Wales v Scotland 2010, one of the most dramatic

and memorable games in Welsh rugby history.

Down and out by half-time, the courageous fightback,

a thrilling finale and some big, big decisions.

Lee Byrne, it's a trip and he's down!

Lee Byrne is down.

Brave call now and they have to go. They have to go.

As a player, it's important you have belief in your game plan,

your fellow team-mates.

When you look around and see the talent around you,

it's always uplifting and, you know, you're always aware that

you can score right in the final moments of any game.

Do they go for the draw? Ambition.

Gone for the draw.

That decision was of enormous significance,

especially given what had happened at Twickenham a week earlier.

Ill-discipline had cost Wales dearly that day.

Alun Wyn Jones carded for tripping Dylan Hartley.

Wales would ship 17 points while he was in the bin.

Tries for James Haskell and Danny Care,

and Jonny Wilkinson put the boot in as well.

There were signs of a comeback in the second half.

Tries from me Adam Jones and James Hook lifted Wales for a short while.

But, late on, James Haskell scored his second of the afternoon

to round off a 30-17 win.

And it fell to Wales, seven days later,

to put things right against Scotland in Cardiff.

It was awesome to have our second game at home

in the Millennium Stadium which is a special place to play.

The Scots had asked for the roof to be open. It was a glorious day.

We were going into it hurt after the disappointment of losing Twickenham.

Warren made it known to us and the public

that he was disappointed with our performance

and it was time for us to front up.

We were looking forward to the challenge

of playing a good Scottish side.

We knew the importance of this game. We had to win.

Sport is about momentum, especially the Six Nations.

You can't lose back-to-back games otherwise, you know,

you're going to come under a heap of criticism.

That's how ruthless it is.

As players, we knew we had to deliver

and we had to be successful in this game.

What a noise there is,

roof open or closed inside this Millennium Stadium as

Wales get their first home game underway in this Six Nations.

And already the assault comes in on the blue jerseys.

REFEREE BLOWS WHISTLE

But Scotland have a penalty early.

Release the tackler.

Early over-exuberance from the Welsh players.

Yeah, it was a good opportunity.

I thought that Paterson was nailed by Andy Powell,

and turned him the wrong way.

But the penalty goes to Scotland.

Chris Paterson, a modest, unassuming man.

He'll be a bit bothered by all the fuss around his hundredth cap.

He would swap a good few of them for a precious victory today.

Dan Parks - kicking from hand is his real strength.

Good hands from Scotland and they have an overlap if they can use it

but it's forwards out there and Kelly Brown.

Good hands by Lamont. Saw the overlap.

In to Sean Lamont.

Adam Jones was waiting.

Away, tacklers. He's on his feet. He's fine.

Chris Paterson back, just about on his feet.

Hands off, red. Careful, eight.

Oh, through goes John Barclay.

Barclay breaks through the Welsh tacklers.

What a start for Scotland! What a start for John Barclay!

Good pressure. Good recycling of the ball. Nothing dramatic or silly.

Kept the ball in hand. Gave it to the forwards.

That is just a poor tackle, Cooper and Hook.

And now the man who is a little bit groggy but playing in his 100th cap

will try and add an extra two points.

Looks good.

Never likely to miss that one and Scotland have a seven-point lead.

Touch, pause, engage.

WHISTLE

The penalty to Wales this time.

-No bind. Just on his shoulder.

-Yeah.

-Euan Murray disagrees.

-Yeah, as he would!

And Stephen Jones seldom misses either,

and claws back a little bit of the ground lost.

Ross Ford again, so often the ball carrier.

Well, they won't go wide because no-one's there.

-He's got to sit and...

-Drop goal for Parks.

And Dan Parks adds three more points to the collection for Scotland.

It's a simple game plan and it's effective at the moment.

Scotland down to 14 men again.

Treatment being meted out. I can't see for the doctor who it is

but Scotland's ball at the moment.

I think it's Barclay who's down.

It is but he's back on his feet as the kick goes in again

and Lee Byrne stumbles just for a moment and pressure from Morrison.

Gets it away to Williams.

Rory Lamont is there. The quick one.

It's Scotland with the assault at the moment. Kelly Brown.

There's no full-back as well. No full-back at home.

Almost dropped by Sean Lamont but hangs onto it

and Scotland within seven metres.

Can they make something of it? No.

Stephen Jones is running back to the halfway line, happy with his work,

Long restart and forward comes Sean Lamont, building up a head of steam.

Well, why, oh, why did he kick?

He's injured his left arm. He just piles his head in.

There he is. He's never happy when things go against him.

Two tries from Scotland but they're getting closer, Wales.

Yeah, he'll be disappointed with that three points.

Scotland have played very, very well.

Error-free rugby, played the positional game,

and they've turned the pressure into points.

Wales, far too many errors throughout the first half.

Scotland were top drawer.

They were clinical. They were ruthless.

They created some quality tries.

Barclay made a great burst up the middle.

Dan Parks was superb in that first half.

He controlled the game very well.

He put a lovely grubber kick through for one of the tries

and they were superb.

They caused us a lot of problems with their attacking game

and it was hard work for us.

Scotland's dominance came at a cost.

Two star players were rushed to hospital at half-time,

Chris Paterson with an abdominal injury and, more seriously,

Thom Evans with a severe spinal injury,

which would mean he'd never play rugby again.

Ironically, as he made his way to hospital,

his cousin, radio DJ Chris Evans,

appeared on the pitch for the half-time entertainment.

For Wales, though, defeat at home to Scotland would spell disaster

so it was 18-9 with 40 minutes to go,

and one of the craziest halves of rugby you're ever likely to witness.

We just had to become more ruthless and more efficient

and more clinical at taking our chances.

I knew, with the wonderful talent we had in our backline,

that it wasn't going to be too long

before we were going to get reward for all our hard work.

Fascinating 40 minutes ahead because Scotland unused to this position.

They haven't won many away matches in the Six Nations,

three of them, two against Italy, one here in 2002.

Well, if the Scottish pack gives this man Dan Parks the platform,

he will control the game.

But, as Andy said, they can't just close the game down now.

They have to go and try and score a few more points.

Wales will have to chase the game.

There was just a bit more zip when Richie Rees came on against England.

Lee Byrne stumbles again as he tries to scuttle out of his 22.

And Scotland have the penalty for their early efforts.

We were happy with the way our attacking game was going.

We were happy with our fitness. We had momentum.

And if we did that, then there was going to be spaces

We'd worked them hard for all the game so we knew their energy levels

had to be low, so we just had to have patience in our own game

and make sure that we recycled the ball and didn't give Scotland a sniff.

in this Six Nations, perhaps in any Six Nations.

What a game! I cannot believe it.

The ill-discipline of the Scottish defenders,

it's incredible.

I cannot believe what has happened

in the last ten minutes of this international match.

It is over.

What a game. What a victory for Wales.

It was Scotland's to claim.

They played so much of the rugby but Wales were coming at the end

and Shane Williams claims it for the Reds.

Incredible scenes.

Feel so sorry for the Scottish side.

Tremendous effort. This man in particular, Dan Parks.

But what a game. What a finish!

To have played that brand of rugby

and to have just been a part of a special game was a great feeling.

Yeah, it was a good party!

We all enjoyed it and I think there were some headlines made.

Wales and Cardiff Blues player Andy Powell drove a golf buggy

down the M4, all because he wanted some breakfast.

For the neutral, it was a wonderful game of rugby

but for a Welsh fan, it's right up there.

People, you know, throughout the week,

you know, even now, they still talk about that game

because they remember it with fondness.

It was a wonderful game of rugby, played in the right spirit.

After all that, it was not to be a vintage campaign for Wales.

The following fixture did see Shane dash over for another

last-gasp effort against France but it was too little too late.

In Ireland, Wales couldn't keep up with Keith Earls.

His two tries sealed a 27-12 win at Croke Park.

But Wales did manage a victory over Italy in Cardiff.

Two tries to James Hook helped his team to a 33-10 win

and fourth place overall in the championship table.
