Scarlets v Zebre Scrum V

We've all been gripped by the Six Nations over the last fortnight, but

this weekend international rugby takes a break and focus turns to

Pro12. Tonight we are in west Wales as the Scarlets take on Zebre and

these boys got themselves back into the top four with the ultimate smash

and grab victory in Glasgow. Good pick up by Parkes. Williams! Of

the Scarlets are back on level terms. James Davies goes in for it.

Brilliant run by Davies. James Davies has Williams on the outside

but doesn't need him. He's over for the second. What a win for the

Scarlets. That was a huge victory in the context of the league as it

meant the Scarlets swapped places with Glasgow, from fifth into

fourth, and they will be looking for a bonus point tonight. They are

playing the bottom side, Zebre, with just one victory to their name all

season. Welcome to Parc y Scarlets, Urreta to be barmy Parc y Scarlets

after last week. It is a test. The Scarlets have two of their Wales

squad players back, one on the bench and one in the starting line-up. My

experience in this league is at this time of year you need a good blend

of youth from the local area and good quality overseas players. The

Scarlets are adding that to their squad. This is Johnny McNicholl last

week, solid under the high ball and a good counter attack. Parkes has

been one of the players of the season. Showing responsibility. A

crossfield kick to DTH van der Merwe, not playing tonight,

unfortunately. Putting young Tom Williams in for the crucial score. A

blend of quality from undersea is -- overseas and the quality of youth.

DTH van der Merwe not playing tonight he tweaked his and strength.

Steffan Evans gets a start. He will be chomping at the bit. He's been

off the chicken nuggets for the last four weeks! He's been training with

a scientist. He'll be disappointed he didn't play last weekend. He

thought he would get a stay -- shot on the big stage, but he didn't. Now

he's live on TV to show everybody why he should be there. He'll want

the ball in hand and to score a few tries as the Scarlets go after a

bonus point. But you have to break them down upfront before you do the

fancy stuff. I think the Ospreys had fright last week, leaking ten points

in the first half. A banana skin can happen. I used to hate playing

against the likes of Zebre and Treviso because they are capable of

a big performance and you are always expected to win. The Scarlets need

the bonus point. After winning in Glasgow last week, they need to back

it up this week and cement themselves in the top four. I'm sure

Wayne Pivac has drilled the message into his players.

You said in the match programme you need to be on the money mentally.

What do you mean? Having the same level of intensity as we have

against the bigger sites. It's about playing the game with intensity over

80 minutes and being disciplined. Good luck. The teams are about to

emerge from the tunnels. The Scarlets have never lost to Zebre.

Can they maintain their unbeaten run over tonight's opposition and

further cement their place in the Pro12 top four? Lets join our

commentators. Conditions excellent for the game

this evening. Not too much wind, not as cold as it was in every game last

weekend. Zebre, after going ahead against the Ospreys last week, will

be looking to see if they're returning players can bolster them

and see if they can make any impression at the front of the Pro12

table. Andrea De Marchi, the loose end prop, leading them onto the

field. Eight Zebre players have been

released from the Italian Six Nations squad. Scrum-half Violi was

released from international duty. South African winger and New Zealand

full-back adding to the international flavour. The Scarlets,

fresh from that excellent victory. Aaron Shingler has the pleasure and

honour of leading the team out. Two changes upfront to the starting

line-up. Phillips at hooker, Beirne in the second row, James Davies

fresh from a man of the match performance in Scotland. Steff Evans

might not have made the red of Wales, but he's back for the

Scarlets instead of van der Merwe. Hughes celebrates his birthday with

a start alongside the skipper. Five Daniel International is on the Zebre

bench. -- internationals from Italy. Andrew Byrne -- Andrew Brace of

Ireland from Ireland is in charge this evening. His 20th game at this

level. Dan Jones gets the game underway. Scarlets in the top four

position. Zebre rooted to the bottom.

Bordoli, the new outside-half, who started against the Ospreys last

week, off the bench begins Leinster previously. Johnny McNicholl has

settled down into the full-back role lately after starting in the wing

having come over from New Zealand. Aaron Shingler, 150th appearance

this evening. 100 league games. Immediately the Scarlets are looking

for which it. James Davies was outstanding in Glasgow last week.

Didn't give Johnny McNicholl much room to move. Will Boyde getting

well over the gain line. Loose pass from Tadgh Beirne. Picked up by

Phillips. The ball spilt and a chance for a

counter for Kurt Baker. From Palmerston North in New Zealand.

First breakdown. James Davies winning his team a penalty. Good

evening. No secret how the Scarlets want to approach this game. Plenty

of width. You've got to be very careful in these games that you do

the little jobs well and you do the hard work. Everybody expects the

Scarlets to rack up a cricket score tonight, but you have to do the hard

work. James Davies starts, 16 turnovers in the league this season.

He is so dangerous once he gets into a strong position. Virtually

impossible to move. De Marchi just got in to get the ball for Zebre,

but it didn't last long. Lots of running off the ball.

A change of tactic, meant for Aaron Shingler. The very tall right

window, but even he wasn't going to reach that one. -- winger. Took the

kick over, but too much weight on it. But good invention. That's what

Zebre will do, they will give you opportunities. They will give away

penalties. Going straight for the corner. Not sure whether he should

take the points or not after last Saturday! They've got to be looking

for a bonus point. The top four is so tight. Zebre at home during the

Six Nations, you have to go for four tries. Tadgh Beirne takes the

line-out. James Davies just collecting it from Philips.

Good drive on by the whole pack. Shingler, Beirne, Price. It's gone

to ground anyway. Front row forwards just peeling off, ready to carry it

up again. Scarlets within seven or eight metres. McNichol was waiting.

Went across the face. Just nudged forward before Bellini can take

advantage. If you make a brave call, you've got to come away with

something. A little bit sloppy. Zebre did really well. Got a little

bit sloppy. The one thing Scarlets Dulac is a big ball-carrier to over

the gain line. They have explosive men in Boyde and Davies, but nobody

to really get over the gain line. Young Will Boyde has been very

impressive. 22 years old. Dwayne Peel a few years back, I think he

was coaching the Scarlets Academy, and he said he was one to look out

for. He got his chance in the Autumn Internationals when James Davies was

banned. He's been outstanding. They were running at it at pace and

they were looking to use the men they've got in the centre and Steff

Evans on the win, but Jones couldn't hang onto it. They are playing in

the right areas. Johnny McNicholl and Jonny Evans, he made himself

available but got spooked by the defence. Just missing a little bit

of detail so far to finish things off, but they are playing in the

right area. They need to calm down a bit and go through the phases rather

than doing the hard stuff first. Postiglioni manages to get it back.

Marcello Violi with aid each -- distant touch finder. Do you feel

most of their work will be done on the back foot this evening? Here

come the Scarlets again. Lovely eft load to Jonathan Evans. Beirne in

support. Steff Hughes to Hadleigh Parkes. James Davies on the wing.

It's all quick tempo stuff from the Scarlets. Boyde. The ball is there

again for the home team. Tadgh Beirne driving on.

Untidy for Jonathan Evans. The forwards have to go in, led by

Werner Kruger. Great player initially, great awareness from

McNicholl. The ball went off the field of play. Zebre bit slow on the

chase and give this man half an opportunity and he's away. This is

what he can do in open space. Great big celebration and great footwork,

and a nice off-load at the end to keep the play going. A little bit

sloppy in the contact area further on, but good signs from the

Scarlets. They are getting into really good areas and just missing

out on the last pass. They are getting into these areas, they just

have to make a few passes stick. A bit more patience and it will be

points on the board. Ruzza with the feed. Violi. Wants to

put it further in the stand this time. Bounces off the advertising

hoardings! Very unlucky from the scrum-half. Went through greater

depth, but that time hit the advertising hoardings so it allowed

McNicholl to go for the quick one again. Screaming at the scrum-half,

put it into Row Z, don't give them a chance to counter attack. That time

it good tackle by Baker on Steff Evans to dislodge the ball. They are

going to try to play like this all night. High tempo. Keep the ball in

play. Taia out the Italians. Let them test their discipline because

they do give away penalties. Just need to be more efficient in the

contact areas. This Italian team are coming here low on confidence. By

putting the ball on the touchline, keeping them on the back foot will

tomorrow lies them more. They just need points on the board to get

their heads down. They've only had one win this year, away in

Edinburgh. They need to keep punching it forward, don't let Zebre

get anywhere near their half and it could be a torrid time for them. The

scrums have been really good. Andrew Brace saying they have been an even

contest. We haven't had any resets yet. Tempting fate! Guess what is

about to happen? No, that was steady enough for the ball to get away.

Koegelenberg, the South African second row, but the ball back with

the Scarlets. Still alive. Pressure on Bellini. The dry has come, has

it? -- try. I think it just came off Tom Williams. A cracking kick and

the bounce of the ball, he didn't know where it was coming from.

Horrible bounce. The winger in No Man's Land. McNicholl and Williams

getting in each other's way. But great play from Steff Hughes earlier

on. A mix-up in the Zebre midfield and his off-load created space for

Parkes to put in the kick. Good work by Ruzza. But even then,

the kick was a little bit rushed. Rushed, but he hasn't given the

Scarlets an opportunity to take a quick throw in. This is what Zebre

want. They have to take the tempo out of the Scarlets. Kicks into Row

Z is what they need. Tom Price. Penalty coming to the Scarlets.

Zebre came in from the side. They can't work the final pass for

anybody in space. Detached and back in the side, three.

Dan Jones has started the last three games now for the Scarlets. Aled

Thomas on the bench and Steff Evans stepping up to take the place of DTH

van der Merwe. Shingler supplies and Emyr Phillips controls. Edging

towards that try line. Next pod or forwards led by Will

Boyde. Right up to the try line. James Davies tries to bustle his way

over. Jonathan Evans. They are so close now. Parkes twists and thinks

better about going for the try himself. Kept alive and flicked on,

and just about enough room for Steff Evans to squeeze in the corner. He

kept his feet in the air. I think he hit the post, but it's OK if he did.

A possible foot in touch initially on the touchline. Any reason why I

can't award the try? Any reason why we can't award the try, potential

foot in touch. Have a look at Evans's left leg? Where was it when

the ball was put down? That's OK. Flicking the post. It's a try.

Get the ball down. On the first one, with his white boots... I thought

he'd hit the touchline, but it's the try all day long. He'll be happy

with that. He's been twiddling his thumbs. Full of adrenaline in the

last few weeks and off he goes. I have the decision. You may award the

try. Decision confirmed. A fine finish by

Steff Evans and the Scarlets are on the board. You can't say it wasn't

coming, the whole 12 minutes has been in the Zebre half and the Zebre

22. They kept their patients. Good defence by Zebre but they ran out of

numbers. Used to Evans and a quality finish because there wasn't much

room to work in. Nothing less than they deserve, the Scarlets. They'd

turned down an opportunity to kick three points. Eventually they got

over in the left-hand corner. Beautifully struck kick by Dan Jones

and five becomes seven. Good work by Hadleigh Parkes and a

lovely flicked on by Steff Hughes. A great finish by Steff Evans. The

Scarlets have been threatening, they've been putting the ball flat

and it hasn't quite stuck, but now it's stuck. They have confidence and

now they have to make sure Zebre don't get back into the game.

That's just what you want from a restart. Nice take, excellent kick.

He was just finding his feet, Parkes, but Dan Jones has stepped up

and played really, really well since taking over the ten jersey. A little

bit disappointed with the pressure Zebre didn't put on the Scarlets.

Awful kick off. They are the small things, the basics, which is why it

Zebre bottom of the league. Penalty. Guess who. 15 minutes gone,

two turnovers already. That was down to Steff Hughes come he went down

and ripped the ball. He's sniffing about the breakdown and straight

over to win another penalty for the Scarlets.

Overhit. That's a big disappointment for the Scarlets. Perhaps a bit

overconfident. He's just nailed a conversion and nailed a clearance

kick from the kick-off. Perhaps went for a little bit too much. Sometimes

I don't mind people having a go at that. They want the five yard

lineout. He just missed it. If he gets it just inside the post, they

have a hell of a line-out. You win some and lose some. A gamble that

didn't pay off. McNicholl looking for the gap

created by the chase. Bordoli is back there. The kick charged down.

Tom Williams. The Scarlets looking to spread it as quickly as possible.

Dan Jones sees the drifting defence and steps back inside them.

Looking for the past to his winger but it was cut out. The break is on.

Has he overcooked it? Just the wrong side of the post for Giulio Bisegni!

Did everything except get the bounce of the ball. Easy to say from up

here, but I thought he had time to pick it up and run it in. The

closest man to him was his own player. You could see what Hughes

was going for. From here, the alarm bells are ringing. He's rushed that

kick. He had time to look around him. You would think an Italian

would have better football skills! The Scarlets got away with one

because that was a good opportunity for Zebre. Zebre are just giving the

Scarlets and Ainge whenever they kick the ball. No one chasing kicks

or putting pressure on. Dan Jones will be happy if that's the case all

night, if he's given an armchair ride. I think he'll chuffed. He did

have far more time than he thought. Shingler... Good presence of mind

just take the ball as well. James Davies arrives support. Did he throw

that or not? Very, very close. Brilliant work from Aaron Shingler.

Has James Davies rounded it off? Reaction from the players is the

first thing you look at. He's not convinced. You know as a player...

Andrew Brace was about to give it. I think he's lost this. Let's have a

look. He's lost it come he's dropped it. You could tell straightaway from

his reaction. Obviously got very stumpy hands! If

it backed himself to go in the corner, he would have got in with

his pace and power. But stepped inside. Great work by Shingler,

showed his pace and footballing ability. I thought he might have put

another side foot to that to go over the line, but fantastic bit of

skill. Sloppy from Zebre. Great weight to the kick as well.

Composure to keep it. Great play by Emyr Phillips, back yourself a bit.

I would have fancied him to get over in the corner, Davies, but he

stepped inside and lost it. Took his head guard off for a second and he's

sporting a very fruity haircut tonight!

Looks like Federico Ruzza is going to have to do a lot of that this

evening. A slowly at -- solid platform to come off the back of.

Nice to watch a game 20 minutes in, a lot of scrums but they've all come

away cleanly. Emyr Phillips, struggling. That is a

real shame, he is a top player. He has just been dogged by injuries.

His right sock is down and here's grimacing. He did very well to link

up in that way. He gave the past that could have been a tribal James

Davies. A shame, he has been a fantastic player. Blighted by

injury. Shingler had a juggle and Jones did

the cleaning up work to make sure it remains in Scarlets hands.

Schindler is getting more and more in the action. -- Shingler.

Zebre are keeping their shape defensively. But as the phases build

up, the Scarlets will be looking for a mismatch somewhere.

Lost patience abet, there. Steff Hughes has regathered.

Gives Zebre credit, they had to defend for probably a dozen phases.

Great feet from Steff Evans. Good angle from Tom Williams. Really got

to look after the ball, there is no need for a miracle of load. They

just keep hold of it, go through the phases. While there is a break in

play, Phil has gone on a wonder. I am with one of the members of the

coaching staff of Zebre, how does pointing was it that you didn't get

something on the ball with the breakaway? Unfortunately, the soccer

skills let down a bit. Just disappointing he wasn't aware there

was nobody around him to pick it up and go and score. That is obviously

something that has happened. We have to be a little bit more discipline.

We have given away too many penalties. We need to work harder on

the breakdown. When we have the ball, we need to keep it and use it.

We have given them an easy ball and they are counterattacking all the

time. We need to look forward and make the mistakes right. Good to be

back? It was a long time ago, but it was a privilege to play for this

fantastic club. There is the one solid aspect of

Zebre's game. The scrum. Did come under increasing pressure there. I'm

not sure if that is a sign of things to come.

A bit over casual from the Scarlets. Really sloppy. Plenty of time. Just

a lack of communication. It has given Zebre and easy out. I was just

going to mention, it is deja vu will stop scrum to Zebre, clearance kick,

should not let the ball bounce. Johnny McNicholl expecting it. I am

sure there will be messages coming on saying to go back to basics, but

they will know that anyway. They are trying to be too cute at times. It

is just one they have tried to force it, the mistakes are happening. Get

the ball into the right area. Bellini gets in the corner. Very

simple, but very effective rugby from Zebre. Use a simple, but it was

just great angles, great off-loads, all from sloppy play by the

Scarlets. They had Zebre and all sorts of pressure. Only their second

chance. But look at the angle from 13, great angle. You can say it is

poor defence. But it was a great angle. He threaded that pass. Target

extremely well. The try that they squandered, they could be right in

the game, even though they don't deserve to be. The breakaways, that

is where the Italian teams get amongst it, and they put the points

on the board. Good attacking of the inside shoulder by ten and 13. Space

on the outside for the winger. Very well found by Bisegni.

Good strike from Violi. 25 minutes dominated by the Scarlets, all

square. Very well worked try. Bordoli

attacking first. By sexy doing the same. The finish from Bellini. Tom

Williams, just driven out by Bordoli. He nearly made amends for

himself. He has had a tough couple of minutes, Williams. But it bounces

straight into his hands. Nothing else he can do, really. Just touch

to keep hold of the ball. His only option was to cut inside and take

the tackle. He had no angle to work with.

Not straight, it was directed at Joshua Furno.

That is the banana skin of these teams. You put all of the pressure

on them, the Scarlets have been camping in the 22 and it is 7-7.

They could have have the extra try as well. You have to be aware of

that when you are playing teams like this.

You are getting ahead of me. Wait for my call, please. Take the

pressure off. Most of the scrums have been Zebre scrums. As Martin

said, they have all been played away from, pretty neat and tidy. Every

now and then they have had a show. It is what everybody wants to see,

the ball being played away and clean.

Now, a chance, if they go left. They were narrow initially. They have a

chance to reform, Shingler pops out. The referee is playing an advantage.

Well read, by Bisegni. It was a dynamic tackle, you must

release and move. Sympathy for him, he thought he had gone in, but he

said it was just a tackle. He has just stayed there, thinking it is a

maul. They've got to come away with something, the Scarlets.

Parkes is the go to man. Jonathan Evans to Alan Shingler, and it is as

easy as that. They are lined up for some fancy play, and it was just a

hardline from Parkes and from Shingler towards the ruck. A strong

curry again from Parkes. Clean ball. -- carry. Defending the inside of

the ruck, getting the inside of the scrum. Too easy at this level. One

ruck, they have done nothing fancy at all. It is a simple ball back

inside, no defenders. I don't know what he was doing, I

would have been pretending to do my shoelaces up. Even when he saw the

ball, he didn't make that big an effort. A good play, they exploited

it and came back, against the run of play. He will have analysed it,

seeing if there were spaces. Well taken by Shingler. He has had a very

busy first half. Easy conversion. Let's go back to fill. You turn down

the penalty, is that your intent? We have to back it up by executing and

going through the phases, perhaps not forcing the ball. We have

dropped ourselves in trouble. In the end, we conceded a try. There is

plenty we need to get right. How much of a nudge is the fact that

they scored the try? Might do the lads good. We put ourselves in

pressure by putting the ball over the 22. I think it is probably the

first time they had been in our half, and they come away with seven

points. That is a big focus. Not that you were happy to concede the

try, just checking! Ruzza certainly seems to be the

liveliest of the forwards for Zebre this evening.

Scarlets, defending on or about the 22. Zebre, making no progress.

The longest they have been in possession.

Ruzza again making his presence felt. The number eight is the one

that is carrying Zebre at the moment.

Tadhg Beirne, anybody chasing up after it? Tom Williams is.

He takes it on the half volley, and that is a great try. Tadhg Beirne

will talk long and hard about his past downfield, but the pace and

presence of Tom Williams gives Scarlets a breakaway third try. Talk

about bouncing around people, it bounced perfectly for Tom Williams.

It could have gone anywhere. Tadhg Beirne reads it well. This could

have gone anywhere, but it is straight into Tom Williams' hands.

Good place to get away. First, Shingler, showing the footwork. And

then Beirne, a cultured right foot. Just put side spin on that, just to

put it into his path. Fantastic finish. Against the run of play.

These are the sort of scores that break the away team down. They come

here, bottom of the league, that is what put their heads down, the first

bit of pressure that Zebre really hard. He is lucky he didn't catch it

properly, otherwise it would have gone somewhere else. That bounced

perfectly. Zebre looked dangerous with the ball in hand, they were

going through phases really well. That is what you need to do, keep

your discipline, trust your defence. Then you will force a mistake. A try

in Glasgow last week, following a try to take the Scarlets within a

bonus point for Tom Williams. They can relax a little bit, five

minutes to go of the first half and they have three of the four

necessary tries in the bank. You say relax, we did a game last

year, very similar to Treviso, they could not get it over and it cost

them the top four. Just got to keep their foot to the floor.

He will be pretty happy with the way things are going so far.

Bisect me has looked busy this evening. They do have some nice

lines behind. They just struggle for the killer pass. --

I am not sure what Violi was aiming for.

He really caught the eye in the first half for Zebre. Only 22 years

old. A very accomplished player, Frederick reserve. -- Frederico

Rosa. Wyn Jones, the loosehead, getting

some attention. The other game being played this evening, Leinster are

leading Edinburgh by 8-0. Leinster, in third, one spot above

the Scarlets. A couple of big games this weekend. Ospreys and Munster,

the top two. Really looking forward to that one. Not only are they in

first and second, they are in really good form.

A lot of the Welsh boys in and around the squad.

A grown of disappointment. That will be frustrating. A bit sloppy, with

ball in hand. No pressure at all. A poor exit. It gives a Zebre

something to bite on. He will not be happy with that,

Stephen Jones. I'm not sure if they have decided about Johnny McNicholl,

is he a 12, a 14? What we have seen of him, he plays a lot on the wing.

It's a different sort of game in the northern hemisphere. A lot of the

boys coming up take a while to find their feet. A quality player, no

doubt about that. Jonathan Evans, with a clearance

kick. He should have given that. It is the

small decision-making from the Italians that has left them down.

Bellini was screaming for it on the outside.

Turned over by the Scarlets. The attack have been very good in the

contact area. Only one player there, this is

pressure. Josh Furno, he could have done with

a big welly into the stands. You want to keep on playing until

somebody gets a score or makes a mistake.

Surely now the Scarlets will say we're not going to run from 80

metres. That will do. Three tries will do is nicely in the first 40.

That is what they've got. They have run every opportunity they have had.

They have given away a try, but they are leading at half-time by 21-7. I

think they should be quite happy. We will find out now. Are you

reasonably happy? Yes, I think so. It probably doesn't help, giving the

ball away to them. Hopefully we can just keep the pressure. The hack on

from Tadhg Beirne, a planned move customer Yes, straight off the

training fields! So, an early start for Steff Evans.

Straight back in from the Wales squad. Straight over the line. Then

some enterprising play from Zebre. Mattia Bellini over the line. Panic

stations, perhaps. So many opportunities spurned until that

point. A lovely hard from our Aaron Shingler.

A hack from Tadhg Beirne, great pace from Tom Williams to cross the line.

Fantastic finish from the winger. The Scarlets comfortable at

half-time, 21-7 is the half-time score. Ian, it was looking worrying

at one stage. So many handling errors. When Zebre got down, they

took their chances? Scarlets were camped out in the 22, they were

trying things that didn't seem to be on. There were not quite sticking

the passes. I thought there were very lucky that Zebre did not pick

the ball when they made that break to the try. It was a lot more time

than they thought. They will be happy with the scoreline, but it

didn't really tell a tale of what happened. What did you put that down

to? We talked about how the Scarlets have never lost to Zebre. Maybe a

touch of complacency? They have been uncharacteristically sloppy. It

could be complacency, it is quite cold. It could be anything. They are

possibly trying a bit hard. They are trying to go through some patterns.

They could have put the game to bed by now, you know? Crucial areas in

the 22, it has really cost them. They have taken three chances. I'm

sure at half-time, Wayne Pivac will consolidate. We talked about how

hungry Steff Evans will be. He has been after everything, hunting for

that ball and got his reward? I thought he would counterattack at

the end. This came from a line-out. This is preplanned, they go for the

middle row now and then they go inside and outside clean. They go

again. This is preplanned. Hadleigh Parkes has to be coming on the third

phase. If he doesn't score then you can bet money they have an overlap

on the outside. A great spot by the defender. A little bit of luck and a

bounce. This was a great finish. Got his feet in the air did really well.

If fares doesn't score, you have to take your chance. Take a bit of

depth, and, as you say, a classy finish from the winger. We have

talked about missed opportunities, let's look at some of them. They

could be out of sight by now? There were two tries they left out. I was

willing him over. I think I said if he had my size hands he would be OK.

It was a hard one, if he had three of them, the ball was flying

everywhere. They worked the ball. This is one where the footballing

skills let them down. They took one attacker out and he had a fair bit

more time. You have gone to a different clip and I don't know

where I am. Aaron Shingler showed great athleticism. On another day he

would have put that down. He was probably trying to force it down.

Emyr Phillips put that down, let down by small hands, maybe. Is that

a Donald Trump reference? Zebre, whenever they got into the 22 or the

half, they looked threatening. On one occasion, with the Bellini

tried, they pulled it off. A bit of analysis, what this scrum half

needs, he just checks and Shingler isn't there. It forces Hadleigh

Parkes in. It leaves Tom Williams in no man's land. He's got two choices.

McNicholl needs to take the man with the ball. It is well worked, just

subtle discrepancies. A good side will capitalise on that. Both second

rows get too close. This is where they get lazy. You need them to fold

in on the short side. This is preplanned, really well executed, on

the narrow side. The Scarlets responded really quickly. Tadhg

Beirne, as we have been discussing, I'm not sure Swansea City will

invite him for a trial. But it ultimately lead to a cracking try

because of Tom Williams' positioning awareness and pace? The mistake

happened, really chancing where to put the side spin on. It bounced

straight into his hands. A great finish, he had some heat on him. He

will be asking him for some beers tonight. Doesn't he look the part?

Tall, looks quick and strong. Whenever he has put on the Scarlets

shirt, he has made an impression. He could play up, I think. He has made

some mistakes, but who knows where the line is. He almost resurrected

his career since he came to the Scarlets. He has looked ever alert,

like you said? He does look comfortable, he came off his wing,

to the other side. You have seen him and Steph Evans and hacking

together. I think you might get another one. We will see in the

second half. Phil Steele has found in the crowd. He has only just come

out of the ice Bath after last week's game, what did you think? All

right, a bit scrappy, but we look comfortable. Disappointed conceding

a try off a set piece, but I am sure there will be more opportunities.

What did you think of the Tom Williams try? It was good, a bit of

a hack through, makes a habit of scoring at the moment. Tied up with

the Welsh squad, how important is it for you whether to stay in the top

four, when you come back you are ready to go again? We have a good

squad, more so maybe then we had for the last couple of seasons. The boys

are doing well when we go away. It is massive for us that we make the

top four. I think we are definitely good enough to win some silverware

this season. Well said, have a good run in Murrayfield.

Great to hear from the Scott Williams. Big game for him and his

Welsh colleagues at Murrayfield next weekend. Plenty to talk about.

We are just two rounds into the Six Nations and it's already delivered

some heart stopping encounters. With a Lion storm looming, everyone is

trying to catch the eye of the main man. Stuart Hogg is playing all

right. He missed a few tackles last week so he'll be looking at

improving his defensive staff. Join us on Sunday as we move find out

who's made Martin Williams's Lions 15 and we look ahead to the crunch

match in Murrayfield. All that to come on Scrum V 's Sunday and

there's another round of Pro12 fixtures to analyse. Leinster are

beating Edinburgh at the moment. Some cracking fixtures tomorrow. A

massive clash at the Liberty Stadium. Top of the table clash,

first against second as the Ospreys welcome monster. They'll be looking

for revenge after heavy defeat in November. -- Munster. Cracking game

in prospect. First against second. They are going to be heavy upfront

and Munster will come with a big back and try to take on the Ospreys.

They carry upfront in a number of different ways. Thrusting the

middleman forward. You have to watch the ninth. And then the kick and go,

which is a really good variety of forward play that Munster have. The

Ospreys have been working on a tactic to counter this. The double

tackle. I have some Scarlets Academy boys to show you. They will pass off

the deck and fit the middleman. What the Ospreys will try to do is have

one tackle coming in low under the ball and a second man coming high

over the top to smother the ball. Then they will try to thrust them

forward. That may stop the attack Munster have. There is a problem for

the defender. He has to watch this inside guy as well as push off. If

this nine scoops, he has to trap him in so it frees up some Munster

players. The nine is always a threat. If he watches his man too

much, through will go the ninth. It's a crucial area of the game

tomorrow. If the Ospreys defence can get it right, I reckon they will

take it and go top. Lovely stuff. If Sean sounded out of breath, he had

to sprint from the halfway line to under the posts! The Scarlets

players will also be out of breath. They are in the changing room

getting messages from the coaches. Some interesting stats. Scarlets

well ahead, they've had the Lions share of possession, but not great

on the handling errors. They are dropping balls uncharacteristically,

they will want to tighten that up in the second half. Despite not firing

on all cylinders, you look at the scoreboard, 21-7 and comfortable.

They'll be happy with that. The Ospreys would have been happy with

that last week, 10-0 at half-time. Not panic stations yet. They are

lucky the one try wasn't converted. He will be saying back to basics.

Get the territory, keep possession in the 22 and just have a bit of

patience. More tries will come. Got your breath back, Sean? Lovely run

up the touchline. Still got it. Talking about the Scarlets going

back to basics. They are one try from a bonus point. They have to get

that bonus point because Glasgow play Ulster tomorrow. They are fifth

and sixth. The Scarlets can open up a gap between them and the teams

beneath them with a bonus point. All the top boys will take a bonus point

at home against Zebre. They have plenty of time, a whole half to get

a tried and that's the most important thing. Don't force it, it

will come. Get the territory and take your jumps. The second half is

about to get underway. Let's rejoined the commentators.

Thanks. We caught a glimpse of a couple of substitutes, wearing 21

for the Scarlets, Aled Davies. And the experienced Valerio earn our bow

replaces Josh Furno for Zebre. -- Valerio Bernabo. Bordoli to start

the second half. Scarlets, three tries to one to the good. Amongst

all the stats produced these days, an interesting one in the first

half. Scarlets didn't concede a single penalty. We have the Zebre

coaching staff just across from us and they weren't happy with that.

5-0 penalty count. Not to give away a penalty in the first half, Pivac

and the Scarlets coaching staff will be very, very happy with that.

Sean mentioned getting the bonus point try, they will want it as

early as possible and put this game to bed.

Same standards, take the pressure off, wait for the ball. Clear? Thank

you. All the scrums in the first half

going with the put-in. Greeff coming in from his wing. Big Colma strong,

tall South African. They have a couple of big wingers who aren't

afraid to come in off the wings and carry, in fairness to them. It's

gone forward again. A bit of a scrappy start to the second half

with neither side being able to control possession. Dan Jones has

taken a blow as well, I think. While it was easy for Sean Holley to have

a trot down the field, Ian Gough had a couple of sets of steps to content

with. He does iron man these days so he's fitter than he was when he was

playing. I was hoping it wasn't heavy breathing or I might get some

complaints. I'm surprised Sean didn't pull his hamstring, he almost

broke into a jog! Dan Jones looking to give Scarlets

positioned downfield. Nicely aimed kick. A one hander. Scarlets are

doing -- what Scarlets did in the first half, Zebre are doing now,

taking quick throws and looking to up the tempo. Scarlets playing

terribly at the moment and Zebre are running it. Unconventional throw in.

Well held, Sir! Where exactly was it taken? He wants it to go back

downfield for the throw in. Not sure what Bordoli was looking at, whether

he thought he was outside his 22? It will be a line-out, anyway.

I think he's thought... You can't do that now, you can't step over and

take it. Which is sure Dan Jones was inside his 22 anyway. Really, really

scrappy first couple of minutes to this half. That's a six rather than

a catch on the boundary, I'm afraid! Coaches trying to calm it down and a

bit of territory for the first five minutes to ease their nerves and get

into the game. Have a look at this for a throw in. One-handed, Lord it

anywhere. All the best. He's got away with it! Baker. Did Gareth Rees

used to do the American football throw in? All the time. I camera

member the days when Gerald Davies and the wingers used to throw into

the line-out. Not quite as bad as that. He's a handful. Greeff. He's

broken through a couple of tackles. Bordoli trying the one-handed pass.

A chance for the Scarlets. It was all rushed. Good hands and a

powerful carry from Greeff on the right-wing. Bumps Johnny McNicholl

out of the way. He's got strength as well to go over Hadleigh Parkes and

stay in play. They've created some really nice opportunities. Quick

hands from Baker. He can take quick throw ins and he's got good hands as

well. I think Price will be a bit gutted

with that. He tried to rush it and didn't realise he had more time than

he thought. Ended up in tears for him.

Greeff again. It's their fair old boot as well.

Good kick. Just stuck a bit instead of running away, but still

effective. Over the head of Violi. Steph Evans, the crowd want him to

run. He spotted a big gap on the other side of the field. He needed

that one to stick like Dan Jones's. Definitely a change in intent in the

Scarlets play. Everything first off was keep the ball in hand. Getting

into the corners, playing the territory game. Trying to calm it

down. They need one try for the bonus point and once they get that

the floodgates will open. It's getting a run of play to allow them

to do it. Good burst by Will Boyde. Now links

up, but doesn't link up with Johnny McNicholl. There was one delayed to

many, maybe. He's got to be careful, Tom Price. Can't grab people around

the head like that. A bit of frustration from the Scarlets, I

think. 15. One. Just relax. You're not going to use language like that

on the field now, is that clear? Just giving you some advice. Do you

want to leave the field? No. When the whistle has gone, you leave it.

And relax. Just calm it down, boys. Let's not get over the top. Good

overprotective of his scrum-half, maybe. Just going in for a bit of a

cuddle. He probably smells very nice. Full-backs always put on nice

It's just bubbling under the surface. Over the surface on a few

occasions in the second half. Dan Jones in the middle of it as well.

He fancies himself as a scrapper. Last place you'd expect him. A

scrum-half in there, outside-half. When the whistle goes, we don't get

involved off the ball. Don't jeopardise your penalty. Is that

clear? Let's go. I think James Davies again.

Nothing. Aled Davies has just gone into the back of one of the Zebre

players. Nobody throws a punch, everybody pushes each other and it

ends up with a line-out. Shingler takes the line-out. Tadgh Beirne

drives it on. Elias makes sure it doesn't get driven over the

touchline. Plenty of forwards to choose from. Aaron Shingler is the

first of them. Davies fires it out and it's taken over by Tom Price for

the Scarlets's bonus point try! He's going to be happy with that. Beirne

putting in crossfield kicks with a deft touch and now Price firing

over. Good intensity from the Scarlets. They stayed on the front

foot and Zebre couldn't put a decent, structured defence in. Taken

very well. That will be 30 metres by tonight as well. The first try for

Tom Price. It's one which will secure a bonus point which will keep

the Scarlets in the top four and in the hunt. A really, really scrappy

start to the second half, the first ten minutes, but the Scarlets won't

mind that. Another five points in the bag. The challenge for Zebre,

don't fall apart. They have played some decent rugby in the first 15

minutes. Their concentration levels and their discipline keeps letting

them down. The Scarlets have to be careful because there's been some

frustration creeping into the Zebre play and some pushing and shoving.

We didn't see that in the first half. They can't get embroiled. The

Scarlets have given away a lot of yellow cards and penalties this

season. They have to let Zebre get on with it and keep putting tries on

the board. A change for Zebre. The debut for Davide Zanetti. He

replaces makeshift flanker Olivier Aero Fabiani. Therein lies the

problem. A young player on permit. They haven't got strength in depth.

Great take by James Davies. Brilliant take by James Davies. You

can't keep him out of the game. Hadleigh Parkes, the glue that keeps

them together. Steff Hughes driving forwards. Steff Evans in off the

wing. The Scarlets with a spring in their step after getting the bonus

point. The weight is off their shoulders. A hot potato for Johnny

McNicholl tonight. He's having one of those nights. Dan Jones to

Hadleigh Parkes again. Wyn Jones driven back by the double

tackle. Davies carries defenders with him

into the 22. Steff Hughes to Steff Evans. A little over eager to keep

it alive and the ball turned over to D'Apice. As it goes back to Tom

Price, they'll come back for the scrum. A shame because the Scarlets,

you can see confidence brimming. Confidence has eroded with Zebre. He

didn't need to try that flight. You have to realise when it's on and not

on. They were attacking with purpose. They are playing a much

more confident game. You can't keep him out of the game.

He's got all the skills, James Davies. He'll be frustrated he's not

involved in the Six Nations with Wales, but he's got to keep plugging

away and keep doing what he's doing with the Scarlets. A few of those

Six Nations boys with a weekend off, coming down to support the other

players. Still not one penalty given away by

the Scarlets. They were the most penalised side in the league before

tonight! Good defending by Steff Evans. Nice

touch again from Bisegni, the Zebre 13. He looks a decent player at

Koegelenberg. Ryan Elias, excellent work at the breakdown. Zebre have

gone from the driving line-out. Because they haven't got any

momentum, it's as if they haven't got a plan B and they have planned

for it not working. The outside-half has come through a couple of phases.

Alliances very good over the ball as well. -- Elias very good. James

Davies at halfway. Return pass for Gareth Owen. Davies driven off it

illegally. Game three too quickly. The Zebre players are getting very,

very frustrated. Good adventure from the Scarlets. Serafin Bordoli

struggling a little bit. Great play by Dan Jones. All the Zebre players

had turned their backs. Good into linking from James Davies and Gareth

Owen. From the side, off his feet. Wait, wait, wait. Here comes James

Davies, straightens up. Taken on by Luke Garrett. Just about

held onto by Josh Macleod. Bodies all over it. It's really

slowed it down for the Scarlets. Dan Jones with a kick to nothing. Almost

but I'm not sure if there was any contact on the ground. At first I

thought why kick the ball, but the way it bounced, it was all on for

him. Try it, yes or no, we'll look at it now.

He knew he had the advantage. They had the penalties so why not try the

little chip. He's missed that. Just bounced. I have a decision. The ball

You will take the scrum all day long if you're the Scarlets. Number ten.

Mickey -- Nicky Thomas, who is joined the Scarlets until the end of

the season. I would have waited until after the scrum to make that

substitution. The referee is slightly in the way

of Will Boyde. Aled Davies looks up and sees plenty

of forwards alongside him. Managed to keep Tom Williams out,

back for another penalty and yellow card. Andrew Brace has just warned

the captain. Nicky Thomas did a fantastic job, Andrew Brace then got

in the way of Will Boyde, going down the blindside.

Nicky Thomas came through the Ospreys Academy. Luke Garrett, I was

at the Dragons with him as well. A young pairing that did fantastically

well in the scrum. For any young kids watching, that is not how to

tackle, with your head. No arms or shoulders, that is how you seriously

get injured. You can see why he has been yellow carded. I think he will

wear a head guard from now on if he will continue tackling like that.

Bruno Postiglioni has only just come on. We are going to have passive

scrums. I can imagine Nicky Thomas being

gutted about that. Had a good, dominant scrum, the young lads

trying to make their name and they don't get a chance to make their

attempt. He will put one of the props into hooker, I think. Derick

Minnie has moved into hooker. He is playing in the back row. They had a

look as flanker, they could bring him back on. He is an international

hooker. Unless he has played hooker before. Not many flankers were

holding their hands up. If it carries on like that, they

might just concede it. They have swaps shirts as flanker.

That is a tremendous scrum from the Scarlets. No doubt at all, they

couldn't get there and their own steam. The referee, straight under

the posts for a penalty try. It will be a very happy new front row that

have come on. This is exactly what you want. You want that scrum. You

want one thought out against the opposition. That is exactly what

they have done. The last three scrums have been very good for them.

Now they have their just deserts. The penalty try will go for all of

them. They are decimated now, Zebre. Down to 14 men. Must be so

difficult, every week, when you go away, at least 30 or 40 points. All

five tries converted. The Scarlets looking good. Let's go back down to

fillip. Will you be going to temperature

tomorrow? One of my friends, Adam Clarke, is on the bench. Hopefully

it will be a good game. I might show my face. Back in camp, you had a bit

of a bee -- beasting? It was a tough day, hopefully we get the rewards

next week. You are not bound to come here, what does it say about the

spirit in the squad? It's brilliant, these boys, the International boys,

when they are away, they have had a 100% record. It is credit to them,

get behind them. It is huge for us when we are away with the

internationals and they can get results, it is huge for us as a

team. Going back to Pembrokeshire, I know you are a very proud

Pembrokeshire man. How much do you feel you are visiting the county

when you play for the Scarlets and Wales? I love the Scarlets, its

Pembrokeshire region, really. I do feel proud. It's nice to represent

them and do my best. Have a good run in Murrayfield. Top man.

Dion Berryman, the New Zealander, replacing another. The Hamilton man

replacing the one from Palmerston North.

Palazzani has joined the forwards. He is certainly being tied into it

now, whether he meant to or not. Overcooked, the replacement

scrum-half. Tadhg Beirne has been impressive, he had a good season.

They are so disjointed, Zebre, the minute. Seven forwards on the field,

you are always going to be up against it.

All of the replacement is being used. That is Tom Phillips, the

former captain. The pass was poor. It wasn't Johnny

McNicholl's fault. Bad play from Scarlets. Really good scrum. Really

good platform. Poor passing and poor lines of running. That is on Steff

Hughes, it is a really bad pass. So difficult to take when you are on

the run. It's funny, when it doesn't go your

way, sometimes it just doesn't go your way. That happens, you drop a

couple early on and you start giving passes like that.

Leinster have secured a bonus point at home to Edinburgh. Consolidating

third spot. Ospreys and Munster were the top

two. There won't be when they come to face each other tomorrow.

Great work by Tadhg Beirne, but they stole it back, in fairness to Zebre.

Some good boys over the ball, Scarlets. Josh Macleod, Tadhg

Beirne. You know, very adept at stealing the ball.

Just got a tad messy, just lost a bit of steam. The Scarlets were on

the edge of their confidence, about five or ten minutes ago. They have

just gone down to Zebre's level for the last couple of minutes. Coming

up to the last ten minutes, they want to finish the game in style.

They want to get the new boys to come on. Gel them in and get a

performance to finish the game and be happy with. Connacht Dragons on

S4C tomorrow night. McNicholl hence the charge to cover

that. Aled Davies, making sure the cover

is good enough to get away the clearance kick. That will be a

line-out, inside the Scarlets 22. They just didn't have the flow. They

were trying to force the move when it wasn't quite one. Sensing, could

we go through with it? Just on the back foot, they didn't quite get to

go forward. Only about 15 metres out, defending the line-up.

Dion Berryman steps in, the scrum-half. That makes it Scarlets

Paul. -- ball. The ball spins away from Aled

Davies. Into the side came the Zebre players. Good turn of pace by Elias.

I was looking around to whether support was and they were not within

ten yards of them. He just needed someone on his shoulder to back him

up. The indiscipline Zebre, it's interesting to see how many

penalties they have given away so far. 13 penalties they have conceded

so far. You know, that makes it even tougher. That has given the Scarlets

a great position, about ten yards from their line.

A good counter from Tadhg Beirne. He's been really impressive tonight,

he has done all of the hard graft. And put the try in the hands of Tom

Williams. He did! Will Boyde is straight through and

beneath the posts, more less. The referee is not sure what to do.

Stood behind the ball, staring, thinking, how did he go through

there? A right sneak thief of a try, he took the referee's Wallace at the

same time. One of those occasions where everybody stop some things,

something must have been wrong. He took it very well, underneath the

post. Let's have a look. They can't see the ball. I think it is Fabiani.

He has no idea where the ball is. There he is. Nothing wrong with that

whatsoever. Because the Zebre players have stopped, he knows where

the ball is. Ethic was a pantomime, there would

be shouting, behind you! He deserves that, he has worked

hard. Aled Thomas keeps up the kicking record with every one of the

six tries being converted. He has had a decent game, Boyd. You can't

fault their work. Scarlets on their way to their

biggest win of the season. A dangerous pass. But it has worked

out OK. Here comes Steff Evans, picking up the pace. A lovely run

from Evans. He takes the defenders with him. Still going.

Aled Davies, so close, over the try line. The ball held up, although he

is not sure. Now he does give the decision, no try. What a great run

by Steff Evans. He could have passed once or twice

before. Great cover from the Zebre defence. Good refereeing to get into

position to see he was being held up. Normally the easy thing would be

to go straight to the TMO. He was on spot and made the call straightaway.

Koegelenberg turned him. He has great feet, a great balanced runner.

There, keep going. A great platform for the Scarlets to

run things off. Zebre will have to settle for a

scrum in the end. When forward one way and then the other.

You are picking man of the match tonight? Big performances, James

Davies did his usual stint, outstanding for 60 minutes. Dan

Jones controlled it really well. But I'm going to go for Tadhg Beirne. He

did a full shift, did the donkey work. A beautiful, cultured right

foot. Tadhg Beirne has got himself a man

of the match award this evening. Always nice to see second row is

getting the man of the match. Well, you were sitting next to me.

Subliminal messages were coming. I like to give it to somebody who has

been on for the entire duration. He put in a huge counter about five or

ten minutes ago, just when you thought he would be tired, looking

for the subs bench to give him a rest, he is still smashing into

rucks. Mattia Bellini got over with a

conversion to draw them level at 7-7. And since then, Scarlets have

dominated, as expected. If they win by this scoreline,

everybody says they should. They have been scrappy and parts, but

showed how dangerous they can be as well. They have sterner tests ahead

of them. They have got the five points.

Greg -- good hands, and across with the tackle, man of the match Tadhg

Beirne. Again, some lovely little touches. Times his pass to

perfection. This, in the 79th minute, from Tadhg Beirne, a great

effort to get across. Against a big, strong winger. That is a fine

tackle. In the first minute that would have been big, and he has won

the line-up as well. You don't know the lottery numbers,

do you? I think Tadhg should! It is just the organisation, the

decision-making and discipline that lets them down all the time. He has

been pretty impressive, as well. That is what let Zebre down. A

disappointing end to the game for Zebre, but anything but

disappointment for the Scarlets. Three tries in each half, they

needed a bonus point to stay in the top four and make sure they were to

keep the pressure on. That is exactly what they did. A bit untidy

at times, but more than enough to keep them happy. 6-1 four tries, and

the Scarlets winning run continues. One defeat in the last 12 for them.

They are on a roll, seven wins out of seven. Zebre, with one win all

season, are going to be rooted to the bottom of the table.

21 points in the first half, 21 in the second as well. Tom Price

getting on the scoresheet. A penalty try shortly afterwards, no

hesitation from Andrew Brace. Then this, from Will Boyde. Just stolen

from under their noses, strolled over the line. Great try from the

back row forward. This is the table as it stands. Leinster are

comfortable you had against -- comfortably ahead. Scarlets are

guaranteed fourth, courtesy of the bonus point victory. Phil Steele is

Tadhg Beirne. Congratulations, how did you enjoy it? It was a tough

game. The ball was in play for a long time. You often feel a little

bit like they were turning it around a bit. When we did get into the

game, we knew that there would be a lot of ball in play. I think we

tired them out, got a view tries and got the bonus point. How nice does

it feel to get gametime? It was a frustrating start for me, I didn't

get the gametime I was looking for. I came over here and got an
