What the difference a year makes. 12 months ago, Wales were buzzing

after beating Ireland in Dublin on the world to have glorious Grand

Slam. Fast forward and the national side are in disarray with a defeat

in a row. Now it is Ireland, victorious against Wales last week,

who are on a Grand Slam trail of their own. A year is a long time in

club rugby as well. In mid-February, the coaches were replaced by former

players Steve Tandy he guided them to do league title. Now it is

Ulster who lead the league, 11 points clear, and the Ospreys are

part of the chasing pack. Tonight the action comes from Ravenhill

where the Ospreys take on Ulster. It is the leaders against the

champions. Ulster have lost just once all season and have all but

secured their play-off spot. But the Ospreys are under threat. The

other three Welsh Nations are all playing at home tonight. Three of

the four are facing Irish opposition. Good evening and

welcome to Scrum V. Lynne Jones, you know what it takes to win this

title. These teams will be looking to consolidate those play-off spot.

Very much so. Five teams are playing for three spots. It is

during the Six Nations period that the low-profile games come up and

you need to be calling. Been continually. It is going to test

the effectiveness of the academy system for both sides. Strength in

depth during beat Six Nations periods, but also foreign signings

can plug the gap. Yes, there is a reason why Ulster are 11 points

clear, it is because of the strength of their squad. You need

that with all the internationals and all the injuries. A couple of

years ago, that is why we can get a glimpse of the youngsters. We can

look at the Ospreys side. 16 players are missing through

thigh injury just before kick-off. Alun-Wyn Jones has returned ahead

of schedule from injury. Ravenhill away, you are very reliant on your

individual ability. And he has consistency. As you can see, crate

skills, but kicking out of the hand has to be consistent tonight.

Will they be frustrated? I think they will look at what is not going

to plan and you have to look at the breakdown and the ruck. They are

lying on the wrong side. It is stopping the players from cleaning

out and getting beyond the ball and playing a fast game. We saw half

the number of rucks and it was more threatening because Ulster are

getting beyond the ball and clearing out. And then they are

having a crack and that is the big difference. I think they will be

knocking on the door of the referee and making sure that the players

are a bit more proactive and getting back up to the ball.

speaking about the breakdown, the Ospreys are getting very quick ball

and recycling well but Ulster are committing few players and they are

running into way brick wall. They have been very good in their 22.

One man tackling and the rest over and the rest giving day space and

the Ospreys have been struggling. They have really got anything from

it and it is just good play from Ulster. The Ospreys have looked

threatening and Tom Isaacs at the end but is about converting.

game. But it is a bit damp. The important thing is cleaning up at

ruck and getting a quicker ball and getting beyond the ball. We talk at

the top about both squads being depleted by the Six Nations. One

man missing from Ulster is an influential figure and his absence

means that Ryan Bevington is means that Ryan Bevington is

getting a fairly easy ride. I think he is a fantastic player. This is a

set piece but he has nailed Tom Court and this is another example.

We can see a great example of him carrying well and he is athletic

and quick minded. He is a very good rugby player and it is just a

to the national team and the sooner he can do it, the better it is for

is not critical. They have one of the best centres in the world

playing on the wing. It is typical of French rugby, they get their

selection wrong. It is good for Wales. They will be limited and

direct in the way that they approached the game, which may suit

Wales. Tom, it seemed mystifying that he is kept on the wing when he

is one of the best line because in world rugby. You want your best

players with ball in hand as much as player. Wales have got to try

and stop the to pick ball carriers. It is to make similar teams. Both

low on confidence, both full stuck weekend. In any big factor is that

Wales are playing away but they have to be positive. They have

nothing to lose. They're going out to France and the need to have the

same sort of mentality and game- plan as when they played against

Australia A in the summer. Doing the unexpected. It is a game that

is difficult to call. I hope Wales do not get too carried away. There

is still a game to be one and they will be a tight game. We do not

want be playing from all parts of the field, we want be getting into

the right area in order to launch attacks. I appreciate that we have

nothing to lose, as such, but I think Dan Biggar can control the

game effectively. I do not think Wales will be short of speakers on

the field tomorrow. The last time that Wales won in Paris was 2005.

You were in that team and you know what it takes to win there. Poor

George VI's be to the current squad? Get Shane Williams back on

the field! That was a game of two hearts. We were under the cosh in

the first of and then just came round. You just need a little bit

of spark, something for the players to get on the back off and get
