Edinburgh v Ospreys Scrum V Live Pro 12

The Pro12 is starting to get interesting so get your calculators

out. The Irish big three are racing ahead and there is a mid field

battle between the Welsh and the Scots for a place in Europe at

stake. The victory of the Dragons last week over Glasgow means they

are breathing hard over the Scarlets whose win over Edinburgh has kept

them ahead of their Welsh rivals and has dealt a blow to hopes in the

Scottish capital. But Edinburgh are in the race and could resurrect

their campaign with victory tonight. Steve Tandy and his men crossed the

border with mixed emotions. And 11 try win against Treviso led to a

rise in optimism but they were brought back down to Earth by

Munster a week later. The Ospreys are sitting pretty in the play-offs

own but there the rest rivals have games in hand, the Pro12 is alive,

four Welsh regions have something play ball. But the Ospreys, the

former Crewe times champions, the team we will be looking at tonight.

-- the macro times. They are at the Meggetland because of the worm

infestation at Murrayfield. It is a city that has been a happy

hunting ground in recent years. This is confirmation of the table.

Munster and Leinster comfortably out in front.

Good evening and welcome to Scrum V and it is the Williams boys joining

me tonight, Shane and Martin. Shame, you are not moving back to Wales

permanently just yet. Back out to Japan in April. I have been offered

an extension. I will probably go for another two years coaching and a bit

of playing. Looking forward to it. So you are winding down on playing?

I have trained to do that for the last two seasons, but another game.

-- trying to. Another game tonight, Dragons facing Ulster in Ravenhill

and it is 15-0, Tommy Boase scoring. This was the first try by ruling

Pienaar. Paddy Jackson knocked the conversion over. So there is still a

conversion. Tonight's game, let's look at the Edinburgh side. A real

foreign influence under Alan Solomons. Eight of the starting 15

not Scottish. None of those are capped internationals, is that to

the detriment of Scottish rugby? Definitely, they only have two

professional teams and a small pool of players. With respect, those

players are not household names. So dicing with death when you bring

that foreign influence in. Dan Biggar and Justin Tipuric show have

both been released from Wales to start. -- have both. We have talked

about a lack of potency out wide in the Ospreys, have they addressed

that? I think so, great input with Jeff Hassler, hungry and looking for

work on the wing. They are not a conventional winger is that stay and

hope to score tries, they look for work and they play extremely well.

-- wingers. That is signing but players and to coincide with the

Welsh players. Both will have the contact. As you can see, they are

ready to kick off in Edinburgh. Welsh language commentary on your

couple -- a good tackle early on by Justin Tipuric. Grayson Hart has to

dig it out. Wicus Blaauw gets over the line. Great work by Sam Lewis.

With Justin Tipuric back in work tonight -- back in action tonight,

he has slipped to number six. We will see what effect they have in

the breakdown area, winning the first penalty. Scott, it is good to

see Scottish rugby back at its roots. It has come back to a smaller

ground than Murrayfield where former internationals from many years ago

in the 1970s and 1980s have played. They played for this club and plying

their trade in their second -- in the second division. Edinburgh Rugby

want more intimacy in this ground. They only get about 2,000, 3,000

watching. The first line-out did not go

according to plan to be Ospreys, can they get it right second time. They

have the Canadian alongside James King this evening. Normally at

number six. Hanno Dirksen will give chase, and

so well Dan Biggar. Too early for the ball arrived. -- before.

The referee says he jumped into him, but he is challenging for the ball

so that is a freedom all as far as I am concerned. What is he supposed to

do. -- free ball. Certainly a challenge by Hanno Dirksen, and

import into the team. -- and import. He plays down in South

Africa. -- an import. Grayson Hart has also come in. And to the fight

has got away with that. -- Dougie Fife.

A good bit of carrying, not the best off-load by Geoff Cross. It will be

interesting, the width of the pitch is not as big as Murrayfield and

that may affect the way Edinburgh play. Not a good pass by Geoff

Cross, it it is unacceptable, that type of play from an international

prop forward -- it is. These are the mistakes that have counted against

Edinburgh this season. Because Blau is chasing round rather

than pushing straight. -- Wicus Blaauw. Dan Biggar did not get off

the bench against France last time. When you are on international duty

and you get ten minutes of an international, it does not whet the

appetite so he will want to get a ball 18 minutes under his belt and

get Warren Gatland thinking about him as the Six Nations on hold. --

80. Just checking back as he saw the touchline approaching.

King took the ball initially in the line-out. A change of direction from

Tito Tebaldi. A bit of room on the left-hand side for some Lewis. --

Sam Lewis. The Ospreys using the web early on. -- width. That is a good

ball. Dan Biggar fires it out. Lovely play I Tito Tebaldi. --

Justin Tipuric. A beautiful ball out the back. Comfortable from the

Ospreys, the way they attack. When Russia pay men -- when Justin

Tipuric came in, the Edinburgh defence were left flat-footed.

Plenty of room out wide. Look at the angle, he comes right back. The

off-load is about angles and the running. A confidence booster for

the Ospreys. Great way by Justin Tipuric. The opening half couple of

minutes, he has proved his worth being released from the

international squad. -- play. An excellent start for the Ospreys.

Dan Biggar is comfortably over the 1,000 points mark in the league. He

puts that wide. But the Ospreys will be pleased they have a 5-point lead

after seven minutes. Let's go to the other side of the stand. To give you

a flavour of Meggetland, it it is very much a club ground, the crowd

on top of the play. Not the width. Boroughmuir RFC produced a lot of

1970s great players. And Peter Wright, a Scottish prop. And

latterly, Chris Custer. The man on the microphone on a pair -- when a

penalty is given, he puts over to the crowd the reason for the

penalty. The press room is very good. It was in the changing room of

a leisure centre and you could book a badminton court!

Risky play. The blind pass over the shoulder. It could have cost them.

This type of players very risky. Edinburgh forcing too much of the

early rugby. I would like to see them play the territory and put the

pressure on. It is a good challenge in the front row for the Edinburgh

team. There is often a delay between the

scrum going down and the scrum half putting the ball in.

There is plenty of experience in those two front rows. Dan Suter is

the exception, the Ospreys tight head. It has gone down on this

occasion. Ross Ford, Geoff Cross and Wicus

Blaauw in the Edinburgh front row. Don't they go again on that side.

Dan Suter lies face down on the floor. The way he went down, it

seems to me his studs have gone. You don't bring a scrum down like that

when the pressure comes on. It gives Edinburgh chance to get some

territory and clear their lines. -- it gives Edinburgh a chance to get

some territory. A five minute -- a five-man land -- a five man line for

Edinburgh. Looking to get the drive on. And

doing so pretty effectively. Grant Gilchrist pumping his legs as they

get to the Ospreys 22. That is an excellent drive from Edinburgh.

Grayson Hart rounds it off. But that was one for the forwards. From the

set piece, didn't Edinburgh do well? Ross Ford was dropped from the

Scotland team but has 86% success level at throwing in in the

RaboDirect Pro12. Like all good scrum halves, Grayson Hart spot the

gap and takes advantage. The simplest of inversions for Carl

Bezuidenhout. The Edinburgh forwards coach will be pleased with that one.

That all came from a forward effort from the drive. Excellent play by

Edinburgh to get them ahead in this game.

Joe Bearman. He is 35 today. Driven back by Izak van der Westhuizen.

Solid defence from Edinburgh. Dan Biggar. Not the best of passes. Sam

Lewis with no chance to control it. Good play by Dan Biggar to switch

the play. He came to the blindside. But sometimes that left-hand pass

overdoes it and it spirals downwards. Dan Suter is getting a

bit of treatment. Let's get the latest from Ravenhill. Ulster

against the Dragons. We saw Ulster opening the score and not long

afterwards Tommy Bowe Cross for his first try of two. He is making his

comeback after three months out with a groin injury. It would not be a

huge surprise if he forced his way back into the Ireland team. This was

his second try. Tommy Bowe comfortably under the posts. The

Dragons are really under pressure at Ravenhill tonight. The half-time

score is 24-0. A great win for the Dragons against

Glasgow last week but a difficult task out in Ravenhill and they are

suffering in that first half. Just a quarter of an hour up played here at

Maggetland. Edinburgh slightly ahead. Peter Fitzgibbon is of the

mind that Dan Suter is having trouble keeping up his side of the

scrum. It was actually 31-0 at half-time outing Ulster. We would be

happy with 31 points from both these teams in the first half year. It is

a stop start at times and problems in the scrum for the Ospreys with

Dan Suter under particular pressure. The referee has picked up a few

times. -- picked him up. Carl Bezuidenhout has started the last

two games at fly half. He has gone back to full back this evening but

has kept the kicking duties. The linesman thought about it and

eventually raised their flags. Not much wind around this ground and he

struck it low. Pretty still conditions. He hits it low. The

touch judges had a good luck but decided it was over. It has been a

lovely day in Edinburgh today with blue skies but it has been called.

-- cold. Scott Baldwin. Dan Biggar. Richard Fussell in the line. That

was slightly behind Ashley Beck. A bit of afters between Ashley Beck

and Harry Leonard. Ashley Beck thought the tackle was unnecessarily

-- forceful. Sometimes when the passes behind the shoulder it takes

the momentum above the move. Hanno Dirksen did well to stay in field.

Sam Beard the Edinburgh centre came in from an offside position. Good

position for the Ospreys. There is a penalty coming for the Ospreys. This

is a decent drive as well. Hanno Dirksen has taken it on. A really

good tackle I Sam Beard but they will come back for the penalty. A

word between Tito Tebaldi and Dan Biggar. Sam Beard has come from the

Bay of plenty. And he gave that tackle 20! -- plenty!

Tito Tebaldi with the pass but an excellent tackle by Sam Beard. The

scrum half delayed that pass slightly.

It will be good to see the Ospreys in this line-out. Edinburgh with a

great drive for their first try. If the Ospreys can get their body

position right, they will fancy their chances to score. Just waiting

for Justin Tipuric. A full line-out for the Ospreys. They have set it

well. Edinburgh have conceded a penalty. No way through for Dan

Biggar. Tito Tebaldi. James King with the carry. Joe Bearman. The

Edinburgh defence at quickly and Peter Fitzgibbon was playing a long

advantage from the line-out. Jonathan Spratt jogging up to have a

word with Dan Biggar. Peter Fitzgibbon wants a word first with

the Edinburgh captain. I have only seen the Edinburgh captain play a

few times but from what I can gather, he is doing very well.

Justin Tipuric could not hold onto the ball. Edinburgh can no clear

their lines. Grayson Hart pushes them to the 22. Still not a bad

position for the Ospreys. Scott Baldwin, sometimes they hooker gets

the blame at the lift was not quite there last time. Better this time.

Jonathan struck bringing in Hanno Dirksen. Richard Fussell in support

to secure possession. A nice little move using the blindside wing.

Duncan Jones in possession. Jeff Hassler at scrum half. Ashley Beck

to Jonathan Spratt. Hanno Dirksen. Not held by Harry Leonard. Ashley

Beck arrives. So there's Andres Strauss. Dan Biggar again. A change

of direction. Jonathan Spratt back to the blindside. Edinburgh

defenders they again and they have won the penalty. We saw it Sunday

against Munster. The Ospreys are playing a wide game but sometimes it

looks like going wide for the sake of going wide and not going forward.

They reversed it down the blindside and Hanno Dirksen got a bit flat.

Edinburgh will be confident on the defensive alignment because they

were split open before by good intrusion. Sport Wales is next. An

illuminating interview with Vincent Tan.

Tomorrow, it is the Scarlets against Munster.

And a round-up of the weekend 's offence on Sunday. Kingsley and

Jonathan will join Ross in the studio.

Next week 's classic game, it was a classic in Twickenham at 1988 and we

will be reliving that. That was a cracking try, and that England Wales

-- England and Wales coming up, write anticipation. -- great. That

is interesting, to say the least. Dougie Fife is looking for work.

After spending a good deal of time in Edinburgh territory and not

adding to their score, Ospreys have defending to do.

That is a great turnover from Jeff Hassler.

Tito Tebaldi. There is a gap from where the fullback came but Cornell

Du Preez is covering it. And the kicking battle continues.

Trying to put the ball behind the winger, Dan Biggar. Breaking

through, Jack Cuthbert. And Sam Beard goes over in the corner! And

the kicking game of the Ospreys is punished, Jack Cuthbert initially

with a rake, with Sam Beard for a second for Edinburgh. -- rake.

Edinburgh latched on and we have seen more of him playing at

fullback. Was this a forward pass? It was probably lateral. The big

scented did well at Edinburgh punished a Blues kick in chase, but

Jack Cuthbert broke the line and he gets the support on the other side.

-- kicking. A blow for the Ospreys, having had so much possession, but

Edinburgh get points. A clinical finish, a loose kick and a broken

tackle. And good support play from Sam Beard, getting his first try for

Edinburgh. He could not be any nearer the

touchline, and good effort. He has given the post a real shaking. A ten

point gap now, given Edinburgh a bit of a comfort zone. -- giving.

That is the fullback with the clearance kick.

Rory Grant and Mike Coman both went in. And when they spun out of the

contact situation, they both fell and gave the referee... The referee

wants them to stay on their feet. They are trying their best to get

the ball from the Ospreys, they are in an offside edition so they get

penalised. -- offside position. The Ospreys are looking to close the

gap. Hanno Dirksen is on his own and looks to get support.

Nobody is out on the left wing. Hanno Dirksen is slowly making his

way back. He is told to release it and I think

this will be a yellow if it is given. A couple of times, Edinburgh

are giving away needless penalties Ulster for now, they have ten

minutes without Geoff Cross. And the Ospreys, even though they are a man

short in the scrum, going for goal. Each time the Ospreys have come down

after that initial opening try, they have failed to convert points. They

fancy points now and Dan Biggar will fancy three points. Get territory

and put pressure on this Edinburgh scrum with a man up.

Just about on the half hour mark, Dan Biggar gets the penalty and the

Ospreys back within a converted try. Bill. You have had plenty of

territory and possession but have conceded tries, is that a worry?

Big-time. There was a schoolboy error in the way we fashioned our

defence and the kick chase was bad with two sloppy tackles. What about

the fact it is a club ground, have you had to modify things?

Not overly, we are trying to get more powerful carries because of the

compact nature. Thank you. We certainly have seen a lot of

Justin Tipuric. And Hanno Dirksen. I would echo that. The Ospreys have

had the ball and they look a bit more fluent when they have got it,

but Edinburgh have and are fitted from one can to attack off a roof

chase. -- loose chase. Edinburgh are in command and yet they have not had

a lot of territory or possession. Leonard switches wide to Sam Beard.

Just about hangs onto him. Grant Gilchrist on the far side of the

field and his partner Izak van der Westhuizen.

As Edinburgh vary the width... This time, it is the latter as far as

Andre Strauss is concerned. -- Andries Strauss. One of three

Edinburgh forward players driving up. Patient from Edinburgh. As they

go up to the 22. Harry Leonard. Gilchrist again providing the go

forward. Sam Beard and Ross Ford on the try-line. It is coming ever

closer. Very effective stuff from Edinburgh. Grayson Hart is

controlling things from scrum-half. It is the number eight, Cornell Du

Preez. Close to the try-line. Plenty of possession.

Leonard looks back inside for the inside ball. This is a really

excellent and patient build-up by Edinburgh. And it is as easy as that

for Grayson Hart to get a second, the defence just ran out of numbers.

Great hold-up by Edinburgh, nothing fancy, but ever so effective! You

have to applaud Edinburgh, the great driving. It was Izak van der

Westhuizen who set it up because he got on the front but and got front

but rugby going and each player got responsibility. For Grayson Hart to

find space down that's near side is a defensive error. They just run out

of numbers, the Ospreys. Absolutely sucked him and guilty of looking in

on that ball and Grayson Hart, how simple was that? You should always

have somebody out there and maybe Jeff Hassler was lazy to get back

into the defensive alignment. That is terribly disappointing for the

Ospreys to concede a try like that. For Edinburgh, deserved. They went

through the phases and worked forward. They kept hold of the ball

until the try came. And down to 14 men without Geoff Cross, so big

impact and good carries from Mike Coman. A good strike again from Izak

van der Westhuizen, successful this time from far out and a big gap

opening just before half-time. Edinburgh will gain a lot of

confidence from that. During their Heineken cup campaign, there were

times that when they were laying multiple ways rugby, -- playing

multiple phase rugby, they were messing up, but that was patient.

Edinburgh have only been in the Ospreys 20 to three times and have

come away with three tries. Evans has been yellow carded. Down to 14

men. As Edinburgh have proved going down

to 14 men is not necessarily a recipe for disaster. But it is for

the Dragons because they have another try! They have already got a

bonus point. Edinburgh on short of a bonus point here. -- are short. Only

once previously this season have they had the winning bonus point.

Interesting that they have old Roddy Grant off and it will be interesting

to see if the Ospreys can finish off with a solid scrum and put Edinburgh

under pressure and claw-back some of the lead Edinburgh have got.

There is a lot of talk about the worth of the imports and Willem Nel

has featured in every game this season. His contribution has been

good. I did not think he was contributing an awful lot last

season but the Edinburgh coach has brought a real understanding of the

game. There has been criticism about bringing in the South African

influence. Six South Africans and two New Zealanders started tonight

was mat game. But it is up to the players in Scottish rugby to respond

and put pressure on the overseas signings. So a lot of pressure for

places now. The Ospreys desperate for points. Edinburgh have scored

three tries. Dan Biggar obliges with his second penalty. That is three

points of the deficit. Tito Tebaldi. A good kick. The

breeze may be slightly favouring the Ospreys in this first half. Carl

Bezuidenhout has kicked a long ball and it was returned with interest by

the Ospreys. A bit of indecision but it bounced

kindly in the end for Richard Fussell. A good challenge by Richard

Fussell. The ball safely out of play. Let's go down to Phil Steele.

Keep your eye on Dan Biggar. After he kicked that long-range penalty

goal he came back holding his right knee. -- he does not look that

happy. That will be a worry for the Ospreys. I think that came from the

tackle that Sam Beard made about ten minutes ago when they told to Bali

gave Dan Biggar a short pass. -- when Tito Tebaldi. A bad price from

Tito Tebaldi putting the Ospreys midfield under pressure. -- a bad

pass. That was loose by Tito Tebaldi. The referee deciding there

is no time for the scrum at the end of the first half. That is a lot of

talking to be done in the Ospreys changing room. They will be

disappointed with that first-half performance. Edinburgh have a

comfortable half-time lead. We are looking at some of the tries

in the other game out in Ulster. Tommy Bowe scoring twice on his

return after a three-month injury lay-off. The score is 38-3 to Ulster

against the Dragons. It is a really tough night for the Dragons in

Ravenhill. We will have a look at the story of that first-half but

first of all, your old side have been under pressure. They started

quite bright. A great try for Jeff Hassler in the corner. But since

then it has been all Edinburgh. The Ospreys have been passive in the

tackle and not getting on with the gain line. Edinburgh's defence has

been very direct and aggressive. It has been quite a lacklustre

performance, very lateral attack and have not created much. Let's remind

ourselves of what happened in that first half. The Ospreys started

rightly. Justin Tipuric showing some good handling skills for Jeff

Hassler to cross. Edinburgh hit back strongly. Grayson Hart and Sam Beard

scoring tries for Edinburgh. The Ospreys trying to get back into it

and Geoff Cross saw a yellow card and Edinburgh played the last ten

minutes of that half with ten men. But it didn't matter because Grayson

Hart then scored his second try. As you can see, the Ospreys have most

of the territory and possession but crucially, Edinburgh scored three

tries. Pretty clinical for Edinburgh. Let's talk about that

Jeff Hassler try first. Sam Lewis got a fantastic turnover in the

first minute. The Ospreys are trying to put width on the ball. Poor

defence from Edinburgh. They have got numbers. Look at just -- Jack

Cuthbert Dom he is looking at Richard Fussell. It is a fantastic

angle from Justin Tipuric and a good off-load. It was the perfect start.

Edinburgh will be disappointed with their defence. Not long after that

Grayson Hart scored a try for Edinburgh and it illustrates the

negative of having a lightweight back five. That is why this can

happen. When you think of the Ospreys you think of their dominance

upfront. This is the downside of having more or less five back row

players in your back five. It is poor defence. Fair play to Grayson

Hart. Because he has seen the gap. That all comes down to the initial

driving line-out and poor defence from the Ospreys. That gave

Edinburgh a bit of impetus and it wasn't long after that that Sam

Beard scored. The kick chase seemed to be well organised and players

were chasing up in a line but it was just poor tackling. He steps and

hand up -- hands of Joe Bearman. It is just sloppy tackling. The three

tries have been from mistakes by the Ospreys. This should have been

covered early on. A good finish in the end but he should not have

broken that defensive line in the first place. Grayson Hart scored

again when the Ospreys had a one-man advantage. It was just too easy.

They went through a lot of phases. The Ospreys tackling has been

passive. Edinburgh have been getting over the gain line all game. In the

end it was just a walkover. The damage was already done and he

crosses the line. It is a cracking weekend so far and it is a great

period of time for rugby lovers because the Six Nations are

dominating the schedules. Sport Wales is up next. If you pick

a team of experts in all the different areas, they can all work

together. We are not going to buy a player for ?40 million. The Scarlets

welcomed Munster to West Wales tomorrow night. Can they claim the

could never play for anybody else and I know the passion the Welsh

are getting longer and the touch rugby season is approaching and this

week the head of rugby at the WRU announced a new touch initiative.

Alex Cuthbert and George North both got involved. It is hoped it will

inspire more people to have a go. If you want to get involved, you can

will get back to tonight 's game and the Ospreys have a bit to do. They

have some period is on the bench. Ryan Jones is there. I would be

surprised if Ryan Jones does not come on soon. It is a very light

back row and they have learnt their lesson from that driving maul. They

need to calm down a bit. They seem to be going wide when they don't

have to. They are not being direct enough. Ryan Jones will bring some

leadership. He was in try scoring form against Treviso couple of weeks

ago. But his dive has been quite heavily criticised. What do you make

of this? Is it technically died if your foot does not come off the

floor! This is how it should be done. I nearly put my back at! --

out! The Ospreys are under pressure. It was this time last year

when they did drop critical points in that race for the play-offs. If

they want to get into the play-offs this year they will have to pick

their game up in the second half. They are missing a lot of key

international players. It is a concern of Dan Biggar is carrying a

knee injury. They have had plenty of possession. I was surprised that

they were going to the corner early on instead of building a lead. They

need to do more with their possession and beam of clinical. --

be more clinical. What will Steve Tandy be doing now? He will be calm

in the dressing room. Steve Tandy is not much of a shelter. He is very

technical in what he wants out of the players. They will know it is

not their best performance. They started well but Edinburgh have done

well. It is just about patients. They need to go through the phases

rather than try and score out wide every time they get it. They need to

get over the gain line. The Edinburgh contact area is strong at

the moment. It is about ball retention. I have to ask you about

the game a week Sunday, England against Wales. It feels like a cup

final because whichever side loses will be out of the running for the

Champion ship. Last weekend was the perfect weekend in terms of result

-- results. We beat France and England beat Ireland narrowly. It

has set it up. We know how dangerous this group of players is once they

get some confidence. I expect us to go there and win. We have some key

players backlight Jonathan Davies and hopefully Alun Wyn Jones.

England are missing a few key players. Psychologically speaking,

England have beaten New Zealand and Australia and France but they have

not even scored a try against Wales in the Stuart Lancaster. Wales have

to be confident. The performance against France showed the spirit

they have in the camp. They will be full of confidence. The important

thing is that Warren Gatland and Wales know they can play better. I

think they have another gear whereas England are top of -- are on top of

their game at the moment. I agree with Martin. I think Wales can go to

Twickenham and win. The teams are back on the pitch. Let's rejoin our

commentary team. Let's see if the Ospreys can get

some inspiration from the Welsh performances and turn things around

because they need to in the second half if they want to stay in the top

four and keep themselves in the play-off places.

Glasgow, who are fifth at the moment, Orrin Munster tomorrow. --

are in Leinster. The Ospreys are starting the second half with

ball. This was the loose pass and it went immediately to Jack Cuthbert

who had snow defence. A couple of mistakes from the Ospreys in the

lead up to that. -- no defence. That is the difference between the teams,

mistakes coming in from the Ospreys. The Ospreys, even though they go one

way and the other and they stretched the Edinburgh defence, they cannot

life. A little bit more of that, variety in the attack. Edinburgh are

not committing anybody to the break down, keeping men out wide ready for

the next attack, the Ospreys are out wide. Dan Suter has had the ball

ripped away from him. This is Hanno Dirksen, not known for

his kicking game but a strong runner.

This is a change of tack Tick. A high kick towards Jack Cuthbert --

tactic. Well played. Stolen by Justin Tipuric. That was an

opportunity perhaps, allowing Justin Tipuric to turnover the ball and see

what might have happened. Dan Biggar is eager to get points on the board.

A good open side. The one thing he did, the minute you get isolated on

those balls, the turnover is inevitable. Jack Cuthbert did very

well but the way Justin Tipuric latches onto the ball, he got his

body position right, he went over the ball because Ross Ford got

isolated. The Ospreys are finding it difficult

to penetrate this Edinburgh defence. They are relying on the boot of Dan

Biggar. He is on his way. Just adjusting the

ball. He has a minute to take his kick.

That is an excellent kick from Dan Biggar. And three much-needed points

for the Ospreys as they tried to claw their way back into this game.

Dan Suter is breathing a heavy sigh of relief because the Ospreys got

turned over in the 22 Webber was an opportunity for Jack Cuthbert to dig

deep and it was about him becoming the isolated player. Edinburgh 's

isolated player was Ross board. It keeps the Ospreys within touching

distance of this Edinburgh performance.

Hobart. And Jeff Hassler is a handful when he gets going. Dan

Biggar. That is a let off for the Ospreys. Not happy. As you can

imagine. Tito Tebaldi has players outside

him. A bit more of the aerial tennis

coming into the game in the second half. There have been a couple of

passes from Tito Tebaldi in front of Dan Biggar like that, does not quite

find his man. Looking at the kicking, a lot of the players now,

we see them kick end on end. As a result, there is more accuracy. But

I would like to see a spiral kick, especially on a kick that Jack

Cuthbert had because he gave the ball to the Ospreys but Richard

Fussell at HMM disc kick in. With a spiral kick, you get it right into

the 22. -- Richard Fussell at a great kick in. -- put. A good

platform to work from four Grayson Hart.

The defences up quickly. Ashley Beck did not look. Ashley Beck had a free

pass. Tito Tebaldi spots at the gap. He is appended by his opposite

among them. One just before half-time and to

just after half-time for Dan Biggar and he has brought the Ospreys back

Sam Davies has slotted back to fullback. The two men up front are

also on. Plenty of carriers for the Ospreys in the shape of Ryan Jones

of panic in this game. The Ospreys will now try and put pressure on

For once they are forced to kick from the line-out. A first touch for

Good pressure from Dan Biggar. Dan Biggar did well initially with

the chip and chase and managed to get Grayson Hart on the floor but

when Ashley Beck made the secondary tackled up in the scrum half on the

deck, he gave away the penalty. Griff Rhys has joined Phil Steele.

Ryan Jones is on. What are you looking for from him? A bit of

physicality. A bit of maturity. Someone just to give us a clear

focus. And Sam Davies as well? He has been playing well recently. We

have played pretty well in this quarter of the game. And you feel

you are still in it? Yes. A good head by Dan Biggar. -- a good

hit. Edinburgh were jumping up and down when that was turned over and

the referee agrees it was done legally. Another final warning.

Individuals are coming in and playing the ball on the ground. Both

back rows have been guilty of playing the man on the deck as well.

They have been a lot of penalties in the scheme. -- in this game. It is

the first penalty the Ospreys have given away in a kickable position

quite a while. No wonder Mike Coman wants to go for goal.

The crowd behind the posts immediately knew that one was safely

over. The Ospreys have the score twice again as things stand.

An excellent strike. Slightly against the run of play. Edinburgh

will be delighted to extend their lead.

That was straight out of place of the Ospreys will have a line-out

back in the 22. Dan Biggar is in a hurry to get on with it. Let's talk

Biggar and Justin Tipuric, to stay on for the whole game? I do. I think

Dan Biggar and Justin Tipuric need gametime. They will be desperate to

stay on and lead the fight back for the Ospreys.

it. Who got the first touch? Jeff Hassler's right hand might have

beaten Cuthbert's left. You don't actually need downward pressure.

Iain Ramage is the TMO. What busy make of this? -- what does he make

of this? He is going to slow this one down. I

don't think Jack Cuthbert got any piece of it. It is whether it is a

try or a knock-on. The try is given. Jeff Hassler did get the

touchdown. He has brought the Ospreys right back into it. The

crowd stunned into silence but Iain Ramage had plenty of looks at it.

Jack Cuthbert did not get any of the ball and Jeff Hassler's right-hand

was enough. That was an important try for Jeff Hassler going into the

final quarter of the game. Dan Biggar's kick is outside the

right-hand upright. There is now a 3-point gap. It is closer than it

has been since 15 minutes into the game. A flat line defence. Jeff

Hassler's angles of running have impressed throughout this

performance. He had to force himself between Jack Cuthbert and Grant

Gilchrist. Tremendous determination from the winger.

A decent looking Edinburgh scrum but the Ospreys get the ball away. Sam

Dirksen. That was better use of the blindside. They had players coming

from a deeper angle and they had momentum. Previously, they have been

too flat when they have executed that. Failing to stay on their feet.

They have given away the penalty. Aisea Natoga coming onto the field,

replacing Hanno Dirksen. Another powerful carrier of the ball. The

Ospreys are trying to take this game from Edinburgh. Wicus Blaauw. Sean

Kennedy, the replacement scrum half, with the kick. Sam Davies looks to

have overrun it but he readjusted. Dan Biggar kicks it downfield and

that is a huge gap there. Natoga made a mess of that. Good

yardage game for Edinburgh. Bringing in a replacement winger. Probably

got the biggest cheer from the crowd. A let-off because Edinburgh

's kicking has not been dynamic in this game. A lot of kicks have been

overcooked allowing Dan Biggar to return with a lot of interest, but

they get away with with some territory for the mistake on

replacement Natoga. A good steady scrum for Sean Kennedy

to work from. All the way to Jack Cuthbert out. He is ready and

waiting for Kennedy. Lovely delivery from Ollie Atkins to Gilchrist. --

from Mike Coman. Every time they have been in the 22 of the Ospreys,

they have come away with a try, not on that occasion. Justin Tipuric

check got under the rib cage and got -- and held him up long enough.

Edinburgh, the way they passed the ball, that allows the Ospreys

defence to be reset and that was excellent defence from the Ospreys.

Less than quarter of an hour remaining. A 3-point Edinburgh lead.

At one stage, they had to 22 points to make up. -- 22.

They could does very well. The scrum does look under pressure. -- Baker.

The scrum-half is a Jack of all trades, comfortable in the centre

and superb as a flanker. And can also play in scrum-half. Dan Biggar

sits back again and he finds that relieving touch goal and suddenly

Edinburgh are attacking from the ten metre line. Edinburgh is strong in

the scrum but can they dominate in the 22 metre line? Edinburgh are

playing faces of possession that we saw in the first half but they did

not have continuity in the second half. -- raises. The play is

disrupted. Illegal interference. There is a chance to open up a gap

again. The Williams boys before were saying they are confident about

Welsh victory in top -- in Twickenham, how do you see it? It

took magic and brilliance from France in Paris to deny England

victory. They holding towards home advantage. England were seething at

the loss last year and is losing out on the championship. Wales have the

ability to outplay England but that was a very good performance by

England and they will take a lot from that. I am going to be going

out, I am delighted. I have a feeling England might edge it. But

if Wales play with that confidence we saw in the game against France

last Friday night, rather than the game against Ireland in Dublin, that

will be the difference between the teams, whether Wales can produce

that sort of performance again. A long-range effort safely over. And

as we approach the final ten minutes, the Ospreys have to get a

converted try to win it again. A great kick by Edinburgh 's fullback.

They are just finishing off. In the Six Nations, a four teams are right

in with a couple of weekends to go. Every time the Six Nations is on,

you cannot keep your eye off it. Jack Cuthbert takes pole advantage

and slips into the arms of Tito Tebaldi. -- full. Kennedy, to

Leonard. He slowed it down halfway. He has to be careful not to concede

a penalty. A good off-load back, lost either prop and Ryan Jones

spins it round to Ashley Beck who does well to step away from

Dominguez. Scott Baldwin. Driven to ground I Ross Ford. Tito Tebaldi, to

Dan Biggar. He is creating the angle for Sam Lewis. A knock and advantage

is being played by Edinburgh at the moment. -- knock-on. Egg great

looking at Natoga to see if he will come through to offside desertion. A

catalogue of errors. -- offside position. Jonathan Spratt was

looking more alert and it was a free ball for him. The Ospreys were out

over the ten yard line. Edinburgh is still under pressure and alongside

others is the Edinburgh winger, I wonder how good he is. On a Gaelic

speaking channel. A bit of Dutch thrown in, maybe!

Sam Davies waits. He gets it away well. A dangerous run out. Dan

Biggar with a kick in goal. Duncan Jones. 35 years young. Dan Biggar,

Sam Davies. Ashley Beck. Jonathan Spratt, they are running out of room

on the right-hand side. Dan Baker got into the 22 before

being brought down by Gilchrist. The Ospreys are getting ever

nearer, a converted try would edge them ahead.

Good build-up by the Ospreys. Can they finish it off now? Just like

Edinburgh did in the first half. No, they lost the ball, and the number

eight Cornell Du Preez puts boot to ball. The ball is still alive. And

Sam Davies is looking for the safety of the touchline and just about

makes it, very relieved. Dougie Fife did well, with Cornell Du Preez. Sam

Davies managed to nudge the Edinburgh winger out of the way. It

could have been a try either end, good pressure. And the mistake

coming in at a crucial time for the Ospreys, a turnover ball allowing

Edinburgh to kick the ball downfield. Edinburgh have a great

opportunity to see out the game in this period of territory against the

Ospreys. Ospreys will have to look for magic, will it be from a big

ball like Dan Baker? From Natoga on the wing or will it be the magic and

experience of Dan Biggar to get them out of this? Edinburgh have laid

well this evening at Meggetland and maybe just edging it.

But to take by Gilchrist. -- a good take. Kennedy. A deep pass. Now the

Ospreys have to get a bit of defending in again.

There is a penalty coming the way of Edinburgh and that could be

telling. A gap will open up if they go for it. They want the try, a

bonus point. Andries Strauss. He slips through far too easily! The

last man Mike Coman cannot hang on to the inside ball, the try is

denied and they will have to come back to the penalty. The Ospreys

need to look at the defence. Andries Strauss found a great gap. This was

the knock-on. An offside decision on Jonathan Spratt. He promised a

yellow card at the start of the half and he delivers it against the

Ospreys centre. Ashley Beck is leaving, so the Ospreys will have to

finish with 14 men. And they need a score from somewhere if they are not

going to come away from Meggetland with nothing. Mike Coman, the

sensible option, win the game first and Edinburgh have an opportunity to

perhaps get that bonus point in the victory. This kick is vitally

important for the South African fullback playing his trade here for

Edinburgh. -- plying. He has already kicked 13 points for

the team. Converted two of the three tries and

landed three penalties. This is to take a bonus point away from the

Ospreys. Gets it just inside that left-hand side, just as enough. Now

the Ospreys have to score from somewhere to get anything from this

game. He just snatched it. He has extended that Edinburgh read to the

two scores Ospreys now need. Can Edinburgh finish with a flourish and

get that bonus point? Tom Habberfield is coming on instead of

Tito Tebaldi. Duncan Jones, the Ospreys looking to get within strike

range. Trying to get a losing bonus point.

Ashley Beck, off the field. Just one man. Just one man outside

Dan Biggar, so he took the hit. Baldwin looking to give the Ospreys

a toehold in the Edinburgh 22. Jeff Hassler appearing everywhere he

can. Less than two minutes remaining for the Ospreys now. Just cannot get

asked that 22 metre line at the moment. Justin Tipuric is looking to

free his hands in the tackle. But they have got the penalty and they

have got the chance to reclaim a losing bonus point. That is Izak van

der Westhuizen, who has been awarded the man of the match this evening.

Another yellow card. It was Tomas Leonardi, the Argentine who has come

off the bench. Dan Biggar will take that three points just to get a

bonus point. They might have one last shot to score a converted try.

Another Dan Biggar penalty. It gives the Ospreys something as they go

into the final minute. They reclaim a losing bonus point.

It also gives them the outside chance of sneaking a victory with a

converted try. Then at ago waiting to come on. He may not have a

chance. Edinburgh kick the ball dead. That is crazy from Edinburgh.

That gives the Ospreys scrum on the half way line. The last attack of

the game and it gives the Ospreys one last chance. Then at ago will

come on for one play. -- Ben Atiga. It is all about what happens here. A

good scrum allows the backs to attack. Alex Allan on the loose head

for Edinburgh. He is celebrating his 22nd birthday today. This will be

the final play of the game. The Ospreys look to have salvaged a

point. Can they possibly sneak an extra three?

Jonathan Spratt a lone figure on the right-hand side of the Ospreys

attack. They are having trouble getting this scrum set. I don't

think the referee would issue to cards for the last scrum of the

game, would he? Ulster have cemented their position

in third with a thumping victory over the Dragons. The Ospreys

clinging on to fourth at the moment and Glasgow to play tomorrow night.

A loose pass. Sam Davies to Isaiah in a toga. -- Isaiah in a toga.

The more is called. That is enough. The Edinburgh skipper prevents a

late Ospreys come back and gets Edinburgh back to winning ways after

three defeats in a row. Edinburgh come away with a victory. They did

not get a bonus point. The Ospreys did the losing. It is a hard-fought

win for Edinburgh which keeps them in the hunt for European places.

They have become the Ospreys 31-25. And a deserved victory. Edinburgh

played very well in the first 40 minutes. My man of the matches Mike

Coman the captain of Edinburgh. He played so well. This is a good

Ospreys team. They are right up there in this league. Edinburgh at a

work in progress. They will take a great deal of delight from that. It

is a hard-fought victory for Edinburgh and a bonus point for the

Ospreys. We can hear now the thoughts of Dan Biggar who is with

Phil Steele. How frustrating was that? We were not clinical enough.

We conceded a couple of soft tries and we were always chasing the game.

It is hugely disappointing to come away with only one point. You did

well to salvage that one point. We are not happy with one point. We

have to look at ourselves in the mirror. We gave away some soft

tries. How is your knee? It is fine. Nothing too serious. How good was it

to get a full 80 minutes on the belt? It was great to play but just

disappointing we did not pull through in the end. We need to show

a bit more skill. How are you looking forward to being part of

that squad for the Wales against an in game? If I can get myself in the

squad and push for selection, that would be great. It would be

something special to be a part of. Justin Tipuric is here. How are you

feeling ahead of next week? It was a really tough game. A bit

disappointed with the result. They are a physical side. They play the

South African way and that is how they won tonight. He made a few too

many errors. Silly errors. We did not execute things in their 22. Did

you think you are going to sneak it at one stage? Definitely. We never

gave up. It was one of our worst first halves all year. But we were

still in it. Edinburgh were very physical. You had five back rowers

in your back five. Did you feel you were lacking a bit there? No. We

tried to help -- hold them up. You have to get them to the floor early

and get over the ball. And was it nice to play at the club ground? A

little bit difference. -- bit different. It makes things a bit

real. How are you looking forward to token? -- Twickenham? It doesn't

matter whether the game is for the wooden spoon or the Six Nations, it

is always a tasty one. Hopefully we will have a good week in training.

Do you think the English will remember last year's game? Last year

's forgotten. It is a new chapter. We have to do the basics well. They

are favourites. We have to show everybody what we can do.

It was a great start for the Ospreys away from home. Jeff Hassler

touching down after just six minutes. After that Edinburgh

enjoyed a purple patch. Three tries in half an hour. Grayson Hart

crossing for the first one. Jack Cuthbert with a break before putting

Sam Beard away. Another one from Grayson Hart on the blindside. The

Ospreys started well in the second half with two penalties. Then it was

Edinburgh's turn to fight back. Jeff Hassler then scored his second try

for the Ospreys. But ultimately, it was Edinburgh who struck back and

one thanks to this last-minute penalty. Dan Biggar got a penalty to

get a losing bonus point. The Ospreys did enjoy the greater share

of territory and possession that they did not make it count. Shane

Williams, you would probably take on a wave bonus point but the Ospreys

are a bit more ambitious than that. It was disappointing. The Ospreys

wanted to win that game. But they were the second-best team out

tonight. Far too many errors. Too much complacency and defence. They

gave themselves too much work to do in the second half. They started

very well in the second half. But they lost the ball interiors and

gave themselves too much to do. They chipped away at the lead and then

Jeff Hassler got his second try. It looked at that stage as if perhaps

they would get back into it. They came back into it well and got some

momentum. We were calling for Ryan Jones and Sam Davies to come on. He

is a great foot olive. He checks the defence with a dummy and it is a

beautiful kick. That is sheer determination to score the try. We

will freeze this in a minute. He does get downward pressure. It is a

brilliant try. We thought they were coming back into it. But ill

discipline and a lack of composure cost them. They were not clinical

enough according to Dan Biggar. The Ospreys got into the Edinburgh 22

several times but made mistakes. You can't afford to do that. It was

always going to be a tough game away from home. When you go into the 22

you have to get the points. They were far too many errors. It has

been a miserable night of all four regional rugby fans because the

Dragons were put to the sword against Ulster in Ravenhill. The

final score was 38-8. This was the first try for Ulster. Then Tommy

Bowe back after a groin injury showed he had lost none of it

sharpness. Two tries for him. Great news for Ireland who face Italy in a

week's time. Ross Ford will did cross late on for the Dragons to

give them a consolation try. But that is a pretty heavy defeat out in

Ravenhill. Let's have a look and see how those results leave the table.

Let's look more closely at that Scarlets against Ulster game --

Munster game. Jonathan Davies has been released to play in that game.

It is fantastic to see Jonathan Davies back. He tried to make a

comeback a few weeks ago but did not feel quite right. I fully expect him

to come back in and start against England next week. He is that

important to the team. The English backline is inexperienced and you

are looking for people Jonathan Davies, Jamie Roberts and George

North to intimidate them. Hopefully he'll come through that game and he

will play at Twickenham. Do you think you will start, Shane

Williams? -- do you think he will start? He was one of the players of

the Lions tour. Providing he comes through unscathed for the Scarlets,

I think he will slot straight acting. He has been the form 13 for

Wales for the last two seasons. Wales will have to get George North

involved earlier than in previous games if he is back on the wing.

With Jonathan Davies back and George North running angles, it is

exciting. Steve Tandy is with Phil Steele back in Edinburgh. ?1 gained

or four lost? Definitely four lost. It was a disappointing first half.

It is not a happy dressing room. It is disappointing. We fought back

hard but you cannot concede sloppy tries away from home. But is the

season still on track? Yes. We are disappointed tonight. We have a bit

of a break now and we will have to regroup and win at least five or six

games to get into the top four. What have you learned from last season?

We have to be more clinical in what we do. Too many soft tries were

conceded in the first half. That is not good enough. We have to come

back. We have the Blues next up. That is at the Liberty Stadium. Yes,

then we go to Glasgow. We will have to start picking up some big wins

quickly. Some straight talking from Steve

Tandy. Very briefly, disappointing for the Ospreys tonight. They are

still in the mix. They are probably the only Welsh team will have a

chance of getting in the top four. They have to regroup for the big
