HAZEL IRVINE: You are watching a jump off for the medals in the

:00:08.:00:13.

individual show-jumping event here in Rio.

:00:14.:00:16.

Great Britain's Nick Skelton is one of the six competitors in it. He is

:00:17.:00:21.

the only one clear soap bar. This is the fourth competitor, Kent

:00:22.:00:27.

Farrington of the United States -- side bar. Coverage continues on BBC

:00:28.:00:32.

One, for those of you watching on BBC Two, I would politely ask you to

:00:33.:00:36.

reach for the remote and join us on the other side for the continuation

:00:37.:00:37.

of this jump off. Kent Farrington had the first fence

:00:38.:00:50.

down. He is galloping, really flying, but it is not going to beat

:00:51.:00:56.

Nick Skelton because he hit the first fence. And we have got a

:00:57.:01:03.

medal, no doubt we have got a medal. Last fence as well. Finishing on

:01:04.:01:06.

eight. Well, two to go and as it stands at

:01:07.:01:23.

the moment, we have definitely got a medal to take home from

:01:24.:01:26.

show-jumping. Get the champagne on ice. Will it be gold, will it be

:01:27.:01:37.

silver, will it be bronze? The owners just saying to Nick, you are

:01:38.:01:40.

going to be back in therefore a medal ceremony.

:01:41.:01:52.

All In and Fredricson for Sweden. He has been so consistent, that is why

:01:53.:02:06.

he is late in the draw. Him and Eric LeMay -- Eric Lamaze have won the

:02:07.:02:14.

right to be there. Nick Skelton was the first to go clear in 42.82.

:02:15.:02:26.

Fredricson is a very quick rider, forward with, motoring. He is clear.

:02:27.:02:33.

Little bit quicker, perhaps. It is close, it is very close. This turn

:02:34.:02:40.

is absolutely crucial. Just the last. The time to beat is 42.82. He

:02:41.:02:47.

is not going to do it. He is just a little bit slower and Nick is still

:02:48.:02:55.

in gold medal position. 43.30 five. Nick has got a medal, we have said

:02:56.:03:00.

that already. He has definitely got a medal at the moment. He is

:03:01.:03:05.

definitely going to get a silver one. The last one go will decide

:03:06.:03:14.

whether gold goes. I don't know about your heart, Mike, how much

:03:15.:03:17.

more of this can we take? Nick was the first to go, he has set the

:03:18.:03:21.

standard. He will definitely get the silver medal but the last man to go

:03:22.:03:26.

is one of the quickest in the world and he is a man who has done it all

:03:27.:03:31.

before. He did it in Hong Kong Beijing with the great Hickstead. He

:03:32.:03:37.

has had to buy horses to follow the great Hickstead but, my gosh, he has

:03:38.:03:41.

bought well and this horse sees him in with a real possibility but Nick

:03:42.:03:45.

has said such a good target. I repeat again, that time 42.82. He

:03:46.:03:54.

needs to be over the water at about 28.8 to be in touch. Eric Lamaze

:03:55.:04:00.

going for gold. A little bit wider into the second fence. Very tight

:04:01.:04:05.

here. Again, just a little bit wider. Taking a bit of a pull into

:04:06.:04:11.

the double. Still clear. We will look at the time check. I think this

:04:12.:04:18.

is a bit quicker. He is really covering the ground, galloping

:04:19.:04:20.

around this corner absolutely flat out. It's gone! Nick has got gold!

:04:21.:04:34.

What a competition! Four it is, for the record 42.0 nine. It means Nick

:04:35.:04:43.

Skelton will take the gold for Great Britain. The silver goes Fredricson

:04:44.:04:48.

with All In and it is for Eric Lamaze and Fine Lady. I did tell you

:04:49.:04:57.

this morning that was going to happen! We all hoped, we all dream,

:04:58.:05:01.

we all believed that Big Star and Nick Skelton could do it. He has

:05:02.:05:06.

nursed this horse, taken so much time and trouble to get fit and

:05:07.:05:11.

ready to come here and win the gold medal for Britain. What an

:05:12.:05:16.

extraordinary performance. You can see the embracing going on, just how

:05:17.:05:22.

popular this is. This man has hardly got a bone in his body, but he put

:05:23.:05:28.

it on the line, he put Big Star on the line. Their management skills

:05:29.:05:33.

shown not only in show-jumping but in racing two, the Skeltons have got

:05:34.:05:38.

that and it has all come down to a fabulous gold medal to end the

:05:39.:05:42.

equestrian Olympic Games here in Rio de Janeiro. It really is something

:05:43.:05:49.

that has been a dream and we wonder whether dreams do come true, but

:05:50.:05:53.

they have today. For Nick Skelton, all his dreams have come true.

:05:54.:05:57.

Beverley, the owner. Congratulations all round.

:05:58.:06:13.

Well, I don't know about you at home, but we are fairly drained

:06:14.:06:20.

here. There is Fredricson, hasn't he done well. He will take a little bit

:06:21.:06:26.

of pride out of that, because he has always been a great competitor, he

:06:27.:06:30.

rode in the Barcelona Olympics as an event rider but turned his attention

:06:31.:06:36.

to show-jumping. He has gone on climbing to what has turned out to

:06:37.:06:43.

be a silver medal individually. There is Diane Lampard. She has had

:06:44.:06:47.

her neck on the line as team manager. Disappointment for Britain

:06:48.:06:50.

in the team but it has all come right thanks to this man's efforts,

:06:51.:06:57.

Nick Skelton. It is good for show-jumping back in Britain, it is

:06:58.:07:02.

good for equestrian back in Britain. This man has really shown what

:07:03.:07:03.

determination and skill can do. Well, the medal ceremony won't be

:07:04.:07:16.

too far away but still the congratulations come ringing in. And

:07:17.:07:20.

look at Big Star. That is the champion, really. He knew he should

:07:21.:07:23.

have won an individual medal in London. He just hoped and hoped he

:07:24.:07:29.

might get another chance. It has gone so near to not happening but at

:07:30.:07:32.

the end of the day, all of the hard work, all of the patients has been

:07:33.:07:35.

rewarded with a gold medal at the Olympics. -- patience.

:07:36.:07:45.

HAZEL IRVINE: Nick Skelton, no wonder he is signing autographs, he

:07:46.:07:52.

is the star on Big Star. Big Star is the brightest star out there. Nick

:07:53.:07:56.

and Big Star the only horse and rider combination to go three rounds

:07:57.:08:00.

clear today and that was enough to give him a gold medal in his seventh

:08:01.:08:05.

Games, a record for a great British competitor, and he has been such a

:08:06.:08:08.

wonderful servant to equestrian sport in Great Britain, it is no

:08:09.:08:14.

less than he deserves. Gold for Nick Skelton, the first medal in the

:08:15.:08:18.

individual event for 44 years the Great Britain and it is gold. There

:08:19.:08:23.

will be a lot of celebrations, it is the 23rd gold for Britain in Rio and

:08:24.:08:27.

I am sure, Clare Balding, that one in particular will be so valued and

:08:28.:08:31.

so special to every member of the team.

:08:32.:08:34.

I can guarantee you this, when Nick Skelton gets to Lee McKenzie, he

:08:35.:08:39.

will be incredibly emotional. It was back in Athens when he really felt

:08:40.:08:43.

he should have won the gold medal. Suddenly had a fence down. It was a

:08:44.:08:47.

weird night when they had the final round, I think the spotlights were

:08:48.:08:52.

right in the horses' eyes and he felt he should have won a gold

:08:53.:08:56.

medal. Here he is at 58, his seventh Olympics and he has won gold. Medal

:08:57.:09:01.

ceremony, the interview and everything to come as we mop up the

:09:02.:09:04.

show-jumping but here is what we have to come this evening. Very

:09:05.:09:10.

shortly, we will show you Joe Joyce's semifinal, win that in the

:09:11.:09:13.

superheavyweight category and he is into the gold medal fight. At the

:09:14.:09:17.

same time, Lutalo Mohammad will be in the quarterfinal of the

:09:18.:09:20.

taekwondo, we will catch up with that. I will be speaking to Jade

:09:21.:09:25.

Jones, who defended her taekwondo title and we will be previewing

:09:26.:09:29.

tonight's hockey because at nine o'clock on BBC One, we are live at

:09:30.:09:34.

the gold medal match between Great Britain and the Netherlands. Let's

:09:35.:09:38.

had over towards the boxing because the first of the semifinals is under

:09:39.:09:43.

way and it features Tony Yoka of France against Filip Hrgovic of

:09:44.:09:49.

Croatia. Anthony Joshua is with me and the

:09:50.:09:55.

semifinals are the worst time to go out of the medals but at least you

:09:56.:09:56.

get a bronze medal in the boxing event. But no one will be thinking

:09:57.:10:01.

in these terms. Two big men and two big punches. Yes and as you said, no

:10:02.:10:05.

one wants to go out now, they have come this far and the mentality is,

:10:06.:10:10.

I might as well go all the way. I know Tony Yoka from France, I have

:10:11.:10:13.

sparred with him and he has a phenomenal jab, very quick. Filip

:10:14.:10:20.

Hrgovic was the last man to be Joe Joyce. It is interesting to see the

:10:21.:10:24.

level and who Joe could possibly be facing. Two giants, as you can see.

:10:25.:10:29.

First of all, this is the first semifinal in the superheavyweight

:10:30.:10:33.

category and Richie Woodhall and Ron mocking Tosh ready to go.

:10:34.:10:40.

-- Ron Macintosh. RONALD MCINTOSH: This is a match

:10:41.:10:48.

between number macro boxers who know very -- each other very well. The

:10:49.:10:51.

man in red, operating on the perimeter of the Ring, Tony Yoka,

:10:52.:10:56.

the number one ranked boxer in the world, reigning Commonwealth Games

:10:57.:11:02.

gold-medallist, and his opponent is the reigning European championship

:11:03.:11:06.

gold-medallist, Filip Hrgovic from Croatia. They know each other very

:11:07.:11:13.

well, they met at the quarterfinal stage last year, and Tony Yoka

:11:14.:11:17.

prevailed, and they met way back when they were teenagers in the 2010

:11:18.:11:22.

youths championship gold medal bout and on that occasion, the man in

:11:23.:11:25.

blue had his hand raised to take world youth gold. So the rivalry is

:11:26.:11:29.

tied one-on-one, who will prevail here to go through and contest

:11:30.:11:33.

Olympic gold? RICHIE WOODHALL: The majority of the

:11:34.:11:37.

time, both of these boxes have the height to reach over their opponent,

:11:38.:11:42.

but here, it is even Stephen. Tony Yoka has the slight advantage of

:11:43.:11:48.

prevailing over his opponents in the tournament but Hrgovic has started

:11:49.:11:52.

very well, he is more convincing with that jab. He is starting to

:11:53.:11:56.

settle into a rhythm, the man in blue. Yoka a little bit slow on the

:11:57.:12:01.

outside, needs a bit more time and space to work. But this is not a bad

:12:02.:12:11.

start from Hrgovic. Flat-footed and less dynamic around the ring but

:12:12.:12:16.

Yoka, only 24, as is Hrgovic, has been around the elite end of boxing

:12:17.:12:23.

for a long time, the yoke on Yoka was that he didn't have the talent

:12:24.:12:29.

to go with resolve, but you can't say that any more. But you can say

:12:30.:12:35.

the same about Hrgovic, so who is going to come out on top? The

:12:36.:12:41.

flat-footed boxer in blue is throwing the greater volume of

:12:42.:12:46.

punches. Not only that, he is throwing better punches going

:12:47.:12:50.

forward, so he is actually looking more impressive on that front foot.

:12:51.:12:54.

It is difficult to give anything for Yoka. He has had a little bit of

:12:55.:13:00.

success occasionally but on that back foot, he's boxing very

:13:01.:13:03.

negatively than me. And Hrgovic is beating him to the punches, getting

:13:04.:13:08.

there with his right hand. This is not a bad round for the man in blue.

:13:09.:13:13.

Very good start, commanding the centre ring. In with a left

:13:14.:13:18.

uppercut. A flurry from Yoka in response. A lot of French fans in

:13:19.:13:23.

attendance, cheering everything he is doing but is he doing enough to

:13:24.:13:27.

overcome the almost incessant jab being poked out by Hrgovic. That was

:13:28.:13:38.

a good hand by Yoka. BELL. A very good round of boxing.

:13:39.:13:43.

The man in the centre of the picture ahead of boxing. Yoka is one half of

:13:44.:13:52.

France's golden couple. The woman he is planning to marry is contesting

:13:53.:13:56.

lightweight gold at the end of this session, but back to this contest.

:13:57.:14:01.

The man in blue lands with the better shots per me during this

:14:02.:14:05.

round, more positive on the front foot. It took awhile for Yoka to get

:14:06.:14:09.

into the round. Let's have a look at the scores. I totally disagree with

:14:10.:14:16.

that. Hrgovic from the totally won that round. It is amazing that Yoka

:14:17.:14:24.

has got it on the back foot. -- Hrgovic for me totally won that

:14:25.:14:27.

round. BELL.

:14:28.:14:40.

We are into the second round of this 91 kilograms plus superheavyweight

:14:41.:14:44.

semifinal and the man wearing blue, who boxed in this type of posture

:14:45.:14:47.

and vein throughout round one conceded the opening round across

:14:48.:14:51.

the board. He got to him with a good right hand, Hrgovic. Tony Yoka took

:14:52.:14:57.

the opening round for all three judges, so he is in a good position

:14:58.:15:01.

coming into the second round. The second semifinal, featuring the

:15:02.:15:05.

number three and number two seeds, that is next and features Great

:15:06.:15:08.

Britain's Joe Joyce, so stick around for that one as he tries to book his

:15:09.:15:13.

place in the gold-medal bout. But Yoka, when he was really out of had

:15:14.:15:18.

punched, had boxed, at least from our vantage point, the majority of

:15:19.:15:24.

round one has taken the opening round unanimously -- out rocks. He

:15:25.:15:31.

is a lucky lad. It took him two minutes of the opening round to get

:15:32.:15:34.

going. He had a bit of success here and there but for me, the man in

:15:35.:15:39.

blue is in control. Here now on that front foot again. The judges

:15:40.:15:46.

obviously like that back foot. That is not too bad. Goodbody shot from

:15:47.:15:51.

Hrgovic a few moments ago. Part of a two-man Croatian boxing team which

:15:52.:15:57.

represents progress as he gets through Alberto punches. Parodied by

:15:58.:16:01.

Yoka but some of them were effective. Cracking right hand down

:16:02.:16:07.

the pipe by Yoka and Hrgovic counters. The Croatian team

:16:08.:16:12.

represents progress, they didn't have any representatives in London.

:16:13.:16:17.

Hrgovic made it through virtue of his ranking in season five and here

:16:18.:16:24.

he is in the semifinal of the superheavyweight. And he is having

:16:25.:16:30.

success with that right hand again. Stiff straight punches. Yoka firing

:16:31.:16:33.

back with shots of his own. Standing his ground. Yoka is keeping his

:16:34.:16:39.

guard are pretty high but they are getting through, these right hands.

:16:40.:16:44.

The Croatian is holding his feet, he is a bit slow on his feet, but that

:16:45.:16:49.

the same time, he has a good laid-back movement, he lays back and

:16:50.:16:53.

makes his opponent miss. Fairly low guard, inviting a shot from the

:16:54.:16:58.

Frenchman but at this stage, again, the Croatian is boxing better for

:16:59.:17:03.

me. Good right hand again from Hrgovic. Yoka breathing through a

:17:04.:17:08.

slightly open-mouthed as he takes another good right hand and his

:17:09.:17:11.

attempted counter was rather ponderous. Good right hand from the

:17:12.:17:16.

man in red. If the name Filip Hrgovic starts familiar per boxing

:17:17.:17:20.

fans, as he lands another good right hand and Yoka styles to look weary

:17:21.:17:23.

as it takes more punches between his high held gloves... Good portion of

:17:24.:17:29.

the round for Hrgovic. The right hand wasn't too far away. Yoka comes

:17:30.:17:35.

back with an eye-catching jab. And a cracking right hand right on the

:17:36.:17:39.

bell. If the name Hrgovic sounds familiar in a boxing sense and you

:17:40.:17:43.

don't follow Olympic style boxing, he is the man who prevented the much

:17:44.:17:48.

mooted contest between David Hay and Tyson Fury because in David Hay's

:17:49.:17:55.

last spa, the man in blue cut his I write open to prevent that contest

:17:56.:17:56.

taking place. Hrgovic does the better work going

:17:57.:18:05.

forward. Yoka had his moments again. But the aggression should be

:18:06.:18:08.

favouring Hrgovic. He only gets one score. He's very, very unlucky here,

:18:09.:18:13.

this man in blue. Again, I'd probably disagreed with nine or ten

:18:14.:18:18.

contests here. We're on our 262, that's not too bad from that number

:18:19.:18:21.

of contests. But I don't agree with the scores here. I think the man in

:18:22.:18:23.

blue should be winning this fight. Into the third and final round we go

:18:24.:18:40.

then. The man in blue, Filip Hrgovic of Croatia has it all square for

:18:41.:18:45.

judge B, having taken a share of that round, of the second round. But

:18:46.:18:51.

he's trailing by 20-18 for judges A and C. Of course, more than any

:18:52.:18:55.

other weight class, the superheavyweight division, these

:18:56.:19:00.

bouts can be brought about, the conclusion can be brought about by

:19:01.:19:05.

one single shot. Concentration is vital for both, but particularly for

:19:06.:19:09.

Yoka. Because Hrgovic will, no doubt, be aware, his corner may have

:19:10.:19:13.

been informed that he's trailing in this contest, despite boxing very

:19:14.:19:16.

well indeed throughout rounds one and two. Good left hand to the body

:19:17.:19:26.

from Yoka. I'm at a loss what this Croatian can do to improve the

:19:27.:19:30.

situation for himself. He's boxing well on the front foot. Maybe,

:19:31.:19:34.

making his opponent miss here and there. He's got fairly slow feet.

:19:35.:19:38.

But he's doing very well in my opinion. Maybe he's got to keep that

:19:39.:19:43.

guard up higher for when Yoka does throw the long, straight shots.

:19:44.:19:46.

Yoka, to his credit, he's blocking a lot of these on the gloves. But the

:19:47.:19:50.

volume of work is coming from the man in blue. He's really got to go

:19:51.:19:55.

for it. He probably needs to knock him out now. And down goes Yoka.

:19:56.:19:59.

He's damaged his ankle. How significant is this going to be? We

:20:00.:20:03.

haven't seen much evidence during the course of this tournament, he

:20:04.:20:09.

relies on his legs, as one of his primary assets. Wonderful mover and

:20:10.:20:12.

he's complaining that he's gone over on his right ankle. Was there a

:20:13.:20:20.

shot? No, he just shtumbles. So he just adjusted his feet to move out

:20:21.:20:24.

of the way of a punch and gone over on his ankle. Done that a couple of

:20:25.:20:31.

times, Ron! It's like red rag to a bull now for Hrgovic. He's really

:20:32.:20:35.

going for it. That's spurred him on a bit, the man in blue. In the

:20:36.:20:41.

professional ranks Michael Grant, the towering heavyweight suffered a

:20:42.:20:49.

similar fate against big time McCline. He damaged knee ligaments

:20:50.:20:57.

while tripping to the canvas. To impair a boxer in that regard is

:20:58.:21:01.

going to make this a very difficult 55 seconds to negotiate. Yoka a

:21:02.:21:06.

fleet footed mover at his best, even though we haven't seen much evidence

:21:07.:21:10.

of it during Rio 2016. Is he going to be reduced to a stationary target

:21:11.:21:14.

for a heavy hitter like Filip Hrgovic. I don't think it will be

:21:15.:21:20.

that much of a problem. He's not been fleet footed in this contest.

:21:21.:21:24.

Or in the tournament. But it's there if he needs. It It may affect him

:21:25.:21:32.

now. This is a fairly poor display here. Hrgovic is doing the better

:21:33.:21:41.

work on the front foot. Still looking to find that knockout punch,

:21:42.:21:46.

Hrgovic. Yoka giving impressions of being weary, but his boxing stance

:21:47.:21:49.

remains solid. He feels that he's seen this one out now. Tony Yoka

:21:50.:21:59.

given the status of the score card coming into the third and final

:22:00.:22:02.

round, Tony Yoka will be going through to contest the Olympic Gold

:22:03.:22:07.

Medal bout here. Because Croatia's Filip Hrgovic wasn't able to produce

:22:08.:22:13.

the 10-8 round he needed to get things back to even Stephens for

:22:14.:22:19.

judges A and C. It will be Yoka, the tournament's number one seed and

:22:20.:22:22.

reigning World Championship Gold Medallist who will be going through

:22:23.:22:25.

to contest the Gold Medal bout here at Rio 2016, but how badly impaired

:22:26.:22:29.

will he be by going over on that ankle? You've seen the way he tried

:22:30.:22:34.

to adjust his feet to get out of the way of a punch and he's gone over on

:22:35.:22:38.

his ankle. This could really affect him in the final. He will have to

:22:39.:22:40.

have it strapped certainly. It's like a spran. That boot will be

:22:41.:22:44.

holding it together. I've had the same problem in a couple of

:22:45.:22:49.

contests. Your boot, when you take it off, that's when the swelling

:22:50.:22:51.

starts. He will have a few problems there. He's very lucky, in my

:22:52.:23:02.

opinion. Ladies and gentleman, the winner by split decision... In the

:23:03.:23:16.

red corner, Tony Yoka. So Tony Yoka the reigning World Championship Gold

:23:17.:23:20.

Medallist goes through to contest Olympic gold. He's already won

:23:21.:23:25.

France's first ever medal in this weight division. What colour will it

:23:26.:23:29.

be now? It's at least silver as he goes through to the final. Filip

:23:30.:23:33.

Hrgovic, Croatia's first ever medallist in the boxing ring,

:23:34.:23:37.

terrific performance by him. He comes out with a bronze medal having

:23:38.:23:41.

been defeated by his familiar rival here. Richie thought that was

:23:42.:23:50.

surprising, what due make of that? For me, I always say it's best to

:23:51.:23:54.

knock out your opponents so you don't leave it down to the judges. I

:23:55.:24:01.

saw phenomenal boxing combination of punches and power from the Croatian.

:24:02.:24:04.

The Frenchman was trying to counterpunch. For me, the Croatian

:24:05.:24:08.

was more busy. You'd have given it to him? If I was a judge, I would

:24:09.:24:12.

have looked at it and given it to the Croatian. It's going to be the

:24:13.:24:16.

Frenchman who's gone through shot I think, who goes into the final on

:24:17.:24:21.

Sunday afternoon, the very last contest of the 275 here over the

:24:22.:24:25.

course of the last fortnight. The key thing is will he have a British

:24:26.:24:29.

opponent on Sunday afternoon? Four years of hard work have brought Joe

:24:30.:24:36.

Joyce to this point. And again. Other side. And again.

:24:37.:24:51.

Touch. And again. Move. Step. Good. And again. Up. And again. A nice

:24:52.:25:16.

shot of Anthony saying hard luck to the Croatian defeated in the first

:25:17.:25:19.

semifinal. As Joe comes into the ring, you know his opponent pretty

:25:20.:25:27.

well. Tell us. The guy he's boxing now, who is his opponent now that

:25:28.:25:34.

he's boxing? He's fighting the kaz ack that you fought. Oh, Mr Dychko.

:25:35.:25:40.

Unbelievable jab. Great experience because he was in 2012 as well. Now

:25:41.:25:45.

in 2016, he's filled out a bit more. He was younger there. It will be

:25:46.:25:48.

interesting to see the development that the four years of training his

:25:49.:25:56.

given his opponent. Here he comes all 6'9" of him. Will Joe be excited

:25:57.:26:01.

by the prospect or nervous? You can't help but be nervous. These

:26:02.:26:05.

guys have had tough draws from the get go. The Great British team have

:26:06.:26:09.

been with world champions and British champions. There will be

:26:10.:26:12.

nerve US. Dychko is a medallist already. Joe's had many rounds with

:26:13.:26:18.

him. Joe handles me in sparring very well. I've beaten Dychko. I hope

:26:19.:26:23.

he's got the right mind set because everything below the neck down is

:26:24.:26:27.

physically capable. As long as his mind is right, it should be a good

:26:28.:26:30.

night for him. Here we go with the second semifinal of the men's

:26:31.:26:36.

superheavyweight at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with Richie

:26:37.:26:42.

and Ron. Plenty of British support in

:26:43.:26:50.

attendance for Joe Joyce. The boxer in the blue corner, the boxer from

:26:51.:26:53.

Kazakhstan, Ivan Dychko. Head up, no holding. Joe Joyce is

:26:54.:27:15.

6'6" but he's looking up at Ivan Dychko, who is 6'9". We're under way

:27:16.:27:28.

in the 91 kilogram plus superheavyweight semifinal, being

:27:29.:27:30.

contested between boxers from Great Britain and Kazakhstan. The taller

:27:31.:27:34.

boxer, the man in blue, upon his toes, operating on the perimeter of

:27:35.:27:37.

the ring and making a very good start with straight shots is Ivan

:27:38.:27:44.

Dychko, the reigning Olympic bronze medallist, a former World

:27:45.:27:46.

Championship Silver Medallist. He won his first in 2013, took that

:27:47.:27:51.

silver. Then he's also took silver at the back end of last year

:27:52.:27:56.

incredibly experienced the 26-year-old. His opponent is Joe

:27:57.:28:01.

Joyce, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, reigning European

:28:02.:28:05.

Games champion and comes in as World Championship bronze medallist from

:28:06.:28:10.

Doha last year. He's got to be sensible pressure from Joe Joyce.

:28:11.:28:19.

He's got to force the pace here. His opponent, in the last bout, he boxed

:28:20.:28:23.

similar, light on his feet. But then he slows down and then he tired in

:28:24.:28:28.

that contest. Important that Joyce sets the pace, tries to cut off the

:28:29.:28:33.

ring space a little bit better and throw the punches, threes and fours.

:28:34.:28:37.

Tire this man out. If he tires him out, you will see him hold on the

:28:38.:28:41.

inside. Joe has got to set the pace and work rate here. That is one of

:28:42.:28:46.

Joe Joyce's strong suits. He keeps on coming. Can he cut off the ring

:28:47.:28:52.

against this fleet footed boxer who likes to glide around the perimeter

:28:53.:28:56.

and work at his own pace poking out that long jab. He's filled out

:28:57.:28:59.

considerably in the previous four years, when he picked up that

:29:00.:29:05.

Olympic bronze, losing to Anthony Joshua at the semifinal stage. Joe

:29:06.:29:11.

Joyce, who can set such a high work rate, but can he pin this man down?

:29:12.:29:15.

As Richie pointed out, he faded alarmingly in the quarter final

:29:16.:29:20.

victory over the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist. Joe Joyce

:29:21.:29:23.

following him around the ring at the moment. Can't cut off the avenues of

:29:24.:29:26.

escape that Dychko is managing to find. He has to hurt his opponent

:29:27.:29:33.

down stairs. You have to target the body with a good mover. If Joe Joyce

:29:34.:29:39.

can get close enough with his straight right, certainly, then the

:29:40.:29:43.

double jab and the right upper cut down stairs to slow this fellow

:29:44.:29:47.

down. He will slow down if he's hurt down stairs. That's what Joe Joyce

:29:48.:29:51.

has got to do. This is predictable, the first round. I thought it would

:29:52.:29:55.

be like this. It's how fast you can slow this guy down with a heavy,

:29:56.:29:59.

fast work rate and pace. Joe Joyce managing to get through with a

:30:00.:30:02.

couple of body shots. Now he's getting closer. He landed the right

:30:03.:30:06.

jab and followed that with a right cross over the top. Joe Joyce a

:30:07.:30:13.

clubbing puncher. If he can get into range and target that long range,

:30:14.:30:17.

look at the manner in which Dychko dropped his right arm. That's a lot

:30:18.:30:22.

of poundage, testing the strength of the boxing ring there. They fall to

:30:23.:30:28.

the canvas. Nobody appears to be injured. The contest

:30:29.:30:33.

resumesment -- resumes. Joe Joyce getting closer, not interested in

:30:34.:30:36.

the touch of gloves with Ivan Dychko to conclude the first round. Joe

:30:37.:30:39.

Joyce is here on a mission, and it's to get to the Gold Medal bout. Joe,

:30:40.:30:45.

good boy. What you've got to do is close the gap and don't give him

:30:46.:30:56.

room. You need to close, see. Coach Lee pleased in that corner saying

:30:57.:30:59.

he's beginning to blow. The strategy clear. Dychko sweeps the opening

:31:00.:31:08.

round across the board. They would have expected him to go down. He's

:31:09.:31:12.

got to have a better second round and slow the feet down of Dychko.

:31:13.:31:16.

That will be the plan now. He's going to throw a few more shots, Joe

:31:17.:31:20.

Joyce, cut the ring space off better but get to his man certainly. This

:31:21.:31:22.

is the crucial round, round two. We're into the second round of this

:31:23.:31:42.

superheavyweight semifinal. Tony Yoka the reigning World Championship

:31:43.:31:45.

Gold Medallist is waiting in the final. He's beaten most of these

:31:46.:31:49.

men, most recently in the World Championships. Joyce onto the front

:31:50.:31:53.

foot and closing the gap on his man, as he walks him down. Straight away

:31:54.:31:58.

Joe Joyce got him with three, four punches down stairs then. He's held

:31:59.:32:01.

his feet. He will try and grab Dychko. We know what he's about.

:32:02.:32:09.

He's starting to tire now. Immediately, that's a good right

:32:10.:32:12.

hand from Dychko as he changes direction. Joyce is beginning to get

:32:13.:32:16.

closer. Can he begin to make that investment in body shots that will

:32:17.:32:19.

pay dividends as the contest progresses? It's that right upper

:32:20.:32:24.

cut, measured with the jab. There it was, right upper cut to the body.

:32:25.:32:28.

That slows the man down. That's better work, Joe Joyce. Dychko just

:32:29.:32:35.

moments ago, began breathing through an open mouth, gulping oxygen. Joyce

:32:36.:32:41.

looking to unload heavy artillery to the long, lean body of the man in

:32:42.:32:45.

blue. Can he land that punch out. Good right hand over the top, a

:32:46.:32:50.

grimmace from Dychko. The man in blue is hurt. Dychko fighting back.

:32:51.:32:54.

Buff I think he's suffering here. This is where he switches the

:32:55.:32:58.

attack. He's got to switch down stairs with the body shots Joe

:32:59.:33:02.

Joyce. Better. Good left down stairs. Better work from Joyce.

:33:03.:33:08.

Clubbing punches, slamming into the rib cage of Dychko. Anthony Joshua

:33:09.:33:15.

was telling us earlier that when Joyce get you in that position, look

:33:16.:33:19.

at the manner in which he can turn and sink the hooks just above the

:33:20.:33:22.

ring belt. Any veteran will tell you that the pain of a body shot is

:33:23.:33:26.

something that stays with you. It may not put you on the floor but it

:33:27.:33:31.

will help to rapidly deplete the energy and reduce the movement in

:33:32.:33:35.

the legs. One minute ago in the second round, Joe Joyce getting.

:33:36.:33:44.

Dychko flat-footed, struggling to get on his toes. Keep working,

:33:45.:33:46.

throws those threes and fours downstairs. Got to find the room and

:33:47.:33:49.

space on the inside. This man is going to hold him, but that is

:33:50.:33:54.

better. More dominant, Joe Joyce, on the front foot. The movement of Ivan

:33:55.:34:00.

Dychko visibly slowing with every passing moment. The body shot is

:34:01.:34:04.

beginning to reap dividends for big Joe Joyce as he goes looking for his

:34:05.:34:10.

man once again. Dychko, his movement slowing to that of a glacier, as Joe

:34:11.:34:15.

Joyce continues to move him down and unload point -- punches. He needed a

:34:16.:34:25.

better round, we said it and he has had it, Joe Joyce, he has slowed his

:34:26.:34:29.

man down but he has got to punch more on the inside. This Kazakis

:34:30.:34:40.

getting desperate in the holding. BELL

:34:41.:34:42.

And Joe Joyce fixes his man with a baleful stare as they make their way

:34:43.:34:47.

back to the corners. JOHN INVERDALE: Anthony Joshua is

:34:48.:34:52.

throwing every punch with Joe Joyce in the fight, what you make of the

:34:53.:34:56.

situation and how will he make the final round? Just how he did in that

:34:57.:35:00.

round, he is putting pressure on Dychko, giving him no room to throw

:35:01.:35:04.

the jab. Joe is working him to the body and slowing him down and

:35:05.:35:08.

causing him all sorts of problems. Dychko is a rangy fighter, give the

:35:09.:35:13.

range and he will jab your head. When Joe is out of range, he's

:35:14.:35:17.

throwing the right hand. He is up and should be leading and I want him

:35:18.:35:21.

to continue the same thing he has done in the second round and he will

:35:22.:35:25.

slow him right down in the third. Here we go with the moment of truth,

:35:26.:35:27.

the third and final round. RONALD MCINTOSH: So Joe Joyce has

:35:28.:35:39.

responded brilliantly to sweep the second round unanimously and now he

:35:40.:35:43.

comes out like a freight train on a mission, walking down his man and

:35:44.:35:47.

trying to target both head and body of Ivan Dychko in his pursuit of a

:35:48.:35:53.

place in the gold-medal bout. Dychko is suffering. It is going to be a

:35:54.:35:57.

torrid three minutes for Dychko, he is on his feet, he has rallied a

:35:58.:36:02.

little bit but he keeps walking on two. Here comes Joe Joyce again. He

:36:03.:36:06.

is wilting down to the canvas, he can barely hold his boxing stance.

:36:07.:36:13.

He has cut beneath his right eye as problems begin to mount up. Joe

:36:14.:36:18.

Joyce swinging for the fences with a big overhand right. There is a

:36:19.:36:26.

saying in GB, "Set about them, Joe." That is what he has got to do, keep

:36:27.:36:31.

going forward, switching the attack from body to head. He is doing the

:36:32.:36:36.

right thing but he has to leave no doubt in the judges' mines, he has

:36:37.:36:42.

to work here. Dychko, the two-time Asian continental champion, looking

:36:43.:36:46.

to mad rally. He is a proud individual but that left hand to the

:36:47.:36:51.

body sickening him. The referee intimating it may have been low.

:36:52.:36:55.

Dychko with a negative response in terms of his body language. Terrific

:36:56.:37:00.

work to the body again from Joyce. Dychko being given a real working

:37:01.:37:04.

over as Joyce continues to find a home for his punches. He has

:37:05.:37:10.

exhausted Dychko. He is trying to get up on his toes but the body

:37:11.:37:14.

shots are hurting him. Joyce has to keep it going, has to switch the

:37:15.:37:20.

attack. Body to head and then back downstairs. Ivan Dychko seemingly

:37:21.:37:23.

running on fumes, fighting on instinct but still standing his

:37:24.:37:27.

ground and punching out shots that will keep Joe Joyce at bay. Joe

:37:28.:37:32.

Joyce winding up that right hand before landing it to the body.

:37:33.:37:37.

Lovely shots again by Joyce. Got to find a bit of relaxation to get the

:37:38.:37:41.

faster punches home. He is exhausted, is Dychko. But still he

:37:42.:37:47.

stands. Jolting left hand drive the man backwards from Joyce. Dychko,

:37:48.:37:53.

ready to fall after being chopped down to the body like a tall tree.

:37:54.:37:58.

Joyce on the cusp perhaps of stopping his man. Can he produce a

:37:59.:38:01.

sustained final assault that would take it out of the hands of the

:38:02.:38:06.

judges? Marching his man backwards with a heavy are sold. Good right

:38:07.:38:11.

hand to the body. Still Dychko stands. It has been a great last 30

:38:12.:38:17.

seconds the Joe Joyce but he has to finish the contest strong. He has to

:38:18.:38:20.

show the judges that he is there at the end punching and looks the one

:38:21.:38:26.

in control. Dychko trying to fight back but Joe Joyce is unrelenting in

:38:27.:38:30.

his forward march. Can he find a couple of quality shots?

:38:31.:38:36.

BELL Terrific performance from Joe Joyce.

:38:37.:38:40.

He raises his arms immediately and their celebration in the red corner

:38:41.:38:44.

because Great Britain's Joe Joyce, who conceded the opening round

:38:45.:38:48.

unanimously, responded brilliantly around number two to take that ran

:38:49.:38:52.

from all three judges and then sustain his are sold round number

:38:53.:38:58.

three and now surely, Great Britain's Joe Joyce will go through

:38:59.:39:03.

to the Olympic gold-medal bout in the competition and look to emulate

:39:04.:39:06.

the accomplishment of Anthony Joshua and Audley Harrison, who occupied

:39:07.:39:13.

top spot on the Seve superheavyweight podium. Tremendous

:39:14.:39:15.

left hook that went in and the body language at the end of the contest,

:39:16.:39:20.

it was Joyce on the front foot, it was better from him. He has got it

:39:21.:39:26.

for me, he is going through, got to be. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner

:39:27.:39:37.

by unanimous decision... In the red corner... Joe Joyce! Great Britain's

:39:38.:39:47.

Joe Joyce is through to the gold-medal bout in the

:39:48.:39:51.

superheavyweight division. A terrific come from behind victory on

:39:52.:39:56.

the scorecards over the reigning two-time world championship

:39:57.:39:59.

silver-medallist Ivan Dychko. He started slowly, he had trouble with

:40:00.:40:03.

movement in the opening round but he would not be denied. He continued

:40:04.:40:07.

his forward march, continued to target the body and he is through to

:40:08.:40:11.

contest Olympic gold in the superheavyweight division.

:40:12.:40:20.

A cameo of Caballero from Joe Joyce -- capoeira.

:40:21.:40:32.

JOHN INVERDALE: Virtual Jewish reception from the crowd for Joe

:40:33.:40:36.

Joyce's balletic choreography in the ring -- a tumultuous reception. I am

:40:37.:40:45.

so happy for him, he has come from earls filled, grassroots, got a

:40:46.:40:49.

tough draw and has guaranteed himself a place in the final, I am

:40:50.:40:55.

so happy for him -- from Earlsfield. He lost the first round, any seeds

:40:56.:41:00.

of doubt in your mind? Maybe he is a fighter that gives the warm up, he

:41:01.:41:03.

is like a steam train and got the engine going and from there on, he

:41:04.:41:08.

was flying and all he needs to do in the second and third round is do

:41:09.:41:11.

what he did in the second, keep the pressure on. I could see he was

:41:12.:41:15.

slowly breaking down Ivan Dychko and that is how he got a decision. You

:41:16.:41:24.

got involved in that, you were throwing and evading every punch. It

:41:25.:41:28.

is easy from the outside, I was screaming do this and do that, but

:41:29.:41:33.

inside, it is a totally different ball game. So all I wanted to do was

:41:34.:41:37.

send him positive energy. I just wanted him to win, I wanted him to

:41:38.:41:41.

throw the right, the left, every punch in the book to get a decision

:41:42.:41:46.

but he made it happen. This is Joe Joyce's moment. Ukip screaming,

:41:47.:41:50.

"Keep going forward." You can't leave any doubt in the judges' minds

:41:51.:41:59.

-- Ukip screaming. You can't, you saw Dychko jabbing at the start but

:42:00.:42:03.

as the rounds went on, he kept going and we will call him Steam Train

:42:04.:42:10.

Joe. We Will Try And Talk To Him But We Are A Bit Down The Pecking Order.

:42:11.:42:17.

He Is In The Next-door Pen To Us. It Is So Loud In Here At The Moment. I

:42:18.:42:22.

Don't Think We Have Actually Got Time To Hear From Him Now But I'm

:42:23.:42:27.

Sure the interview we record with him, you will see later tonight.

:42:28.:42:31.

Bolding macro we we will definitely here. His final

:42:32.:42:45.

will be on Sunday. In the last 40 minutes, a man who broke his neck

:42:46.:42:48.

and retired from riding and had a hip replacement in 2011 has become

:42:49.:42:50.

Britain's first ever individual snow jumping champion -- show-jumping.

:42:51.:42:55.

Nick Skelton is a phenomenon. He has come back from so much, he was

:42:56.:43:02.

desperate to win an individual medal. He set a time that no one can

:43:03.:43:06.

be done with the 13-year-old stallion Big Star, he ensured that

:43:07.:43:11.

at the 23rd time at the Olympics, this was played.

:43:12.:43:18.

Is CLARE BALDING: a hugely emotional moment and afterwards, he spoke to

:43:19.:44:02.

Lee McKenzie. The individual goal, this is

:44:03.:44:05.

something you have worked so hard one dreamt of, how does it feel to

:44:06.:44:09.

have achieved it? It is unbelievable. I am speechless, for

:44:10.:44:16.

once. The horse was amazing today. He has been really unlucky the last

:44:17.:44:20.

few days but I did it the other way around in London, and it didn't pay

:44:21.:44:23.

off, so probably just as has been done for him today and he really

:44:24.:44:27.

deserves it. He has been incredible and it has been a hard, hard road,

:44:28.:44:33.

because he hasn't been sound at and the last competition he won was in

:44:34.:44:39.

Aachen, the Grand Prix in 2013, so today was a good day to win.

:44:40.:44:44.

Everybody has worked at getting the horse back on the road and it is

:44:45.:44:48.

amazing. You almost have parallel lines, you have both had your

:44:49.:44:52.

injuries. You retired, came back from that neck injury. There must

:44:53.:44:55.

the dark days when you wondered whether the horse would make it to

:44:56.:45:00.

another Olympics. -- there must have been. How hard has it been for both

:45:01.:45:04.

of you? It has been tough, especially the last three years,

:45:05.:45:07.

really, because I knew if we get it right, he is well capable of doing

:45:08.:45:13.

it. He's probably one of the best horses... Definitely the best horse

:45:14.:45:18.

I have ever seen, it is a big statement, but he is an incredible

:45:19.:45:22.

horse. He knows exactly what is going on, he knows when it is really

:45:23.:45:26.

important and you can ride him and put pressure on him and he takes it,

:45:27.:45:31.

you know? He is amazing. You really set the standard today, it was

:45:32.:45:34.

crucial to get out of the blocks early in the jump off and put the

:45:35.:45:38.

pressure is on the others? To be honest, I prefer to go first. He is

:45:39.:45:44.

a fast horse. I went quick enough but I didn't go stupid and the

:45:45.:45:47.

course worked great for me. The last macro term, he locked up on me --

:45:48.:45:55.

the last term. But if I had a good flight for that one, it would have

:45:56.:45:59.

been really tight. It went the right way and it was good. We know you

:46:00.:46:05.

have no been 27 Olympic Games. Please tell us there is going to be

:46:06.:46:11.

an eighth Olympic Games! I think so. I think when he retires, I think I

:46:12.:46:17.

will stop as well. I don't think he will make another one, he will be 17

:46:18.:46:22.

then and I will be too old. Well, enjoy every minute, thank you so

:46:23.:46:24.

much. Thank you. CLARE BALDING: when Nick

:46:25.:46:32.

says too old, he is 58, the oldest winner since Joshua Millner in 1968.

:46:33.:46:38.

But we could have more first timers as it were at an Olympics tonight

:46:39.:46:42.

because for the very first time, GREAT BRITAIN's women hockey players

:46:43.:46:45.

are into the gold medal match, we will be showing it live on BBC One,

:46:46.:46:52.

uninterrupted and I have three members of the hockey team alongside

:46:53.:46:57.

me to discuss the chances of the women against the Netherlands

:46:58.:47:01.

tonight. Dan shingles, Dan Fox and David Ames. Dan, there were various

:47:02.:47:04.

injuries in the semifinals, have you seen the women and how are they? We

:47:05.:47:10.

saw them at breakfast and I think they had a team meeting. The mood is

:47:11.:47:14.

great, they seem to be quite relaxed, couple of injuries but we

:47:15.:47:18.

have had assurances they have been dealt with and the girls are really

:47:19.:47:19.

ready to go. The women didn't qualify, didn't get

:47:20.:47:27.

out of the group stages, then a bronze medal and now this Gold Medal

:47:28.:47:30.

match. What do you put the rise down to? They have a brilliant team

:47:31.:47:34.

spirit. We train with them almost every day. It's good to see how

:47:35.:47:37.

they've developed that spirit as a side. You saw in the semifinal

:47:38.:47:42.

against New Zealand, they got a few knocks, a few dumps and bruises, but

:47:43.:47:45.

nothing held them back. They've been brilliant. David, my arm is not that

:47:46.:47:51.

long - the conditions, that blue pitch is exactly the same as you've

:47:52.:47:54.

been training on, has that helped? It's been massive. The girls have

:47:55.:48:00.

used it as much as they could over the last few months and years.

:48:01.:48:04.

They've done brilliantly. Superb journey for those girls. Hopefully

:48:05.:48:07.

they can do the business tonight. The heat shouldn't be a factor,

:48:08.:48:11.

should it, because it's an evening match? No, come 5pm, the sun goes

:48:12.:48:16.

down and it gets quite cool, perfect conditions for our girls. They play

:48:17.:48:20.

in conditions which have been 30 degrees plus. Tonight will be no

:48:21.:48:23.

different in terms of what they played in the semifinals as well.

:48:24.:48:27.

They'll have no complaints about being quite cool. A few questions

:48:28.:48:32.

from our viewers. Steve says, "Why is there water on the pitch? It's

:48:33.:48:39.

water-based AstroTurf. It used to be sand. Now technology moving forward,

:48:40.:48:45.

it's a water-based pitch. Which makes the game a bit quicker. It's

:48:46.:48:48.

been shown over the last few weeks how quick the game is. The ball

:48:49.:48:53.

skids on the surface of the water? Does it stop you getting burnt so

:48:54.:48:56.

much if you fall? No, you can still get burnt. You see some slide

:48:57.:49:02.

tackles, some diving deflections, yeah, no, I suppose it's probably

:49:03.:49:06.

easier than sand based when you were ripped to shreds. We're thankful

:49:07.:49:11.

that it's water based to keep us a wee bit less burnt. Now back to Dan.

:49:12.:49:18.

Let me give you this, Rebecca says, shots from outside the D that go

:49:19.:49:21.

into the net without deflections, why don't they count as goals?

:49:22.:49:25.

That's quite a good question. A lot of people see the ball fly into the

:49:26.:49:29.

net from all angles and get excited and nothing comes of it. The ball

:49:30.:49:31.

has to be touched within the attacking D by one of the attacking

:49:32.:49:35.

team. That can come from a long ball that's deflected in or come from a

:49:36.:49:40.

shot, but effectively a goal can't be scored further away that the top

:49:41.:49:44.

of the D. That's your answer. How big a moment is this for British

:49:45.:49:49.

hockey? This is probably the biggest moment that we've ever had. The men

:49:50.:49:54.

won in 1988, Olympic Gold Medal. This is being shown prime time on

:49:55.:49:57.

BBC, moving the news for it! It's fantastic. We're lucky to be here

:49:58.:50:01.

and watch it in person. The girls will do everyone proud. They're a

:50:02.:50:04.

great team with a brilliant tournament, seven winds from seven.

:50:05.:50:08.

Looking forward to it -- wins. Are you feeling relaxed and confident or

:50:09.:50:12.

nervous? There will be some nerves. We know the girls really well. We

:50:13.:50:16.

know how much hard work they've put into it. Being athletes yourselves

:50:17.:50:20.

you know they're fully prepared. We all have confidence that they've

:50:21.:50:22.

gone through everything they need to be doing. They'll be ready. We're

:50:23.:50:26.

raring to support them along. It's going to be a sensational match.

:50:27.:50:29.

When Britain last won a Gold Medal in hockey it was the men's team back

:50:30.:50:35.

in 1988, Sean Curly was a star, scoring a hat-trick in the semifinal

:50:36.:50:40.

that. Was 6am on a Saturday morning against West Germany. This is 9pm on

:50:41.:50:43.

a Friday evening. It's going to be huge. I'm quite excited as you can

:50:44.:50:50.

tell! Equally excite issed Anthony Joshua. They caught up with Joe

:50:51.:50:56.

Joyce after his win. ? Talk us through it. Yeah, he was running for

:50:57.:51:03.

the first round, keeping me on the end of his jab. Lots of foot work

:51:04.:51:07.

movement and agility. He couldn't keep up with that for the three

:51:08.:51:10.

rounds much I started closing him down. Cut the ring off and landed

:51:11.:51:14.

some shots, especially the second and third round. Started working.

:51:15.:51:23.

Due know that you were one down at the end of the first round? I

:51:24.:51:26.

suspected something because of the way Lee was talking to me in the

:51:27.:51:30.

corner. I thought oh, right, I'd better pick it up and land some

:51:31.:51:34.

shots and win the bout. Here's an assessment, what did you think?

:51:35.:51:38.

Unbelievable. Dychko is tall. He wanted to work the jab and keep Joe

:51:39.:51:42.

at range. Joe warmed up in the first round. It's a mental game as well as

:51:43.:51:46.

physical. He figured him out. Second round he closed the gap down.

:51:47.:51:49.

Working him to the body, hurting him. That takes your breath away.

:51:50.:51:53.

Working him to the body, Dychko starts slowing down. He can't throw

:51:54.:51:56.

the jab like in the first round. That's when you ask me, what does

:51:57.:52:01.

Joe need to do to secure the fight, exactly the same as the second

:52:02.:52:05.

round, close the distance, put more pressure and Dychko will soon fade.

:52:06.:52:08.

That's what he done. I'm really happy for him, man. You're in the

:52:09.:52:13.

Olympic final. Yeah. One step closer to the gold. Don't worry about the

:52:14.:52:17.

gold. Just keep on winning. Yeah, yeah, just keep on winning, keep it

:52:18.:52:23.

simple. I'm happy for him. I seen Joe from grass-roots, you know, come

:52:24.:52:26.

up had a tough draw like the rest of the boys and he's here in Rio

:52:27.:52:33.

handling business. Staying hungry, staying humble. Many

:52:34.:52:38.

congratulations. See you on Sunday. A gold or silver awaits Joe Joyce on

:52:39.:52:44.

Sunday. The woman standing alongside me knows what that is like. Jade

:52:45.:52:50.

Jones last night retained her taekwondo title. This is how she did

:52:51.:52:51.

it. COMMENTATOR: Defending her Olympic

:52:52.:53:10.

title Jade Jones of Great Britain. The Spanish fighter.

:53:11.:53:14.

She takes the head shot and plants another. There is head shot that

:53:15.:53:26.

puts Gomez back in this one. A picture perfect shot there. Gomez

:53:27.:53:33.

reeling and rocking. This, a real battle. Time for Gomes to try and do

:53:34.:53:40.

something. Ten seconds left. Jones takes

:53:41.:53:47.

another. Gomez on the back foot. Can she do it one more time? The Welsh

:53:48.:53:52.

wonder strikes gold again, to the delight of the British fans and the

:53:53.:53:59.

Brazilian crowd. Wonderful performance, absolute perfection.

:54:00.:54:05.

Jade Jones becomes the two-times Olympic champion.

:54:06.:54:14.

In London she was the youngest British Olympic champion. She's now

:54:15.:54:19.

the youngest British athlete ever to defend successfully defend an

:54:20.:54:22.

Olympic title. Many congratulations. Do you remember much about anything

:54:23.:54:26.

that happened last night? It's always such a blur. I just remember

:54:27.:54:30.

I kept thinking, one fight at a time. You know, like seeing my

:54:31.:54:34.

family, when I walked out and it just gave me such a boost. I was

:54:35.:54:38.

like, you know, I never want to lose in front of my family. They've

:54:39.:54:41.

supported me so much. I just want to do it for them. Your grandfather

:54:42.:54:45.

introduced you to the sport, was he here? Yeah my granddad and my Nana

:54:46.:54:50.

have drove me all over the country and took me everywhere. I owe so

:54:51.:54:54.

much to them. You were very aggressive immediately in that Gold

:54:55.:54:57.

Medal match. You had to be, didn't you? Yeah, with Gomez the Spanish

:54:58.:55:04.

girl, if I don't pressure her, she'll pressure me. You have to get

:55:05.:55:09.

on her from the start. I went 6-0 up at the start. In the second round I

:55:10.:55:14.

took too much pressure and she started come bag being. The coach --

:55:15.:55:20.

coming back. The coach was like, "You've got one round." I chucked

:55:21.:55:24.

everything I had and kept on her. The next minute, Olympic champion.

:55:25.:55:28.

How do you stay calm because you said beforehand how much more

:55:29.:55:31.

difficult it is being the defending champion. How have you managed your

:55:32.:55:36.

nerves? I think like try to put things into perspective. I know if

:55:37.:55:40.

them girls that I'm fighting come to the taekwondo gym where I train, I

:55:41.:55:44.

know I'd beat them up. It's like, just because I'm in the Olympics,

:55:45.:55:49.

like, not to panic and you know, big them up. Yeah just imagine myself in

:55:50.:55:53.

the gym sparring them. I know I'm better than them. I pretend right,

:55:54.:55:58.

let's go, we're in the gym. It seems to work. You didn't really let

:55:59.:56:01.

yourself go until you knew you'd won. Then you did. You went for it.

:56:02.:56:07.

That was my moment. They don't happen often. You've got to enjoy it

:56:08.:56:14.

when it happens. It's just amazing, yeah. You can't describe the

:56:15.:56:18.

feeling. Four years of training for that one moment, it's so special. I

:56:19.:56:22.

was looking down here because I know hundreds of people gathered at the

:56:23.:56:27.

Mountain Park hotel in Flint to watch you win at 2am. Four years ago

:56:28.:56:31.

the flint pavilion was renamed in your honour. Yeah, no, my home

:56:32.:56:37.

support is just amazing. I couldn't ask for better. I was actually on

:56:38.:56:42.

face time to like the whole pub after the semifinal match, so yeah,

:56:43.:56:45.

it was amazing to see all the atmosphere there and just, you know,

:56:46.:56:49.

how much support they have for me, win or lose, I can feel it's not

:56:50.:56:53.

just if I win, it's if I win or lose. It makes me so much more

:56:54.:56:57.

confident and hungry to win. And apart from your family, who would

:56:58.:57:00.

you say has been the biggest influence and support? It has to be

:57:01.:57:04.

Paul Green, my coach. I don't think people understand how much of an

:57:05.:57:10.

impact he has. He's literally a psychopath trainer. He trains us all

:57:11.:57:14.

the time and constantly training me so hard. He literally puts his life

:57:15.:57:21.

into it. He is a legend. Yeah, I owe it all to him. There could be more

:57:22.:57:27.

to come from the taekwondo. Because your team-mate and housemate, Bianca

:57:28.:57:37.

Walkdon fights tomorrow. She has a chance for gold. She has to be on

:57:38.:57:41.

her game to win. I'm confident she can definitely win. She deserved it

:57:42.:57:46.

more than anyone. He's had two ACLs. She hasn't stopped. She's kept

:57:47.:57:51.

pushing. She's my training partner. We're constantly pushing each other

:57:52.:57:53.

all the time and eating right, sleeping right. We're doing

:57:54.:57:57.

everything we possibly can to win. She deserve it's more than anyone as

:57:58.:58:01.

well. I hope that she wins as well. She got injured just before London

:58:02.:58:04.

and missed out. This is actually her first Olympics. Yeah, it's her first

:58:05.:58:09.

Olympics. It's amazing to be coming to the Olympics together, with your

:58:10.:58:13.

friend, who's your training partner as well. What next for you? You're a

:58:14.:58:18.

double Olympic champion but still so young, presumably there are more

:58:19.:58:21.

Olympics ahead? Yeah, it's amazing to be double Olympic champion

:58:22.:58:25.

already and that just makes me more eager, God, I'm 23 and I can still

:58:26.:58:30.

do more. I think I'm still not the finished product. I can get better.

:58:31.:58:35.

So yeah, definitely I'm going to try and get to Tokyo and go again.

:58:36.:58:41.

Famously when your grandfather introduced you to martial arts, it

:58:42.:58:45.

was because you were a bit a naughty kid. What has it brought you in your

:58:46.:58:50.

life? Getting into taekwondo it channels your emotions and gets you

:58:51.:58:55.

going on the right path really. It gives you a goal in life. If you're

:58:56.:58:59.

a hyperactive kid put your energy into something good. It gives you a

:59:00.:59:04.

meaning in life and taekwondo, without it, I don't know where I'd

:59:05.:59:08.

be. You have been sensational. Many congratulations to Jade Jones and

:59:09.:59:12.

we've got more taekwondo coming up. On BBC Two, when we switch shortly,

:59:13.:59:17.

we will be showing you Lutalo Muhammad in his quarter final.

:59:18.:59:20.

Diving is on right now on the red button. That's Tom Daley in the

:59:21.:59:28.

preliminary round. Boxing, the women's lightweight final. At 9pm,

:59:29.:59:35.

push back time for Great Britain against the Netherlands in the Gold

:59:36.:59:38.

Medal match of the women's hockey, the first time the British women

:59:39.:59:41.

have ever been in the final and it could be a first gold in hockey

:59:42.:59:47.

since 1988, when Sean Curly and his British side beat West Germany. Lots

:59:48.:59:50.

more to come from the Olympics. But my thoughts are very much with Nick

:59:51.:59:56.

Skelton and the whole of his family for his winning the individual Gold

:59:57.:59:58.

Medal, it will mean more than anything he's achieved in his

:59:59.:00:00.

career. He gives

:00:01.:00:05.
