Thanks for joining us here in Rio, where as you can see, Great Britain

:00:21.:00:27.

are about to kick off in their quarterfinal women's rugby sevens

:00:28.:00:30.

match against Fiji. Here are Eddie Butler and Clive Woodward.

:00:31.:00:35.

COMMENTATOR: Thank you, Clive. It is an amazing start for Great Britain.

:00:36.:00:46.

Great chase by Emily Scarratt. Good delivery on the kick-off from Katie

:00:47.:00:55.

MacLean. A quick apology for the poor quality of the vision. We are

:00:56.:01:00.

doing our best with it. The good news is that Great Britain have just

:01:01.:01:04.

taken the earliest of Leeds against Fiji. And Katie MacLean at the two

:01:05.:01:18.

extra points. Hello, Clive. Team GB, wonderful start. And also the extra

:01:19.:01:26.

two points. Great kick-off against IK Kim

:01:27.:01:50.

acclaim. It is so important in these games -- Katy McLean.

:01:51.:01:55.

A wonderful start to the game for Team GB.

:01:56.:02:16.

Britain in defence, watchful. A sudden burst of speed from the

:02:17.:03:13.

captain. Good running by Fiji. The shape of the defence was good.

:03:14.:03:28.

Daveua again. Naiqato scores for Fiji. That upset the United States

:03:29.:03:38.

in the very first game. Team GB hanging off a bit here. Watching the

:03:39.:03:45.

footwork of the Fijian women, they are wonderful to watch. That was a

:03:46.:03:51.

wonderful score from them. But they are just a bit passive in defence,

:03:52.:03:56.

Team GB. They have got to get physical with this Fijian team. As

:03:57.:04:01.

you say, great start. But just like the men, they have great athletes.

:04:02.:04:09.

You have got to get into them, you can't hang off against these Fijian

:04:10.:04:20.

women. Naiqato takes her place. It is not going her way.

:04:21.:05:04.

Brilliant send by Alice Richardson. Having been set back on their heels

:05:05.:05:11.

by the Fijians, Great Britain strike back. Katy McLean has taken all the

:05:12.:05:20.

spice, putting it behind the Phrygians. Great pace by Joanne what

:05:21.:05:25.

more. Again, the kicking is excellent.

:05:26.:05:38.

That was a fantastic try. Find the space and keep it in play. One quick

:05:39.:05:53.

glance up by what more to see who was in support. Richardson was

:05:54.:05:56.

there. Penalty, quickly taken by Skerritt.

:05:57.:06:17.

-- scarabs. There is room outside Emily

:06:18.:06:42.

Scarratt. Watmore wasn't going at full pelt. A

:06:43.:07:05.

bit of an anti-climax at the end of it all. Great attack building by

:07:06.:07:11.

Team GB, but they didn't need to give it away. Just keep the ball and

:07:12.:07:16.

keep playing. This game is about keeping possession. Don't give Fiji

:07:17.:07:21.

any chance. Keep the ball in your hands, keep it in field. But a good

:07:22.:07:25.

start by Team GB. They will be pleased. We are into overtime at the

:07:26.:07:32.

end of the first half. The line-out will take place. The challenge from

:07:33.:07:38.

Abbey brand, but Fiji have possession. It has gone very

:07:39.:07:46.

scrappy. This is a chance for Great Britain to end this first half with

:07:47.:07:57.

a third score. It is for Joanne Watmore. A real bonus at the end of

:07:58.:08:00.

this first half, and it is looking very good for Great Britain. A third

:08:01.:08:05.

strike, 19-7, with the conversion to come. Fiji showing a certain lack of

:08:06.:08:17.

experience. The ball should have been hooved down the other end of

:08:18.:08:24.

the field. Team GB got a vital score. It is looking good. The women

:08:25.:08:30.

looked in great shape. Do not underestimate this Fiji team. They

:08:31.:08:33.

beat the United States yesterday and they have been training hard with

:08:34.:08:37.

the men's team. There are a good site, but Team GB are having a

:08:38.:08:41.

wonderful day. This morning against Canada was the best I have seen them

:08:42.:08:47.

play for a long time. And they are playing for big prizes now. 19-7 at

:08:48.:08:53.

half-time. The other five players come off the bench to join the

:08:54.:09:05.

huddle in the middle. Team GB have been good at using

:09:06.:09:10.

their bench. Most of the players had a big role to play in the second

:09:11.:09:14.

half of the game. Watch out for Emily Scott. She has made a big

:09:15.:09:21.

difference to the team. Chris Cracknell, the coach of Fiji. This

:09:22.:09:30.

was the start, straight from the kick-off. You talk about the

:09:31.:09:38.

athleticism of the Australians and the New Zealanders, but this Team GB

:09:39.:09:43.

have a lot of great athletes. It is wonderful to see Abbie Brown

:09:44.:09:48.

running. And the Fijian team are bringing something new. They are

:09:49.:09:51.

going to be a very strong sevens nation, no doubt. This kick was

:09:52.:09:59.

something different. I loved the look up from Joanne what -- Joanne

:10:00.:10:05.

Watmore. 32nd minutes, get the ball and keep

:10:06.:10:30.

it, OK? . Simon Middleton, talking to the women. I think he was saying,

:10:31.:10:37.

be patient, keep the ball. It is all about possession. Let's make sure we

:10:38.:10:52.

focus on this restart. Tinai will take the kick. The referee checks

:10:53.:11:06.

what state Great Britain are in. They say, we are absolutely ready.

:11:07.:11:19.

Good restart. Katy McLean whips the pass to Emily Scarratt.

:11:20.:11:31.

McLean couldn't get the past because Fiji rushed up. Katy McLean slightly

:11:32.:11:42.

overplayed that. The Fijian defence are very good. They keep moving the

:11:43.:11:44.

ball around, and the gaps will come. Good attacking defensive work by

:11:45.:12:19.

Alice Richardson. Here comes the danger runner, Naiqato. Nobody holds

:12:20.:12:25.

a ball in one hand quite like her. Excellent work by Fiji to get back

:12:26.:12:55.

there. Well played by Emily Scarratt, the captain of this very

:12:56.:13:01.

talented Team GB team. The kick was great, because there was no one at

:13:02.:13:06.

home. Emily Scarratt has hurt her wrist, by the look of it. I think

:13:07.:13:18.

she's OK. She is back on her feet. It was Litia Naiqato who stayed

:13:19.:13:32.

down. It is twice now that Team GB have had a space cause problems. I

:13:33.:13:43.

think Emily will be fine. This is an impressive performance from Team GB.

:13:44.:13:46.

A lot of pressure on these women tonight. This is the first time

:13:47.:13:53.

playing in the quarterfinals of an Olympic Games, and each of them has

:13:54.:13:57.

acquitted themselves well. We have some bench players coming on now. We

:13:58.:14:03.

could do with one more score to make this game safe. This is Scarratt, in

:14:04.:14:08.

full flow. She was just about to hurt herself. I think she's getting

:14:09.:14:15.

attention because Fiji have deep concerns. Yes, Fiji lose a play-off.

:14:16.:14:23.

The replacement is already on -- they lose a player.

:14:24.:14:30.

Lavenia Tinai, sorry, Raijeli Daveua comes off. Natasha Hunt, meanwhile,

:14:31.:14:41.

ready to put the ball into the scrum. Good pressure by Fiji. Great

:14:42.:14:50.

Britain comeback with the ball. Amy Wilson-Hardy scrambles it away.

:14:51.:14:59.

Alice Richardson. Can she present it? Yes, she can, penalty. Team GB

:15:00.:15:09.

have got to trust the hands, keep on moving the ball. It has been on a

:15:10.:15:12.

couple of times now and they keep on moving the ball back. Keep on moving

:15:13.:15:18.

the ball and the tries will come. They work hard on their set plays

:15:19.:15:21.

and this is a big moment in the game. Hunt, to Richardson. 'S

:15:22.:15:31.

character. -- Emily Scarratt. Wilson Hardy gets it. Katy McLean. Now

:15:32.:15:43.

there's a real chance and now the past two Natasha Hunt. Good footwork

:15:44.:15:53.

and good defence by Fiji. Wilson Hardy. Katy McLean, brilliant

:15:54.:15:57.

positioning by Abbie Brown and that could be the try that sends Great

:15:58.:16:01.

Britain into the semifinals, into the last four. That is why Katy

:16:02.:16:06.

McLean is in this team, a wonderful show and go that gets Brown under

:16:07.:16:11.

the posts. Decides to hold the ball with two hands, beautiful pass. And

:16:12.:16:17.

this woman, Abbie Brown, what a talent she is and along with her,

:16:18.:16:22.

Joanne Whatmore and Amy Wilson-Hardy, Team GB have some real

:16:23.:16:27.

gas out wide and the substitutes now coming on. They think the game is up

:16:28.:16:30.

now so fresh legs coming on which will add even more power to this

:16:31.:16:33.

game. Katy McLean coming off, wonderful game from her. Adding the

:16:34.:16:43.

conversion. Heather Fisher comes on. Emily Scott is on as well. REFEREE:

:16:44.:16:53.

Play on, quickly. Alice Richardson told to hurry things up. Joanne

:16:54.:16:55.

Whatmore on one side. Confusion, and it will be a Great

:16:56.:17:13.

Britain line-out. That will do. Watmore no rush now. The great thing

:17:14.:17:20.

about Team GB, when you bring the subs on, the quality of the players

:17:21.:17:26.

coming on, like Claire Allan, Emily Scott, and the Welsh woman, Jasmine

:17:27.:17:30.

Joyce, who has got real pace. It really adds to the team. This is not

:17:31.:17:36.

weakening it, this is just fresh legs and quality Team GB players

:17:37.:17:41.

coming onto the field. Danielle Waterman is on. REFEREE: Not

:17:42.:17:51.

straight. Fiji will have the option. The line-out has generally been good

:17:52.:17:54.

in the whole tournament with the women. That was disappointing from

:17:55.:17:58.

Danielle Waterman, not straight is a real error. You just have to get it

:17:59.:18:08.

in and win the ball and play. Claire Allan has come on. Emily Scott

:18:09.:18:15.

chases. And she always makes an impact. The tackle leads to the

:18:16.:18:20.

turnover, scrum down, Great Britain, put in. Emily Scott, technically,

:18:21.:18:25.

one of the best tacklers in the sport. She has just come on and has

:18:26.:18:31.

been absolutely amazing. She is absolutely technically strong and

:18:32.:18:37.

very powerful. Danielle Waterman to feed the scrum. Time off, as Fiji

:18:38.:18:43.

make some changes. And they bring an Luisa Tisolo. And Asena Rokomarama.

:18:44.:18:53.

Team GB have had some good days but this day has been a very special

:18:54.:18:58.

one. Canada was an impressive performance and the night is just as

:18:59.:19:02.

impressive, under huge pressure. Danielle Waterman cannot get the

:19:03.:19:06.

ball away first time and Fiji give away the penalty. Waterman takes it

:19:07.:19:11.

quickly. Now then, here is the flyer, Jasmine Joyce. Just stopped

:19:12.:19:17.

short. Great Britain will have the throw in at the line-out. Jasmine

:19:18.:19:24.

Joyce did very well, went on the outside and the key thing was not

:19:25.:19:27.

going at the touch. She just slides down, keep the ball in play and Fiji

:19:28.:19:33.

kick the ball out. Team GB have possession, possession is everything

:19:34.:19:34.

in Rugby sevens. That line-out does not go right

:19:35.:19:40.

again. Good shadowing work, there. Emily

:19:41.:19:52.

Scott for the tackle, does not quite make it an Luisa Tisolo. Fiji going

:19:53.:20:01.

nowhere for the moment. Trying to get the ball away, Litia Naiqato.

:20:02.:20:09.

And they have. Working the overlap. Good defensive work and the hooter

:20:10.:20:15.

goes. The whistle has gone as well for full-time as well. Claire Allan

:20:16.:20:22.

raises a hand in the air, number one, giving Heather Fisher a big

:20:23.:20:26.

hug. They are through to the last four. Great Britain have beaten Fiji

:20:27.:20:37.

26-7. Yeah, wonderful display, and watching them down on the field,

:20:38.:20:41.

seeing the hugs. All the hard work, Team GB, ranked number four, hoping

:20:42.:20:44.

they were going to make the semifinals are now they have. Unless

:20:45.:20:49.

there's a huge upset, will play New Zealand tomorrow. It is the quality

:20:50.:20:53.

of the performance. They really have played well. Some real pace in this

:20:54.:20:59.

team that I like, real pace in the wide positions. They should have no

:21:00.:21:02.

fear of going head-to-head with New Zealand because... Well, we have

:21:03.:21:09.

dizzy, New Zealand have the USA to play in their quarterfinal. -- we

:21:10.:21:13.

will have to see. That is coming up shortly but for the moment, Great

:21:14.:21:15.

Britain Sebi through, wonderful performance against Fiji.

:21:16.:21:20.

And we had to talk to one of the victorious members of the team in a

:21:21.:21:23.

moment. They are having a debrief and they huddle in the corner. In

:21:24.:21:27.

the interim, let's talk to the most powerful man in world rugby, the

:21:28.:21:31.

chief executive, Bret Gosper, who has been watching events in the last

:21:32.:21:34.

couple of days and will over the next few days with a huge amount of

:21:35.:21:37.

interest and a huge amount of pride as well, I think. Yes, we've waited

:21:38.:21:49.

a long time to come back to the Olympics, nearly two years -- 92

:21:50.:21:51.

years and things are going very well. When he saw Brazil play

:21:52.:21:54.

Colombia in Rio in the Olympic Games about an hour ago -- ago, did you

:21:55.:21:57.

think it was slightly surreal? The sport has come a long way and it's a

:21:58.:22:00.

very different context for us. It's a real development context, plays

:22:01.:22:02.

people are not used to seeing rugby which is good for the game. We are

:22:03.:22:05.

seeing some surprising teams do very well. How much is this still the

:22:06.:22:07.

money game and the money from National Olympic committees and from

:22:08.:22:10.

world rugby as well, needing to be invested at the second and third

:22:11.:22:15.

level Games and in seven does well to try to bridge the gap that there

:22:16.:22:18.

still is? It is still about investing in the team and having the

:22:19.:22:22.

money but the Olympics provides a much broader platform through the

:22:23.:22:25.

fact that each region allows access to this tournament and we invest in

:22:26.:22:29.

all of those regions. It is broadening the footprint of rugby

:22:30.:22:33.

beyond its traditional comfort zone. How much do you see sevens as the

:22:34.:22:36.

sport that will broaden the game more than 15th because of its

:22:37.:22:42.

invalidity, if you like? That's it, it is simpler for spectators to

:22:43.:22:46.

understand and for players and for countries to invest in and become

:22:47.:22:52.

very good, very quickly. In terms of broadening the game, wherever the

:22:53.:22:55.

Olympics are in 2024, what would your ambition be for sevens? Our

:22:56.:23:01.

ambition by then is to have several different levels of top elite sevens

:23:02.:23:05.

game but for sevens to continue to play its role as a developer of the

:23:06.:23:09.

sport, not just for sevens but 15th as well. It's going to be

:23:10.:23:13.

fascinating, Danielle Waterman is here! Hello, well done, I mean, they

:23:14.:23:17.

are a good side but in the second half, you put them to the sword. Bay

:23:18.:23:21.

are fantastic site and we knew we would have to play 40 minutes and

:23:22.:23:24.

the girls did a cracking first half and put enough points on the board

:23:25.:23:28.

to take the pace out of it a little bit but really pleased, semifinal

:23:29.:23:32.

time! Good day all round because you played really well against Canada

:23:33.:23:36.

this morning. Yeah, look, we needed to make some improvements from

:23:37.:23:43.

yesterday, to stick to our own processes. We are just really

:23:44.:23:46.

pleased to get this out of the way and now the semifinals. When you --

:23:47.:23:49.

will you watch the USA and New Zealand? We will have a little

:23:50.:23:52.

watch, not now because we have to recover but we will have the video

:23:53.:23:56.

to get through. We have just spoken to the chief executive of world

:23:57.:23:59.

rugby about what an amazing event this has been for the sport. How has

:24:00.:24:04.

it been for you and the rest of the side? Fantastic on everything from

:24:05.:24:08.

the training camp we had with Team GB to being able to pull on the

:24:09.:24:11.

shirt and come out to a crowd like this has been absolutely brilliant

:24:12.:24:14.

and everything we've ever dreamt of, just got to go all the way now.

:24:15.:24:19.

Congratulations. Danielle, and obviously, still one more

:24:20.:24:23.

quarterfinal to go. Earlier today, really interesting game between

:24:24.:24:26.

Australia and Spain which Australia won and they will play Canada in one

:24:27.:24:31.

semifinal. It's going to be Great Britain but against two? We will

:24:32.:24:34.

find out later. And if you want to look at the

:24:35.:24:37.

potential opposition, the USA against New Zealand, the match will

:24:38.:24:41.

be live on BBC Four but those are the results job was mentioning,

:24:42.:24:45.

Australia beating Spain 24-0 and Canada beating France 15-5 and Great

:24:46.:24:51.

Britain victorious over Fiji, 26-17. -- 26-7.

:24:52.:24:59.

Repetition, it's an art. Day in, day out. Eat, sleep, train, repeat.

:25:00.:25:16.

Mastering skills, building your strength. There are no short cuts.

:25:17.:25:28.

They said practice makes perfect and it is true. This is about fine

:25:29.:25:39.

tuning. Precision. But most of all, it is about passion. That is what

:25:40.:25:45.

drives you to be better, gives you the strength to go again and again.

:25:46.:25:54.

So you keep going. Until you are ready to deliver. When it really

:25:55.:26:02.

counts. That's the art of repetition.

:26:03.:26:08.

And the voice of Michael Johnson make that special, doesn't it? We

:26:09.:26:12.

are switching our attention to gymnastics, yesterday we saw the

:26:13.:26:15.

British men in their qualification for the team and various individual

:26:16.:26:18.

events and today it is the turn of the women and let's join the

:26:19.:26:21.

commentary team of Christine Still, Craig Heap and Beth Tweddle.

:26:22.:26:35.

COMMENTATOR: Rebecca Downie, European champion on the bars, very

:26:36.:26:40.

important for her, she knows she has to be at our best to try to qualify

:26:41.:26:45.

for the final. Hop into the forward elements to start. This is the

:26:46.:26:50.

complicated uprise into catching nicely. So an full-term,

:26:51.:26:58.

immediately, another Tkatchev, Pack salto, down to the no bar -- low

:26:59.:27:04.

bar, putting his work together, still one more release to come, here

:27:05.:27:08.

it is in the straddle position. Really packing the difficulty in,

:27:09.:27:12.

needs a clean this mound, winding up, here, full twisting double back,

:27:13.:27:16.

great routine from Becky Downie! That should be a final for her.

:27:17.:27:22.

Well, solid routine, a little bit of catch on the feat at the start but

:27:23.:27:26.

did really well to recover from that. 14.733 is currently eighth

:27:27.:27:35.

place. Look at this, great height and a flight from the low bar to the

:27:36.:27:40.

top. This is a really difficult release. That is the clear circle

:27:41.:27:44.

into the Tkatchev. You can see, catching the feat on the bar. That

:27:45.:27:52.

will be deducted up to 0.5. The turns were very well executed, a

:27:53.:27:56.

full-term into another straddle Tkatchev. -- a full turn. You can

:27:57.:28:02.

see from the camera above, the Tkatchev and then winding up, full

:28:03.:28:12.

twist in, double truck dismount. And 15.2334 Rebecca Downie. -- 15 .233

:28:13.:28:19.

four Rebecca Downie. It's going to be a long wait for the rest of the

:28:20.:28:25.

day. Onto the beam for Brazil, Flavia Serraglio. -- Flavia

:28:26.:28:33.

Serraglio. As a junior, she wowed us at the youth Olympics. Such a

:28:34.:28:43.

classically beautiful gymnast. She sets up the series, layout, layout,

:28:44.:28:49.

two layout somersaults. She was tying it off but she was confident

:28:50.:28:52.

enough to pull it back. -- a tiny bit of. And the round off, really

:28:53.:29:00.

beautiful work, here, from the Brazilian team. Always got perfectly

:29:01.:29:08.

pointed toes, straight legs, lovely height on the jumps, tiny bit short

:29:09.:29:12.

on the split jump. Elegant hands. Front somersault as well, cleanly

:29:13.:29:41.

into the jump. These gymnasts from Brazil are really working

:29:42.:29:47.

confidently. Lovely free walkover, straight into another one. Look at

:29:48.:29:52.

that series of three elements in a row. Straight back, no hesitation,

:29:53.:29:59.

double pike dismount. That was really a special routine. I would be

:30:00.:30:03.

very disappointed if we don't see that in the final. 16 years of age

:30:04.:30:10.

and what a performance. The stadium is absolutely erupting. And I can

:30:11.:30:15.

see why. Absolutely jam-packed from start to finish. Most people put two

:30:16.:30:21.

acrobatic elements together, but three? Flip, layout, layout. Did

:30:22.:30:35.

really well to make the adjustments. Look at that. Another acrobatic into

:30:36.:30:47.

the leap combination. Some gymnasts struggled to touch the head, but no

:30:48.:31:00.

problems there. The first 15 we have had all day look at that execution.

:31:01.:31:11.

We only saw Becky Downie on the bars. How did the rest of them do?

:31:12.:31:20.

We started off with flabby, who unfortunately had a fall. Ruby went

:31:21.:31:30.

with the full twisting somersault. You can see the coach standing in

:31:31.:31:40.

for safety. Very original work. This routine is full of difficulty.

:31:41.:31:54.

Ruby has two routines, and she opted for the easy one and scored a great

:31:55.:32:03.

14.8. Had the whole team gone clean, I guess she would have had freedom

:32:04.:32:06.

to try the more difficult routine, but that was a team job.

:32:07.:32:27.

Ellie Downie started with a good bar routine. Really powerful gymnast,

:32:28.:32:48.

has had to work hard to control the power. Nicely into the front

:32:49.:32:58.

somersault. But this is the so difficult element, so blind. She

:32:59.:33:05.

makes it cleanly. Now she needs to keep the focus. Here are the two

:33:06.:33:17.

leaps, one with a half turn. This is very difficult as well. Double spin.

:33:18.:33:24.

A little over spun, but she holds onto the landing. She has had three

:33:25.:33:30.

difficult spins and leaps. Must focus for the acrobatic series. And

:33:31.:33:42.

the jump straight into the free cartwheel. Nice, smooth dance work.

:33:43.:33:52.

We saw Ellie attempt a hugely difficult dismount in training. Will

:33:53.:33:58.

she go for a year? No, she has played safe for the team, but that

:33:59.:34:09.

was a solid performance. That was at clean, smooth routine. It certainly

:34:10.:34:13.

was, and it shows the potential of this young gymnast. There is the

:34:14.:34:22.

score. Good flexibility in the leaps. Very solid. Well done,

:34:23.:34:47.

Eilidh. 14.54 Ellie Downie. Great score.

:34:48.:35:06.

Rebeca Andrade is a special gymnast. She had a big injury last year and

:35:07.:35:10.

has fought to be back so quickly. And lovely landings, lovely

:35:11.:35:25.

twisting. Very important for the gymnast to

:35:26.:35:44.

interpret the music well. A really good floor routine, tell a

:35:45.:36:07.

bit of a story. And have great tumbling. Super double tuck.

:36:08.:36:20.

Lovely elevation and split on that leap. She has not slipped on the

:36:21.:36:35.

landing sofa. What do we get here? Another fantastic finish. The crowd

:36:36.:36:44.

are going wild, and so they should. That was sensational. Creative and

:36:45.:36:48.

expressive. Brazil are really making the most of competing on home soil.

:36:49.:36:54.

The atmosphere in this arena is absolutely electric. She really did

:36:55.:37:01.

perform and sell this routine, Christine. She really did. She is

:37:02.:37:06.

one of the gymnasts with big vaults as well. So I think Brazil are going

:37:07.:37:14.

to be a team to be reckoned with here, for sure. We have seen lots of

:37:15.:37:18.

teams struggle getting used to the rebound from the floor. But maybe

:37:19.:37:23.

the home advantage for these guys has helped them out. Over to the

:37:24.:37:32.

bin. Representing Britain, Becky Downie. We have seen her younger

:37:33.:37:39.

sister. Becky Downie first went to the Olympics in 2008 at Beijing as a

:37:40.:37:49.

16-year-old. That will be very disappointing to her. She is really

:37:50.:37:56.

a beautiful beam worker and she would have been helping to build on

:37:57.:37:59.

the performances of the younger members of the team. Free cartwheel

:38:00.:38:16.

layout, somersault, nice and secure. A little adjustment.

:38:17.:38:28.

Leap, spin, acrobatic element and another jump. Really showing us what

:38:29.:38:41.

she is capable of. But the very first move, she faltered on. And

:38:42.:38:47.

this is a difficult finite element. -- final element.

:38:48.:38:56.

She needs to make sure this is a secure dismount. She does. That will

:38:57.:39:04.

be very disappointing to Becky. We have had some good performances

:39:05.:39:08.

before, but she will be disappointed with herself. Those are her two

:39:09.:39:17.

pieces done. She will be disappointed. We can see the front

:39:18.:39:26.

somersault again. A mark was lost. But in the rest of the routine, she

:39:27.:39:29.

composed herself and performed well. 13.3 for Becky Downie. You can see

:39:30.:39:51.

the team standings. Great Britain are still in first, with 87. It is

:39:52.:40:06.

very close between second and sixth place.

:40:07.:40:15.

Up on floor, representing Great Britain, Ruby Harrold. One of the

:40:16.:40:37.

leaders of the GB team. She has been an ever present member of the World

:40:38.:40:44.

Championship teams. Very nice spin to start. Good double Arabian to

:40:45.:40:51.

start. Very nice leaps. This is a difficult

:40:52.:41:17.

series. Lots of gymnasts have come unstuck on these rebound is, but

:41:18.:41:28.

Ruby negotiated it well. Dramatic, powerful routine.

:41:29.:41:49.

They can spring, double twisting front, very clean into the spin.

:41:50.:41:59.

Great start for Great Britain. It was a determined performance from

:42:00.:42:05.

Ruby Harrold, first up on the floor. This is the big fault, Rebeca

:42:06.:42:15.

Andrade. Well, that was stratospheric. You can see the

:42:16.:42:27.

difficulty rating goes up from 5.8 to 6.3. Another very good round.

:42:28.:42:35.

Makes the two and a half, just a little step on the landing. Ruby

:42:36.:42:47.

Harrold has a good start, with a 5.5 difficulty.

:42:48.:43:06.

Straight into the start of the Tkatchev. Difficult start. The big

:43:07.:43:15.

releases. Straight into the dismount. Well,

:43:16.:43:36.

that was a bar routine that will challenge. Definitely. We have so

:43:37.:43:40.

often seen her not quite pull it together at the big moment, but that

:43:41.:43:44.

was full of confidence and determination. The score for Rebeca

:43:45.:43:54.

Andrade is a very big score. She seems pleased with that, as she

:43:55.:43:59.

should be. I don't think we have seen a much better than that.

:44:00.:44:16.

Claudia Fragapane needs to be secure on this first tumble. That is the

:44:17.:44:31.

way you do it. There are difficult second tumble. It is hard to time

:44:32.:44:35.

these double Arabian is on the floor. Just a step out.

:44:36.:44:50.

Lovely height on these leaks. -- leaks.

:44:51.:44:57.

A little bit of original acrobatics, there. Now we have seen big double

:44:58.:45:08.

straight full twist, double pike Arabian, and this is her twisting

:45:09.:45:11.

double, needs to control the adrenaline coming year. She does,

:45:12.:45:16.

lovely triple twist. -- adrenaline, here. Clean on the double spin,

:45:17.:45:28.

dancing right through to the end. Needs a big push because this is a

:45:29.:45:33.

big final tumble, come on, double somersault, she made it! What a

:45:34.:45:44.

show. Well done, Daria Fragapane. -- Claudia Fragapane. That was

:45:45.:45:47.

sensational, the pocket rocket has delivered. That was action packed

:45:48.:45:55.

from start to finish. Such an expressive performance. Talk about

:45:56.:46:04.

selling a routine. I'm sold. Look at this huge, high into the double pike

:46:05.:46:08.

Arabian, a step forward, but I think she managed to stay inside the

:46:09.:46:15.

floor. Then look at this, a lot tidier in the twisting part. That is

:46:16.:46:18.

the triple twist, that is a requirement. Some gymnast struggle

:46:19.:46:25.

to start with the double layout but not Claudia, that is what she

:46:26.:46:30.

finishes with. Actually, Craig, that is the first gymnast we have seen be

:46:31.:46:34.

strong enough to finish with the double straight somersault. We have

:46:35.:46:37.

seen her buckle on that tumble in the past on a number of occasions

:46:38.:46:42.

but there was no buckling today. I hope that gets rewarded from the

:46:43.:46:54.

judges. But I think Ellie Downie had a bit of an unfortunate time, Beth,

:46:55.:47:00.

can you fill us in? The first to Tom were fantastic and as she was going

:47:01.:47:03.

for the last one, she just stepped off the floor so they have taken her

:47:04.:47:08.

out of the arena. Whether she comes back in, the fact is, she walked

:47:09.:47:17.

off. So she is fine. There we go, 14.333, Claudia Fragapane on the

:47:18.:47:22.

floor. Amy Tinkler comes to the vault. Another double twist

:47:23.:47:29.

Diatchenko, and it is wrapped in. Solid vault from a meeting -- Amy

:47:30.:47:39.

Tinkler a real, powerful before gymnast. -- little gymnast. This has

:47:40.:47:47.

been a big change in a British team, the vaulting and the consistency. Oh

:47:48.:47:54.

yes, it has. But you know, doubles were at one time something we kind

:47:55.:47:59.

of dreamt about but this is lovely, you know, easy body, nice and

:48:00.:48:03.

upright, just be step back, that will probably keep her out of the

:48:04.:48:08.

really high, well, very high 14th and 15th but it is a lovely vault.

:48:09.:48:14.

Able to do a bit more in the future, not far off the two and a half

:48:15.:48:18.

twist. Amy Tinkler has done very well, 14.833, so 15 without that

:48:19.:48:26.

step. Ellie Downie has recovered and is going to vote for the team. Into

:48:27.:48:33.

58, come on, Ellie, double twist, might be the best we have seen so

:48:34.:48:40.

far. She is a very special vaulter, Ellie, lovely technique, here,

:48:41.:48:46.

haired fixed, lift, high, wrapping, opens out, just that hop,

:48:47.:48:55.

disappointed if that does not move up into the 15 Barra and of course,

:48:56.:48:59.

she is one of the two Great Britain gymnasts that have worked all

:49:00.:49:08.

around. 14.833, given an average of 14.683, Ellie Downie. China in first

:49:09.:49:17.

with 175, then Russia with 174, and only a few tents behind, Great

:49:18.:49:21.

Britain and Brazil, both on 174, only one tenth in it.

:49:22.:49:30.

Girls, you are third at the moment but first, Ellie, you had us all

:49:31.:49:36.

worried, what happened? In my bird tumble, I blogged a little bit too

:49:37.:49:38.

hard and I've done a couple like that in training and got away with

:49:39.:49:42.

it but I just went for the punch and I thought I would be all right but

:49:43.:49:46.

my legs buckled! I landed on my neck and heard a bit of a crunch. I was

:49:47.:49:53.

like, I'll be fine, just get to the end, it's the Olympics. Then on my

:49:54.:49:57.

last tumble I felt a bit dizzy so I decided not to risk hurting myself

:49:58.:50:01.

again so I stopped. But then it is kind of like an initial Bing, you

:50:02.:50:04.

panic at first but then you realise you are not too bad. I'm a bit stiff

:50:05.:50:08.

but they put me in a wheelchair when I went out and I was like, no, I

:50:09.:50:13.

want to do the vault, get me back out there! I want to finish the

:50:14.:50:18.

competition. A true team player if ever there was one but just to

:50:19.:50:24.

confirm, you feel OK, do you have to get any more checks? The physio and

:50:25.:50:27.

Doctor will check me out again, I had a bit of a bomb in podium

:50:28.:50:31.

training said to be competing was a bit of a battle. I am glad I am

:50:32.:50:40.

here. We are glad of that. Some of the performance, you must have been

:50:41.:50:42.

worried for your sister but at the end of the day, your third as it

:50:43.:50:47.

stands. The team overall has done an amazing job. Qualification is or was

:50:48.:50:50.

the hardest and we did have a couple of little mistakes but when we look

:50:51.:50:53.

at the team title, the team is what we came here for and hopefully we

:50:54.:50:56.

are going to make the team final and get another opportunity to compete.

:50:57.:50:59.

That's the main thing and it's just about enjoying being at the

:51:00.:51:04.

Olympics. Claudia, your first Olympics experience but you had to

:51:05.:51:07.

go on the vault after watching Ellie and on the floor as well, so what

:51:08.:51:10.

goes through your mind when you see your team-mate hurting and

:51:11.:51:16.

potentially seriously? She's my really good friend so I was

:51:17.:51:19.

panicking but the other girls kept me well and said I should still do a

:51:20.:51:23.

good performance and the coaches said I had to forget about her even

:51:24.:51:26.

though it was really hard! I tried to do the best vault that I could.

:51:27.:51:31.

Seeing that she got back up and went and did that vault, I'm really proud

:51:32.:51:35.

of her. Another strong vault from you, Amy. All around, how happy are

:51:36.:51:40.

you with your first Olympics appearance? I'm really happy with my

:51:41.:51:43.

performance and the team, we have done incredible. To qualify for the

:51:44.:51:47.

team final was the main goal so I'm really proud. Ruby, as ever, a solid

:51:48.:51:52.

stored for the team but you got the bronze in Glasgow, you are third as

:51:53.:51:58.

it stands, some big countries to come but what can you achieve as a

:51:59.:52:01.

team in Rio? We've got a world medal before and who's to say we can't get

:52:02.:52:04.

an Olympic medal but qualification is with the hardest day so it was a

:52:05.:52:07.

case of getting through and doing good enough to qualify to the final

:52:08.:52:11.

and that is what we have done. Two days and hopefully we will be out

:52:12.:52:15.

stronger and fighting for the medal. Thanks, girls, and Ellie, we are

:52:16.:52:20.

pleased you are OK. Incredibly brave from Ellie Downie

:52:21.:52:24.

because she was crunching her neck, taken off in a wheelchair, recovers

:52:25.:52:28.

to do the vault. Mark Foster is with me, where you just getting rid of

:52:29.:52:33.

some chewing gum? I was. Everyone saw! We will reflect on the

:52:34.:52:36.

something that happened earlier at the Aquatic Centre just behind us

:52:37.:52:41.

but also tonight, well worth staying up late because... Adam Peaty is

:52:42.:52:45.

going. And it's going to be a gold medal. Are you definitely saying

:52:46.:52:49.

that? And I think you are coming over later because you think it's

:52:50.:52:53.

going to be as well. Riesgo I want to watch that, the 100 metres

:52:54.:52:58.

breast, coming up at just after 2:50am, British time. It will be

:52:59.:53:02.

shown as live tomorrow morning so if you don't want to know the result

:53:03.:53:05.

when you wake up, don't look at social media or anything and you can

:53:06.:53:11.

watch it again. Let's catch up on the heats from earlier because David

:53:12.:53:13.

McDaid can tell us what happened with the British women.

:53:14.:53:19.

They too got underway in the Aquatic Centre with the women's 100 metres

:53:20.:53:24.

backstroke, Georgia Davies lining up in lane six and has six. -- in her

:53:25.:53:29.

heat. Hold the water, slipping a bit on the left hand, not too bad, 58.8

:53:30.:53:35.

is quick, Georgia Davies has gone 59.8 and she will certainly be

:53:36.:53:37.

through to the semifinal this evening. Training has been going

:53:38.:53:44.

well but you get yourself down and then you get the nerves because it

:53:45.:53:47.

is such a big occasion and you just want to come and swim really well.

:53:48.:53:51.

In the fifth and final heat, the reigning world champion, the

:53:52.:53:55.

Australian Emily Seebohm, cruised to the semifinals. Plenty of British

:53:56.:54:00.

interest in the 100 metres breast, too, whether third heat saw the

:54:01.:54:03.

unseeded Molly Renshaw give it absolutely everything. Molly Renshaw

:54:04.:54:11.

is going well in two, Molly Renshaw in second, a time of 67.92, second

:54:12.:54:17.

in her heat is good. Sadly, her time and she would not progress. In the

:54:18.:54:23.

fifth Fleet, Chloe Tutton was up against Yulia Efimova, the reigning

:54:24.:54:26.

world champion, cleared to swim at the 11th hour. At the moment, it is

:54:27.:54:31.

looking like Yulia Efimova, the power, where she has got it from in

:54:32.:54:35.

the last 50 metres, well, comfortable in the end, goodness me,

:54:36.:54:42.

65.7. Booing and jeering for the winner, FM over but would Chloe

:54:43.:54:45.

Tutton's time be enough for qualification? -- Yulia Efimova.

:54:46.:54:51.

Ruta Meilutyte, only 15 when she won gold in London, was back to defend

:54:52.:54:55.

her title but it was America's Lilly King who grabbed first place and

:54:56.:54:59.

there was good news for Zoe Tartan's qualification. Fantastic, another PB

:55:00.:55:05.

and through to the semifinals. I'm so pleased with that! I'm just

:55:06.:55:08.

grateful to have another swim. I'm going to enjoy every moment of it

:55:09.:55:13.

denied. The crowd is incredible, especially all the Brazilians. It is

:55:14.:55:17.

quite an enclosed space. It gets so loud. It is really energetic and I

:55:18.:55:22.

love it. Jazz Carlin you only win second place in the heat would

:55:23.:55:27.

guarantee her a spot in the final of the women's 400 freestyle. That was

:55:28.:55:33.

impressive, 4:02.8, Jazz Carlin, she has beaten some very good swimmers.

:55:34.:55:38.

A personal best for Jazz Carlin and in the final she will meet superstar

:55:39.:55:42.

Katie Ledecky, who was in record-breaking mood. 3:58.7, a new

:55:43.:55:45.

Olympic record for Katie Ledecky. Katie Ledecky is sensational, she

:55:46.:55:55.

was only 15 in London and popped up and beat Rebecca Adlington and now,

:55:56.:55:58.

she is the leading, I guess, the leading name in American women's

:55:59.:56:03.

swimming. Going in here, she is potentially going to win three gold

:56:04.:56:07.

medals in the 203, the 400 free at the 800 free. And then she has the

:56:08.:56:13.

4x200 relay. Jazz had an amazing heat this morning and the and Becky

:56:14.:56:15.

Bode said when she went in, she looked very light in the water and

:56:16.:56:19.

she went out hard for it but she does not have a lot of speed, it is

:56:20.:56:22.

normally the backend, the 800 is a race but she goes into the final

:56:23.:56:25.

second but Katie Ledecky will win the gold medal and it will be the

:56:26.:56:34.

battle for silver and Jazz Carlin is in the kind of form that she can win

:56:35.:56:37.

it. A bit like Hannah Miley last night, the trick is to swim for the

:56:38.:56:40.

medal. Can Jazz Carlin get a bit luckier than Hannah Miley because

:56:41.:56:43.

she was touched off for the bronze? I hope so, I really do. This

:56:44.:56:45.

morning, she looked really good and she will be next to Katie Ledecky

:56:46.:56:48.

and hopefully not distracted too much. Katie Ledecky will go for the

:56:49.:56:51.

world record and I think she will beat it. This was this morning with

:56:52.:56:55.

Jazz Carlin, she looks in control of the race. I have not seen her swim

:56:56.:56:59.

without confidence since the Commonwealth Games. For her, it is a

:57:00.:57:02.

mental thing. She has the ability but she shuts off of it and does not

:57:03.:57:06.

believe she is as good as she is. A lot swimmers tend to have that as do

:57:07.:57:11.

swimmers but -- as do people but that swim this morning will give her

:57:12.:57:15.

confidence going into the night. I like the fact the Bridges swimmers

:57:16.:57:18.

are all wearing red caps because it makes it easier when you look at the

:57:19.:57:22.

lanes! I wanted to talk to you about Katinka Hosszu because last night

:57:23.:57:25.

she said a phenomenal world record in the 400 individual medley, faster

:57:26.:57:32.

than in London. She, her form has improved massively, her husband is

:57:33.:57:36.

her coach, and she is quite defensive in terms she has taken

:57:37.:57:38.

legal action against journalist who have suggested other than this being

:57:39.:57:42.

down to hard work. What is your take? It interesting, she came from

:57:43.:57:48.

nowhere when she was 16 and that became one of the talking point in

:57:49.:57:55.

London. You she Wing is 15 seconds slower. It raises eyebrows. With

:57:56.:58:00.

Katinka Hosszu in London, she believed she was going to win the

:58:01.:58:03.

race and I think Wing would have beaten her Buddy Guy Matt Ford, and

:58:04.:58:07.

in the 200 individual medley, she came at eighth, she obviously had

:58:08.:58:10.

ability, she was world champion before she went to the new coach so

:58:11.:58:14.

in 2013, she married an American who has since become her coach and she

:58:15.:58:18.

has had, not huge improvements but more improvements and become

:58:19.:58:22.

immensely successful and broken world records. It comes down to more

:58:23.:58:28.

training, they say, and less rating. Her old coach... More racing, less

:58:29.:58:32.

training, she races all the time. Yes, 100 races a year and she was

:58:33.:58:36.

the first women to earn over $1 million in a year for racing. But

:58:37.:58:40.

her old coach, I trained with him in the states for a couple of years and

:58:41.:58:44.

Yulia Efimova trains there and a couple of other summits... I'm

:58:45.:58:48.

completely clean by the way! Speaking to him, he told me she was

:58:49.:58:51.

an unbelievable trainer, pushed herself I'll in the water but for

:58:52.:58:55.

soft outside it in the gym and her husband come her coach now, is a

:58:56.:59:00.

real motivator and some people say it is scary, the way he is with her,

:59:01.:59:04.

that kind of relationship. But some people need that Bush. She's done

:59:05.:59:07.

psychology major and I guess she can work him out and he did a human

:59:08.:59:11.

performance major and was a swimmer. It is probably attention to detail.

:59:12.:59:16.

I like to believe in fairy tales and I be if you do things properly and

:59:17.:59:20.

he's looked at all the details and got everything right, she is an

:59:21.:59:23.

exceptional athlete. She's going to be one of the major stars and has a

:59:24.:59:27.

gold medal already, Katinka Hosszu. Katie Ledecky, world records

:59:28.:59:31.

falling, one of them broken by Adam Peaty in the heats for the 100

:59:32.:59:34.

metres breast wrote. Let's round up what happened to the British men who

:59:35.:59:37.

were in action earlier today. -- breaststroke.

:59:38.:59:47.

The men's 200 GB freestyle, but this afternoon was all about another guy,

:59:48.:00:03.

James Guy. James Guy has moved up to second place and is making a move

:00:04.:00:10.

now. Well done, James. Comfortably through to the semifinals. No shock

:00:11.:00:15.

to see him qualify, but there were some surprises. The Olympic

:00:16.:00:23.

champion, the 2012 silver medallist both crashed out. Dreams and

:00:24.:00:26.

reality. That is what is tattooed on the ankles of GB's Chris

:00:27.:00:33.

Walker-Hebborn. Today he was hoping to make his dreams come true in the

:00:34.:00:41.

backstroke. He needs to go mid 53 to make the semifinal. He took third

:00:42.:00:48.

place but would now have to wait to see if the final heat went his way,

:00:49.:00:51.

a race that featured the reigning world champion. This is very

:00:52.:00:58.

impressive indeed. If he can just bring at home, he is going to win

:00:59.:01:06.

it. Great Britain's Chris Walker-Hebborn will be in the

:01:07.:01:13.

semifinal. Did you like it? Definitely. I know it is a Brazilian

:01:14.:01:17.

home crowd and they are not necessarily cheering for us, but I

:01:18.:01:23.

use it to my advantage. It is a pretty special atmosphere here. I

:01:24.:01:27.

just want to enjoy every minute. Subvert the atmosphere and the

:01:28.:01:30.

British swimmers are starting to warm up nicely. Mark, who were you

:01:31.:01:37.

impressed with from the early use? A lot of guys. Chris Walker-Hebborn

:01:38.:01:40.

has not had a great year this year. He looked good this morning. He has

:01:41.:01:44.

made it through to the finals in sixth place. I was really pleased to

:01:45.:01:49.

see James Guy bounce back, because he had two hard races last night. He

:01:50.:01:54.

would have been slightly disappointed last night, but looking

:01:55.:01:59.

back last year, becoming world silver and world gold medallist,

:02:00.:02:01.

there is a whole expectation from nowhere that weighs on your bit. So

:02:02.:02:06.

this morning brew the cobwebs away and set him up for a good semifinal

:02:07.:02:10.

this evening, but it is loaded. Your man, Chad Le Clos, is back, and

:02:11.:02:15.

looks in exceptional form. It will be a tight race. James Guy is

:02:16.:02:19.

sharing a room in the Olympic village with Adam Peaty. Tonight is

:02:20.:02:23.

the night that Adam Peaty could win Great Britain their first swimming

:02:24.:02:27.

gold medal for a man since 1988. A woman did it twice in Beijing, Becky

:02:28.:02:31.

Adlington. It is only fair that she gets the interview with Adam.

:02:32.:02:39.

How are you? Good, thanks. Do you get sick of walking through those

:02:40.:02:47.

doors? Not really. You must do! Not at five a.m.. Well, positive

:02:48.:02:55.

attitude. You are positive. A brilliant hundred metres

:02:56.:02:58.

breaststroke, it is gold to Peaty. You are on the block every day. Do

:02:59.:03:02.

you visualise what it will be like in real? A little bit. I always like

:03:03.:03:09.

to visualise a race beforehand. Once you are underwater, the cheering

:03:10.:03:11.

starts, but you could just feel numbness. Then you take your first

:03:12.:03:19.

stroke and it is so loud. It might be Peaty! Peaty has got it on the

:03:20.:03:23.

last stroke, and the world champion is Adam Peaty of Great Britain. Are

:03:24.:03:29.

you worried about the big crowd, or do you relish it? I love it. The

:03:30.:03:33.

more people in the crowd, the better I swim. I can swim good, but not

:03:34.:03:39.

great if there is no crowd. You can't say that, you broke the record

:03:40.:03:43.

that the British champions the British championships with about two

:03:44.:03:47.

people in the stands! That was different, because that was London.

:03:48.:03:53.

I looked up at the scoreboard and it said 57.9. And knowing no one else

:03:54.:03:59.

has been near that... Your face! I just looked, and looked again, and

:04:00.:04:04.

again. Then I had to take another look, just to make sure it wasn't

:04:05.:04:08.

going to be adjusted. Then it was like, yeah, world record. Do you

:04:09.:04:18.

think you would have had the same success without Mel, or are you such

:04:19.:04:22.

a solid team? I don't think I would get anywhere near where I am now. I

:04:23.:04:26.

have enough trust in her too literally give me something to put

:04:27.:04:31.

the ahead of the rest. He has openly said that he doesn't think he would

:04:32.:04:35.

have the success if he wasn't with you. Don't make me cry on TV, Becky!

:04:36.:04:44.

I am in a very unique position in that I am able to have taken a

:04:45.:04:47.

14-year-old young man all the way to an Olympic Games as a world

:04:48.:04:51.

record-holder. I will always be thankful and humble about that

:04:52.:04:55.

process. You know what an Olympics can be like. It can throw all sorts

:04:56.:05:00.

of hurdles at you. But I have a boy who has never given in. So if I take

:05:01.:05:06.

him there, who knows? I always think at an Olympic Games, the amazing

:05:07.:05:10.

thing is that somebody comes out and goes hiya, and you have never heard

:05:11.:05:16.

of them. I was the underdog in Beijing. Adlington is going to be

:05:17.:05:21.

the gold medallist! Do you think there will be someone like that in

:05:22.:05:23.

the hundred metres breaststroke, or do you think, I'm the best? Mel has

:05:24.:05:30.

given me names, but unlike, if you put them next to me, then I will

:05:31.:05:34.

judge. It is not cockiness, it is more confidence. If someone does pop

:05:35.:05:40.

out, so be it. I welcome the challenge. Looking at my training

:05:41.:05:47.

and where I am in the gym, I am definitely in the strongest position

:05:48.:05:50.

I have ever been. So it is looking good, but still my first Olympics. I

:05:51.:05:56.

have proof I can go to my first World Championships and come back

:05:57.:05:59.

with a few medals and a world record, so I will just give my best

:06:00.:06:05.

possible performance. The phenomenal Adam Peaty, and

:06:06.:06:09.

tonight is his night. He goes in the final of the 100 metre breaststroke

:06:10.:06:17.

at 2.53, your time. It will be worth staying up for! Mark, I am so

:06:18.:06:20.

impressed with the way he is taking it all here. It is just another

:06:21.:06:24.

swimming race. It is easy saying that to yourself. Then they Olympic

:06:25.:06:33.

Games is the be all and end all and you are going oh, my god, this is

:06:34.:06:37.

the Olympic Games. But his attitude is, it is just another two lengths.

:06:38.:06:42.

And the bottom line is that it is and he just has to concentrate. Me,

:06:43.:06:47.

water, wall, and you forget everything else. He does have the

:06:48.:06:52.

confidence, and he is a bit like Usain Bolt. If he has a bad day, he

:06:53.:06:57.

can still win. He is that good. Who else is a potential danger? Cameron

:06:58.:07:07.

van der Burgh? I don't think anyone else will push him. Just wait a

:07:08.:07:14.

couple of hours. He will win the Olympic gold medal. It is just

:07:15.:07:18.

whether he will break the world record. Barring him falling in and

:07:19.:07:22.

bring a false start, they will not get near him. And it will not matter

:07:23.:07:27.

to him now that he is the favourite, that he is not the unknown and that

:07:28.:07:31.

he can't come into his first Olympics under the radar like Becky

:07:32.:07:37.

did? If you look back over what he has done in the last couple of

:07:38.:07:42.

years, the Commonwealth Games, the 100 breast and 50 breast, won both.

:07:43.:07:51.

He had come from nowhere. It is one thing being the hunter. He was

:07:52.:07:55.

hunting Cameron van der Burgh, and then he became Cameron van der

:07:56.:07:58.

Burgh. You learn a lot about a person when they are suddenly the

:07:59.:08:03.

target and how they react. Chasing is the easy thing. Suddenly, you are

:08:04.:08:06.

the best person and everyone is taking shots at you. He handles it

:08:07.:08:11.

so well and just keeps getting faster. It is interesting to see how

:08:12.:08:18.

fast he can go. He kicks differently to everyone else. People will start

:08:19.:08:22.

copying what he is doing. His attention to detail and what he does

:08:23.:08:26.

with Mel Marshall, it is about relationships and trust. If you have

:08:27.:08:33.

that trust and belief in the other person that whatever you throw at

:08:34.:08:35.

me, I will do because it will benefit me. Adam is young, 21. But

:08:36.:08:42.

he is not as young as this girl. The very youngest competitor in the

:08:43.:08:46.

whole Olympics lined up in the swimming. This is Gaurika Singh, 13

:08:47.:08:51.

years old. She survived the earthquake in Nepal in April last

:08:52.:08:55.

year. She sheltered under a table. She is in the green cap. She is

:08:56.:09:02.

going into the lead. This was in her heats. She was in Kathmandu when the

:09:03.:09:06.

earthquake struck for the Nepalese swimming Championships. She goes to

:09:07.:09:10.

school in London. She is starting ninth-grade next month. Here she is

:09:11.:09:14.

in the 100 metre backstroke heats. And it may not be the fastest time

:09:15.:09:21.

in the world, but Gaurika Singh is a winner at the Olympics because she

:09:22.:09:27.

touched first. She is just 13. Her father, by the way, works at the

:09:28.:09:30.

Royal Free Hospital. So they have plenty of friends in Nepal, but also

:09:31.:09:37.

in the UK and London specifically. Mark, always lovely to see you. Good

:09:38.:09:44.

luck tonight. Not you, but to Adam Peaty. Are you going to be there?

:09:45.:09:50.

Definitely. We have just got time to bring you the best of the match

:09:51.:09:52.

between Great Britain and New Zealand in the men's hockey.

:09:53.:10:02.

COMMENTATOR: Jackson has a look up, sizes up his opportunities. Great

:10:03.:10:13.

Britain with a chance to attack the New Zealand goal. It has found the

:10:14.:10:18.

back of the net, and Great Britain are off the mark, courtesy of David

:10:19.:10:28.

Condon. The ball fell kindly for Great Britain. That is a positive

:10:29.:10:35.

start. Condon strikes for the men in red. And New Zealand have equalised

:10:36.:10:46.

with a stunning strike, delivered by Cain Russell. It is a beautiful

:10:47.:10:55.

connection. A stunning overhead pass.

:10:56.:11:16.

What a goal! New Zealand out in front. Hayden Phillips supplies the

:11:17.:11:28.

perfect accompaniment. A great finish from Phillips on the

:11:29.:11:32.

backhand. New Zealand had the opportunity. What a first-time ball.

:11:33.:11:46.

Great second phase work from New Zealand. Phillips absolutely drive

:11:47.:11:49.

through it. It is a golfer Great Britain. They

:11:50.:12:05.

have done the job it was Barry Middleton -- it is a goal for Great

:12:06.:12:14.

Britain. Opens the wrists, finds Middleton. Confusion in the black

:12:15.:12:27.

sticks' defence. 2-2. And that is how it finished,

:12:28.:12:33.

with commentary from Matt Chilton and Simon Mason.

:12:34.:12:37.

Now, a very tight game in the rugby sevens. This is between the USA and

:12:38.:12:41.

New Zealand for the right to meet Great Britain in the semifinal, a

:12:42.:12:44.

decisive moment. Commentary comes from Eddie Butler.

:12:45.:13:00.

That is the first try of the quarterfinal. New Zealand are in the

:13:01.:13:14.

lead. A simple knock-on gives New Zealand the ball.

:13:15.:13:25.

Woodman needs no further opportunity.

:13:26.:13:38.

That was tough on the Americans. They had dominated the game.

:13:39.:13:47.

And New Zealand went through to maintain the lead and win that much.

:13:48.:13:51.

So they play Great Britain tomorrow in the semifinal and the final is

:13:52.:13:58.

also tomorrow. We will soon be switching to BBC One to round up

:13:59.:14:02.

what happened in the women's road race.

:14:03.:14:27.

Much better crowds here in the Olympic Park today, and those I have

:14:28.:14:33.

talked to have said the facility is much better. Queueing didn't take so

:14:34.:14:38.

long. Most of all, they are enjoying the sport, and that is what we will

:14:39.:14:42.

be bringing you on BBC One. See you there.

:14:43.:14:47.
