Final: Crystal Palace v Manchester United The FA Cup

Clattenburg. Manchester United have taken up their formation positions.

Crystal Palace with one final pre-match huddle. Anthony Martial

was the last-gasp matchwinner in the semifinal. He scored four goals in

his last four games. And the wide men could be the key to an

entertaining cup final. Martial and Mata, Bolasie and Zaha. Can they be

the great entertainers? Manchester United, wearing white in

a final for the ninth time. WHISTLE They have won two, they have lost

the last three. Champions League finals against Barcelona in 2009 and

2011, Crystal Palace in their red and blue stripes. We are underway to

a great noise and a terrific atmosphere. Let's hope that we get a

game that befits the occasion. Bolasie, it was like someone fired

him out of the gun. He couldn't wait to start. I think he is sharing his

intentions. He is going to get at Man Utd at every opportunity.

Michael Carrick. Marcos Rojo, trying to give Martial his first run, but

he was being well watched by Joel Ward. Wayne Hennessey was able to

afford himself a touch before Rashford came calling. Rooney just

ask a question of Chris Smalling. Connor Wickham sets about him. He

has forced Smalling to put that into the crowd. Those early touches are

very important. A lot of nerves around, pressure on the players, it

is how you handle it in those early stages.

Rojo was not quite expecting beat hatchback like that. Belted clear --

not quite expecting the touch back like that. Daley Blind, a player who

likes to have plenty of time. Technically gifted. He makes a good

partnership for Smalling. Maybe not quite so comfortable in possession

but he is by far the best defender of the two.

Just setting their stall out, Man Utd, lots of touches the ball are

always handy on these big occasions. Fellaini followed by Mile Jedinak,

expect that to be a theme. Here comes Antonio Valencia.

CHEERING And the ball was always likely to

beat him, but we have seen him provide those bursts of pace down

the right before to good effect. This is Rooney now in his new role,

a great pass, Valencia running from deep, nearly catching out the

Pallister -- Palace defence. We know him better as a winger. Most of the

noise coming from the Crystal Palace supporters at the moment. If you

have been to Selhurst Park in the last two or three years you will

know it as one of the cauldrons of in this football these days. Some of

it is a little bit choreographed but they don't half make a noise down in

that part of south London. Bolasie, blocked. Palace corner, and the

noise level rises a little bit more. Every time Bolasie gets the ball,

the fans are out of their seats around us, Palace fans. Very good at

set pieces, Palace. Cabaye's quality into the box is outstanding as well.

Delaney is being watched by Rojo. Scott Dann lurking, at the back of

it all, alongside Smalling. De Gea makes a very useful claim, a nice

comfortable one from his point of view. Made it look very easy,

outstanding keeper. Martial. Carrick.

Carrick put under pressure. He has lost the ball. Yohan Cabaye could

not keep it for long himself, though. Now a chance maybe for

Marcus Rashford. A good bit of defending from Pape Souare. Wickham

shields the ball away from Smalling before giving it away again. Cabaye

was a little late in on Michael Carrick. Just interesting, Cabaye

gives the ball away. He has got to move that ball quicker. Connor

Wickham as well losing possession. Out to Rojo pretty swiftly, manages

to beat Ward. Zaha comes in to help out and Hennessey can't prevent the

corner. It was Zaha's first contribution, a defensive one. Rojo

coming inside, an important tackle from Zaha.

That one caught out Palace. Taken short by Blind to Mata, looks for

Fellaini. Jedinak was there with him and Hennessey out to catch. That is

why Jedinak is in the team chiefly today to keep tabs on the hyped

threat that Marouane Fellaini provides. He does that first class

for his team, Fellaini outstanding in the air as we know, a big role

for Jedinak today. It could be very physical, that one. Mile Jedinak is

a really athletic, physical player. On the right side of the laws most

of the time, and you were making the comment that even in the time since

you retired from playing, players are that bit more taller, they look

like long-distance runners these days. I felt like a dwarf in the

tunnel for the game, they are all giants now. Lean and mean. Here's

Rashford. Delaney will have a job on here. Had to get it right. Mark

Clattenburg said he did, at the cost of a corner. Rashford here, he wants

to test players. He asks questions, and Delaney just about get his foot

to this one. Touch and go. Very close. Just about. Blind takes

another short one to Mata. Martial. Martial manages to get into the box

to win another corner. Ward was helped out by McArthur with the

defending in the end. Good early pressure from Manchester United. A

very call customer, 20-year-old Anthony Martial. -- cool

Blind with another corner. Fellaini is not looking towards goal at the

moment. Trying to force a decision from Jedinak, one way or another.

Smalling. He couldn't stay in the air high or long enough. Rooney, he

will get that. Bolasie backs away, invites the cross will stop Mata.

Hennessey made the decision, and a good one too. One you would expect

him to make. Alan Pardew already with a message

or two for his players. Only one English manager has won the cup in

the last 20 years. That was Harry Redknapp with Portsmouth. It was

eight years ago, now. Can Pardew be the next? It could be third time

lucky for the Palace boss, and we could get a treat if it is. Think

about 1990 when it was a player, 3-3, that first game against

Manchester United, and then when he was a manager with Liverpool against

West Ham -- with West Ham against Liverpool in Cardiff. 3-3 and it

went to penalties. Asking for calm, keep the ball.

Rooney to Smalling. I think Palace are quite happy to let Manchester

United have the ball in these areas and maybe hit them on the break.

That is how it was built that it might be played. Yes, just getting

Bolasie to get forward. When they win it, they have to make that first

pass without losing it. A great ball from what looked like Scholes. Wayne

Rooney. Rashford. He is morphing into Paul Scholes as his career goes

along. Rashford to Mata and returned.

Rashford's effort was then blocked by Souare. That confidence we have

been used to seeing so quickly from the teenager, it is all there again.

He just sparks into life, a little give and go, he wanders into free

space at the edge of the box. Outstanding talent. So young.

Blind's corner. Mata tried to help it on. Souare got in the way again.

It is almost a mis-hit from the corner. Like how it just scuffs a

cross will stop great ball. In all sorts of space. Zaha just not doing

his job properly. Souare was quick to tell him about that. This time a

little closer to Mata. Fellaini attacks it. He must've got the last

touch, Mark Clattenburg a clear view and says goalkick, not contested by

the Belgian. Jedinak just straining to get something in the way of that.

Just enough, a grab of the shirt. Just making it as difficult as

possible. He does enough for his team. He is outstanding, though,

Fellaini in the air, you have to say. FA Cup runner-up with Everton

in 2009. That could be a jewel to watch. We talked about the wingers

and what they bring to the game. You see how quickly Valencia is in

on Bolasie. He has to get as tight as he possibly can.

A player of really good quality, Cabaye, has made it into the France

squad for the Euros. Needs to do better on the ball at the moment,

though. He has been very scrappy. There will be quite a few players

out there who will be looking forward to seeing some action in the

tournament in France, which starts in just a few weeks' time. Marcus

Rashford - will he be in Roy Hodgson's final squad? It is still

very much possible. Now, Bolasie with a chance to run. It came off

Blind. De Gea manages to prevent the corner with a very clever slide. And

he applauds the assistant referee for ruling in his favour.

Improvisation from the 'keeper. His alive to everything. He can't be far

away from being the world's best now, can he? He's got to be up

there. His pace around the goal, he makes so many saves instinct of the

with his feet. He is alive to everything. Have not seen many

better penalty saves them the one who pulled off against the car can

in the semifinal. -- against Lukaku in the semifinal.

Martial bundled his way through. Fellaini...

It is Manchester United who have flocked the more menacing side in

what we have seen so far. Far more options on the ball for Manchester

United. Mata coming in off the line, Rooney, getting lots of touches of

the ball. Rooney lets fly, Hennessey can't hold on... That all seemed to

be a little bit in slow motion. Well, it takes a deflection, and

think it catches Hennessey out. Made a bit of a meal of that one. Had a

bit of a wobble in January, with mistakes at Aston Villa and

Manchester City. Wilfried Zaha penalised. Would like to see him get

a bit higher. He has really got to play well on that right-hand side.

We know Bolasie will do it. Zaha has been out for a while. Both of them

have had injury problems. Bolasie had a hip problem at the turn of the

year. Zaha more recently has had hamstring trouble.

It was Marcos Rojo coming round the back. He made a bit of a mess of his

cross. Should be doing better, Rojo, with his cross. It was a great

Poleksic from Rooney, catching everyone out. Difficult one to deal

with, but you would expect him to get it across the goal. We have seen

this possession game from Manchester United a lot under Louis van Gaal.

Does it seem to you as though there is a little bit more purpose to it

today? I think maybe it suits laying at Wembley, the more structured

build-up. You just need that change of pace in the final third. Lingard

I think can consider himself unlucky. We spoke about Puncheon not

playing. Decisions have to be made, of course. But those two maybe bit

unlucky not to start. Jason Puncheon, annoyed about being left

out. Maybe there is a role for a super sub, like Ian Wright in 1990.

That would be something. Good tackle by Cabaye.

Connor Wickham against Smalling. Who fouled who? Connor Wickham has gone

on! The whistle has gone. It looks as though it's going to be Palace

free kick and a yellow card for Smalling, is it? That's exactly what

it is. Well, I can't believe it! Surely he should have played

advantage?! Of course he should have done! We know that Smalling is no

slouch. They both go down. I cannot believe the referee has not played

on there. That's a shocking decision. There is the foul. He has

got that bit right. I'm not even sure it is a foul. They are both

leaning on each other. That is a massive let off for Manchester

United, because he is through on goal. They will gladly take that

booking. They will be delighted with a booking there. Was that an apology

from Mark Clattenburg? Once he has blown the whistle, he can do little

about it. That's remarkable. We do not know how costly of course that

will be. De Gea makes the save! Cabaye, we know about his quality.

This was a wicked Poleksic in. Just a touch off Bolasie, I think. You

would expect him to save that, of course.

Alan Pardew has every right to be seething over that decision. The

first really big moment of the FA Cup Final 2016. Cabaye, that's a

very good delivery. Strong headed clearance from Fellaini. Cabaye

looks for Scott Dann, but won't find him with that. I just united can

regroup and take a deep breath, as can the referee. Well, he has not

made a mistake deliberately, but Heath, he is well up with play. He

should be playing on, giving the advantage to the striker. Ballack

should be one up. Crazy decision. Just shows you, we can all make

mistakes. That was not a good backpass from Michael Carrick. It is

a rare mistake from him. Palace are pressing. They will feel they have

been unjustly treated at this point. That will all drift away if they

manage to score the opening goal soon.

Mark Clattenburg blows the whistle, and he felt that Blind was being

fouled by Wickham, and not the other way around. It is so difficult to

make a decision for the referee. He has got that one right, that is for

sure. Palace are into the game. Many will

feel they should have had the chance at least of going into the lead.

Manchester United will enjoy a spell of passing now, settle themselves

down again. Yes, Fellaini, surprising how forward he is in

these opening exchanges. Rooney really likes looking for him with

the diagonal. There he is, pushing on.

Martin! That's a good save by Hennessey. Good, strong hand.

Here they come again, with Rojo waiting out wide.

Mata trying to bounce one half Fellaini. It bounced awkwardly, and

Cabaye has taken out Carrick. United free kick. Carrick gets his reward

there. He was in really quickly. Good save from Hennessey. Just falls

really nicely for Mata. 'Keeper tips it round nicely.

Rooney is thinking about the shot. Here he is. Might want to think

again. Hell of a long way out, he's really

got no chance of scoring from there. That will help Wayne Hennessey. Keep

the ball, calm down. No surprise to see statistics like that in pretty

much any game that Manchester United have played in recent times. They

dominate the ball, don't always win the game. That's right. But it can

be a bit embarrassing on the big occasion if you're just not in

possession of the Poleksic at all. Scott Dann, plenty of time on the

ball for him. Of course, you have got to make chances with that

possession, and so far, the best chance has gone to Palace.

Valencia, as always, willing and waiting out wide. Back it comes to

him. That was blocked by Souare, but what with? The corner is given.

Another decision for the referee. There was nothing wrong with it, but

the left arm being raised made us want to have another look. Up on the

gantry, it might have look like a handball, but it certainly wasn't,

it hit him in the face. Fellaini! Well, it has, for Palace

player. Well, it's good movement. He gets away from his man. How he

doesn't put that in the high-end of the net... I think it comes off

Jedinak. Fellaini should be putting that in and he knows it.

In front Blind. Fellaini was allowed to get it down this time. But Palace

are able to get it away. Almost desperation, clearing that one.

Ward did really well. He certainly will stick to his task today, up

against Martial. We haven't seen much of Martial in these early

stages. And he loses the ball, to Wilfried Zaha. And a little push on

the back one of his predecessors as a United winner. Zaha would have

enjoyed that one. Deemed not to be good enough. Definite foul. Martial

is not in the game. He needs to wake up for his team. Not seen too much

of Zaha, either. He said he felt worthless at times

at Old Trafford. He is certainly proving his worth today. Certainly a

big player in this Crystal Palace team. Bolasie lining up a shot, and

it needed to be saved by David de Gea. You can't take URI off Bolasie.

He will try from anywhere. Wickham pulled across it. The shots

are coming in, Palace shots on the United goal. Connor Wickham has done

everything right there, bar the shot. Gave it away really easily,

Carrick. Works it from one foot to the other. Has not got any direction

in that shot. Capable of great goals, though. This season,

certainly. He seems to come good at the end of the season, Birchley kept

Sunderland up. He scored in that semifinal. That will be on his mind.

Enjoying the duel with Smalling. Martial.

Rooney. United are forced to go backwards. And again to Rooney.

Rashford. He was wanting V1- two with Juan Mata -- the 1-2. Just that

sharpness they need, it will have to be a bit of brilliance from somebody

to break through this Palace rearguard.

-- Rojo won't quite get there. Anthony Marshall not quite getting

into the game. Cantona was comparing him with Ronaldo. Poise,

athleticism. He is not doing it today. Still early days. Those

Manchester United fans certainly wouldn't mind if he doesn't do

anything except score the late winner again, as he did in the semi.

Free kick, Palace. There wasn't any advantage coming from that one.

Zaha manages to tease the crossover. Good work from Smalling, just got in

front of Wickham at the last. Excellent, proper marking in the

box. Proper wing play from Zaha. Finally. There was a feeling, and we

have just passed the halfway mark, that Palace would be very happy to

get into half-time ads 0-0 and see how the game developed from there.

The much generally still the case, although that big decision Mark

Clattenburg made earlier, I feel they deserve to be leading. Zaha

couldn't get the cross right this time. Mata keeps it away from

Bolasie and Souare, and then is forced to put it out of play. Great

closing down. As good as his technique is, Mata, Zaha's slacking

a bit of quality to Bolasie at the far post.

Martial feeling the breath of Joel Ward behind him. He is almost in his

boots, he is a player who knows a thing or two about winning the FA

Cup. Do you still get nightmares when you see him standing there out

wide? I try not think about it was that I should have brought him down.

A goodly and a good win from Wickham. Cover came from Smalling.

I wouldn't be surprised if the message from Ryan Giggs was to bring

the wingers and more. Rashford across, there is Martial! That is a

goal saving block. Joel Ward with effectively a superb save for

Crystal Palace. It is Rashford again. Once he gets isolated to the

centre halves in that wide position, just skips past as man, he runs at

you. It is frightening when he runs at people, and look at the power he

puts on that. Ward is delighted to see that go past. That will be a

free kick for Palace. This young man just impresses you every time you

watch. Alan Pardew in the build-up today said his team plays street

football. Rashford is like that, fresh from the street. Definitely.

If it is a wide position, a central position, it doesn't matter. He has

got pace. His movement is outstanding. If Roy Hodgson, he is

here today, is he going to take him for the Euros? At the moment he is

looking nailed on. He won't be involved tomorrow in Manchester

City's round against Turkey of course, but those who are might have

to play really well to try to keep him out. I think storage is under

the most pressure. -- Sturridge is under the most pressure. Was Wayne

Rooney 18 when he stole the show at Euro 2004? It is a young man's Jame.

-- game. Wayne Hennessey, who is a certain to

be in Wales's goal at the Euros. Blind not able to make a mistake

here and he has done, he has given the ball to Zaha, try to hurricane

that, this time advantage is applied, back comes Rooney, that was

a good tackle. He won the ball. Zaha doesn't think he did. It was a poor

ball to Blind. Some great defending. Pulled back to Juan Mata. Another

superb bit of Crystal Palace blocking. Souare flung himself at

Mata's feat. Fantastic defending. This was the other end, just look

here to see if Wayne Rooney makes the file. No. He goes to ground

early. He doesn't get any of the ball. He doesn't, but I think the

player just trips trying to slow down. Clattenburg was certainly

right on the spot there. Crystal Palace will just feel at this point

that nothing is going their way, as it should be doing. In from Blind.

Away by Wickham. Wouldn't come down for Zaha to sprint away with it.

Up in the air from Delaney. Hennessey had to punch. McArthur

wanted to long. Allowed to advance and shoot. It

might be his final Manchester United goal. He would want to sign off with

something special. He hasn't scored for 14 months now. Let's take

another look at this Rooney challenge on Zaha. I don't think it

touches him, it was poor play in the first place from Daley Blind. Just

trying to slow down. The referee does well. It is a handball.

It certainly demonstrates if you are Blind at the back or Smalling, you

can't take any liberties with these Palace players. They will storm all

over you. Blind. Won by Jedinak, who was pulled unfairly by Fellaini. It

is like a tug of war with Jedinak and Fellaini. Jason Puncheon

disappointed to be left out but still happy to give a tactical word

or two from the touchline. When it happens to you, you have to be a

good pro, and a club man. He is still hoping and praying he can get

on and feature in this match. Smalling, that is commanding stuff.

Dann, a little bit more hesitant on his part. I think he was looking for

a little pass into midfield, and there's no one available. Up towards

Bolasie. It comes off the heel of Yannick Bolasie. Just looks like he

needs to get free of Antonio Valencia. He makes great runs,

Bolasie, off the ball. Joel Ward running again. Arm in arm.

And the whistle has gone. Is that another Palace free kick when Joel

Ward might have had the chance to run on? He was running on. Free kick

on halfway. The whistle went again. At a major event, we talk about good

performances from the players, but there has to be a good performance

from the referee, and it is one of those were again if he lets it run,

he makes the decision later, you might find here that Ward is

through. He has got too much pace. You could argue the defender has

stopped because he has heard the whistle, but Clattenburg should let

that go. A yellow card for Rojo, scant consolation for Alan Pardew

who we saw very clearly make the point, "That's twice". He is right.

He is not even looking, Clattenburg, he makes his decision to early. It

wasn't as though the tussle was continuing, Ward was away.

Plenty of spin on that from Hennessey.

Not too many smiles on the United bench. They will know as

professionals when a player has been denied goal-scoring opportunities,

they feel a bit lucky, Manchester United and their staff.

WHISTLE He gets the free kick, courtesy of

Fellaini. Certainly sticking to their task at the back, Ward,

Souare. Play it quickly is the message from the Palace boss,

Pardew. Two advantages that weren't played aside, he will be quite

content with his team. Not so happy with the man in the middle. Mark

Clattenburg is explaining a couple of decisions to questions that are

being asked of him. He can explain as much as he wants, but he has made

two glaring mistakes. Rooney, with a chance to run.

He has got Mata all the way on the other side. No way through for him

yet. No way through for Rashford, either. Zaha. Jedinak once it back.

Could not find the pass, Zaha. This is the thing, Palace have got to

keep the ball better. Something Manchester United are trying to do,

is pass and build. Martial, busy and bright, but he ran

into a red and blue crowd. He has gone a bit more central, and he

looks more dangerous. As we approach the half-time break. The Palace fans

are cranking it up a bit. There is a theory which Alan Pardew let is into

yesterday's. He said, this Manchester United team fades, and

the longer the game goes on, the stronger we will be.

Well, if you have that belief in your game you stick to it. Van Gaal

will not be concerned. Nothing ruffles him. He will be happy with

the possession. He would be happy with that. It's going to be another

yellow card, and it will be Mata this time. Alan Pardew is incensed.

He joins Rojo and Smalling in the book. Well, it's over the top. It's

a late challenge. Definite booking. One more minute to play before the

interval. He writes a blog online, Juan Mata.

And that is a very high line from Manchester United.

That will be the goalkeeper's. It would not fall kindly enough for

either Cabaye or MacArthur. Two crucial decisions from Mark

Clattenburg. The crucial one was the first one. Free kick even when

Wickham got up and might well have gone on to score. Goalless at

half-time, who would have thought it?! Not too many clear-cut chances?

Not too many, Palace have made it abundantly clear, they're going to

get ten men behind the ball, give possession to Manchester United, and

every time they get it back, they will hit it up early to Wickham. And

it should have worked, but for a shocking refereeing performance.

Danny, you think they are sitting a bit too deep? I understand what

they're trying to do, playing on the break, with the pace they have got.

But they are so deep, it is very hard to get up and help Wickham. I

want them to be just 10-15 yards further up and get into the game

more, because they are getting dominated. I think the possession is

pretty much 70-30 in Manchester United's favour. It will please

Louis van Gaal. Yes, but that does not get you goals. I think they are

playing really well, but Crystal Palace blocked every shot on goal.

So they're far, it is just a matter of time. Rashford came through a

couple of times, very clever player. If I was Louis van Gaal, I would be

pleased with the performance of my team. I would tell them, look, the

chances will come, the goal will come, but be careful of the

counterattack. Talking of counterattacks, we saw one or two

early on. And those decisions by Mark Clattenburg... This is exactly

what Alan Pardew will have told his team to do. Ten players behind the

ball, soaking up the pressure, try and wait, win the ball, and all of a

sudden, bang, couple of passes, you're in behind the back four. And

this is an absolutely shocking decision from the referee. Why on

earth can he not wait a second or two? He has blown far too early, as

he has done on a couple of other occasions. It is a foul, yes, but

let it go on for a second. He does not have to blow straightaway. I

think he has shown nerves, the referee. I think the occasion has

got to him. But Danny, he has made an error, and then, 10-15 minutes

later, this. Why is he blowing so early again? Let it go on! Ruud? I

agree. That can change a game. And he has been too much of an influence

on these kind of occasions. And this was a third one, Bolasie is

one-to-one down the line. He can go back and give him the yellow card,

but lets the game flow instead of blowing your whistle all the time.

At the other end, one or two chances. Good save from Hennessey,

Danny? It was. One of the occasions when they did get in behind the

Palace back four. We have not seen much of Mata off that right-hand

side. It was half a chance, really. He should save it. Very good save

from the goalkeeper. He would have been disappointed if that had gone

in. A bright spark who we spoke about before the game, Marcus

Rashford, wryly. I think he's a very clever player. At the moment, on the

right side, how he gets away from players. Sometimes, you can get a

hamstring problem from running so much! But he keeps the opposition

occupied all the time. He gets in good situations, giving you good

angles. This was the one I was talking about, through the legs.

What I like about him, he keeps his head up. Looking for players and he

picks out Martial. And you can tell his team-mates have got confidence

in him. Sometimes you see little balls rolled up to the centre

forward. They are actually ringing it up to him, because they've got

confidence in him, and his touch is that good. He's giving Roy is

something to think about. You know how young he is, even if perhaps he

takes in for experience? Yes, take him for experience, but you could

use him. He's playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world, and it

is not phasing him in the slightest. He has no fear. That's what will

impress Roy, he's doing it on the biggest stage. If he can go out and

get a goal in the second half, he is really asking a question. Does he

really need to get a goal? He doesn't need to. He is putting in a

very, very good performance on the biggest stage. Marouane Fellaini,

always a player that interests people. Alan, you think he has been

selected for what he does at both ends? Both defending in his own box,

and also attacking. Palace are brilliant at set pieces. He should

have done better here, although his movement was good. Here, we

highlighted Scott Dann before the game. Man United have done their

homework. Again, the same thing. Another one comes in, and here's

there. . That's the area that Crystal Palace like to attack. I

find it somewhat ridiculous, that Manchester United, one of the best

clubs in the world, are now selecting players because they can

head it. Because that's what he is in the team for. He is tidy on the

ball. They should have confidence in the footballing ability of 13. No,

you have to adapt yourself also to your position. Because they have a

certain strength. You have to. When we played at Chelsea against

Wimbledon, you can't have the midgets playing. So therefore, most

of the time, the back four, the two centre halves, they mark. You need

somebody in the hole. Certainly in defensive circumstances, anyway.

With the pace of Rashford, will it be dangerous? It is small margins,

just so that they can get at United a little bit more. Cabaye we have

not seen much of. Him on the ball, get him playing. It could go to

extra time, and who knows, even penalties. We shall see. There have

been more than 1400 goals scored so far in this year's FA Cup. And now,

Roy Hodgson is the official starter for the Great Manchester Run

tomorrow. Out on the pitch, the winner of this year's FA People's

Cup are being presented with their trophies. A competition run in

conjunction with the BBC's Get Inspired campaign. Rio Ferdinand

just trying to get in on our shop, go away! We have got Phil Neville

with us. From a Manchester United perspective, first of all, we will

talk about Crystal Palace. What do you think they produced in the first

45? They have dominated possession, they have been doing that all

season, but Louis van Guy will be saying you have to take your

chances. Fellaini has had a chance, Rashford has shown really good bits,

but we have seen already Palace will get chances. We talk on occasion

that players get nervous on occasions like this, do you think it

happened to the referee as well? Alan Shearer called it shocking. He

blew his whistle straightaway on Smalling. And when Joel Ward went

through as well. The start of the game did not help both sides, Palace

started nervously. You mean the delay before kick-off? Yes, six or

seven extra minutes does not help anyone when you have prepared for so

long. What do you think in the second 45 minutes, because it has

got to be decided today. Manchester United's defence is there for the

taking, and United have to take their chances. Louis van Gaal will

want them to take the first chance otherwise it will be a different

game. We will say get lost to Rio Ferdinand and head back to the

studio. We have got to be friendly with Rio, he is working for us in

the Euros! Who will be the more satisfied manager, who will want to

make serious changes? I don't think you will see any serious changes,

maybe in the last ten minutes of the game is as it is, but Palace will

play the same way. They will sit deep, surrender possession to Man

Utd and hope very much in the first half they will get a chance or two.

I still think Man Utd can improve. They can move the ball a little bit

quicker in the final third and stretch the full-backs of Crystal

Palace. You know van Gaal well, Ruud, what do you think? They have

had plenty of opportunities. He was a continued to play like this,

chances will come, get the ball in the box a little bit earlier, get

the passes a little bit quicker and eventually we will score. Danny,

which way do you see it going? Second halves with Man Utd

traditionally have been a lot more entertaining than the first. Hope

so. I just want to see Palace get in the faces of Man Utd a little bit

higher, because Carrick and Rooney getting the ball in really come to

be at times and I just want to see them be a bit braver, and try to win

the game, rather than hope. They are playing in a hopeful way. Rather

than a confident way. Alan Pardew is coming out, he went so close of

course when he was manager of West Ham all those years ago. Can it be

his turn? We shall find out. Possibly in the second half, if not

it will go to extra time, and who knows, even penalties.

COMMENTATOR: We will certainly find out today, eight of the last nine

finals have been decided by just a single goal, the exception being

Arsenal's thumping of Aston Villa a year ago. Five have finished 1-0.

WHISTLE It does have that feel at the moment

of a game that might be settled by just one strike. Crystal Palace 0-0

Manchester United at the start of the second half, no changes made by

either man in charge, in terms of personnel on the field, just yet.

WHISTLE The flag is up. That is going to be

a Palace free kick. Rojo just wondering offside. Inexcusable. You

can look all the way along the line. He is sleeping. With the exception

of 20-year-old Martial and 18-year-old Rashford, Louis van Gaal

kind of reverted back to his experienced players right the way

through to the bench today. Tim Fosu-Mensah has also performed well.

Yes, you could say when he came to it he has not used the children, or

the kids. You call them children, they are really. That will be a free

kick for United. It might be the first Palace name taken now. Scott

Dann. This fellow, Rashford, when he runs at you, you can't get too

tight. Tries to win it. He makes the foul.

Martial. No foul, a wag of the finger from the referee towards the

Frenchman. Rooney had to fight to hold off

James McArthur. That is what you want with Wayne Rooney, you need him

at boiling point, scrapping for everything.

Delaney. Helped on by Wickham. Zaha against Rojo. Cabaret on the edge of

the box is screaming. It is that diagonal ball, Wickham -- Cabaye on

the edge of the box will up comes the centre-half. Connor

Wickham has come out of the penalty area to use his long throw ability.

He loops it in menacingly. Fellaini stayed in front to knock it down, he

will have another go here, Wickham. Almost like a corner. No one has

ever matched Rory Delap for getting the length and the trajectory.

Another loopy one. It has come out to Bolasie. He lost his footing as

he tried to hit it. Smalling. That is a Lassie. The flag

is up against James McArthur as he collected. Free kick, United. A bit

of a tussle. McArthur's presents not welcome. He just sleeps in, just

strays offside. The linesman has done well. He does get a bit tetchy

out there. James McArthur three years ago in the Wigan side that

beat Manchester City. Only one other previous FA Cup winner on the field,

Juan Mata, a winner for years ago with Chelsea.

Martial. Fortunate to get it back so quickly. Valencia. He has maybe not

got forward as much as he would like so far and the game but here he goes

now. Using Fellaini. Fellaini does well against Pape Souare. He thought

it was a corner, I did initially. Goalkick is the uncontested

decision. Again a very slow, ponderous build-up. Fellaini is not

going to run away from anybody. Souare has been solid at left-back,

hasn't always been the case this season. He has just sat in, hasn't

gone anywhere. Sat alongside the co-owner, Steve Parish, is Mark

Bright. The good luck charm. He is not talking, that is a rarity! His

mind will have gone back 26 years, he played a key role in that

thrilling 3-3 draw between these two teams. Of course he played his part,

along with Ian Wright, two very difficult opponents to play against,

I must say. You were telling me that Ian Wright talks about that day so

frequently, about how he came on and won the game. He didn't of course,

they drew the game. It was a win for Ian, because it really put him on

the map. It was one of the great FA Cup final substitute shows. Let's

not forget Mark Hughes, who also scored two goals in the final. Let's

not forget Lee Martin, with the goal of his life in the replay. Of

course. I have not yet suggested that this would come close to being

a 3-3 thriller today. I wonder if someone will have to come off the

bench really to ignited. Michael Carrick, the Manchester

United possession pattern has resumed. Loud chanting of" Eagles"

has resumed from the other end. Valencia round the back. Not the

right service. Too slow. Attached to Fellaini, lovely touch from

Rashford! The baharat old by Marouane Fellaini. Carrick. -- the

bar rattled. Can Manchester United keep up the intensity around the

Palace box? Not now, they won't. Neatly taken by McArthur. Now

Bolasie. He gave himself too much to do,

Rashford. Was as build-up for the chance. The footballing brain

Rashford has is outstanding for someone so young. It seems to be

pure instinct. Martial. Pure pace. Not able to go up through the gears

there, though. Rooney, he has seen Valencia and he has seen Fellaini.

Valencia ordered Fellaini to leave it. Valencia, a cross, it was

defended by Ward and cleared by Bolasie out of play. Palace are

having to sit and soak for a bit here. Yes. Great play. Look at this

little flick, Fellaini hitting the post. You don't get much closer than

that. Having to turn up the heat here a little bit, Manchester

United. Rojo picked off by Zaha, the pass from Wayne Rooney was a little

too casual. Palace get a throw as Zaha is flawed by Marcos Rojo. This

is the build-up again for this chance. Just that little ball, just

a little flick. Fantastic awareness. A good effort from Fellaini. He

thinks he has beaten the keeper, he has, but it doesn't go in.

So much to his game for someone so young.

Rooney and Smalling got in each other's way. The result is a free

kick for handball. A rueful look skywards from Chris Smalling

afterwards. Sloppy, and it is in a dangerous area. We know the strength

of this Palace team from set pieces. Let's see where Delaney goes, where

is Dann going? Somewhere in the middle. Wickham right in the thick

of it. It is a good ball in by the

Frenchman. And it's wide from Mile Jedinak, who had peeled away. The

fans really play their part in winding this up from the set piece.

It is a year and a half since he last scored.

Now, Bolasie trying to put the squeeze on de Gea.

Bolasie claims he is being held by Blind. And from a long way away,

Mark Clattenburg gives it. The referee does well there. He had a

handful of lassie's shirt. Blind taking issue with the assistant

referee. I was watching it closely. Definite foul from Blind. Another

chance for Palace to put a telling ball into the box, attacking the end

behind which their fans are housed. As we have seen from his time with

Newcastle United, in Paris, and today, Cabaye usually puts in a good

ball. Right on cue, it is a bad one. That is usual for him. Usually he

waits for the fans to crank it up. Should be doing better there.

Rashford... Doesn't always work out for him. This final could really do

with a goal. Are of good one, preferably, to match some of those

we have already seen in the FA Cup this season. You can vote for your

Good work from Rojo. Delaney did not take any chances. Corner, Manchester

United. It's that man again, Fellaini, coming in at the far post.

Such a handful. Good defending from Delaney. Blind and Mata were

contemplating the quick one, but there were two Palace players

enclosed books at it. -- players in close oximetry.

Fellaini is like a magnet to that ball. It always seems to find him.

No goals, plenty of corners. It is all quite pedestrian. Yes, I

think Palace will be happy with this.

Here's Martial, who usually does things quickly. And that will be

United's 11th corner of the match. They are saying, are you good enough

to beat us? We're going to be camped on the edge of our box.

That has beaten Hennessey! Dann gets it away! The header was from Anthony

Martial. Crystal Palace on the counter, with Bolasie. He gets it in

towards Zaha, who slipped. And for the first time all day, the game is

opening up. Suddenly it is end-to-end. Powerful run by Delaney.

Mark Clattenburg comes across. Yellow card in hand... He caught

Rojo hard. I think it was there to go for. It is a great run from

Delaney. It's difficult for him to pull out of that, surely. Great

Alexey in from Valencia. Just not able to put it in. Great header.

United have now struck both posts of Wayne Hennessey's goal since

half-time. The outside of both posts. This was the challenge. Not

great when we see it again. Absolutely nowhere near the ball. He

is lucky to stay on with that. Marcos Rojo might not be able to

stay on. I don't think Delaney was trying deliberately to take him out.

But he did not show any care for his opponent at all. Neil Swarbrick, the

fourth official, is just having a word with Damien Delaney, saying, I

know you went for the ball. That's not really an excuse. Because he has

ran 40 yards with it, he's got the benefit of the doubt. Four years

ago, he had to be coaxed into joining Crystal Palace by Dougie

Freedman. He was on the verge of packing in the game altogether and

contemplating taking up triathlon. I think you should do that!

Let's hope Rojo is OK to continue. Palace fans are giving it the Poznan

treatment. All black shirted, all together. It is up to the fans to

try and lift it now. Definitely. There's a few tired legs out there.

Just over an hour now. Nobody wanting to give it anything away,

but you're going to have to go for this if you want to be a hero.

Let's see what the players are made of now. I think Marcos Rojo is about

to succumb to that injury. Rojo is just about a passenger but

he pulls it back. Martial... It might be Rojo's last

contribution. Darmian is going to come on and replace him shortly. Up

towards Wickham. Rooney has given it away. He has done that a lot today.

The brave new midfield world takes some adapting to. Martial thought he

was fouled. The United bench thought he was fouled. Rooney pings that

ball in. Martial definitely has a case for a foul. There is the first

substitution. Rojo has got something to say to Damien Delaney on his way

off. Rightly so, his afternoon has been ended. Just a month ago, we saw

Darmian having THE moment of his Manchester United career so far,

with a cracking goal against Crystal Palace. It was a great effort, I

think it was with his left foot. And it was a left-back who won the cup

for them 26 years ago, against Crystal Palace. Who knows? Some

frustration starting to come to the fore with Wayne Rooney. We said, you

have to have Wayne Rooney at boiling point. He has been a bit sloppy at

times, but he's certainly given 100%. Jedinak challenges... Delaney!

Clemens was happy to cover, but he knew it was going over the top.

Again, another ball into the box. Flicked on by Dann. Speculatively

effort from there. Never really going to score from there.

I he hasn't seen thrilling games. I wonder what he makes of it. Is he

seeing enough attack from Manchester United? I'm sure all the time he's

thinking about what he would be doing. I'm certain of it. Jason

Puncheon is getting some detailed instruction from Keith Millen.

A little bit scrappy at times in the first half, but the second has

matched it. He will have been disappointed not to have started the

game, so he might become in on now thinking, I can win this for Palace.

Just to prove something to his manager.

Marcus Rashford is now down hurt. They closed the door on him well

there, Palace. The ball is out, so Rashford can get

some treatment. Let's hope its not serious. Not good to see. Has he

done the inside of his knee? Just a change of direction, coming inside,

putting too much wait on that medial ligament. That's nasty.

Only 86 days ago that he burst onto the scene, scoring two goals against

their Danish opponents at the end of February in Europa League.

Manchester United will be in that competition next season. Worth

pointing out that West Ham and Southampton will be interested

observers today. If Manchester United win, West Ham get the third

qualifying round place in that competition, Southampton would be

bumped up into the group stage. Crystal Palace into the group stage,

if they win. Manchester United have come close twice. Looking at the

montage of chances for Manchester United, you wonder, will they be

ruined this, having dominated possession? Hope that is not the end

of things for Rashford. It is a contact injury, but it's on the

medial ligament. It doesn't look good. Really doesn't.

Just the pace he is walking, it seems as though he has run his race

today. Ashley Young is going to come on. Martial will probably go down

the middle. Ashley Young will go out wide.

Back to Martial, forced down, free kick United. Rooney has taken it.

Martial slipped. Good footwork to get away from

Fellaini. Wickham adjusted his direction nicely there. Cabaye,

Bolasie. WHISTLE Flagged up. Bolasie trying so hard

to stay onside. A good little ball through. You can see him just

tracking back trying to stay on. Just offside. The Palace change is

interesting, taking off the man who started as playmaker, a disappointed

Yohan Cabaye. On comes Jason Puncheon.

He wants to retain, you has a set number of workers in there. Doesn't

want to have too many flair players. Cabaye will go straight in to his

role. Ashley Young has come on for Marcus Rashford and straightaway

gone down the middle. Louis van Gaal has done this. Juncker this at

Spurs, I remember, in a 3-0 defeat, mind you. And then he came on

against Bournemouth in that delayed game on Tuesday, and he scored about

three minutes after coming on. Clearly sees it as a role he can

perform. Louis van Gaal knows his players better than anyone but I

thought Martial would have been better to go centrally.

Throws the ball into Juan Mata. They make the changes but not even the

thought of changing Wayne Rooney and putting him into attack. Those days

seem to have gone already. It is almost forwards versus

defences in the second half, Manchester United taking the game to

Palace. Fellaini beaten by Pape Souare. An

absolutely great header. Blind looking for Fellaini again.

It has come for Martial. Another critical Palace block. Joel Ward.

Ward and Souare. Any number of crucial stops. Like a throwback for

Man Utd. Ward, a great block. This time it is Fellaini, up and not

decisively away, nor was that from Jedinak. That is. McArthur puts his

foot through it. Wickham performing a thankless task up in isolation.

That is the problem for Palace, can't get anyone to support him.

Here's Blind. Just a little over 15 minutes of the 90 to go. Unless a

winning goal can be found, we are going to have another half an hour.

Young could beat Delaney. It is united's throw.

The drone is coming from the other end of the field, where Palace's

fans are ready to erupt into song. Here they come. Mata to Rooney.

Young. Wasn't quite crisp enough to divert it back to Mata. Wickham.

Bundled off it. The meat in the sandwich. Palace free kick. A good

foul as well that Connor Wickham bought for his team, just to give

them a bit of respite. Been under so much pressure. Vital that he keeps

hold of the ball, when he can. I should just say congratulations to

Hibernian, who have beaten Rangers 3-2, thanks to a late, late winner.

The Scottish Cup is going to Easter Road, it is their first cup win for

114 years. Manchester United wishing up high, trying to keep those Palace

players out of their box. In it comes from Delaney. Jedinak caused a

problem. It wouldn't quite sit. Scott Dann could not dig it out. He

is still up there though. In comes the cross from Puncheon. Doesn't

quite reach Dann, but he will stay up there because it is going to be a

Palace corner. They have hardly been down that end all half. Another ball

into the box, they really test you, Palace. Smalling is up to that test.

Puncheon this time will be taking the delivery.

Mata tries to obscure his view. Fellaini. Joel Ward, invited to

shoot by the fans. Puncheon, that was well collected and brilliantly

What an introduction into the game for Puncheon! Unbelievable, shades

of Ian Wright, as you say, in 1990. Just about onside, takes a good

touch, and he smashes it into the back of the net. Fantastic true

strike, inspiration finish. And, boy, did that please him?

Unbelievable celebration for him, disappointed at being left out of

the game, what a reaction from the player! First-class! There was some

feeling in the goal, not sure about the rhythm in the manager's moves,

but there are some noise in those Palace fans now. It is their FA Cup

to lose! Thinking about 1990 again, it is a break down the left, a

control and a thumping finish. It was like Lee Martin for United.

Isn't it strange how these things happen? You could not have written

the script. I think we spoke to him before the match and said to him,

now you are not playing, maybe you will have to come on and win it for

your team. Well, there is a long way to go but he has gone some way to

doing that. Can United hit back? Up goes Jedinak. Darmian.

One previous FA Cup goal in Jason Puncheon's career. It came for

Barnet against Colchester. How about this one? A Roy of the Rovers

moment. You felt his disappointment at not being selected but maybe it

was a masterstroke from Pardew. Rooney, surely has to get himself

forward, even if he is not being directed to. He is going now. Rooney

forced away, pulls back to Fellaini, there is Mata! It's in! CHEERING

The Palestine offenders just couldn't keep it out! The final has

come to life! Juan Mata has United level!

Well, this is proper FA Cup football! Wayne Rooney is absolutely

brilliant on this run. He would not be denied, he runs with this ball

for an age, just probing, going into that defence further and further. He

thinks a ball into the far post, fantastic quality, Fellaini knocks

it down and Mata does the rest. Fantastic response from Manchester

United. Joel Ward has blocked everything. Not that one. One leg

and onto the other and in. Louis van Gaal is to his feet. His Manchester

United men were behind for less than three minutes. Palace 1-1 United.

Final on! We have a proper game here now. A fantastic atmosphere.

Scott Dann heads out. Most Palace fans, not him, but most have quickly

shrugged off the disappointment to find their voices again. It is a

time for cool heads and strong hearts all over. I think when you go

a goal down, you ask for that character and personality. We saw it

with Wayne Rooney definitely taking the game to Palace.

Mata. Souare was all too aware of Ashley Young's presents. Had to

swivel it out of play. We understand, we hear the story so

often, the United bench were just getting ready to take Juan Mata off

when he scored. Well, there you are. Interestingly, never saw so many

balls played into the box for Fellaini. Very old-fashioned but it

was effective. It was there in the goal as well. Darmian had to quicken

his stride. There is McArthur. There is Zaha. Held by Matteo Darmian.

Palace free kick. Palace have handed the sheet into

the officials. They are going to put Dwight Gayle on the Connor Wickham

now. You wouldn't half be surprised if Wicken goes on to score now --

Wickham. Dwight Gayle is ready. Scott Dann gets his head to the

ball. Souare, he had to make that. Darmian.

It is McArthur who had dropped deep. Ward. Looked as though he was having

a problem there. He has got another one here. It is Martial. Turned away

from Young. It is United who have the head of steam here. The Lancia.

It is Ashley Young. And finally, after all sorts of bobbling, soiree

turns the ball out of danger. Manchester United coming on strong.

Pardew saying before that they fade. Got that wrong. Manchester United

over history don't do that. So scrappy in there. Just won't sit

for Ashley Young to get anything on it. Thankless task for him to

Cologne striker. He has run his race. This is the player, Dwight

Gayle, that everyone says is almost a clone of Ian Wright. Ian Wright

himself has called him the best finisher but Crystal Palace have

got. Rooney is starting to take charge.

Hasn't done enough. Tried to take charge to keenly there. Mark

Clattenburg will bring it back and now book the captain of Manchester

United and England. Dare I say, that was better refereeing Cherry Hill

has played the advantage, which he didn't do in the first half? That is

a wild challenge. A totally committed Wayne Rooney. 3.5 minutes

of the 90 to go. There will be a bit to add on. There might be another 30

minutes. It is a much better match now.

Lifted in beautifully by Souare! And it was missed by Zaha. Zaha wins the

corner. Sapling will be disappointed that he does not connect with that.

Great ball in from the left. He was not able to adjust quickly enough.

Smalling spotted Scott Dann just in time. It's another corner. So many

battles going on there. Great challenge from Smalling. Both

players, eyes on the ball, totally committed. Great defending.

Another one in from Puncheon. This time, straight behind for a goal

kick and a heavy limp from Scott Dann following that battle with

Smalling a moment ago. Pulled back for Martial. Puncheon

was there. The first pass has got to work - otherwise Manchester United

just keep coming back. We have hardly seen Bolasie or Zaha running

with it in the second half. Goal kick, Crystal Palace. Wayne

Hennessey not in any great hurry. There are two or three Palace

players just wanting a bit of a breather. As we have another look at

the goals. He is the driving force, Wayne Rooney. And the scorer of the

equaliser is now replaced. Youthful energy and pace replaces him, in the

shape of Jesse Lingard. Lingard will certainly add something different,

with his pace. We've got five more minutes to play.

Rooney tries to keep it away from him, and Mark Clattenburg is the

free kick to Manchester United. I thought that might happen. Puncheon

is just a little bit overzealous. Not too much wrong with that, to be

fair. Rooney - not his first untidy pass

of the day. He has got to be careful with his challenges now, and he has

had two little bites at Zaha, who did brilliantly. De Gea has let that

one go. Well, Bolasie should have been coming in at the far post. He

has gone from the game. He has been gone a while. He has been doing an

awful lot of work tracking back. I don't think we should underestimate

the nervous tension, and how energy sapping it can be, in a game of this

size. That's good work from Bolasie - back

in the game now. Looking for Dwight Gayle, but that will be de Gea's.

Better from Bolasie, definitely. 2.5 minutes to go. In the players'

minds, you know extra time is there, but you certainly would not want to

lose it just now. Carrick putting it out of play. I think the players are

getting a bit fatigued. Alan Pardew is not going to wait for the extra

30 minutes. Adrian Mariappa coming on. Scott Dann I think with the

problem. The message from Alan Pardew is, go down. Scott Dann has

not hurt his manager. He has been limping for a while. Now, the change

will happen. So Bolasie will have to go the extra half-hour, if it

happens. Yes, and Dann is not happy. He has done something to his ankle.

Alan Pardew has taken the decision out of his hands. Adrian Mariappa,

who has not featured too much under Pardew. He might be leaving the club

when all of this is over. That's it. All substitutions used all-round.

Zaha... Some in the ground thought he had beaten the goalkeeper there,

but it is into the side netting. Well, the defender loses him

completely. From where we were, we thought that had it behind of the

net. Rate power in the shot, just lacking direction. It will only take

one moment of switching off like that.

We have played 4.5 minutes of added time. The clock is well and truly

ticking towards extra time. I don't think he will be making the

penalties list just yet. Just some rousing words of motivation.

We are over the five minutes. How long is Mark Clattenburg on the let

it go? No longer. That will do it for the regulation 90 minutes. We're

going to have 30 minutes of extra time to try to find a winner of the

FA Cup Final. And then it might be penalties. It is the 27th time that

the FA Cup Final has gone to extra time. And it has gone that way

because of goals from Jason Puncheon and a quickfire equaliser from Juan

Mata. Yes, in deed, extra time it is. We

had to wait a long time for the first goal, and then another one

came along almost immediately. It is too tight to call, isn't it, Alan?

Man United have had the better of the chances, hitting the woodwork a

couple of times. Similar pattern to the first half. They showed great

writer after going 1-0 down. But a great substitution from Alan Pardew,

bringing Puncheon on, and it was a very, very good finish. I'm sure de

Gea will look at it again and think he should have done better at the

near post. It was a very, very powerful shot but I think the

goalkeeper should have had it. Good touch to set himself up and a good

finish, but de Gea should do better. Probably a bit too far of his post?

RUUD GULLIT: This was a little bit... You're not happy with that

move, Alan? No. Not that I'm a great dancer myself. Alan Pardew, trying

to summon something up from his troops. It was 100 there to five

seconds, I am reliably informed, in between the two goals. It followed

some excellent work from Wayne Rooney.

DANNY MURPHY: Yes, he has been good, Wayne. This was a fantastic run. He

causes damage in the final third. They get a bit of fortune but they

deserve it. They had the better chances. It seems Man United plays

too much to control the game. All of a sudden, when they have to do

something, it happens. What you're saying is, why don't you start like

that? I don't know, of course they control the game, because the

opposition lets you do so, but you have to do more, it has to be

quicker. Let people do their things, especially the technical players.

Alan Pardew has been here before. Of course it was in the Millennium

Stadium, but in the sense of extra time, West Ham against Liverpool,

all of those years ago, losing on penalties. Manchester United to keep

long time since they have won the FA Cup as well. So much to fight for.

They hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions. Yet they did. Again,

getting Rooney in high up areas, which is bushel for United. At this

stage, they were completely dominant. -- which is crucial. This

was a difficult header, very good header. At this point I was thinking

it might be Crystal Palace cordoned a. Ryan Giggs walking off there. His

experience will be very useful. Mark Clattenburg has taken some criticism

for a couple of decisions in the first half. He's spinning the coin,

as we start the next 30 minutes it could go to penalties. What is

interesting is that they have both used their substitutes. In a true

time, trying to keep 11 on the pitch for both of them could be crucial.

Palace will have the belief. Zaha had a decent chance not long before

the end. I think they will still get a chance. We shall see. Two teams

lining up preparing for the extra half an hour. Let's rejoin Guy

Mowbray. GUY MOWBRAY: It was fascinating to

into the rousing words from the coaches as their players gathered

around. Alan Pardew, quite calm. Louis van Gaal, verging on angry.

His parting shot to the players, as they left to take up their

positions, was, "zero one behind". It will be Manchester United to

kick-start the first period of extra time. It is interesting, those team

talks, you want clear instructions, you want a car manager as well, just

tell me what you need to do and I will go and do it. That is what it

is about now, really, who wants it most. It was very clear from the

Manchester United boss, everyone on silence, listening.

Back towards Wilfried Zaha here! Zaha down, as Blind challenges. Mark

Clattenburg didn't see anything wrong with anything. A very risky

challenge from Blind. The return pass from Bolasie is excellent. Zaha

tries to come back inside. There is a coming together, he and Blind. I

think the referee is right on the spot. This time a good decision.

Mariappa. That is the threat Crystal Palace have on the break. Manchester

United for all their possession have to be very careful.

We have heard that phrase quite a few times this season, Manchester

This is 100% Manchester United possession. You wonder who is using

the most energy here? Palace, in their system, or Manchester United,

in possession? Blind finds Darmian. Shifted it onto the right to cross,

but didn't get the cross right. Its sales behind. Just a bit of

information we have got from the Man Utd medical team, the feeling is at

the moment it is not too serious, as regards Marcus Rashford. Impact

injury, should be OK, is the first diagnosis, which I'm sure will

please the England supporters excited about his possible

inclusion, and certainly wanting to see how it goes in the warm up

games. Wales fans might not be quite so delighted. Nobody wants to see

anyone missing a tournament through injury. Which he might not be going

to yet. Of course, but he is in with a shout. He's only very young.

Jedinak and Fellaini, from the first minute to the last, they have been

in a battle. Fellaini will take it -- Delany will take it for Palace.

Gayle. Young. Seen off by Ward. Indulges in a bout of WWE. Zaha, a

bit of wrestling for him too. That was a plain, old-fashioned push.

That has not been spotted fever. I think the officials are getting

tired as well. It does happen to them, we shouldn't forget them. Well

anticipated by Valencia, just caught the heel of Martial, though.

Somehow, that stayed in. Not the best of balls back towards Bolasie

from Puncheon. Mariappa. Wasn't the best of headers. Rooney. Room left

for Young. A positive run from Ashley Young, but he was forced into

the awkward angle, and he couldn't wrestle the ball back in. Good

defending again, though, from Ward. Somehow, you look at him in

training, I'm sure playing against Bolasie has made him a better

full-back. It is not easy when people are running at you, this time

it is Ashley Young, who by the way should be playing in a wide

position. I can't believe than Gaal didn't do that when he made the

switch when Rashford came off. Just seemed to fall over. Trying to

buy a free kick. Fellaini was under real pressure.

Lingard beaten to it. Free kick given against Mariappa. An ball, the

verdict. Yes, it was. -- handball. Young really is wide,

hugging the touchline. Rooney offers his support. The

chance for Wayne Rooney to shoot here. It's never had the curl. I

don't think it really had the speed, either, had it been on target.

Didn't have the conviction. Waited to take it. No direction.

Sir Bobby would dearly love to see another goal from Hezbollah

Sur Bobby Charlton, incidentally, only won the FA Cup the once, 1963.

Outside left in a team that beat Leicester, 3-1. No, but he won the

World Cup, and we are nearly 50 years now from that great day. That

is true. And he was magnificent in that midfield, wasn't he, along with

Allan Border, Martin Peters. Our finest hour. In football. -- along

with Alan Ball. Joel Ward got a little too close.

Mark Clattenburg managed to hop out of the way so that Lingard could get

the ball. He wanted again, he has got it again. Lingard to Fellaini.

Mariappa 's Mac stopped, and another block. Things it behind for a

corner. It is Souare again. An injection of pace from Lingard,

running off the ball. He is fresh, not long off the bench, and it is

that man, Fellaini, again. Can't turn it into an attempt on goal.

Fellaini is ready to spin and run. There he goes. Daley Blind waits for

that to happen. Two Strong hands to it from Wayne Hennessey. Rooney

late. A decision to make from the referee here. It is a foul, it is a

free kick for Palace. And that is all it is, and Jason Puncheon

accepts the apology. I think it is because it goes over Wayne's head.

He has got his eyes fixed on the ball. Just looking at the ball. Yes,

it's a bit late. Good decision from the referee. You don't want to see a

player gets sent off in a cup final. I don't think that was worthy of a

second yellow, just a foul would do. Three have suffered that fate. Kevin

Maurin, Jose Antonio Reyes and most recently Pablo Zabaleta, three years

ago. Daley Blind has got a bit of a

problem. Think he just took a knock at the base of his back.

It has been a slow ten minute extra minutes of act time. -- a slow ten

minutes of extra time. Frustration creeping in. Out comes the arm.

One of the biggest debates in football, you have got to get your

arms up for that trajectory, but is it legal? He does have a track

record, but he didn't trust anything back towards Mile Jedinak. Correct,

he kind of lead with it. Hit by Bolasie! Fingertip save by de Gea.

That came at him so sharply, and it was hit so very crisply. It is just

a long ball, headed down. Great strike, and reflexes were there. Top

drawer. We have hardly seen him make a save lately. So sharp across the

ground, Bolasie there realising how close it was. Jason Puncheon corner.

Easy for Michael Carrick, all on his own, to head it away. Joel Ward.

Straight to McArthur. A tangle between Zaha and Darmian. Alas it

was Mac cross blocked. Bolasie again. Blind got across well.

Bolasie goes on. This time it is Carrick across him nicely, and he

draws the foul, too. Experience to play from one of the most

experienced players on the park. Who does well there, Carrick. Filling

in. Just gets his body in the way. Just invites the foul from Bolasie.

Bolasie there trying to do too much. Just play it simple to Zaha.

It is fair to say that extra time hasn't been quite as explosive so

far as it was back in 1990. Rooney, he saw a gap. And then the

ball was closed, and Jedinak pumped up, do delighted with himself for

barring the way for Wayne Rooney, who has just got to watch that views

now. He has. It is that determination he has. Of course you

want to see him stay on the pitch. When he is in the mood, he is a top

player. He wants to be Manchester United's hero. Jedinak has had a

real battle in that midfield, with Fellaini as well.

He would have been offside. He was inviting others to chase it but

nobody seemed to want to. Kept in. Great bit of work by

Lingard. Valencia plays it off Puncheon. United's throw. Rare for

him to be lax with his kicking. Manchester United fans are well used

to going the distance. Darmian. More red and blue shirts and white in the

middle. Lurking out the back is Wayne Rooney. Valencia. A chance for

Valencia to hit it. Fellaini went for it, Lingard did too. Puncheon.

Bolasie, he was held back. Chris Smalling on a yellow card is going

to get another. Manchester United are down to ten players. And it is

Chris Smalling who becomes the fourth man to be sent off in an FA

Cup final. Only four in all those years of history. Only ten on the

field for United for the rest of this year's final.

It's that pace of Bolasie which frightened Smalling. In the end,

it's almost a rugby tackle which he makes. He knows he can't get away

with that. It's an early bath, I'm afraid. What will that do to Palace

legs, knowing they have the extra man? Go down to nine, they really do

have a problem. These Manchester United players are going to have to

fill in for that extra player missing. Carrick is going into the

back four. That will do it for the first 15. Another quarter of an hour

to come, a quarter of an hour which has just got a whole lot more

interesting. GARY LINEKER: Just a few moments for

Alan Pardew to bring in his team and try and work out a way of having

that extra man advantage help them conjure up a winner. Alan, not

impressed by Smalling's defending? Until it was silly defending, Gary.

15 yards inside his own half, there's absolutely no way he should

be attempting to scrap for that ball. Just stand off him. He knows

he's on a yellow card anyway. There is no need to get tight at all. It

was really silly defending. Advantage Crystal Palace, Danny?

Yes, but there is a dilemma now. Do they stick with what doing or do

they push an extra man forward? Stick or twist, Ruud? I think stick

with what you're doing. Set pieces, they will have more of a chance now.

I must say that Rooney for me is Man of the Match. He's been involved in

a lot of good things. He tries at least something. Gets away also with

a little bit of foul's committed. But I think he's a good example. I

think Crystal Palace have now got an excellent opportunity to go and get

this FA Cup. They definitely don't want it to go to penalties.

Sometimes you get a chance in life. Absolutely, and they've got one hell

of a chance now to do something. 15 minutes, change your game slightly,

be a little bit more attacking. Otherwise they might just regret it.

Don't forget of course, there's still the distinct possibility of a

penalty shoot-out. Back to Guy Mowbray.

GUY MOWBRAY: Thanks, Gary. I think neither team would really want

penalties. Manchester United have lost their last four penalty

shoot-outs, and Palace have lost their last three. What a chance now

for Crystal Palace. 15 minutes with 11 against ten, attacking their own

loud and proud supporters. It looks like Bolasie has gone more central.

Perhaps he could be the matchwinner. Sometimes, though, it is about doing

less, not more. Trust your team-mates, make the extra man work

for you. It might mean making that extra pass.

Just towards the end of normal time, it did seem as though Bolasie and

Zaha had just found a little bit of energy from somewhere. Here is

Dwight Gayle, who should have plenty. I don't know how they keep

doing it, Bolasie and Zaha, flashes of athleticism, when you think their

game is over. United now, not much experience at the back. Darmian did

start out in Italy as a central defender, where he is now. And they

have got two wingers as full-backs. Although Valencia is pretty much

seen as a right back these days. Dwight Gayle! Can't poke it past de

Gea. That was a better challenge from Ashley Young. Bolasie goes on!

And he has forced a corner. He's like a bull. Great goalkeeping as

well, we have to say. So good with his feet.

Dwight Gayle's reaction is that of a striker who thinks that his huge

chance to be a hero had gone. He might get another one yet. Gayle has

got the ability to pluck something out, with his finishing.

Cleared by Young. Lynn guard is hold back. That has to be another yellow

card. It is a definite foul. I think it is

the thought of having to run 30 yards after Lingard. Mark

Clattenburg has shown the yellow card nine times today now.

Ward has taken his eye of the ball. We can hear Pardew shouting, get

hold of the ball. He wants to punish Manchester United.

Carrick. Lingard's touch to Martial. Good bit of skill! Headed wide by

Carrick! Chance on a plate! Well, Lingard just cuts inside, great ball

in. He times his run brilliantly. His got to get better direction than

that. Manchester United are coming again

in search of another. Valencia beats Puncheon. Rocketed in by Jesse

Lingard. From behind, with ten players, Manchester United have

taken the lead in extra time. Only ten minutes remaining. It's another

super substitute. Well, it's another Manchester United youngster as well.

Valencia down this side, he just storms forward. So much space, gets

passed Puncheon quite easily. And when it comes to Lingard, he's got

no time at all to think about it. It's a thunderous effort. Fantastic

volley oh, dear good as you will see. Sweet as a nut. Outstanding. .

That's the biggest moment of his young career so far. It has got

Louis van Gaal up running and virtually dancing. Look at the joy

on the veterinary Dutchman's face. Great shot, just wide, from Jedinak!

This isn't over yet. Just confirmation that Lingard was

booked. That wasn't too far away, either. I'm sure there's going to be

huge reaction from Palace. All credit to Manchester United.

Incredible finish, fitting to win any match. You called it earlier,

Martin. It is so often the case that players disappointed at the start of

the day can end it on the highest pedestal of all. It is a lesson to

players, keep your head, wait for your moment. The young man from

Warrington has made it 2-1. Surely Palace, with the extra man on the

field, have to throw everything at United now. Yes, you're going to

hang on for dear life if you're a Manchester United player. You're not

Free kick for Manchester United, who will be in no hurry at all to take

it. Just another replay of the goal. Fantastic finish. He would have

dreamt about that, seeing other players doing it. That's his moment.

You've never quite seen it all as a Manchester United supporter. Damien

Souare, misjudgement. The mines are tired, the bodies are tired. It

seems without Connor Wickham to have that long throw in, the players are

Bolasie, claims he was being dragged down. Puncheon weren't quite get to

it ahead of Blind. He has had a good game, Souare. Done nothing wrong.

Jedinak shifted it away before Rooney arrived. Ward with the

sliding ball. De Gea is out to meet Wilf Zaha quite superbly. Let's not

forget the part he has played, the part he always plays for Man Utd.

Brilliant goalkeeping, brave to a fault. Zaha's pace, a breakthrough

favoured, just not holding back, the keeper. He is risking everything

there. It was like old-fashioned goalkeeping. He was having it. It is

that barrier that he creates. Just a handy rest period here for Man Utd.

He's fine. We should remember the goalkeeper played a huge part in

1990 with that big decision Alex Ferguson made. Les Sealey came into

the replay. He sadly passed away just 11 years later, 2001, age 40

three. We will remember Les's family today. One of his successors has had

a storm again. You can't win things without a top goalkeeper I'm afraid.

Manchester United are two or three minutes away from winning something.

Two seasons without a trophy. Yes, the Community Shield in 2013 to kick

off David Moyes's short reign. Not the Premier League, not anything in

Europe, not the FA Cup. Unless Palace can find something even more

incredible than we have seen today, the cup will be United's for the

first time since 2004. A couple of minutes will be added once we reach

30 minutes on that clock. That has hit Jedinak in the face. United

throw. Agony and ecstasy. So unlucky, Palace, at times today. We

talk about the referee, what part they have played. Take nothing away

from Lingard's told. Absolutely stunning. He won't really be

Manchester United reunited with the FA Cup! For a joint record 12th time

it is on its way to Old Trafford! CHEERING

Louis van Gaal's team wins the club its first significant silverware

since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. And it has been won in

such dramatic fashion. 1-1 thanks to a Juan Mata equaliser. Into extra

time we went. Chris Smalling went. Sent off. It looked as though it was

Crystal Palace's cup final to lose. We thought they would storm the

United barricades, but instead it was a lightning strike from Lingard

that has won the cup for Louis van Gaal and for Manchester United.

We are joined by Wayne Rooney down here on the pitch, just going

through the Palace players and saying well played. It took awhile

to get going but it was a great final in the end. Yes, it was. A

great advert for the Premier League. Credit to Crystal Palace. They have

had a tough end to the season, but I thought we worked very hard today,

and our determination, delighted. Try and put it into words for us. We

had every domestic trophy except for this one -- you had every domestic

trophy. It is a competition I have loved watching as a fan growing up,

been unlucky in two finals and I will enjoy tonight, that is for

sure. It has been a while coming. It has been. It is always great, you

look at the fans. It is fantastic. Winning trophies lifts football

clubs, lifts the supporters, and the fans have had a tough few years.

Hopefully they enjoy this and enjoy tonight. I hope you do too. Gaby is

You could argue it was the hero because his goal kept it going for

Man Utd and you looked incredibly frustrated not to be a part of that

extra time but now Julie, I imagine? It is more difficult when you are on

the bench and it is the final. We fought until the end. We never gave

up. We have our FA Cup. It has been a tough season, but we finish with

very good news for the fans. And the player who came on to replaces good

a super goal. Man Utd needed a trophy, it has eluded them for such

a long time. It was a great goal from Jesse Lingard. Today is a day

to enjoy, especially the fans. They had difficult moments during the

year. Today we can bring the trophy home.

before, to get our minds right, but as a substitute you have always got

to be ready and thankfully I was. Let's get a goalkeeper's perspective

on that winner. David de Gea is here as well, what a goal to win a cup

final from your team-mate, Jesse Lingard. Yes, great game, great

goal. I think we deserved to win this final and we have to enjoy it

now. What does it mean to you and Manchester United to do this today?

It is a long time that Manchester doesn't win this trophy. We have it.

People have said you have had to win a trophy this season. Really good

moment to finish with the FA Cup for everyone. We are really happy. Great

season, enjoy the rest of the celebrations. Thank you.

GARY LINEKER: great scenes for the Manchester United players, and of

course their fans, who have not experienced it quite some time. 12

years since they won the FA Cup final. Disconsolate of course, the

Crystal Palace players. Jason Puncheon so close to being an FA Cup

winning hero, but it didn't happen for their particular substitute. It

went of course to Jesse Lingard with that fabulous volley, a golf fit to

win any cup final. Fantastic strike. Great character for Manchester

United after going down to ten men, not only they had a goal from

Lingard but a fantastic chance from Michael Carrick. Dwight Gayle at the

other end had a good chance. But for good goalkeeping again from de Gea.

But they showed great character. It would have been easy for them to sit

back and try to defend and get to penalties but the way they kept

pushing and going forward, they had the character once before the great

goal they scored. Thoughts on Crystal Palace, Danny? Obviously

sympathy, because I have been there, losing a final. It is not nice but

they can be proud of their cup run. I'm sure the fans have enjoy that.

Alternately they did not have enough quality. United have that special

quality in the final third, as we saw with the volley. Unlikely to

them but United deserved it. We saw the referee is going up, starting

the presentation, but just time for you, Ruud, to tell us, do you think

Man Utd were worthy winners? It wasn't a great match. It was

interesting to see, I think that Wayne Rooney played excellent, and

also from a Crystal Palace point of view. In extra time, you train all

week with certain tactics to be defensive and everything. If you

attack all of a sudden when they have ten men, they had more chances,

Man Utd when they were with ten than with 11. So therefore it means all

of a sudden, less concentration. That is where Man Utd scored a goal.

Mark Clattenburg has already gone up to receive the trophy. The Crystal

Palace players are now climbing those steps, a tough experience to

go up those steps after a defeat like that. So disappointing. It is

horrible. They have worked their socks off. Probably didn't play as

well as they wanted to. They still had one or two chances. But it is a

long old walk up those stairs. You have worked so hard from January

onwards to hear. They will be bitterly, bitterly disappointed. It

is a horrible experience. The other thing for those lads, they might not

get that opportunity again. We can hear from the winning manager, Louis

van Gaal. Louis wanted to talk to his players but I would love to grab

a word with you. We saw you celebrate not only the first goal

for Man Utd but the winner. It was a special occasion for you and for

your players. It is fantastic to win this title for the club, for the

fans and also for me. Because now I have won a cup in four countries.

Not many managers can say that. So I am very happy. Were you concerned at

any point that the final was getting away from you, that it was going to

be one of those days? Of course. Of course. Because with ten players,

and we have played Tuesday evening also, but we have deserved it, I

think. Talk about your matchwinner, Jesse Lingard? What about that goal?

A super goal. But we needed it. Enjoy the celebrations. And the

presentations begin. Steve Parish congratulating his players on their

efforts. Crystal Palace fans distraught as you might expect, and

so too many of those players. It wasn't to be. So close. They took

the lead. How big a moment is this for Manchester United, is it a

turning point after a few years of frustration? Their young players,

and Lingard was correct, he would have been bitterly disappointed not

to have started the game, but he took it in the right way. Very much

like Puncheon did, for Palace. Yes, it was a big decision to change

it, from the manager. It worked for him so that he deserves credit. It

was an amazing strike. But yes, the youngsters have been a big part of

what they have done in the last... It has been more like Manchester

United in the last three or four weeks, they have had more energy and

pace about them. But is it too little, too late? Fantastic strike

to win any football match. Personally I think they will have to

invest in the summer if they want to challenge. That is not a brilliant

Manchester United side. They need something in the midfield.

Creativity, pace. Rooney and carrot, they sit back all the time, they

don't go forward to much. But nevertheless, it is still a great

achievement for van Gaal. I am very happy for him, with all the critics.

GUY MOWBRAY: Another enthralling season in the FA Cup has ended as it

started. This, the 735th tie this season. The first one finished

Penrith 1-2 Jarrow, watched wire crowd of 110. Next year's

competition will start in just under three months' time. It is a walk of

joy for Wayne Rooney up the Wembley steps to get his hands on the famous

old trophy. Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick completing their set. They

have won the Premier League, the League Cup, and in a few moments,

they will have all of the domestic winners medals in their collection.

I would not be surprised if Jesse Lingard manages to hurtle up those

steps. Winning in white in a final, too. As they did in 1991 in

Rotterdam in the Cup Winners' Cup. All the players will gather before

Wayne Rooney is allowed to get his hands on the trophy. It is a rather

more sedate walk up the steps for Louis van Gaal, their 64-year-old

manager. Is this to be his final game in charge of United? What a way

to sign out, if that's the way he's going. It used to be protocol that

if you had been sent off, you couldn't go up and get your medal,

but Chris Smalling has joined the crowd. The Duke of Cambridge and

Greg Dyke are enthusiastically dishing out the prizes. A broad

smile on the face of Sir Bobby Charlton, too.

Wayne Rooney is going to be the ninth different FA Cup winning
