Welcome back to live coverage of the real Olympics here on BBC One. We

:00:21.:00:26.

are at the Maria Kirilenko Aquatics Centre for the ten-metre synchro. We

:00:27.:00:38.

will be seeing the third dive of Daley and Goodfellow. Let's rejoin

:00:39.:00:40.

our commentary team. To the Chinese, leaders after round

:00:41.:00:50.

one and round two. They are going with the reversed 3.5 somersaults

:00:51.:00:54.

with Tara, 3.4 degrees of difficulty.

:00:55.:00:59.

Spectacular! Is this their weakest dive? If there is a weakness in

:01:00.:01:12.

their armour, they are not showing it. Lin tipped his head to the side

:01:13.:01:23.

but it works for him. He has always had that slight idiosyncrasy and

:01:24.:01:27.

this is spot-on from the Chinese. They were catapulted themselves even

:01:28.:01:31.

further into the lead. They will be the first pair to score over 90

:01:32.:01:36.

points, and this is the easiest to dive, would you believe. I've a

:01:37.:01:42.

bullet-proof? Let's wait and see. Yes, you can say that because it

:01:43.:01:50.

isn't halfway yet. 92.82 lays down a significant market giving them a 16

:01:51.:01:53.

point advantage at the halfway stage at the moment. We still have Tom

:01:54.:02:00.

Daley and Daniel Goodfellow to go. They've gone for 3.2 difficulty.

:02:01.:02:13.

Can the British pair find themselves in third place? This is where it

:02:14.:02:19.

gets more complicated and intricate. And where things can go either very

:02:20.:02:25.

well or quite badly. Inward somersault with tuck. Yes, let's go,

:02:26.:02:33.

boys, well done. It was much better in training the other day. Just a

:02:34.:02:40.

little bit of splash coming up from both Daniel Goodfellow and Tom

:02:41.:02:44.

Daley. The synchronisation is good. They always have marginally

:02:45.:02:47.

different spin speeds but they hit the water the same time. Maybe

:02:48.:02:53.

Goodfellow hiking too soon and the judges might penalising them for

:02:54.:02:58.

that. Will they get close to 80 points? This is their lowest degree

:02:59.:03:03.

of difficulty at 3.2. It is just under 80 points. They are still in

:03:04.:03:08.

medal contention. Write on it and into third place they go on their

:03:09.:03:19.

own. A relatively new combination working all right Chen and Lin lead.

:03:20.:03:27.

Johnson and Boudia and second, Daley and Goodfellow just ahead of Garcia

:03:28.:03:34.

and Sanchez, who are just ahead of Shleikher and Minibaev, who are just

:03:35.:03:39.

ahead of Dolhov and Gorshkovozov. It isn't as high-scoring as I was

:03:40.:03:42.

expecting it potentially to be and we can look at the conditions, it's

:03:43.:03:48.

cold, windy, it's outdoors, the sun has gone down, the president of IOC

:03:49.:03:53.

is in here, and all the other factors that could be influencing.

:03:54.:03:58.

Anyway, that is three rounds done and we are halfway through. However,

:03:59.:04:03.

this is the lion's share of the points available in the last four

:04:04.:04:08.

rounds of dives because of the optional rounds of dives. We will

:04:09.:04:12.

see even more difficult dives coming through now. To give you an example,

:04:13.:04:20.

here we go. This is a dive everybody but two pairs all do it at some

:04:21.:04:25.

point. And it is a make or break dive, in many ways. Forward for

:04:26.:04:34.

somersaults. Forward 4.5 somersaults with tuck, count them on the way

:04:35.:04:38.

down. They've made a bit of a fudge of

:04:39.:04:58.

that one. 3.7 degrees of difficulty. The reason is it so challenging and

:04:59.:05:03.

difficult and the Russian pair here making a bit of a mess of that one.

:05:04.:05:10.

Both divers... Who is that closest to me? Minibaev lost his legs as he

:05:11.:05:16.

went in, almost splitting. So they're going to get low execution

:05:17.:05:21.

marks. Synchronisation will be fair to middling at best, and that is a

:05:22.:05:29.

very low scoring dive. 4.5 for the execution. That is a big dagger to

:05:30.:05:36.

the hard and we will have to see how the rest perform. The vagaries of

:05:37.:05:41.

the outdoor conditions might have an impact on that. That is not a school

:05:42.:05:46.

the Russians were looking for at all. Now, we come down just a notch

:05:47.:05:53.

to 3.6, and we're going backwards, not forwards this time, 3.5

:05:54.:05:58.

somersault is for the Germans, and this is one of the dives they

:05:59.:06:11.

normally do to order. They have certainly woken up. They were not

:06:12.:06:15.

happy with round three, which is normally very solid. This is a dive

:06:16.:06:21.

I've seen them make a mess of a specially when the pressure is on.

:06:22.:06:24.

They are silver-medallists from Beijing and they are rocking in.

:06:25.:06:29.

This will be over 90 points, it is huge, executed very well by both

:06:30.:06:33.

divers. The synchronisation is bang on. The coach is on his feet. Quite

:06:34.:06:41.

right, too. What's the damage? It's good. 92.8 eight. Best Buy a long

:06:42.:06:51.

way. That was one of the big dives. They've been doing some big dives

:06:52.:07:01.

all the way through. We have a very strange view, we are sideways on.

:07:02.:07:07.

You are seeing the crowd, they are not seeing the Russians, they are

:07:08.:07:12.

not seen the Mexicans either because they are hiding behind some

:07:13.:07:16.

concrete. If you are sideways on, they suddenly appear peekaboo

:07:17.:07:21.

fashion. Here is another forward 4.5. What can the Mexicans do,

:07:22.:07:24.

Garcia and Sanchez? The synchronisation all the way was

:07:25.:07:34.

excellent, just faltering as they entered the water so the execution

:07:35.:07:39.

marks will reflect that. I was holding my breath but they were

:07:40.:07:43.

spot-on all the way through that. They pump up into this forward 4.5.

:07:44.:07:49.

These guys rotate so quickly. Just a little bit off on both of their

:07:50.:07:54.

entries. What will we see here for the execution marks? Garcia on our

:07:55.:08:03.

right, he was short to vertical. Sanchez nailed his, he would get

:08:04.:08:07.

eight on his execution. Because of the difference in angle, the

:08:08.:08:10.

synchronisation won't get to more than eight. 82 to carry. Execution

:08:11.:08:21.

marks aren't brilliant either. They are slipping behind Germany now. So,

:08:22.:08:26.

Germany with that great round for dive have taken ten marks away from

:08:27.:08:29.

Mexico and put themselves in position a. But I haven't taken into

:08:30.:08:37.

account those still to come, including the bronze-medallist from

:08:38.:08:42.

London, Boudia, with the 20-year-old Johnson. Round four, reverse 3.5. I

:08:43.:08:50.

was wondering if they were going to do this. I thought it is going to be

:08:51.:08:57.

a punch-up between three teams for the silver and bronze. And the USA

:08:58.:09:02.

are coming out all guns blazing. That is two out of two for the

:09:03.:09:08.

optional dives. Superb diving from Boudia and Johnson. Well done, this

:09:09.:09:16.

pairing. 3.4 degrees of difficulty. 90 points... Can they get close to

:09:17.:09:22.

90? If they get nines on synchro, they will. No, 85.

:09:23.:09:31.

The marks with lines through don't add to the total. We have 11

:09:32.:09:42.

execution judges. Execution and synchronisation. That's why we end

:09:43.:09:50.

up with 85.684 the pair. Gives them a 9-point lead, still lots of time

:09:51.:09:59.

to go. In with 3.5 somersaults for Dolhov and Gorshkovozov. This is

:10:00.:10:07.

3.2. We have seen higher. That's the best we've seen from the Ukrainian

:10:08.:10:11.

pair. When they get it right, they are able to start putting pressure

:10:12.:10:16.

on everyone else. And that is fabulous diving. 3.5 inward in the

:10:17.:10:27.

tuck position, they are superb in synchronisation, and disappearing

:10:28.:10:32.

into the water, hardly a ripple of splash. Beautiful dives. When you

:10:33.:10:37.

get this low difficulty of dive right, you can get into the low 80s.

:10:38.:10:44.

They are just behind the USA, who lead. Two, three, and four are

:10:45.:10:57.

separated by five points. We still have Brazil, China, and Great

:10:58.:11:02.

Britain to come. So, this competition will change a great

:11:03.:11:07.

deal. A lot of the divers keep their very biggest dives towards the end.

:11:08.:11:16.

We've seen a couple of 3.7s already. These two, a much more scaled-down

:11:17.:11:22.

programme for them because of the capability of Rondinelli and Parisi.

:11:23.:11:28.

In with 3.5 for the Brazilians. They will get an amazing reception,

:11:29.:11:33.

whatever happens. Well, the synchronisation is OK and the

:11:34.:11:38.

execution of the dives is OK. Well, fair to middling, if I'm honest.

:11:39.:11:43.

Both divers throwing up a tonne of splash for different reasons. One

:11:44.:11:47.

wasn't getting his hands and arms locked up. So there are only going

:11:48.:11:59.

to get about six, 6.5. You can see, hitting the water, not locking out

:12:00.:12:03.

and keeping the splashdown. They are being outclassed in this final. The

:12:04.:12:10.

judges are not the most popular people in this arena. The Brazilian

:12:11.:12:13.

fans aren't happy with what they're getting but they are getting the

:12:14.:12:23.

right marks. They are still not cast adrift, they'll still in touch with

:12:24.:12:27.

the Russians, only seven points behind. To our leaders, that very

:12:28.:12:37.

impressive third round, one of their lower tariff dives, and now we get

:12:38.:12:42.

to the bigger stuff for Chen and Lin, world champions last year. Back

:12:43.:12:49.

3.5 somersaults with pike. Are we in the upper 90s for this one? It is

:12:50.:12:56.

still world-class. The synchronisation is spot-on. A little

:12:57.:13:03.

bit short of vertical but they are bang on in synchronisation. We were

:13:04.:13:07.

having a conversation just before we started and I said, OK, have the

:13:08.:13:12.

Chinese got a bogey dive and he said this is the one. I have to agree

:13:13.:13:18.

with him. This is a lowish scoring dive by Chinese standards. Beautiful

:13:19.:13:23.

pike shape, just completely flat on the thighs but they are short of

:13:24.:13:31.

vertical. They can only get tens or sevens. Let's have a look. Go on,

:13:32.:13:37.

judges, show us what you've done. You're right! Eight on the synchro

:13:38.:13:46.

is correct and the judges have done a good job there. China go into

:13:47.:13:55.

first place. 16 points clear of the field. Now, then. Tom and Dan, Daley

:13:56.:14:05.

and Goodfellow. They're going up through the gears now. From the 3.2

:14:06.:14:11.

to 3.4 on this reverse 3.5. Oh, I almost jumped out of my chair.

:14:12.:14:26.

The aerial work was spot-on, the synchronisation was bang on. Just

:14:27.:14:32.

Dan throwing up some splash as he entered the water. You can see the

:14:33.:14:38.

splash coming up, you can hear the frustration my voice. The boys were

:14:39.:14:44.

on. The synchronisation will be affected by Daniel Goodfellow not

:14:45.:14:49.

keeping the splashdown. So, the three execution marks for Goodfellow

:14:50.:14:57.

R 7.5. Tom Daley gets 8.5 and nine. 81 points is still good so they are

:14:58.:15:02.

still in this fight, and that is exactly what it is, a fight. We will

:15:03.:15:08.

see how big the fighters and how big the size of the dog is when we see

:15:09.:15:12.

the end tally for round four. It looks like this. China have an

:15:13.:15:20.

appreciable lead over the USA. Germany have moved up into third.

:15:21.:15:26.

Mexico, Great Britain and Ukraine are in there. Russia are possibly

:15:27.:15:32.

too far away. And Brazil, you get the numbers.

:15:33.:15:44.

A lot of studious looking faces, thoughts going in as to what is to

:15:45.:15:49.

come. Great Britain will finish with 3.7,

:15:50.:16:03.

four and a half somersaults forward, and 3.6 in the end, so big tariffs

:16:04.:16:09.

for everybody with the exception of the Brazilians, everyone goes for

:16:10.:16:14.

broke. This is round five. The moving round. They can put down

:16:15.:16:23.

their little claims for a medal. Because nobody really has broken

:16:24.:16:27.

away after the Chinese, everyone else grouped together. Russia, back

:16:28.:16:35.

three and a half with pike. Much better from the Russians. They will

:16:36.:16:42.

have been happy with their four, four and a half turn, this is almost

:16:43.:16:49.

an equal degree of Dick difficulty. We saw the Germans buried there. It

:16:50.:16:55.

looked like a bit of carnival in training, everything going on at

:16:56.:16:58.

different times. But the Russians got it together this time. They will

:16:59.:17:03.

be just shy of 90 points if the judges give them a .5 on Synchro,

:17:04.:17:14.

which I think they will. -- 8.5. Nikita Shleikher and Victor Minibaev

:17:15.:17:22.

talking to their coach. He never seems overly excited by what is

:17:23.:17:26.

going on. There will be a few points and observations to pass on. That is

:17:27.:17:32.

a good mark for the Russians, by far their highest so far. Now it is the

:17:33.:17:38.

Germans, a little bit of a head of steam up from the last round. But it

:17:39.:17:45.

is all go again on the reverse. This is not a big tariff dive. You say

:17:46.:17:52.

that but I beg to differ. 3.4 is still huge. We are still right up

:17:53.:17:58.

there in the most complicated dives possible and every pair has to cover

:17:59.:18:03.

all six groups. This is the reverse. You need to jump away from the

:18:04.:18:07.

diving board and spin back towards it. The Germans will get mid-80s on

:18:08.:18:11.

this and they will be cementing their position right in the medals

:18:12.:18:17.

at the end of this round five. No wonder the coaches are happy, the

:18:18.:18:21.

head coach punching the air. The Germans are on it. Cementing their

:18:22.:18:30.

middle order recovery. Good succession marks.

:18:31.:18:39.

Puts them at the head of the field for the time being. Remember these

:18:40.:18:53.

boys, on the biggest dive of all. This is a relatively comfortable

:18:54.:19:01.

dive. 3.7, 3.8, but this is not too shabby. They are all big tariff

:19:02.:19:05.

dyes! All of them, they are all incredibly difficult. 3.3 for Garcia

:19:06.:19:13.

and Sanchez, the Mexicans. The Mexicans are still in there. Bravery

:19:14.:19:21.

under this mounting pressure. Dive after dive, the Mexicans playing it

:19:22.:19:26.

a little safe. Not using their inward four and a half. This is the

:19:27.:19:31.

easiest dive at 3.3 and it is not easy. They are playing at the little

:19:32.:19:37.

safe. Have they played it too safe? I don't believe they will get over

:19:38.:19:42.

80 points on this. They will have to wait and see where they stand on

:19:43.:19:45.

this fifth round. They are diving well. Silver-medallists four years

:19:46.:19:51.

ago. Have they got another medal in them? I'm not sure. They do that big

:19:52.:20:00.

dive right at the end, big, big dive in relative terms. 3.8 to round off,

:20:01.:20:07.

when everyone else only going as high as 3.7 so that would give them

:20:08.:20:12.

appreciably more marks. Boudia and Johnson into round five. This could

:20:13.:20:19.

be calamitous or it can work quite well. How will go for and Johnson.

:20:20.:20:28.

It is good, it is very good. It is often calamitous. We haven't seen

:20:29.:20:33.

anyone hit this dive, we have four pairs doing it this round and this

:20:34.:20:38.

is the US pair's best effort. Four, four and a half somersaults. Johnson

:20:39.:20:45.

a little further away from the diving board. Landing quite short

:20:46.:20:51.

and vertical. He will get caned on his entrance and he should.

:20:52.:20:58.

The coach likes it but of course Stott they always do. They always

:20:59.:21:08.

do. I think Steele Johnson got away with it a little bit there. As a

:21:09.:21:14.

rule of thumb, don't look at the faces of the coaches to see how good

:21:15.:21:20.

a dive is, they will never tell you that. We can go like-for-like on

:21:21.:21:27.

this dive, apart from the Brazilians. It is like playing your

:21:28.:21:38.

joker, if it works. Dolgov and Gorshkovozov for Ukraine. You have

:21:39.:21:41.

seen it a few times. Here it comes again. They have made a hodgepodge

:21:42.:21:48.

of it. It is all over the show. It shows you how difficult it is. Can

:21:49.:21:54.

you get it right when it counts? You can see their expressions as they

:21:55.:21:59.

swim to the side. All the aerial work is spot on and then they look

:22:00.:22:03.

like an octopus spraying its arms everywhere as they go into the

:22:04.:22:09.

water. Arms and legs everywhere. The Ukrainians fall straight out of the

:22:10.:22:13.

back door. They are no longer in the running. Not good at all. That

:22:14.:22:25.

probably, though not categorically, has done for their medal prospects.

:22:26.:22:26.

That tells you all you need to know. It is starting to open out a bit

:22:27.:22:40.

now. So we know who is in contention and who isn't. These will not be but

:22:41.:22:45.

they will give the crowd a bit of fun.

:22:46.:22:51.

The Brazil will possibly try to finish in seventh place and they are

:22:52.:22:56.

not 1 million miles away from doing that. They have to finish strongly.

:22:57.:23:03.

They are just telling the crowd to be quiet because they are getting a

:23:04.:23:06.

little excited. That was their bogey dive and it is

:23:07.:23:16.

probably the most difficult dive they will be performing today. It is

:23:17.:23:21.

the easiest dive we see from the other pairs so the Brazilians in

:23:22.:23:25.

this final as host nation and they are rising to the occasion but that

:23:26.:23:29.

is pretty ordinary, fair to middling. It is a reflection of

:23:30.:23:35.

where they are as a pair. Over rotation.

:23:36.:23:49.

Rondinelli right over on his sides as he goes in. Three C -- Parisi

:23:50.:24:02.

overcorrected. We move onto our leaders at the front. Since the very

:24:03.:24:11.

start. The first, second, third, fourth round. This is their forward

:24:12.:24:16.

four and a half. Is there a chance the Chinese could falter? It would

:24:17.:24:23.

be honest if at all. What a dive! What a dive! That is remarkable.

:24:24.:24:31.

Wholly moly, that is something else. They were siren is going on in the

:24:32.:24:32.

background. What a dive. This is perfect, this

:24:33.:24:48.

will get over 100 points. The Chinese are way out in front. I do

:24:49.:24:55.

not know what to say about that. Diving perfection. Well deserved as

:24:56.:25:11.

well. 106. 106.56 to give it its total mark.

:25:12.:25:17.

Tom Daley, Dan Goodfellow, the same dive right after that. 106.56, just

:25:18.:25:28.

going to read that back to you again. That is ridiculous and gives

:25:29.:25:33.

them a lead of 36. Say goodbye, China. Say goodbye. Second and third

:25:34.:25:39.

is very much still up for grabs and these two can grab it. Either Tom

:25:40.:25:48.

Daley, Dan Goodfellow. Good luck. Well done, boys. Not as good as the

:25:49.:25:53.

Chinese but the best dive this pair have done today. Staying in

:25:54.:25:57.

contention, they really needed to nail this and they have some

:25:58.:26:00.

catching up to do. The Germans are right there. Our boys needed to dig

:26:01.:26:05.

deep and find something from the bottom of their toy box and they

:26:06.:26:10.

needed to make it count. That will help them, getting over 90 points.

:26:11.:26:15.

They will squeeze in right up there in medal contention with one dive to

:26:16.:26:24.

go. Well done, boys. He the marks. -- here come the marks. China, USA,

:26:25.:26:34.

Great Britain, one, two, three, with one round to go and there is not

:26:35.:26:39.

much margin for error between three and five, to be honest, at the

:26:40.:26:44.

moment. This is what it looks like right now. Cheng and Lin away with

:26:45.:26:46.

the fairies. -- Chen. What are you thinking, Neil Taylor?

:26:47.:27:18.

Just looking down the list of dives, 3.6 from the Germans versus 3.6 from

:27:19.:27:26.

the US versus 3.6 from the British pair. That is the fight for those

:27:27.:27:30.

medals. They are like-for-like degree of difficulty. Our boys not

:27:31.:27:35.

doing a back two and a half somersaults with two and a half

:27:36.:27:39.

twists. They are doing three and a half somersaults in the pike

:27:40.:27:45.

position. I have seen them do it so well in training. The pressure is

:27:46.:27:50.

on. This is what the Olympic Games is all about. Can you do it when it

:27:51.:27:55.

counts? I have faith in them. I believe they can, let's wait and

:27:56.:28:00.

see. Have you found the edge of your seat? That is where you are right

:28:01.:28:05.

now. Last round of the men's synchronised ten-metre platform

:28:06.:28:12.

final. Gold probably China's but silver and bronze, who knows?

:28:13.:28:21.

6.3 degrees of difficulty for Shleikher and Hausding. Their diving

:28:22.:28:30.

has been pretty consistent all the way through. As in previous dives,

:28:31.:28:35.

execution letting them down ever so slightly. You cannot afford to keep

:28:36.:28:40.

making those mistakes dive after dive at this level of competition.

:28:41.:28:46.

Every dive counts. We will see this level of difficulty a couple of

:28:47.:28:50.

times in this final round. Russia waiting nervously for their scores.

:28:51.:28:54.

They will not be in the medals today. It will not be their day,

:28:55.:29:03.

Shleikher and Minibaev. They never got into the 90s. That is a

:29:04.:29:09.

reasonable way to round things off but it won't be anywhere near enough

:29:10.:29:12.

to be a medal contender. Raring to go on the board are being

:29:13.:29:36.

silver-medallists from 2008 in Beijing, Hausding and Klein. The

:29:37.:29:43.

lights are on, full effect now. It has got much darker because we're

:29:44.:29:49.

between winter and spring in Brazil. Starting to get dark at 5pm local

:29:50.:29:56.

time. As we watched this back, 2.5 somersaults and twists for the

:29:57.:29:57.

Germans. It is good. But it isn't excellent.

:29:58.:30:13.

3.6 degrees of difficulty, a huge dive, 2.5 twists, folding down into

:30:14.:30:18.

the pike shape, but there is a bicycle sized gap in between them.

:30:19.:30:22.

The judges don't penalised that as heavily as differing timings into

:30:23.:30:27.

the water. It will be interesting to see. The judges know this is close

:30:28.:30:31.

and every single half Mark will count. Wow, will this be good enough

:30:32.:30:37.

for the 2008 silver-medallists to be in the mix for a medal? Will they

:30:38.:30:44.

get close to 90 points? Will it be mid-80s? I'm guessing its mid-80s.

:30:45.:30:58.

86.4 for Germany, they finish on 438. Daley and Goodfellow go last.

:30:59.:31:12.

Germany have given themselves a chance of a medal. Onto the Mexicans

:31:13.:31:18.

now. We told you about this, we flagged it up. The graphic on the

:31:19.:31:25.

screen, there's so much going on, for 2.5 somersaults, three twists.

:31:26.:31:32.

The biggest Gopher broke today. They are at the top of their shop.

:31:33.:31:40.

They've saved the best till last. This is a huge dive. They've left

:31:41.:31:47.

themselves too much to do for a medal today. Our silver-medallists

:31:48.:31:51.

four years ago will be just outside the medals today, I predict, but

:31:52.:31:57.

they finished in style. Three twists, 2.5 somersault is. Wow, pick

:31:58.:32:00.

the bones out of that. Loads of things going on. Little bit too much

:32:01.:32:08.

splash, execution marks will be low but that huge degree of difficulty

:32:09.:32:12.

will carry them through over 80 points, I suspect, but they will

:32:13.:32:16.

have needed close to 100 to be back in the running. Let's see. We wait.

:32:17.:32:27.

It won't be enough on the day. It puts them in second place, but we

:32:28.:32:31.

still have China, USA, and Great Britain still to go. The Mexicans

:32:32.:32:44.

finish 15 points behind Germany. Now, Johnson. They are eight points

:32:45.:32:49.

up on Tom and Dan, so that is a bit of a lead. Great Britain and USA

:32:50.:33:00.

both doing 3.6 dives, but they are different dives, however. Boudia and

:33:01.:33:10.

Johnson. Wow, America have just put the gauntlet down. I think they have

:33:11.:33:16.

secured themselves a medal with that one. Wow! What a dive for the US to

:33:17.:33:26.

finish. That is definitely good enough for a medal. What colour? Who

:33:27.:33:32.

knows, let's wait and see. Execution is bang on. These guys have been

:33:33.:33:37.

under pressure, dive after dive, and they've responded. They are waiting

:33:38.:33:41.

and waiting for the schools to come up, as we are. What will they be?

:33:42.:33:48.

The crowd is cheering but we are still waiting for it. They pretty

:33:49.:33:57.

much no. Johnson is gone, and Boudia is going to follow him. 95.04 for

:33:58.:34:06.

the USA! Massive finish. They can go and do a lap of honour. It might be

:34:07.:34:10.

premature because there are more divers to come, but that is a USA

:34:11.:34:18.

level of some description. Great Britain will need 103 to top that.

:34:19.:34:24.

So, it doesn't look like it's going to be USA below GB. There is still

:34:25.:34:32.

that medal to be had, and there's still some more permutations before

:34:33.:34:41.

we conclude this event. Dolhov and Gorshkovozov have given their all, a

:34:42.:34:45.

decent account of themselves but they are down on the last dive,

:34:46.:34:52.

which has scuppered their chances. They've saved the best till last!

:34:53.:34:57.

Too much to do on the last round dive but the Ukrainians have

:34:58.:34:59.

finished with a marvellous effort there. That is almost as good as the

:35:00.:35:09.

US divers we've just seen. Wow. This is an extraordinary last round.

:35:10.:35:15.

Loving every second of this competition. The pressure is

:35:16.:35:19.

mounting. Super slow motion, one of the assistant referees there, one of

:35:20.:35:23.

the judges in reserve, taking a photo in the background. This is a

:35:24.:35:27.

competition that you will want to watch again. Are they happy with

:35:28.:35:31.

their final marks? They should be. So, Ukraine in fourth place, as

:35:32.:35:57.

things are. So, it is USA, Germany, Mexico, and still three more pairs

:35:58.:36:03.

to come. Mexico know full well China will usurp them. There's still some

:36:04.:36:10.

toing and froing before this event is done and dusted, as it will be in

:36:11.:36:15.

three dives time. Good to see the Brazilians end on a high. Maybe they

:36:16.:36:21.

can. The crowd will give them a rapturous reception once they've

:36:22.:36:30.

concluded this dive. It is an easy dive to finish on. 3.2, not hers

:36:31.:36:38.

difficult as many of the other divers we've seen. It has been a

:36:39.:36:42.

good outing for the Brazilians. I was watching them prepare for this

:36:43.:36:50.

and I thought they'd be much further back. They are diving in front of a

:36:51.:36:55.

home crowd, home Olympic Games, it doesn't get better than that, well

:36:56.:37:03.

done, team Brazil. They will conclude on 268.52. So, yes, decent

:37:04.:37:13.

showing. Certainly not disgraced by any means, Rondinelli and Parisi.

:37:14.:37:18.

Their day pass Mac work is done, they are happy with it and happy

:37:19.:37:22.

from the crowd's reaction. Two more pairs to come. Mexico waiting to see

:37:23.:37:30.

if those medals can be secured. The USA know they have a medal of some

:37:31.:37:36.

description. It's up to the Chinese to throw everything at this. They

:37:37.:37:43.

fled all the way through. Is there a twist in the tail? Not on the basis

:37:44.:37:47.

of that ridiculous 106 in round five. Every dive has to be taken in

:37:48.:37:52.

isolation, however, and this is how they will finish.

:37:53.:38:02.

Yes, unfaltering, they've absolutely annihilated the field. Chen and Lin

:38:03.:38:12.

are the Olympic champions, beyond a shadow of a doubt. What a

:38:13.:38:16.

performance from this team. We knew on paper they were likely to run

:38:17.:38:20.

away with it, and they've done just that. Unwavering, unfaltering,

:38:21.:38:28.

unflappable, unbelievable. All of those things, and that's why the

:38:29.:38:33.

Chinese are so good. They are poles apart. They've just highlighted why

:38:34.:38:43.

today. We're still waiting for the score. Nearly 500 points! If my

:38:44.:38:56.

calculations are right, and we don't have it on the screen, 86 required

:38:57.:39:08.

by Daley and Goodfellow... For bronze? Yes, for bronze. I'm doing

:39:09.:39:18.

my own calculation is, but I think 86 is roughly about right for this

:39:19.:39:22.

medal. Are they in a position to do that? They have enough marks

:39:23.:39:27.

available for them to do it. It will have to be spot-on. This will have

:39:28.:39:32.

to be so, so good. It is tougher than some of the ones we've seen for

:39:33.:39:34.

the same tariff. 86 and a medal, anything else and

:39:35.:39:49.

they will just miss out. Oh, will it be enough? It is so good, the

:39:50.:39:55.

Germans are looking on. The British have absolutely nailed it! It is

:39:56.:40:02.

just a little bit out of sync. This will be oh so close, I have no idea

:40:03.:40:07.

how this will go. The Germans are on for three April four two. -- 400

:40:08.:40:15.

38.4 two. Look at the expressions on their faces. Let's wait and see,

:40:16.:40:21.

will it be bronze or and agonising fourth place? I have no idea. We

:40:22.:40:27.

have no idea. Come on, judges, press those buttons. They've done it! They

:40:28.:40:35.

have done it! We haven't seen it, but we need to give you that

:40:36.:40:40.

information! They have seen it, the crowd have seen it! It is Daley and

:40:41.:40:45.

Department Mark who usurp the Germans with their very last dive.

:40:46.:40:54.

There is the confirmation. Daley and Goodfellow are bronze-medallist in

:40:55.:40:56.

the men's synchronised ten-metre platform. They nailed their last

:40:57.:41:03.

dive. It is China, USA and Great Britain.

:41:04.:41:13.

What a finish! Unbelievable! We had to wait so long. It was agony, the

:41:14.:41:19.

Germans didn't know. The Britons didn't know. They looked and they

:41:20.:41:24.

looked and we still waited. And eventually the keypad is told.

:41:25.:41:31.

89.64, they've beaten the Germans by six points. What an amazing

:41:32.:41:43.

turnaround. They were up very early, then they slipped slightly off the

:41:44.:41:48.

pace, and they knew they had to do a really good dive, and that was a

:41:49.:41:54.

tremendous dive to round off for Daley and Goodfellow. There were 90s

:41:55.:42:02.

for Chen and Lin, and 90s for Boudia and Johnson, they were away, they

:42:03.:42:07.

were never going to catch them, but Daley and Goodfellow get the bronze

:42:08.:42:11.

medal in the men's synchronised ten-metre platform final, and just

:42:12.:42:16.

to round up how everybody else did... Germany in fourth, Mexico,

:42:17.:42:20.

the bronze-medallists four years ago, we expected them to challenge

:42:21.:42:23.

but they didn't get their act together, even on the big dive at

:42:24.:42:29.

the end. They fell short. Russia were disappointed, they've had a

:42:30.:42:31.

decent year. There is your confirmation. We are only looking at

:42:32.:42:38.

the top three. China, USA, Great Britain. It is bronze for Tom Daley,

:42:39.:42:48.

as it was in the individual four years ago, this time partnered by

:42:49.:42:53.

Daniel Goodfellow. Great Britain has a bronze medal in the first men's

:42:54.:42:54.

diving event of Rio 2016. Oh, my word, the tension of the

:42:55.:43:05.

final dive, you could see it on Tom Daley's face. He said after London

:43:06.:43:09.

2012 he'd only entered the synchrotron petition if you found a

:43:10.:43:13.

partner with him he could win a medal. They've done that. Our second

:43:14.:43:18.

bronze medal of the day after Ed Ling took the bronze in the trap

:43:19.:43:25.

shooting. And adding to the gold and silver, courtesy of Adam Peaty and

:43:26.:43:29.

Jazz Carlin. It is a very interesting arena, this, because it

:43:30.:43:34.

is open air, and it is a dark, stormy, windy night, conditions were

:43:35.:43:37.

difficult. It was a wonderful contest for the gold medal,

:43:38.:43:41.

eventually won by China ahead of the USA. You'll remember David Boudia,

:43:42.:43:46.

part of the USA team winning the individual gold medal in London.

:43:47.:43:52.

Slightly disappointing, they were hoping to beat the Chinese but

:43:53.:43:58.

bronze for Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow, a fantastic result! They

:43:59.:44:01.

slipped down the leaderboard after their fourth dive, just not quite on

:44:02.:44:06.

it, but the fifth dive, the Ford 4.5 took them back up into the bronze

:44:07.:44:12.

medal position. Leon Taylor is making his way towards me and we

:44:13.:44:15.

will get his reaction to a thrilling finale of the diving. He is punching

:44:16.:44:24.

the air! They did it, they did it, what's your reaction? Nail-biting

:44:25.:44:27.

stuff. I'd no idea what way it was going to go. When they hit the

:44:28.:44:31.

water, honestly, I just stood there, and we were thinking, have they done

:44:32.:44:36.

it? You could see the tension on their faces and the scoreboard came

:44:37.:44:40.

to live, and it is a well-deserved bronze medal. They did it the hard

:44:41.:44:45.

way, they held their form all the way through. Six consistently good

:44:46.:44:50.

dive spot the Chinese were impressive. Very impressive but

:44:51.:44:54.

let's have another look at Tom and Dan's sixth and final dive. They

:44:55.:44:59.

knew they had to get the high 80s to get a medal. This dive can go either

:45:00.:45:08.

way. There was a slight difference in their entry into the water from a

:45:09.:45:12.

differing distance from the diving board. That was the only fault but

:45:13.:45:17.

they both executed it well. Then that nervous what felt like ten

:45:18.:45:21.

minute wait before the scores came up. The reaction was amazing. His

:45:22.:45:26.

mum is here. Sadly, his dad is no longer with us. But his husband to

:45:27.:45:30.

be as here as well. He's got loads of support. It's very, very tense

:45:31.:45:36.

for those watching, those who know how much she's been through. Both of

:45:37.:45:40.

them have trained so hard. It's so intense. So it is a straight final,

:45:41.:45:47.

there is no preliminary. Every single dive counts. It's hard enough

:45:48.:45:51.

doing it but watching your loved ones doing it, watching them go

:45:52.:45:55.

through blood, sweat and tears, Daniel Goodfellow had an injury

:45:56.:45:59.

which meant that he'd never be able to dive again. They've worked so

:46:00.:46:04.

hard. They are a new pair but they've done it today, Olympic

:46:05.:46:05.

bronze medal. Has been living in Tom's flagged for

:46:06.:46:18.

last month? Yes, you have to spend the time and build the cake. So many

:46:19.:46:23.

hours of training a day. You have the ice and decorate the cake and

:46:24.:46:26.

that is fine tuning and they have been doing it over the past few

:46:27.:46:31.

months. It worked really well for them. How difficult is it for them

:46:32.:46:39.

to achieve this level? How long have they been diving? They are a

:46:40.:46:44.

relatively new pairing. Just watching the athletes come by, the

:46:45.:46:47.

Germans have been together for many years but it is about whether you

:46:48.:46:51.

can do it on the day. They have been working hard, the training has been

:46:52.:46:55.

doing well. They didn't dive as well as they have been doing in training.

:46:56.:47:01.

Some disappointed faces going by but our boys will be smiling and quite

:47:02.:47:06.

right as well, very proud of them. How difficult are these conditions?

:47:07.:47:09.

A swirling wind and overcast conditions. It does add to it. We

:47:10.:47:20.

saw last night, the girls were being buffeted by the wind and the boys

:47:21.:47:24.

this evening. You can see when they are standing there composing

:47:25.:47:28.

themselves, their hair is being swept, it does put you off ever so

:47:29.:47:33.

slightly. You have to deal with the conditions. Tom has been quoted

:47:34.:47:36.

saying, I hope it rains because we are from the UK and we are used to

:47:37.:47:41.

dealing with it. It did threaten. But what an occasion. We won't get

:47:42.:47:46.

an interview with the medallists until after the ceremony. Stay with

:47:47.:47:52.

us for that. They have won a bronze medal and we will be speaking to

:47:53.:48:02.

them straight after the ceremony. In the trap shooting earlier, Ed Ling

:48:03.:48:08.

from Taunton won a bronze. It was a tremendous performance from him in

:48:09.:48:13.

his third Olympics. He won a shoot off to win that bronze medal match.

:48:14.:48:22.

He beat the 2008 Olympic champion. A bit of a shaky start but he hit 13

:48:23.:48:27.

of the next 14 and this is in collecting his Olympic bronze medal.

:48:28.:48:36.

. The winner from Taunton, and a real test of accuracy and nerve. We

:48:37.:48:44.

will be showing new gymnastics very shortly also. Tom Daley refocusing

:48:45.:48:50.

for the ten-metre platform which I think is on Friday. This will give

:48:51.:48:57.

him a huge boost. You cannot stay ready for ten days, you have to let

:48:58.:49:03.

things calm down. Tom Daley will celebrate this and let things sink

:49:04.:49:08.

in and do some media relaxation. He will leave the village for a while.

:49:09.:49:22.

He needs to let things calm down and re-energise and refocus. Get used to

:49:23.:49:28.

not standing next to somebody else. Here's an Olympic medallist twice

:49:29.:49:31.

over so let's see if he can get one to finish off on the 19th and 20th.

:49:32.:49:35.

It could be better than bronze. It could even be a gold medal? Let's

:49:36.:49:41.

just hope for another medal. We're hoping for a medal from the

:49:42.:49:46.

gymnasts, the men's team. That very similar to diving in terms of the

:49:47.:49:52.

rotations, accuracy. In gymnastics, they do it inside and on dry land.

:49:53.:50:01.

Repetition. It is an art. Day in, day out.

:50:02.:50:06.

Mastering skills, building your strength. There are no short cuts.

:50:07.:50:28.

They say practice makes perfect. And it is true. This is about precision,

:50:29.:50:39.

fine tuning, but most of all, it is about passion. That is what drives

:50:40.:50:47.

you to be better, gives you strength to go again and again. So you keep

:50:48.:50:53.

going. Until you are ready to deliver. When it really counts.

:50:54.:51:01.

You saw some of them there, the British men's team, consisting of

:51:02.:51:15.

Max Whitlock, Lewis Smith, Kristian Thomas, and Brinn Bevan. They are

:51:16.:51:19.

using all of the apparatus and it is a tough competition. They could

:51:20.:51:22.

certainly win a medal and this is the story so far.

:51:23.:51:30.

Where are we going to go with this? Where are we going to put our money

:51:31.:51:39.

because it could go anywhere. The definition of power, brace yourself

:51:40.:51:40.

this. He gets off to a flying start. Now he gets a big dismount. Russia

:51:41.:51:59.

on the pommel horse. That was a great routine.

:52:00.:52:05.

Oh, dear, something is not going to plan.

:52:06.:52:16.

That was a beautiful two and a half twist. Such an exciting, dynamic

:52:17.:52:28.

young gymnast. Six star value. It will be hard. Wow. .

:52:29.:52:36.

That was right on the top of his game. These guys are making these

:52:37.:52:41.

hugely difficult faults looks so simple. It looks as if it could well

:52:42.:52:49.

be between Russia, Germany, Japan and Great Britain.

:52:50.:52:57.

The halfway stage and Great Britain are lying in third place. Let's hand

:52:58.:53:04.

you over to Matt Baker to update you. We will bring you an interview

:53:05.:53:09.

with Dan Goodfellow and Tom Daley later on. Matt Baker what a men's

:53:10.:53:17.

team final. We said it would be a close one and as it stands, Great

:53:18.:53:22.

Britain are in third, Japan in second and Russia lead this men's

:53:23.:53:28.

Olympic team final. You join us for the USA who are on vault and they

:53:29.:53:32.

are down in seventh. They are the highest qualifiers but doing

:53:33.:53:35.

everything they can, as you are witnessing from watching this

:53:36.:53:42.

faults, -- vault, this is extraordinary gymnastics. They are a

:53:43.:53:47.

little bit down the leaderboard so they will want to get every single

:53:48.:53:52.

ten they can. They are sticking all their landings and not giving

:53:53.:53:53.

anything away. Jacob Bolton, the second of the US

:53:54.:54:07.

gymnasts and as we said, two triple twists, they have stuck so far. This

:54:08.:54:13.

is the 25-year-old from the USA, he became a father this year. Fourth

:54:14.:54:22.

highest qualifiers on the vault. What can the US do as a team? A

:54:23.:54:32.

super controlled double vault in the pike position. The USA are not going

:54:33.:54:38.

to sit down and roll over and let people beat them. They are fighting

:54:39.:54:42.

back. They might have struggled on their least favourite pieces but

:54:43.:54:51.

they are going for it now. Mariano, the first of the Brazilian gymnasts

:54:52.:54:57.

on the high bar. The USA have this real urgency about their gymnastics.

:54:58.:55:05.

Germany were in second. From three pieces of apparatus. That was a

:55:06.:55:13.

special opening tumble, one and a half twists, punched double front.

:55:14.:55:20.

He had an injury on the floor in qualification and it quite through

:55:21.:55:21.

them. This is smooth floor work now. They have to stay inside the

:55:22.:55:37.

12-metre square and they have to stay inside the white section of the

:55:38.:55:46.

floor. But they have to run and do fantastically difficult tumbles as

:55:47.:55:50.

you can see there. The aim is to land with control, without any

:55:51.:56:00.

steps. And have a big final tumble. Here it is, triple twist, very nice

:56:01.:56:06.

floor work. Goodness me, Germany in fifth at the moment. Second for the

:56:07.:56:10.

first two rotations so they will have to try to knock Brazil out of

:56:11.:56:15.

that fourth spot. Brazil working on high bar at the moment. That is

:56:16.:56:20.

where Great Britain will be shortly. This is superb tumbling. I'm not

:56:21.:56:25.

100% certain but I think you nailed every single landing. Some difficult

:56:26.:56:32.

tumbles as well. That was the triple at the finish. Very much the

:56:33.:56:39.

favoured final tumble for most gymnasts in this competition. You

:56:40.:56:44.

have to finish with a D difficulty or above. The third of the US

:56:45.:56:57.

vaulters. Things going well in camp USA at the moment. Looking very

:56:58.:57:00.

relaxed. It is an anxious wait, it will be a

:57:01.:57:14.

real fight between them and Brazil. Just a reminder, Great Britain in

:57:15.:57:18.

third, Japan in second and Russia are first. Russia having a storming

:57:19.:57:25.

competition. They are and they are showing some of that form in class

:57:26.:57:28.

that they showed that the Europeans earlier this year. They look on

:57:29.:57:37.

fire. Kohei Uchimura, regarded as the finest gymnast on the planet.

:57:38.:57:44.

Team gold is something he desperately wants for Japan. If you

:57:45.:57:54.

hold that slightly too long on one bar, you won't get credit. But I

:57:55.:57:58.

think that was perfect. Just missed handstand there. Nicely back into

:57:59.:58:04.

the swing of things. Really good combination of elements

:58:05.:58:25.

there. He seems to have settled down after the nervous start. Double

:58:26.:58:33.

pike, small stop. That is how you do the bar routine. Absolute style,

:58:34.:58:38.

beautiful, full of grit all the way through. Just beautiful to watch.

:58:39.:58:41.

Slight little errors in the middle so there is tension there. That is

:58:42.:58:44.

where he was a little nervous. Schools muck on the floor, you have

:58:45.:58:57.

to do something special for. -- scores on the floor.

:58:58.:59:06.

The tuck backward half two. Can be quite difficult. Makes sure he kicks

:59:07.:59:27.

out of all of his double back somersaults.

:59:28.:59:34.

There was the combination of elements that makes his routine

:59:35.:59:39.

standout. Japan were 0.7 ahead of Great

:59:40.:59:56.

Britain in that silver medal spot at the halfway stage. 6.8 difficulty.

:59:57.:00:10.

Some booing going on around the arena, not sure what that is for. I

:00:11.:00:25.

think it is Sergio Sasaki's low score. Less than the crowd wanted.

:00:26.:00:39.

As soon as these gymnasts are complete... It is like half-time

:00:40.:00:44.

within each rotation, where the country's swap over. In this team

:00:45.:00:50.

final, all three scores count of the three gymnasts that had up to the

:00:51.:00:54.

apparatus, so there is real pressure. And it is getting more

:00:55.:00:58.

pressured as the competition goes on because, as you work your way

:00:59.:01:03.

through those 18 routines, knowing everything you do reflects that

:01:04.:01:08.

final score, this is where the competition can very much be won or

:01:09.:01:16.

lost. Great Britain will be up on high bar very shortly. We will have

:01:17.:01:21.

Max Whitlock, Kristian Thomas, and Nile Wilson. China will be on vault.

:01:22.:01:33.

China are six going into this rotation. Great Britain are in

:01:34.:01:39.

third. And we have the current European and Commonwealth champion

:01:40.:01:44.

in Nile Wilson, who will be the third up. They get a three minute

:01:45.:01:46.

warm up now. Well, high bar, you normally finish

:01:47.:01:59.

on high bar. It is a real crowd pleaser. But halfway through the

:02:00.:02:04.

competition! It is a hairy one to have as a half-time break. Yes, it

:02:05.:02:13.

can be very nerve wracking. If your team hits, the crowd go wild. You

:02:14.:02:19.

can get big scores but you're releasing the bar, going over, it

:02:20.:02:24.

can be very risky. Slightly off, you can mess. And that will be a big

:02:25.:02:28.

deduction for the team. Will Great Britain be going all out the

:02:29.:02:32.

difficulty or will they start to say, hang on a minute, let's pull it

:02:33.:02:39.

back a couple of tenths. I think they will go for it, they can't hold

:02:40.:02:43.

back. China have got their stronger half of the competition coming up.

:02:44.:02:49.

Japan have pulled it back. The USA team have done three amazing vaults.

:02:50.:02:56.

As it stands, what are you thinking? I think we are doing well! I don't

:02:57.:03:02.

want to jinx anything but if we can carry on the way were going, fair

:03:03.:03:08.

enough. Chris, what do you think? I think I'd say the same as standard.

:03:09.:03:17.

For a rocky, that was very wise! No, I think this is the Olympic Games,

:03:18.:03:22.

it's the final, all the gymnasts out there are very well trained,

:03:23.:03:26.

fabulously strong, confident gymnasts. Even if they make a slight

:03:27.:03:37.

mistake, they will not roll over. It's a tough competition. Because

:03:38.:03:41.

the way the scoring goes, it depends how you start how it opens out. I

:03:42.:03:46.

don't expect to see China at the bottom eventually. No, none of us

:03:47.:03:52.

would have have expected them to be sick halfway round, either, but

:03:53.:03:54.

Great Britain will know what's going on around the arena. These big

:03:55.:04:00.

scoreboards hang around the roof, so everyone will see. If you choose to

:04:01.:04:06.

ignore it, fair enough, but the opportunity is there. We are going

:04:07.:04:13.

to vault. And they've proved wonderful twisters. But that was a

:04:14.:04:18.

big step on landing. The triple twist, we've seen triple of these

:04:19.:04:24.

dismounts, but that was... Qualification, they landed them so

:04:25.:04:30.

easily but that wasn't great. No, it wasn't. They are trying to play

:04:31.:04:33.

catch up, to do everything perfectly. And they aren't getting

:04:34.:04:42.

it. And under rotating. We often see China come out, because they are

:04:43.:04:46.

quiet on the world stage, nobody really knows what they are going to

:04:47.:04:51.

come with. Then we saw them in qualification, we saw them be a

:04:52.:04:55.

little bit rusty. Normally, they polish themselves up somewhat. It

:04:56.:05:03.

doesn't seem to have happened. Well, parallel bars now. This is the

:05:04.:05:14.

Russian. The leaders. Nice. Big tucked back with half turn from the

:05:15.:05:16.

upper arms position. That is a special requirement, that

:05:17.:05:37.

bar work. Big dismount, double front with Desmond. Russia are on song.

:05:38.:05:42.

The 19-year-old is the first of the three Russians to swing the parallel

:05:43.:05:52.

bars. That is lower than what the Chinese were expecting. It just

:05:53.:06:01.

isn't their day. That was a little slack that routine right at the

:06:02.:06:06.

beginning. Stretovich, went better as he went on. He wasn't as tight,

:06:07.:06:15.

maybe I am being overcritical. I agree. First man up. Russia doing

:06:16.:06:20.

well as a team, he'd be quite nervous, he still quite young. He

:06:21.:06:26.

settled the further he got into it. They are two marks ahead of Japan.

:06:27.:06:32.

So, they've got some leeway. They can take off the gas a little bit.

:06:33.:06:37.

And maybe enjoy their gymnastics, they haven't had that opportunity

:06:38.:06:41.

for years. They've always been fighting and pushing, desperately

:06:42.:06:44.

hanging on. Here they are, ahead of the rest of the world, and they're

:06:45.:06:52.

thriving on it. Yes, in qualification, they did well but

:06:53.:06:55.

they struggled to get the scores they'd have hoped for. But that'll

:06:56.:07:02.

do. Great start for the Russian team on parallel bars. The all-round

:07:03.:07:08.

Russian champion, Kuksenkov, will be up, and Belyavskiy will wrap things

:07:09.:07:14.

up. He seems on song as well. I think that could well be his year,

:07:15.:07:19.

Belyavskiy. I think that as well. We've seen him growing and maturing.

:07:20.:07:31.

Well, can Zhang Chenglong lay his Demons to rest for China? Another

:07:32.:07:39.

big vault on the way. Lovely triple twist that time. Much, much better

:07:40.:07:45.

work. Good control, that'll go well, up into the fifteens. Very much

:07:46.:07:53.

needed for China. They are in sixth, and they've had a bit of a rusty

:07:54.:07:58.

time. His team-mates say, thanks ever so much, mate! You've really

:07:59.:08:03.

helped me out there! All three scores count so no matter what

:08:04.:08:07.

happens, that score is added to the team total. Here we go. There's the

:08:08.:08:17.

backflip, and the height he gets off the vault into the triple make the

:08:18.:08:25.

landing isn't as good as Shirai, but it was a lot higher, I thought. It

:08:26.:08:32.

was a little bit less tidy. I'm sure the judges will have a feuded -- few

:08:33.:08:42.

deductions. Another tall gymnast. Not used to seeing the Chinese

:08:43.:08:47.

gymnast so tall. They are usually small and compact people. We will

:08:48.:08:52.

see this very gymnast wrap up the competition for China on high bar.

:08:53.:08:56.

It'll be a big routine for him because they are chasing to get back

:08:57.:08:59.

into the medals. It'll be down to him. 15.4 four Zhang Chenglong,

:09:00.:09:09.

giving them a score of 45, when you add all of the three gymnasts

:09:10.:09:14.

together. And that is their job done now on vault. They will move on to

:09:15.:09:19.

the Peebles, which they are renowned for. The last of the three British

:09:20.:09:26.

gymnasts, Nile Wilson. We've already had 14 833 from Thomas. Come on,

:09:27.:09:39.

Nile Wilson. Current Commonwealth and European champion, we need you

:09:40.:09:43.

now. He needs to focus, to be steady. He has a couple of big

:09:44.:09:51.

releases. He is the first one. Here comes the next. Into the tuck

:09:52.:09:59.

position. Hangs on. Steadies the swing down a little bit. 1.5 term.

:10:00.:10:07.

Swinging in the referrer script, you have to swing in more than one type

:10:08.:10:22.

of grip. Now with the half-time, up into the Kachev. Does it better than

:10:23.:10:31.

anyone. Full pirouette. Come on, into the dismount. Take it up!

:10:32.:10:37.

Control the landing! Well done, Nile Wilson! Yes! Well, that is four

:10:38.:10:47.

down, two to go. Watch out! Great Britain are on their way! That will

:10:48.:10:53.

be a big school, I think. A really big score. That is huge! Let's

:10:54.:11:01.

settle down. The leaders, Russia, and this lad knows how to swing the

:11:02.:11:10.

parallel bars, David Belyavskiy. He has held it the right amount of

:11:11.:11:20.

time. Moving to the end of the bars. Swinging from one end to the other.

:11:21.:11:30.

Swinging to handstand, that is his upper arm requirement.

:11:31.:11:41.

-- his routine nearly over. The Russian scorers building and

:11:42.:12:02.

building. The gap is increasing. That was really nice. It is a huge

:12:03.:12:10.

start and it will be a huge finish. You're right, this is going to be

:12:11.:12:15.

Belyavskiy's year. He was great at the Europeans, he's coming good at

:12:16.:12:21.

the moment for the Olympics. For one, I'm delighted to see that. He

:12:22.:12:26.

is a classy gymnast whom we've seen work hard, pick himself up when it's

:12:27.:12:33.

gone wrong. Well, I mean, what a difference it would do for the

:12:34.:12:36.

energy of the Russian team to get a medal here. Great Britain get a

:12:37.:12:46.

great score. The floor and pommel horse to come, what is in store for

:12:47.:12:51.

Great Britain in the next half an hour? Oh! Don't go anywhere! Keep

:12:52.:12:59.

cool, lads, keep cool, unlike us in the commentary box! We have a chance

:13:00.:13:08.

to see Kristian Thomas's high bar routine. This happened early on. We

:13:09.:13:15.

saw Nile Wilson smash it there on vault. We've relied so much on

:13:16.:13:20.

Kristian Thomas on vault and this is another piece of apparatus where he

:13:21.:13:24.

comes into his own and he manages to stay so level-headed. That is a

:13:25.:13:33.

trait of his. Definitely. That's why he's the team captain. Everyone

:13:34.:13:39.

looks to him. That is a big release and catch move there. Slightly off

:13:40.:13:52.

on the twisting giant. That was much better. You need to try to catch

:13:53.:13:56.

those turn and moves as close to handstand as possible so the judges

:13:57.:14:01.

can't duct. That was a turn and move connected into release and catch.

:14:02.:14:11.

He winds it up into the dismount. Big fall twisting double straight.

:14:12.:14:21.

You've got to love that! You have got to love that. Such a powerful

:14:22.:14:30.

routine. He's a tall gymnast, so powerful. He swings the bars in a

:14:31.:14:35.

different way. I've seen this move improve from him time and time

:14:36.:14:42.

again. He is able to kick it out and swing out a bit. Always good in the

:14:43.:14:52.

dismount. Mr reliable gets a good score. This is how Max Whitlock got

:14:53.:15:02.

on on high bar. He fell in qualification. He did, he will be

:15:03.:15:08.

wanting to put it behind him. That was eight good full pirouette, and

:15:09.:15:13.

that was the element he came to grief on.

:15:14.:15:22.

Always renowned for being good at the pirouette worked, at the turns.

:15:23.:15:35.

We have had two releases already. Another one and a half. Nicely

:15:36.:15:46.

controlled. Each of the turns worth extra marks. Here comes the

:15:47.:15:51.

dismount. He is quick and speedy on the double twist and the double

:15:52.:15:55.

straight. Three excellent bar routines from the British lads.

:15:56.:16:01.

Working on all six pieces of apparatus, doing everything he can

:16:02.:16:04.

to get Great Britain that Olympic medal. They really are asking the

:16:05.:16:12.

questions of the other competitors and that is all you can ask for from

:16:13.:16:14.

the boys. Big dismount, his legs are locked

:16:15.:16:25.

together. Opens his arms when he sees the ground. Yes. You can see it

:16:26.:16:37.

in his eyes. Let's have a look and see how things look. After four

:16:38.:16:41.

pieces of apparatus, Russian Federation lead Japan by a long

:16:42.:16:42.

chalk. Look at the British spectators, they

:16:43.:16:57.

are all in there. I was on the aeroplane with Brin D'Avoine's mum

:16:58.:17:02.

and she was just beside herself that her son was here. And Max's brother

:17:03.:17:10.

and dad are here. Everyone just now getting further and further on the

:17:11.:17:15.

edges of their seats as the last two pieces of apparatus approach and it

:17:16.:17:21.

is the floor for Great Britain and not long to wait because Max

:17:22.:17:25.

Whitlock will be first... I think you've just chalking up for the

:17:26.:17:33.

moment. This format, you go second in one rotation, then first. We are

:17:34.:17:44.

looking at Ivan Stretovich for Russia. Important routine for them.

:17:45.:17:51.

Young gymnast, been trusted here. It has been one of the three people

:17:52.:17:56.

whose scores counter. Her Mackems the big release. Full twisting back

:17:57.:18:04.

somersault over the bar. -- her Mackems the big release.

:18:05.:18:15.

Without the turn. Lovely swing. No interruption.

:18:16.:18:22.

He has navigated the difficult work. The double straight, just with a

:18:23.:18:37.

single quest, not so difficult but he is thrilled with that

:18:38.:18:41.

performance. Unbelievable composure for 19 years old, to go up there. We

:18:42.:18:46.

talked about the pressure building with these routines and when you are

:18:47.:18:50.

ahead of the likes of Japan and Great Britain, you've got to stay

:18:51.:18:53.

there. You can give them an inch otherwise they will be straight back

:18:54.:18:57.

at you. So for him there, just remarkable. Yes and he obviously

:18:58.:19:04.

only came in at the last minute. He was the reserve. A great decision to

:19:05.:19:09.

put him in, he has performed so well and under that kind of pressure, to

:19:10.:19:13.

try to stay ahead, it has been a great performance. And not be

:19:14.:19:19.

frightened to do your releases and captures. It is so good to see that.

:19:20.:19:24.

They will not play safe, they will want to stay out as far as they can.

:19:25.:19:33.

They have got the floor and then they will finish up on the pommel

:19:34.:19:39.

horse. Things may just slow down a little bit. Sometimes you cannot

:19:40.:19:47.

stay in the floor area. However, on the day, he does, he will score

:19:48.:19:50.

fantastically because it is a routine and a half.

:19:51.:19:59.

Things are going Russia's way. Russia leading the men's team final.

:20:00.:20:08.

Brazil are in fourth, ahead of China. The USA in six. Germany in

:20:09.:20:11.

seventh and Ukraine in eighth. Just waiting for Ivan Stretovich's

:20:12.:20:31.

score. Making way for the second gymnast.

:20:32.:20:39.

This is just the second piece of apparatus Oleg Verniaiev has been

:20:40.:20:52.

on. He can offer a lot on the pommel horse. It is a big score. The team

:20:53.:20:58.

will be hoping for a big score today. Great composed start. With

:20:59.:21:09.

the scissors to handstand. Picks up into the double lipped circle. Up

:21:10.:21:14.

into handstand. He controlled that brilliantly. Into the middle for the

:21:15.:21:26.

trip triple Russian turn. Into the one handle for this sequence. And

:21:27.:21:33.

again,. Across the horse. Travelling forwards and backwards.

:21:34.:21:50.

Up into the dismount. Now, that will be a big score. He is in the pommel

:21:51.:21:59.

horse final. He went up and saluted, held the bar and jumped off again so

:22:00.:22:03.

it is a bit of an odd performance they are doing here. They are just

:22:04.:22:08.

going around. Very impressive for Oleg Verniaiev on the pommel horse.

:22:09.:22:14.

Kristian Thomas now on the floor. Kristian Thomas is the second

:22:15.:22:18.

gymnast up. Former European floor champion. Come on, Chris. -- Kris!.

:22:19.:22:33.

Super double twist in front into the full twist front. Two and a half

:22:34.:22:42.

twists, controlling those landings well.

:22:43.:22:49.

Quite unoriginal element, rolling out the handspring. Very stylish

:22:50.:22:55.

gymnast, Kristian Thomas. Arms really wide. Lovely. Balance

:22:56.:23:03.

and control in the handstand. He needs power and control. A big

:23:04.:23:24.

double Arabian to finish. That is the way to do it, Kristian Thomas.

:23:25.:23:30.

Just a little hop on the first one, otherwise everything landed

:23:31.:23:31.

perfectly. Max Whitlock still to go. Goodness

:23:32.:23:43.

me. If this is going to be very close, come the finish of this

:23:44.:23:49.

competition, I cannot tell you. It is and I am glad we are finishing on

:23:50.:23:53.

one of our stronger pieces. That could really give us a big score on

:23:54.:23:58.

the pommel horse. He is just out there. It is not too harsh on the

:23:59.:24:08.

deductions, it will only be a 0.1. He has unsurprisingly made the floor

:24:09.:24:12.

final and it is a wonderful story because it means his fiancee and dad

:24:13.:24:16.

gets to come out and see him perform. They could not get here

:24:17.:24:19.

before the individual apparatus finals. They are watching from home.

Kristian Thomas' family get the chance to see him perform here in

:24:29.:24:35.

Rio. That was certainly another good, steady performance. The

:24:36.:24:44.

pressure is rising now. No doubt, China will be on their way back as

:24:45.:24:50.

well. They are an parallel bars at the moment, just chalking up. Talk

:24:51.:24:55.

about the pedigree on there, a current and former world champion as

:24:56.:24:57.

well as eight former bronze-medallist.

:24:58.:25:03.

China at the moment in fifth. Great Britain in third. Tentatively in

:25:04.:25:08.

third. We will bring you the other British

:25:09.:25:21.

performances as soon as we can but for now, we will stick with Deng

:25:22.:25:31.

Shudi of China. He has been putting some massive scores in so far.

:25:32.:25:43.

Double tap to start off with. -- double tuck. Struggled slightly.

:25:44.:25:51.

Really nice double pike. He is really quite stylish on this piece

:25:52.:26:01.

of apparatus. Nice under bar work combination. Another double

:26:02.:26:06.

somersault between the bars. Composing himself just before his

:26:07.:26:35.

dismount. A big double pike. That is a good routine. That follows a

:26:36.:26:46.

massive score of 15.9 and 16.1 66, so China are on their way. They are

:26:47.:26:51.

indeed and they have a couple of pieces they are so outstanding on.

:26:52.:26:56.

Parallel bars is one. It always surprises me it doesn't even out a

:26:57.:27:00.

little more across the apparatus. But they are so much more excellent

:27:01.:27:08.

an parallel bars. I guess it is the same with Great Britain. We are good

:27:09.:27:12.

on the pommel that it doesn't mean we will be great on the bars. Lovely

:27:13.:27:16.

lines. It is all about the good handstand

:27:17.:27:26.

shape on the parallel bars. This super dismount. You can see, he

:27:27.:27:44.

finishes with the ability to have his chest right up. He actually

:27:45.:27:47.

stopped and brought it back down a little bit. You can see, a little

:27:48.:27:52.

bit of medical assistance to his arms. Just put this into

:27:53.:27:58.

perspective, China would just about 0.7 behind Great Britain. 15.8, is

:27:59.:28:07.

enormous. China sitting in fifth going into this rotation, which

:28:08.:28:11.

Britain into third, Japan's second and Russia still leading this

:28:12.:28:14.

competition as they have done all the way around.

:28:15.:28:21.

CLARE BALDING: On BBC One, we will be making way for the ten o'clock

:28:22.:28:29.

news. Continuing coverage of the gymnastics, the men's team final,

:28:30.:28:34.

over on BBC Two. Later on, the conclusion of that event and we will

:28:35.:28:38.

hear from Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow who won in the men's ten

:28:39.:28:42.

metres synchro. All of that coming up on the BBC but leaving you here

:28:43.:28:46.

on BBC One to pick up coverage on BBC Two.
