Shrewsbury Town beaten teams five

times from the top flight. They lost

to Leicester, and a certain striker.

Not him! In 97 years, they played at

this stadium but they never lost

many bowls.

and they smell another cup upset.

David Moyes actually played for a

Shrews brief or three seasons in the

80s. In these parts he is most

remembered for being Everton manager

when they suffered a huge shock 15

years ago. West Ham are in a Premier

League relegation battle. Shrewsbury

Town arguably been the team of the

season so far. They have a capacity

of just under 10,000. It is a

sell-out and we are hoping for a big

atmosphere. Warm welcome to Ian

Wright and Alan Shearer. They've got

a record of causing upsets. As the

one on the cards today?

It would not

surprise me. Paul Hurst is doing a

magnificent job. They were

favourites for relegation. There are

tough team to break down. Only City

and Wigan have conceded less goals

to West Ham will have a tough game.

We've been to places like this and

difficult games against lower league

opposition.

I remember we went down

to play Yeovil Town. You get those

nerves. All the press came. We beat

them three Nell and I scored a

hat-trick.

the people at home the facts. It is

nervousness. You need to get the

point you see them off.

Lets have a

look at the team news. Paul Hurst

was given a boost when Manchester

United gave permission for Dean

Anderson to play. It's a defence

Nolan has seen him linked with a

transfer to Championship clubs.

Ayew the upfront. I suppose what

sticks out, he's gone with as strong

line-up as he's got available to

him. I'm pleased he's done that.

It's for West Ham. The FA Cup, a

good run in it, is vital for West

Ham. They've got some decent players

in the line-up. Obviously because

they are going so well in the

league.

They are second in League 1.

They're a tough team to beat they

fancy their chances. It will be a

fantastic atmosphere. It should be

really interesting. Big test.

struggling and they eventually

it's a left footer. Maybe the keeper

was thinking the same.

I didn't see

They certainly

didn't.

It's gone in. It is him

again. Shrewsbury have surely done

it.

Fantastic. The supporters have

witnessed that. It was fantastic.

I just

thought it was cause I was

knackered.

blown. What a game. Victory against

his old team. What was that feeling

like? Being the ex-captain and you

knock your own team out?

It was

good.

He wanted a replay. I was

delighted for the gaffer. It was

fantastic for him to do that to his

beloved Everton.

Two real characters

on a different pitch to this one.

surfaces like that.

will help West Ham. When you're

playing on a bobbly pitch, you

cannot get into your rhythm, that is

where a lower side can take

advantage.

took over, they were born. Now they

are second, on a very good run.

There are very fit team. They work

so hard. Very good goalkeeper behind

them.

It's quite a nice story with

the goalkeeper. Manchester United

have allowed him to play.

It was a

big? As to whether they would let

him play. He only had clearance to

play late on Friday afternoon.

That's great news for them. He will

need to play his part today because

I'm sure that the defence of players

are going to be tested.

For those

who do not know too much about

Shrewsbury Town and who else should

we look out for?

You mention John

Nolan. He is having a fantastic

season. Five goals in midfield. He's

been linked with Norwich. They are

desperate to get him. The club have

said he's not for sale. He's having

a very good season with them.

And

you've got Whalley. Where are's

Whalley? There he is.

He has given

up taking penalties because he's

missed the last couple but he's one

of their go-to guys. He wants to be

people. I think he'll be excited for

this game today. I think the

atmosphere will be very good. He was

to take people on. He's not bothered

about being faced up. He's got him

isolated. That's what he's capable

of. West Ham will need to be on the

guard. They will be a great

atmosphere and they are informed.

That's why

you're here. We hope so but we know

that we will need to be at our best.

What have

you done to turn things round? You

started as one of the favourites for

relegation.

A lot of things have

fallen into place. First it is the

players. They've worked extremely

hard. The performances, the

commitment they've shown at an

excellent and we hope to show that

today.

Shrewsbury holds very many

memories as a player, not too good

as a manager. What are your

feelings?

I'm delighted to be back,

it was a great place to live, we

really enjoyed it. Obviously I came

back with Everton and we lost in the

FA Cup. I've not been at the new

stadium so I'm looking forward to

it.

A dilemma over a team selection

We are

playing everyone we have available.

are fortunate we have these number-1

goalkeepers. He is back at his old

team. We thought he would be ready

matches per Shrewsbury before

signing for Manchester City and he

It is the town I grew up in and went

to school in and the first

opportunity I got in football.

Before the rivalry starts, I just

want to say how grateful I am to the

town and I'm really looking forward

lucky to travel the world of

football and do things I never dream

coming from him. It has been a tough

spell for the lad.

Very tough. He's

back to where it all began. He is

struggling for form. Been left out.

If he has aspirations of getting

back to where he wants to be, number

one for England, starting from

today, he's got to start and perform

better than he has been when he's

been in the first team. Too many

mistakes. That was his last league

game. Slow off his line. He commits

and gives the penalty away. Another

mistake, got to do better. When

you're having a tough time and you

get punished with mistakes like

that, but that ball should be in the

last rule. It should not be back

into the middle of the field. Gareth

Southgate has been very loyal to him

but regardless of his experience

he's got to play. If he doesn't then

he will be going to the World Cup.

The number one spot is up for grabs.

I think so. Even yesterday, we saw

Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland,

conceding goals you're thinking they

should be doing better with. If he

can get back in the first team, it

is not like they are clearing up

trees. It is therefore him. Fingers

crossed.

I'm sure you just saw the

clip that Newport are leading Leeds

2-1. What is the essential thing for

a club like West Ham?

Silenced the

crowd. We know that they are here.

They want it.

That is what I did at

Yeovil Town. You've got to start

playing.

I scored a hat-trick at

Burton for Leicester, there was some

trouble and they made us have a

replay. It was struck off the

record.

This is like the me and me

show with you two going on. They've

got to come out and try to quiet in

this crowd. Do nothing stupid. Don't

give them any encouragement

whatsoever in the first 15 or 20

minutes. Then build into the game.

As we know this will be a tough

game. They are strong here, and they

are full of confidence and they will

have huge belief that they can cause

an upset.

Do you think there will be

an upset?

In the last five seasons,

they have gone out. It is the round

they have the most problems with. It

is at a ground where they are very

confident. I think we'll go all the

way to the end in this game. Why

would they not?

It is a beautiful

tone, beautiful part of the country.

Probably not the place that West Ham

wanted to come.

They know they are

in for a tough game. I hope I'm

wrong but I don't think there will

be many goals in it. Shrewsbury Town

very mean at the back.

everybody. All the ingredients are

here. It's exactly what the third

round is all about. Shrewsbury are

lower league but definitely not low

on confidence. The League 1

high-flyers have spent all season

overachieving so why stop now? West

Ham captain by Joe Hart, having come

through a brutal week. Those league

games have cost them half a dozen

players to injury. David Moyes has

picked the strongest team he has.

Interesting hearing the words of

Barry Davies commentating. That was

when Everton walked out. The sun

shining and a special atmosphere

befitting the FA Cup third round.

Here we are, 15 years later, those

words still very much apply. Danny

Murphy alongside me. It's a

different stadium from the old one.

That much is different. But a very

special day for Joe Hart.

It is

fantastic going back to the club

where you started your career. It is

nice for him to get some minutes

under his belt. I've got great

memories of these type of games. As

a player it gives your platform to

show the world and the country that

you are capable of better. West Ham

need to be right at it from the

first minute. Surely you can step

up.

player. Three years playing in the

second tier, which is where former

club are trying to get back to. In

goal today is Dean Henderson. Hem

and the back four have nine clean

sheets. Up front is Carlton Morris.

factory that started against Spurs

The West Ham bench is mainly

substitutes. You cannot speak too

highly. They already have more

points this season than they did in

the whole of last season. Nobody

thought they would be in the

shake-up to go up. She has brought

in some new players. We've got a lot

I know that I'm in the minority.

Masuaku got a foot in. It's a decent

playing surface. The days of playing

on muddy bogs have pretty much gone.

I played at the old one. They were

one of my lucky teams when I played

in the lower leagues but I've never

been here. Big improvement.

It's a bit windy. We seem that

earlier in the game. Trying to make

sure there's no early mistakes which

I understand. There is no excuses on

this pitch. That is for sure. Here

is Dean Anderson. Didn't play in any

of the first two rounds.

The free kick goes the way of West

Ham. The low sun is not only into

the face of the referee's assistant,

it into the eyes of Joe Hart and the

West Ham defence. It may prove

troublesome from the set piece at

some point.

I wish it was on us.

Masuaku advancing. It has been a

good week for a West Ham but a bed

-- a very busy week. Playing Tuesday

and Thursday and Sunday is not

normal. It is one extra game you

would not normally have. But with

the extra quality they've got on the

pitch they've got to manage the

game. Keep your shape and keep it so

you can press. There's a few players

who have not been playing. Great

opportunity for some of the younger

lads like Cullen and Burke to show

that they are capable.

They both

played for the first team before but

not for a while. They had good loan

spells. They both played on New

Year's Day. That was their last

involvement in first-team football.

I'm surprised Joe Hart has not got a

hat on. Going very quickly. I

suppose it is a preference. It might

make you feel uncomfortable. You

would think being able to see was an

advantage.

We did not have that

choice in midfield when you go up

headers. You don't see many keepers

wearing them these days.

These two where caps rather more

than needed gloves.

Lost here only twice this season.

One of those matches was in the

League Cup. -- EFL Trophy.

It has finished in South Wales.

Newport 2-1 Leeds.

Winston Reid is there.

Ham since three -- Rice is having a

breakthrough season. Just taken away

from him by Ogogo. I've just

mentioned Rice. He was superb in the

game against Tottenham. He's got a

really calm head. Comfortable on

both feet. He's just about to turn

19.

I remember Sadler playing in the

Premier League for Birmingham City.

You've got Rice at left-back. Burke

at right back. It makes sense with

the way that they are playing.

in your quality coming through.

I've watched a lot of West Ham. He's

given them a good threat down the

left-hand side. He's somebody who

likes to get forward and make things

happen.

header. It is not far. Stooping to

make the contact. It was a dangerous

ball in. It came back out and he put

in a really good ball. Just needed a

bit more on it.

It is going to be a Shrewsbury throw

I think it is important for West Ham

that they have the courage to get

the ball down and trust in their

quality is the more you keep the

ball and make them work, the more

they get tired chasing you.

Is that a foul? Yes, it is. It was

about Ben Godfrey, really, from

midfield. Gets the free kick.

It was

a great break. Actually, he's shown

a few nice judgments in the game.

That was a positive run forward from

the middle of the park. Young lad in

the middle, well thought of, on loan

from Norwich.

They will all be wanting this.

It might be Jon Nolan. It will be

Nolan and straight into the West Ham

wall.

high enough. Omar Beckles with the

throw. A nicely flighted ball in

towards Carlton Morris. Didn't

trouble Joe Hart. We understand he's

got his cap from the crowd. Here it

is. It is incredible, isn't it? It

is the West Ham United fans behind

Joe Hart's goal who gave him the

cap. I think the Shrewsbury fans

like Joe Hart, but not enough to

help him that much.

So Reece Burke will take this for

West Ham.

I am looking at Ayew

struggling. He's limping around. Got

enough injury worries, West Ham.

Hopefully run it off.

He seemed all right at the end of

the Spurs game, because he only came

off the bench, Carol. It would be

interesting to see how many would

have been playing if it was

Manchester United playing today. He

did tremendously well, West Ham, I

think to get a point and play the

way they did and defend the way they

did, with the injuries they've got.

The four points from the league

games is a very good return. If they

could stay in the FA Cup today, that

could be good for them and the back

room team. Includes Pearce, Urvine

and Mackinley.

I worked with him at

Fulham, a really good coach. People

talk about him doing good things. I

think the combination of those guys

- a lot of experience as well. You

have seen West Ham. They've got

results against teams and big teams

in the last month that you wouldn't

expect because of the coaching and

organisation they have shown. Really

disciplined. Hard to beat. Of course

they've had a couple of bad games.

Think of the one at Everton. There's

Stuart Pearce there, he would like

to be out there. You will have games

where you are not quite at it. Only

been there five minutes - takes a

time for a manager to stamp his mark

on the team. I have to say, when he

went in, they were in trouble. Now

they are in a much better place. Of

course they have not got enough

points on the board to be happy, but

the improvement is there, that is

sure.

It still amazes me in football how

many teams give the ball away from

throw ins. Throw it down the line.

It is a free pass, players running

too close to the ball. Hernandez was

five yards from them.

There are not many coaches who work

in throw ins. They are expected to

do it. The turn around, the turnover

from throw ins is incredible,

considering it is a free pass.

A pet hate of mine, sorry I am

ranting about it, but I do get

annoyed with it.

It will be a West Ham throw in.

Let's see if they keep possession

they have been here ten seasons now,

FA Cup quarter-finals twice

successful from the town. Shropshire

Wanderers were semi-finalists in the

19th century. I am sure you knew

that, Danny?

No. I didn't: I am sure

you didn't until someone gave you

that information.

I looked it up in

a very good book.

You are good with

these things. You seem to know a

lot. I think today, the supporters

are fantastic. This is what most

look forward to. It shows how much

it can mean to a smaller club. The

stadium being full's great for them

as well.

As you can see, Hernandez

seems to have had what Danny

predicted - which was an instant

dose of pain which wears off.

presence for a young man.

That's the

assistant manager of Shrewsbury. I

think there is a friendship between

Neil Adams and Paul Hurst here at

Shrewsbury, which perhaps Norwich

will hope will work in their favour

if Shrewsbury allow Jon Nolan to

leave the club. He is a player that

a lot of championship clubs are

after. Paul Hurst will be loath to

lose him. A cup win may mean he

doesn't have to sell.

You are in a

successful seasoned and possible

promotion winning in a season, part

of you wants to stay there and see

the job out. We'll have to see.

Masuaku's left foot might bend that

into the penalty spot. That was a

He's such a decent defender.

Underrated, I think.

He was. He has

struggled a bit this season. They

have been exposed more recently when

Moyes has come in and had the

mid-fielders helping out and got the

distances better. I think at times

the lack of pace can be a problem in

that right-hand side for West Ham.

That is why David Moyes is, in some

games, sometimes the style of play

is, you can only do what you can do

with the players you have available

to you at the time and I think

there's nothing wrong with that.

He's protecting Winston Reid better.

Carlton Morris, waiting and hoping

for a good ball here. Mat Sadler is

going to be the man to deliver.

I was looking at Hernandez's run. It

would have been a long diagonal. It

is about turning the back four.

Get some players chasing down there,

defenders. Easy to play against at

the moment.

there. I think Ayew was weary giving

Carlton Morris. He's 22 now. Hasn't

been on the mark of late. He's gone

12 games wo out a goal. Plays under

pressure from Stefan Payne, who is

amongst the suss touts. Outscored in

this season. I think there is a

feeling that Stefan Payne is a good

tool to have from the bench.

A trip. The referee will have a word

here. I think it will only be a

word.

Two central mid-field lads in West

Ham will have to show more courage

of getting them on the ball and

getting them playing. You cannot

hide from getting possession off the

full-back. You have to have someone

in the middle of the park who wants

the ball, spread the play, otherwise

you'll be in a fight the whole game.

he wanted, otherwise Joe Hart might

This is his 12th first team game for

West Ham. He made his debut four

years ago now, in an infamous FA Cup

third round tie when West Ham lost

5-0 at Nottingham Forest. They had a

League Cup final against Manchester

City all at the same time, picked a

weakened team at Forest, got

hammered 5-0, to give themselves a

chance. I think they lost 6-0 to Man

City. I don't think it endeared Sam

Allardyce to the West Ham fans.

Changing lot of players and you are

walking into games looking like you

have given it up, that would annoy

any set of supporters.

I think it is

fair to say that the tickets for the

second league of that -- leg of that

League Cup semi were not gold dust.

You can get it stepled,

depending on the cut, but that looks

as two strikers you have to play the

to staple that, those with a queasy

disposition might want to look away.

awareness of people around him.

played. One touch stuff. Given away

by West Ham. Presented possession

That is a super header

defensively. I tell you what. He

looks dead on his feet, Kouyate.

He's giving the ball away too

easily. He put a lot of miles into

that big pitch at Wembley. At the

moment they are getting dominated.

It should not be happening. Not when

you're a Premier League side.

David Moyes will be pretty happy if

they go in at 0-0. That is being

generous. There will be some harsh

words in there. They won't accept

this. Too many second ball is lost.

Too many 50-50 chances. He got the

better of him. Morris is in the

middle. Here he is. Joe Hart left

it. Burke put it behind for a

corner. Lack of communication? It

is, but fair play. If you're going

to take responsibility, deal with it

after. Ten seconds over the added

minutes have been played. They don't

have long to make discounts. This

4/2 time! Kept in successfully. The

referee's whistle brings the first

half to a close. Shrewsbury Town

have had all the chances.

Joe Hart

with a number of decent saves. His

opposite number has had very little

to do. West Ham will be happy to go

in at this point because it is the

League 1 team that have edged it. At

half-time it is 0-0. Goalless at

half-time. It has not been pretty

but that would suit Shrewsbury Town.

While they will be delighted with

that. They should be leading and if

it was not for Joe Hart they would

be. They've shown a desire and a

hunger to be part of this game and

West Ham have. They look as if they

just don't want to be there. Too

many of their players are having an

off day. David Moyes has every right

to rattle a few cages at half-time

because it's not been good enough.

After 40 minutes, West Ham passes

completed was 51%.

The front meant

all look like they are too happy.

There's not been enough possession

of the midfield to get them working.

That suits Shrewsbury Town stop

they've had the best chances. Two

decent saves, one from Joe Hart. It

is good play. He got forward. He got

a bit of result with this ricochet.

This is a really good save. As a

centre-half I don't think he could

do any more. He's shown great

composure. Joe Hart makes a really

good save. Not long after that,

another decent chance. A more

straightforward save.

This is a save

you'd expect him to make. Put under

pressure. Alex Rodman did very well,

too easy to get into that position

but it's a shot in the middle of the

goal. It's one you'd expect him to

make. Look how easy he goes round

here. That summed up their

performance. Too easy. It's another

pop at goal and they've been the

better team in that task.

I suppose

the problem is you cannot imagine

them being that bad again in the

second half.

I don't know. It

doesn't look like there's anyone in

the way that they are playing who

can get any better. They look like

they just getting by. I think with

Shrewsbury this is a great

opportunity because as bad as they

are playing up front, you can see...

This is far too easy. Three minutes

into the game. We said you've got to

make sure you put them under

pressure. Make sure they know they

are in for a game. The queasy

listeners. But it is not acceptable.

Is tiredness at the fence?

Not at

all. There is no link play or

understanding of the game. Look how

far up they are. Where is he. They

are not working hard enough. They

look as if they didn't want to be

there and West Ham got away with

that. Not acceptable from some of

the players. You cannot put in

performances like that. Too many of

them are not working hard enough.

Shrewsbury Town contrast have had a

real go.

At home. They've got a

really good opportunity. West Ham

have gone out five times at this

stage and they look like a team that

are ready to go out again. They

should just a bit.

You don't see

goalkeepers wear caps these days.

Groans are so big. He's got 75

England caps but he's had to borrow

somebody else's here. You would

think he would go into the game

knowing that he might need to bring

a of his own but a fan has come to

the rescue. He did get it back at

half-time which is pretty decent of

him. One match has been played

already. We had a shock. Newport

County against Leeds United. Beaten

to it. Manages the clearance. He

fancies a shot and he scores! Leeds

United have had their nerves Eades.

I'm not sure if that takes a

deflection. You'll be disappointed

to have been beaten from a distance.

Cleared up the line. Ya a free

header. He turned and shot. Then

make much contact with the ball. Low

cross in! It's an own goal! It's a

shock to see him turn it into his

own net. It's a corner again.

big games against teams like Leeds

United. I thought we were excellent

and we deserved the win.

the character from your players to

come back and win it?

They never

know when they are beaten. We have a

tough week. We have fire at the

training ground. We had illness the

week. My little one was in hospital

last night. We get all this thrown

at us but they are just an amazing

group of players and I'm so proud to

be their manager.

Tomorrow night

your name is in the hat. Who would

you like?

Anfield, the team I support it. I'm

sure I would take anybody in the top

six.

We know it makes the world of

difference to a club like this. Can

you put it into words?

It is huge.

You never know, they might buy me a

He certainly deserves one.

That's the first time they've

eliminated aside from the

second-tier or higher. That side

was... West Ham! It is like an omen.

I had a feeling you would say that.

people who know the goalkeeper of

West Ham rather well. David played

with them as a young player. And his

first goalkeeping coach... Your old

team in the first half has been

amazing.

Yes. They've really taken

the game to West Ham and they are

unlucky to be ahead. I think they've

mixed up quite well. Morris has been

playing well. They've looked a real

threat.

What are your memories of

playing with Joe Hart?

My first

memory was playing against him in a

school game. It went to penalties

that day. Then I played at county

level with him. Obviously played

against him in some big games as

well.

How much was he looking

forward to today?

He was. I spoke to

him earlier in the week and he was

pleased to be playing. To come back

to his home team, he only lives down

the road. It's great for him. Bit of

town that he's here.

You coached him

from the age of eight. Did you

always know he was going to make it?

You always knew he'd make a living

in the game. When he was 15 it was

when we thought he was a bit

special.

He was very vocal even as a

young kid.

He had a great passion

and enthusiasm. He always kept his

team-mates on his toes.

He's not a

regular in the West Ham team. A lot

of young keepers are sniffing around

his position.

Will just have to wait

and see. It's a long time before the

World Cup starts. Hopefully he can

get back in the team.

What do

Shrewsbury Town to do to cause an

upset?

Put their chances away. He's

made some good saves. They could

keep going and it might drop for

them.

And you sense an update -- an

upset?

Yes. They pride themselves on

their fitness and they will go right

to the end.

Joe Hart is a big story

and has remained so in the first

half with a couple of cracking

saves. The other story is Coutinho

leaving Liverpool. A chance to get

your views. It's a lot of money. It

was probably the beginning of the

season they've said, give us until

January. To be fear his attitude has

been excellent. He's scored goals

and played well. They could not

really stand in his way. When a

player tells the football club he no

longer wants to be there it is up to

the club to find the best deal and

they've got a hell of a deal. I

think it will dent their Champions

League hopes. He's a quality player.

No doubt about that. He's a

difficult player to replace because

he has that real creativity to his

game.

I think this is the best

possible time to sell him.

In the

middle of the season?

I don't think

they will miss him as much. They've

done pretty well when he's not

played. He's a quality player but at

the same time they play well enough

that the minute where they can turn

down that money.

You don't think

they should find a replacement? They

did it with the money from Luis

Suarez and it did not work. It would

not surprise me if they wait until

the end of the season.

But it is a

big amount of money.

They've been

linked with Riyad Mahrez.

They will

be linked with a lot of players.

Once they get going again, they will

not miss him as much.

I'm surprised

that the timing. They are running

away with the league and he cannot

play in the Champions League.

They

need to sign players to placate the

fans.

Mark Hughes is the other story

that has broken. He lost his job the

other night.

It's not a surprise. He

was under huge pressure. When a

football club is in and around the

bottom three, he gambled with the

team at Chelsea. He left the

players. Then they played Newcastle.

It looked as if players have stopped

running for him. It was only going

to be one result away from it, I

think and that performance yesterday

was the end for him. No surprise.

He'd been there five years and this

was his first season they'd really

struggled.

In the current climate,

we see managers come in and have a

little change. He could not stop the

rot.

The second half is coming up.

We could do with a goal.

All the

He's been an FA Cup runner-up with

Everton in 2009, losing to Chelsea.

precarious at times. Neither manager

has made any substitutions.

They've

just trudged back onto the pitch. We

would suggest that they will lead to

improved. Yes. They've just walked

in a group back onto the pitch. Bad

body language. It doesn't mean

you're not going to run around the

same but you would think you would

see let's get out there and sprint

for it.

the moment, second in League 1,

doing well. That was curling

We've not seen enough of him going

forward. Is got some skill and

delivery but he's not been high

enough up the pitch often enough.

have been good. Trying to play that

right side when he was central. As

soon as he's in the middle of the

park, West Ham are much better. Back

You have to say

there have been bad. They rode their

luck at times. They've certainly

been better in the last ten or 15

minutes but this man deserves

applause. He's put in a hell of a

shift. The top scorer comes on the

last eight minutes of normal time.

expect to be given have not been

done. The best players have been the
