This year's six Nations saw a try -fest with 61 tries. England scored

:00:30.:00:42.

14 tries and won the triple Crown. Ireland run in the 16 tries for the

:00:43.:00:45.

tournament and were crowned champions. Wales finished in rampant

:00:46.:00:58.

form. Jamie Roberts. A wonderful try for Wales. But does the result pose

:00:59.:01:01.

more questions than answers? Welcome to visit special programme.

:01:02.:01:12.

Ireland are the six Nations champions but Wales end their

:01:13.:01:15.

campaign in fine style with a wreck and bass record win over Scotland.

:01:16.:01:21.

Sadly, no trophy this year. Ladies and gentlemen, Jonathan Davies, Phil

:01:22.:01:27.

Vickery, Shane Williams, and Martyn Williams.

:01:28.:01:43.

So, good evening to you, boys. Shane, I don't know what you are

:01:44.:01:52.

wearing. What is it? It is a headband. I have just done a mile on

:01:53.:02:00.

a bike for sport relief. It was good. I cannot remember who won. We

:02:01.:02:08.

find out later. We had a camera for you a couple of weeks ago and

:02:09.:02:19.

managed... Supporting that important charity. Very good. Also, I would

:02:20.:02:27.

like to give another very special welcome to a man on his Twitter

:02:28.:02:34.

profile is an England rugby legend, add to that one of Scrum V's

:02:35.:02:45.

favourite sons. Welcome back Mr Phil Vickery. Great to see you. Let's

:02:46.:02:52.

talk about the tournament in general. How would you sum it up?

:02:53.:02:57.

I've enjoyed it. It's been a great competition. There has been

:02:58.:03:02.

disappointment, highs and lows. Some of the rugby, at times, has

:03:03.:03:08.

struggled. Actually, throughout the five or six weeks, I think it's been

:03:09.:03:13.

fantastic. To go into the final day yesterday, knowing that three teams

:03:14.:03:17.

can realistically still win, I thought was brilliant. What a finale

:03:18.:03:21.

last night. Where Ireland deserving winners? Ireland or England. They

:03:22.:03:27.

have been consistent. England played exceptionally well against Italy.

:03:28.:03:32.

They put a good score on. Ireland, especially going out there, because

:03:33.:03:36.

for some reason, France started to play yesterday. It was a very, very

:03:37.:03:40.

tough day. They thoroughly deserved it. Let me ask about Wales. They

:03:41.:03:47.

went for it. Nothing to lose in many respects for both sides. In the end,

:03:48.:03:53.

it was a job well done. It's always difficult when a side goes down for

:03:54.:03:59.

ten minutes... It was a foregone conclusion then. It was a job well

:04:00.:04:07.

done. Disappointment to finish third, which is not as bad as people

:04:08.:04:11.

think. It was the type of performance and the type of wind

:04:12.:04:14.

that the fans wanted and the boys themselves. They seemed to play

:04:15.:04:20.

exceptionally well at home. There was one incident which did not help

:04:21.:04:25.

matters for Scotland. A clean cut performance by Wales. Some great

:04:26.:04:32.

tries. They were playing the plan a rugby and that was exactly what they

:04:33.:04:36.

needed to do. There were some great tries. We will talk more about Wales

:04:37.:04:40.

later in the programme but first, the highlights of Wales against

:04:41.:04:43.

Scotland. Scotland have the early possession.

:04:44.:05:03.

The referee is playing advantage to Scotland and the penalty is there

:05:04.:05:08.

now. Offside. That is a bright start by Scotland.

:05:09.:05:20.

It is good and there are points on board Scotland. - there are points

:05:21.:05:33.

on the board for Scotland. Wales come looking for the first try. It

:05:34.:05:39.

goes wide, over the head of George North. Wales will have the penalty.

:05:40.:05:45.

Dan Biggar looks to poke over the kick which she does and draws late

:05:46.:05:56.

dash Wales level. -- draws Wales level. It will be a try.

:05:57.:06:10.

A good few turnovers in this match. Stuart Hogg kicks away the

:06:11.:06:15.

advantage. Dan Biggar hazard. Oh! It is definitely a yellow. Let's see

:06:16.:06:38.

if it... Off for ten minutes. That is a red card offence. And it is a

:06:39.:06:47.

red card. Yellow turns to read. The referee has looked at the big screen

:06:48.:06:50.

and says, no, that's the wrong decision. Stuart Hogg, Scotland's

:06:51.:06:55.

greatest talent, is sent off. Lee Williams is coming forward. He

:06:56.:07:08.

takes it very well. And now, a gallop from Williams. He slips. He

:07:09.:07:13.

gets it away wonderfully to Mike Phillips. Infield, to George North.

:07:14.:07:18.

What a try for Wales! Well kept in play. He is offside.

:07:19.:07:37.

The get it back to John Davies. Will it be a try? Jonathan Davies is

:07:38.:07:45.

there. They have got to go back, he was offside. Yeah, he is offside. No

:07:46.:07:51.

try. A couple of minutes remaining in

:07:52.:08:02.

this first half and Rhodri Jones taking his chance today. Jamie

:08:03.:08:09.

Roberts. And Jonathan Davies may be in. He gets it infield to Jamie

:08:10.:08:14.

Roberts and Wales now have another try.

:08:15.:08:20.

And a penalty to Wales. The worst start possible for Scotland, bad.

:08:21.:08:38.

So, Wales will be running everything in the second half as well. Tired

:08:39.:08:42.

bodies in the Scottish defence. There is Jonathan Davies. Outside,

:08:43.:08:48.

it is George North for the try. It comes so early in the second half.

:08:49.:08:52.

Scotland are in all sorts of trouble.

:08:53.:09:02.

It goes straight to Welsh hands, the Welsh skipper. That's the one thing

:09:03.:09:11.

you cannot do. A horror show for Scotland at the moment. It is

:09:12.:09:20.

Williams. A lovely off-load. Support from Jonathan Davies. He gets it to

:09:21.:09:30.

Jamie Roberts. A try again, the length of the millennium Stadium

:09:31.:09:31.

pitch. Phillips gets it away. Wales showing

:09:32.:09:36.

no mercy here. He tries to get it away. Cuthbert

:09:37.:09:50.

slips it wide and there is Alun Wyn Jones.

:09:51.:09:57.

It rains tries at the millennium Stadium. Wales are racing past 40

:09:58.:10:11.

points. -- Millennium Stadium. Denton has it and he is looking for

:10:12.:10:12.

support. Scotland still have it. Still, advantage to Scotland. He has

:10:13.:10:42.

kicked it away! Over the head of Debbie Fife.

:10:43.:10:53.

Here come Wales again. A great kick. Williams is going to get there. He

:10:54.:11:05.

slides in and schools. A wonderful try for Wales excavation

:11:06.:11:11.

After that defeat to England at Twickenham, just what Wales needed,

:11:12.:11:19.

a big win. The Scottish side were not as great

:11:20.:11:36.

as England's last week. You still have to play well the boys did OK

:11:37.:11:48.

today. I like to think we would have put 30 points on them. It was a good

:11:49.:11:57.

performance. That was the longest day. We are disappointed. They

:11:58.:12:01.

played pretty good. They punished us. When you lose a player, you are

:12:02.:12:06.

in a bit of trouble. I thought the structure of our defence was very

:12:07.:12:08.

good today. The attitude of the players, you know, often when you

:12:09.:12:13.

are winning by a large margin, defence can become an afterthought

:12:14.:12:19.

but it wasn't. Replays against 14 men for most of the game so yeah, we

:12:20.:12:24.

scored some nice tries, but it was against 14 men and we would expect

:12:25.:12:29.

that from ourselves. We've done reasonably well in this condition.

:12:30.:12:31.

There were massive reasonably well in this condition.

:12:32.:12:36.

on ourselves and I know from the media, you put a lot of expectations

:12:37.:12:39.

and pressure on us as well. If you look at the last three years, we've

:12:40.:12:44.

won 12 out of 15 games and that's not a bad record in this

:12:45.:12:49.

competition. What we learned from this tournament is that we are going

:12:50.:13:01.

to have to change and deal with other teams kicking strategies. All

:13:02.:13:05.

teams have kicked a lot more than we have done. We need to try to negate

:13:06.:13:13.

our strengths. As coaches, we are going to have to learn to assess

:13:14.:13:16.

that and to work and change going forward.

:13:17.:13:22.

A very measured Warren Gatland there. A great win but let's face

:13:23.:13:26.

it, against 14 men. You are right but you've still got to beat what is

:13:27.:13:29.

in front of you. Some interesting stats from the game.

:13:30.:13:41.

Scotland were poor, let's face it. They turned over nearly half of the

:13:42.:13:47.

ball they had but Wales were great defensively with eight steals the

:13:48.:13:52.

ball. Four of the tries came from Scotland possession. Wales were on

:13:53.:13:57.

the money in defence, particularly diving on the ball. Not just over

:13:58.:14:02.

the ball, Jonathan Davies sneaked in through the outside channels. Luke

:14:03.:14:08.

Charteris exposed how poor Scotland were at the tackle contest. Wales

:14:09.:14:12.

wanted to up the tempo from that penalty. They took the outside

:14:13.:14:13.

channel and you cannot allow a guy penalty. They took the outside

:14:14.:14:19.

like George North that much space. The game was over at the red card

:14:20.:14:24.

but Scotland had to endure 58 minutes with 14 men. Scott Johnson

:14:25.:14:29.

refused to put an extra back on. Their line-out was poor. Both

:14:30.:14:34.

centres here foolishly go for Jonathan Davies and you cannot allow

:14:35.:14:39.

Leon Williams and George capital North - George North that amount of

:14:40.:14:52.

space. Space was exploited time and time again. George North had a field

:14:53.:14:59.

day out there. Look at this example. Four of the remaining Scotland packs

:15:00.:15:03.

are now in this rug. It meant space on the opposite corner for other

:15:04.:15:08.

players to get their tries. Some key stats:

:15:09.:15:20.

there were subtle changes in game plan as well. Jamie Roberts was off

:15:21.:15:27.

the gain line but here, we've been asking for this. A little pass from

:15:28.:15:31.

Gethin Jenkins to Ken Owens across the gain line. George North came

:15:32.:15:38.

into the 13 channel later phase. Mike Phillips, we've not seen a lot

:15:39.:15:42.

of this from him, challenging this fringe of the Scottish defence and

:15:43.:15:46.

sucking in defenders by ringing forward and against the grain. All

:15:47.:15:50.

of this was orchestrated by a confident performance from Dan

:15:51.:15:55.

Biggar at ten. Space comes in at the end for a grace - great first

:15:56.:15:59.

trifolium Williams. Without confident display, shame, I will ask

:16:00.:16:03.

you, do you think you should have had more game time

:16:04.:16:10.

Dan Biggar was one of the form players in the six Nations,

:16:11.:16:17.

certainly last year. He was inspirational in the George North

:16:18.:16:21.

try. You must feel a bit hard done by. Yesterday, I thought he was

:16:22.:16:29.

superb. He got up, kicked a penalty and after that took a high ball. He

:16:30.:16:34.

was very brave. I thought he was very vocal was doubly worked the

:16:35.:16:38.

backed - backs well. He works hard himself. He must feel hard done by.

:16:39.:16:47.

Perhaps we might see him play more in the ten shirt. Was it the wrong

:16:48.:16:55.

call to start with Rhys Priestland? It all depends what you want. He

:16:56.:17:00.

plays closer to the line and with his header but with the control that

:17:01.:17:06.

Dan Biggar brings you, I think he has to start and then if things are

:17:07.:17:11.

going well and you are on the front foot, his kicking game is better,

:17:12.:17:15.

when it gets looser, Yukon either bring on Rhys Priestland or James

:17:16.:17:20.

Hook but I think now he is the established one. He is the one who

:17:21.:17:24.

controls the game and gives them shape. I would start with Dan

:17:25.:17:29.

Biggar. If Rhys Priestland was playing yesterday, Wales would not

:17:30.:17:34.

have won by 50? I'm not saying that, Stuart Hogg

:17:35.:17:41.

lost the plot. Wales played a little bit wider. Also, the tries were

:17:42.:17:49.

brilliant but the throats were. Liam Williams outstanding. Liam Williams

:17:50.:17:58.

offered more yesterday because of his angles of running. He was man of

:17:59.:18:07.

the match. A lot better performance. But we have South Africa coming up.

:18:08.:18:11.

Scotland were hopeless yesterday. That is the thing.

:18:12.:18:17.

To try and compare yesterday 's game in comparison to the rest of the Six

:18:18.:18:22.

Nations for Wales is very difficult because Scotland were very poor

:18:23.:18:28.

yesterday and with the sending off, some fundamentals where defensively,

:18:29.:18:36.

just all over the place. Seeing that team develop and who do you pick, I

:18:37.:18:40.

think it is difficult. If we were selecting a Welsh team, comparing it

:18:41.:18:49.

with the previous games, I think you need to... We made a lot of mistakes

:18:50.:18:57.

against it Ireland and England. At international level, you cannot do

:18:58.:19:01.

that. You could have died yesterday. Against the better sides, Wales

:19:02.:19:12.

cannot do that. You have to tinker a little bit. I will come back to you

:19:13.:19:19.

in a minute. What you make of the presentation?

:19:20.:19:24.

He has basically shown that the accuracy that was missing at

:19:25.:19:31.

Twickenham was there yesterday. But they were playing a lot

:19:32.:19:33.

Twickenham was there yesterday. But It was easier to be accurate. That

:19:34.:19:36.

is worrying for me as a Welsh It was easier to be accurate. That

:19:41.:19:46.

do not think we have gone backwards, we have stayed still. We have been

:19:47.:19:54.

overtaken. It is a very rigid game plan. The criticism the players come

:19:55.:20:00.

under is they do not seem to adjust on the pitch when things are going

:20:01.:20:05.

wrong. They are their own worst enemies. Give a signing dish view of

:20:06.:20:13.

what you have seen against Ireland, Italy and France. -- English. Hear

:20:14.:20:20.

all the time is about the Warren Gatland game plan, what is plan B?

:20:21.:20:28.

Being a fan of the Six Nations, it is a great com petition, every team

:20:29.:20:37.

has a trade-off, if you are drifting scummy and get caught on the inside,

:20:38.:20:47.

the one thing with Wales is when it works and has been proven

:20:48.:20:50.

year-on-year in the Six Nations, it is a winning game plan. The problem

:20:51.:20:56.

you have got is when it is not quite happen, it is beatable. Warren

:20:57.:21:02.

Gatland said in his interview, the teams have negated their strengths.

:21:03.:21:08.

That is what coaches do. To go back to the England game last

:21:09.:21:13.

year, I was sat here after that tremendous was three, -- Welsh

:21:14.:21:17.

victory, I have not been allowed forget it, but...

:21:18.:21:31.

Well said. But in terms of England and Ireland,

:21:32.:21:33.

I do not think Wales have gone backwards, they have plateaued. The

:21:34.:21:39.

one thing that has impressed me about England and not so much

:21:40.:21:43.

Ireland, they are possessed with scrummage. -- obsessed. I think it

:21:44.:21:51.

actually choke them. The English scrum has not functioned

:21:52.:21:56.

brilliantly. It has been able to compete. The line-out has been

:21:57.:22:01.

pretty good. But this England team are playing. Before, if the scrum

:22:02.:22:09.

collapsed, the team collapsed. If we go back to the autumn series, what

:22:10.:22:15.

is going on? How they did not eat New Zealand, we shall never know.

:22:16.:22:21.

But they have moved on. I think there is a lot more to come

:22:22.:22:25.

from this website. Yesterday, the skills and confidence that they

:22:26.:22:30.

showed will hopefully now given the confidence to do a little bit more

:22:31.:22:36.

because they will become a far more dangerous side-effect of step upon

:22:37.:22:43.

change a little bit. When you are winning those collisions, you can do

:22:44.:22:51.

that. That is the difference. I was struck by what Warren Gatland said.

:22:52.:22:54.

He said about the media ramping up the pressure on Wales as well. But

:22:55.:23:00.

maybe that is a point. The reaction to the defeat at Twickenham has been

:23:01.:23:02.

slightly hysterical. They have only to the defeat at Twickenham has been

:23:03.:23:09.

Ross 36 Nations matches in the last three seasons. Yes, as a Welsh

:23:10.:23:16.

spectator, I want Wales to do well. Losing three games in three

:23:17.:23:22.

championships is not a bad start. They are not a bad side overnight.

:23:23.:23:28.

In and have improved, Ireland have improved -- England. I am quite

:23:29.:23:33.

impressed with the manner in which England are playing at the moment.

:23:34.:23:41.

It is the first time in a long time I have enjoyed watching them

:23:42.:23:46.

playing. But they look more comfortable with ball in hand. They

:23:47.:23:54.

just look competent. Wales looked out of sorts. It is not quite panic

:23:55.:24:03.

stations yet developed there a time to learn from your mistakes, it is

:24:04.:24:10.

now. Also, it is a fantastic record but it is the manner in which we

:24:11.:24:16.

lost those games. Everyone was disappointed because we did not just

:24:17.:24:20.

use them narrowly, we were totally outplayed. You were outplayed by

:24:21.:24:28.

Ireland but at Twickenham, there were acre plot bad decisions made,

:24:29.:24:35.

you created opportunities. Ten points? It is not 1 million miles.

:24:36.:24:45.

It has not been catastrophic. It was a special day for Gethin

:24:46.:24:49.

Jenkins yesterday. A remarkable career.

:24:50.:25:27.

Gethin Jenkins, he is going to score.

:25:28.:25:45.

That charge down is everybody's favourite Gethin Jenkins bowl went

:25:46.:25:56.

-- moment. The meantime he smiles is when he has got wind. You cannot

:25:57.:26:02.

give him enough credit. He is a phenomenal player. We have played

:26:03.:26:12.

with him for a number of years. What sets him apart from any other player

:26:13.:26:16.

is his game now signed intelligence. He knows what he's talking about.

:26:17.:26:40.

From 4/ the have their heads down -- front row forwards usually

:26:41.:26:44.

From 4/ the have their heads down -- their heads down. You have to

:26:45.:26:46.

consider him as one of our all-time legends. There are not many players

:26:47.:26:54.

that get 105 caps. He leads from the front, literally. You can check the

:26:55.:27:04.

world legend tag around but he will go as long as he possibly can.

:27:05.:27:12.

It is difficult to sum him up because he ticks so many boxes. He

:27:13.:27:16.

truly is an all-round front row forward. He does all the work, plays

:27:17.:27:22.

the ball, he understands the game well. I try and think back to things

:27:23.:27:29.

I remember, guys that I have played with, he must have a six cylinder

:27:30.:27:38.

engine. He keeps going and going. Phenomenal to have played with and

:27:39.:27:41.

not some nice to have played against times. But use your world-class

:27:42.:27:47.

legible the time, for me, he is in that bracket. -- world-class legend.

:27:48.:27:58.

The work they put in the front row was phenomenal. His game

:27:59.:28:04.

understanding and positional play, defensively, is amazing.

:28:05.:28:10.

Many congratulations, Gethin Jenkins. Let's bring you up-to-date

:28:11.:28:14.

with the women and the under 20s. The women are aiming

:28:15.:28:26.

wooden spoon as both Wales and Scotland have yet to win in this

:28:27.:28:32.

season 's campaign. On Friday, the under 20s welcomed the Scots to

:28:33.:28:38.

North Wales. It was a good evening for Wales. It turned out to be an

:28:39.:28:45.

exceedingly comfortable victory. It was due almost entirely to the

:28:46.:28:51.

dominance of their pack. Jack Dixon straightens and the Dragons centre

:28:52.:28:58.

crosses for Wales. The dominant Welsh pack once more destroyed the

:28:59.:29:03.

Scots. James Benjamin fix it up to Tom

:29:04.:29:08.

Williams. And as the match ended the closing

:29:09.:29:13.

stages, Steffan Hughes rounded off another try. Byron Hayward 's men

:29:14.:29:21.

finish off with a big win and with fourth position.

:29:22.:29:27.

It was a semi-affair for Wales women earlier today. Wales got off to an

:29:28.:29:38.

ideal start. Conditions were perfect for someone in rugby. A third try

:29:39.:29:43.

came from good hands with the winner over in the corner. Confident

:29:44.:29:48.

handling resulted in Wales 's fourth and final try. Despite a pointless

:29:49.:29:57.

second half, Wales ended their six Nations campaign with their first

:29:58.:30:02.

win. But it was France again taking the honours.

:30:03.:30:19.

Congratulations. You may have seen Martyn Williams a few moments ago

:30:20.:30:27.

having a go at the sport relief challenge. This is what happened.

:30:28.:30:53.

What you are trying to do there was cycling mile as fast as you can.

:30:54.:31:03.

That was my second goal because the lady did not start the clock on my

:31:04.:31:08.

first one. I am getting that in early. She didn't start the clock.

:31:09.:31:22.

OK. Is that the official excuse? Yeah. Wait for this. This is

:31:23.:31:32.

brilliant. This is what happened when Shane Williams jumped on the

:31:33.:31:33.

bike this afternoon. No sound. Apparently,

:31:34.:31:50.

sound. Is that because No sound. Apparently,

:31:51.:32:00.

easy? I was crying. That was horrendous, honest to God. So, the

:32:01.:32:10.

official time: You are one minute and 47 seconds. I was quicker, yes.

:32:11.:32:19.

You were quicker. Very good. If you want to join in the Sport Relief

:32:20.:32:22.

challenge, go to this website: England went to Rome harbouring

:32:23.:32:41.

hopes of clinching their first title since 2011. They needed to overturn

:32:42.:32:44.

the huge deficit to prevail. Loads of space in front of Mike

:32:45.:32:57.

Brown. The second try for Mike Brown.

:32:58.:33:01.

Here they come. He gets over the line for his first England try.

:33:02.:33:16.

An interception. He heads for the lying and England will not want that

:33:17.:33:24.

to happen. Dixon comes jumping in. A lovely

:33:25.:33:33.

little break. And the In Paris, it was Brian O'Driscoll,

:33:34.:34:00.

an Ireland were determined to give him his fairy tale sendoff. Still

:34:01.:34:04.

therefore Ireland. Sexton over the line. A great try for Ireland. They

:34:05.:34:07.

opened their account. Brian O'Driscoll. There is a space

:34:08.:34:22.

here for Conor Murray. Ireland's second try.

:34:23.:34:33.

A try for France, beautifully played.

:34:34.:34:42.

Andrew Trimble. Can it be the perfect finish for Brian

:34:43.:34:49.

O'Driscoll? He is still going. Two metres short. O Connell picks up. It

:34:50.:34:57.

has to be Johnny Sexton. Last chance for France. Paul

:34:58.:35:32.

O'Connell holds up. Penalty... No, whatever it is, it doesn't matter.

:35:33.:35:35.

The whistle has gone. Ireland are the six Nations champions.

:35:36.:35:41.

Ireland are the RBS Six Nations champions.

:35:42.:35:55.

What a story. Brian O'Driscoll, when more season, goes to Paris and wins

:35:56.:36:04.

it. A great match, a great occasion and a fitting end to an amazing

:36:05.:36:08.

career for a legendary player. There is no more you can say.

:36:09.:36:18.

Disappointing, as a proud Englishman yesterday and the resultant England

:36:19.:36:20.

performance but I can honestly say, I don't begrudge Brian O'Driscoll's

:36:21.:36:26.

final appearance for Ireland, walking off the field with the

:36:27.:36:33.

Championships. When you start out on your career, whatever it is you want

:36:34.:36:38.

to do, that guy has inspired not just Irish France but the rugby

:36:39.:36:43.

world. I think it is the greatest accolade that you can give somebody.

:36:44.:36:48.

It has been exceptional. Doesn't it go deeper than that? Sports fans,

:36:49.:36:52.

even if they are not rugby fans, they will recognise his talent and

:36:53.:36:57.

what he has done for the sport. I think anything he does on the pitch,

:36:58.:37:03.

off the pitch he is a great bloke. He does... He has been the most

:37:04.:37:09.

complete rugby player of our generation, as in his

:37:10.:37:14.

complete rugby player of our his tackling, and there is nothing

:37:15.:37:16.

he cannot do. He will be sorely missed by Ireland. Last season, a

:37:17.:37:20.

lot of people wrote him off and then he came back and wind - won the

:37:21.:37:24.

title. That's the sign of a good player. He knew within himself that

:37:25.:37:28.

he was good enough to play another year. He was successful with Ireland

:37:29.:37:32.

and what a way to finish. The only thing he hasn't won the World Cup!

:37:33.:37:39.

He is one of these players whose knowledge of the game is immense. He

:37:40.:37:44.

truly is one of the players I've seen and worked with. He deserves

:37:45.:37:50.

all the credit he gets. Well said. Let's turn our attention to Wales

:37:51.:37:54.

once again in a moment. We will talk about the World Cup and the summer

:37:55.:37:59.

tour to South Africa. There are some hidden messages in this jumping ship

:38:00.:38:04.

for Warren Gatland to take to the summer tour. They failed to dominate

:38:05.:38:07.

in the possession and territory stakes, even though they had three

:38:08.:38:10.

home games. The game plan has been questioned. In the trice cakes,

:38:11.:38:15.

Wales moved up the ladder but seven of those tries were in yesterday's

:38:16.:38:21.

14 man game. Ireland and England lead the way. Wales have made the

:38:22.:38:29.

most changes to the starting team. Ireland and England were pretty

:38:30.:38:32.

consistent in their selections. Wales have made crucial poor

:38:33.:38:35.

decisions and their turnover rate has been quite high.

:38:36.:38:41.

Ireland were very strong over the ball on our attack and sometimes

:38:42.:38:45.

Wales have lacked direction, lost their way. We can see Wiest

:38:46.:38:50.

Priestland losing it in a crucial position there. - Rhys Priestland.

:38:51.:39:05.

At times, Wales have had to resort to a kicking game which has been

:39:06.:39:13.

poor at times. Out in Dublin against Ireland, the Welsh forwards got

:39:14.:39:17.

knocked back time and time again. The men in green were right up for

:39:18.:39:20.

it and not them back over the gain line. You can see here, on the third

:39:21.:39:26.

phase, Alun Wyn Jones gets smashed. When we come to play South Africa

:39:27.:39:30.

this summer, you can expect more of the same. These are the most

:39:31.:39:33.

physical international athletes in our game and in the autumn, when

:39:34.:39:37.

Wales tried to bash through on the line, they will turn them over on

:39:38.:39:41.

the 22. Talking of South Africa, lust and Wales were there, they lost

:39:42.:39:45.

both test matches but only six of the current squad played in those

:39:46.:39:49.

games. Under Warren Gatland, Wales have not won against South Africa.

:39:50.:39:54.

They've conceded 20 tries in that time.

:39:55.:39:59.

With so many changes, and an ageing squad, is it time to bring in new

:40:00.:40:09.

players? There are easier places to blood new players. The squad we've

:40:10.:40:14.

got at the moment, that is where all the best players are. There are one

:40:15.:40:17.

or two who will come through but if you look underneath the Welsh squad

:40:18.:40:21.

in the regional game, there are not many players to put in there. As for

:40:22.:40:27.

resting a few players, I would for South Africa. Key players like Alun

:40:28.:40:33.

Wyn Jones, and others, they played every game for Wales, every game for

:40:34.:40:38.

their region. I think with the World Cup in mind next Joe, I would give

:40:39.:40:41.

them the summer off because it is a huge autumn series coming up with

:40:42.:40:47.

the top three sides and Fiji. I think you've got to take every

:40:48.:40:52.

player on an individual basis. Martin makes a good point. Those

:40:53.:40:58.

boys have played a lot of rugby. Would you take them? I don't know.

:40:59.:41:02.

It's a tough place to go not with your best team. I understand what he

:41:03.:41:09.

is saying. I think that is only a two-week tour, three games... Two

:41:10.:41:15.

games. With the World Cup coming up, if you're going to go and win, you

:41:16.:41:19.

need those two players. Then have a rest afterwards. The challenge is

:41:20.:41:26.

being competitive enough with your settled squad to be able to play

:41:27.:41:33.

your game plan and pattern. You need to be of get used to it and get

:41:34.:41:36.

something out of it. If you change too much and it doesn't go very

:41:37.:41:40.

well, you come back from a summer tour and what do you know? What have

:41:41.:41:47.

you learned? I think that South Africa will be dark horses to win

:41:48.:41:51.

the World Cup. Everyone is going to say New Zealand. For me, whatever

:41:52.:41:54.

the conditions in England when the World Cup is on, they are capable of

:41:55.:42:01.

adapting to every condition. For me, the autumn becomes more prevalent

:42:02.:42:06.

over the next World Cup. There is a lot of rugby. Every test match is

:42:07.:42:11.

important but I'm not saying rest all players, cherry pick one or two.

:42:12.:42:16.

Here is a question, I was surprised in the six Nations before Wales and

:42:17.:42:19.

England, Wales were favourites going into that game. And I thought to

:42:20.:42:29.

myself, Warren Gatland and the players... I wanted someone from

:42:30.:42:35.

Wales to go up and say yes, we are, we are going to be favourites. I

:42:36.:42:40.

didn't get that. I didn't get that feeling. Not that I wanted them to!

:42:41.:42:45.

From a Welsh point of view, would you like to see a little bit more

:42:46.:42:49.

from Wales as in, do you know what... Because you are the best

:42:50.:42:54.

team in the north hemisphere for a number of years. Start backing

:42:55.:43:00.

yourselves a bit more. Usually, that comes from the front and I don't

:43:01.:43:04.

think that Sam Warburton's way of captaining the team is like that. He

:43:05.:43:09.

is not as vocal as some captains. He does most of his talking on the

:43:10.:43:13.

field. He's very little in what he does. That is why we didn't see

:43:14.:43:18.

that. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but I just thought to

:43:19.:43:22.

myself... It is not in our nature to go banging on how good we are. As a

:43:23.:43:26.

nation, we don't. Sometimes, when you're going into a World Cup,

:43:27.:43:36.

you... Are you feeling all right? I see the point you're trying to make.

:43:37.:43:39.

Wales haven't gone into this tournament saying, we are the

:43:40.:43:43.

champions, let's have it. It's not arrogant. Not in a fashion like

:43:44.:43:51.

Lawrence Dallaglio used to employ. That used to make me cringe. You

:43:52.:43:55.

should back yourselves little bit more. Wales like to do their talking

:43:56.:44:00.

on the field. That has always been the case. There is nothing worse

:44:01.:44:05.

than putting yourself up there, saying we are the champions and we

:44:06.:44:09.

are going to take it and then, as with happened, it gets taken away.

:44:10.:44:12.

The difficulty in the summer tour, with happened, it gets taken away.

:44:13.:44:19.

is the lost two players yesterday. Liam Williams was... Those two can

:44:20.:44:26.

step in because they've been here and done it before. The front row

:44:27.:44:31.

will be a severe test going to South Africa. It's going to be... I assume

:44:32.:44:36.

now that the preparations are in place to rest some of these

:44:37.:44:40.

players, or have rest periods before the World Cup. They must have a

:44:41.:44:48.

training programme in place. Until the World Cup, it is going to be

:44:49.:44:53.

massive. It is always going to be about managing expectations. Going

:44:54.:44:57.

to South Africa, if we win over there, we are doing exceptionally

:44:58.:45:01.

well. Being realistic, we are going in as underdogs. We've got to start

:45:02.:45:13.

ramping it up. As Phil says, we need to say we are playing Australia and

:45:14.:45:16.

England, we are going to give it everything and we will come out on

:45:17.:45:20.

top. Just a final word. I would be intrigued to find out what is the

:45:21.:45:23.

one thing you learn from Wales this year. ?6 40 to get over the bridge!

:45:24.:45:35.

I just think that they are capable. The Welsh team, on their a game, is

:45:36.:45:44.

unbeatable. They are given - big-game players. Thank you to my

:45:45.:45:49.

guests. Wales left it late but it was Ireland who stole the show. From

:45:50.:45:51.

all of us here, nos da. How we dared to dream of troubles

:45:52.:46:03.

and cheeky grins. It started with a steel. They know

:46:04.:46:21.

there is a big test in Dublin next week. An epic journey had begun. And

:46:22.:46:30.

clock crows were crowing. What a start to the six Nations. France are

:46:31.:46:43.

going to steal it. Round two was all about grudges.

:46:44.:46:51.

Brian O'Driscoll. Oh, dear. Out thought. Out muscled. Ouch. That is

:46:52.:47:07.

one of the worst performances I have had since being involved.

:47:08.:47:17.

Elsewhere, England's BBC were on fire. Mike Brown is in for the try.

:47:18.:47:32.

Danny Care for the line. And the French were purring. Careers were on

:47:33.:47:45.

the line. Players are under the pressure because for some of May

:47:46.:47:47.

the line. Players are under the could their last game. Wales

:47:48.:47:47.

demanded. Wales delivered. Sam Warburton for the line, he is

:47:48.:48:10.

going to score. It was on. And then it was off.

:48:11.:48:25.

Goodbye Brian O'Driscoll and thanks. Hello, try -fest finale.

:48:26.:48:48.

End of the year and what an end. Brian O'Driscoll can celebrate.

:48:49.:48:58.

Ireland are the six Nations champions.
