The Ospreys play their part in a Dublin thriller. The Scarlets seek

:00:22.:00:32.

revenge against Treviso. The Blues usher in a new era at the Arms Park

:00:32.:00:37.

and the Dragons travel north looking for two wins from two. How will the

:00:37.:00:44.

new laws affect the game? We hear the thoughts of Brian Moore. I can

:00:44.:00:48.

stay square and carry on pushing and go off the ball. Will this year's

:00:48.:00:54.

Heineken Cup be the last? We discuss the future of the world's premier

:00:54.:00:59.

club rugby tournament. And we spend an emotional day here as they play

:00:59.:01:04.

their first home game since their clubhouse was destroyed by fire.

:01:04.:01:11.

Good afternoon. Welcome to Scrum V Sunday. We have another jam-packed

:01:11.:01:16.

show. Martin and Jonathan are here. They'll offer their thoughts and

:01:16.:01:20.

opinions on all the stories, but we'll kick off with the action and

:01:20.:01:35.

the thriller in Dublin. Evans returned to the side replacing Ryan

:01:35.:01:44.

Jones. Mike McCarthy was making his first start for Leinster and they

:01:44.:01:49.

were once again without their six Lions.

:01:49.:02:43.

Away goes Kearney on the outside. Simple for Leinster again. Winning

:02:43.:02:58.

the turnover and moving it wide and the backs did

:02:58.:03:48.

High from the fly-half. No problem for the Ospreys and they get back

:03:48.:03:53.

just before the interval. I think Joe beer beerman -- Joe

:03:53.:04:18.

Biermann has got there. Lovely hands. Beerman barrelling over.

:04:18.:04:24.

Just. The centre gets over and the Ospreys

:04:24.:04:54.

take the lead. Shane Jennings there. Not happy.

:04:54.:05:26.

Cronin gets the yellow. They have been warned.

:05:26.:06:15.

Clear Gopperth. No problem for the ten.

:06:15.:06:59.

If you had told me this would weeks ago we would have taken it. We are

:06:59.:07:06.

not where we want to be in performance, but we got in and we

:07:06.:07:12.

are getting back home. We are excited by that. Dramatic and

:07:12.:07:16.

exciting finish and Jonathan, what is it about the Ospreys in Dublin,

:07:16.:07:21.

it's becoming a real bogey site for Leinster? I don't know. They must

:07:22.:07:25.

have a good night after if they get a result. I don't know. I feel the

:07:25.:07:31.

defence is solid. They got a good pack of forwards, which makes it

:07:31.:07:36.

tough for the opposition. Of course, Dan Biggar kicks everything. The

:07:36.:07:41.

first half Leinster dominated and it could have been way ahead, but took

:07:41.:07:48.

chances. There were a few disappointments going wide, but

:07:48.:07:51.

again they clawed their way back and hang on in there. They take their

:07:51.:07:58.

chances and scored two lovely tries with Biermann, but it's a solid

:07:58.:08:03.

defence. Classic encounter, Martin. Real advert for the League and

:08:03.:08:07.

satisfy-sawed a bit, but ended in a draw which I guess was fair. What

:08:07.:08:14.

was the Ospreys' secret there? We saR Leinster last week and they were

:08:14.:08:19.

the best attacking side in Europe, but defensive organisation in the

:08:19.:08:22.

Ospreys was outstanding. We have a couple of examples. First and

:08:22.:08:26.

foremost you have to make the one-off tackles. Stops the momentum

:08:27.:08:32.

there. They don't overcommit the Ospreys to the breakdown, so

:08:32.:08:39.

Gopperth is looking at a white line. It is easy to head up. Leinster

:08:39.:08:45.

found it difficult to get momentum. It was a very well-organised plan

:08:45.:08:49.

and they stuck to it for the whole game and a few lapses earlier on,

:08:49.:08:53.

but when they were broken, a couple of examples here. This sums them up.

:08:53.:08:57.

Desperation in defence once the first line is broken. You see Tom

:08:57.:09:01.

Smith, under huge pressure. Massive turning point. He's in and steals

:09:01.:09:05.

the ball. Look at the numbers working hard to get back. That's

:09:05.:09:13.

what you have to do when you go to Dublin. This man is on fire. 19

:09:13.:09:17.

points yesterday and kept them in touch throughout the game and keeps

:09:17.:09:22.

you in the score, so he has a kicking game in defence and that's

:09:22.:09:27.

90%. Dan Biggar. You were singing his praises last week. He has shown

:09:27.:09:33.

he's got the Tom prement. As I said, last yeeBG's Six Nations has made

:09:33.:09:40.

him -- temprement. As I said last year's Six Nations has made him. He

:09:40.:09:45.

had a run there. Then there were the changes and last year I thought he

:09:45.:09:50.

was one of the key players and I think that he's knocking everything

:09:50.:09:54.

over and the defence, they work hard. They get up quickly and

:09:54.:09:57.

organise themselves quickly. The interesting thing for me this year,

:09:57.:10:02.

the turnovers, especially Leinster, they've gone wide very, very quickly

:10:03.:10:08.

because they try to catch Gopperth, but also over the weekend a lot of

:10:08.:10:14.

sides were looking up and working the short side. Leinster scored a

:10:14.:10:18.

try on the short side and a couple of people have created that, which

:10:18.:10:24.

is great. We'll switch to talk about the Heineken Cup, because it's been

:10:24.:10:29.

the topic this week and Leinster did suggest they wanted it it to stay

:10:29.:10:39.

on. If it goes and is replaced by an Anglo-French tournament that we are

:10:39.:10:43.

not part of, what are the consequences for Welsh rugby?

:10:43.:10:48.

Massive. Financially is one. We are way behind already the regions and

:10:48.:10:52.

that's very, very difficult for the regions. A lot of players will then

:10:52.:10:57.

go and wonder where they will be. I don't think none of us really know

:10:57.:11:03.

what the situation is. With Martyn Thomas or the RFU they are saying

:11:03.:11:07.

the English clubs have signed up for two years and they've said they're

:11:07.:11:11.

going. The French said they are leaving and then Leinster might go

:11:11.:11:16.

and someone else. I just think it has a great format. Sitting around

:11:16.:11:22.

the table and I understand English views because they've been saying

:11:22.:11:26.

this for two years. 15 months have gone buy and nothing being resolved?

:11:26.:11:30.

You want to change things. I feel that the thing is, one,

:11:30.:11:34.

qualification. Yeah.I agree with the top six. I do. That's the

:11:34.:11:40.

general consensus. It shouldn't be automatic qualification. I know

:11:40.:11:44.

there might not be a Scottish team in there or Cardiff, but I think

:11:44.:11:49.

there's a lot of stones thrown at the rabbit and it would lift it. If

:11:49.:11:52.

you are not good enough to play in the top six, if there's no Welsh

:11:52.:11:57.

sides in the top six and that could happen, then the Welsh will have to

:11:57.:12:01.

boost the regions and get players in there and also what the French and

:12:01.:12:05.

gliR clubs are worried about is the fact that especially in Leinster and

:12:05.:12:10.

Munster, a week before the Ian Ken cup game they are smashing the hell

:12:10.:12:19.

out of each other and the others are in fresh and the am Lynn is a strong

:12:19.:12:23.

competition, so if you are going to the am Lynn and you win it that's a

:12:23.:12:27.

great achievement. Martin's point about maybe you wouldn't have the

:12:27.:12:31.

Scottish or the Italians if you are forced into the top six, the Amlin

:12:31.:12:42.

is good enough. enough. Martin's point about maybe you wouldn't have

:12:42.:12:45.

the Scottish or the Italians if you are forced into the top six, the

:12:45.:12:47.

Amlin is good enough. HITE You look at it the last couple of years. It's

:12:47.:12:51.

great. The top three sides or four drop down and it will lift that.

:12:51.:12:56.

It's a very strong competition. The worry is the English and the French

:12:56.:13:09.

want more money. It's the lawyers who will make the money. We have to

:13:09.:13:13.

leave it there, but we'll chat about this a lot more in Scrum V Extra

:13:14.:13:19.

Time. It's on straight after we are off air, so if you have any views

:13:19.:13:21.

get in touch with us. Ever wish there was more time, well

:13:21.:13:38.

now we'll be spending a bit more time to discuss all the stories from

:13:38.:13:46.

the weekend on Scrum V Extra time. Time. Only available on-line at BBC.

:13:46.:13:54.

The programme will be on just after the show finishes. If you have a

:13:54.:14:00.

question for the panel or there's something you want the team to

:14:00.:14:01.

discuss e-mail the show. Last weekend the Scarlets were

:14:01.:14:19.

thrashed in their opening encounter against Leinster. This week, they

:14:19.:14:22.

were trying to get their season back on track against Treviso.

:14:22.:14:32.

Simon Easterby made one change to the side that lost last week. Jordan

:14:32.:14:40.

Williams replacing the injured Christian Philips. Jonathan Davies

:14:40.:14:44.

was named on the bench. The Scarlets were out for revenge after suffering

:14:44.:14:50.

a 41-17 thrashing at the hands of Treviso last season.

:14:50.:15:41.

Davies has got a second from nothing.

:15:41.:16:00.

Davies reacts to the ball in the face. There is a little undercurrent

:16:00.:16:09.

there. There is more there now. You've thrown the ball at an

:16:09.:16:14.

opponent and it's a yellow card and you've overpaned him. Both of you

:16:14.:16:15.

are going to the bin. That's a collective one for the

:16:15.:17:01.

team. Schindler -- Shingler adds another

:17:01.:17:16.

three. Treviso denied by the TMO right at

:17:16.:17:49.

the death. Managed the territory better and we have won the territory

:17:49.:17:53.

battle comfortably, which obviously leads to applying pressure to a side

:17:53.:17:56.

that have to score tries to get back in the game, so that worked out

:17:56.:18:01.

well. Perhaps, obviously, a pleasing set piece performance in the scrum

:18:01.:18:05.

with elements from both front rows which was important for us. Danny

:18:05.:18:09.

Wilson a lot happier than last weekend and you previewed this on

:18:10.:18:13.

Friday night and you said the Scarlets had a right to be worried

:18:13.:18:16.

after last season, but they came out and bossed that game. How

:18:16.:18:21.

significant a aroundaround is that considering what happened last week?

:18:21.:18:26.

I think it's early days to say it's a must-win game. They go to Rodney

:18:26.:18:36.

Parade on Friday. They bossed it. They have way too much talent to

:18:36.:18:38.

have the results they've been having. Gareth Davies was

:18:38.:18:42.

outstanding. That try he scored on the first try, this one here, I

:18:42.:18:46.

don't know if there are many scrum halves or in the UK that will score

:18:46.:18:51.

this. Two years ago he was seen as breaking true. He had a little last

:18:51.:18:57.

-- through. He had a little lull last season, but he's coming on.

:18:57.:19:05.

Everything seems to happen. He was in the squad for my last game with

:19:05.:19:10.

Wales and he was the full package. And the yellow card, there's a dog

:19:10.:19:15.

in there, which also helps. We talked about Lloyd Williams playing

:19:15.:19:18.

for the Blues and how he is, the pretender to the throne for the

:19:18.:19:22.

number nine, but for that, is Gareth Davies narrowing the gap? I think he

:19:22.:19:28.

has. Lloyd is in number two position now and he's started well. That

:19:28.:19:34.

performance has got to get you noticed. He is sharp and scores

:19:34.:19:40.

tries from close and zan. He has a dog about him. He's a nuisance. For

:19:40.:19:46.

me, it was the scrummage. Looking very, very good for Scarlets and we

:19:46.:19:51.

all know footballers are all over the park and if they get the set

:19:51.:19:55.

piece right they're capable of beating anyone, so they didn't lose

:19:55.:19:59.

their focus or concentration against Treviso and kept the defensive

:19:59.:20:03.

pattern, although they cut them a little. They need to work on that.

:20:03.:20:08.

Good for them. For the second week, the Scarlets were looking powerful

:20:08.:20:12.

in the scrum. That leads us on to the next item, which is all about

:20:12.:20:17.

the scrummage. Last season we spent more time talking about this and it

:20:17.:20:20.

was usually for the wrong reasons. The laws this season have been

:20:20.:20:23.

tweaked slightly for safety reasons. We have been looking at whether or

:20:23.:20:28.

not it will make a difference. The scrum - for the rugby outsider, it's

:20:28.:20:35.

the thing that defines the game. A primal battle between two packs of

:20:35.:20:39.

forwards, but what was once a compelling part of the game has

:20:39.:20:47.

slowly become a blight. We are in a present mess. Action needed to be

:20:47.:20:52.

taken and it has been. That's worked. First scrum, free kick. Who

:20:52.:20:56.

better to gauge the success or otherwise of a new global trial than

:20:56.:21:02.

former England hugger Brian Moore? It's not just me who is whinging

:21:02.:21:07.

about this. The scrum is an obsession for him. Safety was the

:21:07.:21:15.

main driver for the changes. Last season, this is what we heard and

:21:15.:21:23.

saw. And nearly 60% of the time during the Six Nations it led to

:21:23.:21:27.

this. This season, it has changed to this. Two weeks in and the Kpro 12

:21:27.:21:38.

has only seen 18% of scrums collapse. Will the simple changes be

:21:38.:21:43.

enough to solve the problems? It will go as far as it is possible,

:21:43.:21:47.

but provided that not only is the new engagement sequence, which is

:21:47.:21:50.

all that has changed. No, sir else. Everything else is the same and

:21:51.:21:53.

always been there, but it's important that those laws are

:21:53.:21:58.

refereed properly. In theory it should make it easier for the

:21:58.:22:04.

referees. That's just a joke, isn't it? It will be a bit more

:22:04.:22:08.

straightforward to referee. The fact that they've got the bind before you

:22:08.:22:13.

engage and you've got to be at least now four heads -- forehead to

:22:13.:22:17.

forehead, so 30% less impact on the hit. Common sense is going to tell

:22:17.:22:21.

you there will be more chance of that scrum staying up. As well as

:22:21.:22:25.

the new sequence, a number of laws which have been flouted for too long

:22:25.:22:30.

will be enforced once more. Crooked feeds and early shoves have always

:22:30.:22:33.

been illegal but tolerated for years. Not any more. The only change

:22:33.:22:39.

is zero tolerance on it. Early engage, not taking the hit. Crooked

:22:39.:22:44.

feet in the scrum. Delaying the feet in the scrum. If it's a free kick,

:22:44.:22:50.

if you do it a second time, no matter what the time difference,

:22:50.:22:53.

there will be a penalty. Third time, it will be a penalty and warning and

:22:53.:22:57.

you do it a fourth time and it will be a penalty and a yellow card. As a

:22:57.:23:04.

consequence of the laws, huggers will be forced to rediscover a

:23:04.:23:10.

long-forgotten art, the art of hooking. It's more of an art now.

:23:10.:23:16.

Rather than the old days and ploughing over. We will have to go

:23:16.:23:20.

back to striking too. You have never done in your professional career?

:23:20.:23:24.

Early days. I've been joking. There are those who think the hooker

:23:24.:23:28.

balancing on one leg could be inviting injury. In the years that

:23:28.:23:31.

have passed since hooking was required, packs have got much bigger

:23:31.:23:35.

and much more powerful. They are saying it's really unsafe, because

:23:35.:23:42.

you've got seven men where he has to lift his head up and it's called

:23:42.:23:46.

hooking. What they're describing is a situation where if I have all my

:23:46.:23:50.

weight on one foot and all the pressure is coming from a drive it's

:23:50.:23:54.

difficult, because I'm resisting. However, you are not supposed to be

:23:54.:23:58.

applying pressure and driving and shoving, before the ball leaves the

:23:58.:24:03.

hands. With early shoves outlawed and the hookers are skilful, safety,

:24:03.:24:07.

according to Brian, shouldn't be an issue. If you are good enough,

:24:07.:24:11.

before that shove comes on legally you get it away. I'll show you how

:24:11.:24:23.

quick it is. If I go there - that is is. I don't know. You have to time

:24:23.:24:27.

it. It's less than a second. All clear then, so the critical question

:24:27.:24:32.

is will these changes cure what has become the biggest ill in rugby?

:24:32.:24:37.

This is the last chance for us to get this scrum right. It's a hugely

:24:37.:24:42.

important part of the game and so it should be as well. We've got to the

:24:42.:24:46.

stage where people there thinking it's a badge of honour, if I can't

:24:46.:24:51.

ram down and push as hard as I can I'm not a man and you weren't

:24:51.:24:55.

because you never had to do this. That's nonsense. It comes out

:24:55.:24:59.

quickly. Is that not desirable, or do you want it to not come in, reset

:24:59.:25:04.

twice, maybe come inened get driven back and collapse, penalty. Is that

:25:04.:25:11.

better than in, out and go and play? If you think that you want your head

:25:12.:25:18.

testing. A very opinionated man. What you didn't see there, he

:25:18.:25:23.

challenged me to a one-on-one scrum, which was terrifying. He's been

:25:23.:25:27.

banging on about that for years and years. He gets excited. He loves it.

:25:28.:25:38.

He talks about it. He absolutely loves it. Two weeks into the new

:25:38.:25:44.

season, we saw the statistic, 18% of scrums collapsing so far in the

:25:44.:25:47.

competition. Has it made a difference? Every prop is shouting

:25:47.:25:56.

at the TV now, so I don't want to talk it to death. Something had to

:25:56.:25:59.

be done. I think the biggest thing from when I was a player was the hit

:25:59.:26:03.

causing the major problem, even in training. As soon as you come to

:26:03.:26:07.

live sessions as soon as it came on it collapsed. We've got to give it

:26:08.:26:13.

time. It's hard to pass comment. The biggest issue is instead of

:26:14.:26:17.

collapsed scrums, it's around feeding. You want a straight put in

:26:17.:26:25.

and strike, but there are so many grey areas and - If you're not an

:26:25.:26:32.

authority then you are. We used to go channel one and two and hooking

:26:32.:26:36.

was a big part. We were not the strongest scrum. We threw the ball

:26:36.:26:40.

in and the hooker striked it and came back. We got it out quickly.

:26:40.:26:45.

And when I played for Wales too. I understand what - we knew what ball

:26:45.:26:52.

we wanted to attack with and strengths and weaknesses. I think

:26:52.:26:55.

Brian is right. Hooking is hooking the ball and things have changed,

:26:55.:26:59.

but it's an entertainment sport we're in, is the scrummage has

:26:59.:27:04.

become a joke and now it's gone from collapsing and the biggest joke is

:27:04.:27:11.

the crooked feet. Well, I think if the referees have got to be strong

:27:11.:27:14.

on this and everyone else has to support them and if they say, right,

:27:14.:27:19.

not straight, do it next time, you're a yellow card, if it's the

:27:19.:27:26.

case he's off. And the next one, then another yellow card. It

:27:26.:27:29.

happened in League when we were trying to outlaw head-high shots.

:27:29.:27:33.

Everyone was swinging arms and you copped one on the face, the chin and

:27:33.:27:38.

nose. Then yellow cards and reds. Some weeks we were playing with two

:27:38.:27:42.

or three men sent off each side and the scores were 40-40. Slowly,

:27:42.:27:48.

because the directive had come from the League we got into the high

:27:48.:27:53.

tackles. The odd ones slipped in, but we have to support the referees

:27:53.:27:57.

and they've got to be vigilant in penalising people. That's the key.

:27:57.:28:01.

Let's hope they will be. Moving on to the Premiership. It kicked off

:28:01.:28:03.

this weekend. Entertaining here. Scott Williams

:28:03.:28:15.

crossed for the visitors' second try, but two tries from the

:28:15.:28:19.

defending champions in the last minute denied a victory. Neath were

:28:19.:28:28.

leaders at half time by Llanelli came back. Josh Lewis crossed line.

:28:28.:28:40.

There was this try from Arran Jones. They won. Quins looked sharper and

:28:40.:28:46.

were rewarded with six tries. Jason Harris there. The Premiership season

:28:46.:28:56.

kicks off this weekend. We are here at St Helens for the Swansea match

:28:56.:29:01.

and to catch up with a former Wales fullback to hear about his new job.

:29:01.:29:06.

Just over two years ago, after failing to recovery fully from a

:29:06.:29:14.

double fracture, Morgan decided to retire. Was it difficult for you

:29:14.:29:18.

mentally to close the door on your playing career and open the new door

:29:18.:29:22.

into coaching? It wasn't something I was thinking about. I was coaching

:29:23.:29:28.

the local team and then Cross Kus got in touch and I was chuffed. I

:29:28.:29:33.

was keen to get on board and it happens over a few days. What are

:29:33.:29:38.

your expectations? I think the same again. Top three. We've got a few

:29:38.:29:46.

quality additions to the squad. Depth and strength and it's a long

:29:46.:29:49.

season. Everyone will play, so the squad will be fine. I hear you'll

:29:49.:29:58.

have to hold someone for the final? I've got to leave after half time

:29:58.:30:04.

for a family wedding, so I'm going to the church. They arrived at St

:30:04.:30:09.

Helens following two convincing wins in the British and Irish Cup, but it

:30:09.:30:15.

was a scrappy affair and a close battle of the goal kickers. The

:30:16.:30:28.

visitors never looked like losing, even though they missed out on

:30:28.:30:32.

several chances, despite being one man down. Half-time score was 6. 9

:30:32.:30:42.

and mark an is leaving due to the family wedding. Eventually a try

:30:42.:30:46.

came with the second half. Dan Hodges crossing over in the 69th

:30:46.:30:54.

minute, making it 19-6. But the try of the game came from the all-whites

:30:54.:30:58.

winger Richard Williams with just four minutes left. Not even two

:30:58.:31:03.

yellow cards and a minute could help Swansea's late comeback. I said to

:31:03.:31:20.

the guys, talking about it after a win and after a loss. You have a new

:31:20.:31:26.

recruit in morgue an. How is he fitting in? Breath of fresh air. He

:31:26.:31:32.

hasn't lost yet, so he's a lucky mascot at the moment. He brings his

:31:32.:31:35.

knowledge from the professional game and early days. In challenging

:31:35.:31:42.

conditions and after pressure, the home side's second try came when

:31:42.:31:47.

Warren powered over. A late surge recorded in Nick White's try. A

:31:47.:31:57.

round-up of Friday night's games starting with Edinburgh and the

:31:57.:32:11.

Dragons. The DaGions travelled north looking to make it two from two.

:32:11.:32:19.

Reece Thomas inherited the skipper's armband and Richie Rees lined up

:32:19.:32:23.

against their old side. Nicky Walker was making his debut for Edinburgh.

:32:23.:32:59.

That's good. DaGions take a lead early on. -- Dragons take a lead

:32:59.:33:17.

early on. Edinburgh are now into the lead. Pressure from Edinburgh in the

:33:17.:33:25.

second half. Sean Kennedy and Leonard. The fullback there. The

:33:26.:33:32.

number eight. Can he step the path? It had to come.

:33:32.:33:55.

That scrum of Edinburgh's in the ascendency for the whole of the

:33:55.:34:26.

match. This is to win it. That's good enough. In the last minute the

:34:26.:34:31.

players worked hard and put a lot of grit and showed commitment and

:34:31.:34:35.

belief. We just are not there yet. We are not sure how to close the

:34:35.:34:39.

games out. It's a big positive in terms of how disappointed we are.

:34:39.:34:45.

It's a fine line coming away with a draw and defeat. We deserved a draw.

:34:45.:34:53.

It was the first competitive match for the Blues on their new

:34:53.:35:02.

artificial pitch and for Alex Cuthbert. Connacts with the --

:35:02.:35:09.

Connact were the opponents and they were hoping to spoil the party.

:35:09.:35:31.

That's the way to use the ball. Simply and effectively.

:35:31.:35:44.

Let's have a TMO. That is a high tackle, but he was going down.

:35:44.:36:22.

Just the penalty. He was itching. Itching to get the yellow card out.

:36:22.:36:31.

The Blues have certainly picked their game up in the second half.

:36:31.:36:49.

To a man they all deserve Man of the Match. Massive effort. As a ten and

:36:49.:36:56.

when Gareth came on it was our job to keep him going forward. The other

:36:56.:37:01.

weekend's results: Good result for the Blues in

:37:01.:37:28.

terrible conditions. On the subject, plenty of speculation in the papers

:37:28.:37:32.

about Sam Warburton leaving Wales. One paper says he's on his way. He

:37:32.:37:36.

does want to stay there and hopefully that's the case. If that

:37:36.:37:40.

is the case, Jonathan, how much have they pushed him? I thought you would

:37:40.:37:49.

ask him. It's simple. I think those two lads will want to stay in Wales.

:37:49.:37:55.

Lee half penny and Sam. Ones a Cardiff boy and one is another good

:37:55.:38:01.

boy and if the package is right they would prefer to stay in Wales, but

:38:01.:38:05.

when the money is so good and if there is a threat of no Heineken

:38:05.:38:09.

Cup, well, they want to play at the best level and I think it's a job to

:38:09.:38:17.

keep them with the regions, but in keeping the Cup going and getting

:38:17.:38:21.

the quality competition, week in week out in Wales. We know the Welsh

:38:21.:38:28.

regions can't complete with the Welsh clubs, so should the WABU come

:38:28.:38:36.

in? I think we had this discussion last year. You have to pay top

:38:36.:38:41.

dollar for a player you see the least, which doesn't seem fair. It's

:38:41.:38:44.

out of their budgets and something has to be done. We have John Davies

:38:44.:38:48.

at Scarlets coming out and Lee and Sam. It's great for them. I think

:38:48.:38:54.

the boys will want to stay, but it's down to the individual. Some offers

:38:54.:38:58.

and the figures you are hearing are too good to refuse. But hopefully

:38:58.:39:05.

between the regions and the union they can come up with something. If

:39:05.:39:16.

you look at Adam, Jones Evans, Jonathan Davies and maybe Biggar,

:39:16.:39:20.

looking at the core guys and saying we are trying to supplement these

:39:20.:39:25.

ones and then maybe 1st January if you go abroad you can't play for

:39:25.:39:28.

Wales. Interesting. We'll have to leave it there. We have Extra Time

:39:28.:39:33.

to delve into this and we'll talk about the Dragons and previewing

:39:33.:39:36.

their game against the Scarlets next Friday night. We'll catch up with

:39:36.:39:38.

Rick and he went to the old parish. Some technical difficulties. We'll

:39:38.:40:02.

bring you that feature in just a few moments, but we can maybe talk about

:40:02.:40:07.

the Dragons and Scarlets. It's the feature on Friday. In Thames of the

:40:07.:40:12.

shape they're going into this -- terms of the shape they're going

:40:12.:40:16.

into it, will the Rodney Parade factor come into play? It normally

:40:16.:40:21.

does. They had a great win against ultraster. Welsh derbies are

:40:21.:40:25.

difficult to call because the boys know each other and the referee will

:40:25.:40:30.

have a big influence. Seeing the last clip, the scrum is going to be

:40:30.:40:36.

massive and at the moment I think the Scarlets' scrum is on top, so

:40:36.:40:40.

that could be the deciding factor on Friday. Why is that? You look at the

:40:40.:40:45.

Scarlets and very few people come in and the personnel hasn't changed,

:40:45.:40:48.

but all of a sudden they seemed to have fashioned this

:40:49.:40:56.

formidable-looking scrum? The new laws maybe suit them. They've played

:40:56.:41:04.

two good scrummaging sides and they've done well. I think it's

:41:04.:41:13.

interesting because if that is wrong, I don't know we haven't seen

:41:13.:41:17.

the Dragons first hand, but they've improved a hell of a lotoned it will

:41:17.:41:22.

be interesting to see how much they've improved and it will be a

:41:22.:41:26.

test, because a lot of the faithfuls will expect a good result, and

:41:26.:41:33.

performance. I do feel that the result against ultraster they'll

:41:33.:41:37.

kick the lather of it and they'll have the back row working and if

:41:37.:41:41.

they can kick five penalties they'll be happy. It will be a tactical game

:41:41.:41:46.

and give the Scarlets the ball and leave them attacking and see what

:41:46.:41:52.

happens. It's a first local regional derby and it will be interesting. At

:41:52.:41:57.

the moment, I do feel, because of the scrum, it will -- they'll be

:41:57.:42:04.

favourites. There was a lot of positivity with the appointment of

:42:04.:42:09.

Kingsley Jones and new blood there. Toby there also. Given that, how

:42:09.:42:12.

much of a statement would it be if they turned over the Scarlets in the

:42:12.:42:16.

first Welsh derby in front of the home fans? Still early days. Third

:42:16.:42:22.

game in, but I think if you said you will have five points off the first

:42:22.:42:26.

two they would have taken that. Ulster home is difficult. I know

:42:26.:42:31.

they were disappointed over the line, but it's still a valuable

:42:31.:42:35.

point. They need a back-up against the Scarlets and I think you'll find

:42:35.:42:41.

there are a lot things to come. It will be close and tense and I just

:42:41.:42:47.

agree with Jonathan that perhaps the Scarlets' fire power at the front

:42:47.:42:53.

will edge it. What about cutting-edge behind? George North

:42:53.:42:57.

and Christian Philips who started the finish is injured and they

:42:57.:43:02.

haven't got the New Zealander signing until November. We saw a

:43:02.:43:07.

glimpse of Jordan Williams and Gareth at fullback and Liam

:43:07.:43:11.

Williams. Have they got more out wide? It's very difficult to replace

:43:11.:43:17.

George North. He is a world-class athlete and he's a finisher and ball

:43:17.:43:23.

carrier and he breaks the leaBs. I don't -- lanes. I don't think

:43:23.:43:28.

they've got that, but they will take it to the line. Thank you.

:43:28.:43:33.

Apologies, as I said, for that feature, but you can see it on

:43:33.:43:37.

Extra, which is coming up straight after this programme. Go on to the

:43:37.:43:42.

website, log on and we'll be here for another half an hour to talk

:43:42.:43:45.

about all the rugby stories. From now, from the studio, it's goodbye

:43:45.:43:47.

for now.
