Day 5 Snooker: World Championship Highlights

Snooker Championship. Ding chewing is out of the top 16 per is here in

Sheffield looking to land the big one.

The pressure the boy is under from China is immense. It shows what he's

capable of. Very good score, off the table. At the start, his English

held him back, but he's really starting to enjoy himself now and

show his character. He is probably the next best thing to Ronnie

win it more than him. He's such a nice kids. I don't want anyone to

win anything but as is player and person, I won him to win it. And

Ding Junhui is up against this man, Martin Gould, who is having a pretty

decent season having won his first ranking title this year, the 2016

German Masters. Also a finalist in the Australian open in 2015. When it

comes to the Crucible, he reached the last 16 in 2010-11 and lit up

the Arena earlier this morning when 5-3 down, rattling in one of the

greatest century breaks we have ever seen here.

Another cracking plot. This will be one of the best centuries we have

seen for a long time. It never looked on. He will need the awkward

pink. How come and hang on, hang on! Yes!

Wonderful entertainment from Martin Gould. That was something else,

wasn't it? Who says Snooker was boring? So we will pick up with

Martin Gould, leading by 7-6, Ding Junhui to play, and he is trailing.

You would have to be very precise to finish there. He would like to take

that red away from the black, put it into one of the two corner pockets.

He has tried to get onto that red. He always had the other one

available as a little bit of insurance and it looks as if he has

judged this to perfection, little screw shot to put the black into the

pocket. Now a chance. Time to go to work the Ding Junhui here.

Just about OK but that is not what he was intending there. A fuller

contact on that red rather than the left side.

Just made it a little awkward for himself, the fact he is coming up a

little bit short for the two reds. He intended to be short so it's a

change of plan. And that looks pretty good. He can roll the pinky

often, when a player needs three Snookers, and after one shot, he is

power to get up there, right hand side.

This could be a big let off. He has put himself under unnecessary

pressure now in this frame. Well, that's what he thinks of that. Got

far too much on it. Is he going to risk keeping the red ball in play

and getting the snooker behind the other one? It's pretty

straightforward, you would think. He wants the red to bounce away from

the commission to leave a gap around the back of it. -- cushion. Should

cushion? He needs to hit the road from behind. I think he's OK. I've

What a turnaround this is going to be. This could cost Ding Junhui the

match, this frame, because it will take a massive effort to put this

frame out of his mind. Never in his wildest dreams did he

think he would lose this frame because you have got to carry on,

get out of his chair. He will be glad he did now. That's not the best

of shots, wanted it to be further up the table with the cue ball and

closer to the pink. He has got to play this on the left-hand side. It

We wondered how Ding Junhui would bounce back. He responded in fine

style, firing in this break. Ding Junhui missing the black but

that has brought him right back into this. How all Martin Gould now

He is reluctant to use the rest. I never thought that was guaranteed.

would be frustrated and go for the green.

Is he taking it on? Great shot. Could that be a frame-winner? That

Martin Gould knows how good a shot that Green was.

He is certainly flying along now. I think losing that frame has really

given him a boost. He is playing the way we know he can. He has used that

anger in a good way, it has made him play a lot more aggressively. He is

playing his natural game. Generally, he has looked a different player

since he lost that terrible frame. He never seemed to get a perfect

position an outbreak. It's a shame because the reds are all in the

middle of the table and in the end, it caught him up. He has underhit

this one. He can still cut it in and avoid the yellow. And that is pretty

good. He did well to hold that. He did not

want to go in and out so he only needs the yellow or green.

Doing Junhui left Martin Gould, who could not make enough, and with that

prolific clearance, they are all square at eight frames each.

Will it say 2016 finalist this year? Cracking encounter this. Ding Junhui

won the last meeting at the Shanghai Masters by 5-3 and after bubble

earlier in the evening, he soon his rhythm, knocking it another century

to hit this school on the right-hand side, he has to hit it well. Has he

got the side? Yes. Where he is now, in a couple of

shots time, if you can get the white subway near the reds and pot the

pink and move the difficult read, but just looking at these two, when

the pink when back on its what you said it would make them a little

awkward. He can put this now and just nudge

the other red then he would be nicely on the pink for the left

middle pocket. He might be able to play for the red

in such a way that if he gets a good angle on the ready could pot the red

and move the difficult read, that is not a bad thing to do whenever you

against this. He has to play that shot and get an angle on this road,

and he has done. Maybe a touch more angle on this red than he had

planned. He would have rather had half ball

Paul Dunne this is more potable. -- he would have rather had a half ball

pot and this is more quarter ball. I think you might just be OK because

he has to get close to that red because it has just gone past the

middle pocket, further than he intended. Yes. He would have to get

very close to the red, somewhere near that of the right just the

right of that be perfect. Not quite. This is a very difficult

angle he is looking at if he is going to take this on to the right

corner, and he is so close to its. What a big shot this could be. This

is a shot that could keep Martin Gould in this year's World

Championship, so here we go, it is tough to judge when you are that

close. No. It's not there. But he has got second prize, though, I

thought the red was going to stay over the pocket once he missed it.

He is 13 points in front. If that red Hat have stayed over the pocket

it was end of match. Very well played, there was always

the possibility with the way he played that that he could get the

snooker. How will the luck be of Martin Gould here when he escapes

from the easy snooker. Where is it going to go? I think it will pass

the yellow. That might just be the last shot for Martin Gould. One long

pot on this red and he knows he could be out of this year's

Championships. A good solo pot. Now, you think

there is one good position. Green to yellow and then yellow to green,

because the brown there is just making it slightly awkward.

When you think this is the last problem here is going to have. The

great performance, you have to say, if he goes on to win this from 8-6

down. And that is just perfect. His back was against the wall. Hang

on, he has come up a little bit short. Another few inches and it was

just straightforward. Martin is just anxiously awaiting to see if he can

negotiate the brown to get on the blue. Ding had to century breaks and

three frames. He didn't like this extension earlier in the match when

he had a brown and he never got to screw it back.

Safely end, and it looks to be spot-on. He doesn't need the black

that is off its spot. Martin Gould has played so well, he was looking a

strong favourite. Yes, I think Martin knew he got or

the toughest draw for the qualifiers in the championship and it has

proven so. It wasn't looking good for Ding Junhui when he let that

frame slip away when three smokers were needed, but didn't he come back

strong, and what a performance from this Chinese player. It goes through

to the next round, with a terrific win against Martin Gould, 10-8. When

I started thinking, thinking good, you know, the whole match it puts a

lot of pressure on myself and I tried to enjoy it and Terry try to

help me a lot between the match and 4-1 up and after he came back I lost

some bad frames and it hurt me. After 8-6 I went for everything and

I don't want to think about that, just go, experience, faster, and

think more concentrations. Don't think a lot of other things because

I am spinning fast so I don't get time to think about anything else.

It works under play good. Congratulations to Ding who is now

working alongside the Welsh snooker legend Terry Griffiths. He is into

the last 16, alongside Barry Hawkins and Mark Allen. Mark Alleyne resumed

his match against Mitchell Mann and he was leading 6-3 Eddie had his

sights on a quick flesh. He rattled off the first four friend this

morning and he booked his place in the second round. The first round

here is not very nice at all and you just want to get through it, no

matter how, ten - nine or 10- 08, done it doesn't matter. I knew with

Mitchell's style of play would never be an open game or an attacking

game. I felt like I handled everything pretty well. Also leading

6-3 overnight, Barry Hawkins faced a tougher challenge against the

high-scoring Shang and a half. The 2013 finalists claimed the two

friends who needed for victory, finishing off in style. -- Zhang

I had not really been looking forward to coming and yesterday I

couldn't concentrate all focus. It was very frustrating really and I

was so lucky really that Zhang Anda struggled as well and I ended up

making a 6-3 lead overnight so I was doing cartwheels with the way I felt

underwear played out there yesterday so I am really delighted to still be

here. Well done to Barry Hawkins. We have seen Ding Junhui make it

through to the second round and he will play the winner between the

match between Judd Trump and the man who made the final of the UK

championship in York this season, young rainbow. The China man had his

nose in front all afternoon and it just Trump couldn't pick up any

rhythm at all. We join the action in the night frame. What a pot that is!

Wow. What a pot! What to put it was to

get the, to knock at that pace. It did wobble a few times but safely in

the pocket. Oh, no. A long way off. He cued right across that. As John

had said, this is such an important frame and it shows you what the

tension can do even to a top player in the game. Amazing. He has missed

two easy blacks off the spot. A lot for Liang to do, especially with big

NSA. -- with the yellow safe. Liang Wenbo's temperament has been very

good in this match, much better than it was in the early pot of the UK

where we saw him slapping himself on the face quite hard.

The yellow is the key and also the red next to the pink will play a big

pot in how many he can put here, John. Yes, but if we hark back to

the black off the spot, that was a very poor miss for Judd and he can't

be missing those. He would later pot that and a couple more reds that

Liang is taking here and it would have been 5-4 and shaking hands are

not a bad result. Well, that was a nervy one. He was

just trying to get in behind that. He has managed to just about do it.

It might still pot but this is a thin cut and he mentioned earlier

today that there was a similar shot on the pink and it is difficult when

it is a blind pocket, playing away from it. These are always a little

bit thinner than you think. What about potting the red and moving the

yellow? What about that for a shot? How did he do that? Watch him again

when he gets that lovely little cue ball. Watch it off the green, he

flicks the green and moves the yellow. I forgot to mention the

green, yes. 24. OK, he has got a nice angle on

the blue and every chance now. Blue and pink needed and he has got

a good angle on the blue to come off the ball cushion with a little bit

of side and drop-in behind this pink. If he can live the pink for a

couple of pockets he is looking at it into the left middle pocket but I

think they will be coming off the cushion and swinging it in behind to

give them the choice of pockets. That is what he has done. It could

be one of those, no, he is OK. It was always going to be a chance for

the middle of the corner and the corner it is. Well, just can't

believe that he has cleared up from here.

Oh, showing a little bit of emotion. He is over the moon with that

clearance. It started with back-to-back centuries and he has

won the last two frames and how important is that last frame going

to be because Liang Wenbo has beaten Judd Trump by 6-3.
