England and Wales, both played three and won two. The title was still up | :00:25. | :00:30.
for grabs but Wales were caught napping. Danny Care takes it quickly | :00:31. | :00:40.
and scores. Penalty. Puts it behind Halfpenny. Deflection. | :00:41. | :00:46.
With poor execution and errors mounting, Wales pay the ultimate | :00:47. | :00:48.
price. What now for Wales? Good evening. Welcome to the Scrum V | :00:49. | :01:06.
Six Nations Special. It was a dark day for Wales at Twickenham this | :01:07. | :01:16.
afternoon. Now the inquest begins with Jonathan Davies, Robert Jones, | :01:17. | :01:19.
Lyn Jones and Gareth Llewellyn. And, that ladies and gentlemen, may well | :01:20. | :01:22.
be the biggest Welsh cheer we have had all day. Jonathan Davies, where | :01:23. | :01:28.
did it all go wrong? The best side won. I think we hung on the first | :01:29. | :01:33.
half. We should have been further behind. Nothing really went well for | :01:34. | :01:41.
us. Our kicking game wasn't great. We didn't counterattack. You know, | :01:42. | :01:47.
the wingers weren't brought into the game at all. We weren't creative. | :01:48. | :01:52.
The biggest thing for me, Ireland worked us out. England did the same. | :01:53. | :01:56.
There was one example today we highlighted after the game, when | :01:57. | :01:59.
they were wrapping around in the second half, after 60 minute, they | :02:00. | :02:02.
had four defenders waiting for us and two attackers still went and | :02:03. | :02:07.
went through the system. You know, you can't do that any more. What was | :02:08. | :02:12.
happening was they were able to tackle the ball, rather than ball | :02:13. | :02:18.
carriers, one went low, one ripped the ball and from a good position in | :02:19. | :02:23.
the 22, we weren't attacking the ball. You were at Twickenham, Rob, | :02:24. | :02:26.
you were talking about the experience Wales had. You thought | :02:27. | :02:29.
that might give them the edge over England. Where were our big Test | :02:30. | :02:33.
Match players? Warren Gatland said that before the game. I spoke to | :02:34. | :02:37.
him. They were talking about the experience they had and the lack of | :02:38. | :02:40.
experience England had. But England today, they beat us in every | :02:41. | :02:44.
department. They were sharper than us. Probably more physical than us. | :02:45. | :02:47.
I think they were more imaginative than us. They created a lot. They | :02:48. | :02:51.
were prepared to play from deep and they played with pace and momentum. | :02:52. | :02:55.
I think Stuart Lancaster has a side there who he allows the fwree dom to | :02:56. | :02:59.
express themselves. That came through today. I agree with | :03:00. | :03:03.
Jonathan. I think we have been found out twice this season. They had done | :03:04. | :03:06.
their homework and I think, as a result, sides are starting to work | :03:07. | :03:10.
us out and starting to compete in certain areas which we have | :03:11. | :03:13.
dominated in the past. Another disappointing performance on the | :03:14. | :03:17.
road, Gareth? It is. As well as England played, I think a lot of our | :03:18. | :03:21.
problems are self-inflicted. We are making a will the of mistakes. As | :03:22. | :03:26.
Jonathan said, we are losing poorly, making too many mistakes. We fell | :03:27. | :03:31.
off the tackles today. We talk about big match players. At the moment we | :03:32. | :03:35.
are sfrugling to implement a game plan which has served us well and | :03:36. | :03:40.
we've louts. We all the et if we were struggling against the southern | :03:41. | :03:44.
hemisphere sides. Now we are struggling to implement it and we | :03:45. | :03:48.
don't have an answer. More from you later. | :03:49. | :03:50.
Now let's bring you commentary from the big match. Your commentators, | :03:51. | :03:55.
Martyn Williams, Brian Moore and Eddie butt letter. | :03:56. | :04:00.
-- Butler. Still the penalty advantage. Farrell | :04:01. | :04:09.
wrapped up by Sam Warburton. We go back to the first penalty. | :04:10. | :04:24.
Danny Care takes it quickly and scores. | :04:25. | :04:33.
Courtney Lawes. Rhys Webb with the tackle and Lawes didn't lease. | :04:34. | :04:38.
Penalty to Wales. -- didn't release. | :04:39. | :04:49.
Safely landed. Wales are on the board. Jonathan Davies. | :04:50. | :04:56.
Oh, the pass surely would have done it. | :04:57. | :05:15.
No immediate challenge on May. He runs around Jonathan Davies, Jamie | :05:16. | :05:25.
Roberts tracks back with the tackle. Good counter-rucking by Wales. It's | :05:26. | :05:32.
gone scrappily and illegally for England. | :05:33. | :05:43.
And we say it all the time, it is a superb strike by Leigh Halfpenny. | :05:44. | :05:55.
Oh, Wales are in real trouble here. Twelve fwefl twelve comes away with | :05:56. | :06:03.
it. A pass to Jonny May. Leigh Halfpennier to across. May still | :06:04. | :06:11.
goes. Care has the ball. Twelvetrees puts it behind Halfpenny. Burrell. | :06:12. | :06:26.
A penalty, England are offside in front of the knock-on. | :06:27. | :06:43.
Same result as ever. Five penalties for Leigh Halfpenny. | :06:44. | :06:57.
North still going and delivers the pass into space. Danny Care, though, | :06:58. | :07:04.
in trouble. Good covering by the England scrum-half. They have earned | :07:05. | :07:06.
themselves a penalty. . That went towardses are Reece | :07:07. | :07:23.
Priestland, oh and Priestland drops it. | :07:24. | :07:41.
Penalty to England from in a scrummage. England's lead goes and | :07:42. | :07:47.
now Wales will have to score at least twice. | :07:48. | :07:56.
It is difficult to bring George North down. Now Wales do have a | :07:57. | :08:04.
chance leer. Cuthbert - the speed of Cuthbert again. He gets the ball to | :08:05. | :08:08.
Priestland with Faletau in support. He gets the ball to Leigh Halfpenny. | :08:09. | :08:14.
Danny Care back with a tackle. Wales, though, through Jamie | :08:15. | :08:18.
Roberts. He tries to kick and that's not going to work. Owen Farrell has | :08:19. | :08:22.
the simple task of touching down for the 22. | :08:23. | :08:33.
A penalty to England. This could be a yellow card as well. It is. Yellow | :08:34. | :08:40.
card, Gethin Jenkins. 26-18. It's gone horribly wrong as | :08:41. | :09:21.
Billy Twelvetrees comes away with it. England, through Jack Nowell, | :09:22. | :09:29.
and Faletau gets back. He finds Courtney Lawes. Burrell, four caps, | :09:30. | :09:36.
four tries is it? Or is he out of play. Four caps, three tries. | :09:37. | :09:46.
Mike Phillips can't get the ball away cleanly. | :09:47. | :09:55.
The front rowers, they have such an appetite for contact and tackling. | :09:56. | :10:08.
Cuthbert drops it. That will be it. Romain n Poite blows for half time. | :10:09. | :10:11.
It is smiles all round for those wearing white. England have beaten | :10:12. | :10:17.
Wales here at Twickenham by 29-18. So, a Triple Crown for England, | :10:18. | :10:22.
their first since 2003. Let's get reaction from both camps. | :10:23. | :10:27.
This is the Verdict. I mean, the cloud were fantastic | :10:28. | :10:35.
from the off. They gave us the energy prior to the game. We We set | :10:36. | :10:43.
out from the start. We didn't get it all right. Leigh Halfpenny punished | :10:44. | :10:51.
us. Overall we were deserved winners. I thought they put our | :10:52. | :10:55.
kicking game under pressure. When Danny Care got the first try, we | :10:56. | :10:59.
didn't rely. It is a lapse in concentration, from the forwards, as | :11:00. | :11:03.
soon as the penalty is given, we should get back up and get back into | :11:04. | :11:07.
it straight away. We failed and there were a couple of crucial | :11:08. | :11:12.
turnovers. Little things like, that it was, seven, 10, 13 points in the | :11:13. | :11:16.
game and suddenly you are chasing and it makes it difficult in this | :11:17. | :11:21.
tournament we have been inconsistent. At times we play | :11:22. | :11:26.
exceptionally well and at times we haven't been as good and capable as | :11:27. | :11:32.
we have been. I think we have to lack at one or two guys. Players | :11:33. | :11:37.
coming off the bench have done a good job. Maybe they deserve that | :11:38. | :11:42.
opportunity or the reward for good displays. It is important we have a | :11:43. | :11:45.
look at the game and sit down and then we make what we think is a | :11:46. | :11:49.
prudent judgment about the selection for next week. | :11:50. | :11:54.
Really disappointing, another poor performance for Wales away from | :11:55. | :11:58.
home. Sean Holley is here. Sean, for you, what happened? I don't think | :11:59. | :12:02.
Wales looked like winning either of their away games. If you look at the | :12:03. | :12:07.
general statistics. It was a 50/50 game in territory and possession but | :12:08. | :12:12.
England carved out two crucial tries. The metres game is where | :12:13. | :12:17.
England won. Their back three carried twice as far as ours but | :12:18. | :12:22.
after the 50% of potential Wales had, they kicked it 30 times, 60%. | :12:23. | :12:28.
It is not necessarily how much but how accurately. The kicks were | :12:29. | :12:33.
aimless, too far. They often found the England back three who were | :12:34. | :12:38.
very, very dangerous. They were cute. Watch again, the kick is too | :12:39. | :12:43.
far, it gets to Jonny May. And Launchbury subtle but enough to | :12:44. | :12:47.
distract Richard Hibbard from tackling Jack Nowell. England | :12:48. | :12:50.
surprised Wales from kourntd attacking from deep in their own 22. | :12:51. | :12:55.
They picked and wented up the middle, scuppering Wales' wide | :12:56. | :12:59.
defence and in Courtney Lawes, in the game in his own 22. Ben Morgan | :13:00. | :13:04.
in for Vunipola. Looked dangerous from deep. When you do that it | :13:05. | :13:09.
brings the Wales' win wingers up. Owen Farrell knows this and sees | :13:10. | :13:13.
Cuthbert is out of position. This times he goes over his head and pins | :13:14. | :13:17.
them back further in their territory. When they were deep in | :13:18. | :13:20.
their half they couldn't get out. England pushed them back as close as | :13:21. | :13:25.
their own line. Time and time again they were caught. England were on | :13:26. | :13:31.
their game. Basic skills let England down. 24 missed tackles. Poor | :13:32. | :13:37.
presentation was poor from Wales. You see Hibbard and Owen Wilson. All | :13:38. | :13:46.
day long they presented long and clean, England, so Danny Care could | :13:47. | :13:51.
have an armchair ride. The basic kicking tactics was there. This was | :13:52. | :13:54.
a good tactic from Jonathan Davies. He saw the space but the execution | :13:55. | :14:00.
was really, really poor. Contrast again the defendant skanl touch of | :14:01. | :14:05.
Billy Twelvetrees putting it on his foot -- the defendant skills. There | :14:06. | :14:09.
was some coaching decisions on the day. Should Reece prees land have | :14:10. | :14:15.
been on as long as he did? And did Paul Jones come on a bit late? . In | :14:16. | :14:21.
a release from last year's scrummage, England won the day. | :14:22. | :14:26.
Gethin Jenkins disappointed with a yellow card. Paul James, when he | :14:27. | :14:29.
came on, it was a different story but was it too little, too late? We | :14:30. | :14:34.
make these coaching decisions on the field. Were they do late, what did | :14:35. | :14:38.
you make of the substitutions? Well, damned if we do and damned if we | :14:39. | :14:43.
don't. The thing with Wales, we were still in the game. We were still | :14:44. | :14:46.
there and you know as a coach you have to give faith to your players. | :14:47. | :14:51.
You have made your selection, and, you know, it is a tough call. | :14:52. | :14:57.
Certainly Dan Biggar came on and steadied the step. The error count | :14:58. | :15:02.
and skill levels were poor throughout. A lot of players for | :15:03. | :15:06.
Wales were playing very well. Some didn't play well at all. When you | :15:07. | :15:10.
take that into consideration, it is quite a simple game, rugby. If you | :15:11. | :15:15.
make mistakes, time and time again, you won't win matches. Jonathan in | :15:16. | :15:22.
the studio, you called T you said the half back parter inship wasn't | :15:23. | :15:28.
working. And it was said that's why the coaches are paid big bucks. It | :15:29. | :15:33.
wasn't working. We saw the stats. You know, there was a lot of | :15:34. | :15:37.
mistakes during the match. I think we all know, Reece Priestland is a | :15:38. | :15:40.
confidence player. He wasn't confident. Sometimes he seems as if | :15:41. | :15:47.
the world is on your shoulders. You don't want that from a halfback. He | :15:48. | :15:51.
is the one dictating the game for you. They were far more creative | :15:52. | :15:55.
than us. It was difficult. They worked our system out to defind T | :15:56. | :16:01.
they put pressure on it. Tackles in. They played with pace. Their second | :16:02. | :16:06.
rows were brill yanted but they hit midfield a lot. Danny Care and Owen | :16:07. | :16:12.
Farrell and Mike dictated which way they were going. They were asking | :16:13. | :16:15.
questions from us all the time. It was difficult to work out what | :16:16. | :16:18.
exactly we were trying to do. Gareth, to be fair, we were talking | :16:19. | :16:23.
about Reece Priestland and were those kicks bad execution or is it | :16:24. | :16:27.
what we are trying to do? For so long we have kicked the ball long | :16:28. | :16:32.
for territory. We have two big guys in the centre, we have two of the | :16:33. | :16:37.
biggest wingers in world rugby, we never kick for pressure and for the | :16:38. | :16:42.
guys to compete. We saw nierld, Rob Kearney catching the ball, putting | :16:43. | :16:47.
it up in the air and compete competing Leigh Halfpenny for the | :16:48. | :16:50.
ball. It puts pressure on us. If we recover, we have to get 14 boys back | :16:51. | :16:54.
behind the ball to do something with it. As much as it is easy to point | :16:55. | :16:59.
the fingers at players and some didn't play well but we have to | :17:00. | :17:03.
question our tactics. The chase wasn't good then. If you are chasing | :17:04. | :17:07.
distance, the chase has to be good. If you are kicking, the form | :17:08. | :17:12.
fullback, and if you are going to kick long, the chase has to be spot | :17:13. | :17:17.
on. The chase is reasonable. You are allowing Mike Brown, 20 or 30 | :17:18. | :17:23.
meeters to run back. Is he has it make up that ground and then put the | :17:24. | :17:29.
kick in. England kicked Wales and you thought - here we g two pairs of | :17:30. | :17:35.
hand over the field. I this I think it was north. | :17:36. | :17:38.
There was a change of tactics. Then, I thought - here we g a fresh | :17:39. | :17:45.
impetus, a different tactic. Another thing we didn't do well. As Gareth | :17:46. | :17:49.
said with the Irish fullback is take the ball right up to the line, to | :17:50. | :17:53.
the defence. Get everybody up and drag your chasers right through that | :17:54. | :17:59.
to get in the air and challenge. Although we have our back line, I | :18:00. | :18:03.
think everyone is scared of playing against them. They | :18:04. | :18:05.
think everyone is scared of playing brilliant and the wingers are | :18:06. | :18:07.
dangerous. We need them to have ball in hand. We don't | :18:08. | :18:11.
dangerous. We need them to have ball If you look at the selection issues, | :18:12. | :18:14.
maybe later, we are not going to go outside of the squad. Whatever | :18:15. | :18:17.
people think, we haven't got the strength and depth in Wales in the | :18:18. | :18:23.
countryside. With the players we have, we have time before the next | :18:24. | :18:27.
World Cup. You look at the New Zealand centre. He was told three | :18:28. | :18:31.
years ago - listen, mate, if you don't work on your handling and | :18:32. | :18:35.
distribution and kicking skills you won't be playing for the All Blacks, | :18:36. | :18:40.
look at him now, he is a brilliant distributor. He has a hand in | :18:41. | :18:45.
kicking the ball. Why don't our centres work on that. There should | :18:46. | :18:53.
be more dummy running and kicking options and put the ball through the | :18:54. | :18:58.
hands because Jamie attracts so many people. Just off loading and bring | :18:59. | :19:02.
the wingers in. The owners comes back in the regions. I'm in chanch | :19:03. | :19:06.
one of. It is the skill development we all need to have a responsibility | :19:07. | :19:09.
for. The direction comes from Warren as head of our national side to give | :19:10. | :19:12.
us a little bit more direction as well, so we can keep out. We have a | :19:13. | :19:17.
day-to-day touch with all the players. Today's performance is a | :19:18. | :19:22.
reflection on our regions as well and all community clubs right | :19:23. | :19:25.
throughout Wales. Can I just say on what Sean was saying there, he | :19:26. | :19:30.
mentioned the 60% kicking statistic. You know what, when Munster was at | :19:31. | :19:37.
their pomp, they kicked away 60% of their possession and they were the | :19:38. | :19:41.
best team in Europe. The statistic, as Sean rightly said, is not bad, it | :19:42. | :19:47.
is how accurate you are. New Zealand kick more than anyone else. We don't | :19:48. | :19:52.
play the way we play because of the limb takeses of the players. It | :19:53. | :19:54.
comes back to the limb takeses of the players. It | :19:55. | :19:58.
there is more than the Welsh group than they are showing at the moment. | :19:59. | :20:02.
We can play more expansive rugby. But we are playing the way we are | :20:03. | :20:06.
because that's how we are being asked to play. We need to look at | :20:07. | :20:10.
the strengths of the players and adopt a game plan to allow them to | :20:11. | :20:14.
come through. We are not getting the best of Cuthbert and George North. | :20:15. | :20:20.
Jamie Robert, he is one-dimensional when he does a job. There is a | :20:21. | :20:26.
couple of things that Sean picked up on and you were talking about | :20:27. | :20:29.
accuracy. I'm thinking back to the last couple of seasons in the World | :20:30. | :20:32.
Cup in 2001 #1, everything was coming off. In the Grand Slam | :20:33. | :20:35.
following that and also last year, can you remember a time where Wales | :20:36. | :20:39.
were this sloppy in the Six Nations Championship? No. I think the Lions | :20:40. | :20:44.
probably has a part to play on T we have come back and looked tired and | :20:45. | :20:48.
jaded. We talk about fitness levels. Normally the last 10 or 15 minutes | :20:49. | :20:51.
is very important to Warren Gatland. He believes his side are fitter than | :20:52. | :20:54.
other teams and we'll come through. I don't think that was the case. Do | :20:55. | :20:59.
you think some players were struggling fitness-wise? Looking on | :21:00. | :21:02.
the park. Do you buy that? Or is it a lame excuse It is a fast track. | :21:03. | :21:07.
Twickenham is very fast. It is the best international surface in | :21:08. | :21:09.
northern hemisphere. It is brilliant. It is going to tire youed | :21:10. | :21:13.
out. But, again, the way we played, if you are on the front foot and | :21:14. | :21:18.
everyone is coming around the corner and steaming over people, then it is | :21:19. | :21:22.
easier and it is easier to execute your skills. When waiting for you | :21:23. | :21:27.
and put the pressure in the tackle area and you are not going over the | :21:28. | :21:31.
advantage line then it is harder to execute it. We have to vary it and | :21:32. | :21:34.
ask questions of the defence. That's what they have to do and change the | :21:35. | :21:38.
gym differently. Again going back to what they have to do and change the | :21:39. | :21:43.
Reece, he is there to do a job. -- Rees. The play is maybe more in the | :21:44. | :21:48.
face and he is kinds of more adventurous than Dan Biggar. If that | :21:49. | :21:52.
is he at case and you want to stick with that stand-off, give James Hook | :21:53. | :21:56.
a go to see how he goes. If you want a more controlling influence and a | :21:57. | :22:01.
bit of arrogance, you give Dan Biggar a G these are the decisions | :22:02. | :22:06.
they have to make now. I think Dan Biggar Fitzwarren Gatland's | :22:07. | :22:09.
became-plan more so than Rees Priestland at the moment. It will be | :22:10. | :22:13.
interesting to see how plays fullback -- than Rhys. | :22:14. | :22:18.
One big plus for me was Leigh Halfpenny's goal kicking, it waented | :22:19. | :22:23.
just fantastic. I thought he struggled with those distances in | :22:24. | :22:25.
the Australian tour in the summer with the Lions. Today he had four | :22:26. | :22:30.
kicks from ten yards to half way. He was nailing them with distance. I | :22:31. | :22:33.
would imagine he has been working on them. That was a lot to do with the | :22:34. | :22:37.
surface. As I said, Twickenham, it is a brilliant place to play rugby | :22:38. | :22:42.
and a brilliant surface to kick. In Australia, it was slightly, you | :22:43. | :22:45.
know, wet underfoot and he didn't get the distance. Here is the thing | :22:46. | :22:50.
about the game plan. How many sometimes have we talked about the | :22:51. | :22:53.
game plan when we have lost and it has come to nothing because we have | :22:54. | :22:56.
won the Championship or the Grand Slam. Now we are left empty handed | :22:57. | :23:02.
and now people will say Wales are too one-dimensional, what happens | :23:03. | :23:05.
next? Very much so. You know, although the Six Nations is probably | :23:06. | :23:10.
the best-supported tournament in the world bes, it is still second rate | :23:11. | :23:14.
it the Try Nations and we are well down the pecking order. Things are | :23:15. | :23:18.
not going to plan for us and where we need to be. You looking for small | :23:19. | :23:22.
improvements all the time. It is not coming through, those small | :23:23. | :23:26.
improvements. You don't mind losing a game as long as you see certain | :23:27. | :23:31.
aspects getting better. The whole game plan replies on quick ruck ball | :23:32. | :23:35.
and going forward and when it all kicked off in 2008 obviously there | :23:36. | :23:40.
was a whole bunch of Ospreys went up there to Wales and this was the game | :23:41. | :23:43.
plan and we don't step out of it. This is what we do, we adhere to it. | :23:44. | :23:49.
Don't step out of plan, get work and workern harder arounds the corner, | :23:50. | :23:53.
etc. They found it enjoyable but then obviously restructured as well. | :23:54. | :23:58.
What do you think? And very successful Absolutely. Players don't | :23:59. | :24:01.
turn bad overnight. They don't turn into a bad side. Maybe they are | :24:02. | :24:05.
tired but they have been worked out and they have to, you know, if | :24:06. | :24:09.
people are working us out we have to think about it. You have South | :24:10. | :24:15.
Africa... We have done it before and won Championships, so we keep on | :24:16. | :24:20.
doing it but if you don't keep evolving you will get worked out. | :24:21. | :24:23.
Every time you play you have weaknesses in your game. You need to | :24:24. | :24:27.
find out what they are. It takes a brave man and coach to work at and | :24:28. | :24:32.
and say - where are we weak? Where are teams looking at us where they | :24:33. | :24:35.
will exploit us the next game? A quick word to Rob, if I can, about | :24:36. | :24:40.
England. Do you think in many ways, Wales, and the rest of the Six | :24:41. | :24:43.
Nations have underestimated what has been happening at Twickenham. | :24:44. | :24:48.
Something is changing under Stuart Lancaster? Last year I think there | :24:49. | :24:51.
were signs of improvement, they were getting better and over the last 12 | :24:52. | :24:56.
months they've improved enormously. Luther Burrell is a good player in | :24:57. | :24:59.
midfield. They have players to come back. They have more depth. They | :25:00. | :25:02.
have a lot more rugby players than us and more depth. What is | :25:03. | :25:08.
impressive with England they beat Ireland under pressure on the set | :25:09. | :25:13.
piece. We scrummaged strongly but not smartly. They were winning | :25:14. | :25:18.
better. And let's face it, in the autumn | :25:19. | :25:22.
they were 15 minutes away from beating the All Blacks. Had it not | :25:23. | :25:27.
been for a little bit of brilliance they might have beaten them? Since | :25:28. | :25:31.
last year's defeat from Wales, they have been consistent, in their tempo | :25:32. | :25:35.
and in the way they have played. People will find it difficult, | :25:36. | :25:38.
teams, to play against them because they are difficult. They don't have | :25:39. | :25:42.
the struck true we play to. They hit midfield and when they hit midfield, | :25:43. | :25:46.
then the ball plays in. Have a look at which way to go. The fullback | :25:47. | :25:51.
stand-off comes in and says - look, you have a prop in there and they | :25:52. | :25:56.
attack. Also, they have got, very, very athletic second-rowers. Those | :25:57. | :26:01.
two today were phenomenal. You rated them. The second row is withdrew win | :26:02. | :26:06.
games and number 10 decides what the score is going to be as Gareth | :26:07. | :26:10.
rightly says, you know. I think the selection policy at England has been | :26:11. | :26:14.
consistent. They haven't suffered too much from injuries and likewise | :26:15. | :26:19.
they have got two excellent second rows. And at least they have found | :26:20. | :26:24.
Courtney Lawes and given him a bit of time. Thank you very much. #we8 | :26:25. | :26:27.
#' talk about Wales he v Scotland later. Wales' under-20s and Wales | :26:28. | :26:33.
Women both in action this weekend. #12k3w4r in the second half, a | :26:34. | :26:53.
breakaway from Kibirigy knocked more wind out of Wales' sails. There were | :26:54. | :26:57.
breakaway from Kibirigy knocked more no let-up as the home side added | :26:58. | :27:01.
four more tries. Gus Jones led the scoring charts with four of | :27:02. | :27:05.
England's 10 on what was a miserable evening for Wales. | :27:06. | :27:09.
Despite that impressive victory, the Championship is still out of | :27:10. | :27:12.
England's hands and it could be a Grand Slam for France having so far | :27:13. | :27:18.
won all of their four games: Wales Women were still seeking their | :27:19. | :27:22.
first win of the Six Nations campaign, but despite initially | :27:23. | :27:26.
enjoying the greater possession, England eventually cut loose to | :27:27. | :27:31.
torment Wales with their lethal finishing, Emily Scarratt scuttling | :27:32. | :27:36.
over for the first of two tries in the 23rd minute. | :27:37. | :27:40.
Five tries in total wane Scarratt scoring 20 points for England, it | :27:41. | :27:44.
was the fourth defeat in four games for Wales. So, England keep the | :27:45. | :27:48.
pressure on France, the favourite and it is between Scotland and Wales | :27:49. | :27:54.
for the Wooden Spoon. Well, it has been a pretty miserable | :27:55. | :27:59.
weekend. Back to the RBS Six Nations. Ireland and France. Both in | :28:00. | :28:03.
with a chance of winning the title, along with England, after wins in | :28:04. | :28:06.
Dublin and Edinburgh. Sexton, O'Driscoll, Sexton on the | :28:07. | :28:24.
loose. Sturdy Sexton. The Leinster parter inship works. O'Driscoll and | :28:25. | :28:31.
Sexton try. -- partnership. Luke McLean, a | :28:32. | :28:34.
chance here. He was smashed in the tackle by | :28:35. | :28:47.
Andrew truly trim. Oh, Subtle for the line. Oh, one try for Ireland | :28:48. | :28:50.
and now one for Italy. Some interference from the medics. | :28:51. | :29:03.
Not quite. Andrew Trimble. Yes, Ireland's second try. O'Driscoll | :29:04. | :29:12.
again. A great off-load. Rob Kearney. To Johnny Sexton. Oh, a | :29:13. | :29:17.
sweet try. MacFadden against the prop. | :29:18. | :29:24.
MacFadden scores. Scotland are making a little bit of | :29:25. | :29:45.
ground. A lovely little opener. He goes for the corner. Wonderful | :29:46. | :29:51.
hands, a wonderful pass. A glorious try for Tommy Seemore. | :29:52. | :29:58.
Scotland in now with a chance with the ball. The men out wide. | :29:59. | :30:03.
Interception and it maybe a try for Yoann Huget. He is galloping down | :30:04. | :30:08.
the pitch. He is in. Yoann Huget will go the length of the park to | :30:09. | :30:12.
score. A try for France. | :30:13. | :30:19.
The replacement scrum-half looks again. Carried on now. Turnover | :30:20. | :30:24.
ball. A penalty to France. So Ireland, England and France all | :30:25. | :30:46.
locked on significance points. Ireland have the edge because of | :30:47. | :30:55.
points. England beat Italy and Ireland loose, then stew the a | :30:56. | :31:00.
Lancaster's men will take the title. But for you, Gareth, ing given the | :31:01. | :31:07.
mazing atmosphere yesterday, it is for Ireland's to lose. | :31:08. | :31:12.
I cannot see how France can win it. If they do, I'm giving up, I said. | :31:13. | :31:17.
But, they are an enigma. You don't know what they are going to do but | :31:18. | :31:21.
they are awful. They shouldn't be in with a sniff of winning the | :31:22. | :31:24.
Championship but they are. What a story. What an incredible tale, if | :31:25. | :31:30.
Brian O'Driscoll wins it in his final game. They are capable. They | :31:31. | :31:34.
have been the best side overall. I think. As good as England R as we | :31:35. | :31:38.
said, France are poor. They were poor against Wales. They were worse | :31:39. | :31:44.
yesterday. I think Philippe Saint-Andre has real problems. Why | :31:45. | :31:49.
they persevere with some of the players, I don't noe. They are not | :31:50. | :31:53.
playing with French flair. They are playing a fairly organised. Well it | :31:54. | :31:57.
is suppose #d to be structured but I can't see a the pa earn. I think | :31:58. | :32:01.
Ireland will go there. They have everything to go for now and for | :32:02. | :32:04.
Brian O'Driscoll obviously a great swansong. And what did you make of | :32:05. | :32:09.
that emotional farewell yesterday in Dublin? Oh, he is just, you know, an | :32:10. | :32:12.
absolute legend. Dublin? Oh, he is just, you know, an | :32:13. | :32:19.
just incredible. You know, he's done it all. You know, he is great with | :32:20. | :32:23.
the ball. He is great without it. You know, he causes a lot of | :32:24. | :32:27.
turnovers. It takes it in. You know, he kicks if you want to. He is a | :32:28. | :32:33.
kicking option.er he has adapted his ga. When he started he was sleight. | :32:34. | :32:37.
He scored a hat-trick against France. As it evolved, he put weight | :32:38. | :32:44.
on. He coped. He had an injury for the Lions and went back. And the | :32:45. | :32:49.
day, just before the last Test for the Lions last year I had to | :32:50. | :32:53.
interview him because he had been dropped. The measure of the man, he | :32:54. | :32:59.
got up and spoke eloquently. He was bitterly disappointed but was very | :33:00. | :33:03.
supportive. He is a top, top bloke. For me, I agree with Rob, Ireland | :33:04. | :33:07.
have been the best side but England have pushed them but for me it would | :33:08. | :33:12.
be, you know, great if I could see Brian O'Driscoll going out as the | :33:13. | :33:17.
champion. Absolutely. And Lyn, there aren't many sportsmen, whichever | :33:18. | :33:21.
sport you look at, in the world, where you are widely acknowledged to | :33:22. | :33:24.
be the best in your field. That's what Brian O'Driscoll is. You ask | :33:25. | :33:29.
any rugby follower, they have a lot of praise for him? You can't | :33:30. | :33:34.
disagree with any of that. As a real rugby enthusiast. I enjoyed his play | :33:35. | :33:38.
over the years much it is inventive. Good thinking from him on every | :33:39. | :33:42.
aspect. He is up there with Gareth Edwards as the best player either it | :33:43. | :33:46.
play in the Six Nations or the Five Nations as it was before, without | :33:47. | :33:50.
doubt. He is fantastic. Well-said. So, for the first time since 2010, | :33:51. | :33:55.
Wales are involved in a dead rubber next Saturday against Scotland. Sean | :33:56. | :33:58.
holly, sell it to us. next Saturday against Scotland. Sean | :33:59. | :34:03.
-- Sean Holley Warren Gatland will not want it take his team on a | :34:04. | :34:07.
summer tour on the back of a loss. If you look at it, it is not a happy | :34:08. | :34:13.
hunting ground for the Scots. Will Scott Johnson factdor? Under | :34:14. | :34:17.
pressure. Only won five of 15 in charge. There is a lot of pressure | :34:18. | :34:21.
on Scott Johnson but they know how to break down. Look out for strong | :34:22. | :34:30.
centres looking to block the Welsh midfield and bring in their wing | :34:31. | :34:32.
runners. This is something they will look to do. I like this boy Hogg | :34:33. | :34:36.
when he comes N you find him coming in at 10 channel. Will he look to | :34:37. | :34:41.
put the ball in the air and behind Wales and exploit the blitz. If they | :34:42. | :34:48.
go toe-to-toe with this fellow, which was poor then this guy has the | :34:49. | :34:55.
boot. He can do it. The wingers come in, he is inventive and sharp. As | :34:56. | :35:01.
you see here, very creative. Giving a nice pass for one of the two | :35:02. | :35:05.
tries. They are still suspect in their defensive system. Some are | :35:06. | :35:08.
drifting, some shooting out of the line, Sean Lamont. Jumping out of | :35:09. | :35:13.
the line against Italy. Noor terms of numbers in organisation on drift. | :35:14. | :35:17.
Wales score on average, three tries a game against Scotland. Does Warren | :35:18. | :35:24.
Gatland change his team? Is this the time to bring a few new faces in? It | :35:25. | :35:30.
is easy on the back of a performance to point of the finger at players | :35:31. | :35:34.
and call for change. History has gone, we can't win the Championship, | :35:35. | :35:37.
so there is an opportunity to look at other players. I think we have to | :35:38. | :35:41.
realise that we will not solve some of the problems by team selection. | :35:42. | :35:44.
We have to change what we are doing. And, we have talked about | :35:45. | :35:47.
We have to change what we are doing. James, Dan Biggar, there are | :35:48. | :35:49.
We have to change what we are doing. who will come into the equation. | :35:50. | :35:50.
We have to change what we are doing. Maybe they will bring a new energy | :35:51. | :35:53.
into the team but we've still got to look at the way we are playing the | :35:54. | :35:58.
game if we are really going to improve and compete in the World Cup | :35:59. | :36:02.
and in the southern hems spheres. Rob, what will you do next Saturday? | :36:03. | :36:07.
I think he will make some changes. Leigh Halfpenny is out. I think he | :36:08. | :36:12.
will slot Liam Williams into that fullback position. I just hope as | :36:13. | :36:16.
Gareth said, we tinker with the way we play. We have to be more | :36:17. | :36:20.
creative. Our kicking game has to improve enormously, I think, in | :36:21. | :36:28.
order that we can compete te. I think there will be a couple of | :36:29. | :36:33.
changes. Interesting who he will pick at nine. I'm assuming Rhys Webb | :36:34. | :36:40.
will be out. It is the measure of success that Warren Gatland and we | :36:41. | :36:44.
have enjoyed and he has had over the last couple of years that it is the | :36:45. | :36:47.
first time in four years, where we are going into a final Saturday | :36:48. | :36:51.
where there is no hope of winning the title. Yeah, and on the back of | :36:52. | :37:00.
poor form against Ireland and I thought enlads play exceptionally | :37:01. | :37:03.
well today. It wasn't our day and we were totally outplayed. It is a | :37:04. | :37:06.
difficult call. I don't think he will make wholesale changes, because | :37:07. | :37:10.
it is very difficult in a short turn around. It is a Sunday, we are | :37:11. | :37:14.
playing a Saturday. A short turn around, to get people gelling | :37:15. | :37:17.
together. If he makes changes, it will be people from within a squad | :37:18. | :37:20.
already. There is no-one from the outside. I don't think he will make | :37:21. | :37:26.
many, many changes. As Gareth said, whether they change tactically a | :37:27. | :37:33.
little bit but they will know the way that Wales play and Scotland are | :37:34. | :37:37.
little bit but they will know the solid. They are solid at the scrum. | :37:38. | :37:40.
They are solid at the line you. Defensively they are good and new | :37:41. | :37:42.
they are getting a bit more confidence. How they lost yesterday, | :37:43. | :37:46.
I still don't know, you know. It was a dreaded mis-pass again when they | :37:47. | :37:51.
had that three-man overlap and the Frenchman intercepted. That's how | :37:52. | :37:57.
they lost. They are they will be coming very confident down to | :37:58. | :38:00.
Cardiff because they played well. Team selection will be interesting. | :38:01. | :38:04.
And team selection doesn't help changing game plans. It is about | :38:05. | :38:07.
recovery and building confidence and hoping that you can play a little | :38:08. | :38:11.
bit better next week. I'd like to think that there is a | :38:12. | :38:16.
scrum-half down at the Scarlets who will be given an opportunity to show | :38:17. | :38:20.
what he can do. They have good scrum-halves down there. It'll be | :38:21. | :38:23.
nice to see what they can offer. Wales need an attacking game off | :38:24. | :38:26.
nine. It is an international match. You | :38:27. | :38:32.
have. It is about winning. Scott Johnson said they want to win | :38:33. | :38:36.
pretty. If I was Scott Johnson I would try to win first. Yes. Hang | :38:37. | :38:42.
on, calm down a bit. Lets anticipate win first and win pretty afterwards. | :38:43. | :38:47.
O they haven't got creative halfbacks. They have up and down | :38:48. | :38:52.
players in midfield. A little bit of talent. If we win the kicking game | :38:53. | :38:58.
next week, I don't think Scotland will score from distance. To get it | :38:59. | :39:02.
back on track they have to work on it. Let's get the coaches' view. | :39:03. | :39:07.
What do you do? Tinker with selection? Some selections are | :39:08. | :39:11.
enforcedual esure Charteris will come back and Liam Williams will | :39:12. | :39:16.
start. Leigh is a big loss for our kicking game. So somewhere along the | :39:17. | :39:19.
line there has to be a good kicker selected somewhere in there. You | :39:20. | :39:25.
know, am the improvements in the game, I thought our blitz defence | :39:26. | :39:30.
was up and stop. We he had into the confidence to follow right through | :39:31. | :39:33.
on what we are trying to do. It was good against France but today we | :39:34. | :39:37.
were but today we were stopping as if we were scared of what was in | :39:38. | :39:41.
front of us. England are a very, very good side. We didn't play well | :39:42. | :39:48.
and we lost by 11 where seven was a disaster in the fourth minute. We | :39:49. | :39:52.
are not a million miles away. At the end of the day I think our skill | :39:53. | :39:58.
levels were off today. If you pick better players who don't make as | :39:59. | :40:02.
many errors, you play better. I think the props will be an | :40:03. | :40:05.
interesting selection. Will he give the youngsters an opportunity? But | :40:06. | :40:08.
