round of the playoffs which means

there are only eight teams remaining

in the race to the Super Bowl.

I'm once again joined by

Osi Umenyiora and also a man whose

reputation was on the line.

A man whose predictions

were as accurate as a

Blake Bortles deep ball.

A man desperate.

First, it was funny,

then it was kind of sad,

but last week, when it mattered,

it turns out he is in fact a stable

genius, rising from the Ashes,

stepping away from the Jobcentre...

I'm quite emotional.

I think they'll go in there,

the pressure's off of them

and that's why I'm going with

Atlanta.

So on tonight's show -

he is out of breath, by the way -

we will be having a quick look back

on last week's action,

looking ahead to this weekend's

fixtures and we'll be discussing

next season's London games that

were announced on Thursday.

But first, let's see how last week's

Wild Card games have

shaped the playoffs.

In the AFC, the Tennessee Titans

surprised us all with a win

at the Kansas City Chiefs

and the Buffalo Bills were unable

to get past a dogged

Jacksonville Jaguars.

So that means that this weekend

the lower seeded Titans play

the number one seeded

New England Patriots,

and the Jacksonville Jaguars head

off to Pittsburgh to play

the second seeded Steelers.

Now in the NFC, the New Orleans

Saints are off to the Carolina

Panthers for the third

time this season.

And the Atlanta Falcons stifled

the Rams offense in LA to make

it two NFC South teams

in the final four.

The Falcons, as the lowest

progressing seed, are away

to the number one seeded

Philadelphia Eagles.

That game is currently under way.

The Saints play away

to the number two seeds,

the Minnesota Vikings.

Again, just for clarity,

this show was recorded before

the kick-off of the Falcons-Eagles

game, so we won't be speaking

in much detail about that game.

But overall, the weekend that went

last weekend was a great

weekend of football.

Yes, it was.

We saw some outstanding games.

Some not so good games,

but we also saw -

One awful game.

One awful game, but we saw

some outstanding games.

We saw some upsets.

We saw exactly what the NFL

playoffs is all about.

Actually, something

that was missing a little bit

from last year's playoffs.

There were a lot of blowouts

last year, weren't they?

Favourites always dominated

in the playoffs last year,

were we had a bit of surprise,

we had some close games

again this season.

Absolutely.

And, like Osi always

says, parity, right.

When you come to this

point of the season,

teams are evenly matched and it

makes for great football.

Three really exciting games,

and one that wasn't!

Before we start previewing

this weekend's fixtures,

we're going to show you one

of the most unexpected

highlights of last week,

and that was the comeback

of the Tennessee Titans

against the Kansas City Chiefs,

which nobody would have predicted

before hand and nobody would have

predicted at half time either.

The Titans were 21-3 down.

Nobody saw this coming.

Everybody thought the Kansas City

Chiefs were going to win the game.

My own mother -

who doesn't watch football -

said Kansas City was going to win

this football game,

but the Tennessee Titans showed

a tremendous amount of grit,

coming back and winning this game.

Yeah.

I mean we touched on it

on the Tuesday show, Jason,

but it was all about putting faith

in Marcus Mariota,

their quarterback,

to run the show for them.

They said, go out there,

be yourself, make plays happen.

I mean, this play right here,

what you can do about this?

But ultimately, when he's moving

around and making things happen,

that's when he's effective.

Sorry, I was going to say.

If you manage to throw

a touchdown pass to yourself,

you must assume that it's

going to be your night?

You can't lose the game!

You cannot throw a touchdown pass

to yourself and lose

the game after that -

no possible way.

You can have as many

schemes and as many cards

over your microphone and have

as many plays as possible,

but I guarantee that one wouldn't

have been on the play call.

I mean, sometimes it's

just your day, man.

Sometimes you're just

flat out lucky, and this

was one of those plays.

We praise Mariota,

what about Derrick Henry as well?

We're seeing his 35 yard touchdown

run here and at this stage

Kansas City were leading 21-16,

Jason.

Yeah, the thing about him

is he's a big physical back

and he was complaining

about being soft the week before,

and you see what happens

when you give a guy like that

carries and carries and carries,

he wears down the defense.

He was very physical,

and that's how he ran it.

Yeah, some running backs

they enjoy contact.

They go seeking contact

when they run the football

whereas other guys run out-of-bounds

and they get down before the tackle.

So when he said running soft,

he meant, you know, maybe he wasn't

looking for the contact,

he was running away from tackles.

But this game he wasn't

running soft at all.

He was punching.

They went with long drives did

Tennessee 3rd quarter, 4th quarter.

You both play defense,

that just tires and wears

down a defense, does it?

Especially with a

physical running back.

In that 3rd and 4th quarter,

you don't want to tackle

that guy any more.

He's been hitting you, you're tired,

you're sore and he's coming

and coming and coming,

and that's what happened.

You saw them take over

the game because of that.

Absolutely no worse than them having

the team pound the football

down your throat over and over

again, and that's exactly what

the Tennessee Titans were built for.

That's something they had gotten

away from throughout this season,

but they went right back

to against Kansas City.

So for this defeat, and again

we spoke about it on the

Tuesday night show,

but the Kansas City offense has

to take some sort of blame

and their play caller,

their offensive co-ordinator - who's

now actually gone to be the head

coach at the Chicago Bears - for not

keeping the Kansas City offense

on the field enough?

Kansas City Chiefs always

the bridesmaids, never the bride.

I mean, they always seem

to get to this point,

especially under Andy Reid,

and somehow find a way

to lose the football game.

There's no possible way they should

have lost this game.

Obviously Travis Kelce,

their outstanding footballer,

tied in, got injured,

but still they had enough

weapons to continue doing

what they were supposed to do

and ended up losing the game.

Those weapons didn't make the plays

when Travis Kelce went out.

I mean, there was almost four

or five drop passes.

Alex Smith actually played

a really good game.

The guys needed to step it

up, and they didn't.

OK.

Well, the Titans must have been

elated going into that changing

room after the game,

until somebody reminded them

who their next opponents were.

COMMENTATOR:

Driving forward,

diving to the goalline!

And touchdown.

And the title for the Patriots.

I can't believe it,

I can't believe it!

The New England Patriots,

the reigning champions,

coached by Bill Belichick,

ruled by their head coach

like no other team.

COMMENTATOR:

Well New England,

you have the best football team

in the world right now.

Under Belichick, the Patriots are

five-times Super Bowl champions -

it helps to have Tom Brady

and the Gronk.

COMMENTATOR:

Gronkowski,

makes a twisting one handed catch.

Oh, superhuman.

They looked a little out of sorts

early in the regular season,

but finished in more familiar style.

It runs through their veins -

never write us off.

Do you give them a chance?

I give every team in the NFL

a chance, but it's going to be

a hard game, a difficult battle.

But ultimately, one thing you can't

account for is injuries and,

when something like that happens,

so I always give a team a chance.

Nice answer.

Kind of sitting on the fence,

but nice answer.

Well, you know I'm not

sitting on the fence.

No, I know.

Zero chance.

They have zero chance

of winning this game, Mark.

No way.

You have to think about what's going

on with the New England Patriots,

specially this week.

There's a lot of nonsense

going on about Bill Belichick

and Robert Kraft and Tom Brady.

This is a team that prides itself

on stomping on people's necks,

especially in adverse situations.

They're going to come out and try

and make a statement

against the Tennessee Titans.

Unfortunately for Tennessee,

The story ends here are for them.

Let's talk about the nonsense

then that's been going

on around the Patriots.

So rumours that Belichick wanted

out and could end up

coaching the Giants which,

obviously, with your two allegiances

with your two allegiances,

would be hilarious from my point

of view going forward.

As you say, disagreements between

Belichick and Brady and Kraft.

The organisation themselves

have said it's nonsense.

Do you believe any of it?

Do any of these stories

come out of nowhere?

I mean, where there's smoke

there's fight, right,

-- fire

but ultimately the timing of it just

let's me know that they're trying

to do anything to being no

the New England Patriots

off their mark.

The fact they traded away Garoppolo

for a second round pick.

This is essentially what they sdchl

have you the Lion King

and you have Simba,

you always pick Simba

over the Lion King.

They chose the Lion King in the end.

This is something the New England

Patriots would never do,

and they did this, which means that

there's something going

on behind-the-scenes.

Tom Brady probably felt

threatened by Jimmy Garoppolo.

Knew they weren't going to keep

him behind for another

three or four years.

They had to do something.

There's something

to this story, Mark.

They've got the same agent, Osi.

There's something,

there's something.

They could have forced their hand.

There's something to this story.

So do you think Kraft

wants to protect Brady?

Yes.

But Belichick would have been happy

to, at the end of the season,

to cut Brady and then

play Garoppolo?

Is that how you read it?

If I know Bill Belichick,

over the 17, 18 years

that he's been there,

that is something he

would absolutely do.

That is something he

They've done wonderful things

together, but the time...

He wants to keep on coaching.

Brady is 40, going into 41, 42,

Jimmy Garoppolo is a young stud.

You want to keep a guy like that.

I think Kraft chose Brady over

what Belichick actually wanted.

So a prediction on this one?

Going with New England.

Right, the other AFC Wild Card

matchup last weekend

was between the Buffalo Bills,

who haven't been to the playoffs

in 18 years, and the Jacksonville

Jaguars, who haven't won a playoff

game at home for 18 years.

Coincidentally, the game felt

like it lasted 18 years!

man, and think about a time

you were thinking to yourself -

man, if I could have a chance

to get in the playoffs.

A game of stifling defense.

good defense can do.

That's what always happens.

If it's a 0-0 in our

football people say -

oh, great defense, great defense.

You're talking to two

defenders here.

I know.

We love this.

But, you know, we're meant to be

about entertainment - well, not us -

but sport's meant to be

about entertainment, isn't it?

It will.

But I tell you this,

it did show you that a good defense

could be effective in the play-offs.

Yes.

We always preached

that and we saw that.

Did you sit there watching that game

thinking, "oh, great defense"

or were you a bit bored?

Be honest.

I tell you what, Mark,

it made me appreciate good football

when I saw how bad those

two teams played.

I knew right then that we needed

to see some better offense.

I mean, come on man, Blake Bortles,

did you see the throws

he was making or not making?

I mean, the Buffalo

Bills trying to run...

I mean, it was just bad

football all around.

Good defensive play, like we said.

We saw some really good things

on defense, but overall

just not a very fun

game to watch.

OK.

Well let's move on from that then,

the Jacksonville Jaguars progressed,

they go on to play at the fortress

that is Heinz Field in the middle

of the bleak Pittsburgh winter.

The Pittsburgh Steelers,

the oldest franchise in the AFC,

the most successful team

in Super Bowl history -

six times the champions.

COMMENTATOR:

Ben Roethlisberger,

the youngest quarterback ever

to win a Super Bowl.

A-listers with the killer bees.

Now it's time to come out

game of their lives

the worst game he's ever played,

So you might think that

the Jacksonville Jaguars

have his number, I think

that the Jacksonville

Jaguars have his number.

I think they're going

to win -

Do you?

I absolutely do.

I think defensively they're

going to be able to shut down

the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense.

Who knows what Blake Bortles

is going to do, who knows.

But I think defensively

I think they're going to be

able to carry the day.

I'm picking Jacksonville.

Where do you come with this logic?

There's nothing logical about this.

Yes.

First of all, that

was a different game.

Why?

That was a different team.

Why?

Because offensively they weren't

clicking like they are now.

OK.

Ultimately, JuJu...

Is playing great football.

And ultimately, this

was going to happen.

Defensively they're not

going to play as aggressive

because they know they can't give up

one big play to Pittsburgh.

Jacksonville can't do that

because they can't score.

So you saw last game they even

played different defensively.

All the Pittsburgh Steelers have

to do is score 21 points.

Jason, who knows which Blake Bortles

is going to show up?

He is the most inconsistent

quarterback we have

had in this year.

But if he gets hot, like he did

late there in December,

and the Jacksonville Jaguars play

defense the way they've been

playing the entire season,

the Jacksonville Jaguars can

absolutely win this game.

OK, but there are so many things

to question you both about that.

That point first of all,

if Pittsburgh get ahead early,

whatever Blake Bortles turns up,

they won't get back

into it, will they,

because they struggle

to chase a game -

that is what we have

seen this season.

I'll give you that,

I will 100% give you that.

If they get behind.

But how are they going to get

behind in the first place?

You completely underestimate

the strength of this

Jacksonville Jaguars defense.

They are outstanding.

Great pressure, great linebackers.

The DBs can cover.

This is a great team.

Do you think they will be aggressive

against this Pittsburgh offense,

because Jason, you are

insinuating they might be

a bit more conservative.

They were last week.

Not go for the big plays,

because they cannot give up

a big play against them.

Do you disagree with that?

They are going to have to be

aggressive, because they know

for a fact that they can't get down

to the Pittsburgh Steelers,

or else there is going to be

no way back for them.

They are going to play the exact

same way they played...

Pittsburgh is going

to do their research.

Pittsburgh are going to come

out and be like, OK,

we can't allow the same things

that happened last game

to happen this game.

But I am betting on the

Jacksonville Jaguars' defense.

I watch them, I watch how they play.

These guys were in off

coverage all game.

And defensively, the way Pittsburgh

to attack that defense.

We are going to see

who is the stable genius.

A couple of other points on this.

Big Ben said he wanted Jacksonville

to get through so that he could take

revenge from what happened earlier

in the season.

The two corners we have spoken

about responded with,

be careful what you wish for.

The thing I've noticed

about Jacksonville this season

is they are not afraid

of voicing their opinions.

That defense is amazing and those

corners, they are the best duo

I have seen in a long time.

and the New Orleans offense.

This evening, we're going to look

at how Minnesota's defense might

cope with Drew Brees.

On the show - which has been

renamed Jason And Friends -

you are going to talk us

Look at the guy's smile.

He looks like he's ready

to steal your girlfriend right now.

Like, come here, girl.

He is trying to throw

me off of my game.

But you can't.

Because, guess why, we're talking

about my guy, Harrison Smith.

What makes him so good

is that he makes your defense right.

We always talk about difference

makers, or people that

make your defense right,

and I want to go through some

things and show you that.

And you are going through

what happened when the Saints

and Vikings met earlier this season?

One play will be like that, yes.

We'll start with that for you.

OK, it's all yours.

This is when they met

earlier this year.

I want to show you something,

I'm going to highlight this guy.

I want to show you something,

I'm going to highlight this guy.

What is going to happen

is Harrison is going to drop

down into a cover 3 zone

and he is going to have a defender

come into his area and then

he is going to have another guy,

so he has two threats.

And he is going to

make the team right.

You see him move around.

He comes down.

He has the flat over here and he has

two guys to worry about.

He is in between them and he plays

right in between them

and makes your team right,

because, in the zone

coverage, in three deep man,

that is what they want to do.

They want to run one guy out

of there and bring another offensive

player behind you and

drop the ball in.

He made them right.

So very hard play to defend.

Let's look at another

cover 3 concept.

And there is Harrison Smith again.

And now I want to

highlight this man.

What is he responsible

for in cover 3?

He is responsible for this flat.

If anything comes out this flat,

he has a deep third defender

and he is responsible for this flat.

These are things that beat that,

but he makes them right.

But the guy he is responsible for,

despite him being responsible

for that lane, the guy

he is responsible for is

on the other side of the field

at the moment and probably blocked

by maybe two or three players

from Harrison's eyeline.

Exactly.

Now you can watch him react to that.

He is going to do

something we call plaster,

which is when the quarterback moves,

you have to lock up with your guy

in your zone and man coverage,

and that is what he does.

This is significant,

how he pulls this off.

He drops down into

his responsibility.

He sees the threat.

Now he sees the quarterback

on the move and you see him lock up

with the man-to-man and he makes

a play again.

Once again, he makes

the defense right.

That's what great players do.

Now, two pass game things.

Let's see him get in the run game.

OK, let's see him get

dirty right there.

There is Harrison.

What he has is this gap right here.

You will see the play happen.

It moves, he is blitzing the gap,

but you will see how physical

he is and he just makes everybody

look good because he shoots the gap

and he comes down and loads them up.

That's what Harrison does.

Do you want to see that again?

You have got to hear the sound

he makes when he hits.

All the way back, you did not

know I could do that!

Let me hear that sound again.

How does it happen?

Fire!

But that one is significant

because the Saints have two very,

very good running backs,

so how he defends against

the running game will be

important, as well.

It is not just Drew Brees.

Absolutely, because what he is going

to do, those linebackers will be

responsible for the running backs,

but the opening gap will always be

one of the safeties,

usually Harrison Smith,

and you see what happens

when he goes down and he can make

a tackle and it will be physical.

Are you going for your

friend in this game?

Come on, Mark, you know the deal,

Vikings all the way.

Vikings all the way.

Going with Saints.

Why?

I just feel like these guys

are on a roll and you have to think

about the things these guys have

been through to get to this point.

They had to battle

through the NFC South.

The toughest division of football.

Beating all those teams.

Minnesota has gone through nothing.

Green Bay, Detroit, nobodies.

I mean, New Orleans Saints

went through hell...

LAUGHTER.

The Saints went through hell,

I'm picking them to go

through this game, simply

because of their experience.

I can't even watch the games

with you this week.

I can't even be next to you.

Let's remind you where

we are at with the divisional

games in the NFL, as far

as the AFC is concerned.

The low-seeded Tennessee Titans

going to New England

to take on the Patriots.

Then you have Pittsburgh

at home to Jacksonville.

As far as the NFC is concerned,

Atlanta got through

against the rounds and now

they are favourites to beat

the top-seeded Eagles.

That game taking

place at the moment.

And as we have just been discussing,

the New Orleans Saints go

to the Minnesota Vikings.

one is mouthwatering,

particularly given also the venue

at the new Spurs stadium.

And I love the fact

they are both coming

from the West Coast of the States.

Nobody has an excuse.

They get to come out
