secondary opportunity. That is where they kill you, the United States,

:00:00.:00:00.

with their secondary attempts. So, a minute left. Argentina with the

:00:00.:00:13.

ball, and Campazzo out to Scola for three. It is a long-range attempt,

:00:14.:00:18.

Scola giving the Argentinians some hope, but no one can really hear a

:00:19.:00:24.

comeback coming, because the United States are really in control here,

:00:25.:00:29.

they are up by 24 points. Paul George escaping the market from

:00:30.:00:35.

Argentina, Butler with the 3-point attempt, Cousins getting the

:00:36.:00:38.

rebound, and they are getting first to everything, they are stopping

:00:39.:00:43.

Argentina, it is all the United States right now.

:00:44.:00:50.

So, as Campazzo, he is just going to wind this down, heading towards

:00:51.:00:58.

three quarters time. There have been plenty of highlights for the show

:00:59.:01:04.

reel for the USA. Now Scola... Nips again. Durant on the break. Butler.

:01:05.:01:14.

What a performance from the United States. And how important it is to

:01:15.:01:20.

them after they won in their preliminaries by three over Serbia

:01:21.:01:25.

and three over France and in the quarter-final they are just starting

:01:26.:01:28.

to warm up. So it looks like the US are going

:01:29.:01:32.

into the semifinals of the basketball. Earlier today in the

:01:33.:01:38.

other men's quarter-finals Australia beat Lithuania 90- 64, and Spain

:01:39.:01:43.

beat France 92- 67 this evening. Then it is creation -- Croatia

:01:44.:01:51.

taking on Serbia. Lots of ways to keep up with what is going on at the

:01:52.:01:58.

Olympics online. It is time to say good evening to Gabby Logan at the

:01:59.:02:04.

Olympic Stadium with track and field coming up. First of all, Gabby, how

:02:05.:02:11.

is off? No danger of another moth coming into the studio ever again

:02:12.:02:14.

after the effort put in by Michael Johnson last night to take out that

:02:15.:02:19.

moth, and that moths has relayed that story to all other moths and

:02:20.:02:22.

they are not coming anywhere near us. Showing him who is boss. Let's

:02:23.:02:28.

talk athletics, because we have an almost full house, it is getting

:02:29.:02:33.

full, we have not seen as many as this earlier and there is only one

:02:34.:02:37.

reason, Usain Bolt is back in the house with the 200 metres semifinals

:02:38.:02:42.

for the men. Yes, I am looking at this race and starting to think it

:02:43.:02:46.

might be more competitive than 200 metre races we seen Usain Bolt in

:02:47.:02:50.

the past, because I am not sure, I don't know what his preparation has

:02:51.:02:55.

been light between the injury and what we saw him do at the

:02:56.:03:00.

Anniversary Games in London and here in Rio -- been like. Obviously, the

:03:01.:03:04.

100 metres, he would have wanted to defend, and he was able to do that.

:03:05.:03:09.

It takes a lot of technical work and pure speed work. I am not sure how

:03:10.:03:13.

much speed and conditioning work he has been able to do, which would

:03:14.:03:17.

allow you to sustain that speed over long distance, that is the 200

:03:18.:03:24.

metres. You have Merit, he would be disappointed not to get a better

:03:25.:03:28.

medal in the 400 metres, he got bronze, silver was the best that he

:03:29.:03:33.

could get, but he will now turn his attention to the 200 metres, he has

:03:34.:03:36.

the fastest time in the world. I don't think he can get down to 19 or

:03:37.:03:47.

19.6. This will be his last opportunity to maybe get this guy at

:03:48.:03:54.

one time -- 19.5 or 19.6. That racy shaping up to be a little bit more

:03:55.:04:00.

competitive. In each of these areas a British representative -- that

:04:01.:04:05.

race is shaping up. Of the three, who is in with the best chance?

:04:06.:04:10.

Mitchell-Blake, running under 20 seconds already this year, he has

:04:11.:04:14.

had that experience of running in championships with the US National

:04:15.:04:20.

Collegiate championships. He has been in that competition. He looked

:04:21.:04:24.

tired yesterday. He partly qualified in the round. Not as the fastest in

:04:25.:04:32.

the heat. Hopefully he will have recovered well and he can come out

:04:33.:04:35.

and display the same speed that he has earlier in the year. It has been

:04:36.:04:40.

a long season for him, starting back in January. And the women final

:04:41.:04:46.

tonight. The women's final will be a fantastic race. I think Dina will

:04:47.:04:51.

have a difficult time. Elaine Thompson, all in the outside lane

:04:52.:04:58.

is, six, seven and eight, it will be a fantastic race, they will all be

:04:59.:05:02.

together and we will see a very tight race, as we saw in the women's

:05:03.:05:06.

400 -- lanes. At the end of the evening, as well with the women's

:05:07.:05:11.

final, the semifinals are at the beginning of the programme on the

:05:12.:05:16.

track. And the men's to as well. And Great Britain has the sisters in the

:05:17.:05:20.

semi-final of the hundred metre hurdles. So, another great evening

:05:21.:05:26.

here in store, Jason, and it is still 30 degrees here as well. It is

:05:27.:05:30.

so still there is actually no wind in the air, so it is perfect for

:05:31.:05:35.

fast running. It is a good job Usain's coming later. Thank you very

:05:36.:05:38.

much indeed, and I would not want to be on the end of a Michael Johnson

:05:39.:05:43.

uppercut, with Atmos, as well, but we go back to the basketball and

:05:44.:05:49.

United States are taking on Argentina -- Atmos. Let's go back to

:05:50.:05:58.

our commentary team. Can we get things firing for the Argentines?

:05:59.:06:08.

Looking for the 3-pointer and it is not dropping for Argentina. Durant

:06:09.:06:17.

to Lowry, and they are winding down the shot clock, combining with

:06:18.:06:25.

Cousins and then he draws space for Lowry and he draws the foul with six

:06:26.:06:26.

left on the shot. It has been a physical encounter.

:06:27.:06:48.

Both teams are pushing each other. But it is all smiles for the United

:06:49.:06:51.

States right now because they are well on top here. Taking it out to

:06:52.:07:00.

Garu for three. They are not making their shots, Argentina -- Garudo.

:07:01.:07:09.

They are not looking lively. USA are completely dominating. Scola getting

:07:10.:07:19.

the rebound for Argentina. Rosen is on. You look at the United States

:07:20.:07:32.

banned, DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler contributing. What a

:07:33.:07:40.

performance from Cousins. He has dominated. Scola, speaking of which,

:07:41.:07:47.

puts it away and 26 is the margin here. I think the Argentina fans

:07:48.:07:53.

have gone quiet. This is quiet by their standards. So, Lowry, a

:07:54.:08:01.

piercing pass, Butler sets up the shot from Green that doesn't go.

:08:02.:08:12.

Argentina. A foul against Lowry. Fourth successful rebound off the

:08:13.:08:28.

board. He said they cry last time they lost in 2008. This one might

:08:29.:08:42.

end in tears as well. It is a looping pass to Green. And it is

:08:43.:08:49.

just too easy, the shot for Butler, and it rims out. Oh, snaffled away

:08:50.:09:04.

from Scola. So, 6.5 minutes to go and, as we get towards the business

:09:05.:09:09.

end of the tournament, silly as it sounds, it is certainly a confidence

:09:10.:09:15.

booster for the United States after a couple of performances that might

:09:16.:09:20.

be criticised. George charges in. Three-point play again. Well, before

:09:21.:09:28.

the game they have a serious look. There was a little bit of singing

:09:29.:09:33.

and dancing but not to the level we have seen previously for the United

:09:34.:09:37.

States. Now, they have loose end up, now they are playing the basketball

:09:38.:09:41.

everyone expected them to, they have dominated against a team that would

:09:42.:09:46.

once have been a medal contender, excellent stuff, great hands from

:09:47.:09:50.

George, and he has got a three-point play, and it almost was dropped in

:09:51.:09:54.

by Green. Argentina come up with Laprovittola. It is just getting

:09:55.:09:59.

difficult for him. What about the fans, getting in, down by 28, but

:10:00.:10:04.

they don't mind, they are here, they are enjoying themselves. They are

:10:05.:10:07.

indeed and the atmosphere has been unbelievable. This is what the

:10:08.:10:12.

Olympics is all about. No doubt about that, and these scenes, you

:10:13.:10:16.

don't see that often in a basketball arena like this, and Laprovittola

:10:17.:10:20.

charging down, he goes himself for three. And, as they fly, whistle on

:10:21.:10:31.

the play. So, we're out to a 28 point margin here. Green's first

:10:32.:10:46.

foul. George with three as well. Well, the only blight so far is

:10:47.:10:56.

Thomson hasn't fired for them as well, and getting into the final and

:10:57.:11:00.

semi-final they need points from everywhere, and maybe bringing him

:11:01.:11:03.

on to try to give him some confidence into the semi-final will

:11:04.:11:07.

provide that hang on here that we would expect them to and a shortlist

:11:08.:11:11.

from Argentina, in the thick of it, but they get a second show, kicked

:11:12.:11:17.

out by Laprovittola... -- Thompson. It is on for Argentina now, and the

:11:18.:11:22.

foul is called, it appears to be on Lowry. That will send Brussino to

:11:23.:11:35.

the line. It is looking comfortable for Argentina... For the Argentines

:11:36.:11:38.

as it might be looking comfortable, but it is looking comfortable for

:11:39.:11:42.

the United States. So, they're in fine voice, no doubt about that, and

:11:43.:11:51.

it is put away by Brussino. United States players look amazed, they've

:11:52.:11:54.

never seen anything like this in the stands before, especially when the

:11:55.:11:59.

team they're supporting is losing by so many. So, Lowry, he goes himself,

:12:00.:12:07.

charges down, transfers slapped away from Green, and he will go for two.

:12:08.:12:15.

These youngsters, against the best in the world, Irving and Anthony

:12:16.:12:21.

can't take their eyes off the fans. You should watch an Argentine

:12:22.:12:31.

football game while you are around. Green, never looked like going in on

:12:32.:12:37.

that occasion. That time he puts it away and it is now back out to 27.

:12:38.:12:47.

Just the look of the manager, it felt like Argentina really believe

:12:48.:12:51.

they had a chance against the United States. The basket going to

:12:52.:12:56.

Argentina but it is getting too far away from them, down at 25 points.

:12:57.:13:01.

Lowry going for three, Mrs pulling up short, but they started so well,

:13:02.:13:08.

Argentina, out by ten points, but the United States individuals and

:13:09.:13:11.

more of a team as well kicking into gear with Kevin Durant, a brilliant

:13:12.:13:14.

performance, and they're running away with this -- misses by three.

:13:15.:13:27.

Garido, driving to the hoop. -- Garino. It is a shame that the way

:13:28.:13:31.

things are going we won't see these Argentinian fans again. They have

:13:32.:13:36.

provided a great spectacle, as well as their team, throughout, and it is

:13:37.:13:40.

Green here for the United States. Partly under the arm, secondary

:13:41.:13:46.

tap... Just unable with that deft touch to get it in -- Tucks it under

:13:47.:13:52.

the arm. Charging down the court, the young man in Brussino, it

:13:53.:13:57.

doesn't fall for him, and talking about young men, it is DeRozan for

:13:58.:14:08.

the United States. They're getting louder as the game comes towards a

:14:09.:14:16.

crescendo, so 94- 71, timeout for the United States, and it'll be

:14:17.:14:25.

interesting to see if things are -- if they are going to get something

:14:26.:14:30.

out of this as they progress towards the semi-final stage.

:14:31.:15:32.

Four minutes left. The noise is unbelievable, it is like a rock

:15:33.:15:42.

concert in here at the moment. Oh, almost snaffled away by the United

:15:43.:15:47.

States. The blind pass was brilliant from Ginobili but the short doesn't

:15:48.:15:58.

go. Quick transfer of the ball here for the United States, and off the

:15:59.:16:05.

glass from Lowry. So, it's back to 25 as we wind it down here. Five

:16:06.:16:13.

points to Lowry for the match. It would have to be some kind of

:16:14.:16:17.

record, the final three and a half minutes for Argentina to get back

:16:18.:16:22.

into this one. It is not impossible, almost, but... LAUGHTER.

:16:23.:16:28.

You would need ten threes basically, which is very unlikely given what we

:16:29.:16:32.

have seen so far. You would have to come out with Michael's famous line,

:16:33.:16:38.

it is a miracle, and Scola's attempt for three doesn't go, and Lowry

:16:39.:16:44.

decides to return serve, but he misses as well, and it comes off the

:16:45.:16:51.

board. This time he brings it back with some help. It is difficult for

:16:52.:16:57.

Argentina to get going by they're getting some inspiration from the

:16:58.:16:59.

fans, look at them getting behind their team, trying to convince up in

:17:00.:17:04.

the last couple of minutes, United States, Kevin Durant having a rest,

:17:05.:17:08.

he has done his job and Ginobili brings it in for Scola with a

:17:09.:17:11.

combination that works so well and they draw the foul with three

:17:12.:17:13.

minutes left to go. . I think the fans are going to win

:17:14.:17:26.

the fan award. The gold medal for support. Sensational stuff, your

:17:27.:17:31.

team is down by 25 lines, it doesn't matter. Keep singing. They have

:17:32.:17:38.

really added something. They have witnessed a terrific team, too. The

:17:39.:17:42.

USA. We look forward to them progressing. Lewis: puts the extra

:17:43.:17:51.

on the board. We are back to 24. -- loose scholar. -- Luis Scola.

:17:52.:18:05.

Just inside, the shop for two doesn't go. On that occasion it was

:18:06.:18:13.

from Barnes. Some extra court time for some of these players. Ginobili

:18:14.:18:22.

comes in and draws the foul. Barnes has played the least amount for the

:18:23.:18:25.

US. When he comes on you know that they are doing very well. He has

:18:26.:18:29.

only played nine minutes so far per game. That is a symbol of what they

:18:30.:18:33.

have achieved in this game after only a narrow victory over

:18:34.:18:37.

Australia, a 3-point victory over Serbia and a 3-point victory over

:18:38.:18:41.

France. The USA silencing their critics, but they are being silenced

:18:42.:18:45.

by the Argentinian fans right now, because nothing can be heard apart

:18:46.:18:51.

from them. Manu Ginobili with the extra. The intensity has gone out of

:18:52.:18:58.

the workrate from the US, as you would expect, as well.

:18:59.:19:10.

Carlos Delfino to Scola. Delphine again. Showing some nice skills, but

:19:11.:19:28.

a rebound for Lowry. Back in the hands of the Rose, who is trying to

:19:29.:19:31.

milk the experience as much as he can.

:19:32.:19:41.

As they get to the century they lead by 27. Another 100 point game from

:19:42.:19:51.

the United States. They were looking a bit shaky when they could not get

:19:52.:19:56.

to 100 against Australia and Serbia, but they repeated the dose against

:19:57.:20:01.

France. What a performance. What a tournament from Manu Ginobili, he

:20:02.:20:06.

will be 43 in the next Olympics so this is probably his last one. A

:20:07.:20:11.

fantastic basketballer, getting a standing ovation as a player of his

:20:12.:20:17.

stature should. So well-known in Argentina. A bit of emotion coming

:20:18.:20:26.

through from the great man himself. Gold-medallist in 2004, as well,

:20:27.:20:30.

Manu Ginobili. Under the basket, doesn't go for the lot. -- for

:20:31.:20:41.

Butler. Slamdunk! On the other side, DeRozan says, don't cry for me,

:20:42.:20:45.

Argentina! And he puts it away. Extraordinary stuff from DeMar

:20:46.:20:51.

DeRozan. There is no slamdunk contest here but if there was he

:20:52.:20:54.

would win it. That was sensational. What a spectacle. I think Ginobili

:20:55.:20:59.

enjoy that on the inside, a little bit. Terrific stuff. The US has made

:21:00.:21:05.

the statements they wanted tonight. Rebound under the basket from the

:21:06.:21:15.

journey brings it down. -- from wondrous journey. -- from Andres

:21:16.:21:28.

Nocioni. Barnes, for three. He was never going to miss. Harrison Barnes

:21:29.:21:35.

with the 3-pointer, his first of this Olympic Games. He is getting

:21:36.:21:39.

minutes, he is getting baskets, Harrison Barnes.

:21:40.:21:44.

The sting has gone out of it. I think that is the end of the game,

:21:45.:21:53.

to be honest. So with the game clock now at 15, it has been a really

:21:54.:21:57.

entertaining match, even though the score blew out and the US were home

:21:58.:22:02.

and hose. Gee, we have seen some highlights. It is the United States

:22:03.:22:12.

back, I wouldn't say bigger and I wouldn't say that, but they are

:22:13.:22:21.

where they belong. Heading into the semifinals, and short priced

:22:22.:22:25.

favourites for a gold medal again. The Argentina fans have been

:22:26.:22:28.

remarkable. They have lacked their side this whole Olympic Games. --

:22:29.:22:39.

backed. This might be Argentina's Manu Ginobili's last ever Olympic

:22:40.:22:43.

appearance. You would not expect him to be around in another four years.

:22:44.:22:49.

He knows so many of these NBA stars and coaches from the United States

:22:50.:22:53.

team, they are saluting the legend. In the end, it is the United States

:22:54.:23:00.

105, Argentina 78. The US safely through to the

:23:01.:23:03.

semifinals, wondering if that victory is enough to silence some of

:23:04.:23:06.

the critics that have emerged in the American press over the past few

:23:07.:23:10.

days or so. Incredible noise from the Argentinian fans. They have

:23:11.:23:14.

travelled in their numbers to watch all their heroes in various sports,

:23:15.:23:18.

but what a noise inside the Carioca Arena one this evening. Argentina

:23:19.:23:25.

out bubbly basketball, the US through. Let's bring you up-to-date

:23:26.:23:29.

with what has been happening in the basketball all day today. In the

:23:30.:23:33.

first man's quarter-final Australia took on Lithuania. Australia's

:23:34.:23:40.

Boomers have never won a gold medal in men's basketball. But when you

:23:41.:23:43.

has won several bronzes. Australia are through. Croatia take on Serbia

:23:44.:23:48.

shortly. It will keep you up-to-date with that one when that starts.

:23:49.:23:54.

Spain beat France by 92- 67. Spain, silver-medallists at the last two

:23:55.:23:59.

Games. And as we have just seen, the US beating Argentina 105-78. Let's

:24:00.:24:05.

bring you up-to-date with all of today's headlines.

:24:06.:24:10.

No doubt the story of the day, Great Britain's women reach their first

:24:11.:24:17.

ever hockey final with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over New

:24:18.:24:21.

Zealand. Team GB guaranteed to improve on that 2012 bronze medal

:24:22.:24:25.

when they go for gold in Friday's final against the Netherlands. We

:24:26.:24:30.

had been hoping to celebrate Team GB's 20th gold medal earlier today,

:24:31.:24:34.

but calm conditions in the sailing match that Saskia Clark and Hannah

:24:35.:24:38.

Mills must wait another day to seal the Olympic title in the women's 470

:24:39.:24:45.

class. The velodrome might have shut its doors, but the Team GB cycling

:24:46.:24:51.

medal hunt is not over yet. Written's former world champion Liam

:24:52.:24:54.

Phillips was the 10th fastest in the BMX Time trial today, an event which

:24:55.:24:59.

determine seedings that Thursday's quarter-finals. In badminton, Rajib

:25:00.:25:07.

Yousef, the first British man to reach analytic singles

:25:08.:25:09.

quarter-final, lost his last eight contest against Denmark. Straight

:25:10.:25:23.

sets loss. London 2012 runs medallist Liam Heath and Jon

:25:24.:25:26.

Schofield Wombarra K to 200 metres Canoe Sprint semi-final to

:25:27.:25:29.

comfortably progressed to Thursday's final. -- London 2012 bronze

:25:30.:25:37.

medallists. Ten metre platform diver Tonia Couch also enjoyed a good day

:25:38.:25:41.

at the office, qualifying for Thursday's semi-final. Teammate

:25:42.:25:44.

Sarah Barrow was eliminated, however. And the women's Ulf got

:25:45.:25:56.

under way today, with written's Charley Hull finishing with a three

:25:57.:26:00.

under par 68 to lie three shots off the lead after day one. Teammate

:26:01.:26:04.

Katrina Matthew had a level par round. So we will be going to the

:26:05.:26:10.

track and field and Gaby shortly, but we will bring you up-to-date

:26:11.:26:13.

with what has been happening in boxing. We are reaching the business

:26:14.:26:17.

end of the competition. We will show you what has been happening in the

:26:18.:26:20.

middleweight between Savannah Marshall of Team GB taking on the

:26:21.:26:25.

Netherlands. We will pick this one up in the second four rounds.

:26:26.:26:38.

COMMENTATOR: Into the second round, Savannah Marshall the two-time

:26:39.:26:40.

Olympian starts the second round at terrific that by landing a right

:26:41.:26:54.

hand. A terrific exchange to begin round number two. Hitting the

:26:55.:27:03.

target, looking strong on the forward foot. Marshal, on that front

:27:04.:27:18.

foot, that is a nice jab going forward. She needs to switch

:27:19.:27:33.

downstairs occasionally, with the right hand to the body. That is

:27:34.:27:37.

better. This is a much better start from Marshall. Got to keep it going.

:27:38.:27:45.

Setting things up well with the jab before the boxers fall into a

:27:46.:27:49.

clinch. Marshall entered London 2012 as her first Olympic Games, that was

:27:50.:27:55.

some four years ago. Some had adjustment will be needed to be

:27:56.:27:58.

strapped on the Red Hat guard of Savannah Marshall. Four years ago at

:27:59.:28:03.

London she entered as the world reigning champion. She is still the

:28:04.:28:08.

only woman in history to have inflicted defeat on Claressa

:28:09.:28:14.

Shields. She steps back into the mix after that brief interlude,

:28:15.:28:18.

Marshall. She is not a person who particularly enjoyed the spotlight.

:28:19.:28:23.

She has been dubbed by the media as the" Silence Assassin". -- silent.

:28:24.:28:35.

Nouchka Fontijn not panicking, but she is getting beaten in this round.

:28:36.:28:38.

This is a much better around from Savannah Marshall. The double jab

:28:39.:28:44.

coming into effect. Good work by the British boxer. She is responding

:28:45.:28:47.

well in this first round, from losing that first. Let's see if we

:28:48.:28:52.

can listen in to her coach inside the ropes. You have got to get hold

:28:53.:29:01.

of her. Get some more space, throw her a little bit. Good girl.

:29:02.:29:11.

(INAUDIBLE). She only gets one score. That is very unlucky, I

:29:12.:29:15.

thought. I thought she had a good round there. Into the second half of

:29:16.:29:24.

the contest. It is all square, one round apiece.

:29:25.:29:34.

Nouchka Fontijn, the tournament number two seed, is leading by two

:29:35.:29:41.

points, 18- 22. But Marshall is in in spy of mood here. -- in inspired

:29:42.:29:56.

mood. She has got to switch to the body, Savannah Marshall. It is all

:29:57.:30:00.

had work. She needs to nip downstairs with a right hand to the

:30:01.:30:04.

body and finish up with the left hand to be had. She is positive

:30:05.:30:08.

coming forward, but it is a bit predict the ball out. Nouchka

:30:09.:30:11.

Fontijn is bringing her onto some shots. That is why she has to mix it

:30:12.:30:19.

up and work downstairs better. We mentioned that going into London

:30:20.:30:22.

2012 she was the reigning world champion. Savannah Marshall comes

:30:23.:30:30.

into this as the reigning world champion bronze medallist, from her

:30:31.:30:33.

second Olympic campaign. A little bit under the radar, because all of

:30:34.:30:37.

the spotlight that was on Savannah Marshall before London has been

:30:38.:30:41.

transferred to Claressa Shields. Plenty of talk about that long

:30:42.:30:43.

winning streak she has been on. pace a little bit here. Marshall's

:30:44.:30:52.

coming on strong. She is feeling the pace, most

:30:53.:31:03.

definitely, so Marshall's. To keep it going. That is a classic 1-2. She

:31:04.:31:14.

is breathing through an open mouth. It is the first bout of the

:31:15.:31:20.

tournament after a bye in the opening round. Throughout the course

:31:21.:31:26.

of the tournament, that can work against you coming in with ring rust

:31:27.:31:34.

rather than being rested. Those scores are the most important.

:31:35.:31:53.

Fontun... Into the fourth and final round and that is a jolting left jab

:31:54.:32:00.

from Marshall, coming out in spirited fashion. He needs her to

:32:01.:32:08.

three lots of shots, recognising this, and Marshall is throwing out

:32:09.:32:12.

instructions, because she has come out blazing to begin this fourth and

:32:13.:32:23.

final round. She needs a massive round here, Marshall, trailing by

:32:24.:32:29.

three points for judges A and C. In all reality she needs to force a

:32:30.:32:36.

stoppage. You have got to give her ten out of ten for effort here. She

:32:37.:32:43.

keeps on coming. She has to find the quality shots. She needs somehow or

:32:44.:32:51.

punches, Marshall, but I think she has been very unlucky with some of

:32:52.:32:55.

the scores. Nevertheless, just less than a minute. Can she do it? She is

:32:56.:33:02.

really going for it now, Marshall, all credit to her. Jolting left jab

:33:03.:33:10.

again from Marshall. Fontun, fighting on courage and pride and

:33:11.:33:15.

instinct, because she appears to be running out of energy. Look at the

:33:16.:33:20.

way she is losing her energy when the athletes come together. And

:33:21.:33:25.

still looking to work the way both up and down stairs, Marshall. Not

:33:26.:33:29.

giving up despite the clock not on her side. Onto the front once more,

:33:30.:33:36.

unrelenting, trying to walk down her opponent, with Fontun intelligently

:33:37.:33:42.

tying up her opponent. A good hand from Marshall, and another, and

:33:43.:33:49.

Fontun makes distance, before wrapping her up. And what a spirited

:33:50.:33:54.

display. There can be little doubt that given the status of the

:33:55.:33:57.

scorecards in the final round, it will be Fontun, the tournament

:33:58.:34:04.

number two seed, reigning World Championship silver-medallist who

:34:05.:34:10.

will go through to the final four, but Savannah Marshall gave it

:34:11.:34:12.

everything, and when you consider the manner in which she has

:34:13.:34:18.

acquitted herself, compared to her first Olympic appearance four years

:34:19.:34:22.

ago when she was to spirited my deflated, and didn't perform at all,

:34:23.:34:26.

well, this has been a road to redemption for Marshall. Not the

:34:27.:34:30.

result she would have wanted but the manner in which she has acquitted

:34:31.:34:43.

herself is very impressive indeed. So, Fontun, tournament number two

:34:44.:34:47.

seed and reigning World Championship silver-medallist, gets the victory,

:34:48.:34:53.

a split decision victory over her familiar rival, Marshall, and she

:34:54.:34:56.

goes through to the middle stages in the final four but immense credit

:34:57.:35:01.

should be put in the direction of Marshall, because she did very well

:35:02.:35:04.

indeed, she fought with everything she had, she has conceded a split

:35:05.:35:09.

decision but she has laid to rest the ghost of London 2012. STUDIO:

:35:10.:35:18.

Yes, great stuff, and Shields has passed the Russian, the USA Marshall

:35:19.:35:25.

not lost with Marshall who beat her before the 2012 Olympics, and she

:35:26.:35:30.

faces the Kaz at Stony Shakimova in the semifinals -- Shakimova from

:35:31.:35:39.

Kazakhstan. If you want some BBC for action right now, table tennis is

:35:40.:35:44.

ongoing in the men's team final with China taking on Japan, Japan with

:35:45.:35:49.

the lead. Red button free view. If you have that, live tae kwon do and

:35:50.:35:53.

we will show you highlights of that later he on BBC One. Lots of

:35:54.:36:00.

fantastic sport available for you right across the BBC, but right now

:36:01.:36:06.

here on BBC One it is time to join our special forces at the Olympic

:36:07.:36:07.

Stadium. Goodbye for now. LAUGHTER.

:36:08.:37:03.

That is brilliant. And there he is in his regular skivvies, not in his

:37:04.:37:13.

combat clothes. There was a complaint from the Cotter family

:37:14.:37:17.

that he hadn't been included, and we felt it was very unfair that he

:37:18.:37:21.

wasn't in that first VT. I hope you are pleased with that, Andrew, and

:37:22.:37:24.

we have worked out that everyone in the team apart from me hasn't aged,

:37:25.:37:29.

which is unfair at all. We didn't quite say that, they remain

:37:30.:37:33.

nameless. Under the name of Brendan, I was like, who was that? LAUGHTER.

:37:34.:37:41.

He was a fine young runner. He was. Let's head on and show you what's

:37:42.:37:45.

coming up in this feast of athletics here tonight. Well, it is all about

:37:46.:37:52.

the women first up on the track, and the men's javelin decathlon, sorry,

:37:53.:37:58.

the men's javelin qualification is going, the decathlon is ongoing, and

:37:59.:38:04.

the 100 metre hurdles semifinals, featuring two British women and the

:38:05.:38:09.

women's long jump also have two British women. And the decathlon,

:38:10.:38:20.

the final event of the night. And the 45 second leader runner in the

:38:21.:38:23.

lead at the moment, looking to carry that on the overnight. And then at

:38:24.:38:30.

two o'clock the men's 200 metres semifinals, featuring Usain Bolt and

:38:31.:38:37.

three Rikishi men, Danny Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake as well --

:38:38.:38:41.

British. And the women's 200 metre final featuring Elaine Thompson at

:38:42.:38:48.

2:30am. And then the women who qualify for that hundred metres

:38:49.:38:53.

hurdle go again at 2:55am, but I imagine many of you will focus a lot

:38:54.:38:57.

on just after two o'clock in the morning when all eyes will be on a

:38:58.:39:06.

certain to hundred metres sprinter -- 200 metres sprinter. Usain Bolt

:39:07.:39:11.

lives and breathes Olympic titles, gathering them up as though they

:39:12.:39:15.

were daisies in a field. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

:39:16.:39:23.

This is his arena, this is his stage. Attempting to become the

:39:24.:39:33.

first athlete to achieve three gold medals in the same event, competing

:39:34.:39:37.

at a level which no one has done before, look at the impact it has

:39:38.:39:40.

here and look at the impact it has around the world. Getting ready to

:39:41.:39:45.

rumble in Rio. The Olympic 100 metres final. And Gatlin gets away

:39:46.:39:54.

well. It is Gatlin leading. Gatlin is charging. Here comes Usain Bolt

:39:55.:39:58.

and Usain Bolt is going to take it. Usain Bolt gets it! 9.80. A

:39:59.:40:05.

magnificent run! The Odyssey continues! Listen to the noise in

:40:06.:40:19.

Rio de Janeiro! Listen to the adulation! Look at this man.

:40:20.:40:28.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. The triple triple is on.

:40:29.:40:35.

And it also helps explain why this stadium is about as full as it has

:40:36.:40:41.

been midweek, certainly, because they absolutely adore him here and

:40:42.:40:45.

the atmosphere has already begun to build. The temperatures is still 30

:40:46.:40:49.

degrees, beautiful for sprinters, not so good if you are sitting under

:40:50.:40:53.

the lights of a TV screen, but we shall not complain, and let's talk

:40:54.:40:57.

about Usain Bolt, was he playing with the press after the 100 metres,

:40:58.:41:01.

he said if the heat was far apart he said he could go for the world

:41:02.:41:05.

record. He said to you earlier in the summer that he would not go for

:41:06.:41:09.

it in the 200. There is a gap between the world record and sub 19

:41:10.:41:14.

and he said he didn't think he could accomplish the sub 19 any more.

:41:15.:41:20.

There is 19 hundreds of a second between that. Maybe he feels he can

:41:21.:41:24.

do that and maybe it is because, here is the mystery, his training

:41:25.:41:28.

has been going so well over the summer between that time that he got

:41:29.:41:32.

the injury at the Jamaican championships and the Anniversary

:41:33.:41:34.

Games and then from the Anniversary Games to now, so we don't know

:41:35.:41:39.

what's been going on, so that is the mystery. Earlier, Michael said that

:41:40.:41:46.

out of three British men, Nathaniel Blake has the best chance, and he is

:41:47.:41:50.

six on the all-time list this year, he has run 19.95, so would you agree

:41:51.:41:58.

with that? I think based on his Collegiate experience, yes, weekly

:41:59.:42:01.

spoke about earlier in the week. I still feel that the edge for me is

:42:02.:42:14.

to merely Jamely. That would be my call and I -- and don't forget we

:42:15.:42:25.

have two British men coming on. Before we get to that, Steve has

:42:26.:42:32.

some breaking news this evening. Yes, anyone who was with us earlier

:42:33.:42:36.

on today would have enjoyed an enthralling steeplechase final. A

:42:37.:42:45.

major title, finally, for this talent, and silver for the USA. The

:42:46.:42:55.

defending champion as -- has crossed in third place. He announced

:42:56.:42:59.

retirement from the sport. A fitting finale. However, the French

:43:00.:43:05.

protested one hour after the race. After a lot of scrutiny, and you can

:43:06.:43:15.

see Mekhissi-Benabbad, he puts one foot over the line between the cones

:43:16.:43:22.

I think perhaps to hold his balance. Watch this, and Benabbad is behind

:43:23.:43:32.

him, possibly sees this, one foot out, that is his left foot, his

:43:33.:43:36.

right foot comes back in the line and that has been upheld by the jury

:43:37.:43:45.

of appeal, so he has been disqualified and the bronze medal

:43:46.:43:50.

goes to Mekhissi-Benabbad, and in my view, we are astonished at that

:43:51.:44:00.

decision. And given how far Kemboi was ahead, and it was one foot that

:44:01.:44:09.

has now meant that he is the -- disqualified. And as I said, I think

:44:10.:44:16.

it was harsh from the jury of appeal.

:44:17.:44:25.

So, the first semi-final of the women's 100 metres hurdles, and

:44:26.:44:30.

Tiffany Porter for Great Britain. She has never made an Olympic final.

:44:31.:44:43.

She has a bronze medal. Fourth and fifth at the World Championships

:44:44.:44:48.

before that. And Beijing last year, just not quite in the kind of form

:44:49.:44:52.

that took to those major championship finals. And that bronze

:44:53.:45:03.

medal. And Williams, her sister, Danielle, won. She didn't finish in

:45:04.:45:09.

the Jamaican trials. The Croatian, 31, with huge improvements last

:45:10.:45:16.

year, taking half a second in her PBs. And Tiffany Porter to chants of

:45:17.:45:28.

a second off her PB -- tenths of a second off. A surprise silver at the

:45:29.:45:34.

World Championships, the new European champion and a very decent

:45:35.:45:39.

heptathlete as well, but specialising in the hurdles. And

:45:40.:45:47.

Talay, bronze in Beijing, former European champion, in a back dated

:45:48.:46:00.

bronze following a drugs cheat. And I think favourite for the overall

:46:01.:46:05.

gold in the absence of Harrison, she has pushed her close as all this

:46:06.:46:08.

season, Rollins, and Harrison fell victim at the US trials. Gomis

:46:09.:46:16.

France, with a personal best of 12.79, second to Cindy at the French

:46:17.:46:24.

championships. And Seymour of the Bahamas, lowering the Bahamas record

:46:25.:46:31.

four times this season. So, the first of three semifinals and it

:46:32.:46:36.

will be the first two who go through automatically, and the next two

:46:37.:46:39.

fastest losers only to the final, which takes place in just over two

:46:40.:46:41.

hours' time. Tiffany Porter needs something,

:46:42.:46:53.

because she is not running the times at the moment that are quite quick

:46:54.:46:56.

enough to see her into the final, you suspect. So many variables, so

:46:57.:47:02.

many things can happen in hurdles. It is humid and still, not a breath

:47:03.:47:13.

of wind today in Rio. First semi-final in the women's 100 metres

:47:14.:47:15.

hurdles. Porter raced to the first barrier,

:47:16.:47:29.

she is running hard. Cindy Roleder trying to get alongside her. Alina

:47:30.:47:36.

Talay has gone, but Porter fades as well. Pedrya Seymour coming through

:47:37.:47:46.

late for the Bahamas, 12.4 rate, just an indicator of what Rowlands

:47:47.:47:53.

can do. -- 12.40 eight. That is not really a surprise, she got out so

:47:54.:47:58.

well but has been fading of late. Pedrya Seymour rock the Bahamas, we

:47:59.:48:04.

talked about her lowering the bohemian record over and over again

:48:05.:48:10.

this season -- Bahamian record. A great run for her. But for Tiffany

:48:11.:48:18.

Porter, not quite good enough. Not this time, unfortunately, for

:48:19.:48:22.

Tiffany. But Riana Rowlands -- Brianna Rollins takes hold of this

:48:23.:48:30.

field. Once she gets that lead it is difficult for anybody to close her

:48:31.:48:35.

down. It matches her name, she has this rolling technique. She loses

:48:36.:48:41.

herself over these barriers. A unique technique for women, but so

:48:42.:48:46.

effective. Tiffany did get out very well, just at the back end. She has

:48:47.:48:51.

a basic hip problem, actually, which means that at the back end of the

:48:52.:48:54.

race she fatigues more than necessary. Unfortunately for her,

:48:55.:48:59.

this is what she suffers from. So when lots of times people criticise

:49:00.:49:03.

her, saying that she does not do enough technical work or technical

:49:04.:49:06.

endurance work, it is just the fact that it is just her, unfortunately.

:49:07.:49:12.

She gets out well and when she is working she is really swift over

:49:13.:49:16.

this part of the race. She has to work with trailing her leg through

:49:17.:49:20.

all the time. It is this stage, when the technical fatigue sets in, and

:49:21.:49:23.

her actual body lets her down slightly. It is nothing to do with

:49:24.:49:28.

work at all. It is just her physiology, unfortunately. Worksite,

:49:29.:49:34.

still keep striving, still keeps pushing to the end. -- works hard.

:49:35.:49:42.

She is a fighter. But not this time. Those are the kinds of times that

:49:43.:49:46.

she has been running all season, they are not good enough to get

:49:47.:49:50.

through. A big national record again for Pedrya Seymour from the Bahamas.

:49:51.:49:55.

A fifth national record this season for her, to see her through. Tiffany

:49:56.:50:00.

Porter speaking to Philip. Well, these are always the most difficult

:50:01.:50:04.

interviews to do, Vickers Tiffany wanted so much more and expected so

:50:05.:50:09.

much more, but it was not to be? -- because Tiffany wanted. Yes,

:50:10.:50:13.

obviously I did not plan for that to happen. I don't know what to say.

:50:14.:50:17.

You had a fast reaction time. Was there something that did not work

:50:18.:50:22.

for you? I think I just panicked. I needed to just relax. But, I mean,

:50:23.:50:27.

it is over now. I do not know if that will be good enough to get me

:50:28.:50:31.

to the final. What were you saying to yourself on the starting line? I

:50:32.:50:36.

had to tell myself to relax, which I didn't do. Obviously I am

:50:37.:50:40.

disappointed. I hope it is enough and I hope my sister makes it to the

:50:41.:50:44.

final. Thank you for stopping on talking. We know you are

:50:45.:50:47.

disappointed. Well, she had the faster start. She did. We have come

:50:48.:50:57.

to expect that from Tiffany. But like she said, technically, towards

:50:58.:51:01.

the end of the race, it is just not good enough, unfortunately. Whether

:51:02.:51:05.

that is physiological or not, unfortunately for Tiffany, it was

:51:06.:51:08.

not meant to be. It has not been a vintage year for her. That is fair

:51:09.:51:14.

to say. I still would have expected her to get through. She has proved

:51:15.:51:18.

time and time again that she is able to get into finals. She will be

:51:19.:51:23.

bitterly, bitterly disappointed with that performance. Yes, that bronze

:51:24.:51:28.

medal in the World Championships was a real indicator of way she could go

:51:29.:51:33.

in the sport. Since then, things have not always come together. Last

:51:34.:51:39.

year in Beijing did not come together either. Yes, in debating

:51:40.:51:44.

Championships she literally clipped the final hurdles when she was

:51:45.:51:47.

almost in a medal winning position. Schmidt in the ageing championships.

:51:48.:51:56.

-- in the Beijing Championships. It doesn't matter what your form is

:51:57.:51:59.

like, you hit a hurdle and things can change.

:52:00.:52:04.

These semifinals are always nervous, even for the best. Nia Ali will be

:52:05.:52:10.

hoping she can settle her nerves. She will be the standout here.

:52:11.:52:17.

Plenty of others to look out for. A letter below by Moosomin, from

:52:18.:52:26.

Nigeria. Nadine Hildebrand of Germany. She is in lane four.

:52:27.:52:40.

Anybody could come second here, too Nia Ali. And I am saying that,

:52:41.:52:46.

coming second, because she should win this. Definitely should win

:52:47.:52:51.

this. A great year for her. Only third at the American trials. Such

:52:52.:52:59.

talent they have in this event. And the one they have left, Kenny

:53:00.:53:02.

Harrison, the new world record holder. Phylicia George of Canada in

:53:03.:53:06.

lane six. And another 19-year-old running fault E -- running for the

:53:07.:53:19.

E, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. -- Puerto Rico. Nooralotta Neziri of Finland,

:53:20.:53:30.

in lane eight. And then the Keisha Wilson, the much more experienced

:53:31.:53:38.

athlete, 30 years of age. -- Nick Esher Wilson. Everything tells us

:53:39.:53:53.

that Nia Ali wins it. Here is a 19-year-old who will want to chase

:53:54.:53:56.

it home, Camacho-Quinn. She competed in the American trials and reached

:53:57.:54:01.

the semifinals, but as I said, she is now competing for Puerto Rico.

:54:02.:54:06.

Still learning her craft, Camacho-Quinn. Watch out for Toby

:54:07.:54:15.

and a son of Nigeria in lane three. -- watch out for Amusan of Nigeria.

:54:16.:54:30.

Phylicia George of Canada as well. Nia Ali gets a good start, so does

:54:31.:54:35.

Hildebrand alongside her. Camacho-Quinn has a chance here.

:54:36.:54:39.

Camacho-Quinn coming through. Hits the hurdle! Nia Ali and Phylicia

:54:40.:54:47.

George. What a shame, what a real shame. That was going to be the race

:54:48.:54:54.

of her life. The 19-year-old was pushing all the way. Maybe that is

:54:55.:54:58.

why she hit the hurdle. Near Arlie got out well. She looked so calm,

:54:59.:55:08.

really calm. Well, she is 19. She will have more opportunities. But

:55:09.:55:12.

goodness me, she was right amongst it. She was absolutely rolling,

:55:13.:55:17.

Steve. But she is devastated. Look out about. This is what the Olympic

:55:18.:55:23.

Games means to her. And as well, when you are in great shape, your

:55:24.:55:26.

training partner is in wonderful shape, it was a bit of a signal.

:55:27.:55:32.

Watch this. She captures that trail leg and then goes into it with her

:55:33.:55:36.

lead, and it is all over. Once you have all of your force going forward

:55:37.:55:40.

that way there is not much you can do. It was the hurdle before that

:55:41.:55:44.

that caused her to be short of that barrier, and then to stand on it.

:55:45.:55:51.

Devastating for her. She is still learning her craft. She didn't

:55:52.:55:55.

compete at all last year. She only started this seriously in 2013 and

:55:56.:56:01.

2014. She is only 19. Somebody should say to her, that was

:56:02.:56:05.

brilliant, up to that point. She has got to believe in herself. No doubt,

:56:06.:56:09.

remember, you mentioned that she is training with the world record

:56:10.:56:12.

holder in this event. She will definitely be able to consult her.

:56:13.:56:18.

Where she is going to get that improvement is from getting a faster

:56:19.:56:22.

start. It is that hurdle but she clips with her trail leg, which

:56:23.:56:25.

causes the problem with the lead leg. The race then goes completely

:56:26.:56:32.

away from her. Nia Ali moves away to take the victory comfortably. Look

:56:33.:56:36.

at that expression. You have to feel for the young woman. Nia Ali, nice,

:56:37.:56:42.

cool and calm, focusing on the barrier. The cashier 's aggressive

:56:43.:56:46.

off the barrier all the time. She pulls that trail leg through

:56:47.:56:49.

actively, the most important thing. Runs off the barrier well. Yes, very

:56:50.:56:56.

good stuff from Nia Ali. But all of that drama means at the moment,

:56:57.:57:02.

Tiffany Porter is still in a provocation position, hanging on to

:57:03.:57:11.

that second fastest spot of 12.82. Well, I bet Tiffany Porter did not

:57:12.:57:16.

expect that. 12 point 91 was the third place in that race. She has to

:57:17.:57:20.

take some deep breaths and hope that her sister will go through

:57:21.:57:24.

automatically, because I am sure she will want her sister to go through,

:57:25.:57:27.

and that the third fastest in this race is not as fast as her. There is

:57:28.:57:32.

Cindy Ofili. She has run quicker than Tiffany this season. Arguably

:57:33.:57:35.

in better shape, would you say? Definitely. 12 point 66 is her best

:57:36.:57:42.

at the moment. She has just come into her own. I am not sure whether

:57:43.:57:47.

they actually train together, but I have seen some pictures on social

:57:48.:57:51.

media. You can see Tiffany pacing up and down there. Tiffany is a very

:57:52.:57:56.

religious person, she will be praying right now. She will have to

:57:57.:58:01.

pray hard. It is agony, I can't begin to tell you what that feels

:58:02.:58:06.

like. Last night we had Dina Asher-Smith scraped through as the

:58:07.:58:09.

fastest loser, we had a lead oil as well. It is not impossible. No, and

:58:10.:58:14.

I don't know if this next heat will be the fastest of the three, either.

:58:15.:58:20.

The faster athletes were in the last two hits. We will see. Obviously you

:58:21.:58:25.

have to get in there and finish top two, and hope that those other two

:58:26.:58:32.

times will be slower, for Tiffany to get in. It is a little bit of a bad

:58:33.:58:38.

situation, that Cindy and Tiffany could both the competing for the

:58:39.:58:42.

final spot. You could have that sort of scenario which could be

:58:43.:58:48.

interesting to see. It could be, but you know what, Tiffany will be so

:58:49.:58:51.

delighted if her sister gets through. They are so close, such a

:58:52.:58:57.

strong bond. They train together sometimes, they are so tight. We

:58:58.:59:02.

have talked about that family atmosphere this year with her

:59:03.:59:04.

husband also competing in the 110 hurdles. She is pacing like an

:59:05.:59:11.

expectant father, waiting and waiting to see what could be

:59:12.:59:15.

delivered in this, the final of the semi-final heats. Andrew Cotter?

:59:16.:59:20.

As Michael said, it is not the strongest of the three semifinals. A

:59:21.:59:27.

decent lineup here for Cindy Ofili. While Tiffany Porter continues to

:59:28.:59:30.

place, we will bring you the result from the last semi-final. Yes, just

:59:31.:59:34.

to confirm that, Oluwatobiloba Amusan was not quick enough in third

:59:35.:59:38.

place, the other 19 you rolled. That would have been so different if

:59:39.:59:41.

Camacho-Quinn had stayed on her feet. Here is the starting lineup

:59:42.:59:49.

for the last of the semifinals. Kristi Castlin is the in form

:59:50.:59:59.

athlete here. Cindy Ofili is in lane six.

:00:00.:00:06.

The younger sister, who deliberately never attempted to run for the US.

:00:07.:00:10.

Her mother Lillian was born in London. Runner-up to her older

:00:11.:00:16.

sister at the UK Championships by a fraction, but as we have been

:00:17.:00:19.

talking about, she has slightly quicker times this season. Wearing

:00:20.:00:28.

out a groove on the top level of the stands. Whoever finishes first, when

:00:29.:00:35.

they do race together, they always stay to watch. Cindy below, the

:00:36.:00:38.

French champion and recordholder. Not running the kinds of times she

:00:39.:00:44.

was a year ago. She is in lane two. Always wears tape on her fingers,

:00:45.:00:48.

she is actually allergic to the surface of the track. Nikkita Holder

:00:49.:00:54.

smack into the semi-final. 12 point 92 in the first round for the

:00:55.:00:58.

Canadian. Made the world final back in 2011 in South Korea. There is

:00:59.:01:07.

Kristi Castlin. What a great strength the US has always had in

:01:08.:01:13.

this event. It actually has the top seven times in the world this year,

:01:14.:01:16.

we have talked about that at great length. Kenny Harrison is not here,

:01:17.:01:20.

the new world record holder, she missed out on the trials. Anne

:01:21.:01:25.

Zagre, the Belgian recordholder. She is in lane five. And there is Cindy

:01:26.:01:29.

Ofili. The US Collegiate champion. Running

:01:30.:01:43.

here at the Olympics for Great Britain. And Megan Simmonds, 12.79,

:01:44.:01:53.

personal best this year. Speaking of which, personal best this season,

:01:54.:02:08.

12.85 four Dutkiewicz. And in Lane nine, Pederson of Norway with her

:02:09.:02:12.

personal best in the first round of 12.8 six. None of them, Kristi

:02:13.:02:21.

Castlin is 4.6, but there are not many blistering times. -- 12.6. It

:02:22.:02:27.

is certainly a heat that Ofili can go through from, and maybe her

:02:28.:02:35.

sister, Tiffany Porter, pacing and muttering and watching her younger

:02:36.:02:42.

sister. She goes in lane six here, the last of the semifinals. The

:02:43.:02:48.

final takes place in just under two hours' time now. So, Ofili,

:02:49.:03:08.

Simmonds, Dutkiewicz and Pederson. Set. It was a good, clean start from

:03:09.:03:14.

Ofili. The Jamaican, Simmonds, going well. Ofili is coming back. It is

:03:15.:03:24.

the American, Castlin, and Ofili. I think Nikkita Holder took a fall.

:03:25.:03:30.

4.6 four. There was a gap back to third. We are watching the time is

:03:31.:03:39.

coming in -- 12.64. Her younger sister is through with 12.71, and I

:03:40.:03:47.

think she might be all right. Famous last words, of course, and Tiffany

:03:48.:03:51.

Porter is through to the final. All is well and right with the world.

:03:52.:03:56.

She and her younger sister are both through to the final of the women's

:03:57.:04:01.

hundred metre hurdles. What was the worry about? I don't know. I was

:04:02.:04:08.

watching Steve's phase. But no, there was a lot of mess going on --

:04:09.:04:14.

face. Look at the clashes and collisions. People falling over.

:04:15.:04:20.

People drop. Look. You miss all of that because everything else was

:04:21.:04:23.

happening out front. And I think a lot of the athletes are having

:04:24.:04:27.

problems with the track, because it is a very hard track, which makes it

:04:28.:04:32.

fast indeed, and that is why they are struggling, because you get

:04:33.:04:35.

thrown onto the hurdle and if you make a mistake it seems catastrophic

:04:36.:04:38.

and we have seen this in the men's and women's events. That is what

:04:39.:04:42.

happened to the Jamaican, Megan Simmonds, she was out of short but

:04:43.:04:47.

she was in prime position and then she was knocked back by the

:04:48.:04:51.

barriers. And that is the reason why we have not seen some of the fastest

:04:52.:04:56.

times. We have certainly seen an active race, that is for sure.

:04:57.:05:05.

Castlin, of course, we expect to go through, but what a run by Cindy and

:05:06.:05:11.

12.71 is good. Reaction from Ofili at she goes through, and looking for

:05:12.:05:18.

the time, yes, I have worked to do, leave me alone, I am busy. She is

:05:19.:05:22.

off to go and warm down and then walk up again because of the final

:05:23.:05:26.

in a couple of hours, and then boats it sisters will be in the final --

:05:27.:05:31.

and then both sisters. And Cindy Ofili is talking to fill. Well,

:05:32.:05:36.

Cindy, well done, through to the semi-final. Tell me about the race.

:05:37.:05:42.

I didn't have the best start but I am excited for the final. You must

:05:43.:05:46.

have been pleased that you lived up to the pressure. Yes, for sure. I am

:05:47.:05:51.

happy with it. And your sister has made it as well. You are both

:05:52.:05:57.

through. I am so happy. Can you tell us what it means for the family,

:05:58.:06:01.

both of you in the final in a couple of hours? It is amazing. Enjoy the

:06:02.:06:06.

occasion. I wish you all the best. Thank you so much. STUDIO: That was

:06:07.:06:20.

never a foregone conclusion. It was a very competitive field. Lots can

:06:21.:06:24.

go wrong. Fantastic to have both sisters in the final. It will take

:06:25.:06:29.

place at the end of the session this evening. I am delighted for them

:06:30.:06:34.

both. And the job is that she has to go and resettle. That nervous energy

:06:35.:06:40.

she has expended to prepare for that final. She have to go and sit down,

:06:41.:06:46.

calm down and think about the race, where things went wrong, she got out

:06:47.:06:51.

really well, just holding the form. Let's look at her race and what she

:06:52.:06:54.

have to do to to correct the things that might improve a couple of

:06:55.:07:01.

hundreds or the second. We know that Tiffany is a really good start at --

:07:02.:07:13.

a couple of hundredths of a second. It was about keeping the technique

:07:14.:07:18.

together. We know the end of a race is not her strength, but when she

:07:19.:07:23.

does connect it and when it does come together she is able to take

:07:24.:07:26.

medals because we have seen that from her. So, Cindy looks stronger

:07:27.:07:32.

at the moment, she has been strong all year. Would you tip her for a

:07:33.:07:37.

medal? It will be tough. The Americans have been running so well,

:07:38.:07:42.

and all three are through, which is rare, but Cindy is good at starting

:07:43.:07:48.

and she has run a solid race. The Jamaican was really rolling and then

:07:49.:07:51.

unfortunately tumbled. It was fortunate for Cindy. She gets in.

:07:52.:08:00.

And Kristi Castlin, one of the best in the world, so that will boost

:08:01.:08:04.

confidence. She has been really solid. She will certainly go in with

:08:05.:08:10.

confidence. She has been running really fast consistently this year.

:08:11.:08:14.

She could be in a medal position. Once you are in the final you have a

:08:15.:08:23.

chance of a medal. This must be one of the Americans' strongest events.

:08:24.:08:28.

They have three girls. They were supposed to take the clean sweep in

:08:29.:08:32.

the last World Championships. They might do it this time around. We

:08:33.:08:38.

don't have Kenny Harrison, the world recordholder, which she got at the

:08:39.:08:42.

Anniversary Games in London, and it is a shame she can't mix with the

:08:43.:08:47.

field. And as you say, they asked so unpredictable, which might explain

:08:48.:08:50.

why the USA didn't win a medal for the first time in history in the 110

:08:51.:08:55.

metre hurdles last night. So much can go right and so much can go

:08:56.:08:59.

wrong and that proved of course in the second heat. And they have had a

:09:00.:09:06.

really good season, this young girl, she is new to the event, and this

:09:07.:09:10.

was just a horrible fall. She was going really well, she was about to

:09:11.:09:15.

take the lead and then she just clashes into the second to last

:09:16.:09:21.

hurdle and the reaction says it all. Just devastated. This was her

:09:22.:09:26.

opportunity. She came to the US trials, try to make the team and

:09:27.:09:30.

didn't, which was tough for her at 19, but she made the porter Ricoh

:09:31.:09:43.

team -- porter -- Porto Rican team. That was an amazing opportunity. She

:09:44.:09:51.

will take that disappointment and hopefully use it positively and use

:09:52.:09:58.

it stronger. It was a brave 1500 metres. And these are the medallists

:09:59.:10:10.

-- Puerto Rican team. Some amazing stats about this race. Low 157 for

:10:11.:10:21.

Debaba. Take this race and last year's World Championship final, it

:10:22.:10:26.

would have made eight runners who have run under 159 for the 800 at

:10:27.:10:32.

the end of the 1500 -- Dibaba. They could have all turned up probably

:10:33.:10:37.

and given them a run for their money, but anyway they were superb,

:10:38.:10:41.

Laura Muir did everything she could to keep up and in so doing she tired

:10:42.:10:49.

in the last 200 metres. This is a great young athlete, she was so

:10:50.:10:54.

disappointed last year to have been beaten by Dibaba, but this time she

:10:55.:10:59.

was too good at she was not going to let Dibaba run away from her. They

:11:00.:11:06.

ran 56.8 from the 700 to go to the 300 to go, yes, 56.8 and kept going

:11:07.:11:11.

almost at that pace over the last 300. Strength, speed and a very

:11:12.:11:23.

competitive nature, Kipyegon, the Olympic champion from Kenya.

:11:24.:12:07.

KENYAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS. APPLAUSE. A brilliant gold medal for

:12:08.:12:35.

Kipyegon, and well done Jenny Simpson for the USA, now a bronze at

:12:36.:12:40.

the Olympic Games, she is an excellent athlete and such a role

:12:41.:12:44.

model for many of the non- African 1500 metre runners. Well done to

:12:45.:12:52.

her. Laura Muir holding up the great tradition for Britain in the

:12:53.:12:55.

distance event of the women's 1500, which was so difficult is year, and

:12:56.:13:00.

they came seventh and 11th, the British women respectively. STUDIO:

:13:01.:13:10.

Well, Great Britain has two met women in the long jump final, and

:13:11.:13:16.

that lady, Jazmin Sawyers, five foot three, silver-medallist in the

:13:17.:13:21.

junior Olympic bobsled team, in the Winter Olympics, a silver-medallist

:13:22.:13:26.

in the long jump and the European Championships, she has wide ranging

:13:27.:13:29.

interests, so she is not your average long jumper, let's say.

:13:30.:13:36.

Jazmin Sawyers is having a good season so far, jumping in excess of

:13:37.:13:41.

6.6 in summer, 6.42 was her best until now at an look at that, well,

:13:42.:13:46.

that will get her a place in the team for the Olympic Games. To

:13:47.:13:52.

guarantee my sport here I needed to jump over 6.7 and come in the top

:13:53.:13:57.

two and I did both, so I made it happened when it counted, and that

:13:58.:14:01.

was amazing, the whole experience, knowing that I was coming here and,

:14:02.:14:06.

again, pulling out the performance when it was important, and nothing

:14:07.:14:16.

is more important than the Olympics. Five foot three. I am really not

:14:17.:14:21.

fall. People are like, aren't you meant to be tall? And I am like,

:14:22.:14:28.

yeah, and I have to be fast, and I have to be springy. They talk about

:14:29.:14:34.

you as a fashion icon? I don't know how that happened. I read that.

:14:35.:14:40.

Instantly I scrawled to the top of the article to see he had written

:14:41.:14:43.

it, because there is no way they would have chosen me, so I don't

:14:44.:14:47.

know where it has come from, but apparently someone at Vogue thinks I

:14:48.:14:53.

am fashionable. LAUGHTER. Sawyers progressing to tomorrow's

:14:54.:14:56.

final. What would you be happy to go home with? If I don't John Meis

:14:57.:15:02.

personal best I am not doing my personal best, because being

:15:03.:15:05.

competitive when it matters is a trait I am proud of -- if I don't

:15:06.:15:10.

jump my personal best. This is the bigger stage, the greatest show on

:15:11.:15:13.

earth and if I don't produce my best, I won't be happy, so I want to

:15:14.:15:18.

get further than I have and I can say, coat, once we have done that,

:15:19.:15:22.

then I can play. I like to get the crowd involved. I enjoy myself and

:15:23.:15:28.

that is when the best performances come. I want to be able to take off

:15:29.:15:31.

the pressure and enjoy it for what it is. At the moment she is bouncing

:15:32.:15:41.

around, enjoying the announcement for the long jumpers, that is what

:15:42.:15:48.

they do for all events, they get out the samba band and she is a delight

:15:49.:15:54.

to look at with that big beaming smile, she loves being here, and she

:15:55.:15:58.

is so bouncy that, Michael Johnson, you could forgive her for thinking

:15:59.:16:03.

she was a gymnast, but as you get close you realise it is Sawyers, but

:16:04.:16:10.

she could be a gymnast. She has broad shoulders and hopefully she

:16:11.:16:13.

can pull it out today. Let's go to Steve and assess the field. She is

:16:14.:16:18.

by no means the jumper in the field with the longest distance, but she

:16:19.:16:22.

is a great competitor. She has said it in her interview. She wants to do

:16:23.:16:28.

her best when it matters. She loves competing and has such an endearing

:16:29.:16:33.

personality. She talked about her personal best, 6.75 metres. You

:16:34.:16:37.

can't help think she will need all of that and some more to get in

:16:38.:16:39.

amongst the medals potentially. successive seasons of silver medals.

:16:40.:16:53.

Look at her warming up, she is bouncing around, smiling, she is

:16:54.:16:58.

thriving. That is great to see. Just hoping she can transfer all of that

:16:59.:17:02.

bounce and energy and optimism onto the runway. I am looking forward to

:17:03.:17:09.

it. Britain's other representative is Lorraine Dougan. She qualified at

:17:10.:17:15.

six metres, 65 centimetres. She is getting into it as well, enjoying

:17:16.:17:22.

the Samba. Yes, the world indoor bronze medallist. Entertaining the

:17:23.:17:27.

crowd. It is warm tonight, no wind to speak of. Perfect long jumping

:17:28.:17:38.

conditions. Two Brits involved. To have to British athletes in an

:17:39.:17:41.

Olympic final will be great to watch. Brittney Reese is the athlete

:17:42.:17:47.

with the biggest lifetime best, seven metres in 31 centimetres. Is

:17:48.:17:52.

she the one they will all be chasing, the one with gold in her

:17:53.:17:56.

sights? Without a shadow of a doubt. Brittney Reese has jumped a jump

:17:57.:18:02.

that was the longest in 14 years, winning the US trials. There was

:18:03.:18:06.

talk of a clean sweep for the Americans. I think Brittney Reese is

:18:07.:18:16.

the best of them, absolutely. But the two British athletes, we have

:18:17.:18:18.

seen it tonight in the hurdles, anything can happen. If you are in

:18:19.:18:24.

the final, you are in the mix. Thank you, Steve. We will check in with

:18:25.:18:28.

you across the evening. I wonder if I can hire that samba band to bring

:18:29.:18:35.

us into the studio of an evening. You would like that, Michael. I

:18:36.:18:40.

think we had enough with the all 18 introduction. -- all A-Team

:18:41.:18:45.

introduction. Let's just stay focused. Well, no killing moths

:18:46.:18:52.

them. Let's review what went on this morning. It was dominated by

:18:53.:18:57.

distance on the track. The heat was sweltering. Not comfortable for lots

:18:58.:19:00.

of the athletes. Jess Creighton has rounded it up for us.

:19:01.:19:07.

With three Olympic titles already under his belt Mo Farah began his

:19:08.:19:10.

quest to defend his 5000 metres crown. COMMENTATOR: Here we go again

:19:11.:19:16.

with Mo Farah, he has got some familiar figures in this heat. The

:19:17.:19:22.

top five will go through. He is going the long way around, he wants

:19:23.:19:26.

to be a bit close. Once again, Mo Farah is in trouble! Be careful, Mo,

:19:27.:19:33.

get on the outside! All you have to do is run. That is dangerous. He

:19:34.:19:37.

cannot do anything about it but he needs to be a bit more careful. He

:19:38.:19:43.

fell in the final of the ten, he was tripped with one lap to go, and if

:19:44.:19:46.

he had fallen there his Olympic double dream would have the nerve

:19:47.:19:52.

completely. -- would have been over completely. He has qualified, he has

:19:53.:19:56.

done it the hard way, now just go away, Mo, and relax a little bit. I

:19:57.:20:02.

have just got to recover now. It is hard work, it is hot. Just tough to

:20:03.:20:07.

rest up. Next to the starting line was Britain's Lynsey Sharp in the

:20:08.:20:12.

800 metres heats. COMMENTATOR: Sharp in a good position, two to go

:20:13.:20:16.

through automatically. She looks up to the screen, looks to her right.

:20:17.:20:20.

Diego is there. They are separating themselves. Lynsey Sharp is not

:20:21.:20:25.

going to be caught, she is going to take this with a good finish. She

:20:26.:20:29.

takes second place, behind Lynsey Sharp. A good run, just outside two

:20:30.:20:33.

minutes. Lynsey Sharp controlled that race. I feel in the shape of my

:20:34.:20:38.

life, and I know it will take that to get in amongst the medals. I am

:20:39.:20:43.

really looking forward to the next round. The second heat was won by a

:20:44.:20:48.

woman who has come under intense scrutiny in the run-up to these

:20:49.:20:54.

Games, Caster Semenya. Her return to her unbeatable best this year has

:20:55.:20:59.

reignited the debate about hyper androgynous, a condition which

:21:00.:21:01.

causes higher than average testosterone levels. Clarke also

:21:02.:21:07.

made it through to the semifinals on Friday after finishing third. After

:21:08.:21:12.

the success of Sophie Hitchon in the hammer they will be no British

:21:13.:21:16.

competitors in the man's final. Nick Miller, Mark dry and Chris Bennett

:21:17.:21:20.

all fell short. Not even the favourite and reigning world

:21:21.:21:22.

champion Powell Frederic could make his mark.

:21:23.:21:28.

The ever impressive Ashton Eaton, reigning world and Olympic champion,

:21:29.:21:35.

is used to being the man to beat in the decathlon. COMMENTATOR: He is up

:21:36.:21:40.

against Damian Warner, who has run at 10.15 recently. Warner gets away

:21:41.:21:47.

well, but Ashton Eaton is right there with him. What is going to get

:21:48.:21:55.

there first, as expected, 10.30. -- Warner is going. Ashton Eaton

:21:56.:22:01.

trailing him in the 100 metres, but the long jump ... Slight

:22:02.:22:09.

improvement. Well, he is well on his way now. Looking to defend his title

:22:10.:22:12.

and emulate the great man Daley Thompson, defending his title,

:22:13.:22:17.

double Olympic champion Ashton Eaton looking good. Back on the track,

:22:18.:22:22.

fans were in for a treat as the man's 3000 metres Steeplechase got

:22:23.:22:29.

under way. Can you stormed to victory, breaking a 28 record.

:22:30.:22:33.

COMMENTATOR: Jacob trying to hang on, but he is looking around to see

:22:34.:22:37.

if he is safe of the bronze medal. Picking up the pace, he is looking

:22:38.:22:40.

around and waving to the crowd. There is something of the showman

:22:41.:22:45.

around him, but Evan Jaeger on the shoulder of Ezequiel Campbell at the

:22:46.:22:48.

silver medal. Campbell does not seem to have anything left. Another gold

:22:49.:22:54.

medal in this event tenure. Jacob finishing so quickly. A new Olympic

:22:55.:23:03.

record. The tradition goes on, since 1968, every time be canyons have

:23:04.:23:08.

come to the Olympic game, they have won the gold medal. -- the Kenyans.

:23:09.:23:15.

The one day they make sure they pack the Kenyan flag is on Steeplechase

:23:16.:23:18.

day. Well, not long after the race, the

:23:19.:23:22.

French protested because they said that Kim Boyd stepped off the track,

:23:23.:23:29.

which is an infringement. You can see his left foot does indeed just

:23:30.:23:34.

step off the track. Possibly he is doing that to protect himself, we

:23:35.:23:38.

have seen lots of falls in this distance races. That protest was

:23:39.:23:42.

upheld and Kemboi has now had his gold medal taken away. The bronze

:23:43.:23:49.

medal ceremony is at 11pm tonight. It is worth noting, you cannot see

:23:50.:23:55.

it on the end there, Casey came in a good 70 seconds behind. It is not as

:23:56.:23:59.

though he was on his shoulder. I know it was an infringement but it

:24:00.:24:03.

does seem particularly harsh. Yes, I don't agree with that at all. I

:24:04.:24:06.

don't think they should have made that call. But I think it is

:24:07.:24:10.

consistent with lots of what we have seen here in terms of the officials

:24:11.:24:12.

and how they have handled different situations, whether it is whether or

:24:13.:24:18.

rerunning heats. It has not been very good. Somebody said to me that

:24:19.:24:24.

the officiating here does not seem like it has been very good, and I

:24:25.:24:27.

agreed. I think that is just another example. The officiating has not

:24:28.:24:31.

been great and it affects the athletes. That is ridiculous. You

:24:32.:24:37.

have officials, and you have a jury that listens to the appeals, and

:24:38.:24:41.

they make a judgement call. That is what they are supposed to do. It is

:24:42.:24:44.

about the rules, yes, but their purpose is to look and see if the

:24:45.:24:48.

athlete gained any advantage. And was there something that was done

:24:49.:24:52.

that was unfair to the other athletes? And in that case, the

:24:53.:24:56.

answer is no. So they should not have allowed the appeal, in my

:24:57.:25:00.

opinion. We will catch up on all the other things that happened this

:25:01.:25:03.

morning and your take on that a bit later, but we really need to get

:25:04.:25:07.

down to the field, because the long jump competition has started, and it

:25:08.:25:13.

has started ferociously, Steve? It has, Gabby. First up it is men

:25:14.:25:27.

like Hanbo. -- Malaika Mihambo. She did this in the first round, a

:25:28.:25:31.

lifetime best of six metres in 19 centimetres. The 22-year-old German

:25:32.:25:37.

getting very close to it. The very first jump of the competition.

:25:38.:25:42.

Mihambo has a history of jumping well in the first round and she has

:25:43.:25:52.

done it again in the final. So, that was 6.83 first up, first dibs. She

:25:53.:25:56.

has laid down a marker for the rest of the field to chase. That was a

:25:57.:25:59.

key moments ago. Darya Klishina looking to respond, the Russian

:26:00.:26:05.

cleared to compete after a loophole. She lives outside of Russia. Another

:26:06.:26:11.

long jump, and it has started with a bang. Mihambo 6.83 in that league,

:26:12.:26:22.

in the early stages. Three jumps and then the top eight will get another

:26:23.:26:26.

three. 14 centimetres to spare for the Russian, I believe the only

:26:27.:26:31.

Russian competing in the athletics. There was a blanket ban on the team,

:26:32.:26:42.

of course. Jazmin Sawyers, all the smiles have turned to a much more

:26:43.:26:49.

determined look. The 22 your old brick, round one, that is big! Did

:26:50.:26:55.

her left leg just cut the sand there? The white flag is raised.

:26:56.:26:59.

Just keen to see how she has cut the sand. I think her left foot has let

:27:00.:27:04.

her down. Good on the run up, accelerating onto the board. Good

:27:05.:27:08.

height. But look at her left foot there, chopping back. Nine

:27:09.:27:14.

centimetres to spare. Instinctive style. Her left foot just came back

:27:15.:27:19.

on her and cost are valuable centimetres. 6.55 in the opening

:27:20.:27:25.

round. Reigning Olympic champion and huge favourite, Brittney Reese.

:27:26.:27:31.

World leader, with 7.31. Brittney Reese can put this condition to that

:27:32.:27:35.

right here and right now. Has she? Red flag! A foul, a big foul. That

:27:36.:27:46.

was around seven point 20, that would have put out of reach of

:27:47.:27:51.

everybody, but it is a foul. It will not count and it is not measured. It

:27:52.:27:58.

is a big foul, ten centimetres. Foul for Brittney Reese. Lorraine Dougan,

:27:59.:28:10.

after that competitive effort indoors. Round one, she hits the

:28:11.:28:17.

board well. It sounded good. Indeed, it was. It has started thick and

:28:18.:28:28.

fast here. That right foot of hers cost her centimetres. It's so often

:28:29.:28:35.

does, but it pulls her forward. That is kind of how she does it. One

:28:36.:28:40.

centimetre ahead of Jazmin Sawyers, in fifth place. Eyeliner spun

:28:41.:28:53.

Ivanovic, then, the Serbian. -- Ivana Spanovic. What can she do?

:28:54.:29:03.

That is big! She had medals at the last two World Championships,

:29:04.:29:05.

indoors and out. Bronze medallist last year, behind Charlotte Cotter,

:29:06.:29:11.

if you remember. She jump date national record then, of seven

:29:12.:29:14.

centimetres Jurak seven metres and one centimetre. -- seven centimetres

:29:15.:29:24.

and one centimetre. Ivana Spanovic takes the lead at the end of round

:29:25.:29:32.

one. Jazmin Sawyers chilling between jumps, and Lorraine Dougan. --

:29:33.:29:39.

Lorraine Ugen. They will have to jump more they want to get near the

:29:40.:29:42.

top of the heat because there are some seriously talented women in

:29:43.:29:50.

that completion. It is lovely to see one of these competitions, were the

:29:51.:29:54.

lead changes back and forth. It is really tight at the top. Obviously

:29:55.:29:59.

there are some girls in their who have jumped over seven metres.

:30:00.:30:05.

Obviously Brittney Reese is one of those, and Ivana Spanovic is in that

:30:06.:30:08.

class at the moment. She has been really consistent season. The second

:30:09.:30:14.

heat of the 400 metres to cut long. It is the men who are the slower of

:30:15.:30:17.

the decathletes. amazing. I wish they could be like

:30:18.:30:37.

that for every event. It shows the noise can raise. It doesn't always

:30:38.:30:46.

hit that height. They have been good at supporting their athletes. And

:30:47.:30:51.

certainly da Silva benefited from that. We would like to see a little

:30:52.:31:00.

bit more. It is well documented that not all the seats have sold. I have

:31:01.:31:05.

been in other stadiums that have not been as loud. And they can shout.

:31:06.:31:11.

They must have some big vocal chords. Let's have look at the

:31:12.:31:13.

highlights from this morning. First of all the 800 metres. A

:31:14.:31:20.

professional passage through four Lynsey Sharp. She raced well. She

:31:21.:31:27.

looks good. She looks fantastic. She has done the work. She is confident

:31:28.:31:33.

and prepared to take races on if it means qualifying. She is brave

:31:34.:31:48.

enough to do that. That was excellent. And she also features

:31:49.:31:51.

clerk. She had a PB through that competition. She was in the heat

:31:52.:31:57.

today. Against the favourite. It was a tough heat. She had to wait

:31:58.:32:04.

nervously to see if her speed would be one of the qualifying as a

:32:05.:32:11.

fastest loser. I think she was the second fastest loser. She was quite

:32:12.:32:16.

sanguine afterwards when she spoke with Phil. She said there were

:32:17.:32:21.

things she would do differently. Are you confident they can go through

:32:22.:32:28.

the semifinals? We have seen with the men and women that it is so

:32:29.:32:34.

tough. Qualification is so tough. It is tight in the top four of the 800

:32:35.:32:40.

metres. She has a lot of confidence. That World Championship really

:32:41.:32:42.

boosted her confidence and what she is able to do in training. She

:32:43.:32:46.

really believes in herself. She just has to run out her heart. And Mo was

:32:47.:32:53.

on the track this morning. He had a little bump. He didn't hit the deck,

:32:54.:32:58.

as many seem to be doing. He did have a slight wobble. It was a hard

:32:59.:33:03.

enough moment. I would say! Let alone for Mo. It looks worse

:33:04.:33:08.

whenever you see it. I really thought he was going to go down. He

:33:09.:33:13.

had accelerated in the race to get into a good position. And then he

:33:14.:33:17.

took it down a notch. The athlete just behind him hit the deck. He

:33:18.:33:22.

just caught the back of his heel. There have been a lot of falls.

:33:23.:33:27.

Luckily Mo was unscathed. There have been a lot. Not just in the distance

:33:28.:33:34.

races. There have also been a lot of tumbles in the hurdles. We have seen

:33:35.:33:40.

them around the last couple of days. There seem to be more athletes than

:33:41.:33:45.

normal hitting the deck. I think that, I was thinking it earlier in

:33:46.:33:49.

the day, I don't know why it would be in the distance races but I think

:33:50.:33:53.

with the quick track, which we alluded to earlier, that fast track

:33:54.:33:58.

that it is, it is a very hard surface, that makes it quick and it

:33:59.:34:02.

causes lots of problems for hurdlers, which we saw in the 400

:34:03.:34:07.

metres, the 100 metre hurdles, the 110 metre hurdles for the men, and

:34:08.:34:10.

we have seen a world record. That might be what is going on. Keep safe

:34:11.:34:15.

everybody. Let's go back to Steve in the field. This long jump, the

:34:16.:34:28.

second round. Bartoletta, a foul in the first round. That might have

:34:29.:34:33.

taken the lead. The American world champion last year. And ten years

:34:34.:34:41.

ago she first was world champion. She retains that... Regained that

:34:42.:34:49.

world title. She is a contender for the Olympic title as well. One of

:34:50.:35:01.

two very confident Americans. Boom! Bartoletta, one centimetre behind.

:35:02.:35:08.

Jazmin Sawyers. 6.55 in the first round.

:35:09.:35:18.

Oh, it is high again. There is good height off the board. And she has

:35:19.:35:27.

watched athletes jump out towards seven metres. Jazmin Sawyers took to

:35:28.:35:35.

her lifetime best of 6.75. That is really well drilled. Good on the

:35:36.:35:42.

board. She is so good at getting everything out of herself. It is

:35:43.:35:47.

better, 6.69, she goes into sixth place. Well, Rigney KENYAN NATIONAL

:35:48.:36:01.

ANTHEM PLAYS.. She needs to get one in. She is attacking hard. I think

:36:02.:36:12.

she tried to make sure that her foot was behind the board -- Brittney

:36:13.:36:16.

Reese. Otherwise she would have been under immense pressure. Look at

:36:17.:36:19.

this. She just chopped very slightly. Dips and lifts. Her

:36:20.:36:24.

shoulders have come down. Look at that, 27 centimetres of extra space.

:36:25.:36:33.

No one has ever defended a women's long jump title at the Olympic

:36:34.:36:40.

Games. Reese, 6.79, fourth place, to confirm she will have four more

:36:41.:36:51.

efforts. Moguenara of Germany. Her teammate has taken the lead early

:36:52.:36:58.

on. Moguenara, 6.61 in the first round. That was a big stutter and

:36:59.:37:05.

that has to be a foul. I think she put in a couple of extra strides.

:37:06.:37:11.

Athletes have marks and almost hit the same spot. And that is what

:37:12.:37:20.

Lorraine is going to want to do as she prepares herself. Asking the

:37:21.:37:26.

crowd to join in, as they do. Well then, Ugen. 6.9 to her best from

:37:27.:37:32.

last year and oh, she would like to do that again now. She accelerates

:37:33.:37:39.

hard, but no. Not quite sure what happened there. It just seemed to

:37:40.:37:47.

fall apart. It is, of course, -2, it is a foul. So, Ugen's 6.56 in the

:37:48.:37:57.

first round, 10th place, she will have to improve on that because only

:37:58.:38:00.

the top eight get the final three jumps. So at the moment it is

:38:01.:38:15.

Sopanovic who is first up, in the lead by one centimetre. She led the

:38:16.:38:22.

World Championships last year for a while but then saw Bartoletta

:38:23.:38:30.

go-ahead of her -- Spanovic. She knows she will to extend this.

:38:31.:38:40.

Spanovic... Hugely capable. 7.1 metres her lifetime best. Big

:38:41.:38:47.

strides, turning to sprinting strides on the runway, huge

:38:48.:38:51.

acceleration, that is big! That is a long way but it is a red flag. That

:38:52.:38:56.

is a shame. Interesting to see how far. Well, it is significant. I

:38:57.:39:01.

suppose if you are in the lead, you are given the chance to really go

:39:02.:39:05.

for it and take the risk to get a big jump out, Spanovic foul. And

:39:06.:39:22.

here is Lorraine Ugen. Lorraine Ugen, she will be a little bit

:39:23.:39:25.

disappointed with that, she has to get herself together. She knows that

:39:26.:39:31.

she can jump 6.9 three. On the track, you have the early heats of

:39:32.:39:36.

the men's 400 metres decathlon, the last of the day for them. And in the

:39:37.:39:43.

final heat, it goes in order of speed and personal best, Ashton

:39:44.:39:46.

Eaton leading the way in the competition, the Olympic champion of

:39:47.:39:50.

course and world champion hoping to retain his Olympic title, so to

:39:51.:39:53.

bring you through the story of the day so far, Steve Batley. It has

:39:54.:40:00.

been a warm day for the decathlon and they started first thing this

:40:01.:40:05.

morning in the sunshine. Damian Warner from Canada was leading

:40:06.:40:11.

Ashton Eaton in the first event. As expected, Ashton Eaton went to the

:40:12.:40:15.

long jump for his second round attempt, after 7.9 in the first

:40:16.:40:19.

round, and he improved it with that in the second round, 7.94, further

:40:20.:40:22.

than last year when he broke his own world record. So he was looking good

:40:23.:40:30.

after two events. This was his third attempt and his best of that

:40:31.:40:37.

competition. Second of ten. 6.7 that was. He is trying to give Ashton

:40:38.:40:46.

Eaton something to sing -- think about. And in the shotput, 14.73,

:40:47.:40:54.

better last year. And water in round three did this. -- Warner. 13.6 six.

:40:55.:41:04.

So, then the athletes moved across to the high jump. -- 13.66. This is

:41:05.:41:17.

2.01. The third time of asking. He matched what he did last year.

:41:18.:41:28.

Damian Warner was better, though, with 2.04. The Canadian managed to

:41:29.:41:35.

go clear. So it is not all going Eaton that's way. What about this,

:41:36.:41:45.

the United States, Jeremy with this clearance in the high jump, a

:41:46.:41:49.

massive clearance of 2.19, with a best of 2.25, so we knew he would be

:41:50.:41:55.

good but he has shot up into the bronze medal position after that

:41:56.:42:02.

jump. Fourth event with just the 400 metres to come, so here is the

:42:03.:42:07.

standings. Ashton Eaton just 27 points shy where he was in his world

:42:08.:42:11.

record attempt, his successful world record last year, 50 points ahead

:42:12.:42:20.

and it is 77 point, in fact, cleared the first four. The Frenchman had an

:42:21.:42:27.

excellent first day. Here is Eaton getting ready for his 400 metres to

:42:28.:42:31.

conclude the first day of the decathlon. STUDIO: Ashton Eaton is

:42:32.:42:37.

fairly consistent through the ten, maybe as you saw a little off the

:42:38.:42:41.

pace in the high jump, but if he has an outstanding event, this will

:42:42.:42:49.

bobbly be it. This is it, this is amazing, he has been amazing in the

:42:50.:42:53.

400 metres, running almost 44 seconds, and I believe he believes

:42:54.:42:57.

he can run 44 seconds, and he has been working on that in the last

:42:58.:43:01.

year, and he is one of those people who is very meticulous, he is sort

:43:02.:43:05.

of a nerd, always studying the sport, and so he, you know, feels

:43:06.:43:12.

like this is his opportunity. I think what is interesting is I think

:43:13.:43:17.

he is an amazing competitor and he rarely comes under pressure from

:43:18.:43:20.

other competitors, which might be happening here. It is starting to

:43:21.:43:24.

look like that is happening. It will be interesting to see what he can

:43:25.:43:30.

bring when he is really pushed. Unless you have anything to add,

:43:31.:43:37.

shall we go to commentary? I think, as Michael has said, he is so

:43:38.:43:42.

intensely... Such a perfectionist with this event, and he is rarely

:43:43.:43:47.

challenged. He has to be strong to keep pushing himself, pushing his

:43:48.:43:49.

own personal barriers to get the best out of himself. Just an amazing

:43:50.:43:57.

performer. And while he is so pre-eminent, is it the case that

:43:58.:44:02.

everyone is then against the decathlon rather than being

:44:03.:44:05.

intimidated by him? Yes, they will help each other in pole vault and

:44:06.:44:11.

high jump, you know, they get on really well, but there is a huge

:44:12.:44:16.

amount of respect. He is not the tallest athlete there has ever been

:44:17.:44:20.

in the decathlon but he is the fastest, the most consistent, and he

:44:21.:44:25.

is mentally tough. He is just a supreme athlete. He rarely makes

:44:26.:44:28.

mistakes. And when the comeback after the race, I want to know why

:44:29.:44:36.

we don't have any men at the moment in the decathlon. We had such a rich

:44:37.:44:44.

period with Thompson, but no one at the moment representing Great

:44:45.:44:50.

Britain. We will watch this one man, Andrew Cotter. There are a couple of

:44:51.:44:57.

decathletes for Britain, but not at the highest standing. And David

:44:58.:45:01.

Thompson before that, of course. Damian Warner in the second lane. 45

:45:02.:45:13.

seconds is the PB of Ashton Eaton. And he has run 45.63 this season in

:45:14.:45:22.

Houston. He Olympic decathlon best was set in 1960. The altitude of

:45:23.:45:30.

Mexico City might well mean that goes here. And Damian Warner, he is

:45:31.:45:38.

quick over 400, 40 6.54 with a new personal best this season. They are

:45:39.:45:44.

first and second at the moment -- 46.54. So, the Estonian, the

:45:45.:45:52.

Canadian, Lindon Victor from Granada in lane three. Nakimura in lane five

:45:53.:46:06.

for Japan. Ashton Eaton, he is just 27 points down on his world record

:46:07.:46:09.

pace at this stage after four events. He was a little bit off his

:46:10.:46:18.

best in the hundred metres if that gives you some indication, but 400

:46:19.:46:23.

is his real strength. Look out for Eaton, look out for Warner and

:46:24.:46:37.

Kazmarec. 45 the best for Aston Eaton. Ashton Eaton is a class

:46:38.:46:46.

apart. You can see him moving along. He is a sprinter, a runner, and he

:46:47.:46:52.

is up against some heavier men. -- Kazmirek. They have the quickest

:46:53.:46:57.

times. Ashton Eaton is leaving them behind.

:46:58.:47:06.

are in first and second and fifth place in Ashton Eaton. Kazmirek, the

:47:07.:47:12.

German going strongly in lane eight. Watch the clock, watch the time.

:47:13.:47:16.

Ashton Eaton has gone on hard, he is going to be down a little bit. 46.

:47:17.:47:22.

By his standards, a little bit disappointing. He will extend his

:47:23.:47:34.

lead over Damian Warner before we head into tomorrow's events, the 110

:47:35.:47:39.

metre hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin, the 1500 metres.

:47:40.:47:44.

Good run by Kazmirek, who says, leave me alone, I'm dying here. That

:47:45.:47:48.

is what the 400 metres does. Ashton Eaton is so comfortable in this

:47:49.:47:52.

event, but you can see how took it out of him. As we see him coming

:47:53.:47:56.

down the home straight, insight on the left of screen, Damian Warner

:47:57.:47:59.

could do nothing about what Ashton Eaton was pouring on. Not quite as

:48:00.:48:06.

brilliant as last year when he ran 45 flat over this event in the

:48:07.:48:11.

decathlon. But it is a significant performance on what has been a very

:48:12.:48:15.

hot day. The athletes have been out here all day managing there energy.

:48:16.:48:19.

It has been 35 degrees and humid even into the evening. Ashton Eaton

:48:20.:48:24.

trying to squeeze everything out of that. 4647 points for Ashton Eaton.

:48:25.:48:34.

A solid first day. Damian Warner was down on his best. It was a good run.

:48:35.:48:41.

And equalling run from Kai Kazmirek. He can be proud. But Ashton Eaton

:48:42.:48:46.

stretches his lead at the top, overall. So, that was the leaders in

:48:47.:48:56.

the decathlon. This is another look at those leaders' points scores

:48:57.:49:04.

across those events. Ashton Eaton is one of only two madmen who has ever

:49:05.:49:12.

gone beyond 9000 points. -- two men. Kazmirek improving his chances of a

:49:13.:49:13.

medal. Warner stays in second place. Tianna Bartoletta in round three of

:49:14.:49:27.

the long jump. She is in second place by just one centimetre.

:49:28.:49:34.

Well... It looks a lot. A smile on the face of Tianna Bartoletta. She

:49:35.:49:38.

ran in 11 seconds flat and didn't make the final of the 100 metres.

:49:39.:49:42.

Good running into acceleration there. She's seemed to really run

:49:43.:49:48.

into herself, with 16 centimetres to add to this, to show her potential.

:49:49.:49:59.

A slightly awkward landing. 6.95, taking the lead courtesy of count

:50:00.:50:06.

back. Better then Spanovic. Jazmin Sawyers, 6.60 nine. -- six point 69.

:50:07.:50:14.

-- 6.69. Just ever so slight deceleration,

:50:15.:50:22.

when you compare that to the speed on the runway of Bartoletta. Jazmin

:50:23.:50:29.

Sawyers currently in seventh place. Going reasonably well. She will make

:50:30.:50:37.

the cut. Just to remind you, the top eight get the final three jumps,

:50:38.:50:44.

pulling herself into the sand. Eking out every millimetre she can. It is

:50:45.:50:49.

6.50 seven. No improvement. There he is, is seen by comic

:50:50.:51:03.

getting ready for his 200 metres semi-final. -- Usain Bolt. You have

:51:04.:51:13.

stayed up this late, you may as well stay for this. Put the kettle on. We

:51:14.:51:19.

have three British athletes in those semifinals, Danny Talbot and

:51:20.:51:24.

Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake. And in Bolt's heat of the semifinals, we

:51:25.:51:27.

also have Adam Jimmy, a man who always runs with a smile on his

:51:28.:51:35.

face. -- Adam Gemili. It is a crazy feeling to be going into my second

:51:36.:51:41.

Olympic Games. I'm only 22 and it is exciting. I feel very different to

:51:42.:51:45.

how I felt in London. London, I was only 18. I was very new to the

:51:46.:51:49.

sport. I was just feeling my way through. I didn't really expect to

:51:50.:51:53.

do anything. Now I am coming in and I want to go out and compete and be

:51:54.:51:57.

a contender and be in the mixture a medal. I am coming into this one

:51:58.:52:00.

with a different mentality and mindset.

:52:01.:52:13.

9.85, third in an Olympic semi-final at the age of 18. What an

:52:14.:52:18.

experience. What London predominantly taught me was to

:52:19.:52:22.

believe in myself. Now I come into the sport and I go into every race

:52:23.:52:25.

thinking I can win it, no matter who is in the race, no matter what they

:52:26.:52:30.

have run beforehand. I go into every race believing in my own ability,

:52:31.:52:33.

and I didn't really do that in London. That is what it taught me. I

:52:34.:52:38.

only missed out on the final by four hundredths of a second, which was

:52:39.:52:43.

not a massive amount, but if I had had more belief, maybe I could have

:52:44.:52:52.

made that final. I tore my hamstring pretty nasty Lee last year. --

:52:53.:53:04.

masterly. -- nastily. I was gutted because it put me out from the whole

:53:05.:53:08.

season. I have been bouncing back and hopefully I continue to do so.

:53:09.:53:19.

And it is coming back on him! I was happy to run my season's rest. I was

:53:20.:53:25.

happy to get under 20 seconds. I was quite disappointed afterwards

:53:26.:53:27.

because I thought I could execute better. I didn't execute how I

:53:28.:53:32.

wanted to. But it was a good field, guys who had been running very fast.

:53:33.:53:35.

Lots of those guys had run 19 seconds and I did actually go on and

:53:36.:53:39.

beat them. It gives me good confidence to come back out to

:53:40.:53:42.

training come out here in the sun, and get some good work in. I know

:53:43.:53:47.

that when Rio comes I will be on my best shape and will hopefully run

:53:48.:53:52.

one of my fastest times. Well, he made a global final in

:53:53.:53:58.

Moscow, and the progression seems to be moving nicely. Do you feel that

:53:59.:54:02.

that injury last year, and missing out on the World Championships, took

:54:03.:54:05.

him back a little bit? Yes, as it would. That is what happens when you

:54:06.:54:11.

have an injury like that. That is a pretty significant injury. But it

:54:12.:54:17.

was only one year. I mean, he ran under 20 seconds in 2013, matched it

:54:18.:54:21.

again in 2014. That is what you want to do. If you take the injury out he

:54:22.:54:25.

has been very consistent, which is exactly what you want. Glasgow was a

:54:26.:54:31.

year where he went back significantly, you know, and it was

:54:32.:54:35.

not due to injury. Many would say, OK, what is going on here? Has it

:54:36.:54:39.

bled into this season a bit? Because he is not as happy with his times. I

:54:40.:54:45.

think this season it has taken him a while to get back, as it would for

:54:46.:54:48.

anyone, but I think he is coming around at the right time. You know,

:54:49.:54:52.

we will see here. It is tough to say. Because after you come off an

:54:53.:54:57.

injury like that, especially a hamstring injury, it is tough to get

:54:58.:55:01.

the confidence back. How did the training go back in the fall, who

:55:02.:55:05.

knows. It is tough to say that this year we should expect more. You have

:55:06.:55:10.

had a close look at the phases of his race for us. Yes, and one of the

:55:11.:55:14.

things about Adam is that he is just technically very, very sound. He has

:55:15.:55:20.

a natural ability to be very symmetrical, very efficient as a

:55:21.:55:23.

runner. He has got the right size and build for the 200 metres.

:55:24.:55:33.

Everything is just extremely symmetrical here. He runs very well,

:55:34.:55:43.

he is very balanced. The main thing is how you execute the race when you

:55:44.:55:47.

are in it. They are, he was on the outside of the lane and he didn't

:55:48.:55:49.

get the best start yesterday in deeper the merry hits. -- there, he

:55:50.:55:56.

was. He is not out of position at this point because he is not running

:55:57.:55:59.

the same sorts of times he was running at 13 and 14. He cannot make

:56:00.:56:05.

mistakes. He has to go out there and execute to perfection. To give

:56:06.:56:09.

himself a chance of getting into the finals. Exactly. Out in the warmup

:56:10.:56:17.

area, well, I am not sure anybody needs a warmup area because it is

:56:18.:56:19.

boiling, I think they are in the shaded area. We can see Yohan Blake

:56:20.:56:24.

and Usain Bolt, just chewing the fat, as you do. Looking very

:56:25.:56:30.

relaxed. Why wouldn't he be? You have been looking at Usain Bolt and

:56:31.:56:32.

Justin Gatlin. Let's begin with Justin Gatlin. Justin Gatlin, he has

:56:33.:56:39.

an unorthodox style. He bends at the waist, which is not what you

:56:40.:56:41.

normally do. But it is very effective for him. It allows him to

:56:42.:56:45.

create a tremendous amount of power and downforce. As he is stepping on

:56:46.:56:51.

the track, he is putting more force. If we could measure the force of

:56:52.:56:53.

each athlete and what they are putting into the ground, he is

:56:54.:56:57.

putting significantly more force into the ground. Now he is relaxing

:56:58.:57:01.

because of the very quick start that he got around the bend. We talk

:57:02.:57:05.

about him a lot as a 100 metre runner, but he is a fantastic 200

:57:06.:57:10.

metre runner. Very efficient. I believe he may be thinking, is this

:57:11.:57:15.

my opportunity? It is certainly his last opportunity against this man,

:57:16.:57:20.

is seen bulk, in order for him to possibly take away a championship

:57:21.:57:29.

title. -- this man, Usain Bolt. In contrast to Adam Gemili and Justin

:57:30.:57:32.

Gatlin, Usain Bolt rocks back and forth a lot. It doesn't matter. That

:57:33.:57:38.

is the point with Usain Bolt. He is so much better than everybody else

:57:39.:57:41.

because of what happens with his legs and his speed. He is so quick

:57:42.:57:46.

and he has such a big stride. What he is doing up top, which is very

:57:47.:57:50.

inefficient, doesn't really matter. He can afford to do that. The other

:57:51.:57:55.

guys can't afford to do that. That is the contrast and the difference

:57:56.:57:59.

between the three. Sean Merrett, of course, he was not very happy with

:58:00.:58:03.

his medal for the 100 metres. He really thought that he would have a

:58:04.:58:08.

shot at glory. Before 100 metres, sorry. He will be wanting to get

:58:09.:58:17.

himself in the mix. He has got a significant opportunity here, and he

:58:18.:58:21.

knows it. To come away from a career standpoint being a 400 metre Olympic

:58:22.:58:27.

gold-medallist, a 400 metre bronze medallist, which got the other day,

:58:28.:58:31.

and then to bring home any sort of medal in the 200 metres, he has been

:58:32.:58:36.

a 400 metre run-up role of his career, which dates back to 2005,

:58:37.:58:40.

that will be significant and he will be aware of that. He is a good

:58:41.:58:44.

position, a dangerous position the others. Nobody is going to say, old,

:58:45.:58:49.

it is Sean Merrett, I can't believe you let those 200 metre guys beat

:58:50.:58:52.

you. That will never happen. It is all greedy for him. -- all gravy.

:58:53.:59:04.

Danny Talbot, gravy is the last thing I would want in the world

:59:05.:59:07.

right now. Does anybody have any ice lollies?

:59:08.:59:11.

COMMENTATOR: Well, we have got jellybeans. Salted nuts. Yawner

:59:12.:59:19.

Radcliffe is in the stadium tonight and is providing refreshments if

:59:20.:59:22.

anybody wants any. I am going to ask a rhetorical question. What you

:59:23.:59:28.

think it took to get into the final as the fastest loser in 2012?

:59:29.:59:33.

Bearing in mind in the final, four men ran under 20 seconds. Duncan

:59:34.:59:38.

Blackley ran 19 point 94. You have the answer, I can tell. No, I don't.

:59:39.:59:43.

I will give you a guess. 20 point 35. 20.30 seven. Which is not that

:59:44.:59:52.

fast. Christian Malcolm was third in his semi-final, and didn't get

:59:53.:59:54.

through. It doesn't have to be crazy fast. The big guys, you would

:59:55.:00:00.

imagine, would be. What about Danny Talbot? Or Adam Gemili? Or

:00:01.:00:04.

Mitchell-Blake, to get through? If they are not in the top two, that

:00:05.:00:09.

mate be all that is required. -- that might be. Danny Talbot is in

:00:10.:00:20.

lane seven. Christophe Lemaitre had his best the other year, 19.8 zero.

:00:21.:00:28.

A brilliant run in the heats the Daniel Talbot. He looked very good.

:00:29.:00:32.

He has obviously got a chance to excel, to try to break his personal

:00:33.:00:37.

best. That is all he can really do against Sean Merrett, who is inside

:00:38.:00:38.

him in lane six. A world record race a few days ago,

:00:39.:00:54.

it seems so long ago now. How about this from Mexico? Herrera, the new

:00:55.:01:05.

Mexican recordholder. A huge experience, don't forget Jamaica had

:01:06.:01:11.

a one to three in London. Quakers back, to make up the threesome this

:01:12.:01:20.

time. Brenner 's of Costa Rica been going very well, a new national

:01:21.:01:34.

record qualifying for this semifinal yet to break the 20s. In very good

:01:35.:01:36.

form. Sorrillo, from Trinidad Tobago.

:01:37.:01:52.

The Trinidad man who won a medal in this event. So, Merrit, the quickest

:01:53.:02:01.

in the field, but it might not necessarily be how this pans out.

:02:02.:02:07.

Danny Talbot in laying seven. Not the quickest starter, not in his

:02:08.:02:16.

current form, Le Metre. The tall Aaron Brown in lane two of Canada.

:02:17.:02:24.

So, the top two, and the two fastest losers from the three semifinals as

:02:25.:02:39.

ever. Cleanly away. Danny Talbot gets a very good start. He has taken

:02:40.:02:46.

a good two metres out of Merrit. Sorrillo has run a killer bent but

:02:47.:02:50.

Merrit is leading. Le Metre is trying to get in. And look at this,

:02:51.:02:59.

Le Metre, well, there is a surprise! The Frenchman gets through and the

:03:00.:03:03.

rest were a little bit Distin. Christophe where did you get that

:03:04.:03:09.

from? Really good performance from the Frenchman and look what it means

:03:10.:03:15.

to him. -- distance. We expected Merrit to do well. I can tell you,

:03:16.:03:21.

Danny Talbot did what he had to do, just, with third spot and a new

:03:22.:03:28.

personal best. He has a chance. Do you think it was an omen? Let's hope

:03:29.:03:36.

so. He is in the third placed position. The new personal best and

:03:37.:03:43.

that was a great run from him. He challenged the Frenchman. He said

:03:44.:03:54.

you have to pass me again. He was not intimidated by anyone in the

:03:55.:04:05.

field. And Merrit looks so balanced, bouncing down the track, full of

:04:06.:04:12.

energy. We have seen this on numerous occasions, when he is at

:04:13.:04:16.

his best, he seems to haul people in, and he has managed to do that

:04:17.:04:21.

again. Well, it was a great start there from Danny Talbot, taking a

:04:22.:04:27.

little bit out of Merrit early, up on Christophe Lemaitre, and LaShawn

:04:28.:04:36.

Merritt looks so relaxed. Very surprising, Christophe LeMay after

:04:37.:04:51.

that personal best -- Lemaitre. Very nice speed endurance. A little bit

:04:52.:04:57.

of rocking back and forth in contrast to Lemaitre with Danny

:04:58.:05:01.

Talbot, but the speed injury and that he allows him to get through to

:05:02.:05:07.

the finish and qualified, hopefully, and that was impressive. Well, you

:05:08.:05:15.

said yesterday you wanted APB. You have a great chance of making the

:05:16.:05:21.

final -- you wanted a PB. Last year and in Beijing I had a PB. Tell me

:05:22.:05:29.

about the race from your perspective, because you had

:05:30.:05:32.

Lemaitre on the outside, surprisingly doing better than

:05:33.:05:35.

recently, try the new through as well. Definitely. To be honest, I

:05:36.:05:41.

had a really good start and then I almost relaxed around the bend too

:05:42.:05:47.

much. Looking at the replay, I was very cautious around the bend,

:05:48.:05:49.

trying to leave something for the home straight, and maybe a should

:05:50.:05:55.

have gone harder, but I did run a personal best. So you are telling me

:05:56.:06:02.

there is more to come off that PB if you are spot on? Every athlete

:06:03.:06:05.

thinks they have more in the locker, that is true for me, but we will

:06:06.:06:09.

have to wait and see. Hopefully I get into the final and then tomorrow

:06:10.:06:14.

maybe I will go faster. You have done so well tonight, well done.

:06:15.:06:21.

Thanks very much, thank you. STUDIO: Yeah, excellent run from Danny

:06:22.:06:27.

Talbot, 20.25. Plenty of athletes to come in the semifinals. Merritt is

:06:28.:06:33.

through and, surprisingly, Lemaitre, a return to form for the tall

:06:34.:06:41.

Frenchman. Well, you might have heard the slight increase in volume

:06:42.:06:44.

in the stadium and that was when Usain Bolt walked onto the track. He

:06:45.:06:49.

looks like he means business tonight. He is not doing quite as

:06:50.:06:53.

much playful banter with the crowd. He wants to get through this. We

:06:54.:06:57.

have seen this a little bit, he has been a little bit more serious and I

:06:58.:07:02.

was wondering if, it you know, how his approach was gonna BNS, and he

:07:03.:07:06.

wasn't thrilled with the 100 metre time, so I think he knows he might

:07:07.:07:10.

be under a little more pressure here -- you know. May be taking a

:07:11.:07:12.

different approach. Thank you, Michael. Andrew Cotter is your

:07:13.:07:18.

commentator. Yes, part of a very strong semi-final here. You see

:07:19.:07:25.

Andre De Grasse outside him, and just outside him is Adam Gemili.

:07:26.:07:31.

There is a smile but we have talked about it, I think he is a different

:07:32.:07:38.

animal now, it is a smile that is combined with the steel as well, he

:07:39.:07:43.

is serious when he gets going. And Andre De Grasse, bronze in the 100,

:07:44.:07:47.

a season best of 20.09 in the first round. So, with Gemili and De

:07:48.:07:59.

Grasse, the fastest loser will certainly be under threat, but the

:08:00.:08:11.

welcome, again, to we all know who. I don't even need to say his name,

:08:12.:08:19.

it doesn't need to be mentioned. Yaqoob from Bahrain with a very

:08:20.:08:24.

surprising 20.19 to take a big chunk off the record. And Webb, he didn't

:08:25.:08:32.

look very impressive in the first round. And the Cuban, Skyers, in the

:08:33.:08:46.

first lane. So, a full look at the lineup, because the two meant

:08:47.:08:53.

outside the lineup with Gemili who we didn't see, the Turkish athlete.

:08:54.:09:04.

So, Bolt once again, asks for silence. Gemili was only two lanes

:09:05.:09:08.

inside of him the Anniversary Games when he ran quickly. And he said

:09:09.:09:13.

after his first-round heat, Gemili, that he felt uncomfortable around

:09:14.:09:17.

the bend. On the inside he was in the second lane, here he is in the

:09:18.:09:20.

six lane, two will go through automatically and Danny Talbot

:09:21.:09:23.

hanging on, the first of the fastest losers were 20.2 five. -- with

:09:24.:09:33.

20.25. Gemili is looking good, but Bolt is moving around. A good run on

:09:34.:09:39.

the inside from Webb. Bolt is clean. Gemili is in a clean position. It is

:09:40.:09:49.

Bolt and he might have got him on the line. 19.79 to Usain Bolt. The

:09:50.:09:55.

quickest time for him this season in the 200 metres. And there was more

:09:56.:10:02.

to come. A sheet of the head replaces the smile from Gemili. He

:10:03.:10:09.

feels he had more there as well -- a shake of the head. He has run 20.0

:10:10.:10:13.

eight. He has third place as well. The fastest losers are Gemili and

:10:14.:10:22.

the other but they are in a good position with one semi-final to go

:10:23.:10:28.

-- 20.08. He has an excellent chance of hanging on. The next semi-final

:10:29.:10:37.

is loaded with talent. Out of the blocks, we were all watching Usain

:10:38.:10:44.

Bolt. My eyes were fixed on De Grasse from Canada and his battle

:10:45.:10:47.

with Gemili because I think they will be battling for this automatic

:10:48.:10:53.

position. You can see when they come to the home straight, De Grasse just

:10:54.:10:57.

has it over Adam. He has faster basic speed, lots of injuries as you

:10:58.:11:02.

can see, as it is demonstrated, easily away from Adam and Eve and

:11:03.:11:06.

laughing and joking with Usain Bolt as he approaches the line in a new

:11:07.:11:15.

Canadian world record -- Adam and even laughing. Well, it was a great

:11:16.:11:25.

start from Bolt. Very nice around the bend, Gemili, and a good

:11:26.:11:28.

transition, but then he got really tight right here, and just look at

:11:29.:11:33.

Gemili in contrast to De Grasse and Bolt and he just got really, really

:11:34.:11:37.

tight at the end. The shoulders up high and that makes it very tough.

:11:38.:11:42.

The more you tighten up at the end of this, the less efficient you

:11:43.:11:47.

become, and it just tightens up and it gets tougher and tougher and

:11:48.:11:52.

tougher. This was an interesting run from Bolt, he was out fast and

:11:53.:11:56.

quick, he let off the gas a little and De Grasse decided to come up and

:11:57.:12:00.

get him, so a little banter between them, having a little fun, Gemili

:12:01.:12:05.

had a quick time. There is more for him if he runs that race. If he gets

:12:06.:12:09.

into the finals and he can relax on the home stretch. So, Adam, advice

:12:10.:12:17.

from Michael Johnson to relax on the home straight and you will go faster

:12:18.:12:20.

and you will be, hopefully, in the final in the first place. I hope so.

:12:21.:12:24.

I am disappointed with that run. I am in a lot better shape than 20.08.

:12:25.:12:31.

We will wait and see. This guy, yeah... , and have a word with the

:12:32.:12:38.

BBC, just quickly. -- Usain Bolt, come and have a quick word. You

:12:39.:12:42.

stormed through and played a couple of games with De Grasse as well. He

:12:43.:12:47.

was supposed to slow down but he didn't. I was saying, what are you

:12:48.:12:52.

doing, it is the semifinals. He said he had to push me, so whatever. You

:12:53.:12:56.

said you were tight after the 100 but you are not showing it on the

:12:57.:13:02.

track. I was a little bit lazy. I don't know why. I executed it well

:13:03.:13:08.

so that is key. Steve call you a legend when you did the 44 years ago

:13:09.:13:13.

-- called. What if you end up doing the sprint double tomorrow? I don't

:13:14.:13:17.

know. What will they call you? When I crossed the line, he said I am

:13:18.:13:23.

immortal now, so I love that. Thank you. Into talk. And Adam, thank you

:13:24.:13:30.

for being patient -- thank you for stopping into talk. He is the man

:13:31.:13:35.

and we have to grab them when we can. Your performance, you are

:13:36.:13:41.

clearly not very happy, and yet 20.08, there is much more to come.

:13:42.:13:45.

It is good but I expect better from myself. And I know I am in good

:13:46.:13:51.

shape, I am in better shape than that, and it wasn't a very well

:13:52.:13:55.

executed run, like I said, it was very tight, and I didn't run my own

:13:56.:14:00.

race, but 20.08, I might make the final and hopefully if it does I

:14:01.:14:04.

will get it right tomorrow. With all of the people that are waiting up it

:14:05.:14:07.

is not amazing so I apologise for that. So I did make my best shot.

:14:08.:14:13.

Thank you for being patient. Apologising for 20.08. De Grasse had

:14:14.:14:19.

something important to say to Usain Bolt but he had to catch him up.

:14:20.:14:23.

Usain Bolt pushed. Stop running so hard, I don't want to have to do

:14:24.:14:34.

this to you. He took the win. Bold and De Grasse into the final. Gemili

:14:35.:14:40.

in a chance to go through as a fastest loser. It have a look at the

:14:41.:14:44.

result -- Usain Bolt. He thinks he can go sub 20. Usain Bolt is

:14:45.:14:52.

through. Sadly Danny Talbot is out. Gemili in the fastest loser

:14:53.:14:57.

position. We are into round five of the long jump, and Reese has two

:14:58.:15:01.

vows on the bounce, so the best so far is 6.79 -- fouls. Oh, it is

:15:02.:15:10.

another big jump from Reese, this time it is white. And Reese, as

:15:11.:15:17.

expected, well, the pressure was mounting. Here in round five it

:15:18.:15:21.

looks as though she has done something to gain the lead that she

:15:22.:15:29.

was expected to do. 7.09, she is comfortably into the lead. Well, at

:15:30.:15:36.

the other end of the stadium, Walcott from Trinidad Tobago, the

:15:37.:15:41.

youngest man to win the title in qualification here today. He really

:15:42.:15:48.

likes it. It is 83 metres. That is a long way. Well, that is easily the

:15:49.:15:52.

best we have seen so far. He came through this season not looking

:15:53.:15:56.

great. I have said too many who were watching... When you have won once

:15:57.:16:04.

there is a bit of pride -- to many. That is a big throw, that is close

:16:05.:16:09.

to 90 metres. His lifetime best is 90 metres and 16 centimetres.

:16:10.:16:18.

Beautiful throw. 88.68 two Walcott in qualification.

:16:19.:16:20.

Tomorrow is the final of the 200 metres and at the moment, Adam

:16:21.:16:31.

Gemili is in a qualifying position. It was important that he finish in

:16:32.:16:38.

third position there. It was very close. He made a deep to get third

:16:39.:16:51.

ahead of Guliyev -- dip. Justin Gatlin going in this race. I wonder

:16:52.:16:59.

if he caught a glimpse as they were waiting to come out of the previous

:17:00.:17:05.

semifinal. That was quite quick. A new national record for Canada from

:17:06.:17:09.

De Grasse. Usain Bolt had to run a little harder than he wanted to. And

:17:10.:17:18.

how about Mitchell-Blake? He missed the British record earlier this

:17:19.:17:26.

year. He was at Louisiana State University. He moved to Jamaica when

:17:27.:17:35.

he was 13. He says he has always been British and ran in the British

:17:36.:17:40.

junior team for a couple of years and has now entered the senior team

:17:41.:17:47.

with a real impact. What can he do here? He has Martina and Yohan

:17:48.:17:54.

Blake. Blake will try and make it at least two Jamaicans in the final.

:17:55.:17:59.

Let us go through them one by one. There is Martina. He has been

:18:00.:18:05.

running quite well this year, rediscovering good form. Close to 20

:18:06.:18:10.

seconds as well. The European champion at the 100 metre. He has a

:18:11.:18:16.

tendency to run on the line in the 200 metre, he needs to watch that.

:18:17.:18:28.

Mitchell-Blake, 22 years old, 1995. Yohan Blake, the silver-medallist in

:18:29.:18:34.

an incredibly quick time behind Usain Bolt in London. The fastest

:18:35.:18:40.

non- winning 200 metre time. Alonso Edward, you can go back to lean and

:18:41.:18:45.

this is the man who followed him home and he was only 19 than stop --

:18:46.:18:55.

back to Berlin. Hortelano, the new European champion because Martina

:18:56.:19:01.

ran ahead of him across the line. He ran 20 point 12 to qualify for this.

:19:02.:19:11.

Justin Gatlin. He was not booed as much at this time as he was in the

:19:12.:19:17.

100 metres. Matera Galvan from Italy. He reached the final in the

:19:18.:19:26.

European champions. And then on the inside, ??MACRO1 of Greece. He made

:19:27.:19:32.

it through to this semi with a personal best. Justin Gatlin from

:19:33.:19:43.

lane three, lanes 67 and eight. Hortelano should not be discarded I.

:19:44.:19:52.

In fact, I have only ignored two of them. It is hard, very hard. The

:19:53.:20:01.

time to watch for Adam Gemili is 20 weight. -- 20.08.

:20:02.:20:16.

And Yohan Blake makes a cracking start. He is going well. Edward is

:20:17.:20:25.

coming and so was Justin Gatlin and Mitchell-Blake needs to stay with

:20:26.:20:29.

them. All six have a chance. Martina is coming through. He comes Martina

:20:30.:20:41.

and Gatlin has dropped out. 20.08 is the winning time and Gatlin is not

:20:42.:20:47.

in the final. I will repeat that, Justin Gatlin is not in the final.

:20:48.:20:53.

He is storming off and he knows it. Gemili will make it through and that

:20:54.:20:58.

means that Guliyev will join him as the fastest loser. Mitchell-Blake

:20:59.:21:06.

did his best. That was a difficult semifinal and it was any's race.

:21:07.:21:11.

Mitchell-Blake was perhaps the only one not in with a chance with 50 to

:21:12.:21:17.

go. It was an exciting semifinal, wasn't it? I think this is what we

:21:18.:21:21.

like to see an athletics when a race with big names is competitive and

:21:22.:21:26.

people, sometimes, they merely forget, people you just forget and

:21:27.:21:31.

they sneak through. Alonso Edward has been a medallist in major

:21:32.:21:35.

championships before. He kept a cool head with all of the big names

:21:36.:21:39.

around him and managed to ease himself through to a final with a

:21:40.:21:48.

time of 20.07. Look at the people behind him. Justin Gatlin trying to

:21:49.:21:53.

stick with him. It will be interesting to see the head high

:21:54.:21:58.

vision, if he is giving up or just tired. Semifinals at Olympic Games,

:21:59.:22:10.

hey? Yohan Blake and Justin Gatlin got amazing starts and blasted out.

:22:11.:22:13.

It looked as if they were both going to take control of the race but then

:22:14.:22:18.

look at what happens here. They all come off the band together and what

:22:19.:22:23.

Justin Gatlin does is make a small mistake and relaxes. He did not

:22:24.:22:27.

realise that they were up on mum. He thought he was the best and he

:22:28.:22:30.

thought he had a lead but he did not. He then tried to get back into

:22:31.:22:34.

it but it was far too late and he could not get back into it with the

:22:35.:22:41.

class of field like this. He ran out of time. That was a huge mistake.

:22:42.:22:46.

Gatlin will know that. Alonso Edward took advantage of that mistake and

:22:47.:22:51.

ran a very good time for him. 20.07. Quite a strange race. Martina also

:22:52.:22:58.

getting himself back in it, getting back into a final. This was a very

:22:59.:23:05.

strange race. Very close on the line but no doubt about it, Justin Gatlin

:23:06.:23:10.

is not in the final. Due to a huge mistake. Yohan Blake, I am sure the

:23:11.:23:18.

issue with him is that he has had so much time off and he was not able to

:23:19.:23:22.

run under 20 seconds and probably went out far too fast for the

:23:23.:23:29.

condition and the shape he is in. He gave it everything he could but it

:23:30.:23:33.

was not to be, given he has returned from injury and has not had the sort

:23:34.:23:36.

of training that would allow him to sustain that

:23:37.:23:40.

Speed. Gatlin walked straight. He must have known and recognised the

:23:41.:23:51.

mistake he made. He is speaking to American TV. It was not good enough.

:23:52.:23:55.

Remember I said at the beginning of the semifinals, I said in 2012,

:23:56.:24:04.

20.37 was good enough to go through as fastest loser. That was 16th spot

:24:05.:24:09.

this time. That third race was the slowest of the for a but it was

:24:10.:24:15.

dramatic. No Yohan Blake, no Justin Gatlin in the final. Usain Bolt will

:24:16.:24:20.

head the qualifiers, like always. 19 eight. De Grasse. Merritt. Lemaitre.

:24:21.:24:33.

Alonso Edward. And Gemili and Guliyev are the two fastest losers.

:24:34.:24:41.

Churandy Martina has made his third Olympic 200 metre final from an

:24:42.:24:48.

outside lane. We are in the fifth round of the long jump at the

:24:49.:24:53.

moment. Spanovic is best at the moment. Pushed into third place with

:24:54.:24:59.

a big jump by Reese. Jazmin Sawyers is in eighth Place. That is some

:25:00.:25:11.

jump from the Serbian. Well, this possibly looks over seven metres.

:25:12.:25:19.

Her lifetime best is seven metres. It years 7.08. A new record. How

:25:20.:25:39.

does Bartoletta respond? Look at this. She has produced something

:25:40.:25:45.

special in this fifth round. They are feeding off each other as they

:25:46.:25:54.

so often do. It is 7.17. A lifetime best for Bartoletta in the fifth

:25:55.:26:01.

round. It is not over yet. Very good speed on the runway. She is quite

:26:02.:26:10.

quick. Absolutely enormous leap for Bartoletta. That may take the title

:26:11.:26:21.

here. There are many Dutch people in the house tonight and there is a lot

:26:22.:26:25.

of orange around and when Martina went through there was an enormous

:26:26.:26:34.

roar. And Daphne Schippers is coming up shortly. This is the event where

:26:35.:26:42.

she will feel she can do well. It is the event where she think she can

:26:43.:26:47.

dominate. She has been consistent this year and has not run as fast

:26:48.:26:54.

this year is she did last year, when she shocked the world at the World

:26:55.:26:57.

Championships in Beijing but this is what she has been targeting. She

:26:58.:27:03.

will know that her main competition will be Elaine Thompson and others.

:27:04.:27:08.

It will be a difficult race and I expect it to be tight. She will

:27:09.:27:11.

probably not lead at the beginning but what we will see is that the end

:27:12.:27:15.

she has a long stride and is able to do some Usain Bolt type things at

:27:16.:27:21.

the end. Like what we see him in the second half of the 200 metre race,

:27:22.:27:26.

when he can come through. She can do that over 200 metres. And

:27:27.:27:30.

Asher-Smith, Dina Asher-Smith. She was hanging onto ways to see if she

:27:31.:27:35.

qualified as fastest loser. She made the final in last year as well. You

:27:36.:27:42.

can look at her and Dafne for us. Looking at Dina, another similarity

:27:43.:27:48.

with Adam Gemili is that she is very good from a technical standpoint. If

:27:49.:27:52.

you watch you do not see a lot of wasted motion. She is a great size

:27:53.:27:56.

for this event and she can never gave the bend quite well. In

:27:57.:28:06.

contrast, Schippers cannot navigate the bend well. Schippers has a huge

:28:07.:28:13.

advantage here. Dina, going backwards, has a disadvantage with a

:28:14.:28:17.

shorter stride and without having what looks like having a lot of

:28:18.:28:23.

speed and endurance or has not been effective in terms of that because

:28:24.:28:27.

you saw her going backwards there. She has focused more on the 100

:28:28.:28:32.

metres this year. But quite good. She got a little ragged and seemed

:28:33.:28:38.

that will tired in a particular race but Schippers is the class of the

:28:39.:28:41.

field and Dina will need to get back to her personal best of 22.07 to

:28:42.:28:49.

even get close to these other runners. 200 metres, with saw a

:28:50.:28:57.

qualification for this, it is equally strong as the 100 metre

:28:58.:29:02.

field. A world-class long jump around a terrific athlete. Had a

:29:03.:29:06.

wonderful 100 metre race, got a silver medal for. Perfectly built

:29:07.:29:14.

for this. She brings the 100 metre speed, is quite quick around the

:29:15.:29:19.

bend. And quite efficient as an athlete, which you need to be here.

:29:20.:29:24.

She also has the ability to pull away from the field here in the 200

:29:25.:29:31.

metres. I expect that she and Schippers will be extremely close

:29:32.:29:36.

coming down the home stretch. The Dutch are making their presence felt

:29:37.:29:42.

here tonight. There is a lot of orange around and lots of chanting

:29:43.:29:47.

as well. Fun chanting, it must be said, and they are getting into the

:29:48.:29:52.

spirit of things. A late night for those young ladies. They want to see

:29:53.:29:56.

their hero Dafne win gold tonight. What do you think, Denise? It is a

:29:57.:30:02.

big night for Dafne and Holland. They will stayed up to watch this

:30:03.:30:07.

because she is a poster girl. She has brought everyone together

:30:08.:30:10.

tonight because they believe that she has a realistic opportunity of

:30:11.:30:15.

gaining an Olympic title. It is incredible, the transformation she

:30:16.:30:19.

has made over the last few years and she is ready. She ran 21.96 in the

:30:20.:30:28.

semifinal so she will be difficult to beat. Denise was dressed tonight

:30:29.:30:36.

to support Dafne. She is in Orange. Michael is wearing blue. Is this a

:30:37.:30:42.

head to head? I trained for a while in Holland so this is a bit of a nod

:30:43.:30:47.

for them. Let's handover now for the 200 metre final. Looking as if this

:30:48.:30:55.

could be an all-time classic here. Do not forget Dina Asher-Smith, from

:30:56.:31:01.

Great Britain, she is in this in lane two. By her own admission not

:31:02.:31:07.

running particularly well, not as well she would like more as well she

:31:08.:31:11.

did last year but she is in the final.

:31:12.:31:28.

Ahye of Trinidad, they have never had a finalist. There are the guys.

:31:29.:31:37.

Oh, they need to swap seats, don't they? I think the guy with the G is

:31:38.:31:46.

not paying attention. Come on, G, where are you? He is deeply opposed.

:31:47.:31:56.

Anyway... You can go back to 1948, the first time this event was held

:31:57.:32:01.

in the Olympic Games, it was one by the great Dutch hero Fannie

:32:02.:32:12.

Lancascombe. Jamaica have had some heroes, a hero of Elaine Thompson. A

:32:13.:32:18.

lot of history tied up in this race, or tradition shall we say, they are

:32:19.:32:24.

all looking to make their own history and Lalova in some ways has

:32:25.:32:31.

already done that. 2004 and 2016. And Ahye making history, the first

:32:32.:32:38.

Trinidad Tobago woman to make it into the final. Well, Elaine

:32:39.:32:43.

Thompson withdrew from the Jamaican trials with a hamstring problem and

:32:44.:32:47.

everyone was questioning if she would be good at the Olympics. The

:32:48.:32:53.

answer is yes. Can she make the double and emulate Shelly Ann Fraser

:32:54.:33:06.

Price, her training partner? Tory Bowe, the US champion. -- Bowie. And

:33:07.:33:15.

the world champion, incredible support for Schippers. Ran sub 22 in

:33:16.:33:21.

the semi-final, quicker than she did in regime last year. And then in the

:33:22.:33:27.

final of Beijing she ran an incredible 2163. And the Ivory

:33:28.:33:35.

Coast, Ta Lou, with a personal best in the semi-final. European share

:33:36.:33:46.

and he, 20 years of age, still in great talent, Deena Asher-Smith in

:33:47.:33:51.

the Olympic final. Great achievement in lane two. And what a surprise for

:33:52.:34:02.

Stevens. I don't being at the beginning of the season she would

:34:03.:34:07.

have made it through not only the American finals but to get into the

:34:08.:34:13.

Olympic final. We have two of the top five fastest women ever in this

:34:14.:34:21.

race. We have the world champion, Schippers, in this event, and the

:34:22.:34:25.

Olympic champion over 100 metres, Thompson, and in between them, Bowie

:34:26.:34:39.

of the United States. The women's 200 metres final. Schippers gets out

:34:40.:34:52.

well, so does Bowie. Thompson going well in the yellow of Jamaica,

:34:53.:34:56.

flashing away from Schippers. She has to keep her insight because

:34:57.:35:01.

Thompson has the metres, and now Schippers is trying to run her down

:35:02.:35:04.

and she is coming quickly, but the line is coming for Elaine Thompson

:35:05.:35:08.

and she is the double gold-medallist! Schippers falls to

:35:09.:35:17.

the ground in deference to a great champion, a great double champion,

:35:18.:35:22.

Thompson is the new star of world sprinting. Schippers did everything

:35:23.:35:29.

that she could. She had too much to make up coming on the bend. Surely

:35:30.:35:36.

she knew she had won it. It is almost as though she has just

:35:37.:35:44.

realised it. Well, Elaine Thompson comes from a little community called

:35:45.:35:51.

Nana Ground in Manchester, Jamaica. 21.78, that is her winning time, it

:35:52.:35:58.

is not even a personal best. How on earth did she not think she had won

:35:59.:36:03.

that? It is almost as though it has come as a surprise, and now the

:36:04.:36:08.

emotion comes. Tory Bowie did take the bronze medal and they were quite

:36:09.:36:21.

a way back from the big two. We expected Schippers to come but it

:36:22.:36:24.

did not quite do what she did last year. She couldn't finish as well as

:36:25.:36:28.

she did in Beijing. It was a great race. It was exactly what you see at

:36:29.:36:36.

an Olympic final. The fastest women on the planet going head-to-head of

:36:37.:36:42.

half a lap. And look at Elaine Thompson, still on the floor. I

:36:43.:36:47.

guess it is all sinking in. She is a double Olympic champion. As you

:36:48.:36:52.

said, I think it was one on this bend. In contrast to yesterday,

:36:53.:36:57.

Elaine Thompson blasted around the turn with a lot of control. She put

:36:58.:37:01.

herself in a good position to strike well, to get this lovely stride that

:37:02.:37:05.

she has, and look how she is easing herself away from Schippers. She

:37:06.:37:11.

knows from last year's experience that if she gets close to her she

:37:12.:37:16.

can outrun her, as she did in Beijing, but this time she couldn't

:37:17.:37:20.

get to her. You can see a Elaine Thompson want that line to come

:37:21.:37:24.

because she also has a memory from last year and she knows Schippers

:37:25.:37:28.

will be charging at the back end. She leads, she takes the title and

:37:29.:37:34.

Schippers, well, that is a familiar finish nowadays, isn't it, someone

:37:35.:37:37.

ending up on the floor, diving for the loan. -- line. Well, it was a

:37:38.:37:49.

very quick start, certainly by Elaine Thompson, already making up

:37:50.:37:56.

the field, a big gain on Michelle on the outside, and she comes off the

:37:57.:37:59.

bend with a tremendous gap, and never were they going to come back,

:38:00.:38:04.

because she was fresh. We were wondering if she was a little bit

:38:05.:38:09.

tired after that 100 metre race, and she didn't look that great in the

:38:10.:38:13.

semifinals, but this was class here, just perfect execution of this race,

:38:14.:38:17.

similar to what we saw with the world record in the 400 metres the

:38:18.:38:21.

other day, just being on the outside, knowing that her condition

:38:22.:38:24.

was going to be on the inside. She never focus at all on the

:38:25.:38:29.

competition, she just ran her race, and you can see her pushing off each

:38:30.:38:34.

step, very, very efficient at the end of that. It was never, ever any

:38:35.:38:43.

competition for Elaine Thompson. So, Deena Asher-Smith scraped and got

:38:44.:38:50.

into this final, looked a little better in this race, she executed on

:38:51.:38:53.

the bend very well, got on the inside of the bend and came off,

:38:54.:38:57.

this is when she came under pressure, but I think that she ran

:38:58.:39:02.

well knowing that she would not be able to compete with the race

:39:03.:39:05.

winners and with the medallists, and she ran her race and stayed very,

:39:06.:39:10.

very relaxed, in contrast to what we saw with Adam Gemili in the

:39:11.:39:14.

semi-final heat where he was very tense and very tight at this point

:39:15.:39:18.

in the race, she was running her own race, running full-time, not focused

:39:19.:39:23.

on the winners, focused on her own race and letting the race come to

:39:24.:39:26.

her and letting the finish line come, so I am very impressed with

:39:27.:39:30.

that, it was a good race from her, and that will certainly give her

:39:31.:39:38.

confidence going into the future. Yes, and for Deena that was the best

:39:39.:39:41.

performance from a British athlete in the Olympics 200 metres final

:39:42.:39:48.

since Cathy back in 1994, when she came forth, so well done to her.

:39:49.:39:52.

Look at this. I wasn't sure that she had thought she had won, I mean, it

:39:53.:39:56.

was clear that she had won. She waited for her name. Maybe she just

:39:57.:40:02.

couldn't believe it. Great reaction. And you know her great-grandmother

:40:03.:40:08.

is 85 and lives in the UK. And if she is watching, if you are staying

:40:09.:40:12.

up late, I am sorry you don't know your name -- I am sorry I don't know

:40:13.:40:16.

your name, but I hope you're having a party. Elaine Thompson, 21.78 the

:40:17.:40:25.

winning time, Schippers' 21.88 gets Silva, and bronze medal for the USA

:40:26.:40:29.

with Bowie. Dean Asher-Smith, very well done in fifth place, she is

:40:30.:40:35.

with Phil. When you saw the list, Olympic final, 200 metres, you came

:40:36.:40:42.

fifth. The same as last year. I am really happy, especially after the

:40:43.:40:46.

shaky qualification. I was glad I could go out and put a performance

:40:47.:40:50.

which I hope... I think I could have done better but it is better than I

:40:51.:40:54.

wanted -- it is closer than I wanted to be. I was tense at the end and

:40:55.:40:59.

that cost me some places but it is a learning curve. Hopefully I will

:41:00.:41:03.

have more World Championships and hopefully more Olympic Games to get

:41:04.:41:06.

it right. I was going to ask you about that. From last time to this,

:41:07.:41:13.

was it a big lesson, or not? Not really. We had some injury problems,

:41:14.:41:18.

so that affected my training. We had to stop four bit. So I am just happy

:41:19.:41:23.

to be here -- stop for a bit. I am closer to my personal best. At the

:41:24.:41:30.

age of 20, you have many years ahead of you. Going ahead, what goals have

:41:31.:41:35.

you set yourself, personal targets for next year's London World

:41:36.:41:39.

Championships? They are gonna be absolutely amazing and I know that

:41:40.:41:43.

the team is buzzing after so many positive results, and my personal

:41:44.:41:47.

favourite was Sophie in the hammer, that was incredible, so London will

:41:48.:41:50.

be good. In future I don't know, I want to get higher up the placings.

:41:51.:41:54.

Fifth in the world at 19 and 20, I really can't complain. And just to

:41:55.:41:59.

be analytic finalist and to be in the mix was great. And you have the

:42:00.:42:03.

relay action to come up as well, so I wish you well for that. Thank you.

:42:04.:42:11.

Well, we have some great young talent in the British team, there

:42:12.:42:18.

was so years, eight in the long jump, well done to her, and fitting

:42:19.:42:23.

the 200 metres, Deena Ashley Smith. She will be delighted. Her mother is

:42:24.:42:26.

in the stadium. So many family members have come. They have been

:42:27.:42:31.

awarded with some great performances -- Dean Asher-Smith. We are in the

:42:32.:42:34.

last round of the long jump. Silly as is eight. Reese can change her

:42:35.:42:42.

position. She has seen her teammate go-ahead in the fifth round. 7.17.

:42:43.:42:51.

It is a big jump from Reese. Well... Not sure what she is saying. We saw

:42:52.:42:56.

her win the world indoors early this year in the last round and she might

:42:57.:43:03.

have just done it again. It is 7.15! Wow, just two centimetres shy of

:43:04.:43:15.

what might have been a victory. Bartoletta, still to respond,

:43:16.:43:18.

whatever this job will be, but at the moment it is Reese in second

:43:19.:43:26.

place. Spanovic, then, in the last round. She jumped a new national

:43:27.:43:34.

record of 7.08 in the fifth round. Last chance to improve her Olympic

:43:35.:43:39.

final bronze. Can she turned into something better? It is a big

:43:40.:43:46.

effort. -- turn it. What an end to this Olympic competition. Not sure

:43:47.:43:56.

what that means either. But 7.08 in the fifth, 7.05 in the last round,

:43:57.:44:01.

she is in the bronze medal position. So, then, Bartoletta, she has won,

:44:02.:44:10.

just having a jump to show what he can do. It is another long way out

:44:11.:44:15.

into that sandpit. Well, look at that. Celebrations for the world

:44:16.:44:20.

champion from last year. Bartoletta is the Olympic champion. Coach Reina

:44:21.:44:30.

Rider up there. We have seen her offering words of support. And

:44:31.:44:40.

technical insight. Bartoletta gold. Tiffany Porter and her sister, Cindy

:44:41.:44:46.

Ofili, moments away from an Olympic final. A special moment. Just might

:44:47.:44:56.

you know, I told you that Tiff is very religious, she has got a lot of

:44:57.:44:59.

faith, fate in her own ability and obviously has her big sister. She

:45:00.:45:05.

wants to be the inspiration for her little sister who has done

:45:06.:45:08.

fantastically well to put them both in the final -- faith. I mean, how

:45:09.:45:12.

fantastic is that. It has brought a tear to your eye and I think all of

:45:13.:45:16.

us here in the studio choked up watching that moment, because, you

:45:17.:45:20.

know, I think family comes here to watch, they share in their children

:45:21.:45:24.

or their partner's experiences, but to have a family member line with

:45:25.:45:29.

you in a final, there cannot be anything greater, can there? Yeah, I

:45:30.:45:35.

mean, it is gonna be interesting to see how they actually handle this,

:45:36.:45:38.

and should either one of them actually get a medal, you know, the

:45:39.:45:42.

other one will be so supportive, but it is gonna be tough because it is a

:45:43.:45:47.

really tough field, I mean, it is gonna be real, real tough. Let's

:45:48.:45:52.

just pause now, because the 110 metre hurdle medal ceremony has just

:45:53.:45:56.

begun. That was wonderful singing there

:45:57.:46:50.

from Omar McLeod. He seems like a good guy. He was so excited the

:46:51.:46:54.

other day when he was doing an interview and he is quite a good

:46:55.:46:58.

guy. It was good to see him win because it was a difficult race.

:46:59.:47:03.

There were so many people falling down and not getting through but he

:47:04.:47:10.

ran well in the semifinals and was able to consistently get through. It

:47:11.:47:15.

is one thing being a favourite coming into the championship and

:47:16.:47:19.

then being able to deliver. We have seen how difficult that has been

:47:20.:47:24.

throughout the competition. That he did enjoy his moment, didn't he?

:47:25.:47:28.

That is one of the best smiles I have seen. And it is rare out not to

:47:29.:47:33.

hear the American announced them ringing out for a hurdles race.

:47:34.:47:41.

Nobody on the rostrum for the United States as well. Let's hear from the

:47:42.:47:50.

new speed Queen, at Elaine Thompson. A remarkable performance and a

:47:51.:47:53.

double Olympic champion. How special is that? It is very special. Since I

:47:54.:48:03.

was a child, watching Veronica Campbell and other races, putting my

:48:04.:48:08.

name up there is a great feeling. You train with Shelly Ann Fraser

:48:09.:48:12.

Price and she was cheering for you. What tribute would you pay to her

:48:13.:48:20.

for her inspiration? She is a friend and training partner. She had a

:48:21.:48:26.

difficult season and I am happy for her. A big thank you to her and I

:48:27.:48:33.

love you so much. To defeat Dafne Schippers, that was always going to

:48:34.:48:38.

be a difficult task. It was a difficult run. I had a long season

:48:39.:48:46.

to come here and I think I shone tonight. And let me ask you, earlier

:48:47.:48:53.

this year you were injured? Were you worried? A little worried but pain

:48:54.:49:00.

is part of the sport. I had to overcome it. And here you are, a

:49:01.:49:06.

double gold-medallist. Thank you so much. Elaine Thompson. The hurdles

:49:07.:49:14.

out so now we just need some hurdlers. This race will be going

:49:15.:49:18.

off in a few minutes time and that gives us a chance to have a look

:49:19.:49:24.

back at how the semifinal heat went earlier this evening and how they

:49:25.:49:38.

qualified. A great start by Porter. Brianna Rollins going strongly and

:49:39.:49:41.

the American is coming through. Tiffany Porter needs to hang on.

:49:42.:49:48.

Rollins took it. Seymour coming through in lane nine.

:49:49.:49:59.

Phylicia George is in this as well as Queen. Quinn is coming through

:50:00.:50:06.

and the Puerto Rican is pushing them. She hits the hurdle near Ali.

:50:07.:50:16.

What a shame. That was going to be the race of her life. The

:50:17.:50:21.

19-year-old was pushing all of the way they are. That may be why she

:50:22.:50:33.

hit the hurdle. -- there. A good clean start and Cindy Ofili just a

:50:34.:50:37.

little behind. She is coming back now. Castlin going strongly. Ofili

:50:38.:50:44.

and they are the two automatic qualifiers. We are looking at times

:50:45.:50:51.

now. There was a gap that two thirds so we are watching the time is

:50:52.:50:54.

coming in. Tiffany Porter is watching as well. Her younger sister

:50:55.:51:01.

is through. 12.71. I think she gave the OK. -- may be OK. And she was

:51:02.:51:12.

and she is in and they are out there getting themselves sorted out. They

:51:13.:51:18.

have been presented to the crowd, they have had a few hours to get

:51:19.:51:22.

ready after the semifinal heat is let's hand you over now to call on

:51:23.:51:32.

Jackson and Andrew Cotter. -- Colin. We do know that we will have a new

:51:33.:51:42.

champion. Sally Pearson, the win -- winner in London had hamstring

:51:43.:51:46.

problems and problems with her wrist. The top three from the US

:51:47.:51:52.

trials have all made the finals and that tells you everything about the

:51:53.:51:56.

strength of American hurdle in and stop and Petrea Seymour of the

:51:57.:52:04.

Bahamas, what progress she has made. Five record-breaking runs this

:52:05.:52:10.

season but this is the woman to beat, Brianna Rollins. But if there

:52:11.:52:15.

is an event that does not always deliver for the favourites is the

:52:16.:52:23.

hurdles. Divas could never win the Olympic title. Cindy Ofili, she has

:52:24.:52:30.

never defeated her exist. Her sister has won each time. But I don't think

:52:31.:52:36.

there is any doubt that Cindy Ofili is running a bit better and a bit

:52:37.:52:41.

quicker. But if Tiffany Porter can find something extra then she has a

:52:42.:52:47.

chance but it is difficult to find something extra when all you need is

:52:48.:52:52.

extra speed. It is difficult that I am hoping that both Cindy and

:52:53.:52:57.

Tiffany can get that out of their mind and concentrate on the Barriers

:52:58.:53:05.

because as we see, time after time, the Barriers tend to bite back. We

:53:06.:53:09.

have seen a lot of clumsy hurtling happening. Let's hope that Tiffany

:53:10.:53:19.

and Cindy can hold it together. A lot of Dutch fans have left the

:53:20.:53:22.

building after Dafne Skipper's silver medal. This is the last track

:53:23.:53:28.

final of the night and Tiffany Porter is so close. We all thought

:53:29.:53:32.

she was out and then a few things happened. Some athletes came unstuck

:53:33.:53:40.

over the final few hurdles and so she is here racing in the final with

:53:41.:53:46.

her sister. A great story. And that is what I need to reiterate. They

:53:47.:53:51.

need to keep calm and run their own race because we can almost guarantee

:53:52.:53:56.

that something will happen. You want to keep yourself in the frame

:53:57.:53:59.

because you never know what can happen. Phylicia George, made the

:54:00.:54:04.

final in London and she is here again. Cindy Ofili, the younger

:54:05.:54:13.

sister of Tiffany Porter who are both bracing for great written. --

:54:14.:54:26.

Great Britain. She always wanted to run for Britain, not the United

:54:27.:54:31.

States but then again the US has such strength in hurtling it would

:54:32.:54:36.

be difficult to make the team. The top fastest seven times this year

:54:37.:54:46.

have been won by Americans. They took out the age-old mark of the

:54:47.:54:51.

Bulgarian, Harrison, when she ran in London. Look out for Cindy Roleder

:54:52.:54:56.

decks as well because she tends to finish strongly. He she is being

:54:57.:55:05.

introduced to the crowd and has a habit of delivering. There is

:55:06.:55:12.

Tiffany Porter. She gets out quickly that she have the pace? The areas

:55:13.:55:24.

Ali. Pedro Seymour getting quicker and quicker. Kristi Castlin is the

:55:25.:55:38.

third quickest in the world this year. America has three

:55:39.:55:48.

opportunities here. Cindy Ofili, slightly quicker than Tiffany Porter

:55:49.:55:54.

this year. And the Canadian, Phylicia George on the outside.

:55:55.:56:08.

Ten Barriers between one of these women and Olympic gold.

:56:09.:56:56.

Out quickly and cleanly and Rollins is already in the lead. Tiffany

:56:57.:57:03.

Porter is going well and Cindy Ofili is coming back in it. Rollins is out

:57:04.:57:08.

in front and surely for the gold medal... She has it. I think it is

:57:09.:57:15.

an American one, two, three. Brianna Rollins for the gold and they all

:57:16.:57:20.

celebrate together. It was close for the bronze medal but Brianna

:57:21.:57:24.

Rollins, a former world champion and now the Olympic champion. Cindy

:57:25.:57:30.

Ofili was going quite well indeed and we will look to see if she

:57:31.:57:34.

threatened the Americans. But Rollins and Castlin and Ali. It is a

:57:35.:57:46.

America one, two and three. The reaction in the commentary box was

:57:47.:57:49.

very different to that on the track when that result came through. A

:57:50.:57:55.

fantastic one, two, three by the United States. They are the dominant

:57:56.:57:59.

country for the 100 metre hurdles at this point in time. That was

:58:00.:58:03.

something we expected. But Cindy Ofili, she was very competitive and

:58:04.:58:11.

to be the first of the Europeans in this race was quite special indeed.

:58:12.:58:15.

I am hoping that she takes a lot from this race. She should get a

:58:16.:58:19.

little bit of confidence and, like you said, it is the first time she

:58:20.:58:24.

has defeated her elder sister in a senior competition. A good

:58:25.:58:30.

performance by Cindy. We spoke about how sometimes things can go wrong in

:58:31.:58:34.

the hurdles and sometimes the favourites do not deliver but this

:58:35.:58:37.

went according to form. A clean sweep for America. But Brianna

:58:38.:58:43.

Rollins smashed into the Barrier and I thought it there may have been a

:58:44.:58:47.

problem. But her technique, where her body weight goes forward, it

:58:48.:58:53.

continues to propel her forward. She is so good technically that she

:58:54.:58:58.

manages to hold back together. A few hurdles fell down on the track at at

:58:59.:59:04.

the end but... Cindy Ofili was there until the end and Castlin was

:59:05.:59:07.

creeping up and got there for the bronze. It was going to be a proper

:59:08.:59:13.

battle, wasn't it? We knew it would be the case. It is always a blanket

:59:14.:59:17.

finish in the women's 100 metre hurdles full is a Rollins has gone

:59:18.:59:22.

clear. Nothing new there. She has been a world champion before. It is

:59:23.:59:27.

an epic battle behind them. Let us have a look at the head-on. Cindy

:59:28.:59:36.

out of the blocks well and reacts well and knows what the athletes

:59:37.:59:39.

around her are capable of. The important thing for her is to remain

:59:40.:59:43.

cool and not get dragged into the race because sometimes when you get

:59:44.:59:46.

dragged into you end up in the rhythm of somebody else and it is

:59:47.:59:50.

very distracting for you. Hurdlers can be rattled left right and

:59:51.:59:57.

centre. But at this time she seems very focused. She is concentrating

:59:58.:00:02.

on trying to relax so there is no tension and she has an opportunity

:00:03.:00:05.

to run off the final Barrier into the line. Look at her, desperately

:00:06.:00:16.

but is missing out. They say that fourth is the crawlers position,

:00:17.:00:23.

Cindy can be proud. -- cruellest position. Something to look back on

:00:24.:00:30.

and be proud of. We heard the commentary team saying that both of

:00:31.:00:35.

you should be proud. What a night for your family, to Olympic

:00:36.:00:39.

champions. So close to a medal, Cindy. I wanted to get a medal for

:00:40.:00:49.

Great Britain. It was a great race. And Tiffany, how about you? I did my

:00:50.:00:55.

best. It has been a difficult year for me and I battled to the end. I

:00:56.:01:00.

am proud of myself and very proud of my sister. Trying to explain what it

:01:01.:01:07.

is like to be in rivalry with your sister. I have said from the very

:01:08.:01:13.

beginning that I want to succeed but I want my sister to succeed as well.

:01:14.:01:17.

We are competitors but once we cross the line she is my sister and I am

:01:18.:01:21.

proud of her full and how about you, Cindy? Is it Tiffany and her

:01:22.:01:34.

achievements that inspires you? It has helped me progress as an athlete

:01:35.:01:38.

and she is such a wonderful person. I am glad we can do it together. And

:01:39.:01:45.

as Andrew said, fourth is the cruellest position to finish in. I

:01:46.:01:49.

can only be happy with his performance. I am happy to have come

:01:50.:02:02.

back and almost achieved a medal. Thank you so much everyone for

:02:03.:02:06.

supporting us. Thank you to the National lottery for the great job

:02:07.:02:08.

you do to support us athletes. So confirmation of the results as

:02:09.:02:29.

the stadium empties at the end of this night, Brianna Rollins with a

:02:30.:02:32.

gold medal, Nia Ali with a silver, Kristi Castlin just with that bronze

:02:33.:02:36.

ahead of Cindy Ofili and Tiffany Porter down in seventh place. Well

:02:37.:02:47.

it's been a brilliant night for the Americans one-two in the long jump.

:02:48.:02:52.

Clean sweep in that sprint hurdles, Tianna Bartoletta ahead of Brittney

:02:53.:02:55.

Reese. Really high-class competition. Here is the standings

:02:56.:03:00.

at the end of what was an amazing competition. Another field event

:03:01.:03:06.

that went down to the last round, Bartoletta a life-time best ahead of

:03:07.:03:11.

Brittney Reese. Ivana Spanovic a national record, there's Jazmin

:03:12.:03:15.

Sawyers. A good performance for her, eighth place. Ugen down in 11th.

:03:16.:03:25.

Well, it was a clean sweep, the kind of clean sweep we expected last year

:03:26.:03:28.

in Beijing, they're in such good form, but it didn't come off. Today

:03:29.:03:34.

it did. Very well executed. You had a beaming smile on your face. It was

:03:35.:03:38.

a fantastic to see, you know. The US is so strong in the women's 100m

:03:39.:03:41.

hurdles and has been over the years. And what we have seen with the US

:03:42.:03:46.

team quite a bit starting last year, or even before that, with so many

:03:47.:03:50.

great talents coming to these championships with the fastest time

:03:51.:03:53.

in the world or possible clean sweep, but then falling short. And

:03:54.:03:56.

not because of an injury, just because they didn't execute well. So

:03:57.:04:00.

great to see them come through, Kristi Castlin there just barely

:04:01.:04:03.

coming through at the very end because she was in about fourth

:04:04.:04:07.

position, mid-way through that race but still able to get in there and

:04:08.:04:10.

get that medal. Let's look back then. And we had a lovely shot of

:04:11.:04:15.

the sisters hugging. This was the American sisters - the hurdle

:04:16.:04:19.

sisters having a little prerace moment. Rivals, yes, but clearly

:04:20.:04:23.

great team-mates. They raced against each other, you know, the trials,

:04:24.:04:27.

it's a fierce, fierce competition. And I don't know, we're going to

:04:28.:04:32.

check with historians - has this clean sweep ever been done before at

:04:33.:04:36.

the Olympic games by the women? Might have been done on the track

:04:37.:04:40.

for sprinting, men's sprinting, but I'm not sure it's been done in the

:04:41.:04:47.

women's events. It hasn't been done in the women's hurdles, has been

:04:48.:04:52.

done before in men's 200m, but the women's hurdles, they always had the

:04:53.:04:57.

potential to do it but never done it before now. And they did it with

:04:58.:05:07.

Harrison. She's at home. This world championship, she's have a - someone

:05:08.:05:11.

would have a by, right? I believe. Yeah, did she win? No, she didn't

:05:12.:05:20.

win last year. No. But because of the bye situation, they just got so

:05:21.:05:24.

much strength, the women's 100m hurdles for the US. It's not like

:05:25.:05:30.

this is an extremely comp ti event -- competitive event as well. I go

:05:31.:05:34.

on a bit about the American, the brutality the American trials. I

:05:35.:05:38.

said they haven't got Harrison here, yes she would have been very much up

:05:39.:05:42.

there, but turns out you didn't need her. This is what people point to

:05:43.:05:46.

with this system - that, hey, these three athletes, and Kristi Castlin

:05:47.:05:50.

really proves it here, that these championship performers, the US

:05:51.:05:54.

Olympic trials is a true championship environment and in many

:05:55.:05:58.

cases, in some events, more difficult than the Olympics

:05:59.:06:02.

themselves. Because of the depth and so the athletes who can actually

:06:03.:06:05.

prove it on that day and that's what it really is - it's not so much

:06:06.:06:08.

about the consistency across the season, but it's about, all right,

:06:09.:06:11.

who's got the fastest times, you end up at the trials and who delivers on

:06:12.:06:16.

the day? And so that - there's arguments for both, but I think that

:06:17.:06:21.

what ultimately underlies the decision to put push that system is

:06:22.:06:26.

there's no much depth, number one, and two, the politics would be

:06:27.:06:29.

atrocious, would be an absolute nightmare trying to sort that out

:06:30.:06:33.

with so many athletes that could possibly come here and compete. OK.

:06:34.:06:39.

Well, that was a great race. A brilliant race for the USA. And

:06:40.:06:44.

tonight the 200m was a fantastic race for Jamaica. The new speed

:06:45.:06:45.

queen - Elaine Thompson. A cleanly away and a roar from the

:06:46.:06:59.

crowd, Elaine Thompson, Elaine Thompson in front. And is trying to

:07:00.:07:07.

get there, but Thompson has gone. 10.72 and a roar from Elaine

:07:08.:07:09.

Thompson. Who has Olympic gold! Schippers gets out as well. Thompson

:07:10.:07:25.

not going well around the bend in the yellow of Jamaica. And flashes

:07:26.:07:30.

away, Thompson's got the metres, she's got two metres and now

:07:31.:07:33.

Schippers trying to run her down and Schippers is coming quickly, but the

:07:34.:07:38.

line is coming for Elaine Thompson. Thompson is the double gold

:07:39.:07:44.

medallist! Amazingly she didn't realise, she

:07:45.:07:50.

was lying on the ground, only when it flashed up she realised she was

:07:51.:07:55.

the 200m championship. In her interview, she credited the heritage

:07:56.:08:02.

she comes from, Veronica Campbell-Brown, it was a nice moment

:08:03.:08:05.

to remember the lineage she's coming from, she appreciates that. I think

:08:06.:08:09.

so many other athletes have been inspired by the likes of Shelly Anne

:08:10.:08:14.

Fraser Price and Usain Bolt. We talk a lot about Usain Bolt, be-Shelly

:08:15.:08:19.

came on the scene at the same time as Usain Bolt, came back and

:08:20.:08:24.

repeated being a championship at the 2012 champion. And a medallist here.

:08:25.:08:28.

She is one of the greats of all-time. And I think that

:08:29.:08:32.

unfortunately, she's been overshadowed a little bit by the

:08:33.:08:36.

fact not only because she's in the era of Usain Bolt but they're both

:08:37.:08:41.

Jamaican and the brand has been built on the back of those two

:08:42.:08:46.

really and Usain has been given a lot of credit for that, but that

:08:47.:08:49.

certainly shows that Shelly Anne Fraser Price back in Jamaica has

:08:50.:08:53.

been a huge inspiration for young athlete. And Elaine Thompson if she

:08:54.:08:58.

wants to carry that legacy forward, will know how difficult it is. It

:08:59.:09:04.

clearly is very difficult. You have to mention Veronica Campbell-Brown

:09:05.:09:07.

as well. She's been a great inspiration for the Jamaican team in

:09:08.:09:12.

recent times. But, yeah, it isn't easy to retain your title. We have

:09:13.:09:18.

seen that - these championships. But she's fantastic, amazing athlete.

:09:19.:09:23.

Good find. We'll see her for a long time yet. An aggressive racer as

:09:24.:09:27.

well, you know, to take on that, you know, Daphne Schippers and the huge

:09:28.:09:31.

support for her and the build-up and everything else, I have just lost my

:09:32.:09:34.

pen because I was excited! But she was a great racer. Let's look at the

:09:35.:09:38.

men tonight as well. Heat two of the men's 200m. Let's look at this one.

:09:39.:09:46.

And, of course, it was Bolt and Gemili. Jo Bolt ran really well

:09:47.:09:51.

around this bend. He seemed a little tired, though, in this race. We

:09:52.:09:55.

noticed beforehand he seemed a little bit tired, didn't have much

:09:56.:09:59.

of a gap coming off of this as he expected. I think he wanted to be

:10:00.:10:02.

able to relax a little bit more here, but Andre De Grasse from

:10:03.:10:06.

Canada on the inside there really pushing to the line. I think that

:10:07.:10:13.

Usain Bolt,o -- you know, being playful as he is, was a little

:10:14.:10:17.

annoyed by that. Adam Gemili ran really well around the bend and a

:10:18.:10:20.

much better race around the bend than what we saw in the heat, but

:10:21.:10:25.

then here is where he really tightened up and, again, just -

:10:26.:10:30.

let's take Usain Bolt out and contrast Adam Gemili with Kevin

:10:31.:10:33.

Grosskreutz and De Grasse is just very relaxed. Whereas Gemili is very

:10:34.:10:38.

robotic and tight and starting to go backwards here a little bit. While

:10:39.:10:43.

he was disappointed with his performance and champions and based

:10:44.:10:46.

on what he wants, he should be, but at the same time, he should also be

:10:47.:10:50.

looking at this point now, a couple of hours after that race or at least

:10:51.:10:56.

an hours, the fact of 20.0 8. That's a good time. He knows exactly what

:10:57.:11:00.

he did and how he can correct that. That's what he should be thinking

:11:01.:11:04.

about at this point. So these guys just kind of laughing down the home

:11:05.:11:09.

stretch, you know. So you wonder what the other athletes in that heat

:11:10.:11:13.

think when they see these guys are laughing and like a training session

:11:14.:11:17.

and the guys are struggling. Look at those guys on the right. Webb on the

:11:18.:11:21.

right side of the screen, just struggling trying to get to the

:11:22.:11:24.

finish line, those guys are like - ahhh! And Justin Gatlin has not

:11:25.:11:30.

qualifieded for that 200m final, which is a big story of the night.

:11:31.:11:34.

Huge disappointment and huge mistake he made. He was in this race, what I

:11:35.:11:38.

believe he did here was expected that, "I am the class of the field",

:11:39.:11:43.

it was one of the easier of the heats, he's on the inside of all of

:11:44.:11:48.

my major competition and relax. He's not that far ahead. He's not looking

:11:49.:11:54.

aside, he tries to get back into it and it's too late, you can't do that

:11:55.:12:01.

in a 200m even when you're Justin Gatlin. Usain Bolt can do that, but

:12:02.:12:04.

Justin Gatlin can't do that because he doesn't have that ability. So

:12:05.:12:12.

here he is again - gets the decent kerb but in his wind maind he

:12:13.:12:17.

thought he had a better kerb. That's not good at all. The issue there

:12:18.:12:23.

with Blake was that he didn't really execute that curve at all and it

:12:24.:12:29.

could be because of the long collegiate season, but what happened

:12:30.:12:33.

now is he was never in that and he was too relaxed on the bend and too

:12:34.:12:36.

tight from the beginning. Gatlin right there looking over after he's

:12:37.:12:40.

realised already that he's relaxed too much and started to slow down

:12:41.:12:44.

and he's nowhere near the finish line and now relising I -- realising

:12:45.:12:49.

I got work to do and get back up to speed, it doesn't work. I think he

:12:50.:12:52.

didn't pay enough respect to the guys in that field. He really

:12:53.:12:57.

didn't. I mean, we have seen Gatlin blast out the blocks. I don't think

:12:58.:13:01.

he did that. I noticed, Michael, he was moving from the outside of the

:13:02.:13:05.

lane and moving into the inside. It was a really scrappy race, and

:13:06.:13:09.

perhaps... Yeah. I think that you're right. I think it was two things. I

:13:10.:13:13.

think that he didn't execute as well as he did and like I said he

:13:14.:13:17.

thought, "I'm the class of the field", yes, you are but they're not

:13:18.:13:21.

going to give it to you and you still have to go out and run the

:13:22.:13:24.

race and he didn't. Taking field for granted and in the executing the way

:13:25.:13:27.

he should. That's what happens. Well, there would be some people of

:13:28.:13:31.

course who would be quite happy Gatlin isn't through to that final,

:13:32.:13:35.

and maybe we won't see him in big championship races again. It will be

:13:36.:13:39.

interesting to see. Obviously we'll see him by the 4 by 100m relay.

:13:40.:13:43.

After that championship. Given what he's received from this field,

:13:44.:13:46.

they'll be happy to see he's not here, they have booed him every time

:13:47.:13:49.

he's come out on the track, certainly we know a lot of people

:13:50.:13:53.

believe that the IAAF should have a rule that shouldn't allow him to be

:13:54.:13:57.

here and they take it out on him. Will we see him at another

:13:58.:14:00.

championship? I would imagine we probably see him here next year,

:14:01.:14:04.

certainly if Usain Bolt decides he's not coming... London. Yes, London.

:14:05.:14:08.

If Usain Bolt decides he's not coming to the championships, Gatlin

:14:09.:14:12.

is going dob here. Even if Bolt is coming, Gatlin still is probably

:14:13.:14:17.

going to be like - I ran personal best last year. Is there anyone in

:14:18.:14:26.

the US who will chase him. Bromwell. He was the cobronze medallist with

:14:27.:14:30.

De Grasse the other day. I think he can push him. The problem we have in

:14:31.:14:36.

the US with the 100m is that we got all this fantastic talent early on

:14:37.:14:38.

but they're not making the transition from the college level to

:14:39.:14:41.

the professional level. They're not making that transition in the most

:14:42.:14:45.

effective way. If you're dominating the hurdles, you're also dominating

:14:46.:14:48.

long jump and tonight was Tianna Bartoletta who put in the biggest

:14:49.:14:54.

jump of the night to claim the Olympic title. And had a great

:14:55.:14:59.

tussle with Brittney Reese, didn't she, Michael? Yes, she did. Is

:15:00.:15:03.

similar to what we Shaw in the men's competition last night. Great to see

:15:04.:15:07.

the lead change back and forth quite a bit, two Americans here that are

:15:08.:15:12.

both very, very good. Bartoletta 100m athlete was that that time but

:15:13.:15:16.

I think this year she really did focus on and point to this long jump

:15:17.:15:20.

knowing she may have an opportunity here. Brittney Reese, the defending

:15:21.:15:25.

Olympic champion who has been extremely dominant, just didn't have

:15:26.:15:30.

enough. But that was a great competition to see just the lead

:15:31.:15:32.

change back and forth over the night. I think what she's done

:15:33.:15:37.

successfully this season is dovetail that 100m and the long jump

:15:38.:15:41.

throughout the diamond league. I think it just paid dividends. The

:15:42.:15:45.

consistency you get from jumping regularly and managing that speed

:15:46.:15:49.

that she has, I mean, she's 10.9 athlete, you know that's incredible.

:15:50.:15:53.

And to manage that on the runway is really difficult. But she did a

:15:54.:15:58.

great job out there. She caught up with Phil afterwards.

:15:59.:16:02.

We spoke last year after that last round jump to win the world title,

:16:03.:16:07.

you pulled out a personal best. The biggest stage of all! Tell me how

:16:08.:16:12.

you did it. It's a matter of just being mentally tough and with the

:16:13.:16:15.

long jump I had to shift gears and not focus on winning but putting

:16:16.:16:19.

together my best jump I could. I was able to do that a few times today so

:16:20.:16:23.

I'm pleased how it turned out. How were you able to block out the

:16:24.:16:27.

Olympic final, you're going to be in contention for a medal but to go for

:16:28.:16:31.

gold like that? I mean, I had no choice. My approach is 39m long and

:16:32.:16:35.

I have to nail ever step of that to be competitive. That's what I

:16:36.:16:39.

focused on today. When you have secured the victory and realised

:16:40.:16:41.

you're Olympic champion, what is that feeling like? I had to take a

:16:42.:16:45.

deep breath because I had one more jump and I have seen people kind of

:16:46.:16:48.

fall apart because they get too emotional but I wanted to end on a

:16:49.:16:53.

bang. So I rally tried to put together good last jump as well, I

:16:54.:16:56.

did. Enjoy the celebrations and the moment, well done. Thank you, thank

:16:57.:17:01.

you. Well, Jazmin Sawyers managed her

:17:02.:17:05.

best jump, was 6.69. She got herself into the top group. And ended up

:17:06.:17:11.

finishing in eighth position. And afterwards she spoke to Phil.

:17:12.:17:18.

Well, your first Olympic final and you have - well, delivered an

:17:19.:17:22.

assured performance for such a big stage for such a big night. I can't

:17:23.:17:27.

believe I'm going to say it, but I'm disappointed. Two goals coming here

:17:28.:17:33.

- make the final and jufr PB. I thought I could - I could jump by PB

:17:34.:17:38.

on the time, I usually thrive in these environments, I didn't - it

:17:39.:17:44.

didn't happen tonight. 69 is a solid performance, but it's not... It's

:17:45.:17:50.

not what I'm capable of. I think I'm better than 6.69, and I'm kind of -

:17:51.:17:55.

I'm kind of gutted. I know I'll look back on this in a few days and think

:17:56.:18:01.

you did amazing and made the top eight, when I say those words come

:18:02.:18:06.

out loud, I have a smile on my face. Every time I achieve one goal when

:18:07.:18:10.

you make the final, I didn't want it to stop there. Dream a bit further,

:18:11.:18:15.

climb up the rank as bit to see where I could do, but I couldn't.

:18:16.:18:19.

For that I'm gutted. But I'm proud of myself, it's been incredible here

:18:20.:18:23.

tonight and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. That's a great

:18:24.:18:27.

attitude. It's an attitude a lot of you share, one of those new breed of

:18:28.:18:38.

smiley assas sins -- assassins if you like. Being happy and smily and

:18:39.:18:43.

enjoying the environment is part of producing something great, usually

:18:44.:18:45.

for me, and you know, definitely helped me to get into that top eight

:18:46.:18:50.

but I couldn't do anymore. I need to sit down with my coach, Allen and

:18:51.:18:56.

go, "What more did I need to do there?" There was no obvious this

:18:57.:19:00.

was horrible. It wasn't awful, it was a whole sight better than

:19:01.:19:04.

yesterday, but it wasn't got there. I got years, I'm 22. I feel like

:19:05.:19:09.

this is not the end for me, I don't want to finish my career as the

:19:10.:19:16.

eighth best in the Olympics. Onwards and upwards. Thank you. Plenty of

:19:17.:19:20.

time for Jazmin Sawyers. Looks at the athletes medal table. Obviously

:19:21.:19:24.

no improvement for Great Britain. US, though, significant improvement.

:19:25.:19:28.

They have upped their total tally to 19. Kenya trailing by 12 on seven.

:19:29.:19:34.

Jamaica on 6. Elaine Thompson adding to that tonight. China on four and

:19:35.:19:46.

Ethiopia on 5. Another fantastically action-packed

:19:47.:19:49.

evening. Hot, very hot that we have had so far. It's been pretty warm

:19:50.:19:54.

but that long jump was really cool to see and certainly the 100m

:19:55.:19:59.

hurdles, very proud of those girls. Yeah, great night of athletes. I

:20:00.:20:04.

think it's been super. Just great to see that people are raising their

:20:05.:20:08.

game, that long jump final to me was great. Two or three women over seven

:20:09.:20:11.

metres, quality. Excellent and of course going to be hot in here

:20:12.:20:15.

tomorrow night as well because it's the men's 200m final. Usain Bolt

:20:16.:20:20.

will be back in here and these sprinters seem to be loving these

:20:21.:20:25.

conditions. And Doyle going into the 400m murderles finals. Heading

:20:26.:20:29.

towards the weekend. You're practically staying up all night,

:20:30.:20:32.

we'll see you tomorrow night. Jason, over to you.

:20:33.:20:35.

Thank you very much indeed. Wonderful work from our athletes

:20:36.:20:38.

team. Once again and Gabi is absolutely right, because you really

:20:39.:20:43.

are enjoying watching Usain Bolt and co at the Olympic stadium. Lots of

:20:44.:20:47.

you are tweeting us. Become a bit part of the evening when I read a

:20:48.:20:53.

few of them out. Lots of them to get through. This is from Ronan - I love

:20:54.:20:57.

how Usain Bolt had a conversation with a fellow competitor as he

:20:58.:20:59.

reached the finishing line. Simon says - this is so easy for Usain

:21:00.:21:04.

Bolt. And Hugh says - I absolutely love it when you have a laugh with

:21:05.:21:08.

your mate when everyone else runs for their lives. Do keep tweeting

:21:09.:21:12.

us. We love getting your tweets. Use the hashtag BBC Rio 2016. We're on

:21:13.:21:17.

hair until 5 o'clock this morning and there's plenty more still to

:21:18.:21:21.

come. Let's give you a flavour of what is coming up in the next hour

:21:22.:21:28.

or so. We got a little bit time of Taekwondo for you, gold medal

:21:29.:21:32.

matches in the women's 49 kilo and men's 58 kilos. And then some

:21:33.:21:37.

wrestling before the big one - the women's final of the beach volley

:21:38.:21:44.

Ball. Behind me it's Germany against Brazil. Going to be crazy at

:21:45.:21:48.

Copacabana later. Do stay up if you can and enjoy that one.

:21:49.:21:56.

So tomorrow, we shall see one of the faces of London 2012 - Jade Jones

:21:57.:22:01.

defend her title. Here is your guide as to how it all works.

:22:02.:22:13.

Taekwondo originates in Korea and combines combat and self-defence

:22:14.:22:19.

techniques. Became a fully-fledged Olympic sport in Sydney in 2000.

:22:20.:22:24.

Each contest has three rounds and competitor can win on points or if

:22:25.:22:27.

their opponent is unable to continue. Points are awarded for

:22:28.:22:31.

permitted, accurate and powerful blows to the opponent's head or

:22:32.:22:34.

body. Attacks to the body can be made using a fist or foot, but an

:22:35.:22:39.

athlete can only use their feet to strike the area above the

:22:40.:22:42.

collarbone. Punches to the heads and attacks to the spine are not

:22:43.:22:45.

allowed. The only techniques per mythed are kicks with the athletes

:22:46.:22:49.

uses the area of the foot below the ankle and punches where the athlete

:22:50.:22:54.

uses the knuckle part of a tightly clenched fist, scoring differs

:22:55.:22:58.

depending on where or how an athlete has attacked. One point is awarded

:22:59.:23:03.

for a valid attack to the body protect or, but if it's a turning or

:23:04.:23:08.

reverse kick to the body it will be worth 3 points. 3 points to a legal

:23:09.:23:12.

kick to the head and if this is a turning kick it achieves the maximum

:23:13.:23:15.

doctor four points. At the end of the three rounds, the competitor

:23:16.:23:19.

with most points wins the match but in the event of a tie, the golden

:23:20.:23:23.

point overtime round is held which the first athlete to register the

:23:24.:23:27.

point wins the contest. Leigh McKenzie with your guide. Now

:23:28.:23:32.

you know how it works. Now is time for the action, it's the 49 kilo

:23:33.:23:37.

gold medal contest first. South Korea taking on Serbia. We're going

:23:38.:23:50.

to join in in the third round. Her we go. Gold medal contest. Third

:23:51.:24:05.

round, 5-2 in favour of South Korea. Who's going to take the gold. Takes

:24:06.:24:17.

a little simple shot to the body -. There's a piece there for holding on

:24:18.:24:27.

the inside. They must enjoying this. The noise is incredible. The support

:24:28.:24:36.

for both fighters. Couldn't ask for a better set-up. Tried to set one up

:24:37.:24:42.

there. She may be short. Good power. Thought had scored it. Almost let

:24:43.:24:47.

the celebration go too soon but the Serb still in this one. So flexible

:24:48.:24:52.

- Bogdanovic. Can she find the space for these long legs. There's the

:24:53.:24:57.

first kick. Absolutely perfect exkug, fires across. Flexed off the

:24:58.:25:04.

top of the shoulder and the Serb takes the fall. The execution was

:25:05.:25:10.

perfect. It did not however land and it's now 6-4. Bogdanovic well in

:25:11.:25:15.

there. Just two points in it. This is anybody's fight. Bogdanovic so

:25:16.:25:23.

long in the legs. Great flexibility, able to get the legs so high. Just

:25:24.:25:33.

keeping the distance. Working hard maintaining good footwork all the

:25:34.:25:38.

way through. Kim having to dart around the edge, going to give away

:25:39.:25:44.

another one. Won't prove too pivotal at the moment, but that pending

:25:45.:25:49.

hanging against both of them. Bogdanovic, how is her fitness? How

:25:50.:25:54.

is he desire? Well desire looks high. She's moving and constantly

:25:55.:25:59.

pushing Kim backwards. Attacking all the way. She knows she's got to

:26:00.:26:04.

chase this with only 20 seconds on the clock. 20 seconds from the

:26:05.:26:11.

Olympic gold medal from Kim So-hui. Takes another body shot underneath,

:26:12.:26:14.

Bogdanovic needs a head kick many the last 10 seconds here. This will

:26:15.:26:21.

help. 7-5, a breathless encounter. The first gold medal at stake here

:26:22.:26:28.

for Olympic Taekwondo. So-hui in prime position. She doesn't want to

:26:29.:26:34.

settle for silver. So-hui on the back foot defending. She's now on

:26:35.:26:39.

the deck. Going to be 7-6 now. Can the Serb Bogdanovic find a shot at

:26:40.:26:45.

glory here? Moving forward So-hui on the back foot. The referee giving

:26:46.:26:51.

another one for avoidance there. 3 seconds left. Can it be Bogdanovic

:26:52.:26:57.

or So-hui. She's got it and going to be seven points each! The referee

:26:58.:27:03.

just checking there that the buzzer hasn't gone. In fact, the buzzer

:27:04.:27:09.

looks to have gone. There's going to be a video replay. The Kiongo can be

:27:10.:27:19.

given after the buzzer if you fell over. The court here from Serbia is

:27:20.:27:26.

looking for one. If that Kiongo is given, it will be a sudden death

:27:27.:27:29.

gold medal potential round here. This is a discussion. Let's have a

:27:30.:27:37.

look at it here. The kick is not the question. The Korean falls over.

:27:38.:27:49.

That will mean 7 points each which will mean sudden death. She

:27:50.:27:54.

definitely falls. All in the balance here. What a way to decide this.

:27:55.:28:03.

Talk about history, talk about pressure. Asking for another angle.

:28:04.:28:15.

They want another angle for a big push from the leg. Clearly fell

:28:16.:28:21.

over, but... This would be decisive here. There's the push, there's a

:28:22.:28:25.

great angle, it's a push-kick, not for the point from the kick. It's

:28:26.:28:30.

for falling over. She clearly does. It's been rejected. It could be to

:28:31.:28:41.

do with the timing of it. Kim So-hui So-hui -- Kim So-hui takes a

:28:42.:28:44.

glorious gold medal for Korea. Bogdanovic could not have come any

:28:45.:28:49.

closer. A wonderful winning smile from the Serb. A superb battle. She

:28:50.:28:55.

battled for it and she came so close. Kim So-hui though, exhausted.

:28:56.:29:02.

But elated. Nice show of respect between the teams and Kim So-hui,

:29:03.:29:07.

she was limping, she was battered and bruised, but in the end there is

:29:08.:29:13.

the Olympic champion from South Korea - Kim So-hui takes it in the

:29:14.:29:17.

very last second. Such a great competition. The gold

:29:18.:29:20.

medal goes to South Korea. Let's now turn our attention to the men's

:29:21.:29:27.

composition and the 58kg category. The gold medal match between China

:29:28.:29:32.

taking on Thailand's competitor. We join it in the second round.

:29:33.:29:43.

Returning kick to the head. Almost stealing a little shot and under the

:29:44.:29:51.

guard there. Three points down coming in this first round. And into

:29:52.:29:56.

the second round, that 3 point gap is still there.

:29:57.:30:08.

Front leg again from Shuai Zhao trying to go forward with it. Well

:30:09.:30:15.

blocked. 10 seconds left in this second round here. Thailand's

:30:16.:30:26.

competitor is trying to come back into it. The second round ends. 4-1

:30:27.:30:37.

in favour of China's Zhao. Well, is Zhao's reach just too good at the

:30:38.:30:41.

moment. kicks in place? You have to cram

:30:42.:31:01.

your hips in and touch your knees over, just like this. That is why he

:31:02.:31:04.

has the advantage. The Olympic Games final here. Last

:31:05.:31:26.

messages from the coaches. Lost opportunity here. As we go into the

:31:27.:31:35.

third round. The Olympic final in the men's under 58 kg contest. Zhao

:31:36.:31:43.

Shuai of China against Tawin Hanprab of Thailand. And it is Zhao Shuai

:31:44.:31:51.

who tries to score with a double. He has the tactic right and the

:31:52.:31:56.

technique right. A double from Tawin Hanprab. Over the shoulder, the top

:31:57.:32:02.

and he gets it. He closes the door and a sandwich click -- kick. Shut

:32:03.:32:08.

the door on their heads. It is 5-4 in just a matter of seconds.

:32:09.:32:14.

Dramatic stuff here. Blinking you miss it, it really is that fast. --

:32:15.:32:22.

blink and you miss it. Sometimes Olympic tae kwon do contests are a

:32:23.:32:26.

bit cagey, it takes a while to get going but when it does, it gets

:32:27.:32:34.

going. 6-4 on the board. 1.5 minutes remaining in this gold-medal match.

:32:35.:32:38.

Tawin Hanprab really going for it. Zhao Shuai, not allowing him in. Two

:32:39.:32:42.

points separating the two fighters. The referee, Conrad Jenkins. He does

:32:43.:32:59.

well. He always takes one on the way through. Zhao Shuai of China tries

:33:00.:33:07.

with a kick over the shoulder. He almost scores. Tawin Hanprab does

:33:08.:33:12.

well to avoid as he pushes into the final Medicare. A great -- into the

:33:13.:33:23.

final Medicare. A great punch. He is not making the final minutes count.

:33:24.:33:30.

Tawin Hanprab not moving as well. Look into that 1-off salvation which

:33:31.:33:41.

could pull them back into this. Zhao Shuai trying to defend for his life.

:33:42.:33:49.

The referee is aware of that. Can Tawin Hanprab produce something

:33:50.:33:54.

special? The short kick whistles past. Multiple kicks coming in.

:33:55.:34:01.

Changing direction, changing stance. Nothing registering. Tawin Hanprab

:34:02.:34:14.

one of China. Can he hang on? You tries to use that push kick again to

:34:15.:34:26.

keep his opponent at bay. Tawin Hanprab tries with a back kick. Zhao

:34:27.:34:31.

Shuai checks the scoreboard, he looks for the time, there is a 2-

:34:32.:34:35.

point gap. Is it going to be girls all silver? The fighter from

:34:36.:34:43.

Thailand is running out of steam but running into Zhao S as he comes away

:34:44.:34:47.

with a glorious gold medal. Olympic champion, Zhao Shuai of China. Tawin

:34:48.:34:55.

Hanprab, so close. A superb silver for the man from Thailand. But Zhao

:34:56.:35:00.

Shuai, he didn't have it all his own way. The ages victorious, delighted.

:35:01.:35:15.

-- he and -- he and Mergea is victorious, delighted. Look out

:35:16.:35:20.

delighted he is. -- look out delighted he is. So much emotion

:35:21.:35:25.

building up. So many thousands of hours of training and sacrifice. The

:35:26.:35:31.

final gold medal here on the opening day of the tae kwon do. Zhao Shuai

:35:32.:35:37.

of China takes a glorious gold. Well done to Zhao Shuai. Remember, Jade

:35:38.:35:44.

Jones gets Olympic campaign under way tomorrow.

:35:45.:35:47.

We'll remember how great it was when she won her gold medal at London

:35:48.:35:56.

2012. Look behind me, at the end of Copacabana, with a wonderful beach

:35:57.:36:00.

volleyball venue is. A little bit of razzmatazz going on because we have

:36:01.:36:04.

got a massive game coming up. A mouthwatering matchup in the women's

:36:05.:36:08.

beach volleyball. Brazil against Germany. Do stay with us. First, we

:36:09.:36:18.

had back to the Carioca Arena 2. Free women's events. The 48, 58, and

:36:19.:36:31.

69- kilogram category. In the PDA category, Ichiko was hoping to be

:36:32.:36:34.

the first woman to win four consecutive gold medals.

:36:35.:36:46.

-- Tosaka. Stadnik, of Azerbaijan, against -- Tosaka.

:36:47.:37:04.

If she can complete the three medals, Stadnik, it would be a very

:37:05.:37:08.

rare feat in any sport. Tosaka, a pre- world champion. Asian

:37:09.:37:20.

games champion. This is going to be a terrific matchup. Period number to

:37:21.:37:37.

hear in the gold-medal match. The last three minutes of this encounter

:37:38.:37:43.

between Tosaka of Japan and Mariya Stadnik of Azerbaijan. Tosaka, a

:37:44.:37:51.

pre- time world champion, Mariya Stadnik, a 2- Thai medallist.

:37:52.:38:02.

--A 2- time medallist. Here is the official warning this time. The

:38:03.:38:13.

Japanese wrestler is on the clock. 30 seconds, she's got to score a

:38:14.:38:20.

point otherwise Mariya Stadnik is going to take a lead. It doesn't

:38:21.:38:27.

sound like much. What is at stake here, it is a big deficit.

:38:28.:38:34.

Absolutely pivotal here. Stadnik is defending resolutely. Keeping its

:38:35.:38:41.

strong. Just sending Tosaka back. There is going to be absolutely

:38:42.:38:44.

nothing coming out of that one, nothing at all except for one point.

:38:45.:38:51.

That we are. The Japanese wrestler, unable to score in the 30 seconds.

:38:52.:38:59.

Two minutes left. She wants to win, she is going to have to throw

:39:00.:39:04.

caution to the wind at some point in his last two minutes. You can see

:39:05.:39:09.

the Japanese wrestler now becoming more active and Stadnik, she is

:39:10.:39:15.

expecting exactly that. She has got some pretty decent defensive skills

:39:16.:39:23.

behind her. She was in danger of going out of bounds there. Nothing

:39:24.:39:33.

at all from Stadnik. Not even a glimpse of an attacking opportunity.

:39:34.:39:39.

There is going to be something now because Stadnik has got the 30

:39:40.:39:45.

seconds penalty. This could be really huge for the Japanese

:39:46.:39:51.

wrestler. It is Tosaka here with just over one minute to go.

:39:52.:39:58.

Stadnik, desperately trying to win another point.

:39:59.:40:06.

All right, it's not going to happen. We are going to go to two points to

:40:07.:40:14.

one. Remember, the last time these two rest is met, just under one year

:40:15.:40:22.

ago, the Japanese wrestler won 3-1. 40 seconds remaining, gold-medal on

:40:23.:40:29.

the line here. And Tosaka, she wants to win Olympic gold. She is got to

:40:30.:40:35.

find a way through the outstanding defensive skills of Stadnik of

:40:36.:40:47.

Azerbaijan. Both wrestler is absolutely spent. But they got to

:40:48.:40:53.

work for 20 more seconds. Especially the Japanese wrestler. Time is

:40:54.:41:04.

ticking away. Stadnik... She has got the Japanese wrestler exactly where

:41:05.:41:10.

she wants. It is a 2- point for the Japanese wrestler. And it is come

:41:11.:41:15.

with three seconds on the clock. How is that for a play? Eri Tosaka,

:41:16.:41:25.

Olympic gold medals don't get much more dramatic than that. Absolute

:41:26.:41:37.

heartbreak for Stadnik. But Eri Tosaka... She got the 2- pointer.

:41:38.:41:45.

The 2- point takedown right at the end. There is your gold-medallist.

:41:46.:41:50.

Eri Tosaka, a world champion three times becomes an Olympic champion.

:41:51.:42:00.

And Japan continued their dominance and win their eighth gold medal. In

:42:01.:42:10.

Olympic women's wrestling. How about that? That is a lift.

:42:11.:42:23.

It is potentially an enormous moment, in not just the history of

:42:24.:42:34.

wrestling but in the history of the Olympic Games. Icho of Japan is

:42:35.:42:50.

going for. Fourth gold in success. And, in doing so, would be the first

:42:51.:42:59.

woman in Olympic history to win individual event girls in four

:43:00.:43:15.

consecutive Olympics in any sport. Is she going to be able to see this

:43:16.:43:17.

one across the line? Can Icho when this bout and win the

:43:18.:43:38.

fourth gold medal? Doing so, become the first woman in Olympic history

:43:39.:43:47.

to win individual event girls in four classes in any sport. This

:43:48.:43:50.

could be a huge moment here she is trying to secure position. She has

:43:51.:43:56.

got the Russian just where she needs to. Can she get the strength and the

:43:57.:44:04.

technique to haul her Rover? A stalemate has been called. Back into

:44:05.:44:21.

a standing position. Good position now by Koblova. It is a very good

:44:22.:44:31.

point. Making sound decisions. That is equally as critical. On the last

:44:32.:44:43.

90 seconds of the contest, two points is probably the most common

:44:44.:44:46.

point you will see in freestyle wrestling.

:44:47.:45:06.

1:15 minutes to go. There has been a penalty point awarded there. Well,

:45:07.:45:21.

it came up on the board. Then it disappeared. We are back to 2-1. In

:45:22.:45:38.

this gold-medal bout. She has got one minute to go. We have seen a lot

:45:39.:45:44.

of bouts in the women's wrestling decided in the final few seconds.

:45:45.:45:54.

The last 45 seconds. The lead is the 23-year-old, the wrestler in blue,

:45:55.:45:59.

close in on the Olympic gold medal at the moment. Can she do it? Icho

:46:00.:46:08.

went for the leg. She has got the lead again. Icho trying to turn it

:46:09.:46:11.

around, trying to convert something out of this. Defence turning into a

:46:12.:46:20.

tack. All corners here, the last few seconds. Icho tries to turn around

:46:21.:46:23.

here, trying to get a score out of this. Can she do it? We're watching

:46:24.:46:30.

entered into the last few seconds. Icho has a grip here. It looks as

:46:31.:46:34.

though she has secured it right before the very end. Absolutely

:46:35.:46:37.

extraordinary! until the very end of the contest.

:46:38.:46:53.

Here at the Rio 2016 Games, history made. She is pretty good at making

:46:54.:47:14.

history. Kaori Icho has won her fourth consecutive gold medal in

:47:15.:47:18.

wrestling, and in doing so she becomes the first woman in Olympic

:47:19.:47:22.

history to win individual event gold in four consecutive Olympic Games.

:47:23.:47:29.

Well, not much emotion here for Kaori Icho, but surely it is about

:47:30.:47:34.

to start pouring out of her right now. Four gold medals in succession.

:47:35.:47:46.

We move to the gold medal bouts now in the women's freestyle wrestling,

:47:47.:47:55.

and the 69 kg class. It will feature rush-hour's Natalia Vorobeva, the

:47:56.:48:02.

world number four. -- Russia's. Up against Sara Dosho of Japan, the

:48:03.:48:11.

world number five. Sara Dosho here has the possibility of winning

:48:12.:48:16.

Japan's third Olympic gold medal in this session.

:48:17.:48:35.

Yet again, Natalia Vorobieva driving her out. Still 1-0. 17 seconds. Just

:48:36.:48:48.

stalling here, just trying to make it very difficult. There it looks as

:48:49.:48:58.

though this will be a second point for foreign bee ever -- for Natalia

:48:59.:49:08.

Vorobieva. And it is. At the moment it is 2-0 with one minute and 30

:49:09.:49:17.

seconds left. The referee has been very clear here. She has got plenty

:49:18.:49:26.

of energy. Somebody has flipped the switch.

:49:27.:49:47.

Vorobieva being urged to do some attacking here. Seemingly happy here

:49:48.:49:58.

to preserve her slender 2-point route. Dosho could seal this with a

:49:59.:50:05.

score here. That's right. Her opponent needs a 2-point takedown.

:50:06.:50:17.

This could be the moment! It is a 2-point, to the Japanese wrestler!

:50:18.:50:27.

-- 2-pointer. Now Vorobieva is in deep trouble. She will have 20

:50:28.:50:31.

seconds of all-out attack here to defend her Olympic title. At the

:50:32.:50:35.

moment, on count back on it will be Dosho who will win the gold medal.

:50:36.:50:42.

That is unless the Russian can score here. The referee is warning some

:50:43.:50:50.

pretty animated coaches from both camps at the moment. That is why

:50:51.:50:55.

there was a delay. 20 seconds to go, Vorobieva needs to dig deep if she

:50:56.:50:59.

wants to defend her Olympic title. She has got ten seconds to get a

:51:00.:51:04.

score. Otherwise the Japanese wrestler, it will be three golds in

:51:05.:51:09.

this session to Japan, and Vorobieva is going down to the wire. It is

:51:10.:51:12.

gold to Japan! What a session for Japanese

:51:13.:51:27.

wrestling. Bad domination of the women's wrestling is renowned, and

:51:28.:51:33.

now it is even more dominant. -- bad domination of women's wrestling. --

:51:34.:51:43.

their domination. Vorobieva could not defend her Olympic title, and

:51:44.:51:51.

Dosho with that 2-pointer with about 25 seconds left gets it on the count

:51:52.:52:00.

back. It finishes 2-2, but the gold goes to Sara Dosho of Japan. The

:52:01.:52:10.

women's 69 kg gold medal, and it was a thriller.

:52:11.:52:15.

The reaction here from the Japanese fans, it is not the first time he

:52:16.:52:19.

has been in that position, hoisted up again, the Japanese coach. Such a

:52:20.:52:28.

wonderful, wonderful moment. Yes, he is lapping it up. And rightly so.

:52:29.:52:35.

What a session for this Japanese team. Not a bad recovery from him,

:52:36.:52:45.

too. Well, we have to look at these

:52:46.:52:49.

celebrations again. Look at this. When Japan wins a gold medal, they

:52:50.:52:54.

celebrate in style. There you go, no hands needed at all. Only when she

:52:55.:53:00.

is clutching onto his thighs. I think that should become a

:53:01.:53:02.

celebration in Premier League football and the Six Nations. That

:53:03.:53:06.

is what we want to see. That is how to celebrate. You only get that at

:53:07.:53:11.

the Olympics. Marvellous stuff. Do stay with us. I know that lots of

:53:12.:53:14.

you are tweeting us now, saying that you are looking forward to the beach

:53:15.:53:17.

volleyball. Look at what is happening. Lots of razzmatazz at the

:53:18.:53:23.

bottom of Copacabana. It was absolutely jumping yesterday evening

:53:24.:53:26.

when Brazil took on the United States in the women's singles. Well,

:53:27.:53:30.

it is the gold medal match this evening between Brazil and Germany.

:53:31.:53:34.

So much rivalry between Brazil and Germany. I think it all goes back to

:53:35.:53:39.

that World Cup drubbing, 7-0, in the World Cup. The Brazilians are

:53:40.:53:44.

desperate to win the gold medal in that condition. We will go there

:53:45.:53:47.

shortly. Let's show you what happened in the men's welterweight

:53:48.:53:59.

gold medal bout. Shakhram Giyasov is taking on Kazakhstan, we join the

:54:00.:54:12.

syndicate round. COMMENTATOR: We are into the third and final round of

:54:13.:54:15.

the men's 69 kg welterweight gold medal bout, and the man in red,

:54:16.:54:20.

walking after his man defiantly, with his hand by his side, saying,

:54:21.:54:27.

come on, fight me! Shakhram Giyasov, the spec. -- the Uzbek. He is

:54:28.:54:35.

frustrated because he cannot get his opponent a standstill. -- to stand

:54:36.:54:44.

still. He is obviously frustrated, but there is more than one way to

:54:45.:54:48.

skin a cat. This is why he is one of the best boxers in the world, this

:54:49.:54:52.

fellow in blue. He is frustrating his opponent. This should suit him.

:54:53.:54:59.

He is being made to miss, terrific movement from the waist. The head

:55:00.:55:05.

unable to be targeted effectively by Shakhram Giyasov, who is putting an

:55:06.:55:09.

awful lot into his punches. In the meantime, look at that again. We

:55:10.:55:19.

have seen Dani Alves herself do this before -- seen Daniyar Yeleussinov

:55:20.:55:23.

do this before. He is doing it again, letting you solve note that

:55:24.:55:29.

he is in charge in every facet of the game. -- letting Shakhram

:55:30.:55:30.

Giyasov no. Well, if you want him that way,

:55:31.:55:38.

let's go. He is actually boxing better than his opponent. It is his

:55:39.:55:44.

opponent's style of boxing. He is demonstrating that he can box on the

:55:45.:55:48.

outside, Daniyar Yeleussinov. Standing toe to toe. This should

:55:49.:55:52.

suit the man in red. Can he lands that shot? Somebody's mouthpiece has

:55:53.:55:57.

been dislodged. The mouthpiece of Shakhram Giyasov. We are just beyond

:55:58.:56:04.

B midpoint of the third and final round, and be Kazakh fans are almost

:56:05.:56:12.

counting down the clock. Because Daniyar Yeleussinov is getting

:56:13.:56:15.

closer to joining the ranks of the all-time greats of the Central Asian

:56:16.:56:19.

boxing nation of desert sun. Yes, they have dominated the division for

:56:20.:56:22.

the last three Olympics, Kazakhstan. Lovely head movement. We have seen

:56:23.:56:35.

that from a couple of Kazakhstan boxes, especially when they are on

:56:36.:56:38.

the ropes. They have obviously been taught good defensive work as well.

:56:39.:56:44.

Great to see. Good performance from the Kazakhs.

:56:45.:56:56.

He is taking on Shakhram Giyasov in the types of exchanges that he

:56:57.:57:01.

wants, and still he is making the man mix. Generally getting the

:57:02.:57:06.

better of the exchange. Trying to find that finishing shot. A right

:57:07.:57:13.

hand, and another left. When you adopt that, as he does sometimes,

:57:14.:57:16.

when a shot lands, you cannot accentuate it any more effectively

:57:17.:57:23.

than it is. A furious exchange in the closing seconds, but they can be

:57:24.:57:29.

little doubt that Kazakhstan will extend their fantastic record in the

:57:30.:57:32.

welterweight division in the Olympic boxing ring by making it four wins

:57:33.:57:42.

in a row. A tremendous performance from

:57:43.:57:44.

Daniyar Yeleussinov, because right at the end he had to take a couple

:57:45.:57:50.

of big blows. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision. In

:57:51.:58:12.

the blue corner... Shakhram Giyasov. Daniyar Yeleussinov is absolutely

:58:13.:58:16.

ecstatic. He has been announced as the welterweight Olympic champion.

:58:17.:58:22.

Here in Riocentro Pavilion six, a tremendous display. His fans are

:58:23.:58:27.

jubilant and he is absolutely overcome with emotion. A warm

:58:28.:58:31.

embrace of congratulations from his coaching staff. They provided the

:58:32.:58:35.

tactics, he carried out in the boxing ring. Kazakhstan join Cuba as

:58:36.:58:41.

a National Olympic Committee to make it four wins in a row in a

:58:42.:58:45.

particular weight class. That was a great fight. We are going

:58:46.:58:50.

to go to the beach will the ball live very shortly, Brazil against

:58:51.:58:52.

Germany, the gold medal match for the women. It will be terrific. Lots

:58:53.:58:57.

of you are still getting in touch with us, you are still up at this

:58:58.:59:02.

hour. " A very good night to you, Jason and your team. The kids are up

:59:03.:59:07.

at six o'clock in the morning, they had better get some sleep". I make

:59:08.:59:11.

it for a clock now, that is two hours sleep! Another brilliant

:59:12.:59:14.

tweet, lots of you are enjoying this. Particularly want to give a

:59:15.:59:19.

shout out to Jake tonight, I have gotten all motor watching the beach

:59:20.:59:22.

will of all and I have got my A-levels in the morning. He is going

:59:23.:59:28.

right through the night. We wish you the best for your A-levels, Jake. Do

:59:29.:59:32.

stay with us. You might want to look at the men's volleyball as well,

:59:33.:59:35.

this is a big match. This is available on the red button right

:59:36.:59:39.

now. Look at what is happening there right now, the Brazilian men are

:59:40.:59:43.

under a lot of pressure. This is a massive game, Brazil against

:59:44.:59:46.

Argentina. A packed arena. They are leading 2-1. There is a lot of

:59:47.:59:51.

pressure on Brazil's men's volleyball side, because the women

:59:52.:59:56.

were beaten by China yesterday evening. So it is all about the men

:59:57.:00:00.

now, for the indoor volleyball. That is available on the red button.

:00:01.:00:03.

Let's take you to the end of Copacabana and show you what is

:00:04.:00:06.

happening there right now. If you think it is going to be crazy in

:00:07.:00:10.

that arena for the indoor volleyball, then trust me, look at

:00:11.:00:14.

these pictures. Amazing. The Brazilian people have really brought

:00:15.:00:21.

into the beach volleyball. Listen to this, this is the Brazilian national

:00:22.:00:35.

anthem. BRAZILIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS.

:00:36.:00:44.

There we go, the majority of the fans in the arena this evening

:00:45.:00:51.

chanting for Brazil. We can join our commentary team, Charlie Broome and

:00:52.:00:52.

Britpop above. have become inseparable and it is

:00:53.:01:20.

Germany getting this match under way. And it is Bizzell who get the

:01:21.:01:35.

first point -- Brazil. The Brazilian power under all sorts of pressure

:01:36.:01:44.

but they seem to thrive on it. On the other side of the net is a

:01:45.:01:49.

German power which absolutely dismantled the number once -- number

:01:50.:01:55.

one seeds. One of the most impressive displays. Two teams were

:01:56.:02:03.

worthy of a display in a gold-medal match. Both these teams battled

:02:04.:02:07.

fiercely through the semi-final matches, beating some of the most

:02:08.:02:15.

incredible teams in the world. The Brazilians, Agatha Barbara, were

:02:16.:02:24.

unstoppable. -- Agatha and Barbara. Germany were surgical. They were so

:02:25.:02:28.

clean and so precise with everything that they did and that is why both

:02:29.:02:30.

these teams are here tonight. What a block. The key here for the

:02:31.:02:48.

German parent is to get into this game quickly. Every Brazilian point

:02:49.:02:54.

is going to be cheered to the happens. Agatha and Barbara have

:02:55.:03:06.

definitely that of the energy of the crowd. It is not seem to bother the

:03:07.:03:10.

Germans too much as they seemed to go through the favourites. It seems

:03:11.:03:18.

like there was a lot of wind picking up. You can tell by Barbara's out,

:03:19.:03:29.

it is blowing. They would be on the "Bad side". Brazil is what we would

:03:30.:03:38.

say is that good side. It makes the ball more unpredictable. It allows

:03:39.:03:42.

the Brazilians to stay pretty aggressive. Walkenhorst replays that

:03:43.:03:55.

-- repays the block of Agatha. If you are watching beach volleyball

:03:56.:03:58.

for the first time, a quick reminder of the rules. Best-of-3 sets, the

:03:59.:04:08.

first two sets are played up to 21. We see this point played out. It

:04:09.:04:15.

goes the of Brazil. -- the way of Brazil. There will be a sides which

:04:16.:04:28.

-- aside switch. There are also two challenges per team, percept. If you

:04:29.:04:33.

get your challenge right, you keep it. Ludwick plunging forward. --

:04:34.:04:51.

Ludwig. That net can start to blow and cause it to go into the block.

:04:52.:04:55.

Something that all these players are taking into account, but we are also

:04:56.:05:00.

looking at a stadium that seats 12,000. Not only is it one side

:05:01.:05:07.

might be more favourable, but that wind can bounce around and creates

:05:08.:05:08.

serious swirling action. This winter is picked up since the

:05:09.:05:28.

bronze medal match which dished probably one hour and 20 minutes

:05:29.:05:30.

ago. -- this wind has picked up. That is a heavy set from Ludwig. The

:05:31.:05:56.

advantage with Brazil. A good block from Walkenhorst.

:05:57.:06:03.

What a rally. What a rally. Really great work on both sides of the net.

:06:04.:06:13.

Staying calm, saying patient -- stating patient. -- stating patient.

:06:14.:06:23.

That first set by Ludwig was aggressive but she has to get it up

:06:24.:06:30.

into the wind. Knowing how physical Walkenhorst is, she likes her

:06:31.:06:34.

chances, getting a parent tangling with Agatha in the block. -- getting

:06:35.:06:42.

up there and tangling. What an atmosphere to play in. That is

:06:43.:06:51.

another feature of Ludwig. She is very happy to put the ball over the

:06:52.:06:55.

net the first or second time. She likes to change it up. She is known

:06:56.:07:00.

to that, those type of plays. It is most definitely in the Brazilians

:07:01.:07:05.

scouting report. Watch her to go on one, watch her to go on two. They

:07:06.:07:09.

are very precise in the way they score. She missed the cut shot. 6-6.

:07:10.:07:28.

Just hammering into the wind. That was the wind. You can hear it. Look

:07:29.:07:41.

at this, it just died. She created a little bit of a hybrid that without

:07:42.:07:46.

server. That is usually her jump- blood serve. She put a little extra.

:07:47.:08:06.

Digging in all angles is Ludwig. In the end, could not keep it alive.

:08:07.:08:19.

Get there. -- she gets better, she just can't keep it up.

:08:20.:08:37.

Good reactions. In the end, the retreating Walkenhorst who can't do

:08:38.:08:47.

anything about the power from Agatha.

:08:48.:09:09.

Agatha hammering but Walkenhorst is about 1.5, two metres away.

:09:10.:09:30.

Nice work from Ludwig. Are patients and position is what sets her apart.

:09:31.:09:43.

-- her patients and precision is what sets her apart. The good dig.

:09:44.:09:57.

Really well done. Plunging forward. Barbara, keeping it alive. Seeding

:09:58.:10:15.

and 80s. -- saving an ace. Barbara, very much poking, Chipping type of

:10:16.:10:20.

player. She wants to place it before she takes a swing at it.

:10:21.:10:34.

Walkenhorst, to the empty back court. This team has not seemed to

:10:35.:10:42.

rattle once. Once this entire tournament, this entire Olympics,

:10:43.:10:48.

the Germans have been steady and focused, point by point,

:10:49.:10:53.

side-by-side to them. -- side-by-side for them. And that type

:10:54.:11:01.

of focus on that type of calm, that can only come from trusting each

:11:02.:11:06.

other and trusting the work that you have put in, trusting the team that

:11:07.:11:11.

is behind the team that beat the team in the stands, the sports

:11:12.:11:15.

psychologists, the strength coaches, the coaches, the video analysts.

:11:16.:11:20.

There is a lot of trust in that camp and it is paying off for them. So

:11:21.:11:26.

the first technical timeout is Germany who lead by a solitary

:11:27.:11:31.

point. 11- ten. This gold-medal match just couldn't be any closer.

:11:32.:11:39.

Each site also has a timeout. -- side. That was the first side that

:11:40.:11:46.

was on what would be considered the bad side. Both of these teams, both

:11:47.:11:54.

Germany and Brazil, started the set by winning the right side of the

:11:55.:12:04.

court to your screen. That was the first time that Germany won the bad

:12:05.:12:12.

side. This is the view from the helicopter looking at Copacabana.

:12:13.:12:21.

This entire tournament, the wind has been coming from Ipanema, from right

:12:22.:12:26.

to left. A bit of a change for the players. The audience doesn't care,

:12:27.:12:34.

they are watching beach will all. It is howling. If we can see the wind

:12:35.:12:40.

and that flag whipping down on the sand, you can imagine what it is

:12:41.:12:48.

doing up in the nosebleed section. Walkenhorst is taking full advantage

:12:49.:12:52.

of the wind being in her face. That allows an extra metre to play with.

:12:53.:12:57.

She can hit the ball that much harder because she knows the wind is

:12:58.:13:01.

going to pull it. It will be a string that will pull it back for

:13:02.:13:03.

her. I get the roles that. -- Agatha

:13:04.:13:18.

rolls it. They are true professionals. They are not afraid

:13:19.:13:22.

of the wind. Sometimes the wind can cause mental fatigue. You are always

:13:23.:13:27.

thinking about it. You see which direction it is actually blowing.

:13:28.:13:32.

They always playing it rather than against it. Both of these sites,

:13:33.:13:38.

both of these teams, extremely good at making the wind their friend. --

:13:39.:13:47.

sides. Walkenhorst talking to the referee. He will have to have a look

:13:48.:13:52.

at the sand. Very close. From that angle, it

:13:53.:13:55.

looked like it bounced the line. The Germans, getting a little bit

:13:56.:14:19.

too aggressive with their setting. They definitely are looking to stay

:14:20.:14:23.

aggressive but sometimes you got to walk a fine line. They are pre-1 up

:14:24.:14:31.

in the set of seven from the left-hand side. -- -- 3-1. That was

:14:32.:14:50.

touched by Brazil. The Germans have been working on a very high set from

:14:51.:14:59.

the beginning of the year. It got a little macro one but they stuck with

:15:00.:15:03.

it in overtime, it is paid off. -- it's got a little squirly. This wind

:15:04.:15:10.

will make it very difficult to judge. Walkenhorst, a good block.

:15:11.:15:20.

Walkenhorst, when she can put her hands on it, it comes up so clean.

:15:21.:15:24.

It is very, very pretty. Ludwig going to that seems that got

:15:25.:15:47.

her and earlier in the set. The cut shot gives them a chance to extend

:15:48.:15:53.

their lead. Walkenhorst has one of the heaviest

:15:54.:16:07.

arms in the game. That is why it is taped up. It has taken a lot of

:16:08.:16:11.

swings. There are only so many bullets in that gun but she has a

:16:12.:16:14.

few more rounds left in her, I believe. Brazil just trying to put a

:16:15.:16:33.

sting in the game. This is the sixth time these players have met since

:16:34.:16:34.

June last year. We can see the draw and how they got

:16:35.:16:46.

to this gold-medal match. Agatha and Barbora won the first one in June

:16:47.:16:58.

last year. -- Barbara. They won in Yokohama Boer, -- they won in the

:16:59.:17:07.

Yokohama match in the gold medal match in Hamburg. -- and in the

:17:08.:17:13.

gold-medal match in Hamburg. It is very difficult to deal with

:17:14.:17:34.

the southpaw, to deal with the lefty. But Walker Horst --

:17:35.:17:46.

Walkenhorst did an incredible job. That is such a great and gutsy

:17:47.:17:56.

adjustment by the Germans, knowing that Bednarczuk likes to get chippy,

:17:57.:17:59.

that is not a mistake that she makes. But Germany talked her into

:18:00.:18:01.

it. That will have too much on it.

:18:02.:18:14.

Ludwick played it. She didn't need to. That is a let off for Brazil. It

:18:15.:18:22.

is the window that made good weed play that. -- the wind that made

:18:23.:18:28.

Ludwig played out. She has not let it affect her. Great

:18:29.:18:49.

mental agility by Ludwig's to come back and take care of business.

:18:50.:19:09.

Brazil need to start winning points on their serve year. -- here.

:19:10.:19:24.

Very good dig from Brazil! Net violation, is it? It has gone the

:19:25.:19:46.

way of Brazil. They both aggressively when Tian Foret, and

:19:47.:19:51.

they both celebrated just as aggressively. It is hard to tell.

:19:52.:20:04.

Laura Ludwig was definitely the aggressor on that. Germany still

:20:05.:20:10.

being very aggressive with their setting. That is the follow. That

:20:11.:20:18.

gets them to within two points of this first set.

:20:19.:20:45.

That is an important spike. Great play by the Brazilians. That is how

:20:46.:20:53.

they started their semi-final match against Kerri Walsh Jennings and

:20:54.:20:58.

Abel Ross. Really good control on the received, running back plays

:20:59.:21:01.

behind the centre and spreading the defence as far as they can. It makes

:21:02.:21:13.

the defence extremely uncomfortable. Walkenhorst pounces to bring up

:21:14.:21:21.

three set points. Stays in the player, stays in the aggressor. It

:21:22.:21:26.

is a much different feeling when a team takes the court and is looking

:21:27.:21:28.

to score and they are the aggressors. The next point comes on

:21:29.:21:40.

the Brazilians serve. The next two, if they required, will both be on

:21:41.:21:42.

the Brazilian serve. Germany are in front in this gold

:21:43.:22:04.

medal match. The pocket of German supporters rise as one to cheer.

:22:05.:22:08.

Listen to how quiet the stadium is now. We mentioned before that what

:22:09.:22:12.

the German pair need to do to get into the match and quieten the

:22:13.:22:15.

crowd, well, they have done that in the first set, because they won it

:22:16.:22:22.

21 - 80. So it is Germany who take the lead

:22:23.:22:25.

in the beach of old of all. Let's just show you what has been

:22:26.:22:30.

happening in the indoor volleyball. It is Brazil against Argentina. Look

:22:31.:22:35.

at what happens here. Brazil needing just one more point to win it. A

:22:36.:22:43.

deflection, and a look at that. Amazing. Heartbreak for Argentina.

:22:44.:22:53.

In 2012, Russia won gold, Brazil won silver, Italy won bronze. But for

:22:54.:22:58.

Brazil, this is the one they want. This, and the gold medal in the

:22:59.:23:03.

men's football tournament, especially after the women lost

:23:04.:23:07.

yesterday evening to China. This is a massive, massive result. And that

:23:08.:23:12.

is what it means if you are an Argentinian volleyball player, that

:23:13.:23:15.

is what it is like to lose to your biggest rivals. Amazing.

:23:16.:23:25.

That is the indoor volleyball. Let's go back to the beach followed Latvia

:23:26.:23:34.

and of the iconic -- beach volleyball at the end of the iconic

:23:35.:23:41.

Copacabana. She really stays behind the ball well. Her shoulders are

:23:42.:23:42.

textbook. Yes! Hang time from Walkenhorst.

:23:43.:24:01.

What a great read. A step in, a bit of a delay on the ground, knowing

:24:02.:24:08.

that she might want to be shooting. And just outreach is. The finish, it

:24:09.:24:16.

is one thing to touch it but it is something else to finish it throw it

:24:17.:24:17.

down. 2-0, Germany. Rozelle are on the

:24:18.:24:32.

board in the second set. -- Brazil. Trying to take some sort of

:24:33.:24:36.

momentum, trying to figure out how they are going to get these points

:24:37.:24:39.

against a very, very tough German team.

:24:40.:24:53.

Blasting away. Again, Walkenhorst, not only does she have such a heavy

:24:54.:25:07.

arm, but she can that handset, which is an extremely difficult skill for

:25:08.:25:08.

the women. She is there again. Those are the

:25:09.:25:24.

details that separate a gold medal team from the rest of the world. It

:25:25.:25:33.

happens in the fingertips. Gray again, she seems to hang of

:25:34.:25:40.

outrages. -- again, she seems to hang there for ages. Early advantage

:25:41.:25:47.

to Germany, but plenty of time for Brazil to fight their way back into

:25:48.:25:53.

this. Lyle Ludwig puts away the spike. This is almost a repetition

:25:54.:25:58.

of the semi-final, except in the semi-final, they were down three

:25:59.:26:03.

quarters of the way through the first set. This time they led for

:26:04.:26:09.

most of the first set, and Brazil have gone for the timeout. They are

:26:10.:26:14.

hoping this works because they will have nothing left after the

:26:15.:26:15.

technical timeout. This team does a great job of

:26:16.:26:34.

competing with one another. They are very clean, very respectful. Very

:26:35.:26:39.

relaxed. They are sharing good information, going across. I am not

:26:40.:26:45.

sure there is much that Walkenhorst and Ludwig can say to each other.

:26:46.:26:56.

Because it is not going to get much better for each other. Yes, a

:26:57.:27:01.

timeout like this might simply go, hey, you'd do you. -- you do you.

:27:02.:27:13.

That is what Bednarczuk and Seixas are trying to break by calling this

:27:14.:27:18.

timeout. Dear me, that is incredible. That is three or four in

:27:19.:27:26.

this set. I think it is three. It is going to be imperative as they

:27:27.:27:30.

switch to the good side, a 6-1 switch. Anything past 4-3 switch, if

:27:31.:27:39.

you can get a 5-2, that is a bonus. 6-1, well, you are closing in on a

:27:40.:27:44.

set pretty quickly if that is what you can keep up and you can get

:27:45.:27:51.

strung together. Well, we have seen some extraordinary turnarounds in

:27:52.:27:53.

the Scottish and thus far. I would not write off the Brazilians to

:27:54.:28:04.

quickly. No doubt about it. Who is to say what those players are

:28:05.:28:08.

actually feeling down there? As far as wind is concerned. Sometimes that

:28:09.:28:14.

switch will give you a little boost of confidence, like, OK, we are all

:28:15.:28:15.

right. And they switch it up and they go

:28:16.:28:33.

after Walkenhorst, but when Germany is on that side, they have been

:28:34.:28:40.

pounding Bednarczuk. There is something telling me that that

:28:41.:28:43.

corner might be the tough quarter. -- the tough quad. Difficult

:28:44.:28:51.

conditions for these players. Look at the flag. Not tugging as hard as

:28:52.:28:59.

it once was, but it is still pretty windy down there.

:29:00.:29:08.

If I was Germany at this point I would be prepared for a back set.

:29:09.:29:14.

That has been working from Brazil. They like to go to that, because

:29:15.:29:18.

that is a bit of their bailout, to run the defence around.

:29:19.:29:29.

Second ball finds the open court. It is looking healthy for Brazil, now.

:29:30.:30:11.

Walkenhorst hangs tough again to make yet another block. That is six

:30:12.:30:14.

in the match. Four blocks in set number 24 Walton

:30:15.:30:47.

Horst. --4 Walkenhorst. Walkenhorst with a net violation. Germany, they

:30:48.:31:02.

set that play up extremely well. To put Ludwig in a great defensive

:31:03.:31:03.

position. That side of the net has created

:31:04.:31:46.

three net violations. This one goes against Brazil. But what Brazil has

:31:47.:31:53.

done is they have switched sides. Agatha is now on the right side.

:31:54.:32:00.

They are still going after Barbara, which is the non-dominant side and

:32:01.:32:05.

because she is a lefty, she handles it well. That indicates to me that

:32:06.:32:21.

if you divide the court into fours, the quadrant Agatha started on is

:32:22.:32:25.

the one that is the most difficult to receive.

:32:26.:32:38.

Excellent dig. Can she finish it off? No, because Ludvig is there. --

:32:39.:32:45.

Ludwig's. Another excellent rally. It is a

:32:46.:32:55.

point to Germany. Right now, they are looking pretty unstoppable. A

:32:56.:32:59.

heck of a shot by Barbara. Germany is still staying aggressive

:33:00.:33:10.

with their setting, waiting to the opportunity to score.

:33:11.:33:24.

It finds the mark. Squeezed it just passed Walkenhorst. In 2013, she was

:33:25.:33:36.

both the most improved and top ranking. In three years, here she

:33:37.:33:37.

is. Real power from Walkenhorst. She has

:33:38.:34:14.

been digging well, Barbara, but no reply to that.

:34:15.:34:23.

That is the technical timeout. Germany are really in the box seat

:34:24.:34:44.

here. They took the first set. 20- 18, in a previous game. This sat,

:34:45.:34:55.

21- 18. They are in the box seat. The favourites right now.

:34:56.:35:06.

Walkenhorst has just been blocking the run here. The German women are

:35:07.:35:13.

bringing such could energy and its authentic. Not forcing celebrations.

:35:14.:35:18.

They are staying within themselves. It's really, really beautiful game

:35:19.:35:23.

that they are putting over this last warned and we get a glimpse of their

:35:24.:35:33.

brilliance. -- last section. All the work that has been developed.

:35:34.:35:40.

Barbara to serve. She and Agatha are right up against it here.

:35:41.:35:50.

Walkenhorst, yes, that is fantastic. Poor old Barbora comes up with one

:35:51.:35:53.

of the best things we've seen in probably the whole tournament. --

:35:54.:35:55.

Barbara. What a layout. Again, on the block. They are

:35:56.:36:56.

fighting. Every point here, Agatha and Barbara. We talk about timing

:36:57.:37:06.

and spacing and how imperative it is but the angles of this game are ever

:37:07.:37:11.

shifting. Then you through the element of the wind in. It can

:37:12.:37:16.

change the ball so drastically in flight. It is fascinating.

:37:17.:37:19.

Fascinating and brilliant that Barbara is in the right position

:37:20.:37:42.

more often than not. Just drops it. That is a great presence of mind.

:37:43.:37:54.

Good work. Good communication by the Brazilians. Barbara talked to Agatha

:37:55.:38:06.

to go over the block, and it didn't need to be sharp, it just needed to

:38:07.:38:10.

be where Ludwig was not. She has kept it alive. She stayed

:38:11.:38:32.

with it. They are back to within three.

:38:33.:38:40.

The final throes of the match. The deficit that came in the first seven

:38:41.:39:35.

points. You can kind of see a lower mouthpiece on Agatha and Barbara.

:39:36.:39:39.

There have been many studies in sports science and psychology, the

:39:40.:39:44.

teeth actually releases the drug cortisol into the brain, which is

:39:45.:39:50.

your fight or flight drug. Breeding calms you down. These athletes are

:39:51.:39:54.

so dialled in to what their numbers are, whether they need to get more

:39:55.:39:58.

excited or whether they need to calm down. Overexcitement causes issues,

:39:59.:40:06.

being too relaxed causes issues. Psychologically, knowing where you

:40:07.:40:13.

are wrapped -- where you are, some players need to calm down. Some

:40:14.:40:14.

players need to get amped up. It just slides wide. Germany led 12-

:40:15.:40:37.

six. Brazil won seven of the last ten points. They could do the same

:40:38.:40:43.

again. They could get their nose in front before the end of the set.

:40:44.:40:50.

Look at the wind. Curling the ball away. Big adjustment from

:40:51.:41:00.

Walkenhorst. Exactly. I mentioned there high, high set. They have been

:41:01.:41:06.

working on executing it extremely well. They are having to completely

:41:07.:41:09.

abandon that and go to a lower set because the wind is now involved.

:41:10.:41:13.

The wind just killed that serve as well. Just as I talked about Brazil

:41:14.:41:19.

getting back into it, look at that. That has just died on Agatha. They

:41:20.:41:29.

got to keep believing, Brazil, because just as quickly as Germany

:41:30.:41:35.

ran out into that early lead, Brazil might have a late run. Look at that.

:41:36.:41:42.

The wind. This is getting very ominous for Brazil.

:41:43.:41:56.

It is so important to stay low, get that set up. Look how far up she

:41:57.:42:09.

stepped. Oh, you're kidding me. They kept it alive that they couldn't get

:42:10.:42:15.

it back over the net. It is seven gold-medal points for Germany. I

:42:16.:42:21.

said I didn't think they would win the second set 21- 12. They might

:42:22.:42:28.

win a 21- the team -- 21- 13. A great block from Walkenhorst. This

:42:29.:42:32.

is it, the first of seven gold-medal points. They scramble for position.

:42:33.:42:41.

They will have to wait a little longer. She was too much on it. The

:42:42.:42:57.

second match point comes on Brazil's sir. -- serve. It is wide and it is

:42:58.:43:09.

all over. Germany are the Olympic champions. They have taken the

:43:10.:43:21.

gold-medal match by two sets to nil. 21- 18, 20 1- 14. They are the

:43:22.:43:26.

Olympic champions in Rio. A thoroughly deferred -- deserved

:43:27.:43:38.

title. Ludwig and Walkenhorst have one. The European champions have

:43:39.:43:41.

beaten the world champions and as always, in situations like this,

:43:42.:43:46.

there are two sides of the coin. The joy of the winners and the despair

:43:47.:43:47.

of the losers. That is a heartbreak for Brazil.

:43:48.:43:57.

They desperately wanted the gold medal on the beach volleyball in

:43:58.:44:02.

this competition. A packed arena at Copacabana. Late-night drama. Well

:44:03.:44:08.

played, Germany. Ludwig and Walkenhorst stunned the gold-medal

:44:09.:44:13.

favourites to make the final and by winning that match, they made sure

:44:14.:44:16.

that Germany would win their first ever Olympic medal on the beach

:44:17.:44:21.

volleyball. The German would men won the gold medal in London and look at

:44:22.:44:26.

that, that is Olympic joy. -- the German men. They were brilliant this

:44:27.:44:30.

evening. When your luck is not in, it is simply not in. Genuine

:44:31.:44:34.

heartbreak for Brazil. They were never really in it. The German flag

:44:35.:44:38.

is waved proudly on the Copacabana beach. Great scenes for Germany.

:44:39.:44:45.

Gold-medal winners. A lot of people had Brazil down to be favourites,

:44:46.:44:50.

simply because it is a home game and they were absolutely wonderful

:44:51.:44:54.

yesterday in despatching the Americans but it is Germany's night

:44:55.:44:55.

in Rio tonight. Well, you know volleyball is a real

:44:56.:45:05.

passion here in Brazil, especially in Rio and especially when you are

:45:06.:45:10.

taking on Argentina. Earlier, we showed you when Brazil's men took on

:45:11.:45:15.

Argentina. Let's relive those wonderful sings again. -- scenes.

:45:16.:45:25.

Can they move further ahead? Wallace goes for the float. Couldn't really

:45:26.:45:37.

get much of a swing now. That is dropped out. Argentina take

:45:38.:45:45.

advantage. That wasn't the best set. They had to stop, a standing start,

:45:46.:45:51.

really. You got to credit both teams. It is much defence as

:45:52.:46:04.

deficiency. It is very frustrating when it misses. A really sensitive

:46:05.:46:09.

time. It is whoever makes a run from here on in. Suddenly seeing the

:46:10.:46:20.

finish line on top of a hill. They need to take this third set for the

:46:21.:46:22.

win. First serve for two sets. He is the

:46:23.:46:35.

master observing. He hasn't got a point of that one.

:46:36.:46:50.

Gonzales will return. On comes Lima. Can they capitalise? This serve

:46:51.:47:01.

needs to be good. It is certainly in play. Take that.

:47:02.:47:31.

How many times do we see it? Now it is Lipe.

:47:32.:47:52.

Good leave, right decision. Judged it perfectly, Lucarelli. Don't mind

:47:53.:48:02.

me. I thought that was in. No clear lead for Brazil. It is what

:48:03.:48:32.

they want more than anything here. Argentina back on serve at 18- 18.

:48:33.:48:40.

Straight into the net, not even close to tipping over from Sole.

:48:41.:48:52.

Server Argentina, Alexa Gonzalez comes back on. -- Alexis. It will

:48:53.:49:01.

stiffen their defence. Brazil have the serve.

:49:02.:49:11.

Look at that scoreboard! Into the 20s. Go Brazil, two once clear. They

:49:12.:49:21.

get to 25 and the match is done. What a serve as well, to start

:49:22.:49:24.

Brazil off in that a rally. Argentina always playing catch-up.

:49:25.:49:27.

Yes, they found the dig. A big couple of minutes now for both

:49:28.:50:01.

of these teams, for different reasons. Certainly for Argentina.

:50:02.:50:12.

Receiving this Brazil serve. 18- 20 down, and we are getting towards the

:50:13.:50:19.

last chance saloon for Argentina. De Souza will serve.

:50:20.:50:31.

That is a great spike. Not the best of serve low. Not the most powerful.

:50:32.:50:41.

A bit flat, wasn't it? Look at the gap.

:50:42.:50:55.

Spike! 21- 19. That is the lift. Brazil have the finish line in

:50:56.:51:10.

sight. Textbook stuff, really. 21- 20. It is a move that has worked

:51:11.:51:40.

wonders for them, generally, in this set.

:51:41.:51:48.

Yes! The high set, Sergio Lucas takes the point 22- 20.

:51:49.:52:12.

Straightaway, Sergio Bruno Lucas. All forward movements, having

:52:13.:52:16.

received the serve. It is taking the spike early, isn't it? Not waiting

:52:17.:52:20.

for the ball to drop. Almost catching it on the up spin. 22- 20.

:52:21.:52:33.

Deep serve. Argentina set in. Brazilian blocks, very good.

:52:34.:52:38.

That has gone straight out. Top score of the match so far with 22

:52:39.:52:48.

points. That one escaped. More to the point, Argentina are just one

:52:49.:52:49.

behind. It is which way the coin falls

:52:50.:53:15.

there. Timeout for Brazil, not surprisingly. They were on their

:53:16.:53:24.

way, 22- 20. They just got lost. Just like that. They can often be as

:53:25.:53:27.

random as coin tosses. What a quarter-final, Jonathan. What

:53:28.:53:47.

a noise. Whether you are from Brazil, or from Argentina. Just let

:53:48.:53:54.

the world know that you are here. And still, it is anybody's set, in a

:53:55.:54:01.

sense, anybody's match. Brazil have the edge on sets, but all these

:54:02.:54:07.

players for Argentina know they still have it in their power to

:54:08.:54:12.

close this out. Mighty bloc! What it has fallen for Brazil out of court.

:54:13.:54:18.

Brazil edges ahead with serve. Lucarelli, the wounded soldier. Just

:54:19.:54:44.

when he needed a special race, he was the man who scored the 19 points

:54:45.:54:48.

to see off Argentina two months ago. It has gone begging. Now Argentina

:54:49.:54:54.

have the chance. Gonzalo is, he has done very little wrong since coming

:54:55.:55:05.

on. -- Ghazal is. -- Gonzales. Straight into the net. What a way to

:55:06.:55:10.

offer up the match point. There is an expression. If ever an expression

:55:11.:55:16.

gave away the worry... Surrounded by dancing Brazilian fans. And

:55:17.:55:22.

Argentina fan is now staring defeat firmly in the face. And they will be

:55:23.:55:27.

dancing all night long in Rio de Janeiro if they can end this match

:55:28.:55:34.

point. Russia await in the semi-final. Surely that is a Brazil

:55:35.:55:45.

score? Game, set and match. So, Brazil go through to face Russia.

:55:46.:55:58.

Relief and joy, inside the stadium. After what happened to the women in

:55:59.:56:03.

this very stadium 24 hours ago, the last this nation needed, some might

:56:04.:56:06.

say the last this competition needed, was for the men's Brazilian

:56:07.:56:11.

volleyball team to go out. They have rallied and taken the first -- taken

:56:12.:56:17.

the second set. They were Warriors rolling around this arena, but the

:56:18.:56:22.

losing finalist from the last two Olympic Games, the champions from

:56:23.:56:29.

2004, dubbed deep. They took the third set and now these celebrations

:56:30.:56:36.

can ring around the stadium. Three sets to one.

:56:37.:56:44.

Jonathan Leichardt and Andy Bowditch talking us through that fantastic

:56:45.:56:48.

match for Brazil. This is the medal table. 16 gold medals won today. The

:56:49.:56:53.

last on went to Germany, beating Brazil in the women's final at

:56:54.:56:58.

divisional of all. No medals for Great Britain today, although Hannah

:56:59.:57:01.

Mills and Saskia Clark will win gold in the 470 sailing when they

:57:02.:57:05.

complete their race. It was cancelled today due to a lack of

:57:06.:57:08.

wind. Lots of you still getting in touch with us on Twitter. Prakash

:57:09.:57:12.

says, it is like I am living on Brazil in time, I have been watching

:57:13.:57:15.

you until finish every night. Thank you, cash. There are lots of people

:57:16.:57:22.

who are still watching. It appears they have been fuelled by lots of

:57:23.:57:26.

drink, both soft and alcoholic. That is absolutely fine. You still with.

:57:27.:57:31.

Thank you for watching. No gold medals for Great Britain today, but

:57:32.:57:34.
