Don't stop me now, Queen. Celebrate, called the gang. | :00:43. | :00:54.
Don't stop me now. Having a ball. If you want to have a good time, give | :00:55. | :01:16.
me a call! I don't want to stop at all. APPLAUSE | :01:17. | :01:26.
Hello and good evening, welcome to scrum V Six Nations special. That us | :01:27. | :01:38.
get the party started with a heavyweight panel, Jonathan Davies | :01:39. | :01:45.
is here. Martyn Williams. And the main man himself, Mr Shane Williams. | :01:46. | :01:50.
We are also delighted to welcome our friends from Italy, the Italians are | :01:51. | :01:56.
in the house. A very good friend of the show, Mr Roche. Wales's women | :01:57. | :02:07.
are here this evening. But our special guest this evening, give it | :02:08. | :02:14.
up for the Grand Slam champion Wales under 20s. Great to see you boys, we | :02:15. | :02:28.
will talk to you shortly but only one place to start, the principality | :02:29. | :02:33.
stadium and Wales looking for an improvement on Twickenham. Wales | :02:34. | :02:42.
were going for their 10th consecutive win over Italy and with | :02:43. | :02:49.
captain Sam sidelined, Dan Lydiate was leading that his nation for the | :02:50. | :02:55.
first time. Rhys Webb and Justin Tipuric work playing, and Amos | :02:56. | :03:03.
returned from injury for his championship debut. With 17 players | :03:04. | :03:06.
out injured, the Italians had to make five unforced changes. Parisi's | :03:07. | :03:10.
team had never won in Cardiff. COMMENTATOR: Wales trying to get | :03:11. | :03:34.
through. Wales pouring up to the 22. The little push from Dan Biggar. He | :03:35. | :03:43.
gets in ahead of his opposite number, Williams. They have got to | :03:44. | :03:47.
be offside. A clever kick, to the naked eye, they overran it. How the | :03:48. | :03:55.
assistant referee has not seen that, it should be a penalty to Italy. | :03:56. | :04:01.
Rhys Webb has it, and he goes for the line himself and scores. Wales | :04:02. | :04:12.
have a try. Wales, still on the attack. A little 1-2, Wales have | :04:13. | :04:28.
their second try, Dan Biggar. Now, a chance for Wales now as Jonathan | :04:29. | :04:35.
Davies, thou going up the wink in it goes to Dan Biggar, and Parisse | :04:36. | :04:42.
tries to get him but Evans will score. | :04:43. | :04:54.
Charteris, Davies comes in. It goes wide, Williams in their, George | :04:55. | :05:05.
North slips it away and Roberts will score in the corner, eventually it | :05:06. | :05:09.
came, a patient build-up from Wales and Jamie Roberts scores at the | :05:10. | :05:20.
start of the second half. Charteris lays it back, it goes straight | :05:21. | :05:26.
through, George North, George North all the way, what a try from George | :05:27. | :05:35.
North. He does it again, four games in a row in the Six Nations. Nice | :05:36. | :05:46.
little pass inside and a great run from Sato, to his younger brother, | :05:47. | :05:53.
and the lay-off is not quite therefore Geldenhuys, great break by | :05:54. | :06:04.
Italy. A lovely inside ball, I do like Sato, he is a deceptive runner, | :06:05. | :06:09.
plenty of supporting players, a missed opportunity. Defeat beginning | :06:10. | :06:18.
to move, moving towards that line. It may come, Garcia comes in as well | :06:19. | :06:21.
and the try is therefore Italy. Wales into the 22, Dan Biggar. | :06:22. | :06:45.
Roberts, wide to Davies, Williams, Lee Williams with a try. Wales score | :06:46. | :06:52.
again, Liam Williams with a fine finish. A chance once more for | :06:53. | :07:06.
Italy. Garcia for a try, Italy will have another, a beautiful off-load | :07:07. | :07:20.
and in Italy have a second try. Wales begin the March. Great play | :07:21. | :07:31.
and try, it comes to Ross Moriarty. He is the man who gets over for | :07:32. | :07:35.
another try for Wales as they move past 50. Away they go and it will be | :07:36. | :07:46.
a try, it has to be a second try from REIT. -- Moriarty. He is never | :07:47. | :07:59.
going to get there. Anscombe has support, carried by Lydiate, Dan | :08:00. | :08:08.
Biggar, surely. Davies for the try and what age I to finish with. -- | :08:09. | :08:23.
what a try. APPLAUSE The crowd in Cardiff loved it, the | :08:24. | :08:27.
studio loved it, what did the Welsh coach and players make of it? We | :08:28. | :08:35.
owed it to the fans this week, still conceded some soft tries but they | :08:36. | :08:39.
played their heart out, I could not ask for more from the squad. It is | :08:40. | :08:43.
difficult to play matches when we lose by 50 points, sometimes we did | :08:44. | :08:49.
good things, we scored a couple of tries but too many mistakes on | :08:50. | :08:56.
defence. They put us under pressure, well played Wales. We showed what we | :08:57. | :09:01.
can do and what we need to do, we deserve that for our hard work this | :09:02. | :09:08.
week. We want to play the way we have been playing, that doesn't | :09:09. | :09:12.
happen overnight, it takes some games to put that together, we have | :09:13. | :09:17.
created chances but have not always been 100% accurate. We had a couple | :09:18. | :09:22.
of passes going in behind but now we are trying to change things and | :09:23. | :09:26.
change things up, play a bit differently and put the forwards in | :09:27. | :09:30.
the channels and getting that combination of communication takes | :09:31. | :09:34.
time. They are an impatient lot and you want things to happen instantly | :09:35. | :09:41.
but today was good. You have to turn up every game, we have to make sure | :09:42. | :09:48.
we are in the right place, and today showed that we can be a good team. | :09:49. | :09:56.
Plenty to talk about as well as yesterday's game, we will also talk | :09:57. | :10:00.
about the tournament in general, a record win, nine tries and virtually | :10:01. | :10:06.
the perfect response after Twickenham. Virtually no win, they | :10:07. | :10:10.
would have expected to score 50 points against Italy, so I thought | :10:11. | :10:16.
they had patients, I didn't understand going for the penalty at | :10:17. | :10:21.
one stage when they were 10-0 up or something but apart from that, they | :10:22. | :10:25.
asked a lot of questions. They showed what they can do, Gatland is | :10:26. | :10:31.
on about my patients, I think they are a great bunch of players and | :10:32. | :10:35.
they are competitive on the world stage. The thing is, we think they | :10:36. | :10:41.
can play a better style as well and can adapt. It shows what they can do | :10:42. | :10:47.
with the execution sometimes on the passing was a bit awry but it was | :10:48. | :10:54.
easy on the high. Was the overriding emotion going to principality | :10:55. | :10:57.
stadium one of thinking what might have been if they had won against | :10:58. | :11:03.
England and then you would be playing a poor Italy side to win the | :11:04. | :11:08.
title? A little bit, you cannot underestimate how big the challenge | :11:09. | :11:13.
is to win at Twickenham, we started poorly in that game. Wales will be | :11:14. | :11:18.
frustrated and tomorrow, they will look, their first game against an | :11:19. | :11:23.
injury ravaged game against Ireland and did not turn up for the first 30 | :11:24. | :11:28.
minutes and last week again. I don't think they will necessarily beaten | :11:29. | :11:33.
by a better team's, this is the most talented group we have had in years | :11:34. | :11:38.
for Wales. The talent we have got is amazing, they will be as frustrated | :11:39. | :11:44.
as everyone else. The national paper said yesterday, for the love of | :11:45. | :11:50.
rugby, please play. Nothing to lose really. Italy have been quite poor | :11:51. | :11:56.
in this Six Nations, conceding a lot of points, everyone complained last | :11:57. | :12:01.
week that Wales had not scored many tries and it was a chance to move | :12:02. | :12:05.
the ball around and use their strike runners and play differently. What | :12:06. | :12:08.
they did differently, rather than sending Jamie Roberts up the middle | :12:09. | :12:13.
all the time, they attacked behind him, they used him as a distributor | :12:14. | :12:17.
and it created gaps and holes for George North, Williams, and at times | :12:18. | :12:24.
they played some fantastic rugby and showed everybody what they can do | :12:25. | :12:28.
when they get clean ball and go forward. We will talk about Italy | :12:29. | :12:33.
later in the programme but Wales, it is a sign of how far we have come as | :12:34. | :12:37.
a rugby nation when the audience in the studio and the crowd yesterday | :12:38. | :12:42.
were disappointed that we finished second? It is a tournament a lot of | :12:43. | :12:49.
fans in Wales think they should win. A team with so many superstars | :12:50. | :12:57.
combining, it is hard to understand why a 40 minutes of rugby had such | :12:58. | :13:01.
an impact on who wins it but the different style of attack, aerial | :13:02. | :13:05.
bombardment. That passing before contact and the elusiveness before | :13:06. | :13:10.
contact makes it difficult when you have do defend it. So many variables | :13:11. | :13:17.
happen when there is contact, the off-load can be forced, if you take | :13:18. | :13:22.
that away, everyone plays with width and it puts more stress on a tired | :13:23. | :13:28.
defence and that is when you get 30 points scored so quickly. You picked | :13:29. | :13:34.
up an example. Two a good kicking game and a fantastic defence, rather | :13:35. | :13:40.
than running as far as can into contact and then pass, we were | :13:41. | :13:45.
passing before we made contact. I know the Italians made it pretty | :13:46. | :13:49.
easy in defence, it is great to see what the back line can do, not just | :13:50. | :13:53.
using them as battering rams to get over the line. Getting a second | :13:54. | :13:59.
touch on the ball, we harp on about the Kiwis and Australians but that | :14:00. | :14:01.
is what they do, they don't run as far as | :14:02. | :14:03.
is what they do, they don't run as dictating whether ball goes from the | :14:04. | :14:25.
first play and it has to be from wider, the full-back and the centre | :14:26. | :14:29.
need to communicate and get the ball in because although we won by 60 | :14:30. | :14:33.
points, there were opportunities that were easy try scoring | :14:34. | :14:37.
opportunities. They scored from their own half yesterday, they could | :14:38. | :14:39.
have won by a lot more by just being their own half yesterday, they could | :14:40. | :16:12.
something they need to develop. A tweet from Mike Phillips praising | :16:13. | :16:16.
mariachi and how he celebrated his drive. Really impressed with him, he | :16:17. | :16:25.
has a real edge about him. It carries really well. I think we were | :16:26. | :16:33.
40 or 50 points up at the time. The way he celebrates his first try, a | :16:34. | :16:38.
dream come true for him. Wales are blessed in the back row, no sam | :16:39. | :16:43.
yesterday, Sam Warburton, another went off injured, Ross Moriarty has | :16:44. | :16:49.
taken his opportunity. Warren Gatland singled him out for praise, | :16:50. | :16:53.
when he does that it is no mean feat. It is another one to add into | :16:54. | :17:01.
the mix. Hopefully he can get an opportunity in New Zealand. Alan | :17:02. | :17:08.
Amos, we scored 60 points and the ball didn't go to him. I did feel | :17:09. | :17:15.
for him because you could see him waiting for one but the ball didn't | :17:16. | :17:20.
go his way. What did you think of Moriarty? It is awful when you have | :17:21. | :17:27.
another back with a low centre of gravity, he has subtle touches, not | :17:28. | :17:31.
just a battering ram, he has the hard work as well and tight phases. | :17:32. | :17:35.
Another option coming out the back and you were looking for Justin | :17:36. | :17:40.
Tipuric and others, and then you have do worry about Ross Moriarty as | :17:41. | :17:45.
well, you have someone who will fight for the jersey as well. Update | :17:46. | :17:51.
you on Justin Tipuric, he's bent the night in hospital with a bang on the | :17:52. | :17:56.
head, someone else with a headache yesterday was the touch judge. You | :17:57. | :17:59.
may have seen this, this has become an Internet sensation. This is what | :18:00. | :18:02.
happened. There he goes. How did he miss that? | :18:03. | :18:23.
He missed the offside for the kick first of all, that explains it a bit | :18:24. | :18:30.
to be honest. Let us talk about Italy, Carlow, we have some Italian | :18:31. | :18:34.
fans in the crowd here today, fair play, they have come out here today. | :18:35. | :18:41.
They have come out today and they have all been saying how | :18:42. | :18:44.
disappointed they were yesterday, Italy were dreadful and awful | :18:45. | :18:50.
yesterday. Thanks. It breaks my heart, to hear so many people say | :18:51. | :18:55.
that Italy was so poor and White were they poor? You can make all the | :18:56. | :18:59.
excuses you want to, Wales were brilliant at times, not a lot of | :19:00. | :19:04.
teams would have been able to stop what they produced but you look at | :19:05. | :19:08.
the injury list, and there is massive pressure to field a team, | :19:09. | :19:16.
that not a lot of them even have any European experience, there is a guy | :19:17. | :19:22.
who plays in the international -- the Italian league, the full-back, | :19:23. | :19:28.
he was contributing well at the same time but, the one was a tip thing, | :19:29. | :19:34.
if you bleed so many youngsters by force, all of a sudden when the | :19:35. | :19:38.
physio room is empty and they get their jerseys back, Italy have a | :19:39. | :19:42.
wider pool of players to choose from. That have been led rather than | :19:43. | :19:50.
just fed information and can come in. If there is one positive thing, | :19:51. | :19:55.
it would be the extra experience for those players. There is a | :19:56. | :20:01.
suggestion, about relegation, that the team finish bottom of the Six | :20:02. | :20:05.
Nations, Italy, would face a play-off against a team like | :20:06. | :20:09.
Georgia, who beat Romania yesterday, they finished top of the so-called | :20:10. | :20:15.
European Nations cup but is that disrespectful to Italy? It is not | :20:16. | :20:20.
just Italy, whoever finishes bottom should face the top of the year -- | :20:21. | :20:27.
the teams below, Georgia yesterday had 55,000 people watching them beat | :20:28. | :20:30.
Romania, they are serious contenders. You cannot just keep | :20:31. | :20:36.
them down. You look what happened with Argentina, they started in | :20:37. | :20:40.
Super Rugby and now a team in the Super 15 and the Rugby Championship, | :20:41. | :20:45.
they are developing. Italy should say, Parisse looked really off | :20:46. | :20:53.
yesterday, as if he had had enough. If we are to stay there, they have | :20:54. | :20:59.
to play Georgia on a home and away basis and if you play well and not, | :21:00. | :21:06.
maybe it would be better to go back and develop players and then come | :21:07. | :21:11.
back again the following year. Rather than lose by 50 or 60 points. | :21:12. | :21:17.
It was tough on Italy with a lot of injuries but whoever finishes often. | :21:18. | :21:23.
I used Italy as an example, it adds jeopardy to the end of the season | :21:24. | :21:27.
and you don't have heard robbers, it could be Wales. Georgia showed they | :21:28. | :21:36.
are a force in the World Cup, Italy would be stronger over two legs but | :21:37. | :21:40.
it is worth looking at definitely. You could have seven nations and | :21:41. | :21:48.
invite Georgia in. We talk about the level two sides, the only way they | :21:49. | :21:51.
compete against the best teams in the world is to play against them on | :21:52. | :21:56.
a regular basis. Not just every four years when the World Cup comes | :21:57. | :22:01.
around. Georgia proved they are a force to be reckoned with and have | :22:02. | :22:05.
gone above Italy in the world rankings, why not? It is something | :22:06. | :22:09.
that could come in and if you don't play well in the Six Nations, you go | :22:10. | :22:14.
down to the second competition and it is an incentive to play well in | :22:15. | :22:19.
the Six Nations. If the tournament was not expanded from five to six, I | :22:20. | :22:24.
would not be sitting here now, it cannot just be a monopoly, even | :22:25. | :22:30.
though my first reaction is super protective. Sergio was annoyed when | :22:31. | :22:35.
it came up in the news conference. I am not surprised, Italy have beaten | :22:36. | :22:41.
everybody except England. But you take a step back and the wider | :22:42. | :22:48.
picture, they have a two year system and Georgia have won it nine times | :22:49. | :22:54.
in a row. Logistically, it makes sense, if it can be possible, every | :22:55. | :22:59.
two years that the rotation can be put in place. Then it can fast track | :23:00. | :23:07.
the development system that is needed to make better decisions. Let | :23:08. | :23:11.
us look at the final Six Nations table. England are Grand Slam | :23:12. | :23:17.
champions, congratulations to Eddie Jones and his team, a remarkable | :23:18. | :23:20.
recovery after World Cup failure. How good were England for you? Allen | :23:21. | :23:35.
good, no doubt about that, they were the best team in the competition, | :23:36. | :23:40.
they performed consistently well and had a tough game in Scotland at | :23:41. | :23:43.
Murrayfield. After winning that and how they won it, I backed them to | :23:44. | :23:48.
get through. It was quite frightening when you look at the | :23:49. | :23:52.
players they have two come in, Henry Slade, Tuilagi could come back fit, | :23:53. | :23:59.
the number eight will be available in the summer. It was not rocket | :24:00. | :24:03.
science how they played but they had clarity. Eddie Jones did what he | :24:04. | :24:09.
does, getting the best of his resources and the resources England | :24:10. | :24:12.
have, it is frightening for the rest of the Northern hemisphere. A | :24:13. | :24:18.
fascinating listening on the radio, saying that this team will mature | :24:19. | :24:21.
and in three or four years they will be a force to be reckoned with, can | :24:22. | :24:27.
you see a World Cup winning side? Yes you can, the strength in depth | :24:28. | :24:32.
is there. They are not going to be in Italy's position, they are a | :24:33. | :24:38.
strong side. It was not a poor tournament, Wales one of the best in | :24:39. | :24:42.
the world, Ireland have dipped a bit because of injuries but England did | :24:43. | :24:46.
what they had to do and did it well. I was impressed with what they did, | :24:47. | :24:51.
very simple and slow all, they kicked it all be forward took it up | :24:52. | :24:56.
and the quick ball and the forward took it, they scored a lot of tries | :24:57. | :25:01.
and looked dangerous. They looked confident. In the World Cup they | :25:02. | :25:07.
were edgy and nervous and we felt we had a chance of beating them and | :25:08. | :25:12.
that is what happened. Eddie Jones just oozes confidence, he says the | :25:13. | :25:17.
right things, go and have a beer and chill out and it is about what you | :25:18. | :25:21.
do on the field, it is about your game and leave him to do everything | :25:22. | :25:25.
else. Just behave yourself and play. I think they deservedly won it and | :25:26. | :25:30.
they will go from strength to strength. The Jo Marler issue has | :25:31. | :25:35.
made the papers again, a respected writer in the Sunday Times, he | :25:36. | :25:39.
doesn't think that Jo Marler, who admitted racial abuse, that he | :25:40. | :25:45.
should have been nowhere near a sports arena? At the end of the day, | :25:46. | :25:55.
he has admitted he has said something racial to Sam and it is | :25:56. | :26:00.
almost as if that is it. It is a serious matter and you can see his | :26:01. | :26:07.
point. How far it will go and what Stephen Jones really wants out of | :26:08. | :26:12.
this I am not sure. The problem you have is that no one really knew what | :26:13. | :26:18.
that meant at the time. Then everyone jumped on the bandwagon. | :26:19. | :26:24.
The Six Nations should have jumped on it straightaway and made a | :26:25. | :26:29.
decision. Banned or not banned and then announce it on Sunday morning | :26:30. | :26:33.
but it has dragged on and rugby, has been dragged through it and the | :26:34. | :26:39.
world game have come in and they will ban him. The problem is the | :26:40. | :26:45.
governing body, world rugby, looking at if the Six Nations committee have | :26:46. | :26:50.
investigated the investigation properly. The rugby union doesn't | :26:51. | :26:54.
know what is going on. The common-sense thing is to ban him for | :26:55. | :26:59.
the last game and draw a line and move on, no one has come out of this | :27:00. | :27:03.
with any credit in my mind. It is a shame it is dragging on. Whether | :27:04. | :27:08.
they retrospectively ban him, I think they will but the damage has | :27:09. | :27:14.
been done. A lot of players in the Six Nations have stepped up to the | :27:15. | :27:22.
mark, these are the views. Not the classic Six Nations we may have been | :27:23. | :27:26.
expecting but I have looked at some of the individual players that some | :27:27. | :27:30.
of the coaches may feel they cannot live without. Scottish Centre Duncan | :27:31. | :27:35.
Taylor has shown he can play 12 or 13. He has a presence of mind and an | :27:36. | :27:41.
uncanny ability to score tries. They rangy individual and deceptively | :27:42. | :27:45.
quick. He has been Scotland's top ball-carrier in three of the four | :27:46. | :27:49.
games he has played in the Six Nations this year. He is a solid | :27:50. | :27:54.
defender as well and in Taylor, Scotland have a centre that can | :27:55. | :27:59.
affect the game at either end of the field. Ireland stand-off CJ stander | :28:00. | :28:05.
had the most carries by a Six Nations were beaten. He has proved | :28:06. | :28:10.
to be a crucial player and he has leadership qualities. But he has | :28:11. | :28:16.
also shown deft skills and touches around the field and the links well | :28:17. | :28:21.
with the likes of Johnny Sexton. Add to that a vital line-out presence | :28:22. | :28:25.
and it makes him one for Ireland's future. Centre Michel Campagnaro has | :28:26. | :28:34.
been the one shining light in Italy's Six Nations, he has carried | :28:35. | :28:38.
the ball more than any other Italian player. Italy sorely missed him | :28:39. | :28:44.
against Wales yesterday. He has the ability to get Italy back on the | :28:45. | :28:49.
front foot when they are in trouble. He is a particularly aggressive | :28:50. | :28:52.
defender with a solid tackle technique. He is renowned as one of | :28:53. | :28:57.
the most difficult players to defend and he makes it look easy. As a | :28:58. | :29:03.
hooker, the French captain, not only does the set piece basics well but | :29:04. | :29:08.
also adds value to the team around the field. Whether it be in the | :29:09. | :29:12.
wider channels as he did against Scotland, scoring his try or in the" | :29:13. | :29:17.
is as he often did against Wales in Cardiff. He has also been used as a | :29:18. | :29:25.
wrecking ball flanker, when it needs to get tight, the captain can do the | :29:26. | :29:32.
job to get over the line. Lock George Cruise is the glue that keeps | :29:33. | :29:36.
England together, the Saracens man as a big tackle count and a huge | :29:37. | :29:43.
work rate, he rarely misses a tackle, especially under the sticks. | :29:44. | :29:48.
Is early try against Scotland proved decisive for the Grand Slam | :29:49. | :29:52.
champions, 50% of England's line-outs were thrown to him and | :29:53. | :29:59.
that with what he showed against France yesterday, it bodes well for | :30:00. | :30:01.
England's future. I have really seen an improvement in | :30:02. | :30:15.
George North. We all know George can be defenders for fun but on things | :30:16. | :30:18.
like this from kick-off, how he really drives his legs a second | :30:19. | :30:23.
effort to get Wales out of trouble. Tracking back from defence, crucial | :30:24. | :30:29.
in defensive aspects for his team. And also his spatial awareness | :30:30. | :30:32.
behind. This is a difficult skill for a winger and downy tramlines in | :30:33. | :30:36.
the five metre channel, a difficult kick that George North does with | :30:37. | :30:43.
aplomb. And improved player yes, there is more to gorgeous George | :30:44. | :30:44.
than meets the eye. Jonathan and Martin have selected | :30:45. | :30:54.
their British Lions side already and it is available on the Twitter feed | :30:55. | :31:00.
and Facebook. Wales are run New Zealand this summer. We have asked | :31:01. | :31:06.
Xavier Rush to be asked are at the bar this evening. What is the New | :31:07. | :31:14.
Zealand perspective of this 6-nations we have just had? It was a | :31:15. | :31:19.
little bit of a let down after the excitement of the World Cup and the | :31:20. | :31:23.
rugby we saw throughout the Rugby World Cup. It was a tad lower than | :31:24. | :31:29.
that but after 2011 World Cup, Wales have a lot of respect down under and | :31:30. | :31:34.
especially in New Zealand. It is a sign of how far we have come that we | :31:35. | :31:37.
are really disappointed to be runners-up. I was thinking that | :31:38. | :31:42.
earlier today. We are now going to places like Twickenham and expecting | :31:43. | :31:46.
to win. It shows how far Welsh rugby has come. Our New Zealand quaking in | :31:47. | :31:50.
their boots at the thought of taking on Wales? It is the best time Wales | :31:51. | :31:57.
will have had to face the All Blacks for some time. They are rebuilding. | :31:58. | :32:02.
We have had the retirement of some fantastic All Blacks. Wales are | :32:03. | :32:08.
getting them at a great time. But there are 12 or 13 other World Cup | :32:09. | :32:15.
winners to deal with. They will have problems but it is better than with | :32:16. | :32:20.
those players better. At the time of year, June, the middle of winter, | :32:21. | :32:23.
their game at the moment were actually suit the time of year. It | :32:24. | :32:27.
will be night rugby again. I would like to see Wales being a bit more | :32:28. | :32:31.
unstructured. They are like to see Wales being a bit more | :32:32. | :32:35.
when it goes from set piece to set piece but what you see from teams in | :32:36. | :32:37.
the southern hemisphere, piece but what you see from teams in | :32:38. | :32:43.
attack from any little break any little turnover. | :32:44. | :32:55.
defence, they will be a hard team to stop. I enjoyed watching Jamie | :32:56. | :33:04.
Roberts and George North hit holes, inside and outside defenders | :33:05. | :33:07.
simultaneously. That is so hard to defend. It is almost unstoppable. | :33:08. | :33:14.
They will always get over the gain line. It is always a very simple | :33:15. | :33:19.
move. It sounds to me like Wales might win a test | :33:20. | :34:49.
The crowd have seen something. Something in the back area, years | :34:50. | :35:20.
getting up. Jones does well. Under pressure. Italy fancy the turnover | :35:21. | :35:28.
but overeager. And Wales can just steady themselves. I think he might | :35:29. | :35:33.
see yellow. Not what Italy needed and he will | :35:34. | :35:50.
spend ten minutes in the sin-bin. Here we go. As predicted. Evans at | :35:51. | :35:56.
the back. In the backs as well. Watkin is there, Thomas is there. | :35:57. | :36:03.
Italy have stood their ground so far but Evans just needs a Smith of that | :36:04. | :36:15.
line and he is over. Smith, it is Milan. Half a gap. Cannot quite get | :36:16. | :36:22.
away can Giles. Again Wales on the front foot, excellent pass, | :36:23. | :36:25.
Williams. Great play from Wales. Try number three. Just short. Smith | :36:26. | :36:42.
again, how did tops again. Fawcett in support. Smith once more. They | :36:43. | :36:44.
have got numbers if they can move it. Smith again. They have options | :36:45. | :36:58.
this side. Desperate to cross, they cross. Murphy is there. And the | :36:59. | :37:05.
referee awards the try. It crams it to Wales. It is Harrison Keddie, man | :37:06. | :37:10.
of the match last week, scores for Wales, the Grand Slam is on its way | :37:11. | :37:17.
to Colwyn Bay. We said from the start we are confident in our | :37:18. | :37:21.
ability but as a team, we have enjoyed and pushed ourselves to be | :37:22. | :37:24.
really humble Madoff the field. Within ourselves, we knew what we | :37:25. | :37:28.
were capable of. I could not been prouder. | :37:29. | :37:48.
So with Wales having secured their first ever Grand Slam at this level, | :37:49. | :37:55.
they will head off to Manchester in June for the Junior world champions | :37:56. | :37:56.
as 6-nations titleholders. It really is a great achievement. | :37:57. | :38:12.
Jason, the coach, is here, alongside Harrison. You must be so proud. | :38:13. | :38:16.
Extremely pleased. The tournament could not have gone any better. Full | :38:17. | :38:21.
credit to the players and the other cultures, Geraint Lewis, Richard | :38:22. | :38:24.
Hodges and Chris Horseman. They did a fantastic job with the players. | :38:25. | :38:29.
They happen superb on and off the field. We keep hearing about this | :38:30. | :38:37.
amazing team spirit. Yes, it is something we have placed huge | :38:38. | :38:40.
significance on throughout the tournament and we have shown it on | :38:41. | :38:43.
the field. They are really close and that will only get stronger until we | :38:44. | :38:51.
reach the World Cup. They are a great group. It is a pleasure to be | :38:52. | :38:56.
a part of it. Harris and we will have a look at your try. How does it | :38:57. | :39:01.
feel to be a Grand Slam champion? A bit surreal. It has not quite sunk | :39:02. | :39:10.
in. There is the ball. That ball has not been seen, by the way. This team | :39:11. | :39:16.
spirit you have got any side is just amazing. When did you realise the | :39:17. | :39:21.
Grand Slam was on? Did you think halfway through the championship, we | :39:22. | :39:25.
can do this? We have always believed in what we can do and that team | :39:26. | :39:32.
spirit God is the end. Jason, the adjusting for you now is, do you sit | :39:33. | :39:37.
down with Warren Gatland over the next couple of months, there is a | :39:38. | :39:39.
suggestion that some of these boys I'd go on the tour to New Zealand? | :39:40. | :39:44.
Or do you want to keep them for the Junior World Cup? We have a lot of | :39:45. | :39:51.
dialogue with the national cultures. They have all been superbly last | :39:52. | :39:54.
couple of months. And that decision will be left to those cultures. What | :39:55. | :39:59.
is important to us is when they leave the 20s, we have done all we | :40:00. | :40:06.
can to develop those players but we are in a strong position and | :40:07. | :40:09.
hopefully they will go on to bigger and better things in the future. You | :40:10. | :40:13.
have made our country very proud. The under 20s, Grand Slam champions. | :40:14. | :40:18.
Well done. Very proud of you. Let's catch up now then with Wales' women. | :40:19. | :40:29.
Wales' women's main aim during this campaign was to ensure litigation | :40:30. | :40:35.
for next year 's World Cup in Ireland and that was achieved | :40:36. | :40:38.
earlier on in the tournament. At which two wins and two defeats so | :40:39. | :40:42.
far, the side were determined to end with a victory against Italy at the | :40:43. | :40:47.
Talbot athletic ground in Aberavon. Wales started brightly but it was | :40:48. | :40:53.
the Italians who opened the scoring. The Welsh defence has been strong in | :40:54. | :40:56.
previous weeks but today it was in a muddle. The second try was | :40:57. | :41:05.
completely against the run of play. Wales spilled the ball inside the | :41:06. | :41:10.
Italian 22, which fell nicely again for Italy. The number ten running 80 | :41:11. | :41:15.
metres to cross for a second try. With Italy down to 14, Wales took | :41:16. | :41:21.
advantage. Determined work by the forwards but it was Italy who took a | :41:22. | :41:26.
13-5 lead going into the break. It was same again from Wales in the | :41:27. | :41:32.
second half with Harris scoring her second try. Things took a turn for | :41:33. | :41:36.
the worse as Charis Phillips was stretchered off with a suspected | :41:37. | :41:39.
broken leg. Wales were unable to turn possession into points and a | :41:40. | :41:43.
second penalty saw the Italians hold. France claimed the | :41:44. | :41:48.
championship after denying England the Grand Slam. Wales finished | :41:49. | :41:52.
fourth ahead of the Italians on points difference. | :41:53. | :41:58.
A pretty disappointing campaign. I suppose you started off pretty well | :41:59. | :42:04.
and you had a chance to build on that success but it did not really | :42:05. | :42:10.
work for you. We had a couple of really good games against Scotland | :42:11. | :42:15.
and France. No one can argue that our defensive performance against | :42:16. | :42:18.
France was the best we have ever put in but unfortunately then the two | :42:19. | :42:22.
games following that were both disappointing. I think as a squad we | :42:23. | :42:26.
know that we did not start the game out of the blocks. It took as the | :42:27. | :42:29.
first 40 minutes, which anybody knows you cannot lay an | :42:30. | :42:34.
international rugby game and expect to win it in 40 minutes. You had a | :42:35. | :42:39.
couple of chances but lacking those clinical edge. Yes, both our tries | :42:40. | :42:51.
were scored from our forwards. It is now the tiny little skills with the | :42:52. | :42:54.
backs to make sure we're getting those finishes out wide. We hear | :42:55. | :43:03.
that Carys Phillips has broken her leg. We hope that is not the case | :43:04. | :43:08.
because she is a pivotal part of our pack. I am sure that she will have a | :43:09. | :43:15.
speedy recovery and we will get her back soon. What is next for you? | :43:16. | :43:20.
Some of the girls are going into sevens but as of tomorrow it is part | :43:21. | :43:25.
of our 18 month journey towards the women's World Cup. For us now, it is | :43:26. | :43:32.
getting those little things right and the finishes and making sure we | :43:33. | :43:35.
get those points out wide to put this in a position then for the | :43:36. | :43:40.
6-nations next year and then the World Cup to improve on our rankings | :43:41. | :43:43.
and then make ourselves a force to be reckoned with. Thank you very | :43:44. | :43:50.
much for coming in. Wish you all the very best and let's bring you right | :43:51. | :43:52.
up to date with the Pro12. Excellent service off the top. On | :43:53. | :44:05.
the crash ball and the offload. Quick possessions here, it could be | :44:06. | :44:13.
on. Missed pass, first try for Munster. Rhys Patchell, according to | :44:14. | :44:29.
minds. Keeps possession. Switch of direction. Josh Navidi. Weak | :44:30. | :44:33.
tackling in midfield. Josh Navidi has support and it is a stroll for | :44:34. | :44:42.
Macauley Cook. The Blues will look to go down the front. It is a front | :44:43. | :44:46.
Peel, how cheeky is that from Matthew Rees? | :44:47. | :44:56.
No surprises what Munster will do here. And the Blues are on the back | :44:57. | :45:03.
foot. There is a penalty coming but they want more. They get more. | :45:04. | :45:13.
Cherie at the bottom of the pile. Here they come again. From deep, | :45:14. | :45:19.
Munster. That has been punched and it is Garyn Smith and he will go all | :45:20. | :45:25.
the way. Garyn Smith, pickpocketing the Munster attack. | :45:26. | :45:31.
The Blues come again. Looking for that bonus point try. Evans, Rhys | :45:32. | :45:41.
Patchell, great work from Rhys Patchell. Munster, the game could | :45:42. | :45:53.
well be lost but they will not be giving up any time soon. O'Donoghue. | :45:54. | :46:01.
A third try for Munster. The first time we have beaten Munster here for | :46:02. | :46:04.
seven years apparently, which is a good achievement but way too long to | :46:05. | :46:08.
wait for a win against Munster at home. That win for the Blues sees | :46:09. | :46:13.
them remain ninth but adds to the pressure on the Ospreys as they look | :46:14. | :46:17.
for European qualification. Glasgow beat Leinster on Friday. The | :46:18. | :46:19.
defending champions are up to sixth. Six Welsh derbies over the next six | :46:20. | :46:29.
weeks and there are some really tasty matchups. Next week, it is the | :46:30. | :46:35.
Ospreys against the Scarlets. And a head-to-head between these two | :46:36. | :46:36.
Canadians. You move to sunny Wales, how are you | :46:37. | :46:57.
enjoying the mumbles? It is good. It is a nice little area here. Loving | :46:58. | :47:01.
the beaches and the coffee shops. Ice cream shops. It is nice when the | :47:02. | :47:08.
weather is like today. But it has been a hard few months with the | :47:09. | :47:14.
weather. I can only have one sugar, this is on TV. How have you found | :47:15. | :47:23.
the public just living in Wales? They are quite crazy about rugby. I | :47:24. | :47:29.
try to get to see as many of the games as I can in the 6-nations just | :47:30. | :47:32.
for that exact reason. The whole city is buzzing. I do think there is | :47:33. | :47:37.
really a stadium in the world that has the crazy Welsh fans and | :47:38. | :47:43.
especially when the stadium is closed and everything is amplified | :47:44. | :47:46.
that much more. In having it right in the middle of town with all the | :47:47. | :47:51.
stripper bars and people there I was before the game, having fun. The | :47:52. | :48:02.
stripper bars? The strip. I did not have a clue. Stripper bars are the | :48:03. | :48:08.
best. People are there hours before the game! You have been here for a | :48:09. | :48:17.
little bit now and played a couple of games for the Scarlets and eight | :48:18. | :48:23.
few of the derbies? Derbies everywhere are the same. Coming from | :48:24. | :48:27.
Glasgow for six years, having the huge rivalry with Edinburgh, I was | :48:28. | :48:33.
used to that. But then you come here to Wales where rugby is the normal | :48:34. | :48:38.
one sport and a lot more people know about what is going on and all the | :48:39. | :48:42.
Welsh guys will be coming back. Everyone will be firing and ready | :48:43. | :48:47.
for it. It was funny when I first came to the Ospreys, the one game of | :48:48. | :48:51.
the year that you could not lose was the Scarlets at home. The Scarlets | :48:52. | :48:55.
will want to get to the top of the table and you guys want to start | :48:56. | :48:59.
putting back-to-back games together. We want to get top six if we want to | :49:00. | :49:05.
be in Europe. It is a massive game: not only a derby game at the points | :49:06. | :49:08.
are vital. Both teams will want to get points for different reasons. I | :49:09. | :49:14.
use starting? I do not know. Are you? I do not know. You have been | :49:15. | :49:22.
resting all season for this one, to be fresh. I have been playing every | :49:23. | :49:26.
game. I have been training well recently. Obviously, the Welsh | :49:27. | :49:32.
players coming back, Jake Ball, James King for us. They have been | :49:33. | :49:36.
involved in the Welsh squad. They will be a bit of a battle going on | :49:37. | :49:41.
there. Definitely. Jake Ball is a massive leader for us. Front foot | :49:42. | :49:48.
kind of guy. At the end of the day, when you play these derby games, it | :49:49. | :49:52.
is all about who can create momentum and that starts with the forwards. | :49:53. | :49:59.
There is the potential for you and I to go up against each other. If that | :50:00. | :50:04.
does happen, it'll be a good class. We only done it once. Who do you | :50:05. | :50:09.
think would be the best winger you have played against and why? You | :50:10. | :50:13.
would be up there, even though you were macro I have only played you | :50:14. | :50:20.
once. I have to go low on you. But I have googled Jeff Hassler, gridiron, | :50:21. | :50:30.
highlights. How come when you score tries in rugby, do you not to those | :50:31. | :50:35.
crazy celebrations that you used to in football? You used to do a little | :50:36. | :50:47.
fire stoking. It is expected. Rugby is more of a | :50:48. | :50:53.
gentleman sport. You have got to expect to score and not make a scene | :50:54. | :50:58.
of it. Maybe if I score against you or I will pull that off. I hope to | :50:59. | :51:04.
see you on the field next week. Best of luck and may the best team win. | :51:05. | :51:08.
Good luck for the rest of the season. I hope you guys make the | :51:09. | :51:13.
play-offs. What is it like when you go from being international | :51:14. | :51:16.
team-mates and buddies into knocking seven bells out of each other? It is | :51:17. | :51:17.
good fun. There will be little seven bells out of each other? It is | :51:18. | :51:31.
as it is a big game, you will not have any problem getting motivated. | :51:32. | :51:36.
The fact it is a derby, Ospreys Scarlets, the boys will be firing on | :51:37. | :51:40.
all cylinders. And Ken Owens going up against Scott Baldwin. There is | :51:41. | :51:45.
nothing between them. Scott Baldwin is one of the most improved players | :51:46. | :51:51.
in Wales over the last few seasons. Ken Owens made such a difference at | :51:52. | :51:53.
Twickenham when he came on. Ken Owens made such a difference at | :51:54. | :53:29.
well. Let's bring you back to Wales and the 6-nations and looking ahead | :53:30. | :53:32.
to New Zealand. If you were a schoolteacher and you were being | :53:33. | :53:35.
asked to give your end of term report, what would you give Wales? | :53:36. | :53:42.
Areas to improve on? Marks out of ten for getting continuity in the | :53:43. | :53:46.
front row. They have had the same front row throughout the 6-nations, | :53:47. | :53:49.
something they have struggled with before, the tight head side, Samson | :53:50. | :53:54.
Lee, he is like a cornerstone. He has massive power behind him and the | :53:55. | :53:59.
second rows, pure quality. They have stability upfront. Looking from the | :54:00. | :54:07.
outside, there is one thing I would change, the variation of attack. | :54:08. | :54:11.
They did it on Saturday, Arial, around the ruck, short, close, | :54:12. | :54:15.
deception, against a blitz defence, two lines of attack may be to help | :54:16. | :54:20.
off-load a bit of pressure. That'll be one thing but that takes time and | :54:21. | :54:23.
the more they play together, they more they get that rhythm and | :54:24. | :54:26.
especially against New Zealand, it is gone to be tough. It is good to | :54:27. | :54:34.
be expansive game plan. It feels like you are playing against 15 | :54:35. | :54:39.
constantly all the time. Something that vary in that game will be | :54:40. | :54:43.
massive. Any chance for Wales in New Zealand question mark there is | :54:44. | :54:46.
always a chance. I completely agree with what Xavier Rush said, if ever | :54:47. | :54:52.
there is a time to play New Zealand, it is when these players are not | :54:53. | :54:56.
there. They have been the catalyst of everything New Zealand have done | :54:57. | :54:58.
well over the last few years. However there are to be other | :54:59. | :55:03.
players replacing them and coming through. And they will be world | :55:04. | :55:08.
class in a matter of time. It is the hardest place you are going to go | :55:09. | :55:12.
and play rugby. It is the toughest place and the toughest plays in the | :55:13. | :55:15.
world out there but there is always a chance. It is gone to be hard and | :55:16. | :55:18.
it will be interesting to see what kind of score they take their | :55:19. | :55:21.
because a lot of experienced players have played a lot of rugby over the | :55:22. | :55:25.
last year and a half and maybe it is a time for these players to have a | :55:26. | :55:29.
bit of a rest and we have the under 20s boys who were looking superb in | :55:30. | :55:34.
the 6-nations, they might want to be pushed right into the deep end and | :55:35. | :55:37.
experience some of the red -- toughest rugby they were level | :55:38. | :55:41.
expedience. How do you think Wales will do? We are competitive and we | :55:42. | :55:46.
have not had that for a long time. You have to take your hat off to the | :55:47. | :55:50.
current squad. They are up there and they will go up there with | :55:51. | :55:54.
expectations high. If they can have all their best players playing and | :55:55. | :55:57.
they play at their best, they are capable of beating New Zealand. That | :55:58. | :56:01.
is the thing. The players that they will bring in will not appear from | :56:02. | :56:04.
nowhere. They have been in the background for the last three or | :56:05. | :56:07.
four years but not in the first team. I think if we can adapt, Hibs | :56:08. | :56:16.
midfield, good communication, try and get mismatches out why, I think | :56:17. | :56:22.
we can improve a lot and if we do the basics, in defence, set piece, | :56:23. | :56:27.
as we have been, then if we can get our attack working well, I think we | :56:28. | :56:32.
can only improve. We are running out of time but your assessment of Wales | :56:33. | :56:38.
this season? Something like seven out of ten. We are runners-up, which | :56:39. | :56:42.
going into yesterday's game, it felt like we were going into a Wooden | :56:43. | :56:45.
Spoon game. But we are where we are. We are a fit and organised and | :56:46. | :56:50.
committed side. One thing you cannot question with this team is the | :56:51. | :56:53.
commitment. They always come back so well. You have been brilliant | :56:54. | :57:03.
tonight. Thank you very much to Martyn Williams, Jonathan Davies, | :57:04. | :57:11.
Shane Williams, Xavier Rush, thank you very much. That is it from us. | :57:12. | :57:15.
As ever, it has been emotional. | :57:16. | :57:20. |
