Good evening. It can be a pretty tense place here in the practice

room as the players prepare to head into the bright lights of the arena

here at the Newport Centre. This year we have a bright new format.

here at the Newport Centre. This With matches already moving into the

second round. Here are the headlines from the day so far. Defending

Champion, Stephen Maguire squeezed into round three with a 4-3 ribth

victory over Sam Baird. The Scott came back from 3-1 down to keep the

defence of his title alive. Too close for comfort. I think Sam lost

it more than what I won it there. He was 3-1 up. To be honest, he had the

balls perfect when he was 40, 48 up, I think he was. He missed a bad pink

in the middle. That changed the whole game really. Matthew Stevens

progressed with a 4-2 victory over Ian Burns. He will now play Joe

Perry in the last 32. It was fantastic. It was a shame I haven't

really produced my best snooker here over the years. I will keep trying.

Hopefully, I can kick on this week and get to the latter stages. Also

through fellow W manman Dominic Dale he came through an entertain clash

with Dechawat Poomjaeng with a 4-1 victory this morning. Darren Morgan

has been watching it all. This is a busy tournament, four tables out in

the arena how has that changed the feel of the tournament? When you

turn professional you know your dream is to get to a major venue. A

lot of players out there who have been pros for many years who haven't

got to a venue. To bring 128 players if you are on the Tour you will get

at the venue. It can only be a good thing for the new pros who have

never experienced that. One of the things the crowd love is seeing

Welsh moving through the rounds. On that front it has been a good day.

Let hes hope you haven't given us the evil eye, three played, three

went through. Best start for a up could of years. A close run thing

for the defending Champion, Stephen Maguire. He will be a relieved young

man. He was far from his best. He was suffering a little bit with his

back and everything. He played really well at theent to pinch the

match really. We will talk later. If you are watching our coverage

earlier I would have seen the start of the match between Mark Selby the

2008 Champion and Dave Harold, ranked 53 in the world. There was a

slow start to the match. Selby went into a 2-1 lead. We will pick it up

in frame four. Howard is at the table and building a decent break.

COMMENTATOR: He probably is going to need the yellow in addition to win

the frame at this visit. If he pots a brown and a blue from the last

remaining red. That will put him 27 points ahead with 27 remaining. Not

quite all done and dusted yet in this fourth frame.

He has looked at the score board to realise a pink off the last red.

The yellow is not in an easy position. He played that the best.

At least he can get onto the pink from here.

He would have liked to have been a bit straighter than this.

That's win one of the reasons why I thought he might take the pink off

the red rather than the blue. Can he see any side of this yellow?

Not without any side. He can't avoid the kiss on the black. If he sees as

much as he can hit he will cannon into the black with the cue ball. He

might try and swerve it a little bit.

Somehow he's got to miss the kiss on the black.

Unlike David to play such a careless safety shot. You can forgive him for

not getting the good cue ball, object ball, shouldn't have been

anywhere near that corner pocket. It has given Mark a chance to pot

these six colours and force a respot.

If you had to pick one or two players to clear up under a pressure

situation, Mark Selby would certainly be in that two.

He does it time and time again. He is going to have pot another black

after this one, because it's going to be a respot.

Excellent clearance of the colours so far, but it's still not over yet.

Mark Selby, makes that break to tie the scores at 59-all.

Mark Selby won the toss and put Dave into bat. Different players play

different shots. Dave has pushed it there and played

it pretty well. Yesterday evening I was practicing

respotted blacks with Dave in the practice room. Little best of nine.

I wonder if it will stand him in good stead. Did he win the best of

nine or lose He hammered me! He was an absolute bandit, Willie,

honestly. It might stand him in good stead then.

One of those where Mark might decide to play cushion first and leave the

white where the black is. The angle of the black will hit the cushion

before the middle pocket. If he gets the weight right he should get the

black safe. That is what he is looking at. If you get too much side

on it, and you come into the right of the black, sometimes you can go

in-off if you catch too much off the black.

Perfect to play that shot. As long as you got the weight right, you're

bound to get a good black. This is just about the worse

position to play safe from. You could play this ten times and leave

it on ten times. Unless you get the black tight on the cushion, you are

bound to leave some sort of shot. Yeah, I think here Willie he has to

put his trust in the table and play the black to the side cushion, if he

can. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

Well done. Well done. For a second I thought he did it a

fraction too hard. Does this cut? I didn't think so, at first glance.

He is looking to see if he can cross double it. He could play a thin

safety and leave the cue ball towards the far left corner. He has

just used the pocket and put the black on the bolt cushion. That

black needs to stop. Oh, this is cuttable. This is a chance for Mark.

Takes a little bit of pressure off the shot knowing that Mark is bound

to get a good white. What a frame of snooker Dave Harold

will be horrified he lost that game. Mark Selby, just one away from

victory now. He leads 3-1. 3-1 lead turned into a 4-1 victory

for Mark Selby. He is now through to the last 32, beating Dave Harold

4-1. Dominic Dale hot footed it it from the commentary box. You have

Mark Selby in the next round? I know. I don't know when I'm playing

him on Wednesday.le it will be a match I will look forward. To a

great player and a great friend. I have had good matches with him in

the past. I have beaten him on a couple of occasions. I will try to

do so on Wednesday. How do you feel he looked? Dave had a couple of

opportunities. He lost the first frame. If he won that he would have

kept pressure on Mark Selby. That is what you have to do with the top

players in any sport is put pressure on them. He should have got the

match back to 2-2. When he went 3-1 down I couldn't see anyway back for

him then. Some players do have an ability to get fans on the edge of

their seats. One player who fall noose that category is Judd Trump.

-- falls into that category is Judd Trump.

Judd Trump definitely one of the most exciting part is you will see.

The 24-year-old who grew up in Bristol is now ranked number four in

the world. He had a fantastic junior career, the youngest player to make

a 147 when he was just 14 years old. 2011 was his best year, winning

the UK championship and reaching the World Championship final. Tonight he

is playing Jamie Burnett from Scotland. This one is already

looking exciting. We are only in the first frame and things are finely

balanced. Let's go over and join our commentators, Darren Morgan and

Terry Griffiths. The red will just go past the black.

That is the second fluke. He flew a read earlier in the frame when he

played a safety shot. There is plenty of room for it to go

in without touching the black but he will take that one.

A very important fluke this one. It looks like he is clinching the first

frame. He has just overrun that slightly. Looking to go in and out

of Borg now to play the pink. He has left that pink little bit

trickier than he would have liked at this stage. All he needs is the

pink. The winning ball is always miserable

but it was the blue that was the problem. He played bad position from

brown to blue and could not hold the cue ball for an easier shot on the

pink. A tremendous pop. You can't give

this boy any thing from distance. He is deadly. The two flukes from Jamie

Burnett did not get him that first frame. It is Judd Trump who is 1-0

in front. It should be a terrific match if the

first frame is anything to go by. What did you make of that? Jamie

Burnett had a great chance to clear up and win that. The brown to the

blue was not the best shot. He left himself a shot to nothing on the

pink which he played rather cautiously, I felt. He did not play

with enough conviction for me. As Terry said, you can't leave Judd

Trump anything and he potted a tremendous pink. That should give

him a lot of confidence. Jamie has got to put pressure on Judd Trump.

You have got to put pressure on the top players in any sport. And we

have got to former world champions out there at the moment. It is

Higgins against Doherty, two great heroes of the game. How do you see

that when going? John has not had the best couple of seasons. He has

changed use a number of times and he is yet to gain the confidence we are

familiar with. He is a prolific tournament winner and Ken needs to

stick with John if he can. But too fast the experienced players. Back

at our feature match this evening, Judd Trump a very exciting player

but what sort of form has he come into this tournament with? He has

not done as well of late. He has lost a bit of confidence. He needs

to get to the later stages of a few tournaments and he will be back to

his best. But he has got a lot more with them now. He looks at the game

in a different way than he used to three or four years ago. He has

become a more rounded individual and that is going to stand him in good

stead for the future. And Jamie Burnett, not one of the big names in

the score -- sport but a very good professional. What are his chances?

At his best, he is a more than capable competitor. He has got a lot

of experience capable competitor. He has got a lot

the television a lot of times. He knows what he needs to do against

the television a lot of times. He Judd Trump and had he won that first

frame, it would have given Judd Trump something to think about. But

Trump is the kind of person who can run away with a victory. That is the

danger here for Jamie Burnett. Jamie Burnett has had a little break after

that first frame but he has just returned to the arena and his job is

to get back in this match after losing the first frame. It is a best

of seven, first to four frames is the winner.

The start of the second frame and Jamie Burnett breaking off. Maybe a

little bit disappointed with the way that first frame went. It looked

like he was going to snatch it away from Judd Trump. Judd Trump made a

good 40 at the start. He looks like he might have got away

with that one. A big frame for Jamie Burnett, this.

What a terrific shot that was. He played that with loads of bottom

right-hand side. He swerved that cue ball. If he had courted a little bit

thick, he would have rattled the jaws. -- caught it.

The first frame was all what really, there was very little safety

played. As Ray Reardon used to say, if you

can't see them, you can't put them. A great tactical player, Ray

Reardon. Six time champion of the world and a good break-builder. He

had it all. That is what you have got to have to win it six times.

Last time he was here it was his 80th birthday. He looked really

well. I have not seen him for a while. It was nice to see him again.

A terrific character within the game.

Another good safety shot. He did not play there. But he hit the red as

intended, hoping to Mr brown. -- hoping to hit the Brian -- brown.

That is a better safety. A gap between green and brown so we should

be OK to get down and back up again. Judd Trump has improved his safety

over the last couple of years. He is a great potter and break-builder,

that is his strength, but he has worked on his safety and it is a lot

better. He is not leaving people the easy chances he used to, unless he

misses a pot. His safety has improved immensely.

A little and shares look by Jamie. He almost potted the cue ball in the

corner pocket. He might be able to play this red below the pink as a

shot to nothing. Which he has achieved.

With a thin slick on the green, he would have been nicely on this

brown. What a great pot this was. If he had hit that a little bit thin,

he would have clattered that read on the cushion.

I don't think he is on anything nice. He is on this red to the left

corner. He did not hang about. He has got a great touch, whatever you

think. In the safety Department, maybe a little bit rough around the

edges. But what a potter, what a talent.

He has got his magic potting shoes on as well. They are very famous. I

have seen those in the Army and Navy stores in Llanelli. Two pairs for

the price of one. Every time Judd Trump gets a chance

early in the frame, his mind is on winning that frame on that visit.

That is his philosophy and it has worked very well for him.

He is still learning in his career, still very young. He has won the UK

championship. He has not won the Masters. He came close to winning

the World Championship but I am sure we will see him windows to

tournaments at some point during his career. -- winning those two.

Nicely played shot. A lot harder to play, than what he made that look.

Jamie Burnett now is in all kinds of trouble.

Just having a look to see which red he can leave the least on from. It's

looking like, I think, at least three to four cushions, if he wants

to get to any of these back reds, near the blackspot.

If he wants to get on those he has to go off the right cushion, as we

look at it, to get to the safe side. I'm not quite sure if he thinks he

can get there. No bgsz -- no, a good attempt. A

little unlucky there. Tricky red around the cushion for Judd Trump to

get started. When he's playing good you fancy any pot he takes on.

Looking very confident in this match, so far.

I remember seeing him a couple of years ago here, Darren, the first

tournament he had qualified for, television stage. I always remember

it, he was playing at 7.00pm I saw him coming down the back of the

building there at 12.00pm, in the afternoon, I thought, why is he

coming here that early for? He just wanted to get here. I think that's

the way the game has gone these days with the youngsters. I mean, that is

one of the reasons, if I'm being honest, I finished. I'm sat in my

chair thinking - what am I doing here, you are watching your opponent

like a caged tiger. Couldn't get out of his cage quick enough. It's

totally changed now, the game. It's totally changed now, the game. It's

got younger, more appetising from... It seems to have gone positive as

well to the way they play. They can't wait to get to play a match.

You are thinking - I hope I pot a few today. Nice to see it, all the

same. Plenty of opportunities for the young players in in the game

now, so many tournaments. No, he is staying in his chair. Judd

Trump 2-0 in front. Judd Trump looking supremely confident at the

moment. Yeah. This is what I feared. Jamie didn't win that first frame.

He probably feels he should have done and Judd Trump is 2-0 up. He

won that frame convincingly. Jamie is on the ropes 2-0 down. He has to

win this next game. What is the way to put Judd Trump off his stride,

put pressure on him so he can't relax and play shots? The nature of

Judd Trump's style of play dictates you will get chances. You have to

take them. You have to play good safety. Make it difficult for him.

If you don't, he will pot you off the table, like Ronnie does, like so

many of the great players. What would you loo look to do now -- look

to do now in fraem three? He has to play well and not make unforced

errors. Judd Trump has two of the four frames he needs. Let's join

them now. COMMENTATOR: Jamie Burnett is

running out of time. Never really going to leave a lot on

from that shot, other than the red he was playing. I mean, having said

that, this red is a thin slick into the corner. The reds will go

everywhere off it. You would have to say that was a bit of a lunatic

shot. As we just said. This is the way he plays. This is why he's

exciting. That was never the shot. He obviously fancied it! I mean, if

it had gone in we would have said, what a great shot that was, opened

the reds out. It's one of the good things about

the game. Everybody's got their own shot selection. You know, some

people would push the boat out a bit more than others. One of the

beauties of the game. You stand and fall by what you decide.

Jamie Burnett has the chance now. Very thin cut he took on there.

You feel he has to do something here, or Trump will be all over him

like a rash. He missed that pink to win the first frame, Jamie Burnett,

since then he hasn't had much opportunity.

He's lost the cue ball there. He will be very disappointed with that

last shot. He will cannon into a couple of these reds.

Which he has done. He's still in a nice position. So, his break marches

on. This is really imperative for Jamie Burnett, to try and make this

effort. Send a message, if you are going to play shots like that

against me, you don't get them, I'm going to take my chance.

What is he thinking? He look as if he doesn't care to me. He always

looks like that, doesn't he? Doesn't show anything.

Could be called peace of mind. Other people would call it arrogant.

Having said that, you have to have a little bit of arrogance out there.

Self belief. Nice easy shot, red, pink, red,

pink, without putting too much pressure on himself.

One thing for sure, when you are playing against the top players,

you're aware when the balls are set like this, if you don't make them,

they will get up and win the frame from their first chance.

There's the shot then that left Jamie Burnett this chance he's on

now. Certainly moved a few reds. As a matter-of-fact, he moved all of

them! Yes. Like you said, he took total

control on this match. He handed a life line back to Jamie Burnett. If

it had gone in, it would have looked fantastic, but it was crazy, crazy

shot. Now, he's sat in his chair. He's got

to wait. Almost getting to that stage now

where you think, I had better make sure of this. Vital not to do that

really, but it's in our nature to do it.

A few good potional shots now and he will be home and dry in this frame.

Keep that cue ball under control, take the pressure off him.

So the black goes in. Two snookers required now. If Judd Trump was to

get back to the table. Even if he was to miss now, Judd

Trump will stay sat in his chair. This has been a good effort from

Jamie Burnett. The match was totally getting away from him. He wouldn't

have expected the chance that he was given, given at the start of this

frame. But, nevertheless, he's took it. So no century. Terrific break of

80. Down to that crazy shot, you would have to say, with the red into

the left corner. Jamie Burnett, not too bothered. He now cuts his

deficit to 2-1. Fair play to Jamie Burnett, taking his chance when it

came. Let me update you on what is happening on the other tables at the

Newport Centre. The match between John Higgins and Ken Doherty is

going Higgins way at the moment. Michael White is playing Xiao

Guodong, at the moment they are 1-1. Dominic, back to the match we are

watching, Judd Trump against Jamie Burnett.

He lives or dies by the sword and he had to make this red. Jamie, even

though he was 2-0 down, he would have fancied his chances of making a

frame-winning break. He is right back in the match now and it is a

big frame, the next one. Jamie Burnett will feel very differently

to the way he did when frame earlier. It will be interesting to

see if that has dented his confidence. It is a short sprint,

first four frames. Can he keep taking captivated risks like that?

He realised that if he missed that, it could be curtains. He knew the

importance of that shot. But that is the excitement of watching Judd

Trump play. I might have a different shot selection to him but I find him

an exciting player to watch. He certainly is that, he is exciting

to watch. I am not sure I would like to play him too much.

That makes it a little bit more difficult. But I still expect Judd

Trump to knock this in. He caught that red a little bit too

full. That is why the cue ball stayed close to the side cushion.

That restricts his options now. Even Trump surely won't pump this around

the table. He may as well just roller to the

brown. He is looking at it. I don't see any value in potting the

blue really. Always a chance he could force another opening from

this snooker. He would have loved to have got in

behind this brown. He needed to have caught that red a little bit

thicker. Is he looking at the plant? Has he spotted something? If it is a

plant and heaters go for it, we could have a similar situation to

what we had in the last game. It does not look like it is on. But I

think the reds will be going everywhere.

They don't come much better than that. Trump having a bit of his own

medicine here. The reds have certainly split well. The Black has

come into play. He took a long time over that but he

has played it superbly well. He had to find that gap between those two

reds to get onto the black. It was worth the wait, as they say, for

that one. This match has seemed more like a

practice game at home. One pot after another, one break after another. It

all seems very easy. Yes, Terry, and Judd Trump will have

been thinking when he was going for that red, if it does not go in, I am

probably not going to lose the frame from it. All of a sudden, that one

shot has changed this match completely. All of a sudden, Jamie

Bernadette is looking very, very strong.

I think he just goes for them and then takes his medicine if he does

not get them. He had a look at that planned earlier on when he had a

blue into the centre. He turned it down and played snooker behind the

yellow. That was available for Trump. Jamie Burnett got it.

Very good stuff this is. Very good control of the cue ball. He has not

left himself any shots that are too difficult.

He did not quite catch that one as well as he would have liked. He is

straight on this pink and the cue ball is going away from the reds.

He was always going to kiss the red, he knew that, but he was hoping to

cannonade of the cushion and leave the red into the corner. He did not

expect the inn off. The break finishes unexpectedly on 44.

I have got to be honest, how did he screw that back? Look at that. He

played to get on the green and he got too much backspin on that. That

is incredible. A lot to do here. His target will be

the red behind the black. I think he played for that red but

he made a bit of a mess of it. If he can get through to the potting

angle, he has given him a chance. If he can get through to this red,

he might even elect to played to move the red of the side cushion. He

has hit the top of the ball so I would say no. He is just going to

take as many balls as he can before he looks at developing that red.

He always plays the positive shot. He lost his position a little bit

there. Well! You can say he is a little unlucky there but he plays a

lot of those type of shots, cannon Inc balls of the cushion so you are

not always going to have a good run of the ball. He has got blue or

yellow if he wants to take the pot on but they are both very difficult.

He has played it in such a way, dead weight, that he is going to cover

the pocket. He will be disappointed with that effort, Judd Trump. Does

this red go past the blue? It looks like it.

He is not sure about it. It must be very tight.

If it was straightforward, he would be down there by now.

This match very finely balanced now. We are just coming to the end of our
