As the race for the Pro12 play-offs enters the final straits, the | :00:13. | :00:25.
Ospreys trip up at Treviso. Six Nations ended in chaos and | :00:26. | :00:31.
confusion, we will find out what the Butler saw. Wales went from caution | :00:32. | :00:36.
to full-blown melodrama, that is progress. And speaking of progress, | :00:37. | :00:41.
and you team in the cup final as the North continues to rise. RGC the | :00:42. | :00:53.
history makers. He might well do it again as he helps steer his old club | :00:54. | :01:01.
to next year's bowl final. And we meet a supermum and her two proud | :01:02. | :01:07.
boys. From Scrum V, happy Mother's Day. Good evening and happy Mother's | :01:08. | :01:17.
Day. We have a packed show. Ian Gough is in the engine room, two | :01:18. | :01:23.
fly-halfs to guide us around the park and we will kick off with the | :01:24. | :01:27.
Pro12 and the Ospreys' bid to return to the top two. Inches away from the | :01:28. | :01:37.
try line, Ospreys defence is desperate. They could do with | :01:38. | :01:44.
another turnover year because Treviso like Cel look irresistible. | :01:45. | :01:50.
Over the line, the whistle goes, Nigel Owens in no doubt whatsoever. | :01:51. | :02:01.
Sam Davies, a lovely off-load. Plenty of space. No one will touch | :02:02. | :02:11.
him. A bit of Sam Davies magic. This is the one Ospreys player who has | :02:12. | :02:15.
looked threatening all evening and he got a walk in the. There it is. | :02:16. | :02:27.
Box-kick. Howells has barely touched the ball this half. Look at Giles | :02:28. | :02:33.
go. He is right through the middle. He has put on that after burners. | :02:34. | :02:38.
Brendon Leonard on the outside. Sam Davies on his outside. Brendan | :02:39. | :02:42.
hasn't got the gas but he mixes we to the try line. A despairing | :02:43. | :02:47.
tackle. The ball has gone loose in contact. It has gone to the Italian | :02:48. | :02:56.
side and Treviso have been let off the hook after a scintillating | :02:57. | :03:00.
counterattack. Now there is time to get the ball away to the foreign | :03:01. | :03:14.
words. -- for -- forwards a golden opportunity that went begging. | :03:15. | :03:24.
Treviso can sense victory. A 5-point cushion. They will not be doing | :03:25. | :03:31.
anything overly adventurous. Round the side. McKinlay has removed his | :03:32. | :03:41.
goggles for this attempt. It is good. The flags are up. The clock is | :03:42. | :03:51.
now in the raid, the crowd are enthusiastically counting it down. | :03:52. | :03:56.
The Ospreys will be condemned to their second ever defeat to Treviso. | :03:57. | :04:05.
Ian McKinlay triumphantly hits the ball into touch. The whistle goes | :04:06. | :04:07.
and you can see what that means today's players -- Treviso players. | :04:08. | :04:17.
I thought we were disastrous and we made things difficult for ourselves. | :04:18. | :04:21.
Towards the back end we lost composure. Everything we worked on | :04:22. | :04:24.
throughout the season, everything we haven't done, and it is something | :04:25. | :04:30.
which is a pretty sombre change. We are pretty embarrassed. | :04:31. | :04:32.
He has never anything less than honest. He was furious at the | :04:33. | :04:40.
conclusion of that game. You have played with and under him, what | :04:41. | :04:45.
would he say in the dressing room? He is known as a grumpy man but a | :04:46. | :04:49.
good coach. We have all been involved in those matches, you | :04:50. | :04:54.
turned up and you have been undercut out 10% by the opposition you | :04:55. | :05:00.
thought you should walk over. He could go in there, I don't think he | :05:01. | :05:03.
would have been charging at them because those boys will be | :05:04. | :05:05.
devastated and sometimes you need to pick some boys up. Training on | :05:06. | :05:12.
Tuesday might be a bit tasty but I think he will try to get the | :05:13. | :05:16.
confidence up and do the hard work when he gets back in. Virtually | :05:17. | :05:20.
everything went wrong on the night. Their defence has been great this | :05:21. | :05:27.
season. Almost from the very first minute the warning signs were there. | :05:28. | :05:31.
Normally they come off the line and stop teams for playing, especially | :05:32. | :05:37.
Treviso. When you go away to them you know they will come at you. You | :05:38. | :05:40.
have to be disciplined and make it hard for them. This is the kick-off | :05:41. | :05:49.
of the match. Keep them back at the 22. Suddenly they are away and from | :05:50. | :05:55.
this minutes Treviso were just playing. They were not putting | :05:56. | :06:04.
pressure, Ospreys. To revise or macro had a quick ball. McKinlay was | :06:05. | :06:10.
through on the inside. They are drifting across, not like Ospreys. | :06:11. | :06:17.
When they had the ball in attack, silly mistakes. Passing too early, | :06:18. | :06:23.
and line-outs were another issue. Whether it was overthrown or under | :06:24. | :06:30.
throne. Everything they tried worked against them. They have so many good | :06:31. | :06:37.
kickers in the backline with Dan Evans and Sam Davies. There seemed | :06:38. | :06:42.
to be a policy of taking it back to Treviso and waiting for them to make | :06:43. | :06:48.
errors. But they didn't. It wasn't until the last quarter when they | :06:49. | :06:51.
decided to really run the ball back against them and keep possession. | :06:52. | :06:56.
Some have suggested that the team was relatively weak. But the 23 that | :06:57. | :07:04.
took the field was more than good enough to win away against a revise | :07:05. | :07:18.
or macro. -- Treviso. Complacency? It happens. It sometimes happens you | :07:19. | :07:31.
just undercook it. The result in Edinburgh was a good Ospreys | :07:32. | :07:35.
performance, under the cosh with the defence and everything and they were | :07:36. | :07:39.
on the edge. They weren't on the edge and that is disappointing | :07:40. | :07:41.
coming to the end of the season when everything is to play for and they | :07:42. | :07:45.
want the top two slots, this is a big banana skin. A lot to work on. | :07:46. | :07:48.
Training could be tasty. So, the Ospreys losing out | :07:49. | :07:56.
in Treviso is a pretty big story. But undoubtedly the biggest story | :07:57. | :07:59.
of the week has been the proposed If you did happen to miss it, | :08:00. | :08:02.
here's a quick summary. On Friday night, Lewis Evans led the | :08:03. | :08:14.
Dragons out on the occasion of his 200th appearance. It was an | :08:15. | :08:18.
emotional moment in more ways than one because the Dragons stand on the | :08:19. | :08:23.
brink of extinction unless, according to the power brokers, they | :08:24. | :08:26.
accept the union's offer of takeover. It is not a set of options | :08:27. | :08:33.
which will be tabled. It is a proposal which will either be voted | :08:34. | :08:37.
through or not. If it isn't supported then the consequences will | :08:38. | :08:41.
need to be understood by all. And those consequences could be no | :08:42. | :08:51.
Dragons? Correct. For the deal to happen, 75% of the shareholders have | :08:52. | :08:57.
to agree to it. The doubters have understandable fears about handing | :08:58. | :09:01.
over their only acid, Rodney Parade, and there are suspicions that they | :09:02. | :09:05.
could cut and run if things don't work out. There are those who | :09:06. | :09:11.
believe that the union could plan to downgrade Dragons. If we move it to | :09:12. | :09:16.
North Wales then we just don't do that. It is a lot of trouble to go | :09:17. | :09:21.
to to then move it so we would need, if this would happen, we would need | :09:22. | :09:26.
to invest several million in both the transaction and the pitch and | :09:27. | :09:30.
stadium and then we should probably squash the development side of it. | :09:31. | :09:35.
We are very much trying to put the region back where it belongs, a very | :09:36. | :09:40.
proud history. The Dragons' region is the biggest in terms of number of | :09:41. | :09:47.
clubs and Gwent has produced some of Wales must -- most celebrated | :09:48. | :09:54.
players. Whatever their opinions, there is one of these truth, this is | :09:55. | :09:58.
the most significant crossroads the Dragons have arrived that since | :09:59. | :09:59.
their inception. Important times in the Dragons. Fast | :10:00. | :10:11.
approaching, the volt will happen, we have heard both sides of the | :10:12. | :10:14.
argument but the rhetoric seems to be if this isn't voted through then | :10:15. | :10:18.
it could be the end of professional rugby in Gwent. From that he would | :10:19. | :10:24.
think there has to be only one outcome, the warning signs coming | :10:25. | :10:28.
through that there are lots of people against what seems to be the | :10:29. | :10:33.
logical step for and lots of reasons why with Newport's history and | :10:34. | :10:37.
assets, the ground is so important. We nearly went bust and that was all | :10:38. | :10:44.
because of assets and not having a ground. The weight is going at the | :10:45. | :10:48.
moment and the chat from Martin Hazel and Stuart Davis is that it | :10:49. | :10:51.
doesn't go through they will want their money back and there is only | :10:52. | :10:56.
one thing to do, to sell the ground possibly to developers at a lower | :10:57. | :11:04.
value. You can understand the reservation of the die-hard Newport | :11:05. | :11:06.
fans who are worried about losing Rodney Parade but also likely -- | :11:07. | :11:13.
ultimately if the receiver is coming they will face financial disaster | :11:14. | :11:20.
and the ground could go anyway. They haven't really got any options by | :11:21. | :11:23.
the sound of it and if they don't thought it through it will be the | :11:24. | :11:26.
end of professional rugby in Gwent and it will be a sad day for Welsh | :11:27. | :11:31.
rugby. A lot of conspiracy theories but we mentioned a couple in the | :11:32. | :11:39.
piece, people thinking that the WRU's intentions aren't altruistic | :11:40. | :11:46.
and it is a smoke screen to... But they have dismissed it as nonsense. | :11:47. | :11:52.
You were involved with the Celtic Warriors. We have come a long way. | :11:53. | :11:56.
It needs a professional team and professional rugby in Gwent. 70 | :11:57. | :12:04.
clubs, a huge and very proud region. Massive players have come through | :12:05. | :12:10.
the ranks in some years. I imagine some people are stuck in their ways. | :12:11. | :12:16.
Every traditional club. They have to have faith that this is what they | :12:17. | :12:26.
need to do to get into the next phase then they have to. The chat | :12:27. | :12:33.
coming through is that they wanted to be rugby in Gwent. If they get | :12:34. | :12:38.
involved then the pitch will be sorted out. We used to win the home | :12:39. | :12:44.
games. It was a fortress and that needs to be put back on. It is not | :12:45. | :12:49.
happening as it is so I think it is the only way it can happen. They | :12:50. | :12:54.
said publicly that they are committed to the long-term future of | :12:55. | :12:57.
rugby in Gwent and dismissed the idea that they will take it to North | :12:58. | :13:01.
Wales. But there is no provision for a length of tenure at the Dragons | :13:02. | :13:07.
and Newport and they would be reassured that said ten or 20 or | :13:08. | :13:12.
however many years. I'm sure they will cover themselves as well | :13:13. | :13:15.
because they do not know how that will pan out. This is a new thing | :13:16. | :13:20.
for anybody and they say it will be a positive thing and the chat from | :13:21. | :13:23.
the players, they think it is positive and they wanted to happen | :13:24. | :13:27.
because they see things moving forward off the field as well. | :13:28. | :13:31.
Structure changes and the amount of players coming in and developing | :13:32. | :13:36.
that. We all want the old Newport Dragons to come through and be a | :13:37. | :13:39.
real force and they are not at the moment. I think the WRU are slightly | :13:40. | :13:44.
careful about committing to anything long-term. But I would be surprised | :13:45. | :13:50.
if they were to say what they said now and then a few years say it | :13:51. | :13:53.
isn't working and we will move it elsewhere. The WRU are contractually | :13:54. | :13:59.
obliged to provide four Welsh regional teams to the Pro12. If this | :14:00. | :14:04.
version of the Dragons bites the dust I am hearing they will create a | :14:05. | :14:07.
Phoenix from the ashes Dragons and place it in Ebbw Vale and start | :14:08. | :14:13.
again almost from scratch. That would set the cat amongst the | :14:14. | :14:20.
pigeons. A lot of the Gwent clubs are still seen as Newport Gwent | :14:21. | :14:26.
Dragons and I think he will get that with a regional set up based in | :14:27. | :14:30.
Newport. I think they need to get it sorted as soon as possible. A lot of | :14:31. | :14:34.
good youngsters are coming through the region and I think they need to | :14:35. | :14:38.
increase the standard of signing of players they get and push it | :14:39. | :14:44.
forward. The unions say if it goes through they will be able to invest | :14:45. | :14:48.
more in players. Gavin Henson is on the way for next season. | :14:49. | :14:53.
So it's been a week of distraction for the players this week. | :14:54. | :14:56.
Could they put the off-field issues to one side, and pull | :14:57. | :14:59.
off an unexpected win against play-off chasing Ulster? | :15:00. | :15:05.
There is room out wide, a clever kick. That has gone loose. This | :15:06. | :15:14.
could be a triad it is a try. What they start by Ulster. Craig Gilroy | :15:15. | :15:22.
gets in for the try. Griffiths has had another good game. There are men | :15:23. | :15:28.
over. Interception. Had Gilroy called that, he was done and dusted. | :15:29. | :15:37.
REFEREE: I am going to yellow card him, | :15:38. | :15:42.
deliberate knock-on. Well, well, well. That could change | :15:43. | :15:51.
things. Knocked back on the Dragons' side. Swept up by Brok Harris. | :15:52. | :15:57.
Dragons looking for men on the narrow side. He is over. The second | :15:58. | :16:08.
movement was legal. Henderson low and good driving | :16:09. | :16:11.
position and again Harris with the tackling. Back inside. Beautiful | :16:12. | :16:22.
stuff by Jared Payne. Here goes Treadwell. Nothing too brave now. He | :16:23. | :16:28.
needs to settle the ball and get it back and Ulster half to clear it. He | :16:29. | :16:36.
has been charged down and that is it. That may be a try. My goodness. | :16:37. | :16:46.
I think he has got it. REFEREE: | :16:47. | :16:50.
You may award the try. COMMENTATOR: | :16:51. | :16:58.
The try has been awarded. The Dragons will have to run it from | :16:59. | :17:03.
here. That has been knocked forward by the Dragons. That is an illegal | :17:04. | :17:12.
tackle by Ulster. Did he leave the shoulder behind deliberately. It | :17:13. | :17:13.
looks very much like it. Paul Marshall urging them forward. | :17:14. | :17:30.
But the Dragons have died in the referee says that is once. Are they | :17:31. | :17:36.
over the line? They are over the line and that is a third try for | :17:37. | :17:40.
Ulster. Kingsley Jones admitted afterwards | :17:41. | :17:42.
that the takeover talk had been a distraction, | :17:43. | :17:44.
but ironically, they put in arguably one of their best performances | :17:45. | :17:47.
of the season against a fully loaded Ironically, apart from the end, they | :17:48. | :17:55.
probably put in one of their best performances of the season. So close | :17:56. | :18:00.
but I have watched them a few times this year and they have gone away | :18:01. | :18:03.
from teams and put a score between them but never really seen to see | :18:04. | :18:07.
them off in the last ten minutes. That little bit of extra quality | :18:08. | :18:11.
they are lacking something that Ulster have got, that extra quality | :18:12. | :18:16.
has seen them through. Time to move on. | :18:17. | :18:18.
In some ways, the Six Nations already feels like a distant memory, | :18:19. | :18:21.
or a bad dream, depending on your viewpoint. | :18:22. | :18:23.
It's only been a week since the Paris farce, | :18:24. | :18:25.
just about long enough for Eddie Butler to put things | :18:26. | :18:27.
The romantic bookends of the campaign, Rome and Paris. The start | :18:28. | :18:41.
and the end, the win without a bonus point and the defeat with a bonus | :18:42. | :18:47.
point. The professional, slightly joyless open around the confusion, | :18:48. | :18:53.
the absurdity of the close. Jonathan Davies has written the word shambles | :18:54. | :18:58.
down. In terms of being good theatre, Wales went from caution to | :18:59. | :19:03.
full-blown melodrama. That is progress. But being good theatre | :19:04. | :19:07.
isn't enough. There seems to be an ongoing general dissatisfaction. It | :19:08. | :19:12.
is a bit unfair that we should have ended up under pressure here. The | :19:13. | :19:21.
scrummage. After a 6-nations where the set piece had generally been an | :19:22. | :19:29.
area of strength. Paris is tough if you are weak at the restarts. | :19:30. | :19:34.
Perhaps the difference between now and successes of the past was | :19:35. | :19:41.
subtlety. The past by Dan Lydiate to Dan Biggar on the hoof downfield by | :19:42. | :19:45.
Sam Warburton. What worked and what didn't. It is unfair to pick on the | :19:46. | :19:54.
former captain. He was exceptional. And his performance against Ireland | :19:55. | :19:57.
was extraordinary. Subtlety was given the night off and the game was | :19:58. | :20:04.
no worse for it. He formed a double act with Justin Tipuric. It was a | :20:05. | :20:09.
unit within a unit. What innovation did Wales bring to the championship? | :20:10. | :20:17.
Justin Tipuric at the line-out. The Liam Williams try against England. | :20:18. | :20:22.
Putting George North in the stocks to bring the very best out of him. | :20:23. | :20:34.
That was very distinctly Welsh. Others showed spirit. In fact, | :20:35. | :20:39.
spirit was clearly not an issue. Ross Moriarty, the wrecking ball. | :20:40. | :20:48.
But here we come to one of those head scratching moments. Why take | :20:49. | :20:55.
him off? Because the GPS said? On the day, GPS rules over gut instinct | :20:56. | :21:01.
is the day that we should all join those that don't turn up to watch | :21:02. | :21:06.
rugby any more, joined them playing their computer games. For the | :21:07. | :21:13.
moment, there is enough to keep us glued to the occasion. A defeat to | :21:14. | :21:17.
England and the victory over Ireland, both dramatic to the very | :21:18. | :21:20.
end, both could have gone either way. And in all the 20 minute | :21:21. | :21:28.
quarters played, that is 21 counting the Paris supplementary, how many | :21:29. | :21:32.
bad ones were there? One in Rome, two in Murrayfield, three in Paris. | :21:33. | :21:41.
And that final eight, seven minutes against England. | :21:42. | :21:49.
That still leaves 14 and a half good quarters but here we are, eight | :21:50. | :21:57.
tries, fifth in the table and a bit dissatisfied. If not for lack of | :21:58. | :22:01.
good theatre or spirit, certainly not for lack of courage. It remains | :22:02. | :22:07.
a technical matter of being masters in those areas where space and time | :22:08. | :22:14.
are reduced like never before, life on the gain line, protecting the | :22:15. | :22:19.
ball in the contact area, areas where New Zealand keep their skills | :22:20. | :22:23.
intact, those places where the All Blacks pounce on error. On that | :22:24. | :22:30.
score, we should worry assume that more of our spirited team have | :22:31. | :22:36.
slipped out of contention for the Lions tour than have put their hands | :22:37. | :22:40.
up. We ended up two wins better than Italy and two wins worse than the | :22:41. | :22:46.
champions. We began and ended in the capitals of romance. We played our | :22:47. | :22:52.
part in all the drama but we got a bit stuck in the lower middle and | :22:53. | :22:56.
lower middle of the road isn't really us. | :22:57. | :23:08.
A quick congratulations to Wales under 18 's, they have beaten their | :23:09. | :23:14.
English counterparts this afternoon at Ebbw Vale. Congratulations to | :23:15. | :23:18.
them. A lyrical approach to the 6-nations from Eddie Butler, as you | :23:19. | :23:25.
would expect. Fifth place, only eight tries in five games, the worst | :23:26. | :23:28.
finish in ten years and we can highlight some of the positives but | :23:29. | :23:32.
ultimately, that table does not lie. No, it does not. We were a few | :23:33. | :23:37.
minutes away from beating England and last play away from beating | :23:38. | :23:41.
France but if you take that away and the passion we had when we beat | :23:42. | :23:45.
Ireland and played against England, have we developed since the start of | :23:46. | :23:50.
this season? Are we a better side? Have we Dinefwr -- developed players | :23:51. | :23:51.
can lock no, is the answer to that. So, I don't think that we have moved | :23:52. | :24:09.
forward in any great shape, which is the disappointing thing, which is | :24:10. | :24:19.
why we feel slightly underwhelmed. Actually, I don't think we have | :24:20. | :24:23.
actually moved forward. The revolution of Wales' attacking game. | :24:24. | :24:32.
Have you seen much evidence of that in the last five or six months? I | :24:33. | :24:38.
don't think so. It seems to be the same kind of physical dominance, | :24:39. | :24:42.
trying to dominate teams and when we come up against a team that can | :24:43. | :24:45.
match that, we don't seem to have a plan B and that... All the other | :24:46. | :24:51.
teams around us are developing. I think they are trying to develop as | :24:52. | :24:55.
a team but we are certainly not seeing it and we have not seen it | :24:56. | :25:00.
for a good 18 months now. It is the inconsistency that is so maddening. | :25:01. | :25:05.
You can put a blinder of a performance in against England and | :25:06. | :25:08.
should have gone on to win that game, likewise Ireland. But they | :25:09. | :25:13.
didn't seem to be able to back it but away from home. One real bad | :25:14. | :25:19.
half was that second half against Scotland. But I think the coaches | :25:20. | :25:27.
have got to look at themselves. What have we developed? All I saw in the | :25:28. | :25:33.
attacking game was we kicked for touch following notice of taking the | :25:34. | :25:37.
kicks at goal at times. Were they just scared of losing their jobs or | :25:38. | :25:44.
can they be coaches and develop these players? They have heard a lot | :25:45. | :25:52.
of voices over the last 12 months as well. Alex King came in during the | :25:53. | :26:01.
6-nations. Is there a fear perhaps that they are just hearing too many | :26:02. | :26:08.
contradictory voices? With the time they have had, Matt tried to adjust | :26:09. | :26:12.
things a fortnight before the autumn internationals. It is hard, with a | :26:13. | :26:19.
region, you have months to do it. That was such a short period of | :26:20. | :26:23.
time. Alex King came in for the 6-nations. You need a long period of | :26:24. | :26:29.
time and with the two voices coming in, I don't know any other nation | :26:30. | :26:33.
that would have two attack coaches coming in in the same season to try | :26:34. | :26:37.
and adapt things, which is what we are saying we need to do in our | :26:38. | :26:43.
game. We have got the summer tour. How much we will learn from, I don't | :26:44. | :26:46.
know, with the opposition we will have, with the youngsters going out | :26:47. | :26:51.
there. But another new voice there with Stephen Jones going out there. | :26:52. | :26:57.
A great experience in one sense but it is not the best long-term | :26:58. | :27:00.
strategy with the World Cup not that far away. Having missed an | :27:01. | :27:06.
opportunity to blood new talent? Shane Williams last week said Sam | :27:07. | :27:10.
Davies Hass to start those tests in the South Sea Islands. Definitely, | :27:11. | :27:17.
they have picked him and we have not seen him at all. He has to play on | :27:18. | :27:23.
the summer tour. Certainly with the other boys as well, we did not see | :27:24. | :27:28.
any of them. It does not seem to make any sense to pick them and not | :27:29. | :27:38.
give them a run at all. I am as frustrated as anyone. We are all | :27:39. | :27:41.
frustrated. We want to score lots of tries. The problem is if any of our | :27:42. | :27:48.
key boys get injured, who is going to slot in? We were very lucky with | :27:49. | :27:53.
Ross Moriarty coming into form. We have relied so heavily on Faletau. | :27:54. | :27:59.
We were just so lucky that he came into form bang at the time that | :28:00. | :28:03.
Faletau had his injuries. What happens with the rest? If there is | :28:04. | :28:11.
an injury, you are throwing in some one cold. In the meantime, when | :28:12. | :28:17.
things happen, we are a bit stuck. I would like to see us be a bit bolder | :28:18. | :28:23.
than to take those decisions and develop people. The Ospreys did it | :28:24. | :28:29.
last year and they had a poor season with the off -- World Cup going on | :28:30. | :28:33.
but all of a sudden, they are producing world-class players. That | :28:34. | :28:35.
is what we need to do right throughout the board. Now has got to | :28:36. | :28:38.
be the time to be bold. Now this next guy has had more | :28:39. | :28:40.
comebacks than Lazarus. He's just turned 40, | :28:41. | :28:42.
but he cannot let go. He's won 87 caps for Wales, | :28:43. | :28:45.
but is hungry for another appearance at the Principality Stadium, | :28:46. | :28:47.
this time in the colours Sean Holley went to see | :28:48. | :28:50.
if he could pull it off. The famous old university town of | :28:51. | :29:13.
Lampeter is the neutral venue. There is a rumour that someone famous is | :29:14. | :29:17.
putting on the boots for the club where it all began for him. Amman is | :29:18. | :29:25.
where it all started for me. It feels like a European cup final for | :29:26. | :29:29.
the lads, or a World Cup final. They have got to this position without | :29:30. | :29:33.
much of my help and they deserve to get to the final. If I get an | :29:34. | :29:38.
orderly, great, if I don't get on at all, disappointed but never mind. As | :29:39. | :29:47.
long as we win. For more -- formal player and can get in the team! He | :29:48. | :29:52.
has done well to get in the 23 today. The longest warm up I've ever | :29:53. | :30:03.
seen. That must have been 47 minutes. We are a bit more | :30:04. | :30:10.
professional with Amman and we want to get things right. Tackles going | :30:11. | :30:21.
in, everyone is up for this one. He is on after 18 minutes. Score 0-0. | :30:22. | :30:34.
He is narrowly but he is on, but your husband, his brother-in-law, it | :30:35. | :30:37.
would be good if they were all on. Good start, isn't it? Yes. You know | :30:38. | :30:47.
what people will say if we win. It's because of Shane Williams, but it | :30:48. | :30:59.
isn't, it is because we are Amman. We were just talking about your son, | :31:00. | :31:05.
he scored the first try. My baby. He is a big baby! | :31:06. | :31:22.
How long have you been following Amman is back --? Since I was a boy. | :31:23. | :31:37.
Will he ever give up? He is so full of energy. One of those games you | :31:38. | :31:49.
don't know what is going to happen and unfortunately Amman are playing | :31:50. | :31:55.
very well at the moment. After a shaky start, Shane Williams has got | :31:56. | :32:01.
to grips with the game. Who is he? LAUGHTER | :32:02. | :32:15.
What is the plan back at the club? A few celebrations and karaoke songs! | :32:16. | :32:39.
THEY SING. It was nothing to do with me, I just wanted to help. The | :32:40. | :32:45.
probably won't get this chance again for the final so it is great. I'd | :32:46. | :32:51.
love to be involved in any capacity. I would love to not play at all and | :32:52. | :32:57.
let the boys take the plaudits because they deserve it. | :32:58. | :33:06.
Congratulations to Shane and to Amman United. | :33:07. | :33:09.
They'll have their moment in the sun at the Principality | :33:10. | :33:11.
Let's find out who'll be joining them in the cup, | :33:12. | :33:16.
The first semifinal was a real thigh slap of a match in which the star | :33:17. | :33:29.
was that veteran warhorse Ceri Sweeney. His 37-year-old legs might | :33:30. | :33:35.
not be quite as brightly as in his prime but is in sinks remain sharp | :33:36. | :33:38.
as he showed with the first try of the game. | :33:39. | :33:49.
This score by when Joe Davis extended the lead. With ten minutes | :33:50. | :34:00.
left, keys mounted a comeback in which Lazarus would have been proud. | :34:01. | :34:03.
They scored three converted tries including this one, to bring | :34:04. | :34:08.
themselves back to within two points but it was left to the man Sweeney | :34:09. | :34:18.
to quell things with a late penalty. Also let drama in the other | :34:19. | :34:23.
semifinal. Last minute score by Jones sent RGC to their first ever | :34:24. | :34:31.
cup final. Celebrations sure how much that means to North Wales | :34:32. | :34:38.
rugby. In the plate, last year's runners-up made it through with a | :34:39. | :34:45.
narrow win. The supporters were dancing off the pitch. And | :34:46. | :34:52.
Caerphilly made it back to the big time in the bowl. Matthew Hurley's | :34:53. | :35:02.
15 points including this try proved the compelling factor for the | :35:03. | :35:09.
Cheeseman. Here is the line-up for finals day. THEY | :35:10. | :35:20.
RGC continue their historic season. The tightest game in the round was | :35:21. | :35:29.
won by a dramatic drop goal. Shane Williams making yet another | :35:30. | :35:44.
comeback. You made a bit of a comeback for the Cardiff Blues | :35:45. | :35:49.
recently. You don't fancy turning up for someone in the bowl? Possibly | :35:50. | :35:56.
not. If it was howling down with rain and wind I'm not sure Shane | :35:57. | :36:00.
Williams would have turned up! He was happy to play. I didn't see him | :36:01. | :36:09.
make a tackle. We will have to check the tapes. You were involved in one | :36:10. | :36:16.
of those dramatic gains yesterday. Pontypridd against Crosskeys. Three | :36:17. | :36:22.
tries and seven minutes. We were hanging on for the last five | :36:23. | :36:26.
minutes. Eight minutes to go and they were just two points behind. A | :36:27. | :36:31.
good few substitutions in the last 20 minutes who made an impact and | :36:32. | :36:39.
they caught us off guard. RGC in the final, first time they have been | :36:40. | :36:42.
there. They give you a little bit of something earlier in the season. | :36:43. | :36:47.
Revenge for you guys? I don't want to give them too many bullets before | :36:48. | :36:53.
we get there. They had a good side, they coach well, he is doing a great | :36:54. | :37:00.
job at there, some very good players brought in. I think it will be a | :37:01. | :37:11.
great finals day. April 16, put that one in your diaries. | :37:12. | :37:13.
And the day before it's the Pro12's regional showpiece. | :37:14. | :37:17.
Judgment Day is nearly here. Four regions, one in. One of the most | :37:18. | :37:29.
anticipated days in the calendar. Scrum V will be at the heart of it | :37:30. | :37:42.
all. But before the battle of wills, a battle of skills. Who came out on | :37:43. | :37:44.
top? All will be revealed soon. Judgment Day five on the way the day | :37:45. | :38:05.
before finals day at the principality stadium. A feast of | :38:06. | :38:19.
regional rugby to look forward to. 40,000 tickets sold already. They | :38:20. | :38:22.
are hoping for a sell-out for the first time. I guess that is the | :38:23. | :38:27.
closest thing you will get to international without it being | :38:28. | :38:32.
international. It has grown. There were sceptics to start with. They | :38:33. | :38:38.
wondered why we were taking their when they could have a full house at | :38:39. | :38:42.
the home ground. The faith of letting it go and market it how they | :38:43. | :38:48.
have done, it has been fantastic the last two, and everyone there has | :38:49. | :38:52.
enjoyed it. People are staying put the whole day not just to their | :38:53. | :38:57.
team. The final say the next day, it makes a good weekend in Cardiff. We | :38:58. | :39:05.
said every year but in the absence of trial matches, it is kind of | :39:06. | :39:09.
trials much when you have a Lions tour and Wales tour at the end of | :39:10. | :39:15.
it. Hopefully all the stars will be out, the main guys, and sometimes it | :39:16. | :39:22.
lacks players but it is great to have it at the stadium. I know in | :39:23. | :39:25.
England and they pushed the London double-header at the season. It is | :39:26. | :39:29.
good to have the focus and marketing to bring awareness up. Hopefully we | :39:30. | :39:37.
get people along to buy into it. Some people suggested that the | :39:38. | :39:41.
rivalries have softened since rugby has gone regional. They probably | :39:42. | :39:47.
haven't played in any! First and they're still very tasty, a lot of | :39:48. | :39:50.
players going for positions at international level and it is a good | :39:51. | :39:55.
chance to get one up on your opposing number. I have been to the | :39:56. | :40:00.
last couple and it is a really good day of rugby and everyone seems to | :40:01. | :40:08.
enjoy it. Why not get tickets to both occasions? | :40:09. | :40:09.
That to come, but let's return to this weekend. | :40:10. | :40:12.
And on Friday, the Scarlets were hoping to stay in the hunt | :40:13. | :40:15.
for the playoffs when they welcomed Edinburgh to Parc y Scarlets. | :40:16. | :40:26.
Lovely pass to patch and he is clean through. Rees patch all! On the way. | :40:27. | :40:40.
What a return for Patchell. He can go back and say a massive thank you | :40:41. | :40:46.
to that pass. Great turn of pace. That is what this guy can do. Hence | :40:47. | :40:49.
his ears back and he is gone. Good driving. They want to replicate | :40:50. | :41:10.
it. Samson Lee. Keeping it going. Didn't lose their shape at all. | :41:11. | :41:15.
Within striking distance now. There is the try line and there is the | :41:16. | :41:24.
try. It is Wayne Jones who has got it. Gets to ground. Lovely inside | :41:25. | :41:40.
Boulter Liam Williams from Parkes. Parkes, lovely pop-up, and James | :41:41. | :41:44.
Davis is straight through for a try number three. A lovely pass by the | :41:45. | :41:53.
Scarlets skipper and James Davies. Watch this pass. | :41:54. | :42:07.
Lovely pass, easy run-in for Burleigh. Simple ball and Edinburgh | :42:08. | :42:28.
get a free gift. There we are. La trajectory. Aled Davies with a | :42:29. | :42:41.
little chip over the top. Tom Brown comes into Stewart. Parkes floats it | :42:42. | :42:50.
out to Patchell. The Scarlets have done the job within 30 minutes. That | :42:51. | :42:58.
is the bonus point safe. Just watch. Jonathan Davies cousin, turnover, | :42:59. | :43:11.
easy run-in, good choice of pass. The first-half went pretty well, | :43:12. | :43:15.
accuracy more than anything. Second half we would be disappointed | :43:16. | :43:18.
looking at the video back because we didn't get much of what we wanted | :43:19. | :43:20.
out there in the second half. What an intriguing game of rugby. It | :43:21. | :43:32.
was the ultimate game of one half. I missed little bits of the first-half | :43:33. | :43:35.
when it was brilliant and the second half I really started watching it | :43:36. | :43:39.
and nothing much happened. A lot of the test players came off in the | :43:40. | :43:42.
second half and it seemed to take the steam away. They had already got | :43:43. | :43:48.
the bonus point so hiding to nothing as such but it was a shame because | :43:49. | :43:52.
you wanted to finish a game as you started but they got what they | :43:53. | :44:01.
wanted. With the Ospreys win away, banana skin, that is up -- a | :44:02. | :44:14.
potential banana skin as well. I spoke before the game about the | :44:15. | :44:17.
elevation of the Rees Patchell. Whether it was a gamble. But no | :44:18. | :44:25.
fear. Dan Jones has been playing really well and he is the guy to | :44:26. | :44:31.
take them through to the end of the season. I'm sure Patchell would | :44:32. | :44:38.
appreciate that. Hadley parks has been huge for them. Here's a carrier | :44:39. | :44:43.
but he has the ability to put other people into space. Patchell has been | :44:44. | :44:48.
working on his speed while he has been off. Hadley Parkes getting | :44:49. | :44:54.
another touch. Those two working really well and it would be | :44:55. | :44:58.
interesting to see where they go. Scott Wilson didn't play last night. | :44:59. | :45:03.
I think Parkes is crucial to how they operate. He has won McCallum | :45:04. | :45:10.
was man of the matches. One swallow does not make a summer in terms of | :45:11. | :45:13.
Patchell but we talked about Sam Davies starting for Wales in summer | :45:14. | :45:17.
but of Pajot continues that form is making a case. | :45:18. | :45:22.
He certainly has the potential. He has been unlucky over the last | :45:23. | :45:27.
couple of months. If he can put a run together of games, he will be | :45:28. | :45:36.
absolutely ecstatic with that. If he can put four or five games together, | :45:37. | :45:41.
he could go on that summer tour. It is whether you can play at 12. It | :45:42. | :45:45.
worked really well when he was at the Cardiff Blues. He is a powerful | :45:46. | :45:55.
guy. And I think with that kind of time and space, he could be really | :45:56. | :46:00.
good. This would be the time if you want to try and look at someone. The | :46:01. | :46:07.
Scarlets have plenty of centres but it could be an option for Wales. It | :46:08. | :46:11.
worked with Owen Farrell for England. | :46:12. | :46:12.
So onto the Blues, and they had the toughest | :46:13. | :46:14.
An away trip to league leaders Leinster. | :46:15. | :46:34.
Through the hands, into midfield. Josh Navidi stands up. A little | :46:35. | :46:45.
nudge through. Can Morgan get there? The bounce is favourable. But is a | :46:46. | :46:49.
great effort and it is the blindside, Dan Leavy. Not much space | :46:50. | :46:58.
to work with. They do exceptionally well. Good little inside ball to Rey | :46:59. | :47:03.
Lee-Lo. Has he got support? What a try this will be. It is the | :47:04. | :47:15.
scrum-half, Tomos Williams. Wide ball. Steps inside. Taken down | :47:16. | :47:20.
within five metres of the line. A little offload. Bent is over? | :47:21. | :47:28.
Referee can on the spot. Held up short. A little dart from scrum-half | :47:29. | :47:33.
Luke Brough -- Luke McGrath. They will go upstairs to the TMO. But for | :47:34. | :47:47.
me, that is a classic poaching scrum-half try. Good work by Gareth | :47:48. | :47:55.
Anscombe. Does exceptionally well. A good turn of pace from Kristian | :47:56. | :48:04.
Dacey. Great build-up, good work down that side and the scrum-half is | :48:05. | :48:09.
rewarded with his second try. The crowd suddenly getting behind the | :48:10. | :48:16.
home side. How did that ball come out the back door? The referee is | :48:17. | :48:20.
happy with that. An opportunity now. Rey Lee-Lo. Can he get rid of it? | :48:21. | :48:28.
Yes he can. This is an opportunity. He has only been on a few minutes | :48:29. | :48:34.
and he's going to go over for the try. Now, they go, hands on the ball | :48:35. | :48:47.
for Tracey with Ruddock. Now they go towards the line. Just a metre | :48:48. | :48:50.
short. They are over. The assistant referee right on the spot. I think | :48:51. | :48:58.
that is down. The try has been given. Josh Navidi straightening | :48:59. | :49:10.
things up. Has the opportunity to put him away. Good work. Tom James, | :49:11. | :49:17.
inside ball. Anybody to take it. Not able to do so. Ellis Jenkins is | :49:18. | :49:24.
there. Four metres short. Lloyd Williams fires the ball out. Morgan | :49:25. | :49:28.
looking to nudge it through. Has that gone forward? It comes down to | :49:29. | :49:35.
a little forward pass from Matthew Morgan. Trying to find Rey Lee-Lo. | :49:36. | :49:46.
Leinster are top of the table. Munster are into second, overtaking | :49:47. | :49:55.
the Ospreys. Ulster are the ones in the fourth play-off spot. The | :49:56. | :49:59.
Scarlets are three points behind them and they probably have the | :50:00. | :50:02.
slightly eighth easier run-in. The Cardiff Blues are still in | :50:03. | :50:06.
contention for a European play-off spot. That is one of the toughest | :50:07. | :50:18.
places to go, the showground and to come away with a bonus point, a | :50:19. | :50:22.
losing one, that is testament to how they paid out there. They were in a | :50:23. | :50:27.
position to win it and had opportunities to win it. Plenty to | :50:28. | :50:30.
praise in that performance yesterday. Not least their | :50:31. | :50:33.
willingness to counterattack from virtually anywhere. It is nice to | :50:34. | :50:38.
see. Not a lot of teams go there with confidence. Gareth Anscombe | :50:39. | :50:46.
very good, someone just spark the generator app and off he goes. | :50:47. | :50:51.
Flying down the wing. Rate pace by Kristian Dacey. Leinster are used to | :50:52. | :50:59.
having their own way out there. A bobbling ball and they are making | :51:00. | :51:02.
the most of some of these opportunities. Again, from deep and | :51:03. | :51:07.
off they go. Getting it through the hands. They are playing with | :51:08. | :51:12.
confidence. In a ground where the Leinster defence has been absolutely | :51:13. | :51:14.
unreal. I don't think anybody has had a bonus point all year. It was | :51:15. | :51:19.
little bits like that away from home at cost to the game. They still had | :51:20. | :51:32.
a chance. Alex Cuthbert, some big moments from him. I would love to | :51:33. | :51:36.
see him back with confidence. He takes so much stick. That is a | :51:37. | :51:41.
fantastic bit of skill. Nicky Robinson is the generator for him | :51:42. | :51:49.
doing that. That is the one and only kick. You are the man to talk about | :51:50. | :51:57.
this as well. We are hearing that Thomas Francis could be on the verge | :51:58. | :52:01.
of signing a national dual contract that will place him at the Cardiff | :52:02. | :52:05.
Blues. Apparently there is discussion about buying him out the | :52:06. | :52:11.
final year of his Exeter contract. Judging from how badly the scrum | :52:12. | :52:15.
creaked yesterday, they don't need a tighter Alleni Mor. Yes, get as many | :52:16. | :52:25.
as we can back playing in Wales. In a tight game away from home, you | :52:26. | :52:29.
need to be punching your weight on the front foot and they did | :52:30. | :52:31.
extremely well considering they were creaking all day. Getting James time | :52:32. | :52:37.
every week and it can only be a good thing for Welsh rugby and for him. | :52:38. | :52:41.
He will be in the goldfish bowl and the selectors will be watching. | :52:42. | :52:47.
Thomas Francis might be on his way and Gethin Jenkins made a | :52:48. | :52:50.
long-awaited return of the bench. From what I have been told, the | :52:51. | :52:56.
Lions have been monitoring his fitness. That is not surprising | :52:57. | :53:02.
really. It was disappointing with the bicep injury. He started the | :53:03. | :53:08.
season well for the Cardiff Blues. He has been really missed. His | :53:09. | :53:18.
presence on and off the pitch. He can offer a huge amount of | :53:19. | :53:22.
experience on Lions tours. And the way he is around the park. That is | :53:23. | :53:27.
what is needed out in New Zealand. The engine he has got. It is not | :53:28. | :53:31.
surprising. I am sure he is hoping to get a bit more rugby under his | :53:32. | :53:36.
belt. A big game against Gloucester on the weekend. And then see where | :53:37. | :53:47.
he is at the end of the season. He is a world-class player and I think | :53:48. | :53:52.
he just needs a run of games to get himself back to fitness and he will | :53:53. | :54:00.
certainly be in the squad. Alun Wyn Jones is out for six weeks. | :54:01. | :54:07.
Devastating for the Ospreys. But potentially good news for the liars | :54:08. | :54:11.
because it means he will have a chance to rest and recuperate a bit. | :54:12. | :54:18.
You have two force him to rest. He will play every minute of every game | :54:19. | :54:23.
if he can. So, yes, six weeks, freshen him right up and then you | :54:24. | :54:26.
will see an animal out there. Good man. | :54:27. | :54:28.
Now then, three years ago, Caris Bowen was diagnosed | :54:29. | :54:31.
with Hodgkins Lymphona and had to undergo intensive treatment. | :54:32. | :54:33.
Three years on, she's in remission, and has found a new lease of life | :54:34. | :54:36.
Red and yellow cards. I was 21 diagnosed. Back in 2013. I had no | :54:37. | :55:04.
idea what it was. My mother asked the question, what is the treatment | :55:05. | :55:09.
and the doctor replied, a heavy course of chemotherapy. That took me | :55:10. | :55:13.
back. I thought, chemotherapy, that means it's cancer. But knowing what | :55:14. | :55:18.
it was and then being able to do with it from them was better than | :55:19. | :55:22.
not knowing what was wrong because I was quite ill for a while before do | :55:23. | :55:26.
being diagnosed. At least then we knew then what it was and this is | :55:27. | :55:29.
what is good to happen and this is what we are going to do. I had to | :55:30. | :55:34.
fight and be strong and even on my lowest days to justify dancing, I | :55:35. | :55:38.
have to be here for my children. I love my mother so far -- so much | :55:39. | :55:43.
because she is very brave and independent and she puts us first | :55:44. | :55:47.
before anything. I think she is so great because she beat cancer and I | :55:48. | :55:54.
am really happy that she beat it. Hated sport. Did not like anything | :55:55. | :55:59.
to do with it. Very rarely wore trainers. During my treatment, on | :56:00. | :56:05.
the very hardest days, I felt very unwell. I would fight that. So I | :56:06. | :56:10.
would put my gym gear on and we would be going out for a walk. It | :56:11. | :56:14.
was those very hard days I felt like I wanted to fight the most. Since | :56:15. | :56:19.
being keyword, I wanted to remind myself of my strength on a daily | :56:20. | :56:25.
basis and what I am capable of, now I have my full health. I am healthy | :56:26. | :56:30.
and happy and I can do it now. So I want to do it. My nickname with | :56:31. | :56:34.
friends and family actually is Sergeant Major. You are in charge of | :56:35. | :56:39.
something and it is important to be further and strict but to make it | :56:40. | :56:45.
enjoyable. I have a way to be stern but again to gain respect at the | :56:46. | :56:51.
same time. Today's game is my second game on my own. I am not going to | :56:52. | :56:55.
pretend that I am the best or I know everything for a start because that | :56:56. | :56:59.
is far from the truth. It is just growing and learning as you go by | :57:00. | :57:03.
with the games. The assessor works with you closely to make sure you | :57:04. | :57:07.
know what you are doing. Forward pass. Forward, boys, OK? Sorry. Are | :57:08. | :57:24.
you OK? Everything happens for a reason. And I tell everybody I need, | :57:25. | :57:33.
if I have two cards, red, yellow cards, have the illness, or carry on | :57:34. | :57:37.
the way I was, I would run for that card to have had it all day because | :57:38. | :57:43.
it has made me a stronger person, motivated, what really matters in | :57:44. | :57:49.
life now is my health, my children and just to get as many people into | :57:50. | :57:53.
sport and into positive experiences and just a better outlook on life | :57:54. | :57:59.
altogether really. I should have warned you, that was a | :58:00. | :58:03.
bit of a tear-jerker. What a fantastic and uplifting story. That | :58:04. | :58:08.
is it for this week. My thanks to everyone. And as it is Mother's Day, | :58:09. | :58:14.
we thought we had better end with a special and personalised Mother's | :58:15. | :58:18.
Day message. This one is for you, Caris, from your two boys. My mother | :58:19. | :58:27.
gave me a yellow card which means I have to go to my bedroom. My mother | :58:28. | :58:32.
gave me a red card and I had to go to the shed. I love my mother | :58:33. | :58:38.
because she is very independent, brave, she puts us first before | :58:39. | :58:42.
anything. I love my mother because she really cares about me and she | :58:43. | :58:48.
buys the nice things. Happy Mother's Day. | :58:49. | :58:53. |
