Hello and welcome to highlights of week three of the Rugby league World

:00:41.:00:45.

Cup. This weekend sees the final round of group matches and for some

:00:46.:00:48.

teams it is make or break time. Here is what is coming up. Italy take on

:00:49.:00:54.

Tonga, knowing a win will take them through to the quarterfinals.

:00:55.:00:59.

Ireland had a tough task in Limerick as they faced favourites Australia.

:01:00.:01:06.

Wales were looking to finish their World Cup campaign with a win

:01:07.:01:10.

against the Cook Islands. We will reflect on England's ultimately

:01:11.:01:15.

dominant victory against Fiji. And we will pay tribute to Steve

:01:16.:01:19.

Prescott, who passed away yesterday after a long will this. We are

:01:20.:01:23.

joined by another top-class trio of rugby league talent tonight but I am

:01:24.:01:26.

guessing that Bill Crabtree and Robbie Hunter Paul have probably had

:01:27.:01:31.

a less stressful day that the Scotland coach Steve McCormack and

:01:32.:01:34.

we will start tonight with the match that would decide Scotland's fate in

:01:35.:01:38.

the competition. It was the final game in group C, with Italy taking

:01:39.:01:39.

on Tonga in Halifax. Scotland needed Italy to beat Tonga

:01:40.:01:53.

if they were to go through. They had suffered a night -- -- narrow defeat

:01:54.:01:58.

in their opening group match. A win against the Cook Islands gave them a

:01:59.:02:01.

glimmer of hope before it was snuffed out by Scotland's defeat of

:02:02.:02:06.

the USA. A win by the narrowest of margins with the Italy go through at

:02:07.:02:11.

the expense of Scotland. An opening day win over my -- Wales backed up

:02:12.:02:15.

by an entertaining win against Scotland methods they stood on the

:02:16.:02:19.

edge of the quarterfinals on their debut in the court -- in the

:02:20.:02:20.

tournament. COMMENTATOR:

:02:21.:02:32.

What a great reception the two teams get. What a fabulous venue this is

:02:33.:02:36.

and what a great day for the club for Halifax to show off their

:02:37.:02:44.

ground. Let's go in and confirm aside from Tonga.

:02:45.:03:01.

15 minutes away from the Tonga line and this could be the chance for

:03:02.:03:30.

points. It is so tight at the moment, no score through 22

:03:31.:03:36.

minutes. Can they get some sort of results? There is a chance, it comes

:03:37.:03:40.

loose. A brilliant ball, Italy have it.

:03:41.:03:52.

Cameron Ciraldo has got it over the top. They will check it with the

:03:53.:04:00.

video referee. This is incredible. The line markings are not that

:04:01.:04:05.

distinct here but there is enough seem to prove that it is an inch

:04:06.:04:14.

from scoring. It has ended up huge tackle to prevent him from scoring.

:04:15.:04:21.

A big mistake, ten minutes out from their line, straight from the

:04:22.:04:28.

scrum. A dark moment for the Italian side and the winger.

:04:29.:04:36.

There are plenty of big boys out there.

:04:37.:04:47.

A great tackle by the Italians. The clean-up men come across. They had

:04:48.:04:58.

to bring people with them from the crowd because he is in.

:04:59.:05:08.

We have a penalty to Tonga. It will be the last play of the half.

:05:09.:05:44.

James Tedesco may have been held up as well, there is no celebrations

:05:45.:06:13.

from the Italians. James Tedesco has found that afterburners their, but

:06:14.:06:24.

may not have grounded the footy. No try is the call. It is so tense.

:06:25.:06:30.

Still no tries here. He has got it there, or did he lose

:06:31.:06:58.

it? Here we go again. He is celebrating, he reckons he has got

:06:59.:07:05.

this down. He has still got a good grip on it there and that is down,

:07:06.:07:09.

that is a try. Get ready from the cheer from the supporters from

:07:10.:07:14.

Tonga. I can hear the Scottish players screaming their heads off!

:07:15.:07:22.

He scatters a few blue jumpers all over the place, here's getting a one

:07:23.:07:30.

on one opportunity, beats him and gets the ball down.

:07:31.:07:50.

I can see three of his ribs out on the grass! Someone picked them up.

:07:51.:07:56.

Cook them and have them with barbecue sauce. What a tackle on

:07:57.:07:59.

Cameron Ciraldo. Mark Minichiello that time and Tonga

:08:00.:08:07.

is away. 20 metres away from the Italian

:08:08.:08:41.

line, dazzling play. What happened there? Just lost it.

:08:42.:08:47.

19 minutes away from the line, Italy's turn to defend. They trail

:08:48.:08:50.

by 8-0. They still haven't come -- they

:08:51.:09:14.

still have a couple of tackles left here.

:09:15.:09:23.

He is stretched out, they reckon they have a triple movement. He has

:09:24.:09:33.

given the try. It has gone to Daniel Foster. I have never seen many

:09:34.:09:39.

Jell-o blow up like that in his long career. That is the passion in the

:09:40.:09:47.

guy, the emotion. Foster does really well here. Close to the line with 90

:09:48.:09:52.

seconds to go. The captain of the Roosters has got

:09:53.:10:07.

him! If it is the strip, it is a try.

:10:08.:10:31.

Hand on the ball. That is pulled away, stolen. No, it comes clean

:10:32.:10:39.

away and hits the head accidentally. Hits the head accidentally, that is

:10:40.:10:42.

play on. Just a grounding, please. That is a try. They are going to say

:10:43.:10:49.

try here. I can't agree with the decision at all. We could discuss it

:10:50.:10:56.

over a pint later. They get the try, Tonga. Scotland are into the

:10:57.:11:06.

quarterfinals. We made it hard for ourselves. That first half

:11:07.:11:09.

especially I don't think we stuck to what we do best. All credit to the

:11:10.:11:12.

Tongan team. Every game is worth fighting for in

:11:13.:11:21.

the World Cup and they have proven that today. Probably the best side

:11:22.:11:24.

one and the best side is going to the quarterfinals in Scotland. I am

:11:25.:11:29.

proud of the boys and the way they responded. That is what the Marc

:11:30.:11:34.

Thomas spirit is all about. The boys did it defensively and I am very

:11:35.:11:40.

proud. Confirmation that Scotland are top of group C through to the

:11:41.:11:43.

quarterfinals. Many congratulations, Steve. You watched

:11:44.:11:47.

that game together. What was the atmosphere like and what was the

:11:48.:11:50.

atmosphere like when you knew how you had gone through? Exceptional,

:11:51.:11:54.

the lads have one exception -- works hard. Watching a game where you have

:11:55.:12:00.

no input, the pressure is off you and when the final try was given by

:12:01.:12:03.

the video referee, the place erupted, as you can see. And burst

:12:04.:12:09.

into song, they have good voice. It is, we do the Flower Of Scotland so

:12:10.:12:13.

that is the first time we have done it one we have won the game. It is a

:12:14.:12:18.

special occasion to get through to a quarterfinal. They are magnificent

:12:19.:12:24.

and I am proud of them. It all became -- you presumably became Don

:12:25.:12:30.

-- Tongans for the day. You owe a debt of gratitude to Suey Fuifui

:12:31.:12:39.

Moimoi. He was superb. We had a fantastic game against them in

:12:40.:12:41.

Workington but he is a great player. Look at the size of him, his

:12:42.:12:46.

carries, he is knocking three, four, five defenders off. You would not

:12:47.:12:54.

mind running into him, would you? ! He was like the size of a caravan

:12:55.:12:59.

but now he has got bigger! He is the size of a house! He is huge. He

:13:00.:13:05.

causes destruction everywhere. I live at the end he gives him a pat

:13:06.:13:11.

on the back, big hair, coming at him 1 million miles an hour, a lot of

:13:12.:13:16.

energy from Fuifui Moimoi. I am guessing it poses problems because

:13:17.:13:20.

quite a few of your guys have jobs. On Friday morning after the USA game

:13:21.:13:24.

I went into Warrington College and asked my boss, maybe another week

:13:25.:13:30.

off, we have Josh Barlow who is fitting fireplaces on Monday and

:13:31.:13:33.

Tuesday before we played the Kiwis. It is a fantastic story. We have

:13:34.:13:37.

part-time players, Super League players and championship players and

:13:38.:13:41.

they have all come together and worked exceptionally hard and

:13:42.:13:46.

performed. We talked about Danny Brough and how key he was due last

:13:47.:13:50.

week but Matthew Russell at fullback has had a fantastic tournament,

:13:51.:13:57.

hasn't he? He has come up with some little bits of magic. His positional

:13:58.:14:02.

play, he's like a pinball machine, you just cannot tackle him. I am

:14:03.:14:07.

pleased for him. He had a great career at Wigan. He could not get in

:14:08.:14:11.

the team because of Sam Tomkins. He had a loan spell at Hull, then he

:14:12.:14:15.

has come back and what a fantastic World Cup he has had. He knows how

:14:16.:14:20.

to score. Quite a few individual tries. And long-distance tries as

:14:21.:14:27.

well, 30 metre tries. He has got that ability to bounce off players.

:14:28.:14:34.

He's tough and quick. He has been a revelation for us in this World Cup.

:14:35.:14:40.

An easy game, champions New Zealand in the quarterfinals! We will be

:14:41.:14:46.

back in training tomorrow morning. What a great opportunity. The

:14:47.:14:50.

players have earned the right to play against the Kiwis. Probably the

:14:51.:14:55.

biggest challenge in sport, foamy. The board champions, the Kiwis, a

:14:56.:14:59.

fantastic team, but we will have a good crack at them. In group A,

:15:00.:15:05.

Australia took on Ireland in Limerick with Pat Bridges playing

:15:06.:15:09.

his last match before heading home down under. The Australians have

:15:10.:15:13.

lived up to their billing as tournament favourites, with an

:15:14.:15:19.

unbeaten 11 match run. Victory here would see Australia topping group A,

:15:20.:15:23.

and rewarded with a match against the quarterfinals. Two defeats in

:15:24.:15:32.

the group stages meant it was almost impossible for I went to progress.

:15:33.:15:36.

They failed to score and then into mass match for the first time

:15:37.:15:40.

against England and face a tougher test against Australia.

:15:41.:15:45.

This is the moment, Australia and Ireland. Cameron Smith leading his

:15:46.:15:56.

team out, in this World Cup. And confirming the Irish side for

:15:57.:16:16.

tonight. Individually, Ireland have some fine

:16:17.:16:44.

talents. Some slick work going through the gap, and straightaway,

:16:45.:16:56.

the kangaroos have the first try. Jarryd Hayne, Australia coming up

:16:57.:17:04.

with a try inside 90 seconds. I thought they had moved a little bit

:17:05.:17:08.

too early, but the full-back, Simon Grix was not able to come over and

:17:09.:17:14.

take him across the sideline. They scored inside 90 seconds. We are now

:17:15.:17:19.

in the 11th minute and they have not missed a tackle. Australia just five

:17:20.:17:30.

away, as you can see. And the Australian halfback has scored. A

:17:31.:17:41.

second try for the Kangaroos and it has gone to Cooper Cronk. Good speed

:17:42.:17:47.

and only seven metres out, just help over the line. Australia, inside the

:17:48.:17:57.

eye and 20, still only two tries posted in 28 minutes. Gerry Evans,

:17:58.:18:10.

there is the third try, what a pass from Gerry Evans. What a ball that

:18:11.:18:24.

was. Australia finally get it right and spread themselves across to the

:18:25.:18:31.

right hand side. Taking a little pressure from the Irish defence, and

:18:32.:18:41.

opening up the hall. -- hole. The feeder with them all, dummying. --

:18:42.:18:48.

with the ball. And Australia have gone over. Brett

:18:49.:19:11.

Morris scores a try. It is 20-0, to the Aussies. The ducks out of the

:19:12.:19:20.

dummy half and gets the ricochet. And Gerry Evans, back-to-back. There

:19:21.:19:24.

is no brotherly love. Brent says to Josh, I was shown and then I'll go.

:19:25.:19:28.

-- I will show. Slater, the dummy from Slater, and

:19:29.:19:50.

off he goes. Billy Slater. Another test drive for Australia. And he has

:19:51.:19:58.

got plenty, don't worry about that. Cooper Cronk passed the ball. They

:19:59.:20:03.

get this defence going sideways, and I love the way that Billy Slater

:20:04.:20:07.

just holds himself up, he knows that the line is coming, just half a

:20:08.:20:12.

second, and the lying appears right in front of him, and he just gets

:20:13.:20:18.

down. The kangaroos 22 metres from the line. And a switch of play from

:20:19.:20:22.

miles to Cooper Cronk. And Cooper Cronk is straight

:20:23.:20:37.

through. Weaving his way through to score. You have got the decision to

:20:38.:20:51.

make, Phil Bentham, sending this one upstairs. The decision is going to

:20:52.:21:01.

come through that it is a try to Australia. Number six of the night,

:21:02.:21:13.

and Cooper Cronk has a double. He looks up to the right, he is going

:21:14.:21:20.

to go left. Lays it off to cherry Evans. And that makes three test

:21:21.:21:36.

tries in three tests. For Cherry Evans.

:21:37.:21:54.

He was almost away, good tackle. 11 yards from the line. No one more

:21:55.:22:08.

stop him now. Andrew Fifita has a try for Australia, and he

:22:09.:22:17.

celebrates. He married the day before the Kangaroos departed. And

:22:18.:22:18.

here he is scoring at Limerick. He has gone close a couple of times

:22:19.:22:35.

now. And another try for the Kangaroos. At Thomond Park,

:22:36.:22:44.

Limerick, Australia 50- nil over Ireland. We have been lucky enough

:22:45.:22:50.

to win all three all matches, it is a good building platform for the

:22:51.:22:54.

rest of the tournament so hopefully we can keep on improving. We were

:22:55.:23:00.

certainly having a big, and that is what we asked them to do, coming to

:23:01.:23:07.

Limerick, coming to Thomond Park, I think that they can walk off with

:23:08.:23:14.

their heads held high. What have you made of the USA, have you seen any

:23:15.:23:19.

of their games? They have been the surprise package. We will have to be

:23:20.:23:26.

on our game. Anything can happen. Australia finishing top of group A.

:23:27.:23:32.

You were purring, watching some of those tries.

:23:33.:23:38.

They make every player really work for everything that they ever do,

:23:39.:23:43.

defensively. This typifies it. All day long, you have got to deal with

:23:44.:23:51.

them. Creating space on the outside with Billy Slater coming round on

:23:52.:23:56.

the edge. Liam Finn checks, Then it is a foot race for Billy Slater to

:23:57.:24:03.

get to the try line, and Billy Slater is going to get to the try

:24:04.:24:09.

line every single times. Cherry-Evans has played fabulously.

:24:10.:24:13.

This is the strength of the Australian team. Not only can they

:24:14.:24:18.

play well with an obstructive pattern, but they can do it

:24:19.:24:22.

individually as well, and this just personifies what they have got to

:24:23.:24:29.

offer. Put your sues -- shoes in their -- put your selves in the

:24:30.:24:35.

shoes of Terry Matheson. He will be concentrating on his own team. They

:24:36.:24:40.

have got to the final playing some fantastic rugby. You have got to

:24:41.:24:44.

look at that play from Billy Slater. They have got some fantastic

:24:45.:24:48.

individuals. The focus will be on what they can do well and how they

:24:49.:24:52.

can perform and maximise their potential as a team. They are full

:24:53.:24:57.

of stars, Australia, but they play so well as a unit, and the forwards

:24:58.:25:04.

create space. They are so clinical and what they do, and everyone has a

:25:05.:25:08.

certain role within the team. They create space out wide through the

:25:09.:25:11.

different players, and if they find themselves in trouble, the likes of

:25:12.:25:17.

Cherry-Evans just kicks the ball so precisely and solves the problem.

:25:18.:25:24.

Occasionally, they can make mistakes and that is where you have got to

:25:25.:25:28.

catch them out. How would you beat them? It is about doing the right

:25:29.:25:33.

things within your own team. We have shown it with the England team, we

:25:34.:25:38.

were the stronger team and they started making mistakes. As soon as

:25:39.:25:42.

you start making mistakes, they get back into the game. Control the

:25:43.:25:48.

ball, control the game. Three tries for three games for Cherry-Evans,

:25:49.:25:53.

and they are so strong that he will be sitting on the bench. They have

:25:54.:25:56.

this conveyor belt of talent coming through. More than any other players

:25:57.:26:02.

coming through, putting pressure on what you would consider the starting

:26:03.:26:07.

Australian stars than any younger players have, for a number of years.

:26:08.:26:11.

I would not be surprised if they rolled the dice and put him in.

:26:12.:26:16.

There was pride to play for in Neath. Wales took on the cook

:26:17.:26:23.

islands, with both teams looking for their first victory of the

:26:24.:26:23.

tournament. Time out on the left side. Joining

:26:24.:26:38.

the attack from full-back. And getting down that enter quite some

:26:39.:26:42.

time. And have the Cook Islands got in? Yes, they have. The referee

:26:43.:26:50.

confirms it. The Cook Islands have had a lot of pressure early on in

:26:51.:26:53.

this game and they are the first to score.

:26:54.:27:01.

And Wales get a man over in the corner, Christian Rowett. Still a

:27:02.:27:17.

couple of tackles remaining. The ball spinning out through Isaac.

:27:18.:27:23.

Again, Keith Mooney is going to charge down for the corner. The

:27:24.:27:27.

second try of the game for the Cook Islands. Napper checks his run.

:27:28.:27:43.

And the drive-through, and there is Isaac John, with the third try for

:27:44.:27:53.

the Cook Islands. He made it look ever so easy. Still, tackles

:27:54.:27:59.

remaining in this set. Spreading the play, through John, and then the

:28:00.:28:09.

second row, looks like he has got the ball down, it has taken them

:28:10.:28:15.

five minutes of the second half, and the Cook Islands have got on the

:28:16.:28:22.

scoreboard again. The Welsh driving towards the line, rolling on with

:28:23.:28:29.

Ben Flower. Back to Lupton. He cannot quite get there. The Welsh

:28:30.:28:35.

have woken up. One metre from the line. Driving through, and the gap

:28:36.:28:42.

has opened up, unconventional, maybe, but they don't care. The

:28:43.:28:46.

Welsh have got some points in the second half. This is a good set for

:28:47.:28:53.

the Welsh. Keeping the ball going with Ben Flower. Ever so close.

:28:54.:29:04.

Lupton, And there it is, Christian Rowett, for the Welsh. There is

:29:05.:29:13.

support, and it goes over in the corner, Lloyd, his second try of

:29:14.:29:19.

this Rugby league World Cup, 2013. He sticks it as high as he can. They

:29:20.:29:35.

have got space as the Cook Islands and are charging through. We will

:29:36.:29:44.

have a look at this one. That is a challenge, that is OK. It is off the

:29:45.:29:52.

Welsh hand, this will be a try. We are going to the screen now. The

:29:53.:29:59.

Cook Islands have nudged themselves six points ahead.

:30:00.:30:06.

They have got extra runners on the right-hand side. They are away.

:30:07.:30:18.

A disappointing end to Wales' rugby league campaign. On Saturday the sad

:30:19.:30:36.

news came through that Steve Prescott had died. He won the league

:30:37.:30:40.

and cup double with his home-town club St Helens before going on to

:30:41.:30:45.

play for Hull FC and Wakefield. He represented England and Ireland.

:30:46.:30:49.

After being diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer in 2006, he

:30:50.:30:55.

set about raising more than half ?1 million for charities. He was

:30:56.:30:57.

awarded the MBE for his fundraising and services to rugby league -- he

:30:58.:31:04.

raised more than ?500,000 for charities. In 2006, I was diagnosed

:31:05.:31:09.

with a rare form of stomach cancer and given months to live. Five or

:31:10.:31:16.

six years later, I am running marathons and Jerry -- doing

:31:17.:31:19.

endurance events. You take each day as it comes and keep going and get

:31:20.:31:24.

on with life. To do what he has done is beyond belief. It is superhuman.

:31:25.:31:29.

I can't understand how he managed to do it, but he did. You have cycled

:31:30.:31:35.

through France and London and rode the Atlantic and won the marathon

:31:36.:31:39.

and tell us what time you did? I got a new personal best in the London

:31:40.:31:43.

Marathon, I can't believe it. We have rewritten the running manual,

:31:44.:31:48.

training preparation for a marathon. We rode the date thiss the day

:31:49.:31:53.

before we run the London Marathon, we wrote the Atlantic. He is so

:31:54.:32:00.

inspirational, lesser people would have dealt with it differently but

:32:01.:32:08.

Steve fought and fought. He is a huge inspiration to everybody and

:32:09.:32:10.

will be sadly missed. A brilliant rugby league player, we will

:32:11.:32:17.

remember him for the achievements and the good he has created for

:32:18.:32:20.

everybody else. COMMENTATOR:

:32:21.:32:27.

Oh, he has just pushed him to touch, and magnificent run from

:32:28.:32:36.

Prescott. He has pace oozing out of his boots. Cancer hospitals need

:32:37.:32:40.

help and support so I chose the Christie Hospital. It needs people

:32:41.:32:48.

like us to promote it and expand. I had to do something for rugby league

:32:49.:32:53.

because it has been my life. My dad played rugby as well. I want to help

:32:54.:32:57.

other people. We can help them and it is all worth it. It was the

:32:58.:33:04.

measure of the man that the crowd at Holt broke into spontaneous applause

:33:05.:33:08.

during the minute's silence, a true legend of the game remembered.

:33:09.:33:09.

APPLAUSE It was incredibly emotional at Hull

:33:10.:33:50.

and with all the incredible charity work, you could almost forget what a

:33:51.:33:55.

great player he was. He was a sensational player and quite painful

:33:56.:33:59.

at times because the footage we saw lifting the Challenge Cup was

:34:00.:34:02.

against my Bradford team. He was one of the original Super League stars.

:34:03.:34:06.

When the Super League was invented in 1996, he was at the forefront of

:34:07.:34:11.

the game. He made a massive splash, an international player as well. He

:34:12.:34:14.

will be remembered for the hard work you did in and around the sport. He

:34:15.:34:20.

really is the measuring stick, the benchmark that the modern-day

:34:21.:34:22.

professional should measure themselves against because it wasn't

:34:23.:34:26.

just about the sport or himself, he gave back so much as well. He will

:34:27.:34:31.

be sorely missed and our hearts and minds go out to his friends and

:34:32.:34:36.

family. The work he had done has been incredible and it really does

:34:37.:34:40.

leave a legacy, doesn't it? I really hope it does, it is something we

:34:41.:34:45.

need to think about the future. He was a remarkable person. I'd

:34:46.:34:49.

presented the shirt before the game and was inspired and people talk

:34:50.:34:54.

about the man of steel and the Steve Prescott award would be a fitting

:34:55.:34:59.

tribute. England's last group game was against Fiji at a sold-out KC

:35:00.:35:03.

Stadium in hole. After losing to Australia England got their World

:35:04.:35:06.

Cup campaign right back on track with a big win against Ireland last

:35:07.:35:12.

week, but they knew Fiji would provide a tough and physical tests.

:35:13.:35:19.

I have been looking forward to this encounter all week. It is a clamp

:35:20.:35:27.

like Fijian defence that is hanging on at the moment. James Graham,

:35:28.:35:32.

listed in the air. He is not going to like that, is he? He is not going

:35:33.:35:41.

to like that. James Graham, good, short backpass and Burgess. I think

:35:42.:35:42.

he might have fumbled it, he did. He has missed, dropped on and he

:35:43.:35:55.

will play the try. What a let off for England.

:35:56.:36:02.

And inside ball and try. This game just got a whole lot tougher for

:36:03.:36:11.

England. Sinfield, wonderful by Kevin

:36:12.:36:27.

Sinfield. England respond in kind. Straightaway England are up and

:36:28.:36:32.

running here. Chris Hill with a try forward and they are only ten metres

:36:33.:36:40.

away. Rob Burrow maintaining his position. Burgess again, Sam

:36:41.:36:45.

Burgess, unstoppable. The man is a machine, all of them could not keep

:36:46.:36:49.

him out. There is a machine, all of them could not keep him out. Respond

:36:50.:36:58.

responding of Rob Burrow, to his left he has got Hill and Rangi

:36:59.:37:03.

Chase. A lovely delayed pass from Rangi Chase and England are finding

:37:04.:37:11.

their form. Rangi Chase, it goes to Hall, what about that for Ryan Hall?

:37:12.:37:17.

It is better than aspirin for curing a coach's headache.

:37:18.:37:25.

Burrow skips away and was a wonderful England try again. They go

:37:26.:37:44.

again. It is a trifle Hall. Ryan Hall, a simpler finished than his

:37:45.:37:48.

first, his try tally in an England shirt is phenomenal. This was

:37:49.:37:54.

supposed to be a tough day at the office and it was in the first half.

:37:55.:37:58.

Fiji creating a bit of space here. That is a fabulous finesse --

:37:59.:38:13.

finish. A great score, and is a great rugby league score. England's

:38:14.:38:20.

day by a distance. Anybody who thought we would walk all over this

:38:21.:38:22.

team will need to think again. It was a tough match, we defended. We

:38:23.:38:28.

didn't play to our standard in the first half, we put our foot down at

:38:29.:38:31.

the start of the second half and carried on throughout the game. It

:38:32.:38:35.

was a great team effort and very happy for the team. It is the test

:38:36.:38:39.

we needed, we have had to work hard in each game and that will bode well

:38:40.:38:42.

for us in the quarterfinals. England going through as runners-up

:38:43.:38:53.

to Australia, Sam Burgess epitomised all the physicality of England. Yes,

:38:54.:38:58.

he was fantastic in this game. One of the standout players, without

:38:59.:39:03.

doubt. You can see by the statistics, 183 metres which is

:39:04.:39:08.

ridiculous for any team player, especially a prop. Most props go for

:39:09.:39:13.

100 metres but with carriers like this he set the benchmark for the

:39:14.:39:14.

game. We were talking about Fijian

:39:15.:39:22.

physicality but it was about Sam Burgess ripping into the boys and

:39:23.:39:27.

making sure that it was them who got on top. It was scrappy in the first

:39:28.:39:31.

half by England but we did the right things in the first half, the

:39:32.:39:34.

physicality, that is the way they had to set the standard. Elbowed,

:39:35.:39:41.

that is what it is all about. What about his try? Brilliant. He

:39:42.:39:46.

shouldn't deserve to school there. There were five Fijian defenders, he

:39:47.:39:51.

goes through the middle of them. All scrambling, he jumps up and throws

:39:52.:39:57.

the ball down hard. He is England's enforcer and the whole world knows

:39:58.:40:03.

he is coming. That is what makes him dangerous. He has steps the game up

:40:04.:40:11.

and is England's enforcer. Going into the quarterfinals and semifinal

:40:12.:40:13.

and potentially the final they will need that type of personnel within

:40:14.:40:18.

the squad. How important to have a player like that in the team? What

:40:19.:40:19.

does it do to the rest of the team? He is the talisman. You look at the

:40:20.:40:32.

space he has created for boroughs and Rangi Chase, you can have a good

:40:33.:40:39.

side there. Burgess is a massive player for England. The whole pack

:40:40.:40:43.

set the platform. We started seeing the backs play, Rangi Chase throwing

:40:44.:40:45.

the ball more than he has been. They have to set the platform. That

:40:46.:40:59.

gives these opportunities to create space out wide, there are gaps to

:41:00.:41:06.

pass the ball. Ryan Hall is one of the best finishers in the game.

:41:07.:41:12.

Through the middle, Burgess, the inside two. What did he bring to the

:41:13.:41:18.

game? His speed and presence of mind, he is experienced. He gets in

:41:19.:41:23.

the right position. He pushes in support better than anybody in the

:41:24.:41:27.

game. He is there in support and puts the ball into the sticks. How

:41:28.:41:31.

do you think England have progressed so far? Are you seeing them

:41:32.:41:33.

building? The halfbacks are working well, the

:41:34.:41:44.

forwards are getting on top. There will be big tests over the next

:41:45.:41:47.

couple of weeks but Steve McNamara all good pleased with the way he's

:41:48.:41:52.

side is building. A few selection headaches because nobody has let him

:41:53.:41:57.

down yet. Nobody has let him down, they are fit squad. You need to have

:41:58.:42:02.

the strength and depth, so he puts the pressure on the starting 17 and

:42:03.:42:06.

maybe that is what we will see in going to the next level. Would you

:42:07.:42:11.

have Rob Burrow win? I would. Definitely. You are sat in a

:42:12.:42:18.

darkened room but it is up to you in the end. It is great to have so many

:42:19.:42:24.

world-class players in your side, you have James Roby coming into the

:42:25.:42:30.

England side. You have three great players, Robbie was on about the

:42:31.:42:33.

Australian halfbacks but England has good players to put-in there as

:42:34.:42:38.

well. It is his selection headache, not yours. You have your own

:42:39.:42:41.

problems! This is how the quarterfinals line-up with one group

:42:42.:42:48.

match left to play. You have New Zealand against Scotland, Australia

:42:49.:42:52.

against the USA, the other two still to be decided because we have an

:42:53.:42:55.

extra highlights programme on Monday evening on BBC Two at 11:20pm to see

:42:56.:43:03.

who England will take on in that quarterfinal. France against Samoa

:43:04.:43:06.

in Perpignan on as the final match of the group stages. We will have

:43:07.:43:12.

live coverage of England's quarterfinal next Saturday. Build-up

:43:13.:43:15.

starts with a red button special before switching to BBC Two after

:43:16.:43:17.

7:30pm. Sue Barker presents coverage of this

:43:18.:43:34.

tennis programme. My thanks to Robbie, Steve and Earle. We are

:43:35.:43:38.

nearly at the knockout stages of this World Cup. Join us later today

:43:39.:43:41.

for the final pieces of the jigsaw. Goodbye.
