It's impossible to walk through the gates of the Greenyards and not get

:00:29.:00:34.

a shutter of excitement on this most wonderful of days. They've been

:00:35.:00:38.

holding this Festival of Rugby for over 130 years. Today, 5,000 miles

:00:39.:00:43.

away, professional players are taking part in this shortened

:00:44.:00:50.

version of the game in the Hong Kong borders but here is where it all

:00:51.:00:53.

began. The players see it as an opportunity to follow in the foot

:00:54.:00:58.

steps of the great. Welcome to the Melrose servens. -- sevens.

:00:59.:01:08.

Strength, power, pace. Tradition, pride, honour. In the heart of the

:01:09.:01:18.

Scottish Borders, a Battle of Wit, skill and speed, a test of heart and

:01:19.:01:25.

spirit. Many stars have graced the hallowed turf. Heroes have been

:01:26.:01:33.

born, legends grown over time. Today, the Kings of 2017 will be

:01:34.:01:41.

crowned. This is Melrose, home to the oldest rugby Sevens tournament

:01:42.:01:50.

in the world. It truly is a wonderful day many the shadow of the

:01:51.:01:54.

hills for the Sevens. We are well into round two and the fans have

:01:55.:01:58.

turned out in their finery. They are in for a real treat, both from the

:01:59.:02:02.

concession stands and from the action on the pitch. It is going to

:02:03.:02:10.

be a real test of stamina and speed here at the Melrose Sevens 2017. Who

:02:11.:02:14.

will be the victors? Stay right here to find out.

:02:15.:02:18.

Hi, good to have you with us. Colin Gregor the former Scotland Sevens

:02:19.:02:27.

captain is with us. It's a warm day, we are baking hot in the studio.

:02:28.:02:32.

It's all about the ladies cup and one team will be lifting that about

:02:33.:02:37.

7 o'clock this evening. You can see it all here on BBC Two Scotland. We

:02:38.:02:41.

are already into round two. Let's jump up to the commentary box just

:02:42.:02:47.

now. John Beattie and Bill Johnston are up there. They have watched the

:02:48.:02:57.

action so far. What's happened? Well, the first round one, Kelso

:02:58.:03:01.

took the lead. It was very close in the tie between

:03:02.:03:31.

Hawkes and Stirling. Trotter scored the winner for Stirling County. The

:03:32.:03:37.

second border side to be knocked out was Hawick. They were beaten by Gha,

:03:38.:03:51.

35-7. Stewart's Melville were beaten by Selkirk. 20-14.

:03:52.:04:02.

And Boroughmuir beat Peebles, 33-14. They are looking dangerous. It was a

:04:03.:04:09.

tremendous tussle between these two, Dundee and Ayr but Dundee went

:04:10.:04:12.

through. Now, we are still to see some of the

:04:13.:04:23.

big names, but in the last game of the first round, Heriots too strong

:04:24.:04:30.

for Falkirk. That was 26-19. And there's the results of all the

:04:31.:04:37.

first round ties. Kelso put Marr away...

:04:38.:04:53.

Dundee were comfortable against Ayr. Boroughmuir looked good. As we

:04:54.:05:04.

stand, we are in the second half. Thank you, gentlemen. Lots more to

:05:05.:05:24.

come from the boys all during the afternoon here. Colin Gregor has

:05:25.:05:28.

been watching the action and has been involved in the action as well.

:05:29.:05:32.

We'll talk about that in a moment but hearing from all the great names

:05:33.:05:36.

and seeing the pictures, you get a real sense of the history of the

:05:37.:05:42.

event, a beautiful day, the sun is baking down, it's a good scene

:05:43.:05:46.

behind us? It's fantastic, the camera work, you see how stunning a

:05:47.:05:51.

setting Melrose is. It helps when the sun is out and the skies are

:05:52.:05:55.

blue. We have seen some exciting games, some top quality rugby and it

:05:56.:05:59.

bodes well with arguably the big teams still to come into the

:06:00.:06:03.

competition. You had your professional career for much of it

:06:04.:06:07.

as captain of the Scotland Sevens team, you have travelled over the

:06:08.:06:09.

world an represented your country with that thistle on your jersey.

:06:10.:06:16.

How important do you guys, the professionals, take this, and how

:06:17.:06:20.

does it still remain an important tournament in terms of Sevens? It

:06:21.:06:25.

serves a number of purposes, as does Sevens now that it's in the

:06:26.:06:28.

Olympics. It's becoming its own sport, there are opportunities for

:06:29.:06:33.

some of these guys to potentially follow a career into seven-a-side

:06:34.:06:37.

rugby. You saw with Edinburgh winning last year, Glasgow a couple

:06:38.:06:42.

of years before that how much it means for the professionals to come

:06:43.:06:45.

back and get an opportunity. In Scotland, for club players, you

:06:46.:06:50.

rarely get to play in front of 10,000, 11,000 people as you do in

:06:51.:06:56.

the Greenyard. It's a fantastic opportunity you saw how delighted

:06:57.:07:01.

the crowds are. You played in warm conditions and it's really warm here

:07:02.:07:04.

today. The team that win today will be not only the team that play the

:07:05.:07:07.

best rugby, but the team who can manage the stamina all the way to 7

:07:08.:07:11.

o'clock tonight. Exactly. That's always a huge part of a seven-a-side

:07:12.:07:16.

tournament, especially in the border circuit where you are playing four

:07:17.:07:19.

games in a day. You've got to be quick about how you recover and get

:07:20.:07:23.

your energy levels back up, game after game. That's where the

:07:24.:07:28.

professional players benefit because they're well conditioned. The likes

:07:29.:07:35.

of Melrose, they've experienced Sevens teams, they tend to come to

:07:36.:07:40.

the good as well. Let's have a look at the second round as it stands.

:07:41.:08:18.

Let's talk about the Stirling Edinburgh game. Stirling haven't

:08:19.:08:24.

been too successful but they beat Hawks and I believe you had a role

:08:25.:08:29.

to play in that, didn't you? Er... Yes. Disappointing and fair play to

:08:30.:08:34.

stirring that so often in Sevens the game goes down to after the final

:08:35.:08:39.

whistle and on this occasion Stirling Conservatived that

:08:40.:08:45.

fortunate try. We saw Logan Trotter who was quick. If you have pace,

:08:46.:08:49.

it's an advantage for you. Just 18 years old, played for County. You

:08:50.:08:54.

were coaching Hawks, so the audience at home now. You got to commentate

:08:55.:09:00.

and be in the studio and do all manner of things today so lucky you

:09:01.:09:05.

are not coaching today? The guys were good about that. Let's talk

:09:06.:09:09.

about the teams in the second round coming up as well. As John said,

:09:10.:09:14.

some of the big guns we are going to see them over the next hour or so in

:09:15.:09:18.

the Greenyards. Some big players and players hoping to build a reputation

:09:19.:09:23.

as a Sevens player. Which again is one of the exciting things.

:09:24.:09:31.

Watsonians won the Gala Sevens last weekend so Thirlwall versed.

:09:32.:09:35.

Melrose, the hosts, they're in the BT and League Cup final and they

:09:36.:09:41.

have a strong team out with well experienced Sevens players.

:09:42.:09:45.

Watsonians cantering in for another score after the final whistle. You

:09:46.:09:50.

have the likes of the invitational teams which is always excitingand

:09:51.:09:54.

special. Harlequins, a lot of the young guys, what are they going to

:09:55.:10:01.

be like as a team from the academy, how will they cope with the heat.

:10:02.:10:07.

The Co-optimists and the GSI seven made up from university students

:10:08.:10:10.

mainly from down south too. Also Sweden. It's fantastic for Swedish

:10:11.:10:14.

national Sevens teams to get an opportunity to play at Melrose. Who

:10:15.:10:17.

knows what they'll be like but it will be great to see them play. It

:10:18.:10:22.

will absolutely considering the difficulties they've had back home

:10:23.:10:26.

with the problems they've had and this morning they had a minutes'

:10:27.:10:31.

silence before the game started to pay respect to those who've lost

:10:32.:10:35.

their lives over there in the tragic events in Sweden. The boys will be

:10:36.:10:38.

on the pitch later representing their country, up against Heriots.

:10:39.:10:44.

So lots coming up on BBC Two Scotland. The next game will be

:10:45.:10:55.

interesting, Curriie against Jed. Scott Hastings and Bill Johnston are

:10:56.:11:00.

in the commentary box for us. We bid you a very warm welcome here

:11:01.:11:03.

to the commentary box at the green yards. We have the grandest view of

:11:04.:11:14.

proceedings below us. In front of us, Jed-forest against Currie and

:11:15.:11:17.

Scott Hastings is alongside me. Welcome. Great to be back here at

:11:18.:11:22.

Melrose. The conditions are absolutely perfect to play

:11:23.:11:29.

attacking, open, fluid seven-a-side. Men oi of experience in the Jed side

:11:30.:11:35.

with the brothers who've represented Scotland in the past. That was

:11:36.:11:42.

Gregory Young. Craig Cowan for Jed. Seven minutes each way. They play

:11:43.:11:46.

ten each way in the final. The players on this lovely hot day will

:11:47.:11:52.

feel that seven Phipps is long away. The sweeper across the back. Up

:11:53.:11:56.

comes his twin brother Lewis. Opening score for Jed. Lewis Young

:11:57.:12:03.

touches down. That's the pace these guys have, this pair, and it's the

:12:04.:12:08.

sort of thing you need in Sevens. We identified that from the off. They

:12:09.:12:13.

are a threat. Gregor Young there - I can hardly tell difference, I'm glad

:12:14.:12:17.

they have numbers on their jersey but Lewis runs it in. They're

:12:18.:12:22.

powerful, fit lads. They're ready for this and Jed will be a match for

:12:23.:12:26.

any side at the green yards this afternoon. Here is Lewis bobbing the

:12:27.:12:33.

ball. Has he got it? Just curved away wide. Jed leave 5-0. His

:12:34.:12:42.

brother will be asking what went wrong, he'll be saying, it was a

:12:43.:12:44.

sitter, what happened. Back come Currie. Down that far

:12:45.:13:06.

side. Lovely running. Campbell. Wilson. Nobody going to stop the

:13:07.:13:15.

Glasgow pro. He scores the try and the referee says the ball hit the

:13:16.:13:18.

ground so that is where the try will be scored and that's the line from

:13:19.:13:27.

which the conversion will be taken. Yes, he has that look. He came in,

:13:28.:13:31.

used the touch line got on the outside, great skill. Didn't

:13:32.:13:34.

actually touch the ball down there, but tripped on the uneven ground. He

:13:35.:13:39.

didn't put the ball down. Quite happy to go on. But the referee

:13:40.:13:47.

declared a try was scored and it makes the conversion harder for this

:13:48.:13:54.

Currie team. Just gone wide as well. All square after two-and-a-half

:13:55.:13:59.

minutes. And there's the big fella, he used to play for the Brumbies in

:14:00.:14:04.

Australia. He was in the Australia Sevens training squad. Obviously

:14:05.:14:09.

very much at home in this abbreviated version of the game.

:14:10.:14:16.

Lewis Young shadowed by number 7 which is Rory Smith. Young boys

:14:17.:14:26.

bobbing and heaving on the far side. Happy to tackle. Should he have done

:14:27.:14:30.

there? Might have been better to keep it loose. Here they come again.

:14:31.:14:39.

Melville remember Jedforest were the winners last year over all of the

:14:40.:14:47.

sevens in the circuit. And they were runners-up to Edinburgh here at the

:14:48.:14:53.

Greenyards when Edinburgh beaten 29-19 in the final. Wilson at the

:14:54.:15:10.

front. I often wonder, the referee is letting them get away with murder

:15:11.:15:15.

but if you are half a millimetre of being straight in the line-out they

:15:16.:15:18.

give you a loud blast of the whistle. You are right but it is

:15:19.:15:23.

free possession and when you have a game like this, possession is key,

:15:24.:15:31.

to give away possession so easily as Currie did there, it gives Jedforest

:15:32.:15:37.

a real chance to attack. The messed up scrummage ball but still they got

:15:38.:15:40.

it out, Lewis Young using pace on the outside. Here is good fellow. I

:15:41.:15:46.

think it's went forward there in the contact. Young Wilson didn't manage

:15:47.:15:54.

to get his hands on it. The areas with the great dilemma grey cap. He

:15:55.:16:00.

is going to be the hooker in the scrummage. Look at the Sunshine

:16:01.:16:12.

baking down. Andrew care, goodness knows how many medals he has won.

:16:13.:16:20.

Duncan Wilson from Currie, also played for Edinborough Accies.

:16:21.:16:22.

Well-known in vets tournament yesterday. Well tackled on the far

:16:23.:16:34.

side. Jedforest get a penalty. All square at 5-5. A member they play

:16:35.:16:41.

seven minutes in the opening half. Great defence there. Tremendous

:16:42.:16:49.

tackle from Robbie. The often talk about the attack and refocus on the

:16:50.:16:53.

attack within sevens but the defence is so key and water super tackle.

:16:54.:16:59.

Young committed the penalty and once again Jedforest with real pressure

:17:00.:17:04.

here. Gillon looking for space out why. Here goes Lewis Young. Currie

:17:05.:17:11.

have the line across the field that you can see there might be space.

:17:12.:17:16.

Robert Hogg thinks not. Goodfellow with a one-handed off-load.

:17:17.:17:24.

Beautifully done. Trying the corner. -- try it in. Gibb used to play at

:17:25.:17:34.

the Melrose club. Tremendous wraparound move here, the one hand

:17:35.:17:42.

pass on to the outside, super seven strive for Jedforest. It is the

:17:43.:17:47.

passing going in front of the man that makes it easy for the runners

:17:48.:17:52.

to take and not break momentum. Here is Lewis Young. 25 years of age, six

:17:53.:18:05.

foot four. A big lad. I can hear gasps from all over the Greenyards

:18:06.:18:13.

at that effort. All of the skills here on show. First of all Robert

:18:14.:18:18.

Hogg delivers the as and then the one-handed pass, a two-handed pass

:18:19.:18:21.

from Goodfellow found his marker on the outside and Gibb in for another

:18:22.:18:31.

Jedforest Drive. Ten points in five, no conversions yet. A lovely piece

:18:32.:18:36.

of running. Smith away. Great school coming up for Currie but what

:18:37.:18:47.

tackled thereby Gillon. And there is half-time. Tries by Gibb, tries by

:18:48.:19:01.

Young. Here is that run again. Backs himself Cameron Smith, a cross comes

:19:02.:19:08.

Chris Gillen, what an important tackle. Bang on half time there and

:19:09.:19:12.

it just allows Jedforest the breeder with to try lead. Tremendous couple

:19:13.:19:23.

of tackles in the Jedforest defence. They have one minutes for the

:19:24.:19:29.

interval here in this format and they won't have time to take on the

:19:30.:19:33.

lovely views up in the background that there is Gibb of the manager.

:19:34.:19:42.

Keeping hydrated. Almost fish out the Goldfish bowl, you just sat in

:19:43.:19:46.

the oxygen and reset again. A quick turnaround, quick words of comfort

:19:47.:19:52.

from the coaches and the managers and off you go again. There they

:19:53.:19:59.

are. They've not quite gotten into the picnic hampers and flasks but

:20:00.:20:02.

there will be there shortly I would think because here we are 20 past

:20:03.:20:06.

two on this lovely Saturday afternoon here in the Borders. Some

:20:07.:20:10.

guys taking on refreshments and making sure they are rehydrated in

:20:11.:20:14.

the crowd. A big crowd today. Must be 10,000. There will be more coming

:20:15.:20:23.

in as the afternoon progresses. Meanwhile 10-5 Jedforest lead.

:20:24.:20:34.

Robert Hogg tries to get it for Jedforest but it bounces awkwardly.

:20:35.:20:51.

Robert Hogg on the side and I think it is Craig Cowin in the middle.

:20:52.:20:57.

Sean Goodfellow away on the far side he is usually a scrum-half. Picked

:20:58.:21:09.

up there by Charlie Shield, nice running. What a lovely piece of

:21:10.:21:20.

running by Rory Smith. Five world deserved points for Currie which

:21:21.:21:25.

gets them level. Sometimes when a player backs himself and gets an

:21:26.:21:29.

angle. The minute he got that he decided to go on the run. Teasing

:21:30.:21:37.

the defence. Tremendous run and Smith escapes the tackle and scores

:21:38.:21:44.

a good try. Down below is young Charlie Shield. Viewers may remember

:21:45.:21:51.

his dad Graham Shiel to use to play here and had a number of caps for

:21:52.:21:56.

Scotland I dare say his father will have a few words of wisdom is about

:21:57.:22:05.

the way that kick went wired and they are eight minutes into this.

:22:06.:22:16.

Seven minutes each way. She had with the restart drop out. Gillon at the

:22:17.:22:29.

long singing pass out the midfield. The past two Gibb was a bit iffy.

:22:30.:22:43.

Looking for a gap in the middle. Goodfellow again moving the ball ran

:22:44.:22:51.

the gap. 3-1 on the side. A nicely timed pass. No knock-on. Not quite

:22:52.:23:09.

the cutting edge. Give looking for support. The referee spotted it good

:23:10.:23:17.

officiating on the far side there. You can just see the overrun there.

:23:18.:23:25.

So easily done. It is always having the discipline to hold your line.

:23:26.:23:37.

You can see the microphone at the front of the referee. A big heave by

:23:38.:23:46.

Jedforest upsetting the Gibb possession. Great burst of pace. A

:23:47.:23:59.

lovely run here. Campbell Wilson and then passed on to McGinlay. Gibb

:24:00.:24:06.

have men out wide. That could be a yellow card.

:24:07.:24:18.

Just held up. Just an offside squad and I think it was Lewis Young.

:24:19.:24:38.

Lewis Young died over it, yellow carded two minutes in the sin-bin.

:24:39.:24:44.

-- dived. Periods in the top left of your picture. In he comes and makes

:24:45.:24:48.

a nuisance of himself in an offside position and denies Gibb the

:24:49.:24:59.

possession. Rory Smith to the right here. They are open to the far side.

:25:00.:25:06.

Shield spotted the man is widen the way he goes. Desperate time for

:25:07.:25:12.

Jedforest, two minute the sin-bin for Young. Jedforest get a penalty,

:25:13.:25:21.

that could be a life-saver. 10-10. The finalists last year up against

:25:22.:25:27.

it. I would use the clock now. Slow down for the line-outs. It is going

:25:28.:25:32.

to be tough against seven men for the sixth of Currie. Robert Hogg why

:25:33.:25:43.

pass. The off-load, the pass round the body. Great tackling by Currie.

:25:44.:25:51.

No offside there. The chance here again for McGinlay. That could be

:25:52.:25:58.

the winner for Currie, it certainly puts them ahead 15-10. Great try by

:25:59.:26:09.

Scott McGinlay. With Lewis Young in the sin-bin there was a way space

:26:10.:26:13.

out wide and Scott McGinlay, it was the past by Charlie Shield, the

:26:14.:26:22.

space was always out wide and the extra man and the extra long has

:26:23.:26:27.

made that try. Is that the one that gets them into the next round? Here

:26:28.:26:36.

is the conversion attempt. The flag stays down so it remains 15-10. The

:26:37.:26:41.

clock in the left-hand side when it reaches 14 minutes is full-time. And

:26:42.:26:49.

so Gibb with the advantage of the scoreline. How crucial is the lack

:26:50.:26:54.

of conversions going to cost this much's Jedforest will fancy an

:26:55.:26:57.

opportunity with the young brothers back on the pitch now. Lewis Young,

:26:58.:27:11.

not quite the flaring pace of last year I feel. Gibb is in all sorts of

:27:12.:27:21.

trouble there. Currie are forming, they are like Wasps. They will try

:27:22.:27:28.

to get away. He has. He need somebody with him. Will he go all

:27:29.:27:33.

the way, this would be a magnificent score if he gets there. What

:27:34.:27:36.

attacker there. That was Charlie Shield getting back. Frantic fight

:27:37.:27:43.

for possession. The clock tells us they are into stoppage time. The

:27:44.:27:48.

clock tells us that that is full-time and so it's a win for

:27:49.:27:59.

Currie over Jedforest. Look at the joy on their faces there. I'm joined

:28:00.:28:11.

by Fergus Scott, are you pleased? Very much so, the boys stuck in,

:28:12.:28:16.

credit Jedforest, always a strong sevens outfit and they really put us

:28:17.:28:19.

under pressure and we were hanging on but I think the yellow card was

:28:20.:28:23.

the turning point. Managed to keep possession and held on at the end.

:28:24.:28:26.

Really chuffed for the boys, they worked hard. Any targets? We have

:28:27.:28:35.

come in with the belief and the teams under pressure and the first

:28:36.:28:39.

couple of tyres we have shown that so there is no stopping how far we

:28:40.:28:50.

can go. Here we are. Gibb through. This is Edinborough Accies on the

:28:51.:28:53.

blue-and-white against Stirling County. Some big names. Ben Apple

:28:54.:29:07.

son of Mark Apple Store in the sevens expert, this would be a

:29:08.:29:11.

cracker at Melrose and alongside me anywhere. What great weather.

:29:12.:29:19.

Great spectacle so far. Edinborough Accies were beaten last weekend at

:29:20.:29:36.

the Gala sevens plenty of pace and this man flies through and Kent is

:29:37.:29:38.

under the post. Makes life easy when you play Sevens

:29:39.:29:49.

when you have got a bit of speed and a bit of speed Robbie Kent had

:29:50.:29:53.

there. Saw a little gap. You only need that in this game at the moment

:29:54.:29:57.

and a very important start there to Edinburgh. So quick in the game.

:29:58.:29:59.

Seven points up. The conversion was good. Plenty of

:30:00.:30:18.

gas in this Accies team. Stirling County through, they beat Hawks in

:30:19.:30:31.

the first round. County showed enough gumption. Appleson, a real

:30:32.:30:38.

flyer. Inside to Robbie Chalmers, son of Craig. Lots of men out to the

:30:39.:30:49.

left. Soul. To the left hand side. The long passing. It will be a try

:30:50.:30:55.

for Jamie Soul. He had a couple last weekend.

:30:56.:31:05.

Accies are making Edburg good work of this. Edinburgh have making the

:31:06.:31:11.

most of it. Good running from all players there, using the ball. They

:31:12.:31:15.

are not taking too much contact, as we can see. Stirling are losing the

:31:16.:31:20.

ball, you can't afford to do that. That was a well-worked try with

:31:21.:31:31.

Jamie Soul taking the glory. Soul has a good piece of gas. This was

:31:32.:31:38.

the break originally by Bruce. Look at that muscle! The gas was over

:31:39.:31:44.

three yards. Yes, going well! He'll be pleased to hear that. And his dad

:31:45.:31:49.

as well. He had a bit of gas over maybe ten yards! Good work. It shows

:31:50.:32:02.

you how old we are when we see the mates we used to play with, see

:32:03.:32:06.

their sons. Must be a very proud moment when your sons play at a

:32:07.:32:16.

venue like this. Accies in possession. They have lots who can

:32:17.:32:20.

go the length. A bit of untidy play there. Look at the conditions here

:32:21.:32:24.

at Melrose. Stunning day. Every time we come here, the weather is

:32:25.:32:33.

absolutely stunning. That must be one of the views in world rugby. You

:32:34.:32:40.

look at that Doddie and you played here and everybody who organises

:32:41.:32:43.

this tournament must be incredibly proud. Takes a lot of people

:32:44.:32:46.

behind-the-scenes to organise something like this. Everyone plays

:32:47.:32:48.

a part in it. Such a great venue. Lewis. Appleson. To Winks. Dancing

:32:49.:33:16.

feet there. Made light work of that defensive effort. Came off his left

:33:17.:33:20.

foot, spotted the gap and romped in 30 metres. Let us have another look.

:33:21.:33:31.

You can't afford to miss the tackles.

:33:32.:33:47.

Appleson converted the two points. His dad was involved in the Co-op

:33:48.:33:55.

with me 20 plus years ago to win this tournament. Can't afford to

:33:56.:34:00.

miss tackles. Stirling have done that a couple of times. Advantage

:34:01.:34:04.

gained, Edinburgh Accies made the most of that and scored under the

:34:05.:34:13.

post. Appleson. Passed to Chalmers. To Kent. Kent thinks about it and

:34:14.:34:20.

gets bundled into touch. Trotter scored earlier on in the first

:34:21.:34:28.

round. That young lad, Logan Trotter, we know he can go the

:34:29.:34:41.

length so brave to go outside him. Accies are well organised. Clash

:34:42.:34:48.

Stirling struggling to get into this game. Men out on the left hand side.

:34:49.:35:03.

Edinburgh Accies ball. Good support play by Bruce. Two handoffs. Got to

:35:04.:35:30.

keep hold of it. That was good linking play and the ball is out to

:35:31.:35:35.

Winks. He looks up and doesn't need Soul. Winks is in for a try. That's

:35:36.:35:40.

a belter, one end of the pitch to the other. That is exciting to

:35:41.:35:42.

watch. Extra couple of seconds to get the

:35:43.:36:04.

ball and make the decision. You could see what the difference means

:36:05.:36:07.

when you have the speed. Appleson with the conversion. 26 points to

:36:08.:36:17.

the good for Edinburgh. Looks like a dead game for Stirling. Winks draws

:36:18.:36:21.

the defender there and that wiz a good run in. Accies looking - they

:36:22.:36:28.

lost last weekend to Watsonians - but they have a well-balanced team.

:36:29.:36:32.

Some of the big guns still to come here this afternoon. The Accies so

:36:33.:36:34.

far looking strong. They were involved in Gala last

:36:35.:36:53.

week. You can train as hard as you want but game time is what it was

:36:54.:36:57.

about. There's the crowd. My daughter is around there, I'm a

:36:58.:37:00.

concerned father, she's there somewhere. We have the student match

:37:01.:37:04.

coming up and lots of people coming here today. Not entirely sure what

:37:05.:37:09.

that head set is for, maybe you will know! It's becoming a young

:37:10.:37:14.

audience, the Sevens. He's not so young there, Ronnie Kirkpatrick,

:37:15.:37:18.

great old fellow of the Jed-Forest rugby team.

:37:19.:37:30.

A Way bit of fancy dress giving me a run for my money. I think he's got

:37:31.:37:48.

that all wrong! Second half. 26-0. Got to ground quickly. Jack Bruce. A

:37:49.:38:00.

beautiful bit of running from Ben Appleson. A cracking piece of

:38:01.:38:06.

defence. To all intents an purposes, Appleson was through, he maybe just

:38:07.:38:11.

relaxed. Beautiful tackling from Logan Trotter. A bit of pride in

:38:12.:38:16.

Stirling. They don't like the score. They are looking into the sunshine.

:38:17.:38:22.

Sam Johnston still keeps it. Lays the ball inside. Being tracked by

:38:23.:38:24.

Bruce. It's a game of chess. Johnson is

:38:25.:38:41.

through. Good fielding penalty. You can hear

:38:42.:39:01.

the referee saying, you can't come in from the side. It's been closely

:39:02.:39:12.

refereed. You come in through the behind foot and if you come in this

:39:13.:39:18.

side you get penalised and that's what's happened there. Soul. Good

:39:19.:39:28.

running by Wicks. We have already seen this big powerful player --

:39:29.:39:34.

Winks. And thank you very much, you sit down, I'll run the length. And

:39:35.:39:42.

Winks adds another five points to the score board for Accies. Stirling

:39:43.:39:49.

County were trying to get back in there. You could see Sam Johnson,

:39:50.:39:54.

you can't afford that. Missed the tackle, didn't use the touchline.

:39:55.:39:59.

Also putting all the players upfront. Sometimes you see a sweeper

:40:00.:40:04.

that might have caught that man, Winks but still they are not playing

:40:05.:40:08.

with that tactic. One tackle makes all the difference. If you miss,

:40:09.:40:12.

this is what can happen. There was if conversion. Easy does it. 33-0.

:40:13.:40:20.

Nearly ten minutes gone. Longer kick this time over the head of Jay sob

:40:21.:40:31.

Adamson. Small slight figure. -- Jacob. Gives it to Sinclair. Trotter

:40:32.:40:40.

the speed man. The Accies defence system is holding up. Lovely break.

:40:41.:40:52.

Emmerson says he's had enough. That's a great break and a very good

:40:53.:40:58.

try by Stirling County. Consolation try. One-and-a-half minutes to go.

:40:59.:41:08.

They deserve it. They have competed hard. They found the space. Tongue

:41:09.:41:17.

out ready to go. Good try, he'll be happy with that. Some big guns still

:41:18.:41:24.

to come. GSI Invitation coach by Richie Gray. Harlequins, the

:41:25.:41:28.

Co-optimists, some of the Irish Sevens players. The Swedish national

:41:29.:41:34.

Sevens team are ready and waiting after what's happened in their

:41:35.:41:39.

country - earlier on, there was some time spent remembering that. Great

:41:40.:41:48.

chasing by Glation. And another romp in this time from Tom Drennon.

:41:49.:41:58.

Edinburgh Angies in a sleighly different class -- Edinburgh Accies.

:41:59.:42:06.

You can see Stirling have kind of given up. Lovely fantastic skills to

:42:07.:42:14.

see there. Stirling, when you do that, it's all about support. No-one

:42:15.:42:18.

was willing to run back. You've got to help your man there. Edinburgh

:42:19.:42:25.

Accies are on the front foot and have been ever since the start

:42:26.:42:31.

pretty much. There's the Edinburgh Accies bench. They'll be happy.

:42:32.:42:42.

Loads of experience there. His father played for Gala. It's fathers

:42:43.:42:44.

and sons day here. Edinburgh Accies again just all over

:42:45.:42:53.

them. Good interception though by emmayorson who scored the try. --

:42:54.:43:06.

emmerson. Trotter. Inside ball to Jacob Adamson, slipping, has he

:43:07.:43:10.

pulled a hamstring? No, he's fine. Another try by Adamson. And the boys

:43:11.:43:15.

off the bench have made an impact. They have that. Just having a look

:43:16.:43:22.

to see, miss a couple there. Nearly tripped himself up. Couldn't believe

:43:23.:43:28.

the space he was in. That was a good well-taken try by Adamson.

:43:29.:43:31.

Consolation in some ways but it shows you that they could play the

:43:32.:43:35.

game, they could get stuck in against Accies. Too much too late.

:43:36.:43:40.

That is an absolute paich of a kick -- peach of a kick. Out on the

:43:41.:43:46.

15-yard line. Allowing Stirling County to win the ball back. The

:43:47.:43:59.

first quarter-final is going to be Watsonians v Currie. Cluts the ball

:44:00.:44:11.

down. And three quick tries not enough to turn this around for

:44:12.:44:17.

Stirling County. Good play nonetheless. He's always the danger

:44:18.:44:23.

man. Good, strob strong hand off there. Lovely to see the boys with

:44:24.:44:30.

the one hand on the ball. Very dangerous in one way but very

:44:31.:44:38.

skilled on the on the other hand. The end of the match now, 40-19.

:44:39.:44:47.

There's Jamie Souls. What a game it's been, Stirling County

:44:48.:44:51.

19-Edinburgh Accies 40. I have a man with you knows plenty

:44:52.:45:00.

about sevens rugby. Would you make about your team there? The first

:45:01.:45:06.

half we were outstanding. We didn't allow them to have the ball and with

:45:07.:45:11.

the confidence. You don't know what Stirling County will do so the most

:45:12.:45:14.

pleasing aspect was the way we looked after the ball. Delighted.

:45:15.:45:21.

Some famous names in the team, living up to the surnames. They are

:45:22.:45:25.

all doing OK apart from my son who is rubbish. We are delighted with

:45:26.:45:28.

the effort and looking forward to playing the next tournament. While

:45:29.:45:37.

the next tide coming up sees one of the guest teams Harlequins taking on

:45:38.:45:51.

GHA GHA won the first round tie 35-7 this of course the second round.

:45:52.:45:55.

Harlequins all selected from the academy setup and coached by former

:45:56.:45:58.

England and Lions player turned up rose.

:45:59.:46:02.

Alongside me Scott Hastings is Colin Gregor, former Scotland sevens

:46:03.:46:11.

captain and a real chance for GHA to take a scalp of one of the guest

:46:12.:46:16.

teams? Indeed and sometimes having the benefit of that first game where

:46:17.:46:19.

they comfortably won whereas Harlequins coming in fresh getting

:46:20.:46:25.

your lungs off can be difficult so this will be interesting to see how

:46:26.:46:29.

these two match-up. Harlequins up and over the ten metre line.

:46:30.:46:33.

Retaining the possession, tremendous tackle. They forced the penalty. For

:46:34.:46:49.

GHA, one of the stars of their outfits Jericevich has worn a

:46:50.:46:55.

Scottish jersey. A dodgy pass picked up by Charlie Walker. He has

:46:56.:47:02.

represented England, 24 years of age. Down for Harlequins opening

:47:03.:47:03.

try. Classic hospital pass. Not going to

:47:04.:47:17.

thank your team-mates for that. Charlie Walker, you don't want to

:47:18.:47:20.

give him any space and he will lap it up all day. After a shaky start

:47:21.:47:27.

from Harlequins, they needed it to calm their nerves. Seize the

:47:28.:47:35.

conversion nice and easy, over it goes. Of course the scoring team

:47:36.:47:44.

takes the restart. Charlie Walker made his debut against Gloucester in

:47:45.:47:50.

September 2011 so as I mentioned, the more experienced head in this

:47:51.:47:58.

academy team. Cameron King sets off the attack for GHA. A little bit

:47:59.:48:06.

scrappy at the bottom but through Jericevich a longer pass. Find his

:48:07.:48:10.

target on the outside. Good covering tackle.

:48:11.:48:32.

Has played for Lithuania and on the European Grand Prix circuit. Periods

:48:33.:48:41.

again. He is a huge unit Mikalcius. GHA defending down in the 22. All

:48:42.:48:49.

about possession. Good attackers coming in thick and fast from GHA

:48:50.:48:53.

but the ball spilled so good defence on that far side. Excellent

:48:54.:49:00.

scrambled defence, not willing to accept defeat as we see should be a

:49:01.:49:08.

scorer all should retain possession but as loses the ball. GHA showing

:49:09.:49:12.

there is no such thing as a lost cause. The Harlequins so far looking

:49:13.:49:17.

to go tides, not playing with a lot of with to the game. GHA defending

:49:18.:49:27.

well. Attacking from behind the try line, risky stuff. Got it out wide

:49:28.:49:33.

though. GHA just stretching the play. Andras Bauer. The ball loose

:49:34.:49:43.

at the back though. The knock-on costing them there. The ball lost by

:49:44.:49:53.

Sam Mollison. GHA losing the ball a few times in contact, we know how

:49:54.:49:57.

important maintaining the contact is in sevens. Once you get tackle it is

:49:58.:50:03.

treasuring the ball and getting a hard fight to get it in the good

:50:04.:50:05.

position to clear away. James Laing receives the ball. At

:50:06.:50:24.

Walker. Again good pace by Walker, look how easy he made its, Charlie

:50:25.:50:30.

Walker in for his second try of the tie. Out and outpace sentiment this

:50:31.:50:38.

way. Quality individual skill that we see there, just slows down and

:50:39.:50:45.

encourages GHA out. Just slightly out of position and Charlie Walker

:50:46.:50:49.

recognises that and he is so quick, so shop off the mark. Quality

:50:50.:50:56.

individual. James Lamb with the conversion, good for the under 18

:50:57.:51:03.

Scotland former. Also represented the students in his time. As a bit

:51:04.:51:08.

of experience as well, 22 years of age earlier this week. Warren

:51:09.:51:15.

Abrahams there on the right of your picture, coach of the Academy outfit

:51:16.:51:34.

the ball knocked on. Real hopes for that young flying machine areas in

:51:35.:51:41.

the bottom left Ibitoye 19 years of age. Looking to see if he can have a

:51:42.:51:46.

go on the outside. He has been with the Harlequins since he was aged 12.

:51:47.:51:52.

Is that right? He's a virtual at the age of 19. GHA had a punch of the

:51:53.:52:01.

Harlequins half yet, being forced to attack from the deep. He was in

:52:02.:52:11.

support now? Jericevich try to beat Walker. While tackled, the ball

:52:12.:52:21.

comes loose there. That goes to Robinson. Normal service resumed

:52:22.:52:28.

from Harlequins. Advantage was being played. Two converted tries and

:52:29.:52:36.

Harlequins lead. 20 seconds left on the clock. Handed possession to GHA

:52:37.:52:46.

and a great attacking opportunity to close out the half. Quality break

:52:47.:52:53.

through the middle, these look fairly similar. I think he realised

:52:54.:52:59.

there was a bit of a gap and again just maintaining possession at the

:53:00.:53:03.

breakdown and they have this opportunity with the scrum.

:53:04.:53:05.

Important to get a score before half-time. Step back then, the ball

:53:06.:53:13.

released from Mollison. Cameron King, comes to the nearside, wearing

:53:14.:53:20.

the scrum cap is Campbell. Over the 22 Campbell. The tackle is made

:53:21.:53:30.

there by Lamb of Harlequins. Campbell with the quick tap restart.

:53:31.:53:37.

The off-load didn't meet its maker. Harlequins come away with the ball,

:53:38.:53:42.

if they get it out wide, Ibitoye is on the outside but backing

:53:43.:53:50.

themselves going all the way. James Lamb having converted to tries

:53:51.:53:57.

scores one himself and closes out the half. Three tries to the good

:53:58.:54:04.

with a conversion come. So dangerous with the counterattack, the Valley

:54:05.:54:06.

of possession in sevens, if you do turn it over it is getting your

:54:07.:54:10.

defensive shape. GHA tarring at the end of the half unable to do that.

:54:11.:54:15.

Harlequins with enough pace to really punish the full length of the

:54:16.:54:21.

pitch. A big ask for GHA coming back from this now. Colin your rights

:54:22.:54:29.

because the first tie it was GHA with all the possession. They won

:54:30.:54:38.

that 35-7 but quite going their way against the Harlequins. The

:54:39.:54:47.

half-time score hurts 21-0. -- here. Tony get pros would be joining the

:54:48.:54:51.

views. It really is a marvellous setting here. Big crowds were here

:54:52.:54:58.

early doors, the first tie got under 11:30am. It's just before 3pm now

:54:59.:55:03.

and they have been enjoying a feast of rugby. With the sun beaming down

:55:04.:55:11.

it makes it more enjoyable the atmosphere building at those

:55:12.:55:14.

throughout the day the Greenyards. We are seeing one of the

:55:15.:55:17.

Invitational team is looking strong in that first half there are, their

:55:18.:55:22.

opening game, the physicality and the pace they are bringing looks

:55:23.:55:27.

like it is too much for GHA to cope with. You wonder if he will be

:55:28.:55:31.

donning a jersey if few years to go. 20 years ago the Harlequins lift the

:55:32.:55:35.

title here and they had the Prince of Nigeria playing on that day, it

:55:36.:55:39.

was Andrew Harriman and always good fun here Colin Gregor. Played many

:55:40.:55:45.

times here and it's an absolute pleasure to bring all this action

:55:46.:55:48.

for this wonderful setting and search history in the game. 1883 was

:55:49.:55:54.

the first tournament and some of the greats in the game David Campese,

:55:55.:56:00.

Philip Sele and some tremendous players. Colin you played against

:56:01.:56:14.

him on a few occasions? Is an absolute legend and a real joy to

:56:15.:56:18.

watch. He played the game in the right way with a smile on its face

:56:19.:56:24.

and always quality running one ball in one hand, throwing the float on

:56:25.:56:28.

the side steps, he could easily make you look silly as the defender. The

:56:29.:56:33.

key for me is being an Olympic sport now with Fiji having won the medal

:56:34.:56:37.

back in Rio, we talk about Saint Andrews being the home of golf, what

:56:38.:56:44.

an asset that is per to be called the sevens rugby, folks were lawyers

:56:45.:56:49.

come to the Greenyards for a pilgrimage of the sevens game. They

:56:50.:56:52.

do and it is growing worldwide, the fact it is now in the Olympics it is

:56:53.:56:57.

huge for the sport. It is amazing for these young Scottish players and

:56:58.:57:00.

the young Harlequins Guidetti, and experience a sevens tournament.

:57:01.:57:06.

Their very first sevens tournament still well supported. Good defence

:57:07.:57:17.

from GHA, they held Lamb and got the turnover. GHA will have the putting

:57:18.:57:26.

at scrum. If you fancy following the sport around the world, the World

:57:27.:57:30.

Cup sevens will be in San Francisco in July next year. If you fancy a

:57:31.:57:37.

trip then start putting away the pound coins, you can't use your old

:57:38.:57:40.

Palm: so will remind you that. Back to the action. -- pound coins.

:57:41.:57:54.

In for the try is Ibitoye. If this game was in any doubt before that I

:57:55.:58:00.

think that is Harlequins safely through. Again urge assuring the

:58:01.:58:08.

physicality that they have and dominating the scrum, shunting GHA

:58:09.:58:11.

oft bearable and then the execution of the basic skills and get enough

:58:12.:58:21.

space for Ibitoye to go over. An unconventional Jokic, three

:58:22.:58:26.

converted tries and Ibitoye got the fourth. Just simple execution from

:58:27.:58:33.

the turnover, draw the defender passed the man in space and repeat.

:58:34.:58:49.

The ball comes back then and the first look at Lewis Jones with a

:58:50.:58:55.

bubbling pass. Waters hit the tackle. Jordan Campbell... Came off

:58:56.:59:06.

Campbell as he tackled, the ball went forward so the Harlequins will

:59:07.:59:12.

have the putting just over the 22. A nice opening game for Harlequins.

:59:13.:59:15.

They have opened up the lungs and stretch their legs but they've not

:59:16.:59:21.

been tested too much. The next game as they progress, if they progress

:59:22.:59:27.

they will be challenged. Sometimes when you are starting first off, GHA

:59:28.:59:31.

with a tie, they haven't had much fluency. Ibitoye comes back. That is

:59:32.:59:36.

the 22, the ball dislodged though. Addison through the wide pass.

:59:37.:59:50.

Cameron King bringing it down the nearside. Nowhere to go, the Quins

:59:51.:59:59.

defence up well, pressing. Six Quins players at the bottom of the

:00:00.:00:04.

picture, the sweeper being used. Jonas Mikalcius. If you work hard

:00:05.:00:11.

together to get the defensive line set and we can see Harlequins, the

:00:12.:00:16.

spacing between players is good. They can apply pressure

:00:17.:00:22.

collectively. GHA looking for a sidestep and space but there isn't

:00:23.:00:27.

any. When you attack from deep, it is hard, especially under pressure.

:00:28.:00:33.

Harlequins have the additional pace. They almost breakthrough with the

:00:34.:00:36.

off-load, GHA. GHA losing any shape they may have

:00:37.:01:01.

had in attack, being swamped by the Harlequins defence. The fact

:01:02.:01:06.

Harlequins have extra pace, it means GHA do not have the luxury of giving

:01:07.:01:12.

it to the quick guy to make yards and the physicality that served

:01:13.:01:16.

Harlequins well in the first half, forcing another turnover. Charlie

:01:17.:01:20.

Walker showing class. A hat-trick for Charlie Walker. Showing his

:01:21.:01:26.

class all around in this young academy team. They try built from

:01:27.:01:31.

their defence, relentless, not letting GHA out of their own half.

:01:32.:01:38.

Once they win the turnover, the GHA defends slightly disjointed. You

:01:39.:01:42.

could see the communication fell on deaf ears. Charlie Walker canters

:01:43.:01:43.

through the gap. On the day of the Grand National,

:01:44.:01:57.

cantering. They will be running faster at Aintree and certainly the

:01:58.:02:00.

Harlequins players when put under pressure. Edinburgh Accies were

:02:01.:02:08.

looking strong in the game before Harlequins and that is who

:02:09.:02:12.

Harlequins face next. That will be a great game to get us into the second

:02:13.:02:18.

of the quarterfinals. Edinburgh Aki 's winning 40-19 over Stirling

:02:19.:02:30.

County. It has been a very convincing start by Quins.

:02:31.:02:37.

Jericevich fed the outside to Addison. Addison has had experience

:02:38.:02:44.

on the Scotland circuit. GHA switched play from Ross Findlay.

:02:45.:03:00.

Jericevich with that reverse flip pass to Campbell, who has space. He

:03:01.:03:08.

will need support. Across here, the Quins sweeper. James Laing making a

:03:09.:03:17.

good tackle for Quins. Harlequins are quick to get their defensive

:03:18.:03:23.

line set. They do not miss many tackles, if any, which makes it hard

:03:24.:03:28.

for GHA, who have kept the ball effectively put it is breaking the

:03:29.:03:33.

Harlequins defence down. A challenge for Edinburgh Accies in the next

:03:34.:03:40.

game. They have not had the pace to match Quins, who have all-round

:03:41.:03:46.

athleticism and their structure in the game has denied GHA space. You

:03:47.:03:50.

cannot fault GHA's effort, they have continued to try. It is the

:03:51.:03:54.

physicality in defence and extra pace as we see another breakaway try

:03:55.:04:03.

from our Lithuanian friend, Jonas Mikalcius. The Quins spotted this

:04:04.:04:11.

youngster a couple of years ago in Exeter. That is the full-time score.

:04:12.:04:17.

The conversion will not count because the final whistle has gone.

:04:18.:04:23.

Confirmation, Harlequins winning brat, 38-0.

:04:24.:04:31.

The Harlequins coach is with me. Some what it means to be part of the

:04:32.:04:42.

tournament. It is an honour. It is our 150th year. Coming here is a

:04:43.:04:48.

massive thing. You are the stellar name in the drawer and I assume you

:04:49.:04:55.

are here to win it. You can see they have been playing 15s a lot. A lot

:04:56.:05:00.

of contact. I was impressed with Edinburgh Accies. They will give us

:05:01.:05:04.

a test in the next round. Best of luck. We come to the fifth

:05:05.:05:11.

round of round two. Selkirk and GSI. Selkirk off to the left. Visitors

:05:12.:05:28.

GSI, which is a composite team brought together by a former Gala

:05:29.:05:48.

player and captain, Richie Gray. This fella can run. Just a bit too

:05:49.:05:54.

fast and slick in the opening minutes of this tie. He touches

:05:55.:06:00.

down. He gets the first score on the board.

:06:01.:06:11.

Global Sport Innovation. Over goes the conversion from Alan Holden.

:06:12.:06:21.

Bill, lovely to share your company and what a splendid day, we even

:06:22.:06:27.

have the windows out in the commentary box. We will hear a lot

:06:28.:06:32.

from this talented and fast individual. A lot of the players,

:06:33.:06:41.

you can see why. Alan Holden again. Look at the

:06:42.:06:54.

sidestep on this lad. Are they as quick as the previous team,

:06:55.:06:58.

Harlequins? I wonder. Over for a try. Victor Pizzano. I think they

:06:59.:07:09.

have changed their jersey numbers. We will find out in a minute who it

:07:10.:07:13.

was. Look at this lad. He plays for Bristol. If he was a couple of

:07:14.:07:21.

inches taller, he would have got the score himself. Selkirk, even early

:07:22.:07:26.

on, losing shape. I do not know what they are thinking at the moment.

:07:27.:07:33.

They have played a lot of good sevens. Nixon, one example. Selkirk

:07:34.:07:43.

need to try to work that little bit harder, otherwise GSI, it will be

:07:44.:07:51.

one-way traffic. It is indeed. Number three for GSI is Josh

:07:52.:08:05.

Longson. Releasing the tackle by the guest side. Perfect for sevens. This

:08:06.:08:22.

guy can run. Adams, from South Africa. Look at him go. Nobody can

:08:23.:08:26.

catch this fella. What a piece of running. He was chased, he just got

:08:27.:08:37.

there. Adams gets a try for Selkirk. That was a fine piece of running. It

:08:38.:08:42.

certainly was. He has had a great season. Playing very well. He has a

:08:43.:08:51.

bit of gas. Almost gave him the commentator's curse. The saying he

:08:52.:08:58.

will catch up. But arriving in the nick of time. An important try.

:08:59.:09:04.

Unfortunately, the missed conversion, which could be vital.

:09:05.:09:10.

Did you ever run as far as that for a try in your career? Definitely

:09:11.:09:22.

not. I saw the footage before. Mikey Davis with the restart. This is

:09:23.:09:37.

mainly university students. Selkirk in white, pressing up, but trailing.

:09:38.:09:53.

Alan Holden is one of these several peace men in that side.

:09:54.:10:04.

They have done well. It is funny sevens, the GSI team looks like they

:10:05.:10:12.

had the upper hand at the start, scoring from the kick-off but credit

:10:13.:10:17.

where it is due, Selkirk are back into this game. Sticking to a nice

:10:18.:10:18.

structure. Clapperton with the put in. What a

:10:19.:10:45.

score by Selkirk's winger. The gap narrows. Second try for Adams. An

:10:46.:10:50.

individual try. He saw what he had to do. He backed himself. Enough

:10:51.:11:03.

momentum to slide along the ground and get the all important try that

:11:04.:11:08.

brings Selkirk right back into this game. The conversion went wide. That

:11:09.:11:14.

is the man of the moment. Strongly built, very fast and a great asset

:11:15.:11:20.

to Selkirk rugby this season. Looking for professional rugby, he

:11:21.:11:26.

was telling me. Anywhere at all. I do not know if the professional

:11:27.:11:30.

scouts are looking at Melrose Sevens today to see if they can spy any

:11:31.:11:37.

potential will stop meanwhile, the big burly forward takes the restart.

:11:38.:11:51.

The pass dipped. He just felt himself losing his balance.

:11:52.:11:54.

Kick-offs have been vital in the games. The captain of the GSI side,

:11:55.:12:03.

Nixon named the Barrel, a stocky individual, winning the ball, but

:12:04.:12:11.

unfortunately losing it. Davis again. Can this guy get his

:12:12.:12:20.

hat-trick? Clapperton really is the Mikey Davis, the two masterminds of

:12:21.:12:27.

this Selkirk seven. Davis, look at the balance. I love watching that.

:12:28.:12:40.

They can skip and dance beautifully these wee fellas. It is half-time.

:12:41.:12:50.

The GSI 7 lead Selkirk 14-10. And we have had tremendous action in the

:12:51.:12:54.

opening ties of this lovely afternoon at the Greenyards.

:12:55.:13:11.

Just look at that backdrop and the scores from round two so far.

:13:12.:13:34.

Watsonians comfortably through. Currie and Jed had a great tie and

:13:35.:13:38.

last year's finalist Jed-forest out in that time. Edinburgh Accies

:13:39.:13:47.

looked very businesslike. Harlequins looking good against GHA. It is

:13:48.:13:55.

half-time in GSI 7 against Selkirk. Other great ties coming up over the

:13:56.:14:00.

next part of the afternoon. Big George is alongside me, keeping the

:14:01.:14:05.

right and looking resplendent in his tartan suit. Feeling a bit heart at

:14:06.:14:11.

the moment, Bill, feeling a little out of place in the commentary box

:14:12.:14:18.

in this tartan suit. The pick at the moment, the Edinburgh Aki 's team

:14:19.:14:23.

doing well. Harlequins. GSI did well in the first half, but it is not

:14:24.:14:33.

over yet. Selkirk, four points adrift at the moment. But this game

:14:34.:14:40.

is wide open. Anything could happen. It would be a feather in the cap of

:14:41.:14:44.

Selkirk if they could put this team away. Mikey Davis was chased hard by

:14:45.:14:52.

Harrison. The guest side looked good in practice and trading this week,

:14:53.:15:05.

finding it hard to break clear. Amidst the chaos. Selkirk have

:15:06.:15:06.

regrouped. The opportunities are happening.

:15:07.:15:17.

Selkirk are the favourites of the crowd here at Melrose, who tend to

:15:18.:15:23.

favour the Borders sides because there are not many left in the

:15:24.:15:29.

tournament at the moment. Selkirk were runners-up. They lost to

:15:30.:15:37.

Hawick. Selkirk in white looking business.

:15:38.:15:55.

Very nice pass out wide. These Selkirk numbers I have to be honest,

:15:56.:16:00.

I think that was a replacement who came on. Josh Wells or McEwan. They

:16:01.:16:07.

have kept the pace man on, he is just down below us, Adams. Goes

:16:08.:16:16.

down. Clapperton again. Takes it to the main stand. Here is Nixon. A

:16:17.:16:27.

penalty just when they didn't want it, so an opportunity for the guest

:16:28.:16:29.

side to score again and open up. Quick play here, possibly not the

:16:30.:16:47.

best pay. Very fortunately they have won the ball back. Davis almost got

:16:48.:16:54.

away there, Mark Harrison pulled him down. They come Selkirk again,

:16:55.:17:02.

careful and cautious and they just need to take their time building.

:17:03.:17:08.

That was Josh whilst trying to burst through. Here they go again.

:17:09.:17:15.

Sidestep, a desperate time here, Selkirk on the up and up. Half a

:17:16.:17:21.

metre short of the try line. Must be a score. That puts them ahead by one

:17:22.:17:31.

point. They worked very hard for that. Some passing behind which we

:17:32.:17:38.

saw in previous games not working well. It went to hand there. Very

:17:39.:17:53.

well worked try. Very difficult. It brings Selkirk writes back into the

:17:54.:18:00.

game. If Davies can pop over the conversion that will give them a

:18:01.:18:03.

lift. Doesn't get much closer than that. 15-14.

:18:04.:18:16.

A lovely off-load their in the build-up. Just the backpass there

:18:17.:18:20.

which created the momentum to go forward. And then the big fellow

:18:21.:18:28.

Ross Nixon over and down. Lovely. So the restart again. Ollie Hudson,

:18:29.:18:44.

taps it back. Long Sun to Jimmy Neill.

:18:45.:18:50.

This is the Niemand Cameron Ness who came in as a late edition --

:18:51.:18:59.

Niemand. One of the players hurt his ankle in training yesterday. Credit

:19:00.:19:04.

where credit is due, the GSI boys are competing very well. They've all

:19:05.:19:09.

come from different universities and backgrounds, they have been together

:19:10.:19:13.

for a day up in Edinburgh. They have seen the delights of her and they

:19:14.:19:18.

are competing well and Selkirk be to know this.

:19:19.:19:23.

Calum McEwan at scrum-half. Here is Nixon, has he found another way

:19:24.:19:30.

through? Great score coming up, that is the winner. A lovely try for Matt

:19:31.:19:38.

Robertson. Great stuff there by the borderers. 20-14. These boots are

:19:39.:19:51.

working well. Just didn't have the gas to get there but we talk about

:19:52.:19:55.

it, the supporters needed and the support was certainly there are not

:19:56.:20:01.

a beautiful trophy. He should take his time. I think they have 30 or 40

:20:02.:20:08.

seconds to take the conversion. Six points of the lead with a couple of

:20:09.:20:13.

minutes to go. 20-14. Selkirk lead. That was almost

:20:14.:20:30.

another there. Some of the people in Melrose will

:20:31.:20:47.

be wondering why Selkirk are wearing Melrose strips, that is because

:20:48.:20:52.

there was a colour clash. Selkirk are actually in the white strip

:20:53.:20:55.

there which is a Melrose change strip. Here is Jimmy Neill would put

:20:56.:21:04.

in for GSI sevens. Look at Selkirk getting stuck in. A nice wee tap

:21:05.:21:12.

back. There is Clapperton. The old head of the operation who has Adams

:21:13.:21:15.

out wide if they care to use him, this lad can run. Here it goes

:21:16.:21:29.

again. Robertson. Is that is Nixon away? Ross Nixon again. Supported

:21:30.:21:35.

thereby Callum McEwan. McEwan are snapping at the heels. Huge ball.

:21:36.:21:45.

Robinson again. Adams on the left. Robertson in at the corner almost.

:21:46.:21:52.

Great pictures there from the cameras write-down in corner.

:21:53.:21:58.

Selkirk not releasing so a penalty coming the way of the guest side.

:21:59.:22:10.

Quite exciting stuff this, sorry to butt him but we have a time clock on

:22:11.:22:13.

our monitor here and am having a look around the Greenyards here and

:22:14.:22:21.

I don't think oh there is. The players know that as the full-time

:22:22.:22:27.

or the playing time of 40 minutes up. It is indeed because Darren

:22:28.:22:33.

Clapperton is in no two minds about what he would do with that. He belts

:22:34.:22:39.

its right into the stand and so a bit of a surprise package. Selkirk

:22:40.:22:44.

go through into the quarterfinal because they have beaten the guest

:22:45.:22:45.

side GSI sevens by 20-14. The Selkirk coach with me, your boys

:22:46.:22:59.

came back well? They did and they stuck in it. You

:23:00.:23:04.

don't know what to expect from GSI is so we were fortunate to have some

:23:05.:23:08.

luck together. We have a strong squad today so I'm pleased. Any

:23:09.:23:18.

thoughts how far you can go? It's a tough tournament. A lot of strong

:23:19.:23:22.

side to side I'm going to take it one day at a time. All credit to the

:23:23.:23:26.

lads, a great victory against the guest side.

:23:27.:23:30.

Probably a good result for the competition, Selkirk through and the

:23:31.:23:40.

next Melrose side up, only two left, it's now Melrose versus Dundee.

:23:41.:23:47.

Melrose in the yellow strip and it's their ground. Lots to play for.

:23:48.:23:59.

Dundee deepen their own 22 trying run it. A loose good kick past.

:24:00.:24:22.

Inside to the big number and don't be cocky young fellow. Does a little

:24:23.:24:30.

dance and we spoke about colour clashes and this is important is

:24:31.:24:34.

Scott Hastings. As a Zach Line of dancing. What a great shrine.

:24:35.:24:40.

Sometimes in seven to just after back yourself and George Arnott, the

:24:41.:24:45.

number one he liked that one. Not so sure about the dance afterwards.

:24:46.:24:53.

Part and parcel of sevens rugby. If and you know it, you've got to clap

:24:54.:25:00.

your hands. But he's happy, he knew it and he did this. Arnott with his

:25:01.:25:07.

head down here smiling. Pointing to what could be friends in the crowd

:25:08.:25:14.

and that is a belly flop. And here's the little dance as well. The icing

:25:15.:25:21.

on top of the cake. I think that is maybe try of the day before we have

:25:22.:25:26.

even started. It is a serious business though, Melrose cannot

:25:27.:25:35.

afford not to progress. Another kick through, desperate stakes to defend.

:25:36.:25:43.

Selkirk will play the winners of this match and at the moment Dundee

:25:44.:25:51.

7-0 up. Then eaten possession to settle themselves down and if they

:25:52.:25:54.

can get a try on the board than am sure the crowd will react

:25:55.:26:03.

accordingly. Man without the ball. It was Watts out to the side.

:26:04.:26:13.

Godsmark -- Godsmark. Finds plenty of bodies. Hess on the outside. A

:26:14.:26:29.

cracking tackle there. This is good play by Melrose. From Hess, a little

:26:30.:26:43.

outside break to Luckington. Looks inside and tried to feeding Craig

:26:44.:26:52.

Jackson. Penalties as the referee. You can just see how Melrose are

:26:53.:26:58.

building the ways of attack. Austin Luckington sounds and MI5 employee.

:26:59.:27:05.

You confuse the government agency with a motorway. There is the try

:27:06.:27:12.

down the left-hand side. Melrose back in the van. Godsmark, such

:27:13.:27:20.

experience in the Scotland jersey as well, cut back on the angle, the

:27:21.:27:26.

ball just comes back here, the great use of space because it was taken

:27:27.:27:46.

and. Look at the view though. They have flags in the wind and this is

:27:47.:27:54.

how they build and build. Some quick passing from passing down the

:27:55.:27:59.

left-hand side for a well crafted try as you say. The ball put

:28:00.:28:04.

straight out so done do back on the attack. That's just poor rugby.

:28:05.:28:15.

Juice gives possession right back to Melrose. Little dancing steps.

:28:16.:28:30.

Trying to get the ball into space, picked up by Lockington. Melrose

:28:31.:28:37.

dominating now. Laid off to the left. A long looping pass. As to

:28:38.:28:48.

collect his thoughts. Quick possession and has to come back. A

:28:49.:28:53.

little dummy from Iain Moody and that is another try. As you say

:28:54.:28:59.

Dundee kicked the ball away and if you kick the ball away that is what

:29:00.:29:06.

will happen. Possession is key, Melrose capitalising on good player

:29:07.:29:11.

and normally a step back from Hess, again look at where the spaces,

:29:12.:29:17.

always on the flanks. The dummy pass was shown by Moodie. Melrose after

:29:18.:29:30.

that early frights, they did this good little dummy as Moodie, a big

:29:31.:29:36.

strong lad, interesting when you watch the pros play they are

:29:37.:29:39.

normally bigger than some of the club players but Melrose looking fit

:29:40.:29:41.

and strong. Jackson is a flyer. Great off-loads

:29:42.:29:57.

to Nyle Godsmark. You can see that Melrose are stringing together the

:29:58.:30:05.

passes. Big hit, good tackle. He is gently still rubbing his ribs. A

:30:06.:30:13.

running down the left. Irvine-Hess again to Jackson, Jackson

:30:14.:30:18.

intercepted all the way back by Blake Cochrane from Dundee high

:30:19.:30:25.

school. A penalty to Melrose. -- Blair Cochrane. Pecqueur, lovely

:30:26.:30:33.

step, that is what happens. Lockington. The tackle may have

:30:34.:30:42.

given Dundee a breather. But Melrose are going through the gears. Since

:30:43.:30:47.

Dundee kicked all the way they have not had the ball, Melrose dominating

:30:48.:30:52.

possession, and getting the one on one mismatch. Jackson with the

:30:53.:31:04.

conversion. Good tries. Irvine-Hess moving on and looking at the

:31:05.:31:14.

individual footwork. The back-up play that is going through. And a

:31:15.:31:21.

lot of little bits of interplay from Melrose players. Dundee getting

:31:22.:31:33.

frustrated. 7-19 to Melrose. Lots of Melrose fans having a great day at

:31:34.:31:40.

the Greenyards. There they are, with the yellow strips. It is key for the

:31:41.:31:44.

tournament the likes of Melrose gets through. We have still to see the

:31:45.:31:50.

co-optimists. We have the Quins already. A massive crowd this

:31:51.:31:54.

afternoon. Sometimes in your life it is best to shut your eyes. Melrose

:31:55.:32:11.

retained the possession. Exactly. Next score is crucial. Dundee must

:32:12.:32:21.

score next. Dundee kick-off is knocked on. It will be a scrum to

:32:22.:32:28.

Dundee, inside the Melrose half. What is the difference between these

:32:29.:32:33.

two just now I think it is 12 points! I knew... Purely possession.

:32:34.:32:43.

The way that Melrose look more comfortable on the ball. There is

:32:44.:32:48.

more structure. For me they have been the standout team in club rugby

:32:49.:32:53.

at 15s, can they match it on the sevens field? You have the likes of

:32:54.:33:03.

Pecqueur, Jackson, Irvine-Hess, lots of people who can run. Lockington,

:33:04.:33:11.

ball under the right hand, knocked on. Dundee need to get something on

:33:12.:33:24.

the board quickly. Kaleem Barreto. The referee is not happy. He is

:33:25.:33:31.

going into his pocket. I wonder if we will see this again. I think

:33:32.:33:36.

Kaleem Barreto was just thinking of getting this ball down the pitch.

:33:37.:33:39.

Irvine-Hess has been contracted with Edinburgh. It looks worse than it

:33:40.:33:46.

actually is. He went up originally to charge the kick. He is in the

:33:47.:33:55.

sin-bin. Dangerous play. Isoa Matacagi, number 11. Ronan Joy gave

:33:56.:34:02.

it to Andy Dymock. Melrose possession again. They are a man

:34:03.:34:14.

down, what are they going to do? Jackson. Nailed by two blue jerseys.

:34:15.:34:24.

The ball has been ripped away. Isoa Matacagi just gives Dundee a

:34:25.:34:30.

glimmer, because they have the man advantage. The ball taken off the

:34:31.:34:39.

Melrose players. The next score was crucial. Seven players against these

:34:40.:34:44.

six of Melrose. The conversion is good. Now we have a type. This makes

:34:45.:34:51.

sevens rugby fascinating. Melrose were dominating, Dundee have one

:34:52.:34:55.

back. Tremendous footwork from the Dundee man. He is delighted. They

:34:56.:35:03.

are a man up. Not long until, I think 70 seconds, until Melrose get

:35:04.:35:10.

their man back. I agree, it was not a huge infringement, but they are a

:35:11.:35:15.

man down. The kick-off really important, Dundee need to get bodies

:35:16.:35:22.

under it. Which they did. Dangerous times for Melrose with Dundee

:35:23.:35:29.

possession. Ronan Joy. He had two minds. Smothered by yellow jerseys.

:35:30.:35:39.

Kaleem Barreto looking up. Daniel Levison, well, my goodness, Scott

:35:40.:35:44.

Hastings, this is Melrose in trouble at their own tournament. 19 apiece.

:35:45.:35:55.

Dangerous times. Dundee have done well, tremendous passing out wide.

:35:56.:36:02.

The line was at his call and he backed himself. Conversion really

:36:03.:36:10.

important here. It would be a tremendous conversion if he got it,

:36:11.:36:17.

look at the angle. Andy Dymock. All square. Great pass, the pass made

:36:18.:36:25.

the tribe for me. Melrose are back up to seven with

:36:26.:36:41.

three minutes left. Intercepted by Nyle Godsmark. Much better for

:36:42.:36:48.

Melrose. Nyle Godsmark confident, distributes the ball. Jason Baggott

:36:49.:36:55.

is over and that is what happens when you get the ball from the

:36:56.:37:00.

kick-off and your good players are in possession. Jason Baggott might

:37:01.:37:05.

have ranked the winning try, without any doubt. Tremendous. -- might have

:37:06.:37:09.

backed it. Really standout play. Individual

:37:10.:37:24.

skill. Yes, you can have pace and brawn, but it is these stepping

:37:25.:37:29.

ability that can beat the men one-on-one and Melrose back in

:37:30.:37:35.

control. This was the start, Jason Baggott, comes back inside, strong

:37:36.:37:42.

and big enough. Gets as far behind the posts as he can. Melrose

:37:43.:37:50.

comfortably seven points ahead. The sun behind them. Look to be knocked

:37:51.:37:57.

on by Alasdair Mackie. The referee says play on. Rutnagur. Caught in

:37:58.:38:12.

the grasp of Nyle Godsmark. It will be a Melrose scrum. You look at two

:38:13.:38:20.

great passes from Dundee to stretch that, but Melrose squeezed down the

:38:21.:38:24.

space, made the tackle, forced the turnover. A minute and easing

:38:25.:38:31.

Melrose in possession, they should see out this time. If they can keep

:38:32.:38:35.

possession the next 60 seconds, they are through to the next round.

:38:36.:38:43.

Quite a wind going right to left, so they have the sun and wind behind

:38:44.:38:54.

them. A little bit of bravery here. Great bravery from Pecqueur. He

:38:55.:38:59.

thought about it, took his man on the outside after being put wide by

:39:00.:39:04.

Lockington and Melrose, that will be then, I think, through to the next

:39:05.:39:10.

round. A great type, seesaw action. Dundee pegging it back to 19-19, but

:39:11.:39:19.

Melrose, Pecqueur stretching the Melrose lead. That sees them into

:39:20.:39:23.

the quarterfinal. This will be the final act at of this enthralling

:39:24.:39:33.

game. Final score looks to be Dundee 19-31 Melrose. Good game, good

:39:34.:39:47.

tries. We can get to Andy. The Melrose head coach with me. A

:39:48.:39:50.

lot of relieved people you are through. Tough. The first ones are

:39:51.:39:58.

harder! A little nervous. It is good we have got through that and we will

:39:59.:40:03.

see how we go. How important for the tournament is it the home side

:40:04.:40:07.

remains to the latter stages? It is important, but we will take it one

:40:08.:40:13.

step at a time. Good luck in the next round.

:40:14.:40:22.

Next up sees another guest team, Co-optimists against Boroughmuir.

:40:23.:40:30.

Look at this setting. The teams are out. Boroughmuir on the right of

:40:31.:40:38.

your picture and they beat Peebles in Round 1 by 33-14. The

:40:39.:40:47.

Co-optimists, they were in the white jerseys, they are a seeded team and

:40:48.:40:54.

so they are in round two. The Scottish Co-optimists, but laced

:40:55.:41:00.

with Irish men. We have a former international sevens player in the

:41:01.:41:05.

commentary box. That was a nice introduction. Also a winner here,

:41:06.:41:13.

you forgot to say. But with the Co-ops. 93. I thought you were going

:41:14.:41:23.

to remind me 1997, when Melrose beat Watsonians. I played in that one.

:41:24.:41:34.

Lennon one of the Irish development players.

:41:35.:41:45.

Steve Toal-Lennon, first had sight of him in Monaco when he was playing

:41:46.:41:53.

with the Irish team in the prequalifying tournament.

:41:54.:42:07.

Boroughmuir flying into the contact but the Co-optimists seeing if they

:42:08.:42:14.

can get the ball out wide. Taking the ball back in. Good play. Keenan.

:42:15.:42:30.

What a lovely try from Hugo Keenan. One of the best of the day at

:42:31.:42:35.

individual skill. Carved open the Boroughmuir difference. Very much.

:42:36.:42:40.

One of the best individual tries we have seen so far, by Keenan. Puts

:42:41.:42:51.

his side in the lead just after two minutes. It was even up to this

:42:52.:42:58.

stage. There was no give. Playing between the 22s. There was one

:42:59.:43:00.

break, he saw the gap. A clean pair of heels right under

:43:01.:43:14.

the posts. Toal-Lennon with the conversion is good, but Hugo Keenan,

:43:15.:43:20.

well, he is part of the Yazidi and Leinster Academy and he showed his

:43:21.:43:32.

class. Here is the try scorer. -- Yazidi. You cannot afford to miss

:43:33.:43:37.

tackles against quality players like this. He is one of the young kids.

:43:38.:43:44.

He was part of the Irish squad that went to Portugal and was in a

:43:45.:43:50.

training camp in February against Spain and Portugal. Again, the gas

:43:51.:43:57.

coming on. Number 10. Greg O'Shea. A young development player from the

:43:58.:44:03.

Shannon club, part of the Munster Academy. It is the pace that is

:44:04.:44:08.

ripping this Boroughmuir side. You say that, but it was like when you

:44:09.:44:14.

scored the try is take the glory. From the kick-off, the forwards

:44:15.:44:18.

winning the ball. Passing to the slinky boys at the back, like

:44:19.:44:25.

yourself, and you take the glory! That was fascinating, from the

:44:26.:44:29.

second row, like myself, seeing someone leaping to get hold of the

:44:30.:44:35.

ball. To see the vision of O'Shea, at speed. You never got off your

:44:36.:44:42.

legs even in a line-out. This is another look at the try. Tremendous.

:44:43.:44:45.

Taking a leap. But it is a skill in its own right.

:44:46.:44:54.

It starts from the kick-off here. A knock-on there, Matthew Walker to

:44:55.:45:14.

grab the ball but the ball knocked on and once again Boroughmuir

:45:15.:45:22.

haven't had the ball to have any influence. Connors, good bit of

:45:23.:45:32.

competition in the air for Boroughmuir to knock it on and

:45:33.:45:34.

ultimately get the ball back. This is a third travel Toal-Lennon

:45:35.:45:54.

and they are making it look so easy. Co-Optimists are making

:45:55.:45:56.

opportunities there, again setups by the forwards. Toal-Lennon they're

:45:57.:46:07.

showing a nice clean pair of heels. Co-Optimists looking good. They have

:46:08.:46:14.

a bit of gas there. Three forwards in sevens and fallbacks. Tries by

:46:15.:46:19.

Keenan and Greg O'Shea and that man there, Toal-Lennon. Certainly high

:46:20.:46:31.

but not got the direction. A healthy lead for the Co-Optimists, looking

:46:32.:46:35.

at this they are staying big and powerful. Didn't see that before

:46:36.:46:41.

will miss all the melee. You could see a missed tackle from

:46:42.:46:47.

Boroughmuir. You have to try to keep a hold of them. That didn't happen

:46:48.:46:52.

and it allowed Toal-Lennon just to get away and a clean pair of heels

:46:53.:46:56.

to score a very important try for Co-Optimists. Another good

:46:57.:47:05.

scrum-half. A knock-on there. Still the same tactic, that is the

:47:06.:47:27.

way that it is working. Just a knock-on that time didn't get the

:47:28.:47:32.

rub of the green. We haven't seen Boroughmuir in the Co-Optimists half

:47:33.:47:38.

although here is their chance. Boroughmuir breaking out and on the

:47:39.:47:45.

wide outside is Jordan Edmonds. He has had a sparkling season and gets

:47:46.:48:00.

one back for Boroughmuir. I'm just having a look. Once again. That

:48:01.:48:16.

young man there, the top try scorer in the tournament so far.

:48:17.:48:21.

Boroughmuir winning the opening tie 33-14. He had three about one and

:48:22.:48:28.

here is his fourth one. Half-time here. 17-5. 50 years ago back in 19

:48:29.:48:45.

57 they won the ladies cup and I been told by the Melrose boys to

:48:46.:48:48.

remind that they haven't won it since. They're having a celebratory

:48:49.:48:52.

lunch today and Alec Jackson and Welsh are here today. You played in

:48:53.:48:57.

the final say give us a sense of the memories from that day. For myself

:48:58.:49:03.

it was utterly unbelievable because I was the last person who played for

:49:04.:49:09.

them in the sevens and my brother had previously tried and not got a

:49:10.:49:12.

Melrose medal so for me I was lucky to be in the right place at the

:49:13.:49:16.

right time. It was tremendous, it's really was. Something I will never

:49:17.:49:21.

forget. It's important to win this for any rugby player but when you

:49:22.:49:24.

come from a whole week and you have this rivalry? Melrose with a big

:49:25.:49:30.

want to win, the Melrose medal. Thereof a lot of good rugby players

:49:31.:49:36.

who don't have Melrose medals and I managed two of them. 66 and 67 and

:49:37.:49:44.

that is the time. Happy days and I'm sure you're happy to remind them all

:49:45.:49:50.

about it here. It's a lovely idea, 50 ideas celebrating your great

:49:51.:49:53.

achievement for those many years ago and I have to say looking very well.

:49:54.:50:02.

Can't complain really. There is no forwards here and fortunately. They

:50:03.:50:06.

are the work courses. They really are. That is the telling thing. The

:50:07.:50:13.

forwards won the ball and we did the running and I was it. And take the

:50:14.:50:18.

glory as well. Boys have a magic day.

:50:19.:50:27.

COMMENTATOR: Well that was 50 years ago. Some tremendous shots there. It

:50:28.:50:32.

means so much to everybody who competed. You are spot on, the

:50:33.:50:36.

footage there of the boys it shows you how special getting a winner 's

:50:37.:50:40.

medal at Melrose was then and still is now. The co-optimists well in the

:50:41.:50:54.

lead here. The ball picked up. Look at that little slip past. Didn't

:50:55.:51:01.

quite get it outside. Boroughmuir have to reset the line. Co-Optimists

:51:02.:51:12.

have meant out. Stretching play and that was Route 14 Connors wasn't it.

:51:13.:51:20.

The breakaway comes from lead lot. Helter-skelter staff. Ripping the

:51:21.:51:30.

ball away was Ronan care. The dwell there. Boroughmuir need to get some

:51:31.:51:39.

wit, not getting in much space down the tight angles. Just a lack of

:51:40.:51:50.

concentration. He saw the eyes just moving off the ball there. Looking

:51:51.:52:00.

at the wrong thing. All down to himself. Had it in the hands. Should

:52:01.:52:04.

have caught that. A nice easy pass. You have to feel sorry for him.

:52:05.:52:10.

Should have been taken Lescott. Allows Co-Optimists a scrum in a

:52:11.:52:16.

competitive place. Toal-Lennon gets the pass away but a knock-on there.

:52:17.:52:23.

I don't know if it is the weather or something, we have seen quite a lot

:52:24.:52:31.

of unforced errors. A couple in the last 20 seconds, whether the heat is

:52:32.:52:41.

playing a part. These games all about accuracy when the skills are

:52:42.:52:49.

always under the microscope. That ball Lucas saying out of the tunnel

:52:50.:52:51.

-- ricocheting. Not a real scrum how it used to be.

:52:52.:53:03.

Scrum is generally filled by centres and wingers nowadays. Who haven't a

:53:04.:53:09.

clue about the tough stuff. Tackle on the far side. Now Boroughmuir get

:53:10.:53:17.

to the ten metre line. Under pressure and the ball bouncing away

:53:18.:53:24.

there. A little chip and run. Boroughmuir got back well there.

:53:25.:53:30.

That certainly wasn't the correct path. Plenty of space, plenty of

:53:31.:53:40.

time. If he was able to pick that ball up, a lot of support coming in.

:53:41.:53:50.

Just the same as the first task Boroughmuir struggling to get any

:53:51.:53:55.

territory and having to attack deep. They're super tackle therefrom

:53:56.:54:04.

Keenan. Boroughmuir up to the ten yard line. Nice bit of skill there.

:54:05.:54:11.

The pass hasn't found his man and Sam Johnstone. Now Boroughmuir still

:54:12.:54:18.

with a ball in hand. That is the ten metre line. Was that a little bit

:54:19.:54:21.

high? Play on says the referee. The referee is a man from wiki who

:54:22.:54:37.

has been at many of the Melrose seven. Doesn't seem to be too

:54:38.:54:44.

affected. Turnover though from Hodson for the Co-Optimists. They

:54:45.:54:48.

have numbers over here and surely this is a running however a forward

:54:49.:54:53.

pass and again that accuracy of skill that we talk about we thought

:54:54.:55:05.

there was a high tackle we might get a replay so we can maybe see it. You

:55:06.:55:10.

are correct the accuracy is what this game is all about. The accuracy

:55:11.:55:14.

and support and keeping the momentum going. You're spot-on with that.

:55:15.:55:21.

They just seem to be taking on contact and playing a bit too slow.

:55:22.:55:27.

Switch play the over they pass by Chris Ludlow. Wraparound play by

:55:28.:55:35.

Matthew Walker. Boroughmuir desperate to try to find space. Big

:55:36.:55:43.

tackle that came in there from David Busby. Look at the White line of the

:55:44.:55:52.

Toal-Lennon putting pressure on Boroughmuir. Having to work so hard

:55:53.:55:57.

to puncture this defence. They seem to be very keen to take on the

:55:58.:56:04.

tackle. It isn't giving them the momentum they deserve. The off-load

:56:05.:56:10.

pass was built there by Gavin well she came off the bench. As you say,

:56:11.:56:17.

they got awfully cluttered and honey potted into the midfielder. The talk

:56:18.:56:27.

about midfielder in, it's fine if it works as long as they get their

:56:28.:56:31.

hands on it. Dropped a very vital part in the game there. The skill

:56:32.:56:43.

set, great crowd in the background enjoying the sunshine and these

:56:44.:56:45.

Toal-Lennon will be enjoying this. The captain with the cap on.

:56:46.:56:51.

Interestingly enough coach of the Cyprus international team and

:56:52.:56:56.

Toal-Lennon has another run and this is his second try. That'll be the

:56:57.:57:04.

Co-Optimists touching down on the full-time whistle and that'll be all

:57:05.:57:15.

of the action here. 22-5, it was Toal-Lennon who wrapped up the

:57:16.:57:27.

victory for the Co-Optimists. Final confirmation and Toal-Lennon leading

:57:28.:57:35.

22-5. I'm joined by the coach, how would you rate the performance? Not

:57:36.:57:40.

bad, the first outing for them today so things will always be a little

:57:41.:57:44.

bit rusty, first game fever, hopefully we will build on that

:57:45.:57:49.

moving into game two. How much preparation time have you had? They

:57:50.:57:53.

arrived yesterday so not a lot of prep time. The boys been training

:57:54.:57:59.

hard so we know the game and know the plan. Just a case of trying to

:58:00.:58:02.

put this behind us. Good luck. And here we are then, the final

:58:03.:58:27.

match in the second round and probably the most emotional game of

:58:28.:58:31.

the day, the suite on the right and there was a minute 's silence before

:58:32.:58:38.

the game -- Swedes. The silence to note the horrors that befell

:58:39.:58:42.

Stockholm last night. That is the Swedish team.

:58:43.:58:54.

and white. Herriot in possession. Carmichael again. Semple in

:58:55.:59:24.

possession. Looks as though he may have coughed up the ball. Taking the

:59:25.:59:31.

ball into hands to give it to Fransen. Out to no instead. Write

:59:32.:59:41.

down the right wing is Nunstead. Well picked up it is a try. You can

:59:42.:59:47.

hear the result. And that applause from the crowd.

:59:48.:00:02.

Is no substitute the pace. Nunstedt on the outside. Boisseau was unable

:00:03.:00:11.

to get there. Great footwork and keeping the ball alive. Great work

:00:12.:00:17.

from Enstad supporting. Bill Johnson was saying before, very few drop

:00:18.:00:24.

kicks are successful, whereas on the bigger stage you can get these extra

:00:25.:00:30.

two points by making sure these kicks go. Not many teams successful

:00:31.:00:34.

to date with kicks. On the World Series you practise more and for

:00:35.:00:40.

these guys, the drop kick is a dying art, they do not use it often. It is

:00:41.:00:46.

difficult as well when you are tired, which you will be in a sevens

:00:47.:00:48.

match, to get the technique right. Big Jonathan Hector. Sweden in

:00:49.:01:01.

possession. Looking comfortable. Hector. The Swedes are up. Two very

:01:02.:01:45.

quick tries. Not much is expected of this Swedish team and they have come

:01:46.:01:49.

over here and that is two tries. Just going through the phases.

:01:50.:01:54.

Talking about the importance of maintaining possession in sevens.

:01:55.:01:58.

Their basic skills are good. Getting the ball passing accurately. Going

:01:59.:02:05.

through the phases, making Heriot's make tackles and eventually the

:02:06.:02:09.

space opens up. Strong legs from Hector. The conversion was good.

:02:10.:02:22.

Fransson with the easier kick between the posts.

:02:23.:02:44.

That was a great little handoff. Up to the halfway line. Hugh Fraser was

:02:45.:03:02.

isolated. A bit of backchat, I think. Great break from Hugh Fraser

:03:03.:03:11.

but he left his team-mates behind and as a result a straightforward

:03:12.:03:17.

tackle. Disappointing for Heriot's, their first chance to get any sort

:03:18.:03:20.

of possession, get out of their half. The longer ball was flipped

:03:21.:03:36.

out to Martin Hughes. Sweden rampaging at the moment. They have

:03:37.:03:48.

these two tries. Enstad, Enstad is through. He looked like he would

:03:49.:03:52.

give the ball to the left but had confidence in his ability. Three

:03:53.:04:01.

tries. Great recognition from Enstad. Rory Carmichael, the

:04:02.:04:06.

defender out wide. He shows him his back and he is happy to take that.

:04:07.:04:13.

Carmichael wants Enstad to pass and Enstad says no, you have given me

:04:14.:04:23.

the space. Good attack from Enstad. A long conversion from the left-hand

:04:24.:04:31.

side. It is like floating a wet haggis over a dyke. This was the

:04:32.:04:36.

score, as you said, the Heriot's defender. He was round the outside.

:04:37.:04:44.

Comfortable score. The inside defender, you do not want your

:04:45.:04:49.

outside guide to leave you high and dry, it makes it more challenging.

:04:50.:04:55.

Again Herriot is unable to get any sort of possession, but at least

:04:56.:05:01.

they have this scrum. Ideally they will get a school before the end of

:05:02.:05:07.

the half. It would be good to get them back in this game. -- score.

:05:08.:05:30.

17-0, Herriot struggling a bit. Loose ball, picked up really easily

:05:31.:05:40.

by Nunstedt, who is through. The 100th try of the afternoon's

:05:41.:05:46.

proceedings. On half time. Sweden dominating this match. They are

:05:47.:05:50.

indeed. Heriot's with the opportunity to get the ball to the

:05:51.:06:00.

width. The interference with the pass and Nunstedt is quick enough to

:06:01.:06:05.

get over the line. What a day it has been. We have had some fantastic

:06:06.:06:07.

action today. There is what is arguably one of the

:06:08.:06:46.

finest views of rugby ground anywhere in the world. This is where

:06:47.:06:47.

this whole was invented. Sweden have graced the tournament with their

:06:48.:06:54.

presence. Much has happened in their country. They had a minute's silence

:06:55.:06:59.

before proceedings. Sweden dominating, 24-0 up. We are in the

:07:00.:07:07.

middle of a really good game. We have Edinburgh Accies and Quins to

:07:08.:07:12.

come. You can see the wind. The flag fluttering above what is one of the

:07:13.:07:19.

oldest boxes, painted yellow. Sweden now playing into the sun. What a day

:07:20.:07:31.

it is. Absolutely glorious. Just a fantastic setting for an excellent

:07:32.:07:37.

afternoon of rugby sevens. One of the unheralded rugby nations,

:07:38.:07:43.

Sweden. They are giving a Herriot is a lesson, or they did in the first

:07:44.:07:48.

half. Three scores ahead of the opposition. Would that be enough?

:07:49.:07:58.

The next score will be crucial if Heriot's can get momentum back in

:07:59.:08:04.

this game. It was Carmichael through with the break. Sweden back in

:08:05.:08:14.

possession. I think the ball is a little bit slippy. Longer shadows.

:08:15.:08:20.

Look at the shadow of the tree. The sun just setting beneath the

:08:21.:08:26.

commentary box. It gives a special light. There is a special, to the

:08:27.:08:32.

sky. The shadows of the trees. It is a unique setting. It adds another

:08:33.:08:47.

dimension to this game. Bad throw. Intercepted. They scrum to Sweden.

:08:48.:08:56.

There have been good teams. Quins looked like they are a side to

:08:57.:09:04.

watch. Coe are to mists -- co-optimists, also. Edinburgh Accies

:09:05.:09:09.

were very strong in their first game will stop GHA did well to beat

:09:10.:09:15.

Hawick and then Edinburgh Aggies wipes the floor... Harlequins beat

:09:16.:09:24.

GHA. I agree about Harlequins. Melrose did not hit full pace

:09:25.:09:30.

against Dundee but they will get stronger as the tournament

:09:31.:09:35.

progresses. Out to Nunstedt. The Swedes are romping home. That will

:09:36.:09:44.

be 29-0. In these tournaments, I guess you have to start thinking

:09:45.:09:49.

about conserving energy? Yes. This game, again, talking about in Sue

:09:50.:09:57.

have been strong. Heriot's have performed well the last few years at

:09:58.:10:02.

the Greenyards and Melrose Sevens. The pace Nunstedt has shown on

:10:03.:10:12.

occasions, it is a weapon. The Swedish team play a lot together.

:10:13.:10:16.

They have the real understanding, the basic skills are good. The

:10:17.:10:27.

Co-Optimists, some of the Irish team have been in camp in Portugal. The

:10:28.:10:33.

Harlequins have been brought together as a bunch of sprinters.

:10:34.:10:38.

But this is the archetypal country team. Whilst you have not heard of

:10:39.:10:46.

Sweden as a rugby nation, there are invitational tournaments and such a

:10:47.:10:50.

value to just playing games and getting the understanding of what

:10:51.:10:56.

your team-mates do and getting the conditioning required for sevens.

:10:57.:11:04.

Great off-load. It was John Semple. Carmichael has had a good afternoon.

:11:05.:11:13.

Back inside to Stuart Edwards. Hugh Fraser is strong enough. Sweden

:11:14.:11:16.

might have turned this over but no, Heriot's doing their best to keep

:11:17.:11:28.

it. Alex Ball is now on the left wing. John Semple in for a try.

:11:29.:11:42.

Persistence pays off for Heriot's. They have managed to retain

:11:43.:11:47.

possession for a while and it was John Semple recognising there was

:11:48.:11:52.

enough space between the defenders. He has the pace to finish the try. A

:11:53.:12:09.

full-back in the 15s game. That is the latest score. Sweden looking

:12:10.:12:19.

fairly dominant. They do shift the ball quickly.

:12:20.:12:30.

Courage of your convictions, tries the outside break and does the extra

:12:31.:12:38.

role to guarantee the ball. Dennis Melander. Another good tackle.

:12:39.:12:51.

Enstad is away. He gives it to Borg. Good tackle from Carmichael. It is a

:12:52.:13:01.

long way to run. John Semple. And Hugh Fraser, the kick pass. It has

:13:02.:13:07.

been used a couple of times this afternoon. Good break. Stuart

:13:08.:13:19.

Edwards, it was. Rae gave it out. The final pass is enough for the

:13:20.:13:26.

Heriot's try. Heriot's showing what they could have done if they kept

:13:27.:13:30.

hold of possession a little longer, earlier on in the game. Just

:13:31.:13:35.

stretching the Swedish defence. The Swedes have made changes. Giving the

:13:36.:13:42.

bench a run out. Not managed to keep pace with Heriot's. Once you get

:13:43.:13:46.

through to the sweeper, it is the execution, two on one. Levinson is

:13:47.:13:57.

in for George Turner, who was concussed. Love us and a guest

:13:58.:14:02.

player. He for him to get involved, wearing number 16, on because Turner

:14:03.:14:10.

is concussed. You get to pick a player from the team you beat in the

:14:11.:14:13.

first round, if you pick up an injury. Sweden just two delicate

:14:14.:14:24.

off-loads. Good game. Sweden a team to keep your eye on for the rest of

:14:25.:14:29.

the afternoon because they have just beaten Heriot's here. Convincingly.

:14:30.:14:32.

The final score, 31-14. I'm joined by the Swedish coach, sum

:14:33.:14:52.

up how it special it is to be a? Pretty special, a big occasion and

:14:53.:14:56.

there's history behind the Melrose seven so delighted to be here and to

:14:57.:15:01.

get the first result as we have just seen. We are aware of the tragic

:15:02.:15:07.

events in Stockholm, how hard was it for the boys to do this? A lot of

:15:08.:15:14.

than to be too emotionally and it was very tragic. We are getting

:15:15.:15:19.

support from everyone back in Sweden said that is keeping us going.

:15:20.:15:24.

Supported too. The hospitality has been great. Best of luck for the

:15:25.:15:31.

rest of the tournament. Thank you. A very good win for Sweden there.

:15:32.:15:39.

Kelso out, what Sony and is through. Jedforest beaten by Curry.

:15:40.:15:47.

Harlequins through. Selkirk also through, a good performance against

:15:48.:15:56.

the GSI seven. Melrose going through. Who will speak at Scott

:15:57.:16:03.

Hastings at half-time but this is the first quarterfinal.

:16:04.:16:11.

COMMENTATOR: This is a real Edinburgh derby. This would be hotly

:16:12.:16:18.

contested. They won here when they beat Stellenbosch in a great final,

:16:19.:16:23.

42-26 they beat the South Africans that day. Currie have never reached

:16:24.:16:30.

a Melrose final so history if they can edged towards the final here.

:16:31.:16:37.

That's right that there will be concentrating on the quarterfinal

:16:38.:16:41.

and must be a tie because both teams won the preliminary rounds. The man

:16:42.:16:48.

to look out for is Rory Drummond for, he's leading the charge with

:16:49.:16:51.

two tries through spells at the moment. In the shape. Scott McKeen

:16:52.:17:00.

in the sunshine. A dry ball with lovely conditions. These are the

:17:01.:17:05.

conditions they enjoy because they can sidestep and swerve. Rory

:17:06.:17:11.

Drummond up the touchline, swats them off like flies as he made it to

:17:12.:17:16.

the corner, the referee gives the try, first blood to Watsonians. You

:17:17.:17:24.

can see his run in there. A great camera angle here. No inclination

:17:25.:17:32.

from any sites that whatsoever. That was a good try writing the corner

:17:33.:17:36.

there. Three tries now for Rory Drummond. Watsonians top try scorer

:17:37.:17:43.

and I would say one of the top try scorers of the tournament at the

:17:44.:17:47.

moment. He's up there in second place. Jordan Edmonds has four. It

:17:48.:17:54.

was online and had enough heights but just a little bit short. 5-0.

:17:55.:18:01.

Watsonians lead Currie. Seven minutes each way.

:18:02.:18:20.

Young Ferguson restarting. The knock-on. I keep saying this but

:18:21.:18:29.

it's a wonderful kick-off. When you see these boys getting a bit of

:18:30.:18:32.

height on the ball you can see it goes up out of shot there because it

:18:33.:18:36.

has got a bit of height and the camera can't pick it up. Right on

:18:37.:18:41.

the ten yard line and allows the chasers to compete and the important

:18:42.:18:45.

thing in seven Zas we'll know is to keep the ball.

:18:46.:18:53.

McKean had ten tries to his credit at the Gala sevens last week. Top

:18:54.:19:01.

scorer and you can see how beautifully change direction. They

:19:02.:19:04.

stand on the anchors and swing the ball in the opposite direction. Here

:19:05.:19:15.

they go again. McKean goes on a dummy run but Currie are right in

:19:16.:19:18.

their faces so well organised and well marshalled defence by the men

:19:19.:19:25.

in yellow. That is the Currie team. I don't know if we will see that

:19:26.:19:28.

again but a good line and a good defence. No holes. Just that little

:19:29.:19:35.

backpass, difficult to read sometimes. Straight into touch.

:19:36.:19:43.

Smith pops it out, this is Cameron Smith. Strong bustling centre. Here

:19:44.:19:50.

they come again. Currie with tonnes of possession. Charlie shield.

:19:51.:20:01.

Drummond saw the opportunity but just dropped it. The big man you see

:20:02.:20:13.

him. That is Angus Duckett who played for Selkirk on the belt, you

:20:14.:20:20.

can see how low the sunlight is, you have to shield your eyes to get a

:20:21.:20:25.

good picture of the far side. Could be quite interesting, we spoke about

:20:26.:20:28.

it before but tactically you could use the sun so the opposition cannot

:20:29.:20:38.

see the ball. Time will tell. That is what the bench are seeing. They

:20:39.:20:42.

are looking right across the field so the diagonal kick being blocked

:20:43.:20:51.

by the sun, difficult to deal with. Charlie shield for Currie and away

:20:52.:20:58.

goes Rory Smith now. The ten metre line of. Cat and mouse isn't it?

:20:59.:21:06.

Cameron Smith again. Different to pin down. Shield the playmaker. Ran

:21:07.:21:25.

out of space that time. Let's see what the Currie can do. Shield is

:21:26.:21:29.

through. That is a lovely sidestep by Charlie shield. The young

:21:30.:21:35.

19-year-old takes all his time just a touchdown behind the goalposts.

:21:36.:21:40.

That puts the game all square at 5-5. If he had sized 13 feet he

:21:41.:21:53.

could've been over the line there. He has been the pick of curry so

:21:54.:22:00.

far. Just the way he dances around. Makes life difficult for the

:22:01.:22:05.

opposition to catch. Not a lot happening there. Changing direction,

:22:06.:22:10.

one missed tackle we spoke about it can be punishing. And that was the

:22:11.:22:15.

case there with young Charlie shield. Who we are back with the

:22:16.:22:27.

restart and shield has the drop out. Jack Ferguson the catcher and here

:22:28.:22:34.

is big Rory Drummond. McKean gets it infield. And outside him is Tom

:22:35.:22:39.

Hart. Very secure handling there. Isn't it amazing how quickly seven

:22:40.:22:56.

minutes goes when you enjoy yourself? Very much in company and

:22:57.:23:02.

it's very close on this Edinburgh derby. What Sony and is down 5-7.

:23:03.:23:13.

--. Scotty lifted that cup 22 years ago? Why do you think I have grey

:23:14.:23:20.

hair. A fantastic occasion and now this is an Olympic support and to

:23:21.:23:23.

think it started here and we have seen throughout this afternoon, the

:23:24.:23:28.

players love coming here and we do. The setting, the Heritage and the

:23:29.:23:31.

culture and the impact of the tournament, everything is so tight,

:23:32.:23:34.

we have seen some wonderful play. We will see some great games coming up,

:23:35.:23:38.

this is the quarterfinal at the moment and what wet your appetite

:23:39.:23:45.

right now? Edinborough Accies looking good alongside Harlequins,

:23:46.:23:52.

Charlie Walker the outstanding performer. Selkirk versus Melrose

:23:53.:23:56.

you can almost see Selkirk doing that but Sweden played some great

:23:57.:24:00.

rugby but up against one of the guest sides who also look good. The

:24:01.:24:05.

Scottish Co-Optomists in disguise because there are some Irishman

:24:06.:24:10.

playing today. The Swedes in particular were interesting to watch

:24:11.:24:14.

because they are coached and sevens. They understand the game. I don't

:24:15.:24:19.

think people understand the reach of the game and now it is an Olympic

:24:20.:24:23.

sport he can see the funding, the Stockholm Thames is established

:24:24.:24:27.

tournament and they have come here prepared. Let's rejoin the action.

:24:28.:24:39.

That is carved right off his boot into the middle of the stand. I'm

:24:40.:24:44.

sure Charlie shield will keep speaking but that's not what you

:24:45.:24:46.

want to see. It has happened before blessing. This is good running by

:24:47.:24:58.

Rhys Cullen. An early tackle there surely. In way it goes, that is a

:24:59.:25:09.

Rae Smith who was in there. Currie are down to six, still leading by

:25:10.:25:16.

2.7-5. Have the advantage of the extra man. Well done thereby Rory

:25:17.:25:29.

steel. This boy has real place, the timing of the parcels off. Just held

:25:30.:25:34.

at a fraction. Shield again, has all the time to lift his head and see

:25:35.:25:40.

where everybody is. Great off-load. Nice running this time. Cameron

:25:41.:25:49.

Smith strong, hands off. There we go. Rory Drummond here, a long way

:25:50.:25:59.

for Rory Drummond to go but the sides that there might be one more.

:26:00.:26:03.

Charlie shield cannot get at him, nice build-up thereby and good

:26:04.:26:09.

finishing for a try which puts back in the lead 10-7. Currie had all the

:26:10.:26:16.

ball there and this is where they gave up the ball. It is that dinky

:26:17.:26:20.

fellow there are, quite difficult to catch if you are that bit taller.

:26:21.:26:26.

Shields workrate has been outstanding, not enough pace to get

:26:27.:26:35.

back there. A good try. We've noticed before if there is a yellow

:26:36.:26:38.

card given what a difference it makes, the extra man. We could see

:26:39.:26:44.

that there with with the extra man. Resulted in a try. Lovely kick by

:26:45.:26:52.

Ferguson to put the extra two points on the board. There it is, you can

:26:53.:27:00.

see the early tackle there. No doubt about that one I'm afraid. Sometimes

:27:01.:27:05.

you do think it is difficult to see the ball but he certainly never got

:27:06.:27:09.

the border and a yellow card was the correct decision. Currie need to

:27:10.:27:18.

hold onto possession just for a little while until that extra man

:27:19.:27:22.

comes back. Away they go with McGinley. Scott McGinley a strong

:27:23.:27:34.

runner. Held onto longer. Watsonians lining up. You could see in the

:27:35.:27:44.

background Bill getting a little hand off their buts when it's time

:27:45.:27:49.

to come on you don't have a stop of play you run on solar Currie are

:27:50.:27:58.

back to full strength. It's a good law really. Two minutes is long

:27:59.:28:00.

enough and seven it's enough to make them suffer a penalty because

:28:01.:28:04.

usually getting to take advantage of the extra man. They certainly have,

:28:05.:28:08.

we have found every time there's a yellow card a try has been scored

:28:09.:28:19.

against. Watsonians leading 12-7. The clock tells us it is up to 14

:28:20.:28:25.

and that is when they stop playing. Currie have it all to do, they are a

:28:26.:28:33.

try down. Watsonians must sense opportunity here in their nostrils.

:28:34.:28:39.

Here is a man who could change it. Former Brumby not making much that

:28:40.:28:48.

time. You can see are doing well, not just going on the legs were

:28:49.:28:51.

trying to stop the ball carrier and try to pass out the tackle.

:28:52.:28:55.

Certainly slowing the game down and making life difficult. Angus Duckett

:28:56.:29:04.

takes air. The trickling stride of hers -- twinkling. The change of

:29:05.:29:08.

direction behind the goal post could be decisive for. 17-7 in this

:29:09.:29:15.

Edinburgh derby match. Scott Hastings will get excited. You don't

:29:16.:29:18.

see it so much from this angle but what an absolute beautiful Lion that

:29:19.:29:28.

he had there. No nothing, a fantastic angle and to come onto

:29:29.:29:34.

pace made life very difficult for them to defend against. There is

:29:35.:29:41.

another wavering kick. It's been such a lovely day which we've

:29:42.:29:45.

enjoyed. The thing the players are feeling the heat out there. There we

:29:46.:29:51.

go Cullen came from behind the attacking ball there. No one could

:29:52.:29:57.

see him come around. Very easy when you sit down like that.

:29:58.:30:03.

He cannot get it away this time. That was Young. Having to get it

:30:04.:30:23.

away from his body, and yes, he was holding on. You have to extend the

:30:24.:30:32.

arms, get the ball away. What we are finding quite a lot, because this is

:30:33.:30:37.

the first, second tournament of the season, people taking more contact

:30:38.:30:42.

than they should. That should been away from the contact. He decided to

:30:43.:30:53.

take on. We are into the last-minute of this tie, the first quarterfinal.

:30:54.:30:59.

Currie have it all to do. Watsonians with possession, looking

:31:00.:31:08.

comfortable. Steele doing the bulk of the

:31:09.:31:23.

50-50 ball, what a fight for possession. Cullen nicely out. The

:31:24.:31:34.

big fella, Drummond. Still keeps going. A lovely delivery out of the

:31:35.:31:49.

bottom of the pile-up. Cullen again. The twinkling steps. A bit of a

:31:50.:31:58.

forward pass. And full-time. 17-7 win for Watsonians and that means

:31:59.:32:02.

they are the first team to take their place in the semifinal here at

:32:03.:32:05.

Melrose. I am joined by the Watsonians

:32:06.:32:20.

manager. Always nice to come out top in an Edinburgh derby. Against

:32:21.:32:26.

Currie, rivals nowadays. Fiercely contested quarterfinal and we are

:32:27.:32:31.

happy to go into the semis. I do not know what you have seen of the other

:32:32.:32:35.

teams but do you have enough to go to the final, to win this? I always

:32:36.:32:42.

do. It will be tough. You can see even from last week, it has taken

:32:43.:32:47.

its toll. We need to make sure we keep the ball and do what we are

:32:48.:32:50.

good at, score tries. Best of luck.

:32:51.:32:55.

That is Jamie Sole of Edinburgh Accies. And amateur club against one

:32:56.:33:08.

of the big clubs south of the border. Playing right to left. They

:33:09.:33:21.

made short work of GHA. Jones, Dino Lamb. Charlie Walker is a real

:33:22.:33:32.

flyer. A lovely day. Looking ahead to one

:33:33.:33:58.

of the big finals in world rugby. The turnover by Quins. This is the

:33:59.:34:08.

flyer, Charlie Walker, giving it to another big man, Jonas Mikalcius. We

:34:09.:34:11.

have seen the way he can just sprint in. James Lang. Lovely feet. Still

:34:12.:34:25.

going. That is class. Jones the willing recipient of that beautiful

:34:26.:34:30.

break and then pass. James Lang, look at the way he switches

:34:31.:34:35.

direction, comes off his left foot, once, twice, a third time, threading

:34:36.:34:40.

the pass-through and a tremendous try. Individual skill and an

:34:41.:34:45.

accurate pass that found the man on the outside. Quins into their stride

:34:46.:34:50.

quickly. It has been the story of the afternoon. If you have

:34:51.:34:55.

possession and have the players with the physical capabilities, you will

:34:56.:34:58.

score tries. This is the conversion attempt. It is white. -- wide. The

:34:59.:35:14.

way he held the ball in two hands, teased the defence and delivered the

:35:15.:35:19.

pass with accuracy. If you look back to the Watsonians' victory over

:35:20.:35:25.

Currie. They have not shown that accuracy. Jamie Sole, son of David

:35:26.:35:51.

Sole. And Craig Chalmers' boy. Different questions posed by this

:35:52.:35:54.

Harlequins defence, who are coming up quickly. Robbie Chalmers, brave.

:35:55.:36:03.

Playing well at the ground where his father excelled. Up to the

:36:04.:36:14.

opposition ten metres line. Sole, we saw him score. That is what he does.

:36:15.:36:21.

He can link the ball. The referee said Jamie Sole was not held. Winks

:36:22.:36:30.

is smothered. Quins more physical than anything. James Lang spotted

:36:31.:36:39.

the gap. He is quicker than the Edinburgh Accies defenders. James

:36:40.:36:48.

Lang. The ball down. A former Scotland under 18s player. He found

:36:49.:36:54.

a big gap. You did not have a traditional sweeper because

:36:55.:37:00.

Edinburgh axes have been attacking. Exploited from the turnover. James

:37:01.:37:02.

Lang stretched his legs and he ran. I have to tell you, I saw a bunch of

:37:03.:37:17.

people playing Frisbee behind the stand in fancy dress to be told it

:37:18.:37:21.

was a bus-load from Northern Ireland. A huge crowd have come to

:37:22.:37:26.

watch this celebration of the abbreviated game. You have been

:37:27.:37:30.

involved in it, it has gone around the world. They persist with the

:37:31.:37:36.

high, direct kick-off. Taken well by Robbie Kent. Chalmers is having a

:37:37.:37:46.

great game. He kept the ball despite the attention. Harlequins up

:37:47.:38:10.

quickly. Sole, I think, is an animal feedstuff engineer down here.

:38:11.:38:17.

Appleson, just a yard, he tries to get the ball with the extra step but

:38:18.:38:22.

cannot make it. Penalty to Edinburgh Accies. Great riposte from the

:38:23.:38:34.

Accies team. Alex Glashen keeping the ball alive. The scrum-half,

:38:35.:38:43.

e-book take a quick tap and go. -- he will take.

:38:44.:38:52.

It is a long, looping pass to the left. Jonas Mikalcius, we know how

:38:53.:39:02.

quick he is. Look at the left. He can fly. -- the knee lift. The crowd

:39:03.:39:14.

don't like it! Mind you, he will be puffed. A couple of years ago,

:39:15.:39:25.

shining in the European Grand Prix series. Another tribe. Basically a

:39:26.:39:33.

run in for Quins and it came from turnover ball. Accies attacking from

:39:34.:39:39.

under the post, losing possession. And in this case you will get

:39:40.:39:45.

punished. The young team from the Harlequins Academy showing how to

:39:46.:39:52.

play this game. Edinburgh Accies will be rightly worried. A 19 points

:39:53.:39:59.

deficit at half-time and a lot to do to get back in. They will have the

:40:00.:40:05.

sun and wind, the second half. They are brave, but not really been

:40:06.:40:09.

threatening the Harlequins players. And this will be a chance. Appleson

:40:10.:40:17.

leaves it for Glashen. Again, the pressure. Glashan is the

:40:18.:40:46.

playmaker. Sole plucks it out of the sky and does well. It is a flyer.

:40:47.:40:53.

Off-loading beautifully aside to Winks. What a score by Edinburgh

:40:54.:40:59.

Accies. The kick past two Jamie Sole and the link to his fellow big man.

:41:00.:41:05.

I love that try. Alex Glashan's cross kick. Jamie Sole. The support

:41:06.:41:12.

play was so good from Edinburgh Accies. Jamie Winks did so well. The

:41:13.:41:22.

conversion to come from the wide out channel.

:41:23.:41:33.

It has given Edinburgh axes some hope. This is the try again. Alex

:41:34.:41:43.

Glashan. Because the defence came up for the Quins is allowed Jamie Sole

:41:44.:41:55.

-- it allowed him clear to the line. The Soles, I think Gemma, the

:41:56.:42:01.

daughter has played netball for Scotland. Another signed for a

:42:02.:42:06.

cricket team. That Jamie is making himself a name in rugby. A lot to do

:42:07.:42:11.

yet. I think they get their pedigree from their mother, mind you! Jane.

:42:12.:42:24.

Mark Appleson. Played for Scotland in the 90s. He won a tournament in

:42:25.:42:30.

Dubai will stop he played for the London Scottish club and is a

:42:31.:42:34.

brilliant sevens player and has had experience coaching Heriot's.

:42:35.:42:41.

You can see the sun as it careers through the lens at Melrose. And

:42:42.:42:47.

there is this big crowd, this afternoon. We have still to see

:42:48.:42:55.

Selkirk play Melrose in the next game. And the Co-Optimists against

:42:56.:43:00.

Sweden, who might be the surprise package. It is 14, 15 degrees,

:43:01.:43:08.

sunshine. And that is the picture as we see it in this commentary box.

:43:09.:43:24.

Quins sticking to their width. Winks. He is the man who has just

:43:25.:43:41.

scored the try at the other end. Weeks, one of these piledriver

:43:42.:43:45.

handoffs. If you do not get him down early, you do not get him down. The

:43:46.:43:52.

accuracy within the Accies' attack strategy has been good. They got to

:43:53.:44:00.

the final. They come in with forum. They have backed the try up with the

:44:01.:44:05.

first score of the second half. The conversion here is absolutely

:44:06.:44:17.

crucial. He pulls it. This was the try. We know Winks has become quite

:44:18.:44:25.

a player. Joint top scorer. And we have a game. I think many people

:44:26.:44:29.

thought Quins would be way too strong. One of the best games of the

:44:30.:44:33.

afternoon. Away down the right wing. Looks

:44:34.:44:49.

inside. Taken by Archie Wyatt or Luke Jones. Number four, beautiful

:44:50.:45:01.

off-load, doesn't go quite to hand. Good defence by Edinborough Accies.

:45:02.:45:13.

Such a skill, when you go into that position you off-load the ball, we

:45:14.:45:19.

see a lot of top professional teams and HSBC seven series competing in

:45:20.:45:25.

Hong Kong this weekend. The skill level right under the microscope in

:45:26.:45:32.

seven aside rugby. Ben Appleson collect the ball. Pluck sit out the

:45:33.:45:44.

sky. Pins his ears back, go through one man, go through to man.

:45:45.:45:51.

Edinborough Accies will bring it a 2-point game if they can get this

:45:52.:45:58.

conversion. Wraparound play was superb, that creates the two on one.

:45:59.:46:03.

That off-load from Chalmers. He held a tonne and louts and went for a

:46:04.:46:10.

corner the accuracy from Edinborough Accies is proving the difference. --

:46:11.:46:15.

Laursen. They are stretching this defence and we have a game on here.

:46:16.:46:20.

You spoke about how important the convergence and he has just pulled

:46:21.:46:28.

it, a 4-point game. Just over 3.5 minutes to go, Harlequins will be

:46:29.:46:33.

questioning themselves, they need to score next. If Edinborough Accies

:46:34.:46:36.

score next then this could be a big upset. Edinborough Accies lost to at

:46:37.:46:43.

the gala last weekend but are looking better now. His kick-offs

:46:44.:46:48.

have been good throughout the tournament but that was over pumped.

:46:49.:46:54.

Harlequins will use the clock as their friend. No rush. Charlie

:46:55.:47:04.

Walker just directing traffic there, telling his team what to do.

:47:05.:47:29.

Edinborough Accies up quickly. Got the ball away. Mikalcius gets it out

:47:30.:47:49.

to lamb. Robinson gives it to the fire again Charlie Walker, walker

:47:50.:47:56.

Issey through? He is. That could be the vital score. Charlie Walker's

:47:57.:48:03.

try of the afternoon and in his experience, he has represented

:48:04.:48:07.

England in Hong Kong and Tokyo in and he has just been the difference

:48:08.:48:12.

between the teams. He has. He is the difference. Just that old head,

:48:13.:48:17.

slowed down, took his time and took the kick off slowly.

:48:18.:48:29.

He has missed that one 20 4-15. Edinborough Accies need to score

:48:30.:48:41.

twice. -- 24. This is the replay, nice steps coming up, one, two and

:48:42.:48:45.

then the little line from Charlie Walker takes it, dances off the left

:48:46.:48:50.

foot and I think you're right, he is a class act. He was the giver of the

:48:51.:48:56.

third pass on the movement before the third try and he held his line

:48:57.:49:00.

on the inside angle. That made all the difference and another

:49:01.:49:06.

difference between these two teams is the Edinborough Accies

:49:07.:49:09.

conversions, suddenly those 4-point could put them in the once good

:49:10.:49:14.

game. As it is they need a miracle here. That is normally a yellow card

:49:15.:49:18.

offence that. Throwing the ball away, it is yellow card. He is off

:49:19.:49:24.

the pitch. We have one minutes left. If they can score within 30 seconds.

:49:25.:49:38.

Chop to the ground. Appleson. Chalmers. Chalmers is through. Back

:49:39.:49:43.

inside to Appleson and Appleson needs to get underneath the they can

:49:44.:49:50.

convert this. Look at the urgency. There is 30 seconds left. Quick

:49:51.:49:54.

drop-kick, they need to get possession. Scott Hastings.

:49:55.:50:02.

Tremendous. This is what is great about the abbreviated game,

:50:03.:50:06.

Edinborough Accies with a power play. Chalmers gets the back-up here

:50:07.:50:10.

and suddenly all of the pressure now on Alex McGlashan. Jamie Sole chased

:50:11.:50:15.

that one. Clever player. That is a clever

:50:16.:50:29.

little break. Will Stephen done that right-hand side, gives it inside. It

:50:30.:50:36.

is that man that you have identified. Charlie Walker has had

:50:37.:50:44.

an amazing afternoon. The try of the afternoon and that is the tie,

:50:45.:50:47.

Edinborough Accies have pushed them all the way, a super game of rugby

:50:48.:50:54.

that one. Really exciting, the skill of the Harlequins of the skill of

:50:55.:51:02.

that man, absolutely nails it. He is the top points scorer, Charlie

:51:03.:51:08.

Walker with 25 points. What a game we have heard. I'm joined by James

:51:09.:51:16.

Lamb. That was a tough match, you are sweating right until the end.

:51:17.:51:20.

They brought it to us and we had to fight until the very end. Good rugby

:51:21.:51:25.

going on here and we are relieved to say the least to get through the

:51:26.:51:30.

next round. I would imagine for you out there it is probably quite

:51:31.:51:35.

sapping. It does take it out of you, it's nice to have some rather than

:51:36.:51:39.

rain but it does. Good fun out there and hopefully we can take this win

:51:40.:51:43.

into the next game. Best of luck. These glorious conditions for the

:51:44.:51:57.

match, the third quarterfinal, Selkirk got through by beating the

:51:58.:52:04.

previous teams, Melrose put paid to Dundee 's hopes. Here we are, a

:52:05.:52:10.

border battle. We have had an Edinburgh derby and now it'll be a

:52:11.:52:15.

Borders battle and that is Selkirk in the traditional navy blue kicking

:52:16.:52:20.

off. Great to see Selkirk doing so well, a couple of cup games -- tough

:52:21.:52:28.

games. They showed their class and quality in the end so you would

:52:29.:52:33.

expect Melrose to be strong for Selkirk but that is the beauty of

:52:34.:52:37.

sevens, if Selkirk can get some momentum then anything can happen.

:52:38.:52:42.

You see the names of the players coming up on the screen there. This

:52:43.:52:50.

is going to be a throw in here by Davis who is one of the crafty

:52:51.:52:54.

operators. Lovely service from Melrose. They goes Luckington.

:52:55.:53:01.

Chased by Clapperton. Selkirk get the turnover. Knocked on first says

:53:02.:53:09.

the referee. And so it'll be a Melrose in. People have enjoyed that

:53:10.:53:17.

this afternoon. Look at Luckington. Just the hand getting in there.

:53:18.:53:25.

Clapperton unlucky to be judged on knock-on. Just a glimpse of how

:53:26.:53:29.

dangerous he can be. Sharp on its feet and has a lovely sidestep. Here

:53:30.:53:39.

it goes again. Just a wee firefly. Down it goes to Jackson. A chance

:53:40.:53:47.

here for Melrose. In at the corner that they go. Greg Jackson and it is

:53:48.:53:55.

a pat on the back and the crowd applauds. Everybody's happy and the

:53:56.:54:01.

home side ahead. The footwork from Luckington gets them over the

:54:02.:54:04.

advantage line and Selkirk have a disconnection. Keirin white

:54:05.:54:10.

defensively, shows his back. Craig Jackson is more than happy to take

:54:11.:54:15.

that. He has the pace to finish it. A positive start for Melrose. A

:54:16.:54:21.

cousin of Ruaridh Jackson who played for Scotland. There we go there as

:54:22.:54:28.

Craig Jackson. That is high but doesn't have the legs of the

:54:29.:54:31.

direction so remains 5-0 for Melrose. Look at this. Something you

:54:32.:54:41.

used to do. I don't know if I had the pace to finish it like that but

:54:42.:54:44.

a good recognition of where the gap was. Of course is cousin at

:54:45.:54:50.

Harlequins now but he hasn't joined the squad here. A massive flap of

:54:51.:54:58.

the hand brings the ball back. Lovely take there. That was Jason

:54:59.:55:05.

Baggett. Usually a stand-off. Could be plying his trade. There is

:55:06.:55:21.

Jackson. Good tackles though by Selkirk. Clapperton in the action.

:55:22.:55:29.

All Melrose at the moment. They goes gobsmacked. -- Watts.

:55:30.:55:37.

Plenty of possession for the home side, there is a lovely week up

:55:38.:55:44.

again, Craig Jackson just weaving his way through. Luckington gets

:55:45.:55:54.

there. It is in fact Godsmark who got the score. Just having another

:55:55.:56:01.

look at that but another try for Melrose. 10-0 Dalaet. -- they lead.

:56:02.:56:11.

Craig Jackson making the lead and the support there, the off-load

:56:12.:56:16.

important and was the downward pressure from Godsmark. The referee

:56:17.:56:20.

is happy. He has spoke to a Selkirk player who wasn't happy he got

:56:21.:56:26.

downward pressure. Just shows the importance of the restart. Melrose

:56:27.:56:30.

regained possession straightaway and back into the attack. Difficult for

:56:31.:56:38.

Jackson there squinting into the sun. Let's watch this. Talk us

:56:39.:56:43.

through the. You can see going for the reach with one hand. The slow

:56:44.:56:48.

motion. In slow motion it looks about good enough. Good decision

:56:49.:57:01.

referee. There you go. Irvine-Hess went up like a salmon there but they

:57:02.:57:06.

didn't get it. This is keirin white back to Ross Nixon. Davies. Along

:57:07.:57:14.

the line to Clapperton. This is Adams who scored a couple of lovely

:57:15.:57:18.

tries in the earlier tied that he is put on the neck unceremoniously by

:57:19.:57:25.

Lockington. A couple of South Africans in. That looked a bit

:57:26.:57:36.

higher. -- high. Dangerous high tackle. Quickly taken. Here comes

:57:37.:57:44.

Selkirk again. Clapperton with a shimmy and a sidestep. Taken him

:57:45.:57:48.

away but he can get the pass-through. Chance for a

:57:49.:57:57.

counterattack. And Craig Jackson just slows tore down and gets the

:57:58.:58:07.

troops mustered. A penalty to Selkirk because he hasn't released

:58:08.:58:12.

in the tackle. Just over a minute ago in the first half. What a pass

:58:13.:58:18.

at the back of the to Adams. He wondered if it had come to him I

:58:19.:58:21.

think and he is not too bothered because it gives Selkirk their first

:58:22.:58:26.

score, it is now 5-10. Quality work here. An absolute speculator, tosses

:58:27.:58:33.

the grenade and it lands in the hands of Adams. It gets Selkirk

:58:34.:58:41.

right back into the game. The man of the moment will take the conversion

:58:42.:58:50.

attempt, let's see what he is like. Look at the packed terracing. That

:58:51.:58:56.

looks better. That looks all right. Adams convert his own try, only

:58:57.:59:00.

three points between the sides now with half-time approaching. Great

:59:01.:59:05.

footwork first of all from Selkirk there. An absolute speculator, a

:59:06.:59:15.

pass to nothing but the accuracy is there to stop leads to score,

:59:16.:59:20.

Selkirk back in it although the knock-on at the restart gives

:59:21.:59:24.

Melrose possession. This will be the last play of the first half. This is

:59:25.:59:28.

what the crowd love and they can see it on the screen to the left of the

:59:29.:59:33.

picture. A massive crowd screen, that is that the River Tweed end. It

:59:34.:59:39.

gives the crowd a greater understanding of what is going on

:59:40.:59:44.

close at hand. And also slow motion replays. And lets them see what

:59:45.:59:47.

happened. We can confirm Nyle Godsmark does

:59:48.:00:00.

score and we can confirm quality, the back passes. We can see Selkirk

:00:01.:00:05.

putting a shunt on the Melrose scrum. Selkirk having possession.

:00:06.:00:12.

Not quite out of the scrummage. It has to come out at least between the

:00:13.:00:18.

prop forward's legs. He is not allowed to move his outer legs to

:00:19.:00:24.

accommodate that. Close attention from all those on the benches.

:00:25.:00:27.

Watching their teams, seeing how they do. Colvine was around quickly.

:00:28.:00:40.

Mikey Davies was slow off his mark. I think that is half-time. It has

:00:41.:00:46.

been a long first half. There we are. Two tries for Melrose, one for

:00:47.:00:50.

Selkirk. It has been a good half of rugby.

:00:51.:01:05.

Melrose started well. Selkirk, when they get possession, you can tell,

:01:06.:01:11.

they work well as a team. I don't think they have the individual

:01:12.:01:16.

brilliance of the gods mark or Lockington -- Nyle Godsmark. They

:01:17.:01:24.

are an effective team. They have Ross Nixon tossing grenades out the

:01:25.:01:32.

back hand into the welcome arms of Adams, to get them back in that

:01:33.:01:37.

game. The crowd are nervous. The Greenyards has gone quiet. They are

:01:38.:01:41.

concerned about the Selkirk performance in the first half. If

:01:42.:01:46.

they can rally the troops, get behind the Melrose team. There is

:01:47.:01:51.

nothing better than the host side have its team working through the

:01:52.:01:57.

various stages to get to the final. Melrose, this is the third quarter

:01:58.:02:01.

final. If they were to get through this, they would meet the winner of

:02:02.:02:06.

Co-Optimists and Sweden, both of which look pretty useful. But

:02:07.:02:14.

another seven minutes to go. Seven minutes for each half of the call

:02:15.:02:16.

ties -- the pool targets. I think it may have been knocked on.

:02:17.:02:37.

Melrose knocked on, I thought it came from a Selkirk hand. The

:02:38.:02:41.

referee said it was an absolute mess and decided fair's fair. Selkirk get

:02:42.:03:03.

the put-in. That is something to give you nightmares. The stand-off

:03:04.:03:17.

calling. Clapperton has still managed to disrupt it. Clapperton

:03:18.:03:26.

penalised and a chance for Jackson. Irvine-Hess, again. A Dodge and a

:03:27.:03:36.

sidestep. They call it a Duke. A chance for Pecqueur. Very close. Did

:03:37.:03:43.

he get it in the corner? The crowd think so. He will have to be very

:03:44.:03:56.

careful with this one. Held up. Outstanding defence. They have done

:03:57.:04:05.

so well. Creating enough space you thought for Pecqueur. He grounded it

:04:06.:04:11.

short, did he? In the process, Adams and MacDougall get across. That will

:04:12.:04:36.

be sore for Pecqueur. They have all got their facts to 25 and 30 on

:04:37.:04:41.

today, I hope, otherwise there will be red faces tomorrow, because it is

:04:42.:04:47.

very hot. Pecqueur, great reach. The ball is short. Is he still in

:04:48.:04:55.

control of the ball? I have no idea how the referee, assistant referee

:04:56.:05:01.

and touch judge managed to get a decision in. But credit to that

:05:02.:05:08.

scramble defence, it was good enough. The pressure is still on. A

:05:09.:05:12.

Melrose scrum. A great position to attack from. The stand-off right

:05:13.:05:19.

behind the scrum so he can get that ball away. Lockington, the man who

:05:20.:05:29.

can do damage. A chance for Melrose in the shape of Craig Jackson.

:05:30.:05:36.

Is it a yellow card? Ross Nixon and Craig Jackson exchanging, as they

:05:37.:05:55.

say, fraternal greetings. Selkirk's scrambles defence. We will come back

:05:56.:06:01.

to the high tackle. That, we must see it again. Lockington at his

:06:02.:06:07.

brilliant best, one against one. Nobody can catch. Just individual

:06:08.:06:16.

brilliance. Not in a bad position pool, defensively. Lockington with

:06:17.:06:24.

the big step and Whyte is made to look foolish as he clutches at Ayr

:06:25.:06:30.

and falls over. Pops over the conversion. A nice cushion for

:06:31.:06:39.

Melrose. Great recognition from Lockington he has Whyte in front of

:06:40.:06:45.

him. He backs himself. Whyte a bigger operator, but not as light on

:06:46.:06:50.

the feet. But that sidestep would have made many a player look silly.

:06:51.:06:57.

It would have made many a professional player happy because

:06:58.:07:01.

that is beautiful. You see that in sevens when they have space and room

:07:02.:07:09.

to manoeuvre in. It is a great opportunity for these players and

:07:10.:07:13.

fantastic for the crowd to watch. The players thrive on the extra

:07:14.:07:18.

space and opportunity to show their sidestep and passing ability. They

:07:19.:07:23.

do not enjoy the cardiovascular work-out they get so much, but it is

:07:24.:07:29.

great to see things like that. Adams takes off. Chased by Anderson.

:07:30.:07:37.

Nobody can catch Adams. He gets another yard closer to the. Five

:07:38.:07:45.

well earned points from the lab from South Africa. -- lad. Selkirk still

:07:46.:07:53.

in this game. It is the beautiful thing sevens gives. The really quick

:07:54.:07:57.

guys get an opportunity to open their legs. Any sort of space. He is

:07:58.:08:07.

absolutely flying. Takes him up to the top of the try scoring board, as

:08:08.:08:14.

well. Can he convert his own try? It was hanging in the breeze and has

:08:15.:08:21.

fallen or wide. He is top points scorer with 27 from five tries and a

:08:22.:08:25.

conversion. Having a great afternoon in the sun. A good take for Melrose

:08:26.:08:32.

by Nyle Godsmark. Knock-on by Selkirk. The last two

:08:33.:08:47.

minutes of this game but it is by no means done and dusted. You would

:08:48.:08:55.

have thought to have had a two score cushion at this stage. Now in their

:08:56.:09:06.

own territory. They will be muttering away to each other. Under

:09:07.:09:16.

cover of the scrummage. Callum McCaig and has come on. He will play

:09:17.:09:22.

scrum-half now and Mikey Davies has moved out to stand-off. Clapperton

:09:23.:09:25.

has gone to centre. Melrose have a session. Lockington is so difficult

:09:26.:09:33.

to bring down. -- Calum McKeown. Murdo McAndrew, who usually plays

:09:34.:09:51.

scrum-half. Beetling his way around the bench. Mice running, Anderson.

:09:52.:09:57.

He could not catch Adams admitted ago but nobody can catch him now.

:09:58.:10:02.

With time running out that it surely the one that puts the game beyond

:10:03.:10:03.

doubt. Patient. Did not get him on the

:10:04.:10:44.

front foot. Waiting for the opportunity to break a tackle. It

:10:45.:10:45.

comes from Anderson. He has the pace to finish that off. That should be

:10:46.:10:46.

that for Melrose. Into the semifinals. They gave you a tough

:10:47.:10:57.

test? It will always be tough. It is Selkirk. Now we are getting better.

:10:58.:11:04.

We have not had a vast amount of preparation but we are slowly

:11:05.:11:08.

getting there and we will have a crack at the semifinal. The crowd

:11:09.:11:13.

are starting to get excited. We will have to rest up quickly, it will be

:11:14.:11:17.

a quick turnaround. We will see how we go. Cheers.

:11:18.:11:25.

Sweden are playing right to left and will take on the co-optimists,

:11:26.:11:33.

principally the Irish sevens team. They have been in a training camp in

:11:34.:11:44.

Portugal. Hugo Cunanan number six waiting in the sunshine for the ball

:11:45.:11:49.

to come his way. We have had some great games but we are at the

:11:50.:11:58.

business end. A throw into the co-optimists. It is tough to call

:11:59.:12:03.

because both teams have impressed. Very much. I think the best

:12:04.:12:09.

impression certainly from Sweden, the way they played in the first

:12:10.:12:16.

game. You are right. You see the kick-off so far, I do not know what

:12:17.:12:20.

has been happening, but Fransson nudged one over the top. You need

:12:21.:12:31.

height on that will stop turned over by the Swedish. The number nine

:12:32.:12:45.

Dennis Melander. You have plenty of flyers and these are a couple here.

:12:46.:12:55.

Nunstedt chasing back. A penalty to the co-optimists. It was a tactic I

:12:56.:13:03.

did not think they should be doing. They had numbers, Sweden. A good run

:13:04.:13:08.

by Nunstedt. We know how fast he can run. That area is well scrutinised

:13:09.:13:16.

by the referee. Missing your touch is not the best thing to do. This is

:13:17.:13:28.

a player, number two, Enstad. The Co-Optimists will have the ball.

:13:29.:13:44.

The Co-Optimists are looking a bit dangerous now. That was a good run

:13:45.:13:53.

from long distance by David Busby, who is chased back by Burke. But he

:13:54.:14:03.

is over for the first try and the Co-Optimists are on the board.

:14:04.:14:11.

Busby. A good handoff. We have said it this afternoon, if you miss a

:14:12.:14:14.

tackle at this stage and level, that is generally what happens. Busby

:14:15.:14:23.

still had a bit of steam. And made good work. The try-line came at the

:14:24.:14:28.

correct time. Another ten yards, I think he might have been caught.

:14:29.:14:34.

Toal-Lennon to put the drop kick over for the extra two points. We

:14:35.:14:40.

have not seen many conversions today. And we still don't.

:14:41.:14:50.

We talk about points making prizes. A couple of tries and a couple of

:14:51.:15:01.

conversions. There we go, he mentioned before, very good in

:15:02.:15:04.

attack that you to make your tackles though. Penalised big-time. The

:15:05.:15:18.

sweet flavour. -- the Swedes leave it. The jumper made a right niss of

:15:19.:15:31.

it. They have done very well. Making inroads. Out to Hector. Into the

:15:32.:15:43.

right wing of Fransen. Big players, they direct running. Jonathan Hector

:15:44.:15:54.

has a high tackle. That's another flyer. None stead around the

:15:55.:16:05.

outside. -- Nunstead. Round the outside for another try. Beautiful

:16:06.:16:13.

weather here at the Greenyards. Still a bit of work to do. Good

:16:14.:16:19.

individual try. This good to before this one. That is his third here, a

:16:20.:16:25.

good clean pair of heels here. Good refereeing as well allowed advantage

:16:26.:16:33.

to be played from a high tackle and in doing so Sweden made the most

:16:34.:16:41.

unschooled very important try. Unsuccessful long kick. Couldn't be

:16:42.:16:49.

more evenly balanced as these teams try to get through to the second

:16:50.:16:55.

semifinal. We know it'll be Harlequins and the Watts Ionians.

:16:56.:16:59.

The second one will be Melrose against the winners of the Swan --

:17:00.:17:02.

Watsonians. The kick. The co-optimists have the ball.

:17:03.:17:24.

Great break from Toal-Lennon, double handed pass to another flyer in this

:17:25.:17:31.

case it is Kennedy and that is glorious rugby because that was from

:17:32.:17:34.

their own try line to the other end of the pitch in the blink of an eye.

:17:35.:17:41.

Funny and not funny. Some tries a very hard to work. As you mentioned

:17:42.:17:46.

a long kick from Sweden there, tactically putting pressure and the

:17:47.:17:53.

court to Mr well. A couple of phases and that is a good clean pair of

:17:54.:17:54.

heels from Kennedy. Toal-Lennon of that conversion and

:17:55.:18:13.

it is a try out of the top drawer because here's the scorer Terry

:18:14.:18:18.

Kennedy. He was in support and these guys look fit. As you said to the

:18:19.:18:25.

first line of defence, drawing the drifter, straight pass, straight to

:18:26.:18:29.

Kennedy, straight between the posts. So often we see it and talk about, a

:18:30.:18:35.

support runner in sevens and that was vital. Toal-Lennon made the

:18:36.:18:37.

space and Kennedy on the shoulder and he takes it. That was lovely.

:18:38.:18:56.

Brought to ground by Kennedy. Nunstead. Good defence by the Irish

:18:57.:19:00.

Toal-Lennon. Shepherding from behind. Intercepted, intercepted by

:19:01.:19:13.

the Co-Optomists. Taking the Long root out to David Busby. A try from

:19:14.:19:21.

David Busby. The co-optimists are just taking the wind out of the

:19:22.:19:25.

Swedish players. You can see they looked tired and that is another

:19:26.:19:35.

try. I don't know what happened there that you can not afford to do

:19:36.:19:40.

that. To give it to some speedsters there. What's we can see there is

:19:41.:19:45.

Busby going for the corner, we will see the Swedish player Justin get

:19:46.:19:52.

his angle correct. He should have kept the player into the corner.

:19:53.:19:56.

Busby to make the kick because two points at the end could be vital.

:19:57.:20:02.

There is the conversion and the half-time score here at the

:20:03.:20:06.

Greenyards in this match is 19-5 and we have had some fantastic action

:20:07.:20:07.

already. It is a great day, look at that. The

:20:08.:20:41.

quarterfinals already, do what Sony ins through. Edinborough Accies

:20:42.:20:48.

lusty Harlequins. Melrose the home team 24-12 over Selkirk. In the

:20:49.:20:54.

latest Corvette 19-5 for the Co-Optomists but you never know. --

:20:55.:21:05.

score here. Before this game I bought the Swedish team would be

:21:06.:21:10.

better because the Co-Optomists looked a bit sluggish, especially

:21:11.:21:13.

after it is a select side they put together for the game today and the

:21:14.:21:17.

Swedes have been playing together for a little bit longer. I saw six

:21:18.:21:24.

of the team were away with the Irish sevens in a training camp in

:21:25.:21:27.

Portugal. They are pretty good players. Also as you say Harlequins

:21:28.:21:37.

are looking pretty good and pretty dominant at the moment that lovely

:21:38.:21:40.

to have an Edinburgh side. Melrose the home side, but this game I don't

:21:41.:21:44.

think is over just quite yet. Toal-Lennon, we have Tobias Borg

:21:45.:22:01.

playing against Will Connors. This could be the first time since

:22:02.:22:05.

Wimbledon. Short ball. Just pulled up. It was you, Connor and Gregor

:22:06.:22:15.

saying a lot of sevens nowadays is the short pass with someone on the

:22:16.:22:20.

anger which is what they tried. Good angle. You're not allowed to pass

:22:21.:22:26.

forward though. Back in it is. Sweden are desperate to get back

:22:27.:22:45.

into the match. Going back to what he said about the angles, the angles

:22:46.:22:49.

are vital to make space but in sevens at this level, when you are

:22:50.:22:53.

one-on-one, you should be able to take your man down and when you

:22:54.:22:57.

don't to see what happens, you are going to make life difficult for a

:22:58.:23:05.

defensive side. When it is done correctly it looks very attractive

:23:06.:23:10.

and it looks like the sevens is an easy game and it is not done too

:23:11.:23:18.

often. Kennedy just takes his man and takes the gas out giving it to

:23:19.:23:22.

Greg O'Shea. With the handoff, down the left wing. He discussed quite a

:23:23.:23:33.

bit about not tackling the man but look how they build this. We know

:23:34.:23:43.

how tend Nunstead can go. The hand nearest the touchline, giving the

:23:44.:23:47.

angle, he had the angle but I would say just a little bit too high if

:23:48.:23:54.

you want to be involved. That little bit there about the man to get him.

:23:55.:24:03.

-- allowed. The shadows lengthen yet more as Toal-Lennon, right footed,

:24:04.:24:12.

look at the practice technique. Two, three and... No hole in. It is

:24:13.:24:22.

funny, we see some great skills and some great parson, some chip forward

:24:23.:24:30.

but tell you what been good. I don't think there has been very many made

:24:31.:24:34.

today. Colin Gregor was saying today when he gone international circuit,

:24:35.:24:42.

they get much more time to practice Jokic conversions and that they do

:24:43.:24:45.

and when you come here you are not many. -- drop-kick. It's a shame

:24:46.:24:54.

there is not been a lot of practice because it is quite a vital part in

:24:55.:25:02.

to the sevens playing. That is Keenan, the big number 60 has a

:25:03.:25:05.

ready scored a try. Top try scorer so far, top points scorer is so far.

:25:06.:25:16.

Those too tired at five apiece as top try scorers. Big abrasive

:25:17.:25:28.

forward there. Gives the ball back to Toal-Lennon. Toal-Lennon with a

:25:29.:25:35.

long slicing pass. When you make the difficult look simple, you know

:25:36.:25:39.

you're watching a good side. That is certainly what happened there.

:25:40.:25:45.

Flighted past, watch this. Of the band had if you are a rugby player.

:25:46.:25:53.

-- bad. Makes life very easy as you say. The Co-Optomists are looking

:25:54.:25:58.

very strong and very committed at the moment. The home side Melrose

:25:59.:26:05.

will have their work cut out because this team will take them on. Just

:26:06.:26:10.

about to get the first semifinals with the Sony versus the Harlequins.

:26:11.:26:16.

Toal-Lennon again with that peculiar little stop. -- Watsonians. Getting

:26:17.:26:26.

lots of practice at the moment. You never know the semifinal we might

:26:27.:26:30.

see his winning touch to get one through the posts. Just to discuss

:26:31.:26:40.

the next one, the time the players have to recover, it could be in

:26:41.:26:46.

Melrose's watch that they have that little bit extra that time will

:26:47.:26:51.

tell. Toal-Lennon Fredericksburg kick. Trying to take the ball out of

:26:52.:27:01.

the sun. Messed up a little bit. Looks as though the Swedes have it.

:27:02.:27:05.

Plenty of pressure from the Co-Optomists. The blue and yellow

:27:06.:27:10.

jerseys have at them. Looking for the half gap. In on the slice.

:27:11.:27:19.

Hector still going, big man. Juices assured through to keep it alive.

:27:20.:27:28.

Sweden then going left to right. Good break, tries to threaded

:27:29.:27:37.

through the gap. That was good defence. Quite an all-round good

:27:38.:27:43.

tomb. The coaching session away has paid dividends at the moment you can

:27:44.:27:49.

see they wouldn't allow that past ago. Has a link the opposition there

:27:50.:27:56.

and in defence the court to Mr looking strong. They are. I think

:27:57.:28:04.

the Swedes know it is not going to be their day. Toal-Lennon it was.

:28:05.:28:13.

Bakhtiar O'Shea. -- back to. Good simple play and it is going to be

:28:14.:28:22.

O'Shea. Still going, O'Shea with the move from the back of the scrum and

:28:23.:28:26.

that simplicity of execution has put the Co-Optomists into the second

:28:27.:28:35.

semifinal for sure. Good individual try here tried this move I think,

:28:36.:28:45.

had a long way to go but again cannot afford to do that. You have

:28:46.:28:49.

to take your man down. You can see what it meant the. -- there.

:28:50.:29:04.

Now there is a successful kick and it is well done to the Co-Optomists.

:29:05.:29:09.

They will be through. 36-5. A very good win for the Co-Optimists

:29:10.:29:31.

against Sweden and only four teams left. We have Watsonians,

:29:32.:29:38.

Harlequins, Melrose and the Co-Optimists. I am looking forward

:29:39.:29:42.

to this. The quality teams have come to the top. Watsonians and Melrose

:29:43.:29:50.

are the two strong Scottish clubs, seven aside. Great to see them in

:29:51.:29:54.

the semifinals. Harlequins have built through the day. The

:29:55.:29:59.

Co-Optimists looking stronger the last game against a team, Sweden,

:30:00.:30:03.

who performed well in their first game and so the semifinals should be

:30:04.:30:09.

crackers. Harlequins had a tough match against Edinburgh Accies. It

:30:10.:30:14.

almost seemed they did not believe they could win against them,

:30:15.:30:18.

Edinburgh Accies and started slowly. That is the way when club teams come

:30:19.:30:22.

up against professional outfits, they think they will be better, more

:30:23.:30:27.

physical and quicker but Edinburgh Accies gave them a game. Watsonians

:30:28.:30:33.

will have to take heart. When they get possession they are an effective

:30:34.:30:37.

team and they will have to make their tackles and shut down the

:30:38.:30:41.

Harlequins attack. Let's get to be live action. The first of the

:30:42.:30:49.

semifinals. Watsonians and Harlequins.

:30:50.:30:54.

This will be a tough test for Watsonians. They have the rugby, do

:30:55.:31:02.

they have the power and skill. Do they have the pace. And there is a

:31:03.:31:14.

lost ball. Jonas Mikalcius has it for Harlequins. Lovely handling.

:31:15.:31:29.

Look at the security of the handling. Pure speed in the race for

:31:30.:31:34.

the touchdown. He has got it. Charlie Walker, clever stuff. If

:31:35.:31:41.

there is one player who has lit the Greenyards it is Charlie Walker. The

:31:42.:31:48.

top try scorer, six. The class act in the Harlequins team. Watsonians

:31:49.:31:52.

have been sloppy this afternoon. They have not had fluidity. That was

:31:53.:31:57.

from a turnover and the Quins capitalised on the error from

:31:58.:32:01.

Watsonians. He was through like a flash of

:32:02.:32:06.

lightning and here he comes with the conversion. Pretty good. That is

:32:07.:32:12.

over, as well. Another couple of points and Harlequins are up and

:32:13.:32:18.

running. Former England under 20 star and represented England sevens

:32:19.:32:25.

in Hong Kong and Japan in 2012. I saw him in those tournaments,

:32:26.:32:29.

certainly showing his class in the academy outfit for the Quins. He

:32:30.:32:34.

certainly knows his way around a rugby sevens game. This is the man

:32:35.:32:45.

of the moment, Charlie Walker. Not quite sure who this big fella is

:32:46.:32:51.

without the number on his jersey. Watsonians, 50-50 ball, knocked

:32:52.:32:56.

forward. An error denies them possession. Even with Gala last

:32:57.:33:00.

weekend, making errors but getting away with it. In the Gala sevens,

:33:01.:33:06.

many of the teams were rusty. Watsonians have been trying to

:33:07.:33:12.

prepare, targeting the Melrose Sevens, having not won here since

:33:13.:33:24.

1996. They were so keen to do well. Jonas Mikalcius, they reckon he is

:33:25.:33:29.

17 stone. He has very quick acceleration. A lovely piece of

:33:30.:33:36.

running. Walker again, beautiful, the handoff, the pace. Still trying

:33:37.:33:47.

to keep the ball. A lovely feed out from Mikalcius again. They great

:33:48.:33:54.

try. Harlequins looking like a well oiled machine. They are capitalising

:33:55.:34:05.

on possession. You had Hart and Drummond. Drummond had to drift out

:34:06.:34:10.

onto his outside man. Skipping through that wide channel was

:34:11.:34:18.

Asplund Robinson. And there was a lovely wiggle of the

:34:19.:34:29.

body, weaving away from the incoming tackler. This is the conversion

:34:30.:34:34.

attempt and he is on target with the try and conversions. That is his

:34:35.:34:40.

second conversion will stop Harlequins find themselves 14 points

:34:41.:34:45.

ahead, just over halfway through the first half.

:34:46.:34:51.

Watsonians will have the ability to claw it back but at the moment,

:34:52.:34:56.

Quins in command. Bodies banging into each other. Half

:34:57.:35:15.

a chance for Watsonians. Cullen had to kick ahead.

:35:16.:35:21.

Angus Duckett up with the tackle. That could have been Scott

:35:22.:35:39.

McKeane. Cullen has him by the ankles but the support is there and

:35:40.:35:50.

Quins, another drive. This one will be right under the sticks and a

:35:51.:35:55.

conversion to come. Dino Lamb touching down. Try number three.

:35:56.:36:01.

There is a gulf in class between this man, Charlie Walker, and the

:36:02.:36:05.

other players on the field. We have talked about his England experience.

:36:06.:36:11.

The 24-year-old, he is the old head in this Academy team. These players

:36:12.:36:20.

are full professionals. Warren Abrahams is the Academy coach. You

:36:21.:36:25.

feel as though it is that experience and fitness. Also the understanding

:36:26.:36:38.

of the sevens game. This is the ace in the pack, he has the acceleration

:36:39.:36:44.

and know-how. It shows. Look at the off-load under pressure. Also the

:36:45.:36:51.

teamwork of Watsonians has gone to pot. They have not worked as a unit.

:36:52.:36:57.

A little bit going as individuals. I think they've missed Harris, the

:36:58.:37:03.

stand-off. A great competitor and playmaker. Does a lot of running for

:37:04.:37:06.

them. And here they come again. This is more like it and a chance

:37:07.:37:28.

for Drummond. Out the back door with a pass. Duckett looking for the

:37:29.:37:35.

off-load. Drummond again, swatting them away. Sidestepped. Taken

:37:36.:37:47.

through. Almost there but not quite. Watsonians hack to work to get to

:37:48.:37:52.

the try-line and the Quins were right up in defence. Cullen has

:37:53.:37:56.

recently signed a contract with Bristol. Bundled into touch.

:37:57.:38:02.

Watsonians have been outclassed in this first half. Three converted

:38:03.:38:07.

tries for Harlequins. This is a lovely scene at the

:38:08.:38:21.

Greenyards, as the players get their breath after an exhausting first

:38:22.:38:26.

half in which Harlequins scored three tries, one by Walker, one by

:38:27.:38:35.

Robinson and another by Dino Lamb. Number 10. There he is. Taking on

:38:36.:38:43.

water. You could almost say today Charlie Walker walks on water,

:38:44.:38:48.

because he has been the star of this tie and certainly the star went

:38:49.:38:54.

Harlequins have paid previous ties. The top scorer on 36 points. As you

:38:55.:39:02.

said at half-time, he certainly is the ace in the back. His experience

:39:03.:39:07.

has told. The way players have responded around him. People like

:39:08.:39:13.

Dino Lamb, he has gone well. James Laing, who is on the bench, he has

:39:14.:39:20.

performed well, along with Calum Waters. That Charlie Walker has

:39:21.:39:29.

caught the eye. In that is such a great part of the Scottish rugby

:39:30.:39:34.

scene. It is one of the most beautiful views in world rugby. I

:39:35.:39:43.

cannot think of anywhere better. The setting of the Hong Kong sevens, it

:39:44.:39:48.

is absolutely tremendous. The Hong Kong tournament is going on this

:39:49.:39:53.

weekend. Let's see if Watsonians can produce something in this second

:39:54.:40:09.

half. A lovely sidestepped made the opposition dead. Great start to the

:40:10.:40:16.

second half for Watsonians. They have a long way to go but that will

:40:17.:40:20.

give them heart and encouragement. Beautifully taken try by Watsonians.

:40:21.:40:30.

Ferguson absolutely nailed it into Steele. Just the off-load and on the

:40:31.:40:39.

cutback was Drummond. Missed the conversion so it remains 5-21. The

:40:40.:40:45.

conversions are vital. If they can put them over, they can get back in

:40:46.:40:53.

contention. Jack Ferguson, once part of the Scotland seven setup. Out in

:40:54.:40:58.

Dubai. He has had limited gametime. A wayward pass which gives them

:40:59.:41:16.

problems to solve. McKean trying to back himself. The speed of the ball

:41:17.:41:24.

to the man in the open is vital. This is Steele, he can run. Being

:41:25.:41:36.

chased. Hart. Not offside, says the referee. What a run, what a great

:41:37.:41:47.

piece of opportunism by Harlequins. The touchdown behind the crossbar.

:41:48.:41:58.

Try number four for Harlequins. This is the sloppiness I was talking

:41:59.:42:02.

about. Watsonians have played like this all afternoon. They have

:42:03.:42:08.

coughed up ball and Harlequins have exploited this. There was an

:42:09.:42:12.

opportunity when Angus Duckett went through. Sometimes in sevens, the

:42:13.:42:20.

understanding that is so important, sometimes does not happen. The pass

:42:21.:42:26.

was not made. I think it was Tom Hart on the deck. The turnover.

:42:27.:42:35.

Cullen handed off. Harlequins have paced throughout the team. Very much

:42:36.:42:42.

so. The next tie dream Melrose and Co-ops, which have plenty of pace

:42:43.:42:49.

and it might be the pace of the Co-ops that takes them into the

:42:50.:42:56.

final. McKean, the pass was forward. That crucial pass. As Steele tried

:42:57.:43:03.

to deliver it they may have been impeded. Andrew Kerr. Part of the

:43:04.:43:23.

coaching setup at Watsonians. They will be disappointed because they

:43:24.:43:27.

have not won enough ball to challenge the Quins. This is a good

:43:28.:43:33.

Harlequins side. They have played good sevens rugby. They have showed

:43:34.:43:38.

power and pace, possession of the ball. The crucial facets of seven

:43:39.:43:50.

aside rugby. Look at that, straight back. Calum Waters for the second

:43:51.:43:56.

time. He is a tough lad, playing scrum-half.

:43:57.:44:02.

Away goes the big fella. Jonas Mikalcius on the far side and

:44:03.:44:13.

another try. Try number five in this semifinal. Harlequins are looking

:44:14.:44:23.

very comfortable. Jonas Mikalcius, the Lithuanian player. Have not seen

:44:24.:44:28.

as much of him today as I thought we might. Playing up in the forwards.

:44:29.:44:36.

He plays on the wing for Lithuania. The conversion coming in. That is a

:44:37.:44:39.

good kick. Another couple of points. I think that was Luke Jones. He came

:44:40.:45:00.

off the bench. Look at that. Fading in beautiful stuff. The Harlequins

:45:01.:45:07.

are rotated the squad and everyone has played their part. Here is Rory

:45:08.:45:13.

still popping it out to the far side. , the way it goes. Touch down

:45:14.:45:32.

in the corner. That is the 40 mark and really Harlequins are giving,

:45:33.:45:37.

professionals against amateurs. Getting a bit of a lesson here.

:45:38.:45:48.

Played in the world sevens in Twickenham, making that height and

:45:49.:45:58.

weight difference for the Harlequins. Harlequins won here

:45:59.:46:10.

before Bill, when did they win? 1987? That's right. Hastily looking

:46:11.:46:22.

at his notes. People who know me know my memory wouldn't rise to

:46:23.:46:26.

that. However I have it in front of me. There are so many players in the

:46:27.:46:32.

competition is impossible to know each and every one, this 240. You

:46:33.:46:37.

have done pretty well to get 239 right. I think so one identify the

:46:38.:46:44.

Jedforest man wrong. I got a pelting on the street. Don't tell anybody.

:46:45.:46:53.

They could do with a consolation here, they have one already. Trying

:46:54.:46:59.

very hard to break away. Davidson might. Not quite. Rory still has the

:47:00.:47:22.

gas to get there. Can this be a try? Another good try from the what Sony

:47:23.:47:32.

and is. -- Watsonians. The support play was integral here. And the

:47:33.:47:38.

conversion goes over as well. So there we are. And with that final

:47:39.:47:45.

conversion, the referee indicates it is full-time. A pretty decisive win

:47:46.:47:51.

for Harlequins we have to say. They go into the final winners over

:47:52.:48:05.

Watsonians. 40-12. Thank you Bill. As the referee comes out to have the

:48:06.:48:09.

Co-Optomists coming out, Melrose taking the field at their home and

:48:10.:48:15.

this is a big match because this is the second semifinal. Melrose

:48:16.:48:18.

against the Co-Optomists. The winners take on the Harlequins in

:48:19.:48:22.

the final and keep your eyes out at some stage because Adams, the

:48:23.:48:28.

speedster is in the Melrose ranks and there is the lead. An incredible

:48:29.:48:35.

day of action we have had a ready and vital that Melrose can get

:48:36.:48:40.

through. Then we have the home team against Quins, if not we have the

:48:41.:48:48.

Co-Optomists and as we said they are the Irish sevens team in the sevens

:48:49.:48:53.

squad there. They have looked very effective. Just waiting to Craig

:48:54.:49:09.

Jackson to get things under way. Second semifinal.

:49:10.:49:21.

Jackson can run but will they be able to cope with the Irish who have

:49:22.:49:35.

plenty of invention. Keenan, Kennedy and Connors.

:49:36.:49:49.

A tense game this will be. Melrose desperate to win it. Trying to get

:49:50.:50:02.

the maul. The men in blue and white, there is general temp-macro. Out to

:50:03.:50:08.

a more abrasive player. Busby into contact. Connors. Toal-Lennon.

:50:09.:50:22.

Keeping possession. Keenan again. Good defence by Melrose so far. Can

:50:23.:50:29.

they get behind the line? Toal-Lennon has the ability to look

:50:30.:50:32.

as though he has time. Kennedy is through. Kennedy chased all the way

:50:33.:50:39.

but is going to make it. What a score that is. They were patient,

:50:40.:50:44.

inventive and ultimately they have the space. A minute of possession

:50:45.:50:52.

for the court to missed since a kick. Going wide and then they

:50:53.:50:55.

decide through Toal-Lennon they will come back down the short side. Great

:50:56.:51:02.

execution and again the pace of Kennedy to quickly Jackson.

:51:03.:51:17.

The well rehearsed kicking routine. Looks to have sent it to the

:51:18.:51:27.

right-hand side and it will bounce clear. Melrose a bit of a shock,

:51:28.:51:33.

five points down, two minutes gone. Important for Melrose to get hold of

:51:34.:51:37.

the ball. They haven't touched Craig Jackson kicked it off and went to DT

:51:38.:51:41.

contest and the call to Mr they're all about going through the phases.

:51:42.:51:48.

Again just the importance of this restart now.

:51:49.:51:56.

That was well read wasn't it because they went beyond the ball. The

:51:57.:52:02.

Co-Optomists in possession. Toal-Lennon. On the break. Tackle by

:52:03.:52:16.

Evan Hess. Toal-Lennon. Thinks about... Cruise the extra of metres.

:52:17.:52:25.

Still with the Co-Optomists. Penalty. Just not rolling away after

:52:26.:52:38.

making the tackle. Almost account a rock their former waste to renewable

:52:39.:52:41.

back. The Co-Optomists was retaining it. They recognise that loose ball

:52:42.:52:51.

and they get the chance to attack. Toal-Lennon, Busby, a shorter ball,

:52:52.:52:56.

a simple score from Connors. They just accelerated onto the gap there.

:52:57.:53:01.

Defended out of the right-hand stroke. A simple try. Simple try

:53:02.:53:09.

because it was well executed. Just a change of line from Connors, Melrose

:53:10.:53:12.

are looking out to drift outside the touchline. Connors comes back

:53:13.:53:19.

against the grain because of that. Getting on the soft shoulder of the

:53:20.:53:26.

Melrose defence. Two tries in four minutes. Toal-Lennon them.

:53:27.:53:36.

Looking for the extra two. And this time you successful. Melrose will

:53:37.:53:43.

have to get themselves in gear. Colin Gregor. We saw Jason Baggot

:53:44.:53:52.

come on. I think they are expecting a similar kick-off. Melrose Dhoni to

:53:53.:54:00.

panic -- Melrose Dhoni to panic. It's a case of making sure when they

:54:01.:54:03.

do have the ball that they have the patience to go through. That will

:54:04.:54:13.

unlock the defence. Could this be the chance? Couldn't get it. A

:54:14.:54:20.

chemical to missed tablets and they are trying get it. Looking for the

:54:21.:54:29.

scrum. You explain this, like Scott Hastings was saying, the sevens you

:54:30.:54:32.

very much have to have the ball, if you don't then you cannot go to

:54:33.:54:38.

tries. That is where Melrose getting the ball now are so important. Five

:54:39.:54:43.

minutes of the half they have not had possession, I don't think they

:54:44.:54:46.

have made a pass yet. They have only conceded two tries so 12 points in

:54:47.:54:52.

seven is easy to get back it's just making sure they go through phases

:54:53.:54:59.

and make the Co-Optomists defend. Running out of space. Backers

:55:00.:55:05.

Jackson. Thinks about it and that is a knock-on, it'll be whatever

:55:06.:55:16.

happens. Irish possession. Melrose spooked there and it is Colvine with

:55:17.:55:19.

bad accuracy. Looks like they weren't sure what they were doing

:55:20.:55:22.

off the face. Normally in sevens you get the ball out wide and then

:55:23.:55:25.

stretch the defence played on the way back. Melrose just a bit tight

:55:26.:55:34.

and indecisive there. Too narrow and then the error is forced. The first

:55:35.:55:38.

attacking opportunity and they fell to make any art.

:55:39.:55:47.

Toal-Lennon cleanly back. At the Keenan. To Kennedy. Kennedy is

:55:48.:56:02.

through again. Intercepted by Jackson. Jackson can fly. Melrose

:56:03.:56:09.

possession. Now it has gone back to the Co-Optomists. Play on. Hodgson

:56:10.:56:19.

with a little dancing step. Got himself between two players. He is a

:56:20.:56:28.

bundle. Melrose have the penalty. They thought they'd given away the

:56:29.:56:36.

penalty. Outstanding defence from Colvine to save a certain try.

:56:37.:56:42.

Mahrez now back on the attack. Godsmark. The shorter ball. To

:56:43.:56:54.

Baggott. Jackson. Great break. Two fantastic little steps this time.

:56:55.:57:02.

Austin Luckington as you said, just need the ball. In for the score. 12

:57:03.:57:08.

points down. They were 12-5, could be converted and you can sense the

:57:09.:57:17.

crowd willing this Melrose team. As we see trying to get his breath

:57:18.:57:23.

back. That sorely needs. He manufactured that space, just how

:57:24.:57:28.

effective these were the right side step foot and he just about had the

:57:29.:57:35.

pace to get away. The benefit for him is he scored on half time said

:57:36.:57:38.

he gets the whole half-time break to reclaim his breath. We have a

:57:39.:57:47.

5-point game here at Melrose. This is the score. Talk this through the

:57:48.:57:52.

skill. We can see the Co-Optomists defender Keenan is coming from the

:57:53.:57:58.

breakdown, he is quite natural. He recognises that our Bax 's ability

:57:59.:58:02.

with the right footstep. Get on the soft shoulder and then a step on the

:58:03.:58:10.

sweep as well. Again so explosive. Important for Melrose to get back in

:58:11.:58:20.

that. Half-time score is Melrose seven - 12 Co-Optomists. We note the

:58:21.:58:23.

Harlequins are in the final, will be these men or will it be the

:58:24.:58:29.

Co-Optomists. It has been a great afternoon already. We have had so

:58:30.:58:37.

many tries. Charlie Walker six. Adam Swift five. The wind is gentle. The

:58:38.:58:44.

temperature is mild. And this big crowd in during a spectacle and I've

:58:45.:58:47.

always wondered why the Melrose rugby players. Look at that.

:58:48.:58:57.

Beautiful day. And the moon has the best view. It has been a stunning

:58:58.:59:03.

day. The action on the pitch has matched it. A festival of rugby in

:59:04.:59:08.

this game is living up to expectations as well. Again the

:59:09.:59:13.

importance of the restart. He will get the ball and who will launch the

:59:14.:59:19.

first attack. Right to left for the Co-Optomists. We have a key

:59:20.:59:26.

second-half now. Toal-Lennon up into the air, bravely went on and knocked

:59:27.:59:35.

on. Melrose possession. Keenan close to getting that. Like the salmon he

:59:36.:59:42.

was eyes on the ball the whole time. Intent on getting to it.

:59:43.:59:59.

Crikey, what a step he has, Lockington. He had the score the

:00:00.:00:06.

other end of the pitch, we have just started the second half and it came

:00:07.:00:10.

off his right foot. What an extraordinary game. Lockington with

:00:11.:00:17.

two rapid tries. If they get this kick, will have given Melrose the

:00:18.:00:25.

lead. Outstanding. You could watch a sidestep like that all day. Shane

:00:26.:00:30.

Layden coming out of the scrum, chasing, thinking that Lockington is

:00:31.:00:34.

going on the outside. He unleashes that right footstep. The change has

:00:35.:00:44.

changed completely. Lockington. Look at the right footstep. He has

:00:45.:00:53.

acceleration to burn. He has had the two tries. I think many imagined the

:00:54.:00:59.

Co-Optimists would be a tough nut to crack and Melrose are doing their

:01:00.:01:03.

best with the sledgehammer that is Lockington. Knock-on.

:01:04.:01:15.

A quality restart. Melrose so close to maintaining possession.

:01:16.:01:32.

Untidy play. Colvine down the left-hand side. Lockington, width,

:01:33.:01:46.

width. This is a break, this time by Patrick Anderson. Penalty is going

:01:47.:01:51.

the way of Melrose, out the back door. Could it be, could it be? What

:01:52.:02:01.

a score. Melrose from being two tries down our three tries to two

:02:02.:02:14.

up. Pecqueur. Like a scalded cat. Good work from Anderson. No panic.

:02:15.:02:22.

They have the advantage. We almost see another glimpse of the moon.

:02:23.:02:36.

Irvine-Hess does not want to die with the ball. It is important in

:02:37.:02:43.

sevens if you get the off-load a way to keep launching an attack. He is

:02:44.:02:48.

alert to the stray ball and has the pace and power to finish it. If

:02:49.:02:53.

Melrose can make it to the final, we have quite an afternoon. Clutched

:02:54.:03:02.

out of the sky by Ned Hodson. Co-Optimists have ability. Is it a

:03:03.:03:15.

knock-on? It is Melrose possession. Three minutes left to see if Melrose

:03:16.:03:22.

can get through to the final. What do they have to do? Ideally keep a

:03:23.:03:28.

hold of ball. The second half has been similar to the Co-Optimists'

:03:29.:03:34.

dominance in the first half. They have played it in the Co-Optimists'

:03:35.:03:38.

half, scored a couple of quality tries. As we see, Adams. The Selkirk

:03:39.:03:51.

player. Because of injury they have gone with Adams. He is as quick as

:03:52.:03:57.

anybody around. He thinks about going around the outside. Anderson

:03:58.:04:05.

kept it alive. This is Lockington. Vital they do not get turned over.

:04:06.:04:20.

Two minutes left and Jackson looked up, the route was blocked. Knock-on.

:04:21.:04:35.

He thought there was no offside. We have a game here. The referee is

:04:36.:04:46.

saying one and a half on its left. Melrose trying to slow the game

:04:47.:04:54.

down. The key is they have possession to make sure they are

:04:55.:04:58.

rock solid at this scrum. Giving Adams another run at the ball, he

:04:59.:05:08.

did well last time. Toal-Lennon doing everything he can to disrupt,

:05:09.:05:16.

as is big Shane Layden. Lockington again trying to give it to Adams and

:05:17.:05:23.

it is a penalty. Just got isolated. Here come the co-optimists. Ned

:05:24.:05:27.

Hodson. Carrying the ball confidently.

:05:28.:05:37.

Hugo Keenan. He is through. The Co-Optimists get their try. Melrose

:05:38.:06:10.

have to hang in as the conversion is done quickly. On that occasion,

:06:11.:06:11.

Jackson, the defender, he is tired. McAndrew chasing across the

:06:12.:06:12.

touchline. Worried about the pace on the outside. If there is

:06:13.:06:22.

infringement, Melrose win. Melrose have it. All they have to do is kick

:06:23.:06:31.

it into touch and the game is over and it is knocked out of his hand

:06:32.:06:38.

and that is a brilliant result for this tournament because Melrose are

:06:39.:06:40.

through to the final of the Melrose Sevens at Greenyards. Extraordinary

:06:41.:06:48.

result because they have beaten some of the Irish sevens squad. Quite a

:06:49.:06:54.

game. It was. We talked about the Co-Optimists building a lead but it

:06:55.:06:58.

was only 12 points despite the dominance. Melrose has faith in

:06:59.:07:08.

their ability. A couple of game changing tries around half-time and

:07:09.:07:12.

they have the quality to finish it off. A happy bench and that is the

:07:13.:07:20.

man who joined them, Adams. The real stuff is still to come. The finals.

:07:21.:07:25.

A popular win in the studio here. Doddie Weir used to play for the

:07:26.:07:36.

co-optimists. But of course they Melrose player in his younger days.

:07:37.:07:49.

A brilliant match. It was said before that every game they are

:07:50.:07:53.

improving. They were sluggish may be in the first game. Melrose are still

:07:54.:08:00.

involved in a lot of 15 cups and finals and have not been organising

:08:01.:08:06.

the sevens. Every game they improve and it is great they will get to the

:08:07.:08:14.

final. The crowd will stay. They will stay anyway. This is Melrose's

:08:15.:08:19.

home tournament. They are in the final, which means they get 20

:08:20.:08:23.

minutes, in the bottom half of the draw, and Harlequins will have plus

:08:24.:08:32.

15. I was speaking to a Melrose official bemoaning the fact he could

:08:33.:08:35.

not understand why that happened. For credit to Melrose, I think it is

:08:36.:08:43.

the right result. They tested the Co-ops. Great to see Lockington,

:08:44.:08:52.

unlocking the Co-Optimists' defence. You could watch that sidestep,

:08:53.:08:57.

individual skill on show. Melrose rugby club have taken on the club

:08:58.:09:02.

game. Everything that is good about Scottish club rugby. They are on for

:09:03.:09:08.

the treble. They are looking to improve in the way they play but

:09:09.:09:12.

also facilities here. Trying to get planning for pitches which would

:09:13.:09:18.

mean it would be the last time we see grass here. And to cap it all,

:09:19.:09:24.

in the final of their own sevens. It will be live in 20 minutes. We can

:09:25.:09:28.

remind ourselves of the semifinal results. A great win for Harlequins.

:09:29.:09:43.

The word legend is overused but the next fellow I am going to talk about

:09:44.:09:51.

fits into that category. He started commentating for the BBC in 1986 and

:09:52.:09:56.

now has decided to hang up his microphone. His love of rugby is

:09:57.:10:01.

infectious. Earlier today Melrose rugby club paid tribute by giving

:10:02.:10:07.

him a posted, presented by Jim Telford. Their tribute, and this is

:10:08.:10:12.

ours. Good afternoon and welcome to Rugby

:10:13.:10:29.

Special in Scotland. We are back for the famous Melrose Sevens. He is

:10:30.:10:35.

iconic in Scottish rugby. His voice is well loved, he is well respected.

:10:36.:10:42.

He is a big part of Scottish rugby. The move from amateur to

:10:43.:10:46.

professional rugby, having his voice in the commentary has been part of

:10:47.:10:51.

our development. We have enjoyed some rain... What is happening?

:10:52.:10:58.

Probably the best rugby commentator, certainly on radio. He has had that

:10:59.:11:08.

voice, instantly recognisable. COMMENTATOR: A great try for the

:11:09.:11:13.

youngster. There is a first and passion for rugby and always has

:11:14.:11:17.

been in the Borders and it comes out in more Wade and one. Borders has a

:11:18.:11:29.

heritage of reducing good commentators. Bill McLaren,

:11:30.:11:33.

everybody knows him. And see him about. Everybody in the Borders is

:11:34.:11:39.

proud. You almost felt like you were there with him when he commentated

:11:40.:11:42.

on the games. He understands what the guys go through in sevens. The

:11:43.:11:50.

lung busting runs you have to do. COMMENTATOR: That truly is the

:11:51.:11:57.

winner for Melrose. It was always really important as someone from the

:11:58.:12:04.

Borders leading the commentary at the Melrose Sevens which is why Bill

:12:05.:12:08.

is there, he is the best and doing it at the best place to do it, at

:12:09.:12:21.

Melrose. You are all right. Bill was emotional, you could tell, his last

:12:22.:12:26.

Scotland game and doing his last Melrose Sevens. I am sure he will

:12:27.:12:34.

get a great sendoff from the crowd. Show your appreciation for Bill...

:12:35.:12:40.

Now they have to find somebody who can live up to what he has done.

:12:41.:12:47.

That will be difficult. It will be very hard to replace that magic

:12:48.:12:53.

boys. The sidestep was magical! Brilliant rugby. Like a valley

:12:54.:13:03.

dancer. -- like a ballet dancer. You have always been very positive and a

:13:04.:13:08.

great supporter of rugby in Scotland. Because I am half Jed, it

:13:09.:13:14.

is always great to talk about Jed rugby and Borders rugby with you.

:13:15.:13:18.

Good luck and I hope everything works out for you because you are a

:13:19.:13:23.

brilliant man to be around. That is it for this edition of Scottish

:13:24.:13:31.

Rugby Special. STUDIO: Bill Johnson, a man who loves the game. How are

:13:32.:13:39.

you feeling now? One more game to go on the TV. You will work on radio

:13:40.:13:44.

for a little while. But this last final and Melrose in the final. I am

:13:45.:13:51.

delighted for Melrose but not so delighted with the pictures of the

:13:52.:13:55.

olden days. These were great days but this has been another lovely day

:13:56.:14:01.

at Melrose and it is great that the host side has made it to the final

:14:02.:14:07.

against the odds. Brilliant. What are your highlights of the long

:14:08.:14:11.

career, 31 years on the microphone for the BBC? Too many to name. If I

:14:12.:14:18.

were to speak about Melrose Sevens. We have seen David Campese. Many

:14:19.:14:27.

others. Wonderful teams from the Borders. Before I started

:14:28.:14:33.

broadcasting, but some great teams. Since I have started broadcasting,

:14:34.:14:38.

there are too many memories in club games, professional, Glasgow-

:14:39.:14:43.

Edinburgh games. And internationals. I have a host of memories. Bill, we

:14:44.:14:48.

have a host of memories thanks to you and the way you describe this

:14:49.:14:52.

game. You do it incredibly well and you are an incredibly positive

:14:53.:14:56.

spirit to be around. Everybody has a good word to say about you and we

:14:57.:15:02.

will be sad to see you go. I feel it is the right time to call a stop. I

:15:03.:15:08.

have no ulterior motives. It is just I think this is a good time. Helen

:15:09.:15:15.

and I will try to do some walking. I will do it very gingerly, I think!

:15:16.:15:22.

You do nothing gingerly. It is fantastic, I have loved working with

:15:23.:15:26.

you over the years and we wish you the best in your retirement. Thank

:15:27.:15:27.

you so much. All the best to you bishop, you're a

:15:28.:15:37.

fine, fine gentlemen. Right, straight into the men ease

:15:38.:15:42.

dressing room. What happening Dougie? Quite a

:15:43.:15:47.

performance you produced in the semi-final? They did well. They dug

:15:48.:15:52.

out. The bench had a good impact when they came on.

:15:53.:15:57.

Ten minutes each way. We will leave everything out on the field and see

:15:58.:16:04.

how close we can push them. Bruce, obviously a lot taken from

:16:05.:16:08.

the tank. But do you feel there is plenty left? Definitely. The home

:16:09.:16:12.

tournament you always find the extra. When it starts to hurt and

:16:13.:16:17.

burn, there is always a wee bit extra in the tank. It's that part of

:16:18.:16:21.

the final and we're looking forward to it.

:16:22.:16:26.

How much of the home support helped you? It's massive. Really great to

:16:27.:16:33.

have a great crowd down here on such a beautiful day. They help us get

:16:34.:16:38.

over the line. The very best of luck to you, boys.

:16:39.:16:44.

That is interesting. It will be interesting how they are

:16:45.:16:48.

after the final. They will be like this! It's the atmosphere, you sit

:16:49.:16:54.

back. You are settled. There is such history behind the tournament it

:16:55.:16:59.

inspires you to do things you don't normally do.

:17:00.:17:03.

And we know all about that history. Let's have a look at the road to the

:17:04.:17:09.

final. The first match was against Dundee. A good one as well. It was a

:17:10.:17:16.

tough one. I think that the score was 19-1. Dundee made them work for

:17:17.:17:23.

it. Melrose were concentrating hard being in the 15s game. But they

:17:24.:17:28.

found the game, the flow and did some good tries and marched away

:17:29.:17:33.

from tonne tee and get into the next round.

:17:34.:17:40.

And against seg Kirk? And the number six jersey on the right of your

:17:41.:17:43.

picture. He is involved in everything that is good about the

:17:44.:17:50.

game. A tremendous try there to knock out the." The Co-Optimists.

:17:51.:18:03.

They had been behind them and they can't afford to do it now, the

:18:04.:18:07.

Quinns. They are strong. Very strong.

:18:08.:18:11.

Let's get a sense of how strong they are feeling. Andy is in their

:18:12.:18:16.

dressing room at this moment. I have the coaching captain with me.

:18:17.:18:23.

Tony, how impressed are you with the boys reaching the final? It's been

:18:24.:18:28.

excellent. A tough transition. We were almost undone by the abies. But

:18:29.:18:33.

we will give it a good go against the hosts in the final.

:18:34.:18:40.

Charlie, in great form. How has the Melrose Sevens experience been for

:18:41.:18:44.

you? It's been great. Buzzing to be in the final.

:18:45.:18:48.

Are you prepared to be the boys to spoil the party against the home

:18:49.:18:52.

team? Hopefully. We will give it all we have got. There are tired legs

:18:53.:18:56.

out there. We will be dangerous.

:18:57.:19:01.

Tony, the quince won this 30 years ago, it would be nice to repeat the

:19:02.:19:04.

history? We came up to be competitive. Hopefully we have been

:19:05.:19:10.

about. England/Scotland in the final, the hosts versuses. Wii had a

:19:11.:19:15.

great time, we would like to finish it off now.

:19:16.:19:18.

The very best to you. They are looking happy. They have

:19:19.:19:22.

been good. Charlie Walker has been the star

:19:23.:19:26.

man. The experience playing for England. He has been directing the

:19:27.:19:33.

traffic. The top point scorer, the top try scorer and excellent all

:19:34.:19:38.

round. And Tony said that they rotated the bench and have pace

:19:39.:19:42.

across the board. The Melrose boys are fit but so are

:19:43.:19:48.

the Harlequins. They are pros? They are. They know how to play the game.

:19:49.:19:55.

They have talent. There are more backs, there are less

:19:56.:20:01.

props and forwards. This shows what you have going. Speed men and the

:20:02.:20:07.

Harlequins' team have that in abundance. Here, the Edinburgh

:20:08.:20:12.

Academicals, they run them close here. So that gives Melrose

:20:13.:20:17.

confidence about taking them on and trying them at their own game. But

:20:18.:20:22.

you have to make the tackles count if you don't, once you start playing

:20:23.:20:28.

the ball they are hard to beat. And the Watsonians, well beaten by a

:20:29.:20:35.

good side? I felt that they were sloppy all afternoon. It was

:20:36.:20:41.

commanding position and territory. It was an outstanding performance by

:20:42.:20:47.

the harlequins. And the Watsonians had trained for the tournament but

:20:48.:20:51.

they were out shone by the Harlequins team.

:20:52.:21:05.

They were. It is harlequins against Melrose in the Assess Management

:21:06.:21:09.

Sevens. These guys have picked out four of

:21:10.:21:12.

the best tries of the afternoon. Let's have a look at them.

:21:13.:21:20.

Scott McKeen? Watsonians against Kelso.

:21:21.:21:25.

He plugged well for this one. Lots of good skills thrown. The Sevens

:21:26.:21:31.

here is the team work. The fact that there is a delayed try. But this was

:21:32.:21:38.

a peach from George Arner. And sometimes in Sevens you have to back

:21:39.:21:41.

yourself with the player. He cut the angle. Escaped through the defeigned

:21:42.:21:47.

and then the Arne out dive and shuffle.

:21:48.:21:55.

It's like the Arne out Windig. What have you... And Adams who scored a

:21:56.:22:02.

few tries. This is the second of his tries in the game? The South African

:22:03.:22:08.

has been a star. He could win a Melrose Sevens medal. Evans, the

:22:09.:22:15.

beauty about the sport is that some of the fast guys get their chance.

:22:16.:22:27.

And then Greg. -- Greg O'Shea. He duck tackles and still has the pace

:22:28.:22:31.

and the presence to finish it off. What we call a lung buster.

:22:32.:22:36.

Absolutely. Four crackers.

:22:37.:22:43.

There were hundreds of tries. It was very difficult to choose. When we

:22:44.:22:49.

left there were about 120 tries scored. We found this was the one.

:22:50.:22:55.

Up against Dundee, Melrose, although I don't agree with this, a bit of

:22:56.:23:01.

showmanship. A lovely guy. A Goodwin but this is what took it. A wee bit

:23:02.:23:08.

of showmanship. And hopefully, it will be agreed with everyone, it's

:23:09.:23:13.

the Arne out shuffle there. It's a celebration of the great

:23:14.:23:17.

play. It's been a beautiful top of the field rugby. A lovely day. Not

:23:18.:23:23.

so much wind. Great diplays from teams and players from the first

:23:24.:23:30.

round? Bill was saying he has commentated on fantastic ties. And

:23:31.:23:33.

some of the best players he has seen.

:23:34.:23:38.

You could name lots of players here. They come here because it is the

:23:39.:23:42.

setting, the heritage, the culture. When you consider there are 40,000

:23:43.:23:47.

people over three days going to Hong Kong this weekend, the fact is it

:23:48.:23:52.

started here. The home of Sevens. Because it is an Olympic sport, the

:23:53.:23:57.

World Cup is in San Francisco. It goes across the world. Hundreds of

:23:58.:24:01.

millions of people watch this game. For me it is just an exciting. And

:24:02.:24:09.

as a former Scotland Sevens captain, the Sevens gave me everything to

:24:10.:24:13.

give me the confidence and the skill set. I hope that the kids get out in

:24:14.:24:19.

the garden. Play the game. It is where you analyse the skill set to

:24:20.:24:26.

make you a better rugby player. And an interesting win here for

:24:27.:24:33.

Edinburgh. One of the oldest rivalries in the world going

:24:34.:24:38.

head-to-head. A very Goodwin for Edinburgh by

:24:39.:24:44.

19-12. All happening behind our backs. A Goodwin for Edinburgh.

:24:45.:24:51.

Let's pay attention to the final. Harlequins against Melrose, what do

:24:52.:24:54.

you think about this as a Melrose man yourself.

:24:55.:24:59.

I think it will be a difficult final for Melrose. They have a shorter

:25:00.:25:05.

rest but at this time of the season, the boys are certainly fit enough.

:25:06.:25:10.

But back to the original position, what people play, this is special,

:25:11.:25:14.

playing with this crowd watching as well, for us to be involved on the

:25:15.:25:19.

outside, for the players on the pitch it is special. Some don't

:25:20.:25:24.

witness this, this is why with Melrose with the crowd, it will help

:25:25.:25:29.

them. But they have to shut the runners down. The Harlequins are

:25:30.:25:34.

dangerous. Can Melrose do it snrnths Yes, they

:25:35.:25:40.

can. If they leave it out on the Pischel and deny the harlequins

:25:41.:25:46.

possession and stop the rhythm and stop Charlie Walker playing. Then

:25:47.:25:55.

they could be in with a chance. This is the 2017 final, Melrose v

:25:56.:26:02.

Harlequins. Position, pride, honour, in the

:26:03.:26:05.

heart of the Scottish Borders, a battle of wit, of skill, of speed.

:26:06.:26:14.

A test of heart and spirit. Many stars have graced the hallowed turf.

:26:15.:26:21.

Heroes have been born, and legends grown over time. Today the kings of

:26:22.:26:29.

2017 will be crowned... This is Melrose, home to the oldest rugby

:26:30.:26:37.

Sevens tournament in the world. The final coming up live of the

:26:38.:26:48.

Aberdeen Asset Management 2017 Sevens.

:26:49.:26:54.

And we will take you through this one at The Greenyard.

:26:55.:26:59.

Charlie walker leads the harlequins out on to this famous turf. The last

:27:00.:27:10.

time Harlequins won here was 1987. Melrose last won here in 2011. A big

:27:11.:27:18.

win against Hamilton, 35-17. Both sides have experience of success

:27:19.:27:23.

leer. On the pitch. And as the sunset and the crowd applauds

:27:24.:27:38.

warmly. Ly here he come out. There are the Harlequins players.

:27:39.:28:04.

So, here we are. Colin Gregor beside he, we are ready for the kick-off of

:28:05.:28:15.

the Melrose Sevens final. Harlequins get the game under way.

:28:16.:28:24.

Possession is vital. If the company borders are to win

:28:25.:28:30.

this against the much-fancied Professional side.

:28:31.:28:38.

Ten minutes each way. There is Locking it's ton. He makes

:28:39.:28:42.

things tick. He gets them out of jail there.

:28:43.:28:50.

All of this is quite close to Melrose's try line. 20 metres away.

:28:51.:28:54.

Here come the Harlequins. A chance for Walker.

:28:55.:28:58.

He's got the try. Despite the tackle by Irvine-Hess,

:28:59.:29:12.

Harlequins have got the opener. Jonny Walker. The strength of

:29:13.:29:17.

Harlequins all day has been their defence and on that occasion the

:29:18.:29:22.

loose off-load from Melrose. Because they are in the Melrose 22, it is

:29:23.:29:34.

just great pace, and he has the strength, Charlie Walker, to finish

:29:35.:29:38.

it off. Walker's conversion going wide. He has the extra gear. He

:29:39.:29:51.

does, and it is his acceleration. Irvine-Hess sitting on his heels and

:29:52.:29:56.

when Charlie Walker wants to go, he explodes and Irvine-Hess cannot

:29:57.:30:00.

quite catch. On the touchline is the 17 stone figure catching the ball,

:30:01.:30:10.

Jonas Mikalcius. Craig Jackson. Outside it goes.

:30:11.:30:36.

Danger time for Melrose. Colvine is in. The Borders side is all square

:30:37.:30:52.

after two and a half minutes. Excellent response from Melrose.

:30:53.:30:59.

Pecqueur does well. Harlequins win the ball back. A counter ruck. Nyle

:31:00.:31:07.

Godsmark and Jackson. And the left footstep from Colvine. Charlie

:31:08.:31:11.

Walker, over the try line. Great response. That is some conversion.

:31:12.:31:22.

Craig Jackson. Harlequins five, Melrose seven as Jackson pops over

:31:23.:31:24.

the conversion. Two vital points. See if Melrose can apply the

:31:25.:31:38.

pressure from the start. Melrose tigerish and feverish in

:31:39.:32:10.

tackle. Calum Waters not going too far this time. Take your time.

:32:11.:32:20.

Colvine again. Can he make it himself? No, he can't. Bounces into

:32:21.:32:24.

touch. Support could not get there. Melrose making a nuisance at the

:32:25.:32:45.

breakdown. It is vital they do that. Harlequins have gone through phases.

:32:46.:32:49.

They have no possession and scored tries off the back of it.

:32:50.:32:55.

Did you see that? That was unbelievably lucky. It is a great

:32:56.:33:01.

breakaway. It will be a fine try for Harlequins. It is Calum Waters who

:33:02.:33:08.

gets the score. We will have to look at it again because it was a lucky

:33:09.:33:15.

ricochet. Calum Waters recognising Melrose did not have a sweeper in

:33:16.:33:21.

place. The kick execution was not what he wanted. He has the pace and

:33:22.:33:28.

awareness to finish things off. And he pops over the conversion. And so,

:33:29.:33:34.

that is seven points for Harlequins, which takes them to 12-7 stop again,

:33:35.:33:46.

Melrose' best defence, they have been making a nuisance of the

:33:47.:33:50.

breakdown. Calum Waters tries something different and ultimately

:33:51.:33:55.

it comes off. Very fortunate. This lad, Calum Waters, has the build of

:33:56.:34:02.

a sprinter. Very powerful. Lockington will try to open up the

:34:03.:34:08.

Harlequins defence. Very good rugby. That was Pecqueur in the follow-up.

:34:09.:34:19.

Nyle Godsmark. When you are under pressure and trying to do things

:34:20.:34:23.

quickly, it is when the errors creep in. We see the value of the

:34:24.:34:28.

off-load, getting Melrose in behind the Harlequins defence. Great

:34:29.:34:34.

recognition and awareness, he has been tackled and house to release

:34:35.:34:39.

the ball but as he pops up it goes forward. Just unfortunate that the

:34:40.:34:46.

attack comes to nothing. Aspland- Robinson needing treatment.

:34:47.:34:56.

Harlequins regroup. All of them young guys, all in their 20s, apart

:34:57.:35:02.

from Charlie Walker, the grand old age of 24, poor soul. An absolute

:35:03.:35:11.

veteran! Waters. Look at him go. You can see the mud leaving the soles of

:35:12.:35:22.

his boots. Irvine-Hess in the thick of it. Right through the middle. A

:35:23.:35:36.

desperate tackle. Harlequins not releasing. That is the pressure

:35:37.:35:43.

Melrose have put them under. Harlequins have not faced this sort

:35:44.:35:47.

of intensity and pressure today. They are not coping so far. Melrose

:35:48.:35:52.

are making it a real fight at the breakdown and they will get a lot of

:35:53.:35:58.

success from that. That was an unforced error. Indicating, there he

:35:59.:36:16.

is, a Hawick man. It is one of the things I like about rugby, whenever

:36:17.:36:23.

the format it, the players except for the referee says. They get on

:36:24.:36:27.

with the game and there are no histrionics about the decision. They

:36:28.:36:32.

may feel it but they do not show it. Craig Jackson has had a word and the

:36:33.:36:39.

referees said the assistant referee called it, so I have two this on to

:36:40.:36:47.

him. Perfectly clear. It is worth remembering Melrose had the second

:36:48.:36:50.

of the semifinals and so they have the shorter of the two rests will

:36:51.:36:56.

stop a chance for Melrose, half a chance. Pecqueur brought down.

:36:57.:37:04.

Picked up by Lockington. Colvine. Keen to take on the opposition. He

:37:05.:37:12.

knows somebody has to to penetrate. Anderson, strong and weaving. Walker

:37:13.:37:24.

is the fast man. Pecqueur will try... Here they go. A chance.

:37:25.:37:30.

Lockington is a way. Can he make it to the line? That looked like a high

:37:31.:37:37.

tackle. Watch the referee's decision. Very, very close. Now, it

:37:38.:37:48.

is a penalty try. For a high tackle in the act of scoring. It is all

:37:49.:37:55.

square, 12-12, and the replay will tell all. And Harlequins are down to

:37:56.:38:05.

six. Aspland- Robinson working so hard. In the process of scoring and

:38:06.:38:16.

it is a penalty try, right under the posts. There is a buzz around the

:38:17.:38:23.

Greenyards because the host side are back in the lead in the final. In

:38:24.:38:31.

the crowd is packed. They have stayed to watch this. It has been

:38:32.:38:36.

such a glorious day. By Dennis said there will be red faces tomorrow

:38:37.:38:40.

because of the sunshine, but -- I dare say. Irvine-Hess getting hold

:38:41.:38:50.

of Dino Lamb. Jonas Mikalcius, brought down by Nyle Godsmark. This

:38:51.:39:06.

is danger for Melrose. Waters, caught by Jackson. This is the guy

:39:07.:39:12.

who has the extra gear when it comes to speed. Nobody can get him. That

:39:13.:39:17.

is lovely running. Charlie Walker puts his foot to the floor and away

:39:18.:39:23.

he goes. They kept him out wide but Harlequins in this seesaw final...

:39:24.:39:31.

Is it a try? He has not touched it down. He has been held up. How on

:39:32.:39:38.

earth did that happen? What about Patrik Andersson, I think it is. He

:39:39.:39:44.

does not give up. Charlie Walker thinking he is scoring again. It

:39:45.:39:50.

would have been his eighth. And then Charlie Walker does not try to put

:39:51.:39:57.

it down. It looks like the arm was underneath but rather than fighting

:39:58.:40:03.

to put it down... He comes in, has a look, and that is at half-time. All

:40:04.:40:09.

of this in the first ten minutes. Melrose narrowly in the lead. Look

:40:10.:40:20.

at the crowd, just loving this and loving the atmosphere. And those are

:40:21.:40:26.

the guys who have entertained them this afternoon and they have it all

:40:27.:40:31.

to do. They have another ten minutes to make sevens history at the

:40:32.:40:39.

Greenyards. Again it is almost like scoring a try, the psychological

:40:40.:40:43.

boost they get from Charlie Walker not grounding the ball. And also how

:40:44.:40:50.

disappointed he is. It is so much hard work and energy expended. The

:40:51.:40:53.

pace around Lockington, outstanding work. Patrik Andersson is miles away

:40:54.:41:00.

but he wants to narrow the angle for the conversion. He was strong enough

:41:01.:41:07.

to lift up Charlie Walker, not one of the biggest of players, about 13

:41:08.:41:14.

stones, thereabouts. And Andersson, he might have earned his name in the

:41:15.:41:20.

record books. Having got the rub of the green with the charge down kick

:41:21.:41:24.

that ricocheted into the hands of Calum Waters for a score early in

:41:25.:41:30.

the half, they do not get quite so lucky then.

:41:31.:41:47.

That is a free ball for the opposition. Half-time was needed for

:41:48.:41:56.

Melrose. The fact it is ten minutes, the extra three minutes. The second

:41:57.:42:01.

semifinal, they have had less recovery. Hopefully they have been

:42:02.:42:12.

re-energise. Calum Waters caught in the far side. Just on the stroke of

:42:13.:42:22.

half-time. This is the man on whom the whole thing focused. My

:42:23.:42:28.

goodness, it bounces but he has a penalty because he was taken out

:42:29.:42:32.

after the chip ahead and that is a yellow card and it is Colvine, the

:42:33.:42:38.

Melrose captain. They stand no nonsense in seven aside rugby. That

:42:39.:42:43.

might have earned a penalty in 15s, although he might have gone off as

:42:44.:42:48.

well. Both teams down to six. Away goes Irvine-Hess. Lockington slides

:42:49.:42:58.

off the tackle. Gabriel Ibitoye beside him. Piracy by big Gabriel

:42:59.:43:08.

Ibitoye for Harlequins. Jonas Mikalcius striding away and this

:43:09.:43:12.

will put Harlequins back in the lead. Going in behind the crossbar.

:43:13.:43:18.

The guest side goes back ahead. Great work from Gabriel Ibitoye on

:43:19.:43:24.

the ground. Because he has won the turnover, Melrose are not set

:43:25.:43:28.

defensively and there is nobody on that side of the pitch and Jonas

:43:29.:43:39.

Mikalcius recognises that. Charlie Walker puts it over in the

:43:40.:43:47.

conversion. Our Harlequins back up to seven? Yes, they are.

:43:48.:43:53.

Melrose have got to stem the flood. They do because they are down to six

:43:54.:44:01.

for the next minute, as well. The sun behind the kick-off, difficult

:44:02.:44:10.

for the players to take. Big Dino Lamb. And Aspland- Robinson with the

:44:11.:44:22.

ball. A six strong lad. Waters and out it goes to Charlie Walker,

:44:23.:44:29.

trying to do it all himself. A chance for the big lad, Dino Lamb.

:44:30.:44:36.

Melrose looked just a bit tired in the tackle and outflanked on this

:44:37.:44:40.

side. Harlequins work the ball over to this touchline. Yes, it is

:44:41.:44:50.

desperate defence. Pecqueur steps in on the man leaving Jackson to try to

:44:51.:44:54.

make the tackle. It is a tired effort. The intensity with which

:44:55.:45:02.

Harlequins play at, it looks like it is taking its toll. That is an

:45:03.:45:07.

absolute shocker, missing a conversion in front of the posts.

:45:08.:45:12.

waters Dino Lamb with a try. He took his on conversion. Not quite

:45:13.:45:21.

so successful kicking as he was scoring the try.

:45:22.:45:27.

Patrick Anderson has been subbed off Melrose' side.

:45:28.:45:30.

Bruce Colvine is back on. All goes into touch.

:45:31.:45:34.

And the jumpers will be pleased in the line out that the sun is behind

:45:35.:45:40.

them. It's a low setting sun. You will maybe see the length of the

:45:41.:45:43.

chargers on the field in a second or so.

:45:44.:45:47.

Melrose on the bench looking anxious there. So here's the throw in.

:45:48.:45:53.

Melrose' ball. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink did the

:45:54.:45:56.

damage there. Here goes Austin Lockington. Look at the wee fellow

:45:57.:46:04.

with that side stepping! Oh, he's got the side step in.

:46:05.:46:10.

Jones is back. Opportunity knocks for Melrose if they can get the ball

:46:11.:46:14.

wide in a hurry. There's a man wide on the left. Come on, Godsmark can't

:46:15.:46:26.

make it. A great final this. It is absolutely nip and tuck. Harlequins

:46:27.:46:34.

ahead, 24-14. The knock on is given. Just marginal errors. Bruce Colvine

:46:35.:46:36.

not quite able to take it. On the spot.

:46:37.:46:53.

A tough call there. Colin, it was unfortunate that the

:46:54.:46:57.

Melrose captain, Bruce Colvine, knocked on there. It was a great

:46:58.:47:00.

opportunity with the men on this side? It was and again, coming from

:47:01.:47:06.

Austin Lockington. Off set pieces. The right foot step. It's so

:47:07.:47:10.

effective. It gets Melrose on the front foot. They worked hard to win

:47:11.:47:17.

the breakdown over the far touchline under the stands. And then the pass

:47:18.:47:22.

dipped. It was a tired pass. Bruce Colvine as he bent to get it,

:47:23.:47:28.

looking at the on rushing Harlequins' defence. Melrose are

:47:29.:47:32.

running on empty. Almost running on fumes. They have taken Godsmark off

:47:33.:47:39.

and Tythan Adams. . And they have brought on Murray.

:47:40.:47:51.

Now that's professionalalism and conditioning.

:47:52.:47:59.

They have to grab him. They have. Austin Lockington and Adams did the

:48:00.:48:03.

draw. They took two of them. 20 minutes is what we are looking for

:48:04.:48:06.

on the clock on the screens. That's the full-time. There is a score

:48:07.:48:15.

line. Harlequins, 24-14, ahead. 4.5 minutes to go, or theres about.

:48:16.:48:21.

A penalty to Melrose. Colvin bring it is this way. This is

:48:22.:48:27.

McAnd roux. Austin Lockington got through. He is just about running on

:48:28.:48:32.

empty. No energy to break a half tackle. Well worked by Melrose.

:48:33.:48:39.

Colvin again. McAnd roux. Great running here.

:48:40.:48:45.

Melrose are all over them. Plaque and yellow, like a swarm of bees.

:48:46.:48:51.

Colvin sees the gap, has he got the pace? No, he hasn't. McAndrews

:48:52.:48:56.

bulldozed out of it. Bodies everywhere. There will be a score

:48:57.:49:00.

for the Harlequins from long distance. Look at this, unless Ivans

:49:01.:49:08.

gets across. It will need two men. Oh, he's got him into a touch at the

:49:09.:49:14.

end. A fabulous defence by Melrose and away they come on the counter.

:49:15.:49:18.

Now, then, this is Sevens at its best and most exciting. You can hear

:49:19.:49:29.

the crowd rice to this. "Come on, Melrose" they're shouting, ""come

:49:30.:49:34.

on, Tythan Adams". Chased by Melrose. Craig Jackson is there.

:49:35.:49:39.

Let's see what the referee's decision is. What excitement, what

:49:40.:49:43.

an event. It didn't kick on. I don't think it

:49:44.:49:49.

was a knock-on, rather. But what work from Adams to get all the way

:49:50.:49:54.

back and hit the quick sand. It was knocked out of his hand from the

:49:55.:50:00.

Harlequins. It should have been try-scored.

:50:01.:50:05.

That was an adventure. Adams working his way back. A try

:50:06.:50:09.

saver in the corner. Not happy with that. Getting the ball in play. The

:50:10.:50:14.

interchange between him and Marcos Baghdatis.

:50:15.:50:19.

It is pinched by McAndrew. He's is scrum-half in 15s.

:50:20.:50:23.

Worldliwise in that part of the game. Off side by Harlequins. There

:50:24.:50:30.

is a half gap for everything, for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink but he

:50:31.:50:36.

has now. Three to one up, outside, inside, he's there! Score for

:50:37.:50:41.

Melrose! McAndrews gets the touchdown. 24-19. There's a long way

:50:42.:50:48.

to go. Jackson misses the conversion. Maybe should have taken

:50:49.:50:53.

more time. However, five points between the sides.

:50:54.:50:57.

Well done McAndrew. He snaffled the ball at the back of that scrum. They

:50:58.:51:02.

threw the dummy and got over the line. Big Jackson hurries the kick.

:51:03.:51:08.

Misses it. But they are back to obviously the five points. They will

:51:09.:51:21.

have it take tonne extra time. -- They will take it to extra time.

:51:22.:51:26.

Look at this snarling. Trying to get them wrapped up. Forced into touch.

:51:27.:51:33.

Great play by the big fella. The big harlequin down on the deck, Lamb.

:51:34.:51:42.

Now, that stand side was called. Melrose are looking down, applauding

:51:43.:51:45.

and cheering their side. Urging them on.

:51:46.:51:56.

Jonas Mikalcius shrugs his shoulder of the.

:51:57.:52:02.

Look at the time. They have to get the equaliser and

:52:03.:52:09.

convert it. For Harlequins there is fatigue

:52:10.:52:13.

here. They tonight work hard enough to get depth off the ball. They

:52:14.:52:18.

shovel past. It gives Melrose a chance to attack.

:52:19.:52:22.

This is Austin Lockington trying to do it again by himself. He may have

:52:23.:52:27.

lost it. He has. A chance for the Harlequins. Away

:52:28.:52:33.

they go again. This is going to be Charlie Walker making amends for his

:52:34.:52:39.

earlier error. That seal it is for the guest side, 29-19. Harlequins

:52:40.:52:44.

get the try. With time running out and in fact they are unfelt here.

:52:45.:52:52.

-- in fact they are on full-time here. That could be the one that

:52:53.:53:02.

seal it is for the Harlequins. Poor Lockington, he is down on the

:53:03.:53:05.

ground. It's that man, Charlie Walker with

:53:06.:53:10.

the final try of the day. Walker's conversion goes over.

:53:11.:53:16.

31-19. A big scoreline there, that belies how close that final has

:53:17.:53:20.

been. In the end it's a win for Harlequins. Their first since 1987.

:53:21.:53:34.

They will take the Melrose Cup. Well, I am standing here with Tony

:53:35.:53:40.

Dipro. Sum up the emotion, you got the job done? It's a relief.

:53:41.:53:47.

Whether or not chartie would score or not. And then fuming about the

:53:48.:53:52.

conversions. The guys were tired. One was against the post. It could

:53:53.:53:56.

have been crucial. But the guys worked hard. A brilliant final. The

:53:57.:54:01.

boys were shattered at the end of a great day.

:54:02.:54:06.

Melrose gave it an almighty effort. Roared on by the crowd. They gave

:54:07.:54:10.

you a fright? Completely. They wereful in. That was good. The play

:54:11.:54:16.

from their own end at the end to turning us over in the corner was

:54:17.:54:19.

magnificent. They have a lot to be proud of.

:54:20.:54:24.

30 years ago, Harlequins won the title, beating Melrose in the final,

:54:25.:54:29.

nice to repeat that bit of history? Yes, and hopefully, some of the guys

:54:30.:54:34.

will push on in the game. A few guys that we have big expectations for in

:54:35.:54:41.

the 15s game as well as the Sevens. There are many that have done the

:54:42.:54:45.

same. Hopefully it will be the same for some of these guys.

:54:46.:54:48.

Well done, Tony. Thank you for having us.

:54:49.:54:52.

Impressive stuff, Harlequins. Holding on to the end.

:54:53.:54:59.

The leading cup, you know all about lifting that, Scott. It is a great

:55:00.:55:04.

moment for a rugby player, when you are up against it? I thought Melrose

:55:05.:55:10.

were outstanding. Full credit to Harlequins and dare I say it, the

:55:11.:55:15.

captain, Charlie Walker was the stand out player. He had the last

:55:16.:55:20.

say in the tie. What a fantastic day. A fantastic

:55:21.:55:24.

final. Let's hand over for the

:55:25.:55:26.

presentation. Let's have a look at the scenes at

:55:27.:55:33.

the Main Grandstand. This Melrose Sevens and the Sevens convener, Ian

:55:34.:55:41.

Cooper with the Cup in front of him and alongside him Trevor Jackson and

:55:42.:55:49.

Gordon Chism, all of them do so much work to make the competition is so

:55:50.:55:52.

much success. The Cup is to be presented to the

:55:53.:55:56.

captain of the Harlequins' team, Charlie Walker. The players all come

:55:57.:56:01.

along and get their medals. This is what the players really want. This

:56:02.:56:06.

Melrose Sevens medal. It is coveted all over the world of rugby Sevens.

:56:07.:56:16.

These lads have managed to do it. So we'll just see the moment when

:56:17.:56:21.

Charlie Walker gets the Cup here from Mrs Lawson.

:56:22.:56:30.

Great excitement of course. There we are. There is the cup held aloft in

:56:31.:56:37.

the hands of the Harlequins' captain, Charlie Walker, deserving

:56:38.:56:45.

winners of this year's winners. The Harlequins side did a fantastic

:56:46.:56:50.

job. They are a professional side, a young developing professional side

:56:51.:56:52.

but a good team. Very much so. Dougie. Spot on. A

:56:53.:56:57.

very good team. Credit where it is due. Mell ruchings amateur, they

:56:58.:57:01.

gave absolutely everything here today.

:57:02.:57:08.

It was fun-packed, drama in the final, decisions, were they correct,

:57:09.:57:13.

were they not, certainly the score did not reflect any chance that

:57:14.:57:18.

Melrose could have taken the victory but they didn't. Harlequins came

:57:19.:57:22.

here, a young side. It shows that little bit of difference.

:57:23.:57:27.

Reflecting a great day of rugby here, Scott? Yes, the shots here.

:57:28.:57:32.

The trophy has been competed for since 1987. So many famous players

:57:33.:57:37.

have held the trophy. It is such a special moment. One of the proudest

:57:38.:57:43.

days of my career when illicited it back in '96. I'm sure that Charlie

:57:44.:57:49.

Walker will be delighted to put his Harlequins's name on the Cup.

:57:50.:57:53.

And they are the deserving team? Yes, very much. But this is the

:57:54.:57:58.

final gam of Bill Johnson and this will be remembered for that as well.

:57:59.:58:03.

It certainly well. It has been a glorious and a fantastic day. All of

:58:04.:58:06.

the smiles from the guys in the team. They played brilliantly up

:58:07.:58:14.

against the Melrose side. A valiant defence. From all of us here and all

:58:15.:58:21.

the team at The Greenyard, thank you so much for your company. Goodbye

:58:22.:58:23.

for now. MUSIC: Get Up and Use Me

:58:24.:59:00.

by Fire Engines This is a story of Scotland's

:59:01.:59:02.

post punk music scene. but it's about being fast, intense,

:59:03.:59:08.

and we're done. They were literally

:59:09.:59:14.

changing the world. It just felt like Scotland

was alive.
