Hello and welcome to the BBC sports Centre. Over the next 15 minutes, I | :00:07. | :00:11.
will be taking you through the day 's top stories from the world of | :00:12. | :00:13.
sport. This is Saturday Sportsday. Coming up in the programme: We will | :00:14. | :00:31.
hear from the poster boy of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. | :00:32. | :00:35.
Michael Jamieson tells us how he is going for gold in his home city. We | :00:36. | :00:40.
go behind the scenes with the only all-female crew at this year 's | :00:41. | :00:44.
round the world yacht race, as they prepare for nine months at sea. And | :00:45. | :00:50.
we will be live in Leeds, as the Rhinos take on Saint Helens. All of | :00:51. | :00:54.
that to come but first, to some of the stories making the headlines | :00:55. | :01:00.
this weekend. Brighton are into the championship | :01:01. | :01:04.
play-off places after beating the overall last night. The defeat | :01:05. | :01:07.
confirms their regulation to league one. Gary Johnson says it is sad but | :01:08. | :01:14.
not a shock. Northampton Saints remain on course for a European and | :01:15. | :01:18.
domestic double. They are second in the premiership and also through to | :01:19. | :01:22.
the final of the challenge cup after beating harlequins last night. -- | :01:23. | :01:31.
Harlequins. And Ronnie O'Sullivan resumed his second-round match | :01:32. | :01:36.
against Joe Perry this morning, trailing by 9-7. | :01:37. | :01:43.
It is less than 100 days until is Glasgow hosts the Commonwealth | :01:44. | :01:46.
Games. Michael Jamieson has been counting those days down ever since | :01:47. | :01:50.
winning silver in London. He says the games will be the highlight of | :01:51. | :01:58.
his career to date. For months, a city has strained | :01:59. | :02:02.
under the weight of heavy construction. New venue now dominate | :02:03. | :02:07.
the skyline and old venues have been transformed for track and field. The | :02:08. | :02:10.
Commonwealth games are coming and the clock is ticking. And when the | :02:11. | :02:15.
building stops on the games begin, the people here will put on a | :02:16. | :02:21.
party. The Glaswegians are fiercely proud of their hospitality but they | :02:22. | :02:25.
are also immensely proud of their own local heroes for these games, | :02:26. | :02:28.
there is one name that stands out above the rest. Jameson in for. It | :02:29. | :02:38.
is a fantastic silver medal. In the games in London changed my life. -- | :02:39. | :02:46.
the Olympic Games. It has made me enjoy things so much more, enjoy the | :02:47. | :02:49.
process, enjoying the lifestyle of being an athlete. Where will you be? | :02:50. | :02:57.
With this profile comes extra responsibilities. He is one of the | :02:58. | :03:02.
key faces of the games this summer. When people mention Michael | :03:03. | :03:06.
Jamieson, the Commonwealth games, the phase that comes out as the | :03:07. | :03:09.
poster boy. You about poster boy of Glasgow 2014. It has been surreal. | :03:10. | :03:15.
Being an ambassador for the Commonwealth games, I could never | :03:16. | :03:17.
have imagined something like that happening. | :03:18. | :03:26.
But the key focus is going one better than London. He believes he | :03:27. | :03:28.
is now stronger physically and more importantly mentally. It is the | :03:29. | :03:33.
reason why I never won Olympic gold, because I didn't think about winning | :03:34. | :03:37.
Olympic gold until I was in the water. Looking back on it, that | :03:38. | :03:40.
psychological difference is the reason I didn't win. That is what | :03:41. | :03:45.
has changed. Talk us through the Commonwealth capital letter games | :03:46. | :03:57.
dream. -- Commonwealth Games. I am an athlete that loves the big | :03:58. | :04:00.
occasions, the added pressure and expectation. Hearing the crowd in | :04:01. | :04:05.
London, on the last 50, it helps bring you home. I am not sure | :04:06. | :04:08.
spectators really realise the influence they can have. Having this | :04:09. | :04:14.
arena packed to the rafters and to hear the noise could help me to | :04:15. | :04:19.
something that would be pretty special. The poster boy is ready and | :04:20. | :04:27.
this time, he once gold. -- wants. | :04:28. | :04:32.
That pool is hosting its first international event since the London | :04:33. | :04:36.
games. The World Series diving has plenty of 2012 heroes taking part | :04:37. | :04:39.
and getting in some big competition practice before going to Glasgow. | :04:40. | :04:45.
The Aquatics Centre behind me is where London 2012, Tom Daley won | :04:46. | :04:53.
Britain's only limbic diving medal. We have already beaten that total. | :04:54. | :05:01.
Yesterday, this pair won their first medal of the season, claiming | :05:02. | :05:06.
silver. There was more success when this pad claimed bronze in the | :05:07. | :05:10.
final. On Sunday, attention turned to Tom Daley. He is competing in the | :05:11. | :05:14.
ten metre event and taking on David Dyer, the reigning Olympic champion. | :05:15. | :05:19.
It would be amazing to do well in front of the home crowd. It would be | :05:20. | :05:24.
possible to relive the Olympic atmosphere, feeling like things are | :05:25. | :05:29.
coming together. I put in a lot of hard work over the last six months | :05:30. | :05:32.
to try and get to the stage now where I feel like I'm diving well | :05:33. | :05:36.
and feeling good. Hopefully, it will also offer. For updates, keep across | :05:37. | :05:41.
BBC Radio five live this weekend and check out the BBC sport website. | :05:42. | :05:46.
To a group of women on the water, rather than in it, but no less | :05:47. | :05:53.
brave. The crew of team SCA are the only female crew taking part in this | :05:54. | :05:58.
year 's race. The team of 11 girls will sail around the clock for nine | :05:59. | :06:06.
months. It is known as the toughest Ocean | :06:07. | :06:10.
race in the world. 11 women, one boat, nine months, one challenge. | :06:11. | :06:17.
Nobody should underestimate what these girls are going to do. When | :06:18. | :06:23.
we're out there, we only have each other to depend on. You are trusting | :06:24. | :06:27.
them with your life. It is intense. There is rivalry between teams. I | :06:28. | :06:31.
cannot wait to get on at the start line. The Volvo Ocean race for me is | :06:32. | :06:37.
the pinnacle crew around the world event. The opportunity has arisen | :06:38. | :06:41.
with this team for girls to compete on a level playing field with the | :06:42. | :06:45.
guys in the race. I don't think there is a female sailor who is not | :06:46. | :06:50.
aware of what can come from this, and the inspiration we can beat a | :06:51. | :06:55.
future generations of sailors. But only have I never sailed around the | :06:56. | :06:59.
world before, I will not have sailed against most of these guys until we | :07:00. | :07:02.
get out there and start the race. For us, we have something to prove. | :07:03. | :07:06.
This is the first opportunity that women have ever really had in the | :07:07. | :07:12.
Volvo race, or in fact, any big boat race. The last time there was an | :07:13. | :07:16.
all-female crew in this race was 12 years ago but this is the first time | :07:17. | :07:19.
a team has been put together in the same way as an all-male team. There | :07:20. | :07:24.
is no excuse. We know we are getting stronger. We know we are making | :07:25. | :07:27.
fewer mistakes and ultimately, the Volvo race is about who makes the | :07:28. | :07:32.
fewest mistakes. Hopefully, we will eliminate all our mistakes now and | :07:33. | :07:38.
we will be fine for the race. If you're feeling tired or fatigued, | :07:39. | :07:42.
your fellow team-mate can say, come on, let's get this done and it helps | :07:43. | :07:49.
spur you on. It is always worth. You never more than a metre away from | :07:50. | :07:56.
anyone else. I suppose, we have a big goal and that is what drives | :07:57. | :08:00.
you. All of those little things, you've just got to make sure that | :08:01. | :08:05.
they don't take over. Whether someone has left a wet sock in your | :08:06. | :08:09.
bank or not is not as important. You've got to try and manage that. | :08:10. | :08:21.
-- in your bunk bed. If we can get people excited about women being in | :08:22. | :08:26.
this race and we prove a point, we will prove our goal. | :08:27. | :08:34.
Go, girls! There has been a treat for Ronnie O'Sullivan fans in | :08:35. | :08:41.
Sheffield this morning. Just when it looked like the defending champion | :08:42. | :08:44.
might be knocked out in the second round, the rocket came back from | :08:45. | :08:53.
9-7, to beat Joe Perry 13-11 and make it into the quarterfinals. The | :08:54. | :08:56.
rest of the actions on BBC Two from one o'clock. Ronnie knows the | :08:57. | :09:00.
Crucible better than most. He has won a world championship that five | :09:01. | :09:06.
times but what is it really like? We took a peek behind the scenes. | :09:07. | :09:15.
We are backstage at a very crammed, historic Crucible Theatre. The | :09:16. | :09:22.
players wait, locked in their own thoughts, to be introduced. There | :09:23. | :09:28.
are some famous names, real legends of the game is here. They wait for | :09:29. | :09:32.
that introduction and these are the really nervous moments. Then they | :09:33. | :09:36.
will be introduced down his dark corridors, through the famous | :09:37. | :09:40.
curtain. This is the moment when the adrenaline gets pumping. Finally, | :09:41. | :09:45.
you see the crowd. 980 people. You are writing to the Crucible Theatre. | :09:46. | :09:50.
Two tables, one for the final few days, semifinal and final. This is | :09:51. | :09:53.
the view you have. You are sitting in the crowd basically, right next | :09:54. | :09:57.
to the table. You can watch your opponent go about his business. This | :09:58. | :10:01.
is as good as it gets for any snooker. | :10:02. | :10:09.
George just loves the snooker. Saracens are a game away from the | :10:10. | :10:15.
final of European rugby union 's most prestigious trophy. They take | :10:16. | :10:21.
on Claremont this afternoon. Saracens know it is time to deliver. | :10:22. | :10:25.
They lost at the same point last year, one of three semifinal defeats | :10:26. | :10:30.
last season. The important thing is that you get into the semifinals, | :10:31. | :10:33.
you present yourself at the business end of the season. I would much | :10:34. | :10:38.
rather be criticised for losing the odd semifinal, rather than not being | :10:39. | :10:41.
there at all. Consistently, we are getting there. Not just in the | :10:42. | :10:45.
domestic edition, but Europe as well. We will win one of them. | :10:46. | :10:53.
The union isn't getting all the limelight this weekend because rugby | :10:54. | :10:57.
league's challenge cup is into its fifth round. The standout fixture is | :10:58. | :11:02.
live this afternoon as Leeds rhinos take on Saint Helens. Mark Chapman | :11:03. | :11:06.
is getting ready to host what should be a cracking game. | :11:07. | :11:10.
We are very excited about this game this afternoon. We are delighted to | :11:11. | :11:16.
say that the head coach of Leeds Rhinos is with us. It should be a | :11:17. | :11:20.
cracker, shouldn't it? We've been looking forward to this one since we | :11:21. | :11:23.
were drawn out of the bag a few weeks ago. Both teams are in good | :11:24. | :11:27.
form. Saints have found a little bit of a blip recently. When we made the | :11:28. | :11:39.
draw, they were flying and unbeaten. The cliches are that the form goes | :11:40. | :11:43.
out the window but it is true. It is true. They have lost a couple of | :11:44. | :11:47.
games and that was over the space of three days. I think the first eight | :11:48. | :11:51.
games that they have one will have more of a bearing. Your super league | :11:52. | :11:56.
game earlier on in the season was a cracker and it went down to the | :11:57. | :12:00.
final play of the game. We are expecting a game between two of the | :12:01. | :12:03.
best lines in super league, aren't we? Yes, and that is what is | :12:04. | :12:08.
mouthwatering about it. Personally, and for our players, we know that | :12:09. | :12:14.
this is a challenge cup and it is do or die. At the same time, we are | :12:15. | :12:17.
fans of rugby league as well. As soon as we got drawn out of the bag, | :12:18. | :12:22.
we had a smile and we thought, they are flying and we are a strong team. | :12:23. | :12:26.
It should make for a big game. These are the games you want to be | :12:27. | :12:30.
involved in. If you're going to win the challenge cup, if you're going | :12:31. | :12:34.
to get to Wembley, you got to meet big sides on the way. Rarely do you | :12:35. | :12:39.
get the final without meeting a big team. At some stage, you're going to | :12:40. | :12:46.
have to beat them. We are going to meet Saints along the way or even a | :12:47. | :12:53.
final. We are looking forward to it. It will be a big game. It would be a | :12:54. | :13:00.
big crowd. Briefly, what does it mean? You get to Wembley, to the | :13:01. | :13:03.
final, it's been awhile since you've it. People keep saying that. I tried | :13:04. | :13:12.
not to. If you have alluded to the fact we have a negative history with | :13:13. | :13:15.
a cup, he got to get the final first. The fact that we have failed | :13:16. | :13:24.
at the final hurdle recently, I don't think such a big thing. We are | :13:25. | :13:28.
aiming to get there. We don't fear the cup. We know it can be hard if | :13:29. | :13:33.
you don't win it but we are looking forward to it. Thank you for joining | :13:34. | :13:37.
us. I really appreciated. We can get you to tell us who is going to win | :13:38. | :13:39.
this. One score in the Premier league to | :13:40. | :13:58.
give you. Southampton are leading Everton 1-0. That's it from us. | :13:59. | :14:02. |
