Timing is everything. Every hand placed impeckably, every position

:00:54.:01:08.

held. The epitome of control. Every burst, every explosion of energy

:01:09.:01:13.

choreographed to the beat. Without timing there is no control, no

:01:14.:01:18.

grace, no finesse. Timing is everything.

:01:19.:01:27.

Timing is indeed everything. Let's get ready to tumble and fly with

:01:28.:01:30.

gymnastics tonight. Hello and good evening, we are live here in Rio. It

:01:31.:01:35.

is the evening of day four of the Games of the 31st Olympiad. Great

:01:36.:01:40.

Britain have four medals so far. None yet today. That could change

:01:41.:01:43.

this evening. For the next two hours we're focussing on the women's team

:01:44.:01:47.

competition in the Olympic arena. Gymnastics is one of the great

:01:48.:01:52.

Olympic sports. It has so many big stars. You think of Olga Corbett and

:01:53.:02:01.

the men yesterday just missing out, finishing fourth. For the women, if

:02:02.:02:06.

they were to win a medal, it would be the first for female gymnastics

:02:07.:02:12.

as a team since 1928. It could be an historic night. The USA very much

:02:13.:02:16.

lead the way thanks to Simone Biles. But they are hot favourites for

:02:17.:02:19.

gold. The other medals are very much up for grabs. It's going to be very,

:02:20.:02:23.

very exciting. Here's what we've got coming up:

:02:24.:02:44.

That diving is live on BBC Four right now if you want to watching

:02:45.:02:54.

it. Tonia Couch and Lois Toulson are in with a chance. You can access up

:02:55.:02:59.

to 24 live streams online and on the BBC Sport app. Lots of ways to keep

:03:00.:03:04.

across the BBC, the 5 Live coverage is fantastic as well. Every medal is

:03:05.:03:08.

covered. Don't forget the catch up programme from tomorrow morning as

:03:09.:03:11.

we try to bring you all the events that will have happened through the

:03:12.:03:15.

night. That's on BBC Two and it shows you all the the medals and

:03:16.:03:19.

everything you might have missed. The women's team competition is

:03:20.:03:22.

about to start. Before we do, let's meet the British team.

:03:23.:03:36.

# I'm going to swing from the chandelier

:03:37.:03:49.

# From the chandelier # I'm going to live like tomorrow

:03:50.:03:53.

doesn't exist # Like it doesn't exist... #

:03:54.:04:03.

I started when I was four. I'd probably say I fell in love with it

:04:04.:04:08.

at about 10 or 12. I didn't love it at first. I had my moments when I

:04:09.:04:12.

was like, six, seven, eight, I was just like no, I don't think I want

:04:13.:04:15.

to do it. You just kind of continue to do. It then you just grow to love

:04:16.:04:20.

it. Now I couldn't imagine my life without it. It's so exciting and for

:04:21.:04:24.

me personally, it's been a long road to get here. Four years ago, I

:04:25.:04:30.

wasn't sure if I even wanted to carry on with gymnastics. After a

:04:31.:04:35.

break I decided I wanted to go again and this time to enjoy it a lot

:04:36.:04:40.

more. This has been my favourite cycle It's incredible. I've dreamt

:04:41.:04:43.

about this moment since I was little. I was six when I started

:04:44.:04:51.

gym. I never knew how hard it would be. But I'm really, really excited.

:04:52.:05:00.

We need to keep doing what we're doing, work hard and gym's ups and

:05:01.:05:04.

downs, hopefully it will go well together in the end. It will be a

:05:05.:05:07.

hard fight for a medal. But that's what we're hoping for. We're working

:05:08.:05:12.

super hard in the gym doing everything we can to get the extra

:05:13.:05:16.

tenths and fitness to make everything look that bit easier,

:05:17.:05:20.

cleaner. As the years have gone on the team's got stronger and

:05:21.:05:23.

stronger. That's one of the most exciting parts. It's not just the

:05:24.:05:26.

individual honours, that's nice as well, but to know that the team's

:05:27.:05:30.

got an opportunity and the worlds last year we had an opportunity and

:05:31.:05:34.

it came our way. Everybody's really striving for that team medal and to

:05:35.:05:36.

be part this afternoon is really special.

:05:37.:05:42.

-- to be part of that is really special.

:05:43.:05:47.

This is their moment, the British team of Becky and Ellie Downie,

:05:48.:05:54.

Claudia Fragapane, Ruby Harrold and Amy Tinkler. They are determined to

:05:55.:06:01.

enjoy the whole experience. Ellie had a nasty fall in qualification.

:06:02.:06:09.

Her sister Becky there. They're young, keen, enthusiastic and all

:06:10.:06:12.

inspired by Beth Tweddle and the wonders that she has produced

:06:13.:06:15.

already in Olympics and World Championships gone by. Claudia

:06:16.:06:19.

Fragapane there has been involved since she was just 14 years old. The

:06:20.:06:24.

American team, Simone Biles going for five gold medals. No gymnast has

:06:25.:06:31.

ever won five at one Olympics. Gaby Douglas as well. They are

:06:32.:06:36.

superstars. Along with Michael Phelps, Simone Biles is probably the

:06:37.:06:40.

most famous name competing here. If the British team can produce clean

:06:41.:06:43.

routines they could be on for a medal. Let's join Christine Still,

:06:44.:06:50.

bronze medallist Beth Tweddle and former British junior gymnastics

:06:51.:06:54.

champion Matt Baker. Thanks Claire. Lauren Hernandez with

:06:55.:07:00.

the first vault for Team USA. What a start for them. We are expecting

:07:01.:07:04.

them to be well ahead of the rest of the world. That is a perfect example

:07:05.:07:09.

of why. A good start. A good start, not perfect, though, Matt. If you

:07:10.:07:21.

look here. It's a good, high flighted double twisting vault. But

:07:22.:07:24.

she's right on the edge of the line for landing. If she landed with her

:07:25.:07:28.

feet outside the second line, she'll get a deduction. Oh, she just creeps

:07:29.:07:36.

in and steps over. Should just be OK.

:07:37.:07:43.

There Nice and tight this vault is marked out of 5. 8. So the maximum

:07:44.:07:53.

she can score for this is 15. 8. Wasn't much else wrong with it. It

:07:54.:07:58.

was good and tight. They'll be hoping to start with a 15. Just to

:07:59.:08:03.

give you an idea of how this team final works. Each country has a team

:08:04.:08:08.

of five gymnasts. They select three to go on each piece of apparatus.

:08:09.:08:13.

Every single score counts that. Is why this is such a tough and brutal

:08:14.:08:18.

format. We saw yesterday that, you know, every fall and every big

:08:19.:08:22.

dismount goes towards that team total in the finish. A score of 15.

:08:23.:08:28.

1 for Lauren Hernandez. This was quite high considering. Beth? Yeah,

:08:29.:08:32.

I mean, obviously, it was slightly off direction. There was a slight

:08:33.:08:36.

leg separation at the end. Maybe the judges couldn't quite see that.

:08:37.:08:40.

We're going to see the next vaulter from the USA. This is Alexandra

:08:41.:08:53.

Raisman. Just a slight bring the legs together at the end. But a

:08:54.:08:57.

fantastic second vault. They will be pleased with that score. This is

:08:58.:09:01.

where you will see the Americans leaping ahead. They were ten marks

:09:02.:09:05.

clear, Chris, in qualification. They are. The only team really that has

:09:06.:09:12.

two vaults of this difficulty and quality. It's where they are way

:09:13.:09:18.

above the rest of the world. You can see two-and-a-half twists, tiny bit

:09:19.:09:22.

off direction. If they think this is perfect, the judges, they'll take

:09:23.:09:27.

nothing off for execution. She could score 16. This is the thing, because

:09:28.:09:32.

this landing, I mean, it's almost blind. She can spot it a bit there.

:09:33.:09:36.

A tough one to actually nail. It is very difficult. The blind landings

:09:37.:09:42.

are not what you want. Just to give you an idea of how these scores

:09:43.:09:46.

work. These days gymnasts can get extra marks for doing harder vaults

:09:47.:09:51.

or harder routines. Keep your eye on that difficulty score. Basically, in

:09:52.:09:55.

effect, it's the execution added to the difficulty. Talking of

:09:56.:10:02.

execution, this is the point where you could see the first perfect ten

:10:03.:10:06.

in this new scoring system. It's going to be done by this girl, we

:10:07.:10:10.

believe, potentially at these Olympics. Maybe not here, but maybe

:10:11.:10:12.

in the team final. A big, huge run into the round-off

:10:13.:10:22.

flick entry, two-and-a-half, slip hop at the end. But you can't take

:10:23.:10:26.

away. There is literally nothing else to deduct on that vault except

:10:27.:10:31.

that tiny hop at the end. She scored a 16 in qualification for that. We

:10:32.:10:35.

will not get a chance to see that in slow motion. Instead we go to Daria

:10:36.:10:43.

Spiridonova from Russia. Who is one of the gymnasts that share the gold

:10:44.:10:48.

at the World Championships. There was a four-way split. This is a

:10:49.:10:51.

strong piece of apparatus for her to start with. A clean start, straight

:10:52.:10:55.

back down to the low bar, legs are locked together throughout the

:10:56.:10:58.

routine. Straight back up to the top bar with the half turn. Short on the

:10:59.:11:04.

hand stand. The half turn, into the front somersault. Nice, clean catch.

:11:05.:11:14.

Full turn. Into the dismount. A very, very short routine, but

:11:15.:11:17.

because she's linking every element, that's where she builds up her

:11:18.:11:22.

difficulty. That follows the first Russian gymnast, Melnikova, who

:11:23.:11:32.

scored 15. 133. This apparatus, the bars, are where Russia really reign.

:11:33.:11:37.

They qualified top on bars. You see the beautiful, straight line,

:11:38.:11:40.

fingers to toes, perfectly pointed toes. Because she makes each move so

:11:41.:11:48.

well, she can link it straight into the next element. Super high front

:11:49.:11:55.

somersault. Just a tiny bit of a deduction for bent arms on the

:11:56.:12:00.

catch. A tiny deduction for bent legs past the low bar. A bit of a

:12:01.:12:13.

step. But very clean. She doesn't look too pleased with that routine.

:12:14.:12:17.

It wasn't necessarily as good as the qualification one. We will see what

:12:18.:12:22.

the difficulty value was and how they're coming out with it. Now,

:12:23.:12:30.

first time she hasn't scored 16 for a long time. Feeling the pressure,

:12:31.:12:38.

perhaps a bit, guys? Well, they're desperate to try and, well, Simone

:12:39.:12:42.

wants that fifth Gold Medal. She's got the potential. She's in the

:12:43.:12:48.

finals. America on 46. 866. It's a huge, huge score. Spiridonova just

:12:49.:12:55.

waiting for her score. She will be followed by the current Olympic

:12:56.:12:59.

champion, Mustafina. Who has been up and down with injury over the last

:13:00.:13:05.

Olympic cycle. But she's back. She's being pushed by the younger gymnasts

:13:06.:13:09.

coming through. The youngsters have been adding a lot of fizz to the

:13:10.:13:13.

Russian team. Yeah, we've seen the Russian team didn't look too strong

:13:14.:13:16.

at the Europeans. When we watched them in training here, they've

:13:17.:13:20.

really upped their game. Mustafina has had a tough couple of years.

:13:21.:13:24.

Maybe a bit of injury. But she's back in that qualification routine

:13:25.:13:28.

we saw, back to what she was like when she won the Olympic tight until

:13:29.:13:31.

2012. One of the reasons is potentially the gymnast on the right

:13:32.:13:36.

side there, Tutkhalian, who is a sprightly little thing to say the

:13:37.:13:43.

least. That's a good half a mark down on her qualification score. She

:13:44.:13:47.

knew it wasn't her best. Russia going round with Great Britain. It's

:13:48.:13:51.

a half time, if you like, within each of the rotations here. Great

:13:52.:13:54.

Britain will get a three-minute warm up after the next Russian gymnast,

:13:55.:13:58.

who is the current Olympic champion, Mustafina.

:13:59.:14:01.

Just waiting for everything to be sorted. Mustafina is saluting to the

:14:02.:14:05.

judges. We are not in control of the pictures. That's why we're just

:14:06.:14:09.

watching the gymnasts and not looking at Mustafina's routine.

:14:10.:14:16.

We're going to go across to floor. This is China. Japan I should say.

:14:17.:14:26.

Miyakawa. So far they are on 28.566 for their

:14:27.:14:42.

gymnasts. 16 years old. She was just outside the medals at the World

:14:43.:14:47.

Championships on floor. This gymnasts, one of the team from Japan

:14:48.:14:52.

that are promising much these days. And she is a very special humbler.

:14:53.:15:04.

-- special tumbler. Gymnasts work to music, have two includes dance and

:15:05.:15:10.

tumbles. Look at that, a double street somersault with full twist,

:15:11.:15:14.

but just unable to control the landing. Stepped out of the floor.

:15:15.:15:20.

One deduction for each foot out. This is a really impressive tumble.

:15:21.:15:25.

A straight front somersault. That was a super landing. Gymnasts have

:15:26.:15:41.

two express the floor routines. They have to include difficult leaps and

:15:42.:15:45.

spins. Just a lack of control from that falls in. -- that full spin.

:15:46.:15:58.

Another difficult tumble, this time in the tucked position. Twisting

:15:59.:16:07.

back. That was good. Gymnasts are allowed up to four tumbles. They can

:16:08.:16:12.

choose how many they have. A super double straight, but undercooked it

:16:13.:16:20.

a little bit. A very ambitious floor routine full of excitement, but I

:16:21.:16:24.

have to say a few deductions as well. Well, the Japanese qualified

:16:25.:16:36.

in seventh place. From our position, we think Mustafina had a storming

:16:37.:16:40.

routine. We will try to bring you that if we can. We can see that

:16:41.:16:44.

first tumble as she stepped out, just a .1. Bring out. But this one,

:16:45.:16:53.

lovely. She bounded out of the floor. Just a 0.1 for stepping out.

:16:54.:17:03.

Huge difficulty here. This is the fourth tumble. You can see her chest

:17:04.:17:11.

was well down. A big step forward. A 0.5 deduction, maybe slightly more.

:17:12.:17:19.

I can tell you that Ali Mustafina's score is in and it's a 15.933 which

:17:20.:17:25.

is exactly the same as what Simone Biles scored on vault. That is some

:17:26.:17:31.

feat really, because we think of bile is almost superhuman on vault.

:17:32.:17:37.

So for Mustafina to be able to match, that is pretty impressive.

:17:38.:17:41.

And there is the total for Russia on bars.

:17:42.:17:48.

Japan, one of the teams that could be in the mix in the top five. But

:17:49.:17:59.

of course all three scores have two can't. If there's one routine like

:18:00.:18:02.

that with a few deductions it's going to harm the team total. It is

:18:03.:18:13.

such a brutal format, this. For Great Britain, it's not a bad order.

:18:14.:18:17.

To come out on bars and then moved to the beam. And then for as much as

:18:18.:18:22.

you can to enjoy vault and floor. Do you think it will suit this rotation

:18:23.:18:28.

format? The good thing is Britain started on bars in the

:18:29.:18:31.

qualification. All of their training leading up to the Olympic Games,

:18:32.:18:35.

they were starting on bars. They will not have to change that train

:18:36.:18:40.

of thought. They can also come in. They were able to get used to be

:18:41.:18:46.

light and the atmosphere, take it all in and then concentrate, get in

:18:47.:18:52.

the zone ready to get up on bars and focus on their job in hand.

:18:53.:18:55.

Obviously, get all of the nerves out of the way and then head over to

:18:56.:19:00.

beam where we had a couple of problems in qualification. Then

:19:01.:19:03.

hopefully go and enjoy floor and vault. And we understand that

:19:04.:19:09.

Claudia is going to go all out in difficulty on the beam. This is a

:19:10.:19:12.

tough task. They know that an opportunity. There's only one

:19:13.:19:18.

gymnast with a higher start go on being banned Claudia and that is

:19:19.:19:23.

Simone Biles. That's how difficult the beam routine is but she is

:19:24.:19:28.

attempting. Didn't quite manage to pull it off and qualification but

:19:29.:19:32.

she will be going for it this time round. Really the tactics of the

:19:33.:19:38.

team and the coaches has to be to go for broke. For the girls to win that

:19:39.:19:45.

medal we have to go for the difficult routine. We have not heard

:19:46.:19:49.

about Ruby's routine. We would expect her to go for the more

:19:50.:19:53.

difficult routine but she didn't use and qualification. But who knows? If

:19:54.:19:57.

that the team decision, we've obviously not seen what their

:19:58.:20:01.

training has been like. Even though Rebecca and Claudia have had

:20:02.:20:07.

mistakes and qualification, their team coaches will have seen them

:20:08.:20:10.

training and no that they can perform those routines. They have

:20:11.:20:15.

made that decision to put them back up for the team final. A real shame

:20:16.:20:20.

that Becky Downie did make the bars final. We couldn't see, but we were

:20:21.:20:26.

all quite surprised at how low the score was. As far as the release and

:20:27.:20:30.

captures are concerned, she stayed on, she got through the routine and

:20:31.:20:34.

you will see for yourself how hairy some of these routines are.

:20:35.:20:38.

Hopefully she will feel confident to build on that now. I think she knows

:20:39.:20:44.

that individual chance has gone. Her one shot at the Olympic medal is now

:20:45.:20:49.

18 one. She will have re-grounded herself and spoken to the coaches.

:20:50.:20:56.

-- is a team one. And early as well, her sister, she had a shaky

:20:57.:21:02.

qualification. I think we are just warming up. Yes, I think we are. She

:21:03.:21:12.

did, Ellie took a nasty tumble. She had already jarred her back a little

:21:13.:21:18.

bit in the training. The floor is very hard apparently, absolutely

:21:19.:21:22.

everyone has said. She was already a little bit tender. But you took

:21:23.:21:25.

medical advice, they said she was fine and she stormed back. She will

:21:26.:21:29.

be wanting to really show everybody what she can do. China going round

:21:30.:21:38.

with the USA. This is Mao Yi. She is working the floor and vault today.

:21:39.:21:42.

Just 16 years old, but still full of power. Entry with the double twist.

:21:43.:21:50.

Chest slightly down on the landing but a great start to the Chinese

:21:51.:21:55.

medal potential. It's fair to say that the USA have almost been given

:21:56.:22:01.

the gold medal from the media here. In the fight really is for silver

:22:02.:22:06.

and bronze. It is. A lot of the other teams have all got very

:22:07.:22:11.

similar work. Really, other than on vault, the Americans have got so

:22:12.:22:16.

much more. Simone Biles is a very special gymnast. Leading the team,

:22:17.:22:21.

she gives them more consistency making it different to the others.

:22:22.:22:25.

That was a nice vault. China worked in the first round in qualification.

:22:26.:22:30.

Looking back, the scores were quite harsh on that first round. I would

:22:31.:22:35.

expect to see China fighting back hard. Just bear in mind that score

:22:36.:22:41.

of 46.166 that Russia have posted in this fight for silver and bronze.

:22:42.:22:44.

Even on the first piece of apparatus, we are talking about it.

:22:45.:22:49.

It's China, Russia and Great Britain all within a shout. Just a reminder

:22:50.:22:57.

that all three scores count the matter whether you're on vault,

:22:58.:23:07.

floor, bars or beam. Tan Jiaxin for China. She is doing vault and bars

:23:08.:23:12.

today. A world silver medallist -- China world silver medallists as a

:23:13.:23:20.

team. Entry using the same vault with the double twist. Chest

:23:21.:23:23.

slightly higher on the landing but did have that hop back. China versus

:23:24.:23:35.

Russia as we speak. China are hugely improved on vault. They are slight

:23:36.:23:39.

gymnast in the making. They struggled on vault in the past but

:23:40.:23:45.

are looking much more confident and competent. Nicely extended body

:23:46.:23:50.

position. As Beth said, a big hop back. But good direction keeping

:23:51.:24:02.

inside those two lines. Ideally be gymnast wants to be plonked down the

:24:03.:24:06.

middle. But as long as they did go outside the sidelines there is no

:24:07.:24:14.

specific deduction. Wraps the arms in, steadied the landing. Just to

:24:15.:24:20.

bring you up to date with what's been going on elsewhere in the

:24:21.:24:28.

arena, 14.7664 China's second vault. Brazil have had a big deduction and

:24:29.:24:31.

they have also had a fall over on beam. A six difficulty posted for

:24:32.:24:39.

Wang Yan, the last of the Chinese vaulters. The second-highest

:24:40.:24:49.

qualifiers for this team final. Focusing in and ready. She's going

:24:50.:24:56.

to use a different entry with a double twist. A very small gymnast,

:24:57.:25:01.

but lots and lots of power. Just that step on the landing. Just

:25:02.:25:11.

managed to pull it around in time. Celine van Gernder for the

:25:12.:25:14.

Netherlands now. Really a chance to talk about all the different style

:25:15.:25:20.

of gymnasts. The Netherlands are going for a completely different

:25:21.:25:24.

style. In fact, having them and the Americans on the floor at the same

:25:25.:25:29.

time is fantastic because they show something quite different. Nice

:25:30.:25:34.

tumbling, one and a half into front. But it's the dance work that is

:25:35.:25:36.

really what they are renowned for. Good leaps. Every gymnast trust to

:25:37.:26:09.

include tumbles, leaps and spins. But it's that choice. -- every

:26:10.:26:16.

gymnast must include. They have to do at least read leaps or spins back

:26:17.:26:21.

count towards their aid elements. -- at least eight.

:26:22.:26:30.

This gymnast chose just two tumbles, so not so many opportunities for the

:26:31.:26:54.

judges to deduct for landing. More difficult to build a real high

:26:55.:27:02.

starting score. China's score is now for 4.3 32. -- 44 .332. That puts

:27:03.:27:13.

them in third position behind Russia and the USA, but still a lot of

:27:14.:27:17.

gymnastics to go. We are only halfway around the first rotation. A

:27:18.:27:19.

chance to see Great Britain on bars. Becky Downie, current European

:27:20.:27:36.

champion. Great Britain are on a score of 29.466 with two gymnasts. A

:27:37.:27:44.

big routine coming up. Come on, Becky! A clean start. The forward

:27:45.:27:53.

toe on enough to get that special requirement in. Straight up to the

:27:54.:27:57.

top bar. Into the big release and catch, that's where she had been

:27:58.:28:01.

trouble in the qualification by catching her heels. Full turn into

:28:02.:28:07.

the giant. Her own release and catch that's been named after her. And

:28:08.:28:13.

then this big huge release right at the end of the routine. Lots of

:28:14.:28:18.

energy needed for it. Just going, just needs the final wind up for the

:28:19.:28:25.

dismount. Nailed the landing. Fantastic routine, Becky. That was a

:28:26.:28:28.

great way for the British team to finish and I think we will catch up

:28:29.:28:32.

with some of the British team after her routine. Becky is through, we

:28:33.:28:39.

will catch up with Ruby Harrold's routine so far. But read-through, so

:28:40.:28:44.

far, so good. You could see the pressure on her face before she

:28:45.:28:50.

started. Here she really swings bars with great virtuosity. She generates

:28:51.:28:54.

speed. You can see the lift of her body right above the bar so that she

:28:55.:28:58.

can this hugely difficult height release. She clipped her feet in

:28:59.:29:04.

qualification but not there, she was clean.

:29:05.:29:08.

She was able to link that one straight into the somersault down to

:29:09.:29:19.

the low bar. It's these big mar lirchinged together that -- moves

:29:20.:29:22.

linked together that make this routine special. She can do a

:29:23.:29:27.

routine worth 6. 9. This might be a 6. 8. It will be a good routine.

:29:28.:29:34.

Unbelievable composure knowing that every single routine, every score

:29:35.:29:37.

counts towards that team total. They don't want to give anything away.

:29:38.:29:41.

They're going round with Russia. So they're going to get a really good

:29:42.:29:50.

idea of how things look. Thorsdottir competing at the moment on floor.

:29:51.:29:58.

China 44. 332 sees them in third at the moment. We're waiting for Becky

:29:59.:30:03.

Downie's score to come in. Everyone feeling a little more

:30:04.:30:09.

settled. As settled as you can knowing you're moving on to beam!

:30:10.:30:12.

Yeah, that was a key routine for Becky. Obviously, she'd had the

:30:13.:30:18.

problems in qualification so she needed to have a good start. Now

:30:19.:30:21.

she's had that, she's settled herself down. She's there with her

:30:22.:30:26.

sister. I'm not sure what they're discussing, but they can head over

:30:27.:30:30.

to beam knowing that they've got those first three routines cleanly

:30:31.:30:32.

through. It's everything that they hoped for

:30:33.:30:37.

at this stage. Maybe down on Russia just a little bit. They are, yes,

:30:38.:30:43.

44. 866. Great Britain in third at the moment. We'll take that score.

:30:44.:30:50.

This is Ruby Harrold's routine. Beth, talk us through this.

:30:51.:31:01.

Here the clean start, upstart hand stand. Straight back down with the

:31:02.:31:08.

full twisting move. Colin stepping in for safety with this unique

:31:09.:31:15.

combination. Down to the low bar, jam packed routine throughout. Then

:31:16.:31:19.

the half turn into the front somersault. Nice, clean catch. The

:31:20.:31:26.

hop into the reverse grip. The double front with just one step on

:31:27.:31:31.

landing. See the delight on the team's face.

:31:32.:31:36.

A very, very important routine for Russia. This happened moments ago to

:31:37.:31:41.

leap them ahead of Great Britain. This is what happened. Beth over to

:31:42.:31:47.

you again. A real competitor of yours in the

:31:48.:31:50.

past. She was. She won the Olympic title when I was third. I didn't

:31:51.:31:57.

want to say that! Thanks. Straight back into the low bar. Up to the

:31:58.:32:01.

high bar, four elements connected together. That's how she builds her

:32:02.:32:08.

difficulty right up. The half turn into the Yager somersault. No need

:32:09.:32:11.

for the coach to be there. She was cleanly on the bar. Half turn, back

:32:12.:32:18.

to the dismount she used in London 2012 and a very, very good landing.

:32:19.:32:27.

A chance then to see Ellie Downie. Gymnast that was second up for Great

:32:28.:32:33.

Britain following Ruby Harrold. Working every piece today. She is,

:32:34.:32:37.

very good all rounder. There's the forward grip element. We need to get

:32:38.:32:43.

this special requirement into the big move. That's where she faultered

:32:44.:32:49.

in the team final in the 2015 worlds. Straight down to the low

:32:50.:32:53.

bar. Managing to keep the routine going the whole way through. Just

:32:54.:32:59.

missed her feet coming in there for that. Finishing off this routine

:33:00.:33:08.

with a big wind of giant into the double straight and a small hop

:33:09.:33:11.

forward. She's the ultimate competitor and she has been super,

:33:12.:33:15.

Chris, as far as the British team are concerned. She has always been

:33:16.:33:20.

from very young, a really confident competitor. Don't want to say too

:33:21.:33:25.

much, because they move to beam next and probably for Ellie, beam's been

:33:26.:33:28.

the piece she's had to work the hardest on. But that was a lovely

:33:29.:33:37.

piked Jaeger. Bars is something, strangely enough her two best pieces

:33:38.:33:41.

are opposite to her sister. She's fought hard to make the bars as

:33:42.:33:45.

strong as that. Gymnasts moving to the second rotation. Here's how

:33:46.:33:48.

things look after the first: Having a look back here at Flavia

:33:49.:34:14.

Saraiva from Brazil. Lots of confidence. Lovely style as well.

:34:15.:34:19.

She's a classical gymnast. When she works, the toes are beautifully

:34:20.:34:23.

pointed. Of course, those are all the things that the judges look for.

:34:24.:34:27.

They want to see toes completely pointed, legs straight. The top

:34:28.:34:35.

three qualifying for beam. Nice and supple. Confident with the head

:34:36.:34:48.

release. Now she linked the two jumps without the feet moving, but

:34:49.:34:52.

whether the judges would think there was a pause is another matter.

:34:53.:35:01.

Confident in those two, though. Two free walkovers and a side

:35:02.:35:05.

somersault, tiny loss of balance. Straight up, here we go, double

:35:06.:35:11.

pike. There were a couple of steps, but a great, sparky performance.

:35:12.:35:15.

That's the definition of a crowd placer. This place just erupts.

:35:16.:35:20.

Wonderful to have Brazil in the team final. They're seventh at the

:35:21.:35:24.

moment. Japan are in sixth. Germany fifth.

:35:25.:35:36.

The United States goes for their third ever Olympic team Gold Medal,

:35:37.:35:42.

and their second consectively. Great Britain now on beam. They will start

:35:43.:35:46.

longside Russia. They'll have to wait there for a moment on beam.

:35:47.:35:49.

You've got the Netherlands and Japan on vault. China and the USA move to

:35:50.:35:54.

bars and Germany and Brazil are going to be on floor.

:35:55.:36:01.

Ellie Downie with the job of starting the beam competition for

:36:02.:36:05.

Great Britain. Just a reminder, all three scores

:36:06.:36:10.

will count for the team total. They're going to be packing in the

:36:11.:36:13.

difficulty. They'll do everything they can to get a team medal here at

:36:14.:36:20.

the Olympic Games final. Now, this piece of apparatus just

:36:21.:36:25.

takes hours of work. You have to do the routines over and over and over.

:36:26.:36:33.

Then keep calm on the day. Come on Becky, nice, big front somersault. A

:36:34.:36:43.

very difficult skill, though. She's completely blind going in, half turn

:36:44.:36:46.

- oh, and it was blind and it was off. You could see the hips were the

:36:47.:36:52.

wrong side. You have to go for the difficulty. There's no marks for

:36:53.:36:58.

playing safe in this game. But this score has to count. So she needs to

:36:59.:37:03.

recover herself and still give a good performance. Another difficult

:37:04.:37:10.

element coming up here. Double spin. She holds on well. She hasn't yet

:37:11.:37:18.

done an acrobatic series, which is one of the requirements. Here it

:37:19.:37:22.

comes. Back flip, layout somersault. Hold firm, Ellie. Into the free cart

:37:23.:37:37.

wheel. Bonus marks 0. 1 for joining the jump and free cart wheel. Now

:37:38.:37:42.

she's got a big dismount to consider. A roundoff, lifts high,

:37:43.:37:48.

two-and-a-half twists, great landing. Well that was a super

:37:49.:37:51.

routine. What a shame about that fall. What a comeback. The thing is

:37:52.:37:55.

you've got to put things like that behind you. There was the potential

:37:56.:37:59.

to give away even more with that routine, Beth, but she stuck those

:38:00.:38:03.

moves, carried on and every country has to do beam. We know and we can

:38:04.:38:08.

see here her hips were off to the side of the beam. With beam there is

:38:09.:38:12.

no room for error. She did well to get back up, control herself, calm

:38:13.:38:16.

her nerves and finish it off for the team. They know how important it is

:38:17.:38:20.

for every single tenth. The fall has happened. There's nothing you can do

:38:21.:38:25.

about that except get back up and finish the routine to the best of

:38:26.:38:28.

your ability, which she did for the team. China have also had a fall.

:38:29.:38:36.

It's just happened. Fall for fall as far as Great Britain are concerned

:38:37.:38:40.

with China. Over to vault and the Netherlands.

:38:41.:38:48.

Just slightly landing backwards. She had to take the step backwards.

:38:49.:38:59.

Vaults are given tariffs. And the straight somersault, the full twist

:39:00.:39:03.

is a five. If you do one-and-a-half twists it goes up to 5. 3. If you do

:39:04.:39:09.

two twists, it's 5. 8. That's how it's all building. There we go. It's

:39:10.:39:14.

quite a difficult vault. She had underrotated. She had to step back

:39:15.:39:20.

to save it. That's where the judges will deduct. Just doing the one

:39:21.:39:25.

piece of apparatus today. Vera Van Pol. Nice lift, good shape. In fact,

:39:26.:39:36.

she did very well just to step back. It would have been easy as anything

:39:37.:39:44.

to sit down at that point. Dutch gymnasts doing fantastically well

:39:45.:39:49.

here. Didn't qualify for last Olympics. So to be in team final is

:39:50.:39:54.

amazing. This is their first team final for 30 years. Quite something.

:39:55.:40:15.

They're on 28. 033. In the words of the great Mitch Fenner, next

:40:16.:40:25.

apparatus please. The Americans there. You get a team

:40:26.:40:30.

of five. Each country selects three gymnasts for each piece of

:40:31.:40:34.

apparatus. I know we keep saying it, every score counts, but... It does.

:40:35.:40:39.

It's interesting the format, to be honest with you. I think London was

:40:40.:40:42.

the first time where they did that three to count as far as the

:40:43.:40:45.

Olympics is concerned. It doesn't half make a difference. It makes a

:40:46.:40:49.

huge difference. As a gymnast, normally you know you've got to go

:40:50.:40:52.

clean. If you've got the safety blanket of knowing it's four up,

:40:53.:40:56.

three to count, it is slightly less pressure. But here, the stakes are

:40:57.:41:00.

huge enough as it is. You're going for an Olympic medal. To suddenly

:41:01.:41:04.

know if you make that mistake, it can mean the difference between an

:41:05.:41:11.

Olympic medal and not. Yilin Fan, I said about a four-way split for gold

:41:12.:41:17.

at the worlds. China need their world champion right now having

:41:18.:41:22.

encountered a fall already on this apparatus. The clean full turn,

:41:23.:41:30.

straight up to the high bar. She's building the difficulty by linking

:41:31.:41:36.

so many elements together. Just caught that. Into the full turn.

:41:37.:41:43.

Into another full turn. Into a half turn. And winding up for the

:41:44.:41:49.

dismount. Using the double straight and a small pace backwards. She

:41:50.:41:54.

certainly played the margins there. She did several catches right on her

:41:55.:42:00.

fingertips. Tiny gymnast. She had to work hard to get that routine right

:42:01.:42:06.

through. The Chinese are nouned for using all -- are renowned for using

:42:07.:42:11.

all the turning elements. Since London they've been changing their

:42:12.:42:16.

style and starting to use other moves. That was quite bent armed.

:42:17.:42:24.

That's a bit of a deduction. 0. 0. 3 perhaps for catching close. These

:42:25.:42:28.

are the turns. You have to try and finish in hand stand, which she did

:42:29.:42:35.

beautifully. The double straight dismount, lovely shape. Just

:42:36.:42:38.

controlled the landing, a little pace.

:42:39.:42:43.

A little bit of an edgy routine, I felt. If you've seen your team-mate

:42:44.:42:48.

fall, it's pretty much bound to be. There were moments where I thought

:42:49.:42:52.

she was going to fly off. She did well to keep the whole routine

:42:53.:42:56.

going. China were in fourth going into this rotation.

:42:57.:43:26.

Very nice double straight somersault.

:43:27.:43:38.

Double twisting front somersault, good variety there.

:43:39.:43:58.

Super twiple spin. -- triple spin. Quite a few marks given for musical

:43:59.:44:11.

interpretation. And plenty given for landing dead like that.

:44:12.:44:50.

Nicely done. Big tumbles, big variety and smooth, expressive

:44:51.:45:00.

dance. She didn't have a huge start value or difficulty value in

:45:01.:45:04.

qualification, just a 5.7 where you will get the big sixes and people

:45:05.:45:13.

doing the big tumbles. But that was a really enjoyable routine. A chance

:45:14.:45:23.

to see Claudia Fragapane. Come on, Claudia. Claudia's got a very

:45:24.:45:33.

difficult beam routine. She came to grief on one of the elements in the

:45:34.:45:39.

qualification. Watch here carefully. There is the Arabian, very nicely

:45:40.:45:46.

done. The half-tone into the front somersault. Two good leaps. She did

:45:47.:45:49.

well there because her foot was across the beam. Now the acrobatic

:45:50.:45:57.

series. Lots of concentration needed. Flip, straight somersault

:45:58.:46:02.

with full twist. A bit of a fight, but she stayed on. The free

:46:03.:46:08.

cartwheel. She is certainly showing grit and determination here. She is

:46:09.:46:15.

a very determined gymnast, Claudia. Nice spin. Good rhythm, good

:46:16.:46:22.

movement. Now another super difficult move, standing full twist.

:46:23.:46:29.

Very nicely done into the jump. She has absolutely packed this routine

:46:30.:46:36.

full. They turning jump as well. Everything in. Actually, she has

:46:37.:46:40.

settled nicely. A big dismount needed. It has to be clean. One

:46:41.:46:49.

Flip, two flips, up, double pike. Wow, super landing! But showed every

:46:50.:46:55.

part of British grit. Her feet were just on the edge, but there was no

:46:56.:47:00.

way she was coming off. Free cartwheel, standing full twist. This

:47:01.:47:05.

whole routine is jam-packed. You can see from overhead the flick into the

:47:06.:47:10.

full twist. And the big, huge dismount. Flick to want, click to

:47:11.:47:19.

two, double pike. It has been a conversation for a lot of people who

:47:20.:47:25.

know about gymnastics, 14.433. How tough do you go? As far as Claudia's

:47:26.:47:31.

beam routine is, she went all out. As did Becky Downie, this happens

:47:32.:47:36.

just moments ago. She can be absolutely beautiful, but she can

:47:37.:47:42.

also be inconsistent. Today her team need consistency. The first move was

:47:43.:47:51.

well controlled, a lovely front somersault, a lovely high one. This

:47:52.:47:55.

is the unusual acrobatic series. A free cartwheel into a layout

:47:56.:48:01.

somersault. Very nicely performed. A lovely rhythm. A change like leap,

:48:02.:48:08.

change like half. Those are the two difficult leaps. -- change leg leap,

:48:09.:48:14.

change leg half. Leaps like that gets in bonuses. Then, has to

:48:15.:48:21.

control but does so well. Now the free walkover into the jump. -- the

:48:22.:48:32.

split jump. Very nice, supple and elegant as a gymnast. Side.

:48:33.:48:35.

Somersault She fought well there. Now there is one big element to go

:48:36.:48:42.

as well as the dismount. Change leg to the ring position. That was well

:48:43.:48:51.

performed. She needs a good strong dismount to give her a good score.

:48:52.:48:57.

Oh, a bit of a bound forward but she kept her hands off the floor. That

:48:58.:49:02.

will do, that will do. Goodness me, another routine packed with

:49:03.:49:07.

difficulty. For Becky, this is huge. She didn't get selected for London

:49:08.:49:13.

2012. She did compete in Beijing. This is a real chance for her,

:49:14.:49:19.

probably her last chance, to get an Olympic medal. Definitely her last

:49:20.:49:22.

chance. She had that front somersault, that was a skill that

:49:23.:49:26.

have problems in qualification. It is the first element so you want to

:49:27.:49:31.

get that over with. The rest of the routine, there is the two jumps but

:49:32.:49:35.

you need. Christine was saying how elegant she is and she shows that

:49:36.:49:40.

off throughout her whole routine. The fight in this dismount shows how

:49:41.:49:45.

much this team means to her. She was not going to put her hands down. You

:49:46.:49:51.

can see her team-mates really appreciating the effort. You can see

:49:52.:49:54.

the physio to the right, she helps keep the gymnasts performing day in

:49:55.:49:59.

day out and with all of their recovery. We know there will be

:50:00.:50:03.

tough competition between Great Britain, China and Russia. Russia

:50:04.:50:07.

still to go. We know that China have already counted one fall. Great

:50:08.:50:13.

Britain won fall, China 141. Like you say, everybody has to come to

:50:14.:50:22.

beam. -- China one fall. Four years ago, we were the bottom team in team

:50:23.:50:26.

final on beam. We absolutely know we have got to put that behind us.

:50:27.:50:32.

There's your husband. What are you reading into his body language? I

:50:33.:50:37.

don't think she's really happy with that performance at the moment. He's

:50:38.:50:44.

Mr supercool. They look like they're just checking Becky's difficulty

:50:45.:50:47.

values. They've got them all written down so that if there is any

:50:48.:50:50.

discrepancy when her scores, they can check straightaway and put a

:50:51.:50:56.

protest in. The judges are taking their time. Becky looks a little bit

:50:57.:51:01.

anxious. She does. She knows maybe there's a couple of things that she

:51:02.:51:12.

wouldn't maybe have given 100%. 5.9 difficulty, 14.166. Do you think

:51:13.:51:18.

that slow? No, I think that's what I expected. I think that would be what

:51:19.:51:24.

I'm expecting. She did look a little bit unhappy with it. Two pieces

:51:25.:51:29.

down. We talked about the rotation order. It's going well for Great

:51:30.:51:35.

Britain, vault and floor for them to come. Japan in sixth position at the

:51:36.:51:43.

moment. You can see at the top of the screen there, the 5.8

:51:44.:51:51.

difficulty. A very powerful vault with her small step. I will tell you

:51:52.:51:55.

that Russia have just had a full already. -- a fall. The fight for

:51:56.:52:04.

silver and bronze, all of those countries have one fall each.

:52:05.:52:12.

Melnikova is up currently for the Russians, and she fell in

:52:13.:52:17.

qualification as well. A very nice gymnast, a little bit different. No

:52:18.:52:22.

perky ponytail. She has a different style of her own but she is a

:52:23.:52:29.

fabulous tumbler and a solid Volta. We have seen a 15 from the American

:52:30.:52:34.

team for that vault. That looked a good vault to me as well. We will

:52:35.:52:39.

have to see what it comes in as. This gymnast will be busy, working

:52:40.:52:43.

three of the four pieces of apparatus. Many gymnasts are already

:52:44.:52:53.

half round. Japan, 14.833 four Miyakawa. -- for Murakami. The

:52:54.:53:03.

difficulty of 6.2, in effect this whole vault is marked out of 16.2.

:53:04.:53:13.

Asuak Teramoto, also in the all-round final. Using the

:53:14.:53:19.

handspring entry. Just a slight stumble at the end, almost tripping

:53:20.:53:23.

over her own feet trying to present. I'm always impressed with this

:53:24.:53:28.

vault. She is such a tiny gymnast. The platform is quite big. She gets

:53:29.:53:33.

her hands into the front. She has to go up and along to clear it. You can

:53:34.:53:38.

see as she hops forward she is almost on top of the vault. But it's

:53:39.:53:46.

a highly credited vault. Marked out of 6.2, so 16.2. Really, other than

:53:47.:53:53.

the hops around landing and perhaps a little bit of deduction for lack

:53:54.:54:00.

of length it is very well formed. The men's team got back to God

:54:01.:54:07.

yesterday in the team final. Gabrielle Douglas for team USA will

:54:08.:54:13.

be next to go on bars. She follows Simone Biles. This is routine number

:54:14.:54:23.

two for the USA. Jumps to the high bar into the full turn. Big catch,

:54:24.:54:29.

straight into the pack on the low bar. Then steep with the half term.

:54:30.:54:41.

-- half term. Building the difficulty each time she is using

:54:42.:54:46.

these elements. Here is the wind-up to the dismount. The double

:54:47.:54:53.

straight. And the stock landing at every gymnast dreams of. She didn't

:54:54.:54:57.

get the chance to make the all-round final and retain the all-round title

:54:58.:55:02.

that she won in London 2012. But I can tell you that Simone Biles, the

:55:03.:55:08.

first gymnast up for the US, scored 14.8. Rebeca Andrade for Brazil. The

:55:09.:55:14.

roof is going to come off here. Samba time! It looks like she's not

:55:15.:55:22.

happy with the start of her music. Maybe they have played the wrong

:55:23.:55:26.

music? Maybe they didn't show the start. She wisely steps off the

:55:27.:55:35.

floor. That can be so nerve wracking as a gymnast. You've got yourself

:55:36.:55:38.

all hyped up and then the wrong music comes on. Then you are like,

:55:39.:55:44.

what do I do? Do I come off, get back on? I did see the floor judges

:55:45.:55:49.

almost say to her, step back, let the music people sort out the music.

:55:50.:55:56.

She can be present and come back on. OK, DJ, will ready. Good luck! I

:55:57.:56:00.

don't think she heard the start. Rebeca Andrade, the highest

:56:01.:56:17.

qualifier for Brazil. Full twisting double back. Doesn't need a long

:56:18.:56:30.

run. Superpowerful gymnast. Lovely twisting into the front somersault.

:56:31.:56:44.

This is what you call selling a routine. But she dropped the leg

:56:45.:56:53.

down early at one and a half spins. She won't get the double.

:56:54.:57:10.

Very cleverly using a style of her own. A super double tuck.

:57:11.:57:35.

Needs to finish with a difficult tumble. The double pike, and that is

:57:36.:57:42.

very much the problem with having given such a full on performance in

:57:43.:57:47.

the dance. You don't just leave yourself enough energy for that

:57:48.:57:53.

final tumble. Well, it was wonderful and vastly entertaining to watch.

:57:54.:57:58.

Great to dance to, we had a little boogie! Brazil in seventh going into

:57:59.:58:03.

this rotation. Simone Biles is the first up on bars. Gabby Douglas, her

:58:04.:58:19.

score is just in. This is Seda Tutkhalyan Anbar for Russia.

:58:20.:58:25.

Tutkhalyan was very much their best beam worker in qualification. Nice

:58:26.:58:31.

round off already. This is the big skill. The full twist, well

:58:32.:58:33.

negotiated. Steadily done. Shap, Leap with the head taken back.

:58:34.:58:57.

I'd be surprised if the judges fully credit that. It was a bit edgy.

:58:58.:59:11.

Big wait here ready for a big dismount. Double pike. Nice and

:59:12.:59:19.

firm. In qualification she did a full twisting double back there. She

:59:20.:59:24.

cut back a bit for safety. Russia on a score of 27. 991. We'll bring you

:59:25.:59:35.

Mustafina's beam routine shortly. You can see the round-off straight

:59:36.:59:41.

back. She does sometimes use the full twist. There's the change leg

:59:42.:59:46.

into the change leg half. Splits not quite and there you can see the

:59:47.:59:50.

round-off full twist. Covered that wobble well. Then using the double

:59:51.:59:59.

pike, having had that fall on the first routine, they've played safe

:00:00.:00:04.

and gone for the double pike. You can see her quickly getting

:00:05.:00:07.

strapped up. They're the last team up. Disappointing 12. 966. USA just

:00:08.:00:19.

getting ready for beam, going through the motions, getting warmed

:00:20.:00:26.

up. It's time to have another little samba.

:00:27.:00:32.

She's wonderful. She is and this routine has been specially composed

:00:33.:00:35.

for her just for this Olympic Games. Expect something special. Hopefully

:00:36.:00:43.

the DJ gets the music right because apparently a pop star has recorded

:00:44.:00:45.

this just for her. Enjoy. She might be very sparkly and

:00:46.:01:13.

twirling hands but also very classy. Lovely height on the tumble. Super

:01:14.:01:18.

extension through the legs an the feet.

:01:19.:01:31.

Well, the crowd love it. She kept enough energy for the finish. What a

:01:32.:02:19.

super little gymnast. Just a joy to watch for all of the world, but

:02:20.:02:25.

certainly for everybody here, 12,000 people packed into the Olympic Arena

:02:26.:02:29.

here just loving this team final. What a joy it is to have the home

:02:30.:02:32.

team in it. It was the same yesterday with the men. Goodness me

:02:33.:02:36.

they put on a great performance. Just wonderful. Full of energy, full

:02:37.:02:42.

of joy. And just enjoying. She's only 16 years of age. To come out

:02:43.:02:47.

into this team final and just handle that pressure, going up last on

:02:48.:02:52.

beam. Going up last on floor and producing huge tumbles. You can see

:02:53.:02:58.

just here, the full in back out, just a tiny hop back. Very minimal.

:02:59.:03:05.

Then the last, even though she'd put all that energy into the artistry,

:03:06.:03:08.

she had enough energy to do that big double tuck for the ending. The

:03:09.:03:13.

crowd here are loving her. I just want to say that we are not in

:03:14.:03:20.

control of the pictures here. 88. 923 gives Russia an interesting

:03:21.:03:26.

score on beam. This is Mustafina, who followed the first gymnast,

:03:27.:03:34.

Melnikova after a fall. Current European champion and was world

:03:35.:03:37.

champion a couple of years ago. She was. She had an absolutely terrible

:03:38.:03:43.

time in qualification. She won't contest beam in the final, but that

:03:44.:03:51.

was a super double spin. A nice controlled opening length. One of

:03:52.:03:58.

the big things gymnasts have to include is acrobatic series, as well

:03:59.:04:02.

as jump series. That was a good change leg with a half turn. She

:04:03.:04:07.

hits splits effortlessly. Happen turning flip into the free

:04:08.:04:12.

cartwheel. She's got now her two acrobatic elements joined. Going for

:04:13.:04:19.

a second one. Free walkovers into the flip. When it's going well for

:04:20.:04:28.

Mustafina she's beautiful. Soft, light, all the Russian gymnasts got

:04:29.:04:35.

a real classical training. Lovely arms. Full extension. She's pausing

:04:36.:04:42.

a bit here ready for the dismount. It's gone well. So has the dismount.

:04:43.:04:55.

Super high, double tuck. This is Madison Kocian, another gymnast that

:04:56.:04:59.

shared the world gold on bars. We've got three of them here in the team

:05:00.:05:10.

final. Kocian to build that score. A very stylish gymnast on this piece,

:05:11.:05:18.

from the. That's into the Shap, into the Pak. Up to the high bar. All

:05:19.:05:23.

these top bar workers are linking every single element. Coach just

:05:24.:05:28.

stepping in for the Jaeger salto, so high above the bar. Plenty of time

:05:29.:05:35.

to spot it. Into the full turn. Straight into the dismount. No

:05:36.:05:41.

movement on that landing. Well, that's how she made the hugely

:05:42.:05:44.

competitive team. We talked about the competition to get onto the

:05:45.:05:47.

Great Britain team. But I mean the Americans, it's another level. Oh,

:05:48.:05:52.

yes, it's really very tough. They've left gymnasts behind who would be

:05:53.:05:55.

top scorers in any of the other teams. She's a very strong bar

:05:56.:06:01.

worker. She's been able to produce that again and again. We see the

:06:02.:06:09.

British team march round there to the floor, ready for their warm-up.

:06:10.:06:18.

Well, Russia will be the first to go in that group. Russia and Great

:06:19.:06:21.

Britain going round together. They're on floor. The USA and China

:06:22.:06:27.

over on beam. We've got Brazil and Germany who move to vault. And Japan

:06:28.:06:33.

and the Netherlands on bars. Halfway round for Great Britain and this is

:06:34.:06:35.

how things look: Just doing the sums here, Russia

:06:36.:06:54.

just over two marks ahead of Great Britain. Then China are

:06:55.:06:58.

two-and-a-half marks up and Japan are half a mark up. Japan have got

:06:59.:07:05.

to go to bars and beam, which tend to be the harder pieces to score or

:07:06.:07:09.

the pieces that can you fall more on. Whereas Great Britain have got

:07:10.:07:13.

floor and vault left. They are two very strong pieces of apparatus.

:07:14.:07:18.

Like we said earlier on, we're not in control of the pictures here.

:07:19.:07:21.

We're trying to do everything we can to show you the important routines.

:07:22.:07:26.

That's why we're watching Mustafina again. We're trying to play in what

:07:27.:07:30.

we can. We have an international feed. It's complicated to say the

:07:31.:07:34.

least. It is. But as she did such a good performance, I'm sure all those

:07:35.:07:38.

gymnastic lovers will be more than happy. Mustafina's probably one of

:07:39.:07:44.

the world's most popular gymnasts. She was a great junior. Had a very

:07:45.:07:50.

nasty injury in 2011, knee operation. Came back at 2012,

:07:51.:07:54.

probably not quite as good as she was before the injury. Still had a

:07:55.:08:00.

great championships in 2012 and thrilled to see her back here.

:08:01.:08:06.

That's confirmation of the score. Good, high score. Again, you can see

:08:07.:08:15.

Japan in the fourth place. As Beth was saying, I guess that's why

:08:16.:08:18.

gymnastics is the way it is, you have all the different pieces of

:08:19.:08:22.

apparatus that test the body. For some countries, certain pieces suit

:08:23.:08:27.

others. Japan's weakest pieces to come. It's interesting going round

:08:28.:08:31.

with Russia. We're doing the same piece as them at the same time. It's

:08:32.:08:37.

a very comparable score with Russia. Russia struggled on floor in

:08:38.:08:41.

qualification. It will be interesting to see how they fare in

:08:42.:08:49.

this team final. The tentative beam awaits Team USA. This is Alexandra

:08:50.:08:53.

Raisman, current Olympic bronze medallist on beam. Tentative is not

:08:54.:08:59.

a word I would ever use to describe the American team. They take this

:09:00.:09:07.

piece of apparatus and own it. With that first front somersault, not a

:09:08.:09:12.

flicker. That could have easily been a big wobble. But her confidence

:09:13.:09:19.

ensured it was only a small wobble. Have to do acrobatic and spins and

:09:20.:09:26.

leaps. You need to be fluent, not too many pauses. The American girls

:09:27.:09:38.

do usually work with good rhythm. Another acrobatic skill, free

:09:39.:09:42.

cartwheel. Now that is the most tentative element we've seen her do

:09:43.:09:51.

yet. The leap with the half turn. Very nice front somersault. My

:09:52.:09:55.

criticism would be that when she does her jumps and leaps she doesn't

:09:56.:09:59.

always hit a split position. The judges will have little deductions

:10:00.:10:04.

for that. Certainly won't have many deductions for wobbles. Of course,

:10:05.:10:12.

like all great gymnasts, she's got a fantastic dismount. Quite an amazing

:10:13.:10:19.

dismount, double Arabian, round off half turn into double front and

:10:20.:10:22.

makes it just look like she's doing a jump off the end. How do they do

:10:23.:10:30.

it? I mean, the mind boggles. Simone Biles will be up shortly. Hopefully

:10:31.:10:37.

we will get a chance to see her. For now, we will join Teramoto from

:10:38.:10:41.

Japan. Japan in fourth at the moment. The stoop with the full turn

:10:42.:10:54.

into the Gienger, between the bars. Stoop with the half turn, straight

:10:55.:11:00.

into the front somersault. Really clean catch, straight arms. Using

:11:01.:11:05.

the stoop element a lot. Straight down to the low bar. Up to the high

:11:06.:11:11.

bar. Just got one big task to finish this routine, the wind up, into the

:11:12.:11:18.

dismount. Using the back in full and coach very pleased with that

:11:19.:11:20.

routine. One of the more experienced

:11:21.:11:25.

gymnasts. Competed in London. Second Olympics. Yes, quite an efficient

:11:26.:11:34.

routine, nothing sparkly and exciting, but very clean, very

:11:35.:11:40.

efficient. I would describe her gymnastics like that, she has a rip

:11:41.:11:45.

on her hand I think. Yeah. Wants to show all her team-mates. I got that

:11:46.:11:50.

in Rio! That's right. And I didn't jump off the bar. There's the huge

:11:51.:12:00.

Gienger between the low bars and the big Jaeger salto. She's looking for

:12:01.:12:06.

the bar the whole time, where she's placing her hands. It will be

:12:07.:12:11.

interesting to know where did she get that rip, which part of the

:12:12.:12:16.

routine. You can't see it there yet. Oh,

:12:17.:12:20.

lovely, she's just ripped the skin off and put it on the floor.

:12:21.:12:31.

Rebeca Andrade for Brazil. Hopefully she'll have more luck than

:12:32.:12:37.

on floor. You Yurchenko entry into the two-and-a-half and a huge vault.

:12:38.:12:41.

Considering she had a major injury just over a year ago, they've done

:12:42.:12:47.

so well to get her back fit and completing the Yurchenko

:12:48.:12:56.

two-and-a-half. Tutkhalian awaits the judges. The sparkle this young

:12:57.:13:01.

gymnast has has fed into the senior Russian team. She's qualified fourth

:13:02.:13:04.

for the all-round final in a few days' time. A 5. 8 difficulty. She's

:13:05.:13:13.

not holding back on this piece. She's a bouncy little gymnast. This

:13:14.:13:20.

is a power-packed routine. Starts with a double straight. Very nice

:13:21.:13:23.

landing. Two whips, double pike, oh, big step

:13:24.:13:37.

back there, though. It's been clean, expressive dance.

:13:38.:13:59.

Two very nice twisting elements. And little bit of lack of control at

:14:00.:14:21.

the end of that spin. Full of energy. Oh, a little rebound

:14:22.:14:41.

on that landing as well. Not completely clean, the landings. Some

:14:42.:14:47.

little deductions that you take from the execution score. But a lively

:14:48.:14:53.

performance. As a team, Russia are European champions. They took the

:14:54.:14:57.

silver at the last Olympics. This is going to be a very, very interesting

:14:58.:15:03.

competition. The third piece of apparatus, the third of four. Great

:15:04.:15:08.

Britain will be next to go on floor. Aly Raisman scores 15, that puts the

:15:09.:15:24.

team total to 108.356. 14.866 four Japan, who were for. Things changing

:15:25.:15:29.

around all the time. A nice double straight, although actually in slow

:15:30.:15:32.

motion you can see the slightly loose likes. Here are the two whip

:15:33.:15:39.

somersaults. Into the flick and the double pike. Just buckled slightly

:15:40.:15:45.

on the take off and hold it in knowing that. That has caused the

:15:46.:15:50.

over rotation. Using the double tuck for the last tumble. Like crisps

:15:51.:15:54.

and, not entirely perfection throughout the whole routine. --

:15:55.:15:55.

like Chris Budd. Rebeca Andrade scores 15.4 for

:15:56.:16:01.

Brazil. 13.766 four Seda Tutkhalyan. Mustafina is next

:16:02.:16:22.

to go, the current Olympic bronze medallist. You have two be really

:16:23.:16:26.

very clean on floor to go into the 14s. It's a hard piece to score one,

:16:27.:16:28.

really. Mustafina hosted a 5.7 in

:16:29.:16:43.

qualification. Her experience counts for a lot in 18 final. -- in a team

:16:44.:16:53.

final. She has been lost up, trying to keep calm, trying to keep the

:16:54.:16:57.

team is composed as possible. They need her now.

:16:58.:17:10.

That is an important element, the spin. Held the leg beautifully. Full

:17:11.:17:21.

twisting double back. Enjoy this beautiful dance work.

:17:22.:17:53.

Such a beautiful shoulder line. Like a ballerina. She has used the ballet

:17:54.:18:04.

work, the spins. Two somersaults, beautiful landing. This time she

:18:05.:18:10.

makes the triple spin. She comes up for this big double

:18:11.:18:35.

tuck dismount. A real classy, classical routine. Not as difficult

:18:36.:18:40.

as many we will see, but one of the most beautiful. One more piece to go

:18:41.:18:45.

for Russia. There's a real chase on for that silver medal position with

:18:46.:18:49.

China. But out in gold medal position at the team USA. Just

:18:50.:18:56.

prepare to be amazed, how does this gymnast do that? Goodness me. It is

:18:57.:19:02.

very tough, she is so strong in the likes. To spin in a squat position

:19:03.:19:07.

is very hard. She is also dynamic and determined. A front somersault

:19:08.:19:18.

with half term. -- half turn. As soon as she has finished one

:19:19.:19:23.

element, she is off to the next. No long pauses. It could have easily

:19:24.:19:28.

come off, but she wasn't going to. She had made her mind up before she

:19:29.:19:33.

started. Just the slightest hesitation between the front

:19:34.:19:39.

somersault. If you can persuade the gymnast to keep the rhythm like

:19:40.:19:43.

this, in many ways it helps. The longer you stand around, the more

:19:44.:19:49.

the nerves get to you. Very nicely done, that series.

:19:50.:19:58.

The free walkover. Everything is choreographed. The arms are the same

:19:59.:20:08.

every time. Enjoy this! Full twisting double back. Super

:20:09.:20:13.

dismount. She was nervous I think. That's the most I've seen her have

:20:14.:20:19.

to fight, you can see. That was shaky for Simone Biles. The mind

:20:20.:20:24.

boggles. Her training regime, the rats that she does in order to be

:20:25.:20:29.

that confident. And yet, it was shaky for her. It was, she had to

:20:30.:20:39.

fight. 130.955 for Russia at the moment. That is a good score because

:20:40.:20:45.

she only had a low difficulty. But then she did perform and

:20:46.:20:52.

beautifully. Just a little pause to wait for the score to come around.

:20:53.:20:57.

She's made every single final possible, Simone Biles. Her score is

:20:58.:21:10.

15.3 on beam. Simone says, I'll have that, and put all of the experience

:21:11.:21:14.

down to knowing how that beam feels for the all-round final which will

:21:15.:21:20.

be in a few days' time. Just look across the board, 46, 46, 45.

:21:21.:21:28.

But this is what it's all about. Russia, China, Japan, Great Britain.

:21:29.:21:34.

All going to be in the mix when it comes to the final piece of

:21:35.:21:40.

apparatus. It's interesting now, China are over on beam. They're very

:21:41.:21:44.

renowned for this piece. As we've seen, they can have errors on it.

:21:45.:21:49.

Great Britain are on floor which is a very dynamic piece for us. Germany

:21:50.:21:54.

are over on vault and the Netherlands are on bars. Of course,

:21:55.:22:00.

Germany, their real strong piece is bars. They've still got that to

:22:01.:22:06.

come. Interestingly, as far as the Chinese gymnasts are concerned, they

:22:07.:22:10.

have Shang Chunsong who is 20 years old. She is the most experienced in

:22:11.:22:15.

the team. But there two 16-year-olds as well. As the pressure builds,

:22:16.:22:19.

they have been more tentative peace is still to come. You have to ask

:22:20.:22:25.

yourself the question, how will they cope at this level? This is the

:22:26.:22:29.

Olympic final and you have two 16-year-olds. Can they cope? I'm

:22:30.:22:35.

sure they will. Great Britain also has a 16-year-old on the floor as

:22:36.:22:40.

well. I actually think sometimes the youngsters come in wide-eyed and

:22:41.:22:45.

excited. Sometimes it's actually a bit easier being young, particularly

:22:46.:22:47.

when you've been to one Olympics and loved it. You really want to get

:22:48.:22:53.

back and do another Olympics. Sometimes you can be a bit desperate

:22:54.:22:57.

about it. Where is the youngsters just go with it. I'm sure lots of

:22:58.:23:04.

you, if you are staying up late, will be inspired. You can get

:23:05.:23:07.

involved by going to the website at the bottom of the screen. Perhaps we

:23:08.:23:15.

should give a mention to Sean O'Neill. Do you remember that

:23:16.:23:19.

picture we saw this morning? He thought he was a British gymnast,

:23:20.:23:26.

had a swing on the post but ended up with a few stitches. If you will get

:23:27.:23:34.

inspired, do be careful! So, China's bid on beam begins with Wang Yan,

:23:35.:23:44.

the first of the 16-year-olds. Who, I have to say, did impress me in the

:23:45.:23:51.

qualification day. Super high hike front somersault. -- Pike front

:23:52.:23:59.

somersault. But she wouldn't get those two jumps linked. They're

:24:00.:24:07.

quite low, actually. In direct contrast to the Americans. We've had

:24:08.:24:12.

a long wait on the end. But a very nice straight back somersault. The

:24:13.:24:19.

judges do deduct a bit for these long wait. But they deduct more if

:24:20.:24:24.

you fall off. So if gymnasts have a choice, they go for that. Strong

:24:25.:24:38.

free walkover. Nicely performed. They have to do at least eight

:24:39.:24:42.

moves, five of them acrobatic. Three of them should be leaked or spins.

:24:43.:24:52.

-- leaps or spins. They add up to give you a difficulty score. It

:24:53.:24:56.

might have been a bit static, but it hasn't been wobbly. She hasn't

:24:57.:25:00.

fallen. She has a super triple twist dismount. They will be happy with

:25:01.:25:08.

that. Wang Yan is through. Her job is through. She was in the world

:25:09.:25:24.

final and she fell at there. Just correcting a little wobbly. There

:25:25.:25:28.

you saw the two leaps but did join. Each gymnast hast you have two leaps

:25:29.:25:34.

that join. Or a leap and a spin. You have to have two dance element and

:25:35.:25:40.

two acrobatic elements linked. Just a reminder that China wherein second

:25:41.:25:46.

going into this rotation. Russia not far behind. Japan in fourth, Great

:25:47.:25:52.

Britain with this. -- Great Britain worth it. Gymnasts keeping warm and

:25:53.:25:58.

keeping their heads down. Quite a lot don't like to watch the

:25:59.:26:00.

performer before them. They like to go into the zone. R B Douglas. The

:26:01.:26:06.

only piece she is working today are the bars. -- Gabby Douglas. Russia

:26:07.:26:18.

put in an appeal on Mustafina's floor score but it has been

:26:19.:26:23.

rejected. There will be no change to the floor score. Just a little more

:26:24.:26:27.

warm up going on for China as far as beam is concerned. We will go across

:26:28.:26:37.

to vault now. Germany with a 5.4 difficulty. Using the handspring

:26:38.:26:44.

entry. Straight shape with the half-tone and a good clean landing.

:26:45.:26:50.

The first Olympic Games or Pauline Schafer. This was their weakest

:26:51.:26:53.

piece as far as qualification was concerned. A relatively simple

:26:54.:27:00.

vault, but she performs it very nicely. Lovely straight body. Hands,

:27:01.:27:04.

and create new twist. Very nicely done. -- Hans come up and create the

:27:05.:27:14.

twist. Let's joy in Ellie Downie from Great Britain on floor. Great

:27:15.:27:19.

Britain in fifth as it stands. -- let's join.

:27:20.:27:25.

LA has had an up and down time here on floor. A bit of an injury in

:27:26.:27:33.

qualification. She will be very keen to put that behind her. One and a

:27:34.:27:38.

half twists. A smooth walk out into double Arabian. What a beautiful

:27:39.:27:40.

landing. This is a second very big tumble

:27:41.:27:53.

that she struggled a little bit with. Double pike to Arabian. No

:27:54.:27:56.

trouble today. Now she's done two somersaulting

:27:57.:28:04.

tumbles. Here a twisting tumble. One big tumble to go. Go, Ellie! All

:28:05.:28:41.

that power. Double pike. Lovely landing.

:28:42.:28:46.

Great performance from Ellie. Putting all the demons to rest.

:28:47.:28:53.

Really super floor performance. I mean, it really is her style to pack

:28:54.:28:58.

in the difficulty, go all out. We'll have to see if she stepped out of

:28:59.:29:01.

the floor. We'll see as far as the scores are concerned. But that

:29:02.:29:06.

follows a 14. 466 from Amy Tinkler. Wow. You were saying, Chris, about

:29:07.:29:15.

how hard it is to get the floor score over 14. Amy Tinkler, 14. 466.

:29:16.:29:25.

Germany on 14. 266. Tinkler, of course, qualified for floor final.

:29:26.:29:32.

You can see here one-and-a-half walkout. Looking for that corner

:29:33.:29:38.

into the round-off flip, double Arabian and spots that landing.

:29:39.:29:46.

She's so spatially aware. She is. Here's the double pike Arabian.

:29:47.:29:49.

We're not sure, this is the tumble we were checking. That looks in.

:29:50.:29:54.

That looks in. This is the tumble that she came to grief on in the

:29:55.:30:04.

qualification. The clean double pike at the end. We're not sure if the

:30:05.:30:08.

flag was actually raised before she did one of her tumbles. We will see

:30:09.:30:13.

for the score to come out whether they've given her a penalty or not.

:30:14.:30:17.

It looks like Ruby might be telling her. You stepped out before you

:30:18.:30:22.

went. A clean flag waver for some reason. I don't know what's going

:30:23.:30:26.

on. The difficulty score card is out so the British team can check and

:30:27.:30:29.

make sure that everything is in order. A tentative wait for Ellie.

:30:30.:30:34.

Can you see sister Becky at the moment saying you just relax. I'll

:30:35.:30:38.

take control. Becky's finished now. She's done her two pieces. She can

:30:39.:30:43.

play the mother hen. The only gymnast in the team that's been to

:30:44.:30:48.

an Olympics before. Talking about that, we've only got 11 gymnasts in

:30:49.:30:52.

this whole qualification that have been to the Olympics before. There's

:30:53.:30:55.

a lot of new, young faces coming out. This is one of them, because

:30:56.:31:01.

Simone Biles, as wonderful as she is, she wasn't old enough to compete

:31:02.:31:07.

in London 2012. She made her senior debut shortly after that. She has

:31:08.:31:15.

taken over the world. 0. 1 penalty. Big sister not happy. She's off to

:31:16.:31:22.

go and put in an inquiry. The inquiry actually has to be put in by

:31:23.:31:26.

the head of delegation. The gymnasts themselves can't decide, "Oh, I

:31:27.:31:33.

don't like that score." We're watching the two teams here that are

:31:34.:31:42.

finished. We're about to go to the beam.

:31:43.:31:54.

The last gymnast to go from their three. They're on a 29. 532 at the

:31:55.:32:05.

moment. 6. 4 difficulty in qualification. She's going all out.

:32:06.:32:13.

She is. China are very good on beam. They're always very technically

:32:14.:32:16.

correct. Lovely, straight somersault. They've nearly all

:32:17.:32:20.

performed that. Two jumps afterwards. On a really good day she

:32:21.:32:25.

would probably join the straight somersault to the two jumps. Head

:32:26.:32:32.

beautifully back on those two jumps. Very supple gymnast, as you can see.

:32:33.:32:39.

Leaping to free walkover. Leap in to the side somme. I've been

:32:40.:32:59.

impressed with the Chinese. They definitely define good leaps into

:33:00.:33:04.

good acrobatics. Change leg into free cartwheel.

:33:05.:33:13.

She really hasn't put a foot wrong so far. They've all favoured the

:33:14.:33:21.

triple twist dismount. That was beautifully performed. Great

:33:22.:33:26.

routines from China. China in second at the moment. I'm sure that is

:33:27.:33:30.

where they will stay. This is Amy Tinkler for Great Britain. She was

:33:31.:33:38.

first up. She's in the floor final. Good start. Spin into a jump. Very

:33:39.:33:48.

enjoyable routine. Watch this big, first tumble. Double straight

:33:49.:33:58.

somersault with a full twist. We've already had one huge tumble, here

:33:59.:34:03.

comes another. Double twisting, double tuck, chest down a bit on

:34:04.:34:04.

landing. Good leaps. She's one of the

:34:05.:34:34.

youngest gymnasts in the competition. One-and-a-half walkout

:34:35.:34:37.

into double tuck. Super landing there. Really packed the difficulty

:34:38.:34:54.

in. Upone final big tumble to go. Have to finish with at least a D,

:34:55.:34:58.

she does, double pike, no trouble at all.

:34:59.:35:03.

Great stuff, can you see why she made the floor final. Absolutely.

:35:04.:35:09.

And achieved a 14. 666 for Great Britain. So she started off the last

:35:10.:35:13.

gymnast to go for Great Britain is Claudia Fragapane. Here we go with

:35:14.:35:18.

the Commonwealth champion. Great on beam. What can she do here

:35:19.:35:22.

on floor? Well she's got the most amazing

:35:23.:35:39.

difficulty in this routine. Double straight with a twist. And a jump at

:35:40.:35:46.

the end of it. If you can jump out of these tumbles, then you get a

:35:47.:35:51.

little bit more. This is a really difficult second tumble, double

:35:52.:35:54.

piked Arabian, super high. A big step out. Not sure if it was two

:35:55.:36:02.

feet. If it is two feet, it's 0. 3 deduction. Recovers herself, well

:36:03.:36:15.

into the next series of jumps. You need enormous fitness for this

:36:16.:36:23.

nonstop tempo routine. Selling the routine. Very big tumble, triple

:36:24.:36:32.

twist, that was clean. Into the jump. Very nice control in the

:36:33.:36:45.

double spin. She's very ambitious with this last tumble. Most people

:36:46.:36:49.

only manage to start with this. It's a double straight and she's managed

:36:50.:36:57.

to finish with it. Well that was a great routine. But you saw the flag

:36:58.:37:02.

just lifted there. What a shame. I mean that was just millimetres out

:37:03.:37:06.

at the end. It looked to me like she's nailed that landing, but the

:37:07.:37:10.

judges sit incredibly close to those corners. It was certainly a big

:37:11.:37:13.

deduction with the step out on the previous tumble. You know, what it

:37:14.:37:18.

just wasn't to be. She didn't hold back. She didn't hold back, that's

:37:19.:37:23.

the main thing. No, and it wasn't a major fall over or anything. You can

:37:24.:37:31.

see here, the very powerful back in full straight. Jumping into that

:37:32.:37:35.

jump. There was a slight hop in between. They won't give that

:37:36.:37:38.

connection. You can see the penalties there. Up on the

:37:39.:37:46.

difficulty there 6. 4. What a shame. What a shame, we've given away 0. 5

:37:47.:37:51.

out of the areas. I know the coaches will be very disappointed. They work

:37:52.:37:57.

hard not to do that. Just a bit down on beam there. Not where they'd want

:37:58.:38:04.

to be on floor. 129. 596 for the British team. Even now it's kind of

:38:05.:38:10.

looking up to the scoreboard, a story of what could have been. Such

:38:11.:38:17.

a tight fight this. China and Russia very much in contention. Japan as

:38:18.:38:21.

well, which colour medal will they all end up? The great thing for

:38:22.:38:29.

Russia and for Great Britain is they're heading over to the vault,

:38:30.:38:33.

which is a high scoring piece for us, but also not so great for us,

:38:34.:38:37.

it's a high scoring piece for Russia. She have a Yurchenko

:38:38.:38:41.

two-and-a-half twist. We'll have to sit and wait it out.

:38:42.:39:00.

Great Britain will go first up on vault. We will set the standard for

:39:01.:39:09.

Russia going up second. China will go up first on floor with the USA

:39:10.:39:13.

finishing off the competition on floor. Which will be a great treat

:39:14.:39:19.

for everybody really, the USA finishing on floor. You could see

:39:20.:39:27.

the inquiry into the judges. China have taken the competition to USA,

:39:28.:39:32.

at the moment. We're still waiting for the last score. The judges here

:39:33.:39:39.

discussion about what they should be giving and shouldn't be giving.

:39:40.:39:47.

Yilin Fan waiting for her score, wondering. Have they given a good

:39:48.:39:55.

gap between Russia going into the final piece of apparatus? Great

:39:56.:40:02.

Britain are using Claudia Fragapane, Amy Tinkler and Ellie Downie on our

:40:03.:40:13.

final piece of apparatus. Ellie was superb in the qualification round.

:40:14.:40:17.

She had a flight injury on floor and that punch front somersault. Stopped

:40:18.:40:21.

her routine, she went out of the arena, then came back in and did two

:40:22.:40:26.

vaults and she nailed them. She did. She is a really very, very good

:40:27.:40:30.

vaulter. Her scores weren't quite as high as we would have expected had

:40:31.:40:35.

she just gone to vault without any problem. But she showed just what a

:40:36.:40:40.

gritty performer she is by being able to almost go in cold and two

:40:41.:40:47.

big vaults. They are the same three that competed in the World

:40:48.:40:52.

Championships team final where they vaulted like for the team medal as

:40:53.:40:56.

well. All three of them know what it's like to be under that pressure.

:40:57.:40:59.

We remember Ellie's vault there. The score is in. China will take that

:41:00.:41:19.

and move on to the last pee piece of apparatus.

:41:20.:41:37.

They are 2. 174 outside the medals at the moment, Great Britain.

:41:38.:41:50.

Here's one of the Japanese bar routines, the stoop into the full

:41:51.:41:54.

turn. Straight up to the high bar using the stoop position. Down to

:41:55.:42:01.

the low bar. Very clean work so far. Change in direction to get back to

:42:02.:42:06.

the high bar. The stoop with the half turn. Into the straight.

:42:07.:42:14.

Straight into the Jaeger. Finishing off the dismount using the giant

:42:15.:42:20.

into the back in full. Very pleased and her team-mates are also very

:42:21.:42:25.

pleased with that routine. A huge score of a 15. This is a series of

:42:26.:42:30.

moves that are being used by many of the gymnasts at the end of this

:42:31.:42:35.

championships we will have a slight change to the judging system. This

:42:36.:42:37.

is how things look: Great Britain are 2. 176 outside of

:42:38.:42:54.

the medals. Is that too big an ask as far as vault is concerned? When

:42:55.:42:58.

you look that Russia are also on the same piece of apparatus as us,

:42:59.:43:03.

obviously, Japan are moving to beam, they could make errors over there.

:43:04.:43:08.

It is a lot more difficult to score into the high 14s, low 15s. Russia

:43:09.:43:13.

are two marks ahead of us. Unless they have some major mistakes,

:43:14.:43:17.

unfortunately, I don't think we'll quite catch them. China didn't have

:43:18.:43:21.

a very happy time at all on floor in qualification. You know, you only

:43:22.:43:27.

need one gymnast to fall over twice, but you wouldn't really expect with

:43:28.:43:33.

their experience to do that. Look at the height of that for Ellie. You

:43:34.:43:36.

wouldn't have expected what happened to Great Britain as far as the flags

:43:37.:43:39.

were concerned. No, you wouldn't. You never know. You vault your best

:43:40.:43:43.

and wait and see. What we're saying is this still could go anywhere!

:43:44.:43:54.

With one pee to go. That's the -- piece of apparatus to go. If they

:43:55.:44:02.

have one gymnast who has major problems that could put them out of

:44:03.:44:06.

medal contention. Having three up, three to count is a very, very tough

:44:07.:44:11.

format for our gymnasts. We have actually over the years seen

:44:12.:44:14.

one or two of the American gymnasts do that, particularly on floor. It

:44:15.:44:20.

can be one of the things unexpectedly kicks back at you. I

:44:21.:44:28.

would say the teams have been strong here today. Just like with the men,

:44:29.:44:33.

the best teams have worked really well. Just a reminder, Netherlands

:44:34.:44:41.

and Japan are on beam. Great Britain and Russia on vault, and Germany and

:44:42.:44:49.

Brazil are on bars, third rotation, USA lead, China second, Japan third,

:44:50.:44:55.

Russia fourth, Great Britain fifth. The first gymnast on floor for

:44:56.:45:03.

China, just outside the medals at last year's worlds on floor.

:45:04.:45:11.

Starts with a huge twisting somersault. Three and a half twists.

:45:12.:45:23.

Into a lovely hike front somersault. The only question was was it three

:45:24.:45:31.

and a half or three and a quarter? Now moves back for a second tumble.

:45:32.:45:40.

One and a half walk out. This time into the triple twist. Very clever

:45:41.:45:48.

use of the judging system. That was a very nice spin.

:45:49.:46:06.

Two and a half with a half turn. Nice supple body on the jumps.

:46:07.:46:22.

Rather unusual music. Difficult to interpret. Well-controlled double

:46:23.:46:30.

pike. She needed that double somersault. No twisting elements

:46:31.:46:39.

until then, but that was cleanly through. China looking very, very

:46:40.:46:45.

good in this silver medal position. Interestingly, China have never won

:46:46.:46:49.

a silver medal at the Olympic team final. They do have a gold and a

:46:50.:46:55.

bronze. The last medal was Beijing. Amy Tinkler now for Great Britain.

:46:56.:47:02.

The second vaulter after cloudier scored 14.7. In the top corner she

:47:03.:47:11.

has posted a 5.8. She powers down, a double twist and a great landing.

:47:12.:47:17.

Not much to deduct from there. That was as good a vault as any we've

:47:18.:47:24.

seen with a double twist. You can see here that twisting three and a

:47:25.:47:29.

half was into three and a quarter, but with the code the way it is if

:47:30.:47:32.

you've not quite finished but still punch than they still give you the

:47:33.:47:37.

credit. Then the one and a half into the triple twist and immediately

:47:38.:47:40.

punches the. This gymnast really knows how to use this code. She

:47:41.:47:45.

chooses to wear the Sox to help complete the spins. That was five, I

:47:46.:47:54.

think. Then the two and a half twist into the punch half. All three first

:47:55.:48:01.

tumbles using the twisting, and then hast to show a double twist

:48:02.:48:04.

somersault right at the end of the routine because it's a special

:48:05.:48:13.

requirement. Then finish it off. And says, "That is my job done!" Very

:48:14.:48:19.

much so. She was an impressive in training, but both days of the

:48:20.:48:22.

competition she has got herself together. There will be people who

:48:23.:48:25.

will feel they are not impressed to see the three and a quarter twist

:48:26.:48:31.

and then punch out of it to disguise it and use the loophole in the

:48:32.:48:33.

judging system. Well, we said it is difficult to get

:48:34.:48:50.

a score over 14. A 14.933 four Amy Tinkler! That will send Ellie Downie

:48:51.:48:54.

with quite a bit of spring to the end of the vault runway. She has

:48:55.:49:01.

been reliable in the past on vault. 14.7, a big score for China. Very

:49:02.:49:07.

big. Nothing like they scored in qualification. We did feel they were

:49:08.:49:10.

a little hard done by in qualification. Next up for China is

:49:11.:49:19.

a floor finalist. This is Wang Yan. A hugely difficult routine, this.

:49:20.:49:25.

6.3. Look out for the connections and the little punches, the extra

:49:26.:49:27.

moves on the end of the big tumbles. This gymnast does have some big

:49:28.:49:48.

tumbles. Double twisting, double tuck. Very nicely controlled.

:49:49.:49:56.

To show she can do the multiple twists as well, one half full card.

:49:57.:50:02.

Lovely and smooth. Over this last four years we've seen

:50:03.:50:55.

the Chinese gymnasts struggle with the new floors, struggled with

:50:56.:50:59.

tumbling. But this young lady has really found the key. A lovely

:51:00.:51:02.

double pike to finish with a super landing. That was a masterclass. It

:51:03.:51:09.

was a masterclass as far as floor is concerned. We were talking about the

:51:10.:51:13.

level of gymnastics and how far it's gone over the years, well, I'm sure

:51:14.:51:18.

and I hope you're enjoying what we think is probably the finest display

:51:19.:51:22.

of International gymnastics that we have ever seen. This team from China

:51:23.:51:28.

are greatly improved. They've taken on board the pieces they've

:51:29.:51:31.

struggled with. A whole new young team. They're really coming out

:51:32.:51:36.

fighting. When you think about Great Britain now on 174.362, which

:51:37.:51:44.

suggests that Ellie had a very good volt battery -- very good vault

:51:45.:51:51.

Indy. We will do our best to bring you that vault shortly. She left

:51:52.:51:56.

enough energy for great tumbling on the floor as well. That's the triple

:51:57.:52:05.

twist. So clever, because if your chest is down you can still on tuck.

:52:06.:52:11.

This one was impressive. Double twist, double tuck, chest up.

:52:12.:52:19.

Heidi, light. Committed to the landing. -- High, light. The

:52:20.:52:34.

expression as well. It's all there. I saw Ellie's vault and it was

:52:35.:52:38.

unbelievable, absolutely nailed the landing. We will take that. It was a

:52:39.:52:46.

score of 15.133 four Ellie on bolts. We hope to bring you that so you can

:52:47.:52:50.

see the unbelievable vault very soon. 14.733 four Wang Yan from

:52:51.:52:59.

China. They are really building strongly on floor. Mao Yi will be

:53:00.:53:06.

the last gymnast, another 16-year-old, in this floor final for

:53:07.:53:12.

China. She did fall in qualification and she only scored 11.7. No doubt

:53:13.:53:17.

she will have been in the training gym to put everything right. She

:53:18.:53:21.

will have been. The coaches will have spent a bit of time. A lot of

:53:22.:53:26.

coaches were struggling with the floor qualification. It was giving

:53:27.:53:30.

quite a kick back and many were struggling to find the landing. That

:53:31.:53:39.

was one. Three and a half twists, punch front straight out of the

:53:40.:53:43.

floor area. She really needs to settle down. They can't afford

:53:44.:53:50.

another 11. One and a half twists into the triple twist. That was

:53:51.:53:51.

better. She needs to focus, make sure this

:53:52.:54:16.

tumble works as well. Two and a half, punch front hop. That was much

:54:17.:54:20.

better. Controlled the speed of the run.

:54:21.:54:38.

Rather simple leaps, those. She will need difficult leaps as well as

:54:39.:54:46.

difficult tumbles to build difficulty. Focus well. Good double

:54:47.:54:54.

tuck, but her feet nearly fell away from home again. Well, Russia will

:54:55.:54:58.

have been watching that very, very closely. This is going to be tight.

:54:59.:55:03.

I was quickly trying to do the maths in my head and it looks like she

:55:04.:55:08.

needs a 10.992 to go ahead of Great Britain. She will do that, but here

:55:09.:55:18.

you can see that first tumble, the three and a half. She struggled with

:55:19.:55:23.

it in qualification. Totally out of the floor. But picked herself back

:55:24.:55:29.

up. The one and a half walk out into the round off flick. And the lovely

:55:30.:55:39.

triple twist. Yes, the Russians over on vault at the moment. They are

:55:40.:55:43.

rotating around with Great Britain. They will have seen that and they

:55:44.:55:47.

will know that there is a chance for silver. And then the two and a half

:55:48.:55:53.

twists. This is what makes this format so great because as every

:55:54.:56:00.

score has to count, you can almost, we were counting it home and dry for

:56:01.:56:05.

China. But one person having an absolute nightmare like that, she

:56:06.:56:08.

could have put those hands down a there. The last time China got a

:56:09.:56:21.

bronze was in 1984. The total for Germany, 173.672. Just waiting here.

:56:22.:56:32.

A shame, really, because the team from China have been very strong.

:56:33.:56:36.

Much improved. But it's always been there, systems the little bit that

:56:37.:56:48.

has been suspect. The Sox often don't help with a blind landing.

:56:49.:56:55.

With a blind landing, you may just slip. Unless there is lots and lots

:56:56.:56:58.

of short on the floor, they will just slip. I don't think that's what

:56:59.:57:05.

happened on that first tumble! Her chest was so far in front of her

:57:06.:57:08.

feet when she landed the three and a half. She just bounded out. We're

:57:09.:57:14.

just waiting for a score from China and also a score from Sanne Wevers

:57:15.:57:20.

from the Netherlands team on beam. Then it will move into the second

:57:21.:57:26.

half of this rotation. We have been talking about the Downie sisters.

:57:27.:57:32.

Lieke and Sanne Wevers on the Netherlands are actually twins.

:57:33.:57:38.

Quite a moment for their dad, who is also their coach. He's down on the

:57:39.:57:43.

floor with them as well. A very special moment for their family. You

:57:44.:57:50.

can see the Americans waiting to get up on floor. Gaby and Madison would

:57:51.:57:54.

be working on the floor, so there stood waiting to cheer their team

:57:55.:57:58.

on. It's a long wait for this score to come through.

:57:59.:58:13.

The judges are really taking a very long time over this floor score.

:58:14.:58:19.

They will have a lot to talk about because I suspect they will be

:58:20.:58:22.

wondering whether they actually credit the move. As she didn't

:58:23.:58:28.

completely somersault, she got her feet down first, but it is a fall.

:58:29.:58:39.

Both feet right out. I'm surprised they got quite as much as that. I

:58:40.:58:43.

wonder if the judges will be tired by the time the news starts. --

:58:44.:58:48.

judges will decide by the time the news starts. That will be coming

:58:49.:58:52.

very shortly and we will be switching over to BBC Two. We will

:58:53.:59:00.

just keep waiting. It's in, it's 12.633. That gives them a total of

:59:01.:59:05.

176. Russia with it all to do if they won the silver medal.

:59:06.:59:17.

176 is the score for China of the teams already finished, that put

:59:18.:59:23.

them in the lead. Four more teams to go. The second half of each

:59:24.:59:32.

rotation, USA were in the lead at the end of round three. You've got

:59:33.:59:36.

the picture here of Simone Biles waiting to warm up. Well, Russia

:59:37.:59:44.

need an average of 14.469 and Japan need an average of 14.196 two medal.

:59:45.:59:49.

Join us soon on BBC Two. nothing says Rio de Janeiro

:59:50.:00:23.

quite like it. So I've come here to Rio to explore

:00:24.:00:29.

the culture and the people

:00:30.:00:34.
