Hello again. Welcome back to the Olympic City, Rio Olympic Games. The

:00:45.:00:54.

sun is shining, it is about 25 Celsius, and out there, hotter on

:00:55.:01:00.

Copacabana Beach. And nothing stops the pilgrimage,

:01:01.:01:03.

the locals to the beach. It is packed there.

:01:04.:01:08.

But there is no time for day dreaming and indeed lolling in the

:01:09.:01:11.

sun today for Britain's athletes and for us. This could be another hugely

:01:12.:01:18.

significant day for Great Britain's medal prospects. Day eight, perhaps

:01:19.:01:21.

another Super Saturday in the making. It has been superb at Lagoa,

:01:22.:01:28.

where Britain's rowing team claimed a gold medal and a silver in the

:01:29.:01:33.

men's and the women's eights, the last two events of the regatta.

:01:34.:01:38.

There are possibilities all over the city today, not least at the Olympic

:01:39.:01:45.

Stadium where Jessica Ennis-Hill, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah are

:01:46.:01:51.

ready to defend their titles. And also in the velodrome, where Laura

:01:52.:01:56.

trot and the team are trying to defend their medal that they won

:01:57.:02:00.

handsomely in London. But Becky James is also making her Olympic

:02:01.:02:06.

debute today from Wales. She is falling into the significant wheel

:02:07.:02:13.

marks of Victoria Pendleton. The gold medal winner in the Keirin the

:02:14.:02:18.

last time round. A lot of significant events. Let's round it

:02:19.:02:23.

up for you so far. Nicely positioned here. Responding,

:02:24.:02:34.

as does Natasha Hanson. O'Brien from Canada. Rebecca James

:02:35.:02:40.

to the front. She takes the front. It is a safe

:02:41.:02:44.

place to be. Now the race is on between the New

:02:45.:02:48.

Zealander and the Australian for the second place to go through. It will

:02:49.:02:54.

be a drag race to the finish. A good move by Hanson now. On the hip of

:02:55.:03:01.

Becky James. First through go to the next round. Becky James has been on

:03:02.:03:05.

the front for a long time. Oh, it is close. Rebecca James,

:03:06.:03:10.

relief for her. She is straight through.

:03:11.:03:16.

I was not sure how I would go compared to everyone else. I thought

:03:17.:03:19.

they were going to compiling over. But I had the legs. I managed to

:03:20.:03:23.

hold it off. Chuffed to bits.

:03:24.:03:27.

Have you ever seen anything like this, Chris? The Dutch rider, right

:03:28.:03:33.

up the side. I have seen people doing it in a stunt but never seen

:03:34.:03:38.

it in a race! And Kenny starts to wind it up on the front.

:03:39.:03:43.

Well, Jason Kenny on the front before. But he is comfortable riding

:03:44.:03:48.

in the front and the back. Trying to push the speed. High on the track.

:03:49.:03:53.

We have seen it in the past all the way to the home straight. He is

:03:54.:03:57.

taking it on the bend. He has the speed. He's going to take it

:03:58.:04:00.

comfortably. He does so. It looks when you look

:04:01.:04:06.

at it, that he has more work to do but my word this man is a real

:04:07.:04:14.

powerhouse. It looks like Constable wants to

:04:15.:04:17.

ride from the front. Skinner is happy to ride from the back. He has

:04:18.:04:22.

seen his team-mate winning from the back. He is going to push high off

:04:23.:04:28.

the bends. But Constable is high as well. A good tactic for him to get

:04:29.:04:33.

the speed. Constable with too much speed. It is close! Oh, just

:04:34.:04:40.

sneaking in, Callum Skinner, so, so close! He had to do a lot of work

:04:41.:04:47.

over the lastbound but Callum Skinner gets home ahead of Patrick

:04:48.:04:51.

Constable. Now they have Australia in the same

:04:52.:04:56.

straight. That is a boost. But the Australians are keeping it together

:04:57.:04:59.

with three. The Americans have them in the same straight, in sight.

:05:00.:05:09.

The Americans are driving through the front there, with their

:05:10.:05:12.

youngster. Australia getting a little ragged.

:05:13.:05:15.

The United States closing in on them on the bell.

:05:16.:05:23.

Australia is feeling it tough now. They will have to really move.

:05:24.:05:27.

But the Americans are absolutely flying! They are charging through

:05:28.:05:33.

here the United States. They have posted an incredible time! A new

:05:34.:05:40.

world record! Well, that is a phenomenal ride by the world

:05:41.:05:44.

champions in Rio. The United States have put a serious marker down for

:05:45.:05:48.

the final. They have broken the world record.

:05:49.:05:55.

Will we see Great Britain do enough to get into the gold medal ride? Or

:05:56.:05:59.

will they ride for a time to answer back to the USA team? We have seen

:06:00.:06:03.

now that they are gaining a lead over the Canadians.

:06:04.:06:10.

Being driven by Laura trot, the omnium Olympic champion. Driving

:06:11.:06:14.

hard on the front. She's an incredible rider, Laura

:06:15.:06:18.

trot. So, so small but with so much power. An exciting rider in the race

:06:19.:06:24.

starts. Everybody is excited to see what she

:06:25.:06:32.

can do. Now the driving force for the Great Britain team, Laura Trott.

:06:33.:06:39.

And now Elinor Barker, a new member of the squad for Great Britain.

:06:40.:06:44.

Canada trying to limit the loss at 1.20 at the moment. So Great Britain

:06:45.:06:49.

starting to apply the pressure. Canada dropping down to three

:06:50.:06:52.

riders. The fourth struggling on the back.

:06:53.:06:56.

The coach of the Great Britain team is indicating to his team that they

:06:57.:07:01.

are up on the schedule. He is happy with the time they are riding. It is

:07:02.:07:05.

a question as to whether or not they are riding to get into the gold

:07:06.:07:13.

medal contention... 1,000 metres to go. 2 seconds ahead. Canada down to

:07:14.:07:23.

three. They push hard. Katie Archibald swings back. Putting

:07:24.:07:28.

together a good ride here. Whether it will be world record pace or not.

:07:29.:07:31.

They are not worried. Down to three now.

:07:32.:07:36.

The great British coach for the first time is asking them for more.

:07:37.:07:44.

Down to three. And Archibald, Trott and Barker will

:07:45.:07:49.

bring it home for Great Britain. Now the coach is happy with the ride

:07:50.:07:53.

it is on schedule. Let's see what they are going to do.

:07:54.:07:57.

Great Britain have this in hand at the bell. They are riding a quality

:07:58.:08:02.

ride here. Will it be good enough to break the world record? It is! 4.

:08:03.:08:12.

.12.152. They have edged ahead! Superbly controlled from the Great

:08:13.:08:16.

Britain team. An amazing ride. Nobody looking under pressure. They

:08:17.:08:21.

know each other so well. The coach giving indication they were on a

:08:22.:08:23.

good one. .

:08:24.:08:28.

An amazing ride. Great Britain break the record in the qualifying, the

:08:29.:08:32.

United States break it in the previous race, now Great Britain put

:08:33.:08:37.

their marker down. What a final prospect.

:08:38.:08:41.

What a quartet. That is astonishing. The United States as you saw broke

:08:42.:08:47.

their world record in that first round then of course Great Britain

:08:48.:08:50.

broke it right back! So United States against Great Britain in the

:08:51.:08:55.

final this evening. That will be about 9.10.00pm if it goes to plan

:08:56.:09:02.

at the velodrome. So much going on. Jason Kenny, Callum Skinner through

:09:03.:09:06.

to the quarter-finals of the men's sprint and Becky James going in

:09:07.:09:12.

round two of the semi-final of the Keirin at about 8.20pm your time on

:09:13.:09:17.

the BBC! It has been a fabulous morning as Lagoa. Looking back,

:09:18.:09:22.

Great Britain's rowers have been the most successful sport of any Olympic

:09:23.:09:26.

Games for Great Britain. The only team that is have won a gold medal

:09:27.:09:29.

right back from 1984 all the way through. So a wonderful period of

:09:30.:09:34.

domination. Once again they have topped the medal table and John and

:09:35.:09:38.

Steve have been following every single oar length on the course.

:09:39.:09:43.

Let's get their thoughts on a job very well done by Great Britain's

:09:44.:09:46.

rowers. We arrived on the final day of the

:09:47.:09:53.

regatta expecting two medals on the eights. And got them. Both were

:09:54.:09:59.

hugely impressive performances? The performances were stand-out. People

:10:00.:10:03.

have been asking me what medals are we going to win it is gold and

:10:04.:10:10.

silver. Gold and silver. But it is easy for me to say, they have to do

:10:11.:10:15.

it. Especially with the women, the weight of history on them. Amazing

:10:16.:10:20.

performances. In terms of the women how significant is it to are won a

:10:21.:10:26.

first Olympic medal in the eights? It is huge. People are watching this

:10:27.:10:32.

at home, blown away by the performance. There is a saying in

:10:33.:10:36.

rowing if you can't catch or throw or kick a ball, go into a rowing

:10:37.:10:43.

boat. Will Satch did a little bit of

:10:44.:10:49.

rowing at school. He side stepped it and then came back in, now with a

:10:50.:10:55.

gold medal around his neck. So there are people out there

:10:56.:11:00.

thinking, they could be a lever in a boat. And that happened to Helen

:11:01.:11:07.

Glover. She saw the Beijing Games, she wanted it. Be inspired get out

:11:08.:11:12.

there and give it a go. And Britain top of the medals table,

:11:13.:11:17.

does it mean that Britain are top of the rowing world? Officially we are

:11:18.:11:23.

the best rowing nation in the world. The Kiwis have been pushing hard. In

:11:24.:11:27.

the World Championships some years they get it but at the Olympics it

:11:28.:11:32.

is us. I think that is important for the funding element of it, and the

:11:33.:11:36.

status and the focus that Great Britain puts on the sport. It has

:11:37.:11:39.

been a fantastic week of entertainment. One of the most

:11:40.:11:46.

extraordinary rowing races in the final of the men's single skulls, a

:11:47.:11:52.

dead heat but then they awarded that to Drysdale. So a magnificent

:11:53.:11:57.

setting, and with wonderful weather this week.

:11:58.:12:02.

And Drysdale with the second gold of the Games. And here is the medal

:12:03.:12:04.

table. An heck silver medal for the women's

:12:05.:12:20.

eight. It all adds up to five.

:12:21.:12:26.

A clear impression of how big and significant the support team is

:12:27.:12:29.

behind each of the rowers in allowing them to achieve the

:12:30.:12:35.

ambition of the Olympic medals. Paul Bennett said that he summed up the

:12:36.:12:41.

birthdays he had missed, saying that it was them that should be thanking

:12:42.:12:48.

their family for all of their help. An inspiring morning, I'm sure you

:12:49.:12:53.

will agree. And now a great evening ahead. Four years ago it was Jessica

:12:54.:12:56.

Ennis-Hill who got the party going. The first of the athletes to win the

:12:57.:13:01.

Olympic gold. Then Greg Rutherford in the long jump, followed by Mo

:13:02.:13:06.

Farah, crowning an unbelievable evening. This time, the order has

:13:07.:13:11.

changed. Jessica Ennis-Hill's events is the last as she goes for gold. Mo

:13:12.:13:18.

Farah before that, and it is Greg Rutherford up first at 12. .50am

:13:19.:13:27.

your time. Trying to defend the Olympic long

:13:28.:13:32.

jump title. It's a process of feelings, as opposed to mental

:13:33.:13:35.

skills. You get into a rhythm. As you are a

:13:36.:13:41.

accelerating down the runway it is by feel. Your mind is in a citizen

:13:42.:13:46.

area, if you like, of doing what must be done in order to jump as far

:13:47.:13:51.

as you possibly can. Can you have imagined a night like

:13:52.:13:55.

this? That gold medal changed everything. It gave me the belief

:13:56.:13:59.

that yes, I can win the major championships. Before that I thought

:14:00.:14:04.

if everything went well, there was a chance... Greg Rutherford is the

:14:05.:14:08.

Olympic champion! I went from somebody who nobody knew at all,

:14:09.:14:13.

indeed in the local town to that ginger guy that won that gold medal.

:14:14.:14:20.

That is fantastic. I'm very happy to be remembered as that "ginger guy"

:14:21.:14:26.

it is great. Still to this day, a lot of people remember where they

:14:27.:14:30.

were on Super Saturday. Once you take off, if it is a good

:14:31.:14:35.

jump you feel it straight away. That is what the field eventers chase,

:14:36.:14:40.

that one feeling of: I have got it right. I had it in London. I had it

:14:41.:14:48.

at the worlds. Rutherford completes the Grand Slam

:14:49.:14:52.

Olympic, European, Commonwealth and now world champion.

:14:53.:14:56.

Last year I was not the longest jumper in the world but the most

:14:57.:15:02.

consistent. I take that in with confidence. Consistency wins medals.

:15:03.:15:08.

What it comes down to is doing it when it matters. That is what I am

:15:09.:15:14.

focussed on. It is what happens in the majors. I am an advocate of

:15:15.:15:21.

being happy away from the track and influencing being good at the track.

:15:22.:15:24.

To have what I have now, a lovely little buoy to go home to after

:15:25.:15:29.

sessions, and a very understanding partner in Susie who gets the fact I

:15:30.:15:35.

can be a selfish, angry so-and-so at times. Hello Milo. I have two

:15:36.:15:41.

separate parts, the part at the track which is serious, getting the

:15:42.:15:44.

work done and the part at home, which is different. I don't want to

:15:45.:15:50.

talk about work I want to have fun with my son. I do. And I'm in a

:15:51.:15:54.

better place than I have ever been now. I have a real reason to

:15:55.:15:59.

perform. Now I want want my son to look back in 10, 15 years' time, to

:16:00.:16:02.

say, yeah, my dad was pretty cool. Hoping for better things today, as

:16:03.:16:16.

you've heard, his third jump, he managed to make the qualifying mark

:16:17.:16:22.

for the final tonight. He says he has his run up fixed and knows what

:16:23.:16:27.

he is doing on the runway. All the while with this talk of gold

:16:28.:16:33.

medals on Super Saturday, Andy Murray is defending his men's

:16:34.:16:36.

singles final. He has come through two difficult

:16:37.:16:41.

matches and finds himself in the semifinal against Kei Nishikori of

:16:42.:16:46.

Japan, a former runner-up in the US open and former top five player.

:16:47.:16:52.

Andy Murray took the first set. It is two Games each.

:16:53.:18:09.

He looked a sitting duck there, Nishikori couldn't finish him off.

:18:10.:18:15.

It is red alert, just a red shirt. It should have been a better answer

:18:16.:18:27.

than that. This is a dreadful game from the

:18:28.:18:45.

Japanese, here are three break points for Murray.

:18:46.:19:01.

A crucial break for Andy Murray and he has done it again, 5-3 in front.

:19:02.:19:16.

Nishikori is serving at 3-5 behind. Bidding to stay in this Olympic

:19:17.:19:18.

semifinals Nishikori is coached by Michael

:19:19.:19:19.

Chang who is not here. I don't know if there is a problem

:19:20.:20:14.

with Nishikori, but it seems to be moving to his left. He is not able

:20:15.:20:20.

to get any power on his backhand. Any power at all.

:20:21.:20:28.

Andy Murray, such a keen watcher, will be all too aware of that.

:20:29.:20:42.

But when he is in the zone, he can hit it free and well.

:20:43.:21:41.

Well played, Nishikori, the pumps his fist. He is hanging on by a

:21:42.:21:45.

thread. -- he pumps. The crowd doing all they can, the

:21:46.:22:00.

Japanese. Not too many Brits here. The ones that are, they are quite

:22:01.:22:06.

despite the smooth course for Andy Murray it seems moving towards the

:22:07.:22:08.

final. Watching Nishikori, you are always

:22:09.:22:23.

watching for signs of wear and tear because injuries have let him down

:22:24.:22:26.

at crucial stages. I can't see anything obvious. Indeed, he played

:22:27.:22:36.

that game well. But Andy Murray has taken advantage, he has ignored the

:22:37.:22:43.

irritation of Carlos Fram Moss -- Ramos. He is a game away from his

:22:44.:22:50.

third Olympic medal, remembered the silver with Laura Robson in London.

:22:51.:22:56.

The gold medal beating Djokovic and Federer, career changing back in

:22:57.:23:01.

2012. Andy Murray serving for the match

:23:02.:23:18.

with new balls. These serve out White has been

:23:19.:23:32.

fruitful. That is as good a return as

:23:33.:23:38.

Nishikori has played in the match. A couple of quick steps, launching

:23:39.:24:20.

himself at that one. Murray keeping control of the match

:24:21.:24:54.

but in the end it was an unforced error from Nishikori.

:24:55.:25:40.

And it was a teaser. You would expect Murray to take care of that.

:25:41.:26:52.

He launches into that second serve of Murray.

:26:53.:27:01.

Where has this kind of form being prior to this game? In the previous

:27:02.:27:07.

four Games? It is very late but it is not too

:27:08.:27:09.

late. The rally of the match, perhaps, of

:27:10.:28:09.

the tournament. And look where Murray was to play the final shot.

:28:10.:28:14.

You how to feel for Nishikori. What a sensational rally that was.

:28:15.:28:20.

But Murray will not be denied. Hopefully we will see a replay of

:28:21.:28:37.

that later. It is match point number three.

:28:38.:29:10.

Nishikori, disappointed. But Murray, no blips today in this semifinal. He

:29:11.:29:37.

is into his second successive Olympics singles final. Magnificent.

:29:38.:29:45.

So, it will either be gold again or silver for Andy Murray.

:29:46.:29:48.

Didn't he play well? You can see not just the pleasure,

:29:49.:30:05.

but the relief. He sets himself such high standards. But he has made it

:30:06.:30:11.

through. It has been a wine the road. But it was pretty

:30:12.:30:14.

straightforward. Nishikori blew hot but not very

:30:15.:30:28.

often. Actually, lukewarm. But Andy Murray, whatever the situation, he

:30:29.:30:35.

stayed on top of it. This time there was distraction with

:30:36.:30:42.

the intervention of Carlos Ramos. Warning him twice, first for slow

:30:43.:30:48.

play, then for what he called unsportsman like conduct. When he

:30:49.:30:54.

said it was stupid umpiring, well, Murray forgot it. He kept his mind

:30:55.:30:57.

on the task at hand and completed it.

:30:58.:31:06.

Well, he is so gritty. He refuses to be beaten here in the singles

:31:07.:31:11.

environment. He is through to tomorrow's final where he plays

:31:12.:31:15.

either Rafael Nadal, the 2008 champion from Beijing or Juan Martin

:31:16.:31:19.

Del Potro, the man that knocked out Novak Djokovic earlier on in the

:31:20.:31:23.

Olympic competition so. That semi-final is getting under way in

:31:24.:31:26.

about 10 minute's time. But in the meantime we have a date in the

:31:27.:31:33.

boxing ring. Ireland's boxers have had a tremendous time four years ago

:31:34.:31:37.

taking four medals but not so good this time. They have lost Paddy

:31:38.:31:45.

Barnes early on and Brendan Irwin has gone out. Katie Taylor, the

:31:46.:31:51.

defending champion, what a fighter she is. Michael Conlan and today

:31:52.:32:00.

Stephen Donnelly. Fighting Mohammed Rabbi, the first from his nation to

:32:01.:32:03.

win an individual boxing world title. The winner of this one gets a

:32:04.:32:13.

guaranteed bronze. So in the opening round of the 69

:32:14.:32:18.

kilograms welterweight quarter-final.

:32:19.:32:22.

Boxers from Morocco and Ireland. The man wearing red. Helping himself to

:32:23.:32:28.

a cracking left hook is the reigning world champion and number two ranked

:32:29.:32:33.

boxer in the world. Mohammed Rabbi from Morocco.

:32:34.:32:38.

And his opponent, Stephen Donnelly, 27 years of age from Ireland.

:32:39.:32:43.

This, the biggest fight of his entire career as he looks to book

:32:44.:32:47.

himself a place on the Olympic medal podium. This is the prize that

:32:48.:32:55.

awaits this fixture of the bout. It does not get tougher for

:32:56.:33:00.

Donnelly. A world number one. Someone who is very experienced and

:33:01.:33:05.

talented indeed. What Donnelly has to do is keep the movement going.

:33:06.:33:14.

You stand toe-toe and then come in to the way he boxes. So you have to

:33:15.:33:21.

keep moving against this fella. He is a very accurate puncher is Rabbi.

:33:22.:33:26.

So Donnelly has to keep the movement going.

:33:27.:33:30.

A good bout. Stephen Donnelly has been impressive so far.

:33:31.:33:42.

Rabbi is really an accurate puncher. Lots of pop on the punches as well.

:33:43.:33:51.

They will have to produce is terrific display here to eliminate

:33:52.:33:57.

the opponent. A split decision in the second

:33:58.:34:05.

preliminary round. Rabbi had a good right hand to the body of Donnelly.

:34:06.:34:10.

Donnelly is a very good mover. One suspects that he will be a

:34:11.:34:15.

crucial asset. He is tagged by another left hand after a right hand

:34:16.:34:21.

to the body was not too far away. Rabb six a boxer, who is an expert

:34:22.:34:26.

at controlling the pace. He likes to box at a leisurely place. He has

:34:27.:34:32.

fast hands, accuracy and power. But the feet are fairly slow. That is

:34:33.:34:36.

why the movement is important for Donnelly. He doesn't want to be

:34:37.:34:42.

holding his feet. He must be hitting him, being a nuisance in front of

:34:43.:34:48.

his opponent. Rabbi punches and goes back. Has a dance in terms of

:34:49.:34:53.

finding the range. Every time he punches and moves back it creates

:34:54.:34:57.

the space and gap again. And away he goes again. But he boxes at his

:34:58.:35:05.

tempo. You must disrupt that rhythm. In the first contest, the good right

:35:06.:35:11.

hand there from Rabbi. He really is a hurtful puncher. But a great

:35:12.:35:16.

response from Rabbi in the third and the final round after losing the

:35:17.:35:22.

second round to Kenya's Akiri. There we saw a quickening of the tempo.

:35:23.:35:28.

After conceding the second round 2-1. He came out more quickly with

:35:29.:35:36.

more alack rutty than they he normally boxes.

:35:37.:35:40.

-- alacritty. There a Moroccan corner. Let's have

:35:41.:35:53.

a look at the scores. Yes, across the board from Rabii. So

:35:54.:35:58.

he started quicker. So Donnelly has to get back to the fast movement and

:35:59.:36:02.

make things awkward for his opponent.

:36:03.:36:14.

So moving to the second round of the 69 welterweight quarter-final. The

:36:15.:36:23.

man wearing red is on the receiving end of a cracking right. So rapid

:36:24.:36:29.

with the punches. Carries a poker face. It seldom

:36:30.:36:35.

changes, the visage of Rabii. But when he steps into range he

:36:36.:36:41.

possesses quick hands and is able to land clean singles. Pinning Donnelly

:36:42.:36:47.

to the corner. Donnelly intelligently trying to tie his man

:36:48.:36:52.

up to the space in the boxing ring. The referee intervenes. He has a

:36:53.:37:02.

fairly wide stance, has Rabii. That means that most boxers with a wide

:37:03.:37:06.

stance struggle to move at speed. If you watch his feet he is slow on the

:37:07.:37:12.

feet. Boxers, like I said before, he boxes at a leisurely pace. He likes

:37:13.:37:16.

the type of pace. The pace he dictates. But the strength is in the

:37:17.:37:20.

quality of the punching. Straight shots. He works well on the inside.

:37:21.:37:25.

Always calm. And that's why you must be busy in front of him. Making had

:37:26.:37:32.

uncomfortable. At this pace it suits Rabii. A nice shot downstairs.

:37:33.:37:39.

A wonderful right-hand from Rabii. Referring to the contest against the

:37:40.:37:49.

Kenyan boxer, the man from East Africa did that, he got into the

:37:50.:37:53.

chest of the markion and made it uncomfortable. Edging the round to

:37:54.:37:57.

two judges to one. Donnelly is a fantastic mover.

:37:58.:38:02.

He matches well. Side to side of either stance. But this is perhaps

:38:03.:38:07.

playing into the man in red's hands. He's got to do more Donnelly.

:38:08.:38:18.

We know what Rabi, is like, he should know that also. He does not

:38:19.:38:22.

lead off. He waits, you have to make him lead to get your feet into a

:38:23.:38:27.

position where you're a threat to him. Make his lead off, then go back

:38:28.:38:31.

to counter if that is the style you are going to do. If not it is in and

:38:32.:38:39.

out. Lots of fast punches. Make it awkward and disrupt his rhythm.

:38:40.:38:45.

Another hard single left hand to the body of Donnelly. A terrific

:38:46.:38:58.

atmosphere here. Rabii is so far on top of this round. So Donnelly still

:38:59.:39:03.

moving. Fluidity. But is there enough of it from him? A good left

:39:04.:39:11.

from Rabi, once again. A very good round of boxing.

:39:12.:39:17.

Donnelly pumps his right fist. But I suspect it is the man in red going

:39:18.:39:19.

to take that round. I think he is indicating he wants

:39:20.:39:39.

the boxer to be busy. He has to throw more shots, Donnelly. He is

:39:40.:39:44.

having a little bit of success. A lovely 1- 2 there. A couple of good

:39:45.:39:49.

exchanges but overall, let's have a look. No. He has not done enough to

:39:50.:39:54.

take it. It is good scoring. It's a tough job. But he must work harder.

:39:55.:40:01.

There were signs he was doing OK but more of it.

:40:02.:40:12.

. So into the second round. It is usually the third and the final

:40:13.:40:21.

round. That is a cracking right hand from Donnelly to begin the final

:40:22.:40:26.

session. He's behind on the cards.

:40:27.:40:32.

He needs a big third and final round as he staggered as the shot caught

:40:33.:40:35.

him somewhere around the side or the top of the head.

:40:36.:40:44.

Often you see Rabi, land shots and he takes a back ward step to regain

:40:45.:40:50.

composure and that's when you have to get on him. Go at him and put him

:40:51.:40:55.

under. A good right hand from Donnelly

:40:56.:41:00.

again. He is having success with single punches. Perhaps he needs

:41:01.:41:07.

greater volume and more intensity. I think Donnelly is doing well.

:41:08.:41:11.

Planning the attacks. The fast darting attacks. But we need more of

:41:12.:41:17.

them to be a little busier. A cracking left hook from Donnelly.

:41:18.:41:31.

That caused Rabii to readjust. Playing dangerously close together.

:41:32.:41:35.

Now a count was issued there. I thought it was a head clash. Indeed,

:41:36.:41:42.

Donnelly thought the same. He has been given a count.

:41:43.:41:47.

Now that's a point. Now this changes things dramatically. As it was

:41:48.:41:52.

indeed a head clash. The referee gave a count to allow Donnelly to

:41:53.:41:56.

recover and a point docked from the score of the world champion in this

:41:57.:42:00.

third and final round that is going to make things very dramatic indeed.

:42:01.:42:06.

A good left hand from Donnelly. We have said how well donely has been

:42:07.:42:09.

boxing. He could take this and turn it around if he is given it on the

:42:10.:42:16.

cards. If Rabii is judged the winner it will be a the-9 round. He just

:42:17.:42:22.

has to turn it around, as you said. If he wins the round that will be

:42:23.:42:31.

10-9 and the point is taken from Rabii, it's a 10-8. So Donnelly has

:42:32.:42:36.

to up the tempo to ensure he wins the round.

:42:37.:42:39.

He really has to go tor it. Donnelly has done better in the third round

:42:40.:42:44.

than in one and two. But it changes the complex of the things. Remaining

:42:45.:42:51.

patient. Remaining poised. The right hand from Rabii was wide of the

:42:52.:42:53.

mark. Is Donnelly boxing in a manner of a

:42:54.:42:59.

man who thinks he has won this in the closing ten seconds or saving

:43:00.:43:04.

himself for a final attack? There is a 10-second clapper. Right hand in.

:43:05.:43:09.

Down goes Donnelly. What is the referee saying here. He has given

:43:10.:43:13.

him a count. There was a shot that helped him get

:43:14.:43:18.

tangled up. Fortunate there for Donnelly.

:43:19.:43:21.

What a dramatic third and final round. Let's re-count the incidents

:43:22.:43:25.

that took place. Donnelly started the third round

:43:26.:43:29.

very well indeed after trailing on the cards after two completed rounds

:43:30.:43:33.

of boxing. Then there was a clash of heads.

:43:34.:43:38.

Donnelly's knees dipped, the referee intervenened and give Donnelly a

:43:39.:43:41.

count. Donnelly intimated there was a clash of heads that caused the

:43:42.:43:52.

referee to dip. The then the referee turned and warned Rabii.

:43:53.:43:57.

He turned and snagged his feet. There was another count down.

:43:58.:44:03.

If there is a win for Rabii it will be a 9-9 round that shot at the end

:44:04.:44:07.

may have been enough to win the round. Close. It will be 9-9, Rabii

:44:08.:44:13.

winning the round but the point taken off.

:44:14.:44:21.

It can pandemic it a 10-8 round. How are the judges going to sort this

:44:22.:44:27.

one out? My goodness. High drama in this third round of the 69 kilo welt

:44:28.:44:33.

we are weight final. The winner is through the medal podium here at

:44:34.:44:37.

2016. COMMENTATOR: Ladies and gentlemen,

:44:38.:44:51.

the winner by split decision... In the red corner Mohammed Rabii.

:44:52.:45:02.

And it's Rabii. A split decision over Ireland's Stephen Donnelly.

:45:03.:45:05.

Eliminated at the quarter-final stage. But he has nothing but

:45:06.:45:10.

admiration and support from the crowds, Stephen Donnelly. Rabiis, as

:45:11.:45:16.

is customary for him, a silent moment of thanks and acknowledgement

:45:17.:45:21.

for the wonderful support he has been received. Donnelly eliminated.

:45:22.:45:23.

The number one seed goes through. Steven Donnelly goes out at that

:45:24.:45:31.

stage. Joe Joyce, the Londoner, goes in the

:45:32.:45:45.

superheavyweight, trying to do and Anthony Joshua in London when he

:45:46.:45:46.

took gold. Who will play Andy Murray in

:45:47.:46:08.

tomorrow's men's singles final in the tennis? That is what we are

:46:09.:46:12.

about to find out. Either this gentleman, Brafferton adult of

:46:13.:46:17.

Spain, 2008 champion from Beijing and fresh from Olympic gold in the

:46:18.:46:23.

doubles with his childhood pal Mark Lopez.

:46:24.:46:28.

And one Martine del Potro, former US open champion, he has had wrist

:46:29.:46:35.

injuries which has hampered his progress and potential. Let us enjoy

:46:36.:46:40.

the opening exchanges. The winner will go through to face Andy Murray.

:46:41.:46:44.

Whoever it is, don't forget del Potro not out Novak Djokovic. It is

:46:45.:46:48.

sure to be a cracking final. The Wimbledon and Grand Slam

:46:49.:47:17.

champion, interesting to see her at the helm of the Davis cup team,

:47:18.:47:28.

looking after the men in Spain. Mark Lopez also in the stands. I

:47:29.:47:35.

hear he had a rather long night with rapper. -- Rafa.

:47:36.:48:04.

Perhaps not having played for a couple of months and coming here

:48:05.:48:12.

with low expectations might work in Nadal's favour, probably already

:48:13.:48:17.

has, with less pressure on him, people not talking about him at the

:48:18.:48:22.

start of the tournament, with more focus on Djokovic and Andy Murray.

:48:23.:48:52.

Perfect conditions today. Not too much of a breeze. Not too hot and

:48:53.:48:59.

humid which has been the case on other days here during the

:49:00.:49:00.

tournament. We will keep an eye on how he is

:49:01.:49:16.

hitting his forehand. He started out a little shaky against Bellucci. It

:49:17.:49:22.

was noticeable in each of the sets he got better, playing his best in

:49:23.:49:23.

the third and final set. Given he hasn't played for so long,

:49:24.:49:54.

he will have some niggles. Let us hope they are just some

:49:55.:50:03.

niggles. For the Dahl, not having had the match play, there is nothing

:50:04.:50:07.

like matchplay which puts those different stresses on the body.

:50:08.:50:12.

Yes, he has moved find in the duration of the doubles match. But

:50:13.:50:17.

after cooling down, it can be a bit different. We shall see how he has

:50:18.:50:19.

recovered. Those fans have their energy levels

:50:20.:51:02.

up. Big cheers for del Potro. Rafael Nadal won the toss and has

:51:03.:51:30.

elected to serve, to begin this men's semifinal at the Olympics in

:51:31.:51:39.

Rio. Billed as the battle of the

:51:40.:51:46.

heavyweights, a blockbuster. Between these two Grand Slam winners.

:51:47.:52:23.

It certainly does have the billing, this match, a very attractive

:52:24.:52:32.

proposition. 14 times Grand Slam singles champion, del Potro with

:52:33.:52:36.

only one but with so much unfulfilled potential, and such a

:52:37.:52:37.

huge game. Very crisp backhand from Nadal.

:52:38.:53:08.

The angle is there to swing the serve out White but for the most

:53:09.:53:12.

part he has been going down the middle. And into the body of the

:53:13.:53:13.

other player. Superb save from the dial looking to

:53:14.:53:56.

expose the movement of del Potro -- from Natal. Del Potro is a very tall

:53:57.:54:01.

man, he gets around the court very well for his height. Nadal will be

:54:02.:54:03.

trying to get him on the stretch. Great depths from del Potro. But it

:54:04.:54:39.

caught the line. Trying to change the pace.

:54:40.:55:12.

He got there in time, had to put on the brakes to pull up. Nice play

:55:13.:55:36.

from the Argentinian. Break point in the first game.

:55:37.:56:44.

A marathon rally. And a whopping forehand.

:56:45.:57:02.

Here is a good look at the big, flat forehand of del Potro. Hit with

:57:03.:57:13.

top-spin but when he flattens it out, look out, it really flies.

:57:14.:57:18.

Fantastic rally from both men but del Potro is the one who came

:57:19.:57:28.

through. That is a great sign for del Potro. Moving very well around

:57:29.:57:34.

the court. And waiting for his chance, not too

:57:35.:57:45.

early, sometimes players can feel like they have to do too much too

:57:46.:57:47.

early in a rally. It has been a common theme

:57:48.:58:46.

throughout the week, the serve has really been working for del Potro.

:58:47.:58:51.

Which has spelt danger for all of his opponents.

:58:52.:59:05.

Three massive serves to start his campaign. His fastest for the

:59:06.:59:23.

tournament has been 215. Making a statement.

:59:24.:59:41.

We have already seen one of the crushing forehands this is why there

:59:42.:59:48.

is so much excitement about the return of del Potro to the game.

:59:49.:59:56.

After having been sidelined for so long, over a period of many years,

:59:57.:00:00.

on again, off again. That was good hitting on the

:00:01.:00:45.

forehand from Nadal, noticeably better than against Bellucci, really

:00:46.:00:46.

going through the forehand. There have been issues with the left

:00:47.:00:58.

wrist. Much more so with del Potro. In the last 18 months he has made a

:00:59.:01:49.

concerted effort to work more on the backhand from the baseline.

:01:50.:01:53.

When he gets over the top of that, so beautifully, he hits right

:01:54.:01:57.

through and follows through with the racket to create that angle.

:01:58.:02:59.

For Nadal, a great forehand. He's on the board.

:03:00.:04:06.

Before we get under way here, let me update you quickly in the golf.

:04:07.:04:17.

Justin Rose made a significant move today behind four shots off the

:04:18.:04:28.

leader, Marcus Fraser. This is him, he dives down there, 2-under for the

:04:29.:04:33.

round. And good stuff to follow for Justin.

:04:34.:04:42.

A former Open champion. And Justin consistently enthused by

:04:43.:04:45.

the golf and its return to the Olympics. This is for another eagle

:04:46.:04:49.

chance. And straight in. So four shots

:04:50.:04:54.

better already than at the start of the day. He has take an 1- shot lead

:04:55.:05:05.

over the field, 10-under par. Marcus Fraser on 9 and Padraig

:05:06.:05:13.

Harrington within five shots at 5-under and Danny will yet on 7. --

:05:14.:05:24.

Danny Willett on 7. All happening in the golf. Now back

:05:25.:05:31.

to the semi-final of the tennis. Now with Nadal having the efforts of

:05:32.:05:37.

playing the singles to get through to the semi-final stage and the

:05:38.:05:40.

doubles final. The emotions of winning the gold medal in the

:05:41.:05:44.

doubles. I'm wonderering how he would shape up. But he has come out

:05:45.:05:49.

with the feet moving well. The racket going through the shots. Even

:05:50.:05:55.

though he was broken early, still looking impressive with the way he

:05:56.:06:06.

is playing. When he held serve, at Juan Martin

:06:07.:06:11.

Del Potro it was firingway. The balls are not necessarily short.

:06:12.:06:18.

He is grunting he is really in the match zone.

:06:19.:07:00.

Great approach. Wonderful point all-round. Good

:07:01.:07:14.

defence from Nadal. Staving off the huge forehands from Del Potro.

:07:15.:07:19.

Credit to Del Potro, he's not rushing to finish the point off too

:07:20.:07:21.

quickly. He gets there in the end. One of the sweetest shots in the

:07:22.:07:47.

game. A thing of beauty to watch, that forehand. This one here,

:07:48.:07:55.

Flatley through again. A little over the top at the end. It's a high-risk

:07:56.:08:03.

shot when he does flatten it out. His percentages have been very good

:08:04.:08:05.

this Olympic tournament. He stopped immediately, Del Potro is

:08:06.:08:26.

challenging. The ball was called in.

:08:27.:08:36.

He got the message, it was in. Mr Del Potro has two challenges

:08:37.:08:50.

remaining. So, a huge atmosphere.

:08:51.:09:43.

Plenty of Argentines making their presence felt. A lot of Spaniards

:09:44.:09:49.

have made the trip. It's a Argentines making most of the

:09:50.:09:51.

noise at the moment. A super day. The temperature is

:09:52.:10:07.

about 23 Celsius. A very light breeze. Quite humid. But ideal

:10:08.:10:10.

tennis conditions. They may have been worried that

:10:11.:10:35.

Nadal would have made a slow start after all of the emotion of winning

:10:36.:10:42.

with his friend, Mark Lopez, in the doubles yesterday. It's been a

:10:43.:10:48.

brilliant start. Del Potro though has been the

:10:49.:10:52.

governor. Having a look to see how wide was

:10:53.:10:54.

the serve. Getting the angles moving well.

:10:55.:11:27.

There's a lot to be encouraged for the Spanish supporters here.

:11:28.:11:37.

Even though the scoreline at the moment is against them.

:11:38.:11:53.

Nothing wrong with his play at all. And the Spanish supporters know that

:11:54.:12:04.

even though this is noisy, even though the Argentines are making the

:12:05.:12:12.

bulk of the noise, their man came back against Bellucci from Brazil in

:12:13.:12:23.

the quarter-final. Taking that from a set down... . A lot of the

:12:24.:12:30.

Brazilians taking Rafa's side now. Should we say there is a healthy

:12:31.:12:35.

rivalry between Brazil and Argentina?! So a lot of them are

:12:36.:12:37.

honourary Spaniards. Very much a carnival atmosphere

:12:38.:12:57.

here. Today the Centre Court at this Olympic Tennis Centre virtually sold

:12:58.:13:03.

out today. That's good to see. It's a the women's final coming up

:13:04.:13:07.

next. Monica Puig against Angelique Kerber but for a lot of the

:13:08.:13:11.

spectators here, this is the feature match. They have seen Andy Murray

:13:12.:13:17.

coming through in a slightly disappointing performance from Kei

:13:18.:13:20.

Nishikori. Andy Murray looking very good. Now they have this

:13:21.:13:28.

competition. So it is still Del Potro by a break,

:13:29.:13:31.

3-2. He is going to challenge.

:13:32.:14:26.

Close enough to challenge. The umpire having quite a task to

:14:27.:15:01.

keep this crowd under control. Mr Del Potro has one challenge

:15:02.:15:03.

remaining. It is ideal for Nadal, the court is

:15:04.:15:50.

slow, double checks and gets up high. So it plays very much like a

:15:51.:16:00.

clay court. It was a little foolhardy for del

:16:01.:16:29.

Potro to make the move, and Nadal really making him play. -- Making

:16:30.:16:31.

him pay. Now it is the Spaniard and zillions

:16:32.:17:30.

in full flight. His form has been a revelation.

:17:31.:17:37.

Remember, he hadn't played since Roland Garros where he withdrew in

:17:38.:17:43.

the third round match. He didn't play at Wimbledon. We

:17:44.:17:47.

weren't sure he was going to come here.

:17:48.:17:55.

Was it a risk? I bet he's glad he made it, already a gold medallist

again with his best friend Lopez. Now, back level in the semifinal

:18:02.:18:03.

against del Potro. Again, Rafer bossing the point.

:18:04.:19:26.

Using that huge forehand which is working a treat.

:19:27.:20:29.

Ever since he was broken in the opening game, Nadal has seemed to

:20:30.:20:41.

have the edge in this match. He is going to hit the front for the first

:20:42.:20:42.

time. Not quite. He made the move and it

:20:43.:21:17.

looked on for del Potro. You can see Rafa continuing to serve

:21:18.:21:21.

from a star is pretty near the side line.

:21:22.:21:27.

It seems del Potro is bathed in sweat, it is very humid.

:21:28.:21:33.

Although the temperature is not too alarming.

:21:34.:22:01.

Two guys who share problems with their wrist. Rafa has had all sorts

:22:02.:22:20.

of problems but looks to be bouncing back. Winning in Monte Carlo.

:22:21.:22:28.

Beating Andy Murray in the semifinal. If he wins this, he will

:22:29.:22:32.

face him tomorrow. Wawrinka in the quarters, Dominic

:22:33.:22:38.

Thiem, and then he went to Barcelona, winning in that one.

:22:39.:22:48.

Beating Kei Nishikori there. Semifinalist in Madrid.

:22:49.:22:52.

Quarterfinalist in Rome. Then he had to withdraw from Roland Garros and

:22:53.:22:57.

he has been missing ever since. Wouldn't it be strange, because he

:22:58.:23:06.

and Andy were practising together in Rafa's tennis Academy in Majorca a

:23:07.:23:08.

few weeks before this tournament began. And they could beat in the

:23:09.:23:16.

gold medal match tomorrow. -- they could meet.

:23:17.:23:25.

Three successive games now for the Spaniard.

:23:26.:24:02.

UMPIRE: Ladies and gentlemen, this is a tennis event, please respect

:24:03.:24:06.

both players. Thank you.

:24:07.:24:11.

Yes, it is lively, but it has to be a little more controlled.

:24:12.:24:28.

Does anyone hit it harder in the history of tennis?

:24:29.:25:53.

I can't imagine Rafa needed any lifting after the gold medal in the

:25:54.:26:38.

doubles. He was so emotional. He will be emotionally spent. But this

:26:39.:26:42.

atmosphere has got him going very quickly.

:26:43.:27:59.

It just climbed a little on del Potro.

:28:00.:28:10.

It is all about confidence with Nadal. Often, when things weren't

:28:11.:28:15.

going right, way back, from injury, he would talk about confidence in

:28:16.:28:21.

striking the ball, not necessarily winning the ball, -- the match, but

:28:22.:28:27.

confidence in his ability. He seems to be getting that this week.

:28:28.:28:37.

Nadal moves to within one game of this opening set.

:28:38.:28:47.

And so much of that ball striking confidence comes from confidence in

:28:48.:28:56.

the movement. He was making his way back after the knee problems, then

:28:57.:29:01.

the rest, it took time, and it was so frustrating. He was being beaten

:29:02.:29:07.

by people who would normally be privileged to share a court with

:29:08.:29:12.

him. She is certainly soaking up the

:29:13.:29:13.

atmosphere. So, after the rain from the last

:29:14.:29:30.

couple of days, it is a sunshine atmosphere with tennis to match.

:29:31.:29:43.

Del Potro, through after that extraordinary win in the first round

:29:44.:29:48.

against Novak Djokovic. Since then, he dropped a set against his

:29:49.:29:55.

Portuguese opponent, and also against Daniel, the Japanese player

:29:56.:30:03.

who put out Kyle Edmond, winning easily in the end, 6-1, 6-2.

:30:04.:30:28.

Beautiful. Well waited in both senses of the

:30:29.:31:04.

word. Crushing power.

:31:05.:31:40.

Hardly moving before the ball was past him.

:31:41.:32:24.

Using all of his 6ft 6 to great effect.

:32:25.:32:28.

Five aces now for Del Potro. Jumping a little short of Rafa,

:32:29.:33:11.

taking full advantage. It's truly uplifting to see him

:33:12.:33:15.

playing, moving, striking the ball so well.

:33:16.:33:48.

So it is noisy, it is combative, the support but it's great fun too.

:33:49.:34:37.

The sweat is profuse from Nadal. He is having to work very hard. It is

:34:38.:34:41.

very humid. So tough to deal with. You can hear

:34:42.:36:03.

the effort that Nadal is putting in. His top spin exploding off the

:36:04.:36:05.

court. Oh! Divine! Del Potro count have

:36:06.:37:21.

played that a lot better. But he was comfortably second best. Again,

:37:22.:37:24.

Nadal, threading the needle. Del Potro not having much Ann

:37:25.:38:26.

answer. -- an answer.

:38:27.:38:47.

It's not just the forehand of Del Potro that Rafa has to watch.

:38:48.:38:58.
