Welcome to the first round of the emirate 's FA Cup. Our story starts | :00:45. | :00:52.
here in the north-west of England. The stage is the city of Salford. | :00:53. | :00:59.
It's been written by a famous five, but the tale so far has been drama | :01:00. | :01:02.
all the way. No matter where in the world and whatever level, every club | :01:03. | :01:09.
has dreams. For me and my brother Gary, Paul, Nicky and Ryan, it was | :01:10. | :01:13.
Premier League titles and European glory. 16 FA Cup winners medals | :01:14. | :01:24.
between them. Now this is our dream. We bought a football club. | :01:25. | :01:31.
And it's been... Different! Not everyone was happy. And there's been | :01:32. | :01:38.
a few bumps along the way. Why did we buy a football club? But I | :01:39. | :01:43.
wouldn't change it for the world. Now here we are, the first round of | :01:44. | :01:48.
the FA Cup, against the oldest club in the Football League, Notts | :01:49. | :01:51.
County. They are the ones with all the history. We're just the minnows, | :01:52. | :01:56.
the underdogs. Hard to believe? You believe it. We still have dreams and | :01:57. | :02:02.
we know more than most that dreams do come true. | :02:03. | :02:17.
The owners know their stuff, as Phil Neville mentioned there is quite a | :02:18. | :02:23.
history for tonight macro-birds visitors as well though. Notts | :02:24. | :02:28.
County victory this competition back in the 19th century and have much | :02:29. | :02:32.
experience in their current crop, there is Roy Carroll, who used to | :02:33. | :02:38.
play for Old Trafford -- at Old Trafford. Salford city from the | :02:39. | :02:44.
seventh tier of being list game, taking on Notts County from League | :02:45. | :02:49.
2, three divisions above them. It's a sell-out here from Moor Lane. | :02:50. | :02:52.
Thankfully we have a man here who did not have much of an issue | :02:53. | :02:56.
getting a ticket, Gary Neville is with us to night, alongside our | :02:57. | :03:01.
neutral, Mr Ian Wright. One of the class of 92 and one of the owners, | :03:02. | :03:06.
for those who don't know, of Salford city. Gary, when you and your fellow | :03:07. | :03:10.
friends took over 18 months ago, did you ever think about a night like | :03:11. | :03:14.
this, being promoted, being fought in the division as we stand and | :03:15. | :03:19.
being in the first round of the FA Cup? Not at all. We weren't thinking | :03:20. | :03:23.
about the FA Cup at all, we were thinking about an academy and | :03:24. | :03:27.
improving the first team. Since Christmas, the new managers have | :03:28. | :03:30.
come in and they have been absolutely brilliant. They have | :03:31. | :03:34.
lifted the whole place. The performances have been getting | :03:35. | :03:37.
better and better and the results as well. I still can't believe we're in | :03:38. | :03:43.
the FA Cup first round! This man alongside you, you're genuinely | :03:44. | :03:49.
excited about a night? Yeah. I played in the FA Cup for my Saturday | :03:50. | :03:54.
team. I'm quite buzzing for the guys because this is such an unbelievable | :03:55. | :03:59.
occasion for the guys. I'm sure they will be very nervous but I said to | :04:00. | :04:03.
one of the guys, you've got to be very nervous, this is what it is all | :04:04. | :04:08.
about. Let's remind you exactly how far we are going to find Salford | :04:09. | :04:16.
city. This would be a... For the players tonight, this is a huge | :04:17. | :04:20.
occasion. A chance show them what they are made of. When Gary | :04:21. | :04:27.
mentioned some of the FA Cup medals he has got between him and Nicky and | :04:28. | :04:32.
Paul Scholes and myself, I have got two myself and one loses one, but I | :04:33. | :04:36.
did my job on the day! But the fact is, for us guys we are fortunate | :04:37. | :04:42.
enough to play in a few times and get to the final. For these guys, to | :04:43. | :04:46.
get to the first round, this is unbelievable for them and they may | :04:47. | :04:50.
not get to this level again. Lots of people have seen the documentary. | :04:51. | :04:56.
These guys have had a camera in their face for the last 18 months. | :04:57. | :05:02.
They won't be starstruck, will they? I don't think they will be | :05:03. | :05:05.
starstruck. Their potential failings tonight might be that they are too | :05:06. | :05:09.
ego. When you see some of the challenges that go in at the level | :05:10. | :05:14.
we play at and then we have got a Championship referee, their | :05:15. | :05:17.
eagerness could be a problem. That is what worries me. What about their | :05:18. | :05:23.
fitness? I don't have any concerns about their fitness. They are really | :05:24. | :05:28.
fit lads. The manager has brought in Hungary, passionate lads. They are | :05:29. | :05:32.
eager in the way they play but that can be a bit over exuberant. We have | :05:33. | :05:37.
had a couple of players sent off! It's not just these two to night, | :05:38. | :05:41.
we've also got Trevor Sinclair, who lit up the early rounds of the FA | :05:42. | :05:46.
Cup with his wonderful hat collection last season. He also came | :05:47. | :05:53.
in as assistant manager... It got a bit tasty on the touchline so we | :05:54. | :05:57.
thought we would reunite Trevor with Salford City ointment is. It was | :05:58. | :06:02.
certainly lively on the touchline that day! You have got some presence | :06:03. | :06:09.
in the technical area, is that something you're looking to calm or | :06:10. | :06:15.
is it a case of if it's not broke, don't fix it? We have been here for | :06:16. | :06:20.
seven seasons and so far it has stood as in pretty good stead, Jon | :06:21. | :06:25.
Stead playing tonight... It has stood us in good stead. If it's not | :06:26. | :06:30.
broke, we won't try and fix it too much. There are probably one or two | :06:31. | :06:33.
things to work on and the owners keep telling us that, but so far it | :06:34. | :06:39.
has been great fun. You have had the show Class of 92 and the FA Cup | :06:40. | :06:43.
draw. How has it been to try to keep the players, and concentrated? It | :06:44. | :06:50.
has been difficult, to be honest. We beat Southport two weeks ago and | :06:51. | :06:54.
then we had Matlock in the league on Tuesday night. As much as you try | :06:55. | :06:57.
and make sure the boys are professional, it's difficult to try | :06:58. | :07:02.
and raise your game when you know you have got the FA Cup first round | :07:03. | :07:05.
with the draw being done the night before and Notts County in the first | :07:06. | :07:09.
round. To be honest it has been difficult keeping the lads's feet on | :07:10. | :07:13.
the ground. But they are buzzing, absolutely buzzing. There are one or | :07:14. | :07:17.
two nerves, I would imagine, but more excitement than anything else. | :07:18. | :07:23.
Bernard, you have the Class of 92, probably the most recognisable | :07:24. | :07:25.
footballers of the Premier League era running your football club, does | :07:26. | :07:29.
that add a bit of extra pressure? Yeah, absolutely. How to impress the | :07:30. | :07:36.
likes of the Nevilles, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, we could win 5-0 and | :07:37. | :07:41.
they could still pick fault! But we are learning from the best. They get | :07:42. | :07:48.
involved? If we want their advice they are there and if we get it | :07:49. | :07:53.
wrong, I'm sure they are there to give us a nudge. Thanks, gentlemen. | :07:54. | :07:59.
The Class of 92 appointed those two. Good evening everybody. You can do a | :08:00. | :08:05.
bit better than that! I'm sure they will get cracking once the game | :08:06. | :08:10.
kicks off. Quite a few stars of Salford city, there is the famous | :08:11. | :08:17.
Babs' team bar there and if you've seen the documentary, you will know | :08:18. | :08:21.
these faces. Karen Baird is the club chairman and also Andy is the club | :08:22. | :08:26.
secretary and as a bit of absolutely everything. Karen, how hard has it | :08:27. | :08:31.
been for you to deal with the five superstars who have been involved | :08:32. | :08:34.
with this club? They've been pretty good actually. Easy to deal with. | :08:35. | :08:41.
Gary is the most demanding person I've ever met! But apart from that | :08:42. | :08:44.
they are all down to deal with. Gary is the most demanding person I've | :08:45. | :08:47.
ever met! But apart from that they are all down-to-earth, good lads. | :08:48. | :08:50.
?67,500 plus hot dogs, you can do a lot with that money, can't you? We | :08:51. | :08:55.
can, we need a lot doing with the ground to get as ready for the next | :08:56. | :08:58.
level should we get promoted. That is where most of the money will have | :08:59. | :09:03.
to go. I believe you were a little underwhelmed when you first met Gary | :09:04. | :09:09.
and Ryan, just explain why? I'm a Liverpool fan! But they are great, | :09:10. | :09:16.
yeah. You can forgive us for focusing on the home side tonight | :09:17. | :09:19.
but as we mentioned earlier, Notts County are really a team with a rich | :09:20. | :09:23.
tradition and history. Look at them out there on the pitch at the | :09:24. | :09:27.
moment, actually that is Salford but the Notts County boys are just going | :09:28. | :09:31.
in the blue, there. They are one of the founder members of the Football | :09:32. | :09:36.
League back in 1888. They won the FA Cup six years later as well. Plenty | :09:37. | :09:40.
of Premier League experience in tonight's team, there is Roy | :09:41. | :09:46.
Carroll, and some including him have shared a dressing room with those | :09:47. | :09:47.
Salford owners. Salford city will be at home to | :09:48. | :09:54.
Notts County. I was at the gym and one of my mates told me we have been | :09:55. | :10:00.
drawn against Salford. We have to be ready for the battle. A lot of our | :10:01. | :10:05.
younger players grew up watching the Class of 92 and I think that will | :10:06. | :10:10.
give the game and added buzz. The class of 92 was an amazing | :10:11. | :10:13.
experience for me. I played in the FA youth cup that season, which | :10:14. | :10:20.
obviously everyone knows. Very privileged to play with them players | :10:21. | :10:24.
and see what they've gone on to achieve. It's amazing. For me | :10:25. | :10:29.
personally, I didn't really know much of them until I came over. It | :10:30. | :10:37.
will never happen again, will it? Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil | :10:38. | :10:43.
Neville, Paul Scholes. Best midfield player I've ever played with. Just | :10:44. | :10:50.
give him the ball. He can get from box to box. He scored a lot of goals | :10:51. | :10:55.
like that. COMMENTATOR: Manchester United have | :10:56. | :10:57.
taken the lead! Their I didn't really realise how much of | :10:58. | :11:10.
an impact and a change they had made to the whole club itself. It's very | :11:11. | :11:14.
interesting and a massive challenge for them. Here is Gary Neville, | :11:15. | :11:21.
looking for Ryan Giggs, here's Alan Smith! Brilliant goal. I wouldn't | :11:22. | :11:25.
imagine they've changed in terms of people at all. That is what is so | :11:26. | :11:32.
special about it. After their careers of playing had finished, | :11:33. | :11:35.
they stayed together to do another venture. I never thought Paul | :11:36. | :11:45.
Scholes would even go on TV! I think everyone is looking forward to this | :11:46. | :11:49.
game. But it's going to be a difficult game. We signed 20 new | :11:50. | :11:54.
players in the summer. For any club, it's going to take time. We had a | :11:55. | :11:59.
massive game last week against Portsmouth. Come to the Monday | :12:00. | :12:07.
morning and it is the FA Cup again. Salford and the | :12:08. | :12:11.
Salford have got a big club. The club that we play for now, the | :12:12. | :12:20.
history of it is something we've got to protect. We are proud to play for | :12:21. | :12:26.
Notts County. To say you have played for the oldest Football League club | :12:27. | :12:30.
in the world, it's a big honour. For a lot of them it might be the first | :12:31. | :12:38.
time they have played in the FA Cup, and it will be a nice contrast and | :12:39. | :12:43.
probably a game that a lot of our lads, ourselves included, will | :12:44. | :12:48.
member for a long time to come. They are all ready for tonight. There is | :12:49. | :12:53.
a chat with you -- shot of you having a chat with Alan Smith. I was | :12:54. | :12:58.
just talking to him about what he was up to and was he looking forward | :12:59. | :13:01.
to the game? Looking handsome, isn't he! He is gorgeous! Alan Smith is | :13:02. | :13:09.
gorgeous! Thank you for that insight! We've had a tweet from your | :13:10. | :13:14.
brother Dilip who is working with Valencia, playing Celta Vigo | :13:15. | :13:17.
tomorrow. He wishes he could be here. -- your brother Philip. We're | :13:18. | :13:24.
going to speak to Nicky Butt at half-time but Paul is a nervous to | :13:25. | :13:28.
come out! I think so, yeah! LAUGHTER | :13:29. | :13:35.
Are you nervous, genuinely? I'm not nervous at all. I get nervous when | :13:36. | :13:38.
we play league games because our focal point has always been the | :13:39. | :13:43.
league. The committee, the 14, 15 people who have been working down | :13:44. | :13:45.
here 20 years and giving their all for the club, I've never seen them | :13:46. | :13:49.
as happy. It's the greatest day of their lives in terms of Salford | :13:50. | :13:55.
city. You were telling us about the changes you've had to make for | :13:56. | :13:59.
tonight. What have you had to bring in for the game? The marquees and | :14:00. | :14:05.
we've had to bring stewards in for one of the only times in our | :14:06. | :14:09.
history. The broadcast trucks, the media stuff. It's a big change, a | :14:10. | :14:14.
massive change. The food and beverage requirements are huge. | :14:15. | :14:18.
Barbara in the cafe, they will be doing a lot to night I think! Notts | :14:19. | :14:22.
County also possess a striker who knows a thing or two about scoring | :14:23. | :14:26.
in the FA Cup. This is him last season banging the gold in four | :14:27. | :14:30.
Bradford, scoring in that 4-2 win against Chelsea. They were 2-0 | :14:31. | :14:35.
down, remember. And also in the victory over Sunderland in round | :14:36. | :14:39.
four. Our roving reporter has tracked him down. Thanks for joining | :14:40. | :14:46.
us, John. What is it with you and the FA Cup? It was obviously good | :14:47. | :14:53.
for me last season! -- good to me. Scoring goals and also the run that | :14:54. | :14:57.
we went on. It just obviously brings that famous magic of the FA Cup | :14:58. | :15:01.
which everybody wants to see, the giant killings and hopefully this | :15:02. | :15:05.
evening that won't be the case! Underdogs last season against | :15:06. | :15:08.
Chelsea and Sunderland, definitely favourites this year. How does that | :15:09. | :15:12.
change yours and the team's mentality? You look at the underdog | :15:13. | :15:17.
situation and most players up and down the country have been an | :15:18. | :15:20.
underdog at some point. I think it just takes the shackles off a bit, | :15:21. | :15:24.
you can relax and enjoy the game and anything can happen on the night. | :15:25. | :15:28.
The night ourselves being the favourites, although we know how | :15:29. | :15:31.
difficult the evening is going to be, if we start the game well and | :15:32. | :15:35.
settle into it early, hopefully we can get through to the next round. | :15:36. | :15:40.
It is famously owned by the Class of 92 and there was a documentary on it | :15:41. | :15:45.
last night. This team can get quite physical, how are you going to | :15:46. | :15:49.
handle that? I'm sure we will handle that fine. I didn't watch the | :15:50. | :15:53.
documentary but obviously it is great for the club and the area | :15:54. | :15:56.
itself that those high profile figures are getting involved in it | :15:57. | :15:59.
and you can see how things have progressed at the club. It's great | :16:00. | :16:02.
for the club and the area, the physical side of it, been playing | :16:03. | :16:08.
for a while now, we know all about that, myself, the likes of Smudger | :16:09. | :16:15.
and Alan Smith --, Alan Smith, and Roy Carroll, we know what we can do. | :16:16. | :16:25.
This is how they line up the night. Elliott Hewitt at right back is a | :16:26. | :16:35.
Welsh U21s layer. Up, with Izale McLeod alongside him, 21 goals last | :16:36. | :16:41.
season. Izale McLeod is someone you used to work with at MK Dons? When | :16:42. | :16:46.
he hits that goal-scoring form, he will shoot from anywhere. He's got a | :16:47. | :16:51.
nice touch as well. It's one of those games, if he is up for this | :16:52. | :16:55.
game, he will take some stopping. He's not bad, he's got some good | :16:56. | :16:59.
skills about him. Plenty in that site if writing your lads. How | :17:00. | :17:02.
important is it they get the mentality right tonight? I think | :17:03. | :17:06.
so, one of the things you want to do on a night like tonight when you're | :17:07. | :17:10.
playing against opposition that is superior is to keep the game going | :17:11. | :17:13.
and make sure you stay in the games as late as possible. If you get to | :17:14. | :17:17.
60 or 70 minutes, you are always that one moment away. That is a | :17:18. | :17:22.
worry about a night like tonight against a big team, are they going | :17:23. | :17:26.
to blitz you in the first 20 minutes? That is when the fitness | :17:27. | :17:31.
could kick in, for 60 or 70 minutes, if they are really fit they could | :17:32. | :17:36.
kick on from there. They've got to watch out for the killer that is | :17:37. | :17:39.
complacency... What are you looking up there for? That is our drone up | :17:40. | :17:44.
in the sky! We're talking about football, Mr Wright. You know a | :17:45. | :17:50.
thing or two about your football, but when it comes to running a club, | :17:51. | :17:55.
it's a very different proposition. Millions of people have watched your | :17:56. | :17:58.
documentary about running this club in the past few weeks and been | :17:59. | :18:01.
enjoying it as well, but the road, as you know, has not always been a | :18:02. | :18:03.
smooth one. I need a new oven. Please can I have | :18:04. | :18:16.
a new oven! But a nice man behind the goal and we serve out of there? | :18:17. | :18:22.
Can we not just buy one? I could walk away, don't worry, very easily. | :18:23. | :18:27.
When I think about it now, it were a bit tight to be fair, shoving her in | :18:28. | :18:36.
a van in the car park around the back. Hello! This is my new kitchen. | :18:37. | :18:42.
As you can see it's not quite finished yet but nearly there. The | :18:43. | :18:45.
most expensive cafe in non-league football! | :18:46. | :18:51.
Trouble, trouble... Honestly... It's shocking. I feel like going in and | :18:52. | :19:06.
ripping their heads off, do you? My instinct was just go in and listen. | :19:07. | :19:11.
I felt like strangling them but I never would have done, I never would | :19:12. | :19:16.
have opened my mouth! Players don't hold court in dressing rooms. He | :19:17. | :19:26.
stands up and I'm thinking, he is like President Obama! It's like he's | :19:27. | :19:31.
the president of Salford! You can't interfere. That's what I'm going to | :19:32. | :19:36.
find difficult, because I love the football chat, you know what I mean? | :19:37. | :19:43.
We've bought a football club and we can't talk about football! I love | :19:44. | :19:48.
the shot of you, Gary, in the changing room, holding your tongue. | :19:49. | :19:52.
Let's have a look at the Salford side tonight. Four players in there | :19:53. | :19:59.
with league experience. Lynch at left-back. Danny Webber as well. We | :20:00. | :20:04.
made the call to him a year and a half ago and we wondered if he would | :20:05. | :20:07.
be able to drop down and be stimulated to play at this level but | :20:08. | :20:11.
he has been a beacon for us with his attitude and he has controlled the | :20:12. | :20:15.
dressing room and made the lads think, if he has played the level he | :20:16. | :20:19.
has done and he can give it all, then I can as well. They are getting | :20:20. | :20:24.
ready, a few minutes away from a huge night for them. You were saying | :20:25. | :20:27.
earlier your concern is keeping 11 players on the pitch? I think so | :20:28. | :20:32.
because generally add non-league level that tackling is a lot more | :20:33. | :20:37.
ferocious than in the league and these lads get away with tackles | :20:38. | :20:40.
that I see every week that might be a red in the Premier League game! If | :20:41. | :20:44.
you tackle like that tonight, we could be in a bit of trouble. If the | :20:45. | :20:47.
Championship referee we have got plays the game as he would normally | :20:48. | :20:51.
on a Saturday. But the chance for one of those to be a hero? A very | :20:52. | :20:58.
exciting time for them. People don't realise about the nervous energy, | :20:59. | :21:02.
you've got to stay in charge of that, but they should just go out | :21:03. | :21:05.
and play because it is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, I can't | :21:06. | :21:09.
emphasise that enough. A couple of things to clear up, have you sorted | :21:10. | :21:19.
out the hooky Skybox? It's gone! Also we need to apologise because | :21:20. | :21:22.
one of our cameras is by your normal standing spot tonight! Great to talk | :21:23. | :21:28.
to you, enjoy the game as much as you can. Great to hear that you are | :21:29. | :21:32.
not nervous at all. We're getting ready for this, moments away. I know | :21:33. | :21:38.
you are very excited. Five months ago a team that you like a lot, | :21:39. | :21:45.
Arsenal, won the FA Cup, and our journey to the final this season | :21:46. | :21:46.
starts tonight. We are ready for the first game of | :21:47. | :22:20.
the first round of this season's Emirates FA Cup. The teams are on | :22:21. | :22:27.
their way out. There are millions watching at home and millions around | :22:28. | :22:30.
the world. Let's introduce you to your commentary team tonight, | :22:31. | :22:38.
Jermaine Jenas and first up, Steve Bauer. | :22:39. | :22:43.
Thank you. Welcome to Moor Lane. So much talk about this matter and so | :22:44. | :22:52.
eagerly anticipated. Can Salford provide the end result? They've | :22:53. | :22:56.
never seen a crowd like this. Their last league attendance was just over | :22:57. | :23:05.
400. Tonight, over 1400 are here to see if Salford can produce the | :23:06. | :23:14.
shock. On the biggest night in their 75 year history. A club who didn't | :23:15. | :23:18.
even compete in the FA Cup until 1990 now have the chance to write | :23:19. | :23:26.
their headlines. As far as Notts County are concerned, they are | :23:27. | :23:28.
determined not to be part of them, of course. The world's oldest club | :23:29. | :23:38.
to beat playing professionally. -- be playing professionally. They will | :23:39. | :23:43.
be praying for less drama and a professional night's work. Jay Lynch | :23:44. | :23:46.
is the man that Notts County will have to beat. Formally Bolton | :23:47. | :23:54.
academy. Lewis Hardcastle in midfield is on a youth loan from | :23:55. | :24:00.
Lagan Rovers and Danny Webber is the joint top scorer, over 220 games in | :24:01. | :24:10.
English league football. Familiar face in the Notts County | :24:11. | :24:21.
goal. It is a former FA Cup winner, the Northern Ireland international | :24:22. | :24:22.
Roy Carroll, who is 38 now. Alan Smith has played in an FA Cup | :24:23. | :24:38.
final, his final game for Manchester United. Plenty of firepower up | :24:39. | :24:43.
front, Jon Stead, who got five goals in the competition last season, | :24:44. | :24:47.
alongside Izale McLeod, the former Crawley striker who cost ?150,000 in | :24:48. | :24:55.
the summer. A couple of familiar signings among the substitutes with | :24:56. | :25:05.
famous fathers. Tunji Moses, the son of Remi, an Chris Sharp is the son | :25:06. | :25:11.
of a former FA Cup winner, the former Everton striker Graham. Gary | :25:12. | :25:21.
Neville talking about the importance of the red three tonight and it is | :25:22. | :25:23.
Andrew madly. -- it is Andrew Madley. He | :25:24. | :25:41.
officiated the League 1 play-off final. Roy Carroll came on in 2004 | :25:42. | :25:48.
for Manchester United to win the FA Cup. The Salford the | :25:49. | :25:55.
-- the Salford City captain works nights. Jonathan Stead was big joint | :25:56. | :26:09.
top scorer in the FA Cup competition last season, with five goals. But | :26:10. | :26:15.
before we have the drama, we do have a minute's silence in respect of | :26:16. | :26:19.
those who died fighting for their country. | :26:20. | :27:23.
WHISTLE APPLAUSE | :27:24. | :27:32.
The moment has finally arrived for Salford city. Currently fourth in | :27:33. | :27:35.
the Northern Premier League Premier Division. Against Notts County, 15th | :27:36. | :27:48.
in League 2. 59 blazes between them in the football -- the footballing | :27:49. | :27:53.
pyramid. -- 59 blazes. One moment, one night, could change all that. | :27:54. | :28:02.
That is certainly Salford plus aim. The first time | :28:03. | :28:07.
red and white, colours that the Class of 92 changed after they | :28:08. | :28:14.
bought the club, from tangerine. They will get us off and under way | :28:15. | :28:20.
immediately, with a ball aimed towards Danny Webber. He managed to | :28:21. | :28:27.
get it across as well. He began his career at Manchester United. That is | :28:28. | :28:34.
a throw to Notts County. Jermaine Jenas, you have been on both sides | :28:35. | :28:37.
of the coin really in this situation? I have, it was a while | :28:38. | :28:43.
ago but when we were playing for the -- when I was playing for Newcastle | :28:44. | :28:53.
United we came up against Yeading. In this kind of situation, you can't | :28:54. | :28:57.
win, there is a lot of pressure on your shoulders as the bigger team. | :28:58. | :29:05.
But a good start from Salford. Forward by Howson, one of the two | :29:06. | :29:11.
central defenders. Scott Burton, who will be an important player in | :29:12. | :29:19.
central midfield. That tonight. Stopforth. No way through for Jordan | :29:20. | :29:27.
Hulme. Salford have really settled well, they have popped it around a | :29:28. | :29:31.
couple of times. A lot of people would have expected them to go long | :29:32. | :29:38.
straight up to Webber but they have settled well and not let the | :29:39. | :29:41.
occasion get to them too much. If they can continue that, they can | :29:42. | :29:45.
grow into this game and gain more confidence. I'm sure that's what the | :29:46. | :29:50.
manager will ask them to do. They have to control their aggression. | :29:51. | :29:55.
They do. Gary mentioned that at the start of the show. The referee can | :29:56. | :29:59.
be different at non-league level. But I'm sure they will have been | :30:00. | :30:03.
told that, that they need to maintain their discipline to have | :30:04. | :30:05.
any chance of winning this game. Alan Sheehan, on loan from Bradford. | :30:06. | :30:15.
The Irishman, who was part of that Bradford squad who won at Stamford | :30:16. | :30:18.
Bridge and knocked out Chelsea last season. | :30:19. | :30:24.
Ricardo Moniz is the Notts County manager, experiencing the FA Cup as | :30:25. | :30:29.
a boss for the first time tonight. He arrived in April, the Dutchman, | :30:30. | :30:34.
but couldn't keep Notts County in League 1. He signed 21 players over | :30:35. | :30:39.
the summer to try to change them for Jews. The 15th in League 2 at the | :30:40. | :30:46.
moment, four points off the play-offs. -- change their fortunes. | :30:47. | :30:55.
Harmlessly into the arms of Roy Carroll. One thing that has stood | :30:56. | :31:03.
out from that bit of play is the amount of bodies Salford almost | :31:04. | :31:06.
risked into the attacking third. There must have been seven players | :31:07. | :31:10.
when the ball went forward. Whether that's another style of play they | :31:11. | :31:15.
will bring into the game today. But the ball forward and put Notts | :31:16. | :31:18.
County under pressure. They are at home, they have to go for it. | :31:19. | :31:23.
Anthony Johnson, one of the joint managers. For, the 33-year-old | :31:24. | :31:30.
self-employed wagon driver who is hoping to help lead Salford into the | :31:31. | :31:32.
second round of the FA Cup. This is the seventh game Salford | :31:33. | :31:52.
City have played in the FA Cup already this season. Needed a couple | :31:53. | :32:00.
of replays in the qualifying rounds. They very much want this journey to | :32:01. | :32:01.
continue. Good work from Stopforth. Thierry Audel, who has come in at | :32:02. | :32:22.
left back for Notts County tonight. Nick Barmby's son Jack has been | :32:23. | :32:27.
playing there the last couple of games, on loan from Leicester. The | :32:28. | :32:35.
Frenchman restored to the back four. Salford playing 4-3-3 could really | :32:36. | :32:39.
work. The pitches a lot tighter. They don't want to give Notts County | :32:40. | :32:44.
any space and that was at an example. Roy Carroll would usually | :32:45. | :32:49.
play it out to right back, but because they have three players up | :32:50. | :32:52.
top, it's not allowing them to do that. It's putting County under a | :32:53. | :32:54.
lot more pressure. Kyle De Silva has been recalled by | :32:55. | :33:06.
Ricardo Moniz tonight. No problem for Jay Lynch. The managers were | :33:07. | :33:12.
telling me this week he won them the league last season. 22-year-old who | :33:13. | :33:16.
was in Manchester United's Academy and then went to Bolton. He was on | :33:17. | :33:21.
the bench three times in the Premier League for Bolton Wanderers. Eight | :33:22. | :33:28.
miskick from Edwards. It's important to make sure you have a strong | :33:29. | :33:32.
foundation. The back form a grand goalkeeper are important in any | :33:33. | :33:35.
team. In non-league especially, the last thing you need is your | :33:36. | :33:39.
goalkeeper making too many mistakes. Lynch didn't do that last | :33:40. | :33:45.
season because they got promoted. Gary Neville watching on, Nicky Butt | :33:46. | :33:49.
just in front of him. Paul Scholes as well. Three of the five members | :33:50. | :33:54.
of Class of '92 do able to attend tonight. Ryan Giggs watching from | :33:55. | :33:59.
the Manchester United team hotel before they play West Brom tomorrow. | :34:00. | :34:07.
Phil Neville watching from 2-1 in Spain ahead of Valencia Bosma game | :34:08. | :34:13.
tomorrow. -- Valencia's game tomorrow. | :34:14. | :34:21.
They have 21 FA Cup winners medals between them. Not bad, is it? | :34:22. | :34:32.
Forward from Chris Lynch, the Salford captain, towards Jordan | :34:33. | :34:32.
Hulme. A chance for De Silva to stretches | :34:33. | :34:48.
legs for Notts County. The referee happy for play to continue. Liam | :34:49. | :34:55.
Noble, the former Sunderland youngster. No power generated from | :34:56. | :35:02.
Jon Stead. Jay Lynch has kept five clean sheets | :35:03. | :35:16.
for Salford this season, including in the fourth qualifying round, | :35:17. | :35:20.
crucially, against Southport, the National League team. | :35:21. | :35:41.
Cleared in no uncertain terms by Mike Edwards, who is Notts County's | :35:42. | :35:48.
fitness and conditioning coach. Came back for a second spell last season. | :35:49. | :35:53.
Wasn't supposed to be a permanent fixture, but due to their bad | :35:54. | :35:56.
defensive record earlier in the season, he was called into action | :35:57. | :36:00.
and he's played their last eight games. Some story. Fitness coach and | :36:01. | :36:02.
player. McLeod penalised. Probably lent on him a little bit | :36:03. | :36:18.
too much. He's a big lad, Izale McLeod, and he will be tough to | :36:19. | :36:20.
handle today. Too strong force dead. There was a | :36:21. | :36:43.
deflection along the way and it will be a Notts County corner. The three | :36:44. | :36:49.
owners who are able to attend watching on anxiously. Gary Neville, | :36:50. | :36:53.
just as he did against Southport, has ordered the pitch to be narrowed | :36:54. | :36:59.
tonight. You do what you can to gain the advantage. As long as it's well | :37:00. | :37:04.
within the rules, which it is, you can't blame them for that. Notts | :37:05. | :37:14.
County corner, flicked on by Stead. Salford were mightily relieved that | :37:15. | :37:18.
that effort from Edwards went wide of the target. Even for a | :37:19. | :37:22.
centre-half, that was a very decent effort. He had no right to swivel on | :37:23. | :37:27.
this and got the contacting got. It was bouncing around. That was close. | :37:28. | :37:32.
Thankfully for Salford it just went wide of the post. He has got three | :37:33. | :37:38.
goals from defence since coming into the team, Mike Edwards. The keeper | :37:39. | :37:44.
has got no chance if that's on target. That was a good effort! | :37:45. | :37:54.
Jordan Hulme. Just drifting wide. The 24-year-old. | :37:55. | :38:01.
That's a bullet effort, you know. Because he took its super early, it | :38:02. | :38:09.
caught Carroll off-guard. Probably expecting him to take a touch, but | :38:10. | :38:14.
because he took it so early, he was struggling to get across. The | :38:15. | :38:17.
technique to hit that first time was very good. | :38:18. | :38:31.
Not renowned for sitting down, the Salford managerial duo. Fair to say | :38:32. | :38:52.
Anthony Johnson is the more vocal of the duo. From what I've seen he is! | :38:53. | :38:59.
No huge secret. Wears his heart on his sleeve, but that passion and | :39:00. | :39:03.
enthusiasm was what attracted the owners to appoint them last January. | :39:04. | :39:10.
Danny Webber had gone all the way back. | :39:11. | :39:20.
Back to the management, it can come across like a aggressive and loud | :39:21. | :39:27.
and screaming and shouting, but the one thing I picked up from the | :39:28. | :39:31.
documentary was they were very constructive in everything they | :39:32. | :39:35.
said. You can tell why they've had a huge improvement at Salford. They've | :39:36. | :39:40.
done their homework for this game in a very professional manner. They've | :39:41. | :39:44.
watched DVDs from Notts County outline. Not sure where they got | :39:45. | :39:50.
those from! There's a lot of preparation in a professional manner | :39:51. | :39:56.
from Salford City. They do fancy that they can hurt Notts County. I | :39:57. | :40:03.
chance for Jordan Hulme. Round the goalkeeper... He can't take it. | :40:04. | :40:09.
Jordan Hulme. He does everything right. You're saying, shoot, shoot! | :40:10. | :40:14.
He takes his time, he's composed, but at the final hurdle he loses | :40:15. | :40:19.
control. I think in his mind he wanted to go around the goalkeeper. | :40:20. | :40:25.
The ball is bouncing around. This bit is brilliant. Composure. He | :40:26. | :40:29.
wanted to take it around Carroll. His touch got away from him. So | :40:30. | :40:34.
unlucky. Brilliant chance. I would say they need to be sticking those | :40:35. | :40:38.
chances away usually, but they've started so well that I feel like | :40:39. | :40:43.
they will get more. Jordan Hulme has six goals already this season. He | :40:44. | :40:51.
was the first player ever that Salford City paid money for, from | :40:52. | :40:58.
Ramsbottom. From the managerial duo, their former club. The Class of '92 | :40:59. | :41:06.
to paid ?2500 for his services and because they won the title, they had | :41:07. | :41:11.
to buy another ?2500 so he is their record by. They will have to get | :41:12. | :41:16.
used that, putting their hands in their pocket that not! -- that lot. | :41:17. | :41:32.
17 years of old -- years of age, Hardcastle. On loan from Blackburn. | :41:33. | :41:39.
It was only supposed to be for a month, but he and Salford were | :41:40. | :41:43.
desperate for it to be extended and here he is in the FA Cup first round | :41:44. | :41:48.
at 17. He could have gone to Blackburn, where it's nice and | :41:49. | :41:52.
comfortable, all your home comforts, but he didn't. He said he wanted to | :41:53. | :41:57.
better himself and keep playing for Salford, playing league football. | :41:58. | :42:01.
Thankfully for Salford he stayed because he's obviously been an | :42:02. | :42:04.
integral part of what they are doing this season. | :42:05. | :42:10.
Poole trying to create space. There are a few nerves back there for | :42:11. | :42:18.
Notts County. Rightly so. Every time Salford City go forward, they have | :42:19. | :42:24.
for five players to deal with. They are struggling with it. Salford, a | :42:25. | :42:28.
little bit of composure and somebody will get in. Could it be now? The | :42:29. | :42:37.
17-year-old Hardcastle. Just couldn't generate the power. The | :42:38. | :42:45.
player we were just talking about. Good technical ability from | :42:46. | :42:49.
Hardcastle. Drags it onto his left foot. Just couldn't get the purchase | :42:50. | :42:53.
he needed. Needed to put his foot through it a bit more. Composure, it | :42:54. | :42:58.
showing he can go buy players, but just unlucky with the strike in the | :42:59. | :43:05.
end. First quarter of an hour and Salford will be very satisfied | :43:06. | :43:10.
indeed. They will be satisfied. Notts County have changed their | :43:11. | :43:14.
formation to a 4-4-2. If I was the manager I would be considering that. | :43:15. | :43:21.
Only one thing in Webber's mind. Notts County got bodies in the way. | :43:22. | :43:28.
Elliott Hewitt, the Welshman. McLeod to chase. Howson has been penalised. | :43:29. | :43:40.
That's not a free kick, for me. The number of times this happens in a | :43:41. | :43:44.
game. The centre forward shoulder to shoulder with the centre-half. Goes | :43:45. | :43:49.
over a bit easily. You could say Howson went in too strong, but harsh | :43:50. | :43:55.
for me. When Salford City trained for the last time this week, they | :43:56. | :43:59.
only train twice a week, on Wednesday they spent an awful lot of | :44:00. | :44:04.
time on defending set ablaze. They are aware of the danger that Notts | :44:05. | :44:07.
County have in this kind of situation. The last thing you want | :44:08. | :44:12.
to do is be playing so well and concede a goal from the set piece. | :44:13. | :44:17.
That's why they've worked so hard this week. Every player back to | :44:18. | :44:19.
defend this. Salford can try and build again. The | :44:20. | :44:53.
ball was aimed towards Poole. De Silva put under pressure. | :44:54. | :45:08.
Bora played in the Champions League at the age of 17, for Ajax. -- | :45:09. | :45:19.
Stanley Aborah. One of those 21 new players introduced in the summer for | :45:20. | :45:21.
Notts County. Too long for Jon Stead. That's all | :45:22. | :45:38.
because Salford are so organised. They are given Notts County no | :45:39. | :45:44.
Watsons. Danny Webber dropped into a 5 in the midfield along with Poole | :45:45. | :45:51.
and left one up top. They left Notts County no options. Gary Neville | :45:52. | :45:54.
mention their fitness at the start. If they can maintain this, this is | :45:55. | :45:59.
going to be a tougher game than may be Notts County thought. They are | :46:00. | :46:03.
working so hard to close down the spaces that every time Notts County | :46:04. | :46:06.
get the ball, they can't find anybody. Good pressure from Edwards. | :46:07. | :46:17.
This all adds up. The pressure builds. Notts County keep chipping | :46:18. | :46:21.
the ball out of play and Salford's confidence will grow and the chances | :46:22. | :46:26.
will keep coming. Bernard Morley, the other half of the partnership. A | :46:27. | :46:33.
plasterer by day and joint Salford City manager by night. Angry | :46:34. | :46:34.
partnership! Chris Lynch, the captain. Salford | :46:35. | :46:58.
born and bred. It would mean more to him than anybody else if he could | :46:59. | :47:01.
steer his team into the headlines this evening. | :47:02. | :47:31.
Once again, everybody from Salford City drops back to defend this. | :47:32. | :47:49.
Notts County, incidentally, have an won away from home in their last | :47:50. | :47:52.
nine games. -- haven't. Notts County have two big lads up | :47:53. | :48:20.
front in McLeod and Stead and Salford aware of the second ball | :48:21. | :48:24.
sometimes. The midfielders will have to help out and try to read those | :48:25. | :48:26.
balls. -- those second balls. Odle is away from Lynch. McLeod and | :48:27. | :49:07.
Stead were waiting. Fantastic recovery. Absolutely brilliant from | :49:08. | :49:14.
Howson. I think Jon Stead is thinking this is a tap in. Jordan | :49:15. | :49:19.
Hulme at the other end against Edwards. Fairly routine in the end | :49:20. | :49:27.
for Roy Carroll. It was. One end to the other. The defender, who was it? | :49:28. | :49:32.
I think it was Howson at the back. That is to. Absolutely brilliant | :49:33. | :49:37.
clearance. If you has a bit more composure and belief, his touch | :49:38. | :49:43.
wasn't great, but if he had shifted it to his right he might have been | :49:44. | :49:46.
able to get a better strike on the ball. | :49:47. | :49:51.
Action at both ends here. As this ball comes in, I think it is oh | :49:52. | :50:15.
Halloran. What a clearance. -- Halloran. You can feel he lost | :50:16. | :50:21.
belief in himself. He needed to shift it onto his left hand side, | :50:22. | :50:22.
maybe. Danny Webber is 34 next month. When | :50:23. | :50:46.
you play the 4-3-3, the full-backs for Notts County are very dangerous. | :50:47. | :50:49.
It's difficult for your midfield to get all the way across. We've seen | :50:50. | :50:53.
that in the early stages. First with Hewitt and then or Dell got down | :50:54. | :51:00.
this site and put in a great ball. -- Audel. It is something Salford | :51:01. | :51:03.
will have to be aware of in this game. | :51:04. | :51:12.
Thierry Audel, who reached the fourth round of this competition as | :51:13. | :51:16.
a non-league player with Macclesfield a couple of seasons | :51:17. | :51:20.
ago. He scampered down the left-hand side to good effect for Notts | :51:21. | :51:22.
County. Good work from Poole. Still going, | :51:23. | :51:37.
James Poole. The hero of the last round. No free kick. That was a | :51:38. | :51:44.
committed challenge from Steve Howson! Cleared by Lynch. Picked up | :51:45. | :51:56.
by Alan Smith. Good work from Burton. Lovely skill from Webber. | :51:57. | :52:10.
Two tackles and then one from Jordan Hulme. Neither of which the referee | :52:11. | :52:15.
had any problem with. I'm glad he didn't. Brilliant tackles, both of | :52:16. | :52:21.
them. That's a fair tackle, for me. He's won the ball. There was one at | :52:22. | :52:26.
the start as well, I think it was Dawson flying in. This is what the | :52:27. | :52:30.
FA Cup is about. Tackles like that. No wonder these people are coming | :52:31. | :52:34.
down to Salford to watch non-league football. It's brilliant. Stead is | :52:35. | :52:39.
offside. 32 now, Jon Stead. You played | :52:40. | :52:57.
against him in your career. Not happy memories, actually! We were on | :52:58. | :53:02.
for a draw at a wood bar on his debut. He had just come out of the | :53:03. | :53:08.
lower leagues and he came on and got the winner in the 93rd minute. | :53:09. | :53:13.
Apologies for reminding you. Thanks for bringing that up! McLeod the | :53:14. | :53:19.
offender again. The cafe has been doing extra | :53:20. | :53:31.
business tonight. In fact, they've had to at least treble is a normal | :53:32. | :53:37.
catering orders. I put my order in for a pie at half-time. I know you | :53:38. | :53:41.
have, you're an athlete, you're allowed to. | :53:42. | :53:51.
Hardcastle's free kick. Howson couldn't get any connection on it. | :53:52. | :53:59.
Cleared by Odle. Stopforth was at Blackburn's Academy | :54:00. | :54:21.
until the age of 18. The managers and subsequently players recommended | :54:22. | :54:28.
by the chairperson, Karen Baird, who does a Sterling job with Salford | :54:29. | :54:36.
City. A recommendation for Johnson and Morley to be appointed. Not | :54:37. | :54:42.
looking bad recommendation either. A fantastic recommendation. They've | :54:43. | :54:48.
had to make some difficult decisions as we've seen in the documentary, | :54:49. | :54:52.
the Class of '92 too. That's what they will come up against. Brilliant | :54:53. | :54:57.
to bring them in at the time they did. We've talked about Salford's | :54:58. | :55:03.
potential in discipline. The first man in the book is a Notts County | :55:04. | :55:05.
player, Izale McLeod. Chris Lynch, the Salford skipper, | :55:06. | :55:21.
with the free kick. Won in the air by Alan Smith. | :55:22. | :55:29.
Another thing I've liked about Salford is sometimes when you watch | :55:30. | :55:45.
these ties, almost David and Goliath where you expect all kinds of things | :55:46. | :55:49.
to happen, it doesn't usually happen until the last ten minutes. You | :55:50. | :55:53.
think, why didn't you play like that earlier in the game? They've done it | :55:54. | :55:57.
from the start. Any opportunity they've had to put the ball in the | :55:58. | :56:00.
box and put Notts County under pressure, they've done it. They just | :56:01. | :56:07.
need to get rewarded for it now. McLeod's yellow card was for | :56:08. | :56:10.
persistent fouling. That might worry some of the Salford players | :56:11. | :56:16.
throughout the evening! Here come the team from the Northern Premier | :56:17. | :56:18.
League Premier division again. Webber is onside. | :56:19. | :56:31.
Salford have their corner. Danny Webber has been a thorn in Notts | :56:32. | :56:40.
County's side. He's made all kinds of runs, tracking back, running into | :56:41. | :56:44.
the channels. That was a fantastic run he made there. He wanted to cut | :56:45. | :56:49.
inside onto his right foot. Those constant runs he's making Notts | :56:50. | :56:55.
County just can't deal with. Webber himself will deliver Salford's first | :56:56. | :57:01.
corner of the cup tie. Can it be a productive one? Right on top of Roy | :57:02. | :57:07.
Carroll. No problems for the Northern Ireland international. | :57:08. | :57:25.
Alan Smith had a smile on his face when he went in for that! 35 last | :57:26. | :57:47.
month. Back in the Notts County team in September and he's been there | :57:48. | :57:48.
ever since. A decent amount of possession, | :57:49. | :58:01.
Salford City. If I had to guess, I wouldn't have guessed Notts County | :58:02. | :58:05.
have had more possession. They've definitely not had the better | :58:06. | :58:08.
possession. They might have passed it around the back more, but Salford | :58:09. | :58:12.
have definitely looked more dangerous. The first long throw of | :58:13. | :58:19.
the evening from Hewitt. There might be a Salford opportunity to break | :58:20. | :58:20.
now. Roy Carroll read that situation. I | :58:21. | :58:36.
thought he threw his arm, Roy Carroll. Wasn't happy with the | :58:37. | :58:41.
challenge. Didn't like the challenge from Jordan Hulme. Some smoke in the | :58:42. | :58:48.
corner on the far side. I thought that was my half Thai -- half-time | :58:49. | :58:55.
bygone! Not with the new kitchen Gary Neville paid for! Certainly | :58:56. | :58:56.
not. Stephen O'Halloran, who began his | :58:57. | :59:15.
career at Aston Villa. Won two Republic of Ireland caps at left | :59:16. | :59:20.
back. His manager told me it was strange sometimes when he shouts | :59:21. | :59:25.
instructions onto the pitch and he thinks, hang on, he's played | :59:26. | :59:28.
international football and I'm telling him what to do. You can get | :59:29. | :59:34.
caught out as a manager screaming and shouting, but he knows what he's | :59:35. | :59:40.
doing. Recently played in the Championship for Coventry. Still | :59:41. | :59:45.
only 27. Now a qualified physio in Manchester hospitals. You can | :59:46. | :59:51.
imagine the build-up all week for the Salford City lads. Going into | :59:52. | :59:55.
work, thinking about the big FA Cup game being televised on Friday | :59:56. | :59:59.
night. You know your mates will be watching. That's why I've been so | :00:00. | :00:01.
impressed with them. Scott Burton was dreaming of the | :00:02. | :00:18.
fairy tale moment. He was. Salford have managed to calm their | :00:19. | :00:22.
expectations and play a really professional way. You can tell | :00:23. | :00:25.
they've been well drilled and they aren't over award by the occasion. | :00:26. | :00:30.
Remember, it's a huge FA Cup weekend across the BBC... Football Focus | :00:31. | :00:37.
comes from Willesden tomorrow. You can keep up-to-date with all the | :00:38. | :00:42.
schools on the red button throughout the afternoon as well. -- scores. | :00:43. | :00:57.
Burton and Howson got in each other's way. No problems for Jay | :00:58. | :01:04.
Lynch. He has played in the Football League with Accrington. I'm sure he | :01:05. | :01:10.
harbours ambitions of playing there again. It was a simple pass, that. | :01:11. | :01:17.
If he takes more care with it, Izale McLeod was in one-on-one with the | :01:18. | :01:24.
keeper. Despite the appeals, that is Notts County plus throw. They arrive | :01:25. | :01:31.
here unbeaten in four league games, their best run since Ricardo took | :01:32. | :01:46.
charge. In his own words, he does love a tackle, Scott Burton. | :01:47. | :01:58.
Poole. Salford throw. I have to say, we have seen some unbelievable | :01:59. | :02:07.
tackles in today's game. It is an art that has gone out of the game. | :02:08. | :02:11.
Thankfully we have got a referee who has seen that they are not dangerous | :02:12. | :02:18.
and fully committed and he has allowed play to go on. Hulme kept it | :02:19. | :02:28.
in. Stopforth, a player with great energy, looking for a free kick but | :02:29. | :02:31.
there was none forthcoming. I think he has been watching the Premier | :02:32. | :02:36.
League too much! De Silva improvised quickly. | :02:37. | :02:42.
When you look cannot discount the here, they've got nothing in the | :02:43. | :02:54.
middle to build it up, so their only option is to do that, to go along. | :02:55. | :03:00.
He white players go right up against the centre forwards, and the | :03:01. | :03:03.
midfielders go there. If they're going to get back in this game, they | :03:04. | :03:08.
need to find a way of developing some more passes in that midfield | :03:09. | :03:11.
area and bringing more players into Blake. A touch of class, quick | :03:12. | :03:17.
thinking. He has sent in Hardcastle. He went for goal himself! The | :03:18. | :03:23.
teenager. He ignored the claims of Hulme and Poole. He was unlucky. | :03:24. | :03:27.
Great bit of play from Danny Webber, I have to say. You can't fault him | :03:28. | :03:33.
for having a go at goal. I didn't see any real leer options for him to | :03:34. | :03:38.
square it across the box. The only thing you would say is shoot that | :03:39. | :03:42.
across the goal, the keeper parried it out and you have options. But | :03:43. | :03:46.
good Blake from Salford. -- good play. | :03:47. | :03:50.
The 17-year-old again, Poole, looking for Webber. Tremendous | :03:51. | :03:58.
header from Chris Lynch. Stopforth. Salford Central in that | :03:59. | :04:08.
this is a good spell. Can they make it count? | :04:09. | :04:13.
Stead was held back, there. Oh Halloran knows what's coming. He | :04:14. | :04:36.
does. Normally you would say that was not such a bad foul. But he was | :04:37. | :04:41.
getting himself into a dangerous position and it has allowed Salford | :04:42. | :04:48.
to get back into their shape. The first Salford name in the book is | :04:49. | :04:58.
that of the Irishman. Aimed to Stead. The challenge of Chris | :04:59. | :05:03.
Lynch. He just had to keep his eye on that. | :05:04. | :05:27.
At one point he thought that might be sneaking in, but he had it | :05:28. | :05:31.
covered, he knew where it was going. As we can see, the floodlights | :05:32. | :05:35.
obviously right in his eyes as well, but he does really well, no problem | :05:36. | :05:36.
here whatsoever. Lynch again with the powerful | :05:37. | :05:59.
header. The silver has stayed down after the challenge. To say he is an | :06:00. | :06:04.
uncompromising defender, Chris Lynch, is perhaps something of an | :06:05. | :06:10.
understatement. -- de Silva. He has fully committed, Chris Lynch, and | :06:11. | :06:13.
the referee has allowed it to go on. McLeod is using his strength, | :06:14. | :06:22.
this time fairly. Stead waiting in the penalty area but he couldn't get | :06:23. | :06:26.
any contact. There wasn't much Jon Stead could do with that, to be | :06:27. | :06:32.
honest. He cuts into his left hand side, he does well to win it. As he | :06:33. | :06:38.
comes inside, you think, just try and find your partner, don't just | :06:39. | :06:42.
lash it across the box. I don't know what he expects Jon Stead to do with | :06:43. | :06:44.
that. It is a Salford throw. Ricardo Muniz | :06:45. | :07:07.
looking a bit anxious. Someone you know well from your time at | :07:08. | :07:12.
Tottenham with Martin Jol. I do. Martin Jol brought him in as a | :07:13. | :07:15.
skills coach actually, which was a bit of a -- and ordered job title at | :07:16. | :07:22.
the time. Webber, Lynch with the chance to cross. But he used to do a | :07:23. | :07:29.
lot of work with Edgar davits and some of the other midfielders. It | :07:30. | :07:33.
was fun, you knew he had a lot of interest in the game and he would go | :07:34. | :07:39.
on to management as well. -- Edgar Davids. | :07:40. | :07:44.
Patient from Salford City. In two Webber. He was looking for Hulme but | :07:45. | :07:55.
it didn't quite come off for Danny Webber. Back in again by O'Halloran. | :07:56. | :08:01.
Lynch attacking it. Another crunching challenge from the Salford | :08:02. | :08:02.
skipper. This is aimed towards Lynch again | :08:03. | :08:17.
and let me tell you, Chris Lynch, Salford born and bred, he is a gas | :08:18. | :08:21.
engineer who works permanent nights. The managers were telling me | :08:22. | :08:25.
sometimes it is a midweek game and he doesn't even have time for a | :08:26. | :08:30.
shower, he bashes straight to work. On a Saturday game if it is an away | :08:31. | :08:36.
game, he's only had -- a couple of hours sleep, and yet the coaches | :08:37. | :08:44.
said he is always the best player, he is the current layer of the | :08:45. | :08:49.
year. That is just brilliant. You hear top players talking about | :08:50. | :08:52.
tiredness. Back to Chris Lynch, I mean, the level of commitment... | :08:53. | :08:57.
These managers and the lads are asking for that and that is exactly | :08:58. | :09:02.
why he is the captain, he is the example for all his players to live | :09:03. | :09:11.
up to. I trust he has booked tonight off! Surely his boss has allowed him | :09:12. | :09:16.
that. The way he is playing he might get a pay rise as well! Jordan Hulme | :09:17. | :09:29.
was trying to stay onside. Smith did not get there. Salford continued to | :09:30. | :09:37.
press here. O'Halloran's cross. Away by Audel. Lynch thought about the | :09:38. | :09:45.
challenge. It has broken to Hardcastle. Poole. Good try. Great | :09:46. | :09:51.
play, that, from Poole. Such awareness around him of what is | :09:52. | :09:54.
going on when the ball comes into him. He knows already he has got the | :09:55. | :09:59.
space to turn and get it on to his favoured left foot. We see as the | :10:00. | :10:04.
ball comes in. Turn. So unlucky. So unlucky. A good bit of play. He has | :10:05. | :10:12.
shown today in this first half, Poole, he has got real quality. They | :10:13. | :10:18.
thought it was in! Your former England team-mates. They were | :10:19. | :10:24.
willing that ball into the back of the net. Poole, foul. Wanted to take | :10:25. | :10:36.
the free kick quickly. Notts County might be happy for half-time! | :10:37. | :10:42.
Exactly, you mentioned earlier about the pressure building and Salford | :10:43. | :10:45.
Central blood, they may be disappointed that they have played | :10:46. | :10:48.
so well but they are going in at half-time and not one up. They have | :10:49. | :10:52.
been absolutely brilliant for this first 42 minutes. Lynch with the | :10:53. | :11:00.
free kick, too strong for Houston. -- Howson. It's not just endeavour | :11:01. | :11:05.
and workrate and commitment, there are levels of quality in there as | :11:06. | :11:10.
well. They have popped it around. They try and work it around the box | :11:11. | :11:14.
as well. They need to get that level of finishing up a bit, that level of | :11:15. | :11:22.
quality, and they will get the goal. The Notts County manager looking at | :11:23. | :11:23.
his watch. Here is Webber. Lynch, so desperate to get the | :11:24. | :11:41.
challenge in again. It's a free kick to Notts County. This is a very | :11:42. | :11:46.
important part of the game. Salford need to switch on here and get tuned | :11:47. | :11:51.
in. Get back into your shape and make sure you don't concede at this | :11:52. | :11:55.
point in the game. It's not a foul either. It's not a foul, it's a | :11:56. | :12:01.
brilliant challenge. He has come on the right side of him and won the | :12:02. | :12:07.
ball cleanly. You don't need to be giving that as a yellow card. That | :12:08. | :12:10.
is a poor decision. The referee has had a good game so far but if he | :12:11. | :12:16.
sees that one again he will be disappointed. Jay Lynch organising | :12:17. | :12:22.
his wall in the Salford City goal. The final minute of normal time at | :12:23. | :12:26.
the end of the first half. Liam Noble, the joint top scorer with it. | :12:27. | :12:28.
Straight against the wall. Pace saw one for the Salford player. | :12:29. | :12:52.
Meanwhile this is James Poole. Switching play to O'Halloran. | :12:53. | :13:03.
Flicked in by O'Halloran. Just the 1 minute of time to add on at the end | :13:04. | :13:11.
of the first game of the first round proper of this season's FA Cup. | :13:12. | :13:21.
Terrific defending from Houston. He completely nullified him and stayed | :13:22. | :13:31.
on his feet and watch the ball and won it at the perfect time. | :13:32. | :13:47.
Quietly confident that they could ask Notts County some questions. | :13:48. | :13:56.
Rightly so. Rightly so, they will be delighted with the 45 minutes that | :13:57. | :14:00.
these lads have put in. They have worked hard and shown quality. They | :14:01. | :14:04.
missed a great chance early doors. They should be one up, they should | :14:05. | :14:08.
be at least one up. So many positives to take into the second | :14:09. | :14:12.
half. Notts County second-best at the minute. He will be absolutely | :14:13. | :14:16.
delighted with what he has seen. Jordan Hulme with probably the best | :14:17. | :14:22.
opportunity. Salford have risen to the occasion, they just haven't got | :14:23. | :14:27.
the gold to show for it. At the break, it is Salford 0-0 Notts | :14:28. | :14:31.
County. There you go, a big Friday night in | :14:32. | :14:38.
the FA Cup. We will be with you for the second half shortly. Not much | :14:39. | :14:45.
difference between the sides so far in that first half. It has been tied | :14:46. | :14:49.
with chances at both ends and I think the Class of 92 will be pretty | :14:50. | :14:53.
happy with 0-0 at the break. It has been physical as well, three yellow | :14:54. | :14:59.
cards so far. Everything to play for. Smiles from Gary Neville and | :15:00. | :15:03.
Nicky Butt as well. Let's bring in Ian Wright and Trevor Sinclair who | :15:04. | :15:07.
have been watching that, pitch side. Ian Wright, that was a fascinating | :15:08. | :15:12.
first half. No goals but Salford City well in this game. Absolutely, | :15:13. | :15:16.
I think they've been better in every department really. One disappointing | :15:17. | :15:19.
thing is that I don't think that crowd realise how much their team is | :15:20. | :15:24.
on top in this game, they just need a bit more from them. Java, I don't | :15:25. | :15:29.
think Notts County are up for it at all. I think this is a massive | :15:30. | :15:34.
opportunity for Salford. Salford have won the 50-50 balls all over | :15:35. | :15:40.
the park. I think they have been the better side. Notts County are going | :15:41. | :15:43.
to go in there and I think they will get a dressing down from the | :15:44. | :15:47.
manager. It's impressive they have looked so comfortable on this | :15:48. | :15:50.
occasion. We said we may expect them to be overawed but there has been | :15:51. | :15:56.
none of that. Absolutely not. They have had seven or eight chances to | :15:57. | :16:00.
Notts County plus one. They have not finished their chances and they | :16:01. | :16:03.
might regret that in the second half. Let's talk through some of | :16:04. | :16:08.
those chances. Jordan Hulme, the first player they paid money for, | :16:09. | :16:14.
?3500. He had a couple of good chances. The first one, you can see | :16:15. | :16:20.
the bodies, they are getting bodies round the ball and this, if you are | :16:21. | :16:27.
being overcritical you could say try and lift it to get it to dip over | :16:28. | :16:33.
the keeper. But I think he has done everything right there. This one he | :16:34. | :16:36.
should have taken his opportunity to shoot a lot earlier than he did. | :16:37. | :16:40.
Sometimes in a game like this you are just thinking I want to get it | :16:41. | :16:43.
done. There he has had the opportunity to shoot. And one more, | :16:44. | :16:49.
you will see this one as well, Trevor. He never quite gets the | :16:50. | :16:53.
wrong side of the defender. He hit the target but it is not a hour full | :16:54. | :16:58.
enough shot. The previous one, the toe poke was on. He was nice and | :16:59. | :17:03.
composed in the box. Watching with these do, they both said toe poke | :17:04. | :17:08.
quite loudly! Lewis Hardcastle had chances in the game as well. Really, | :17:09. | :17:11.
they should be ahead, shouldn't they? They should be, and that is | :17:12. | :17:16.
the problem. They are going direct and getting bodies around it. For me | :17:17. | :17:23.
they are hungry there. They are getting on the ball first. It opens, | :17:24. | :17:30.
really good feed. Great feet, there. He is just trying to reach it and he | :17:31. | :17:34.
hasn't quite got it. They have hit the target with them but I like | :17:35. | :17:37.
that, Danny Webber holds it up really well but he is so alive to | :17:38. | :17:42.
take the free kick early. Notts County in big trouble straightaway. | :17:43. | :17:48.
Anything across the keeper, there. Especially through his legs. The | :17:49. | :17:52.
goalkeeper could be massively in trouble. For me just aim for the big | :17:53. | :17:57.
side of the goal there, Dan. The Salford dressing room, do you think | :17:58. | :18:02.
they will be happy there? The two guys managing. They might be, there | :18:03. | :18:11.
will not be any ranting and raving. It is reverse psychology, you either | :18:12. | :18:16.
go in and say they are there for the taking, or you say well done, but I | :18:17. | :18:20.
think they will go for the former. Notts County were not keen on having | :18:21. | :18:27.
a camera in the dressing room and I think it's the right decision | :18:28. | :18:29.
because they will be getting a dressing down. One occasion in the | :18:30. | :18:36.
45 when they gave County players a bit too much space in the box. It | :18:37. | :18:42.
bounces kindly for him. The keeper gets nowhere near it. I think they | :18:43. | :18:48.
deserved that, to be fair. They have been the better team and competed | :18:49. | :18:52.
all over the field. If you asked the manager, he would just be happy they | :18:53. | :18:57.
are in it. I think it's going to be an interesting second half. Great | :18:58. | :19:02.
play from the left-back. Great spin on the player he had in front of | :19:03. | :19:08.
him. Fantastic defending. Super ball. So, they are playing well. We | :19:09. | :19:12.
spoke to Gary Neville before the game and he said he was a bit | :19:13. | :19:15.
worried about the physicality, but the referee has actually let quite a | :19:16. | :19:21.
lot go, Andrew Madley. It has been fruity on both sides! I liked it. | :19:22. | :19:29.
This is lower league football. They are right to do that as well, | :19:30. | :19:35.
Salford. Notts County don't look up for it. Salford City three all of | :19:36. | :19:38.
those and I think the referee has done well to let some of them go. I | :19:39. | :19:44.
think John will be very happy with the commitment of some of the | :19:45. | :19:47.
players going into these challenges. The Salford player definitely wanted | :19:48. | :19:51.
more than Notts County. I hope they can make a goal, get the crowd going | :19:52. | :19:55.
for a start, because I think they deserve it. You feel like Notts | :19:56. | :20:00.
County, they need to get that goal sooner rather than later. My fear in | :20:01. | :20:05.
the second half, some of those lads at Salford have been to work today | :20:06. | :20:09.
and they are going to start to start a tyre. It will be interesting to | :20:10. | :20:15.
look at. We were hoping for some magic and there was some at the | :20:16. | :20:20.
training ground. We sent along Britain's Got Talent finalist Jamie | :20:21. | :20:25.
Raven. How do you pull off an FA Cup | :20:26. | :20:34.
giant-killing? Like an illusion, it takes a lot of talent, a lot of | :20:35. | :20:38.
practice and the odd trick. And suddenly it can become reality. Let | :20:39. | :20:46.
me show you a very simple game. Do me a favour, just look through these | :20:47. | :20:50.
and make sure you are happy they are all different. Would that be OK? If | :20:51. | :20:54.
you're happy, I'm happy. I just need you to say stop, just say stop for | :20:55. | :21:01.
me. Stop. Brilliant, just have a look at that. Someone in the middle, | :21:02. | :21:09.
just say stop. Just check two things for me, I haven't moved anything | :21:10. | :21:13.
else, and that is the same one. I'm not going to lie to you, I can find | :21:14. | :21:18.
this with my eyes shut. How good is your magic these days? Terrible. . | :21:19. | :21:24.
Give me a number bigger than 12, smaller than 45. 22. Do you want to | :21:25. | :21:33.
stick with 22? It's your choice. What was your card? The sex of | :21:34. | :21:36.
hearts. -- the six of hearts. Perfect. Are | :21:37. | :21:54.
you right footed? Could you take off your right boot? | :21:55. | :22:02.
LAUGHTER Guys, many, many, many | :22:03. | :22:04.
congratulations. How did he get that in the boot? | :22:05. | :22:13.
More from Jamie in the coming rounds and plenty more for Final Score to | :22:14. | :22:18.
pull out of the hat as well. This is how you can watch the FA Cup over | :22:19. | :22:25.
the weekend. Welcome to a brand-new Final Score for the FA Cup. We will | :22:26. | :22:29.
be able to show you the goals and incidents as they happen. It's an | :22:30. | :22:33.
equaliser for Portsmouth, 2-2! The team from the Conference North | :22:34. | :22:44.
have beaten League 1 Coventry City! Is absolutely brilliant, what you | :22:45. | :22:50.
want to see. I got a bit overexcited there, must have been the card in | :22:51. | :22:51.
the shoe! You can see these goals tomorrow. | :22:52. | :23:08.
Seven Premier League games for Match of the Day, a bit later tomorrow | :23:09. | :23:12.
because of the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance. All of | :23:13. | :23:17.
Saturday's FA Cup goals will be available on the BBC Sport website | :23:18. | :23:20.
during the evening for you. On Sunday, another special Final Score | :23:21. | :23:26.
featuring the goals as they happen. Highlights of every first round game | :23:27. | :23:33.
on BBC Two from 6:30pm. You can keep in touch with every game on the | :23:34. | :23:35.
website. Time to get some more views on this | :23:36. | :23:45.
match. If you seen the documentary on the club, you will know that the | :23:46. | :23:49.
Class of 92 watch the game from the far side of the ground over there. | :23:50. | :23:55.
Super Trevor Sinclair is with a former England colleague. I don't | :23:56. | :23:59.
need to introduce this young man, Nicky Butt. Great first half, you | :24:00. | :24:06.
are in it. Yes, it was a good first half. The lads did well, I'm really | :24:07. | :24:10.
happy with how they played. But you have to take your chances. Will | :24:11. | :24:15.
fitness come into it? Some of the lads have been at work today, | :24:16. | :24:17.
slightly different from the Notts County players. I hope adrenaline | :24:18. | :24:22.
takes over and they keep going to the end. But it's about taking your | :24:23. | :24:26.
chances when you get them will stop if we take them, we will be in a | :24:27. | :24:30.
good position. I think we were the better team in the first half. Will | :24:31. | :24:34.
they keep playing direct and missing the lines out? I hope so, I think it | :24:35. | :24:40.
is quite a clever ploy from the coaching staff to say get in their | :24:41. | :24:43.
heart and do well and try and score goals. The next chance we've got to | :24:44. | :24:50.
take and that will define the game. Nice to hear the views of Nicky | :24:51. | :24:54.
Butt. Gary Neville and Paul Scholes also hear the night. A man whose | :24:55. | :25:00.
goals got Salford City promoted last season, people have seen you in the | :25:01. | :25:04.
documentary but you are injured at the moment, your media ligament -- | :25:05. | :25:15.
your medial ligament. I think apart from the goal it was a really good, | :25:16. | :25:23.
perfect first half. Pressing high up the page, the tempo has been really | :25:24. | :25:27.
good. You could not tell which one was the higher team at the moment. | :25:28. | :25:31.
After 15 or 20 minutes they consciously slowed the game down | :25:32. | :25:35.
just to try to get a hold on it and try to get a view passes together. | :25:36. | :25:42.
We've just been -- they have been overawed by us. Our tempo and speed | :25:43. | :25:45.
and passion, I think they were shocked. You have worked on | :25:46. | :25:50.
defending set pieces in training but Notts County have not had that many | :25:51. | :25:54.
chances. People might be watching non-league football for the first | :25:55. | :25:58.
time but you are a decent side. Yeah, we don't just a team out there | :25:59. | :26:01.
and cross our fingers. The manager and the coaching staff have | :26:02. | :26:07.
obviously been watching Notts County and you know, we have worked on our | :26:08. | :26:12.
own set pieces as well. I'm just hoping that we can one of those | :26:13. | :26:17.
chances really. A shot of the dressing room. Who are the talk in | :26:18. | :26:22.
there? We have seen you in there having a view to many chats at | :26:23. | :26:25.
half-time and full-time! Who will be saying the wise words in there? To | :26:26. | :26:30.
be honest, it's difficult to get a word in with the managers. All the | :26:31. | :26:39.
lads will be gene each other up. -- geeing each other up. I know it's a | :26:40. | :26:43.
cliche but we have got 11 leaders in that dressing room and we will be | :26:44. | :26:47.
trying to finish the job tonight. You feel the crowd can play a part | :26:48. | :26:51.
in this second half. I was surprised with how quiet the crowd are. The | :26:52. | :26:58.
guy behind me has been shouting expletives but apart from him... The | :26:59. | :27:04.
crowd just need to get them going because I think that is all they | :27:05. | :27:08.
need now. Gareth, one word, one answer, what do they need to do in | :27:09. | :27:11.
the second half, simple as score a goal? I think so, I think one goal | :27:12. | :27:16.
is going to win it. If we get another chance we've got to shoot | :27:17. | :27:19.
early, not let the keeper take another stance, just catch him | :27:20. | :27:24.
off-guard and I think we will win it 1-0. The teams are out, let's rejoin | :27:25. | :27:26.
our commentary team. COMMENTATOR: Welcome back, thank you | :27:27. | :27:51.
very much indeed. Salford have had their say and they are out first in | :27:52. | :27:55.
the second half. What might have been there message in the sulphur | :27:56. | :28:00.
dressing room at half-time? I think, more of the same. -- in the Salford | :28:01. | :28:06.
dressing room. Just maybe a bit more quality in that final third in terms | :28:07. | :28:10.
of striking the ball almost. They have got through but their strikes | :28:11. | :28:13.
at goal have not really had the power you're going to need to get | :28:14. | :28:17.
past Roy Carroll. More of the same, keep working hard and hopefully that | :28:18. | :28:24.
goal will come. Let's hope so as far as they are concerned. Notts County | :28:25. | :28:28.
hoping to avoid all those kind of headlines tonight. They have only | :28:29. | :28:32.
won once in their last seven FA Cup games. Do you expect something of an | :28:33. | :28:41.
improvement as far as the League 2 club are concerned? If the manager | :28:42. | :28:44.
has not looked at that and thought we are definitely the lesser side in | :28:45. | :28:48.
this game today and he would be kidding himself. A lot of that has | :28:49. | :28:51.
come down to the fact that he may have gone with two upfront. It has | :28:52. | :28:57.
been a tough day upfront for Alan Smith and noble. They have been | :28:58. | :29:02.
missed out a lot of the time by the bag four. The three in midfield are | :29:03. | :29:07.
working so hard for Salford, they are making it really hard for Notts | :29:08. | :29:10.
County. Somewhere along the line Notts County are going to have to | :29:11. | :29:13.
try to get these full-backs into the game because that is going to be the | :29:14. | :29:18.
only way they can stretch this three-man midfield for Salford. That | :29:19. | :29:21.
could be something the manager will have spoken about at half-time. It | :29:22. | :29:27.
will be the visitors, 15th in League 2, in all blue, Notts County, to get | :29:28. | :29:32.
us under way in the second half. No from either manager, incidentally, | :29:33. | :29:37.
during the break. Will there be a change in the scoreline? Will there | :29:38. | :29:41.
be another FA Cup story to be written? | :29:42. | :29:44.
Here's straightaway James Poole curling it to the back post and | :29:45. | :29:48.
whether! What a start for Salford City! Less | :29:49. | :29:57.
than 20 seconds into the second half and Danny Webber, their top scorer, | :29:58. | :30:04.
has his ninth of the season, and it could be a Golden Goal! We mentioned | :30:05. | :30:12.
Poole in the first half and he was the 1 causing so many problems. | :30:13. | :30:15.
Notts County switched off for the start of this half and when you work | :30:16. | :30:21.
so hard for it you think get your head up and that is exacted what he | :30:22. | :30:26.
does. He faces him one-on-one, goes by him, that is the quality we have | :30:27. | :30:30.
been asking for, puts it in the right area, and Danny Webber has | :30:31. | :30:34.
done that for years, does what he does best and puts it in the back of | :30:35. | :30:36.
the net. Brilliant. Exactly 17 seconds into the second | :30:37. | :30:49.
period. Danny Webber, who got both goals in the second qualifying round | :30:50. | :30:54.
when Salford City were 1-0 down. Scores their first-ever goal in the | :30:55. | :30:59.
first round proper. And what a start to the second half. We spoke about | :31:00. | :31:03.
what would have been said at half-time, what he would have wanted | :31:04. | :31:07.
from his players. He couldn't have asked for more than that. Exactly | :31:08. | :31:12.
what he wanted. They deserved that for the first 45 minute display they | :31:13. | :31:16.
put in. They've worked hard. I said they didn't deserve to go in at 0-0. | :31:17. | :31:33.
Notts County need to wake up now. They are in a very, very tough FA | :31:34. | :31:36.
Cup tie and they could go out. 19 goals last year as they climbed into | :31:37. | :31:39.
the division above, step seven of English football. His ninth goal of | :31:40. | :31:41.
this season. His most important goal in a Salford City shirt. A man who | :31:42. | :31:46.
played over 20 -- 220 times in the top two divisions of English | :31:47. | :31:50.
football for the likes of Portsmouth, Watford and Sheffield | :31:51. | :31:55.
United. A month ahead of his 34th birthday. As the team from the | :31:56. | :31:58.
Northern Premier League Premier Division in front. | :31:59. | :32:04.
Poole's part in that goal cannot be underestimated. It can't. Work rate, | :32:05. | :32:31.
endeavour, taking the chance, but also the quality we've asked for | :32:32. | :32:35.
from them. A little bit more quality in the final third and he's put it | :32:36. | :32:39.
on a plate for Danny Webber. He was never going to miss. It was because | :32:40. | :32:44.
of the delivery. He's had a very good game, James Poole. | :32:45. | :32:59.
Understandably, the Notts County players look a little | :33:00. | :33:04.
shell-shocked. Right from the restart stop they are. They'll be | :33:05. | :33:09.
wondering who will step up for them. The management will be looking | :33:10. | :33:14.
at the bench and wondering what to do to change the situation. It's | :33:15. | :33:18.
been coming, they've got themselves to blame. They need to step up to | :33:19. | :33:23.
the plate. They've lost every challenge. Salford have won every | :33:24. | :33:30.
second ball. Thoroughly deserved. The owners know there's an awful | :33:31. | :33:38.
long way to yet. -- to go. Three of the part owners of the Class of '92 | :33:39. | :33:43.
two. 112 major honours between them. They'll tell you they get just as | :33:44. | :33:49.
excited watching this time as -- this team as what -- as winning any | :33:50. | :33:51.
of those medals. I've changed my pronunciation of | :33:52. | :34:24.
Salford. It's my Nottingham thing. Apologies to Twitter followers and | :34:25. | :34:31.
all that now all. It's that boy James Poole. Look at that delivery. | :34:32. | :34:36.
They call that the corridor of uncertainty. Nobody knows what to | :34:37. | :34:39.
do. The keeper doesn't know whether to come out, the defendant has an | :34:40. | :34:43.
want to touch it. Danny Webber sticks it in the back of the net to | :34:44. | :34:49.
put Salford 1-0 up. The most experienced player in their team. | :34:50. | :34:54.
Never played in the Premier League for Manchester United. He played | :34:55. | :34:57.
three times in their first team when the likes of Neville, Giggs, but an | :34:58. | :35:04.
Scholes were there. I played against Danny Webber in the FA youth cup | :35:05. | :35:09.
when he was at Manchester United and I was at Nottingham Forest. I was | :35:10. | :35:12.
playing centre half and he did score, but we did win the game. He | :35:13. | :35:17.
was a handful and he's making the same runs today he was making then. | :35:18. | :35:24.
I spoke to him before the game. He says he's not getting tired. He | :35:25. | :35:28.
looks to have just as much energy as he did then. The fairy tale not | :35:29. | :35:34.
within touching distance yet, but all going according to plan for the | :35:35. | :35:39.
managerial duo who got two promotions in three years at | :35:40. | :35:43.
Ramsbottom and then got a call out of the blue from Gary Neville on | :35:44. | :35:47.
their mobile phone to bring them here to Moor Lane. And to have their | :35:48. | :35:52.
part in this latest chapter, which could get even better. | :35:53. | :35:58.
You could see his intention on that occasion. He didn't have the | :35:59. | :36:06.
execution. Again, time in the box, he's got composure. A lot of bodies | :36:07. | :36:10.
in there. He wanted to pick someone out. You could see him thinking, | :36:11. | :36:15.
shifting it. In the end, because it was getting so tight, he thought he | :36:16. | :36:20.
would have a go. It's all positive from Salford at the minute. All | :36:21. | :36:27.
positive. A crowd of 1400 in here tonight. When they began this FA Cup | :36:28. | :36:32.
journey in the first qualifying round against Whitby town, there | :36:33. | :36:39.
were 255. They were within half an hour of going out of the competition | :36:40. | :36:43.
at the very first hurdle. Here are in their seventh match, they lead a | :36:44. | :36:47.
team 59 places above them in their seventh match, they lead a team 59 | :36:48. | :36:49.
places above them is a footballing pyramid. | :36:50. | :36:58.
That's the problem for Notts County. Right there. As the ball comes out, | :36:59. | :37:03.
it's a tough one and you might say he can't bring it down, but even | :37:04. | :37:08.
when he hooks it on, nobody is there for the second ball and floods of | :37:09. | :37:10.
pressure keep coming now. Poole, an FA youth cup winner in his | :37:11. | :37:25.
Manchester City days. Went down. Looked hopefully, shall we say, to | :37:26. | :37:30.
the referee. It wasn't a free kick, wasn't a penalty. He's a handful, | :37:31. | :37:43.
Jordan Hulme. A driver by day. He pins him. He pins him in the box. | :37:44. | :37:49.
There's nothing in that whatsoever. Defender stays on his feet and he's | :37:50. | :37:54.
stronger. To be fair to Hulme, he wasn't complaining, got back on his | :37:55. | :37:56.
feet and carried on. De Silva has a problem for Notts | :37:57. | :38:31.
County. A player released by Crystal Palace in the summer. He's had | :38:32. | :38:35.
enough of those hard challenges from Lynch! He's had to take three of | :38:36. | :38:38.
them. Very, very tough challenges and one of them must have hurt. We | :38:39. | :38:43.
flinch that two of them from up here. -- we flinched at two of them. | :38:44. | :38:53.
A throw to be taken by Stephen O'Halloran, who dropped down from | :38:54. | :38:57.
Stockport in the summer when he got the call to go and have a talk about | :38:58. | :39:02.
coming here. I understand he was met by Ryan Giggs, which blew him away. | :39:03. | :39:08.
The next thing he was a Salford City player. The hosts have a corner. I | :39:09. | :39:17.
think that will get the job done. Giggsy turning up and asking you to | :39:18. | :39:26.
sign for them. Yeah! Salford corner goes short. In from the left foot of | :39:27. | :39:31.
Poole. Away by Smith. Neatly done by Burton. Audel ahead | :39:32. | :39:45.
of Chris Lynch. That time he didn't quite time the challenge, the | :39:46. | :39:51.
Salford skipper. But look at the numbers getting back into the right | :39:52. | :39:55.
positions. Well drilled, looking strong, looking fit. It is a foul. | :39:56. | :40:01.
The ball was given away in a difficult area where Notts County | :40:02. | :40:04.
could have broken. But they nullified it and they are back in | :40:05. | :40:07.
shape and the problem is sorted. I have to mention the three | :40:08. | :40:13.
midfielders. That. I've not seen many players run as hard as they are | :40:14. | :40:19.
at the moment. The Notts County change. Kyle De Silva off and Adam | :40:20. | :40:24.
Campbell, who left Newcastle in the summer. He started the first 14 | :40:25. | :40:29.
games for Notts County. He's on in his place. Played five times for | :40:30. | :40:34.
Newcastle's first team having made his debut at 17. Still only 20. He | :40:35. | :40:40.
will be on the left-hand side for Notts County. In each of the last | :40:41. | :40:50.
three seasons, Notts County have gone out of the FA Cup to teams | :40:51. | :40:54.
below them in the footballing pyramid. None as low as Salford | :40:55. | :40:56.
City, though. Step seven. Neatly done by Hulme. He has a clear | :40:57. | :41:21.
sight of goal. Jordan Hulme! Mightily close to a second. Still | :41:22. | :41:25.
alive with Webber. And then cleared by Audel. That was absolutely | :41:26. | :41:31.
brilliant play from Jordan Hulme. The quality he's shown there. A | :41:32. | :41:36.
little flick to get himself into that position. Composure to cut | :41:37. | :41:40.
inside. So one lucky not to find the top corner. -- so unlucky. The front | :41:41. | :41:46.
three have been brilliant throughout the whole game. Look at this. Cuts | :41:47. | :41:51.
inside like he's not even there. This is a better angle. Look how | :41:52. | :42:00.
close this is. Agonising. He fully deserves a goal as well. Fantastic | :42:01. | :42:06.
play. They thought they had doubled their advantage. Well on top here, | :42:07. | :42:14.
Salford City. They are, but the managers will be aware Notts County | :42:15. | :42:19.
have two strikers that have scored goals in the Football League, a lot | :42:20. | :42:23.
of goals between them. They'll be worrying that if they get one, | :42:24. | :42:27.
they'll put it away. They will definitely want a second goal and | :42:28. | :42:31.
they've just come close to it. Salford are going for the second | :42:32. | :42:34.
goal. They are not resting on the 1-0 lead they have and I think | :42:35. | :42:36.
that's the right thing to do. Good challenge from Dawson. Andy | :42:37. | :42:51.
Dawson, who is the elder brother of Craig, who plays in the Premier | :42:52. | :42:56.
League for West Bromwich Albion. I'm sure he'll be watching and rooting | :42:57. | :43:00.
for his brother tonight. He is at Old Trafford tomorrow, just across | :43:01. | :43:06.
the way, with West Brom to take on Manchester United. They've kept a | :43:07. | :43:10.
few clean sheets this season, West Bromwich Albion. Hopefully that's a | :43:11. | :43:19.
good omen for Salford. Ricardo Moniz deep in thought, the Notts County | :43:20. | :43:25.
manager. His first experience of the FA Cup, as it stands, will be a disc | :43:26. | :43:31.
-- bitterly disappointing one. Nicely flighted from Campbell | :43:32. | :44:01.
towards McLeod. Calmly dealt with by Steve Howson. | :44:02. | :44:08.
Brilliant play. Absolutely brilliant play. It's not just launched | :44:09. | :44:14.
forward, it's played at a good height, wrought down by Poole, who | :44:15. | :44:19.
brings Webber into the game. It's good play. -- brought down. | :44:20. | :44:31.
Sheehan to bring it forward for Notts County, the 29-year-old. He | :44:32. | :44:42.
was the underdog at Chelsea last season in the FA Cup. It's a role | :44:43. | :44:49.
reversal for him tonight. I've been very disappointed with Notts County. | :44:50. | :44:53.
For a team that trains on a daily basis... | :44:54. | :45:00.
They've not been Noble to put two passes together. Technically they | :45:01. | :45:06.
should be better. They train every day. You can't tell the difference. | :45:07. | :45:14.
Salford could be in the same league. Five forward here. | :45:15. | :45:22.
Stopforth thinks he has a corner and the referee agrees. I was mentioning | :45:23. | :45:32.
those midfielders. The midfield three have not stopped running this | :45:33. | :45:36.
whole game. He's popped up on the left wing, the right wing, won | :45:37. | :45:40.
corners on both sides for his team. He looks a bit tired, hands on hips, | :45:41. | :45:46.
but I'm sure he will suck it in and get his energy back and go again | :45:47. | :45:49.
because that's what he's been doing throughout the game so far. | :45:50. | :46:01.
McLeod to bring it forward. The 17-year-old, Lewis Hardcastle, | :46:02. | :46:10.
stopped him in his tracks. No foul by Webber. | :46:11. | :46:25.
Poole played over 100 times in the Football League for Hartlepool. He's | :46:26. | :46:33.
stood out like a sore thumb today, James Poole. Work rate. You will | :46:34. | :46:36.
always feel like he's the one. If there's going to be anything in | :46:37. | :46:41.
terms of quality, he's the one who's going to provide it. He's put in a | :46:42. | :46:46.
real shift, along with all his team. I just feel like James Poole out of | :46:47. | :46:51.
the front three has really shone. Currently studying a degree at | :46:52. | :46:56.
University, James Poole. Still only 25. | :46:57. | :47:09.
No way through for Elliott Hewitt, the Welsh U21 international at right | :47:10. | :47:20.
back for Notts County. His first season from Ipswich. He might have | :47:21. | :47:24.
an opportunity to launch one of his long throws. | :47:25. | :47:34.
It came off a Salford head. Howson. Notts County corner. | :47:35. | :47:46.
These other situations... I think there's a foul. These other | :47:47. | :47:53.
situations you would expect Salford to have had to deal with in their | :47:54. | :47:58.
league. They deal with that one. Wild effort from Audel. Ball coming | :47:59. | :48:04.
into the box constantly, having to deal with long balls and tonight | :48:05. | :48:07.
they've looked comfortable dealing with long balls. It was no different | :48:08. | :48:14.
from the long throw. Jordan Hulme still wondering how he didn't make | :48:15. | :48:21.
it 2-0. He absolutely deserved to. Such a great effort. I don't know | :48:22. | :48:26.
how he gets the shot off. He shifts it and hits it so quick and gets | :48:27. | :48:30.
great power on it. From here it looked like it was going in. We are | :48:31. | :48:37.
right behind it. So I'm lucky. -- so unlucky. Notts County are making | :48:38. | :48:43.
another change. Alan Smith's night is over. Jimmy Spencer, the | :48:44. | :48:51.
23-year-old striker. Six foot four. A change in formation, Steve. It's | :48:52. | :48:57.
been a tough shift in midfield. He has gone up front, actually. A tough | :48:58. | :49:02.
shift in midfield for Alan Smith, almost through no fault of his own. | :49:03. | :49:06.
He's been getting missed out. The defence have not been passing it | :49:07. | :49:11.
through midfield. The ball has been going directly into Salford boss | :49:12. | :49:14.
back from two. In midfield, when the game is like that, it can be | :49:15. | :49:16.
disheartening at times. Dawson a cross with the | :49:17. | :49:31.
interception. Only his fourth game for Salford City tonight. He's had | :49:32. | :49:37.
almost 18 months out. He's worked so hard. He's literally had to rebuild | :49:38. | :49:40.
his knee after a cruciate knee ligament injury. He recently got | :49:41. | :49:47.
playing again. What a fourth game back for him! Chris Lynch just | :49:48. | :49:53.
making sure his boot is back on. Salford free kick. One thing I would | :49:54. | :50:08.
say from Notts County's point of view, I think putting Jon Stead on | :50:09. | :50:13.
the left wing is not a good option. He's always played up top through | :50:14. | :50:19.
his career. Could Salford look at exposing that situation? He's never | :50:20. | :50:23.
been one to be bombing up and down the wing. No disrespect to him, it's | :50:24. | :50:28.
just not the best way to use him. He was the king of the underdog in this | :50:29. | :50:33.
competition last season. A chance for Webber again. Denied on that | :50:34. | :50:38.
occasion by Roy Carroll. The strike is linking up again. They always | :50:39. | :50:42.
know where the other is. James Poole chesting down to Webber earlier, | :50:43. | :50:47.
this time a flick on from Poole to Webber. They really have a good | :50:48. | :50:49.
connection, those two. Howson hit that and the goalkeeper | :50:50. | :51:10.
has to get there. Howson, magnificently, keeps it out! Steve | :51:11. | :51:17.
Howson denying the equaliser for Notts County. There was a point | :51:18. | :51:22.
right here where the goalkeeper is coming out and you are thinking stay | :51:23. | :51:28.
on your line. A recipe for disaster. That is unbelievable. He stays with | :51:29. | :51:29.
it. Chases it down. Hammered away by Jordan Hulme. How | :51:30. | :51:43.
important could that moment be from Steve Howson? The 30-year-old | :51:44. | :51:47.
central defender. He's being required again here and wins it in | :51:48. | :51:53.
the air. Talking at the other end about the quality and the goal | :51:54. | :51:57.
scored by Danny Webber. That's as good as a goal. Brilliant play from | :51:58. | :51:59.
Howson. It's a Notts County corner. It was | :52:00. | :52:37.
so good because a lot of the time in that situation, the natural reaction | :52:38. | :52:42.
in a lot of players is to give up. To say, a mistake has been made and | :52:43. | :52:47.
we aren't going to make it, it's 1-1. At no point did that enter his | :52:48. | :52:54.
mind, he was always on it. What a challenge again. This time by | :52:55. | :52:55.
Burton. No way through for Hardcastle. | :52:56. | :53:08.
Salford are making their first change. It is going to be their | :53:09. | :53:15.
goal-scorer, Danny Webber, who departs. Richie Allen, the | :53:16. | :53:20.
29-year-old community Karch -- coach, is going to replace him. He | :53:21. | :53:26.
got the extra time winner in the third qualifying round against | :53:27. | :53:31.
Bradford Park Avenue. Another player who cost money last season from AFC | :53:32. | :53:37.
filed. Six goals in 13 games this season for Richie Allen. Danny | :53:38. | :53:43.
Webber has been absolutely brilliant today and he deserves a rest. He's | :53:44. | :53:49.
shown that level of quality that Salford have needed at times. You | :53:50. | :53:52.
can tell he's come down a few leagues to play. This is that | :53:53. | :53:59.
opportunity. When he doesn't switch off, that's what I'm talking about. | :54:00. | :54:03.
A lot of players would have said that's a goal, but he said no. He | :54:04. | :54:08.
could have made better contact, but... That is inches away. | :54:09. | :54:17.
Brilliant. Brilliant. Roy Carroll came out. Came out very effectively. | :54:18. | :54:23.
He was caught as well in it to the, the Notts County goalkeeper. -- | :54:24. | :54:30.
inadvertently. Brave from Roy Carroll. James Poole has every right | :54:31. | :54:35.
to go for it, the ball can be won. I think he catches Roy Carroll late on | :54:36. | :54:41.
the leg. He's got every right to go for this, James Poole. He catches | :54:42. | :54:43.
Roy Carroll late on the leg. He's got every right to go for this, | :54:44. | :54:49.
James Poole. He's committed play from both players. He has to go for | :54:50. | :54:56.
it. Roy Carroll does brilliantly for his defence. James Poole is one on | :54:57. | :55:02.
one. Thankfully for Notts County, Roy Carroll is on top of the | :55:03. | :55:07.
situation. The captain is back on his feet. Before Danny Webber | :55:08. | :55:17.
departed, Roy Carroll denied in the second goal. He's made a couple of | :55:18. | :55:20.
saves today and he's had to because Salford have been at it. Tough for | :55:21. | :55:26.
Danny Webber to get it across the goal, but good link up play between | :55:27. | :55:30.
the front two. You would expect Roy Carroll to save that. He got his | :55:31. | :55:36.
angles right and stopped it. No way through for McLeod. | :55:37. | :55:52.
Time is of the essence for Notts County. Inside the last 20 minutes. | :55:53. | :56:01.
Super run from a Bora. Salford bodies in the way, Notts County | :56:02. | :56:06.
corner. Notts County starting to get into the game now. A good run from | :56:07. | :56:10.
Aborah. Nobody wanted to commit the tackle. | :56:11. | :56:23.
Cleared by Lewis Hardcastle. What a mature performance from that | :56:24. | :56:29.
17-year-old. He's been fantastic. We mentioned he's come down from | :56:30. | :56:36.
Blackburn Academy. Young lad. What stands out is what I imagined | :56:37. | :56:41.
before, he wasn't just happy sitting with the luxuries of being at the | :56:42. | :56:45.
lovely Blackburn training ground, playing on lovely pitches, he's come | :56:46. | :56:49.
here to learn the game. It's an education. This will be a huge part | :56:50. | :56:53.
of that he will be able to use in years to come. The owner is looking | :56:54. | :56:57.
more apprehensive. Richie Allen against Edwards. Looking for some | :56:58. | :57:05.
support, the substitute. He's beaten all three of them! Allen again. What | :57:06. | :57:13.
a goal! Richie Allen, the substitute! He has doubled Salford | :57:14. | :57:21.
City's advantage! What an impact from the 29-year-old! That second | :57:22. | :57:29.
round is within touching distance from the team in level seven of | :57:30. | :57:37.
English football. Goal of the season. Give them the trophy now. | :57:38. | :57:46.
That was absolutely phenomenal. Get the ball in the box if you can. Now | :57:47. | :57:50.
you're thinking you are in trouble, you need support. He's the only one | :57:51. | :57:54.
who knows what's going on. Look at that for a turn. Box it in and gets | :57:55. | :57:59.
it back. What a finish that is in the bottom corner. I mentioned how | :58:00. | :58:06.
important he was in getting into the first round. An extra time winner in | :58:07. | :58:10.
the third qualifying round against Bradford Park Avenue. He's been on | :58:11. | :58:15.
this pitch less than four minutes. What a telling contribution. Salford | :58:16. | :58:23.
City leading 2-0. Look at them celebrating. That's why they bought | :58:24. | :58:27.
the club, exactly why they bought the club, for things like that. We | :58:28. | :58:32.
saw the business side on the show, but it's for the love of the game. | :58:33. | :58:37.
For everyone involved, that was a special moment. Notts County looking | :58:38. | :58:41.
for an immediate reply. Terrific block from Howson. | :58:42. | :58:52.
Stead! He didn't get the last touch. Chris Lynch was throwing himself in | :58:53. | :59:02.
there. I can't tell you how well Chris Lynch has done. He's used all | :59:03. | :59:07.
his experience. He's on the wrong side of him, but he knows he has to | :59:08. | :59:11.
get some form of contact on him to stop him. He makes more difficult | :59:12. | :59:21.
for Jon Stead to get any contact. It's now or never for Notts County | :59:22. | :59:26.
to try and rescue this. Spencer's header is well wide. Therefore | :59:27. | :59:33.
hundreds support is behind that goal looking on in disbelief at the | :59:34. | :59:39.
moment. -- 400 supporters. Rightly so. It's been a poor display from | :59:40. | :59:44.
the league side. I don't remember one real bit of quality they've | :59:45. | :59:50.
shown today, or anybody in that Notts County stand. They are well | :59:51. | :59:53.
within their rights to feel disappointed with what the team has | :59:54. | :59:57.
put on today. It's not been good enough. He'll be looking to make | :59:58. | :00:01.
another change because he's got 15 minutes now to have an impact on | :00:02. | :00:09.
this game. Ricardo Moniz talking to his assistant, Dave Kevan. | :00:10. | :00:15.
Just one win in seven FA Cup games. The worse possible script for the | :00:16. | :00:25.
League 2 team is unfolding here. But you cannot take anything away from | :00:26. | :00:30.
Salford City and their performance. You can't, I think that is the main | :00:31. | :00:34.
thing. Usually in these big scalps its down to bad pitches, bad | :00:35. | :00:41.
weather. Another courageous challenge there. A bit of luck here | :00:42. | :00:46.
and there... But today it has come down to, at the minute, Salford have | :00:47. | :00:52.
just been the better side. Long from Hewitt. Campbell could bring it | :00:53. | :01:08.
under control. Notts County corner. Six years ago Notts County were | :01:09. | :01:11.
knocked out of this composition by Kettering, who were then in the | :01:12. | :01:17.
Conference. That was Audel. Another corner. These are important moments | :01:18. | :01:21.
for Salford. The managers will be thinking on the sideline, get | :01:22. | :01:27.
through these next five minutes, because the last ten minute will be | :01:28. | :01:31.
very tough for Salford if not county nick a goal. Handball against | :01:32. | :01:53.
Aborah. A reminder, a huge weekend of FA Cup action across the BBC. FA | :01:54. | :02:04.
Cup Final Score on BBC One. All the highlights from 6:30pm on BBC Two, | :02:05. | :02:07.
and the FA Cup draw is also life for you, 7pm on Monday and that is here | :02:08. | :02:15.
on BBC Two. The first action of the first round and it looks as though | :02:16. | :02:20.
the FA Cup is not going to disappoint, yet again. Definitely | :02:21. | :02:25.
not. I mean, this has been a fantastic game for us all to watch. | :02:26. | :02:29.
The period of the FA Cup is alive and well here the night, when no -- | :02:30. | :02:37.
I know that. The quality we have seen, the goals we have seen. Burton | :02:38. | :02:44.
was in the wake. They have defended so resolutely as well, Salford City. | :02:45. | :02:48.
They have had it's important they don't start dropping too deep. I | :02:49. | :02:53.
know they must be tired, but they need to try and maintain the | :02:54. | :02:56.
pressure on that Notts County midfield. James Poole has a problem | :02:57. | :03:07.
here. I think he has been the best player for Salford tonight. It's | :03:08. | :03:09.
difficult to release single someone else at the moment because they have | :03:10. | :03:13.
all been fantastic, but hopefully he is not hurt too much. I think it's | :03:14. | :03:20.
just a spot of cramp. He has put in so much hard work, a real shift | :03:21. | :03:29.
today, along with Webber and Hulme when he was on. That cramp can hurt | :03:30. | :03:33.
and it looks like a heavy pitch to night. If he goes off hopefully | :03:34. | :03:38.
whoever is coming on will be right and ready. The man who is coming on | :03:39. | :03:45.
is a fitness instructor. One with Football League experience. The last | :03:46. | :03:49.
man to come on was Richie Allen. What an entrance. Wow, what a view | :03:50. | :03:55.
that is to watch it. I hope his friends at home have got it on | :03:56. | :04:00.
record because having one that you can savour forever, that skill is | :04:01. | :04:04.
brilliant. The 1-2 as well, the linkup play, it is good play all | :04:05. | :04:11.
round. To be able to do that in that situation, say give it to me and I | :04:12. | :04:15.
give it you back, and then the finish to top it all off! Is goals | :04:16. | :04:23.
last season prompted Salford to secure his services. -- his goals. | :04:24. | :04:28.
The most memorable goal that Richie Allen has scored to date. James | :04:29. | :04:35.
Poole, whose goal beat Southport in the qualifying round is going to | :04:36. | :04:36.
depart, so here comes Joan Wass -- here comes Joe Mwasile. He got a | :04:37. | :04:45.
trial and they sign him up. Terrific defending, O'Halloran. | :04:46. | :05:15.
Carry on with the game, good tackle, lab, we have one! -- good tackle, | :05:16. | :05:20.
lad, we have won! Elliott Hewitt again with the long | :05:21. | :05:35.
throw towards that near post. Salford allowed it to bounce. | :05:36. | :05:41.
O'Halloran again. Back from Aborah, the goalkeeper backpedalled... So | :05:42. | :05:45.
many bodies back there but cleared in the end by Lynch for another | :05:46. | :05:49.
Notts County corner. These balls keep coming in the Salford box. It's | :05:50. | :05:54.
only a matter of time before one drops to a Notts County player in a | :05:55. | :05:57.
simple position and he sticks it away. They need to somehow get out | :05:58. | :06:01.
of this pattern of playing and get the ball up into the attacking | :06:02. | :06:07.
third. Well, Hewitt is departing for Notts County. Julian Jenner, the | :06:08. | :06:16.
Dutchman, who arrived in the summer after three seasons in Hungary. A | :06:17. | :06:20.
last throw of the dice from Ricardo Moonies | :06:21. | :06:23.
-- from Muniz and Notts County. The referee has done well today. He's | :06:24. | :06:37.
had a lot of bodies in there, a log of bodies, and a lot happening. That | :06:38. | :06:45.
is an inviting one towards Stead. He got a touch. Back in from Spencer, | :06:46. | :06:49.
Lynch with a decent bunch and accurate M3 with the clearance. | :06:50. | :07:00.
That was Stopforth by the way, closing down the goalkeeper. And | :07:01. | :07:13.
he's playing central midfield. I mean, he's not stopped all day | :07:14. | :07:26.
either. Long from Sheehan. Andy Dawson, there is another FA Cup | :07:27. | :07:30.
story. Been out for 18 months, worked so hard, rebuild his name. | :07:31. | :07:34.
Just his fourth game for Salford tonight. It is an injury that I know | :07:35. | :07:39.
a little bit too well as well. He must have some character to beat in | :07:40. | :07:43.
that situation working hard and rebuilding his knee every day. I'll | :07:44. | :07:49.
tell you where he works every day, the Inland Revenue! We had better be | :07:50. | :07:54.
very nice to him! To give him another match! | :07:55. | :07:58.
-- better give him Man of the Match! That is only about five minutes | :07:59. | :08:08.
away... Notts County, the world's oldest club to still be playing | :08:09. | :08:12.
professionally, on the verge of being knocked out by the | :08:13. | :08:15.
semiprofessionals. From the Northern Premier League Premier Division. | :08:16. | :08:20.
Cleared by Howson. Then O'Halloran. Aborah but that was too strong, into | :08:21. | :08:45.
McLeod. We picked out Stead and McLeod at the beginning of the game | :08:46. | :08:49.
for their record and their experience in the league. Salford | :08:50. | :08:53.
City have marked them out of the game. A lot that has come down to | :08:54. | :08:58.
Dawson and Howson, who have been absolutely brilliant. Everything | :08:59. | :09:01.
that has come into the box been headed away. They have not allowed | :09:02. | :09:06.
any balls to come into their feet where they can cause damage as well. | :09:07. | :09:13.
Just collectively, Hulme at left-back clearing the ball... Every | :09:14. | :09:19.
time that comes into the box, there is always an answer to get it away. | :09:20. | :09:27.
And again, this time from Dawson. Aborah. Every Salford City player | :09:28. | :09:39.
back inside their own half. In from Jenner. Too strong for McLeod. That | :09:40. | :09:46.
is what has surprised me most about Notts County. These are professional | :09:47. | :09:49.
players. At some point you think that's not working, let's get in | :09:50. | :09:53.
behind the full-backs. But they keep knocking on the same door and keep | :09:54. | :09:55.
getting the same answer. In it goes again. Dawson is there | :09:56. | :10:00.
again. Hardcastle. It ran away from Audel, and this is | :10:01. | :10:27.
running away from Notts County. And they still can't celebrate, they | :10:28. | :10:33.
still can't relax. 20 months since buying this club. And just ten | :10:34. | :10:47.
months into their time for that managerial duo. They told me they | :10:48. | :10:50.
lost their first game and they weren't sure it was going to work. | :10:51. | :10:55.
But this would be their greatest moment. | :10:56. | :11:05.
Mike Edwards for Notts County. Up towards Spencer. He is beaten to it | :11:06. | :11:17.
by Dawson. This is McLeod. And that's a goal kick. Brave defending | :11:18. | :11:25.
once again. They have been absolutely solid. Any time there has | :11:26. | :11:31.
been any trouble coming down either side, they have covered each other | :11:32. | :11:37.
really well. Patting each other on the back saying well done. They | :11:38. | :11:40.
deserve that, they have been absolutely outstanding. That | :11:41. | :11:41.
tonight. Good pressure from Allen. In from | :11:42. | :12:15.
Aborah. Oh! Lynch lost it but he prevented the corner, though. So, | :12:16. | :12:21.
Jermaine, you look at the scoreline now, 2-0, and you remember that old | :12:22. | :12:27.
saving clearance at 1-0. How important was that? It was a | :12:28. | :12:33.
complete game changer. If that goes in, you can almost guarantee the | :12:34. | :12:36.
pendulum swing the other way into Notts County lost favour, and it | :12:37. | :12:40.
would have done. At clearance at that point in the game, the | :12:41. | :12:43.
importance of it was there for all to see. | :12:44. | :12:52.
Forward from Howson. Aborah. Putting the pressure on Aborah again. | :12:53. | :13:10.
Absolutely, you know, the work rate he has put in in midfield, | :13:11. | :13:15.
Stopforth... Nonstop running. Spencer trying to get to that. Off | :13:16. | :13:22.
the head of McLeod. Campbell. Noble tried the curling effort, Liam | :13:23. | :13:24.
Noble. So, as we head into the 90th minute, | :13:25. | :13:33.
time for Jermaine Jenas's Man of the Match. Well, unfortunately I can't | :13:34. | :13:44.
give it to the whole team! The two centre halves have been brilliant, | :13:45. | :13:47.
but James Poole is the man who really stood out for me tonight. In | :13:48. | :13:54.
the first half he created a lot of problems. He got the assist for the | :13:55. | :13:59.
first goal. He was the assist in Notts County -- the thorn in Notts | :14:00. | :14:02.
County and a plus side until he eventually went off with cramp | :14:03. | :14:04.
because of how hard he worked. Ten G Moses, the son of the former | :14:05. | :14:20.
Manchester United and West Brom player is going to get a brief taste | :14:21. | :14:25.
of the FA Cup first round, next time the ball goes out of play. . They | :14:26. | :14:39.
have played it to perfection today, the management. At the right times | :14:40. | :14:47.
they have told there -- their team to sit off. They have been | :14:48. | :14:51.
brilliant, the management tonight, in their management of this | :14:52. | :14:53.
particular game, and obviously the players. | :14:54. | :15:09.
Short, to Allen. Hulme. Cut out by Jenner. Aborah. | :15:10. | :15:39.
Four minutes until full-time, four minutes until the Salford City party | :15:40. | :15:51.
can begin. It's just a little altercation down below us between | :15:52. | :15:54.
Jenner and Hulme. All a little unnecessary. Roy Carroll has | :15:55. | :15:59.
sprinted right out of his goal to get involved as well. That's the | :16:00. | :16:05.
last thing they want, Notts County, 2-0 down. Just get on with the game. | :16:06. | :16:15.
That's what happened. Jenner with the clearance. And then one of the | :16:16. | :16:26.
supporters... Stupidly did that. That's unacceptable, yeah. | :16:27. | :16:38.
So, Tunji Moses to come on. Lewis Hardcastle. What a night for the | :16:39. | :16:52.
17-year-old. I spoke about the education of players at Salford City | :16:53. | :16:57.
rather than being at Blackpool and he completely deserves this round of | :16:58. | :17:02.
applause. This is a night he will not forget. He will be able to take | :17:03. | :17:06.
this through his career and learn from nights like this. Brilliant | :17:07. | :17:11.
decision for him to stay and I'm sure the management are delighted. | :17:12. | :17:16.
He deserves all the hugs and applause he is getting. Brilliant | :17:17. | :17:21.
header from Dawson and then cleared by Chris Lynch. Salford will never | :17:22. | :17:27.
have seen a party quite like this. In the class of 92... Here is | :17:28. | :17:42.
Mwasile, he might fancy a turn... Very unlucky. You could just feel | :17:43. | :17:49.
that his legs were dying on him a bit as he was breaking through. But | :17:50. | :17:53.
he had a dig, only a minute left, you might as well. | :17:54. | :17:58.
Final minute of stoppage time. McLeod. Campbell for Notts County. | :17:59. | :18:10.
Hammered clear by Chris Lynch. Back to Noble and that just about sums up | :18:11. | :18:17.
Notts County Ladies and in. It completely does. When you are 2-0 up | :18:18. | :18:22.
and someone does that on the opposing side, there's no better | :18:23. | :18:26.
site! You think, you try and hit that coming out of the sky, we will | :18:27. | :18:32.
take that all day. Just run down the clock and seal this historic win now | :18:33. | :18:34.
for Salford. This is Stead. His FA Cup journey | :18:35. | :19:01.
will be coming to an abrupt halt at round one, unlike last season. Here | :19:02. | :19:07.
is Mwasile. Into the final few seconds now. | :19:08. | :19:19.
They are all set. Notts County throw. | :19:20. | :19:32.
FULL-TIME WHISTLE Is a magical moment in history. | :19:33. | :19:39.
Wherever this Salford City story takes them, this is a chapter they | :19:40. | :19:43.
will never forget, and the FA Cup has provided it yet again. The team | :19:44. | :19:49.
that had never even been in the fourth qualifying round of the FA | :19:50. | :19:53.
Cup before this season, the side from level seven of the footballing | :19:54. | :19:58.
pyramid, are through to the second round and they have knocked out the | :19:59. | :20:04.
team 59 places above them. The world's oldest club to still be | :20:05. | :20:09.
playing professionally have been dumped out by the semiprofessionals | :20:10. | :20:14.
of Salford City. Speaking to Nicky Butt before the game, he did say to | :20:15. | :20:18.
me that they fancied it today and he thought they would win today, and I | :20:19. | :20:23.
can see why, now. I can see why. There will be a lot of teams looking | :20:24. | :20:30.
at them in the next FA Cup draw and thinking I'm not sure I want to go | :20:31. | :20:34.
there! Fully deserved. This little pitch invasion they are getting now | :20:35. | :20:39.
and the applause from the crowd, brilliant all-round. Great from | :20:40. | :20:44.
Salford City. What a night and certainly one they will never | :20:45. | :20:47.
forget. The Salford City party can officially begin! Salford City 2-0 | :20:48. | :20:52.
Notts County. Amazing stuff. Warrington set the | :20:53. | :21:02.
tone in last season's FA Cup and Salford City have done it tonight. | :21:03. | :21:07.
Let's bring in two of the owners joining us now, Nicky and Gary | :21:08. | :21:11.
Neville. You said at half-time you thought you were playing well, to | :21:12. | :21:14.
gold into the second half and you are into the next round of the FA | :21:15. | :21:19.
Cup. It's fantastic, just amazing, fantastic for the lads. We got the | :21:20. | :21:22.
award and it's amazing for the fans and the players. Gary, you told us | :21:23. | :21:26.
beforehand you weren't nervous, you had no reason to be! To be honest I | :21:27. | :21:31.
just thought it was a bonus being here, but I thought we were the | :21:32. | :21:34.
better team and an unbelievable effort. Did you think at any stage | :21:35. | :21:38.
that Notts County would have been as poor as they work? Were you | :21:39. | :21:43.
expecting more? No, but that goal-line clearance was a big | :21:44. | :21:50.
moment! They did not play well but respect to them, it wasn't easy for | :21:51. | :21:54.
any club to come here tonight. Nicky, you have big plans for this | :21:55. | :21:58.
club. Let's bring in your goal-scorers, Danny Webber and | :21:59. | :22:02.
Richie Allen. Danny, let's grab a quick word with you. Trevor, you | :22:03. | :22:06.
said to Danny at half-time, go out there and score a goal. Danny, you | :22:07. | :22:11.
are live on the BBC. Danny Webber, hello? Trevor Sinclair said you | :22:12. | :22:17.
would go out and score a goal, tell us about that second half? As we | :22:18. | :22:22.
were coming out we were excited and we wanted to get them on the back | :22:23. | :22:31.
foot a little bit. When it broke to Pooley he said try and get on the | :22:32. | :22:34.
outside of him, so I did and managed to scuff it in. Are you giving the | :22:35. | :22:38.
full credit to Trevor Sinclair? LAUGHTER | :22:39. | :22:43.
I will take some of it! Ritchie had a bit of magic to seal it. Let's | :22:44. | :22:47.
have a look at the goal, let's show you this. This came in the first | :22:48. | :22:52.
minute of the second half. Danny, talked us through it. I just thought | :22:53. | :22:55.
I would peel off round the back. You looked over his shoulder and didn't | :22:56. | :23:01.
see me. I saw Pooley and I just thought, be there, be there. Two | :23:02. | :23:08.
yards out. The defender is the wrong side. What Danny has done is keep | :23:09. | :23:12.
the defender away from him. He just needed Pooley to put in a decent | :23:13. | :23:17.
ball and he has done it. Perfect time to score. That was an important | :23:18. | :23:22.
goal, but the other fellow we have got with us here scored a pretty | :23:23. | :23:27.
decent one! Richie Allen, when you came on in the 68th minute, talked | :23:28. | :23:31.
us through your thoughts when you came on the pitch? To be honest I | :23:32. | :23:34.
just thought if we can still win the game, and if I could make a | :23:35. | :23:39.
difference I would be really happy. At one stage I thought you had held | :23:40. | :23:46.
onto it for too long? In the corner, I have like, still got hold of the | :23:47. | :23:50.
ball. I was thinking I'm going to lose control of the ball here, but I | :23:51. | :23:55.
kept my composure. I thought to myself, someone has got to back him | :23:56. | :24:03.
up now. And then I do this! That is amazing, that is awesome. Great | :24:04. | :24:10.
stuff. I tried my best! I said when you came out I have seen him and he | :24:11. | :24:16.
can play. Have a look at him. And then you did this! Not bad, not bad. | :24:17. | :24:23.
Danny, put it into perspective for us. How important is this for the | :24:24. | :24:28.
club and the players and the fans? You can see how happy everybody is. | :24:29. | :24:32.
The whole community has come out tonight and supported us. We are | :24:33. | :24:36.
grateful for that but just to be in the next round, having played a | :24:37. | :24:38.
League 2 team, everyone is delighted. I know it's about goals | :24:39. | :24:43.
and goals win games but we have to talk about that save off the line | :24:44. | :24:49.
from Houston. Gentlemen, thank you for coming on, Anthony Johnson and | :24:50. | :24:53.
Bernard Morley. These two guys have scored the goals but Anthony, the | :24:54. | :24:56.
clearance off the line from Houston was as crucial as the goals? | :24:57. | :25:02.
Unbelievable clearance, I thought it was his fault to start with! But for | :25:03. | :25:06.
someone like him to get that clearance, brilliant. I know the | :25:07. | :25:12.
club have got huge plans. We've spoken to Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, | :25:13. | :25:15.
Paul Scholes. But it's nights like this that really make a club. | :25:16. | :25:19.
Absolutely, once-in-a-lifetime stuff. We have come up against a top | :25:20. | :25:24.
draw side and we battered them, in all honesty. I don't want to sound | :25:25. | :25:28.
disrespectful but we've been excellent. I said before the game we | :25:29. | :25:32.
would match them for work rate, that is one thing we would do. The effort | :25:33. | :25:35.
they put in is absolutely staggering, staggering. When you | :25:36. | :25:40.
look into the players's eyes, did you get the feeling that this would | :25:41. | :25:43.
be a night when the mentality would be right and they could deliver a | :25:44. | :25:47.
performance like that? We always knew that if our concentration | :25:48. | :25:49.
levels were right we would match anybody. To be honest, I thought we | :25:50. | :25:54.
matched them for 90 minutes and we were the better side. I don't think | :25:55. | :26:01.
they put us under pressure at all. I thought the back five was immense | :26:02. | :26:05.
from start to finish. A magical touch won us the game. Gentlemen, | :26:06. | :26:09.
get out there to buy congratulations. Ian, will we talk | :26:10. | :26:15.
about this as one of the great cup upsets, even though they were | :26:16. | :26:20.
comfortable tonight? It's an upset of course but like I say, you have | :26:21. | :26:24.
to say with Salford, they have to get all the credit. Right from the | :26:25. | :26:27.
start I thought there might have been a problem with their fitness | :26:28. | :26:31.
but nothing of the sword. They won all the second balls. They were | :26:32. | :26:35.
aggressive from the start to the finish and they deserve it really. | :26:36. | :26:38.
Anyone would have thought Salford worthy league team. They deserved | :26:39. | :26:43.
it, they were superb. -- were the league team. Some of them have been | :26:44. | :26:48.
out at work today! It's absolutely brilliant for non-league football. | :26:49. | :26:53.
They can enjoy themselves and why not? They are the first team into | :26:54. | :26:57.
the second round of the FA Cup. It's the first time they've got to this | :26:58. | :27:01.
round. For them to get through with that kind of attitude and | :27:02. | :27:04.
willingness and passion in the team, to a man, it was refreshing to | :27:05. | :27:09.
see. I haven't seen it for a long time, to be honest. So comfortable | :27:10. | :27:14.
as well, not like it was a fluke and they were under the cosh the whole | :27:15. | :27:18.
time. They created more chances than Notts County and they deserved the | :27:19. | :27:24.
win. We will have some reaction from Notts County and their manager on | :27:25. | :27:27.
the website, but tonight is all about Salford City. Just a reminder | :27:28. | :27:31.
for you all of where you can watch the rest of the FA Cup coverage this | :27:32. | :27:35.
weekend, because there is plenty more football on the way for you. | :27:36. | :27:37.
Nine football shows in total. This lot have set the tone, haven't | :27:38. | :27:42.
they? Catch up with everything on the | :27:43. | :27:52.
website and all the Premier League is covered in Match of the Day. | :27:53. | :28:03.
Match of the Day to will finish the weekend off nicely. Don't forget the | :28:04. | :28:11.
draw for round two is on Monday night at 7pm on BBC Two. You know | :28:12. | :28:16.
what? There is one team in it already. They are Salford City. The | :28:17. | :28:21.
FA Cup has delivered again. Good night. | :28:22. | :28:23.
COMMENTATOR: 59 places between them. One game, one night. | :28:24. | :28:31.
Didn't clear it... Good effort. Here is a chance for Hulme... James Poole | :28:32. | :28:47.
curling it to the back post! Less than 20 seconds into the second | :28:48. | :28:53.
half! Still Jordan Hulme! Mightily close. Magnificent. What a goal! A | :28:54. | :29:01.
magical moment in | :29:02. | :29:02. |
