It is a three on one. Steffan Evans | 0:00:26 | 0:00:34

everything this game. It has been a

The hoodoo continue, that was our
13th consecutive defeat but there | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
are reasons to be cheer 68 We are
back in the club and we have a very | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
special panel for you this evening.
Please welcome, Jonathan Davies. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:27
Peter Jackson. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:37
A packed house, as always. Bridgend
sports under 16s. The Rhondda women | 0:01:39 | 0:01:44
are in the house and so too the
wanderers under 18s. And there is | 0:01:44 | 0:01:50
more, will you please welcome, Mr
Shaun Holly. And lock up everybody | 0:01:50 | 0:02:00
it is Andy Powell. From the women's
Barbarians... So many guest, shall | 0:02:00 | 0:02:08
we get the panel out. Maybe we
should. Come on in boys. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:15
Welcome gentlemen, James I have to
be honest I am getting sick of this, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:39
welcoming you in after another
Wallabies Vicks tri. You are not a | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
smug Australia, you are gripping
from ear to workers you must be | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
delighted. I thought it was a good
Test match from both teams. A great | 0:02:46 | 0:02:52
result for the Aussie, starts our
tour off and we head off to | 0:02:52 | 0:02:59
Twickenham to play the English.
Another defeat, we will say it | 0:02:59 | 0:03:04
again, A few reasons to be cheerful.
I thought it was a great Test match. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
We tried to change things a bit.
They create a lot of opportunities | 0:03:08 | 0:03:14
and it was enjoyable, unfortunately.
We were on the end of a 38-2 | 0:03:14 | 0:03:22
spanking last year. This does feel
like progress by comparison. It | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
does. I think it was clearly
different, we are obviously trying | 0:03:26 | 0:03:30
to change. But then, I reflected on
it later and thought, lots of good | 0:03:30 | 0:03:38
things happened. We were different,
trying to get the ball wider, when | 0:03:38 | 0:03:42
you compare us to some performances
of the home nation, they are two | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
years ahead of us, they made this
change two years after the World | 0:03:46 | 0:03:49
Cup, we have been treading water for
two years and now we start to | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
change, we have two yearses of
catching up to do. I wonder why our | 0:03:52 | 0:03:56
coaching staff has allowed us to be
followers and not leaders. We were a | 0:03:56 | 0:04:00
long way to go in the short period
of time. That is an interesting | 0:04:00 | 0:04:04
point.
Peter, two years to go, until a | 0:04:04 | 0:04:09
World Cup, are we too late to the
party. It is certainly very late. I | 0:04:09 | 0:04:13
suppose you would say better late
than never. I mean I made my views | 0:04:13 | 0:04:18
clear a year ago, I believe the
Welsh made a mistake in allowing | 0:04:18 | 0:04:23
Warren Gatland to go on a Lions tour
when there was an overhaul to be | 0:04:23 | 0:04:29
done of the Wales team. It started
now, why wasn't this started 12 | 0:04:29 | 0:04:33
months ago? Steffan Evans should
have been playing for Wales during | 0:04:33 | 0:04:36
the last Six Nations and maybe had
he done so he might have learned the | 0:04:36 | 0:04:42
harsher realities and not made the
mistakes he's made yesterday. Having | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
said that I thought there was a lot
to admire what what Wales did. It is | 0:04:45 | 0:04:50
nice the see them running and
passing and rather going round | 0:04:50 | 0:04:53
people. I thought the most startling
statistic was a game with high tempo | 0:04:53 | 0:05:01
Wales only conceded three penalty f
you said that before, you would | 0:05:01 | 0:05:05
think, we are going to win this
game, but in the end, same old | 0:05:05 | 0:05:08
result, but it was certainly not the
same old performance. We will | 0:05:08 | 0:05:14
analyse that more in a few minutes
time. Let us remind ourself how it | 0:05:14 | 0:05:19
unfolded. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:20

Owen Williams. It is Faletau runs
into the brick wall of Kerevi. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:52
Advantage being played in Wales'
favour. Offside Australia. Biggar. | 0:05:52 | 0:05:56
Steffan Evans, coming off his wing,
looking for work. | 0:05:56 | 0:06:05
The crowd says it all. Wales take

Hooper.
Biggar tries to hold up the | 0:06:16 | 0:06:23
Australia captain. Polota-Nau now.
Ball with the tackle. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:27
Foley. Steffan Evans. Has to play
it. Has to take the ball out of | 0:06:27 | 0:06:36
play. That is a brilliant kick. | 0:06:36 | 0:06:43
The crowd says it all. Wales take
the lead. | 0:06:43 | 0:06:45
Hooper.
Biggar tries to hold up the | 0:06:45 | 0:06:46
Australia captain. Polota-Nau now.
Ball with the tackle. | 0:06:46 | 0:06:48
Foley. Steff Evans. Has to play it.
Has to take the ball out of play. | 0:06:48 | 0:06:51
That is a brilliant kick. Hanigan,
with the catch. Here comes the drive | 0:06:51 | 0:06:54
and Australia have a clear
advantage. Polota-Nau has the ball. | 0:06:54 | 0:06:56
They are over.
That was too easy from a Welsh | 0:06:56 | 0:07:01
perspective. It is Polota-Nau with
opening try of the game. | 0:07:01 | 0:07:06
Alun Wyn Jones. Gareth Davies and
Davies is off. Davies beats Hodgson. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:19
Wales pour into the ruck. Faletau
plays scrum-half. Jake Ball, good | 0:07:19 | 0:07:27
distribution, Jonathan Davies. Leigh
Halfpenny. Steff Evans, he is over, | 0:07:27 | 0:07:32
and grounds the ball.
A brilliant try by Wales. Good | 0:07:32 | 0:07:41
execution. That is what we wanted to
see. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:48 | |
Beale. | 0:07:52 | 0:07:57
Beale. Tackle on him by Faletau.
Foley. Puts one through. Halfpenny. | 0:07:57 | 0:08:04
Halfpenny plays football. It is
still in play. The wriggle for the | 0:08:04 | 0:08:14
line. Wales, defend desperately and
it is is there for Coleman to score. | 0:08:14 | 0:08:22
That was a brilliant piece of play.
Defensively Wales were magnificent. | 0:08:22 | 0:08:28
Watch this pass. Patience, patience,
and he just picks the runner, they | 0:08:28 | 0:08:33
go close, there you go, second man
in. Brilliant finish. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:40
Genia picks it back up and says I'm
not ready. | 0:08:43 | 0:08:47
Hanigan throws. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:52
Beale. There is an overlap. If
Hooper can find Hodgson. Hooper, is | 0:08:58 | 0:09:05
he short? Is he over? Try awarded.
Again brilliant finish. So, so | 0:09:05 | 0:09:12
clinical. That is a killer blow
before half-time. | 0:09:12 | 0:09:23
Switch of play Rob Evans. Faletau
gets the pass away, again the vital | 0:09:23 | 0:09:30
pass goes astray. Look at this. Prop
number eight, hooker on the outside. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:36
Inside ball Steff Evans is there in
support. They are trying to play a | 0:09:36 | 0:09:42
lovely blinder rugby.
Hasn't Rob Evans got good hands. | 0:09:42 | 0:09:52
Jonathan Davies in pursuit. Hodge
waits. Alun Wyn Jones and Jake Ball | 0:09:52 | 0:10:00
make the tackle, and turn the wing
over. Rob Evans risky one, Aaron | 0:10:00 | 0:10:06
Shingler back to Rob Evans.
Beautiful hands big bishop Steff | 0:10:06 | 0:10:09
Evans stays is on his feet. Navidi.
Halfpenny. And it is the safest | 0:10:09 | 0:10:17
hands on the feel, Taulupe Faletau
who drops the ball. | 0:10:17 | 0:10:24
Ken Owens. Rob Evans. Jonathan
Davies. | 0:10:24 | 0:10:29
Steff Evans back up on his feet.
Gets away from Foley. And from | 0:10:29 | 0:10:34
Kuridrani. What a tackle that is. He
is away. Beale comes away with it. | 0:10:34 | 0:10:39
Everybody went with the dummy ball
and Beale scores for Australia. | 0:10:39 | 0:10:44
I saw that straightaway, it was kind
of a rugby league steal. No-one knew | 0:10:44 | 0:10:50
a where the ball was except for two
men. | 0:10:50 | 0:11:01 | |
Does he knock it on? That is
brilliant play, Beale,. . The | 0:11:01 | 0:11:11
forwards lead through Faletau. Alun
Wyn Jones dives for the line. | 0:11:11 | 0:11:15
Think he has lost it. The referee in
Australia's direction. Playing the | 0:11:15 | 0:11:23
advantage. Australia in no rush,
knock-on by Wales, danger over. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:31
Out it comes. Navidi, advantage to
Wales. All this pressure, it just, | 0:11:31 | 0:11:37
like the World Cup game when they
were against 13, then 14, they | 0:11:37 | 0:11:41
couldn't score. Jonathan Davies, to
chase and pick up. Driven against | 0:11:41 | 0:11:45
the touchline. This will be
reviewed. The clock will stop. | 0:11:45 | 0:11:53
I am happy cheeps control of that
you can award the try. Try awarded. | 0:11:53 | 0:12:06
Yes, reminder | 0:12:06 | 0:12:07
you can award the try. Try awarded.
Yes, reminder there of the match, | 0:12:07 | 0:12:09
let us get the verdict now from both
camps. | 0:12:09 | 0:12:14
We are disappointed in terms of the
result, but you know, we talked | 0:12:14 | 0:12:20
about putting some new faces out
there, three new cap, three guys who | 0:12:20 | 0:12:25
had their first game at home, some
younger players, and I think that | 0:12:25 | 0:12:31
they will get bet refer that
experience. The boys are | 0:12:31 | 0:12:34
comfortable. There is probably an
element of a Scarlets' blueprint. It | 0:12:34 | 0:12:39
sets well for a product we want to
put out there. I thought he defended | 0:12:39 | 0:12:45
well, we did a pretty good job
defensively and took the set piece. | 0:12:45 | 0:12:53
And that channel. The message was,
just the pace, keep patience and | 0:12:53 | 0:13:00
keep possession, we were art about
to shorten them up. They got us a | 0:13:00 | 0:13:05
couple of times on the edges, and
the ability probably for their ten | 0:13:05 | 0:13:11
on the have that second option as
well, so he doesn't have to play | 0:13:11 | 0:13:14
everything. Also made the nine a bit
more dangerous, so, you know when | 0:13:14 | 0:13:19
you look at three playmakers there
is that built of, you can't watch | 0:13:19 | 0:13:23
everything at the same time. We play
with the same sort of style. There | 0:13:23 | 0:13:28
is a different picture, we didn't
know too much about particular | 0:13:28 | 0:13:31
seven, you know, and the six there,
so we had to feel that out. I am | 0:13:31 | 0:13:37
sure and see how that was going to
play out. Nothing showed a mental | 0:13:37 | 0:13:44
block about playing Australia. We
were architects of our own downfall | 0:13:44 | 0:13:48
because we weren't accurate enough
in the the first half. Not things | 0:13:48 | 0:13:52
they created. Given the potency they
have as an attacking team, we made | 0:13:52 | 0:13:59
it easier for them, and the pleasing
thing is we got stronger, and went | 0:13:59 | 0:14:04
on and more accurate as the game
went on, that is a positive we can | 0:14:04 | 0:14:08
take out. What has happened in the
past, I am being genuine, this is | 0:14:08 | 0:14:15
irrelevant, because it is only about
what happens in the future that | 0:14:15 | 0:14:19
counts, what happens in the past is
done. Our focus is in the planning | 0:14:19 | 0:14:24
and a lot of teams focus is about
the countdown to the World Cup. And | 0:14:24 | 0:14:29
we feel that, the nice thing is that
we have Australia in our group, and | 0:14:29 | 0:14:34
we, that time together in terms of
the next two years and preparing and | 0:14:34 | 0:14:39
camps and there together, we will go
on to that group with a lot of | 0:14:39 | 0:14:43
confidence that we are capable of
winning that group. I think we will | 0:14:43 | 0:14:46
make a lot of changes for next week.
I think, you know, so there will be | 0:14:46 | 0:14:50
a lot of some of the younger boys
will get a chance and some players | 0:14:50 | 0:14:54
that have come back in to the squad,
who have been out, getting an | 0:14:54 | 0:15:01
opportunity next week, so, and then
there is a chance for players that | 0:15:01 | 0:15:05
you know, there is a good chance of
players who go out and perform and | 0:15:05 | 0:15:09
play well and put themselves in
contention nor the All Blacks. | 0:15:09 | 0:15:15
You made your point about the start
about Wales adopting this style too | 0:15:15 | 0:15:21
late. There was more ambition,
willingness to offload, you must | 0:15:21 | 0:15:27
have been encouraged There are
elements we all were delighted to | 0:15:27 | 0:15:31
see. We got to the edge, we created
opportunity, and a lot of praise has | 0:15:31 | 0:15:36
gone to, a lot of attention rather
has the gone to Owen Williams. He | 0:15:36 | 0:15:42
made us look different behind. When
you boil it further down, what was | 0:15:42 | 0:15:46
the biggest difference was the
number of pass, one of the biggest | 0:15:46 | 0:15:51
on the field, more than Owen
Williams was Rob Evans. He passed | 0:15:51 | 0:15:55
the ball 12 times, we were play the
ball, we have altered that a lot. If | 0:15:55 | 0:16:00
you look at some thelet better
movements. The two forwards got the | 0:16:00 | 0:16:05
ball. Rob is a Scarlet. It is their
blueprint. They were all trying to | 0:16:05 | 0:16:12
do it. Some were familiar and some
were less familiar trying to do it. | 0:16:12 | 0:16:16
We don't either know where our
limits are, we want the boys to play | 0:16:16 | 0:16:21
with high risks but it comes with a
hazard if you get it wrong. We don't | 0:16:21 | 0:16:24
know what we are able to push and
what we are not. We brought that up | 0:16:24 | 0:16:29
in commentary yesterday, the fact
when Australia gets slow ball in | 0:16:29 | 0:16:33
their own 22, they will boot it,ing
on and put the pressure on Wales, we | 0:16:33 | 0:16:39
were, an offload that Gareth Davies
did. You can do that for the | 0:16:39 | 0:16:43
Scarlets and you won't get punished
but you have to understand where to | 0:16:43 | 0:16:47
put the miracle ball, you know, and
when to hold on and go to the, build | 0:16:47 | 0:16:52
through the phases again, it was
refreshing, I am going back, we | 0:16:52 | 0:16:58
didn't have the strength in-depth at
12 position, I didn't think that | 0:16:58 | 0:17:05
Scott Williams wasn't good enough. I
know the Scarlets approach and their | 0:17:05 | 0:17:09
forwards playing, it has been forced
on them a bit, as was the Lions | 0:17:09 | 0:17:14
playing a ten and 12, now they have
done it, there is no going back now. | 0:17:14 | 0:17:22
Scarlets played so well last season,
every time they did play, if I had | 0:17:22 | 0:17:27
been Wales I would have been
embarrassed. Compare to it a turgid | 0:17:27 | 0:17:32
season, treading water, I think he
is probably being polite. It was a | 0:17:32 | 0:17:35
huge season of wasted opportunity,
also it is important to consider | 0:17:35 | 0:17:40
where Australia have been, since
they were here last autumn. They | 0:17:40 | 0:17:42
have been to hell and back. Hammered
four times by England. Losing to | 0:17:42 | 0:17:47
Scotland in Sydney. Humiliated by
the All Black, boxing match would | 0:17:47 | 0:17:51
have been stopped ten minutes in.
They recovered from that. Maked 25 | 0:17:51 | 0:17:58
new player, ended the doll sick
season by beating the All Blacks. | 0:17:58 | 0:18:03
Let us talk about that, the fact
Australia have been together for a | 0:18:03 | 0:18:07
while. Warren Gatland, he didn't use
it as an excuse, he mentioned it | 0:18:07 | 0:18:12
post match. Is that a big factor?
When you try to play a new style you | 0:18:12 | 0:18:19
will have the teething issue,
especially Wales have been trying to | 0:18:19 | 0:18:22
play that way for a long time. The
guys get used to it. There is that | 0:18:22 | 0:18:26
level of comfort round playing, you
get out there and we know what we | 0:18:26 | 0:18:29
are going to do and keep doing it.
When you push to a new style you | 0:18:29 | 0:18:35
have those issue, especially under
Test match intensity. As soon as you | 0:18:35 | 0:18:40
get out there with pressure in your
face and you saw that with the | 0:18:40 | 0:18:44
mistakes they were make, you can see
they were making great inRhodes, | 0:18:44 | 0:18:48
especially on the edge there of the
Australian defence but they just, | 0:18:48 | 0:18:52
that last pass, they weren't
composed enough with the ball. I | 0:18:52 | 0:18:55
think they need to stick at it, I
don't think they should make that | 0:18:55 | 0:19:00
many change, if you pull guys in and
out you don't get that time, | 0:19:00 | 0:19:06
building some combinations to get
there, if you pull a bunch of guys | 0:19:06 | 0:19:09
out and expect them to pick up where
they left off, I think it will be a | 0:19:09 | 0:19:15
big ask. If you look in training,
someone said the Scarlets were head | 0:19:15 | 0:19:20
and shoulders above most of the
other regions because of the | 0:19:20 | 0:19:23
awaresness they have and the
confidence they have in passing and | 0:19:23 | 0:19:26
the way they are play, I think the
game they are trying to play | 0:19:26 | 0:19:32
unfortunately, the skill level
collectively, at crucial times, it | 0:19:32 | 0:19:35
let us down yesterday. I don't think
Owen Williams had a great game. I | 0:19:35 | 0:19:41
don't think he did anything special.
The Scarlets have a hard defensive | 0:19:41 | 0:19:45
press, we mentioned the line speed
yesterday, and when there are | 0:19:45 | 0:19:48
mistakes or turn overs it is two
pass, get away from traffic and see | 0:19:48 | 0:19:52
what happens on the outside, so, you
know hopefully now with the players | 0:19:52 | 0:19:56
they have picked, you know, they
will have got confidence, but I am | 0:19:56 | 0:20:00
with James as well. I-wouldn't make
huge changes for next week. There | 0:20:00 | 0:20:05
was a feeling that Wales perhaps
were in the ascendancy in the second | 0:20:05 | 0:20:10
half, there was that critical Beale
steal, the ultimate steal you called | 0:20:10 | 0:20:13
it. Let us look at this now. There
was the suggestion of a late tackle, | 0:20:13 | 0:20:17
or high tackle rather. But also,
looking at are replay a clear | 0:20:17 | 0:20:22
knock-on. We saw it, it was right
below us. It was a great steal, a | 0:20:22 | 0:20:28
one-on-one steal. I think the
referee and the TMO made an early | 0:20:28 | 0:20:33
call. They were confident on what
they had seen, maybe there was one | 0:20:33 | 0:20:38
angled from the camera that showed
he has knocked on and it was a clear | 0:20:38 | 0:20:42
knock-on. He doesn't, at that point
in the game, when you are trying to | 0:20:42 | 0:20:46
slow the game down as an Australian,
you don't take a quick conversion. I | 0:20:46 | 0:20:52
didn't see a clear knock-on. I
thought Graham is one of the best | 0:20:52 | 0:20:58
TMOs in the business. I think he got
it right. | 0:20:58 | 0:21:03
APPLAUSE
Whether it was or not, it was a | 0:21:03 | 0:21:12
critical juncture, we know how
momentum can swing in test rugby. We | 0:21:12 | 0:21:17
were playing well. Attacking well.
It is hard to know, because you | 0:21:17 | 0:21:23
could argue the try was... I think a
couple of other things going back, I | 0:21:23 | 0:21:29
can't get my head round they won't
play Owen Williams. We have to have | 0:21:29 | 0:21:34
a full-back who is good at
attacking, they said we have been | 0:21:34 | 0:21:38
working on Leigh Halfpenny's counter
attack, there is a famous quote you | 0:21:38 | 0:21:41
can't pull in what God didn't give
you. It is about beating the man | 0:21:41 | 0:21:45
with the agility... He is is not
playing for his club. Neither is | 0:21:45 | 0:21:51
Owen Williams playing 12 for
Gloucester. You can't put apply the | 0:21:51 | 0:21:55
same argument to different people.
APPLAUSE | 0:21:55 | 0:22:04
One more thing... Go on. What I, we
talk people playing in the wrong, | 0:22:04 | 0:22:13
don't play in the wrong area, by
that attitude, Liam Williams would | 0:22:13 | 0:22:21
never have started that try the
Lions scored ins in. We are still | 0:22:21 | 0:22:25
pushing the boundary, where we have
to understand is we have to push | 0:22:25 | 0:22:28
things but as the game develops, as
the phase develops, you have to | 0:22:28 | 0:22:33
realise this isn't on. We have to
change what we are doctor we don't, | 0:22:33 | 0:22:37
barely kicked in the tackle. We saw
how important that was, there are | 0:22:37 | 0:22:41
times to say we are going to go but
we have to pull it in now because it | 0:22:41 | 0:22:47
is not on those are the difficult
things the Zaha lets are struggling | 0:22:47 | 0:22:52
with -- Scarlets are struggling
will. What is it about the Aussies's | 0:22:52 | 0:22:58
killer instinct you convert
opportunity, look at that Coleman | 0:22:58 | 0:23:02
try and the pinpoint pass from
Genia, when Wales had a man | 0:23:02 | 0:23:07
advantage as they did for ten
minutes they couldn't convery. There | 0:23:07 | 0:23:10
was the Alun Wyn Jones opportunity,
couldn't get over the line. It was | 0:23:10 | 0:23:16
the patience the guys showed. That
is important. You build phases, | 0:23:16 | 0:23:21
pressure and hopefully they get a
penalty, Australia give a lot away | 0:23:21 | 0:23:28
to Wales there, but the big thing is
that patience and belief we are | 0:23:28 | 0:23:33
going no get over. If we build
phases they will creek in form of a | 0:23:33 | 0:23:39
penalty or a lazy defender, not
watching the ball, someone come | 0:23:39 | 0:23:43
tonnes blind shoulder and it was a
good ball. If you look at Australia, | 0:23:43 | 0:23:50
they have Beale, Foley, even Hodge
can step in as a first, as a | 0:23:50 | 0:23:55
stand-off, if you have Owen
Williams, you need someone at | 0:23:55 | 0:23:58
full-back to go I will take the
kick. If things are poor, you have a | 0:23:58 | 0:24:02
sense of what is happening on the
field. If you are struggling and you | 0:24:02 | 0:24:06
are bogged down in your own 20, kick
it. That is it. The vision comes | 0:24:06 | 0:24:10
from the back as well. Genia was a
different level. He controlled | 0:24:10 | 0:24:15
everything, didn't rush anything.
What yesterday shows is Australia | 0:24:15 | 0:24:20
have more players with better skills
when it matter, I think it's a skill | 0:24:20 | 0:24:24
factor many tend. Gatland can talk
about we made silly mistakes but if | 0:24:24 | 0:24:30
your skills aren't up to it you are
likely to make more. I thought Foley | 0:24:30 | 0:24:35
and Genia were terrific and they
weren't the only one, that is an | 0:24:35 | 0:24:40
Australian team without the best
player in the world in my opinion | 0:24:40 | 0:24:46
fall law. Jonathan Davies, nasty
injure right at the end, how much of | 0:24:46 | 0:24:51
a loss would he be if he is, we are
waiting to see how he will be, if he | 0:24:51 | 0:24:58
is out for the rest of the series.
He will be devastated. We are trying | 0:24:58 | 0:25:03
to develop a 12, that would be the
best way to do it. He is a wonderful | 0:25:03 | 0:25:07
player, important for the defence as
much as attack and you know, really | 0:25:07 | 0:25:11
hope he is back as soon as possible.
It would be a devastating blow. One | 0:25:11 | 0:25:16
more thing, you probably all saw the
pictures of the crowds, thousands | 0:25:16 | 0:25:20
trying to get into the stadium, and
a lot of them didn't get in until 15 | 0:25:20 | 0:25:26
minutes after kick off because of
the increased security measures. It | 0:25:26 | 0:25:30
has been the talk of social media. A
lot of fans missing much of the | 0:25:30 | 0:25:34
game. A statement was issued that
said the fans were warned, that | 0:25:34 | 0:25:40
extra security measures were going
to be in place, they will be in | 0:25:40 | 0:25:43
place now for the remainder of the
Autumn International games so I | 0:25:43 | 0:25:46
guess the message if you are go
ocean to go to any more, go early. | 0:25:46 | 0:25:52
Good advice. The next man needs no
introduction at all. He is unique, | 0:25:52 | 0:25:58
he is the one, the only Andy Powell
ladies and gentlemen. | 0:25:58 | 0:26:01
APPLAUSE
How are you big man? | 0:26:01 | 0:26:08
Andy, great to see you always. What
were your thoughts on the new Wales | 0:26:08 | 0:26:13
we saw yesterday? I was, you know I
was happy with the game, before the | 0:26:13 | 0:26:17
game, I proi probably would have
said probably have 15, 20 points put | 0:26:17 | 0:26:24
on us, the intensity, we matched
them up front, like somebody said, | 0:26:24 | 0:26:28
was it Peter said, Rob Evans was
offloading the ball. Alun Wyn Jones, | 0:26:28 | 0:26:31
it was good. That is how Wales
should be playing rugby. But it is | 0:26:31 | 0:26:35
positive. I think it is a good sign
going forward for Wales. We were | 0:26:35 | 0:26:44
forced to reshuffle a bit because of
injury, what did you make of that | 0:26:44 | 0:26:49
blend with Shingler and Navidi, a
top tackler he was yesterday. It was | 0:26:49 | 0:26:53
a good mix, back row is keen to have
a balance in it. I thought Shingler | 0:26:53 | 0:26:58
and del Fava di. Faletau was quiet.
It was a good back row, and it is | 0:26:58 | 0:27:04
good to have competition. You are a
rare breed because you are a | 0:27:04 | 0:27:09
Welshman who does know what victory
against the Wallabies looks like, | 0:27:09 | 0:27:13
nine years ago, you were at your
best. What do you remember of this | 0:27:13 | 0:27:16
one? Standardn't it for me. --
standard. The hair is looking good | 0:27:16 | 0:27:27
there. . I have aged a bit since
then! We had a good squad. The | 0:27:27 | 0:27:34
Wallabies had a good squad. You have
to take it to them, and you know, we | 0:27:34 | 0:27:38
have the players in Wales to do it.
It is good to see Wales playing, | 0:27:38 | 0:27:43
chucking the ball about on the
weekend. It is looking good for | 0:27:43 | 0:27:46
Welsh rugby. A quiet night after
that one. Probably, yes. An early | 0:27:46 | 0:27:52
night. Like Sam Warburton in bed
early. We will have more from Andy | 0:27:52 | 0:27:57
in a few moment, let us find out
what happened at the stadium | 0:27:57 | 0:28:01
yesterday. We caught up with a few
other big names to get their secret. | 0:28:01 | 0:28:07
I thought it was impressive. Not the
best of starters in the autumn but | 0:28:07 | 0:28:12
we came out, confident, looking to
play a slightly different brand of | 0:28:12 | 0:28:15
rugby to what we have seen in recent
years. | 0:28:15 | 0:28:20
We have proven as a national team we
can move the ball round, score try, | 0:28:20 | 0:28:25
we made a few too many mistakes but
that was down to the fact we were | 0:28:25 | 0:28:31
trying new things that perhaps we
were excited about. Manufacture Our | 0:28:31 | 0:28:36
ability to pass under pressure came
through from 1-15. In the tight | 0:28:36 | 0:28:40
areas we got the ball wide, quickly,
we committed defender, I think we | 0:28:40 | 0:28:45
just looked a very good side. The
selection of Owen Williams worked | 0:28:45 | 0:28:49
well. He got the ball to the wide
channel and had success there. | 0:28:49 | 0:28:54
Hopefully they will continue to play
in that way. I think he will be a | 0:28:54 | 0:28:59
permanent fixture this autumn.
The forwards that interplay with the | 0:28:59 | 0:29:05
backs. I thought Rob Evans put a big
shift in. He looked as comfortable | 0:29:05 | 0:29:11
as anyone with ball in hand. It is
great to see from a Welsh point of | 0:29:11 | 0:29:16
view. When the forwards got the
ball, they popped it out the back | 0:29:16 | 0:29:20
and chose to take a width option
when you are in the defensive line | 0:29:20 | 0:29:24
it is hard to defend teams who are
stretching you axe teams who are | 0:29:24 | 0:29:28
going narrow. I thought the game
plan was good. That helped Wales | 0:29:28 | 0:29:35
play a more expensive game plan I
thought we played well. We went off | 0:29:35 | 0:29:40
the line quick, to cut out any major
attacking threat they offered. It | 0:29:40 | 0:29:46
was a work man like performance.
Alun Wyn Jones was immense, his work | 0:29:46 | 0:29:49
rate, his ability to hold people up
in the tackle. Came through loud and | 0:29:49 | 0:29:53
clear. Back row, Navidi, Shingler,
all the guys we were questioning, | 0:29:53 | 0:29:58
stepped up today. So another step in
the right direction as far as the | 0:29:58 | 0:30:03
Welsh scwards is concerned. It a
case of going out and playing with | 0:30:03 | 0:30:09
the same attacking intent they
showed today and hopefully a good | 0:30:09 | 0:30:12
victory next week When you have a
side on the ropes like we did, you | 0:30:12 | 0:30:16
have to make sure we take the
opportunities that are there. | 0:30:16 | 0:30:26
We scored a couple of tries,
probably left a few out there and | 0:30:26 | 0:30:31
lost the ball twice on the try line.
We have got to be positive, it will | 0:30:31 | 0:30:36
be a tough game next week against
Georgia. That's the view from the | 0:30:36 | 0:30:41
pundits. Sean Holley, what has
caught your eye? The captain summed | 0:30:41 | 0:30:47
it up perfectly. What impressed most
perhaps was | 0:30:47 | 0:30:51
it up perfectly. What impressed most
perhaps was the style of play Wales | 0:30:51 | 0:30:54
played with. Expect to see the 12 at
ten, Williams. This was one of 12 | 0:30:54 | 0:31:01
line breaks that will be reviewed on
Monday. Were we clinical enough from | 0:31:01 | 0:31:05
our line break opportunities? It was
the off-loading game we saw, | 0:31:05 | 0:31:18
Scarlet-esque and it was those
players who led the way. Rob Evans' | 0:31:18 | 0:31:24
handling was superb, six carries,
this was after seven weeks out of | 0:31:24 | 0:31:28
playing. Look at Amos, hungry to go
off nine. Biggar now has three | 0:31:28 | 0:31:41
forwards as options, and maybe in
Watkin we have unearthed a future | 0:31:41 | 0:31:47
talent. Then the support lines come,
Amos again. Because of the freedom, | 0:31:47 | 0:31:55
to play with a bit more style.
Exiting is a major concern in the 22 | 0:31:55 | 0:32:01
line-out. The freedom allows them to
play, yes, but there's a time and | 0:32:01 | 0:32:06
place to do it. 20 turnovers from
Wales. If you are going to play | 0:32:06 | 0:32:12
deep, make sure you can kick and
kick effectively. Look at where the | 0:32:12 | 0:32:19
Wallabies end up from this kick from
Steffan Evans. Straight after | 0:32:19 | 0:32:23
half-time, are the half-backs on
page from the team talk? Not sure of | 0:32:23 | 0:32:30
the tactic, and look where he puts
the Wallabies, straight towards the | 0:32:30 | 0:32:36
22. What can we expect from Wales,
look at Alun Wyn Jones, the energy | 0:32:36 | 0:32:41
of the man. Faletau playing
scrum-half, they have to be | 0:32:41 | 0:32:51
interchangeable. There is Shingler
in midfield, Steffan Evans has a lot | 0:32:51 | 0:32:55
to do but it's the width they give
that | 0:32:55 | 0:32:57 | |
to do but it's the width they give
that allows him to get over. So a | 0:32:57 | 0:33:00
real improvement in the style of
play of Wales. Back to you. | 0:33:00 | 0:33:06
Good to see the Steffan Evans try. A
must as well, there was some debate | 0:33:10 | 0:33:16
whether it was a dry or not. It was
a lovely finish though, wasn't it? | 0:33:16 | 0:33:24
The very rugby league style finish.
That's what winners do, they finish. | 0:33:24 | 0:33:30
That's what he's paid to do and
that's what he did. I enjoyed it. | 0:33:30 | 0:33:36
The way they square their shoulders
up and held defenders, whereas | 0:33:36 | 0:33:40
previously they had been lapping and
lapping, a really rigid game plan. | 0:33:40 | 0:33:45
Now everyone knows the game plan, it
doesn't matter where you are, you | 0:33:45 | 0:33:51
have got to adapt. No missed passes
for the sake of missed passes, they | 0:33:51 | 0:34:05
all straightened up and held their
man. It was a positive performance | 0:34:05 | 0:34:07
in the right direction for me. It's
those little decisions at the right | 0:34:07 | 0:34:10
time and that's what you got to
learn off your forwards. Just well | 0:34:10 | 0:34:13
ate it, get on with it, then defence
is up... That's what we have got to | 0:34:13 | 0:34:18
learn, you cannot play and score off
every phase we go through. We have | 0:34:18 | 0:34:22
showered Beale with praise but take
a quick look at this. I want you to | 0:34:22 | 0:34:29
assess his scrummaging technique. | 0:34:29 | 0:34:32
I don't know what he was doing here.
Look at that. He's trying his best, | 0:34:34 | 0:34:42
isn't he? He doesn't know what he's
doing. James, why | 0:34:42 | 0:34:47
isn't he? He doesn't know what he's
doing. James, why did they put him | 0:34:47 | 0:34:49
in the scrum? I don't actually know.
He wasn't doing anything. He's not | 0:34:49 | 0:34:58
perfect, is he? No, but it's funny
how backs have no idea about | 0:34:58 | 0:35:01
scrummaging. | 0:35:01 | 0:35:07
We heard Warren Gatland talking
about it earlier, the World Cup. | 0:35:12 | 0:35:16
Wales are in the same group as
Australia. How important is that | 0:35:16 | 0:35:21
match when you are preparing to face
them again in two years? We seem to | 0:35:21 | 0:35:27
play Wales a lot, we seem to get
them once the years. It's about the | 0:35:27 | 0:35:32
future, that is in the past now.
It's about the boys get confidence | 0:35:32 | 0:35:38
playing against Wales. Michael
Hooper spoke about it, they weren't | 0:35:38 | 0:35:42
sure what to expect this time
against Wales and I think we saw | 0:35:42 | 0:35:47
that. Wales caught them short a few
times, we were short defensively | 0:35:47 | 0:35:52
which the defensive staff will be
working on against England. The | 0:35:52 | 0:35:56
World Cup is a long time away and
you can see a lot of changes in both | 0:35:56 | 0:36:01
teams so it's good confidence and we
always love winning but I don't | 0:36:01 | 0:36:06
think it will hold too much stead
for the World Cup. There is an irony | 0:36:06 | 0:36:12
here in a way because the Aussies
have adopted the system, where is | 0:36:12 | 0:36:18
the Australians yesterday picked two
big bashes in the midfield. Yes but | 0:36:18 | 0:36:23
they have super players elsewhere so
it was a nice mix for them. I think | 0:36:23 | 0:36:29
it has taken Wales too long to
realise that what Jamie Roberts | 0:36:29 | 0:36:33
brought was far too predictable.
Careful, he is his mate! I | 0:36:33 | 0:36:40
appreciate that. The coach gets
properly if you mention Warren Bull, | 0:36:40 | 0:36:47
the principle of going through
people instead of round it, and that | 0:36:47 | 0:36:51
had gone past its sell by date
before Wales got round to changing | 0:36:51 | 0:36:55
it and it's interesting Gatland's
decision has been influenced by what | 0:36:55 | 0:37:01
the Lions did playing sexton at ten
and Farrell at 12, but Owen Farrell | 0:37:01 | 0:37:08
is a better passer than anybody in
Wales. There wasn't a standout | 0:37:08 | 0:37:18
footballing 12, but I'm sure they
might have gone to that pattern | 0:37:18 | 0:37:23
earlier. Owen is putting his hand
up. Having put Owen Williams there, | 0:37:23 | 0:37:29
I think they have got to keep him
there. If you look at the teams that | 0:37:29 | 0:37:34
play this style well, then Russell,
sexton... We talk about ten, 12. Ten | 0:37:34 | 0:37:46
is the guy that takes the ball to
the line, set the tone and makes the | 0:37:46 | 0:37:50
decisions. And Biggar was a fine
player but he hasn't played the | 0:37:50 | 0:37:58
system so much. I would like to see
them having a chance to play it | 0:37:58 | 0:38:02
because it's totally different to
what we have done. He is the player, | 0:38:02 | 0:38:07
ten, 12 is just the option. It's
down to the stand-off, but yesterday | 0:38:07 | 0:38:16
they didn't really alternate the
kick in. It will be interesting to | 0:38:16 | 0:38:20
see how that develops and who they
play at ten. Biggar might be able to | 0:38:20 | 0:38:27
do it, don't get me wrong, but I
would like to see others do it as | 0:38:27 | 0:38:31
well. We are going to talk changes
in a few moments but first cast your | 0:38:31 | 0:38:41
minds back to Wednesday. Were you
doing something nice, watching | 0:38:41 | 0:38:46
Coronation Street? I think I was
watching our director abseil... As | 0:38:46 | 0:38:53
you do! We were watching rugby. It
was a night of rugby and remembrance | 0:38:53 | 0:39:00
at a cold park on Wednesday night,
and moving match ceremony. It was | 0:39:00 | 0:39:11
also a chance to mark a very
significant anniversary. It's 100 | 0:39:11 | 0:39:19
years since women joined the British
Army and served in the Armed Forces | 0:39:19 | 0:39:23
so I'm proud to be standing here
representing females joining the | 0:39:23 | 0:39:27
Army really. We have seven full
international caps in our squad, | 0:39:27 | 0:39:33
it's a fantastic team United Kingdom
are fielding tonight. It's an | 0:39:33 | 0:39:36
important time of the year,
Armistice Day and also the fact that | 0:39:36 | 0:39:42
it's a good opportunity after the
World Cup to get new blood in this | 0:39:42 | 0:39:47
team and go forward. I see a lot of
young girls coming in, it is just | 0:39:47 | 0:39:52
encouraging more young girls to get
involved in the game and it is for a | 0:39:52 | 0:39:56
great cause as well. We are hopeful
about women's rugby in the future? | 0:39:56 | 0:40:03
Yes, it is the fastest-growing
women's sport in Wales by far and I | 0:40:03 | 0:40:07
think it's really exciting. It is
really fast, really quick, a | 0:40:07 | 0:40:12
genuinely good experience. It is the
first fixture since the World Cup, | 0:40:12 | 0:40:17
and now the Welsh women's team are
there in four years it gives the | 0:40:17 | 0:40:22
staff an opportunity to look at some
young players. We have got another | 0:40:22 | 0:40:29
game this month against Scotland in
November, we have got the Six | 0:40:29 | 0:40:35
Nations, and the girls going to the
Commonwealth Games for the very | 0:40:35 | 0:40:38
first time. It will be nice to have
the girls' team there representing | 0:40:38 | 0:40:44
the union and team Wales. I've come
along to support my friend tonight. | 0:40:44 | 0:40:53
She had none of the match
performance. Yes, and she definitely | 0:40:53 | 0:40:58
deserved it so I'm glad I was
supporting. We love it every year, | 0:40:58 | 0:41:03
we want to keep it going. It was
such a great occasion, a great | 0:41:03 | 0:41:07
showcase of rugby and we cannot
thank them enough for putting this | 0:41:07 | 0:41:10
on. The best act of remembrance we
can do is come out and give a | 0:41:10 | 0:41:17
performance. There's people on our
side who have lost people in battle, | 0:41:17 | 0:41:22
friends and family, and it's time to
come together and remember those who | 0:41:22 | 0:41:27
have fallen before us. A good win on
Wednesday night for the women and on | 0:41:27 | 0:41:31
Friday night a good win for the
Barbarians women in their first ever | 0:41:31 | 0:41:36
outing, and two members of the squad
join me now. Rachael Taylor and Alun | 0:41:36 | 0:41:48
-- Ellen Evans. What did you make of
that performance as they try to | 0:41:48 | 0:41:55
develop the side? I watched the
match back and I was very impressed. | 0:41:55 | 0:41:59
It was a very emotional fixture, I
think it's great we fulfil that | 0:41:59 | 0:42:04
fixture. A lot of the Welsh girls
are in the services as well and lots | 0:42:04 | 0:42:08
of them had a cracking game. I
thought Alex was brilliant in the | 0:42:08 | 0:42:13
centre, Alicia Butcher is great in
the back row. A lot of players | 0:42:13 | 0:42:20
getting their first start but it
looked really promising and I think | 0:42:20 | 0:42:23
the services played very well as
well and it made a good game of | 0:42:23 | 0:42:27
rugby. They have Scotland next, the
Wales women, but let's talk about | 0:42:27 | 0:42:32
Friday night. How was sunny
limerick? Yes, it is known for being | 0:42:32 | 0:42:38
a bit wet and it was. We had a good
training session the day before so | 0:42:38 | 0:42:43
now we are getting excited about the
rugby but come the match day it was | 0:42:43 | 0:42:49
a bit of a downpour and a horrendous
wind going across the pitch, but | 0:42:49 | 0:42:53
some great tries in the end. We did
a good end. The first try was a | 0:42:53 | 0:43:02
penalty try but we will gloss over
that. That will be a question on | 0:43:02 | 0:43:07
question of sport one day! It was a
seven minute penalty try, but it was | 0:43:07 | 0:43:15
a lovely experience. And some
pictures of you celebrating there. | 0:43:15 | 0:43:19
Do you socialise much? It is very
good trip away, an exclusive club | 0:43:19 | 0:43:24
and credit is to go to the people
who it happen. Yes, and it's all | 0:43:24 | 0:43:31
about developing the game, I guess.
Definitely. To be involved in the | 0:43:31 | 0:43:38
first of Barbarians game, speaking
to the management, you know how hard | 0:43:38 | 0:43:42
they have worked and it's an honour
to be on that list, to wear the | 0:43:42 | 0:43:45
shirt for the first time so thanks
very much to the committee really. A | 0:43:45 | 0:43:50
good round of applause for Rachel
Taylor and Ellen Evans. | 0:43:50 | 0:43:57
So, to Georgia, that is who Wales
face next. An unfamiliar opponent | 0:43:57 | 0:44:01
for many, so here is a low-down.
Don't muck about. I don't look like | 0:44:01 | 0:44:19
Gorbachev. | 0:44:19 | 0:44:22
I am Shanks. And I am Flats. We have
come here... You have come here | 0:44:30 | 0:44:50
because you look Georgian. I don't,
I look Italian. They are ranked two | 0:44:50 | 0:44:56
space is higher in Italy. Yes, it's
all very well talking about being a | 0:44:56 | 0:45:04
shop window but this will make the
rugby world sit up and take notice. | 0:45:04 | 0:45:09
This Wales game is one of the
biggest games they will play for a | 0:45:09 | 0:45:13
long time. A rapidly improving
nation. We are thankful the Welsh | 0:45:13 | 0:45:18
Rugby union has given us this
opportunity for Saturday and | 0:45:18 | 0:45:22
everyone is excited about it. How
important has this game become for | 0:45:22 | 0:45:28
you? It's a great opportunity to
prove ourselves, that we deserve a | 0:45:28 | 0:45:34
chance to play Six Nations. | 0:45:34 | 0:45:39
I will tell you what, it is not a
myth, there is some proper big units | 0:45:43 | 0:45:49
about. Normally this is my domain
but even I'm feeling out of it. How | 0:45:49 | 0:45:54
are they so big? I think there's a
little secret ingredient, I will | 0:45:54 | 0:45:59
show you. | 0:45:59 | 0:46:04
Go on then. Thanks for lending me
your kit. I would have done it | 0:46:07 | 0:46:17
myself... Just imagine he's Jiffy,
getting to him. People will think | 0:46:17 | 0:46:21
you are warrior. Give them to me.
Glory in these years. Jiffy. Jiffy. | 0:46:21 | 0:46:34
Jiffy. David, you might need a safe
word. Get whatever you want. Grand | 0:46:34 | 0:46:39
Slam. | 0:46:39 | 0:46:45 | |
All right, how are you, mate? I used
all right to walk my dog on Tuesday? | 0:46:53 | 0:47:00
Quiet, Shanks, I'm on the phone to
Nugget. I hope the boys have come | 0:47:00 | 0:47:12
into camp well and that Shanks and
Flats are not keeping you too busy. | 0:47:12 | 0:47:24
Good luck and hope to catch up soon.
That's nice, Milton will love that. | 0:47:24 | 0:47:31
Tommy, Milton will never see that.
Bigger picture. It's a ladder we are | 0:47:31 | 0:47:36
climbing. Milton is safely in bed,
restaurant... Flats and Shanks to | 0:47:36 | 0:47:48
the stars, OK? Set piece is huge for
this team, massive strength. Yes, | 0:47:48 | 0:47:53
the scrum is a strength at least. We
have seen them in the gym, they are | 0:47:53 | 0:48:00
big, muscular alpha males so the
scrum is almost the embodiment of | 0:48:00 | 0:48:03
what they want to be as men on the
field so it's no surprise they have | 0:48:03 | 0:48:07
a great scrum but the line-out is
different. You need timing, it is | 0:48:07 | 0:48:12
actually quite delicate art form so
that's what we will see in games | 0:48:12 | 0:48:17
against teams like Wales, tier one
teams, that's where we will see if | 0:48:17 | 0:48:21
they have got detail yet. Georgie,
they won't let us out. Was that | 0:48:21 | 0:48:35
really the Prime Minister? Yes. How
do you know him? We went to school | 0:48:35 | 0:48:43
together. Prime Minister, how big a
moment visit to meet David and me? | 0:48:43 | 0:48:50
That is a joke, how big moment is it
for Georgian rugby to be playing | 0:48:50 | 0:48:56
Wales on Saturday? It's a great
opportunity and we are very proud of | 0:48:56 | 0:49:00
our national team. It is in our
blood and we are very proud I | 0:49:00 | 0:49:07
believe that our rugby players will
have a great game in Wales. And I | 0:49:07 | 0:49:11
presume that showed George beat
Wales in Cardiff you will declare a | 0:49:11 | 0:49:17
national holiday for all? Yes,
absolutely. I had a good time | 0:49:17 | 0:49:21
actually. Yeah, absolutely, where to
next? | 0:49:21 | 0:49:29 | |
It depends where they send us. | 0:49:29 | 0:49:33
How do you follow that? We can't
take them anywhere, can we? He has | 0:49:41 | 0:49:47
no shame. I would love to see what
they did off-camera. You were | 0:49:47 | 0:49:56
mentioned, Jiffy? Fancy taking them
on? No! Go to our website for a | 0:49:56 | 0:50:06
longer version, it is definitely
worth a watch. We have heard the | 0:50:06 | 0:50:11
slightly quirky view from Georgia
but on the pitch they have been | 0:50:11 | 0:50:15
pulling up trees so far. They have
beat Kingsley Jones' Canada 54-22 | 0:50:15 | 0:50:24
and if you have any doubts about
their finishing prowess, watch this. | 0:50:24 | 0:50:33
Incredible. I guess the lesson there
is never give up on what seems like | 0:50:55 | 0:51:02
a losing cause. Yes, that's an
amazing finish. It's going to be a | 0:51:02 | 0:51:08
tough game, one of those games for
Wales that is a banana skin. If they | 0:51:08 | 0:51:16
don't perform, everyone will react
negatively. How much should be fear | 0:51:16 | 0:51:21
that scrum? A lot. In some of the
other clips, driving line-outs and | 0:51:21 | 0:51:28
pressure, and a lot of Georgians
playing in France both in the First | 0:51:28 | 0:51:32
Division and second division and
they are big men. A lot of them come | 0:51:32 | 0:51:38
from a wrestling background. As
demonstrated by Tom Shanklin in a | 0:51:38 | 0:51:43
leotard! They will want to keep it
tight, they will kick well and try | 0:51:43 | 0:51:47
to shut the game down so the
challenge for Wales will be to get | 0:51:47 | 0:51:51
possession quickly from set piece
and move into open space. Warren | 0:51:51 | 0:51:55
Gatland has already mentioned he
will make quite a few changes, where | 0:51:55 | 0:52:03
would you start, Jonathan? I don't
know I haven't really thought about | 0:52:03 | 0:52:05
it but one thing I would do is I
would ensure we have a strong pack. | 0:52:05 | 0:52:10
Whatever changes you are going to do
behind, if it is not the strongest | 0:52:10 | 0:52:15
pack, it won't help anyone behind. I
am with James, I would make many | 0:52:15 | 0:52:20
changes to the side. They have
started this new style, Owen | 0:52:20 | 0:52:25
Williams' first game, I would give
him a run in outside centre maybe. | 0:52:25 | 0:52:30
Maybe change Liam to full-back and
in the forwards I would maybe tinker | 0:52:30 | 0:52:37
but the front five has to be
stronger. Maybe put Priestland in as | 0:52:37 | 0:52:42
well but it's not fair to make
changes in the front five struggle | 0:52:42 | 0:52:48
and then you are in the dogfight.
Then the old style, it would have | 0:52:48 | 0:52:54
been a boring game really, with the
old-style we played, but now with | 0:52:54 | 0:52:59
the way we played yesterday and if
we have that approach to get it wide | 0:52:59 | 0:53:03
again, it will be quite a convincing
win hopefully. I'm intrigued to get | 0:53:03 | 0:53:10
Andy's thoughts because you will
have had a glimpse of Leon Brown | 0:53:10 | 0:53:13
with your time at the Dragons. Is he
the kind of character that could get | 0:53:13 | 0:53:18
stuck into the Georgians from the
off? He's a young kid, he has a | 0:53:18 | 0:53:24
future. I'm glad Warren Gatland has
put him in, given him a chance and I | 0:53:24 | 0:53:29
think he's the future of Welsh
rugby. He's a big lad, athletic and | 0:53:29 | 0:53:34
strong and in a few years he could
be key for the World Cup. So you | 0:53:34 | 0:53:42
would chuck him in against the
Georgians? Yes, he is a big lad and | 0:53:42 | 0:53:45
would be physical so I would give
him a chance. In terms of the pack | 0:53:45 | 0:53:50
overall, you wouldn't tinker with
that too much because that is the | 0:53:50 | 0:53:54
Georgians' major strength? It comes
down to if anyone has picked up any | 0:53:54 | 0:54:00
knocks. Alun Wyn Jones is critical
for the side and make sure he's | 0:54:00 | 0:54:06
firing but I wouldn't tinker too
much. You might swap the starters | 0:54:06 | 0:54:11
with the reserves but I think as a
whole I would keep the side as | 0:54:11 | 0:54:15
consistent as possible so they can
get more time in the saddle | 0:54:15 | 0:54:19
together. We mentioned how important
the Number Ten is, you mentioned | 0:54:19 | 0:54:25
Priestland, but you have to go with
Biggar because of the number of caps | 0:54:25 | 0:54:30
he has? For this game I would go
with Priestland at ten, keep Owen | 0:54:30 | 0:54:35
Williams at 12. One person we
haven't talked about is Tyler | 0:54:35 | 0:54:39
Morgan, who needs to get fit, then
he would come back as a specialist | 0:54:39 | 0:54:44
outside centre and heaven knows
there's a shortage of those. I would | 0:54:44 | 0:54:49
change back three. I think Alan Amos
has done more than enough to deserve | 0:54:49 | 0:54:57
the start. I would stick with
Steffan Evans. Leigh has become a | 0:54:57 | 0:55:09
sacred cow. I think also, if there
is to be a public holiday in Georgia | 0:55:09 | 0:55:18
a week Monday... Which there might
be! That could change the landscape | 0:55:18 | 0:55:23
of European nuclear as we know it
because if Georgia were to come here | 0:55:23 | 0:55:28
on Saturday and win, I think their
claim to join the Six Nations with | 0:55:28 | 0:55:33
the irresistible. They have already
won the second tier level six times | 0:55:33 | 0:55:38
out of seven so they are kind of
saying what more do we have to do to | 0:55:38 | 0:55:42
get into this club? Also they
comprehensively beat Canada this | 0:55:42 | 0:55:47
weekend. And it is a good trip for
everyone! Picking up on the point | 0:55:47 | 0:55:54
about the tens, if we want this
access to work would it not be wise | 0:55:54 | 0:56:06
to give them a run to get more
familiar with each other? That would | 0:56:06 | 0:56:11
be a reasonable thing to do but we
are trying to cram it all in against | 0:56:11 | 0:56:17
the best team in the world who are
experts at exploiting weaknesses. I | 0:56:17 | 0:56:21
would like to see us experiment a
little but we are where we are and I | 0:56:21 | 0:56:28
would have no issue with playing
either guy at ten but we need to use | 0:56:28 | 0:56:33
the bench. 15 minutes to go, we
should have emptied the bench. But | 0:56:33 | 0:56:38
it's an experience. If you don't
trust them, don't put them on the | 0:56:38 | 0:56:43
bench. If you genuinely trust your
players, you use them when you need | 0:56:43 | 0:56:50
them and there was a sense of, I
don't want to use these guys until | 0:56:50 | 0:56:57
the last minute. Can we have some
quick predictions about who will | 0:56:57 | 0:57:00
win? Wales. Wales. I think it will
be tough, but Wales. Wales. | 0:57:00 | 0:57:13
Time is against us. It is time to
thank our panel. Will you please | 0:57:20 | 0:57:25
give a round of applause. And of
course, Andy at the bar! And thanks | 0:57:25 | 0:57:38
of course do you guys for watching,
to our lovely visitors in the club | 0:57:38 | 0:57:43
this evening as well. We haven't got
the win against the Wallabies, it | 0:57:43 | 0:57:48
has been nine long years, but as
discussed plenty of reasons to be | 0:57:48 | 0:57:53
positive after that displays.
Georgia next, hopefully we will be | 0:57:53 | 0:57:58
celebrating a win. | 0:57:58 | 0:58:02 |
