finally they have met

:02:05.:02:10.

their match. They have produced some sub stunning stuff, -- stunning

:02:11.:02:17.

stuff, but they still have an opportunity to leave these Rio games

:02:18.:02:22.

with the bronze. And that bronze medal match will take place on

:02:23.:02:26.

Thursday at three o'clock, and they play the other Chinese pair in that

:02:27.:02:34.

bronze medal match. So we have come towards the end of our coverage on

:02:35.:02:38.

BBC Four the day 11 of the games. They are still getting things ready

:02:39.:02:45.

here in Copacabana, some furious angle grinding going on, the

:02:46.:02:51.

triathlon takes place in two days, they are sorting out an area, maybe

:02:52.:02:56.

a water station, that fellow is banging a stake into one of the main

:02:57.:03:01.

roads. People are looking on slightly bemused at what is

:03:02.:03:03.

happening, but I'm sure they know what they are doing, and by the time

:03:04.:03:08.

the triathlon and the marathon, and after that the weekend starts,

:03:09.:03:11.

everything will be fine. I think that is a drinks station they are

:03:12.:03:16.

making. Good to know they would be moving anywhere. Just a few days

:03:17.:03:21.

before the triathlon actually starts. Some of the highlights from

:03:22.:03:26.

day 12, a fantastic volleyball match to look forward to, not actually in

:03:27.:03:31.

our time, but worth staying up for, Brazil against Argentina. We have

:03:32.:03:35.

told you a lot about the local rivalry, women's golf starts

:03:36.:03:41.

tomorrow, Justin Rose leaving here with the gold medal, he is now back

:03:42.:03:45.

at home, but Charley Hull and Katrina Matthew going to Team GB in

:03:46.:03:50.

the women's golf. We have a long interview we will play with Justin

:03:51.:03:53.

Rose, that is why I was late yesterday, I spoke to him at British

:03:54.:03:59.

house here in Rio, and also Jessica Ennis-Hill, reflection from both of

:04:00.:04:05.

those, we will play you those at length over the next few days here

:04:06.:04:09.

on BBC Four, and the women's hockey, Team GB go in the semifinal, bronze

:04:10.:04:17.

four years ago in London the Kate Richardson-Walsh's side, and they

:04:18.:04:20.

take on New Zealand, that may be an BBC One, but if it is available on

:04:21.:04:24.

BBC Four, we will keep you up-to-date. We will be back from

:04:25.:04:28.

Rand about one o'clock tomorrow, all the way through until two o'clock in

:04:29.:04:33.

the morning. We do appreciate all your interaction. I'm getting told

:04:34.:04:38.

off by the rest of the BBC Four Cruyff are looking iPhone to

:04:39.:04:41.

regularly, but you keep sending so many messages, and they are well

:04:42.:04:45.

worth reading. We will leave you with the image of the night as we

:04:46.:04:49.

build up to Maria's dad coming on the programme tomorrow, it really is

:04:50.:04:52.

the golden couple from the Team GB perspective of today, Jason Kenny

:04:53.:04:57.

and Laura Trott, both on the podium, between them they have ten gold

:04:58.:05:02.

medals, when they get married, if Spandau Ballet are not playing at

:05:03.:05:06.

their wedding, there is something wrong with the world! Good night.
