A decade ago, four-time Queens champion Andy Murray played Tim

:00:43.:00:48.

Henman in Bangkok. It was the last time he faced a fellow countrymen in

:00:49.:00:54.

a tour event until this week. Yesterday he beats capitulate bed

:00:55.:01:03.

and -- Bedene get creamed's club. Today he takes on car Edmund on a

:01:04.:01:08.

second Battle of Britain in two days, with the semifinal place up

:01:09.:01:15.

for grabs. Who would believe it? Ten years for one and two have come

:01:16.:01:18.

along back-to-back. Remind you of anything? We couldn't resist. There

:01:19.:01:25.

is some very confused people waiting for the 211 to Waterloo this

:01:26.:01:30.

morning. It has been back-to-back matches against Brits from RA,

:01:31.:01:33.

proving the state of British tennis is much healthier than in years gone

:01:34.:01:38.

by. The weather this week is making us all feel very poorly and I'm

:01:39.:01:41.

afraid it's not a great forecast today. Good afternoon. We've had

:01:42.:01:46.

plenty of rain here this week but nothing prepared us for what

:01:47.:01:50.

happened yesterday evening. There was thunder, lightning, flashlights,

:01:51.:01:54.

everyone running for cover. Hopefully no more of that today. The

:01:55.:01:58.

good news is the son is out and played under way the men's

:01:59.:02:03.

quarterfinals are on today. Four matches to look forward to. Steve

:02:04.:02:07.

Johnson putter Richard Gasquet is facing Marin Cilic, former champion.

:02:08.:02:13.

Edmund has made so many improvements over the past 12 months. Milos

:02:14.:02:21.

Raonic, the A 's machine and Gillies Miller, who take ten match points

:02:22.:02:27.

yesterday faces Bernard Tomic, -year-old Australian. Whilst look

:02:28.:02:33.

forward to and were drawn to Murray against Edmund because his mental

:02:34.:02:38.

and the man he has admired growing up, Cal Edmund, you will face him.

:02:39.:02:43.

How lucky is Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans and James Ward and everyone

:02:44.:02:46.

else to have someone like Andy Murray to look up to? At this point,

:02:47.:02:52.

he's single-mindedly trying to go after Novak Djokovic. Don't worry

:02:53.:02:56.

about this drop, I think drug which is in his mind the entire time. -- I

:02:57.:03:02.

think Djokovic. Andy Murray is making new standards of himself. The

:03:03.:03:06.

10th man to be in all four Grand Slams. How has someone to look up to

:03:07.:03:10.

and I look up to Andy Murray as well. We get accused of being too

:03:11.:03:14.

much like a fan but having watched his progress from being a kid here

:03:15.:03:19.

to watching him just do everything in trying to be the best he can be.

:03:20.:03:24.

I found his story quite inspirational. It is something to be

:03:25.:03:27.

admired and that is rubbing off on Kyle. He says he goes to Miami and

:03:28.:03:32.

not poorly hits with Andy, Andy Letson stay in his apartment, they

:03:33.:03:36.

go to basketball games together. That is how you learn because you

:03:37.:03:39.

see how professional and his dedication and commitment and

:03:40.:03:44.

discipline. Did you have somebody like that who took you under their

:03:45.:03:51.

wing? No. Not really. But the result was he rose. Billie Jean King was my

:03:52.:03:57.

hero but she was in a different stratosphere. Fantastic. You just

:03:58.:04:01.

watch how they operate and go about their things and to listen to what

:04:02.:04:05.

Andy has to say about tennis and how he sees an opponent and sizes up the

:04:06.:04:09.

situation on court it must be invaluable. One thing about Kyle

:04:10.:04:14.

Edmund, watch out if he is tired on the tennis court today. I don't

:04:15.:04:17.

think so but he had a fridge delivered to his new flat this

:04:18.:04:20.

morning and they knocked on the door at 6:30am. No! He got a text to say

:04:21.:04:27.

it was going to be 7am and detained -- turned up early. The plumber is

:04:28.:04:33.

coming later. All of these lovely domestic things come his 21 years

:04:34.:04:37.

old and setting up his flat. He had as at this phase in his life that is

:04:38.:04:42.

probably quite special for him and have a crack it Andy Murray is

:04:43.:04:45.

fantastic. You should allow himself the possibility of winning this but

:04:46.:04:49.

tennis white liberal think anyone can see that happening. Remember

:04:50.:04:54.

what he did against David Goffin in the Davis Cup. It was like a racket

:04:55.:04:59.

wielding Superman. And a break-up in the third. And Kyle is built, make

:05:00.:05:04.

no mistake. He has done the physical work and continues doing that. He

:05:05.:05:08.

must add to his defence around the court and movement but sheer

:05:09.:05:12.

physical power, Kyle is as good as anyone in this draw. He is a strong

:05:13.:05:16.

lad at 21 and will relish the opportunity and if he sees a

:05:17.:05:20.

forehand, just go for it. Nothing to lose, play hard. If he served at

:05:21.:05:27.

75%, it would get close in one or two sets. You have to see Andy

:05:28.:05:31.

coming through it. It will be interesting is the second match. We

:05:32.:05:34.

will head out live in a moment. Earlier today there was a's silence

:05:35.:05:40.

held here to reflect on the shocking events yesterday in West Yorkshire

:05:41.:05:43.

that led to the tragic death of MP and mother of two, Jo Cox.

:05:44.:06:25.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen. Remembering Jo Cox, who died

:06:26.:06:36.

yesterday. That minute's silence was held just before the first of

:06:37.:06:40.

today's quarterfinals, the match on Court just now, Steve Johnson, the

:06:41.:06:45.

American, has taken the opening set and tie-break seven points to three

:06:46.:06:49.

but former champion, Marin Cilic, has come back in the second set, and

:06:50.:06:53.

here's 3-1 up with a break serve. Let join John Lloyd and Andrew

:06:54.:06:57.

Cotter. COMMENTATOR:

:06:58.:07:00.

A very different Marin Cilic at the start of the second set.

:07:01.:07:11.

Look at those two. Old war stories. What percentage by getting from your

:07:12.:07:19.

player? Honouring the four-time winners,

:07:20.:07:42.

some of them are here today, Roy Emerson is here. McEnroe is among

:07:43.:07:48.

those. That will do. An illustrious audience watching on

:07:49.:08:43.

today as Marin Cilic maintains the one break advantage in the second

:08:44.:08:48.

set. Good to see Roy Emerson up there. McEnroe, Becker, Roy Emerson

:08:49.:08:57.

just before the Open here that one for times and then you have Boris

:08:58.:09:05.

and Andy Roddick. Andy Murray himself, of course, going from five

:09:06.:09:11.

this year. It has always been a great tournament. Look at that list

:09:12.:09:16.

of winners. Lleyton Hewitt loved it here, he will be with the BBC at

:09:17.:09:17.

Wimbledon. He is here today. He's just saying to Boris I've

:09:18.:09:32.

played three and a half hours the other day with Raonic and that is

:09:33.:09:36.

what has happened. Not used to doing that.

:09:37.:09:48.

Becker, of course, you won his first 17 and went on shortly after to win

:09:49.:09:53.

Wimbledon. There we go, I obviously recognise

:09:54.:10:05.

him now, the Young speaking to Chris commode, the Chief Executive of the

:10:06.:10:09.

Apec -- ATP Tour. And Will Young makes good music.

:10:10.:11:14.

A half-hearted attempt to get overmanned Cilic -- over mountain

:11:15.:11:23.

Cilic. He has not been too successful with

:11:24.:12:01.

his challenges, Steve Johnson. I think even he accepts that this one

:12:02.:12:08.

might not go his way. Amedy Arnie point everyone to the big screen.

:12:09.:12:12.

Call stands. Steve Johnson is quick. Like he was

:12:13.:12:56.

out of that point. Very quick steps to the forehand side. Cotton himself

:12:57.:12:57.

out of trouble. -- got himself. Altogether remains just one break

:12:58.:13:06.

behind. It really has been most impressive,

:13:07.:13:21.

Steve Johnson, at these championships so far. Seeing of

:13:22.:13:26.

Michelle Gasquet and then add a remote real. There is great Boynton,

:13:27.:13:28.

his coach. -- Craig Boynton. Again, Steve Johnson just working

:13:29.:13:54.

the slice. Those two so often. Beautiful. He proves too good

:13:55.:14:26.

against Johnson. This deal of Cilic. A lot of bite on that slice and it

:14:27.:14:31.

stays low. Cilic did well to get the racket underneath the ball. That

:14:32.:14:36.

whips right across his shoulder there.

:14:37.:15:17.

That is a good server, the wide forehand but it must be wider than

:15:18.:15:31.

that. That is more likely Cilic we know.

:15:32.:15:48.

5-2 now. He did think after losing the first

:15:49.:16:04.

set in the tie-break that he might come roaring back, and so it has

:16:05.:16:11.

proved. Marin Cilic, world number of the Cuban -- 13. Used to work with

:16:12.:16:19.

Bob Brett, a great course before super coaches came along and took

:16:20.:16:25.

all of the plum jobs. Bob Brett had coached Ivanisevic. A great talents

:16:26.:16:33.

to work with. I think he also worked with a Young John Morley. Yes, he

:16:34.:16:42.

upgraded after that. Again, I US Open winner from a few years ago.

:16:43.:16:47.

Quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in the last two years.

:16:48.:16:54.

The time of year that he loves heading to grass and beyond that

:16:55.:16:58.

come to the US Open. As we have mentioned, very fond of

:16:59.:17:04.

this tournament as well. So, to Steve Johnson, trying to

:17:05.:17:18.

remain in this second set. He did not do enough on the return

:17:19.:18:16.

but at least he is figuring out the body serve and make that return

:18:17.:18:19.

back, nice, solid volley from Steve Johnson. Pretty comfortable. Little

:18:20.:18:30.

mutterings of appreciation again from Steve Johnson, the return of

:18:31.:18:39.

Cilic. Has certainly got better than in the first set. Cilic was really

:18:40.:18:40.

struggling then. Johnson moves along, it was just

:18:41.:18:46.

that one blip earlier in the set. Cilic now with a chance to level

:18:47.:19:04.

things up. This is the first of the quarterfinals.

:19:05.:19:46.

That has got going. I can't believe it. -- to go in. Steve Johnson

:19:47.:19:59.

nearly off court. That must be the highest lob.

:20:00.:20:26.

The forehand has been good in this set. Let him down in the

:20:27.:20:32.

tie-breaker, which he ultimately lost. But spot on.

:20:33.:20:48.

He takes it as moves briskly and impressively through the second set,

:20:49.:21:00.

Marin Cilic, and level things up. I say level things up, but this, all

:21:01.:21:04.

the momentum is now with Marin Cilic, a far stronger player. We

:21:05.:21:12.

know how things can change, because Steve Johnson looked strong after

:21:13.:21:16.

the first set and off he went for a bathroom break, Cilic gave himself

:21:17.:21:20.

talking to and it was so different. He looks conservative in the first

:21:21.:21:24.

set, Cilic, like he wasn't confident of himself, he wasn't returning

:21:25.:21:30.

well, Mr couple of forehands in the tie-breaker and was not quite there.

:21:31.:21:34.

Did not play badly, but had not raised his game like you would

:21:35.:21:38.

expect a player of his class to do, but when the match got close since

:21:39.:21:44.

that second set started he has gone up a level come as sharper and more

:21:45.:21:50.

aggressive. Seeing the ball earlier and has been much more impressive.

:21:51.:21:53.

Let's look at Cilic and where he has put his serves. The yellow balls are

:21:54.:22:00.

the first serve, the blue second serve. He gets plenty of all width

:22:01.:22:06.

on it. A few in the middle as well. It is a good variation and he is at

:22:07.:22:12.

one out to the backhand side that we see, he uses the power serve that

:22:13.:22:17.

time and the amazing kick that he has where he jumps up it up so high,

:22:18.:22:22.

not as high on the grass as other services but on the hard courts when

:22:23.:22:26.

he won the US Open that is a particularly effective serve because

:22:27.:22:29.

it is not easy to get on top of the ball and directed back into court

:22:30.:22:32.

without giving yourself too much space to cover on the next shot. He

:22:33.:22:37.

uses that very well. It is not always about pace, it is placement.

:22:38.:22:42.

It is not a monster servers, it is big enough but from a guy his size

:22:43.:22:46.

you might think he has a sizzler that gets over 130. It is a

:22:47.:22:53.

placement serve but very good. The second serve is extremely good, and

:22:54.:22:56.

again, you don't always measure serves on the peas of the first

:22:57.:23:00.

serve, it is the combination of the first and second and in that regard

:23:01.:23:09.

he is one of the best stock -- of the best. Johnson just checking the

:23:10.:23:16.

sun, starting his third set. That might have taken out will Young.

:23:17.:24:03.

A lot of passions in this match when Johnson's serve gets returned it

:24:04.:24:13.

comes down to Cilic hitting the forehand and Johnson trying to work

:24:14.:24:17.

that slice and defend and occasionally attack and come in

:24:18.:24:26.

behind it. Trying to avoid what feels him at the start of the second

:24:27.:24:32.

set, Steve Johnson. He has broken early on.

:24:33.:24:43.

Good ball. That is class. To be able to feel that drop shot off forehand

:24:44.:24:57.

with that much pace. That is fantastic, one of the best we will

:24:58.:25:06.

see in this entire week. It is a nice way to hold serve. What a shock

:25:07.:25:16.

that was. Just for a moment in that service you feared for him.

:25:17.:25:25.

Responded very well. But this shot here, most players would have been

:25:26.:25:31.

happy to have hit that back into court, but he could see it early

:25:32.:25:35.

enough and somehow had the confidence to feel the ball for a

:25:36.:25:38.

drop shot and take the pace of a ball that was coming at him with an

:25:39.:25:42.

immense pace and drop it just over the net. It was fantastic. Not the

:25:43.:25:50.

sort of shot you work on in practice either.

:25:51.:26:05.

I challenge, I think, from Steve Johnson.

:26:06.:26:23.

Rights to challenge. That is wide. We are all having a good time. It

:26:24.:26:33.

just touched the line. That is too he has got wrong.

:26:34.:26:41.

It is all happening now. Another one coming in.

:26:42.:26:52.

He is not giving his opinion on this one. Call stands.

:26:53.:27:25.

He did that purposely, brought Cilic in with the short backhand.

:27:26.:27:34.

He made that dramatic. We know this is a big point, the umpire just

:27:35.:27:40.

confirmed that. Mr Cilic has two challenges

:27:41.:28:17.

remaining. This is more likely Steve Johnson we saw in the first set,

:28:18.:28:22.

very impressive and Marin Cilic is letting himself slip away for a

:28:23.:28:26.

moment. Three break points for the American.

:28:27.:28:45.

Chased this one down so hard. Almost away.

:28:46.:29:07.

One of the three remains for Johnson.

:29:08.:29:23.

Deuce. So aggressive on these break points, Cilic.

:29:24.:30:14.

What an answer that is from Marin Cilic, 0- 40 in the deciding set.

:30:15.:30:27.

Reels off the next five points. Yes, that was nothing to do with Steve

:30:28.:30:32.

Johnson, he couldn't do anything about that, it was pinpoint service

:30:33.:30:36.

accuracy. Five superb points from Cilic.

:30:37.:32:09.

That is great play. Great service game from Steve Johnson, keeps his

:32:10.:32:19.

nose just in front in this deciding set. All to play for.

:32:20.:32:25.

I did think once Cilic had worked so hard to hold his own serve, he might

:32:26.:32:34.

be have a real go at Johnson's serve. But Johnson just not giving

:32:35.:32:40.

him a chance. No, he started off this set really well, Johnson. Got

:32:41.:32:45.

batted around a bit towards the end of the second set, but came out here

:32:46.:32:50.

and re-established himself. Add that 0- 40 chance, and Cilic reeled off

:32:51.:32:56.

five quick points. But one set, anything could happen on a grass

:32:57.:33:01.

court now. Johnson looks pretty confident. Looking to go further

:33:02.:33:06.

than he has before in an ATP Tour event. In terms of the majors, Steve

:33:07.:33:12.

Johnson's breakthrough within 2012 at the US Open when you reached the

:33:13.:33:16.

third round. He lost to Richard Gasquet. He has also been to the

:33:17.:33:20.

third round at the Australian Open three times. But that is just about

:33:21.:33:27.

his level. But you can see he could move beyond that. I think the big

:33:28.:33:32.

result was his first round here, where he beat Richard Gasquet. That

:33:33.:33:36.

is the first top ten player he has beaten in his career.

:33:37.:33:43.

Psychologically that would be a nice one to remove, having had it weighed

:33:44.:33:47.

on his mind. Now he will believe he can go up against the top guys and

:33:48.:33:50.

go through. That meant a big difference to him. Just like him to

:33:51.:33:57.

come over his backhand a bit more. A good slice, but it puts you in a

:33:58.:34:00.

defensive position a bit too many times.

:34:01.:34:09.

Too far away from the ball, that one, got down so low.

:34:10.:35:06.

Once again the number five seed is going to have to find something.

:35:07.:35:18.

Staring down some rate points and now 0- 30. -- break points.

:35:19.:35:40.

Too accurate and powerful from the Croatian.

:35:41.:36:09.

And again, success in that corner for Cilic.

:36:10.:36:46.

Again, he has had some scares in this serve. 0- 40 down in his

:36:47.:37:17.

previous service game and 0- 30 down in this one. I did say Steve Johnson

:37:18.:37:23.

was looking to reach his first semifinal. He did reach the

:37:24.:37:29.

semifinal in Valencia, where he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut. This his

:37:30.:37:33.

first appearance at Queen's and enjoying the experience. 2-1, the

:37:34.:37:35.

decider. Pinpoint accuracy. Big forehand. Hit

:37:36.:37:51.

that one, looks like it was going to go wide, but a lot of width, 90

:37:52.:37:58.

miles an hour. You could see the extreme spin.

:37:59.:38:38.

Again, has to be so accurate to work the drop shot against Johnson, but

:38:39.:38:53.

it wasn't there. He's so quick. If it had been on a hard court and it

:38:54.:38:57.

had bounced up a little higher, would have got it. He made it, but

:38:58.:39:03.

it was too low. A good effort to even get his racket to the ball.

:39:04.:39:19.

Just wide, and again Johnson holds fairly comfortably. Still worrying

:39:20.:39:52.

times for the number five seed. Marin Cilic on serve in this

:39:53.:39:59.

deciding set. SUE BARKER: The crowd enjoying the quality of tennis on

:40:00.:40:02.

display in this quarter final and no doubt looking forward to the next

:40:03.:40:07.

quarterfinal as well, as Andy Murray takes on Kyle Edmund. Andy and Kyle

:40:08.:40:11.

were both out practising today. Andrew Castle is with me. He has the

:40:12.:40:16.

practice in and has been looking good in both his opening matches,

:40:17.:40:20.

hasn't he? He looks like he's doing just enough to get through. This has

:40:21.:40:25.

been the big story this week. I have really felt Andy has been playing

:40:26.:40:31.

knowing Ivan Lendl is over there. Kyle, probably not the biggest match

:40:32.:40:36.

of his career, but his biggest one. The Davis Cup final debut last year

:40:37.:40:41.

was enormous, but another good step for him today. It doesn't matter it

:40:42.:40:45.

was a walkover last time, this time nothing to lose against Andy Murray

:40:46.:40:49.

and he will go for it. When I say nothing to lose, it doesn't mean he

:40:50.:40:53.

won't care, but go ahead and throw the firepower. Practising his serve,

:40:54.:40:57.

that will be key, winning his service games? If he doesn't get

:40:58.:41:03.

points on his serve, he has no chance of winning. He only has two

:41:04.:41:06.

or 3% chance of winning anyway. But it will be good to watch his

:41:07.:41:11.

progress. Good forehand and backhand as well. We saw some rather dark

:41:12.:41:14.

clouds, I am pleased to say they have gone past. Let's go back and

:41:15.:41:20.

continue to enjoy this first quarterfinal. COMMENTATOR: The sun

:41:21.:41:24.

is shining down. On this famous old court. It has seen some champions,

:41:25.:41:33.

and again, four-time winners, a few of them are around, Boris Becker,

:41:34.:41:40.

Lleyton Hewitt. Marin Cilic has won it once. Still in a bit of trouble.

:41:41.:43:00.

Frustration, he knew he was well in that rally.

:43:01.:43:28.

It was a great get, the first one, but just lost his connection on the

:43:29.:43:38.

way back in. Don't you love it when players fling themselves? Not giving

:43:39.:43:43.

this one up. A full-length dive there.

:43:44.:44:38.

An easier service game for Marin Cilic.

:44:39.:44:48.

Getting towards the business end of the set and match. This is where you

:44:49.:44:57.

expected Cilic to have the ability to up his game a little bit.

:44:58.:45:11.

Wide from Cilic. A lovely touch again from Steve Johnson. It really

:45:12.:45:59.

is, another gorgeous shot. The last one, when a forehand came at him he

:46:00.:46:02.

hit a forehand drop shot and this time a backhand drop shot. And sure

:46:03.:46:09.

enough, it was successful. A superb game he is playing here.

:46:10.:46:14.

Again, that variation with the Serbs. -- serves.

:46:15.:46:25.

At that stage, the business end of things, this is when the tension

:46:26.:46:31.

does creep in, but no sign of it from Johnson. He handcuffed Cilic

:46:32.:46:40.

with the serves, so accurate, didn't give Cilic a chance to get into the

:46:41.:46:45.

game. A very good service game. He looks so confident. I think that win

:46:46.:46:49.

against Richard Gasquet in the first round, we go back to his college

:46:50.:46:57.

career, which was in which he was the champion for two years, he had

:46:58.:47:01.

an astounding record of winning 72 matches in a row. That is pretty

:47:02.:47:04.

remarkable, there are some pretty good players at college level. They

:47:05.:47:12.

play a no ad system as well, which makes it risky. Matches day after

:47:13.:47:18.

day, to win 72 matches in a row and win two titles in a row, that is

:47:19.:47:22.

pretty special. A good match player under pressure. And again, off the

:47:23.:47:27.

two, perhaps look slightly more comfortable at the moment. We did

:47:28.:47:31.

think when we saw that second set and Cilic moving through it so well,

:47:32.:47:34.

maybe Johnson's days were numbered, but again the ebb and flow of the

:47:35.:47:41.

tennis match, the force was with Johnson in the first set and seems

:47:42.:47:46.

to be with him again. Still with serve, but Cilic always chasing

:47:47.:47:52.

things slightly, serving second in this Teesside inset. Seats are

:47:53.:47:55.

filling up in the sunshine here. Andy Murray against Kyle Edmund to

:47:56.:48:01.

come. They will play the winner of this match.

:48:02.:48:40.

Again, the noise of appreciation from Steve Johnson.

:48:41.:48:46.

That would have been outrageous, if he'd made that shot.

:48:47.:49:29.

Again, solid from Cilic. Pick a winner. Match now on a knife edge,

:49:30.:49:37.

as we get to 4-4 in the decider. Not easy serving from this end, with

:49:38.:49:51.

the sun. Late, late call and Cilic

:49:52.:50:32.

immediately challenged. The ball is called out.

:50:33.:50:40.

No umpire enjoys it as much as he does.

:50:41.:50:45.

It was a good call eventually, though. The call stands.

:50:46.:51:10.

Touch of the net from Steve Johnson. Rarely seen. The umpire steps in.

:51:11.:51:18.

Wow, what time this to happen. Any part of the body... Mr Cilic has

:51:19.:51:50.

one challenge remaining. We couldn't really see from here. The umpire

:51:51.:51:52.

saying it was his foot. Maybe just moved on as we lose the

:51:53.:52:20.

shot. We have to trust the umpire, very good umpire. Big moments, break

:52:21.:52:21.

points. What an effort, but it's wide and

:52:22.:52:51.

Johnson is broken. What a game. Cilic moving through to the

:52:52.:52:59.

semifinals an Steve Johnson and on. So had to put something like that

:53:00.:53:04.

behind you. Very difficult. Interesting of the talks to the

:53:05.:53:08.

umpire or not, because he is a very fair player, Steve Johnson. His

:53:09.:53:14.

reputation is impeccable. Let's see... He doesn't seem to be. You

:53:15.:53:19.

know if you've done it, obviously you will feel it as a player. I

:53:20.:53:23.

don't think he's too annoyed about it. Probably annoyed more at himself

:53:24.:53:28.

than anything. If he for sure new in his mind he hadn't touched it with

:53:29.:53:34.

his feet he would be up at the net disputing it. As you said, a very

:53:35.:53:41.

fair player, Johnson. A few players would be haranguing the umpire. He

:53:42.:53:46.

is going to have to try and break Cilic now. It definitely affected

:53:47.:53:52.

him on the next point, his mind was rattled. It is a pity, because he

:53:53.:53:56.

has played a heck of a match here and it will be sad if it comes down

:53:57.:54:00.

to that point, which it may well do in the end, because that was a big

:54:01.:54:05.

point. If his foot did slide, it must have slipped that the last

:54:06.:54:10.

fraction and hit the net. Very unlucky. This would be enormous the

:54:11.:54:14.

Steve Johnson to get into the semifinal. Marin Cilic has been many

:54:15.:54:19.

times before and won the US Open. I think it matters slightly more to

:54:20.:54:23.

Steve Johnson band Cilic, but Cilic did enough to be there himself. And

:54:24.:54:28.

now he is serving for a place in the semifinals.

:54:29.:54:37.

Mr Johnson is challenging the call, the ball is called in. A look at

:54:38.:54:49.

this call, one born of frustration, not entirely backed up by belief. On

:54:50.:54:51.

the line. The call stands. And suddenly the world is against

:54:52.:55:28.

you. Mr Johnson has two challenges remaining.

:55:29.:55:53.

Just came out of that forehand there.

:55:54.:56:30.

So, Marin Cilic, champion in 2012, with two match points.

:56:31.:56:39.

Takes it at the very first attempt, and the number five seed moves

:56:40.:56:46.

through, after a good few problems against Steve Johnson. Who couldn't

:56:47.:56:52.

repeat his efforts after seeing the number four seed, Richard Gasquet,

:56:53.:56:55.

couldn't do it against the number five. Cilic goes through. A hard

:56:56.:57:01.

earned victory indeed for the Croatian.

:57:02.:57:08.

What a way for it to end the Steve Johnson. Not saying he would have

:57:09.:57:16.

won that game in any case, but the little touch on the net possibly a

:57:17.:57:22.

turning point. After those good wins, he was undone by Marin Cilic

:57:23.:57:27.

today. It is Cilic who will go through to play the winner of their

:57:28.:57:31.

next match on Court, which everyone is excited about. Andy Murray

:57:32.:57:36.

against Kyle Edmund. Steve Johnson moves on. With thoughts of what

:57:37.:57:45.

might have been... And Cilic mentioned he won in 2012 against now

:57:46.:58:02.

banding -- Nalbandian. Kyle Edmund with other plans. This is the

:58:03.:58:09.

winning moment for Marin Cilic. Cries of celebration. Marin Cilic is

:58:10.:58:26.

safely through to the semifinals, the first man through to the last

:58:27.:58:30.

four after that 3-set victory over Steve Johnson. Let's get the

:58:31.:58:35.

thoughts of Cilic, talking to John. Many congratulations, a tough old

:58:36.:58:40.

contacts? Very tough, I think Steve was playing pretty good today and

:58:41.:58:44.

serving well. Unfortunately I played a little bit bad in that first set

:58:45.:58:50.

tie-break. I had to dig out this match from the second and third set.

:58:51.:58:55.

It wasn't easy. The first game in the third set 0- 40 down and in the

:58:56.:59:01.

second zero to 30 down. But generally I am happy with the way

:59:02.:59:03.

I'm playing and hopefully I can continue. Have you ever played a

:59:04.:59:08.

match where perhaps the key turning point, right towards the end of the

:59:09.:59:12.

game, was a decision by an umpire about a player touching the net?

:59:13.:59:19.

Well, I haven't. I had a few times in my career where I was touching

:59:20.:59:24.

the net and it wasn't good. Obviously it can turn around the

:59:25.:59:28.

condition of the court. But sometimes it can happen, its grass,

:59:29.:59:33.

and you can't really stop close to the net. I think it was a pretty

:59:34.:59:38.

good match today. You won here four years ago, got the final beer after.

:59:39.:59:41.

It must be one of your favourite events on the circuit? Absolutely, I

:59:42.:59:46.

really enjoy to play here. Grass suits my game and when I am in good

:59:47.:59:50.

form I cannot wait play really well. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's

:59:51.:59:56.

match. I will play either Andy or Kyle, so it will probably be a bit

:59:57.:00:00.

of a crowd against me, but I'm going to enjoy that. I always enjoy the

:00:01.:00:04.

atmosphere here and thanks to everyone for their support. Good

:00:05.:00:08.

luck tomorrow, a bit, on behalf of the crowd. Marin Cilic, through to

:00:09.:00:12.

another semifinal here at Queen's Club. If I could ask you all to stay

:00:13.:00:16.

in your seats pleased, because we are going to have a presentation in

:00:17.:00:20.

a few moments with four of the greatest champions ever to play here

:00:21.:00:24.

at Queen's and four of the absolute giants in the history of tennis.

:00:25.:01:49.

So, for the fourth time, McEnroe holds up the cup.

:01:50.:02:13.

As I'm sure you're aware, Andy Murray is trying to win the Queens

:02:14.:02:18.

this year for the fifth time but a lot of great players have won it

:02:19.:02:20.

four times and we will have a special presentation to four of the

:02:21.:02:26.

legends of Queen's Club. In no particular order, but because I'm

:02:27.:02:29.

looking at him just now, please welcome the one and only Mr Boris

:02:30.:02:39.

Becker. And then in order of seniority, John McEnroe. And another

:02:40.:02:48.

special presentation to him last year, Lleyton Hewitt. And for some

:02:49.:02:57.

of you who are steeped in the history of tennis from the era when

:02:58.:03:00.

Australia really did rule the tennis world, Roy Emerson.

:03:01.:03:07.

If I can have a quick word with all of you, Boris, this was the

:03:08.:03:13.

tournament that launched you in the tennis world because three weeks

:03:14.:03:16.

after winning here he won Wimbledon for the first time. It was my very

:03:17.:03:21.

first tennis tournament I have one and obviously I went on to win

:03:22.:03:26.

another two or three. It is a place I'll remember for the rest of my

:03:27.:03:30.

life because of the winning are members like an here and it is a

:03:31.:03:36.

wonderful place. When you look at pictures of you as a 17-year-old

:03:37.:03:38.

does it feel like it to someone else? It was. I was going to say it

:03:39.:03:45.

is my younger brother. But I don't have one. Eventually I have to admit

:03:46.:03:51.

it was me. What is your favourite memory of playing here? One match

:03:52.:03:56.

that sticks in your mind? My first professional tournament was at

:03:57.:04:01.

Queens and I played a guy, I lost in the finals to Tony Roach. I thought

:04:02.:04:07.

to myself, I want to somehow, somewhere, learn how to volley like

:04:08.:04:13.

this guy. So I think I got somewhere near his level and the only other

:04:14.:04:20.

thing I want to say now is why didn't they have a challenge system

:04:21.:04:23.

when I played? I would have been proven right. What is interesting

:04:24.:04:30.

now is your coaching Brimelow is Routledge and you're sitting there

:04:31.:04:36.

in the box -- meals round which. You're now in line with the service

:04:37.:04:40.

line and realise what a hard job it is. I realised it then, I did have a

:04:41.:04:47.

strange way of showing it. Lleyton, your youngster in comparison to

:04:48.:04:52.

these guys. You're full -- year for titles, is the one that sticks out?

:04:53.:04:57.

Public my first final at the time. Makes Aburas was one of the best

:04:58.:05:01.

grass court players and a guy I idolised and looked up to. To be out

:05:02.:05:06.

here on these grass court bundled up the trophy after beating him the

:05:07.:05:11.

finals was special. Given the value of your generation, when you have

:05:12.:05:16.

this man on your right from the era of Newcombe and Road, what is he

:05:17.:05:20.

need to tennis in Australia? All of those guys mean so much. They fought

:05:21.:05:25.

so hard to give us the great opportunity to be professionals and

:05:26.:05:29.

set up the ATP Tour and we all these guys so much. It is a great honour

:05:30.:05:33.

standing alongside not just ride with these other two champions here

:05:34.:05:38.

today. Roy, you are the wily one who won this title four years a row. It

:05:39.:05:49.

is incredible. What was Queen's Club like in the early 60s? I played here

:05:50.:06:00.

in 54. He were winning it in the 60s though. Well, nine years later. I

:06:01.:06:07.

love Queens because we did not have any practice courts out of Wimbledon

:06:08.:06:15.

at that time. Our warm up was here and I played indoors a lot here

:06:16.:06:20.

because when it rained and moved indoors and trained indoors. It used

:06:21.:06:26.

to render as well? Yes. I have fond memories of Queens. Tell us, these

:06:27.:06:33.

cute stands that were used to, what was the attendance like in those

:06:34.:06:38.

days? Nothing like this. This is magnificent. But we still had a lot

:06:39.:06:46.

of fun back in those years. As I said, I would not have won Wimbledon

:06:47.:06:53.

without the end all courts here, which I trained on. -- indoor. I had

:06:54.:07:04.

the good fortune of winning, I think I lost a Labour lav in 62. Not a bad

:07:05.:07:13.

man to lose two. He was a bit of a pain to play against. It is just a

:07:14.:07:22.

great place. Fantastic to have you here and Lleyton and John and Boris

:07:23.:07:26.

and the reason we are doing this is I had a quick word with Stephen

:07:27.:07:29.

Farrell and you will make some special presentations to these guys.

:07:30.:07:34.

Tell us about these. Last year Andy Murray joined the ranks of the

:07:35.:07:37.

legendary players we have an court today and a couple of others in

:07:38.:07:41.

winning this title for a times and this year we wanted to celebrate our

:07:42.:07:46.

814 champions Castle around the site you can see pictures of the fall

:07:47.:07:50.

great players we would have with us on court and Anthony Wilding and

:07:51.:07:54.

Major Ritchie and Andy, so we invited Roy to be a special guest of

:07:55.:07:58.

the tournament this year and we were delighted when John and Boris and

:07:59.:08:03.

Leighton could also join us today. This is a tournament with fantastic

:08:04.:08:09.

champions and we are proud to have this presentation. Jim has been the

:08:10.:08:12.

tournament referee here for a 30 minute and agree the groundsman I

:08:13.:08:17.

going to present trophies. Lleyton obviously has won but we have three

:08:18.:08:23.

here. David Law, Leighton will present this to Roy Emerson. He read

:08:24.:08:29.

-- here we are, two giants of Antipodean tennis. Roy Emerson,

:08:30.:08:37.

fantastic. And Jim, would you like to give that to John.

:08:38.:08:51.

And Graham, to Boris, if you would. So, ladies and gentlemen, for

:08:52.:09:08.

legends, genuine legends of tennis, Lleyton Hewitt, Roy Emerson, John

:09:09.:09:11.

McEnroe and Boris Becker. Wonderful scenes on Centre Court and

:09:12.:09:23.

wonderful to recognise the legends on court who have entertained the

:09:24.:09:28.

crowds over the years. And all smiles on Centre Court. Four of the

:09:29.:09:32.

game's greatest. They have won this title four times but next on court

:09:33.:09:34.

is a man who is aiming for five. And he's playing well. Andy Murray

:09:35.:10:15.

will be facing fellow Brit Kyle Edmund in our next quarterfinal.

:10:16.:10:18.

John Lloyd is with me in the studio. That was so much fun. Rate senses of

:10:19.:10:25.

humour. They are all great, Roy Emerson told me some stories about

:10:26.:10:29.

Queens come played on the wood and he was the fittest in his

:10:30.:10:32.

generation. The equivalent of Dokovic or Nadal. He would come out

:10:33.:10:38.

of the wood and play for two hours and do Juan want and in the

:10:39.:10:41.

afternoon he would play five sets of singles every day for a week and

:10:42.:10:45.

would tire out all the practice partners. They were treated them in

:10:46.:10:48.

because he would exhaust them because he was so fit. He always

:10:49.:10:52.

believed that you have to play a fifth set better than your first

:10:53.:10:56.

set. That was his motto. Such a great era for Australian tennis. And

:10:57.:11:00.

also listening to Boris, you forget he was only 17 when he came here,

:11:01.:11:07.

unseeded at Wimbledon. It was an incredible storage. I don't think

:11:08.:11:10.

that will happen again. Never. After he won it I remember, people said,

:11:11.:11:16.

can you win Wimbledon? I don't know what the odds were but it was

:11:17.:11:19.

ridiculous and he went and won Wimbledon. I had practised with him

:11:20.:11:25.

about a month previously on clay and I was practising with him and Bob

:11:26.:11:29.

Brett and we looked at him and thought, he's a good player but at

:11:30.:11:35.

the -- a bitter role. 60s led to his old and the trophies here at

:11:36.:11:39.

Wimbledon. OK, we know that we are clocking about. As for back at

:11:40.:11:43.

Wimbledon, handmade times does he mention the challenge system? He

:11:44.:11:48.

loves it! It would have been funny if he had been here. Would it have

:11:49.:11:54.

been the same McEnroe? In some way, yes. He would have questioned the

:11:55.:12:01.

Hawk-Eye. Exactly! We have Andy Murray coming up next and four

:12:02.:12:06.

titles he has one, incredible achievement, and going for five. We

:12:07.:12:10.

have had Soomin Lee great players playing here come as bees and is

:12:11.:12:13.

amazing players along the journey as he mixes well to court behind Kyle

:12:14.:12:19.

Edmund, it is an incredible record. He just keeps on these records are

:12:20.:12:22.

astounding, these Grand Slam records. Ten finals and two wins in

:12:23.:12:31.

slams in an era where we have seen some ridiculous players at this top

:12:32.:12:35.

level to compete with them. Coming into Queens if he has a chance of

:12:36.:12:38.

winning five with the standards drop has had in the last few years when

:12:39.:12:41.

he has played and company French Open on the grass, it is

:12:42.:12:48.

magnificent. All these players, every player you speak to loves

:12:49.:12:52.

records, they love beating records and holding records and Andy Murray

:12:53.:12:56.

wants to win this tournament but don't go onto five, that will mean a

:12:57.:13:00.

lot to him. It is interesting, in tennis people think about world

:13:01.:13:04.

rankings but to players, the rankings don't mean it, it is about

:13:05.:13:08.

titles. The play. Obviously Andy would like to be number one in the

:13:09.:13:14.

world at some stage, which surely it will be. It is all about titles,

:13:15.:13:20.

winning tournaments and slams, that is what you are for and they fight

:13:21.:13:25.

for a new work hard for. As far as Kyle Edmund goes, he's speaking

:13:26.:13:28.

yesterday about how much he has looked up to Andy and admired him

:13:29.:13:33.

and has gone and trained with him. It is always difficult when you play

:13:34.:13:39.

one of your heroes. I don't knew if you will remember who you please

:13:40.:13:42.

come to intimidating to see them at the other end. It is right, the good

:13:43.:13:46.

thing is he has practised with him so many times and been a key member

:13:47.:13:49.

of the Davis Cup, so that will certainly help. He will have got

:13:50.:13:53.

used to that, which is something great. It is a great match for Kyle.

:13:54.:14:02.

What a chance to go up against the man, Andy Murray. And all of these

:14:03.:14:06.

practice sessions they've had and gone play against him to see where

:14:07.:14:10.

he is that in his level, when you play like Kyle Edmonds, hang around

:14:11.:14:14.

the top players. Not just on the cord come off the court, learn what

:14:15.:14:17.

they say and do and how they go about their game. You can only get

:14:18.:14:22.

better when you do that. Murray has changed so much over the years

:14:23.:14:26.

physically. He has taken it to a new level. He, Djokovic, Nadal and

:14:27.:14:34.

there. Sometimes 10-hour days, not just on the court, in the gym,

:14:35.:14:39.

Pilates, stretching. There is more to it than just hitting tennis

:14:40.:14:44.

balls. Yes, people do not understand what goes into it at this level. I

:14:45.:14:49.

know it is all sport but at the top, it is ridiculous. Let's face it,

:14:50.:14:56.

that is the only site of the tennis court that you are in complete

:14:57.:15:00.

control is your physical ability, so when he goes on the court Andy

:15:01.:15:03.

Murray knows there's basically in his mind he feels he is fitter than

:15:04.:15:08.

anyone else. Novak Djokovic to argue about that but in his mind he does

:15:09.:15:11.

not think there is anyone he plays that can run as many balls down as

:15:12.:15:15.

he can't, particularly over five sets. It is a great weapon when you

:15:16.:15:21.

go on court. Speaking of weapons, two different matches, using

:15:22.:15:23.

different weapons in both. Yesterday against Bedene, it was a super game

:15:24.:15:29.

from him and raised his level when it mattered, towards the latter

:15:30.:15:34.

stage of the match. I thought he played very well, complete contrast

:15:35.:15:38.

to playing Mahut in the first round, who was covering the net and giving

:15:39.:15:41.

him a target. He had to work the ball around and Bedene played very

:15:42.:15:47.

well. I loved his attitude since he came on the court. He has been very

:15:48.:15:53.

sharp, he is focused and once this. He has had a couple of niggles, but

:15:54.:15:59.

it has been positive and I think he's playing very well. For this

:16:00.:16:03.

tournament and Wimbledon looking ahead, he cannot be in better shape

:16:04.:16:07.

than right now after the French Open. Such a variety of shops on

:16:08.:16:12.

display. The choices and as every turn the ball comes over to him. The

:16:13.:16:17.

thing with Murray as we streak about him here, a British treasure. But

:16:18.:16:22.

overseas the public love him because he brings to the court something so

:16:23.:16:25.

different. People say today that a lot of tennis is a bit the same in

:16:26.:16:31.

some ways, but not Murray. He has so much variation. Every shot in the

:16:32.:16:37.

book. He is so quick, he has it all and people love that, they love his

:16:38.:16:41.

style. The drop shots, the logs, a death touch. He has so much feel.

:16:42.:16:47.

The service, the weapon, he has improved his second serve in the

:16:48.:16:51.

last two months. He changed it. He has made alterations and that is

:16:52.:16:55.

brave when you are already world number two. Guess why? He is not

:16:56.:17:01.

number one. He wants to be number one. Everything there is to get that

:17:02.:17:05.

level he will do that, which is why this man, a Van Ligman, is back in

:17:06.:17:10.

the picture. Alongside Jamie Delgado, that seems to be a dream

:17:11.:17:13.

team for him, really good friends with Jamie, so nice to have a friend

:17:14.:17:18.

as well. He's also a college coach with Gillies Miller, he raised him

:17:19.:17:24.

up the rankings as well. A bit of a worry yesterday with the right

:17:25.:17:29.

shoulder. We hope that is OK. But as the Kyle Edmund, we saw him standing

:17:30.:17:33.

next of Murray, he has physically changed as well. He is strong. No

:17:34.:17:38.

bad that -- no doubt about that. Using very good shape. We all speak

:17:39.:17:43.

that weapons in the game, big first serve and forehand. His backhand

:17:44.:17:47.

definitely improved. The thing he has to work on is his defending is

:17:48.:17:52.

not quite as good. The quick movements, he is not quite there

:17:53.:17:56.

yet. But he will improve, he is a good match player and loves a

:17:57.:18:00.

challenge and I cannot wait dizzy how he reacts to this. I hope Yumbis

:18:01.:18:04.

is the occasion, think he will and he will go out and put everything on

:18:05.:18:09.

the mark and see where he is at the level of Andy Murray. I think he

:18:10.:18:11.

will have learned a lot from playing in the Davis Cup tie. Making your

:18:12.:18:17.

debut in the final, it cannot get bigger and he thrive. He just ran

:18:18.:18:21.

out of gas because nerves and everything else, but the first two

:18:22.:18:24.

sets he was making golfing look like an average. Was brilliant. Should

:18:25.:18:30.

embrace this occasion. He had his first win over a top player against

:18:31.:18:35.

Gillies Simon, and some points from that, speak about weapons. His

:18:36.:18:40.

forehand is world-class. It is big. You busy the backhand has improved.

:18:41.:18:44.

It is a weakness but I don't think so any more. You cannot press on

:18:45.:18:48.

that side, the forehand, you can see the whip, not afraid to go into the

:18:49.:18:53.

net, which is good. He is becoming an all-round player and for British

:18:54.:19:00.

tennis and Davis Cup, his best surface is probably clay, which we

:19:01.:19:03.

haven't had from any years. He is coming in as a number two and if

:19:04.:19:09.

Andy doesn't play he will be a solid number one. It is looking good. And

:19:10.:19:14.

he was asked yesterday and said he is a potentially top 20 player. That

:19:15.:19:18.

is pretty good. Sadly top 50, will not disagree with top 20. Andy knows

:19:19.:19:25.

better. He has been around him so he will know, these players don't say

:19:26.:19:28.

things like that unless they mean it. He must make things happen

:19:29.:19:32.

today, like he did against Gillies Simon. He has to use his weapons and

:19:33.:19:36.

not get too much involved in the long rallies because he would win

:19:37.:19:41.

them. No, it is a dividing line when you go up against a player above you

:19:42.:19:44.

because you have to go slightly outside your comfort zone. You'd

:19:45.:19:48.

want to go too far ready areas, all over the place but if you go and

:19:49.:19:52.

play like a normal match he has no short so as to be aggressive and

:19:53.:19:56.

when he sees an opening there be no visitation. He may be has to make

:19:57.:20:00.

some more errors, even on the second serve or have to go more than

:20:01.:20:04.

normal. Maybe a few more double faults but he has to gamble. If he

:20:05.:20:08.

goes out and displays his game, that will not be enough. The Maastricht

:20:09.:20:12.

extra. He was speaking about how he has learned so much from Andy,

:20:13.:20:17.

including dealing with life on tour. He has added to his team,

:20:18.:20:21.

nutritionist, there is more to it than just having to get the diet

:20:22.:20:27.

fight and training right, all the injuries sorted. It is one of the

:20:28.:20:31.

great regret I have from when I played. I learned too late, hang

:20:32.:20:36.

around with the winners, the real winners. If you can hang around them

:20:37.:20:39.

and be around them in practice sessions and learn what they do of

:20:40.:20:42.

the court and had to get prepared, you will do pretty well. I ran the

:20:43.:20:46.

top guys whenever you get a chance because you will be a better player

:20:47.:20:50.

if you do that. Thank you. We know what to expect from Andy but this

:20:51.:20:55.

will be a test of nerve and belief for the 21-year-old Kyle Edmund.

:20:56.:21:00.

Let's sit back and enjoy this with Peter Fleming and Andrew Carson.

:21:01.:21:01.

COMMENTATOR: Thank you. You were married to

:21:02.:21:06.

Chrissy, that was hang around with the winner. We will contact you at

:21:07.:21:14.

the end of the set. Or whatever. This will be fun. The sun is

:21:15.:21:19.

shining, to quarterfinal day here. Two Brits playing each other, a very

:21:20.:21:26.

good Young one serving to a legendary middle-aged Andy Murray.

:21:27.:21:47.

Good to hear Andy Murray turned as middle-aged. Which makes us one foot

:21:48.:21:55.

in the grave! -- termed. On the first page of the Kyle Edmund

:21:56.:22:23.

playbook you will see this, big first serve, short reply, good

:22:24.:22:28.

footwork and then this wonderful, natural Rakitic speed through the

:22:29.:22:29.

ball. Very explosive. A settling start. 40-0 in the first

:22:30.:22:35.

game. Nice settler. Big crowd, this. A big

:22:36.:23:10.

arena to play in, the Davis Cup final. Peter Fleming has played, how

:23:11.:23:13.

many? Three. What was the biggest one? They were all pretty big. In

:23:14.:23:23.

terms of people watching? I guess, Cincinnati against Argentina. How

:23:24.:23:26.

does it affect you? When you play in front of a big crowd can get under

:23:27.:23:31.

the skin. It is exciting, it is always exciting. I'm sure Kyle is

:23:32.:23:35.

very nervous for this match, good that he first to got the first game

:23:36.:23:41.

-- that he got the first game under his belt.

:23:42.:24:10.

That is the Kyle Edmund supporting roles. They have obviously been had

:24:11.:24:21.

shopping together. Friends, coaches, agents, physios.

:24:22.:24:47.

There is a nutritionist somewhere called Glen as well. He works with

:24:48.:24:50.

both of these players. He will be neutral today.

:24:51.:25:11.

Tough ball for Andy Murray to deal with. A nice opportunity here early

:25:12.:25:26.

for the man from Beverley. He has won six of the first seven points

:25:27.:25:28.

here. Great start. Interesting in these early stages to

:25:29.:26:30.

see how Murray plays and where he plays against Kyle Edmund. If you

:26:31.:26:33.

want to look at an opponent and dissecting, look at the way Andy

:26:34.:26:36.

Murray plays against him on the three big points from 1530, Murray

:26:37.:26:41.

going to the Edmund forehand side each time on serve.

:26:42.:26:51.

The slide serve as such an important asset, especially on a grass court.

:26:52.:27:00.

In the dos court -- deuce court because it takes the opponent well

:27:01.:27:06.

out of court, stays low, sits through, difficult to return. Maybe

:27:07.:27:09.

steadier on the backhand return than the forehand? Perhaps.

:27:10.:27:30.

The old Daisy Cutter on the backhand side. No daisies here. But he will

:27:31.:27:38.

have taken a couple of millimetres of the grass, look at this one, that

:27:39.:27:41.

was the one from Edmund, sideways across. I really probing a short

:27:42.:27:45.

ball. It is the overhead, the missed one

:27:46.:27:57.

on the first point has caused this trouble as much as anything.

:27:58.:28:17.

That time the serve jamming Murray in the body, did not really get the

:28:18.:28:25.

strings on the ball as he would have liked.

:28:26.:29:00.

He doesn't miss many of those. He normally goes cross-court. Did not

:29:01.:29:08.

have quite enough time to go crosscourt, the approach just enough

:29:09.:29:15.

bite. Two break points saved. The sun to the first time a bit of a

:29:16.:29:20.

factor this week from the end Edmund is serving from.

:29:21.:29:27.

That is well done, three are wrote for the youngster.

:29:28.:29:33.

On a grass court you have two volley behind people, if you volley into

:29:34.:30:55.

the "People are running on so well these days and Murray won't miss a

:30:56.:31:01.

passing shot like that. Not enough time to cover those, is there,

:31:02.:31:05.

Peter? No question. Interesting tactic from Kyle Edmund. I'm sure on

:31:06.:31:09.

paper it sounds like a great idea, are mixed things up, serve and

:31:10.:31:15.

volley occasionally, but on break point down, Andy Murray is perhaps

:31:16.:31:22.

the last guy that that strategy will work against, simply because he is

:31:23.:31:28.

such an effective return. Puts the ball back into play almost every

:31:29.:31:31.

time, and often into awkward positions. Took five days off after

:31:32.:31:38.

completing his set of Grand Slam finals by making the French Open

:31:39.:31:41.

final where he lost to Novak Djokovic. Five days off to recover

:31:42.:31:47.

physically and emotionally. A fine clay court season he had. The

:31:48.:31:57.

weather, so far so good today. And despite all the rain we have had

:31:58.:32:01.

this week, the court appears to have dried out quite a bit. The footing

:32:02.:32:07.

looks a lot more secure than it did in the first couple of days. Yes,

:32:08.:32:12.

the corporate guests are making their way in, after dining. People

:32:13.:32:21.

always like to have a pop at the prawns amateurs, but it is much

:32:22.:32:25.

better than prom damages here, superb stuff. These corporate

:32:26.:32:30.

sponsors pay the bills and provide the field and stadium we are all

:32:31.:32:34.

enjoying, so we will show a little bit of patience - this time!

:32:35.:33:00.

That is a difficult shot to attempt, Murray's backhand screaming for

:33:01.:33:10.

Edmund to change to rich in on it. That is about the most difficult

:33:11.:33:15.

direction he could have picked. In change direction.

:33:16.:33:49.

And that perhaps is the area of the game Kyle Edmund has improved the

:33:50.:33:56.

most in, over the last six months or so. The backhand has become a

:33:57.:33:59.

weapon. Not all good news for the Murray

:34:00.:34:21.

family today on the tennis court. Jamie Murray, the world number one

:34:22.:34:24.

and a moment in the doubles, with his partner Bruno Soares, have lost

:34:25.:34:37.

in a final set tie-break to Chris Guccione and Andre Sa.

:34:38.:35:10.

The most keenly anticipated match, I would say, at the tournament so far,

:35:11.:35:14.

this all British quarterfinal. Murray's forehand was an absolute

:35:15.:35:59.

rocket, the one prior to that forehand up the line from Edmund. He

:36:00.:36:01.

did well to steer it into the court. Every big point Murray is serving to

:36:02.:36:23.

Kyle Edmund's forehand. Kyle needs to adjust to that and take away the

:36:24.:36:29.

slice serve, it is clearly Andy's favourite serve. An big points, move

:36:30.:36:33.

over a few inches, don't give it to him.

:36:34.:36:43.

Wouldn't be surprised if he changed the direction on this one, now he's

:36:44.:36:47.

up. Really got a lot of explosive, fast

:36:48.:37:26.

twitch fibres, Kyle Edmund. His forehand is an absolute weapon.

:37:27.:37:43.

A bit nervy. Certainly a serve that Murray was shocked with.

:37:44.:38:24.

A couple of donations, the last one particularly, when he missed double

:38:25.:38:48.

fault in the second set. A superbly played game by Edmund, that

:38:49.:38:51.

certainly will raise his spirits. Certainly not the case, though, the

:38:52.:38:53.

Andy Murray. Edmund making good use of the first

:38:54.:40:15.

ball. Watching Kyle played the other day

:40:16.:40:41.

in his first match, it was the first time I've been able to see him live

:40:42.:40:47.

in a while. To think it me, first as backhand has improved. Secondly, he

:40:48.:40:51.

moves up from the back of the court so much better than he previously

:40:52.:40:56.

did. Clearly he has been working on his first step into the court,

:40:57.:41:00.

taking the ball early, giving opponents a little time to react.

:41:01.:41:30.

Here at Queen's Club, a quarterfinal between two British players, Kyle

:41:31.:41:46.

Edmund from Beverley in Yorkshire. He benefited from the withdrawal of

:41:47.:41:51.

Paul Henry Matthew, the French player, in the second round, having

:41:52.:41:54.

beaten another Frenchman, Gilles Simon. Better introduce you to some

:41:55.:42:00.

of the people in his box. I think we will see a lot of Kyle Edmund in

:42:01.:42:04.

years to come. In the blue T-shirt is Ryan Jones. Alan Jones, many of

:42:05.:42:11.

you will remember, that is his son. On the right, Fraser Wright, a

:42:12.:42:17.

friend of Kyle's, as well as looking after some of his business aspects.

:42:18.:42:22.

Ian on the left, a physiotherapist, in the white T-shirt. He has his own

:42:23.:42:27.

practice in north London and will be spending more time on the road. They

:42:28.:42:33.

are interesting, it's good. 21 years old, spending his prize-money in the

:42:34.:42:38.

right way. And Tom Davis, just out of shot. A fine player himself, a

:42:39.:42:43.

coach. He is from Beverley as well, and a good player himself. So the

:42:44.:42:52.

support group are in there. Also a young lad who has a brain tumour

:42:53.:42:56.

wanted to spend time with Kyle this week and see some tennis. They have

:42:57.:43:00.

become friends. That is the professional setup. Mum Denise and

:43:01.:43:09.

dad Stephen sit elsewhere, they separate the personal and

:43:10.:43:10.

professional. This forehand of Kyle Edmund's...

:43:11.:44:07.

This can do damage. This kid packs a punch, both with the serve and the

:44:08.:44:11.

forehand. Backhand improving as well.

:44:12.:44:27.

Average forehand speed of Kyle Edmund, 84, that is filled with

:44:28.:44:34.

adrenaline. Average, 84. That is big.

:44:35.:45:20.

Interesting comment from Andy there, you're over thinking on your serve

:45:21.:45:27.

again. Good point. The goal really is to think as little as possible

:45:28.:45:31.

out on the court, at least while the ball is in play. In between points,

:45:32.:45:37.

OK, fine, think about tactics. But when it in play, just react and hit

:45:38.:45:39.

it to the target. Lots of forehand return Mrs from

:45:40.:45:58.

Kyle Edmund so far and still at 3-3 and playing well. -- forehand

:45:59.:46:01.

misses. Yes, it is starting to appear that

:46:02.:46:15.

Andy is not just hitting his favourite serve, the slice, but

:46:16.:46:19.

targeting a perceived weakness in Edmund.

:46:20.:46:38.

And that's the problem with the body serve, if you miss the target, was

:46:39.:46:45.

trying to slide this intermarry's left hip, but if you missed the

:46:46.:46:51.

target it is in the hitting zone, punished. -- into Murray's.

:46:52.:47:07.

Dear oh dear, that's horrible, that's two of those. Playing it a

:47:08.:47:12.

little bit too quick. Perhaps looking up into the sun as well from

:47:13.:47:17.

this side. That right hip coming through a little early, and that

:47:18.:47:21.

chest as well, maybe, getting sideways map. A big one, 0- 30.

:47:22.:48:11.

You can count those misses. On one hand. A cardinal error for a player

:48:12.:48:18.

of his standard. Oh, yes! Good work there from Andy

:48:19.:48:58.

Murray. Well, that's how well he's moving,

:48:59.:49:11.

goodness me. That was passed in, if he didn't dive... He had to. Well

:49:12.:49:17.

handled from Edmund there. Good work. We had Begovic here the other

:49:18.:49:25.

day, the Chelsea goalkeeper. He would be pleased with this one. Look

:49:26.:49:30.

at this. Plays it well, Kyle Edmund, just plays it across court. Looks

:49:31.:49:34.

like it might have got past him. He did well. Good split step. You can

:49:35.:49:42.

see him here, land Carroll, he can go either way. Virtually the whole

:49:43.:49:48.

net covered. At what age do you have to stop doing that, because you lose

:49:49.:49:56.

all sense of grace and poise? The moment you finish. Well, I think

:49:57.:50:02.

that age gets higher and higher each year, when these players come more

:50:03.:50:08.

and more astute as to how to remain fit, how to rehab injuries. I think

:50:09.:50:14.

the days of players thought of being over the hill in their late 20s are

:50:15.:50:21.

over. All these guys seem so fit going into their 30s. What was it,

:50:22.:50:28.

50 players in the French Open draw were 30 or over? Amazing stat. Kyle

:50:29.:50:34.

Edmund one of the good young and is, for sure. People are still filtering

:50:35.:50:39.

in here. There are narrow walkways. And quite narrow seat is, as well.

:50:40.:50:45.

With a break of serve, Andy Murray. And serving with the new balls. That

:50:46.:51:03.

one seemed to get to the fence very quickly.

:51:04.:52:42.

Forehand again. You are right, every big point Murray is serving to

:52:43.:52:52.

Edmund's forehand. It would be noticed by other players, in

:52:53.:52:54.

particular other players' coaches. You get to a certain age and certain

:52:55.:53:19.

position, certain ranking in the game, and at that point your game is

:53:20.:53:23.

well-known in the locker room and other coaches who talk all the time,

:53:24.:53:27.

and are around the game. It's their job to notice these things, where to

:53:28.:53:32.

serve, what strengths and weaknesses has. -- somebody has.

:53:33.:53:54.

We talked about how Murray makes so many returns, and yet in the last

:53:55.:54:04.

year especially, he hits seconds serve returns with a great deal of

:54:05.:54:06.

power. Murray seems in a state of shock,

:54:07.:55:25.

really. Especially when hitting passing shots. So deadly accurate

:55:26.:55:27.

most of the time. He is big but he is pretty mobile,

:55:28.:56:00.

as well. Pretty interesting set, this. There

:56:01.:57:00.

have been breaks of serve. Andy Murray not really troubled, playing

:57:01.:57:05.

50-60% of what we know he can. Looks completely in control, like it was

:57:06.:57:09.

against the British number two, Aljaz Bedene in the second round,

:57:10.:57:14.

played yesterday. Ivan Lendl, big news that he is back on board. That

:57:15.:57:20.

is the coaching set up talking with Judy. It is interesting, to bring

:57:21.:57:25.

somebody else like that in and it is the talking point of the week. He is

:57:26.:57:32.

the man who was at the helm of Murray's game when he had all his

:57:33.:57:35.

greatest successes. So it has to be a great idea that Murray brings him

:57:36.:57:40.

back. I was surprised, but delighted. If we want to see the

:57:41.:57:46.

best out of Andy Murray, and that means beating Novak Djokovic, Ivan

:57:47.:57:51.

Lendl has to be the man. No question, Ivan Wendell has a

:57:52.:57:54.

straightforward approach to the game, a no-nonsense approach, if you

:57:55.:58:00.

will. -- Ivan Lendl. I think Andy respects it, respects just about

:58:01.:58:03.

everything out of his mouth. Just having to wait as people

:58:04.:58:21.

settle. And Andy Murray serving for the first set of this quarterfinal

:58:22.:58:23.

here at Queen's. That was a mental error, Murray

:58:24.:58:56.

expecting the return of serve to land beyond the baseline. With

:58:57.:58:57.

unprepared when it didn't. Comfortable hold. Murray cruising

:58:58.:00:05.

along in third gear. One setup in this quarterfinal. The British and

:00:06.:00:08.

one looking very good on Centre Court. Well they change ends let's

:00:09.:00:12.

look at a few results. The Egon Championships, earlier this morning

:00:13.:00:16.

Roberto Bautista Agut came on to complete his match with Young. It

:00:17.:00:22.

was suspended because of rain yesterday and he raced through the

:00:23.:00:26.

second set 6-2. Straight sets victory and he will be back on

:00:27.:00:29.

course to face Milos Raonic to later. A busy day for him and it was

:00:30.:00:38.

a busy day for Marin Cilic. A longer 3-set match against Steve Johnson,

:00:39.:00:45.

former champion. Came through in three sets, 6-4 in the third and

:00:46.:00:48.

Cilic will face the winner of Murray and Edmund. Alexander the highest

:00:49.:00:58.

ranked teenager in the men's game plans reach the semifinals. Marcos

:00:59.:01:06.

Baghdatis 76-63 that makes 7-6, 6-3. Roger Federer, when threes first set

:01:07.:01:13.

really quickly against David Goffin. The informed dollar ATM -- Dummett

:01:14.:01:25.

time. And in the ladies Egon classic, the Australian Open

:01:26.:01:28.

champion Angelique Kerber dropped the first set in her second match

:01:29.:01:36.

but came through. Disappointment for the British players left in the

:01:37.:01:42.

draw. Heather Watson went down the world over 40 and Joel -- Johanna

:01:43.:01:50.

Konta last two Wickmayer, player ranked 30 places below her. That is

:01:51.:01:54.

what is happening in tennis around the world. All eyes on Murray and

:01:55.:02:01.

Edmund. Second set, Edmund deserved. COMMENTATOR:

:02:02.:02:03.

Just done a challenger level there is a tournament is going on in Kyle

:02:04.:02:12.

Edmund home county of Yorkshire. Bright and climb remaining in the

:02:13.:02:14.

quarterfinals and playing Ryan Harris as the challenger. The last

:02:15.:02:21.

GB interest as far as I know around the place.

:02:22.:02:32.

Interesting spectators today come including Michael Parkinson, who was

:02:33.:02:37.

his sport. Some lovely words to say about Muhammad Ali, his passing

:02:38.:02:42.

recently. It was Anna that smack it was a highlight when they spoke with

:02:43.:02:48.

each other. -- it was always a highlight.

:02:49.:04:00.

I don't believe it! That is terrible. That is the easy choccy

:04:01.:04:11.

will miss this week. That's a shot he will. He has missed three from

:04:12.:04:14.

that end, that was the bounced smash but missed to come out of the area.

:04:15.:04:20.

Lost complete Lee on the overhead. The sun went behind the cloud as

:04:21.:04:21.

well. That is away. It is a match full of

:04:22.:04:44.

errors just now. Sometimes it just worked out that way.

:04:45.:04:53.

You true bowler Dusanova, Andy Murray, making a few mistakes. --

:04:54.:04:59.

not too bothered. How Edmund is doing well considering they try to

:05:00.:05:02.

deliver his washing machine this morning, where they did this --

:05:03.:05:08.

delivered, at 6:30am. He has a nice new to bed flat in south-west

:05:09.:05:17.

London. And they arrived early. I believe his mother has to be in

:05:18.:05:21.

between two and six tomorrow to take another delivery but the entire

:05:22.:05:27.

places boxes as he moves in onto the property ladder with his tennis

:05:28.:05:29.

winnings. I will tell you his real passion,

:05:30.:06:03.

cast. He is a petrol head. He was thrilled that Jeremy Clarkson was

:06:04.:06:05.

watching him the other day against Gilles Simon. His ambition is to get

:06:06.:06:08.

on that programme of his. I'm sure he would take an invitation

:06:09.:06:26.

from the Chris Evans version as well.

:06:27.:07:19.

He is cruising along quite comfortably, Andy Murray.

:07:20.:07:46.

101 mile are second serve. Complete control of the ball. That particular

:07:47.:07:55.

serve, not much rhythm on the first. He is cruising, there is no chance

:07:56.:08:00.

at this point of there being any result other than Andy Murray

:08:01.:08:03.

winning. This is interesting, can Kyle Edmund do anything about it?

:08:04.:08:07.

This is what the top guys are able to do, he is controlling affairs.

:08:08.:08:12.

Interesting to see how Edmund reacts.

:08:13.:08:36.

Wow. Did it catch the line? It certainly appears as though it did.

:08:37.:09:30.

Any disparity between these two, sadly does not appear to be on the

:09:31.:09:35.

Edmund serve. He has played well behind it today. It is to somehow

:09:36.:09:40.

figure out a way to put some more returns in play an big points.

:09:41.:10:04.

Edmund leads to- one. 2016, and even year for this championship. In even

:10:05.:10:15.

years Andy Murray has won six matches and lost four at Queen's

:10:16.:10:21.

Club. In old years, he has won 21 matches and lost one. That is pretty

:10:22.:10:29.

weird. He is an old guy, clearly. It is interesting how Edmund is able to

:10:30.:10:34.

rush his opponent today, one of the quickest men on the court. His

:10:35.:10:39.

forehand is his weapon. 94 Mallon are was one of them that he hit in

:10:40.:10:43.

the previous game that is rushed Andy Murray, even though he was a

:10:44.:10:49.

good 15-18 feet by the baseline and over the years as he learns how to

:10:50.:10:53.

control this, is number one weapon in his game. He will certainly take

:10:54.:10:58.

some scouts but everyone is playing the game, what can he get to in the

:10:59.:11:06.

rankings? Have you see it? It all depends how long he continues to

:11:07.:11:11.

grow. He could be a top 20 player, I did not think so a year ago but he

:11:12.:11:14.

has certainly improved so much in the last year that the ceiling

:11:15.:11:26.

appears to be rising. Top 20. Yes. Talk is cheap. We will have to wait

:11:27.:11:27.

and see. If not higher. The sky is the limit.

:11:28.:12:11.

So much depends on what the guy believes he can do. With a forehand

:12:12.:12:19.

like that, we spoke about the forehand come makes a lot of balls

:12:20.:12:22.

because he seems to understand when to hit it flat and when to hit it

:12:23.:12:24.

with more spin and keep it in. That is the sort of error that we

:12:25.:13:13.

don't normally associate with Andy Murray.

:13:14.:14:42.

Edmund leads 3-1. An unhappy Andy Murray, he will have to get going.

:14:43.:14:51.

Not going through the motions,. He is unsettled. He is definitely

:14:52.:15:00.

either overthinking it or just not feeling the ball. Now he has very

:15:01.:15:08.

excited 21 at the other end who is six foot one and full of muscles

:15:09.:15:13.

with nothing to lose in this match. He has the wind in his sales now.

:15:14.:15:32.

Go! Fire up. Just lacking a bit of adrenaline. Nothing like the threat

:15:33.:15:40.

of losing a set or a match to get you going, bit of greatest -- crisis

:15:41.:15:42.

motivation. That looked wide on the baseline. Is

:15:43.:16:02.

he checking? Mr Edmonds challenging the call. It has certainly got some

:16:03.:16:09.

chalk on it, where that came from will be interesting. Was it on the

:16:10.:16:19.

baseline white? Just out. Call stands. Good overall. -- good

:16:20.:16:24.

overrule. Fantastic return of serve. Just lent

:16:25.:17:09.

on the backhand, straight down the middle, deep. Come on Andy! Just

:17:10.:17:16.

wants to break that. Deuce Mr Edmund with two challenges

:17:17.:17:45.

remaining. It is interesting, it appears that Andy is just a little

:17:46.:17:49.

flat, almost like he's trying to keep the governor on so he does not

:17:50.:17:51.

explode. Anything over the net would have

:17:52.:18:13.

been good. Just enough to return of serve. And then he turned defence

:18:14.:18:22.

into attack. There is the return. Talk about Novak Djokovic. Murray

:18:23.:18:27.

problem probably number two in the world as well. -- Murray, probably.

:18:28.:18:33.

Sometimes number one. I think you can make a good argument

:18:34.:18:46.

for calling Andy Murray the best return in the game. He certainly is

:18:47.:18:48.

very aggressive at times. Even the boys are having a laugh he

:18:49.:19:16.

has missed so many overheads. Childhood friend.

:19:17.:19:36.

You can't miss that. Deuce. Interesting choice, it appeared like

:19:37.:19:47.

that was the perfect time to go behind Murray, he was sprinting to

:19:48.:19:48.

the". -- open court. That is the second serve return that

:19:49.:20:23.

Murray has utilised so often this year, stands inside the baseline,

:20:24.:20:27.

takes it early and returns it with interest. Very aggressive.

:20:28.:20:45.

Murray has such a great match player, he strikes back and breaks

:20:46.:21:03.

back, it is 3-2 in the second set. We'll be right back with this match

:21:04.:21:08.

but another of the super coaches as lender watches Murray on Centre

:21:09.:21:12.

Court, John Maccarone has been on court with his charge, Milos Raonic,

:21:13.:21:15.

the big serving Canadian and he will be next on court to face Roberto

:21:16.:21:21.

Bautista Agut. There is McEnroe and already the McEnroe effect on he's

:21:22.:21:25.

being more aggressive, Milos Raonic, this week and Machenaud encouraging

:21:26.:21:29.

him to come forward and really attack the play. That is the next of

:21:30.:21:35.

the quarterfinals. McEnroe will take seat, probably the same on Evander

:21:36.:21:39.

Lendl is in. I wonder if they'll have words on the way they are or

:21:40.:21:46.

not. What you think? They will fake it. How big a rivalry was it? There

:21:47.:21:55.

was no love lost between the two of those. Obviously now they have a

:21:56.:22:02.

great mutual respect. But when they were doing battle, they were not

:22:03.:22:06.

many niceties exchanged. Ravage Murray -- Raonic, Murray. I

:22:07.:22:20.

wonder that will be the final. We will find out.

:22:21.:22:44.

Mr Edmund challenging the call. No challenge.

:22:45.:24:56.

There is no question that is moving forward, Kyle Edmund is a force. To

:24:57.:25:03.

answer your question as to how high he can go, I think it depends on how

:25:04.:25:10.

he developed his defensive skills. His ability to put returns into

:25:11.:25:11.

play. I hope the noise was worse than any

:25:12.:25:25.

injury he might have. It's always a shock. Those abductor muscles can

:25:26.:25:39.

often take a beating on this surface. Just try to change

:25:40.:25:46.

correction, Edmund does well to play the ball, pushes off the right foot

:25:47.:25:55.

and it goes. He will have definitely strained a few sinews in that

:25:56.:26:00.

muscle. The question is how many and how badly. He seems to be all right.

:26:01.:26:07.

The cameras will be checking if they got that.

:26:08.:26:45.

And I think that bitter frustration is the thought of the next few weeks

:26:46.:26:56.

coming up. It is something that will be on the go. Will it disappear in a

:26:57.:26:58.

day or two? Yes. Looking for that opportunity.

:26:59.:27:39.

Fantastic footwork from Kyle Edmund. Murray is very disappointed to have

:27:40.:27:42.

dropped serve for a third time in this match. Talk about a big-time

:27:43.:27:51.

conversion of a break point. Good, deep ball. Edmund, edging his way

:27:52.:27:57.

into that corner, hoping to see a forehand. The timing of that move

:27:58.:28:04.

when you run around your backhand is absolutely everything because if

:28:05.:28:08.

Murray had seen him moving to hit a forehand he might have slipped the

:28:09.:28:12.

backhand down the line and got the point. Excellent work from Kyle

:28:13.:28:15.

Edmund, 96 mile are forehand to finish the job for- two.

:28:16.:30:31.

Kyle Edmund, looking extremely at ease at the moment.

:30:32.:30:51.

Murray, on the other hand, distracted.

:30:52.:31:20.

Just holding off on this one. Kyle Edmund off to the forehand side.

:31:21.:31:45.

Four aces this match, Kyle Edmund, all of them in the second set.

:31:46.:32:00.

He's doing himself prowled here. --, my. Andy Murray is just trying to

:32:01.:32:25.

get through the day, he is a class above, may be two classes above his

:32:26.:32:31.

opponent, but Kyle is doing well. Things like this don't help. Kyle

:32:32.:32:35.

did well to dig this one out of the corner. The backhand pass, Murray

:32:36.:32:43.

tried to change direction, a worrying scream, but he appears to

:32:44.:32:47.

be fine. It is always a surprise under shock when that happens, but I

:32:48.:32:50.

don't think we are seeing any lasting damage, or we hope that is

:32:51.:32:54.

the case. What's been interesting, look at this, when you look at the

:32:55.:33:00.

return placements, Murray returned pretty safe, middle of the court

:33:01.:33:06.

most of the time or short, not going to deep. Then you look at Edmund's

:33:07.:33:10.

return placement, a lot deeper and harder, he is going for it more,

:33:11.:33:15.

would you agree with that? I think Murray perhaps it's hard to read

:33:16.:33:26.

that much into it. We have seen Andy return, edible quite hard, going for

:33:27.:33:33.

more conservative targets perhaps. -- hit the ball quite hard. Higher

:33:34.:33:38.

ranked man Andy Murray in trouble here.

:33:39.:33:56.

I think the yelp we heard from Andy when he fell was born of fear,

:33:57.:34:11.

really. That hurts, I hope it's not bad. Thankfully, it doesn't appear

:34:12.:34:12.

to be. Mr Murray is challenging the call.

:34:13.:34:46.

The ball was called out. Mr Murray has one challenge

:34:47.:35:45.

remaining. Don't say this guy doesn't have any hands.

:35:46.:35:59.

Here is the game coming up, this will be interesting. Kyle Edmund in

:36:00.:36:10.

the top 100 of the world last summer, tremendous challenge a

:36:11.:36:13.

player. Right on the verge of leaving challengers behind for quite

:36:14.:36:19.

some time at the moment. Really getting established at this level

:36:20.:36:25.

now, serving for a set against Andy Murray. That would be great news for

:36:26.:36:26.

him. Line ball. That was unlucky, the ball checked

:36:27.:36:45.

on the line. Edmonds was well off balance when he hit the next return,

:36:46.:36:49.

which landed short and he was punished.

:36:50.:37:04.

He made that look incredibly easy. I promise you, it wasn't! That is a

:37:05.:37:10.

tough shot. So what is that man's belief like

:37:11.:38:31.

right now? Can he put down two big serves?

:38:32.:38:59.

That shot's going to make a lot of money. Already has. Plenty more to

:39:00.:39:06.

come. Well, what a fascinating moment that

:39:07.:39:28.

was and great presence of mind from Kyle Edmund. Lovely kick-serve out

:39:29.:39:33.

wide and moving behind it, it took Murray onto that still moist grass,

:39:34.:39:42.

outside the normal playing surface. Murray slipping, but it was the

:39:43.:39:47.

serve, it was the serve from Kyle Edmund that deserved the credit in

:39:48.:39:55.

that game. Of course, we focus on Andy Murray. But some high-level

:39:56.:39:58.

matchplay from Kyle Edmund. A lovely backhand from Murray, it

:39:59.:40:32.

really was. When he stamps that front foot down and lets the

:40:33.:40:36.

backhand fly, it arrives with the opponent which such weight to it.

:40:37.:40:44.

He just held back, Kyle Edmund, on that fearsome forehand on the last

:40:45.:41:49.

one and elected to play with a little more caution. Reaping the

:41:50.:41:57.

reward. Very good game. It's all going into the computer, this, a

:41:58.:42:01.

chance to take Murray to a third set.

:42:02.:42:26.

Wow, that is a tremendous effort. Well done Kyle Edmund! He has

:42:27.:42:39.

levelled it. And he showed us a very clean, match playing brain there.

:42:40.:42:52.

Absolutely. And Kyle will be thrilled with how he came back from

:42:53.:42:58.

15-40 in that game, played a couple of really savvy points. Backhand

:42:59.:43:05.

down the line. He played that last set point as though he were the

:43:06.:43:11.

favourite to win this match. Brushed aside Murray. The question is, for

:43:12.:43:18.

how much longer can he maintained that attitude? A great effort,

:43:19.:43:23.

though. Murray was certainly in control of the match. He was

:43:24.:43:26.

dictating what was happening out there and it just seemed to be a

:43:27.:43:32.

matter of time. We did pose the question, what could Edmund do to

:43:33.:43:37.

turn it around? Just finding the court a bit more, settled in. An

:43:38.:43:42.

hour and 22 and he looks completely at home. What a useful match this is

:43:43.:43:46.

going forward for him, and he may yet win it. Yes, he may. Obviously

:43:47.:43:52.

that would be a major shock, but he has shown us a lot, especially in

:43:53.:43:59.

his abilities to attack the Murray defence. Murray so well known for

:44:00.:44:03.

his ability to counterpunch and fend off opponents. And not an easy

:44:04.:44:08.

situation for Andy Murray. Playing this young man who has stayed at his

:44:09.:44:12.

house and has always been this young kid growing up. Now the kid tries to

:44:13.:44:18.

repay him by knocking him off his perch. This is not easy in front of

:44:19.:44:24.

this crowd and TV audience. Perhaps Andy came into this thinking, I'd

:44:25.:44:29.

like to work on this on this and this, and stay calm. And to desire

:44:30.:44:37.

off the ball, just for a moment. Will have to dig just a little

:44:38.:44:43.

deeper now. Sue Barker was telling us know joy today for Heather Watson

:44:44.:44:47.

or Johanna Konta. This would be a very interesting

:44:48.:45:08.

set. Murray needs to respond to this challenge.

:45:09.:46:24.

Perhaps just a bit of a let down for Edmund here. Can't afford to allow

:46:25.:46:33.

this to last any longer. His first couple of games so important to set

:46:34.:46:34.

the stage for this decider. The value of making your opponent

:46:35.:47:24.

playing one more ball, it doesn't have to be beautiful, just get it

:47:25.:47:28.

in. I'm not sure how well he hit that ball. Murray might initially

:47:29.:47:32.

have thought it was going long. No mistaking that one. It was a

:47:33.:47:47.

winner the moment it touched his strings. Didn't touch them for very

:47:48.:47:54.

long. That short take-back as well. That's natural power. Yeah. If I was

:47:55.:48:01.

his coaches I would say, jettisoned that attempt at a forehand chip

:48:02.:48:06.

return, just hit it like that one. Scared the life out of opponents.

:48:07.:48:13.

Even if you miss balls, if you make errors, as he did their... The

:48:14.:48:20.

threat of winner returns will scare a lot of opponents off.

:48:21.:48:55.

He can hit forehands as well. As if we didn't know! So, this match is

:48:56.:49:08.

certainly living up to its billings its billing as what they called the

:49:09.:49:14.

Battle of Britain, which may be a bit dramatic. Then, and Aljaz Bedene

:49:15.:49:24.

yesterday. The under 12 Great Britain players have taken the girls

:49:25.:49:31.

and Boys' Doubles titles this week. That's good news. Sue Westwood is

:49:32.:49:38.

listening to us from Redditch in Worcestershire. As we look at

:49:39.:49:45.

Michael Parkinson. She has got a question about John McEnroe, which

:49:46.:49:49.

we will get two in a second. Sue says now that John is an team

:49:50.:50:16.

Raonic, doesn't mean you won't be commentating at Wimbledon? No, it

:50:17.:50:21.

doesn't mean that, we just have to get our timing right.

:50:22.:51:34.

Oh, he's missed it and... A challenge. The ball was called out.

:51:35.:51:46.

It's a big point, this one. Murray has upped the intensity, hasn't he?

:51:47.:51:50.

A little bit of weight to each of the balls he is heading. The volley

:51:51.:51:57.

popped up on Edmund. That was a bad miss.

:51:58.:52:15.

A break to love. CNET so many times. -- seen it so many times. Saw it

:52:16.:52:31.

most recently, two sets down to Radek Stepanek in the French Open,

:52:32.:52:37.

he came back. 2-1 down against Borg in the second round of the French

:52:38.:52:42.

Open, wins it in five. Murray never beaten.

:52:43.:53:01.

The question remains, did those five set match is physically derail Andy

:53:02.:53:07.

Murray and cost him the final, perhaps? He played Karlovic and John

:53:08.:53:13.

Isner after that, a lot easier in terms of physical demands.

:53:14.:53:16.

Different, anyway. Kyle has done really well to reach

:53:17.:53:49.

this point, but it appears he is going through a 5-10 minute lull,

:53:50.:53:56.

where mentally he is fatigued, making more unforced errors than he

:53:57.:53:58.

has in quite some time. So, the memento and shift that we

:53:59.:55:08.

may have expected, seems to have happened. The question is, what can

:55:09.:55:13.

Kyle Edmund do about it? He responded very well in the second

:55:14.:55:20.

set to win it 6-3. The difference perhaps is that he is facing a

:55:21.:55:23.

different Andy Murray from the one he played in the early stages of set

:55:24.:55:31.

number two. Murray now fully engaged. You get the feeling he's

:55:32.:55:35.

not likely to donate as many unforced errors as he did an hour or

:55:36.:55:38.

so ago. Kyle Edmund to do what, in terms of

:55:39.:55:51.

British players, what only Tim Henman has done, beat Andy Murray.

:55:52.:55:59.

He beat him three times. Murray beat Henman three times, Henman just got

:56:00.:56:07.

him the once, in Bangkok. This is a different generation. Tim Henman

:56:08.:56:12.

beat Andy Murray? How did he do that? By getting to the net and

:56:13.:56:17.

volleying like a genius, I can only assume.

:56:18.:56:26.

Certainly caught my be picking up a bit of moisture at this point. --

:56:27.:56:37.

the court. Just spitting rain a little, that's all.

:56:38.:56:45.

Interesting that Kyle wants to talk about the state of the court rather

:56:46.:56:57.

than Andy. He is losing, so it would be a good

:56:58.:57:03.

idea to get off at this point. He's done well, got the umpire off the

:57:04.:57:13.

chair. Well, the crowd want more... But Kyle perfectly entitled to fight

:57:14.:57:23.

his corner there. This kid just got jeered. Everyone is having a good

:57:24.:57:26.

time watching the match. When it comes to jeering, Queen's

:57:27.:57:45.

Club has a very polite jeer. I don't know, I think they can rise

:57:46.:58:05.

to the occasion from time to time. Not the rowdiest sports ground. --

:58:06.:58:12.

sports crowd. I don't think we need water cannon

:58:13.:58:20.

here today! Beautiful shot. Putting young Kyle

:58:21.:58:41.

to the sword here, isn't he? He most certainly is. Edmonds needs to

:58:42.:58:48.

answer the bell now or this match will very quickly be done.

:58:49.:59:23.

Yeah, you go into that forehand at your peril. Murray I'm sure, thought

:59:24.:59:32.

he'd hit it, a pretty demanding shot came back again. At twice the speed.

:59:33.:59:55.

The second serve, perhaps a little bit fine. Not at least especially

:59:56.:00:03.

well. Murray manhandled it. This match will go into the vault of

:00:04.:00:36.

Kyle Edmonds and give him something to think about, because mentally he

:00:37.:00:42.

appeared to hit the wall. Right at the start of this third set.

:00:43.:01:24.

Let's get out one as well. Thank you.

:01:25.:01:42.

Fabulous, isn't it? This demonstration of top-class tennis

:01:43.:01:49.

from Andy Murray. The last 17 minutes of this set.

:01:50.:03:22.

Every time you going to his forehand, that is the one he had to

:03:23.:03:28.

guard against. You almost have to hit the ball and put your racket out

:03:29.:03:31.

and move in that direction is it away. He is deadly on the crosscourt

:03:32.:03:40.

pass. And that is 5-0 and a first for those games in this decider were

:03:41.:03:47.

over in 15 minutes. Only 20 minutes played in this set. When that last

:03:48.:03:54.

game at Wimbledon when he served out against Novak Djokovic alone was 12

:03:55.:03:58.

minutes long. He has put this one away pretty quickly. Yes, I think he

:03:59.:04:07.

will be pleased to win and to win decisively in this final set and get

:04:08.:04:11.

off the court before any possible rain delays. It remains to be seen

:04:12.:04:22.

if he does that. I was just thinking that he hasn't won a match at

:04:23.:04:27.

Wimbledon yet, Kyle Edmund, he has had three world card in the past,

:04:28.:04:30.

unable to get through the first round. He has seen enough action

:04:31.:04:35.

this week even though the second one was a walkover. Certainly the

:04:36.:04:39.

confidence will have raised this afternoon and he will be looking for

:04:40.:04:44.

a trip. Absolutely, this match will be a thrill for him because he has

:04:45.:04:50.

only won two matches on grass on the tour and his entire career. The

:04:51.:04:54.

second one being against Seymour on Monday. To come out and play as well

:04:55.:05:06.

as he did in both matches here will help show how much he has improved.

:05:07.:05:12.

And how much he can expect to improve in the future.

:05:13.:05:31.

He is locked in now. 95 miles an hour on the forehand side.

:05:32.:05:47.

I was just thinking Kyle Edmund has played is now at the French Open,

:05:48.:05:55.

just recently. Having won around their come big Novak Djokovic in

:05:56.:06:00.

Miami. Murray here. It strengthens you.

:06:01.:07:25.

At least that is something in this deciding set for Kyle Edmund,

:07:26.:07:30.

although Andy Murray is now serving for a place in the semifinal against

:07:31.:07:32.

Marin Cilic. With new tennis balls, which will be

:07:33.:07:39.

helpful. Well. It is fascinating. That is the

:07:40.:09:47.

steer that Lendl gave Andy Murray when Andy was looking over their

:09:48.:09:51.

come giving it words. He's looking over again. He will never react.

:09:52.:10:15.

COMMENTATOR: That will do! Deuce. The slice

:10:16.:10:50.

backhand puts opponents in all kinds of trouble. Not easy to drive it. It

:10:51.:10:54.

opens up the court. That is it. Andy Murray is through

:10:55.:11:34.

to the semifinal here in the sunshine of Queen's Club. Respect

:11:35.:11:39.

for his younger Davis Cup team-mate, who took a set of him, about an hour

:11:40.:11:46.

and 50 played, one-way traffic. 6-1 in the third. Very much the senior

:11:47.:11:53.

role taken in the decider. Great know-how and expertise at the

:11:54.:11:58.

beginning. He really accelerated through Kyle Edmund and took the

:11:59.:12:03.

first four games in the first 15 minutes of the third set. If Kyle

:12:04.:12:08.

wanted a passage of play back it would certainly be back. Murray is

:12:09.:12:15.

through to play Marin Cilic in the semifinal. We still have 2/4-finals

:12:16.:12:19.

to be played here and hopefully under sunny skies here at Queen's

:12:20.:12:26.

Club. Miller versus Tomic and Bautista-Agut versus Raonic. Should

:12:27.:12:32.

be very proud of his effort here, Edmund. It was very good indeed.

:12:33.:12:43.

Murray has a 10-2 head-to-head, could be Murray in the final. Must

:12:44.:12:47.

get through Cilic first. For the moment he has beaten Kyle Edmund and

:12:48.:12:52.

is talking with John Nvidia. We will speak to both players on court

:12:53.:12:56.

because it is the first quarterfinal between two British players in the

:12:57.:13:00.

history of professional tennis. That is in 50 years, huge testimony to

:13:01.:13:09.

both players. Andy, congratulations. Was that tougher than you might have

:13:10.:13:15.

expected? No, I mean. I obviously train with Kyle a lot. I know how

:13:16.:13:21.

good he is. He is a big, strong guy, very powerful game and when he is on

:13:22.:13:28.

he is very tough to play against at practice and I felt it in the match

:13:29.:13:33.

as well today. I expected it to be hard. What were your thoughts at

:13:34.:13:38.

1-1? I was obviously disappointed with the second, I lost serve at

:13:39.:13:45.

40-0 and then had a couple of break back chances just after that and

:13:46.:13:50.

Kyle served extremely well there and I just try to up my intensity and be

:13:51.:13:55.

more aggressive at the beginning of the set and it worked. You fell a

:13:56.:13:59.

couple of times, obviously it was slippery and mildly amusing with the

:14:00.:14:04.

umpire exchange about that. Are you a cause I'm fine, but obviously it's

:14:05.:14:09.

a shock at first. You don't expect it, it comes out of nowhere. And

:14:10.:14:18.

near fine. Ten years ago you plays Tim Henman and we made a point

:14:19.:14:21.

yesterday about the fact you're playing Aljaz Bedene a comedy first

:14:22.:14:25.

time you played a bridge player for ten years. This last Tim Henman ten

:14:26.:14:29.

years ago is the future in a British tennis is in good hands about you he

:14:30.:14:33.

would have said safe hands, what is your impression of the future of

:14:34.:14:36.

British tennis in however many years when you decide to do something

:14:37.:14:41.

else? Obviously Kyle is the future of the game in this country.

:14:42.:14:51.

APPLAUSE It is important to give him time to

:14:52.:14:56.

develop at his all right, not too much pressure is put on him and he's

:14:57.:15:01.

doing great, he's improving every year and has a really good team

:15:02.:15:06.

behind him, they spent a lot of time with him and they working very hard

:15:07.:15:11.

and they are good guys. If he is given time and space just to keep

:15:12.:15:16.

developing and not too much pressure on the results at this stage, then

:15:17.:15:23.

he can go very far. Many congratulations, you the semifinal

:15:24.:15:26.

against Marin Cilic, repeat of the final three years ago, to prepare

:15:27.:15:30.

for. Thank you. Andy Murray, through another semifinal. And we will move

:15:31.:15:38.

over here. A big hand for Kyle Edmund, who played such a fantastic

:15:39.:15:53.

part in that match! And you are hugely professional athlete and will

:15:54.:15:56.

be disappointed by the result but I hope you are proud of how you

:15:57.:16:00.

played? Yes. I'm pleased with the way I played today, as you said. No

:16:01.:16:06.

one likes losing, but you need time to reflect and it's important you

:16:07.:16:10.

take away the positives. It has been a very positive week from me.

:16:11.:16:15.

Obviously unfortunate with the withdrawal yesterday, but I did well

:16:16.:16:19.

to come to my first round and I thought I played well today. Andy

:16:20.:16:23.

showed why he has been so tough to beat and why he has been at the top

:16:24.:16:28.

of the game for so many years, because he always makes it tough

:16:29.:16:32.

when everything matters. One of the big positives for you must be

:16:33.:16:34.

breaking his serve three times. Not many players do that?

:16:35.:16:39.

APPLAUSE They don't. You don't think about

:16:40.:16:42.

that in the match will concentrate on every point and that is what you

:16:43.:16:45.

try to do, you can't find little ways to break him. It is tricky, but

:16:46.:16:53.

especially on grass, if you do break and you will take your opportunities

:16:54.:16:59.

and luckily I thought at 3-1 when I lost my serve I felt I should have

:17:00.:17:04.

held. But as Andy said from 0- 40, that was a game you don't expect to

:17:05.:17:09.

win but you take it and try and serve it out. I asked what he was

:17:10.:17:12.

thinking at one stage, what were you thinking it 1-1? You just try and

:17:13.:17:19.

think, it is a 0-0, you start again from you haven't got a lead or any

:17:20.:17:24.

breaks. It is one set shoot out and ultimately the first two sets go out

:17:25.:17:31.

and go away because it is one set and Andy, I felt, stepped up a bit

:17:32.:17:35.

and maybe I dropped off a bit but I don't think I dropped off a huge

:17:36.:17:40.

amount. Very positive week and for me to play Andy, here's been so good

:17:41.:17:47.

to me. He has lost three preset -- the last three pre-season is I spend

:17:48.:17:54.

with him come gives me an insight into his professional life and it

:17:55.:17:59.

has benefited me. So, it is a bit strange that I had to play him on

:18:00.:18:03.

the mat because I'm so used to playing on the practice court with

:18:04.:18:07.

him. It is a bit weird how you are looking up to someone and they have

:18:08.:18:11.

to almost hear them as your enemy on the court. Andy has been really good

:18:12.:18:16.

to me, so. One final point. APPLAUSE

:18:17.:18:23.

It was a huge occasion today. Everyone who is seasoned watchers

:18:24.:18:26.

say they could not remember a crowd being so engrossed and engaged in a

:18:27.:18:31.

game for ages. What did it feel like for you being here on Centre Court

:18:32.:18:35.

at Greens playing your idol and the second best player in the world. At

:18:36.:18:40.

one point you had him on the ropes? Yes, the entire occasion of it, I've

:18:41.:18:45.

never played on this court until I played on Wednesday and I loved it.

:18:46.:18:51.

Even though I got the withdrawal yesterday, I was disappointed

:18:52.:18:54.

because I could not come on and play, which is what I wanted to do.

:18:55.:18:57.

Luckily I had a great opportunity today, again -- to come on again.

:18:58.:19:04.

The crowd is great, it is great because the crowd was a port every

:19:05.:19:09.

point. Definitely a week I will remember. You're certainly seize the

:19:10.:19:12.

moment and everyone is on your side. And a big wave going forward at

:19:13.:19:18.

Wimbledon. Kyle Edmund. Well done. We said it would be a test of his

:19:19.:19:25.

nerve and his belief against Andy Murray, he has passed that test and

:19:26.:19:30.

a lovely glimpse into the future of British tennis. Kyle Edmund,

:19:31.:19:33.

certainly want to improve but Andy Murray is going through. He was

:19:34.:19:37.

tested, wouldn't have wanted to be out for three sets but was very

:19:38.:19:39.

impressed by the aggression from Kyle Edmund. Andy Murray's

:19:40.:19:43.

experience and great matchplay brought him through the third and

:19:44.:19:47.

final set. He is through to the semifinal, quite a cut from Jimmy

:19:48.:19:53.

Del Gardai. Not much matter from Ivan Lendl but he will be happy he

:19:54.:19:59.

is to the semifinal. Let's whet your appetite for an event not far away.

:20:00.:20:41.

What a great reaction. You simply cannot give more.

:20:42.:20:59.

That was tense. It is over. This is way too good.

:21:00.:21:13.

He has done it! The Queen of the Centre Court. Unbelievable. He will

:21:14.:21:21.

be walking on water. That really has got us in the mood,

:21:22.:21:43.

what a wonderful team I have here in the studio. Peter Fleming and Boris

:21:44.:21:47.

Becker. Seeing you shuffling your feet when the Championships, great

:21:48.:21:53.

memories, Wimbledon, not far away. No, it always brings back great

:21:54.:21:56.

memories. For me is the important tournament of the year as a player

:21:57.:22:02.

and now as a coach. I look forward to it. What about being here? You

:22:03.:22:06.

were honoured at an court as a four-time champion. This is a

:22:07.:22:09.

special tournament for you. Yes, this is the first one I have one as

:22:10.:22:14.

a player, even know I was a teenager. So this will always be the

:22:15.:22:20.

first one. I've played here for many years. I am a member of the club

:22:21.:22:26.

have come here between tournaments. It was a great day to see the other

:22:27.:22:31.

champions. John and Leighton and Roy. It just shows, it is tough to

:22:32.:22:38.

win that many events because it is always such a good field. Yes, it is

:22:39.:22:45.

very short, you don't have many tournaments to play anyway in the

:22:46.:22:49.

grass court season. This is probably the biggest one for women and so

:22:50.:22:52.

everyone must come here, the courts are good and the weather is always a

:22:53.:23:00.

bit shaky. -- the biggest one before Wimbledon. We saw you on court with

:23:01.:23:04.

the great champions and we had a little conversation with one of

:23:05.:23:09.

them. What were are discussing? I wanted to know how it felt being

:23:10.:23:15.

back on the sidelines. John is coaching row which -- Raonic and I

:23:16.:23:24.

wanted to know, what was his impression from the first practice

:23:25.:23:28.

and so forth? We are friends, by now, we meet each other of the court

:23:29.:23:36.

as well. I do want to get some feedback,. How has the tour changed

:23:37.:23:41.

from when you were champion to now, what the players have to go through?

:23:42.:23:45.

What changes are there? I think obviously because of the world of

:23:46.:23:53.

media were living and the internet, players have to be more careful

:23:54.:23:57.

about whatever they do. Speak about John McEnroe of all people. He was

:23:58.:24:02.

one of these, not best behaved players on the court. With Hawk-Eye

:24:03.:24:08.

today, we spoke about that. He wanted Hawk-Eye in his day, I

:24:09.:24:12.

probably would have argued with the computer as well. That is that way

:24:13.:24:17.

what I said! It would have made him really boring. I think mentality

:24:18.:24:23.

wisely champions will always be the champions, they have the same

:24:24.:24:27.

mindset. It has changed a little bit, the rackets has improved, the

:24:28.:24:32.

shoes have improved, the styles have changed. You seem my baseline now,

:24:33.:24:37.

especially in the grass we come in. Having said that, is to have some

:24:38.:24:42.

feel players around and offensive players and question is how do you

:24:43.:24:46.

pick and choose? But the best players have to play well on all

:24:47.:24:50.

surfaces and be able to be comfortable at the net and serving

:24:51.:24:55.

as well. The ultimate question will always be, who is better on grass?

:24:56.:25:01.

McEnroe Federer? Becker Djokovic? No one can answer that. It is

:25:02.:25:09.

impossible. The role of the super cultures, is it more the mental

:25:10.:25:12.

side? We will ask Boris in a moment, but someone who has been there and

:25:13.:25:16.

done it and knows what England's big points? The match-winning points? I

:25:17.:25:21.

think primarily, Boris said it before, the great champions were

:25:22.:25:26.

always rain regardless of the rules -- will always win. Or the

:25:27.:25:30.

conditions. Sin-bin because of the way they approach every day, every

:25:31.:25:36.

ball, every practice. -- especially because. If a great champion can

:25:37.:25:42.

come and show a few insights to a player and help them reach that

:25:43.:25:48.

level of awareness cover version has done his job. With Novak, does he

:25:49.:25:55.

ask a lot of questions or do you speak to him about tactics? What is

:25:56.:26:00.

your relationship? I think, first of all, he listens. That is not the

:26:01.:26:05.

one. I think it is easier if you have won the Grand Slam. It is

:26:06.:26:11.

easier for John Ivan or me to speak to some of these great players

:26:12.:26:16.

because we have also won something. But that we see -- says the

:26:17.:26:21.

different from the other coaches but it comes from a Wimbledon champion

:26:22.:26:25.

to another champion. We speak about strategy, a little bit about how you

:26:26.:26:28.

have to have a certain mentality and mindset in approach to a semifinal

:26:29.:26:33.

or final because honestly in the first round they don't need us. They

:26:34.:26:38.

would play without anyone. Once you get to the second week of a Grand

:26:39.:26:42.

Slam your inner zone. You live another time clock and unless you've

:26:43.:26:47.

been near you would not understand the time clock. Everything focuses

:26:48.:26:53.

on the next match. That is the understanding and the conversations

:26:54.:26:58.

we have. What has changed with him? He has got better and better over

:26:59.:27:03.

the past couple of years. What do you think, how has he moved from two

:27:04.:27:07.

years ago to now? I think it starts and ends with him. He is the

:27:08.:27:14.

director, the owner, the CEO of a company called Dokovic Inc. He

:27:15.:27:19.

brings it out. If you have a player like that, it is much easier to

:27:20.:27:23.

coach because he wants to get better. And then is easy to work

:27:24.:27:29.

with. I think the trouble is when you speak with people who are happy

:27:30.:27:33.

with being 15 in the world or ten in the world. Then you might as well do

:27:34.:27:39.

something else. To give credit where credit is due, he wants to get

:27:40.:27:43.

better and break records and he wants to be better now than he was

:27:44.:27:47.

last year. What does he want to make better? There are many aspects of

:27:48.:27:51.

his game that has improved the last two or three years. I will not give

:27:52.:27:56.

you many details, but he has gotten better and of course, there is still

:27:57.:28:01.

thinks he needs to improve on. It is endless with him. He doesn't want to

:28:02.:28:07.

improve, nobody can make him. The discipline, speak about that and the

:28:08.:28:11.

commitment he does physically and mentally to improve his game? That

:28:12.:28:20.

is for me, always, I don't know him or Andy or Roger or Rafa, how the

:28:21.:28:25.

year after year believe me they are worth it. They have beautiful homes

:28:26.:28:31.

and families but they work more than 99% of the other players. And they

:28:32.:28:37.

don't have to. I admire that mindset. They are role models for

:28:38.:28:41.

everyone else because they would have all the arguments and say I've

:28:42.:28:45.

had enough. I've won this tournament three times, I have some big minute

:28:46.:28:51.

in the back, no, it want to do it even more. When we are looking at

:28:52.:28:54.

the world rankings, Djokovic is so far ahead in the world rankings, he

:28:55.:28:58.

is so dominant. Is there something wrong with that? You're doing your

:28:59.:29:06.

job very well Boris. Well done. But Boris will not say he's made

:29:07.:29:09.

changes, have you seen any difference in Dragovic? I think he

:29:10.:29:16.

has taken the spot to another level of athleticism. He's like a gymnast

:29:17.:29:20.

out there. It weakens like me is the first I've seen to slide into this

:29:21.:29:24.

two-handed backhand with his slide on his left leg so that he hits it

:29:25.:29:29.

with an open stance and can hit the passing shot either way and can get

:29:30.:29:34.

back into record very quickly that everyone else would have to slice

:29:35.:29:40.

backhand in that situation. -- back into the court. Things like that

:29:41.:29:43.

come is much more aggressive of the forehand and for five years ago is

:29:44.:29:50.

he can attack and defend. He is, in my eyes, I've never seen anyone play

:29:51.:29:54.

better tennis than he is playing right now. He's a bit like Bjorn.

:29:55.:30:00.

Way back when, in the early 70s. I remember hearing Don box, the first

:30:01.:30:05.

guy to ever win the grandson, Donna buds sitting behind me watching

:30:06.:30:08.

Bjorn play. He will never make it. Look at how short the ball is going,

:30:09.:30:13.

he will have tennis elbow in three years. Five years, ten years later,

:30:14.:30:17.

everyone plays like him. He rewrote the book. Novak is doing a bit of

:30:18.:30:20.

that. Is that a fair assessment? When we

:30:21.:30:31.

talk about the greats of the game ap probably that includes everybody, I

:30:32.:30:35.

have never seen a player that plays defence better than Novak. Some of

:30:36.:30:39.

the balls he gets, how he puts defence to offence, it's second to

:30:40.:30:44.

none. That's his core. That's how he was raised upon. What he has added

:30:45.:30:49.

is a bit of aggressiveness, a bit of going for the winners. It's a bit of

:30:50.:30:53.

improvement on the serve. A bit of understanding also that if you win

:30:54.:30:58.

the first couple of matches in a Grand Slam quicker, you still have

:30:59.:31:00.

more energy in a semifinal and final. Don't go always to the -

:31:01.:31:05.

sometimes you have no choice but if you can finish quicker, it saves you

:31:06.:31:09.

at the backhand. It's about winning Grand Slams. You can see what it

:31:10.:31:16.

means. He has - what it means to win a Grand Slam event. He has won now

:31:17.:31:20.

on the clay. I am sure that was a huge relief. He was saying he wanted

:31:21.:31:24.

to win that. It must have been immense pressure in the last few

:31:25.:31:29.

days in Paris? Everybody since the day after the Australian Open asks

:31:30.:31:33.

us about it, naturally. What's the next big one? The next big one is

:31:34.:31:43.

Roland Garos. Every press conference it's pretty much what would it mean

:31:44.:31:49.

to win the French Open? Naturally, the pressure and attention was

:31:50.:31:52.

always on Paris. Yet, you have to get there first. You have to play

:31:53.:31:56.

well in February, in March, in April and May, not to get injured, win a

:31:57.:32:00.

couple of tournaments in between and put yourself in a position as you

:32:01.:32:03.

were last year so when the tournament actually started, I said,

:32:04.:32:08.

oh! Half the journey is done, we have survived pretty good, let's get

:32:09.:32:13.

the real party started. You go match by match in round by round then the

:32:14.:32:17.

weather is difficult, the second week it was unfortunate we always

:32:18.:32:21.

had to play catch-up. Those are the rules. We can't change it now. The

:32:22.:32:25.

weather didn't work in his favour. The weather didn't work in his

:32:26.:32:29.

favour, and then the scheduling for the semifinal, they put him on court

:32:30.:32:33.

number one. Again you have to move it around to say it's an advantage,

:32:34.:32:38.

at least you get to play. I remember last year's semifinal he had to play

:32:39.:32:41.

after Stan and finish on the Saturday. They didn't give him an

:32:42.:32:45.

extra day off. You have to take these odds nobody can change and

:32:46.:32:50.

make them to your advantage and he had Saturday free and practice was

:32:51.:32:54.

good and isn'ted r Sunday morning was good and I had a good sentiment

:32:55.:32:59.

that today would be the day. They were talking to you ever since the

:33:00.:33:02.

Australian Open about the French Open and now everyone is going to

:33:03.:33:06.

ask you, including me, the Grand Slam possibly is on now and everyone

:33:07.:33:11.

is talking about it could be achieved. You look in history at how

:33:12.:33:15.

few have achieved the Grand Slam, that's what everyone is talking

:33:16.:33:20.

about. Technically speaking he has won four Majors in a row that you

:33:21.:33:24.

could call a Grand Slam. For the conservatives, and I am one of

:33:25.:33:28.

them... The calendar Grand Slam. You want to win the four in one year. I

:33:29.:33:35.

could tell you 50% we are there, but that's not the approach. The honest

:33:36.:33:41.

approach is to draw before Wimbledon, he at least knows when he

:33:42.:33:45.

starts on the Monday, that's the one advantage. That's it. That's as far

:33:46.:33:50.

as we look. Then hopefully the match goes on and then hopefully the

:33:51.:33:53.

weather, so we really take it match by match and step by step because

:33:54.:33:57.

otherwise you get carried away. You can't possibly win today, if you

:33:58.:34:00.

think about something you want to do tomorrow. How does he prepare?

:34:01.:34:06.

Everyone is different, he has gone the Bjorg way of not playing an

:34:07.:34:11.

event and it's worked, it must be right, what does he do and where

:34:12.:34:16.

does he go? We do what we have done the last couple of years. He's

:34:17.:34:21.

arriving in London at the weekend but has played already in Monte

:34:22.:34:27.

Carlo and back home. Play a couple of exhibitions in the week prior but

:34:28.:34:32.

very intense practice sessions. I think there's no secret to it. You

:34:33.:34:38.

can only get better once you give yourself chances in practice. Then

:34:39.:34:42.

you should come to some of the practices, I have talk to some of

:34:43.:34:48.

the other players, I think the reason he is consistently good over

:34:49.:34:51.

the years has been he puts everything in the practice. There is

:34:52.:34:57.

no practice that is not intense. He gets frustrated when - no, I want

:34:58.:35:04.

to, even win in the practice! That's mentality becomes reality for him.

:35:05.:35:08.

That's why the practice sessions are so important. Everyone loves

:35:09.:35:12.

history. We saw the numbers, the 12 Grand Slams, potentially he has many

:35:13.:35:17.

more in him. Is that something that drives him, do you think? I think it

:35:18.:35:25.

would be a lie to say that he wouldn't watch the history of

:35:26.:35:32.

tennis. He is away Rafa and Sampras won 14 and he is aware he is

:35:33.:35:38.

passing, does he talk about it every day, absolutely not. He is a student

:35:39.:35:42.

of the game. He wants to be part of the all-time greats. Therefore, he

:35:43.:35:46.

knows who won and how many times. He has set the bar, but Murray is

:35:47.:35:52.

moving up, as well. They've almost become the big two now. Yeah, I

:35:53.:35:57.

would never disrespect Rafa and... No. For a number of reasons you are

:35:58.:36:02.

right. They played the last couple of matches against each other. They

:36:03.:36:07.

played actually the last three tournaments they played against each

:36:08.:36:13.

other in the final. They are one and two in the rankings, naturally they

:36:14.:36:16.

follow each other and I think it's good. The game needs rivalries like

:36:17.:36:21.

that. The game needs strong number one and two for everybody else to

:36:22.:36:25.

look up to. And maybe to learn something from it. But the

:36:26.:36:30.

difference is very close, there isn't much, yes you can see the

:36:31.:36:33.

ranking points but the matches themselves, the difference wasn't

:36:34.:36:36.

that big. Do you think Ivan Lendl back in his corner will make a

:36:37.:36:40.

difference? I was surprised, I must say. I thought Jamie and the whole

:36:41.:36:45.

coaching team did an excellent job. I think he has never played better

:36:46.:36:50.

but something must have happened between the final of Roland Garros

:36:51.:36:58.

and beginning of Queens. Ivan knows a thing or two about winning Majors.

:36:59.:37:04.

They have a great history together. He won Majors with his in his

:37:05.:37:08.

corner. He brings something to the team nobody else has. Before this

:37:09.:37:13.

interview I had a nice chat with Ivan and John together and it was

:37:14.:37:16.

nice that the three of us are back in the locker room talking about the

:37:17.:37:22.

past! It's great for the game. Stars like Ivan and John are back in it.

:37:23.:37:27.

It's good for the quality of tennis. Let's face it, we do understand the

:37:28.:37:33.

game, probably better than most and to talk to Andy and Raonic and Novak

:37:34.:37:39.

about it everybody benefits. It's great rivalries, you want that, the

:37:40.:37:45.

great ones. With Boris and Stefan and Pete and Andre and now hopefully

:37:46.:37:50.

we will see many more Andy and Novak? That's the hope. Boris needs

:37:51.:37:55.

to contribute to that, perhaps so that Andy can win a few more times!

:37:56.:38:03.

So tennis wins! His dedication, we talked about what he does on the

:38:04.:38:06.

court, but off the court the training must be immense but the

:38:07.:38:11.

diet, every part of his life is just about being number one. You don't

:38:12.:38:15.

become number one by accident and don't stay there for years, it's a

:38:16.:38:20.

lifestyle. You don't just wake up and say I want to practise,

:38:21.:38:27.

everything that he does it's in regard to his performance on the

:38:28.:38:32.

court. I think his wife understands that, I think his son is part of

:38:33.:38:36.

that. The rest of his family. We are part of it, whatever he does for as

:38:37.:38:42.

long as he wants to play professional tennis is a dedicated

:38:43.:38:46.

to tennis and that's the only way. I don't see it any other possibility

:38:47.:38:50.

that you can become one or two or five if there is many more important

:38:51.:38:56.

things off the court. That goes for the best football players and best

:38:57.:39:00.

basketball players, it's not an easy job. If it was anybody could do it.

:39:01.:39:05.

But it's a well paid job. To do your passion and call it a job is a

:39:06.:39:10.

dream. I think these boys put a lot of time and effort under. He has

:39:11.:39:17.

made changes in his diet. Gluten-free and now vegetarian with

:39:18.:39:19.

a little bit of fish. Do you follow the diet with him? Well, when I

:39:20.:39:24.

first joined him three years ago I was eating pretty much what I wanted

:39:25.:39:27.

to eat but it felt uncomfortable having a big piece of meat and

:39:28.:39:32.

nobody at the table has... So I started to adjust. I lost a couple

:39:33.:39:37.

of pounds. Now I wouldn't say I do the same diet, but I try to eat

:39:38.:39:42.

better and healthier. It's done me good. What about him? Is that

:39:43.:39:47.

because he was getting the ailments that he went gluten-free, what was

:39:48.:39:52.

the reason? He wanted to feel better. He had trouble with his eyes

:39:53.:39:56.

and that seemed to go once he changed his diet. I think we

:39:57.:40:01.

underestimate the food we take in. We are what we eat. I am not going

:40:02.:40:06.

to give you ten minutes of speech now about good foods but a lot

:40:07.:40:13.

reflects on... We have skrus had chocolate here, we have done all

:40:14.:40:18.

right! On the court playing for hours it does show what you have

:40:19.:40:23.

eaten or drunk the night before. Is he superstitious? Not crazy. I think

:40:24.:40:29.

he has a routine. He has his rhythm. I wouldn't call it a superstition.

:40:30.:40:35.

It's wonderful listening to the insight and how the game has changed

:40:36.:40:39.

over the years. Before it was on practice and on court. Now you have

:40:40.:40:43.

to do everything. The diet, the training. The flexibility. It's

:40:44.:40:50.

become more physical. Because, let's face it, every sport over the years,

:40:51.:40:55.

over decades, improves. The sprinters will be faster than 30

:40:56.:40:59.

years ago, the same with tennis players. These guys are seeking out

:41:00.:41:08.

every little edge. What they know about their performance that just

:41:09.:41:14.

went right over my head and other people of my generation's head is

:41:15.:41:19.

incredible. They are really experts in just about everything. We talked

:41:20.:41:23.

about it already, the mental side of it, you look at players in the top

:41:24.:41:28.

100 they all strike the ball so well. The difference between them,

:41:29.:41:33.

well, you answer it! If it would be just hitting the ball, you would

:41:34.:41:36.

have 1,000 number ones. In the qualifying sometimes I am amazed how

:41:37.:41:39.

quickly these guys play. You put them in front of 1,000 people, they

:41:40.:41:44.

don't know what their name is any more. You know, at a certain level,

:41:45.:41:51.

once you get to the top 100 it's added to the mentality, 75, 80% and

:41:52.:41:57.

then a bit of fitness and this but it's so much what you are willing to

:41:58.:42:01.

do, what is your sacrifice in order to win. You know him so well. If I

:42:02.:42:05.

was going to ask what's the one thing and the most important thing

:42:06.:42:10.

that makes him better than the others what would it be? I think he

:42:11.:42:14.

wants it more, deep down, the heritage he is from. The family

:42:15.:42:18.

background. He suffered a lot. He went through hell and back when he

:42:19.:42:27.

was ten, 12, 14 and I think when the core comes out in a Wimbledon final,

:42:28.:42:30.

he goes further every time. Brilliant. It's been lovely talking

:42:31.:42:34.

to you, Boris. Thank you very much for coming up and good luck over the

:42:35.:42:37.

next few weeks. You are going to be busy. Peter, thank you very much.

:42:38.:42:43.

Going from Boris, we will go to John McEnroe's charges on court at the

:42:44.:42:49.

moment, Milos Raonic and there he is, the big serving Canadian and

:42:50.:42:53.

John has been trying to get him to attack more. We will see whether it

:42:54.:42:59.

happens in this match. He is playing Roberto Bautista-Agut. It's 3-0 up.

:43:00.:43:05.

Let's join our comentators John Lloyd and Andrew Kroter. -- Cotter.

:43:06.:43:14.

Great listening to Boris there. A good start by Raonic, breaking

:43:15.:43:21.

Bautista in the last service game. Raonic had a Rocky start, as well in

:43:22.:43:26.

his first service game. He came through.

:43:27.:43:31.

Everyone is just about in their seats now.

:43:32.:43:52.

Nicely done. Bautista, who is already in action today, was

:43:53.:44:02.

completing his second round match against Donald Young, wrapping it up

:44:03.:44:06.

in the second set very quickly and played one set yesterday and one

:44:07.:44:07.

this morning. Beautifully finished off by Roberto

:44:08.:45:34.

Bautista. He has joined the match, Bautista.

:45:35.:45:39.

He was a little bit out of sorts at the beginning there. Played a poor

:45:40.:45:42.

game to lose his serve. Looked a little bit flat. Maybe playing a

:45:43.:45:48.

second match, hasn't got fired up yet, but unfortunately with when you

:45:49.:45:53.

lose an early break to Milos Raonic you can almost certainly have lost

:45:54.:45:58.

the first set, or a set, it's not 100%, but it's right up there. He

:45:59.:46:05.

has not been broken in these Championships yet.

:46:06.:46:19.

It's something that Sue mentioned that he has said, Raonic, what he is

:46:20.:46:25.

looking for and what McEnroe wants him to do is to be more aggressive

:46:26.:46:31.

earlier in points, make his presence felt and impose himself.

:46:32.:46:54.

Not sure if he meant that. Shuffled it over. We will give him the

:46:55.:47:00.

benefit of the doubt and say it was an exceptional shot. Don't think he

:47:01.:47:06.

meant that to be the angle, that extreme.

:47:07.:47:19.

That's the big weapon right there, that forehand of his. He gets good

:47:20.:47:31.

pace off it. That doesn't look healthy. There is little drizzle

:47:32.:47:36.

forecast but it's not meant to last too long.

:47:37.:47:50.

Backs up that break of serve. He is keen to extend his partnership with

:47:51.:47:58.

McEnroe beyond the end of Wimbledon and the grass court season but he

:47:59.:48:05.

knows that McEnroe is a busy man and has other commitments and that's the

:48:06.:48:10.

problem with these super court chasers, they are busy and have

:48:11.:48:14.

limited time. They can't be a coach with you for the whole season, week

:48:15.:48:20.

in, week out. No, I was talking about John Mac today about Raonic

:48:21.:48:23.

and he was saying that he is enjoying it but it's more of a

:48:24.:48:29.

mental side, rather than actual technique of hitting the ball. It's

:48:30.:48:35.

just about what he needs to do. About being more aggressive. A few

:48:36.:48:42.

spots of rain on our commentary box window and Raonic is perhaps using

:48:43.:48:52.

the word drizzle in there somewhere. Fergus Murphy studying the skies

:48:53.:48:59.

with the rest of us. Definitely comes from up there! They

:49:00.:49:04.

can play through a bit of drizzle as we stressed before, it just is

:49:05.:49:09.

holding the players at the moment, I think. Certainly a few brollies are

:49:10.:49:15.

sprouting. The head groundsman doesn't look too bored.

:49:16.:49:23.

It's getting heavier now. Stand by your beds!

:49:24.:49:34.

We have been fortunate to get as much tennis as we have without any

:49:35.:49:43.

interruptions with the forecast. You want these quarter-finals to get

:49:44.:49:48.

through so the tournament can get back to being on schedule. UMPIRE:

:49:49.:49:51.

Ladies and gentlemen, play is suspended. There we are the words we

:49:52.:49:55.

have heard many times over the years here and at Wimbledon. We are

:49:56.:49:58.

rattling through the matches. We are perhaps making more progress today

:49:59.:50:01.

than we thought. I am sure we will again after this shower. It's not

:50:02.:50:08.

supposed to last too long. Mac is a man on a mission. The nets coming

:50:09.:50:12.

down. The players are staying out there

:50:13.:50:16.

just now. Maybe being kept in a holding pattern.

:50:17.:50:22.

The covers are coming on. The players are off. He is staying out

:50:23.:50:30.

there. Raonic is leaving. The umpire is leaving. It might just

:50:31.:50:34.

be Bautista on the court on his own in a few minutes. He is a break

:50:35.:50:39.

down. Might be of benefit for him to go

:50:40.:50:43.

off because he started off slowly in this match and didn't look like he

:50:44.:50:46.

was a part of it until he held that one service game. Until then he

:50:47.:50:52.

looked out of sorts. Maybe he will go into the locker room and get

:50:53.:50:56.

reenergised and fired up a little bit more. What do you do? You think

:50:57.:51:00.

this is not going to be a long delay so what do you do? Go to the lounge

:51:01.:51:06.

or the locker room and keep loose? It depends, they'll be told right

:51:07.:51:09.

away about how long they're expected. If it's over a certain

:51:10.:51:14.

time they'll go in the locker room at the start, maybe change shirts

:51:15.:51:17.

and have their coach with them and talk about what's happened at the

:51:18.:51:21.

start and have a drink or whatever and not a hard drink, obviously! And

:51:22.:51:26.

then just depends, then you have to judge how long it's going to be,

:51:27.:51:30.

whether you get food again, all that kind of stuff comes into it. At the

:51:31.:51:35.

beginning it will be just going in there and listening to the coach a

:51:36.:51:39.

little bit and refocussing. Raonic obviously didn't want to come off

:51:40.:51:42.

court. He doesn't want it to be raining, obviously, but he was in a

:51:43.:51:46.

good position there and was playing well. Momentum was with him. We have

:51:47.:51:52.

two quarter-finals remaining. This one with Bautista and Raonic. Then

:51:53.:51:58.

Muller from Luxembourg and Tomic, the Australian, that's supposed to

:51:59.:52:02.

be the last match up. They may move that. I am still optimistic they'll

:52:03.:52:06.

get to play. It's raining more heavily now. We will leave you and

:52:07.:52:12.

return when the players return with Raonic a break up on Bautista-Agut.

:52:13.:52:17.

Thank you very much, Andrew. Looking at the weather that's coming when

:52:18.:52:21.

this big cloud does finally go over us there will be some more play

:52:22.:52:25.

today. Hopefully more live tennis to come

:52:26.:52:28.

particularly here on BBC Two before we head off to the red button.

:52:29.:52:34.

Andrew has joined Peter and I here. The happiest person probably in the

:52:35.:52:38.

locker room right now is Andy Murray seeing this rain. He has got the job

:52:39.:52:43.

done before the rain. That's. What a first 15 minutes of the deciding

:52:44.:52:48.

set. You can't just decide to hit fourth or fifth gear but he knows

:52:49.:52:52.

how to do it because he is vastly experienced. He stamped his

:52:53.:53:02.

authority on the match. It was a - he got through it. Kyle did very

:53:03.:53:08.

well. When Andy elevates, it's like a hovercraft taking off. He is very

:53:09.:53:15.

hard to play up the pace, made lesserers and showed Kyle where he

:53:16.:53:17.

is still. Interesting match for a lot of reasons. Murray had his

:53:18.:53:23.

moments. Some brilliant points that just made the difference. How many

:53:24.:53:28.

times have we seen Andy Murray hitting passing shots, forehand down

:53:29.:53:34.

the line, cross-court. Puts so many returns into play. Oh!

:53:35.:53:40.

He got the break of serve with that one. We should have shown that to

:53:41.:53:45.

Boris, he would have been proud of that. He would have been more in the

:53:46.:53:50.

air. 17 you can do that, 29 maybe not. Great effort from Murray. Kyle

:53:51.:53:57.

did well on the attack and starts eking off on the forehand. That was

:53:58.:54:01.

from the deciding set, I believe. This is where Andy stamps his

:54:02.:54:05.

authority. It's about a willpower and presence. 29-year-old against a

:54:06.:54:09.

21-year-old, there is a Gulf in terms of the authority they bring to

:54:10.:54:14.

the court. Perfect litmus test for where Kyle is in the game. He is

:54:15.:54:21.

going places, for sure. He had his moments too. Big forehand. Huge

:54:22.:54:27.

forehand. It's world-class, his forehand. His backhand has improved

:54:28.:54:35.

immensely. The further improvement in Kyle, and the first serve was

:54:36.:54:41.

quite good, maybe not as effective as it could be. He is a big guy. The

:54:42.:54:48.

improvement in Kyle, here is him attacking.

:54:49.:54:53.

So many good things in the attacking side of the game. He wasn't afraid

:54:54.:54:57.

to have a go. He knew he had to have a go. He had to attack Murray. This

:54:58.:55:02.

is exactly the time in his career, 21 years of age, when he has to take

:55:03.:55:06.

it on and square up to these guys and say I am ready for it. That's

:55:07.:55:11.

what he is doing. His progress, if you look at it, is steady. He's come

:55:12.:55:16.

through the challengers and won a lot of them. That forehand, at this

:55:17.:55:23.

level the margins are more slight. You have to be better but he is

:55:24.:55:25.

making improvements and doing the work. He has so many people in his

:55:26.:55:32.

camp now that take care of every single bit of his existence but he

:55:33.:55:35.

is the one who has to do the work and he is not afraid of that. He is

:55:36.:55:40.

a big strong lad. Much bigger in real life than he looks on the

:55:41.:55:45.

tennis court. He enjoyed the big occasion, to produce your best on

:55:46.:55:47.

the stage like this against one of the world's best. He did enjoy it.

:55:48.:55:52.

It was telling at the start of the third set as and drew was saying

:55:53.:55:59.

when Andy raised it up a gear, Kyle kind of shrunk a little bit and

:56:00.:56:05.

couldn't match him. Not many can. Interesting, our conversation with

:56:06.:56:09.

Boris earlier, when he said I believe that Djokovic wants it more

:56:10.:56:16.

than anyone else. I think there is also an intangible there that people

:56:17.:56:23.

don't quite realise and I remember when Boris first played his first

:56:24.:56:29.

Wimbledon final, aged 17. The moment is indelible in my mind, when

:56:30.:56:34.

someone threw him the ball and he played keepy-uppy with it on the

:56:35.:56:38.

Centre Court. 17 years old, are you kidding me! It was like his living

:56:39.:56:43.

room. This is me, this is where I live! That's what the great

:56:44.:56:48.

champions have. They have this self-belief, this feeling of

:56:49.:56:53.

belonging, of what's the big deal? Wimbledon final, so what? And that's

:56:54.:56:59.

where players like Kyle have to somehow manage to bridge that gap.

:57:00.:57:03.

Off camera I asked Boris what he thought of Kyle Edmund and he said

:57:04.:57:07.

he has to change the serve. You agree? Well, his serve is quite

:57:08.:57:13.

good. It's a powerful serve. There is something in the action that robs

:57:14.:57:19.

him of a bit of power. I don't think it's as accurate as it will be, as

:57:20.:57:24.

it needs to be, because that's interesting when we used to serve

:57:25.:57:27.

and volley you knew you had to hit the lines or hit close to the lines,

:57:28.:57:32.

because then if you didn't you would be in trouble. Now because everyone

:57:33.:57:37.

stays back they don't necessarily hit the lines as often. Because they

:57:38.:57:45.

hit a big serve and stand back and hit huge forehands and yet if you

:57:46.:57:51.

are going to be a great, the - one of the reasons Djokovic has improved

:57:52.:57:57.

so much is his first serve, it's so accurate and powerful enough he wins

:57:58.:58:02.

a lot of free points. Kyle's not going to be a great. I don't see him

:58:03.:58:06.

as a Grand Slam winner. He can certainly make himself a part of the

:58:07.:58:09.

argument into round three, four, maybe a quarter-final. Let me ask

:58:10.:58:15.

you something. What did you think Ferrer would be, the first four,

:58:16.:58:21.

five years he came on tour? Ranked 40, 50, 60. He was always going to

:58:22.:58:25.

be a journeyman player and suddenly, oh! How good is he? I know.

:58:26.:58:29.

Absolutely. Good point. Because it's raining we are going to come off air

:58:30.:58:33.

for a while here on BBC Two. We will be back later, hopefully, to bring

:58:34.:58:37.

you some more live tennis. It is looking brighter over there. We will

:58:38.:58:40.

bring you an update in about half an hour's time. The headlines here

:58:41.:58:45.

today, we have been talking about Andy Murray, he went through against

:58:46.:58:49.

Britain's 21-year-old Kyle Edmund in three sets. He will be on court

:58:50.:58:55.

tomorrow in the semifinals to face former champion Marin Cilic. That's

:58:56.:58:57.

tomorrow. Hopefully we will have more tennis for you later this

:58:58.:59:01.

evening. If so, do join us. We will be back in about half

:59:02.:59:02.
