Arca macro welcome to men's quarterfinals day here at Wimbledon.

:00:39.:00:48.

If you are just joining now, sit back and enjoy what should be an

:00:49.:00:52.

exciting day, with four fantastic matches scheduled. An Centre Court,

:00:53.:00:57.

the four-time champion Roger Federer bidding to equal Jimmy Connors'

:00:58.:01:05.

record of 11 Wimbledon semifinals. He faces Marin Cilic with big serves

:01:06.:01:14.

and big ground stroke, too. Then the popular Jo-Wilfried Tsonga faces

:01:15.:01:20.

Andy Murray. On Court Number One, Sam Querrey versus Milos Raonic. But

:01:21.:01:26.

here comes the players onto Centre Court, and Roger Federer knows this

:01:27.:01:30.

walks so well. CHEERING

:01:31.:01:42.

A big ovation for Roger, and he knows how dangerous it is, because

:01:43.:01:49.

Marin Cilic beat him in the US Open semifinal in straight sets just two

:01:50.:01:57.

years ago. Court Number One, Sam Querrey and Milos Raonic, 180 aces

:01:58.:02:02.

between them at this Championships. Tomas Berdych is playing his fourth

:02:03.:02:07.

game in a row, and he faces Lucas Pouille. -- fourth day in a row. And

:02:08.:02:16.

here come the two big men, Sam Querrey's first Grand Slam

:02:17.:02:18.

quarterfinal, but Raonic knows this game well.

:02:19.:02:26.

APPLAUSE And both of these players coming

:02:27.:02:31.

back from two sets to love down, so they know how to fight back. Milos

:02:32.:02:36.

Raonic has John McEnroe in his coaching team right now, but Sam

:02:37.:02:41.

Querrey is the man who put out Novak Djokovic, and that has changed the

:02:42.:02:43.

tournament completely, so that bees over on Court Number One. The Hill

:02:44.:02:53.

is packed, and the atmosphere is building an Centre Court, everybody

:02:54.:02:56.

cheering as Roger Federer and Marin Cilic make their way to the

:02:57.:03:00.

baseline. I am here with Jim and Tim. Beautiful atmosphere. Yes,

:03:01.:03:08.

everyone is pretty excited. I would say it is fair that we are, to. And

:03:09.:03:16.

lovely weather last. About time, too. Everyone had a difficult time

:03:17.:03:20.

in the first week, it was stop - start, but to get a day like this

:03:21.:03:25.

with a schedule like this, a lot of exciting tennis ahead. The weather

:03:26.:03:28.

affects the grass courts, and who will this favour? The ball will

:03:29.:03:34.

travel quicker in the warm weather, but it also helps the defender a

:03:35.:03:39.

little, so the grass will be drier, you might be able to plant and stop.

:03:40.:03:44.

I think this is a tricky match-up Federer, this guy can take the

:03:45.:03:47.

racket completely out of his hands, Marin Cilic. Monster serves an big

:03:48.:03:52.

cuts on the ground strokes, if he gets time on the ball he can present

:03:53.:03:56.

a lot of trouble for Roger Federer. He has the big shots, I mentioned

:03:57.:04:00.

that the semifinal at the US Open, straight sets, blew him off the

:04:01.:04:05.

court. That is right, and we have to look to see whether Cilic can have

:04:06.:04:08.

an impact in the first three shots of the rallies, when he hits the

:04:09.:04:12.

service. If it comes back, he has to look to dominate with the first shot

:04:13.:04:15.

of the rally, and if Federer is able to nullify that, get an level terms,

:04:16.:04:22.

he is still the most offensive play on grass, he will have the

:04:23.:04:25.

opportunity to dictate play, move forwards. Certainly given Federer's

:04:26.:04:31.

tournament play this year, he has worked his way into the tournament,

:04:32.:04:34.

he has been lacking match fitness, match toughness, and he did well in

:04:35.:04:38.

the first four matches, but a question mark whether he has really

:04:39.:04:43.

been pushed so far. Looking at his statistics, one record after

:04:44.:04:47.

another, and at the age of 34, as hungry as ever for a Grand Slam

:04:48.:04:50.

title. At as been awhile since he has won one, and I think all of us

:04:51.:04:56.

recognise that this is his best chance. This tournament, he likes

:04:57.:05:00.

this the most, it works best with his assets because he has the

:05:01.:05:03.

ability to blunt the force of someone like Cilic, as we saw him do

:05:04.:05:07.

so many times against Andy Roddick. Just get that serve back in play,

:05:08.:05:14.

that will use his skill, but Tim is right, if Cilic can keep this at

:05:15.:05:20.

three shot rallies also, he has more firepower, that will work in his

:05:21.:05:24.

favour. It could be his 40th Grand Slam semifinal. It is unbelievable.

:05:25.:05:31.

It is, the longevity and the consistency, and this is the first

:05:32.:05:35.

time really where he has his rhythm and settled, he had to have the knee

:05:36.:05:39.

operation after the Australian Open, and he probably missed about two

:05:40.:05:43.

months of tennis, and when he was trying to come back, he was ill and

:05:44.:05:46.

had to miss a tournament in America, and then coming back onto the clay,

:05:47.:05:52.

you struggled with his back, so the French Open was the first Grand Slam

:05:53.:05:56.

he had missed in about 17 years, and then he was trying to find his form

:05:57.:05:59.

on the grass, which is a good surface. And looking here at Marin

:06:00.:06:04.

Cilic, he has a big serve, a big wingspan, he will have to attack

:06:05.:06:09.

today. He will, and when he does, he has proven that he can do what is

:06:10.:06:12.

very hard, he can go through the big layers. When he won the US Open in

:06:13.:06:17.

2014, he didn't drop a set from the quarterfinals on. He didn't give

:06:18.:06:23.

them a chance to play. In a few hours, Roger Federer, his artistic

:06:24.:06:27.

ability, if he gives him the brushes today, he will lose. He has to take

:06:28.:06:33.

everything on his side of the net, take chances and hope that that is

:06:34.:06:39.

enough, it may not be. And what impact has Goran Ivanisevic had an

:06:40.:06:46.

Cilic? He looks to be playing his best tennis in three years. He gave

:06:47.:06:53.

him the belief that he can beat the big players on the biggest stages,

:06:54.:06:57.

and in the semifinals and finals at the US Open, that was a classic

:06:58.:07:00.

example, having beaten Federer in straight sets in the semifinals, it

:07:01.:07:06.

was a huge chance for Cilic in the final against Nishikori, and he took

:07:07.:07:12.

it. What Goran has done best I think is he has signified things, don't

:07:13.:07:20.

overcomplicated, look at very simple tennis, keep the serves big, that is

:07:21.:07:28.

when you play your best tennis. He was one of the great men in tennis.

:07:29.:07:32.

Passionate! He had a lot of firepower.

:07:33.:07:38.

UMPIRE: Time. They have called time, so how do you read this one, Jim? I

:07:39.:07:44.

like Federer but I think you will be tested for sets, Tim? I don't like

:07:45.:07:50.

to agree with Jim, so Federer in five! Roger knows at this stage in

:07:51.:07:54.

the tournament you have to keep improving, to know what does that

:07:55.:07:59.

better than him. So here we go. Tim and Jim are on their way to join

:08:00.:08:02.

Mark Petchey. MARK PETCHEY: Marin Cilic has had

:08:03.:08:27.

huge improvement under the tutelage of Goran Ivanisevic. This man has

:08:28.:08:36.

been accustomed to being in the limelight since that win in 2003.

:08:37.:08:46.

The Croatian to begin this quarterfinal.

:08:47.:09:22.

You see the use of the sliced backhand from Roger, a crucial shot,

:09:23.:09:28.

something that Cilic will utilise often today.

:09:29.:09:51.

You talk about all the match-ups during the game, the serve, the

:09:52.:10:00.

return, who can dictate, but I also think the start is important for

:10:01.:10:04.

Cilic. Federer is such a good front runner, he needs to get off to a

:10:05.:10:05.

good positive start. Roger has played over 70 times now

:10:06.:10:16.

out on this court. A very relaxed looking return there

:10:17.:10:39.

from Roger. Looked as though he was going to try to make any kind of

:10:40.:10:43.

massive drive to break the Cilic serve, which has been hugely

:10:44.:10:46.

impressive, gym, so far in this tournament. He really has. Cilic,

:10:47.:10:53.

particularly when he makes his first serve in play, the far right, he

:10:54.:11:00.

makes 90%. Second serve points, well over half, and he has only been

:11:01.:11:04.

broken three times. This is a man who coming into Wimbledon was having

:11:05.:11:09.

a subpar season. He was making about 55% first serves.

:11:10.:11:18.

He is catching some form right at the right time.

:11:19.:11:52.

Tim, you actually played Cilic just the ones at Queen's back in 2007,

:11:53.:12:20.

all that that was about the time you were starting to stop, wasn't it?

:12:21.:12:28.

Nice to see you, too, Petch! Let me get out of the way for that us that

:12:29.:12:34.

just ran over Tim. Not one of my better days at the office.

:12:35.:12:47.

Did you think back then that this guy would be a Grand Slam champion?

:12:48.:13:02.

I do think I did. He must have been an extremely good player to beat me,

:13:03.:13:04.

but... ! It has been hard to break through in

:13:05.:13:30.

this era, Federer and Nadal and Djokovic and Murray hoarding all of

:13:31.:13:37.

the awards until Wawrinka was able to break through.

:13:38.:13:44.

And Del Potro, the tallest man in the open era to have won Slams, six

:13:45.:13:55.

foot six. He has had a hard time capturing that same form, Cilic,

:13:56.:13:57.

since winning the US Open in 2014. But everything has been clicking for

:13:58.:14:12.

him here at the tournament, and he and Federer practised before the

:14:13.:14:17.

tournament, Roger has been quoted as saying that he knew Marin was onto

:14:18.:14:22.

something, he was thumping the ball with extreme confidence.

:14:23.:14:30.

UMPIRE: Game, Cilic. Another tab to the growing

:14:31.:14:34.

collection here at Wimbledon. It has been arguably the big

:14:35.:14:40.

difference Cilic has been the serve under Goran Ivanisevic. If we look

:14:41.:14:45.

at it closely through Hawk-Eye, it is his contact point. Wimbledon

:14:46.:14:50.

2012, when he was throwing the ball, you see the whips in terms of the

:14:51.:14:54.

beehive as we like to call it, the differential, the height above the

:14:55.:15:01.

court as well. Very few aces. If we move it to Wimbledon 2016, we can

:15:02.:15:04.

see how much narrower the band has got, it is much tighter, he has a

:15:05.:15:09.

much more consistent ball toss, it is a little lower as well. Visually,

:15:10.:15:16.

what does that look like? We went back and looked at his serve from

:15:17.:15:17.

2012 and 2016. And if you see here on the left, you

:15:18.:15:31.

can see the bend, you can see the height of the ball toss if we hold

:15:32.:15:37.

it there. But in 2016, look. The way that he serves here, you can see a

:15:38.:15:40.

much lower ball toss, he is just about to go off and take it there,

:15:41.:15:46.

much straighter, and that is one of the big differences, in fact the

:15:47.:15:49.

main difference that Goran brought to the table. It is so much more

:15:50.:15:53.

efficient now, it takes less effort, the ball toss more efficient, and

:15:54.:15:55.

the results are there to be seen. Just one more thought on Cilic's

:15:56.:16:19.

serve, it is not just that he is serving better, making more in play,

:16:20.:16:23.

getting more out of it, it is also harder on the return. The shorter

:16:24.:16:28.

ball toss makes it tougher to read. When you had the ball toss going up

:16:29.:16:32.

so high in the air, and so varied, you could pick it. More to the left,

:16:33.:16:41.

likely going out wide to the ad court, more to the right, likely to

:16:42.:16:43.

be aiming for the T. This is going to be one of the ways

:16:44.:17:04.

that Federer can do some damage to the Cilic serve. He can lean on that

:17:05.:17:07.

and take your time away. Some good points Federer and his

:17:08.:17:57.

first serves the start of this contest. Getting the ball back in

:17:58.:18:03.

play against both of these players has been difficult. Cilic has been

:18:04.:18:15.

getting free points -- 65% free points on his first serve. S Roger

:18:16.:18:29.

getting just under 50%. 49% is awesome, by the way. Cilic's is

:18:30.:18:35.

mind-boggling. Is that one of the differences on a grass court, that

:18:36.:18:38.

ability of Federer to block a little more than Marin is? Yes, he can make

:18:39.:18:47.

things a little shorter. It is almost like using a volley

:18:48.:18:48.

technique. You can see the comparison on

:18:49.:19:19.

Cilic's serve from 2012 to the same stage, the start of this match

:19:20.:19:23.

today, look at the number of aces and free points that he has picked

:19:24.:19:27.

up. He needs a couple more here, though. Federer pressing.

:19:28.:19:41.

That was a pretty shaky approach shot from Cilic. Federer had a good

:19:42.:19:44.

look at it, but couldn't land it. Early stages, first pressure on his

:19:45.:19:54.

serve, understandable to be a little uptight.

:19:55.:20:22.

He talked about having no nerves prior to meeting Federer in New

:20:23.:20:27.

York, he said it was the calmest he had ever felt. Not quite the same

:20:28.:20:31.

Marin Cilic here. It is certainly early days, but he

:20:32.:20:53.

needs to find that first serve to get himself on the offensive, only

:20:54.:20:55.

38% so far. Saves one break point. He has only been broken three times

:20:56.:22:27.

in the tournament, Cilic. A high percentage of break points saved, as

:22:28.:22:30.

well, so no surprise he manages to get through the first scare. And the

:22:31.:22:36.

Cilic, we have talked about how Goran simplified his serve, and it

:22:37.:22:41.

makes me think of the great serves, if not the greatest of all time,

:22:42.:22:46.

Pete Sampras. I did a clinic with him once the champions event, and I

:22:47.:22:49.

had done a piece on forehands, which was my strongest weapon, and Pete, I

:22:50.:22:55.

said, tell these people about your thoughts when you get up to the

:22:56.:22:58.

service line, what are you thinking? And he stood there and looked at me

:22:59.:23:04.

like I was in A.D8, which I might bebut he says, I just stand up

:23:05.:23:10.

there, throw the ball up and hit it. -- looked at me like I was on idiot.

:23:11.:23:19.

Talk about frustration, being on the other side of that, obviously we

:23:20.:23:23.

have seen what Pete has been able to do over the course of his career,

:23:24.:23:29.

but to know that it was natural to him was frustrating. And to have

:23:30.:23:35.

that clarity of thought. Is that what it is, clarity of thought? Or a

:23:36.:23:41.

lack of thought? Or just pure raw talent.

:23:42.:23:58.

UMPIRE: Let, first service. LAUGHTER

:23:59.:24:42.

It is getting the ball of the second service of Federer quickly back into

:24:43.:24:48.

the backhand. Cilic just locking him up there.

:24:49.:25:25.

APPLAUSE That is what Marin Cilic can do if

:25:26.:25:33.

you give him some time. His big swing is on his grand coach, said if

:25:34.:25:37.

you give him something to hit like this, he can absolutely pummel it.

:25:38.:25:50.

He is a pretty good mover for his size into the open court, but I

:25:51.:25:55.

think he is vulnerable to a ball behind him, I did think he changes

:25:56.:25:57.

direction that well. Obviously on this surface where the

:25:58.:26:09.

footing is a little less, too. Good strategy for Federer.

:26:10.:26:24.

He needs to make sure that he gets a look in on their serves when he sees

:26:25.:26:30.

them, and that off backhand could be crucial in terms of his success.

:26:31.:26:39.

When he lands his first serve, you are not going to be picking up to me

:26:40.:26:52.

points. He has already won nine out of 11 when he has landed at first

:26:53.:27:03.

serve. Severin Luthi, and even Ljubicic, just squeeze between the

:27:04.:27:04.

three men at the front. Cilic hits that serve so fast,

:27:05.:27:24.

normally you see the player taking the whips off, but with his height,

:27:25.:27:26.

he hits it flat. He doesn't really go up after it as

:27:27.:27:46.

much with his legs, it is not like it is a volleyball and he is trying

:27:47.:27:50.

to bring it down. But he is so tall he can slide it wide.

:27:51.:27:58.

You watch a player like Ernst Gulbis, or Alex Deibold Wolof, those

:27:59.:28:04.

guys leap out of the building to go up to make their serves even taller.

:28:05.:28:08.

-- Alexandr Dolgopolov. In fact, even Ljubicic when he

:28:09.:28:26.

played Milos Raonic a couple of years ago, he changed Raonic's serve

:28:27.:28:32.

and had a couple of inches added into his jump to try to do just

:28:33.:28:36.

that. To be able to hit the flat one out wide.

:28:37.:28:50.

S not many -ic players with bad serves! Ljubicic, Ivanisevic, Cilic,

:28:51.:29:07.

Raonic. Karlovic. Take that one all the way home!

:29:08.:29:13.

Help me out, boys. I think you got it.

:29:14.:29:31.

Just sticks the dismount, land the plane! That is the only downside of

:29:32.:29:40.

playing down the line, if you don't have the winner, you open a corridor

:29:41.:29:43.

across court, which is a lot of player's favourite one. And by

:29:44.:29:49.

Federer's standards, that is a pretty easy winner.

:29:50.:30:06.

UMPIRE: Game, Cilic. Another winner, 4-3.

:30:07.:30:17.

So to ditch stays in front on centre Court. Let's take you over to Court

:30:18.:30:21.

Number One where it is still on serve here between the big servers,

:30:22.:30:26.

Milos Raonic and Sam Querrey. That match, if you want to watch it, is

:30:27.:30:32.

on the red button. And a match we were following earlier on the BBC

:30:33.:30:40.

One, bath wash. 4-3 up against Joe Konta and Maria Sanchez. That match

:30:41.:30:45.

you can follow online. Back to centre.

:30:46.:30:57.

Solid so far from Cilic, who has three top-5 wins at flames. We

:30:58.:31:01.

talked about Federer at the US Open, on the way to winning there. He also

:31:02.:31:08.

won in 2010 Australia. Andy Murray in the US Open in 2009. He has also

:31:09.:31:13.

lost 11. His overall record against top five players is highlighted some

:31:14.:31:19.

of the limitations he sat in the past. He's won lost 40. Pitching

:31:20.:31:25.

himself against the very best and not ranking quite as high as the man

:31:26.:31:30.

he is taking on today. Both men holding their serve to this stage

:31:31.:31:33.

thus far. UMPIRE: Game, Federer.

:31:34.:33:18.

Federer holding onto his serve, a bit of a change of racket. No

:33:19.:33:25.

noticeable change for Federer either. With someone stepping down

:33:26.:33:31.

of the last season, came out with them little while but then went back

:33:32.:33:35.

to the family life, although he's been in the player box here the last

:33:36.:33:41.

two matches for Federer. Hard to say what no one knew the judge has been

:33:42.:33:47.

burning. They haven't had a lot of match play together since Federer

:33:48.:33:52.

and he started. Federer has been so often injured him as you've

:33:53.:33:54.

mentioned. What could someone bring to Roger

:33:55.:34:18.

Federer's game at this stage of his career?

:34:19.:34:24.

Good, question. It's not about new shots, it's about the strategy, the

:34:25.:34:26.

way he can exploit opponent's weaknesses. And probably just bring

:34:27.:34:32.

a fresh voice. How good was that? The rally itself

:34:33.:35:07.

is fantastic, then the cherry on top with the backhand smash.

:35:08.:35:12.

Still been a few question marks about the state of Roger Federer's

:35:13.:35:18.

facts, but I've seen that lead, he looks like he's in pretty good

:35:19.:35:19.

shape. I suppose that one thing he's

:35:20.:35:32.

brought to the camp is displayed a lot of these players before, and he

:35:33.:35:36.

played Cilic on three occasions, one twice. These guys for Davis Cup's

:35:37.:35:43.

team-mates for many years. Ironically he used to go to Cilic

:35:44.:35:51.

for Scouting reports on players. He called him the tactician on the

:35:52.:36:00.

Davis Cup team. Sure there's a lot of them say that he would have.

:36:01.:36:05.

There's a lot of value there. You have easily played Roger 13

:36:06.:36:31.

times, you won six. What is changed for you as we see the final point

:36:32.:36:34.

here, him mopping up this game. You beat him in Paris in 2003 after he

:36:35.:36:41.

won Wilton, beat him when he won the Australian himself in 2004. What

:36:42.:36:47.

change for you in Roger's in? It was the ability for him to actually

:36:48.:36:51.

defend. Certainly when I had success against him, I felt I was able to

:36:52.:36:55.

take his time away and that would be serving, Bolling, chipping and

:36:56.:37:00.

charging. Decedent became more consistent and aggressive, he gave

:37:01.:37:05.

me less opportunities to move forward on a thing coinciding with

:37:06.:37:09.

the stars coming at the more abrasive, when you give him time to

:37:10.:37:11.

use all the different strengths, that's when it can be a very long

:37:12.:37:17.

afternoon. You can see the conditions changing here in 2001,

:37:18.:37:23.

Federer serve them probably 100% first and second serves. When he won

:37:24.:37:30.

the title in two years later, his serve was 10% behind his first

:37:31.:37:33.

serve. Opposite ends of the spectrum. When you see him dictating

:37:34.:37:36.

from the back of the court, still looking to be offensive. It's a good

:37:37.:37:38.

combination. Federer going toe to toe with the

:37:39.:38:57.

backhand 's there, trying to drive through the ball. He's been slicing

:38:58.:39:02.

so frequently through the tournament that nearly half of his backhand

:39:03.:39:13.

shots have been slices. But with this bigger racket that he switched

:39:14.:39:16.

to larger size frame a couple of years ago, he's been more offensive

:39:17.:39:23.

at that backhand slide coming closer to the baseline, hit more over the

:39:24.:39:30.

ball than he did with his prior racket. I would argue his backhand

:39:31.:39:33.

is probably better today than it was when he won his 17 major titles.

:39:34.:39:36.

With the other racket! But Novak Djokovic has been a stopper for him.

:39:37.:39:40.

When he's has chances, hasn't he? Is no longer here. One time Novak was

:39:41.:39:43.

really under the weight we thought Roger might get to 18, this man

:39:44.:39:50.

Cilic blitzed him at the US Open. Should Cory was waiting in the

:39:51.:39:57.

final. Pretty easy to hand Roger the trophy at that point, right? That's

:39:58.:39:58.

what everyone was thinking. That's asking a lot of himself, even

:39:59.:40:33.

with his considerable talent. He's been searching for a

:40:34.:41:31.

comfortable place, you struck deep, try to drive it... The consistency

:41:32.:41:41.

has been there over the years, not a lot he can do about that. 6-5,

:41:42.:41:44.

Cilic. Cilic has faced a couple of break

:41:45.:41:56.

points, but let's see where he's taken that first served. Of the

:41:57.:41:59.

tournament, he's been targeting the forehand of the right-handed players

:42:00.:42:03.

and he's doing it again today. You can see, 73% of the time in the

:42:04.:42:08.

deuce court, he's gone wide, he's got three aces there. Federer has

:42:09.:42:12.

been on the T serve in the ad court but when he's gone wide, and he's

:42:13.:42:16.

landed it, he's perfect. Two aces out why for Cilic. To steal one of

:42:17.:42:21.

your favourite words, counterintuitive. To mostly but home

:42:22.:42:26.

that was sounds strange. You would think you would be going at

:42:27.:42:30.

Federer's backhand. But here's the reality, Federer is a good at

:42:31.:42:33.

blocking the server of return with his chip backhand, his forehand will

:42:34.:42:37.

block it but it's more if a drive flat block. You can get more free

:42:38.:42:41.

point if you go at his forehand if you land the first served. And also

:42:42.:42:46.

when you are going with the firepower, with the strand, if you

:42:47.:42:49.

hit that spot you are opening up the weakness. If the ball comes back,

:42:50.:42:53.

then Cilic has the opportunity to go into the backhand with the second

:42:54.:42:57.

shot. It's a tactic to look out for an attack stick that's working well

:42:58.:43:11.

so far. -- it's a tactic. With Federer's awareness, do you think is

:43:12.:43:14.

good to start moving over there a little bit? You would hope so. We

:43:15.:43:20.

will see if we get to a tie-breaker. Cilic is overcome on the left

:43:21.:43:53.

challenge. A valuable point is well at this

:43:54.:44:10.

stage of the set. Two challenges remaining. Just

:44:11.:44:30.

putting a little bit of doubt in Cilic's mind before a tie-break am

:44:31.:44:33.

it if they are headed in that direction. It's not been a tactic

:44:34.:44:41.

for Federer, really. Cilic loves to drive his returns anyway. There's a

:44:42.:44:44.

good reason Roger is hugging the baseline.

:44:45.:45:00.

UMPIRE: Game, Federer. Federer able to take this opening set into a

:45:01.:45:19.

tie-break. Doesn't have the best career tie-break record, Cilic. In

:45:20.:45:33.

deficit this year, 17, lost 13. -- he 17, lost 13.

:45:34.:45:56.

Federer doing well to nullify the serve, get into the rally but the

:45:57.:46:01.

slice backhand. Then looking to be aggressive. First point of the

:46:02.:46:05.

tie-break. How good was that? That was taking

:46:06.:46:53.

it to Roger. Smart return, went right through the middle of the

:46:54.:46:57.

core, pushing Federer back, then he glanced at 106 mile an hour forehand

:46:58.:47:03.

to steal a second point. Not sure if that's the fastest in the

:47:04.:47:05.

tournament, but that's the biggest number I've heard so far in the

:47:06.:47:07.

championship on forehand. Before the match, you wouldn't have

:47:08.:47:46.

know in the direction that Cilic has enjoyed, he's landed both of those.

:47:47.:47:52.

It's pretty incredible that Cilic is wanting 100 percentage of serving

:47:53.:47:57.

points that he did in his previous matches. Entering the quality of

:47:58.:48:01.

Roger's ability to blunt big servers.

:48:02.:48:31.

He's had a good success rate against six foot four or above players and

:48:32.:48:42.

Grand Slams, 132, lost six. -- won 32.

:48:43.:49:29.

Just enough about serve to force Federer to lean, another ace out

:49:30.:49:37.

there and a whole handful of set points.

:49:38.:50:10.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE He survives, one of the four set

:50:11.:50:18.

points. Cilic just checking with the umpire

:50:19.:50:37.

that first served. UMPIRE: Game. What are wonderful

:50:38.:51:27.

tie-breaker that was from Cilic. He grabs the opening set 7-6. We knew

:51:28.:51:35.

with the big weapons he has he was going to be a danger man against

:51:36.:51:38.

Roger Federer, so it's Cilic that has taken the first set. We're going

:51:39.:51:43.

to leave this on BBC Two. It continues right now on BBC One. If

:51:44.:51:48.

you want to keep watching, switch over to BBC One. Just before we head

:51:49.:51:52.

to Court Number One, I can show you that out on court 18, Jamie Murray

:51:53.:51:57.

of Great Britain and his partner Bruno Suarez are facing the French

:51:58.:52:05.

do wrote that are serving for the first set against the number three

:52:06.:52:08.

seeds. If you want to watch Jamie's match, it's on the red button. And

:52:09.:52:15.

the result from the match we were watching other, third round match.

:52:16.:52:23.

It's been won by Babos, 7-5 in the third set. A rough adult how on

:52:24.:52:30.

court and number two. A shame for Sanchez and content. They pushed the

:52:31.:52:33.

number five seeds but it ended in a loss. As I said, we're heading off

:52:34.:52:45.

to number one court. Melas Raonic has taken the first set. It's on

:52:46.:52:49.

serve in the second, let's join our commentators for this one. Peter

:52:50.:52:51.

Fryman at and John Imber Dell. No bother for Raonic. So, tell us,

:52:52.:53:09.

Peter. You mentioned earlier on about that snap of the wrist at the

:53:10.:53:14.

key moment. You've got to take a punch, haven't you, on which way you

:53:15.:53:17.

think it's going to go? Is there any giveaway clues in the way that he

:53:18.:53:21.

throws the ball up and he had said that you can make an educated guess?

:53:22.:53:29.

Unfortunately not. Guessing generally speaking is the worst

:53:30.:53:34.

thing you can do. You want to be able to see some little tidbit and

:53:35.:53:39.

where he tosses the ball, but Raonic can hit the kicker or slice or flat

:53:40.:53:45.

one all from the same ball toss. That one looked to be a

:53:46.:53:51.

kick-serve... Until he hits it, you really can't guess. Where it's going

:53:52.:53:55.

to go, until the ball has travelled three or four feet and by that time,

:53:56.:53:59.

with the power that he hits it, it's often too late. That was actually a

:54:00.:54:07.

fantastic slow Mo, you can see the revolutions of the ball. As easy to

:54:08.:54:12.

follow spinning and spinning, it's like a planet or meteor up in space.

:54:13.:54:18.

If you watch the ball, you can see how many revolutions it's doing.

:54:19.:54:21.

Obviously that impacts what is hitting the ground, massive great

:54:22.:54:25.

kick off the surface. You can see it coming screen there. Look at it

:54:26.:54:28.

going, like a top! So it is. He's hitting the lines with enormous

:54:29.:55:01.

regularity. I'm sure Raonic must be thrilled to death with the form he

:55:02.:55:03.

showed in these first 43 minutes. Sam Querrey is hanging on in there

:55:04.:55:34.

at the moment. Impressive, impressive. Vigilant, if you will,

:55:35.:55:42.

from Raonic to continue attacking, taking chances. It's not in his

:55:43.:55:45.

nature. Ace number five. Actually, yet

:55:46.:55:59.

another unreturned will serve from Querrey. The key thing is, there are

:56:00.:56:03.

less from him than there are from Raonic.

:56:04.:56:33.

The Querrey serve under threat again.

:56:34.:56:48.

That was a very measured response there to that situation.

:56:49.:57:06.

UMPIRE: Two it games all. You went for the whole enchilada. Because he

:57:07.:57:24.

wasn't able to hit a winner, wasn't able to place it well enough, pretty

:57:25.:57:30.

simple response from Querrey required. Just bung into the open

:57:31.:57:31.

court. That is four service games in a row

:57:32.:57:46.

the Querrey has been under threat. One break was enough in the first

:57:47.:57:48.

set for Raonic. Carlos Moreira and the rest of the

:57:49.:58:51.

Raonic team are in situ, but John macro, if you're wondering why where

:58:52.:58:56.

he is, why the camera is not panning on him every five seconds, he is

:58:57.:59:00.

commentating on ESPN on centre Court.

:59:01.:59:21.

He is sending messages to Raonic all the while, saying doing OK. More

:59:22.:59:28.

than OK! Doing brilliantly. Querrey is a bit irritated about

:59:29.:00:00.

losing that opportunity. It was no more than a half chance, but Querrey

:00:01.:00:08.

now feeling the pressure to make the half chances, because he is seeing

:00:09.:00:12.

so few opportunities. That is another game to 15 for Raonic.

:00:13.:00:24.

He is metronomic as far as the serving is concerned, Milos Raonic,

:00:25.:00:35.

that is 15 games of tennis in 48 minutes, so they are not messing

:00:36.:00:38.

around, and that is just picture perfect, is it not? The skies above

:00:39.:00:51.

number one. Raonic has always had a great serve, but it is the addition

:00:52.:00:55.

of this net play, of effective forecourt play that really is making

:00:56.:01:03.

a huge difference to Raonic's ability to impose himself an

:01:04.:01:08.

opponents. Because of course he used to serve, and he missed the first

:01:09.:01:11.

serve, he would say back on the second one, and when playing against

:01:12.:01:17.

quicker players, he would be outmanoeuvred. So in the context of

:01:18.:01:23.

improving his volleying, what specific, is it his footwork? It is

:01:24.:01:29.

largely mental. It is mental, because the most important aspect of

:01:30.:01:33.

being a good net player is being able to defend the net, and to do

:01:34.:01:36.

that, you have to time your split step vertically. You have to get

:01:37.:01:41.

your two feet down onto the court in perfect balance, at roughly the

:01:42.:01:47.

instant the opponent is striking the passing shot, striking the ball.

:01:48.:01:49.

Just takes practice. And awareness. UMPIRE: Mr Querrey is challenging

:01:50.:02:15.

the ball on the far side line, the ball was called in. And so few serve

:02:16.:02:21.

and volley players, they don't come to the net but often. There isn't a

:02:22.:02:25.

great deal of awareness on the tour of the proper way to move.

:02:26.:02:31.

It is surprising that the players don't bring in old school coaches

:02:32.:02:35.

are little more often. It certainly helped Federer when

:02:36.:02:52.

Edberg came in. With every passing year, there are fewer old school

:02:53.:02:56.

coaches, because the old school are getting older!

:02:57.:03:10.

It is always with the passage of time you find yourself being

:03:11.:03:32.

fascinated by the obituaries column in newspapers.

:03:33.:03:42.

Oh, Sam! You didn't want to do that. A rare error really off the Querrey

:03:43.:03:53.

forehand. Usually so secure. UMPIRE: New balls, please. That is

:03:54.:04:09.

the most straightforward service game that Sam Querrey has had for a

:04:10.:04:19.

while. And as one-sided as this match has seemed over the first 52

:04:20.:04:29.

minutes, it is still just 3-3 in the second. If this was a boxing

:04:30.:04:36.

contest, you would feel that Querrey would be three rounds ahead, but he

:04:37.:04:45.

is just one. It is a genius scoring system. It allows players to stay

:04:46.:04:47.

competitive until the bitter end. And that is why all these myriad

:04:48.:05:06.

attempts there are to find a tennis equivalent of Twenty20 cricket are

:05:07.:05:09.

falling by the wayside, because the integrity of the game is dependent

:05:10.:05:10.

on the scoring system. Raonic making it look very simple at

:05:11.:05:19.

the moment. These games are coming and going in

:05:20.:05:45.

the blink of a knife. UMPIRE: Raonic leads 4-3 second set,

:05:46.:06:33.

and one sets to love. Not the slightest possibility of Sam Querrey

:06:34.:06:38.

getting into that game. Are we seeing potentially here as Raonic

:06:39.:06:42.

gets better and better on grass, are we seeing a kind of Sampras like

:06:43.:06:48.

game returning to Wimbledon? It certainly appears that that is a

:06:49.:06:54.

possibility. Raonic not quite the athlete that Pete Sampras was, so he

:06:55.:06:59.

could play the chip and charge style, and be very intimidating at

:07:00.:07:06.

it, and also the serve and volley game, and be very intimidating.

:07:07.:07:12.

However, Raonic one of the few guys who probably does serve as well as

:07:13.:07:16.

Pete Sampras, and I regard Sampras is having the greatest serve of all

:07:17.:07:23.

time. So, yes. I don't know about you, but I think this is the best

:07:24.:07:30.

tennis I have ever seen Milos Raonic play. I thought the best tennis I

:07:31.:07:34.

had ever seen him play was at Queen's in the final, but this might

:07:35.:07:37.

be better than that, because that was arguably the best game of men's

:07:38.:07:42.

tennis on grass this year that has been available for most people to

:07:43.:07:49.

see. Up until a set and 4-1, that was the best he played, but he might

:07:50.:07:52.

actually be playing better now, because he is up against a much

:07:53.:08:00.

bigger server, and still. And he has 2/2 more weeks of McEnroe influence

:08:01.:08:01.

in there. Oh, a ridiculous shot from Querrey,

:08:02.:08:38.

and a magnificent shot from Raonic to win it. This is scary good from

:08:39.:08:46.

both guys. He just said, I will give it a shot, why not, hits a perfect

:08:47.:08:52.

one right at Raonic's feet and he still digs it out.

:08:53.:08:56.

UMPIRE: Mr Raonic challenging the call on the left service line, the

:08:57.:09:04.

ball was called in. Hawk-Eye in the commentary box says that was long.

:09:05.:09:12.

Bad call from the commentary box! UMPIRE: 30-15. Surprise, surprise.

:09:13.:09:24.

UMPIRE: Mr Raonic has two challenges remaining.

:09:25.:09:46.

You can always sensed the vibe of a court just by the noise and by the

:09:47.:09:55.

general ambience, and this crowd are really in this match. We are not

:09:56.:10:03.

having many blistering rallies, we had one in that last game which I am

:10:04.:10:07.

sure we will show you again soon, but this is really compelling stuff.

:10:08.:10:14.

Nice to see a match played at this pace, almost two sets completed and

:10:15.:10:19.

we still haven't played one hour. That is just nasty. I'm sure the

:10:20.:10:39.

crowd on Court One today will say, we haven't got Federer or Murray,

:10:40.:10:43.

but they have got two intriguing games, and this one is certainly

:10:44.:10:44.

living up to its billing. And this guy very much a potential

:10:45.:10:52.

champion here. S not playing like that! That is the

:10:53.:11:10.

first time he has gone and got caught out in that situation. And

:11:11.:11:17.

that is the challenge for Raonic. We saw against Murray he was up a set

:11:18.:11:21.

and 4-1, fell away drastically, so he needs to maintain this level of

:11:22.:11:23.

play for another couple of hours. And that of course is the incentive

:11:24.:11:35.

for Querrey. He has got to believe that Raonic can't keep playing this

:11:36.:11:38.

well indefinitely, so at some point he is going to get a chance, and

:11:39.:11:42.

that is when he has got to take it. Precisely.

:11:43.:11:49.

And that was a chance. Now there is a good example. Querrey attempting

:11:50.:12:00.

to come into the net, almost to take the net away from Raonic, so he is

:12:01.:12:05.

feeling the pressure, the Canadian constantly coming forward.

:12:06.:12:15.

But a couple of errant shots from Raonic.

:12:16.:12:22.

And it has been a while since we have had 30-30 on a Raonic serve.

:12:23.:12:31.

Querrey has to banish thoughts of that forehand into the net and

:12:32.:12:32.

think, this might be my moment. Two forehand errors. And a backhand,

:12:33.:12:56.

three unforced error is from Querrey. He had real chances in this

:12:57.:13:00.

game. And in the final analysis, how key

:13:01.:13:16.

will those couple of points P? Well left by the Canadian. That could

:13:17.:13:20.

have been Querrey's chance, but it wasn't.

:13:21.:13:29.

SUE BARKER: And we will be back to see query macro serve to stay in

:13:30.:13:32.

this set in a moment. Let's update you with what is happening

:13:33.:13:35.

elsewhere. Federer dropped the opening set, and now he is in

:13:36.:13:39.

trouble in the second, Cilic leads 4-2 with that break of serve. That

:13:40.:13:46.

is live over on BBC One. Over on court 18, Jamie Murray and his

:13:47.:13:52.

partner Bruno Soares, than of three seats, they have dropped the opening

:13:53.:13:56.

set and are break of serve down in the second set to Roger-Vasselin and

:13:57.:14:02.

Julien Benneteau of France. And this one is available online, on Court

:14:03.:14:09.

Two, Jonny Marray and his partner adult Shannon is in, they are 2-0

:14:10.:14:17.

down in the opening set, so one break of serve down in that match.

:14:18.:14:21.

That is just starting on Court Number Two, and it is available

:14:22.:14:28.

online. So all of that going on here today, it is men's quarterfinals

:14:29.:14:34.

day, and back we go to court 11. -- number one.

:14:35.:14:40.

JOHN INVERDALE: It is a key moment in this North American face-off here

:14:41.:14:43.

with Querrey serving to stay in the second set, and this is what

:14:44.:14:47.

happened in the first set. All the way to 4-4 on serve, one break of

:14:48.:14:51.

serve, first set to Raonic, and here is a chance to duplicate that exact

:14:52.:14:53.

scenario. Well, what a shot into the absolute

:14:54.:15:46.

apex of the court from Raonic there. PETER FLEMING: Who is this guy? It

:15:47.:15:52.

even had a bit of side spin on it, to take it away from Querrey.

:15:53.:16:41.

Well, Querrey moved his feet really well there, because that ball was

:16:42.:16:45.

coming in like a rocket. Someone in the crowd just shouted,

:16:46.:17:05.

plate again, Sam! -- play it again, Sam!

:17:06.:17:11.

That was distinctly off note and of key. But he still has a .45 each.

:17:12.:17:24.

And he makes it. UMPIRE: Five games all, second set.

:17:25.:17:44.

I don't suppose anybody in the crowd has ever shouted that before in one

:17:45.:17:45.

of Querrey's games, do you? No one has shouted come on, Tim,

:17:46.:18:20.

yet, so that is one thing. Look at his reaction, he knows that was

:18:21.:18:29.

another chance. He is making the right moves. Although not so crazy

:18:30.:18:36.

about the fact that he never took a split step. A split step so often

:18:37.:18:42.

helps you gather your balance so that you will shot making can be

:18:43.:18:45.

more precise. I think a lot of players have the

:18:46.:19:10.

stake in impression that if you keep running, you will get there quicker,

:19:11.:19:14.

maybe so, but you will hit the shot slighty out of balance because of

:19:15.:19:21.

that. I don't see the point. We will get you to do a masterclass on the

:19:22.:19:26.

split step at this next change of ends. That is ambitious!

:19:27.:19:48.

Oh, look at that! Great hands, great touch. 6-5.

:19:49.:19:59.

OK, you are getting your moneys worth here at home, because you have

:20:00.:20:04.

had a service masterclass earlier on from Peter Fleming. Talk about the

:20:05.:20:10.

split step. What does it do and specific stages of a point or shot?

:20:11.:20:17.

You want Europe to feet to land, now he can move either way equally

:20:18.:20:21.

quickly. That is the perfect way to do it, and the better you can time

:20:22.:20:32.

that split step, the two feet land, and it is a nanosecond after your

:20:33.:20:36.

opponent hits the ball, so you can see where the ball is going, and as

:20:37.:20:42.

soon as you land, you are off. In civil terms were people who do

:20:43.:20:46.

aerobics or whatever at home, it is almost like a coursed ability

:20:47.:20:50.

exercise. It gets you to a position of mutual, if you like, from which

:20:51.:20:54.

you can then launch whatever direction you want to go. It is not

:20:55.:20:59.

rocket science, just copy what he did there. Just land on two feet, be

:21:00.:21:03.

equally balanced front to back, left to right, and you are good. Querrey

:21:04.:21:12.

will need to be good here, because yet again the advantage that Raonic

:21:13.:21:15.

has had of serving first, he is serving to stay in the set.

:21:16.:21:35.

He is doing it again, that fantastic slice into Querrey's forehand and

:21:36.:21:40.

then lovely down the line. I watched a lot of the juniors play

:21:41.:22:04.

yesterday, top juniors. And across three or four hours, maybe,

:22:05.:22:07.

cumulatively, if I saw two slices in that time, that is probably one more

:22:08.:22:11.

than I did see. But it is such a great weapon, isn't

:22:12.:22:15.

it? Absolutely, because it also is a

:22:16.:22:30.

great way to take your opponent out of their rhythm. Slices sometimes

:22:31.:22:37.

are more difficult shot to return, especially on a grass court where it

:22:38.:22:39.

slides through the court. For guys hitting the forehand

:22:40.:22:48.

aggressively, it forces them to put top-spin on it. Oh, Sam! Goodness

:22:49.:22:55.

me. All those opportunities he had and didn't take, and now suddenly

:22:56.:23:00.

again, this is what Raonic did to him in the first set, almost coming

:23:01.:23:05.

up on the blindside, and thanks to a couple of errors from the American,

:23:06.:23:09.

here we are, Milos Raonic with two points for a two sets to love lead.

:23:10.:23:16.

And the crowd know how big this moment might be.

:23:17.:23:38.

Oh, that forehand let him down again. And Milos Raonic is two

:23:39.:23:43.

thirds of the way to a Wimbledon semifinal.

:23:44.:23:52.

Sam Querrey walking the tightrope right now, and there is such a fine

:23:53.:24:05.

line between... Well, being a Grand Slam champion, and being a

:24:06.:24:11.

quarterfinalist, a semifinalist, a guy who almost gets there but just

:24:12.:24:18.

never quite gets across the line, and so far today, these two have

:24:19.:24:21.

been absolutely neck and neck apart from the two games on Querrey's

:24:22.:24:29.

serve where he has thrown in three or four unforced errors in key

:24:30.:24:36.

games. In both games! If you give your opponent four unforced error

:24:37.:24:40.

is, you will get broken. But again, look at the number of net approach

:24:41.:24:45.

points won, Raonic 12 out of 15, very has done well when he came in,

:24:46.:24:54.

just came in half the time. Break points won, on a night when Wales

:24:55.:25:01.

are playing Portugal, if Portugal got 95% of possession but Wales get

:25:02.:25:07.

one chance and Joe Allen Gareth Bale or whoever it, that is all that

:25:08.:25:16.

matters -- whoever it might be takes it, that is all that matters. That

:25:17.:25:21.

is the ball game. On the other side of the coin, if you are in Milos

:25:22.:25:26.

Raonic's camp, you are thrilled with the way that he has been able to

:25:27.:25:31.

maintain a very, very strong presence and high level of

:25:32.:25:37.

effectiveness. Querrey hasn't got a sniff on Raonic's serve, has he? Not

:25:38.:25:43.

winning points in a lot of games. And so the pressure has remained on

:25:44.:25:51.

the American, and he has succumbed to it, really. So far. So that is

:25:52.:25:55.

the bad news for Sam Querrey. The good news is that he has lost the

:25:56.:26:02.

first two sets, largely of his own back. If he can pull himself

:26:03.:26:08.

together and just calm himself, steel himself a little more so that

:26:09.:26:12.

he doesn't make unforced errors like that one, then he is still in this

:26:13.:26:17.

match. But of course the pressure is greater with every passing game, and

:26:18.:26:23.

again, for the third set running, Raonic is going to serve first, so

:26:24.:26:27.

Querrey is going to be chasing his tail from the word go, and that is

:26:28.:26:31.

what it has been all the way through by the very nature of it, because of

:26:32.:26:34.

the way he has made his mistakes at the time that he has made them, that

:26:35.:26:40.

is the problem he has got. Yes, he has to just dig in, he has to almost

:26:41.:26:46.

convince himself that this is doable, that he can win this match

:26:47.:26:57.

and that all he needs to do is to buckets of up -- Buck himself up a

:26:58.:27:06.

little bit, round at those unforced error is. Raonic took a toilet break

:27:07.:27:14.

there, he is back now. Our ace producer here, Dave, when we walked

:27:15.:27:22.

in and are half -- one and a half hours ago, he said he had chocolate

:27:23.:27:30.

supplies, when do we want them, and we said, at the start of the third

:27:31.:27:35.

set, and you said it could be two thirds of the way through the match,

:27:36.:27:39.

do you still think that? It was just a line! But you never know. If

:27:40.:27:49.

Querrey does get into automaton mode where he starts banging down aces,

:27:50.:27:50.

this one could go a long time. Pretty safe to say that Querrey will

:27:51.:28:15.

have to go to those lengths, because Raonic looks so secure.

:28:16.:29:08.

Nice and easy does it. So quick, so simple, but a few very serious shots

:29:09.:29:24.

being fired across the bows of everybody else left in this

:29:25.:29:29.

tournament here by Milos Raonic. I would say so, and Querrey needs to

:29:30.:29:32.

do something to turn the tables. Immediately.

:29:33.:29:40.

And he has to banish thoughts of those mistakes he made at the end of

:29:41.:29:44.

the last set. And I'd say the start to the

:29:45.:30:08.

exercise comes on his serve. He needs to start holding a lot more

:30:09.:30:10.

easily, with more regularity. I think that is the first ball that

:30:11.:30:39.

Querrey has hit that has hit the net and gone over. He is smiling, so

:30:40.:30:43.

maybe he feels that the net has changed sides now. Yeah, that's the

:30:44.:30:53.

ticket. Right. And the verdict on that?

:30:54.:31:13.

Querrey screamed at himself. Just dumped it into the open court, but

:31:14.:31:21.

got away with it. Great shot! At the end of a

:31:22.:32:02.

fantastic rally. Sure there is a part of Sam Querrey that is going,

:32:03.:32:06.

what is going on here? I have never seen you play like this before.

:32:07.:32:11.

Don't you know who I am? I am the man who beat Djokovic.

:32:12.:33:12.

Well, you can sometimes read too much into body language, but a

:33:13.:33:17.

definite slump in Sam Querrey's shoulders there. Raonic stays out in

:33:18.:33:30.

front and we will be back here just a moment, but we go back to centre.

:33:31.:33:40.

Cilic is to set sub against Federer on the Centre Court. Federer is

:33:41.:33:43.

missing some key points, and we have never seen that from him before. He

:33:44.:33:49.

is in real trouble. Federer 2-1 up in this set and fighting hard. That

:33:50.:33:54.

is live on BBC One. We will keep you up-to-date with that year as we

:33:55.:34:10.

rejoin Court One. I suppose Querrey's rather lumbering demeanour

:34:11.:34:12.

as he walked to the chair are there, and you could actually see that,

:34:13.:34:18.

that is born of frustration and just thinking is there any possibility of

:34:19.:34:21.

this guys level dropping at some point to allow me into this match?

:34:22.:34:30.

At this point in time, you could forgive him for being slightly

:34:31.:34:35.

tomorrow left because Raonic has served 13 service games and he has

:34:36.:34:41.

lost seven points on serve total. Seven point! That is one every other

:34:42.:34:48.

game. How is Querrey supports to think that he will mount a challenge

:34:49.:34:53.

to break the Canadian if he continues in this vein? We will have

:34:54.:34:56.

this conversation at the beginning of the next game if Querrey manages

:34:57.:34:59.

to hold here. If he does. If it is two apiece after this game,

:35:00.:35:22.

I want you to come up with a return strategy for Sam Querrey in the next

:35:23.:35:23.

game. If Sam Querrey. Raonic was too good

:35:24.:35:50.

for him, he now knows he is too good for everybody. This is when you know

:35:51.:35:54.

things are going your way. This was a great passing shot. Raonic just

:35:55.:35:58.

managed to get his racket on it, bounced it back over the net.

:35:59.:36:12.

Perfect winner. I think that comes under the heading of when your

:36:13.:36:20.

heart, you're hot. When you're hot, you're scolding. Milos Raonic chuck

:36:21.:36:31.

the moment is scolding Sam Querrey. Goodness me. That is the first time

:36:32.:36:42.

Querrey has been red-hot two. Yet, and this is what he needs to be do

:36:43.:36:48.

-- doing if he wants to be competitive. He needs to hit some

:36:49.:36:53.

great shots. That is what he did against Djokovic. Why not? Goodness.

:36:54.:37:05.

That was a shocking call. That was so far in. It was just one of those

:37:06.:37:09.

impetuous things that creep out suddenly for no obvious reason. So

:37:10.:37:22.

just as well Querrey did that. He's still maintaining a genial

:37:23.:37:28.

disposition. Yeah, and that just may be helpful for him. Well, the

:37:29.:37:40.

quality of some of the hitting here...

:37:41.:37:59.

That is well played by Querrey. Neat hands on the approach shot. And no

:38:00.:38:12.

panic. When the volley had to be made.

:38:13.:38:23.

Not without yet more footers. Here we go. Mr Fleming, what does he do

:38:24.:38:35.

on Earth now to get any kind of impact in this game? Well, first

:38:36.:38:39.

things first. He needs to change where he is standing to return

:38:40.:38:46.

serve. OK. And it is not that where he is standing is wrong, it's just

:38:47.:38:48.

that he needs to show something different to hopefully distract

:38:49.:38:56.

Raonic a little bit. Even if he doesn't make any returns, he has to

:38:57.:39:00.

do something to take Raonic out of this rhythm. Whatever he does. Can't

:39:01.:39:07.

work any less. Querrey was so far out of court

:39:08.:39:41.

there. This is a proper masterclass. In attacking tennis.

:39:42.:39:57.

Scoff that on the ground, but it was still beautifully executed. And he

:39:58.:40:09.

almost can't miss at the moment. What a great feeling that must be.

:40:10.:40:26.

Raonic has now had 14 service games. And has lost seven points

:40:27.:40:32.

cumulatively in those. That is why the scoreboard looks like that.

:40:33.:40:42.

Well, that went well. From Querrey's point of view, that game. And

:40:43.:40:57.

obviously this was the volley from Raonic that went over the net and

:40:58.:41:02.

then bounced back onto his side. And there is nothing you can do about

:41:03.:41:11.

that. Except smile ruefully. And hope. The racket so far has been

:41:12.:41:23.

taken out of Querrey's hands. Maybe that is an exaggeration because

:41:24.:41:26.

Querrey has contributed to the position he is in biplane to very

:41:27.:41:35.

bad service games. -- by playing two very bad service games. His level

:41:36.:41:43.

dipped at the key moment. But of course, the fact that Raonic was

:41:44.:41:47.

holding so easily contributed to perhaps the uneasiness of Querrey.

:41:48.:41:54.

Well, less than an hour and a half of this match, and we may not be far

:41:55.:42:07.

from the finishing line. Oh, no. You can't let that ball go. Querrey

:42:08.:42:14.

could have reached this. He has two hit it could be think it is anywhere

:42:15.:42:18.

near the sideline. It wasn't even close, in fact. Come on.

:42:19.:42:29.

Surely Querrey can feel the aggression that Raonic is attacking

:42:30.:42:33.

him with. Well, that was straightforward

:42:34.:43:36.

enough for the American. Quarter to three on a glorious summer

:43:37.:43:41.

afternoon. In the UK, so what does that mean? It is quirky to seven on

:43:42.:43:47.

the West Coast of America and Canada so I suspect a lot of people have

:43:48.:43:50.

said their alarm for around about now. And those people in Vancouver

:43:51.:44:02.

will be a lot happier than those in LA.

:44:03.:44:15.

Also because they are not breathing all of that smog, right?

:44:16.:44:32.

And they don't have a presidential election coming up. No kidding.

:44:33.:44:44.

We'll get your views on that later. Yeah, not likely.

:44:45.:44:57.

Well, the first trump card for Raonic is that serve and yet again

:44:58.:45:06.

he is closing in on another simple service game. That was like Pete

:45:07.:45:14.

Sampras. But, a despairing swing from Querrey

:45:15.:45:40.

the baseball player at that pitch. I guess the good news is, he won a

:45:41.:45:47.

point there. You are a real half-full kind of guy, aren't you?

:45:48.:45:52.

Welcomer here are some facts and figures that will show you that

:45:53.:45:55.

throughout the whole tournament, he has won 82% of the points on his

:45:56.:46:05.

first serve, but today, 92%. This is a battle of the heavyweights. Look

:46:06.:46:10.

at that differential as well. 60-81 today. The battle of the

:46:11.:46:14.

heavyweights, but Querrey has been on the ropes from the word go and he

:46:15.:46:19.

discount get off. Well, first of all, to win 60% of your second serve

:46:20.:46:23.

points throughout the tournament, that is astounding. To be at 81%

:46:24.:46:32.

shows that Raonic has been absolutely dominate from the back of

:46:33.:46:37.

the court, because he has not served and volleyed many times at all on

:46:38.:46:40.

the second serve, but he has attacked the net and won so many

:46:41.:46:46.

points in the forecourt, he has demoralised Querrey. Querrey needs

:46:47.:46:50.

to somehow Buck himself up a little bit here and steel himself and say

:46:51.:46:59.

he is not going down this easily. At least go to a breaker. And if we go

:47:00.:47:08.

back to the toss of the coin, right at the start, it was so key. Because

:47:09.:47:16.

Raonic won the serve or rather won the toss, elected to serve, and he

:47:17.:47:20.

has been in the box seat ever since and Querrey has been chasing him

:47:21.:47:22.

from the word go. We will never know how important the

:47:23.:47:52.

coin toss was. Could have played a role. Nine aces each.

:47:53.:48:51.

It was there to be hit, and boy was it hit. And yet again, in marked

:48:52.:49:00.

contrast to when Raonic is serving, here it is Querrey under pressure.

:49:01.:49:16.

Well, that was a horrible volley from Sam Querrey, an easy winner

:49:17.:49:26.

from Raonic. Yes, one of the first point is that they played today

:49:27.:49:33.

where Raonic showed poor awareness. It was an easy volley for Querrey,

:49:34.:49:40.

just ducked it. And on a second serve, to all intents and purposes,

:49:41.:49:41.

this is match point. Perhaps just a little too passive

:49:42.:50:05.

from Raonic there. It is tempting, isn't it? Because Querrey has had so

:50:06.:50:11.

many unforced errors in big games. He may get the chance to do it

:50:12.:50:13.

again. Well played, Sam Querrey. His heart

:50:14.:50:33.

must have been fluttering a bit at that break point. And we have been

:50:34.:50:41.

here before. So their celebrations are on hold just a

:50:42.:51:03.

little bit longer. Yeah, they've been rather more subdued than say

:51:04.:51:09.

the Aussie fanatics, haven't they? Is that not systematic of the

:51:10.:51:10.

nation? -- symptomatic. Ten aces each, but that is the only

:51:11.:51:41.

statistic that Querrey is level on. Well, what a beautiful volley from

:51:42.:51:48.

Raonic, it really was and it left Querrey at sixes and sevens and

:51:49.:51:52.

eights and nines. He just did not know what to do about that. Yeah,

:51:53.:51:57.

but again that is the symptom of not taking a split step. He was just

:51:58.:52:01.

running and had to stop. That was all he was left with. I am not

:52:02.:52:20.

finished yet, says Querrey. A despairing lunge from Raonic, almost

:52:21.:52:24.

a despairing forehand from Querrey, but it did the job. So solid.

:52:25.:52:44.

John McEnroe, who is commentating on Centre Court on the Federer match

:52:45.:52:50.

against Cilic, he will enjoy watching the rerun of that.

:52:51.:53:22.

Well played, Sam Querrey. Hanging in on that one. That is about one of

:53:23.:53:37.

the first, if not the first approach shot that Raonic has missed today.

:53:38.:53:42.

Only for the second time in this match, Querrey has got to 30 on the

:53:43.:53:51.

Raonic serve. That is extraordinary. Didn't do him much good, though.

:53:52.:54:07.

Well, a big sigh from Sam Querrey as he sat them there, because he is

:54:08.:54:12.

going to have to do what he had to do in the first set and in the

:54:13.:54:16.

second set and on both of those occasions, he came unstuck. He is

:54:17.:54:19.

going to have to serve this time to stay in the match. And he has two

:54:20.:54:27.

just keep doing what he is doing. Yes. Well, breaking for the match is

:54:28.:54:41.

just somewhat more nerve wracking than breaking for a set. Soap Raonic

:54:42.:54:48.

also has two fight those jitters that sometimes arise when you're so

:54:49.:54:51.

close and yet so far from victory. Well, that's the scene that we would

:54:52.:55:09.

love to have had to Mondays ago and it has taken as ten days to get to

:55:10.:55:13.

that point, but it is just a magnificent sight here on Court One

:55:14.:55:19.

at the moment. And there is Alan Jones, champion here in 1969. And

:55:20.:55:33.

here is Milos Raonic. He could be a champion here at some point in the

:55:34.:55:35.

future and it might be this year. Well, he lost the first point in

:55:36.:57:54.

that game, and after that he was OK. So he gets one more shot, another

:57:55.:57:59.

opportunity to go at the Raonic serve and he might be thinking,

:58:00.:58:03.

well, I got to 30 in the last game. If I can get to 40 this time... And

:58:04.:58:20.

if Raonic drops his level. Then who knows? Just didn't get it in the

:58:21.:58:38.

sweet spot. A bit tentative. Nothing tentative about that. He made it

:58:39.:58:49.

look so simple, so easy, and yet the touch required the relaxation

:58:50.:58:54.

required to play that shot is difficult. As effectively as he did.

:58:55.:59:23.

Well played, Sam Querrey! It has taken an hour and 47 minutes. But he

:59:24.:59:33.

took that second serve inside the court and that was a great volley.

:59:34.:59:39.

Extreme measure required and delivered.

:59:40.:59:52.

That was a ridiculous pick-up from Raonic. That could have been the

:59:53.:00:08.

moment for some Querrey. Just about the most difficult shot a player

:00:09.:00:11.

will have to hit is a half-volley, which was just prior to that put

:00:12.:00:15.

away volley, played to perfection. Maybe that fist pump from Raonic

:00:16.:00:27.

indicative of how important he knew that point might be.

:00:28.:00:40.

More in hope than expectation, you expect, from Raonic.

:00:41.:00:49.

That is the first double fault of this match. Sorry, the second. That

:00:50.:00:58.

is his second double fault. Anyway, what a time to serve it and what a

:00:59.:01:04.

chance for Querrey, his first break point of the match.

:01:05.:01:31.

Made it! Made it! And as if from nowhere, Querrey is in this match.

:01:32.:01:48.

You asked at the start of that game or the game before, what does

:01:49.:01:59.

Querrey need to do to have a chance to break through? He showed us in

:02:00.:02:07.

that game at the 15-15 point when he took the second serve, wrapped it

:02:08.:02:14.

and came in behind it that he was willing to become more aggressive,

:02:15.:02:17.

willing to take a few more risks, and they paid off. And this match

:02:18.:02:20.

just may have swung. Well, Raonic may have been eyeing

:02:21.:02:37.

the chequered flag a couple of minutes ago. It has been withdrawn.

:02:38.:02:48.

He's had to make a detour in the pits but having said that, Querrey

:02:49.:02:55.

has still got to serve this out. This set is not done yet. But if we

:02:56.:03:00.

get to 2-1 both these players actually have very interesting

:03:01.:03:05.

records in five set matches. Of course Raonic came back from two

:03:06.:03:13.

sets down to win his last round. Could the worm turned completely

:03:14.:03:14.

here? Mr Querrey is challenging the call,

:03:15.:03:27.

the ball was called out. Fractionally wide, I think.

:03:28.:03:37.

Mr Querrey has two challenges remaining. First serve badly

:03:38.:04:25.

required. Raonic let him off, there. He put a

:04:26.:04:48.

little extra on that, worldwide. Raonic just couldn't catch up with

:04:49.:04:49.

it. -- out wide. Now it's Querrey two points from

:04:50.:05:00.

taking us into a fourth set. Welcomer Raonic berating himself for

:05:01.:05:24.

making the wrong choice, there. He's really berating himself for

:05:25.:05:31.

what happened in the game before. It was called out by the line judge

:05:32.:05:55.

and by the umpire. And that is in, somehow. It's all about fine

:05:56.:06:03.

margins. And by the finest of margins, Sam Querrey is still in

:06:04.:06:10.

this match. STUDIO: So, Sam Querrey right back in this match, he takes

:06:11.:06:14.

the third set. We will be back on this court in just the moment.

:06:15.:06:18.

Something similar happened on Centre Court. Roger Federer is right back

:06:19.:06:23.

in it as well. He was 0-40 down in his service game in the third set,

:06:24.:06:27.

held onto his serve and then broke Cilic, and went on to take it 6-3.

:06:28.:06:32.

The seven time champion fighting hard on Centre Court but still two

:06:33.:06:37.

sets to one down to Marion Cilic. That matches live over on BBC One.

:06:38.:06:46.

Out on court 18, Britain's Jamie Murray and his partner Bruno Suarez

:06:47.:06:50.

are in trouble, two sets down to the French pair. And they are number

:06:51.:06:55.

three seeds. So, that match is on the red button. So, a lot still

:06:56.:07:01.

happening here at Wimbledon. Everybody enjoying the tennis on

:07:02.:07:03.

Henman Hill, and plenty more to come. Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried

:07:04.:07:09.

Tsonga next, but let's rejoin Court One. COMMENTATOR: Well, to use a

:07:10.:07:16.

phrase that is often used, didn't see that coming. No, but when you're

:07:17.:07:26.

in the position that Raonic was in, playing the match of your life, and

:07:27.:07:31.

very close to closing it out, sometimes, it can be more difficult

:07:32.:07:36.

than you might anticipate. Querrey did well, raised his play, raised

:07:37.:07:42.

his level of play. Went to net on a few more occasions, and Raonic

:07:43.:07:50.

perhaps missed a few more returns than... Oh boy. Got lucky, there.

:07:51.:08:03.

Missed a few more returns than he had been missing. He had been

:08:04.:08:05.

returning exceptionally well. That was straight out of the meat of

:08:06.:08:22.

the racket from Querrey, there. It's interesting, we haven't really seen

:08:23.:08:30.

Raonic armload on first serves. We haven't seen that too often. No. A

:08:31.:08:40.

loss of 118, 120 mph serves. But that must have been the preordained

:08:41.:08:47.

tactic with the absent John McEnroe saying you don't need to whack them

:08:48.:08:50.

down. Your service good enough anyway.

:08:51.:09:01.

That's a great shot and up until the key moment in the first set it had

:09:02.:09:06.

been. Yes. Said Querrey's main hope, only hope,

:09:07.:09:48.

was that Raonic's level dropped, and it most definitely has done that.

:09:49.:09:53.

Just fractionally, but just enough to give him a chance, again, of

:09:54.:09:58.

looking to break what seemed an unbreakable serve.

:09:59.:10:11.

Well, we saw in the Queen 's final when Raonic finally did drop serve

:10:12.:10:17.

against Andy Murray he went on to drop it three more times in short

:10:18.:10:22.

order. Needs to guard against that, now.

:10:23.:10:42.

That roar was from Raonic. It was a great serve. Took speed off it.

:10:43.:10:48.

Second serve essentially with a high kick. Querrey just never got over

:10:49.:10:51.

it. This game has been engrossing from

:10:52.:11:40.

the word go but actually there is real tension in it, now.

:11:41.:11:54.

Well, playing on the finest margins, there. And he'll be relieved to have

:11:55.:12:01.

held serve, there. Not messing around, are they? The

:12:02.:12:12.

speed of play has been a delight. Couldn't agree more. So nice to see

:12:13.:12:18.

a couple of guys just get on with it. And it's a hot day, too. Not

:12:19.:12:25.

like it's been for the preceding nine days. Hot would be

:12:26.:12:30.

exaggerating, but it is warm. I'm sure those of you watching this on

:12:31.:12:35.

the West Coast of America and if I tell you it is 20 or 21 degrees, you

:12:36.:12:42.

will be going "That's called!" . That sweater weather. -- that's

:12:43.:12:50.

cold. Well they are both playing some great tennis at the moment.

:12:51.:14:07.

If that Paul had hit Raonic it would have been Querrey's point -- is that

:14:08.:14:13.

ball. Momentary lapse in concentration.

:14:14.:14:31.

That is Querrey's first double fault of the match.

:14:32.:14:47.

Obviously it is a huge sporting day from a British perspective today,

:14:48.:14:53.

Wales against Portugal tonight in the semifinals of the European

:14:54.:14:56.

football Championships. You can always make analogies

:14:57.:15:09.

between different sports but this game at the moment... If Querrey is

:15:10.:15:24.

Wales and Raonic is Portugal, you could be two goals down and the

:15:25.:15:30.

opposition have had 95% of possession, but you get one chance,

:15:31.:15:34.

sneak a goal, you can still win 3-2 and that's what Querrey is thinking

:15:35.:15:36.

at the moment. Ye of little faith. Your Welsh

:15:37.:16:07.

brothers! I'm saying they are going to win 3-2 from 2-0 down! But

:16:08.:16:19.

conceded 95% of possession? I don't buy that. Just look at the final

:16:20.:16:21.

score, that's all that counts. You got any Welsh blood in you? Who

:16:22.:16:40.

knows?! Straight from the clay of Roland

:16:41.:17:19.

Garros. And every set, because of the nature

:17:20.:18:07.

of how the sets have gone, follows a similar pattern to the one before

:18:08.:18:09.

with Raonic serving and Querrey chasing his tail. Which is harder on

:18:10.:18:19.

the man serving second, isn't it? It is. Undeniably. Any time you face a

:18:20.:18:26.

break point towards the latter end of the set it becomes a set point.

:18:27.:18:34.

Just that much more pressure. Also something subliminal with always

:18:35.:18:38.

being behind. Just doesn't feel as comfortable. As always being had. --

:18:39.:18:51.

being ahead. Raonic at the moment at least is not winning serves in a

:18:52.:18:56.

minute to love in the way that he was for the majority of the first

:18:57.:19:00.

three sets, so that will give some encouragement to Querrey, at least.

:19:01.:19:07.

And for both sets of coaching teams it's, well, agonising, unbearable.

:19:08.:19:12.

Never quite sure how much enjoyment there is, actually, in being up

:19:13.:19:18.

there, playing every shot. Inwardly thinking, why did you do that? We

:19:19.:19:24.

said not to do that. Of course that's the nature of this sport. In

:19:25.:19:26.

the end it is just these two guys. Yeah, enjoyment probably doesn't

:19:27.:19:50.

explain the feeling. The enjoyment is a fleeting emotion on the final

:19:51.:19:53.

point when your man has won. That was well played by Querrey,

:19:54.:20:05.

wrong footing and then the put away. That was almost the end of the

:20:06.:20:24.

centreline Court judge, there. Oh, boy. Well, query had this game

:20:25.:21:06.

in his pocket and now suddenly Raonic is back in its -- Querrey had

:21:07.:21:08.

this game in his pocket. Raonic is right back in it. That's a

:21:09.:21:32.

real dip from Querrey, a second double fault.

:21:33.:21:44.

You can see Raonic leaping up and down on the baseline, there.

:21:45.:22:07.

He was on it. Just a slight miscalculation.

:22:08.:22:31.

Raonic... Querrey's first serve percentage has dipped down to 55%,

:22:32.:22:43.

now. Which obviously means Raonic will get a look at more second

:22:44.:22:46.

thoughts, and that gave him the chance to do that.

:22:47.:23:14.

You might have questioned whether Querrey had the touch to play a lob

:23:15.:23:18.

like that, but he did in the end. And he throws his eyes to the

:23:19.:23:38.

heavens, Querrey, there. Because he's allowing Raonic to stay in this

:23:39.:23:42.

game with two double faults. And a first serve percentage that

:23:43.:23:54.

keeps tumbling. Insets one and two, all those shots

:23:55.:24:18.

went in. Not so now. -- in sets one and two.

:24:19.:24:37.

Phew, says Sam Querrey. Got that gain over with!

:24:38.:24:43.

-- that game. It feels as though this has been going on for a very

:24:44.:24:53.

long time but it is only two hours and 12 minutes. We haven't even got

:24:54.:24:58.

to half past three in the afternoon yet and we could have a lot, lot

:24:59.:25:04.

more to come. I agree with you. Flying along. For much of the first

:25:05.:25:11.

three sets. More errors being made now on the

:25:12.:25:31.

ground strokes. The quality of the match should have dipped marginally

:25:32.:25:40.

in the last 15 minutes. Yeah, with mental fatigue. You know, there was

:25:41.:25:47.

no way to expect Raonic to maintain that level of play. For, you know,

:25:48.:25:50.

more than two hours. Which isn't to say that he can't

:25:51.:26:06.

rekindle it at some point, soon. That's how he was serving an hour

:26:07.:26:07.

ago. That's how he was serving an hour

:26:08.:26:19.

ago. It's poised on a knife edge. But you

:26:20.:26:50.

would still rather be in the Raonic camp than the Querrey one. Yeah.

:26:51.:26:54.

Raonic perhaps needs to reenergise just a little bit. He came out so

:26:55.:27:03.

red-hot. And the longer you play better than you've ever played, you

:27:04.:27:09.

know, the more you start to think, well, how long can I keep this up

:27:10.:27:10.

for? These are the lucky ones on Court

:27:11.:27:47.

One seeing an enthralling contest between Milos Raonic and Sam

:27:48.:27:50.

Querrey. Been so much more to this than just big serving.

:27:51.:27:58.

Querrey needs to rediscover his first serve and his touch on shots

:27:59.:28:02.

like that, as well. If you have just joined us, Raonic

:28:03.:28:18.

was playing some extraordinary, exemplary tennis for two sets and

:28:19.:28:22.

seven eighths of a set. And Querrey, who was all but out for

:28:23.:28:39.

the count, landed one punch at the end of the third set, and that's why

:28:40.:28:40.

we are here in the fourth. That slice from Raonic served him so

:28:41.:29:05.

well earlier in the match. Yeah, again, the old school style. Pays

:29:06.:29:08.

dividends from Raonic. Querry's first serve returns with a

:29:09.:29:32.

vengeance. Oh! That was like a tracer bullet

:29:33.:30:02.

from the racket of the American. He physically could not have time to

:30:03.:30:14.

that better. -- timed. That's a pretty nice response. That

:30:15.:30:43.

service never coming back. Querrey leads the ace contest at the moment.

:30:44.:31:17.

It was called out, it might just be out. What a rally, though.

:31:18.:31:40.

A big smile on Sam Querrey's face. Not surprisingly.

:31:41.:32:13.

It wasn't an easy attempt. To be fair, it was 115 mph, second serve,

:32:14.:32:27.

out wide. But Querrey would have liked to have put that into play.

:32:28.:32:49.

We're at the umpire's chair, because we think we know the answer. Again,

:32:50.:33:00.

the tiniest of margins. A beautifully struck ball by Sam

:33:01.:33:01.

Querrey, but it went wide. With every passing game, we get ever

:33:02.:33:17.

closer to the moment of truth from Sam Querrey's point of view. Who is

:33:18.:33:25.

playing best at the moment, of these two, do you think? I would say it is

:33:26.:33:34.

neck and neck, right now. I think that Querrey has pegged Raonic back

:33:35.:33:38.

a little bit. It was always going to be difficult for Raonic to play the

:33:39.:33:46.

way he did in set one and two throughout. But he's still showing a

:33:47.:33:49.

great deal of skill at the forecourt. Look at that. When he

:33:50.:33:56.

went back to play that shot, I was thinking of being on centre with

:33:57.:34:01.

Andy Murray and George was Raonic is so much more of a complete

:34:02.:34:20.

player that he knew this was the option, even though he narrowly

:34:21.:34:28.

missed. He likes to play the percentages, Raonic, because that is

:34:29.:34:30.

the sort of player that he is. Querrey served two double faults in

:34:31.:34:49.

the last service game and somehow extricated himself from that. But

:34:50.:34:52.

that is not a good way to start this.

:34:53.:35:11.

He tried to wrong-foot him on the volley, but it's gone wrong. Well,

:35:12.:35:18.

defence has never been what Raonic has been known for. What an

:35:19.:35:21.

exceptional defensive backhand. Another lovely slice from Raonic,

:35:22.:36:40.

set up that opportunity. Querrey will be disappointed by the volley.

:36:41.:36:50.

We played virtually two and a half sets, without any game is getting to

:36:51.:36:55.

deuce, now we have a glut of them. Goodness. What a staggering clean

:36:56.:37:22.

hit from Raonic that was. That is well played by Querrey. Must

:37:23.:37:44.

be feeling the pressure now. His service games are not just going

:37:45.:38:05.

to deuce once, sometimes two, three, four deuces. One break of serve

:38:06.:38:09.

here, you can be pretty sure, would be enough for Raonic. So, Sam hangs

:38:10.:38:17.

on in there, in style, with that backhand down the line.

:38:18.:38:27.

You can just feel the heart rate going up, ever so slightly, on all

:38:28.:38:39.

fronts. Raonic, Querrey, the crowd. Us.

:38:40.:39:18.

A gallant, if abortive effort from Querrey.

:39:19.:39:42.

This is back to the kind of service game that Raonic was delivering in

:39:43.:39:46.

the early stages of this match. And so it is a straightforward hold

:39:47.:40:06.

to love. Sam Querrey will serve to stay in

:40:07.:40:22.

the match, to stay in Wimbledon, to stay in with a chance of reaching

:40:23.:40:29.

the semifinals. That last game was just what the doctor ordered. If you

:40:30.:40:36.

are looking at it from Raonic's perspective, things have slipped

:40:37.:40:41.

away from him ever so slightly over the last set and a half. So, in

:40:42.:40:50.

preparation for these more fraught games to come, more pressurised

:40:51.:41:01.

games, to get into these four and five games, having held to love,

:41:02.:41:06.

it's a great advantage. It allows Raonic to settle and say, all right,

:41:07.:41:11.

life is good still. Now let's pump it up, pump up your energy and

:41:12.:41:17.

focus, really make a push to break here.

:41:18.:41:23.

Two and a half hours of tennis we have had so far. Raonic's first

:41:24.:41:29.

service game took a minute or so. For two and a half minutes, Sam

:41:30.:41:34.

Querrey has spent the entire match serving from behind. The first set,

:41:35.:41:39.

second set, the third set and now in the fourth, serving to stay in the

:41:40.:41:41.

match. Querrey will be thinking that was a

:41:42.:42:03.

kind of nothing point, such a key moment.

:42:04.:42:08.

And that is a something point. That's a big something for Raonic.

:42:09.:42:18.

Did take him out of court, which forced Raonic to go for the winner.

:42:19.:42:49.

Still, he was on it. He was 0-30 in the previous game,

:42:50.:43:03.

but the more you keep finding yourself in that situation, the more

:43:04.:43:08.

the pressure mounts. Double fault number five from Sam Querrey means,

:43:09.:43:16.

after two hours and 31 minutes, Milos Raonic from Canada's stands on

:43:17.:43:26.

the cusp of the Wimbledon semifinals.

:43:27.:43:32.

For two sets and three quarters, he played the most blistering tennis.

:43:33.:43:55.

Querrey, back into the match with a brave finish to the third set. In

:43:56.:44:01.

the end, deservedly so, the number six seed from Canada is through to

:44:02.:44:04.

the semifinals on Friday. Nobody will fancy meeting him between now

:44:05.:44:12.

and the end of this tournament. And, of course, he awaits the winner of

:44:13.:44:20.

that Cilic and Federer match. As you say, it was for two and a half sets,

:44:21.:44:24.

without question, the best tennis I have seen Raonic play. The best

:44:25.:44:31.

attacking tennis. He was coming forward, hitting deft volley

:44:32.:44:37.

winners. But this man, Sam Querrey, pegged him back. Had it not been for

:44:38.:44:44.

just three errant games that Querrey played, one at the end of the first

:44:45.:44:48.

set, one at the end of the second, one at the end of the fourth, this

:44:49.:44:52.

match would still be going on. Querrey, in fact, might be up. So,

:44:53.:45:00.

Raonic beats the man who beat Djokovic. If you are watching the

:45:01.:45:08.

Queen's Tournament, three weeks ago, you will have got a sense that Milos

:45:09.:45:15.

Raonic was starting to become really at home on grass. He was 4-1 up

:45:16.:45:20.

against Andy Murray in the final, Worrell two points here or there,

:45:21.:45:25.

who is to say that Raonic might not have won that? The spectre of the

:45:26.:45:29.

feast is a John McEnroe, commentating on Court One at the

:45:30.:45:31.

moment on Roger Federer against Marin Cilic. I am sure he will know

:45:32.:45:39.

the result of this match. There will be a big smile on his face. Clearly,

:45:40.:45:46.

he has had a considerable, maybe subliminal effect on the Raonic

:45:47.:45:52.

mentality, the Raonic game, and has made him now a contender with a

:45:53.:45:58.

capital C Micro. Not subliminal at all. That is the most fun, the most

:45:59.:46:04.

enjoyable part of their time together, John talking to them about

:46:05.:46:14.

life, tennis, about competing. It has clearly have a positive impact

:46:15.:46:24.

on him. Those are the facts and figures. We thought we were

:46:25.:46:30.

guaranteed at least one tie-break. We didn't get one. Would we have a

:46:31.:46:34.

winner, and he is from Canada. Congratulations on your victory, you

:46:35.:46:40.

are through. An intriguing match? It was. There were some momentum

:46:41.:46:44.

shifts, break point all the way to the end of that third set and all of

:46:45.:46:48.

a sudden he gets the break, holds out for that set and has another one

:46:49.:46:51.

at the start of the fourth. I was glad I was able to get back onto my

:46:52.:46:55.

right path and get the win. That is when you had to be really mentally

:46:56.:47:00.

strong, you used a couple of keywords, momentum shift? It is

:47:01.:47:05.

something that has helped me out a lot, with my previous round, being

:47:06.:47:08.

able to change things around, this time, it getting back on my terms.

:47:09.:47:15.

Good to be here and have a shot at the semifinal. Described the

:47:16.:47:19.

excitement, being through to the semifinals and knowing you are one

:47:20.:47:23.

win away? It's exciting and also humbling at the same time. You have

:47:24.:47:27.

to get that win. I'm going to go out there and give it everything I've

:47:28.:47:30.

got, hope for a better result than last time. You are working a bit

:47:31.:47:36.

with John McEnroe, what has he added to your game? He has added a bit of

:47:37.:47:40.

a mean a change on the court, maybe a bit more positive, getting more

:47:41.:47:45.

energy out of myself so I don't disappear for too long through a

:47:46.:47:49.

match. Obviously I volleyed great today, so I think he has helped me

:47:50.:47:52.

with that as well. Very well done, thank you.

:47:53.:47:56.

So, Milos Raonic from Canada is through to the semifinals. It's

:47:57.:48:08.

nearly four o'clock, so that is 11 o'clock Eastern seaboard time, in

:48:09.:48:16.

Canada. Breakfast time on Victoria and Vancouver Island, and elsewhere.

:48:17.:48:21.

They will be delighted that the maple leaf is flying so powerfully

:48:22.:48:24.

and so strongly here at Wimbledon this year. A final thought, Peter,

:48:25.:48:34.

can he win this now? Absolutely. Absolutely. Will he? Who knows. Tune

:48:35.:48:37.

in on Friday! Raonic absolutely delighted, he is

:48:38.:48:48.

through to the semifinals at Wimbledon. That happened on Court

:48:49.:48:52.

One. Over on Centre Court, right now, he will be facing the win of

:48:53.:48:58.

the match between Federer and Cilic. This is an incredible fourth set

:48:59.:49:02.

tie-break. Federer had a set point and missed it, Cilic has had match

:49:03.:49:07.

points and let them go. This is live on BBC One. Cilic leading seven sets

:49:08.:49:18.

to one. Packed on Henman Hill, as it is on Court 18, where we are going

:49:19.:49:23.

out to see Jamie Murray of Great Britain and Bruno Suarez. They are

:49:24.:49:31.

2-0 down and they have saved some match points, taking that tie-break

:49:32.:49:34.

in the third set. Fighting hard again. They came through a long

:49:35.:49:38.

match in their last match but they are fighting hard. Let's join this

:49:39.:49:39.

one live. The third seeds could have been out

:49:40.:49:52.

by now, but they aren't. They have fended off a couple of match points

:49:53.:49:57.

as they joined forces together at Wimbledon for the first time. They

:49:58.:50:04.

arrived as Australian champions. They beat Radek Stepanek and Daniel

:50:05.:50:11.

Nestor. They have been almost unbreakable

:50:12.:50:24.

after the tie-break, and finally they did crack in the tie-break. It

:50:25.:50:34.

was quite a turnaround, momentum yo-yoing everywhere. They are still

:50:35.:50:38.

very much afloat. These two in your picture are playing terrific serve

:50:39.:50:44.

and volley tennis. They are just like a wall, unblemished, the French

:50:45.:50:53.

team. Neither of them conceding any break points against themselves.

:50:54.:51:23.

You do wonder, with how well these two have played throughout, after

:51:24.:51:30.

two and a half hours, if there might be a little let down after the loss

:51:31.:51:31.

of that very tight third set. Worrell two viewers as old as me and

:51:32.:52:01.

Paul will recognise Edouard Roger-Vasselin's dad, Christophe. He

:52:02.:52:07.

lost in the semifinals, to the eventual winner.

:52:08.:52:18.

So, a guard is here watching his son. And a mum -- a dad is watching

:52:19.:52:28.

his son, a man was watching her son, but Judy Murray might have other

:52:29.:52:31.

things on her mind. She is back. I wondered if she had gone to Centre

:52:32.:52:33.

Court, but she is back in his seat. One of those difficult parental

:52:34.:52:53.

questions. If the youngest son wanders onto Centre Court, she can't

:52:54.:52:54.

be in two places at once. They have settled themselves well

:52:55.:53:20.

enough after the concession of that third set.

:53:21.:53:31.

Very calm, the Frenchman winning at 6-4, 6-4. They have their

:53:32.:53:38.

opportunities to do this in straight sets. The luxury they now have is

:53:39.:53:43.

that they started serving in this fourth set. That almost compounds

:53:44.:53:48.

the pressure onto the third seeds of Murray and Soares, who are

:53:49.:53:50.

constantly playing catch-up, you will. They have been so solid, these

:53:51.:53:58.

two. Edouard Roger-Vasselin just opting to take off his cap.

:53:59.:54:07.

The man keeping it on is Jamie Murray, with new balls.

:54:08.:54:30.

Jamie Murray, right now, the best doubles player in the world. Ranked

:54:31.:54:38.

at number one. A fantastic scrap going on between him and Nicolas

:54:39.:54:44.

Mahut. A handful of points separating them. A decent finalist

:54:45.:54:47.

here last year. Looking to get the semifinals once again.

:54:48.:54:58.

He is opting to dispatch the shades, temporarily. The sun has gone behind

:54:59.:55:06.

a bit of a fluffy cloud, above. We have had gorgeous weather today.

:55:07.:55:07.

Long may it continue. Bruno Soares has been under pressure

:55:08.:55:34.

on his own serve. He has yielded once in each of the opening two sets

:55:35.:55:39.

in his service games. Jamie has remained intact.

:55:40.:56:06.

Roger-Vasselin and three Mac are the first winners here since the 80s.

:56:07.:56:31.

One of the features of this match has been how effective Jamie has

:56:32.:56:37.

been when he has got tied to the net. A wonderful way to neutralise

:56:38.:56:42.

the point. But how fast he is, in response, to close the net down and

:56:43.:56:47.

create the angle. Benneteau buckling under that one.

:56:48.:56:55.

This is what they have been doing so well, they have been serving

:56:56.:57:02.

fantastically when they need to. So good under pressure, the French team

:57:03.:57:05.

today, in both serve and return. Julien Benneteau, the 24-year-old

:57:06.:57:17.

Parisian. Jamie Murray, who turned 30 in

:57:18.:57:42.

February. Jamie Murray OBE now, rewarded in the Queen's birthday

:57:43.:57:46.

honours. He said that as soon as he opened the envelope, the race was on

:57:47.:57:53.

for the knighthood! Oh, confusion. They have only played five

:57:54.:57:56.

tournaments together. They have had great effect and won multiple

:57:57.:58:02.

titles, but this rare occasion, yours!

:58:03.:58:16.

That lady was on the gangway, the ball bounced up a lady's skirt,

:58:17.:58:29.

there, to her shock. This is the quarterfinals of the Men's Doubles.

:58:30.:58:32.

We are going to have a new winners this year, because last year's

:58:33.:58:43.

champions were upset in the first round.

:58:44.:58:52.

Nicolas Mahut, we are talking about the battle he is having with Jamie

:58:53.:59:10.

Murray for the number one spot, Max Mirnyi as well, it is a very

:59:11.:59:14.

wide-open contest this year. Murray and Soares have kept themselves

:59:15.:59:22.

right in it, with the winning of that third set. Here we are, the

:59:23.:59:29.

beautifully appointed court 18, right on the Hill, next to Henman

:59:30.:59:35.

Hill, Murray Mount between Centre Court and caught one. It has been

:59:36.:59:36.

packed from the start. Bait ousted the ninth seeds and also

:59:37.:59:52.

the eighth seeds, so they are on form, the French.

:59:53.:00:31.

Bruno Soares, proud owner of 22 doubles titles down the years. The

:00:32.:00:35.

latest the Australian Open with Murray. Well, it was a very short

:00:36.:00:45.

serve from Bruno Soares, who, at five feet and 11 inches, is the

:00:46.:00:50.

shortest man on court. On occasion he can drop a little low in power

:00:51.:00:54.

and be a taxable as a consequence but not so at the moment. He's

:00:55.:01:02.

really sprung to life. Of course these two serving and a good result

:01:03.:01:09.

in Rio earlier this year, semifinal. This time when they go to Rio, soon,

:01:10.:01:11.

they won't be playing together. You were talking about how,

:01:12.:01:50.

tactically, doubles has moved on in recent times, and the return of

:01:51.:01:54.

serve is something that some of the coaches might talk about. In this

:01:55.:01:58.

power obsessed world there are more subtleties coming into doubles. The

:01:59.:02:02.

Bryan brothers were discussing the fact the lob return is much more

:02:03.:02:06.

prevalent. Jamie has been using a few of them. And on tap, on cue,

:02:07.:02:14.

rather. Couldn't follow up, though. That's a shame because it's a great

:02:15.:02:20.

tactical ploy. But the French have been really countering it very well,

:02:21.:02:25.

it has to be said. Ms drive volleys and good communication, good

:02:26.:02:29.

smashing from them. It certainly changes the look. And that's what

:02:30.:02:33.

good doubles is all about, changing the scenery. And I really have been

:02:34.:02:49.

impressed with his team in this quarterfinal clash of grand slam

:02:50.:02:52.

champion is because they've been so versatile. Soares and have done so

:02:53.:03:00.

much in terms of changing up and changing the picture. Soares has

:03:01.:03:07.

even stood back on first serves. They have just been superbly

:03:08.:03:08.

resilient. Nothing has phased them. I think that in the pre-serve

:03:09.:03:27.

discussion when Benneteau decided he was going to close he didn't realise

:03:28.:03:31.

that Jamie Murray was going to strike a forehand return of that

:03:32.:03:35.

quality. Slow off the mark, the Frenchman, there.

:03:36.:03:50.

Good idea, poor execution from Bruno. But it keeps the net players

:03:51.:03:58.

guessing. It means that Benneteau at the net will not pounce so quickly

:03:59.:04:03.

forward. He will wait back and as a consequence he cannot create so much

:04:04.:04:14.

angle. Jamie had the best lurk at this one and he thought it was wide,

:04:15.:04:22.

hence the challenge -- best look. Hawk-Eye agrees with the Scot.

:04:23.:04:42.

STUDIO: We are leaving this match on Court 18 because we have another of

:04:43.:04:48.

the men's quarterfinals starting on Court Number One. But if you want to

:04:49.:04:52.

continue watching you can, it's on the red button. You can follow

:04:53.:04:58.

Murray and Soares on the red button. We'll keep you up-to-date with it

:04:59.:05:02.

here as well. Before we go to Court One, let's take you to Centre Court

:05:03.:05:06.

and all the drama of the fourth set tie-break which Federer won 11-9

:05:07.:05:11.

with set points and match points all over the place. Such drama. It has

:05:12.:05:15.

all come down and it is back on serve in the fifth and final set.

:05:16.:05:21.

But who will come out on top? Cilic in your picture, or Federer? But we

:05:22.:05:26.

are heading back to Court Number One has Tomas Berdych, in your picture,

:05:27.:05:30.

is taking on Lucas Pouille, playing in his first Grand Slam

:05:31.:05:35.

quarterfinal. Let's join the commentators.

:05:36.:05:43.

COMMENTATOR: Fairly sparsely populated Court One at the moment.

:05:44.:05:50.

Get the feeling things are happening elsewhere. But a fascinating

:05:51.:05:55.

quarterfinal in prospect between this rising talent, the 22-year-old

:05:56.:06:01.

Frenchman, youngest man left in the Men's Singles.

:06:02.:06:21.

Not exactly a buzz yet on Court One. You can see people a bit of a break

:06:22.:06:29.

after the previous quarterfinal. Started confidently enough in this

:06:30.:06:55.

game but Pouille giving Berdych a bit of a look, here.

:06:56.:07:34.

Goodspeed from Berdych once he gets going up to full running speed, he

:07:35.:07:40.

can shift. Didn't think he was going to make this, and he got to it quite

:07:41.:07:50.

comfortably. There that whip. Got that ball down nice and quickly.

:07:51.:08:21.

So there it is, eventually. Bit of a struggle at times but eventually an

:08:22.:08:28.

opening hold of serve for Lucas Pouille the. Mentioned he will be an

:08:29.:08:33.

unfamiliar name to lots of you watching, still just 22 and he has

:08:34.:08:37.

crept up there, there has not been anything explosive leaping onto the

:08:38.:08:40.

scene, he has just made gradual progress. This is his breakthrough

:08:41.:08:44.

in a major, getting to a court of final. In a rich crop of French

:08:45.:08:49.

talent. From the outskirts of Dunkirk, right in the north of

:08:50.:08:53.

France, about as far north as you can get in France, Belgian border.

:08:54.:08:59.

There is his guiding coach, who used to work with Toro among others.

:09:00.:09:29.

Reid Mr Pouille challenging the call, the ball was called in.

:09:30.:09:39.

Not a bad start. Obviously very nervous. Seen it all before. Killing

:09:40.:10:06.

as he has. Seen it all before. Yes, he has.

:10:07.:10:22.

Near enough a perfect service game. Four points, three aces. Tomas

:10:23.:10:31.

Berdych, he really has come into these quarterfinals under the radar.

:10:32.:10:35.

No one has talked about him and he's got great grass court pedigree. But

:10:36.:10:40.

no one expects him to sort of be a threat and here he is in the

:10:41.:10:42.

quarterfinals. Ooh, wonderful work by Berdych.

:10:43.:11:10.

Nearly some great wrong footing by Pouille. Class point from both

:11:11.:11:18.

players. Excellent drop volley, and Pouille, didn't think he was going

:11:19.:11:21.

to get that, just about wrong-footed. Berdych can pick those

:11:22.:11:24.

shots up. Quite often he was pressurised on

:11:25.:11:52.

his own serve by Tomic in the last round, but always responded well.

:11:53.:13:29.

That's a bit better. Just having to graft a bit on his own serve at the

:13:30.:13:40.

moment. Started slowly against Tomic and got better and better as the

:13:41.:13:41.

match went on. Nerves for Pouille in this situation

:13:42.:14:19.

would be perfectly understandable. Just too easy for Berdych. Second

:14:20.:14:43.

serve from Pouille is just sitting a little bit and the moment. Not much

:14:44.:14:48.

really on that. Plenty of time for Berdych.

:14:49.:15:12.

Nicely finished off by Berdych, who is controlling things a bit better

:15:13.:15:47.

at the moment than Pouille. These ground strokes have been very solid

:15:48.:15:52.

so far. I know the match only just started, but looks very comfortable

:15:53.:15:58.

on both wings. Excellent point, set it up dutifully for that volley to

:15:59.:16:00.

finish the point. Break point. Frustration for Berdych, got himself

:16:01.:16:22.

slightly out of position. Clements, partner of Pouille, everywhere he

:16:23.:16:25.

plays. Ooh, what a shot. That was 50-50

:16:26.:16:43.

which way he was going to move, bed, and he gambled. He picked the right

:16:44.:16:48.

spot, gambled, and that is a magnificent passing shot.

:16:49.:16:59.

Break point seen off in emphatic fashion.

:17:00.:17:13.

Attritional stuff early in this match. Berdych having sailed through

:17:14.:18:05.

his service game. Pouille with the struggles.

:18:06.:18:35.

Just not enough punch. The speed was good on the second serve. But he's

:18:36.:18:41.

just not really getting it in the right place. Enough time for Berdych

:18:42.:18:47.

just to get round, hit a forehand away.

:18:48.:18:56.

Early breakthrough for Tomas Berdych. Took some time but he has

:18:57.:19:31.

it. Talked about how unfamiliar some of you might be with Lucas Pouille,

:19:32.:19:35.

but Tomas Berdych is a very, very familiar figure, of course. Been a

:19:36.:19:40.

fixture in the top ten in the world since 2010. And that was a great

:19:41.:19:44.

season for him. He reached the final, here. Lost that one sided

:19:45.:19:53.

affair to Nadal, but had beaten Federer en route. Also a

:19:54.:19:57.

semifinalist in the French Open that year. You mentioned him coming under

:19:58.:20:01.

the radar, he's just not had a good season. He sacked his coach, who had

:20:02.:20:07.

been with Andy Murray. He got thumped by David Coffin, it was 6-0,

:20:08.:20:13.

6-0. So sort of doing things more on his own now. It just wasn't good

:20:14.:20:18.

enough. And he is a player who should be performing better than

:20:19.:20:21.

that. Hasn't reached a final this year. Know, and you look at in just

:20:22.:20:25.

over the years and think, what he does, he does well. But you never

:20:26.:20:31.

think of him as having different game plans. If something goes wrong

:20:32.:20:34.

he's very sort of straight, he hits it very well. His wife watching on

:20:35.:20:46.

as Berdych has the breakthrough. And more and more people joining us here

:20:47.:20:50.

on Court One. We welcome the company. Players waiting for them to

:20:51.:20:54.

settle down. Both players reading it well.

:20:55.:21:20.

Berdych read that one well, but Pouille read that one.

:21:21.:22:16.

Certain amount of noise drifting over from Centre Court.

:22:17.:22:58.

Well, bring on the front foot now. Great chance to hit back. I liked

:22:59.:23:08.

the way in rally there were some nice change apps from Pouille. It

:23:09.:23:12.

wasn't all about power, he varied the pace -- change-ups. Three break

:23:13.:23:18.

points for Pouille to draw level. Well, what a contrast to the opening

:23:19.:24:44.

service game from Berdych when he fired down three aces, helped to

:24:45.:24:53.

love. -- held. And that was a pretty wretched service game. It was awful.

:24:54.:24:59.

Almost like he was a bit flat the way he was gesturing to them, there.

:25:00.:25:01.

Not much energy. Could be a reaction to that sort of

:25:02.:25:06.

interrupted match in the last round. And all this will just fill Pouille

:25:07.:25:34.

with a bit more confidence. Just looks a bit bewildered at the

:25:35.:26:15.

moment. Don't know what it is, but he does look a bit flat. Needs 2G

:26:16.:26:21.

himself up a bit, here. -- he needs to gee himself up.

:26:22.:26:31.

I think something is happening elsewhere. Stay with us.

:26:32.:27:11.

So, Pouille holds and noses himself in front in this set. Fired down a

:27:12.:27:24.

good few double faults already. But we are on serve and Pouille

:27:25.:27:31.

certainly looks a lot stronger now. A few more spectators coming in. Up

:27:32.:27:37.

at the top of the picture there on Court Number One. All sorts of fun

:27:38.:27:40.

and games happening on Centre Court and out on the Hill, of course.

:27:41.:27:51.

Don't want to give any spoilers, give anything away. Guest. If you

:27:52.:27:56.

are a Federer fan you are going to be quite happy. Around the estate.

:27:57.:28:01.

Court number 18, the broadcast centre. What a difference it makes

:28:02.:28:10.

as well to have some good weather. Last week was rather miserable. All

:28:11.:28:16.

caught up now to men's quarterfinal day and the hill is full.

:28:17.:28:30.

Not sure if Pouille just called for the trainer, he had a little chat

:28:31.:28:34.

with the umpire. Just one if it's something to do

:28:35.:29:03.

with the fact he had his right foot heavily strapped in his last match.

:29:04.:29:08.

With Tomic. Might be something to do with that.

:29:09.:29:54.

It was either a very good second serve or a double. Double fault.

:29:55.:31:16.

Again, on that line. A very different Tomas Berdych now.

:31:17.:31:23.

Another chance to break for Lucas Pouille.

:31:24.:31:55.

It's not a massive serve, Berdych's, for a huge man. He is six foot five

:31:56.:32:02.

to start off with, it's coming down from quite a height.

:32:03.:32:28.

Eventually closes it out well, Berdych. But little things to

:32:29.:32:40.

encourage Pouille. Berdych was a bit erratic, wasn't he? Searching, the

:32:41.:32:43.

moment. The bottom line is he even. Obvious pressure for Pouille, he's

:32:44.:33:00.

not used to a situation like a Grand Slam quarterfinal. But there also is

:33:01.:33:05.

for Berdych, he is expected to win here and he knows he should if he

:33:06.:33:12.

hits his best. A great opportunity for him to start his season.

:33:13.:33:17.

Semifinals at Wimbledon, who knows, beyond that.

:33:18.:33:38.

Neither player looking to solid at the moment.

:33:39.:33:58.

So, Lucas Pouille has the hold. I think a trainer is about to appear.

:33:59.:35:37.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is that right foot. It's moving

:35:38.:35:47.

well, I haven't seen anything where he has polled perhaps not. -- where

:35:48.:35:55.

he has pulled up. Perhaps not. It is a hand issue. We would not have

:35:56.:36:02.

noticed it. How would you? Blisters? Manicure or something? You

:36:03.:36:16.

have to look your best for the first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Just a

:36:17.:36:25.

blister on that finger. It is not exactly traumatic, is it?

:36:26.:36:32.

He will be fine. He'll live to fight another day. A quick bit of tape

:36:33.:36:40.

applied and off we go again. A lot more spectators coming in, again.

:36:41.:36:44.

The Court One crowd is filling up. A very good approach shot from

:36:45.:36:57.

Berdych. Deserved what he got. Well, a few too many unforced errors

:36:58.:39:30.

from Berdych in this first set. Hot work out there.

:39:31.:40:10.

I said it hadn't been a great season for Berdych, and it hasn't. At least

:40:11.:40:26.

in the majors, in the slams, he's popped up and something. In the

:40:27.:40:29.

majors for a third successive slams this year.

:40:30.:40:44.

Pretty comfortable at the net. This is a drive volley.

:40:45.:42:19.

Big serve when he wants to, Pouille. 131.

:42:20.:42:30.

A cagey start to the match. There has been some good, a few mistakes

:42:31.:42:47.

from both players. Pouille has every chance today against Berdych.

:42:48.:42:54.

Berdych is the higher ranked player, but doesn't look too convincing so

:42:55.:42:58.

far. He doesn't, we've got to give a lot of credit Pouille. This is

:42:59.:43:03.

uncharted territory for him. Quarterfinals, OK, it is not Centre

:43:04.:43:09.

Court, still Court Number One, the biggest occasion of his career by

:43:10.:43:12.

miles, and he has come out and settled well. Berdych had a couple

:43:13.:43:15.

of chances to get ahead and he didn't take it. Now he has allowed

:43:16.:43:19.

the Frenchman too subtle. Now he's starting to enjoy himself out here.

:43:20.:43:23.

It's tough to predict which way the match is going to go. There's not

:43:24.:43:27.

much rhythm to it yet. You would think Berdych's experience would

:43:28.:43:33.

start to come through. He looks flat today. A big afternoon for the

:43:34.:43:39.

French in the quarterfinals. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is about to get

:43:40.:43:46.

underway against Andy Murray. Lucas Pouille here. Four French men in the

:43:47.:43:50.

last 16, two of them in the quarterfinals. Gasquet is through as

:43:51.:43:57.

well. A fairly strong service game from

:43:58.:45:26.

the Number 10 seed. Beautifully done. On the back foot,

:45:27.:47:11.

saw the gap. This is the second passing shot he hit. That sort of

:47:12.:47:18.

position on the backhand side. Shoulder, just directed down the

:47:19.:47:19.

line. If he wins today, he will become the

:47:20.:47:57.

11th man to reach the semifinals on his second appearance. The most

:47:58.:48:06.

recent man to do that was Jankovic. He has had all sorts of injury

:48:07.:48:15.

problems since 2013. A great entertainer on court is here.

:48:16.:48:35.

Motherwell Football Club first did that apparently, not the Icelandic

:48:36.:48:44.

bands. Court One is getting a bit fuller with every change of ends. I

:48:45.:48:47.

know there are something else going on and you have a chance in your

:48:48.:48:51.

viewing habits. We thank you for flying with us today. Berdych

:48:52.:48:56.

serving to stay in set. It's not a match that has really

:48:57.:49:26.

caught fire yet. But we are getting to the nervous stages.

:49:27.:49:52.

Certainly of the more deliberate School of players, Berdych.

:49:53.:51:01.

So it is tie-break time in this first set.

:51:02.:51:13.

As you said, it hasn't really caught fire. But the tie-break, there is

:51:14.:51:24.

always a buzz in the crowd when that happens. We need to get a bit of

:51:25.:51:26.

atmosphere here. Berdych challenges the umpire's

:51:27.:51:38.

authority. First advantage to Berdych. He tried

:51:39.:52:05.

to be too careful on that one. He had an open court. Bad miss.

:52:06.:53:06.

A bad mistake. That was just past half court on the backside. He had

:53:07.:53:12.

enough time to get around and hit a forehand on that one. The confidence

:53:13.:53:16.

wasn't there. Didn't snap into the backhand. Is very clean and tidy

:53:17.:53:23.

start of the tie-break. They are both nervous in this

:53:24.:53:45.

tie-break. That is six double faults for Pouille in this set.

:53:46.:54:09.

Didn't move his feet. Good return, but... You always get a feeling when

:54:10.:54:17.

there is an underdog, Pouille is the underdog, that they need to win that

:54:18.:54:21.

first set. You know, to really have a good chance. You feel it is more

:54:22.:54:27.

important he wins this set than Berdych.

:54:28.:55:02.

Stumbles, but it is long. Berdych in a really commanding position now.

:55:03.:55:13.

Fortunate it was going wrong. -- long. I thought there might be a bit

:55:14.:55:25.

more of a buzz in the tie-break, but not so. It has been a cagey, untidy

:55:26.:55:28.

affair. Wonderful shot, better from both

:55:29.:56:19.

men. The final touch, a gentle caress from Lucas Pouille. There

:56:20.:56:26.

were glimpses in that point of why Pouille is in the quarterfinals.

:56:27.:56:31.

There was the variation, the big pace on the forehand, the touch at

:56:32.:56:32.

the end. That is a gorgeous shot. Well, still in there fighting, in

:56:33.:56:42.

this tie-break. Well, he has certainly come alive

:56:43.:57:22.

now. It is it too late? Maybe not. Still one break point down. But he

:57:23.:57:27.

has played three superb points. This is a good return of serve. As if he

:57:28.:57:33.

was just released from detention and hitting freely. -- released from the

:57:34.:57:38.

tension. A couple of set points for Tomas

:57:39.:57:58.

Berdych. Take set! Emphatically, Berdych

:57:59.:58:21.

claims the first set. It wasn't pretty. But it doesn't

:58:22.:58:35.

matter at all to Tomas Berdych. He takes the first step on the road to

:58:36.:58:40.

the semifinals. I wonder if he will settle down a bit and play like we

:58:41.:58:45.

know he can? As you said, Lucas Pouille, I think the best thing for

:58:46.:58:48.

him would be to win the first set, otherwise it could get away from him

:58:49.:58:53.

a little bit. Was a strange tie-break. It started so badly for

:58:54.:58:58.

Pouille, and in the middle of it he played three amazing points.

:58:59.:59:03.

Berdych, to settle himself, two good serves to set points at 5-4. Took

:59:04.:59:07.

the tie-break and maybe he will start to be a bit freer as well. It

:59:08.:59:12.

was a Conservative sort of set. But a lot of times you don't always play

:59:13.:59:17.

great, sometimes if you can just sit through, he got the job done, wasn't

:59:18.:59:19.

his best. I didn't think people wore them any

:59:20.:59:38.

more. You still got some? Unfortunately they don't fit any

:59:39.:59:43.

more. This is his 52nd straight Grand Slam appearance, testament to

:59:44.:59:50.

his fitness and avoiding injury. The second serve points, they were both

:59:51.:59:57.

in trouble when they were serving. Unforced errors, a fair amount, not

:59:58.:00:01.

too bad. The winners, just shading it for Berdych. Truth to be told, it

:00:02.:00:07.

wasn't a particularly good set. But job was done from Tomas Berdych and

:00:08.:00:12.

we think he will now start to relax a little bit, just play some of his

:00:13.:00:15.

best tennis. We didn't see it in that set.

:00:16.:00:31.

He has the benefit of serving first in this set, Berdych, but a nice

:00:32.:00:38.

start by Pouille. Oh! That will do nicely. There are

:00:39.:02:09.

two ways you can handle this serve. You can wait further back or you can

:02:10.:02:15.

take it on the rise and cut it off, and that is what Pouille did there.

:02:16.:02:16.

Very confident. So, Berdych begins this second set

:02:17.:02:40.

with a hold. Just been struggling to find his way

:02:41.:02:56.

this season, except for those two quarterfinal performances in the

:02:57.:03:01.

majors. This would be such a boost for Berdych if he could make it

:03:02.:03:06.

through to the semifinals and possibly repeat the run of 2010.

:03:07.:03:15.

Things have been blown open in the Men's Singles. Wawrinka losing to

:03:16.:03:23.

Del Potro, Djokovic Alps. The winner of this will play the winner of Andy

:03:24.:03:30.

Murray against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. I think you're right. I think in the

:03:31.:03:36.

last couple of years, any time Djokovic is out of a Grand Slam,

:03:37.:03:38.

everybody fancies their chance. You think a couple of years ago at

:03:39.:03:52.

the US Open, Kei Nishikori Cilic final.

:03:53.:03:58.

Far too many of those. Seven double faults so far in the match.

:03:59.:04:33.

He is also giving Berdych a huge number of second serves to have a

:04:34.:04:37.

look at. We talked about Berdych having a bit

:04:38.:05:09.

of fatigue because of the mental side of that match held over two

:05:10.:05:14.

days, but with Pouille, he hasn't been in this position. Grand slam

:05:15.:05:20.

quarterfinals. His serve is already over the place and fatigue could be

:05:21.:05:22.

setting here too. Rather ragged in that service game

:05:23.:05:52.

and Berdych has the break. He did so well to beat tonic from two sets to

:05:53.:06:01.

one. -- to beat Bernard Tomic. Ran slam tennis is totally different to

:06:02.:06:05.

the rest of the year when you play best-of-3 sets and you don't always

:06:06.:06:11.

get a full day off. Physically and mentally it is a different

:06:12.:06:20.

challenge. He has a lot of training in Dubai in the off-season. That is

:06:21.:06:23.

where he lives now, Lucas Pouille. He says he is getting stronger all

:06:24.:06:26.

the time. APPLAUSE

:06:27.:06:58.

What a point that was. He was the Road Runner in that rally. Just got

:06:59.:07:06.

added to the French Davis Cup team, Pouille, as well. That is a huge

:07:07.:07:12.

honour for him. Yes, qualifying for the French Davis

:07:13.:07:30.

Cup team is tricky! You have to be quite useful! He will move up to

:07:31.:07:35.

21st in the world if he loses here, from his current position of 30.

:07:36.:07:45.

And 21st in the world, in French terms is still number four, behind

:07:46.:08:04.

macro-song two, Gasquet and Monfils. -- behind Tsonga, Gasquet and

:08:05.:08:19.

Monfils. He does look a bit weary, and Berdych is one of the fittest

:08:20.:08:23.

and strongest out there. Although he has had his tussles as well. He had

:08:24.:08:28.

to complete his last match yesterday, Berdych, against Jiri

:08:29.:08:33.

Vesely commit his fellow countrymen. Another of the rising young talents

:08:34.:08:37.

in the game. He was a bit annoyed about it because the previous night

:08:38.:08:40.

he didn't want to play the fifth set, he thought the light was fading

:08:41.:08:47.

and they eventually had to go into a fifth. He has been tested as well,

:08:48.:08:53.

on the stamina front. Lucas Pouille does some damage to the courts on

:08:54.:08:57.

the service line, he drags that rear foot forward when serving.

:08:58.:09:04.

Groundsmen wince! They do, they don't like it when the players do

:09:05.:09:12.

that. He's looking very strong at the moment, Berdych. But without

:09:13.:09:15.

actually setting the heather on fire. He hasn't really had to do

:09:16.:09:18.

anything too outstanding. Let's see if Pouille can find his

:09:19.:09:26.

way back into the set. 0- three. Oh! Beautifully put away. Hi,

:09:27.:11:15.

overhead backhand and a flick of the wrist. That is certainly where his

:11:16.:11:24.

height comes in useful. Good stretch.

:11:25.:11:28.

Well done. A good serve to close it out and get a game in this second

:11:29.:11:42.

set. Interesting to watch his stamina, his fitness, Pouille. Still

:11:43.:11:51.

a reasonably young man, eating stronger with the off-season

:11:52.:11:52.

training. It's not a huge serve, Thomas

:11:53.:12:37.

Berdych come in terms of the actual power, but he picks his spots so

:12:38.:12:41.

well and in terms of the height he gets when it bounces off the court.

:12:42.:13:22.

UMPIRE: Mr Berdych is challenging the call. Right service line, the

:13:23.:13:34.

ball was called out. Very hopeful challenge from Berdych.

:13:35.:13:38.

Sometimes challenging can disrupt your rhythm between first and second

:13:39.:13:57.

serve. He doesn't want to let the Frenchman back in, here. A bit of a

:13:58.:14:02.

sloppy game he's played at the moment.

:14:03.:14:10.

Again, from a commanding position in this game he lets Pouille back,

:14:11.:14:23.

break point. Oh! Well, not far away. He read that

:14:24.:14:40.

so well. He has found a couple of good serves

:14:41.:15:22.

under pressure. Just lining up a view more of his first serves than

:15:23.:15:23.

Pouille. -- a few more. So, Berdych sees off the danger in

:15:24.:15:54.

that game and remains with the advantage in this second set.

:15:55.:16:00.

STUDIO Very much in control, Tomas Berdych,

:16:01.:16:09.

on Court Number One. After all the excitement of Federer are going

:16:10.:16:14.

through in his opening match against Cilic, Andy Murray has started very

:16:15.:16:19.

well. He has a break of serve and has just saved a break point. He is

:16:20.:16:25.

serving, you can see that match on BBC One. Andy's brother Jamie is out

:16:26.:16:34.

on Court Eighteen, battling hard in this doubles match. 4-4, 30-30.

:16:35.:16:41.

Nothing between those teams. A lot happening today. We will keep you up

:16:42.:16:46.

to date with those matches, but back we go to Court Number One.

:16:47.:16:50.

COMMENTATOR: He just gave Lucas Pouille a look, a chance to get back

:16:51.:16:59.

on level terms. But he's doing enough at the moment, Tomas Berdych.

:17:00.:17:05.

He is doing just enough. He's not playing great, by any means. Lost

:17:06.:17:10.

his concentration and became a bit sloppy, but his first serve rescued

:17:11.:17:15.

him. He may be mentally just a little bit tired after all the

:17:16.:17:19.

trouble is that he's had in the last round and the two days and trying to

:17:20.:17:26.

get the match over with. He knows if he can win this second set, he will

:17:27.:17:29.

be in great shape. APPLAUSE

:17:30.:17:50.

Nicely done, there. Got the volley off beautifully. The problems stem

:17:51.:17:57.

from that second serve from Pouille just sitting up and allowing Berdych

:17:58.:18:05.

to take the aggressive tone. He needs to keep the first serve

:18:06.:18:07.

percentage up. We have to remind ourselves that

:18:08.:18:22.

this is a big stage for Lucas Pouille, not just that it is a

:18:23.:18:25.

quarterfinal but it is on Court Number One at Wimbledon. He has had

:18:26.:18:29.

success on the outside courts so far.

:18:30.:18:34.

You can see the pace that he does possess when he accelerates on that

:18:35.:18:45.

forehand. It really is a rocket. I mention his Davis Cup debut coming

:18:46.:19:08.

up for France and that is against the Czech Republic, where he may

:19:09.:19:10.

well face Berdych again. Much better from Pouille. Still just

:19:11.:19:22.

one break adrift. The other members of the French

:19:23.:19:42.

Davis Cup team are Tsonga, who is in action at the moment, Nicolas Mahut

:19:43.:19:46.

and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. APPLAUSE

:19:47.:21:39.

Excellent footwork there from Berdych. He is a tall man, but he

:21:40.:21:46.

moves well on his feet there to get around that forehand. He adjusts and

:21:47.:21:52.

gets the racket back early as he's moving.

:21:53.:22:38.

Well spotted, and tucked it in behind Lucas Pouille and Berdych

:22:39.:22:48.

holds. Again, not a huge amount for the

:22:49.:22:58.

crowd to get its teeth into yet, as Berdych is now moving along very

:22:59.:23:03.

well in the second set, heading towards a two sets to love lead.

:23:04.:23:09.

There will be a roof on Court Number One ready for play in 2019, likely

:23:10.:23:16.

in place before 2018 -- before that, towards the end of 2018, but the

:23:17.:23:21.

first time it will be in play is 2019. This is where all the drama is

:23:22.:23:28.

happening today, Court Number One. That is how you're getting the

:23:29.:23:32.

pictures. Very small camera man up there. It's a cameraman free zone.

:23:33.:23:46.

You used to send brave cameramen up but they are all rather timid now!

:23:47.:23:53.

No, it's able mode operated camera. Gives us the glorious shots across

:23:54.:23:58.

the All-England Club. All England Lawn Tennis Ground croquet club.

:23:59.:24:02.

Pouille, to stay in the second set. He got away with that, but again,

:24:03.:24:50.

it's that second serve. Not picking the spots in the middle of the

:24:51.:24:54.

service box. Berdych should have done better with that.

:24:55.:25:13.

Nicely done by Pouille, a good service game. Making sure that

:25:14.:25:51.

Berdych has to serve for it. Trying to get himself going, Lucas Pouille.

:25:52.:25:58.

So that he can assault the Berdych serve now. It is the Czech player

:25:59.:26:08.

Irving for the set now. -- serving for the set.

:26:09.:26:16.

That was a little bit ambitious. Trying to go down the line after

:26:17.:27:07.

that pace coming at him, going over the fastest part of the net.

:27:08.:27:19.

UMPIRE: Mr Pouille is challenging the call. Well, a challenge coming

:27:20.:27:29.

in from Pouille but it looked clean. Some chalk flew up. Or whatever it's

:27:30.:27:34.

called these days. Titanium pigments. There you go.

:27:35.:27:42.

Mr Pouille has two challenges remaining.

:27:43.:28:08.

Well, nothing going right for Pouille now, off a gentle second

:28:09.:28:17.

serve. It brings Thomas Berdych to two set points.

:28:18.:28:41.

Out! UMPIRE: Game and second set,

:28:42.:28:47.

Berdych. Berdych sales on, to set good.

:28:48.:28:50.

-- he sails on, two sets to the good. Is there any way back in for

:28:51.:29:00.

Lucas Pouille here, John? What is he going to do? What is going to have

:29:01.:29:05.

to happen? At the moment it's comfortable for this man. He's just

:29:06.:29:08.

taking control. He got the early break in the second, when Pouille

:29:09.:29:14.

went off the boil and it looked like he reacted to losing the first set.

:29:15.:29:19.

He has looked a bit tired. He's got to be more consistent, his first

:29:20.:29:22.

serve percentage has got to get bumped up a bit and he's got to try

:29:23.:29:27.

and pick a few more spots on his second serve, go for it a bit more,

:29:28.:29:31.

because he's getting hurt in that position. He is all only holding 33%

:29:32.:29:38.

when he misses his first serve and Berdych is very comfortable on those

:29:39.:29:43.

stats. Pouille remains pretty much as he was in the first set when it

:29:44.:29:48.

went to a tie-break. They were both low down in the 50s. He has doubled

:29:49.:29:55.

the winners now, Berdych, and cut down the unforced errors. There is

:29:56.:30:00.

still not really much in it but it looks to me like Pouille has to do a

:30:01.:30:04.

bit more on his serve and just cut down... It's a bit up and down with

:30:05.:30:08.

him. He looks like he's snapping the forehand and you think he's got it

:30:09.:30:13.

now and then he plays a sloppy shot. Berdych got more solid in that

:30:14.:30:17.

second set, clamped down and didn't do anything to spectacular, just got

:30:18.:30:21.

ahead of his man early on and held on with his serve. Now at 2-0,

:30:22.:30:26.

Berdych has to keep motivated and get off to an early start here.

:30:27.:30:33.

Pouille may be tired but he has to say listen, if I continue like this,

:30:34.:30:38.

I'm going out anyway. I may as well go out fighting and firing. Because

:30:39.:30:42.

he's got that than this. He played superbly against Bernard Tomic.

:30:43.:30:51.

He is trying. It's a quarter-final of a Grand Slam, you have to just

:30:52.:31:00.

put it all on the line. No doubt he is feeling it.

:31:01.:31:50.

Pouille was motoring along here, but perhaps not. Just got careful on

:31:51.:32:17.

that backhand volley and just guided it.

:32:18.:32:21.

There it is. And the ideal start for Pouille.

:32:22.:32:32.

That's his brother on the left side there.

:32:33.:32:39.

Jonathan and his partner in the middle there.

:32:40.:32:46.

In the middle there, Jonathan. It has been a tremendous run by the

:32:47.:32:51.

Frenchman to get here and it's not over yet. He is still in this match.

:32:52.:32:58.

He has to dig deep. He lost in the first round in Stuttgart coming in

:32:59.:33:05.

here, so this is a great adventure, not yet over.

:33:06.:33:26.

Berdych also lost in the first round also in Germany.

:33:27.:34:25.

An improvised role there. He couldn't take a big back swing on

:34:26.:34:38.

this. He shortened it up, got the angle right, that was the important

:34:39.:34:41.

thing. Clips around the outside of the ball. Excellent recovery.

:34:42.:35:25.

Looks like either Ukrainian or Swedish.

:35:26.:36:32.

Again a glimpse of an opening here for Berdych.

:36:33.:36:44.

A few encouraging cries for Pouille. He needs some help.

:36:45.:36:58.

Oh! Better positions now, he is landing

:36:59.:38:50.

a few more first serves but he is certainly looking a little bit

:38:51.:38:58.

tired. Another break point, Berdych. UMPIRE: Net. First service.

:38:59.:39:22.

Bird has it and the road back now for Lucas Pouille gets longer still.

:39:23.:39:30.

-- Berdych. A man with one giant foot already in

:39:31.:39:42.

the semifinals, you fancy, it's difficult to see Pouille coming back

:39:43.:39:44.

into this. It's all happened without a minimum

:39:45.:39:53.

of fuss from Berdych. He's not really been pushed out of his

:39:54.:39:58.

comfort zone. No, he can certainly play better than this but he is just

:39:59.:40:01.

doing enough. Another example here of Pouille, you think he is in

:40:02.:40:04.

charge but he doesn't get close enough to the net. He should have

:40:05.:40:09.

been another two feet in. That volley from that position is a very

:40:10.:40:14.

difficult volley to hit. There were two in that game where he could have

:40:15.:40:18.

closed closer in and had to hit volleys from the service line. You

:40:19.:40:21.

can't really get away with that. UMPIRE: Time.

:40:22.:40:31.

Berdych is closing in on a place in the semifinal. The winner of this

:40:32.:40:35.

will play the winner of the match on Centre Court at the moment. Andy

:40:36.:40:52.

Murray and Jo Tsonga. And new balls. Tomas Berdych with the break.

:40:53.:40:57.

UMPIRE: Net. First service. He needs something, Pouille. He

:40:58.:41:40.

needs a couple of gifts from Berdych to help him on his way.

:41:41.:41:57.

It's just been such a feature, that first serve in the corner. Doesn't

:41:58.:42:05.

serve that many aces for someone that size but it's so accurate. Then

:42:06.:42:09.

he gets that second strike and that's where he can do the damage on

:42:10.:42:14.

that forehand side. That's nicely done. Unfortunate with

:42:15.:43:24.

the slip there, Pouille. It's an opposite effect on the court now.

:43:25.:43:28.

The first week it was because the court was damp and now it's too dry!

:43:29.:43:32.

That touch is lovely. He had that drop that short. Pouille was so

:43:33.:43:38.

quick ready for the next one. Look at the back spin there. Fields that

:43:39.:43:41.

ball over with the back spin. Oh!

:43:42.:44:10.

Stepped into that one. That was one of the best returns

:44:11.:44:14.

he's hit. It was a good body swerve and he managed to get his body out

:44:15.:44:18.

of the way and direct that back down the line. A lot of pace.

:44:19.:44:28.

A little puff of white and Berdych moves along.

:44:29.:44:56.

Oh! That's a pity. Fantastic backhand there and that's his point

:44:57.:45:05.

really. Just so far out. That to me is like a mental error. That's just

:45:06.:45:11.

all the physical side coming in. And not being in a position in the

:45:12.:45:18.

quarters of a Grand Slam, it's caught up with him, it looks.

:45:19.:45:26.

He is trying. He is fighting. He is not giving this away but it's not

:45:27.:45:37.

there. The legs, not getting in the right position enough.

:45:38.:45:50.

Oh, dear! A point that he should have won and he looked rather lost

:45:51.:45:59.

as the ball sailed above his head. Didn't know where it was.

:46:00.:46:03.

Not much a coach can do in this position. Three break points.

:46:04.:46:19.

Oh! Well, that is emphatically done by Tomas Berdych, the double break

:46:20.:46:35.

and motoring towards victory now. You were right what you said there.

:46:36.:46:40.

Not much a coach can do. There is nothing he can do. This is

:46:41.:46:44.

unchartered territory for him. He has had an amazing tournament.

:46:45.:46:48.

Wasn't supposed to be here. He's come through. You learn from an

:46:49.:46:51.

experience like this. If he goes on to lose this match it's not over

:46:52.:46:55.

yet, but he is in big trouble obviously, this will be the sort of

:46:56.:46:58.

thing the coach will say you have to get used to this type of thing. You

:46:59.:47:02.

have to get physically stronger. You have to get used to playing these

:47:03.:47:07.

type of matches and knowing when you get to a Grand Slam this is the

:47:08.:47:11.

thing you are going to expect. It takes sometime sometimes. And this

:47:12.:47:14.

is only his second Wimbledon. He lost in the first round last year to

:47:15.:47:19.

Kevin Anderson, so a massive improvement, not just in Wimbledon

:47:20.:47:24.

but any Grand Slam. Second round of the French this year and in 2013.

:47:25.:47:29.

So, to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, it's not over yet, but

:47:30.:47:32.

it's looking that way, it's a huge step and he is going to move up to

:47:33.:47:37.

21st in the world. He is taking big steps. But this is just a step too

:47:38.:47:39.

far. Sometimes he has to work so hard to

:47:40.:48:33.

get down as a big man to these low balls and squash - look it's like

:48:34.:48:39.

oak trees carrying him around the court. So strong.

:48:40.:49:01.

The other interesting thing about Berdych in the era of super coaches

:49:02.:49:06.

and everyone talking about what they can do, he's not got a coach. He has

:49:07.:49:12.

a physio, a trainer but he hasn't got a coach after splitting with one

:49:13.:49:19.

and doing it himself, doing it pretty well. There is no secret of

:49:20.:49:28.

the fact he wanted Ivan Lendl, but that relationship didn't happen.

:49:29.:49:38.

I think if you were choosing as Lendl, choosing to work with Murray

:49:39.:49:45.

or Berdych, you would know who had the better raw materials to perhaps

:49:46.:49:49.

give you a little bit more success. Although Berdych is hugely talented,

:49:50.:49:50.

as well. Oh! Gorgeous point. Brilliant.

:49:51.:50:42.

Didn't think he was going to get that ball.

:50:43.:50:47.

In a match which has sometimes failed to live up to the hype and

:50:48.:50:50.

excitement, this was an outstanding point.

:50:51.:50:58.

Some high quality from both men there.

:50:59.:51:04.

Now Berdych closes in and Pouille serving to stay in the match.

:51:05.:51:24.

Eight double faults, that's far too high.

:51:25.:52:24.

That's what's got him in trouble. Second serve again, Berdych getting

:52:25.:52:35.

right on top of that serve and putting the Frenchman in trouble.

:52:36.:53:18.

UMPIRE: Advantage Pouille. Still knocking them down at 130mph.

:53:19.:53:48.

But also some very, again fatigue looking shots from Pouille.

:53:49.:54:07.

UMPIRE: Advantage Berdych. So Berdych on the Pouille serve has his

:54:08.:54:17.

first match point. Finally some noise from court number one.

:54:18.:54:18.

APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

:54:19.:54:49.

A great second serve. That's a fantastic second serve from Pouille.

:54:50.:55:46.

STUDIO: Missed opportunities from Berdych there. Sadly, we have to

:55:47.:55:50.

leave this match on BBC Two because we are heading over to Centre as our

:55:51.:55:54.

time is running out on BBC One. If you want to continue matching this

:55:55.:55:59.

match it is on the red button and, of course, we will update you with

:56:00.:56:03.

it over here on BBC Two. We will update you here on BBC Two.

:56:04.:56:07.

But everybody watching the big screen and everybody watching the

:56:08.:56:12.

watch on Centre Court because it's so tight. It's in the tie-break.

:56:13.:56:17.

Tsonga has had a couple of set points. It's 6-6 on Centre Court.

:56:18.:56:23.

Let's join our commentators out there.

:56:24.:57:14.

APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

:57:15.:58:56.

He's done it again. Are you kidding? We all said that's the weaker wing

:58:57.:59:09.

of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. One great cross-court to set up a point. He

:59:10.:59:16.

fought that one off. It was a good return by Andy Murray. Look at his

:59:17.:59:25.

second serve on set point. Might be better when he is just reacting.

:59:26.:59:44.

CHUCKLES Two matches after this one!

:59:45.:00:37.

Oh! That was a very fine volley. He could have used a first serve but

:00:38.:00:48.

didn't get it. That is a great volley from Tsonga, a volley with

:00:49.:00:56.

intent. The return was really close to going over the baseline. That is

:00:57.:01:04.

clearly where Murray was hoping that ball would float, a little long.

:01:05.:01:06.

Surprised it dropped in. The course of potentially five sets

:01:07.:01:17.

in the final match. There seems to be a lock on this first set. -- a

:01:18.:01:22.

lot on it. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:01:23.:02:01.

These guys are going at it! I will tell you that. That is great tennis.

:02:02.:02:09.

What a point. The noise off the racket from both. Just the

:02:10.:02:17.

physicality... This man is made of granite.

:02:18.:02:20.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Oh! That's why Murray does the

:02:21.:03:24.

hours! Was that a 30 yard run? He had to be balanced when he got

:03:25.:03:30.

there, he had to pick his timing. Jo wasn't equal to it.

:03:31.:04:16.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE One set to Murray. One step closer

:04:17.:04:30.

to another semifinal at Wimbledon. That was a fine hour and 17 minutes.

:04:31.:04:37.

Both players playing brilliant tennis together.

:04:38.:04:42.

Wow, what a set of tennis that was. Great athlete, unbelievable

:04:43.:04:49.

competitor, Andy Murray. What tension, what drama, what a day we

:04:50.:04:54.

are having on Centre Court. This was the moment that Andy Murray took the

:04:55.:04:59.

first set here. Great approach from him there and then right into the

:05:00.:05:07.

open court, making no mistake. So, that is Andy Murray taking the first

:05:08.:05:11.

set here on Centre Court. I say we've had the most incredible day

:05:12.:05:20.

here today because earlier Roger Federer was in action and came back

:05:21.:05:24.

from two sets to love down against Marin Cilic. This has just happened

:05:25.:05:29.

on Court One, where Tomas Berdych has come through against Lucas

:05:30.:05:37.

Pouille, 7-6, 6-3, 6-2. Lucas Pouille has had a wonderful

:05:38.:05:45.

tournament, getting through to his first quarterfinal. I mention Roger

:05:46.:05:53.

Federer, and what an absolute thriller this was. Two sets down

:05:54.:05:59.

against Marin Cilic but just coming through and getting better and

:06:00.:06:03.

better as the match went on. What a great champion and what a great

:06:04.:06:07.

fighter as well. The Centre Court crowd rise to a great champion, who

:06:08.:06:12.

showed how to come back in a match when he looked down and out. Never,

:06:13.:06:20.

ever count this man out. Wonderful scenes on Centre Court. If they have

:06:21.:06:25.

had a ticket there today, they have had an absolute treat. And he will

:06:26.:06:35.

play Melos Raonic in the semifinal. He came through in the battle of the

:06:36.:06:38.

big servers on Court One, Sam Querrey.

:06:39.:06:45.

Once again he will meet Roger Federer here in a semifinal at

:06:46.:06:52.

Wimbledon. He showed those qualities in the Queen's Club final, carrying

:06:53.:07:03.

them through here to the semifinal once again.

:07:04.:07:04.

This is the scene here, they are what watching Andy Murray and they

:07:05.:07:13.

were cheering loudly during that tie-break. What tension during that

:07:14.:07:18.

tie-break. Certainly the British fans enjoying the fact that Andy

:07:19.:07:21.

Murray has taken the opening set in this match. We knew it would be a

:07:22.:07:25.

tough one, against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He certainly had his

:07:26.:07:30.

chances, but he is as tough as granite, Andy Murray, and he has

:07:31.:07:35.

taken the first set. We are all ready to carry on, straight into the

:07:36.:07:42.

evening. Andy Murray a set up but a long way to go.

:07:43.:07:49.

COMMENTATOR: Andy Murray, returns in play at break point. On all points,

:07:50.:07:56.

OK, Andy Murray gets his racket on the ball a lot, we know that. But on

:07:57.:08:04.

break point, 100% of the time. Good percentage from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

:08:05.:08:07.

as well, indicating the standard he achieved in that first set. I played

:08:08.:08:14.

against some great return is in my day, Jimmy Connors, Andrei Agassi.

:08:15.:08:18.

This guide takes it to a whole new level. These guys, Djokovic and

:08:19.:08:27.

Murray specifically, six foot two and a half, six foot three. Their

:08:28.:08:33.

wingspan, there quick is, it's so tough to get the ball by these guys.

:08:34.:08:40.

They have taken returning to a whole new level. It's amazing.

:08:41.:09:05.

Lleyton Hewitt, what has Jo got left? There will be a little lull?

:09:06.:09:15.

He will be frustrated not to have closed it out. Plus he came back and

:09:16.:09:20.

fought hard from down an early break in that first set as well. He was

:09:21.:09:26.

being aggressive and I thought he really took it to Andy in that

:09:27.:09:31.

tie-break. Looking for his opportunities to move forward. He's

:09:32.:09:32.

going to have to play on the edge. You just wonder if he can have the

:09:33.:10:01.

confidence to keep coming in. At 6-5 serving in that tie-break he went

:10:02.:10:05.

for the big serve-volley and Andy Murray hit a fantastic return of

:10:06.:10:08.

serve and then an even better passing shot.

:10:09.:10:23.

Lleyton, you were around my height. Did you ever think when you saw how

:10:24.:10:39.

good these guys were at returning there should be like weight

:10:40.:10:44.

divisions in tennis! CHUCKLES

:10:45.:10:50.

I wish I had half their service. I would give you two or three inches

:10:51.:11:03.

of height for some of your titles! How well these guys move, especially

:11:04.:11:05.

round the back of the court. So, this is the most important

:11:06.:11:23.

passage of play in this whole match now for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He's

:11:24.:11:28.

disappointed after losing the first set, throwing everything in for an

:11:29.:11:33.

hour and 15, an hour and 20 and he got nothing for it. He must

:11:34.:11:37.

establish himself in this second set. I think the most important

:11:38.:11:43.

passage was 6-5 in the tie-break. Well, that too... When he

:11:44.:11:46.

serve-volleyed. Six straight points for Murray. He

:11:47.:11:59.

knows where we are in the match. This is where the question marks

:12:00.:12:02.

have been over Tsonga and whether he can get over the line in a Grand

:12:03.:12:07.

Slam, over two weeks, best of five set matches. He plays some

:12:08.:12:10.

extraordinary tennis but then he will have some roles and you just

:12:11.:12:14.

can't do it against the best players. -- some lulls.

:12:15.:12:28.

He just popped his return in the middle of the court at 0-30.

:12:29.:13:06.

UMPIRE: 15-40. Mr Tsonga challenging the call, left service line. The

:13:07.:13:21.

ball was called out. His coaches and his girlfriend up there, Jo-Wilfried

:13:22.:13:25.

Tsonga. A little disappointed now in this opening service game.

:13:26.:13:29.

Remember, he went 18-17 -- 19-17 in the fifth against John Isner is a

:13:30.:13:50.

few days ago. He meant to play Richard Gasquet but that was only 24

:13:51.:13:55.

minutes long, 4-2 and out, ask a hurting his back. But Tsonga looks

:13:56.:13:57.

tired. APPLAUSE

:13:58.:14:39.

Deflated might be the better word right now. He worked so hard to get

:14:40.:14:46.

back into the set and in a winning position. He is letting it affect

:14:47.:14:54.

his play right now. Murray sensing that and jumping on it.

:14:55.:15:31.

New balls, please. Murray leads three games to love, second set, and

:15:32.:15:50.

by one set to love. For an hour and a quarter or so, we had an absolute

:15:51.:15:54.

further, and now things have settled down a bit. Andy Murray well in

:15:55.:16:00.

control of this quarterfinal match. There is Court Number One on the

:16:01.:16:04.

right-hand side. In 2019, that will have a roof on and a couple more

:16:05.:16:07.

layers of seats commit 2900 seats. You can see London into the

:16:08.:16:28.

distance. This is Henman Hill. The picnic terrace. Andy Murray quite

:16:29.:16:37.

happy to acknowledge... He will take the Wimbledon trophy instead! That

:16:38.:16:45.

was very slippery, some of those banks, very slippery in the first

:16:46.:16:47.

week. Those darkened windows, the

:16:48.:17:10.

broadcast centre. Newish Court Three. 15,000 people in here now

:17:11.:17:16.

enjoying a ninth consecutive quarterfinal for Andy Murray.

:17:17.:17:27.

You guys both won here. I'm so jealous! What a great feeling.

:17:28.:17:39.

Do you remember your match point, Lleyton? Absolutely. I was fortunate

:17:40.:17:47.

enough to be up two sets to love and a double break. I was trying to

:17:48.:17:52.

block it out when I got up to serve. I got up 40-0, hit a double fault,

:17:53.:17:59.

and then decided to just rally and wait for Nalbandian to make an

:18:00.:18:02.

error. Oh dear! He might think about that

:18:03.:18:18.

one for a lifetime! Make him play another shot. Jo, a tad too lazy...

:18:19.:18:28.

CHUCKLES That's a nice way of putting it.

:18:29.:19:12.

His back hand-held are truly well in that tie-break with a couple of big

:19:13.:19:18.

winners in ages, but already in this set he has made some bad errors. Do

:19:19.:19:35.

you think that is directly related to his head from the first set?

:19:36.:19:40.

Absolutely. He probably knows as well as we do that his record

:19:41.:19:43.

against Andy isn't great. He hasn't one that many sets especially in

:19:44.:19:48.

recent times. To come back now and win in four or five is a big ask. It

:19:49.:19:54.

is certainly looking like it would have to be in five, now.

:19:55.:20:02.

Murray just piles on the pressure, meantime. Relentless. Two rakes.

:20:03.:20:15.

-- two breaks. We saw him play so nonchalantly at 30-0 up and just see

:20:16.:20:24.

what could happen. I remember your first match that you

:20:25.:20:39.

won here, John. I just wanted to say when you asked that... Which one?

:20:40.:20:43.

LAUGHTER We will give you a whole change of

:20:44.:20:52.

ends to talk about it. I just wanted to say that, that's all!

:20:53.:21:03.

Is a picture of Judy Murray just a moment ago. I know parents looking

:21:04.:21:26.

down on their kids playing on Centre Court, nobody had a harder time than

:21:27.:21:29.

your poor mum and dad, John! CHUCKLES

:21:30.:21:34.

5-0 is looming. This is Kyrgios like! Oh! You want to talk about

:21:35.:22:02.

that again? That is what Andy Murray does two players, John. First set,

:22:03.:22:05.

weathers the storm. I know that you have three children,

:22:06.:22:26.

is that correct? If Nick Kyrgios called you tomorrow and said I want

:22:27.:22:32.

you to be my full-time coach, would you be willing to do that? No, I'm

:22:33.:22:38.

Davis Cup coach, or Captain, so... You can't do both? No, my job is to

:22:39.:22:47.

look after the Australian players. I'm here to focus on the Davis Cup

:22:48.:22:55.

and he knows that. He is finding his way at the moment like a log of

:22:56.:23:00.

young kids. He's not going to be at the Olympic Games because he fell

:23:01.:23:06.

out with the Australian chef the mission. There are a lot of things

:23:07.:23:12.

happening behind-the-scenes that the public donors as early know about

:23:13.:23:15.

and it's not for me to go into that, but he was frustrated. He wanted to

:23:16.:23:19.

play the Olympics, but he felt there were certain things and people

:23:20.:23:23.

against him with that. Nick wants to play for Australia and wants to

:23:24.:23:26.

represent his country. I think he would be very good in that

:23:27.:23:30.

environment if he did turn up and play. I looking forward to the

:23:31.:23:39.

opportunity of sitting on the sidelines with him in a Davis Cup

:23:40.:23:44.

game. What happened in America, you guys didn't play? He was sick. He

:23:45.:23:51.

had a virus. He tried to play in Melbourne and medical staff ruled

:23:52.:23:55.

him out an hour before the draw. Final Kyrgios question! Thanks,

:23:56.:24:00.

John. Thank you. Would you recommend to him that he get a full-time

:24:01.:24:06.

coach? Absolutely, but he has do find the right one and he has to put

:24:07.:24:10.

full trust in that person. That is the big thing. Final one, does he

:24:11.:24:16.

have a PO box that John can send his CV to?

:24:17.:24:20.

CHUCKLES I don't know if John would get a

:24:21.:24:25.

response. Congratulations on Milos Raonic, by the way. Yeah, Simi

:24:26.:24:27.

finalist. Important for Tsonga to get on the

:24:28.:24:48.

board, just so that at least he can serve for the first time in the

:24:49.:24:52.

third set and get a lead, get something going again. A long way

:24:53.:24:54.

back right now. Well, he didn't play from the French

:24:55.:25:18.

when he had to pull out in the third round, up 5-2, until Wimbledon. That

:25:19.:25:28.

was that 19-17 -- perhaps that 19-17 match that you mentioned, Andrew,

:25:29.:25:32.

had more of an effect than losing the first set. Pulled out of the

:25:33.:25:41.

French Open with an adductor injury. Inside of the leg.

:25:42.:26:03.

The backhand is getting him into trouble at the moment and you sense

:26:04.:26:09.

that Andy Murray can see that. He's going after that side. The first

:26:10.:26:14.

set, he was trying to open up the backhand more by going to the

:26:15.:26:17.

forehand. Now he's just straight attacking the backhand wing.

:26:18.:26:21.

APPLAUSE Murray just working Tsonga side to

:26:22.:27:33.

side. The physical specimens are the

:27:34.:27:45.

standard in the world of men's tennis.

:27:46.:27:53.

Boy how the complexion and the field around the place changed when

:27:54.:27:58.

Djokovic lost to Sam Querrey on Court One.

:27:59.:28:08.

I don't think Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is going to expend too much energy

:28:09.:28:16.

here, in the latter stages of the second set. Roger Federer making it

:28:17.:28:21.

through to the semifinal stage here despite any a handful of tournaments

:28:22.:28:27.

this year. No Rafael Nadal, wrist injuries kept him out. The news

:28:28.:28:34.

coming out of Mallorca is that he's going to start playing in a couple

:28:35.:28:38.

of weeks' time. How much truth there is do that, we will see. Just a

:28:39.:28:40.

holding press release, really. Only two double faults in the

:28:41.:29:04.

tournament for Andy Murray. UMPIRE: Mr Tsonga challenging the

:29:05.:29:29.

call. Tsonga challenging here. This brings up set point.

:29:30.:29:38.

UMPIRE: Game and second set, Murray. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:29:39.:29:47.

The first set was an absolute classic at 12-10 in the tie-breaker.

:29:48.:29:52.

The second one, about a third of the time, just 26 minutes. Murray wins

:29:53.:30:02.

6-1. That's a pretty revealing is that, that release apprised me, that

:30:03.:30:06.

he has only doubled twice the entire tournament. -- really surprised me.

:30:07.:30:13.

The influence of Ivan Lewis will -- Ivan Lendl, do I have two?

:30:14.:30:24.

Set and a break to your man. You lost! You know... I thought it was a

:30:25.:30:46.

great match. It was unfortunate, Milos had that challenge, 30-40,

:30:47.:30:56.

would have made it 4-1. Turned the tide! But you have got to credit

:30:57.:31:03.

Murray. I am just going to tell you, do something, I don't normally do,

:31:04.:31:12.

props to Lendl. He has done a tremendous job, outstanding, as

:31:13.:31:18.

coach, he has always been meticulous, I have not been close

:31:19.:31:25.

around Andy but I think he has given him everything that he has asked

:31:26.:31:31.

for, belief. Unfortunately, I was the recipient of Ivan getting his

:31:32.:31:43.

first major. Similar for Andy, he had respect and credibility, been

:31:44.:31:49.

there, done that. And eventually won eight slams. This is the exact

:31:50.:31:59.

reason why Murray signed him. Didn't hurt to be nice to him? I remember I

:32:00.:32:08.

was in Australia, when I found out Andy had hired Ivan. I thought it

:32:09.:32:15.

cannot be doing that. Then seconds later, I thought this is going to

:32:16.:32:25.

work! And hats off to Goran, round robin doubles. Playing Bjorkman,

:32:26.:32:39.

Johanssen. Sat through his man having match points against Federer.

:32:40.:32:46.

The two days matches I have seen him play, he was unbelievable, right

:32:47.:32:54.

there, a killer. Hard one to get over. Old enough for all that now?

:32:55.:33:07.

Certainly old enough. Match was on his racket. Serving huge. Tired on

:33:08.:33:17.

his forehand. Especially second serve returns. Here we go. Two sets

:33:18.:33:24.

to Murray. The focus is... Exactly laser like.

:33:25.:34:35.

Wasn't sure about that footwork! Inches in the baseline.

:34:36.:34:59.

Working him over. In squash, you play a working ball, ten, 15

:35:00.:35:14.

minutes, down the wall... Every ball working Tsonga. Tearing strength

:35:15.:35:22.

from his muscles. Good for Tsonga. Good game to win.

:35:23.:36:47.

Well done. You felt like the match was over if he lost serve early. At

:36:48.:36:55.

least he can point to something positive. Head back. We saw him beat

:36:56.:37:12.

Federer here. Two sets down, 2011. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 31 now. Still

:37:13.:37:17.

number 12 in the world. Four times Tsonga has come back from

:37:18.:38:00.

two down to win in five. 10th time Roger had come back from

:38:01.:38:40.

two down. Murray, nine times. How many for you Lleyton? Not as many as

:38:41.:38:55.

ten! I can hear your brain working! Becker.

:38:56.:39:11.

This is Tsonga's chance. There's been a lull. The crowd and perhaps

:39:12.:39:19.

Murray. Get something going. That was an important first serve.

:39:20.:39:43.

Tsonga, looting to dictate play, big forehand.

:39:44.:40:15.

John, you? From two down? Couple of times. Not often! Just won easily?

:40:16.:40:37.

Wish that was true! Now you're in the spirit Lleyton!

:40:38.:40:49.

Actually felt the opposite. Felt I didn't fight hard enough!

:40:50.:40:56.

Competitiveness was never a weakness of yours! One of the epic feats in

:40:57.:41:07.

tennis. Badge of honour. What a volley! If his body is hurting,

:41:08.:41:18.

it'll have been strained with that! Good move. He is going to have to

:41:19.:42:47.

keep doing that. You could see Murray on full stretch. Only chip it

:42:48.:42:48.

back. So it's getting to the net, high

:42:49.:42:59.

back. Murray, championship winner 2013,

:43:00.:43:21.

trying to join Bjorn Borg with the number of Wimbledon wins. Five

:43:22.:43:30.

straight. This guy from America came over! High forehand volley down the

:43:31.:43:45.

line! Tight! Could barely breathe! Zero having much of a sweet spot.

:43:46.:43:56.

I'll have only one record. At the end of my life. Lost the others!

:43:57.:44:05.

Last guy to win a major with a wooden racket! Can't take that from

:44:06.:44:19.

you! The other three guys to beat Bjorn? Was I born? His last

:44:20.:44:35.

Wimbledon, 81. I'll let you ponder. No search engines.

:44:36.:45:46.

Nastase? No. This whipper snapper born in 81!

:45:47.:46:31.

Tsonga has a foothold in this set. Murray has got something to

:46:32.:46:37.

contained with. -- contend with. Very fine return of serve. Murray

:46:38.:47:11.

clearly not thinking it was going in. Got some belief here.

:47:12.:47:42.

Just long! Going to be a challenge. Hawk Eye system. Get the challenge

:47:43.:48:06.

right... But Murray will lose one. Great system. Introduced 2007.

:48:07.:48:22.

Tsonga took a bodyblow, losing the first set tie break 12-10. Finally,

:48:23.:48:30.

Tsonga putting some pressure on the Murray serve. Massive return on

:48:31.:48:35.

break point. Murray had a good look at a return,

:48:36.:49:17.

30-30, Tsonga a different guy out there now.

:49:18.:49:44.

Tennis is such a mental sport. One on one. Nowhere to hide. The

:49:45.:49:55.

pressure that Tsonga could have put on the Murray serve, hitting more

:49:56.:50:13.

forehands... Quality. Dropping the racket head. Backspin. Get it wrong.

:50:14.:50:25.

Double bogey. Gorgeous. Hard to do with that spin on it.

:50:26.:50:57.

Ladies and gentleman, do not call out before the player hits the ball.

:50:58.:51:01.

Thanks. Tough to pull that off consistently.

:51:02.:51:29.

That's for sure. Flat volley we see here... Gives

:51:30.:52:31.

Murray ample time. Easier to pull off the top-spin lob when it sits

:52:32.:52:32.

up. This is frustrating Murray, finding

:52:33.:52:50.

it extremely hard to get back, deuce then Tsonga with the big ace.

:52:51.:53:18.

One way traffic, second set. 2-0 Murray. But this is the glory of

:53:19.:53:36.

five set tennis. The people who have beaten Bjorg at Wimbledon. Arthur

:53:37.:53:45.

Ashe. Roger Taylor. Ebb and flow of five set tennis. It is a different

:53:46.:53:53.

test, for the body. Absolutely. And we do not play it for the rest of

:53:54.:54:10.

the year, first set tie break could go either way, Jo calmed down at the

:54:11.:54:17.

end of the second set. Found his rhythm. It is also difficult, to

:54:18.:54:23.

keep concentration, at this level, no matter how good you are. You have

:54:24.:54:30.

said that as the difficult thing, the concentration, not the

:54:31.:54:34.

physicality. I absolutely believe that. It is the combination, but

:54:35.:54:43.

even more credit, to Mr Federer for what he was able to accomplish

:54:44.:54:49.

today, against somebody playing so well as Cilic. Saved three match

:54:50.:54:58.

points. Two service games. Then a tie break. Trouble in the third set.

:54:59.:55:11.

Jo's having trouble with the racket! Exactly.

:55:12.:56:29.

Don't get in too many long rallies...

:56:30.:57:01.

Murray might be trying to keep him in a couple. Wear him out before he

:57:02.:57:06.

serves. Big hitting here. Jo-Wilfried

:57:07.:57:47.

Tsonga, great depth. Getting the opportunity, to come forward with

:57:48.:57:48.

the big forehand. This is an extremely difficult shot.

:57:49.:58:21.

Ball was moving through the court. Beautiful job, from Murray.

:58:22.:59:12.

Oh! Unreal, unreal! Yet another body blow for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. You

:59:13.:59:39.

wonder what he has left! Brutal! We are leaving here on BBC Two. But

:59:40.:59:49.

this continues, an BBC One. It has got a long way to go. One Show on

:59:50.:59:53.

BBC Two. For tennis, BBC One. Bye.
