And now, listen to this... Representing Great Britain, Adam

:01:03.:01:12.

Peaty. Nobody is faster than him over 50 metres breaststroke. Wow.

:01:13.:01:20.

Adam Peaty wins the gold medal in the breaststroke. Absolutely

:01:21.:01:26.

stunning. He's won gold in the 100. Now he's won gold on the 50. Adam

:01:27.:01:35.

Peaty fulfilling the potential. The first time the 50/100 doubles ever

:01:36.:01:37.

done in the World Championships for men. What a superstar. Look at the

:01:38.:01:46.

power that he has. The world record holder, the defending European

:01:47.:01:57.

champion, the Commonwealth champion. Welcome back to Rio and it could be

:01:58.:02:02.

a golden night for team GB. Adam Peaty could land the first gold

:02:03.:02:06.

medal of the Rio Olympics in the men's 100 metres breaststroke. Do

:02:07.:02:09.

stay with us. What a night we have lined up for you. Great sport over

:02:10.:02:17.

the next few hours. He set a world record in the heats

:02:18.:02:21.

on day one, can Adam Peaty do it all again and secure top spot on the

:02:22.:02:30.

podium? And on her Olympic debut, Jazz Carlin hoping to secure a medal

:02:31.:02:40.

in the 400 metres free. Liam Pitchford played the opening match

:02:41.:02:45.

in table tennis. He's up again in a few moments time. The Murray

:02:46.:02:50.

brothers of Andy and Jamie are on court later. We'll pick up their

:02:51.:02:53.

match later as they pick up their quest for doubles gold.

:02:54.:02:59.

And stay with tennis. Novak Djokovic has won multiple majors and the

:03:00.:03:04.

Davis Cup but would love to make Murray's Olympic title. He starts

:03:05.:03:15.

again Juan Martin Del Potro. Brazil have never won gold in the

:03:16.:03:19.

football in the Olympics and they've had some much-needed improvement

:03:20.:03:23.

against Iraq. So this is how it all plays out. Get

:03:24.:03:27.

your evening planned because live table tennis is coming up in the

:03:28.:03:33.

next few minutes as Liam Pitchford starts the third round match against

:03:34.:03:37.

Korea. And Novak Djokovic has won two grand slams and now going for

:03:38.:03:43.

Olympic gold. Brazil play Iraq in the second match in Brasilia. A

:03:44.:03:51.

wonderful stadium. We will bring you the goals if there are any. They

:03:52.:03:54.

were disappointing against South Africa. At 5:53, set your alarm

:03:55.:04:00.

clock, Adam Peaty could win our first gold medal of the Games. Jazz

:04:01.:04:07.

Carlin goes for gold in the 400 metres freestyle at 3:03 but up

:04:08.:04:14.

against a tough field. America's Katie Ledecky, the favourite.

:04:15.:04:19.

Well, it's been a very windy day here in Rio and the weather today

:04:20.:04:23.

and this evening, slightly chilly out there today. Not that we're

:04:24.:04:26.

disappointed in any way, shape or form. In fact, the rowing was

:04:27.:04:31.

cancelled. Tennis delayed but the divers still got on with it. A lot

:04:32.:04:35.

calmer now down on Copacabana Beach, the home for our studio. The locals

:04:36.:04:39.

are still out on the beach. Volleyball right down at the very

:04:40.:04:42.

end. That was earlier today. Even though it was slightly windy today,

:04:43.:04:46.

people still out and about on the beach. So the main man in the pool

:04:47.:04:55.

tonight is Adam Peaty. How are you? Good, thanks. Good. Do you get sick

:04:56.:05:00.

of walking through those doors? Not really. You must do. At 5:00am, it

:05:01.:05:05.

is not every day that you go - I'm so happy to be here. Positive

:05:06.:05:10.

attitude, isn't it? You are very positive, I'll give you that. What a

:05:11.:05:15.

brilliant 100 metres breaststroke, it's gone to Peaty. Obviously you're

:05:16.:05:19.

on the block every single day. Do you ever visualise yourself in Rio,

:05:20.:05:25.

what it will be like? A bit. I always like to visualise a race.

:05:26.:05:28.

Once you're under water, all of the cheers are there and then you hear

:05:29.:05:32.

numbness and once you take the first stroke, it's so loud.

:05:33.:05:35.

COMMENTATOR: This is a very, very big lead. This is not over. It looks

:05:36.:05:39.

like it might be Peaty. Peaty has it on the last stroke and the World

:05:40.:05:47.

Champion is Adam Peaty. Are you worried about a big crowd or relish

:05:48.:05:52.

it? Relish it. The more people there are in the crowd, I love it. I can

:05:53.:05:57.

swim good but not great when there's not a big crowd. You can't say that,

:05:58.:06:03.

you broke the world record at the World Championships with like two

:06:04.:06:06.

people in the stand. That's different because it is London! I

:06:07.:06:12.

looked at the score board and knowing no-one else has ever been

:06:13.:06:15.

near that by half a second. Your face, you went like this! I just

:06:16.:06:19.

looked at it and looked at it again and then I looked at it again and

:06:20.:06:22.

then I had to take another look to make sure that it wasn't going to be

:06:23.:06:25.

adjusted or anything. And then it was just like - yeah, world record.

:06:26.:06:29.

Adam, we're going to fly dick on the water and then we're going to pull

:06:30.:06:34.

out, but only the top half. Do you think that you would have had the

:06:35.:06:38.

same success without Mel? Or you guys are such a solid team? I don't

:06:39.:06:42.

think that I would be anywhere near I am now. I've always been, it's

:06:43.:06:46.

always been me and Mel. I have enough trust in her to put me ahead

:06:47.:06:51.

of the rest. We openly said, that he doesn't think that he would have the

:06:52.:06:55.

success if he wasn't with you. Don't you make me cry on TV, Becky. Don't

:06:56.:07:02.

you make me do that! I'm in a very unique position that I'm able to

:07:03.:07:05.

have taken a 14-year-old young man all the way to an Olympic Games as a

:07:06.:07:10.

world record holder and I will always be thankful and humble about

:07:11.:07:13.

that process. You know what an Olympics can be like. It throws all

:07:14.:07:18.

sorts of hurdles at you but I the one thing that I've known is that

:07:19.:07:22.

I've got a boy who for eight years has never given in, so if I take him

:07:23.:07:28.

there, who knows. I always think at Olympic Games, the amazing thing is

:07:29.:07:33.

that somebody comes out and goes, hiya and you never hear of it. I was

:07:34.:07:38.

the underdog in Beijing! It looks like could be Adlington. Do you

:07:39.:07:42.

think that it will be something like that in the 100 metres breaststroke,

:07:43.:07:45.

or do you think that you're the best? I think that Mel has always

:07:46.:07:49.

given me names and put them next to me and then I'll judge. It's not a

:07:50.:07:54.

cockiness but more confidence and I won't judge until I'm racing. But if

:07:55.:08:00.

someone pops out of Rio, so be it. I'll welcome the challenge, really.

:08:01.:08:03.

Looking at my training and looking at where I am in the gym, I'm

:08:04.:08:07.

definitely in the strongest position I've ever been in, so it's looking

:08:08.:08:11.

good. But at the same time, it's still my first Olympics. I've proven

:08:12.:08:14.

that I can go to my first World Championships and come back with a

:08:15.:08:19.

few medals and obviously a world record and I'm going to give it my

:08:20.:08:23.

best possible performance. We wish Adam Peaty all the very best

:08:24.:08:28.

and you can watch it live with us here on BBC One at 2:53 the time.

:08:29.:08:34.

Let's hope that Adam Peaty wins our first gold medal of the Rio 2016

:08:35.:08:39.

Olympic Games. Let's cross to the Olympic Park and Clare is talking to

:08:40.:08:43.

the youngest competitor in Team GB. Thank you, yes, alongside me is

:08:44.:08:46.

someone swimming at her first Olympics at the age of just 13

:08:47.:08:53.

because this is Kafrika Singh who is swimming here this morning for Nepal

:08:54.:08:57.

but she is based in London and goes to school in London. Tell me about

:08:58.:09:02.

the Olympics? It is amazing. I feel fortunate to be here up against so

:09:03.:09:05.

many people here. Your dad, Paris, is here. Was it the plan for her to

:09:06.:09:10.

come to Rio so young? No, it wasn't in our plans. Things just worked out

:09:11.:09:16.

and it worked out for her. An amazing experience which she can

:09:17.:09:20.

build up in the future. And you're at school. When does term start

:09:21.:09:24.

again and what will you be studying? What year are you? I'm at Year 9.

:09:25.:09:32.

The new year starts on September 6. So I'll be in Year 9. And why

:09:33.:09:36.

swimming? When did you take it up and decide - I'm good enough to go

:09:37.:09:40.

to the Olympics? I first started swimming when I was in Scotland. My

:09:41.:09:45.

dad forced me to go. Forced you! She's always going to say thank you!

:09:46.:09:53.

Thank you. And then I went a the age of 9 and from there, I built up. And

:09:54.:09:58.

having the love of swimming. And you swam in your 100 metre backstroke

:09:59.:10:02.

heat this morning. What happened? I won my heat and I'm really proud for

:10:03.:10:07.

my country. So you are an Olympic winner? Yeah. What's the plan now?

:10:08.:10:13.

Hopefully make the 2020 times in Tokyo and carry on swimming. That

:10:14.:10:16.

would be fabulous. Have you had a chance to meet any of the swimmers

:10:17.:10:19.

from the British team? Have you met Adam Peaty? Yeah, we saw him when he

:10:20.:10:24.

was training and we saw Ben Proud when he was doing a dive and I

:10:25.:10:27.

didn't realise but I was swimming down and apparently I'm in one of

:10:28.:10:32.

the Instagram photos. I look really slow, though, and he's doing a

:10:33.:10:35.

really fast dive and I'm just like - OK, I'm swimming now. Be honest,

:10:36.:10:40.

have you been taking lots of photos for your own social media purposes?

:10:41.:10:44.

Yeah, I have. Who has been your best photo so far? I didn't take any yet

:10:45.:10:50.

of people because I want to just let them concentrate on the races. But I

:10:51.:10:58.

was swimming next to one of my idols yesterday in morning, Mitchell

:10:59.:11:01.

Larkin from Australia. And I thought - should I take a photo? Maybe not,

:11:02.:11:04.

he's training. I think that it is great and fabulous that you won your

:11:05.:11:10.

heat. Enjoy the experience. Are you going to go into the aquatic centre

:11:11.:11:15.

tonight and see Adam? Yes, and hopefully see Katie Ledecky. Yes,

:11:16.:11:21.

world records have crumpled. Team Peaty will be here supporting Adam

:11:22.:11:25.

and will be here shortly so come back in just a second?

:11:26.:11:29.

Thank you very much. All eyes on the pool. Adam Peaty going at 2:53. And

:11:30.:11:36.

the other team GB competitor we're keeping a close eye on. And if Jazz

:11:37.:11:40.

Carlin could get a medal. She missed out on London 2012 but now she's in

:11:41.:11:47.

with a real chance. I'm going there to be on the podium.

:11:48.:11:56.

I'm doing everything that I can. All these years of training, all the

:11:57.:12:00.

hours and the earl why I mornings, it's for this moment in Rio. I'm

:12:01.:12:08.

going to give it absolutely everything and if that's enough to

:12:09.:12:13.

be on the podium, that would be an incredible thing. In 2011, I found

:12:14.:12:22.

out that I had glandular fever and it was tough and I was getting

:12:23.:12:27.

tonsilitis every two or three weeks and couldn't put in a consistent

:12:28.:12:32.

block of training. I went to the Olympic qualifiers and I came

:12:33.:12:35.

fourth. That was hard to take especially when you've been working

:12:36.:12:38.

so hard for so long to go to the Olympics, and especially a home

:12:39.:12:40.

Olympics. So it was pretty hard to take and I had to take some time

:12:41.:12:43.

away from the sport to find my love for it again. I was so close to

:12:44.:12:47.

hanging up the goggles and the costume, but I think that's what

:12:48.:12:51.

sport is like. It tests you and it's about how you overcome the sort of

:12:52.:12:55.

lows to appreciate all of the highs and have all of the good times

:12:56.:12:58.

throughout sport. I'm 25 now and that's quite unusual for someone to

:12:59.:13:02.

be at their first Olympics at 25. But it's finally nice to come out

:13:03.:13:06.

the other side and achieve the dream of going to the Olympic. It's a

:13:07.:13:12.

really good feeling. COMMENTATOR: Jazz Carlin from

:13:13.:13:14.

Swansea takes Wales to gold. For Glasgow, it was the home games that

:13:15.:13:18.

I never got to experience and to have my family there and my friends,

:13:19.:13:23.

have the support, it was so nice for everyone that supported me and to

:13:24.:13:26.

see me come out the other side and achieve the dreams and to actually

:13:27.:13:29.

be enjoying my swimming again and to be standing on top of the podium a

:13:30.:13:34.

hearing the national anthem. It's probably my proudest moment to date,

:13:35.:13:39.

really. Sometimes I do take myself too seriously and I think that I can

:13:40.:13:42.

really hard on myself and I think that that is natural as an athlete.

:13:43.:13:45.

But I think just to appreciate everything and I think especially

:13:46.:13:49.

this year, as it's been the Olympic year and I've been quite stressed

:13:50.:13:54.

and it's been... I've put a lot of pressure on myself. I think because

:13:55.:13:58.

I've wanted it so much for so long but once I realised that it is just

:13:59.:14:01.

swimming and sport and something that I've loved to do and since I

:14:02.:14:04.

was a young girl, I loved being in the pool and racing and having fun

:14:05.:14:09.

so I've tried to capture that feeling again and have that

:14:10.:14:11.

enjoyment back into my training again. I'm going to make sure that I

:14:12.:14:16.

do absolutely everything and have no regrets. Once I'm on the blocks and

:14:17.:14:20.

given 110% in all that I've done and have no regrets, then I can walk

:14:21.:14:24.

away from the pool knowing that I've given absolute le everything in

:14:25.:14:27.

there. Well, Jazz was absolutely devastated

:14:28.:14:31.

to miss out on London 2012 but let's hope, fingers crossed, that she can

:14:32.:14:35.

get on the podium at least this evening. Let's cross live to our

:14:36.:14:39.

swimming team. Helen Skelton is there and what a night it would be

:14:40.:14:44.

if Jazz Carlin won a medal. What a night indeed and it's not an

:14:45.:14:46.

unrealistic suggestion. Not when you take into consideration what she did

:14:47.:14:52.

earl errier in the pool today. Becky Adlington, you have two medals in

:14:53.:14:57.

this event. How excited were you seeing the performance this morning?

:14:58.:14:59.

Jazz Carlin has looked the best she's ever looked to me this

:15:00.:15:03.

morning. She looks so relaxed, so strong and so in control. We saw

:15:04.:15:06.

earlier this year at the trials that she was so nervous and got so worked

:15:07.:15:09.

up that she didn't actually qualify for the 100, which most people say

:15:10.:15:13.

is her better event and then she went and smashed the 400 and did

:15:14.:15:16.

fantastic at it. So it's amazing that she's come here and laid out

:15:17.:15:20.

that mark and blown the cobwebs away and not focused on the nerves and

:15:21.:15:23.

what happened the a the beginning of the year and said - you know what,

:15:24.:15:26.

this has been my dream and what I want to do and she went in there.

:15:27.:15:29.

And the fact that she's next to Katie Ledecky as well. That's pretty

:15:30.:15:32.

daunting going into a thing knowing that she's got the gold. But that

:15:33.:15:35.

doesn't scare Jazz. I think that Jazz is going in there with a mind

:15:36.:15:40.

set that she can win a medal if she swims her own race, other hen pace

:15:41.:15:43.

and not let the occasion get the better of her and I do genuinely

:15:44.:15:47.

believe that she's capable of being there. Today she got a PB, a new

:15:48.:15:51.

Welsh record. What about the mind set, though? Because this is a much

:15:52.:15:54.

bigger stage than the British trials and as you say, the nerves got the

:15:55.:15:58.

better of her there. Are you confident sha she can keep a lid on

:15:59.:16:02.

it and do what she needs to do tonight? Jazz is so experienced that

:16:03.:16:06.

most people think sha she's been to an Olympic Games before and I think

:16:07.:16:10.

that she needed that to happen at the Olympic Games and I think she's

:16:11.:16:15.

had that little blip and the freak out moment and now this is it, she's

:16:16.:16:18.

worked on it since the trials and that was really good for it to

:16:19.:16:23.

happen there and not here. And the fact that she's... Yes, Katie

:16:24.:16:28.

Ledecky will be out in front. She knows the way that Katie Ledecky

:16:29.:16:32.

swims and will be going for the world record but Jazz swam a great

:16:33.:16:36.

personal best and faster than I ever did at an Olympics games so I

:16:37.:16:41.

genuinely believe that she'll stick to the race plan. She's got someone

:16:42.:16:46.

great next to her from France who went out hard this morning. If Jazz

:16:47.:16:49.

can do that and use the back end that we know she has. That's

:16:50.:16:54.

amazing. You say that she swam faster than you ever did and you

:16:55.:16:58.

have two Olympic medals here. Hearing Jazz talk to Sharon after

:16:59.:17:01.

this, she was so excited and buzzing and said that she couldn't wait for

:17:02.:17:05.

tonight and get stuck in. Do Katie Ledecky have a positive effect on

:17:06.:17:09.

it? Is this going to push Jazz? I think that the thing is that we

:17:10.:17:13.

don't know what she's going to do. We saw her in the 4 x 100 relay

:17:14.:17:18.

freestyle last night that she smashed so we know that she has the

:17:19.:17:23.

speed. Katie is capable of going like 3:56 tonight which is probably

:17:24.:17:27.

a bit out of reach for Jazz Carlin and the fact that she did a personal

:17:28.:17:31.

best this morning. So I think for Jazz, she'll be trying to

:17:32.:17:37.

concentrate her own rails and use the other swimmers. She was so

:17:38.:17:40.

excited, it was brilliant to see her. We know that you'll be with us

:17:41.:17:46.

up here Helen, thank you very much. The key time for you is 2:53 so set

:17:47.:17:53.

your alarms and get the espresso ready and hopefully Adam Peaty will

:17:54.:17:57.

win the first gold medal of the 2016 Olympic Games. We'll be showing you

:17:58.:18:01.

some tennis very shortly. Andy Murray and Jamie Murray get the

:18:02.:18:04.

doubles match under way shortly but let's cross back to Olympic Park

:18:05.:18:08.

because Clare Balding is with Team Peaty.

:18:09.:18:11.

I would like to controduals you to the key back-up in Adam Peaty's

:18:12.:18:17.

life. This is mis mum, Caroline and dad Mark and girlfriends Caroline.

:18:18.:18:21.

They will be there roaring him on. Anna, when did you last see your

:18:22.:18:25.

boyfriend? I think it was probably the day or night before he left with

:18:26.:18:30.

Mel to go on the flight to Rio. So quite a while ago now. Will you

:18:31.:18:35.

shout out - will you make eye contact before the final or after

:18:36.:18:38.

it, do you think? If he can find us in the crowd. I mean, hopefully

:18:39.:18:41.

we'll be quite obvious because we've got a few banners but yeah,

:18:42.:18:45.

hopefully he'll be able to spot us somewhere in the crowd. Mark, you

:18:46.:18:49.

were saying that you were obvious walking around the park because

:18:50.:18:52.

everybody knows who you are because it is there on the shirt. We get

:18:53.:18:56.

stopped regularly by the Brazilians. What do they say? They say, "Peaty,

:18:57.:19:02.

good." And Peaty is good. How impressed are you with what he a he

:19:03.:19:06.

is done? It's fantastic what he's done and achieved but in the past,

:19:07.:19:11.

and present. So yeah, it's been very good. What do you hope for tonight?

:19:12.:19:18.

To get a medal. Of any sort, it doesn't matter. Take the pressure

:19:19.:19:22.

off yourselves in a way of watching it. Caroline, you've made a big

:19:23.:19:26.

decision coming out here to Brazil because it meant getting on a plane

:19:27.:19:29.

for the first time. How was it? It was really good. I think that the

:19:30.:19:33.

airport to go through security frightened me a little bit because

:19:34.:19:38.

that's all new. Getting on to the plane, my heart started to thump and

:19:39.:19:41.

I thought, once I'm on, I'm on. But it was a lot easier than what people

:19:42.:19:46.

have been telling me so it was really good so thank you British

:19:47.:19:49.

Airways. And how have you found the experience here in Brazil so far?

:19:50.:19:52.

It's been really good. The people are brilliant. Brazilians are so

:19:53.:19:57.

welcoming. They'll go out of the way to help you understand. Really,

:19:58.:19:59.

really welcoming. Really positive people. Now, your boy, Adam, it is

:20:00.:20:05.

an extraordinary story because the reason that he started swimming was

:20:06.:20:09.

what? Because we pushed him into swimming lessons because he needed

:20:10.:20:12.

to swim and because he wouldn't even sit down in the bath. So he needed

:20:13.:20:17.

to get into the water. Because he was scared of it? Yeah, he was. At

:20:18.:20:22.

the seaside, he was a rock pooler, finding things. He wouldn't go into

:20:23.:20:26.

the sea. Every photograph that you see, he's fully clothed. So you

:20:27.:20:29.

know, that's Adam. But now completely different. Yes, the boy

:20:30.:20:33.

who was afraid of water could become an Olympic champion tonight and this

:20:34.:20:36.

is the team that helped get him there in terms of getting up early

:20:37.:20:40.

in the morning of taking him to swimming lessons and supporting him

:20:41.:20:43.

all the way through, and providing him with love, making sure that he's

:20:44.:20:46.

confident going through and most of all, taking the pressure off. A

:20:47.:20:49.

medal of any colour, they say would be great. Good luck to all of you.

:20:50.:20:54.

Have a fabulous night. Thank you. Thank you very much. Come on Adam

:20:55.:20:59.

Peaty. 2:53, remember. Set your alarm clock and get ready and let's

:21:00.:21:04.

hope for a gold tonight for Team GB. We're going to turn our attention

:21:05.:21:09.

from the pool to tennis because Andy Murray got his Olympic defence

:21:10.:21:14.

underwait today against troit troit troit and it was -- under way

:21:15.:21:24.

against Viktor Troitski no. I will Busy day for Mr Murray because Andy

:21:25.:21:28.

is now back on court, this time in the doubles with his brother, Jamie.

:21:29.:21:34.

They fails the Brazilian pair. Just go and join our commentators.

:21:35.:21:58.

There are high hopes for this team. Thomaz Bellucci. Unseeded, Jamie and

:21:59.:22:05.

Andy are number one and two. And we hope that they will justify that

:22:06.:22:11.

seeding. But the doubles is full of very good pairs. Jamie and Andy

:22:12.:22:20.

there. But even unseeded. Djokovic won today. Roberto Bautista Agut and

:22:21.:22:31.

Ferrer. Rafa is playing with Mark Lopez. It's a very tough ask to win

:22:32.:22:35.

this title and Andy and Jamie don't have the best of records in Beijing.

:22:36.:22:43.

They got to the second round. Beaten by Clement and Lodre and there

:22:44.:22:46.

wasn't a lot of brotherly love floating around after that and four

:22:47.:22:52.

years later in London, they yost to Meltzer and Payet. But obviously a

:22:53.:22:56.

lot has happened since then. Winning the Davis Cup was huge. And also

:22:57.:23:00.

started off the campaign this year in the Davis Cup in Birmingham

:23:01.:23:04.

beating Japan, the two of them together. They're a much better

:23:05.:23:19.

outfit now, but they'll need to be here against Thomaz Bellucci and

:23:20.:23:23.

Saha. Bellucci the left-hander. A left and right handed pair on both

:23:24.:23:37.

sides of the net. Andre Saha ranked 39. Thomaz Bellucci ranked 55 in

:23:38.:23:42.

singles and 102 in doubles but they will be a heck of a proposition. It

:23:43.:23:44.

is Andy Murray to begin. Andy looking confident in the

:23:45.:24:08.

opening match. For those new to the tennis, it is a

:24:09.:24:25.

slow court. It checks the ball. That won't be as important in doubles as

:24:26.:24:27.

it will in singles. Temperature is around 23. It's been

:24:28.:24:45.

falling for the last hour or two. I think that the hot weather we've had

:24:46.:24:49.

in the last few days has gone for a few days but it is humid. 73%

:24:50.:24:52.

humidity. Cracking volley from Andy Murray as

:24:53.:25:17.

he came forward. So just surveying the scene here.

:25:18.:25:30.

The match that's going on a lot later than it was scheduled because

:25:31.:25:33.

of the late start, because of the wind, they were worried about the

:25:34.:25:37.

structures so play started about an hour and a half late. So this very

:25:38.:25:42.

much an evening match. 8:30 local time. But quite a few of spectators

:25:43.:25:53.

have stayed to watch this and it should be atmospheric. So it's

:25:54.:26:01.

Bellucci, the left-hander to begin serving.

:26:02.:26:22.

Ar that's some start from Bellucci. Bellucci, who played this morning

:26:23.:26:34.

against Dustin Brown. Brown got injured. Bellucci through to the

:26:35.:26:37.

second round. He has got a big serve, Bellucci.

:26:38.:27:44.

Toned it down a bit for doubles but very effective.

:27:45.:27:58.

How acrobatic was that from Andre Sa. He might be 39 years of age, but

:27:59.:28:07.

really twisted his body in some kind of contortion there. And that's got

:28:08.:28:10.

the crowd going. Don't try that one next time you're

:28:11.:28:36.

on the courts. He did really well to keep his balance.

:28:37.:28:59.

Jamie, of course, has been number one in the world in doubles this

:29:00.:29:07.

year. Just dropped a bit laty. Down to six.

:29:08.:29:35.

Close! Giving it a second look, but no challenge. Hawk eye is available

:29:36.:29:46.

here on this court. Most joyously received there. He's

:29:47.:30:23.

looking sharp, Bellucci. Two cracking returns from Bellucci

:30:24.:30:53.

there by Sa. And suddenly, here are two break points to defend.

:30:54.:31:18.

Oh, great instinctive volley from Andy Murray. He came at him like a

:31:19.:31:30.

bullet. It wasn't the sweet spot, but he did so well to get a racquet

:31:31.:31:40.

to it and then compose after that. Still break point.

:31:41.:32:25.

The two Brits like a wall at the net. Probing, but finding nothing.

:32:26.:32:29.

Two break points saved. World cohesion from these two. They

:32:30.:33:02.

have developed as a doubles pairing over the last few years. Davis Cup,

:33:03.:33:05.

of course, very much the highlight. They will be very relieved, very

:33:06.:33:41.

happy, to have got out of that hole. Two point breaks saved and now 2-1.

:33:42.:33:50.

Jamie, of course, plays most of the time with the Brazilian Bruno

:33:51.:34:02.

Suaruz. He and his partner scored a win today. They played against some

:34:03.:34:25.

Ties. He's had a lot of success with Andre Sa. So it will be Sa, the

:34:26.:34:36.

fourth to serve here. Of the two Brazil yeps, this is the

:34:37.:35:14.

likely serve to be broken. -- Brazilians, this is the likely serve

:35:15.:35:18.

to be broken. He doesn't have anywhere near the power of his

:35:19.:35:24.

partner. Bellucci equally not as strong as Sa at the net.

:35:25.:35:52.

He has lightning reflexes. There was nothing that Bellucci could do about

:35:53.:36:25.

that. Ed he got it second time around, Jamie. A huge by of luck for

:36:26.:36:29.

the Brazilians. Where is it? There it is.

:36:30.:36:48.

Well played! CHEERING

:36:49.:36:52.

Cheer A lovely angle from Bellucci. You can see Sa, the pressure taken

:36:53.:37:07.

off. A comfortable hold. All of the makings on a cracking doubles.

:37:08.:38:12.

You would expect nothing less. He served very well in his singles.

:38:13.:38:17.

Around 70% first serves in. Hardly dropped a point. He hardly dropped a

:38:18.:38:27.

point on that first serve. UMPIRE: net, first service.

:38:28.:39:01.

Oh, beautiful hands. He is so quick with his hands at the net.

:39:02.:39:09.

Astonishing reflexes, Jamie Murray. UMPIRE: Game Murray, Murray. Really

:39:10.:39:35.

high-class stuff. Magnificent serving from Andy. Three games to

:39:36.:39:37.

two. Andy with a magnificent year, of

:39:38.:39:50.

course, winning in Paris, Queens and a second time at Wimbledon. Jamie

:39:51.:39:59.

started the year off in quite sensational form with Bruno Suarez,

:40:00.:40:02.

winning the first two tournaments of the year in Sydney and of course in

:40:03.:40:05.

Melbourne winning the Australian Open. The final in two other

:40:06.:40:18.

tournaments, Top Gear tournaments in Monte Carlo and Toronto. He's become

:40:19.:40:24.

one of the leading doubles players in the world and for some time this

:40:25.:40:31.

year THE leading doubles player in the world.

:40:32.:40:43.

Bellucci to serve for the second time.

:40:44.:41:14.

Well, net court made the difference. Andy Murray with no chance of

:41:15.:41:59.

putting that away. It is one of his favourite returns,

:42:00.:42:18.

the lob return off the forehand. We will see plenty more of that from

:42:19.:42:30.

Jamie Murray. Oh! Dynamic interception there from

:42:31.:42:49.

Andre Sa! CHEERING

:42:50.:42:50.

But a rally full of good stuff. You can see he is such a live wire

:42:51.:43:21.

at the net. Just enough width there from Jamie.

:43:22.:43:31.

CHEERING UMPIRE: Game Bellucci and Sa. Three

:43:32.:43:50.

games all. Service breaks will be at a premium. This match, the best of

:43:51.:43:54.

three tie break sets. They are picking up where Sa left

:43:55.:44:27.

off. Full stretch on the interception and brilliantly

:44:28.:44:27.

controlled. Again, such a cute angle. He is

:44:28.:45:12.

devastating whenever he gets near the net. As they set up, Jamie on

:45:13.:45:21.

serve. He stands a good way back behind the baseline and then a big

:45:22.:45:22.

step forward. Bellucci leading up on that massive

:45:23.:45:41.

forehand. One of the biggest forehands in the worldment -- world.

:45:42.:46:33.

He could keep serve. Sa was anxious to attack it to put a dent in the

:46:34.:46:42.

confidence, but they have not been able to manage that.

:46:43.:47:07.

Oh, fantastic! Andy deserved better. Extraordinary vollying work from

:47:08.:47:16.

him, but what about that shot from Andre Sa?! So skilful. Andy at the

:47:17.:47:25.

net. A shot that he would have been proud to make, that one.

:47:26.:47:51.

Oh, yes! He's on fire at the moment. He threaded the needle. The brothers

:47:52.:48:17.

are looking at each other. Jamie expected Andy to go for that.

:48:18.:48:35.

A little clip off the net helped a great deal there tow slow them up.

:48:36.:48:42.

-- to slow them up. He wasn't hanging around that time,

:48:43.:49:21.

Andy Murray. So Jamie holds, 4-3. UMPIRE: Murray, Murray lead four

:49:22.:49:25.

games to three. Just going the move away from this match ever so quickly

:49:26.:49:29.

to bring you up-to-date with some of the other big stories and tell you

:49:30.:49:34.

what is going on in the Games tonight. A big shock, Serena and

:49:35.:49:40.

Venus Williams going out. They lost to the cheque pair. It is the first

:49:41.:49:46.

time the Williams sisters have lost an Olympic tennis match together.

:49:47.:49:49.

Venus has been suffering from a virus and went out in the first

:49:50.:49:53.

round yesterday, although Serena did progress in the singles earlier

:49:54.:49:58.

today. A pretty big story in the women's doubles. Elsewhere tonight,

:49:59.:50:05.

if you fancy a little bit of table tennis, well, Britain's Liam

:50:06.:50:11.

pitchford has had a busy day. He is doing well in the third-round match

:50:12.:50:18.

against the Korean. If you want to lead to the Rio Centro you can do

:50:19.:50:25.

that via your red button. If you fabsy a bit more tennis, Novak

:50:26.:50:29.

Djokovic is taking on Juan Martin del Potro who bizarrely got stuck in

:50:30.:50:35.

a lift earlier today and was saved by the Brazilian handball team. He

:50:36.:50:38.

was stuck in the lift for 20 minutes. A beautiful setting there.

:50:39.:50:41.

That is available on BBC Four. Remember, we will cross live to the

:50:42.:50:45.

swim shortly. It is a massive night for Adam Peaty. Many even's 100

:50:46.:50:52.

metre breast stroke final and then Jazz Carlin is in the women's 400

:50:53.:50:58.

metre freestyle champion at 3:01. Do stay with us. Back to the men's

:50:59.:51:00.

doubles. Simon Reid. So inroads at the start of this is a

:51:01.:51:17.

sa service game. -- Sa service game. CHEERING

:51:18.:52:14.

Clinical work at the net from Bellucci.

:52:15.:52:44.

Well, he may be the old court of the court, 39 years of age, Andre Sa,

:52:45.:52:51.

but he's having a Dream Time at the moment. -- dreamtime at the moment.

:52:52.:53:08.

I don't think Jamie and Andy understand Portuguese. Old habits

:53:09.:53:09.

die-hard. Dream time at I thought Sa's serve was the more

:53:10.:53:37.

vulnerable of the two, but it hasn't looked that way. They are picking

:53:38.:53:45.

away at this one. A tie break looking very much a probability.

:53:46.:54:03.

Sa quickly onto this. He wasn't about to make a mistake, not the way

:54:04.:54:19.

that he is playing at the moment. He is the star turn.

:54:20.:55:05.

Oh, fantastic rally. Changing the point of attack. A full-blooded

:55:06.:55:10.

return. A really strong play from twhos. I

:55:11.:55:24.

-- these two. UMPIRE: Game, Murray, Murray. He's

:55:25.:56:09.

served magnificently well, in both singles and doubles. They lead 5-4.

:56:10.:56:19.

Let's bring you up-to-date with some of the other tennis British. Johanna

:56:20.:56:24.

Konta made it safely through into Round 2 of the women's singles. Col

:56:25.:56:30.

fort 6-3, 6-1 victory. Her victory means that all four British singles

:56:31.:56:36.

players in Rio de Janeiro have made it into Round 2 where 10th seed

:56:37.:56:41.

Konta will play Caroline Garcia of France. So well done to Johanna

:56:42.:56:45.

Konta. The big news from the tennis competition is that the women's

:56:46.:56:48.

doubles have seen a massive shock today. Venus and Serena both

:56:49.:56:54.

crashing out. Back to the Murray boys. Simon Reid. Thank you, Jason.

:56:55.:57:00.

It is very tight here. They havego keep the standard that they have had

:57:01.:57:05.

right the way through. Any slip and these two will be onto them. They

:57:06.:57:16.

know that. Real cohesion and brilliant reflexes. So it will be

:57:17.:57:25.

Thomaz Belluci to serve to cope this pair in this opening set.

:57:26.:57:32.

-- keep this pair in this opening set.

:57:33.:57:54.

A really tricky serve. Returning is not Jamie's forethey. -- forte.

:57:55.:58:05.

There wasn't much he could do with that.

:58:06.:58:15.

But returning is one of his brother's greatest strengths.

:58:16.:58:21.

Again, the electric Sa. He merges from nowhere.

:58:22.:58:48.

I am not sure what he was trying to do there. He was obviously trying a

:58:49.:58:55.

lob, but I don't quite know why. Only he knows.

:58:56.:59:12.

No problem! CHEERING

:59:13.:59:54.

so five games each. Everyone holding serve pretty comfortably apart from

:59:55.:59:58.

Jamie's first service game where he had to save - he and Andy had to

:59:59.:00:00.

save two break points. Slightly disappointed that he

:00:01.:00:36.

couldn't have made more of it. He was trying to be a little bit too

:00:37.:01:40.

cute that time, Jamie. Well played. Again Andy Murray so

:01:41.:02:46.

quick to see the opportunity. Once again, job done and Andre Sa

:02:47.:03:06.

will be hoping to try to take this into a breaker. Phenomenal reaction.

:03:07.:03:17.

See the weight going backwards. More to drill that in. But still, the

:03:18.:03:24.

technique and astonishing reflexes to make a winner out of it.

:03:25.:03:44.

The pair are rock solid. Conditions are much easier now than when Andy

:03:45.:03:51.

played earlier on against Viktor Troicki. It windy and he felt that

:03:52.:03:58.

it was tricky. Gradually came to terms with everything in the end and

:03:59.:04:00.

Viktor Troicki rather faded away. Pity because he played that rally so

:04:01.:05:06.

well, Andy Murray. Terrific return. A shot to make it difficult for the

:05:07.:05:10.

net player. But didn't work that time.

:05:11.:05:34.

He's really hitting the spots. He may not have the most penetrating

:05:35.:05:41.

serve of all time, Andre Sa. But the direction is now perfect.

:05:42.:06:10.

First double of the match so far for the Brazilian pair.

:06:11.:06:32.

And tacking play from both Andy and Jamie. They haven't had a break

:06:33.:06:38.

point yet. Pity. It was a perfect lob, but just

:06:39.:07:15.

couldn't follow it up. So they're a point away from a

:07:16.:07:52.

tie-break. And there it is. It's been nip and tuck all the way

:07:53.:07:58.

through. You'd have to know more than me to pick a winner here with

:07:59.:08:16.

any confidence. So, Andy to begin the first set tie-break.

:08:17.:08:41.

That is some miss from Andre Sa, who has played so well. Real chance

:08:42.:08:54.

there of a mini break. A defence there. But he knows that he should

:08:55.:08:58.

have made it. So really, just one mini break could

:08:59.:09:05.

be crucial here. No prisoners. But he's played like

:09:06.:09:19.

that throughout this match. Oh, yes. That's some return. Sa was

:09:20.:09:51.

just edging towards the middle. Jamie, we saw him go a little early.

:09:52.:09:57.

But that was some result. And there is the first mini break.

:09:58.:10:34.

A 4-1 lead would probably be insurmountable with Andy's serve.

:10:35.:10:39.

Two serves to go. That was a super shot from Thomaz

:10:40.:11:04.

Bellucci. Jamie is a tall guy, 6'3" like Andy.

:11:05.:11:14.

So the mini break is neutralised. So Andre Sa knew which way he was

:11:15.:12:07.

going. Well, they waited a long time for this. They really have had their

:12:08.:12:16.

money's worth with the late, late start and the late, late evening. A

:12:17.:12:24.

super doubles after that with the demise of the Williams' sisters

:12:25.:12:28.

beaten from the girls from the Czech Republic. And now this.

:12:29.:12:49.

Brazil hit the front for the first time in the match.

:12:50.:13:07.

He saw the stretch and he was not balanced there, Jamie. He couldn't

:13:08.:13:26.

get back. Andy trying to cover. But nowhere near. Fabulous shot from

:13:27.:13:32.

Bellucci and they're two points away from the opening set.

:13:33.:13:53.

So Andy now to return this huge serve. But he'll move forward.

:13:54.:14:31.

Oh, super perseverance. It looked like Jamie had done enough at the

:14:32.:14:35.

net. Two set points for Brazil. So quick to see the opportunity. And

:14:36.:15:04.

in they came, like sprinters. Set point number two but this time

:15:05.:15:29.

on Jamie's serve. Well, that's a wonderful serve. And

:15:30.:15:59.

these two have played so much Davis Cup together. They're used to this

:16:00.:16:03.

kind of atmosphere. It feels almost like a Davis Cup final. Even though

:16:04.:16:09.

not the amount of spectators but the noise being generated. So out of

:16:10.:16:16.

jail, two set points saved. And that's the worst scenario,

:16:17.:17:00.

really. A third set point for Brazil. And it's their serve. Sa,

:17:01.:17:10.

can you -- can he finish it off? Nope! A wonderful set of tennis. But

:17:11.:17:35.

it is Brazil who take the first set. 53 minutes of high-class stuff. Andy

:17:36.:17:42.

and Jamie denied, for now. It's Brazil leading one set to love.

:17:43.:17:48.

For the moment, thank you very much indeed. High, entertaining and

:17:49.:17:53.

quality stuff in the tennis and Jamie and Andy, not only up against

:17:54.:17:58.

Bellucci and Sa, but also a very noisy Brazilian crowd. Not there in

:17:59.:18:03.

massive numbers but trust me, having been to the beach volleyball when

:18:04.:18:06.

Brazil were playing, they make a lot of noise. Let's take you around some

:18:07.:18:09.

of the other venues and show you what's happening now. Let's take you

:18:10.:18:14.

to Barra and show you what's happening in the table tennis. It's

:18:15.:18:21.

Britain's Liam Pitchford up against Yeung from Korea. He's already

:18:22.:18:23.

played today. That was a second round match. This is now a third

:18:24.:18:31.

round match and you just wonder whether today's exertion in the

:18:32.:18:35.

round has taken its toll on Liam. 'S three games to one down. It's the

:18:36.:18:39.

best of seven. First of four and best of five games in the team event

:18:40.:18:43.

and if you want a little explanation there. A game is won by the first

:18:44.:18:47.

player to reach 11 points. That's available on the red button. But of

:18:48.:18:55.

course, the big event this evening is in the pool Adam Peaty could win

:18:56.:19:00.

the first gold medal. He could win the first gold medal. It's fair to

:19:01.:19:03.

say we're all pretty excited. It's been a long time since we had a male

:19:04.:19:08.

Olympic champion. That man is with me now in the pool. Adrian

:19:09.:19:14.

Moorehouse back in 19 # 8. You won the 100 metre breaststroke which is

:19:15.:19:18.

what Adam is going for. This is you in action. You came into that event,

:19:19.:19:21.

like Adam, the world chaffion, the marked man. Could you enjoy it?

:19:22.:19:29.

Could I enjoy it? At that point, yes? Yes, but you were six there.

:19:30.:19:34.

You said your mum and dad were having kittens there? Big problems

:19:35.:19:38.

for the supporters. Coming in as world number one and I had held the

:19:39.:19:42.

title for quite a while and same as Adam Peaty here. Though it was my

:19:43.:19:46.

second Olympics so of knew what to expect. I think he's in a better

:19:47.:19:49.

position than I was in actually. At that point, I think that it was

:19:50.:19:53.

about delivering when it counted. Because similarly, I had done my

:19:54.:19:56.

heats the day before and I had a whole day to sleep, to heat, to do

:19:57.:20:01.

the whole thing and just wait for the race and I just couldn't wait

:20:02.:20:04.

for it to happen. I was so excited about it happening. Looking at Adam,

:20:05.:20:08.

you would say that he is excited. He smashed his own world record in the

:20:09.:20:12.

heat. He looks very relaxed and justifiably so. Can we hang the

:20:13.:20:16.

medal around the neck? Nothing is ever certain until it's over. But I

:20:17.:20:20.

can't see anybody... I mine, he came into this one and a half seconds

:20:21.:20:23.

ahead of the rest of the world. The people here, already in the first

:20:24.:20:30.

two races, he's beaten by 1.2 seconds so he's light years away

:20:31.:20:33.

from everybody else. What sets him apart? If you think about what he's

:20:34.:20:36.

done for the last few years. From the moment that you saw him the a

:20:37.:20:40.

the Commonwealth Games, what sets him apart? There's obviously the

:20:41.:20:43.

physical attributes, physical and mental. And I think that physically,

:20:44.:20:48.

he's got everything. Technically, he's a good package. He's 6'3". He's

:20:49.:20:55.

a locomotive. He's in good shape and he's worked on the technical bits

:20:56.:20:58.

and the dive and he had to do a bit of work on the diven. He holds the

:20:59.:21:03.

water well U' see no dead spot. The big trick there. There's two parts

:21:04.:21:07.

to it. You don't keep it there. You have to keep it flowing. He's

:21:08.:21:12.

brilliant at keeping it flowing but mentally you've seen him and heard

:21:13.:21:16.

him being interviewed. He's the coolest calmest person that you'll

:21:17.:21:20.

meet and the combination of having the technical ability and the talent

:21:21.:21:23.

to do this and then cope with the pressure in the moment and just put

:21:24.:21:26.

the bubble around yourself and say, you know what, I shouldn't be here.

:21:27.:21:31.

And what he's good at doing is turning threats to opportunities but

:21:32.:21:34.

everybody will say - yeah, you're the best in the world. And he'll

:21:35.:21:38.

say, yes, I'm the best in the world. So he has everything there, the

:21:39.:21:42.

complete package. But you can be confident because as you say, he has

:21:43.:21:46.

the distance and has 1.5 seconds worth of confidence. It's a huge

:21:47.:21:50.

amount. I won my race by 100th of a second. A win is a win. That's

:21:51.:21:55.

right, a gold medal is a gold medal but he has great distance. A gold

:21:56.:21:59.

medal that your daughtering Daisy, who is 7 years old took to school

:22:00.:22:04.

and carried it off there. It was Olympic week three weeks ago and she

:22:05.:22:08.

said, is it OK if I bring this to school? And I said - yes, make sure

:22:09.:22:13.

that you bring it back. Don't worry, it is back in the safe now. You can

:22:14.:22:18.

see that the warm-ups are going on behind us but the finals start in

:22:19.:22:23.

about 40 minutes. Jazz Carlin and Adam Peaty flying the flag for

:22:24.:22:26.

Britain in the finals tonight. Thank you very much indeed for the

:22:27.:22:34.

moment. So 2:53 for Adam Peaty. And later on for Jazz Carlin. Let's show

:22:35.:22:44.

you a quick tweet from Spencer Wilton, US Masters champ -- Danny

:22:45.:22:51.

Willett. Let's rejoin Simon because Brazil took the first set. Jamie and

:22:52.:22:58.

Andy Murray fighting back. Yes, it's still some fight. 30-30.

:22:59.:23:21.

Strange shot there as he barks out an insult to himself.

:23:22.:23:52.

Well, Bellucci just fell apart at the end of that game. Very strange.

:23:53.:24:02.

Bellucci has played really well but suddenly in that game, everything

:24:03.:24:03.

went south. Got a little help from the net there

:24:04.:25:07.

but came across quickly to it. Well, he made the move and you would

:25:08.:25:41.

expect Bellucci to make it but he has suddenly become the weak link in

:25:42.:25:45.

this match and he'll be a target for these two.

:25:46.:26:04.

It's almost like by winning the first set, the intensity drained out

:26:05.:26:18.

of him. He's making mistake after mistake now, Bellucci.

:26:19.:26:25.

Must have been close, but no challenge.

:26:26.:26:36.

That's more like it. Good save from Jamie. But Bellucci up to the mark

:26:37.:26:43.

there. Really good covering from Andy.

:26:44.:27:28.

Working really well together. And off in a rush to the second set.

:27:29.:28:22.

Exquisite play from Andy Murray right from the return. Looking for

:28:23.:28:28.

the opening and in the end, finding just the shot.

:28:29.:28:51.

He's a real jack-in-the-box is Andre Sa. Got as high as 19 in the world

:28:52.:29:00.

back in 2009. Ranked 60 in doubles.

:29:01.:29:09.

Hard to believe there are 59 better doubles players than him.

:29:10.:29:28.

Just got it. Looked very athletic and indeed acrobatic. Must have been

:29:29.:30:07.

very close to the sideline. So, Sa holds. Not without

:30:08.:30:17.

difficulty. STUDIO: We'll go back to the tennis

:30:18.:30:50.

very shortly but disappointing news from the table tennis because Great

:30:51.:30:54.

Britain's Liam Pitchford has crashed out of the men's singles in the

:30:55.:31:01.

third already played today. He came up against a really tough competitor

:31:02.:31:06.

from Korea. Ranked number 12 in the world. Too much for Liam Pitchford.

:31:07.:31:12.

Disappointment for him. Back to the tennis.

:31:13.:31:16.

COMMENTATOR: The Brits are in pretty good form having suffered the

:31:17.:31:23.

disappointment of losing that first set. A terrific start, breaking

:31:24.:31:28.

Baluchi's serve at the start here. The music of the Beatles has reached

:31:29.:31:48.

all around the world of course. Just the one break of serve in the match,

:31:49.:31:53.

no breaks at all in the first set. Just that break of the Belucci serve

:31:54.:32:00.

at the start of the second. They are doing a good job of getting the

:32:01.:32:02.

crowd of just a little bit quieter. Yes! Jamie setting it up, showing

:32:03.:33:01.

great athleticism. A pulverising finish.

:33:02.:33:33.

Instinctive volley but it worked a treat.

:33:34.:33:49.

Remarkable the control that Andy Murray has in really difficult

:33:50.:33:54.

situations. Just missed. Really good try from

:33:55.:34:59.

Sa, but the angle just a little bit too acute. That 2-game lead is

:35:00.:35:02.

restored. Bellucci, who lost his serve first

:35:03.:35:11.

up, will serve again. Just away from the corner, the lob

:35:12.:35:41.

returned from Jamie again. -- return.

:35:42.:36:07.

Just great defence from Andy Murray. And once more the mistake from

:36:08.:36:16.

Bellucci. Not having as good a set as he was in the first.

:36:17.:36:50.

Am a well played. Again, such quick thinking from Andre Sa -- again well

:36:51.:37:00.

played. Looked like he was going to be very unlucky. This could have

:37:01.:37:05.

been very tricky but not at all. This will do his confidence the

:37:06.:37:26.

world of good, Bellucci, if he can hold with some comfort here. The

:37:27.:37:27.

crowd getting back into it. Must have only just missed. They are

:37:28.:37:46.

going to challenge. I think it might just be out but certainly worth a

:37:47.:37:48.

challenge. It was. So, Bellucci's confidence has been

:37:49.:38:09.

restored and the Brits lead 3-2 in this second set.

:38:10.:38:12.

STUDIO: Andy and Jamie still very much in this one, back to the tennis

:38:13.:38:18.

and Simon Rig, our match commentator, very shortly. Let's

:38:19.:38:24.

talk to our man keeping an eye on the gymnastics. Yesterday it was all

:38:25.:38:29.

about the women and a remarkable recovery from Elie Dowling today.

:38:30.:38:33.

Absolutely. She's one of these athletes who we expect now, she's

:38:34.:38:37.

only 16, but we expect big things from her, she did well on the world

:38:38.:38:42.

stage, the European stage and now on the Olympic stage. There was a big

:38:43.:38:46.

worry for her because on her floor routine she fell on her front punch

:38:47.:38:51.

and landed on her neck and she had to stop and go off and have some

:38:52.:38:55.

treatment. She told me afterwards she heard a crunch in her neck and

:38:56.:39:00.

she was put in a wheelchair but then she was determined to come out and

:39:01.:39:03.

compete and finished for the team and she ended up doing a 14.8 to

:39:04.:39:09.

help the team to a score of 1.74. That wasn't a perfect performance

:39:10.:39:13.

from Great Britain but it was enough to get into the final and they are

:39:14.:39:17.

in the mix in that region where they could win a medal on Tuesday. Good

:39:18.:39:22.

news. But looking at what social media is saying tonight, it sounds

:39:23.:39:26.

like the Americans are on fire in the gymnastics? Jason, I don't think

:39:27.:39:31.

incredible or scintillating cuts it, we will have to start making up new

:39:32.:39:36.

words and superlatives from the dictionary because they finished the

:39:37.:39:39.

qualification session and the team lead by a full ten points. That is

:39:40.:39:45.

like a football team beating someone by 50-0 or something like that.

:39:46.:39:50.

Every gymnast in their team leads all of the individual

:39:51.:39:58.

qualifications. Biles, a phenomenon in herself, she leads by 62 points.

:39:59.:40:03.

She leaves three of the other apparatus standings and she is on

:40:04.:40:05.

course to become the first woman to win five golds at the Olympics. The

:40:06.:40:10.

way she performed tonight, no one would bet against that happening.

:40:11.:40:15.

David, thank you, we will talk to you tomorrow. Thanks very much.

:40:16.:40:18.

Let's go to Centre Court and the tennis, back to Jamie and Andy

:40:19.:40:22.

Murray shortly but let's look at this, one Martin Del Potro is taking

:40:23.:40:27.

on Novak Djokovic. Djokovic looking to wrestle the gold from Andy

:40:28.:40:28.

Murray. Del Potro has got off back to a

:40:29.:40:30.

fantastic start. Cracking shot. Look at the reaction.

:40:31.:40:44.

Absolutely loving that. Del Potro leads. That match is available for

:40:45.:40:50.

you via the website. BBC sport online. Let's go back to Simon Read

:40:51.:40:57.

and our doubles match, Jamie and Andy Murray.

:40:58.:40:59.

COMMENTATOR: While Djokovic struggles, Andy Murray, with his

:41:00.:41:04.

brother, resurgent here in the second set.

:41:05.:41:06.

Almost on cue, a double but they've got a good cushion in this

:41:07.:41:15.

particular game. The return set it up, super return

:41:16.:41:58.

from Thomas Bellucci. Andy Murray just... A bit of room there.

:41:59.:42:20.

Another good retiring, this time from Andre Sa. And would you believe

:42:21.:42:28.

it, it's the Murray serve that is under the cosh now.

:42:29.:42:38.

It's at times like this when he produces his best serves.

:42:39.:42:47.

O! Some believe. I don't think it was a clean hit. Murray furious with

:42:48.:43:02.

himself but it is Bellucci's strike and here's break point, first time

:43:03.:43:04.

on the Andy served. -- serve. Now, Bellucci again. Murray smacks

:43:05.:43:34.

the net and that's just what the crowd want. But more importantly

:43:35.:43:41.

they got the break back and it is 3-3. Just when you least expect it.

:43:42.:43:52.

. Super returning both from Sa and Bellucci. Bellucci, who has been a

:43:53.:43:57.

little off the pace early in this first set, right back on it now.

:43:58.:44:04.

Well played. He took it in his stride, did Sa.

:44:05.:45:24.

Just as strong now as they were in that wonderful opening set.

:45:25.:45:45.

Wouldn't you know it?! They are turning it around in the second set,

:45:46.:46:35.

back in front, a set and 4-3. We will bring you a bit of news. The

:46:36.:46:53.

weightlifting, the Chinese have one in the 56 kg division. The

:46:54.:46:58.

25-year-old lifted 170 kilograms in the clean and jerk. Look at this,

:46:59.:47:05.

incredible strength. That is more than three times his body weight.

:47:06.:47:19.

And here he goes. Gold medal. On its way to China.

:47:20.:47:35.

Setting a new world record total. Gold in the 56 kg division.

:47:36.:48:12.

253, com on, you can do it. Going for gold. Get the espressos in, stay

:48:13.:48:20.

with us. We go back to the tennis. Jamie Murray has been in good touch

:48:21.:48:30.

with Andre -- Andy Murray. And Thomaz Bellucci and Andre Sa. This

:48:31.:48:44.

astonishing duo of Sa and Bellucci. They are the number two seeds. The

:48:45.:48:49.

number one seeds have been beaten by Juan Sebastian, the Colombians. They

:48:50.:48:56.

are out this evening. Did he challenge? I don't think he

:48:57.:49:25.

did. He has got such a jeweller to you. -- such agility.

:49:26.:49:41.

He was millimetres away. How he avoided it, did he? Did his shirt

:49:42.:49:47.

touch? Rafael Nadal has won again. He won

:49:48.:50:13.

earlier in singles and he and Mark Lopez beat their opponents and are

:50:14.:50:17.

through to the second round. Ranked number six.

:50:18.:50:24.

Stabilising game after a difficult time for Jamie and Andy. Four games

:50:25.:50:34.

each. No breaks in the first set, remember, just one break each in set

:50:35.:50:38.

number two. Are we heading for another breaker?

:50:39.:50:52.

It was Bellucci broken at the start of the second set. To serve again.

:50:53.:50:57.

He is a different man from 20 minutes ago.

:50:58.:51:07.

Andy racing back to encourage Jamie. It was a discouraging shot, that

:51:08.:51:11.

one. He read Murray's mine. -- mind. He

:51:12.:51:48.

is having one of the matches of his life, Andre Sa. He was on his way.

:51:49.:51:51.

Preparing the shot. And again! He is picking the right

:51:52.:52:30.

moment time after time. To get involved.

:52:31.:53:02.

They love service game for Brazil. 5-4, a game away from knocking out

:53:03.:53:07.

the number two seeds. If you want to continue watching

:53:08.:53:20.

that match it is available on the Red Button. We will show you what is

:53:21.:53:25.

happening, Brazil are taking on Iraq in the football. A wonderful

:53:26.:53:30.

stadium, look at that. Magnificent. Named after the great many -- World

:53:31.:53:45.

Cup champion. That man U saw just then, Naymar, a great performance.

:53:46.:54:03.

That match is available via the Red Button. Kick-off is at two o'clock

:54:04.:54:10.

if you want to watch. Brazil. We go back to Jamie and Andy Murray,

:54:11.:54:15.

serving to stay in the match. These two have been in this

:54:16.:55:20.

situation time and time again and invariably they come out on top.

:55:21.:56:06.

Clever use of angle from Andy Murray.

:56:07.:56:24.

That match on a knife edge. If you want to continue watching could --

:56:25.:56:36.

press the Red Button. If you want the conclusion of the tennis match

:56:37.:56:38.

hit the Red Button right now. It is a really busy night right

:56:39.:56:51.

across the Olympics in Rio. We are all set to see rate Britain win its

:56:52.:56:59.

first gold medal. Adam Peaty is the man in the 100 metre breaststroke.

:57:00.:57:08.

Representing Great Britain. Nobody is faster than him. Wins the gold

:57:09.:57:28.

medal in the men's 100 metre breaststroke. Utterly stunning. He

:57:29.:57:35.

has won gold in the 100 and now gold in the 50. Adam Peaty fulfilling the

:57:36.:57:42.

potential. The first time the 50 times 100 doubles... What a

:57:43.:57:52.

superstar. The power that he has. The world record holder, the world

:57:53.:57:53.

champion... One left. Come on, Adam Peaty, you can do it.

:57:54.:58:10.

253. Get ready, hopefully Great Britain will win its first gold

:58:11.:58:15.

medal. We go live to this wonderful arena, one of the most striking.

:58:16.:58:21.

15,000 capacity. I wish I had a motorbike because I would go in get

:58:22.:58:26.

Jason Mohammad and bring him here. It is going to be an epic night. Not

:58:27.:58:31.

just for our boys, some of the biggest names on the swimming

:58:32.:58:34.

circuit will be here. It is definitely worth staying up for.

:58:35.:58:36.

What are you looking forward to? We are not married! I am really

:58:37.:58:55.

looking forward, obviously, to Adam and also Jazz. An amazing

:58:56.:58:59.

performance this morning and I hope she gets a medal tonight. 25 years

:59:00.:59:04.

of age, her first Olympics. How unusual is that? It is unusual but

:59:05.:59:10.

it does happen. The reason she didn't make it last time at 21, she

:59:11.:59:16.

was, things did not go to plan. A good last couple of years and this

:59:17.:59:21.

morning she looked exceptional. We haven't seen her look that way for a

:59:22.:59:26.

long time. People are on form and it looks easy. She has got a great

:59:27.:59:33.

opportunity tonight. Jazz has a wonderful opportunity. We are also

:59:34.:59:39.

very confident, it is fair to say, we are going to see one man topped

:59:40.:59:47.

the podium. Just talk to us about the phenomena that is... Adam Peaty.

:59:48.:59:54.

Over the last couple of years you have watched him go from the Hunter

:59:55.:59:57.

to the hunted? I'm not sure, he's gone straight to

:59:58.:00:06.

the top of the world as I Canberra member, he came off after London,

:00:07.:00:11.

and he was one of the people that inspired a nation of children --

:00:12.:00:17.

Camra member. By 2013 he was in amongst it and 2014 he won the

:00:18.:00:21.

Commonwealth Games and the Europeans. He's gone straight to the

:00:22.:00:27.

top actually. Why is he so good? He is so much faster than the rest of

:00:28.:00:32.

the field, we can almost hang that medal around his neck now, can't we?

:00:33.:00:37.

Like let's not get too carried away. I've never commented on the 100

:00:38.:00:42.

metres final where someone has been so far ahead of the rest of the

:00:43.:00:47.

field before the final, 1.4 seconds faster before the final, quite

:00:48.:00:53.

unheard of. His stroke is brilliant. He seems unfazed by it at the

:00:54.:00:58.

moment. The only thing I would say is he hasn't yet swum an Olympic

:00:59.:01:02.

final, it's very different but he's looked pretty confident and

:01:03.:01:07.

comfortable so far. Do you think he will be nice and calm in this one?

:01:08.:01:12.

Are surely, it's about managing his nerves, he's done really well so

:01:13.:01:18.

far. They are going to sneak through I think. A few butterflies in his

:01:19.:01:22.

tummy, he needs to get in the same formation. Same formation, indeed.

:01:23.:01:29.

As long as he does the right thing and holds onto his nerves he will be

:01:30.:01:36.

absolutely fine. It's time now to have a look at the women's 100 metre

:01:37.:01:42.

butterfly, Andrew Jamieson, Adrian Moorhouse, talk us through this one.

:01:43.:01:47.

COMMENTATOR: The fastest qualifier for this final of the women's 100

:01:48.:01:56.

metres butterfly. There is Sjostrom. She is a brilliant butterfly

:01:57.:02:00.

swimmer, the world champion and the world record holder on the 50 and

:02:01.:02:04.

100 metres butterfly but she's still not won an Olympic medal of any

:02:05.:02:09.

colour. Fantastic to see her, she's been at the top of her game since

:02:10.:02:14.

2012. People like Adam Peaty went straight in and won the World

:02:15.:02:17.

Championships in 2015, and she's not let it go, a bit of a favourite for

:02:18.:02:24.

me on this one. Swimming in six, Vollmer from the USA, the defending

:02:25.:02:29.

Olympic champion. Took time out and a break to have a child. Back in the

:02:30.:02:34.

Olympic final, fourth fastest qualifier. Sjostrom in four, Vollmer

:02:35.:02:41.

in six. The final of the women's 100 metres butterfly. A decent start in

:02:42.:02:51.

Lane four from Sjostrom, a good start from Ottesen from Denmark,

:02:52.:02:57.

very quick through the first 25. Interesting to see how Vollmer gets

:02:58.:03:00.

on because she has been improving since she got back after having her

:03:01.:03:05.

son, improving with every race, getting better and better in Lane

:03:06.:03:13.

six. Ahead of her own world record pace, Sjostrom. A bit scratchy down

:03:14.:03:19.

the first 50 but this is the part of the race when she really goes,

:03:20.:03:23.

Vollmer going well in the Black Hat closest to us from the USA. Sjostrom

:03:24.:03:29.

streaking away, a blitz rating the field. Sjostrom is going to become

:03:30.:03:33.

the Olympic champion, the first Swedish female ever to do so in the

:03:34.:03:39.

pool -- obliterating. A new world record. Sjostrom, I'm delighted for

:03:40.:03:48.

her. She has spent so long worrying about it and finally she's done it.

:03:49.:03:52.

Well done! Wasn't that a brilliant race? Straight off the gun, probably

:03:53.:03:59.

half a metre when she wasn't in the lead and she delivered, delivered

:04:00.:04:07.

all the expectations. 2013, 14, 15, 16, right now Olympic champion and

:04:08.:04:11.

the first Swedish woman to have ever achieved that and very

:04:12.:04:15.

well-deserved. I think it is massive for her emotion here because she was

:04:16.:04:19.

so disappointed to come forth in London in 2012. She was fourth last

:04:20.:04:24.

night in the women's four x 100 metre free relay. An OK start, not

:04:25.:04:30.

great in the centre in the yellow Hat. The outside lanes were a bit

:04:31.:04:33.

quicker but that's about the only part of the race when she didn't

:04:34.:04:39.

need it. Brilliant stroke. Very low on the water, very flat. Bringing

:04:40.:04:43.

the chin up above the water to get the air in. Dipping down, head to

:04:44.:04:49.

the bottom and get the arms and elbows around. The Swedish team...

:04:50.:04:55.

All kitted out with Sarah on their stomachs apparently. Well, look at

:04:56.:05:00.

that, a clear body length. That's the way to do it, isn't it? Olympic

:05:01.:05:07.

gold, body length. She won by 90 81 hundredths of a second. Length of a

:05:08.:05:12.

breaststroke. Same thing, what do you think? I hope so -- 90 one

:05:13.:05:20.

hundredths. Sjostrom WinZip, a new world record. A new world junior

:05:21.:05:28.

record for the 16-year-old, Oleksiak, extraordinary. British

:05:29.:05:29.

coaches coaching first and second. STUDIO: A world record and a world

:05:30.:05:38.

junior record. In the tennis, Andy and Jamie Murray are in a tie-break

:05:39.:05:42.

in the second set. Go to the red button to see them. If you want

:05:43.:05:47.

swimming, don't press the button. James guy in the 200 free, big names

:05:48.:05:53.

in this one, Chad lacrosse, Sun Yang, so much to talk about but

:05:54.:05:57.

James, he's the world champion, what have you made of his tactics in the

:05:58.:06:01.

last few days and what's he going to do? Not really tactics, in the first

:06:02.:06:07.

few days the 400 free didn't go to plan. A great 200 first up. Which

:06:08.:06:13.

will give him confidence for this. We don't know, we don't know the

:06:14.:06:16.

coach and his conversations and we don't know which he is focusing on,

:06:17.:06:20.

they are completely different events and he also has the 200 butterfly

:06:21.:06:24.

and the relay. Who knows what he will focus on but he looked good

:06:25.:06:28.

this morning. The danger for James is in the first semi-final, you want

:06:29.:06:31.

to be in the second one so you know what the others have done before so

:06:32.:06:38.

he is in the danger of waiting to see whether he has scraped through

:06:39.:06:41.

to the final. A horrible position to be in. He needs to finish in the top

:06:42.:06:44.

three to be in with a shout of getting to the final because I think

:06:45.:06:48.

the second final is jampacked. Interestingly it was the other way

:06:49.:06:51.

round this morning, he went out last Sony camera lacks a bit. Heat said

:06:52.:06:59.

to Sharon after the heats -- so he camera lacks a bit. He looked a lot

:07:00.:07:06.

lighter and like he can relax -- so he can relax a bit. Next you wake up

:07:07.:07:11.

and you feel really good and it can be as simple as that, dynamics

:07:12.:07:16.

change so quickly. Last night his 400 freestyle wasn't that bad but it

:07:17.:07:20.

wasn't what he thought it would be and it didn't seem as easy. The 200

:07:21.:07:24.

is probably where he might have been focusing more of his training but

:07:25.:07:27.

hopefully he can scrape through. Tonight is all about making the

:07:28.:07:31.

final tomorrow. He just has to make it through. He doesn't have to win

:07:32.:07:35.

but just make it through to the final. Let's talk about Sun Yang, he

:07:36.:07:43.

served a three-month ban, very controversial, the roll of the eyes

:07:44.:07:46.

says it all. You're welcome to have an opinion, Sun Yang served a

:07:47.:07:48.

three-month ban, he's very controversial out of the pool, has

:07:49.:07:52.

there been a spat with macro horton, has he been getting involved in

:07:53.:07:59.

chaos and arguments? Does he looked distracted, will he be put off his

:08:00.:08:02.

stride? I don't think he is distracted. In the 400 metres he got

:08:03.:08:07.

a really quick swim. He's getting on and doing his thing. All of the

:08:08.:08:12.

athletes and swimmers want a clean sport and the only thing to do to

:08:13.:08:16.

clean it up is if the world governing body says if you do wrong

:08:17.:08:20.

then you're out for life. Until that happens people will try it on and

:08:21.:08:24.

they will do it again. We will have plenty of time to talk about that

:08:25.:08:28.

over the next couple of days. Let's see how James gets on, the

:08:29.:08:30.

semifinals of the men's 200 free. COMMENTATOR: James Guy will be in

:08:31.:08:46.

lane three but the fourth fastest qualifier is Verschuren, the

:08:47.:08:49.

European champion from Holland. James Guy, the world champion,

:08:50.:08:54.

British recordholder, he had a go in the 400 free, he attacked it from

:08:55.:08:58.

the start to try to get on the top of the podium but in doing so

:08:59.:09:02.

probably sacrificed the bronze. He found it tough but he is a double

:09:03.:09:10.

world champion. James Guy, a gold in the 200 free at the World

:09:11.:09:12.

Championships when he overtook the Americans at the last breath. Two

:09:13.:09:17.

goal medals in the 200 free at the World Championships. It will be his

:09:18.:09:26.

last in Olympics, Biedermann. I'm not sure that world record is going

:09:27.:09:34.

to go for a long time. Oh my word! Phelps... Michael Phelps, he didn't

:09:35.:09:40.

even get close! Second, you're right. Goodness me! This is going to

:09:41.:09:48.

be a great first semi-final and probably the fastest of the two

:09:49.:09:53.

semi-finals. James Guy in three, bead on, the world record in four.

:09:54.:10:02.

Dwyer, swam a great freestyle yesterday, he got fourth in the 800.

:10:03.:10:08.

And the European champion, Verschuren, in six. Just waiting for

:10:09.:10:21.

the starter. There we go. Four lengths of the pool. First

:10:22.:10:28.

semi-final of the 400 freestyle, European champion James Guy in

:10:29.:10:33.

three. Should be very interesting indeed.

:10:34.:10:42.

Very good reaction to the gun and not bad under water from James Guy,

:10:43.:10:50.

very good start right at the top from the Polish swimmer, and also in

:10:51.:10:54.

lane five from Dwyer from the USA. James Guy working hard down the

:10:55.:10:59.

first 50, really doing well in the Red Hat. He got one of the better

:11:00.:11:03.

starts and James Guy asserting himself as the world champion that

:11:04.:11:11.

he is, taking the race at the top. Stjepanovic going with him. Dwyer in

:11:12.:11:16.

the middle a bit down. This is where we won the race to be. James Guy

:11:17.:11:22.

will want a bit of a margin. He's looking over their Mac in lane two.

:11:23.:11:26.

Looking very good. He looks like he is working it quite hard, really

:11:27.:11:31.

working his legs in three, first to turn at the 100 I think. Not quite.

:11:32.:11:40.

Stjepanovic, the European Championship silver-medallist in

:11:41.:11:44.

two. James Guy is second to turn. Guy is going well but bead on, the

:11:45.:11:49.

world recordholder, one lane closer to us, starting to make his move. --

:11:50.:11:54.

Biedermann. This is where he wants to be, James Guy talks about

:11:55.:11:58.

deferring the 400 but he is best suited to this, the 200 metres. Deep

:11:59.:12:05.

turn, turned over in first place. Now he is looking the right way. He

:12:06.:12:10.

is looking right, dropping off the pace, the two middle guys, Dwyer and

:12:11.:12:17.

Biedermann coming away. Top two will be good enough. He has to be careful

:12:18.:12:20.

because the second semi-final is pretty quick and it is all about

:12:21.:12:24.

times. Looks like it will be Dwyer in the Black hat of the USA. Very

:12:25.:12:32.

close. Yes, he gets it. Dwyer takes the first semi-final, Biedermann

:12:33.:12:35.

second, important touch, James Guy gets third. A lot slower than I

:12:36.:12:43.

thought it would be I've got to say. Really is. A-level bit dangerous for

:12:44.:12:49.

the second semi-final but third... A pretty good place -- a little bit.

:12:50.:12:54.

Better than fourth, if you get five swimmers pastor in the second semi,

:12:55.:12:58.

best to be third at this point rather than fourth. -- faster. James

:12:59.:13:06.

Guy, the European champion, Paul Biedermann, also from Germany. James

:13:07.:13:12.

Guy working hard at the end, finished on three quarters of a

:13:13.:13:16.

stroke and took an extra stroke. Working hard at the end. He put a

:13:17.:13:19.

lot into that race. Not sure how much he's got. Dwyer finished very

:13:20.:13:28.

quickly. Biedermann second. Look how close it is, very important James

:13:29.:13:33.

Guy got that touch, seven 100th ahead of the Polish and 41

:13:34.:13:37.

hundredths ahead of Verschuren. That was close.

:13:38.:13:40.

A world champion in this event but a scrap to get in the Olympic final.

:13:41.:13:48.

You wanted to sing a song, if I had a karaoke machine... Danger Zone.

:13:49.:13:53.

Great to come third but that time he needed to be in the 01:45zone, I

:13:54.:13:58.

worry that the second semi-final will be a really close call. He can

:13:59.:14:03.

only afford five to go faster than him. If six go in he gets ninth and

:14:04.:14:09.

he won't be in the final, Sun Yang is on form and he will be up for

:14:10.:14:14.

this. Chad did a great swim this morning. The Japanese, Michael

:14:15.:14:20.

Phelps, Fraser-Holmes is a decent swimmer. And also Hagino got the

:14:21.:14:34.

gold last night so he will be up for it. It will be so close, we have our

:14:35.:14:40.

fingers crossed. We hope James Guy likes to trace and if he can get

:14:41.:14:45.

into the final anything is possible -- chase. Anything can happen after

:14:46.:14:49.

24 hours. It's not looking as easy as it has done before, that's the

:14:50.:14:54.

thing, but he needs to be in there. He's with Sharon, let's see what

:14:55.:14:56.

James Guy has to say. How did that feel? It was OK. I

:14:57.:15:07.

would have liked to work gone a bit faster. Am not sure what happened.

:15:08.:15:12.

Do we need to hold our breath for the next few minutes? Anything can

:15:13.:15:17.

happen but hopefully I will sneak through. These guys are going very

:15:18.:15:23.

fast and you are the world champion. What sort of time to you think it

:15:24.:15:27.

will take to get amongst the medals? It is a different ball game this

:15:28.:15:36.

year. 145 low, 144 low. It is getting the process right. The first

:15:37.:15:42.

day is a write-off. A lot better in the 400 but hopefully in the final

:15:43.:15:47.

tomorrow night. Do you think you have been working more on your swim

:15:48.:15:53.

work because of the 200 and the fly? Not really. I like the 400, paid off

:15:54.:15:59.

the 200. Try to do the same thing here and it is OK. Our fingers and

:16:00.:16:05.

toes are crossed. Fingers and toes are indeed crossed. It was still

:16:06.:16:13.

pretty good James, but it is such a stacked field. What does he need to

:16:14.:16:18.

do now if he gets the final? I think he needs to rest. Do not come down,

:16:19.:16:24.

do not have a swim in the morning. He seems a bit tired. He needs to

:16:25.:16:29.

totally recover and give it his all tomorrow night. He does look a

:16:30.:16:34.

little bit tired and stressed that the situation. The Olympics is the

:16:35.:16:40.

Olympics. He came in as world champion but that was a shock to us.

:16:41.:16:46.

Not that he is not any good. But he came in under the radar. Sometimes

:16:47.:16:53.

it can affect you in different ways. It is a pressure melting pot. Go

:16:54.:16:58.

back, put your head down, tomorrow is another race. A member of our

:16:59.:17:05.

team at who is closest to be swimmers is Sharron Davies. Lots of

:17:06.:17:20.

talk about the way sun Yang. Last summer when we had the World

:17:21.:17:25.

Championships he was not the flavour of the month. He hit one of the

:17:26.:17:30.

girls in training and there was an official complaint and it was due to

:17:31.:17:37.

appear in the 1500 and he did not turn up and that is not heard of.

:17:38.:17:42.

Someone could have swum that race. At the end he was given the swimmer

:17:43.:17:47.

of the meet which did not go down well with the rest of the swimmers

:17:48.:17:52.

in Nepal. He has been done for drugs, had to survey suspension and

:17:53.:17:54.

we didn't know about that until after he was given it and he also

:17:55.:18:00.

served time in prison for the driving so not my favourite person.

:18:01.:18:04.

I do not think you are alone in that opinion. Take us through this one. A

:18:05.:18:19.

place in the final? There is Bertrand, didn't know he had all of

:18:20.:18:24.

those names, world champion and this guy, well, he is a menace, sun Yang.

:18:25.:18:44.

This will be an interesting semi-final. Not that quick, James

:18:45.:18:50.

Guy was third. It would be highly unusual for seven of the swimmers,

:18:51.:18:55.

six of the swimmers to beat that time. It is certainly possible. The

:18:56.:19:08.

third fastest. Fraser homes from Australia. USA in three. Yang for

:19:09.:19:27.

China. Le Clos. After the final last night, brilliant swim, a bit rusty

:19:28.:19:30.

in the beginning and came through strong. Le Clos out like a rocket,

:19:31.:19:33.

died off. Second semi-final of the men's 200

:19:34.:19:49.

metre freestyle. Amazing start. If you stop the race right now it is on

:19:50.:19:54.

the start, look at that, must be nearly a second. Le Clos is a

:19:55.:20:00.

brilliant fly swimmer and when you use the kick to the advantage this

:20:01.:20:06.

is what happens. He did this in the morning heat. A big kick. You have

:20:07.:20:12.

to take a big breath to stay under. A bit of a downside to it. He is a

:20:13.:20:20.

length ahead and the rest of the field will start to wind him in. You

:20:21.:20:25.

saw this in the heat. After 60 metres he is a body ahead of Yang in

:20:26.:20:31.

lane four, the fastest qualifier. World Championship silver-medallist.

:20:32.:20:36.

He goes a bit deeper. Five kicks underwater. Le Clos first. A slow

:20:37.:20:44.

straight to the right, the black cap, slower than two. Yang coming

:20:45.:20:52.

level with Le Clos. I think Le Clos will have to watch himself. He

:20:53.:20:56.

stroke is getting ropey. He is a fighter. He would dig in and fight.

:20:57.:21:03.

50 metres to go, this is going to hurt for Le Clos. He has gone far

:21:04.:21:08.

too fast. He is looking at Yang. He is having a go, well done for that.

:21:09.:21:14.

Yang starting to go and he looks very good indeed. Look at that. Le

:21:15.:21:19.

Clos took almost a body length of Yang in the first 15 and now Yang

:21:20.:21:27.

has done the same to Le Clos. The time, it is OK, not that great.

:21:28.:21:34.

Hagino was second and the Russian was third. Yang dominating. That

:21:35.:21:49.

particular race. At least his heart problem is better. I tell you what

:21:50.:21:55.

was happening there. James Guy has made it in by one 100th of a second.

:21:56.:22:01.

That was an important third place. Wasn't it just. Fraser homes has

:22:02.:22:07.

come sixth in this. Missed out by one 100th. This is the start. Le

:22:08.:22:18.

Clos went out very strongly. I am reeling a it from that. We have seen

:22:19.:22:31.

two races, tonight and this morning. Only 24 more hours before the

:22:32.:22:41.

qualifiers will get to go again. He waited until the final term. I am a

:22:42.:22:50.

bit worried. I am not sure he will be able to get it. Who is going to

:22:51.:22:59.

get Yang, who is going to catch him. He is going to go a second ahead of

:23:00.:23:09.

Hagino. You lined me up for that one, you did. Oh dear. Hundreds of a

:23:10.:23:19.

second count massively. I continue when a second that Yang certainly

:23:20.:23:24.

winning the final, second semi-final. Hagino second.

:23:25.:23:33.

Fraser-Holmes misses by one 100th. James Guy is in. In eighth. He will

:23:34.:23:39.

have a very good lane. He is going to have no messy water at random at

:23:40.:23:45.

all, clean water. He is going to be next in Hagino. He made it into the

:23:46.:23:57.

final by one 100th of a second. But as you said it doesn't matter, it is

:23:58.:24:01.

just about getting into the final. That is all he had to do, just get

:24:02.:24:06.

to the final. He needs to go home and rest. He is sharing a room, an

:24:07.:24:10.

apartment with Adam Peaty. Things might be a bit loud tonight. What

:24:11.:24:16.

would you do, stick around and watch your team become a potential Olympic

:24:17.:24:22.

champion or be out there? They have drug testing, swim down, stretching,

:24:23.:24:26.

physio, they are here for another two hours after we go home to bed.

:24:27.:24:31.

Guarantee he will watch his roommate in the breaststroke. He will do the

:24:32.:24:37.

interviews, have a quick swim. When you are on the team you want to

:24:38.:24:40.

watch your team-mates. Admittedly he needs to rest but he is not going to

:24:41.:24:45.

miss out on that. It is only 57 seconds. How would it have worked in

:24:46.:24:52.

terms of him watching the second semifinals, watching in the

:24:53.:24:54.

background? Definitely. At the end of the line are the back. They have

:24:55.:24:58.

got a screen and will be watching. Back to you Jason. Thank you very

:24:59.:25:06.

much. The reason you are coming back to the studio, I want to show you

:25:07.:25:10.

what is happening in the tennis. Jamie Murray and Andy Murray,

:25:11.:25:12.

unbelievable stuff. What a shot from Murray! He has got

:25:13.:26:27.

exquisite touch. Britain never needed it more than in that point.

:26:28.:26:32.

Look at that. Full stretch a couple of times. With a single hand.

:26:33.:26:35.

Fantastic. 13 apiece. There is going to be a challenge. It

:26:36.:27:04.

Hopefully I can go back and look at what I can improve on. This is your

:47:27.:47:32.

champion. For people who have not been following Adam, talk us through

:47:33.:47:36.

the journey he has been on. It is just incredible. I can remember

:47:37.:47:39.

going on a bike ride with Adam, four years ago and he has gone leaps and

:47:40.:47:46.

bounds. Commonwealth Championships, world records, sports personality,

:47:47.:47:52.

he has had everything thrust upon him and he has gone from strength to

:47:53.:47:57.

strength. I don't think he has lost a race in that time. To come into

:47:58.:48:04.

your first Olympics and have, even if he does not get the gold medal he

:48:05.:48:10.

can be so proud of how he has done yesterday. Get in the world record.

:48:11.:48:16.

It has been a case of blowing away the cobwebs and making the most of

:48:17.:48:20.

it but not for Adam. People getting in touch saying he has been such an

:48:21.:48:27.

inspiration. Adam has been working on his technique, he has been

:48:28.:48:33.

getting better week in and week out. We have moaned and complained that

:48:34.:48:37.

in the past he has given away half a body length at the start. You can't

:48:38.:48:43.

give away one 100th of a second level and half a body length. This

:48:44.:48:48.

is him in the World Championships last year. If you look at him in

:48:49.:48:55.

lane five, he gave half of a length away to Cameron and has to chase all

:48:56.:49:01.

the way down the first and that is quite tiring and it makes your --

:49:02.:49:09.

makes you rush your stroke. You will see a dramatic improvement. He is in

:49:10.:49:18.

the middle, Lane four. Will he have picked it apart... There he is. It

:49:19.:49:23.

is an easy thing to improve. Not that easy but the problem is, when

:49:24.:49:29.

you can see that there is so much to improve by improving one thing. He

:49:30.:49:35.

is trying to be one of the best in the world. I was speaking to his

:49:36.:49:41.

coat earlier on in the year and she is like, I have done everything with

:49:42.:49:45.

him. They have picked apart every part of his stroke. He has been in

:49:46.:49:51.

the gymnasium and is meaningful. He improves by .01 everytime. It has

:49:52.:50:00.

been a stigma for him. He has got frustrated but it has come together

:50:01.:50:04.

at the right time. Whatever they have done has obviously worked. It

:50:05.:50:08.

is doing a number of different things to help him get the perfect

:50:09.:50:13.

start. If you have been doing something wrong, don't continue to

:50:14.:50:17.

practise something that is wrong, you have got to change it. Then

:50:18.:50:24.

things come right. Every little detail they have looked out and

:50:25.:50:27.

starting to get it right and you see the improvements now. Last time they

:50:28.:50:34.

had a champion in de Sareen call was in 1988 and he is in the commentary

:50:35.:50:46.

box. He is way ahead of the rest of the field. He is 1.4, 1.5 seconds

:50:47.:50:52.

ahead coming in and on the day, yesterday and today he is that far

:50:53.:50:57.

ahead. It is his to grasp. He has got to go and get it and that is all

:50:58.:51:02.

that is left. He has got the talent to do it. It was great to listen to

:51:03.:51:11.

his girlfriend talking about, he is thinking about what is left in the

:51:12.:51:16.

tank. I would love to see Great Britain beat the world record. He is

:51:17.:51:21.

in the room getting for his race. It is down to him completely and all we

:51:22.:51:24.

can do is speculate until he finally delivers it. How excited are you? I

:51:25.:51:34.

have to say, it is a funny feeling because I have been commentating for

:51:35.:51:38.

28 years and have never commentated on a British Olympic male medallist.

:51:39.:51:51.

Have had female but not men. 20 years ago I was swimming in Seoul. I

:51:52.:52:03.

think Adam Peaty will be fine if he is mentally OK. Physically he is

:52:04.:52:08.

fine. Sharron Davies has seen him through his hit, how confident

:52:09.:52:13.

argued he will be limping champion? I hate saying it I think he probably

:52:14.:52:22.

stands the best chance of anybody. He has seen Sarah set the world

:52:23.:52:27.

record and he wants to do it again. Thank you. We know she gets very

:52:28.:52:32.

excited so I will enjoy jumping around in the flip-flops. I suspect

:52:33.:52:37.

she will not be the only one. Have fun with this one.

:52:38.:52:45.

Thank you. This is brilliant. Really brilliant. All of a sudden looking

:52:46.:52:53.

forward to this massively. Not least of which, the atmosphere is going to

:52:54.:52:57.

be utterly tremendous because you have just heard the crowd for the

:52:58.:53:02.

slower of the two Brazilians in this race. This is the second, the world

:53:03.:53:16.

short-course champion. He is a big way, has a barrel of a chest. Former

:53:17.:53:34.

Spanish Restorick champion. The crowd is going crazy. Kevin Cordes.

:53:35.:53:41.

This is set up for Adam Peaty of Britain. From Japan, Lane number

:53:42.:53:49.

six. The fourth fastest qualifier. And then the former world record

:53:50.:53:53.

holder, it used to be his and now it is Adam Peaty's he has destroyed by

:53:54.:53:57.

almost a second. Can he get close to? The Japanese guy has just gone

:53:58.:54:05.

out of the shot. He has been swimming really well. He will be

:54:06.:54:20.

after the gun. Cody Miller, the faster of the two Americans. The

:54:21.:54:31.

world champion, European champion, he needs this to join the most

:54:32.:54:41.

exclusive club in the world. Olympic history, Great Britain have won 15

:54:42.:54:45.

Olympics in golds. Can Adam Peaty win our 16th? -- 15 Olympic golds.

:54:46.:55:02.

You stand on the block, look down the lane and imagine what will

:55:03.:55:08.

happen next. You have got control of the dive.

:55:09.:55:13.

It is about getting a world-class dive. He has been working on it for

:55:14.:55:20.

at least a year. Enter the stroke and go. The atmosphere is fantastic.

:55:21.:55:28.

The Brazilian commentators are going nuts. I hope he quietened down in a

:55:29.:55:36.

second. Olympic final. Men's 100 metre breaststroke. Adam Peaty the

:55:37.:55:42.

world record holder in four, the red hat of Great Britain.

:55:52.:56:02.

:57:26.:57:35.

I remember a similar picture of you doing exactly that, gold medal in

the 100 metre breaststroke. It has been 28 years we have been waiting

:57:40.:57:44.

for it and Adam Peaty, a massive world record, he has won the race by

:57:45.:57:52.

1.5 seconds. Phenomenal. He has been working on his dive. We will get the

:00:05.:00:15.

felt the most of the race you were waving him.

:00:16.:00:23.

Bowe Bergdahl is catching him up! No, it is close. I think, no, it

:00:24.:00:28.

doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Then he just went. Over the years,

:00:29.:00:33.

how does this compare? Yes, he is Olympic champion. Yes, he is world

:00:34.:00:38.

record holder, woirn, European champion. We think - he's gone to

:00:39.:00:43.

you want to speak to them, by all means speak to them. The whole

:00:58.:01:02.

nation is watching you. Yeah. So surreal to get Team GB's first gold.

:01:03.:01:06.

This is a product of seven years of work, as I said the other day. I

:01:07.:01:11.

came out tonight, teed up the first 50 easy, and came back with

:01:12.:01:15.

everything I have got. It isn't everything, it it's... Everything I

:01:16.:01:18.

have done the past few years. More importantly I did it for my country.

:01:19.:01:22.

It means so much. Talk about your team. You guys have been a couple

:01:23.:01:25.

for a long time. She's worked very hard with you. She's had her own

:01:26.:01:30.

disappointments. Right now she doesn't care one iota about those. I

:01:31.:01:35.

am not just saying it, she is one of the best coaches, not because she

:01:36.:01:39.

ends me up and down the pool, but she understands the athletes, the

:01:40.:01:43.

need and character, and understands everyone is different. Tonight she

:01:44.:01:46.

didn't have to get my pumped up, because I knew the arena would be

:01:47.:01:52.

absolutely perfect for me. The 50, I am waiting, I am getting an Olympic

:01:53.:01:56.

:02:15.:02:23.

down at the next final. At establish medal hope. The it will be awfully

:02:47.:02:54.

:02:55.:03:00.

slower start. An April and 800m freestyler. I would suggest she

:03:01.:03:08.

needs to move away from Katy Ledecky. You are right. She has to

:03:09.:03:14.

settle into her own rhythm, does Jazz Carlin. She needs let Katy

:03:15.:03:25.

Ledecky do what she has to do. 2 is going well, Canada. You have Carlin,

:03:26.:03:35.

second in the European champions. Ledecky doing what we saw... Not the

:03:36.:03:43.

400. That is only 100 done. She is 0.82 under world record. When she

:03:44.:03:48.

did the world record, she put in a couple of 60s. 60hunt 5 and 4.

:03:49.:03:54.

Ledecky well ahead of world record pace. Jazz Carlin has an awesome

chance of a silver medal. I can't tell you enough about that. A great

:03:59.:04:03.

chance. She started well. She doesn't normally start so quick.

:04:04.:04:08.

Third at the 100, Jazz Carlin. Red hat in the centre. All about Ledecky

:04:09.:04:14.

and how much she will break her own world record by. Going well up in 2

is the Canadian. Canada have a good meet. First Katy Ledecky, third

:04:22.:04:27.

still Jazz Carlin. Jazz does look good. If you look at the line,

:04:28.:04:32.

Carlin has established a second place. Keep an eye out on Smith in

:04:33.:04:39.

lane 3, very similar, a 23-year-old from the University of Virginia. Her

:04:40.:04:44.

best time is 4 minutes. Smith has a strong, strong second 100. 1.19

:04:45.:04:51.

under world record. Ledecky watched a couple go. Just past the halfway.

:04:52.:05:02.

Ledecky, streets ahead. The great news for Great Britain - she is in

:05:03.:05:07.

second place is Jazz Carlin, the Commonwealth champion of the 800m

:05:08.:05:12.

freestyle. This is the 400 so she should have stamina. Jazz Carlin is

:05:13.:05:16.

looking great, starting to swim away for the ris for the silver, bronze,

major meets before, seen Adam Peaty get the gold medal. She's sometimes

gets nervous and got rid of that this morning. She said she felt good

:05:38.:05:40.

after the heats. She is in a great position. Watch, he is chasing

:05:41.:05:50.

close! Not sure if she will catch Katy Ledecky. 80m to go. Ledecky -

:05:51.:06:00.

it is just how much she breaks her own world record by. The computer

:06:01.:06:04.

generated line right on her feet. Great news for Great Britain - Wales

:06:05.:06:08.

Jazz Carlin in silver medal position. Holding well, but charging

:06:09.:06:17.

is Smith of the USA in 3. Smith finishes strongly.

:06:18.:06:19.

CHEERING . Jazz Carlin has to deep dip. A

:06:20.:06:26.

brilliant Olympic gold medallist, Katy Ledecky. She's world champion

:06:27.:06:31.

in 200, 400, 800 and 1500. Katy Ledecky of the US is going to

:06:32.:06:36.

obliterate her world record! She is going to probably come 5.56. Look at

:06:37.:06:42.

this! The world champion becomes the Olympic champion! It is Ledecky, the

:06:43.:06:47.

silver to Jazz Carlin! Wonderful! Silver medal for Great Britain! An

:06:48.:06:52.

April and swim. A lifetime best! Well done Jazz! Silver ploek med

:06:53.:06:56.

natural the 400 freestyle! Brilliant. I tell you what - some

:06:57.:07:06.

supertives required! Good job we are near the ceiling. We are near the

:07:07.:07:12.

roof. A brilliant swim. Smith is going 3.56! Wow! Jazz Carlin

:07:13.:07:19.

delivered a strong swim there. She couldn't have done more. She hasn't

:07:20.:07:24.

put a foot wrong in this meet, Jazz Carlin. I am really impressed. Most

:07:25.:07:28.

impressed, how she dealt with it mentally. It's not easy to come in

:07:29.:07:32.

the Olympic final and be placed in a medal position and deal with it.

:07:33.:07:36.

Certainly next to a superstar like Ledecky. She's just dealt with it so

:07:37.:07:41.

well! Silver! I think she dealt with the first 100m well. You see here,

:07:42.:07:45.

Ledecky had the full body length at 100m. Not sure if this is where

:07:46.:07:52.

it... This is the 100m turn. Ledecky already had a lead. For Carlin to

:07:53.:07:59.

say, "I will stick to my pace, control way can control." The

:08:00.:08:04.

challenge is also holding off Smith. She knows Smith is a strong fin

:08:05.:08:08.

near. I saw her breathing to the right. She dug in, I think, and

:08:09.:08:12.

decided not to look at Smith. Good half a body length ahead.

:08:13.:08:15.

CHEERING 7-10ths of a second she won the

:08:16.:08:19.

silver by. Not a small margin at all. Wow! Well done Jazz Carlin!

:08:20.:08:28.

David McNuttily, her coach, brilliant! The race from the gun, it

:08:29.:08:32.

was all about Ledecky. I am sure he will go on and wind the 800. Could

:08:33.:08:38.

even win the 200 as well. It is world record and Olympic champion

:08:39.:08:43.

for Katy Ledecky of the US. Jazz Carlin, a brilliant silver. Leah

:08:44.:08:51.

Smith, the bronze for the USA. Incredible! Silver. Brilliant scenes

:08:52.:08:57.

in the pool, because we have already had one gold medal, congratulations

:08:58.:09:02.

team Peaty. This is only one part. Have your legs stopped staking yet?

:09:03.:09:07.

Just act! I suspect the tears will start again, because we are getting

:09:08.:09:11.

ready tore the Medal Ceremony. Guys hang here. Enjoy the moment. Nanna

:09:12.:09:18.

Mavis, if you are all right, let us know because they are worried that

:09:19.:09:25.

you have got over exited! Enjoy. Let's chat about Jazz Carlin. Dault

:09:26.:09:30.

they have been crying for Adam, crying for Jazz. I asked Becky to

:09:31.:09:33.

marry me! LAUGHTER

:09:34.:09:37.

Jazz Carlin - how impressive was that? She wait sod long to be at the

:09:38.:09:43.

Games to get that medal - she wasn't believe it! I am going to start

:09:44.:09:49.

crying again. So, so, pleased for Adam. Does deserve it. I can't

:09:50.:09:52.

imagine anyone deserving it more than Adam. Then for Jazz, she would

:09:53.:09:56.

have got pumped in that room seeing that race. She came out there, swam

:09:57.:10:00.

her own race next to one who is miles ahead, breaking that world

:10:01.:10:04.

record, which was incredible. She swam her own race. Did it

:10:05.:10:09.

brilliantly. So controlled. She looked so smooth. That was a Welsh

:10:10.:10:14.

record. A huge PB! So, so, pleases she had the silver medal. Deserves

:10:15.:10:19.

it. Been there so much over the past few years. I am starting to cry! She

:10:20.:10:23.

entered the water - Mark, you started to scream because you were

:10:24.:10:28.

like, "That is good." She hasn't got any speed. She has! She has now!

:10:29.:10:33.

Yeah. We see her normally... She paces at the back and tries to come

:10:34.:10:37.

back on people. We knew Ledecky was going to be gone. You knew she was

:10:38.:10:43.

going to do that. It was going - the silver was going to be her gold.

:10:44.:10:48.

That was a huge swim. She had to keep composed. She was like still at

:10:49.:10:54.

the lane going like this. Did that just happen! The other day she said,

:10:55.:10:59.

"I can't believe I am here." I was like, "No, you belong at the Olympic

:11:00.:11:03.

Games." We can hear from Jazz Carlin because she is with Sharyn now. I

:11:04.:11:08.

know! Congratulations, darling. I am so pleased for you! I can't believe

:11:09.:11:14.

it. I am on the edge of tears, because it isn't really sunk in at

:11:15.:11:18.

all. I knew it was going to be a tough race. Katie breaking the world

:11:19.:11:21.

record, trying to stick to her and have a great race. I didn't want to

:11:22.:11:26.

be stuck at the back, trying to chase for the model -- medals. I

:11:27.:11:30.

can't believe the time! I'm so happy!

:11:31.:11:31.

LAUGHTER Cool and Clive Palmer and collected.

:11:32.:11:36.

This has been a long time coming. Tell me about how disappointed you

:11:37.:11:41.

were four years ago and how hard you worked in between. Obviously four

:11:42.:11:46.

years ago I was sat in the aquatic stadium, watching from the

:11:47.:11:49.

sidelines, cheering. This time I am in the pool and won a medal. I

:11:50.:11:53.

watched Adam break the world record and win the gold. That was a special

:11:54.:11:58.

feeling. I now I had to try to stay relaxed and calm. To come away with

:11:59.:12:02.

a smile very - I am gobsmacked! Speechless! So pleased for you.

:12:03.:12:05.

Congratulations. Thank you so much! LAUGHTER

:12:06.:12:09.

Huge congratulations Jazz Carlin. Lessee if success can bread success.

:12:10.:12:15.

Walker goes in the semifinal of the mens 100m backstroke. China with the

:12:16.:12:28.

yellow hat. Murphy of the US in five. First semifinal of the men's

:12:29.:12:31.

100 backstroke. On rain Shane of Ireland is in 1. A

:12:32.:12:44.

new Irish record holder. He is going well at the top.

:12:45.:12:55.

25:50, the turn. Murphy is trying to stay with him. A good underwater

:12:56.:13:03.

turn from the American. Using all the 15... The quality of these two

:13:04.:13:07.

is starting to show. The good guys making a massive difference. Hard to

:13:08.:13:11.

make it up for the rest of the world. Great Britain is going well.

:13:12.:13:14.

Possible in fifth. Maybe starting to spin a little up there in lane 2.

:13:15.:13:19.

She is going to have to work to make the final. Off the world record

:13:20.:13:23.

pace. First to finish here is Murphy of the US. Second is Xu. Rylov

:13:24.:13:31.

third. Great Britain was sixth. I don't think that is going to be good

:13:32.:13:40.

enough for the final. Murphy swam well. 53:0s in the heats this

:13:41.:13:45.

morning. That didn't look great. A bit of cat and mouse. Interesting.

:13:46.:13:50.

Walker having a disappointed time. Look at lane 1. Over the lane rope

:13:51.:13:55.

on the left of the screen. Did an extra metre underwater. I think

:13:56.:14:00.

Murphy, strong towards the end. Xu took the race out. Murphy blading.

:14:01.:14:07.

Nice big old glide.n't arm stroke ahead. I think we will struggle with

:14:08.:14:11.

sixth. Yeah. I don't think he will make it to the second semi. Not just

:14:12.:14:16.

the 100 break stroke. This is important for the medry. With Great

:14:17.:14:20.

Britain's Adam Peaty so far ahead of the rest of the world, if we can get

:14:21.:14:25.

Chris up for that final, hopefully into the final of the men's 4 x 400,

:14:26.:14:29.

then you have Peaty tonne breaststroke. We could be leading at

:14:30.:14:31.

halfway! That would be a strong race! Peaty will take a lot out of

:14:32.:14:38.

the rest of the field. You do need Chris to get among it. Peaty can

:14:39.:14:39.

deal with the second, sisters, the Murray brothers.

:14:40.:15:50.

Sensational victory for the man from Argentina absolutely brilliant. Just

:15:51.:15:57.

take a look at these pictures of Novak Djokovic visibly emotional.

:15:58.:16:03.

Also suffered a premature exit at Wimbledon last month. He boughs out

:16:04.:16:07.

of the Olympics at the first hurdle. Really wanted this gold-medal. Juan

:16:08.:16:15.

Martin del Potro played absolutely brilliantly tonight. Look at that.

:16:16.:16:19.

That is what it means to knock out the world number one. Look at the

:16:20.:16:22.

pictures of Novak Djokovic. Absolutely heartbroken is the

:16:23.:16:29.

Serbian. Meanwhile there are maybe two years come in the next couple of

:16:30.:16:35.

days because Brazil are goalless against Iraq. This is available on

:16:36.:16:39.

the Red Button. They have not scored a goal yet in the tournament, the

:16:40.:16:45.

men's football, 0-0 against South Africa a few days ago. Neymar is

:16:46.:16:51.

looking really rattled. The Iraqis have got stuck into him. Kicking the

:16:52.:16:59.

ball at the Iraqi. Looking pretty angry, isn't he? There we are. If

:17:00.:17:04.

you want some football it is available on the Red Button. We go

:17:05.:17:08.

back to the swimming pool. I am delighted for Adam Peaty, gold-medal

:17:09.:17:13.

and allow me celebration for Jazz Carlin of Wales. We will all be down

:17:14.:17:22.

thing. What an unbelievable night. Jazz Carlin, phenomenal silver

:17:23.:17:27.

medal. Adam Peaty, Olivia champion, world record holder. -- Olympic

:17:28.:17:38.

champion. Take us through it. We are joined by the Romanian. Probably

heard the raw. The 29 Euroa, probation for him there is Josh

:17:50.:18:01.

Beaver from Australia. David Plummer of the USA. 30 years of age. The

average age is going up in world swimming. This guy, gold-medal

:18:08.:18:16.

tomorrow night? Mitch Larkin stunned with a double gold medal. 23 years

:18:17.:18:29.

of age. I was impressed with Lacourt. Coming back very strongly

:18:30.:18:34.

and look, he has got a beautiful technique. Quite a handsome chap as

:18:35.:18:49.

well. All flustered. LAUGHTER He is a great looking chap and a good

:18:50.:19:01.

bracts -- backstroker. He could be a real spoiler. Not too many people

:19:02.:19:06.

talking about him for gold. The French commentators were saying he

:19:07.:19:13.

looked very comfortable indeed. Fastest qualifier in the heats

:19:14.:19:17.

through to the semis. The German in eight.

:19:18.:19:31.

Lacourt and Larkin and I think Larkin may turn it up. Interesting

:19:32.:19:39.

to watch him in the heats this morning. Working very hard. Turnover

:19:40.:19:50.

was quick, bashing around. Favourite for the 200 backstroke certainly and

:19:51.:19:55.

could win the 100 and 200. A little shelf for his feet. Just hangs off

:19:56.:20:04.

the blocks. You see the little white tape holding it. Put your feet on so

:20:05.:20:11.

they don't it. Second semi-final 100 men's backstroke.

:20:12.:20:16.

The Aussies in five and six. Mitch Larkin and the fastest qualifier,

:20:17.:20:25.

Lacourt from France in four. All eyes straightaway and Lacourt in

:20:26.:20:41.

Lane four. Going out quite strongly. Plummer. The world record,

:20:42.:20:52.

Pearson's. The mornings and was quite slow but the record from 2009.

:20:53.:21:01.

-- the morning was quite slow. This is very quick indeed and Plummer is

:21:02.:21:04.

on the lane line and it will be really close. Maybe Plummer, maybe

:21:05.:21:15.

Lacourt. Larkin came through as well under 52.7. That is going to be a

:21:16.:21:21.

wonderful final. One of those guys tomorrow night will not get a medal.

:21:22.:21:25.

Can you imagine going 52.7 not getting a medal at the Olympics?

:21:26.:21:31.

Plummer needs to get away from the lane line in the last 15 metres.

:21:32.:21:39.

Good reactions there from lane seven. Even pointing the toes.

:21:40.:21:48.

Streamlined everywhere, the swimmers. Neymar to turnout was

:21:49.:22:04.

brilliant. -- Lacourt's turnout. We thought he had got in for second.

:22:05.:22:13.

Larkin gliding. Lacourt a bit far out before he made his jump. There

:22:14.:22:21.

is the winner of the second semi-final of the 100 metre men's

:22:22.:22:26.

backstroke, David Plummer from the USA. Ninth in the World

:22:49.:23:16.

final of that one but what a phenomenally evening. If you haven't

:23:17.:23:19.

been with us in the last half an hour you are a fool. We have seen

:23:20.:23:25.

Adam Peaty crowned Olympic champion. Mark Foster is getting emotional.

:23:26.:23:29.

Talk us through this brilliant moment in British swimming.

:23:30.:23:34.

Everything went right. He has had a problem with his start in the last

:23:35.:23:37.

few years. He has worked tirelessly and we thought he wasn't getting

:23:38.:23:42.

anywhere 34 months ago but everything came right. 26 .6 hour on

:23:43.:23:46.

the first leg. All of a sudden he is leading. At 25

:23:47.:23:57.

metres I kind of new and to win by 1.5 seconds, break the world

:23:58.:24:07.

record... For Adam at the world records last year he was chasing all

:24:08.:24:10.

the way but this is a different story. He led from the get go. His

:24:11.:24:14.

stroke and power, when you look at him technically is just incredible.

:24:15.:24:19.

Especially the underwater shot. It shows how powerful his legs are. I

:24:20.:24:22.

thought he was tightening up a bit at the end. Getting overexcited! And

:24:23.:24:29.

smashed the world record again by that much. He likes to break it in

:24:30.:24:38.

big chunks. Physiologically he is an absolute beast. That guy has got

:24:39.:24:45.

everything. Mentally he is a young man to be proud of. Andy Jamieson,

:24:46.:24:53.

Adrian take us through the medal ceremony for Adam Peaty. Thank you,

:24:54.:24:59.

Helen, I will do my best. Emotions flying everywhere. This is wonderful

:25:00.:25:03.

to see. What a night for British swimming. Knights number two of the

:25:04.:25:12.

Rio Olympic Games. -- it is night number two. The gold and silver

:25:13.:25:17.

tonight. In 2012 it was a silver and two bronzes. The gold medal for Adam

:25:18.:25:27.

Peaty and of course, Jazz Carlin, silver and probably her second-best

:25:28.:25:32.

event because the 800 free is the best surely. Absolutely. Looking

:25:33.:25:39.

forward to seeing Jazz on the podium.

:25:40.:25:47.

Quite a few supporters of the British flag behind him. It is a

:25:48.:26:01.

very tight arena this one. The bronze medal on the men's 100 metre

:26:02.:26:12.

breast it goes to Kevin sorry, to the USA. Born in Las Vegas. Night at

:26:13.:26:21.

the World Championships last year and now the bronze, Corey Miller. A

:26:22.:26:31.

new American record, 58.87. Miller improved every round. Did

:26:32.:26:40.

fantastically well. The new American record. What did Adam Peaty do?

:26:41.:26:52.

Absolutely brilliant. 57.1 three. He was Olympic champion four years ago

:26:53.:26:54.

in London and that was wonderful and now it is silver for Cameron van der

:26:55.:26:59.

Burgh from South Africa. It was a good swim. Just outside his lifetime

:27:00.:27:05.

best. The old world record. Now it is looking a very old world record

:27:06.:27:14.

indeed, what Adam Peaty has done to it. The Union Jack has been draped

:27:15.:27:19.

over either side of Adam Peaty. He is looking up to his left. He's a

:27:20.:27:28.

good guy, Cameron van der Burgh. Not his time now. Get the silver and

:27:29.:27:43.

very deserving Olympic champion. Wonderful moment. Olympic champion.

:27:44.:27:49.

Great Britain's Adam Peaty. A new world record in doing so. The time

:27:50.:27:57.

57.1 three. Utterly destroyed the world record and the fastest field

:27:58.:28:04.

in history. Clearwater between him and the silver and bronze

:28:05.:28:09.

medallists. Great Britain's Adam Peaty wins gold in the 100

:28:10.:28:19.

breaststroke. He joins an exclusive club as well. Olympic champion men's

:28:20.:28:27.

100 metre breaststroke, Adam Peaty. There is his family! Adam Peaty,

:28:28.:29:28.

Olympic champion, men's 100m brees stroker. 57-1. The way he did it -

:29:29.:29:33.

took it out from the start. 0. 6 of a second ahead at the 50m. Won by a

:29:34.:29:44.

streak, a # 1.5 seconds. An Olympic champion. Cool as a cucumber. All

:29:45.:29:49.

way through to receiving the gold medal around his neck. It is a

:29:50.:30:02.

wonderful sight! I am very proud to be here comment stating on this --

:30:03.:30:05.

commentating on this. The tradition carries on. Great that he could get

:30:06.:30:12.

Britain's first gold medal. And great his parents could be here to

:30:13.:30:19.

see it as well. There we go! What a great shot!

:30:20.:30:21.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE What a fantastic shot! Walking, his

:30:22.:30:32.

parents, the people who have supported him all the way through.

:30:33.:30:38.

It is interesting. I once had a conversation with my dad over a pint

:30:39.:30:46.

about how it felt, when he was in the same place. He said he felt

:30:47.:30:50.

helpless actually. But very proud. It is an interesting moment for a

:30:51.:30:58.

parent. To give your child the opportunity to sacrifice and to give

:30:59.:31:01.

them things you might not have had, but to put them in a position to

:31:02.:31:06.

enjoy this moment... It is wonderful to see. He enjoys the parade around

:31:07.:31:13.

the deck with the Union flag. Wonderful!

:31:14.:31:24.

Brilliant scenes! Britain's first medal of the Olympics! It's gold! It

:31:25.:31:33.

was done in style. Adam Peaty set a new world record in the 100m

:31:34.:31:39.

breaststroke. He isn't the only British swimmer to be on the podium.

:31:40.:31:43.

Stick with us because Jazz Carlin has won herself a silver medal!

:31:44.:31:48.

Guys, what a phenomenonal evening! Incredible! We keep shouting at Adam

:31:49.:31:53.

to come up and give his mum and dad a hug. If you hear us screaming that

:31:54.:31:57.

is why. We want them to relish in the moment. His mum and dad are in

:31:58.:32:01.

floods of tears. Rightly so. Amazing! I am so, so pleased.

:32:02.:32:06.

Everybody is in floods of tears. We are all feeling it. It is such an

:32:07.:32:10.

hand and privilege to see someone do that. But, also, a lot of questions

:32:11.:32:15.

are being asked of swimmers. He is a brilliant role model. All of us,

:32:16.:32:19.

when you start out in your career or you are inspired to take up a sport,

:32:20.:32:24.

the pinnacle of your sport is to become an Olympic champion or making

:32:25.:32:28.

the Olympics, first, and then an Olympic champion. I was fortunate

:32:29.:32:34.

enough in my first Olympic Games, to win Andrew Moorhouse. I was younger.

:32:35.:32:42.

Then I got to see Adlington. Then that's the first time I have seen

:32:43.:32:47.

one up here commentating. It is... It dent happen often. Not in

:32:48.:32:52.

Britain. We are not America! That undermines our point. We are going

:32:53.:32:58.

to say the same. Adam's a very... There is only myself and David who

:32:59.:33:05.

have the full set of medals ever! That's Europeans, Commonwealth

:33:06.:33:07.

Games, world championships, and now Olympic. To break a world record at

:33:08.:33:11.

an Olympic Games, I know to strewers they will think it is easy, you

:33:12.:33:14.

should be at your best at the Olympics, but a lot of world records

:33:15.:33:20.

are broken here. I love the look on everyone's faces. Can't stop

:33:21.:33:25.

smiling. I, look lots of you people, have been watching these Games my

:33:26.:33:31.

life, knowing I will never get anywhere near it.

:33:32.:33:34.

LAUGHTER You have done all sorts of crazy

:33:35.:33:37.

stuff. Paddled the Amazon, or something like that! Adam Peaty, not

:33:38.:33:43.

the only one fob b -- to be on the podium. Jazz Carlin! Incredible. The

:33:44.:33:49.

race was phenomenal. Katy Ledecky out there. You have to give credit

:33:50.:33:54.

to Katy. To go a 3.56 is insane! Like, you can't even put that into

:33:55.:33:58.

words. I think last time the Olympics in London was one in about

:33:59.:34:02.

4 minutes. The fact she's dropped such a huge chunk. For Jazz, to

:34:03.:34:08.

stick to her plan, to go with her lane, ignore what Ledecky was doing

:34:09.:34:12.

and to do a huge personal best - so pleased for her. They are going to

:34:13.:34:16.

be absolutely crazy! (LAUGHTER)

:34:17.:34:21.

The mayor's been encouraging everybody to back Adam and support

:34:22.:34:25.

him and people have got behind him, rightly so. In Repton there is a

:34:26.:34:34.

family celebration. Other Olympians. Greig Rutherford is staying up late.

:34:35.:34:38.

Take a bow, Adam Peaty! You beauty. In a class of his own. The most

:34:39.:34:47.

important one - Team Peaty - Nan have # -- Nanna Mavis is fine! She

:34:48.:34:53.

is hosting a house full of reporters and was worried about what food to

:34:54.:34:57.

give them. She is such a down tor earth boy. Grounded. Not from a

:34:58.:35:02.

swimming family. His mum stood here and said, "I don't know where he

:35:03.:35:09.

gets it." The fact he still swum at the club, even at his world records,

:35:10.:35:13.

lives at home with mum and dad. Shows a local person, swimming in

:35:14.:35:17.

their club, that loves swimming and works hard can be on the podium. You

:35:18.:35:23.

have to look at it also. People look at Olympic champions and let's look

:35:24.:35:29.

at Usain Bolt, they look at him as a God, as someone they can't aspire to

:35:30.:35:34.

be. It shows someone from a local pool, training in a local pool, with

:35:35.:35:40.

down tor earth facilitys with achieve great things. Sometimes, in

:35:41.:35:44.

my job, it is easy to make wishy washy statements and say, "There is

:35:45.:35:48.

a legacy and he is an inspiration." That isn't a loose statement. I have

:35:49.:35:51.

messages from dads and mum whose said their kids have been to his

:35:52.:35:59.

swim camps and they love him! He is a great -- with great respect to

:36:00.:36:06.

you, when people achieve sport. When you have a good breaststroke you

:36:07.:36:12.

have someone to aspire. We have had good distance swimmers. Becky, as

:36:13.:36:18.

left a legacy for other people. Jazz has... You try to be the best. That

:36:19.:36:23.

person gives up. Then you are one of the best. You are - we are not

:36:24.:36:27.

talking people who are 50th, we are talking world champions and Olympic

:36:28.:36:34.

champions. The swimming hasn't finished yet, all -- although...

:36:35.:36:38.

Calm down. We need to calm down. It's got hot in here all of a

:36:39.:36:43.

sudden. Hopefully success breeds success. Let's see how Georgia

:36:44.:36:47.

Davies gets on. We have Jazz Carlin's Medal Ceremony coming up a

:36:48.:37:00.

bit later on. That was Wilson, the fourth fastest

:37:01.:37:09.

qualifier, of Australia. These two are the fastest qualifiers. Nielsen

:37:10.:37:16.

of Denmark, the European champion on this 100m backstroke. Bronze med

:37:17.:37:21.

Forrest the Worlds -- medallist from the Worlds last year. Emily Seebohm

:37:22.:37:26.

- what can she done? Disappointed not to win the gold four years ago

:37:27.:37:31.

in London. She is now the word champion. I wonder whether she can

:37:32.:37:37.

get close to Great Britain, Spofforth, the world record she set

:37:38.:37:41.

seven years ago. That is a tight record. Not sure whether Seebohm is

:37:42.:37:45.

in that form. We will see. The Olympic record, you saw there. She

:37:46.:37:49.

swam in London, swum the fastest time in the semifinals. Then lost to

:37:50.:37:54.

the gold medal to Missy Franklin. Had plenty of revenge. She's beaten

:37:55.:38:00.

Franklin all the way through. Franklin didn't even qualify for

:38:01.:38:05.

this event. A great opportunity for Seebohm to deliver.

:38:06.:38:15.

Nielsen is in 5. The second Australia, Wilson in 6.

:38:16.:38:25.

3 isn't slow either. Fesikova. The first semifinal of the women's 100m

:38:26.:38:33.

backstroke. Very good start from Smoliga up there in 3. Taking about

:38:34.:38:41.

30-40 centimetres of the rest of the field. Wilson, the 22-year-old

:38:42.:38:47.

Australia, had a good start. You talk about the world record from

:38:48.:38:52.

2009. It was a fast one. I was surprised that the swimmers would

:38:53.:38:58.

get close to it. Very close indeed. 4-100th to the 50m. Still, lane 3,

:38:59.:39:10.

Smoliga from the US. Wilson as well, the Australian. Interesting from the

:39:11.:39:15.

two Australians, because I have to say the 200m backstroke I expected

:39:16.:39:19.

Maddie Wilson to be up there. Look how close this is! Five of them

:39:20.:39:27.

very, very quick. 59:0. Well, not quick but close. 59.3. So important

:39:28.:39:36.

to get to the touch, because that was not a fast semi. Seebohm only

:39:37.:39:43.

third. 59.3. That is very dangerous. Feels like James Guy. There is a

:39:44.:39:48.

spast semi coming -- fast semi coming up after this one. Five of

:39:49.:39:52.

the women are capable of under a minute. Slow reaction to the Burnies

:39:53.:39:58.

guy the Iceland -- reaction to the gun by the Iceland I can girl. I

:39:59.:40:03.

think Wilson opened up a nice gap. She looked strong towards the end.

:40:04.:40:08.

Must have finished the finish, did she? No, not really. You are right.

:40:09.:40:13.

She did look like she was way ahead. That looks four or five... Yes. The

:40:14.:40:19.

arm went in over first, but a bit slowly. All you have to do is

:40:20.:40:24.

qualify. A couple of those are going to be nervous, I think. If the next

:40:25.:40:31.

heat, semifinal, sorry, is... A couple of low 59s, that will be

:40:32.:40:35.

difficult. Wilson wins it. Nielsen second, Seebohm third. I think the

:40:36.:40:41.

one who will be nervous is Fesikova in fifth. The second semifinal

:40:42.:40:45.

featuring Great Britain's Georgia Davies is coming up, but before we

:40:46.:40:50.

get into that let's hear from the new Olympic champion, Adam Peaty,

:40:51.:40:55.

with his new medaled and Sharon. Right. How does it feel to have that

:40:56.:41:02.

around your neck? So much relief. Coming into the meet, I read

:41:03.:41:06.

everywhere, people are saying, "It is going to be a tough only." -

:41:07.:41:11.

whatever. You read everywhere there is a lot of pressure on me. But this

:41:12.:41:18.

proved that presure isn't real, it is a thing in your mind. You almost

:41:19.:41:24.

wants you to top you achieving. Bill said something to me. She said,

:41:25.:41:28.

"Burn the boats and move forward and attack." That got me on to the mind

:41:29.:41:32.

side I needed to do. Going out tonight, I wasn't scared of anyone.

:41:33.:41:37.

It was tunnel vision. Yeah, so happy for British swimming now and happy

:41:38.:41:40.

for Team GB because it's the first gold of the Games. What better to

:41:41.:41:45.

come from swimming! Jazz following behind. You have the full set. What

:41:46.:41:52.

is there in future for you? You are such a young man still. Probably a

:41:53.:41:55.

couple more Olympic Games? Definitely! We have got to refocus

:41:56.:41:59.

now. More importantly we have to relax, but - at the end of the week

:42:00.:42:06.

I have to focus on the rely. The next few days I will relax, keep

:42:07.:42:10.

training, keep my mind right. Do you see yourself as somebody that has

:42:11.:42:14.

chained the attitude of the -- changed the at stood of the British

:42:15.:42:19.

team? I can see that. So surreal I am sitting in this position, talking

:42:20.:42:22.

to you with a gold medal around my neck. This is what you dream of

:42:23.:42:28.

and... Sounds cheesy. Every time you want to quit, go back to bed at

:42:29.:42:33.

4:00am when it is cold, so dark... Those days make it worth it. We were

:42:34.:42:39.

in Australia for two months in January and February. Every day

:42:40.:42:43.

pushed the boundaries. This is what it is for. I pated off. What about

:42:44.:42:50.

Nanny Mavis? She would have been jumping out of her seat. I will go

:42:51.:42:55.

back on Twitter. Stayed off it because I know what this will be

:42:56.:43:00.

like. I want to thank you, thanks, everybody, to - the whole of

:43:01.:43:04.

Britain. My country and the Royal Family and... Everything that makes

:43:05.:43:07.

me proud to be British. Will you get any sleep tonight? Definitely not!

:43:08.:43:10.

LAUGHTER Well done. Cheers. What a proud

:43:11.:43:15.

young man! Thanking the Royal Family. We are proud of you. Becky

:43:16.:43:19.

finds that bizarre, you do what you do...

:43:20.:43:25.

LAUGHTER Let's hope Georgia Davies can adopt his pressure isn't real.

:43:26.:43:30.

She is looking for a place in the final of the 100 backstroke. She is

:43:31.:43:34.

in lane 6. Britain has a fabulous night and there is no reason why she

:43:35.:43:38.

can't make the final. She is right on the cusp. A low 58, and she can

:43:39.:43:46.

be in. Georgia Davies in lane 6. The red hat.

:43:47.:43:52.

. Second semifinal of the women's 100m backstroke. Baker is the

:43:53.:44:01.

fastest from the US. Georgia Davies, not bad down the first 25. Really

:44:02.:44:05.

good actually. Good reaction and good start. She is in the race. She

:44:06.:44:09.

needs to get in the top 3, I think, for me. But right in the middle...

:44:10.:44:18.

Slow first 50 on the world record of Gemmas most of the women dropped

:44:19.:44:23.

off. Under world record split. They weren't able to hold on. Georgia

:44:24.:44:27.

Davies in fifth and moving through. 29.11. Got some work to do.

:44:28.:44:35.

George Davison, it is going to be tight, she has to work down the line

:44:36.:44:48.

but it is Baker at the moment. China going well as well but Baker has got

:44:49.:44:50.

it. Georgia may be outside. This is a

:44:51.:45:07.

lot quicker semi-final. These will be the fastest three in. Wilson was

:45:08.:45:15.

just over 59. Davies will miss it. 10th place unfortunately. It was a

:45:16.:45:21.

fast semi-final. That was the women at the top end. Kathleen Baker, 19,

:45:22.:45:38.

at the University of California, Berkeley. No 58s in the first and

:45:39.:45:47.

three in that one. It was a faster semi. One tenth of of a second. Just

:45:48.:46:02.

looking through the results as you were talking. It was not a great

:46:03.:46:12.

swim for her in the first semi. She has done the job here, Kathleen

:46:13.:46:23.

Baker of the USA. Winning the second semi-final. Three women sub 59 will

:46:24.:46:31.

make it through. Unfortunately Davies is intent.

:46:32.:46:41.

Just missing out. I am devastated. It has been such an amazing night

:46:42.:47:04.

for British swimming. Adam did out of the world and Jazz as well. I

:47:05.:47:08.

really wanted to be able to keep the positive via the rolling but I

:47:09.:47:14.

couldn't do it. I think I had much more after the heat this morning but

:47:15.:47:22.

it wasn't there. Sub 60s you are knocking out regularly and the team

:47:23.:47:25.

will take big positives from tonight. Definitely. Day number two

:47:26.:47:34.

out of an eight day heat. You must be very proud of Howe jazz. So proud

:47:35.:47:43.

of her. I want to give her a massive hug. She deserves it so much. Go and

:47:44.:47:55.

do that, thank you. Hard lines for Georgia Davies. We have seen that

:47:56.:48:03.

with her and Chris tonight. Just off the personal best times. We have had

:48:04.:48:09.

a great night. We will have a look at some of the other British

:48:10.:48:13.

athletes who are not in bed but supporting Adam Peaty. This is in

:48:14.:48:17.

the holding camp. The track and field athletes. They are absolutely

:48:18.:48:24.

loving it. What kind of sex does that have on the athletes? A huge

:48:25.:48:34.

effect. Anyone within Team GB comes together, we support one another. It

:48:35.:48:38.

is that sort of positive affect, if they can do it why can't I do it.

:48:39.:48:45.

You start to get more of a belief and you are part of a team. We spoke

:48:46.:48:49.

about the mighty Adam Peaty and there is the mighty Michael Phelps

:48:50.:48:55.

about to get in the swimming pool for the first time in the Olympics.

:48:56.:49:05.

Four x 100 metre relay. Team USA getting pumped up threat. Every

:49:06.:49:10.

other team was focusing on the individual race. Team USA

:49:11.:49:17.

altogether. No prizes for guessing where this team comes from. Andy. A

:49:18.:49:30.

massive roar, absolutely enormous. Goodness me, that was team Brazil.

:49:31.:49:44.

Sixth fastest qualifier there is team Canada. France only fourth

:49:45.:49:49.

fastest qualifier. They will be number six. This crowd, what they

:49:50.:49:59.

great atmosphere building up now. -- what a. I thought Australia for

:50:00.:50:04.

certain. The Russian Federation swum really well in the heat. Australia

:50:05.:50:11.

are the favourites. They were favourites before the heat. This is

:50:12.:50:21.

interesting. Magnusson didn't really deliver in the heat this morning.

:50:22.:50:25.

Stick him in the middle. The Americans, Michael Phelps. In the

:50:26.:50:39.

middle is the Olympic champion. There is Phelps with his headphones

:50:40.:50:46.

on. Putting it in perspective, Great Britain 's 16th gold medal in the

:50:47.:50:59.

pool. It is such a shame Russia, do not want to see it at the Games but

:51:00.:51:07.

the Federation, world swimming federation have done the Russians no

:51:08.:51:14.

favours at all. Great Britain won the 16th gold medal in Olympic

:51:15.:51:19.

history and Michael Phelps has got 18 on his own.

:51:20.:51:24.

The final of the men's four times 100 relay. Where would you put

:51:25.:51:37.

Michael Phelps? I would probably put him in the middle. I don't think, he

:51:38.:51:45.

is a brilliant summer but Nathan is tough on the back end. Get someone

:51:46.:51:55.

of his talent and calibre to build the lead, I guess I am not sure they

:51:56.:52:04.

will be a big lead in this race. It will be tight all the way through.

:52:05.:52:11.

The starter waiting for some semblance of quiet. Not easy. 15,000

:52:12.:52:13.

people here. A massive roar and a quick start in

:52:14.:52:37.

the centre. Look at the start from the USA. That is outstanding. A heck

:52:38.:52:48.

of an atmosphere, it is making my spine tingle. Everyone in the crowd

:52:49.:52:52.

is on their feet. The only people sitting down are the commentators.

:52:53.:52:58.

Awesome start, Adrian in lane seven and it will only get noisier. This

:52:59.:53:18.

is wonderful to see. Dressel of the United States. USA have come in

:53:19.:53:24.

second place. France are first, USA second, third is Brazil. Look at

:53:25.:53:30.

Michael Phelps, what a fantastic stroke. Going like a rocket. Lane

:53:31.:53:44.

number two, Canada. Fantastic 50 metres... Down on the world record.

:53:45.:53:55.

France taking the lead. Phelps, back again. Michael Phelps is eating

:53:56.:54:02.

these guys are live. You are not sure if he should be in the relay.

:54:03.:54:08.

He did strongly in the trials for America and look at the lead they

:54:09.:54:12.

have got. Unbelievable, USA leading by a street. Look at the lead it has

:54:13.:54:21.

given them. You put him in second. Look at him go. The Australians are

:54:22.:54:31.

digging in now. Australia in lead three, Russian Federation in four.

:54:32.:54:40.

The Russian was in and out and is back in again but Ryan Held catching

:54:41.:54:50.

him. This will be tight in the last 100. Nathan Adrian is the Olympic

:54:51.:54:54.

champion but I am not sure he's in great form. USA, number one, Russia

:54:55.:55:04.

three, Australia in fourth... Nearest to the camera, pulled out of

:55:05.:55:09.

the individual race to commit to the relay. Great underwater kick from

:55:10.:55:14.

him. I don't think he is good enough to catch Nathan Adrian. 1.3 away

:55:15.:55:22.

from the record. 0.6 ahead. Look at the turn and Adrian has got it.

:55:23.:55:28.

Nathan Adrian is so powerful and starting to swim away. Lane tee and

:55:29.:55:35.

three, Canada and Australia. Three and four, Australia and Russia and

:55:36.:55:44.

the Aussies may get the bronze. Silver to France, bronze to

:55:45.:55:47.

Australia... What a surprise. Michael Phelps, there he is, oh my

:55:48.:55:55.

goodness me, where did that come from, 47.1, USA win the gold. If you

:55:56.:56:02.

have any questions about if Michael Phelps is in shape for his fifth

:56:03.:56:06.

Olympic Games, there is the answer. Another Olympic gold medal and he

:56:07.:56:12.

deserves that one. I tell you. What a great split. Phelps's 19 Olympic

:56:13.:56:22.

gold medal. Phelps's 23rd Olympic medal. I have got to tell you. That

:56:23.:56:26.

is a wonderful result for team USA, I didn't think they would do that.

:56:27.:56:33.

They knew they could, the rest of the world not sure. Nathan Adrian on

:56:34.:56:40.

the left, he is a powerhouse. Phelps's son, Boomer. He has a

:56:41.:57:01.

footprint but that the knot his actual foot... Phelps, the results

:57:02.:57:12.

have been clarified. One of the greatest swimmers in the world is

:57:13.:57:17.

back on form. He has got a couple of individual races you would not want

:57:18.:57:21.

to bet against. I can't believe, 47.1. We have the results of the

:57:22.:57:29.

swimmers from the first three legs. It will take complicated maths to

:57:30.:57:35.

work out what the last leg swim it did. I wouldn't be surprised if

:57:36.:57:41.

Phelps did the fastest swim of the race. I am not seeing too many other

:57:42.:57:50.

47.1 winner, I tell you. Nathan Adrian really was quick. Left arm is

:57:51.:57:56.

Michael Phelps, screaming out the water. -- act the water. 47.9, if my

:57:57.:58:12.

maths is right for Nathan Adrian. USA just ripped that one, ripped the

:58:13.:58:17.

gold medal from the rest of the field. I think France will be

:58:18.:58:23.

pleased. They properly don't feel it now. Close, less than one second

:58:24.:58:28.

away from the gold medal. Australia, bronze. A surprise really. Phelps,

:58:29.:58:38.

there he is, the little mark on his shoulder. The final race on the

:58:39.:58:46.

second night of finals, team USA winning gold in the men's four times

:58:47.:58:53.

100 metre freestyle rally. France get the silver, Australia the

enjoyed the last 75 metres of the race. What were you thinking at this

point? Jazz is very strong at the 100 and I just knew she got it. I

:00:03.:00:07.

knew the silver medal was hers. No-one was going to chase her

:00:08.:00:13.

because she is so strong. It is brilliant to see. You can relax and

:00:14.:00:16.

enjoy the point she will get the silver medal. That is a heck of a

swim from Katie Ledecky. -- Casey. I will not call it a man's time but

:00:36.:00:41.

she is so dominant. There she is, a phenomenal swimmer. For now, for us,

:00:42.:00:48.

it is about Jazz Carlin flying the flag for Wales. Jason is trying to

:00:49.:00:59.

claim her but she is British. Jazz Carlin is heading to the podium.

:01:00.:01:04.

Take us through it. Thank you, Helen. What a night it has been.

:01:05.:01:14.

Gold for Adam Peaty. I don't think it was a surprise. Finally allowed

:01:15.:01:20.

to do what we have been talking about this are long and did it so

:01:21.:01:39.

well. She did what she could. Jazz Carlin is world-class and maybe she

:01:40.:01:40.

would believe it. The bronze goes to Leah Smith of the

:01:41.:02:07.

USA. Olympic bronze medallist. What a confidence booster this will be

:02:08.:02:14.

for Jazz Carlin. Really fantastic. She won the Commonwealth games. That

:02:15.:02:24.

was a really brilliant swim. This surpasses it by a country mile. Now

:02:25.:02:32.

she is a truly world-class swimmer, in with the greatest. Jazz Carlin of

Great Britain wins the silver medal in the women's four times 100 metre

silver. Stunning. She was waiting for the nod to go up, should I go

:02:51.:02:59.

now?! Well done. Great swim. I don't think we could have asked for more.

:03:00.:03:06.

It was the perfect swim. They just wound it up. Brilliant swimming. She

:03:07.:03:15.

can't believe it, look! Well done. Great example of what is possible.

:03:16.:03:20.

Go and swim your own race, don't worry about the others. Ledecky

:03:21.:03:38.

smashed it. A new world superstar in swimming. It is Katie Ledecky. She

:03:39.:03:51.

has just totally destroyed her own record. Olympic champion. I am sure

:03:52.:04:00.

she will take the 800 is well and could get the 200. It is possible.

:04:01.:04:06.

That is likely. She has the silver from last night. Wonderful pictures.

:04:07.:04:22.

The new American superstar and world superstar. Great night of swimming.

see Jess Carlin with a record. --A great night of swimming. A

historical moment. A highlight for me. A brilliant night of swimming.

:06:22.:06:30.

Gold and silver for Britain. Adam Peaty won a gold medal, Jess Carlin

:06:31.:06:38.

won a silver medal. It is only night number two. A huge congratulations

:06:39.:06:50.

to Jess. She missed out on making the Olympics in 2012 because of

:06:51.:06:59.

glandular fever. It has been a long time coming she deserves it. What

:07:00.:07:07.

about the way she looks when she won, and how surprised she looked

:07:08.:07:15.

when she moved onto podium. She looks shocked. For her and Adam,

:07:16.:07:24.

this is their first Olympics. They smashed it. For her, I do did she

:07:25.:07:30.

expected it. I think she expected it a little bit, but her form has been

:07:31.:07:36.

Great all year. It is so beautiful to see, she had

:07:37.:07:47.

no expectations coming into it, have a good swim. And she came away with

:07:48.:07:59.

Olympic silver medal. It felt like a gold. She wasn't going to get

:08:00.:08:05.

anywhere near Ledecky, Sashi won by her own right. She really was a kid

:08:06.:08:11.

in a candy store, she is 25, first Olympics. That is unusual for a lot

:08:12.:08:18.

of swimmers. She was so excited to be here. She is looking for her

:08:19.:08:27.

family. Is that a mother? That is her boyfriend, Lewis. There she is.

:08:28.:08:35.

So great to have her family come out and share this with her. It is your

:08:36.:08:40.

coach, it your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your family, they share

:08:41.:08:43.

the support. You owe so much to them. For these guys, that is all we

:08:44.:08:51.

are looking for. We have got Team Ledecky cheering on all night. And

:08:52.:09:10.

that is Ledecky's parents. -- Jazz's. She won a silver medal. It

:09:11.:09:19.

has been a phenomenal night in the pool for the British swimmers. Three

world records. It is about winning medals. Great performances. If

:09:27.:09:32.

you're going to it somewhere, it is like a carnival in here. This place

is so energetic. I know it is 4am there, but it fills a quarry in

here, because it is so electric and I am exhausted. -- it feels like

hours of the gym, around the pool, all that training, it has all been

worth it. The little lady is a little whether they can summon the

:10:08.:10:14.

strength to get up and go to trading tomorrow, do it. It is so possible.

:10:15.:10:21.

You never know where you might end up. An absolute privilege to be in

:10:22.:10:25.

this pool tonight. This is one of those days that is going to stay

:10:26.:10:28.

with each and everyone of us. These are the Olympic moments that

:10:29.:10:37.

we love. These are the Olympic moments that we remember and will be

:10:38.:10:42.

talking about for many years to come. If you are inspired by Adam

:11:00.:11:14.

Woodworth saves Brazil. Iraq hitting the woodwork. Agonisingly close to

other nations in the lead up to this game. Steering at was the left-hand

:12:14.:12:19.

Takes no chances. Three Brazilian players sitting in a block, Namar

going for goal. Off the woodwork. That ball crashed against the

woodwork. The efforts is exactly what they need. No gold still.

:12:51.:13:08.

Growing frustration. Long-range, an effort that the two be swirling.

:13:09.:13:27.

Looking for something here. That is another myth is its successive

games. What a mess, and what is about Brazil when they host a

football tournament, the pressure is on them. They go into the third

match without a goal. Van Vlugten suffered fractures after
