We have got another busy afternoon ahead here at the BBC Sport Centre, | :00:07. | :00:12.
with the latest news and features. I'm Olly Foster. This is Saturday | :00:13. | :00:14.
Sportsday. Here is what is coming up. Back for | :00:15. | :00:30.
more is - England cricket have named their new head coach. We will have | :00:31. | :00:34.
the latest on Lords in a moment on the return of Peter Moores to the | :00:35. | :00:37.
national side. Nothing left to aim for. From being | :00:38. | :00:43.
the best in the world, a Paralympic rule change means that Danielle | :00:44. | :00:47.
Brown's career is now over. And one year on from the Boston | :00:48. | :00:51.
Marathon bombing, we are in the city ahead of Monday's race. | :00:52. | :00:57.
All that to come, but first, here are some of today's headlines. | :00:58. | :01:01.
The World Snooker championship is underway in Sheffield. Defending | :01:02. | :01:03.
champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has opened proceedings against the | :01:04. | :01:08.
Finnish qualifier. We will have more from the Crucible later in the | :01:09. | :01:10.
programme. Lee Westwood leads the Malaysian | :01:11. | :01:14.
Open by one shot, with one round to go in Kuala Lumpur. He has not won a | :01:15. | :01:17.
great tournament in two years. Fellow in Dishman Andy Sullivan is | :01:18. | :01:20.
one shot behind him. And Ellie Simmonds, Stephanie Slater | :01:21. | :01:24.
and Amy Marren were among those who qualified for the IPCC championship | :01:25. | :01:29.
on the opening day of the British Para-Swimming meet. | :01:30. | :01:33.
Let's get straight to the day's top story. Peter Moores was back at | :01:34. | :01:38.
Lord's this morning as England Cricket named him as their head | :01:39. | :01:41.
coach. It's the same job he had five years ago, before a rift with Kevin | :01:42. | :01:45.
Pietersen forced him out. Our reporter Ben Smith is live at Lord's | :01:46. | :01:48.
for us. Afternoon, Ben. The ECB say they had an extremely impressive | :01:49. | :01:51.
short list of candidates for the role. Moore's first stint was hardly | :01:52. | :01:55.
glittering, but he's got another chance? He certainly has. In 2009, | :01:56. | :02:04.
Peter Moores was sacked from his position as the head coach of a good | :02:05. | :02:08.
cricket after a high-profile falling out with the then captain, Kevin | :02:09. | :02:12.
Pietersen. Everything has changed now and after a disastrous winter in | :02:13. | :02:16.
Australia, and some embarrassment at the World Cup in Bangladesh, England | :02:17. | :02:20.
are very much in need of new direction and new leadership. After | :02:21. | :02:24.
the press conference this morning, I spoke to Peter Moores and I started | :02:25. | :02:27.
by asking him what it was like to get a second bite of the cherry. It | :02:28. | :02:33.
probably is a bit unprecedented. You don't normally get a second chance. | :02:34. | :02:37.
Maybe the way I left was a bit strange as well. I am just looking | :02:38. | :02:43.
forward to it. It has been a tough winter. I had a chance to talk to | :02:44. | :02:52.
Alastair Cook and help clear his vision. He has some strong views on | :02:53. | :03:02.
where things need to go. I'm afraid we have lost the line to | :03:03. | :03:13.
Lord's. Chile, the relationship between coach and captain Alastair | :03:14. | :03:17.
Cook will be under a lot of scrutiny after what happened with Moores and | :03:18. | :03:19.
Kevin Pietersen five years ago when they fell out. But here was the | :03:20. | :03:23.
England captain, Alastair Cook, today. I have been in limbo over the | :03:24. | :03:29.
last couple of months since Andy Flower steps down. So to finally get | :03:30. | :03:34.
to the point where we have a new coach, we can start planning the | :03:35. | :03:40.
future. It is going to be small steps and it will take time to | :03:41. | :03:44.
rebuild. But we have a huge amount of talent in the country, and it is | :03:45. | :03:47.
an exciting time to be an England player. Test places are up for | :03:48. | :03:54.
grabs. One day places are up for grabs. And we have a new leadership | :03:55. | :03:59.
group at the top. To be part of that is exciting. And it is exciting to | :04:00. | :04:04.
regain connection with Lords as well! We have just heard from the | :04:05. | :04:10.
captain, Alastair Cook are talking about building England for the | :04:11. | :04:14.
future and rebuilding a relationship with the coach. He got on very well | :04:15. | :04:17.
with Andy Flower, but Kevin Pietersen is still on the agenda? | :04:18. | :04:23.
Yes, it is very rare these days that an England cricket press conference | :04:24. | :04:28.
goes by without the question of Kevin Pietersen being brought up, | :04:29. | :04:31.
and today was no exception. But it was clear from both Peter Moores and | :04:32. | :04:35.
the chief executive of the ECB that there is no way back to Kevin | :04:36. | :04:38.
Pietersen under this current leadership. England is looking to | :04:39. | :04:41.
the future, and they hope today marks the start of a new era. | :04:42. | :04:50.
You may remember, we told you the story of Danielle Brown last year. | :04:51. | :04:54.
The British archer was planning for a hat-trick of Paralympic golds, but | :04:55. | :04:57.
after her success in Beijing and London, she won't be going to Rio | :04:58. | :05:01.
because she no longer qualifies as a Paralympic athlete. In an exclusive | :05:02. | :05:04.
interview, she told our reporter, Nick Hope, how she was accused of | :05:05. | :05:08.
lying and how she has felt let down by the Paralympic movement. I have | :05:09. | :05:19.
got something called complex regional pain syndrome, which causes | :05:20. | :05:24.
chronic pain in both my feet. My movement is quite clumsy. I have got | :05:25. | :05:28.
no sensations in my feet apart from hot and cold, so I don't know where | :05:29. | :05:31.
they are in relation to the rest of me. So I end up falling over a lot. | :05:32. | :05:36.
I use crutches to get around. I use a wheelchair for longer distances | :05:37. | :05:39.
because I just can't walk it. Danielle Brown was Paralympic damp | :05:40. | :05:44.
union both Beijing and London. She is so skilled at her sport that she | :05:45. | :05:49.
has also competed as an able-bodied archer and won, was called in Delhi | :05:50. | :05:53.
four years ago. But her Paralympic career was always her priority, | :05:54. | :05:56.
until world archery change their rules last year and deemed her | :05:57. | :06:01.
ineligible. She challenged the decision, but endured an agonising | :06:02. | :06:07.
and ultimately unsuccessful retest. The classifiers were not | :06:08. | :06:10.
particularly understanding about my condition. They were pulling my feet | :06:11. | :06:14.
around to the point where I was in so much pain that I could not walk, | :06:15. | :06:18.
eat or sleep for two days afterwards. They thought I might be | :06:19. | :06:22.
making it up . Was I keeping track of the points. They were writing | :06:23. | :06:25.
them down, and I got more than enough to pass. A week later, they | :06:26. | :06:30.
turned round and said that they had seen me walking on YouTube videos so | :06:31. | :06:35.
I was no longer eligible. The International Paralympic committee | :06:36. | :06:39.
and world archery say they followed their rules by the book and that | :06:40. | :06:43.
Danielle Brown is an unfortunate casualties of that tightening of the | :06:44. | :06:47.
regulations, but she has been left heartbroken, concerned about how she | :06:48. | :06:49.
will pay her mortgage and worried about the direction of the | :06:50. | :06:54.
Paralympic movement. Unfortunately, this invisible disabilities are the | :06:55. | :06:58.
ones they seem to be targeting. It was not until I went to Beijing that | :06:59. | :07:02.
I came to terms with having a disability. Seeing the most amazing | :07:03. | :07:07.
and inspirational people achieving such great things in spite of their | :07:08. | :07:11.
disabilities made me think, what have I got to worry about? And I | :07:12. | :07:16.
accepted myself for July was, rather than who I wanted to be. This rules | :07:17. | :07:23.
will limit the amount of people that can get those opportunities. It is | :07:24. | :07:30.
such a shame. As soon as money was poured into the sport, the | :07:31. | :07:33.
Paralympic values of inclusion and equality go out of the window. | :07:34. | :07:37.
Although Danielle Brown is still angry and upset about the way she | :07:38. | :07:39.
has been treated, she has not finished with archery, and aims to | :07:40. | :07:44.
channel that frustrated in a positive way and guide others in the | :07:45. | :07:49.
sport. So many people helped me to get to where I got, and now it is | :07:50. | :07:53.
time for me to put something back and help others achieve their | :07:54. | :07:57.
ambitions. I put down all my success to being mentally stronger than my | :07:58. | :08:00.
competitors, so I want to teach people how to do that. She has now | :08:01. | :08:04.
abandoned any hope of a Paralympic or able-bodied future, but still | :08:05. | :08:08.
allows herself to look back on past achievements. Amongst these amazing | :08:09. | :08:12.
medals, one in particular that must mean a lot to you. Gold in London. | :08:13. | :08:18.
This is definitely my favourite. If it was going to be the end, I would | :08:19. | :08:21.
rather have this one than any other. I don't think you could ever beat a | :08:22. | :08:26.
home games. We wish her well with whatever she | :08:27. | :08:29.
does next in her career. The World Snooker Championship is | :08:30. | :08:32.
underway in Sheffield. Ronnie O'Sullivan has started the defence | :08:33. | :08:35.
of his title and leads against Robin Hull. Of course, you'll be able to | :08:36. | :08:40.
watch every frame across the BBC. From the Crucible, here's Hazel | :08:41. | :08:45.
Irvine. Day one of the Dafabet World | :08:46. | :08:48.
Championship, and it is Ronnie O'Sullivan firmly in the spotlight, | :08:49. | :08:53.
trying to do what this man has done, to win the world championship | :08:54. | :08:57.
six times in total. But Ronnie is going for three in a row, which has | :08:58. | :09:01.
not been done since Hendry's days. There is a lot riding on this for | :09:02. | :09:07.
him? There is. If he is going to break the records and win it eight | :09:08. | :09:11.
times, which is looking further ahead into the future, perhaps this | :09:12. | :09:16.
year is important. He will have great opportunities, but as he gets | :09:17. | :09:20.
older, it will get harder. He was the first man out this morning in | :09:21. | :09:23.
his match against Robin Hull Finland, but of those in the draw | :09:24. | :09:28.
this time, who are best placed to challenge one in this world | :09:29. | :09:31.
championship? Best post to challenge him is in jewellery, who had a | :09:32. | :09:34.
fantastic season. But when they played recently, in June we was | :09:35. | :09:42.
outclassed by Ronnie O'Sullivan. Ding Junhui has won five events, | :09:43. | :09:46.
which has not been done since Stephen Hendry's season. Of the | :09:47. | :09:49.
others, there are the likes of Neil Robertson, Sean Murphy, Marco Fu, | :09:50. | :09:55.
the quiet man. Always regarded in terms of being favourite for this | :09:56. | :09:59.
tournament, and the likes of Arie Hawkins as well, last year's | :10:00. | :10:03.
runner-up. So many possibilities. Yes, there are, but they are all | :10:04. | :10:08.
unfortunately queueing up to be in the shadow of Ronnie O'Sullivan. | :10:09. | :10:12.
That has been the story so far. The only possibility is if Ronnie | :10:13. | :10:16.
O'Sullivan does not ring his A going to the table and gives the other | :10:17. | :10:19.
players some hope. But judging by the bookmakers, if he plays to any | :10:20. | :10:26.
type of standard, it has been shown in the past that the best of the | :10:27. | :10:30.
other players can do is to match him. Nobody can outclass him. There | :10:31. | :10:35.
is the problem. Having said that, we are talking about some of the | :10:36. | :10:38.
classiest players there has ever been. Second week of the world | :10:39. | :10:43.
championship is where it starts to unfold. We may see somebody come | :10:44. | :10:47.
from the pack and show some real form that can test anybody. So many | :10:48. | :10:52.
possibilities, so much look forward to we will be back on the air on BBC | :10:53. | :10:56.
Two at one o'clock. Hope you join us. | :10:57. | :11:03.
The Womens' Super League season kicked off this week. There are two | :11:04. | :11:06.
divisions this season, reflecting the growth and strength of the game. | :11:07. | :11:09.
Birmingham City Ladies are also into the semi-finals of the Champions | :11:10. | :11:12.
League. They play their first leg this afternoon against the Swedish | :11:13. | :11:14.
side, Tyreso. It is like a dream come true to play | :11:15. | :11:19.
at this level and to be in the semifinals of a Champions League. | :11:20. | :11:22.
You watch the men's and you watch it on TV and you get a feel for it. For | :11:23. | :11:27.
us to be here is massive, so I hope this can be the year we can win it. | :11:28. | :11:31.
It's the Boston Marathon on Monday, Patriots' Day in America. A year | :11:32. | :11:34.
ago, two explosions near the finish line killed three people and injured | :11:35. | :11:38.
hundreds. A man of Chechen origin is due to appear in court later this | :11:39. | :11:41.
year, charged with planting the bombs on the marathon route. Lee | :11:42. | :11:50.
James is in the city for us. I am in Boston. 12 months ago, | :11:51. | :11:54.
thousands of people were all around me. The finishing line was in sight | :11:55. | :11:57.
when tragedy struck the Boston Marathon. At 2:49pm, the first of | :11:58. | :12:04.
two bombs exploded, killing three people and injuring hundreds more | :12:05. | :12:07.
and changing the lives of so many in this city forever. 5600 people start | :12:08. | :12:11.
of the Marathon last year, but were unable to complete the race. Many of | :12:12. | :12:16.
them will be competing again on Monday. 36,000 people are expected | :12:17. | :12:21.
to take part, and they anticipate that over 1 million people will line | :12:22. | :12:25.
the course, from the start to hear in the city of Boston. You can | :12:26. | :12:29.
imagine how emotional the final mile will be. Take a look down the | :12:30. | :12:33.
street. The runners will be coming up here towards the finishing line. | :12:34. | :12:37.
Many spectators will be at the same vantage point I work 12 months ago. | :12:38. | :12:42.
Some will cross the finish line holding the hands of their loved | :12:43. | :12:46.
ones taking part. It will be a very emotional Marathon in Boston. My | :12:47. | :12:53.
hope is that everybody is as resilient and committed to the | :12:54. | :12:57.
security and safety of the spectators and runners as they were | :12:58. | :13:01.
last year, when they shop down this entire city and everybody did | :13:02. | :13:05.
exactly what they needed to do to help . You will see the same this | :13:06. | :13:09.
year. The city really does seem to have come together after the events | :13:10. | :13:14.
of 12 months ago. You can see the colours of blue and yellow | :13:15. | :13:18.
everywhere. Boston shrunk, the slogan, is on T-shirts and banners. | :13:19. | :13:22.
Some have even tattooed it onto themselves. The world's oldest and | :13:23. | :13:26.
most prodigious Marathon will be a very poignant event on Monday. But | :13:27. | :13:30.
the city says it is time to run again. | :13:31. | :13:32.
That's just about it. There's one match underway in the Premier | :13:33. | :13:37.
League. 0-0 between Spurs and Fulham. There's commentary of that | :13:38. | :13:44.
match over on BBC Radio 5 Live. Don't forget the Grand Prix | :13:45. | :13:47.
qualifying highlights coming up on BBC One. I'll be on BBC News through | :13:48. | :13:50.
the afternoon with regular updates, but from all of us at the BBC Sport | :13:51. | :13:54.
Centre, have a great Easter weekend, whatever sport you're watching. | :13:55. | :13:55.
Goodbye. | :13:56. | :14:00. |
