Europe's biggest and best rugby tournament is up and running and

:00:22.:00:26.

Wales have begun with a nerve shredding draw in Dublin. We have

:00:27.:00:30.

got a panel tonight full of players who know exactly how to win this

:00:31.:00:34.

tournament. Put your hands together for Jonathan Davies. Sir Gareth

:00:35.:00:43.

Edwards. Jonathan Thomas. And our star at the bar is Rhys Williams. We

:00:44.:00:52.

will also be catching up with Wales' women. Six Nations 2016 is underway.

:00:53.:01:05.

The start of the 2016 Six Nations. Conor Murray on his own! He is over!

:01:06.:01:13.

That is such a classy finish. Jack Nowell for the corner. What a try!

:01:14.:01:21.

Faletau comes away with it and scores. That is the end of it. It is

:01:22.:01:24.

a draw. Well, we have had a few hours to

:01:25.:01:40.

recover. That was tense, brutal, have you got any fingernails left? I

:01:41.:01:44.

have still got them. It was an intense game but I am slightly

:01:45.:01:49.

frustrated because Wales had an opportunity to win it. They went in

:01:50.:01:55.

front and then they had a drop goal. I think they may be more

:01:56.:02:00.

disappointed than Ireland. Do you agree with that, Gareth? Wales have

:02:01.:02:04.

left Dublin with a point but will they feel aggrieved they did not

:02:05.:02:09.

come away with a win? They could have, they had chances, but matches

:02:10.:02:13.

don't always go the way you wish them to go. By the end of the week,

:02:14.:02:18.

I think Wales will be happy they got a draw because they could easily

:02:19.:02:23.

have lost as well. Having said that, they got into a position towards the

:02:24.:02:26.

end of the match where I thought they would only be one winner.

:02:27.:02:31.

Kissing my sister is what Warren Gatland said after the draw. The one

:02:32.:02:37.

thing I took away, it was heart stopping and nail-biting but it was

:02:38.:02:41.

brutal as well. I did not think they could keep up that level of

:02:42.:02:45.

intensity. It is what we have come to expect from Wales against

:02:46.:02:50.

Ireland. The last few games have followed the same pattern. From both

:02:51.:02:57.

teams, I agree, Wales will be the most disappointed. Ireland are team

:02:58.:03:00.

in transition. They had a lot of injuries. And we are well balanced

:03:01.:03:05.

and well settled team with a lot of caps. The fact we have got three

:03:06.:03:10.

home games coming up, it was a really good opportunity to win the

:03:11.:03:13.

Grand Slam this year, but that has gone. Naturally, there is

:03:14.:03:20.

disappointment. You don't know what to think, do you? Let's watch it

:03:21.:03:27.

again. The final whistle did blow to three hours ago. Let's remind

:03:28.:03:33.

ourselves how it all unfolded. Wales went with two open sides,

:03:34.:03:38.

meaning a start for Justin Tipuric as Sam moves to number six. Tom

:03:39.:03:43.

James got his first cap since 2010 and there was a late call-up for

:03:44.:03:46.

Liam Williams in place of Gareth Anscombe. No Paul O'Connell for

:03:47.:03:52.

Ireland. Rory Best leading from the front. This Irish side was far from

:03:53.:03:54.

full strength. Sexton. These senses in combination

:03:55.:04:14.

-- centres in combination but Wales disrupt the move. But they are

:04:15.:04:16.

offside. Penalty against Jamie Roberts. Rory

:04:17.:04:50.

Best to Tommy O'Donnell. Luke Charteris holds him up for a moment.

:04:51.:04:53.

No advantage, penalty to Ireland. Two out of two for Jonny Sexton.

:04:54.:05:14.

6-0, Ireland league. The 22 for Wales. Rhys Priestland is on the

:05:15.:05:15.

touchline. Dan Biggar is coming off. O'Donnell with the line-out. Heaslip

:05:16.:05:28.

for the line. O'Donnell could not quite get there. It is all Ireland.

:05:29.:05:35.

They try again. They are over the line. Is it down?

:05:36.:05:44.

Conor Murray on his own! He is over and scores!

:05:45.:06:08.

Alun Wyn Jones of the top. Jonathan Davies in midfield. Priestland. Liam

:06:09.:06:13.

Williams. I think they are going to check the

:06:14.:06:24.

tackle. Keith Earls is probably a tad lucky to get away with that

:06:25.:06:28.

first action. A possible three points for Wales to get back in the

:06:29.:06:36.

game. Rhys Priestland. Sends it high and straight between the posts.

:06:37.:06:38.

Wales are on the board. Wales go again. Faletau comes away

:06:39.:06:52.

with it, reaches out and scores! Fantastic work by the Walsh number

:06:53.:06:56.

eight of the back of the scrum. He controlled it really well and before

:06:57.:06:58.

you knew it he was over the line. Penalty against Tommy O'Donnell.

:06:59.:07:09.

Rhys Priestland to level the scores. The tallest man in the Irish side,

:07:10.:07:49.

Devin Toner, CJ Stander. Wales claim the turnover.

:07:50.:07:54.

And it is going to be. Penalty advantage to Wales. Priestland. It

:07:55.:08:03.

is a great clearance by Rhys Priestland.

:08:04.:08:09.

A good pick-up by Jack McGrath. Conor Murray. Sexton on the wide

:08:10.:08:17.

loop. A brilliant break. Can they finish? Andrew Trimble. Tom James

:08:18.:08:21.

with the tackle! Ireland turn the ball over at last.

:08:22.:08:32.

Huge roar goes up at the Aviva Stadium. Wales disrupt and start the

:08:33.:08:38.

counter attack. Wales back in possession. And it is the penalty at

:08:39.:08:42.

last. This is for the lead. Rhys

:08:43.:08:53.

Priestland. That is a marvellous kick.

:08:54.:09:00.

New scrum half, Lloyd Williams. The man whose left boot delivered the

:09:01.:09:07.

kick that beat England. Not so good on that occasion.

:09:08.:09:16.

What a kick by Jonny Sexton. We are all square.

:09:17.:09:28.

So that was the match, this is the Verdict.

:09:29.:09:37.

We are a little bit flat at the moment. A disappointing first 20

:09:38.:09:41.

minutes and after that we got ourselves back into the game.

:09:42.:09:45.

Frustrated we got ourselves in front and then gave away a soft penalty

:09:46.:09:51.

with a bit of inaccuracy. We are probably a little bit unfortunate

:09:52.:09:55.

with the result. Wales probably had more of the ball and the field

:09:56.:10:00.

position. In the second half, turning 13-10, they would have felt

:10:01.:10:04.

confident because there was a breeze out there. Once they went 16-13

:10:05.:10:11.

ahead, we probably were fortunate. A win would have set us up nicely for

:10:12.:10:16.

this championship. If you want to win the Six Nations, you have got to

:10:17.:10:21.

get a big away scalp and we were hoping this was it, but Ireland have

:10:22.:10:25.

been champions the last two years, so a draw here is a good result from

:10:26.:10:30.

a neutral's perspective, but we are ambitious and want to win the title.

:10:31.:10:36.

Wales come and they are physical and you know you have got to front up

:10:37.:10:40.

and for the large part we did that. There are a lot of sore bodies in

:10:41.:10:45.

there. That red wave, when they get the ball, they keep coming at you.

:10:46.:10:49.

And when you have the ball you know you have to keep going at them

:10:50.:10:52.

because they have dangerous players like Sam and Justin in there. Yes,

:10:53.:11:00.

sore bodies. Perhaps on reflection a fair result for both teams. Apart

:11:01.:11:05.

from the weather conditions, we both tried to place in rugby, which was

:11:06.:11:09.

positive. I think Rory Best summed it up best.

:11:10.:11:13.

There will be lots of sore bodies tomorrow. It was a brutal match. No

:11:14.:11:19.

one typified that more than Jamie Roberts, who put a heck of a shift

:11:20.:11:25.

in today. Man of the Match for you? I think he was up there with Faletau

:11:26.:11:32.

and Stander, who got the Man of the Match. He had a word with Henshaw

:11:33.:11:37.

when he got up there as well. He carried the ball as well. A typical

:11:38.:11:43.

effort from Jamie, but I thought Faletau was immense as well, the way

:11:44.:11:48.

he took his try. But Jamie was up there as one of the candidates.

:11:49.:11:54.

Standout man for you, Gareth? I think everybody has said it already.

:11:55.:11:59.

Jamie Roberts was quite outstanding. Through defence. We are all looking

:12:00.:12:03.

for an attacking performance from Wales but we are talking about a

:12:04.:12:08.

centre having a great game as a defensive player. His tackling was

:12:09.:12:14.

immense. Thank God I am not playing the modern game! But fully deserved.

:12:15.:12:18.

We talk about the character shown by Wales and we have talked about this

:12:19.:12:22.

a lot over the years. You have been part of that squad and Warren

:12:23.:12:27.

Gatland but their heads never dipped, their composure did not

:12:28.:12:31.

desert them when they went 13-0 down. That is a hallmark of this

:12:32.:12:37.

side. Definitely. I think Warburton referenced it after the game. Two

:12:38.:12:42.

years ago they went down and they almost caved in. I think the site

:12:43.:12:48.

has progressed a lot and it is the DNA of the side. It is what we are

:12:49.:12:54.

always very proud of with this team, the defensive effort, the breakdown

:12:55.:12:59.

work, the line speed in defence. You can never questioned that about this

:13:00.:13:04.

team. One big positive was the scrum. They were eyebrows raised

:13:05.:13:09.

when Rob Evans was picked ahead of Gethin Jenkins. That is probably the

:13:10.:13:15.

special mention I would give. Along with Faletau and Jamie, this was a

:13:16.:13:18.

massive Test match for him, being picked in front of a 120 cap,

:13:19.:13:25.

three-time British Lion, and he has delivered. It is the best the Welsh

:13:26.:13:29.

scrum has been for some time. Taulupe Faletau, you mentioned him

:13:30.:13:35.

earlier. He does everything so good and does all the dirty work. He did

:13:36.:13:41.

a fantastic tackle on Zebo when they went outside and I think they lost

:13:42.:13:45.

control of the ball in the scrum. They could have gone for the penalty

:13:46.:13:50.

try. But it's squirted out and he had a lot to do and he finished it.

:13:51.:13:55.

He is just a great player. That is something you can pick out when he

:13:56.:13:59.

scores tries, but it is all the other work he does every other

:14:00.:14:04.

minute of the game. He has got great feat. When he is under pressure, he

:14:05.:14:11.

has got a friend, he has got the agility to get outside someone. I

:14:12.:14:15.

think he is the complete package. What about the back row balance? A

:14:16.:14:19.

round of applause for Taulupe Faletau. What about the balance of

:14:20.:14:30.

the back row today? Dan Lydiate, according to Warren Gatland, was fit

:14:31.:14:34.

and ready to start but he made the decision to go with Justin Tipuric.

:14:35.:14:40.

Was it a good balance today? I think it was the right decision because

:14:41.:14:43.

Warburton has not played much and Dan Lydiate has not played much so

:14:44.:14:47.

you would not go into a Test match with two guys who have not played

:14:48.:14:53.

much rugby. Justin Tipuric has been fantastic for two years. It was not

:14:54.:14:58.

a compromise. And it was one of those games where it was not the

:14:59.:15:03.

ideal game for Tipuric to come into his own in the wider channels and to

:15:04.:15:07.

show his ball-handling skills but he still showed very well. I think they

:15:08.:15:13.

targeted the ruck area. With two openside flanker is, they were only

:15:14.:15:19.

seven turnovers each side. I think Ireland did their homework. They

:15:20.:15:22.

held them up in the tackle but when they went to ground, they cleared

:15:23.:15:27.

out straightaway. It was very difficult for Tipuric or Warburton

:15:28.:15:32.

to get the turnovers because they were so precise in their cleaning

:15:33.:15:40.

out. On the edge, they cleaned out anyway, Ireland. CJ Stander looked

:15:41.:15:44.

good and they did not miss Peter O'Mahony and Sean O'Brien like they

:15:45.:15:50.

might have. I think he was probably, by default, through injuries, he has

:15:51.:15:56.

probably put his hand up to be there for the next ten years. The Irish

:15:57.:16:00.

teams are always blessed with a lot of talent but I agree with Jonathan,

:16:01.:16:06.

Ireland would have put so much emphasis on the breakdown because

:16:07.:16:09.

they knew Tipuric and Warburton would be playing and you could see

:16:10.:16:13.

in the first 20 minutes, they were blowing... They slowed a lot of ball

:16:14.:16:19.

down. I want to ask you about the tip tackle. Some outrage on social

:16:20.:16:24.

media he should have been yellow carded. What did you make of it? It

:16:25.:16:29.

could have changed the complexion of the game. I think he was somewhat

:16:30.:16:35.

unfortunate. When I saw him there, he reminds me of a salmon I once

:16:36.:16:40.

caught which I almost lost. Liam looked to be trying to get out of

:16:41.:16:44.

the tackle and I think the guided well but you can't drop people these

:16:45.:16:48.

days. To the letter of the law, it is a yellow card. But I thought that

:16:49.:16:55.

the referee did exceptionally well. You have got to take every tackle on

:16:56.:17:00.

its own merit. He slipped out, he did not control him going down, but

:17:01.:17:05.

Priestland goes for the intercept and how many times have we seen

:17:06.:17:09.

someone go for the intercept, yellow card. I think that is pathetic as

:17:10.:17:15.

well. I think he referee became sensibly with empathy towards the

:17:16.:17:20.

game and I thought, he could have given the yellow card, but it was

:17:21.:17:24.

the right decision. I am interested to get your thoughts on the Wales

:17:25.:17:28.

attack and what has changed. Use vote to Rob Howley last week about

:17:29.:17:33.

how it needs to evolve. What did you see that might encourage you? I

:17:34.:17:38.

think they are trying to get wide. This is one example of it. They have

:17:39.:17:43.

got to engage in that defender. I think that is Stander. If you look

:17:44.:17:49.

at what happens, the first two go through on a dummy and then Tipuric

:17:50.:17:55.

drops back outside the centre, outside Liam Williams. The three men

:17:56.:18:00.

they had as an overlap, none of them are used, and the guy they should

:18:01.:18:04.

have held up makes the tackle on Jonathan Davies. They are trying to

:18:05.:18:08.

play wide but they are not engaging the defenders. If the donor runner

:18:09.:18:13.

-- dummy runner is running, you have got to act as if you are a dummy

:18:14.:18:19.

runner, not just wander in front of someone. And I don't understand when

:18:20.:18:23.

you have got an extra man, white using as a decoy? I remember a try

:18:24.:18:28.

against Wales at the Millennium Stadium a few years ago, they were a

:18:29.:18:35.

fullback line of forwards and everyone of them handle the ball and

:18:36.:18:40.

put the winger in for a try. If they are trying to play that, they have

:18:41.:18:44.

got to engage defenders, otherwise they will drift and push you into

:18:45.:18:50.

touch. Unfortunately, we had 25 phases today and I am not sure if we

:18:51.:18:55.

looked like scoring. Sometimes you need someone to go like this and

:18:56.:18:59.

break the line and once you get behind the gain line, the defensive

:19:00.:19:05.

are slightly disorganised. Like Shane did now won again. Maybe

:19:06.:19:09.

Matthew Morgan on the bench to come on and do something. Once you break

:19:10.:19:13.

the line, you have got a chance of doing something. They are trying but

:19:14.:19:20.

they have got to be a bit sharper. I spoke to Gwyn Jones after the game.

:19:21.:19:25.

He was commentating in Dublin today. I asked him what Wales could have

:19:26.:19:30.

done differently. What we will do is look at the way we attack. We have

:19:31.:19:35.

got a very good scrum, the line-out was very good, so with a good set

:19:36.:19:40.

piece and the powerful middle of the field, two Lions, perhaps we did not

:19:41.:19:45.

play in a on the superiority we have there. I think perhaps we were

:19:46.:19:51.

trying to overplay a little bit. We were passing the ball a lot, long

:19:52.:19:56.

passes, and perhaps we are trying to develop a more open style but that

:19:57.:20:00.

does isolated out wide, especially if we are going to leave hawkers and

:20:01.:20:04.

second rows in wider channels. They have got to be as outer bull as

:20:05.:20:09.

people like Brodie Retallick and Dane Coles in open spaces. Those are

:20:10.:20:14.

skills that are going to take a long time to develop. But it is good to

:20:15.:20:19.

see that we are developing and evolving our style of play. Much was

:20:20.:20:24.

made before the game about the fact Wales were picking two genuine

:20:25.:20:30.

severance, two specialist open side. How did you see the breakdown today?

:20:31.:20:35.

We were on the back foot for a lot of the first half. They were

:20:36.:20:40.

recycling the ball very quickly. We were not quite as effective as we

:20:41.:20:44.

usually are in the tackle area. Sam Warburton 12 penalties. I am not

:20:45.:20:50.

sure Justin Tipuric one any. He is an attacking threat. I like the

:20:51.:20:56.

balance of a six and a seven. It would be harsh on Justin Tipuric to

:20:57.:20:59.

leave him out after one game but we want to see him with ball in hand at

:21:00.:21:04.

acting. And I don't think we see is the best of Sam Warburton when he is

:21:05.:21:08.

blind side. He is at his best when he is the first arrival at the

:21:09.:21:15.

tackle area. He wins penalties. But we have so many good players in that

:21:16.:21:18.

area it would be harsh to leave anyone out. I like a six and a

:21:19.:21:23.

seven. Thank you for your time and enjoy the Irish hospitality.

:21:24.:21:28.

One man who has got very fond memories of playing against Ireland

:21:29.:21:32.

in Dublin is our star at the bar. He made his step you against them in

:21:33.:21:34.

2000, Rhys Williams. As this is a milestone, we thought

:21:35.:21:49.

we would delve into the archives and remind ourselves of that day in

:21:50.:21:55.

2000. You were a little bit more freshfaced. What memories do you

:21:56.:22:01.

have of this day? Are they still vivid? Without a doubt. The best day

:22:02.:22:08.

in any rugby player's career is their first cap. Ireland can be a

:22:09.:22:12.

graveyard but we came away with a victory and I managed a couple of

:22:13.:22:16.

breaks as well. It is a day I will remember for ever. It was an

:22:17.:22:20.

interesting day for fullbacks today as well because Liam Williams had

:22:21.:22:24.

travelled as a reserve with the squad, he was thrust straight in

:22:25.:22:28.

after just 60 minutes of rugby. How would he have felt? I think it would

:22:29.:22:34.

just have been excitement. When you are thrown in that late in the day,

:22:35.:22:38.

they probably made the call last night, so we would have had the

:22:39.:22:41.

night to think about it, but you have got to go wholeheartedly. He is

:22:42.:22:47.

that type of player anyway. You saw out in Connacht, he wants to get his

:22:48.:22:51.

hands on the ball and make an impact. He made a couple of good

:22:52.:22:55.

runs, took a couple of high balls, but was not given enough space for

:22:56.:22:59.

us to see the dangerous runner he is. He was the top carrier and top

:23:00.:23:04.

in terms of meat is made with 95. Fair play to perform like that. As

:23:05.:23:10.

an attacking fullback yourself, would you prefer to see the ball in

:23:11.:23:14.

the hands of players like Liam Williams more often? Without a

:23:15.:23:20.

doubt. Perhaps in the backline today, we did not look as crisp and

:23:21.:23:25.

maybe as in packed full as we can. We took the ball quite deep and with

:23:26.:23:29.

the way Ireland defended, they drifted and in that case you have

:23:30.:23:33.

got to take the ball to the line little bit more. Those missed passes

:23:34.:23:39.

behind players really do not engage defenders so for your 15, 11 and 14

:23:40.:23:44.

to have some room, you have got to engage in sight defenders and get

:23:45.:23:50.

flat. Briefly, Rhys Priestland came on after 20 minutes. He was probably

:23:51.:23:55.

not expecting that. We thought he had retired for 18 months. I was

:23:56.:24:00.

really pleased for him. He would have been nervous coming on. I think

:24:01.:24:04.

a lot of Welsh supporters were nervous for him. But he had a great

:24:05.:24:10.

second half. Really pressure kicks and he nailed them. It will do him

:24:11.:24:14.

the world of good to have that performance under his belt because

:24:15.:24:18.

we may need him for the next few games. We don't know how Dan Biggar

:24:19.:24:23.

is. It is great for us and we need to have pressure on places for our

:24:24.:24:26.

team to do well throughout the tournament. We will catch up again

:24:27.:24:31.

before the end of the tournament. We will turn our attention now to

:24:32.:24:35.

yesterday's games and the new England era under Eddie Jones

:24:36.:24:39.

started with a trip north to face a resurgent Scotland.

:24:40.:24:44.

Scotland did not pick up a single point in last year's Six Nations and

:24:45.:24:49.

they had not scored a try against England at Murrayfield since 2014.

:24:50.:24:53.

And the spotlight was on another battle of sixes and sevens.

:24:54.:25:00.

Scotland's John Hardie and John Barclay against England's James

:25:01.:25:04.

Haskell and Chris Robshaw. And would-be home side tried to wind up

:25:05.:25:08.

the new skipper, Dylan Hartley? And would he bike?

:25:09.:25:16.

There is Nowell. Chipping and chasing himself. Stuart Hogg under

:25:17.:25:24.

pressure. It is a five metre scrum to England. Taken over.

:25:25.:25:30.

No quarter given by either side here. Danny Care complains. Billy

:25:31.:25:41.

Vunipola four meat is short. England still have it. Danny Care gives it

:25:42.:25:49.

to the big men. And Kruis gets over for the try. George Chris has scored

:25:50.:25:53.

for England! A big squeeze coming in from

:25:54.:26:03.

Scotland this time and trying to do something but Billy Vunipola just

:26:04.:26:11.

grabbed and went. The scrum is in a bit of bother. Joe Launchbury did

:26:12.:26:15.

well there as well. But Scotland have the penalty right in front of

:26:16.:26:19.

the posts. The decision of hanging onto the ball.

:26:20.:26:26.

Greig Laidlaw draws his side to within one point.

:26:27.:26:33.

No one is stood in the pocket at the moment. Nobody the drop goal yet.

:26:34.:26:42.

Not yet thinking of it. Giving it to forwards again. Richie Gray. He is

:26:43.:26:50.

there now. Drifting back for the drop goal for Finn Russell and it is

:26:51.:26:51.

wide. It is an ugly one. Scotland getting closer now. With

:26:52.:27:03.

every inch and yard made, the decibel level rises. Greig Laidlaw

:27:04.:27:10.

again digs and feeds Russell. Slammed back by Dan Cole and Kruis.

:27:11.:27:20.

They go again through Bennett. And a penalty in the end to England. Phase

:27:21.:27:25.

after phase. A shake of the head from Greig Laidlaw but well earned

:27:26.:27:26.

for the defence. Deep into the Scotland 22. James

:27:27.:27:40.

Haskell. Two men take him. Richie Gray grabs Chris Robshaw but England

:27:41.:27:48.

making ground. Out to Nowell and Jack Noble in the corner for the

:27:49.:27:53.

try! What a try for England! -- Jack Nowell.

:27:54.:27:59.

Brown kicks long. A little bit of space for Stuart Hogg. Tries to

:28:00.:28:07.

escape his way through. Loses it but it is a penalty to Scotland.

:28:08.:28:15.

And England still have it. How it will go from George Ford. England

:28:16.:28:31.

have won the Calcutta Cup once again.

:28:32.:28:36.

I always thought we were going to win the game. The only way we were

:28:37.:28:42.

not going to win the game was if we did something silly. We want to move

:28:43.:28:46.

the ball more. We have been practising that. That is pragmatic

:28:47.:28:50.

football. I think the game was there to be

:28:51.:28:56.

won. That is the hard fact of the situation. If we get ourselves in a

:28:57.:29:00.

similar situation, we have got to nail it.

:29:01.:29:04.

The Calcutta Cup is in England's Cabinet again and this is the start

:29:05.:29:08.

of a new dawn for England. He referred to it as a pragmatic

:29:09.:29:13.

performance. Were you impressed by what you saw? What is new? We have

:29:14.:29:18.

that every year from England. Having said that, they looked a bit more

:29:19.:29:22.

efficient. After the World Cup they looked in disarray. Unfortunately,

:29:23.:29:28.

they looked a bit as if they had worked a bit harder together, the

:29:29.:29:33.

forwards looked very effective and I like the runners behind. Not that

:29:34.:29:37.

they created a tremendous amount of openings. But they looked strong and

:29:38.:29:42.

as the season develops, they get to know one another, I think those

:29:43.:29:46.

English backs, especially Brown at fullback looking for work, could be

:29:47.:29:48.

very effective. Billy Vunipola, the official man of

:29:49.:29:57.

the match. He was sensational yesterday. Did he inspire England to

:29:58.:30:02.

that win? Definitely. With a number eight that can make yards in

:30:03.:30:05.

contact, it is impressive. He is a big man. Great footwork as well. He

:30:06.:30:13.

can off-load in the tackle. Defence is so tied in a modern game. With

:30:14.:30:17.

someone like that it is massive. You see that with New Zealand all the

:30:18.:30:21.

time with Kieran Read. It is it for the team if you go like that. He

:30:22.:30:25.

still has a Welsh accent. How did we let him slip away? Gutted. I spoke

:30:26.:30:32.

to Andy Nichol. For then the expectation was quite high, in

:30:33.:30:36.

Scotland. Quarterfinal in the World Cup. As the cover said, fibres

:30:37.:30:43.

before half-time and after half-time, they had pressure and did

:30:44.:30:47.

not turn it into points. They missed a kick and drop goal. They had a

:30:48.:30:53.

couple of chances. If you look at the second try, it was very well

:30:54.:31:01.

worked by England. They went through a couple of forwards and scored the

:31:02.:31:05.

try. They had to cut the mistakes out and if they do, they are going

:31:06.:31:08.

to be very dangerous. You cannot underestimate them. That is just

:31:09.:31:14.

walking through defence. This is lovely hands. He comes in and leaves

:31:15.:31:22.

a winner. Your winger, leaving the covering defenders and taking the

:31:23.:31:25.

inside man. It is easier getting the inside man with the winger. If they

:31:26.:31:30.

cut those mistakes out they have the ability to trouble teams. Scotland,

:31:31.:31:36.

they said it was the toughest game they played in the World Cup. If

:31:37.:31:40.

they cut out those mistakes and keep that pressure and turn it into

:31:41.:31:42.

points they will be difficult to beat. It is disappointment they did

:31:43.:31:48.

not have the composure to win. Everybody hoped it might be the year

:31:49.:31:52.

after coming within a whisker of a semifinal place in the World Cup but

:31:53.:31:55.

they have got serious attacking weapons. Stuart Hogg was great

:31:56.:32:00.

again. And he is very quick. No doubt about it. He can play back and

:32:01.:32:06.

on the wing as well. There was that one chance. At this level, when you

:32:07.:32:12.

give those chances, they are few and far between and you have to take

:32:13.:32:16.

them. I agree with Jonathan. Do not underestimate Scotland. They will

:32:17.:32:21.

come down, they have lost their first game, they were confident of

:32:22.:32:24.

winning. It will be disappointing for them. They have got their work

:32:25.:32:30.

cut out. They can be defeated but they are no marks. The thanks they

:32:31.:32:35.

got so close to that semifinal in the World Cup, it should be noted.

:32:36.:32:41.

-- the fact they got. We have them next week on Saturday in Cardiff.

:32:42.:32:47.

More about Scotland later. The under 20 team later, opening the account

:32:48.:32:51.

against Ireland on Friday. Hoping to make it four in a row. Against the

:32:52.:32:54.

men in green. COMMENTATOR: Spotting space on the

:32:55.:33:07.

other side. Nicely worked. O'Brien. No, he does not quite make the

:33:08.:33:10.

corner. A great cover tackle from Dan Jones. Over the sideline. It

:33:11.:33:17.

looks as though Gallagher may have got there. Declan Smith digging in.

:33:18.:33:24.

Phillips has another go. Gallagher with the tackle. They are so close.

:33:25.:33:36.

Can they reach it? They can indeed! Again, Wales are knocking on the

:33:37.:33:40.

door. A hard battering ram, first time. Lovely slip. A very well

:33:41.:33:51.

worked try for Adam Beard. Declan Smith just directing things around

:33:52.:33:55.

him. Stolen by the replacement, Gavin Brown. Intercepted by Dan

:33:56.:34:01.

Jones. That is an unexpected gift. Wales will take that. What odds on a

:34:02.:34:10.

line-out try here? With Kevin Brown standing off, especially. There he

:34:11.:34:15.

is. Out catching himself. Thundering through the middle. The try has been

:34:16.:34:27.

given very early indeed. Morgan Williams half turned. That means it

:34:28.:34:33.

was meant to go in the air but charged down and back into the hands

:34:34.:34:37.

of scrum-half. Could the room on the outside. Past it a little bit.

:34:38.:34:44.

Thomas bounces his opposite number back inside. And that could be the

:34:45.:34:55.

killer blow for Wales! Phillips tackling low on Gallagher. Kerins

:34:56.:35:04.

goes in. O'Brien. The tackle comes in from Morgan Williams. This time

:35:05.:35:09.

it is quicker ball. Eventually there is space to cross over. A bit rusty

:35:10.:35:17.

in parts, in the first 20 minutes but when we got the speed and

:35:18.:35:22.

intensity I was really pleased. The commitment of the players in defence

:35:23.:35:26.

in particular, it was a good start. It was a great start.

:35:27.:35:29.

Congratulations to the under 20 team. Full win in a row against

:35:30.:35:35.

Ireland. You can see them on club rugby at half past six next Friday

:35:36.:35:43.

night. Could the women do the same? They were also facing the Irish

:35:44.:35:44.

counterparts. The Welsh women opened their

:35:45.:35:54.

campaign with a trip to Donnybrook against the defending champions,

:35:55.:35:56.

Ireland and they were looking to improve on the fifth position from

:35:57.:35:59.

last season. After winning in a friendly the week before,

:36:00.:36:04.

expectations were high. Very excited about this campaign. We learned a

:36:05.:36:08.

lot from last year and we have a big opportunity to see what we can do

:36:09.:36:12.

for five games. This team has attacking threat and they are not

:36:13.:36:15.

afraid to have a go. Quite excited to see what happens. First one we

:36:16.:36:21.

run over. It is clean, processed, Claire. Attack, composure on the

:36:22.:36:27.

ball. Last time we came out of the blocks firing. I want the same

:36:28.:36:31.

intent. Like we said if we are not set, but your foot on it and wait.

:36:32.:36:41.

Do that head, OK. And it was Wales who made the better start, taking

:36:42.:36:44.

the lead thanks to a penalty from Robin Wilkins, as Ireland went off

:36:45.:36:49.

their feet after a ruck inside their own 22. That was quickly cancelled

:36:50.:36:58.

out with a response in kind for the home side. Ireland were getting into

:36:59.:37:06.

the ascendancy in the territory stakes and after taking the lead

:37:07.:37:09.

with another penalty, Wales went down to 14 and the pressure was

:37:10.:37:13.

telling, with Island crossing with the first try with the centre,

:37:14.:37:17.

breaking through in midfield and having the pace to go all the way.

:37:18.:37:25.

Breaks converted, making it 10-3. -- Briggs. The Irish increase their

:37:26.:37:31.

lead with Sophie Spence powering over to give Ireland a 15-3

:37:32.:37:39.

advantage going into the break. Two more penalties in the second half,

:37:40.:37:44.

eventually leading to a victory, 21-3. Welsh, Scotland one week

:37:45.:37:46.

today. -- next for the Welsh. The line speed put us under a lot of

:37:47.:37:57.

pressure and it made it quite difficult. Disappointed, obviously,

:37:58.:38:01.

because we have a good result in the friendly but could not convert it.

:38:02.:38:05.

We had to put that behind us and focus on the next game. It was

:38:06.:38:11.

unlucky, to the women. Sharni Williams is with us in the clubhouse

:38:12.:38:16.

tonight. You defeated Ireland a fortnight ago. Was it a totally

:38:17.:38:20.

different side yesterday? The Irish have gone out and done their

:38:21.:38:24.

homework. They made all the wrongs right on Saturday. They came out

:38:25.:38:30.

with a lot more. Better defence. The line speed was on key and they put

:38:31.:38:35.

us under a lot of pressure. We heard Rachel Taylor saying Wales were

:38:36.:38:38.

hoping to play an adventurous style this year. But you could not get

:38:39.:38:42.

your hands on the ball. Possession was a problem. Something to work on?

:38:43.:38:47.

We could not seem to get past two, three phases. The pressure the Irish

:38:48.:38:52.

put upon us was something else. We struggled to deal with it and we

:38:53.:38:56.

need to go away and go back to the basics in the contact area. And

:38:57.:39:01.

string some more phases together and get that intensity again. Four

:39:02.:39:06.

players on debut. It is good to see new blood at this level. What

:39:07.:39:10.

experience an issue against a more experienced Irish side? I would not

:39:11.:39:15.

say so. They really put their hands up and played with a lot of intent.

:39:16.:39:18.

They went forward and the girls coming from the bench, they added

:39:19.:39:22.

value to the team. I would not say it was a problem. Scotland are up

:39:23.:39:29.

next, on Sunday next week. What are you going to be working on this

:39:30.:39:33.

week? Playing under pressure. The contact area, especially. Playing

:39:34.:39:37.

under that pressure and turning that pressure around and getting

:39:38.:39:43.

momentum, being able to play. Programme macro is right the hide

:39:44.:39:47.

you. Best of luck and we hope to have you back in the clubhouse next

:39:48.:39:54.

week. -- we are right the hide you. -- right behind you.

:39:55.:39:58.

We will go back to the men's tournament. Six Nations kicked off

:39:59.:40:04.

in Paris as France took on Italy. A new era in France with the French,

:40:05.:40:17.

with a flourish under the new coach? They picked four new players,

:40:18.:40:20.

including the sevens specialist, who had not played 15 aside since 2013.

:40:21.:40:27.

Italy had the same coach and same captain, Sergio Perez so. 115 caps,

:40:28.:40:30.

not out. Here come the drop goal attempt. He

:40:31.:40:59.

likes it. Well struck. Italy had taken the lead at the stats to

:41:00.:41:07.

France. He began it all. He looks very dangerous. Doesn't he just?

:41:08.:41:14.

Jules Plisson ongoing pass. Great tackle. And he has opened the French

:41:15.:41:23.

account in his first test match. France have men on the floor. This

:41:24.:41:39.

could be set up for a very sweet drive for the line. Italy powering

:41:40.:41:46.

the way over. A trifle Italy. Parisse. -- a try for Italy. Yes, it

:41:47.:42:00.

was. Taken quickly. Up the blindside. Parisse. For the

:42:01.:42:34.

line and he is so close! That is a great tackle. He has not made the

:42:35.:42:40.

line. It is a try for the man of the moment. Carlo scores. A real chance

:42:41.:42:48.

now for France. Cranking it up inside the 22. That is in. He is in.

:42:49.:42:58.

Try for the French winger. It is one of the workhouse

:42:59.:43:11.

performers. It is over. It is good. He looked as

:43:12.:43:31.

cool as anything and has just put his team into the lead.

:43:32.:43:36.

Parisse. He is back on his feet. Yes, he was tackled. Another very

:43:37.:43:54.

close decision. Was he tackled? Well, it is a high tackle. It is a

:43:55.:44:00.

high tackle. Penalty should have gone to the Tanya 's. -- the

:44:01.:44:06.

Italians. He was held. This is a big, big kick. That is a monster

:44:07.:44:17.

kick. Huge, huge kick and France are in the lead. 23-21. Parisse still

:44:18.:44:25.

does not believe it was a penalty. STUDIO: First game for France and it

:44:26.:44:28.

was a victory and it was fairly underwhelming. That was the biggest

:44:29.:44:33.

talking point. Contentious penalty. The play, taking it at 54 metres but

:44:34.:44:39.

should it have been a penalty? It was a high tackle, first of all. It

:44:40.:44:46.

hits him in the... That is one heck of a kick.

:44:47.:44:58.

Everybody's expecting the same style as Toulouse. Getting the Ford on the

:44:59.:45:03.

back line and if it came of it would have been exciting. They have the

:45:04.:45:08.

right to go wide and the Italians played well. They stood up, scoring

:45:09.:45:14.

a try. Missing a couple of easy tries which would have put them in

:45:15.:45:19.

front. I do not know about that rock goal at the end. You need somebody

:45:20.:45:26.

to get out of the way, should have been in that position, he took it on

:45:27.:45:30.

himself. The Italians impress me. France have the potential to become

:45:31.:45:35.

good but they have got to do the basics first. They have got a

:45:36.:45:39.

massive pack. Gareth Thomas was in the chair last week. And he played

:45:40.:45:44.

and to lose a couple of seasons and was very, entry about the coach,

:45:45.:45:49.

saying that he would... We have got a bit of Parisse coming up. You are

:45:50.:45:54.

a former back row. You talked about a couple of sensational number eight

:45:55.:46:02.

players. I think Billy Vunipola was the best for me but you could do a

:46:03.:46:05.

whole show about this. He is so good. You almost do not talk about

:46:06.:46:10.

him because you expect that performance every week. In terms of

:46:11.:46:14.

the drop goal, there were some raised eyebrows. The question I

:46:15.:46:20.

would ask, where was the ten? Why did he not put his hand up? I think

:46:21.:46:28.

he probably deserved it. He was probably the only one, I will put my

:46:29.:46:33.

hand up and try and win for the team. Some people accuse him of

:46:34.:46:37.

being a glory hunter but he did not seem to be getting in the pocket and

:46:38.:46:44.

taking it. He had came off for clap. -- cramp. He fell into position and

:46:45.:46:52.

sitting in the pocket and nailing the drop goal, that is what you are

:46:53.:46:58.

paid to do. Parisse, if he gets that, you are the Prime Minister, or

:46:59.:47:06.

president of Italy! Playing in Paris in the, and almost a drop goal. Get

:47:07.:47:12.

your code, go on. That is it! -- get your coat. That really would have

:47:13.:47:19.

taken the biscuit. Would have been brilliant. While we are on the

:47:20.:47:25.

subject of drop goals, it was a bit of a theme this weekend. Three were

:47:26.:47:29.

missed which could have affected the outcome of matches. Russell, Parisse

:47:30.:47:35.

and Rhys Priestland as well. Jonathan Davies, we will see some of

:47:36.:47:41.

yours in a minute. You still have the record for the most rock goals

:47:42.:47:46.

scored by a Welsh player. -- drop goals. The next one is a bit better.

:47:47.:47:58.

As a stand-off, that is what you do. You are directing the play forward,

:47:59.:48:03.

into position. You tell the scrum-half, when I am ready, I will

:48:04.:48:09.

take it. And you can be hero or zero. That is your responsibility. I

:48:10.:48:14.

think it should have been directed and it was not. Parisse stood up and

:48:15.:48:19.

had a crack at it. The other two, they were set up perfectly. Russell

:48:20.:48:23.

was in the right position. Priestland was in the right

:48:24.:48:27.

position. But they both snatched at it. If you pick your head up

:48:28.:48:32.

quickly, you have got to strike through it. As soon as it was hit

:48:33.:48:39.

you knew it was going over. You have got another 20 years to think about

:48:40.:48:45.

it, haven't you? We are running out of time. We will park it there and

:48:46.:48:50.

talk about France another time. So many cameras covering the Six

:48:51.:48:55.

Nations and we do not miss much and it is time for this week's did you

:48:56.:49:01.

see that. As the line-out? Why not use this handy remote control. Dylan

:49:02.:49:07.

Hartley learning some manners. Sorry! Take note, Owen Farrell.

:49:08.:49:16.

Jamie, really! That is better. John Humphrys realising he forgot to get

:49:17.:49:21.

some milk. Do not panic. Russell has got a list.

:49:22.:49:31.

We are back at the bar with Rhys Williams. We took a trip down memory

:49:32.:49:36.

lane looking at your debut against the Irish. A more recent history,

:49:37.:49:41.

this one. We have got Scotland next and that is a fixture with fond

:49:42.:49:47.

memories for you. Fortunately we had a great start against Scotland in

:49:48.:49:52.

2005. We were coming back into it and a long pass and I was on the

:49:53.:49:56.

receiving end and I had a jog of 80 yards up to the posts. Slowed down a

:49:57.:50:02.

bit, didn't you? I was struggling with my calf. He gave up the ghost

:50:03.:50:08.

and I knew it was mine. The next fixture is in Cardiff. Would he make

:50:09.:50:12.

any changes after what you saw today? Depending on injuries, I

:50:13.:50:20.

would not. We know how physical it was today. The players will be

:50:21.:50:24.

recovering until Wednesday, when they are fully recovered from this

:50:25.:50:29.

game. It is a real turnaround on the international tournament. Key for me

:50:30.:50:33.

is recovery. If there was anyone I was getting to go with, Warburton

:50:34.:50:38.

and Tipuric against Scotland. We have to make sure we are sharper

:50:39.:50:41.

behind and we had to take their chances. The forwards had so much

:50:42.:50:45.

possession and we have to be sharper to unleash the likes of Tom James,

:50:46.:50:50.

George North and Liam Williams. If Liam Williams retains his place as

:50:51.:50:54.

you suggest a T-shirt, he is against Stuart Hogg. Arguably the most spiky

:50:55.:50:58.

and confrontational characters in world rugby. It could be a head to

:50:59.:51:04.

head to relish. Rugby fans wants to see that. Players with the ball in

:51:05.:51:08.

hand, having a go and doing things that are different from what we see

:51:09.:51:12.

Whee Kim and we can. It could be a great head to head. -- week in and

:51:13.:51:17.

week out. Let's hope Scotland kicked badly and they have enough space to

:51:18.:51:23.

run. Looking forward to it. Scotland's next, as we have

:51:24.:51:27.

discussed. Sean has had a look at where this game might be won and

:51:28.:51:29.

lost. Scotland had limbs is threatening

:51:30.:51:37.

play against England but poor execution and decision-making let

:51:38.:51:42.

them down. -- were threatening. The raft rail to use and if Wales can

:51:43.:51:45.

get the detailed preparation spot on, they can exploit it. -- they

:51:46.:51:52.

have got frailties. They showed ingenuity in attack from the

:51:53.:51:54.

line-outs. Hardy instrumental in this. They are looking for weakness

:51:55.:52:00.

in the Welsh system. Especially from them all, bringing in Tommy Seymour.

:52:01.:52:05.

But they are deployed of ideas in the red zone and England found it

:52:06.:52:08.

easy to defend and sorted to missed chances like this. Wales will have

:52:09.:52:14.

to be aware of interception. Then Russell gets interception and he

:52:15.:52:17.

surely should have passed to Stuart Hart. They had a rapid back three

:52:18.:52:21.

and on the turnover they are very quick. As Hogg showed last year,

:52:22.:52:26.

each carried 18 times, over 100 metres yesterday. Wales had

:52:27.:52:31.

opportunities in the wider channel to attack. Scotland, drifting on the

:52:32.:52:36.

inside and out on the outside. Leaving a lot of space for the Welsh

:52:37.:52:42.

back free to attack. If we can send numbers at the line, the outside

:52:43.:52:45.

backs are turning their hits in towards the runners. Leading space

:52:46.:52:50.

on the outside. Look how Seymour jumps out of the line. Space for

:52:51.:52:55.

Jack Nowell. The result of that, in the wider channels, the full-back as

:52:56.:53:00.

to commit himself, even more space behind for a kick and chase. If

:53:01.:53:06.

Wales can get some play between the forward and back, like Billy

:53:07.:53:09.

Vunipola for England yesterday, they can exploit the outer channels. Look

:53:10.:53:13.

how the defenders planted their feet and now they are in trouble. Watson

:53:14.:53:17.

has seen this. Kicking into the space. Hogg has two commit to the

:53:18.:53:24.

front line. This is also an opportunity against Scotland.

:53:25.:53:27.

Russell found himself in the backfield. He is challenged by the

:53:28.:53:34.

England outside back. And who could forget the miss timed challenge on

:53:35.:53:37.

Dan Biggar at Murrayfield, resulting in the yellow card? Disorganised

:53:38.:53:42.

defence and again, the outer channel, Scotland's turning in,

:53:43.:53:47.

leading to a two on one and that is all the Welsh need at international

:53:48.:53:48.

level. A bit of use before we move on about

:53:49.:53:58.

the injury with Dan Biggar. He was in a moon boot after the game as a

:53:59.:54:02.

precaution. We will find out if he is fit and available for selection.

:54:03.:54:04.

We will talk about Scotland selection later. Picking up on that

:54:05.:54:10.

point made by Sean about how the Scottish three quarters defended,

:54:11.:54:14.

maybe you would like to see Wales get the balls out in the wider

:54:15.:54:19.

channel as soon as. There is no point in shuffling out. A couple of

:54:20.:54:26.

examples here. If you are drifting, you're drifting together. And if you

:54:27.:54:31.

are blitzing, you are blitzing together. A piece of rope, one goes

:54:32.:54:36.

in and the whole lot does. It is a good parts, you are defeated.

:54:37.:54:41.

Sometimes you have not got a clue where you are and you have got to

:54:42.:54:45.

spot that and gaps will open up. Tommy Seymour loves the

:54:46.:54:49.

interception. He will go for it. It is all nothing. It is 14 points,

:54:50.:54:56.

really. If you can taunt him, it is like a matador, trying to get it to

:54:57.:55:01.

come at you, out of the line, you are hitting the shoulder. They have

:55:02.:55:05.

two variable angles and watch what they are doing. They had to adapt.

:55:06.:55:09.

Because they have varied defensive patterns. That is where we must

:55:10.:55:16.

improve. We must improve on the attacking play. That is what we have

:55:17.:55:22.

to work on. And I think hopefully if all the hard work is done going

:55:23.:55:26.

forward, we can create the space and we have to be clinical and score the

:55:27.:55:32.

tries. We are blessed in Wales with some very good scrum halves. Gareth

:55:33.:55:35.

Davies started in the absence of Rhys Webb 's with Williams coming on

:55:36.:55:42.

later. Contrasting styles. Lloyd with the slick delivery. Would you

:55:43.:55:50.

change for Scotland? No, to be fair, Gareth has played well almost every

:55:51.:55:54.

time he has played for Wales. I thought that ball coming back was a

:55:55.:55:57.

bit slow today. Every scrum-half needs a platform. Going forward, it

:55:58.:56:03.

is easier. Wales can do it against Scotland. Gareth is very capable,

:56:04.:56:11.

very good at sniffing out tries. He is excellent. He might not have been

:56:12.:56:15.

at his best today but having said that, I do not think he played badly

:56:16.:56:20.

at all. Just not as good as what he normally is. A lot of people had to

:56:21.:56:24.

play a part in that for the scrum-half. I would expect Gareth to

:56:25.:56:30.

be in there. I might bring in summary like Matthew Morgan on the

:56:31.:56:34.

bench, maybe. Then we can very tactics a bit more. -- somebody.

:56:35.:56:39.

Then we could have more effectiveness in attacking play.

:56:40.:56:43.

What about the back row? We heard about the balance and you touched on

:56:44.:56:49.

it, would you make any changes? Is it the best game for Warburton and

:56:50.:56:55.

Tipuric together? Four into three do not go. Having quality players, you

:56:56.:57:01.

can go horses for courses. You want to play Tipuric at the Scottish

:57:02.:57:04.

game, more of an open game and more possession than against the Irish.

:57:05.:57:10.

The Irish were very tight and it was a close affair. In general terms,

:57:11.:57:15.

everybody talks about Wales involving the attacking game. For

:57:16.:57:20.

Wales to evolve the attacking game, you need to Tipuric to be part of

:57:21.:57:23.

that plan. He can do things other players cannot. 20 seconds left.

:57:24.:57:28.

Your predictions in one word? Wales. Wales. Wales. There it is, Wales!

:57:29.:57:34.

Round of applause. Back on track. CROWD CHEERS And that is all we have

:57:35.:57:46.

time for. Thanks to my guests, Jonathan Davies, Gareth Edwards,

:57:47.:57:53.

Jonathan Thomas, and over in the bar, Mr Rhys Williams and Sharni

:57:54.:57:58.

Williams for the Welsh women as well! Thank you for coming. That is

:57:59.:58:04.

all we have time for. Wales have drawn the opening game in the six

:58:05.:58:09.

nations but we are still undefeated. Scotland next in Cardiff in six

:58:10.:58:14.

days. Just five more sleeps. We will see you next week. Good night.

:58:15.:58:25.

Can he score? It would be a miracle if he could. He will get the!

:58:26.:58:33.

Jonathan Davies with a drop goal and he has done it again. And that

:58:34.:58:36.

surely must be the score that wins the game for Wales. Shane Williams

:58:37.:58:44.

has won the most hotly contested game. I cannot believe it.

:58:45.:58:51.
