Super Saturday - a thrilling climax to an exhilarating season. There was | :00:16. | :00:23.
something to play for in every game. Could the Ospreys claim their place | :00:24. | :00:28.
at Europe's top table? Would the Scarlets have what it took to make | :00:29. | :00:33.
the play-offs? Six games - more than 40 tries. | :00:34. | :00:48.
How did your team perform on Super Saturday? Good evening. Welcome to | :00:49. | :00:56.
the programme. We did have an exciting toned the Pro12 season. | :00:57. | :01:01.
Martin Williams was here yesterday as the league table swapped and | :01:02. | :01:07.
changed. Gwn Jones is with us. I will bring you the latest from | :01:08. | :01:14.
various leagues and I have been to Bedlinog RFC. Two of our regions had | :01:15. | :01:19.
something to play for yesterday. The Scarlets going for the semi-final | :01:20. | :01:22.
spot and the Ospreys hoping to qualify for Europe. Two of them had | :01:23. | :01:25.
one last shot at it. Scarlets need to gain one more than | :01:26. | :01:37.
Ulster. What the Ospreys need to do is win. Ulster must do no worse than | :01:38. | :01:42.
the Scarlets in Limerick. The first opportunity to get some of | :01:43. | :01:56.
this early Scarlets pressure to translate into points. No problem at | :01:57. | :01:58.
all. A beautiful kick through. | :01:59. | :02:15.
Saili has spotted the gap. He will go under the post completely. | :02:16. | :02:23.
He spotted that was on. It is a good try. | :02:24. | :02:30.
Williams bursts through a tackle. Support from Shingler. Parkes gets | :02:31. | :02:41.
it to Evans, who will seal a deal in the corner. This, I have got a | :02:42. | :02:45.
feeling, will be something of an exciting afternoon. | :02:46. | :02:55.
It did look a little forward on that... It has gone forward out of | :02:56. | :03:01.
the hands. Back inside to Paddy Jackson. This | :03:02. | :03:34.
is where they scored their first try from, this situation. | :03:35. | :03:39.
Pienaar using the left-hand side. Best is over. | :03:40. | :03:46.
And once again they have to question the Ospreys close quarter defence. | :03:47. | :03:54.
Solid defence so far. There's a lot of Scarlet players sucked in around | :03:55. | :03:59.
the fringeses. They keep on coming. There it is. It was an easy wriggle. | :04:00. | :04:13.
There is a time for Ospreys to take a lead into half time. 14-12 is | :04:14. | :04:17.
reflection of where Scarlets have been in this game. Game on a knife | :04:18. | :04:22.
edge at the moment. The Ospreys have got it again. There is the line... | :04:23. | :04:29.
Webb fails to come to this blindside and takes it on his own. Smith | :04:30. | :04:35.
acting as the emergency scrum-half. Matavesi and he's there. Josh | :04:36. | :04:41.
Matavesi and the Ospreys are rewarded for their persistence. | :04:42. | :04:49.
Webb with a dink over the top. Trimble takes it. Trimble's ahead. | :04:50. | :04:57.
Trimble got a boost. Incredibly he's into the 22. Can Webb catch him? Out | :04:58. | :05:05.
of the blue Andrew Trimble and that is an absolute hammer blow for the | :05:06. | :05:08.
Ospreys so close to half time. That was well played. | :05:09. | :05:30.
I don't think Parkes was expecting that. | :05:31. | :05:37.
O'Mahony, and if the Scarlets cannot do it for themselves they are doing | :05:38. | :05:42.
it for Munster. It would be hard enough to imagine the rugby without | :05:43. | :05:50.
not having a try at some point. That's a try. | :05:51. | :05:57.
Oh, he's going to go... Way over... That was the easiest try. Scannell's | :05:58. | :06:02.
second of the day. It gives you an indication of how tired and how long | :06:03. | :06:06.
this season has been for the Scarlets. | :06:07. | :06:13.
And now it is the Ospreys having to defend on their own line. The | :06:14. | :06:20.
Ospreys have at least got the possession. | :06:21. | :06:26.
In goes Chris Henry... They have been their own worst enemies at the | :06:27. | :06:31.
moment, Ospreys. Just before half time that try from Ulster, superb | :06:32. | :06:40.
today. Sam Davis, up to the 22. Grabham to the corner. Did he get | :06:41. | :06:46.
the ball down? He's all right there. That's a great finish. Pienaar takes | :06:47. | :06:55.
it... He is looking for the wrap around. Golding. How easy was that? | :06:56. | :07:04.
It was Madame Tussaud's defence which the Ospreys. Ospreys not | :07:05. | :07:12.
giving up yet. Sam Davis and here is Grabham with the walk-in. A second | :07:13. | :07:19.
try for the Ospreys from Grabham and a bonus point as well. | :07:20. | :07:30.
Still the Ulster forwards twant to get involved as well. -- want to get | :07:31. | :07:41.
involved as well. And here's Franco Van Der Merwe. | :07:42. | :07:50.
The Ospreys mistakes today have handed Ulster this on a plate. Their | :07:51. | :08:02.
European Cup hopes are gone. 31-15, the Scarlets have been | :08:03. | :08:06.
defeated and the Scarlets find themselves out of the play-offs, but | :08:07. | :08:11.
they are in the champion's Cup. The season is over. | :08:12. | :08:15.
Two disappointing defeats for the Scarlets and the Ospreys on the | :08:16. | :08:21.
final day of the regular season and that defeat meant the Scarlets' | :08:22. | :08:25.
result was academic in terms of getting into the top four. We start | :08:26. | :08:31.
with the Ospreys. 13 years of regional rugby they will not be in | :08:32. | :08:35.
the champion's Cup. That will hurt, wobt it? -- won't it? As players | :08:36. | :08:44.
when you know champion's Cups games and the Challenge Cup is not the | :08:45. | :08:48.
same. Dan Biggar and Dan Webb who thrive | :08:49. | :08:53.
on the big matches they will not be in them in the Champion's Cup. When | :08:54. | :09:00.
you look at Clare month and bore due, to come one game of getting the | :09:01. | :09:04.
Cup they punched above their weight there. However you try and, you | :09:05. | :09:12.
know, paper over the cracks, it is a disappointment not to be in the top | :09:13. | :09:16.
six. Is it as big a deal as a lot are making it out to be. They can | :09:17. | :09:22.
win the Challenge Cup. The money Ospreys get is the same in both | :09:23. | :09:26.
tournaments. If you think of the teams they may be up against, maybe | :09:27. | :09:34.
Bath or Gloucester, they are good Anglo--Welsh Derbies which will | :09:35. | :09:39.
bring people to the gates. Selling the Ospreys commercially at the top | :09:40. | :09:43.
table of European matches as they have been. Apart from this season | :09:44. | :09:47.
they have not made much of an impact in Europe in the champion's Cup for | :09:48. | :09:52.
some time, really. And certainly not, we talked about, what is this | :09:53. | :09:57.
their year? Will they win it? They haven't. They are in a competition | :09:58. | :10:02.
where some of the other sides may not put a lot of priority to it | :10:03. | :10:06.
initially. Once they get through, who knows, they might be able to win | :10:07. | :10:12.
it. Financially they don't do it. We talked about whether this might stop | :10:13. | :10:17.
some big flames coming to the club because they are not involved in | :10:18. | :10:20.
European matches. I don't think it is a big consideration. Most of the | :10:21. | :10:24.
guys will come over to play in Europe. You don't think this, | :10:25. | :10:30.
Martin, will necessarily halt their recruitment charges - people will | :10:31. | :10:35.
they are not on the European Cup, I don't want to go there? One or two | :10:36. | :10:39.
might get picked up over the summer. Most of the deals are done before | :10:40. | :10:43.
Christmas or just after Christmas for next year. For me, I think the | :10:44. | :10:49.
Ospreys, this is just a blip. They start of the season - it killed | :10:50. | :10:53.
them, they have been chasing the season ever since. We know with the | :10:54. | :10:58.
Ospreys, when they have all their stars playing they are one of the | :10:59. | :11:03.
best sides in the league. It is a blow to the ego and Motoationally it | :11:04. | :11:09.
will be difficult. Do they really go for the Challenge | :11:10. | :11:15.
Cup or do they concentrate in getting into the top six in the | :11:16. | :11:18.
league? Welsh regions don't have the squads big enough to try and compete | :11:19. | :11:23.
in both. I think it is a bit of a myth that we are signing players | :11:24. | :11:28.
which might help our region become European champions. We are nowhere | :11:29. | :11:32.
near that. When you look at the likes of foreign players we do sign, | :11:33. | :11:38.
I don't think they come to win the Heineken Cup to the Ospreys, they | :11:39. | :11:40.
came because they had an opportunity to play. They are fine players and | :11:41. | :11:47.
wanted to better themselves. It was not Conrad Smith you play to get you | :11:48. | :11:51.
over the match. You look across the Pro12 and there are a very few top | :11:52. | :11:59.
quality international stars. Just finished the World Cup over being | :12:00. | :12:02.
tempted to play in our league. It is a problem for Wales. We are not | :12:03. | :12:06.
going for the high echelon of stars anyway. I don't think it will make | :12:07. | :12:11.
any impact to their recruitment. What of the Scarlets then? They are | :12:12. | :12:16.
the sole representatives in the Cup. It could have been more for them | :12:17. | :12:24.
this season? It is a glass half full way of looking ate it. -- looking at | :12:25. | :12:28.
it. Whether they would have gone on to | :12:29. | :12:32.
win, I don't know. Some good sides in that top four. When you look back | :12:33. | :12:36.
and probably the turning point of the season was the Ospreys game, you | :12:37. | :12:42.
think they have won at the Liberty, the first they have beaten the | :12:43. | :12:46.
Ospreys in I don't know how long. I backed them for a semi-final. Didn't | :12:47. | :12:51.
back it up, the week after the Blues games they got outplayed by the | :12:52. | :12:56.
Blues. It has been positive for the Scarlets up to the last two or three | :12:57. | :13:01.
weeks. I would be disappointed if I was the fans, supporters, management | :13:02. | :13:04.
they haven't got. Another game for the season left. | :13:05. | :13:11.
They have won a few with the last kick of the ball, but lost a few. | :13:12. | :13:17.
They have not looked dominant, then the wheels came off back row over | :13:18. | :13:22.
Christmas, they were stuffed by Glasgow and bounced back to some | :13:23. | :13:28.
extent, in some of the games, they beat the Ospreys at the Liberty | :13:29. | :13:32.
Stadium, but in crucial matches they were not at the races. They have | :13:33. | :13:37.
been inconsistent but far better than we expected to be and finished | :13:38. | :13:40.
top in the Welsh region. They would have been happy with that | :13:41. | :13:58.
at the start of the season but the league does not like, you sit where | :13:59. | :14:02.
you are because of the inconsistencies. If they had got | :14:03. | :14:04.
through to the last four, they would have beaten them anyway. They should | :14:05. | :14:07.
be pleased with their season. Other things have affected performances, | :14:08. | :14:09.
but Shane Williams said it is the worst season for regional rugby | :14:10. | :14:11.
since it began, would you go along with that? I would. The league table | :14:12. | :14:16.
does not lie. Statistics show, there were glimpses, I think the Ospreys | :14:17. | :14:20.
did well in the Champions Cup, the Dragons got to the semi-finals, but | :14:21. | :14:25.
all in all, to have one team in the Champions Cup, that is | :14:26. | :14:28.
disappointing, I would not argue with Shane, it probably is the worst | :14:29. | :14:33.
year of regional rugby since it began. The, we will have one team in | :14:34. | :14:42.
the World Cup, that when by Ulster over the Ospreys secured them a | :14:43. | :14:47.
semifinal spot, let us find out how the other top four contenders got | :14:48. | :14:56.
on. There was a battle between the top two sides as Galway were the | :14:57. | :15:01.
winners of this match securing that all-important home semifinal | :15:02. | :15:10.
play-off in a fortnight's time. 22-macro edging closer to the | :15:11. | :15:14.
Glasgow line. They have reset themselves -- Connacht. Try for | :15:15. | :15:22.
Connacht. Johnny Gray, the Glasgow captain | :15:23. | :15:33.
making those precious few extra yards. Try in sight for the Glasgow | :15:34. | :15:42.
Warriors. Whether they keep it tight, they keep it tight and the | :15:43. | :15:47.
loosehead bundles over, the equalising try for Glasgow, they are | :15:48. | :15:49.
back in the game. Muldowney in the middle of the | :15:50. | :16:02.
line-out. It is a bit of a melee, at that loose with the boot, Muldowney, | :16:03. | :16:09.
he recklessly comes through and the big tight head prop could be in | :16:10. | :16:16.
trouble. The referee left with no option there. Red card, Glasgow are | :16:17. | :16:26.
a mile down for this final half-hour. -- man. A close rumble, | :16:27. | :16:40.
it goes out to Shane O Leary, and that is tried for O'Halloran. -- a | :16:41. | :16:50.
try. Leinster went into this game knowing a bonus point win that could | :16:51. | :16:56.
be enough to guarantee them a home semifinal while Treviso needed a win | :16:57. | :16:59.
to secure the only Italian spot in the Champions Cup. The parish ran | :17:00. | :17:03.
away with the full five points, Johnny Sexton crossing for the first | :17:04. | :17:09.
of three tries as they took a lead at half-time. Leinster secured the | :17:10. | :17:13.
bonus point before the Italians even got on the scoreboard as they were | :17:14. | :17:20.
blown away by the Irish, Ringrose ran in the final try. A | :17:21. | :17:26.
comprehensive win for Leinster. An interesting one between Glasgow and | :17:27. | :17:30.
Connacht. The rise of Connacht has been remarkable and all season, some | :17:31. | :17:35.
of the more cynical spectators have expected them to drop down the | :17:36. | :17:39.
table. What do you tribute their form to? It is like the Leicester | :17:40. | :17:45.
City story. A combination of things, the World Cup played a part, they do | :17:46. | :17:50.
not lose so many players. The fact they have this unique ground, a | :17:51. | :17:55.
howling gale every time they play, requires a different attitude and | :17:56. | :18:00.
they are used to that. They have an innovative coach, they recruited | :18:01. | :18:08.
strategically well in certain positions. They have developed well, | :18:09. | :18:10.
Henshaw is one of their own products. The way they play, when | :18:11. | :18:14.
you look at the statistics, they passed the ball more than anyone, | :18:15. | :18:19.
kept the ball, recycled the ball, perhaps a product of plane into the | :18:20. | :18:22.
wind a lot, they gained confidence, they play, keep the ball in hand and | :18:23. | :18:28.
they have beaten the Glasgow in a game they wanted to win and that | :18:29. | :18:34.
shows how far they have come. Glasgow are almost the opposite, | :18:35. | :18:37.
they lost two players to the World Cup and in the Six Nations, Glasgow | :18:38. | :18:42.
on the other hand lose more players than any team in the lake and they | :18:43. | :18:46.
suffered during the international periods, but they have the class to | :18:47. | :18:52.
search, the won nine games in a row. They are a quality outfit. What | :18:53. | :19:06.
helps Glasgow, there are only two teams in Scotland, all resources are | :19:07. | :19:08.
pumped their way. They recruited smartly, some real gems. That is the | :19:09. | :19:13.
frustrating thing, when you look at the team sheet of Connacht and | :19:14. | :19:17.
Glasgow compared to the Scarlets or the Ospreys or Cardiff Blues, the | :19:18. | :19:22.
players are not better, so that is frustrating for the fans, why are | :19:23. | :19:26.
the regions not getting to the heights of Glasgow and Connacht. The | :19:27. | :19:31.
World Cup has helped Connacht. I think Glasgow, they are quality | :19:32. | :19:40.
outfit. It is baffling, Glasgow have won so many against Wales | :19:41. | :19:43.
opposition. The top four-week know has been settled, who will win it? I | :19:44. | :19:49.
think Glasgow are the best side and on a surge. We will see. Ulster | :19:50. | :19:57.
looked pretty good yesterday, a quality game against the Ospreys. | :19:58. | :20:03.
They will fancy it. It is open but I will put my pound for what it is | :20:04. | :20:08.
worth of Glasgow. I said Leinster and I will stick with them. They | :20:09. | :20:14.
have a lot of experience. Home semifinal against Ulster, I think | :20:15. | :20:19.
Leinster. The Blues and the Dragons had nothing to play for yesterday | :20:20. | :20:22.
but you can be sure that both wanted to end their campaigns with a | :20:23. | :20:24.
victory. Edinburgh needed a win to stand any | :20:25. | :20:35.
chance of qualifying for the Champions Cup and enjoyed an early | :20:36. | :20:37.
lead before the Blues took control. Ember are trying desperately to keep | :20:38. | :20:48.
it on the field of play, they have done that through Watson. He has | :20:49. | :20:55.
done well. Driven on, on the fringes. By the big men up front. | :20:56. | :21:06.
Again the return ball. Lovely off-load to Watson. It is first | :21:07. | :21:19.
blood to Edinburgh. Out from the base, as they line up out wide. He | :21:20. | :21:27.
is dangerous with his feet. The gaps appear and it easy duck down for the | :21:28. | :21:39.
Scottish international Matt Scott. Am scum, allowed on the far side. -- | :21:40. | :21:53.
Anscombe. The first try for the Blues. Again they win back | :21:54. | :22:00.
possession, this could be awkward. It is going to be a try. It is Tom | :22:01. | :22:12.
Brown who has got the touchdown. As to the far side, Anscombe is well | :22:13. | :22:20.
marshalled. He did well to get it back to 38. Straight through, the | :22:21. | :22:33.
Blues. -- Lee-Lo. Dolan gets the all important touchdown. He stretches | :22:34. | :22:45.
his legs, streaming through, he is on the inside bowl, it has not gone | :22:46. | :22:47.
forward. Smith goes over. With nine consecutive Pro12 12 | :22:48. | :23:05.
defeats, Dragons had seven changes. They travelled to bottom of the | :23:06. | :23:09.
table 75 back row. The Welsh region looking to end on a positive note | :23:10. | :23:14.
that the Italians had it all to play for -- Zebre. The visitors took an | :23:15. | :23:24.
early lead but the home side hit back as Van Zyl crossed for the | :23:25. | :23:30.
second converted try of the day. Down at half-time, the coach rang in | :23:31. | :23:39.
the changes for the Dragons. 30 six crossed for the first try for the | :23:40. | :23:43.
Dragons. The Italians then showed that they were able to play with | :23:44. | :23:57.
flair and freedom -- Landman. Five conversions and four penalties. | :23:58. | :24:07.
There was more to come from Zebre as 29-macro ran in their fifth try. | :24:08. | :24:21.
Landman got his second try -- Haimona. No Welsh region has made it | :24:22. | :24:26.
to the semi-finals this year. The other three will compete in the | :24:27. | :24:30.
Challenge Cup next season. Leinster will be home to Ulster on the 20th | :24:31. | :24:41.
of May,. Pretty depressing afternoon for the Dragons. They have now lost | :24:42. | :24:51.
their last ten Pro12 12 games in a row. How can they go from coming | :24:52. | :24:58.
within ten points of a team like a Montpelier to that? That was a sign | :24:59. | :25:02.
that they were not at their strongest. They put all their effort | :25:03. | :25:06.
into the four games prior to this, this was an end of term atmosphere. | :25:07. | :25:12.
Some of them were already on the beach. These things happen from time | :25:13. | :25:17.
to time, that was hugely disappointing. There was a lot going | :25:18. | :25:21.
on in the region at the moment. Perhaps they took their eye from the | :25:22. | :25:26.
ball. That is disappointing to end the season like that. Kingsley Jones | :25:27. | :25:36.
is in temporary charge, there has been some calls perhaps for Nigel | :25:37. | :25:41.
Davies to come in as director of rugby. He knows the region, is that | :25:42. | :25:45.
the right kind of appointment for you? I am not sure. The Blues did | :25:46. | :25:53.
that with Danny Wilson, the cost had done it, I would see a young guy | :25:54. | :26:03.
given the role, they cannot afford a big-name, just to shake it up, come | :26:04. | :26:08.
from the outside, an Australian or someone from New Zealand to shake | :26:09. | :26:12.
the place up and give them a lift, it is a difficult period for the | :26:13. | :26:19.
Dragons, they need to make a decision. He would probably want to | :26:20. | :26:22.
bring in his own coaching team, the board at the Dragons have to make | :26:23. | :26:27.
that decision. What about the Blues? It was a bizarre game. And Brown | :26:28. | :26:35.
were totally dominant. The Blues just surged back in -- Edinburgh. | :26:36. | :26:48.
They could have rolled over. They did not show great character. It was | :26:49. | :26:54.
a really positive end to what has been a positive end to the season, | :26:55. | :26:58.
since Christmas, they have turned a corner, gone from winning five games | :26:59. | :27:03.
last season to winning 11 this year, a huge improvement for Danny Wilson. | :27:04. | :27:07.
Exciting times for the Blues, they recruited well for next season. For | :27:08. | :27:13.
once, in a long time, they're making good strides. One thing that is | :27:14. | :27:19.
functioning well is their attack, only Glasgow have scored more tries. | :27:20. | :27:24.
Their defence, still a bit soft around the fringes, is that what | :27:25. | :27:29.
they need to work on? I am sure they will. Danny is a details man. Gethin | :27:30. | :27:36.
does some defensive work with them and he is a hard task masters. They | :27:37. | :27:44.
will do something. -- taskmaster. The extra leadership role, some of | :27:45. | :27:47.
the senior professionals are probably taking that on this season | :27:48. | :27:50.
and that is probably because they believe in the coach and can see a | :27:51. | :27:55.
way forward where is in the last few years, the international players | :27:56. | :27:58.
have said we will play with the Blues but we are not invested | :27:59. | :28:02.
emotionally. Now you can see these guys wanting to make a difference. | :28:03. | :28:13.
If your best players are doing that, it is only good for the rest of the | :28:14. | :28:17.
youngsters coming through and it gives a sense of purpose for | :28:18. | :28:19.
everyone when they are training and playing. | :28:20. | :28:29.
It's, with all due respect Zebre will not make any impact in the | :28:30. | :28:38.
champion's Cup next year at all. People might argue the Scarlets | :28:39. | :28:43.
didn't. If one is finishing seventh and the other 11th and they get in | :28:44. | :28:47.
above you, it doesn't seem right at all. We will talk about Wales and | :28:48. | :28:52.
the looming tour to New Zealand in a few moments. News of a very special | :28:53. | :28:59.
mascot. You may have noticed that Leicester City, nicknamed the Foxes | :29:00. | :29:03.
have been in the news, following their remarkable season, winning | :29:04. | :29:08.
football's Premier League, motivated by their popular manager. There is a | :29:09. | :29:14.
Welsh rugby club known as the Foxes, who have had the season of their | :29:15. | :29:19.
lives, but their team talks are done by an unexpected member of the club. | :29:20. | :29:22.
Yesterday, I went along to meet them. | :29:23. | :29:33.
Hi Hi, here sits the village of Bedlinog. Many believe it means the | :29:34. | :29:40.
fox's grave and the team's name is the "Foxes. It was founded in 1971. | :29:41. | :29:45.
Since then they have made their way up the various leagues. Now in | :29:46. | :29:51.
Division One, they are this champion's. Last week they won the | :29:52. | :30:02.
Swalec Cup with a last gasp kick. Liam Jones has done it. Bedlinog are | :30:03. | :30:09.
the champions. One person celebrating the win was | :30:10. | :30:17.
six-year-old Rhys Jones who delivers the prematch talks and his dad is | :30:18. | :30:22.
the back coach. Tell me how the season has gone for them? Quite | :30:23. | :30:28.
good. They are winning lots of games. Will you be a Bedlinog player | :30:29. | :30:35.
in the future? Yes. I think you will be the captain, I am sure. What will | :30:36. | :30:43.
you tell them this afternoon? We can just win. | :30:44. | :30:50.
Pass then run. Whoever is last and score a try, because you are | :30:51. | :30:53.
powerful. Those at the back. | :30:54. | :30:58.
Squeeze them through. One, two, three... Squeeze. | :30:59. | :31:12.
They will play in the final of the Glamorgan golden ball. Today they | :31:13. | :31:16.
face Leicester. Why do you think Bedlinog and the players are so | :31:17. | :31:19.
willing to play for this club? What makes it special? It is the village | :31:20. | :31:25.
itself and that sort of gives the players something extra, I think. We | :31:26. | :31:29.
have players from all over the borough playing for us. It is not | :31:30. | :31:34.
just Bedlinog players. They have come aboard - part of the family, | :31:35. | :31:38.
the bonding and the way they play together on the field and how they | :31:39. | :31:41.
react together off the field as well. Winners of the division or | :31:42. | :31:48.
not, they were not letting the Foxes have it their own way. You must be a | :31:49. | :31:52.
happy coach when you look at what you have achieved? We have probably | :31:53. | :31:58.
picked the worse day to play. We look tired, but take it, if we win | :31:59. | :32:03.
today it is an open Derby and cap the season off with a win. Hero of | :32:04. | :32:09.
last weekend Liam Jones took the foxed back in the lead on the stroke | :32:10. | :32:13.
of half time. We have come from division seven all the way to | :32:14. | :32:17.
Division One and we're in the championship, which is every club's | :32:18. | :32:22.
dream. In a village of less than 3,000 people it is a massive | :32:23. | :32:26.
achievement. People said we couldn't go to the | :32:27. | :32:30.
championship at the beginning of last year, I knew with the squad of | :32:31. | :32:34.
players we had w the experience, we were good enough to get there all | :32:35. | :32:38.
day long. We will do well in the championship next year. I think we | :32:39. | :32:42.
can compete at that level - no problem at all. He's a team mascot | :32:43. | :32:47.
every game. First nt the shower every game, last | :32:48. | :32:51.
out of the shower. He comes on half time. He has Fa cakes, he goes | :32:52. | :33:00.
around the supporters selling them. Three penalties had taken Nelson | :33:01. | :33:04.
into the lead and then the Foxes drags themselves back to even the | :33:05. | :33:10.
score. Liam Jones had a chance to snatch an unexpected victory. Local | :33:11. | :33:17.
bragging rights - and time to celebrate being champions of the | :33:18. | :33:23.
league. A squeeze... One, two, three... | :33:24. | :33:31.
Thank you for the warm welcome we had at Bedlinog RFC and to the | :33:32. | :33:35.
President for giving me one of the club's badges. Congratulations on | :33:36. | :33:39.
securing promotion to the championship and as well to the | :33:40. | :33:48.
Swalec other teams. Now to the Principality and the semi-final | :33:49. | :33:55.
kicked off between the Swalec Cup winners Landovery and Ebbw Vale. | :33:56. | :34:03.
And this is catch and kinds territory. It is the lineout and it | :34:04. | :34:08.
is Ronnie Kinds in the back steering. In his words they put all | :34:09. | :34:13.
the ugly ones at the front to push and he will get the glory again. | :34:14. | :34:25.
He's done it for Ebbw Vale. Maynard's exit taken by Dan Heyman. | :34:26. | :34:35.
That is an outrageous by Heyman. He has support from Rosser. What a | :34:36. | :34:37.
score. Luke Lewis, taken by grif grif. | :34:38. | :34:53.
-- Griffiths. Miles has broken off and the flanker | :34:54. | :35:00.
has sneaked over, on the blind. Waddle. Can he make the line? Is he | :35:01. | :35:05.
held up? That would have been a miraculous | :35:06. | :35:10.
tackle if he could have pulled that off. Let's look. He wrapped himself | :35:11. | :35:18.
around and under and that's no try. Miles scored one from a similar | :35:19. | :35:22.
situation. And there's plenty of bump and grind | :35:23. | :35:26.
from Landovery for this one and they are over as well. | :35:27. | :35:36.
That's it. Ebbw Vale are in the final. | :35:37. | :35:43.
And Ebbw Vale will meet Pontypridd next Sunday. And | :35:44. | :36:03.
Well, Martin, you will be there - Ebbw Vale the visitors against | :36:04. | :36:11.
Pontypridd, how do you see that going? Pontypridd will be | :36:12. | :36:15.
disapointeded they didn't get to the cup final. It takes an effort to go | :36:16. | :36:19.
there and beat them. They have won the last four seasons. This will be | :36:20. | :36:25.
the fifth season in the row. Ebbw Vale have done brilliant the last | :36:26. | :36:28.
two seasons. They will be partying up there. | :36:29. | :36:32.
Enjoy it. We will look forward it to. A couple of extra bits of news | :36:33. | :36:39.
to you and good luck to Mike Phillips who announced he will play | :36:40. | :36:43.
with Sale Sharks in England next season. And many, many | :36:44. | :36:49.
congratulations to Derek Bevan on a remarkable career which came to an | :36:50. | :36:53.
end yesterday. We all wish you a very, very happy retirement. | :36:54. | :36:58.
Congratulations to Derek and to Mike as well. What a legend Bevan is. Now | :36:59. | :37:07.
the tour to New Zealand is looming. Warren Gatland wicks his squad this | :37:08. | :37:10.
week. It -- picks his squad this week. We went to meet one of the | :37:11. | :37:16.
quieter members of the Welsh squad. Some players have a habit of going | :37:17. | :37:20.
unnoticed. This guy has played more than 130 | :37:21. | :37:25.
times for his region, but has always avoided the glare of publicity. | :37:26. | :37:30.
# Who are you # Who, who, who | :37:31. | :37:36.
# Who are you... A fixture in the Welsh squad since 2013 he can play | :37:37. | :37:44.
anywhere in the back pack. He will be on the plane to New Zealand next | :37:45. | :37:47.
month. James, it seems you have been around | :37:48. | :37:52.
for quite some time now. Still your profile is fairly low. You are kind | :37:53. | :37:58.
of under the radar. If you google James King you get a picture of a | :37:59. | :38:06.
female model. Is that how you like - to be out of the radar? . I e-Ied | :38:07. | :38:14.
about 103 games. I am happy to -- I played about 103 games. Born in | :38:15. | :38:19.
Australia, English parents - you were eligible before you played test | :38:20. | :38:24.
rugby for all three countries. Was there a danger you would pick any of | :38:25. | :38:29.
the other two? I consider myself Wales. My schooling was done in | :38:30. | :38:34.
North Wales. All my rugby was in the North Wales as well. I went to | :38:35. | :38:40.
school in Ellesmere. There was another sport you were interested in | :38:41. | :38:44.
before? I used to be a keen tennis player. I went quite far with that. | :38:45. | :38:53.
. Talking about playing rugby with my friends and we went to mould | :38:54. | :38:58.
rugby club. Something told me your mode of transport for the first year | :38:59. | :39:03.
was a moped. It is true. I was living with Johnnie and I didn't | :39:04. | :39:08.
have a way to get to training and didn't think of the logistics none | :39:09. | :39:14.
of us had a driving licence. I had a scooter which got stolen three | :39:15. | :39:18.
times. Not just by random people, I found it in the skip one day. | :39:19. | :39:24.
Judgment day, you mention a fantastic occasion - a hum dinninger | :39:25. | :39:28.
of a game and you walked away with the Man of the Match award? It was | :39:29. | :39:32.
nice to get it. To get that was special for me. You talked about the | :39:33. | :39:37.
length and time being in the Ospreys, it is a highly competitive | :39:38. | :39:40.
environment, you look at the back row. You have mentioned Olly | :39:41. | :39:50.
Cracknell, Liddiate and your good self, does that inspire you to great | :39:51. | :39:54.
heights, or do you think sometimes I wish there were not so many guys | :39:55. | :40:00.
competing for the same shirt? In the academy we signed a new back rower | :40:01. | :40:04.
every week. It keeps you on our toes. You can never rest. We have | :40:05. | :40:12.
Under hill and Cracknell they have had Man of the Match awards | :40:13. | :40:18.
themselves. They had a conversation and said how old are you? There was | :40:19. | :40:23.
nearly 20 years between them. It shows whatever age people are there | :40:24. | :40:27.
are people pushing behind you. You can never take your foot off the | :40:28. | :40:31.
burner, because you have to train the next day and you won't be | :40:32. | :40:34.
picked. There is something looming on the | :40:35. | :40:40.
near horizon - a tour to ne Zealand, the double world champions, Jamie | :40:41. | :40:44.
Roberts was on Scrum V the other week and he said it is a tour you | :40:45. | :40:49.
approach with excitement and trepidation. Is that how you feel | :40:50. | :40:53.
about it? To be picked Vy for the league. If I go on that tour it is a | :40:54. | :41:00.
tour of a lifetime. We have come painstakingly close to beating the | :41:01. | :41:04.
All Blacks a few times. If we won a test out there I think the whole of | :41:05. | :41:09.
Wales would go and party or a bank holiday would be made. To win a test | :41:10. | :41:14.
out there would be brilliant. I have taken the liberty to speak to a | :41:15. | :41:17.
couple of your team-mates and asked them to describe you in one word. | :41:18. | :41:23.
The word which came up the most was "tiethd." I would say -- was | :41:24. | :41:31.
"tight." I would say careful. Once you pig by backed on your | :41:32. | :41:35.
neighbour's Internet for a couple of months before they found out. I | :41:36. | :41:39.
moved in, they had a password on it and they didn't change their admin | :41:40. | :41:47.
password. Their router went down and I restarted it and took the liberty | :41:48. | :41:53.
until I got my installed. Keen to dispel the rumours of being tight | :41:54. | :41:57.
with his cash, once the interview was over James insisted on taking me | :41:58. | :41:59.
for a coffee. Thank you very much. Excuse me, mate, James is going to | :42:00. | :42:16.
take care of that. Unbelievable! He did pay, really. Those rumours | :42:17. | :42:21.
are harsh and unfonded. A top bloke. Very much under the radar and we | :42:22. | :42:26.
talked about his versatility as well. He plays anywhere in the back | :42:27. | :42:33.
five. Is that a bonus or a handicap? In his case it has given him the | :42:34. | :42:37.
opportunity to be on benches and squads. If you are going to be a | :42:38. | :42:41.
starting player in a Test match in the starting or second row, you have | :42:42. | :42:44.
to have something about you in which you impact the game. You stro be a | :42:45. | :42:53.
good carrier, have to bring something unique. He's very | :42:54. | :42:57.
consistent. He's the modern professional. Extremely fit, well | :42:58. | :43:01.
prepared and dedicated. To make that extra step to be a regular starter | :43:02. | :43:05.
he's got to have something about him and I think he probably lacks that. | :43:06. | :43:10.
Back row is where there's one vacancy. We know Jason Tiperick will | :43:11. | :43:16.
not be there. What's no pole position? | :43:17. | :43:27.
It is a toss-up between Jenkins and Davis. Jenkins had a fantastic end | :43:28. | :43:36.
of season. He is a similar player to Sam Warburton. I would give James | :43:37. | :43:42.
Davies a go. Over a 12 month period he has been so consistent, brings | :43:43. | :43:48.
more of an attacking threat and he deserves to be in that 37 man squad | :43:49. | :43:55.
for that side. Another one who I was impressed with was Rory Cracknell. | :43:56. | :44:06.
Ross Moriarty was superb, but Cracknell looks like a real find. A | :44:07. | :44:10.
lot of options in the back row, some headaches for Warren Gatland. We | :44:11. | :44:15.
looked at the squad earlier, and you cannot see many coming or going | :44:16. | :44:19.
really. Scott Williams would come in if he is fit, they will tinker with | :44:20. | :44:26.
a few others, the wing looks a little bit weak, not sure who will | :44:27. | :44:30.
play there, whether Leigh Halfpenny will be there, we do not know. I do | :44:31. | :44:36.
not think there will be any great surprises, no one can really think | :44:37. | :44:41.
at the moment. I personally like Sam Davies, I think he is the best | :44:42. | :44:47.
attacking ten in Wales, he puts it through the hands beautifully. Who | :44:48. | :44:52.
should go? I do not think he will go, but if we could take three | :44:53. | :44:58.
terms, one eye on the future, he would be someone I would seriously | :44:59. | :45:02.
consider. Briefly, this England game coming up, for many people, and | :45:03. | :45:07.
unnecessary game, but given that none of the regions got through to | :45:08. | :45:11.
the latter stages of the Pro12 12, it is essential. Mixed feelings. | :45:12. | :45:17.
Wales against England is special. I did not agree with that, but when | :45:18. | :45:22.
you look at it, if that game was not there, most of the Welsh players | :45:23. | :45:26.
would have to wait five weeks and hit the field running against New | :45:27. | :45:37.
Zealand. That England game has become very important for Warren | :45:38. | :45:39.
Gatland and his team. I think you should go for the strongest team, | :45:40. | :45:42.
the last few years, the first test on any tour we have struggled. If we | :45:43. | :45:45.
can use that game as part of the tour really and field are strongest | :45:46. | :45:51.
15... England are missing players. If Saracens are playing the day | :45:52. | :45:56.
before, half their pack is missing and we can go to Twickenham and then | :45:57. | :46:01.
face New Zealand with confidence. That is all we have got time for, | :46:02. | :46:06.
thank you to my guests and it is the final weekend of the road 12 | :46:07. | :46:11.
regular-season and unfortunately it is the final weekend for the Welsh | :46:12. | :46:15.
regions and this is a good time to look back at the best bets. Good | :46:16. | :46:23.
night. Top of the props, built for comfort and speed and that is where | :46:24. | :46:33.
else is Megan York. There was Pete the meat dishing out a dummy and the | :46:34. | :46:41.
delicious de Vrij gain. Clubman of the year, he replayed every minute | :46:42. | :46:49.
of every game. As for superstars, Stuart Hogg the limelight for | :46:50. | :46:57.
Glasgow. Can he get the bounce? N! This man had at night for scoring | :46:58. | :47:03.
tries. He is like stretch Armstrong and Inspector Gadget rolled into | :47:04. | :47:15.
one. Bundy jumped into the picture. For the magic moments, there was | :47:16. | :47:25.
marvellous Matavesi. Bernardo. Regal Regan. He was like a father to one | :47:26. | :47:33.
young Scarlett. Talk about defensive... Is that a difficult | :47:34. | :47:37.
line to straddle the then made on the one hand and someone's boss on | :47:38. | :47:44.
