:01:48.:02:08.

The last of 12 new events in the games, snowboarding's Parallel

:02:09.:03:02.

Slalom exits debut. -- makes its debut.

:03:03.:03:08.

The women's marathon, 30 kilometres of racing on skinny skis and we

:03:09.:03:11.

could be in for another classic jewel between Bjorgen file check. --

:03:12.:03:19.

and Koval check. Britain's first man to win a winter

:03:20.:03:30.

Olympic medal of any colour, Dave Murdoch and his team have buoyed

:03:31.:03:32.

everybody up with their curling silver.

:03:33.:03:40.

It wasn't quite the curling grand finale we had hoped for, but we are

:03:41.:03:47.

not complaining. Dave Murdoch said silver is still supercool, after his

:03:48.:03:54.

mental were rather outmuscled by the Canadians -- his men.

:03:55.:03:59.

There is a perception about curling that it is a genteel sports, it

:04:00.:04:03.

stands out from the rest of the Olympic events, but make no mistake.

:04:04.:04:10.

On their, in the ice, this is going to be a battle.

:04:11.:04:17.

In David Murdoch we have a leader who has been defeated before, both

:04:18.:04:27.

in jewellery and Vancouver, it ended badly, but he believed this was his

:04:28.:04:32.

high. We also know these chances don't come along very often.

:04:33.:04:38.

Putting so much work with these guys, it is a dream come true, we

:04:39.:04:44.

are going to do everything we can, fight till the last.

:04:45.:04:48.

Do you go through the same torture everybody else does?

:04:49.:04:52.

I have been watching this for 20 years with the family, I tend to be

:04:53.:04:57.

the quieter one, maybe get packages near the end. I don't get too

:04:58.:05:02.

excited. He is an amazing skip, and amazing leader.

:05:03.:05:07.

He leads the others on, and drives them to be the shots they do.

:05:08.:05:11.

Then ultimately that is curling, it comes down to him.

:05:12.:05:16.

That is when I started get a wee flutter.

:05:17.:05:22.

The first end was dramatic, Canada at point line four.

:05:23.:05:37.

COMMENTATOR: What a great shot! Fantastic shot.

:05:38.:05:46.

The sweeper is watching it, they will guide it in, nice straw from

:05:47.:05:53.

the Canadian skip, get their two in the first end. They do have the

:05:54.:05:54.

early lead. Murdoch went straight into the

:05:55.:06:04.

huddle, big smile. Cannot be that bad. Britain got one back in the

:06:05.:06:10.

second. COMMENTATOR: It will be close. It is

:06:11.:06:18.

not the two he wanted. Going to catch the guard. Oh, dear.

:06:19.:06:26.

They need to work that hard to get past for instance. -- their own

:06:27.:06:35.

stone. We have been hanging on, asking him to make a big shots, he

:06:36.:06:39.

said he couldn't keep doing that. He has been trying to rescue his team.

:06:40.:06:47.

Couldn't be going any worse. This has got to be right, he must get the

:06:48.:06:53.

two here. He is looking to get an edge, it needs to move. Has it got

:06:54.:07:02.

anything? It has got to turn quick enough to be able to catch that

:07:03.:07:12.

Canadian stone. Stop there. Has he even got one? Move your head, can't

:07:13.:07:24.

see. That was close. It is yet another little notch ratcheted up.

:07:25.:07:34.

With one and to go before the break getting back on the board was

:07:35.:07:37.

crucial. This should be good enough for one.

:07:38.:07:41.

I think it is. Pretty close to a terrible start. It

:07:42.:07:46.

is not the start we wanted. We really had to come out firing and

:07:47.:07:50.

keep the score close. Is it all over? It is not over until the last

:07:51.:07:57.

stone is thrown, there are ten ends to go. If we can get a two back here

:07:58.:08:04.

and still a couple, just to get the scoreline tighter and put pressure

:08:05.:08:08.

on Canada. We need to step up a gear and place the more shots.

:08:09.:08:13.

Great Britain were really up against it. That is another two. A big gap

:08:14.:08:19.

now. STEVE CRAM: this is a huge mountain

:08:20.:08:32.

to climb. Not a lot of chances. Murdoch's men had the hammer, they

:08:33.:08:36.

needed to score two to have any chance of getting back into the

:08:37.:08:47.

game. That is sad. It has just been the

:08:48.:08:49.

story of this Olympic final. 8-3 down, and Murdoch had very few

:08:50.:08:56.

options. They have fought hard in this final

:08:57.:09:11.

to try and resurrect something, get something going. It has been an

:09:12.:09:16.

upsell struggle. -- uphill struggle. By Jacob sending out what could be

:09:17.:09:24.

the last stone. -- Brad Jacobs. They will be 9-3 ahead. He just needs to

:09:25.:09:32.

sit here. Canada lead 9-3. There is a discussion going on with the

:09:33.:09:37.

British team. That visit. I don't see them finishing this. This is the

:09:38.:09:43.

game over. Enough is enough. Brad Jacobs and his team the medallists.

:09:44.:09:49.

Dave Murdoch and his team will reflect in the coming hours, on a

:09:50.:09:54.

silver medal which was thoroughly deserved. HAZEL IRVINE: They have

:09:55.:10:01.

just surfaced. We got to be pretty late, we thought

:10:02.:10:12.

we deserved celebration. A great week, and enjoy the moment. I am

:10:13.:10:17.

sure it was very well-deserved. When you look back on it all, does the

:10:18.:10:22.

pleasure far outweigh the pain of defeat?

:10:23.:10:26.

It does now. It was pretty tough last night, not the performance we

:10:27.:10:30.

wanted, we believed we could get that gold, just had that bad start

:10:31.:10:34.

or put us on the back foot. At the end of the day you look back, it has

:10:35.:10:39.

been incredible. To come away with silver, it is something we have been

:10:40.:10:42.

chasing for some time, great to get a medal.

:10:43.:10:46.

You are chasing the game from the start. You played a brilliant last

:10:47.:10:53.

stone to limit the damage. Unfortunately we didn't get our

:10:54.:10:56.

stones in the right place. Against these boys, they can hit, once you

:10:57.:11:01.

are done you never really clawing back. Was in the game we wanted but

:11:02.:11:04.

we can still hold our heads high and we got our silver medal.

:11:05.:11:12.

And you knew they just loved to hit, they were going to play a

:11:13.:11:16.

hitting game all day. They are pretty well known for

:11:17.:11:19.

that. We will always struggle to get back in when we are four down, but

:11:20.:11:25.

we came down from four down against Denmark. Didn't gripe that the

:11:26.:11:31.

stones in the right place and went further behind.

:11:32.:11:36.

It was a fairly muscle-bound match. Some people felt it was fairly

:11:37.:11:43.

intimidating, out there. Fair play to Canada for putting you through

:11:44.:11:45.

that. Watching it from the sidelines, what was the feeling like

:11:46.:11:54.

between the teams afterwards? You don't really say much, to be

:11:55.:11:57.

honest. By the time you go through all the press and all that, and some

:11:58.:12:03.

of them were drug tested as well, you don't see much of them. You

:12:04.:12:10.

shake their hand, say well played, move on, do our own thing.

:12:11.:12:18.

There was an interesting moment, will you auditioning early for the

:12:19.:12:23.

charity curling calendar? It wasn't ideal, putting the wrong T-shirts

:12:24.:12:27.

on. I was getting changed and I had the T-shirts we work around the

:12:28.:12:32.

village, the same ones as we play in. I accidentally kept it on.

:12:33.:12:40.

It was a very funny moment. We will always remember the progress

:12:41.:12:44.

to the final, particularly the matches against Norway and Sweden.

:12:45.:12:52.

Which was the better shot, the double against Norway or the draw to

:12:53.:12:59.

beat the Swedes? I would definitely say the draw to be the Swedes in the

:13:00.:13:05.

semifinal, get that medal. To be Norway, you get the chance to play

:13:06.:13:11.

Sweden. We have had great shots throughout the week to put ourselves

:13:12.:13:16.

in that position. And Dave, do you remember those

:13:17.:13:23.

shots? Certainly be Norway one, this is do or die time, we got the call

:13:24.:13:30.

right, just hope we have got the angle is correct and we did. When

:13:31.:13:34.

you make a shot like that to go through to the semifinal, it is

:13:35.:13:38.

spectacular. You one of three men that has taken

:13:39.:13:42.

part in three games but for your rink here, this is the first time.

:13:43.:13:45.

When you think about what you have achieved, what has it done for you,

:13:46.:13:52.

increased the appetite for more? I think so. Right now we will enjoy

:13:53.:13:59.

the silver medal, take a bit of time-out, and going forward,

:14:00.:14:02.

certainly for myself I want to get back to the next Olympics and try

:14:03.:14:07.

and do something special there. How do you capitalise on what has

:14:08.:14:11.

been a fantastic time for curling, with a bronze for the women and the

:14:12.:14:14.

sulphur for the men's, what can curling do to make sure it is

:14:15.:14:19.

muscling in on the publicity? -- silver. A lot of rinks get people

:14:20.:14:26.

through the door, there is a big uptake in people wanting to try it,

:14:27.:14:30.

it is about capitalising on that I'm holding onto these people, getting

:14:31.:14:37.

them to come back, it is difficult, because of the season. We are in

:14:38.:14:43.

February, a lot stop in April because it is September until April.

:14:44.:14:49.

You tend to lose them over the summer a little bit and come

:14:50.:14:52.

September people have forgotten about it and moved on. It is about

:14:53.:14:56.

capitalising on that, hopefully the governing body can come up with ways

:14:57.:15:03.

and attract them and keep the people coming. You will be able to say that

:15:04.:15:10.

your moment because you will receive your medals later. What will you

:15:11.:15:24.

cherish from this campaign? There are so many great memories. Just

:15:25.:15:28.

being here for the first day and taking everything in and seeing the

:15:29.:15:33.

apartment and being around all of these other affiliates and then,

:15:34.:15:39.

obviously, when in the semifinal and beating Norway. So many memories, we

:15:40.:15:45.

cannot pinpoint just one. How different is this? How much of a

:15:46.:15:52.

step up from the World Championship? It is massive, but we treat the sick

:15:53.:15:56.

any other major Championship. We have been in the world finals and in

:15:57.:16:01.

European medal matches but it is amazing to get away with that medal.

:16:02.:16:05.

We are talking about the homecoming and is not only when you get home to

:16:06.:16:11.

Aberdeen and Prestwick and sterling that you really will understand just

:16:12.:16:24.

what is happening at home. Right now, I am probably the most talked

:16:25.:16:29.

about person in Forfar. It is great to have the whole nation behind you

:16:30.:16:32.

and we should really think the nation for that support. It has been

:16:33.:16:37.

great, we have been on social media throughout and it has been

:16:38.:16:43.

brilliant. It has. And you certainly deserve those accolades. There was

:16:44.:16:49.

going to be you, Claire and Anna walking down the High Street in

:16:50.:16:52.

Lockerbie with Olympic medals. Can you give us some idea of what that

:16:53.:16:58.

will mean to your community? Incredible, for a small time like

:16:59.:17:03.

that, it is great news. And the bad news that was in that time, such a

:17:04.:17:07.

nice place and everybody has supported us. It was great to have

:17:08.:17:15.

that support. The place has a lot of fond memories for me, a lot of good

:17:16.:17:19.

people I will want to see and celebrate with. I am sure we shall

:17:20.:17:25.

all join in. Can I just say thank you for everything you have done for

:17:26.:17:31.

curling and Great Britain, it has been an absolute delight. Thank you

:17:32.:17:35.

very much. And well played. Enjoy your silver medal. We shall head up

:17:36.:17:41.

the mountain because we are back on the snow. We are going snowboarding.

:17:42.:17:48.

This is one of the 12 new events for the Olympic Games, the parallel

:17:49.:17:51.

slalom. The same as the parallel Giant Slalom but much tighter turns

:17:52.:17:57.

and a lot more gates. Ed and Tim can take us through that. Welcome to the

:17:58.:18:03.

Rosa could Extreme Park for the final day. A brand-new event.

:18:04.:18:08.

Conditions could not be better? It was raining yesterday. But the sun

:18:09.:18:14.

has come out and we have perfect visibility and all that moisture has

:18:15.:18:25.

frozen so it is absolutely no proof. We must look at the Swiss. They will

:18:26.:18:31.

be looking to double up. But there will be stiff competition. The

:18:32.:18:34.

Russian is the current world champion. And on home soil in such

:18:35.:18:42.

close proximity, she will be cheered home. Also the world, the Russian,

:18:43.:19:04.

he has a chance to become the first to get gold in two games. The

:19:05.:19:07.

Russians have had so much to cheer on. The red and the blue. The

:19:08.:19:16.

fastest combined over both. It will be Fast and Furious and any mistakes

:19:17.:19:20.

will be punished. This is snowboarding, the parallel slalom.

:19:21.:19:26.

No tricks or judges, just speed. This is another brand-new chapter

:19:27.:19:32.

four Olympic sport. We will join them live at the Extreme Park. We

:19:33.:19:38.

are trying to your places for the quarterfinals and we have got Tim

:19:39.:19:42.

and Edward and this could be another family affair? Gold in the Giant

:19:43.:19:50.

Slalom, and his wife getting bronze in her event. They are up for it

:19:51.:20:02.

again? She is in fine fettle. And lick wild, qualifying tomorrow --

:20:03.:20:06.

this morning, they have looked brilliant. -- Vic Wild. They will

:20:07.:20:15.

have to build a brand-new mantelpiece for all of those medals.

:20:16.:20:25.

Out of the gates. 49 Micro closest to the camera. -- 49 Micro.

:20:26.:20:54.

This course is just 380 metres long with a vertical drop of 80 metres

:20:55.:21:13.

and is this long, flat section in the middle. And when you see the

:21:14.:21:17.

riders coming over and you get that changing pitch, the temple also

:21:18.:21:21.

changes and you have to be on your game. But is where we have seen a

:21:22.:21:28.

lot of races won and lost. The number one seed. 75 Micro.

:21:29.:21:49.

Looking very smooth. Did you see that? The riders are using their

:21:50.:22:07.

boards like coiled springs. The diving into the turns on the nose

:22:08.:22:10.

and as they come through the turn, they start shifting weight onto the

:22:11.:22:19.

tail. And the accelerate so, six Micra.

:22:20.:22:31.

That is a very good showing. We have seen some very tight racing so far.

:22:32.:22:50.

It is incredibly stiff. Unlike all of the other freestyle disciplines,

:22:51.:22:54.

you cannot I these snowboards in the shops. They are custom made.

:22:55.:23:11.

Talking about those boards, you could not ride on these unless you

:23:12.:23:18.

are of this standard. They are just so stiff and unforgiving. We have

:23:19.:23:23.

talked about this, coming out of the start, it is very difficult to ride

:23:24.:23:28.

them until you get up to full speed. It is like a superbike. So effective

:23:29.:23:34.

in the parallel slalom. Neck and neck. There is a sense of holding

:23:35.:23:41.

nerve. Not letting the pressure get to you. In your peripheral vision,

:23:42.:23:47.

you can see your opposite number. And the desire to try to let it hang

:23:48.:23:56.

out. Ina Meschik, just taking it easy. And a maximum penalty time...

:23:57.:24:05.

That is 5% of the fastest qualifying time. If you come in half of the

:24:06.:24:11.

second behind, you will only have that deficit. And that gate, the

:24:12.:24:25.

second run, it will not open for 1.25 seconds, which can seem like an

:24:26.:24:33.

absolute lifetime. Back up to the top. Heat number seven. Selina Jorg.

:24:34.:24:47.

And Anke Karstens. The Germans will have done this so many times. Anke

:24:48.:24:55.

Karstens is a police officer. She just missed out in Vancouver. She

:24:56.:25:00.

will be desperate to rectify that. Straightaway. Selina Jorg, she is

:25:01.:25:05.

building up a bit of a lead. Anke Karstens, this is so close. It

:25:06.:25:24.

is like gamer image. Coming into the finish. Selina Jorg just takes it.

:25:25.:25:35.

There is so much for the Germans to cheer here. Looking at it, of those

:25:36.:25:46.

four riders, they are all on one side of the draw, so they will only

:25:47.:25:50.

be able to get one of them into the final. That is a shame. Yes. The

:25:51.:26:03.

second-fastest qualifier. 20 oh macro. Up against Natalia Soboleva.

:26:04.:26:19.

-- Ester Ledecka. They will force the nose into the gate. And they can

:26:20.:26:25.

spring out. That is a very good start from Natalia Soboleva. Ester

:26:26.:26:34.

Ledecka, hitting form. That is close at the moment. Nice and soft. Ester

:26:35.:26:47.

Ledecka just seemed to take care of that. And the tempo changes. She has

:26:48.:26:57.

got more speed. She has got it! Six hundredths of a second ahead. This

:26:58.:27:03.

crowd will be roaring when they go in for that second run. Both ladies

:27:04.:27:11.

just 18 years old. The rising stars of Alpine snowboarding. I must say,

:27:12.:27:18.

Ester Ledecka has been phenomenal this year. 15, 16, 17. That was in

:27:19.:27:31.

2012. In this winter season, she has moved up in the parallel slalom,

:27:32.:27:35.

second place. Giant Slalom, she is third in the world. That is very

:27:36.:27:43.

impressive. And the junior in. On paper, she looks to be one of the

:27:44.:27:55.

strongest. That was a masterclass. It is time for the men. Taking the

:27:56.:28:05.

first run. Some names to look out for. Three tenths of a second lead

:28:06.:28:14.

from Vic Wild. Absolutely phenomenal. You could not have

:28:15.:28:25.

described any more perfectly. He had lightning for breakfast! He has just

:28:26.:28:33.

looked absolutely phenomenal. His training partner was second placed

:28:34.:28:37.

qualifier. Whatever these boys are doing, they are doing it right. So,

:28:38.:28:45.

Vic Wild, out of the gate already. Bordering on embarrassing! It is

:28:46.:28:53.

surgical. He is so fast on his tail. You must give it to Michael Lambert,

:28:54.:28:59.

he is managing to sit with them. Beautiful transition. He was

:29:00.:29:08.

airborne. He just makes that look so easy. The biggest deficit between

:29:09.:29:16.

two riders when someone did not follow. Phenomenal from Vic Wild. He

:29:17.:29:22.

definitely has a second gold medal in his sights. I think he has

:29:23.:29:27.

sprinkled glass on his breakfast also! That was incredible, and we

:29:28.:29:34.

talk about the control of the edge and the board pressure. Just

:29:35.:29:39.

generating through the edge of that board. Just sitting down on the

:29:40.:29:48.

short side of those gates. Looking so relaxed and the confidence he is

:29:49.:29:52.

taking into each race, knowing he is winning this easily. We he has just

:29:53.:30:04.

seen his wife go down and beat one of the top seeds so he is extremely

:30:05.:30:15.

happy at the moment. Roland Fischnaller and Kaspar Flutsch. Both

:30:16.:30:26.

of these men looking very quick, Smith, fluid through the turns.

:30:27.:30:32.

Roland Fischnaller is very tall, but he is beautiful. You think he would

:30:33.:30:37.

be more suited to Parallel Giant Slalom but he gets down and it

:30:38.:30:45.

works. Kaspar Flutsch went wide and it really cost him.

:30:46.:30:53.

He has looked good, Roland Fischnaller. For the big guy he can

:30:54.:31:10.

whip his board around. His head and shoulders don't move outside the

:31:11.:31:17.

gates that much, he is centred and level, just swinging his legs out.

:31:18.:31:24.

Really nice technique. Not quite as surgical as Vic Wild. Very smooth,

:31:25.:31:31.

nonetheless. Patrick Bussler and Rok Marguc. I

:31:32.:31:46.

love those gloves he has got. He was looking really good in the Parallel

:31:47.:31:49.

Giant Slalom until he fell over. He has looked good here. There is a lot

:31:50.:31:57.

of pace from Patrick Bussler on the blue course. Onto this bottom pitch

:31:58.:32:09.

now. The little mistake fare from Marguc and he has let Bussler back

:32:10.:32:17.

in. That just goes to show, you can make any mistakes. If you make one

:32:18.:32:19.

mistake, you get punished. Everything looks better

:32:20.:32:39.

inflammation. -- slow motion. Trying to get as far forward as they can.

:32:40.:32:46.

Diving for the line. Benjamin Karl of Austria against Andreas

:32:47.:32:52.

Prommegger of Austria. They have just a strong showing in the men's

:32:53.:33:00.

as the Germans have in the women's. Benjamin Karl and training Parallel

:33:01.:33:03.

Giant Slalom champion. As we have seen with a German woman,

:33:04.:33:17.

pretty much a mirror image. Benjamin Karl just a little way back on the

:33:18.:33:29.

Redgate. A bit of a mistake from Benjamin Karl, Prommegger will

:33:30.:33:41.

capitalise on that. It is only one slip and as the course softens up we

:33:42.:33:48.

will see more and more mistakes. The groups will get deeper, difficult to

:33:49.:33:57.

keep your age. All that awaits them underneath is concrete ice. You will

:33:58.:34:04.

have slush and you will just bounce through the ice, not pleasant at

:34:05.:34:10.

all. Andreas Prommegger, he has had to ninth places here. Another

:34:11.:34:23.

Austrian, the old rivalry. Again Stefan Baumeister, the German.

:34:24.:34:36.

Lukas Mathies, so far steak results. -- some fantastic results. Good

:34:37.:34:54.

form. Really low in those terms. There is the tempo change. Beautiful

:34:55.:35:00.

technique as he comes into the finish.

:35:01.:35:09.

It barely looks like he broke a sweat. Such a short, intense course.

:35:10.:35:22.

While they'll be steering using their weight, by bending your knees

:35:23.:35:29.

together you can flex the snowboard. Rotating them out and pulling your

:35:30.:35:38.

knees together, you can arc the radius of the board to a much

:35:39.:35:44.

tighter circle. Even more so with these boards, because you have got

:35:45.:35:45.

ski boots on. Simon Schoch of Switzerland on the

:35:46.:35:58.

bread course. Aaron March of Italy on the blue course.

:35:59.:36:08.

He will not have his brother for company in these eliminations

:36:09.:36:19.

stages. He managed sometimes to say that. Incredible. How did he get

:36:20.:36:35.

back up? That was ridiculous. Just took a little power nap of way down.

:36:36.:36:41.

He drove out of the turn so hard he got airborne. Then he lay down on

:36:42.:36:47.

his stomach, engaged his edge and stood back up again. Too much in the

:36:48.:36:54.

back-seat, didn't go forward. It shows how stiff those boards.

:36:55.:37:00.

Somehow he got back around that gate. Simon Schoch, who announced he

:37:01.:37:09.

will retire after the event to date, he will struggle to get back

:37:10.:37:14.

in that race, incredible save, regardless.

:37:15.:37:24.

The man who leads the World Cup standings at the moment in the blue

:37:25.:37:30.

course. Impressive start for both of them. The only Frenchman in this

:37:31.:37:46.

elimination round. Nevin Galmarini, he looks like he is working a bit

:37:47.:37:55.

harder. He is actually quite slight. He is out, Mr gate, disqualification

:37:56.:38:06.

for him. -- he has missed a gate. He will take the full penalty time.

:38:07.:38:31.

Nevin Galmarini, he has got one foot in the quarterfinals. Just a toe

:38:32.:38:41.

left dangling. Second place qualifier, Zan Kosir, training

:38:42.:38:46.

partner of Vic Wild, up against Jasey-Jay Anderson. Snowboarding has

:38:47.:38:54.

been in the Olympics for five and a big cycles and he has been in all of

:38:55.:39:04.

them. -- five Olympic cycles. Look at the speed and technique of the

:39:05.:39:06.

Janklow say. -- Yann Kosir. He is back in, risking it. He came

:39:07.:39:27.

right back into that and pushed him hard.

:39:28.:39:40.

It is a little and just for Jasey-Jay Anderson. Having a little

:39:41.:39:46.

fun as they arrived in the finish area. I was saying about Jasey-Jay

:39:47.:39:59.

Anderson, you can see your man pulling away, you just want to let

:40:00.:40:03.

loose on the turns, carry some speed. It snowballs, almost. You get

:40:04.:40:14.

a bit faster, everything starts to dangle out a little bit more and

:40:15.:40:17.

before you know it you make a mistake. To keep your head and think

:40:18.:40:25.

I am not going to open it up. He did it well. Did any of that make sense?

:40:26.:40:41.

We are back to the women now. If Katarina Witt

:40:42.:40:52.

Look at that. She has it all to do now. She has got nothing to lose.

:40:53.:41:27.

She has gone. Marion Kreiner just taking her time. I am not sure if

:41:28.:41:35.

she missed a gate. Heartbreak for the Russian.

:41:36.:41:40.

Marion Kreiner will advance. The bronze medallist from Vancouver, in

:41:41.:41:47.

Parallel Giant Slalom, makes it through to the quarterfinals. The

:41:48.:41:50.

only remaining medallist from Vancouver who is still in this

:41:51.:41:56.

contest. Parallel Slalom is a new event for snowboarding at the games.

:41:57.:42:02.

It is almost exactly the same field as we see for Parallel Giant Slalom.

:42:03.:42:08.

Quite easy to cross over. Slightly different technique. You need to be

:42:09.:42:14.

far more precise with your terms. Less margin for error. The course is

:42:15.:42:19.

so much shorter you have got to be perfect, consistent all the way

:42:20.:42:23.

down. A bit like squash and racquetball.

:42:24.:42:33.

Claudia Riegler, seventh in Vancouver. She has got 100th of a

:42:34.:42:44.

second to make up. Karina Boccacini of Italy. She is fired up, the

:42:45.:42:52.

Italian. She has got so much internal rage she can channel. She

:42:53.:42:59.

is like a caged animal. Claudia Riegler, lovely technique. They are

:43:00.:43:05.

like a metronome at the moment, total symmetry. I am impressed with

:43:06.:43:16.

Boccacini. Claudia Riegler, heartbreak. For a 40-year-old,

:43:17.:43:20.

really wanted a little bit more success for her. I am sure she will

:43:21.:43:24.

be very proud to have made it through to the eighth finals.

:43:25.:43:31.

Disappointment she made it a bit further. She maybe would have hoped

:43:32.:43:39.

to be battling it out for a medal, maybe. It is a shame. Karina

:43:40.:43:51.

Boccacini, she walks away with that one. I don't know what happened

:43:52.:44:07.

there, washed out on the ice. Either way she has gone down, it is

:44:08.:44:08.

heartbreak for her. Back to the top. Alena Zavarzina,

:44:09.:44:33.

only three weeks of a broken arm. Up against Julia Dujmovits. A great

:44:34.:44:49.

start from the Austrian. She is in the lead, just slightly. Alena

:44:50.:44:58.

Zavarzina is under pressure. They come onto the final section. Careful

:44:59.:45:06.

with the mistakes. Whoever crosses the line first will go through. It

:45:07.:45:12.

is the Austrian. The husband and wife team will not get to repeat

:45:13.:45:18.

their medal winning performance from the Parallel Giant Slalom. That is a

:45:19.:45:34.

shame. You have to say, the best lady was the winner. I would have

:45:35.:45:39.

the same level of disbelief if I saw them do this twice, the first man

:45:40.:45:46.

who find the duck billed platypus must have felt that way! That is not

:45:47.:45:58.

real! So... The Russian who took bronze in the Giant Slalom loses out

:45:59.:46:05.

to Julia Dujmovits. I always think of the first man to climb onto the

:46:06.:46:08.

back of a wild horse! He was a brave man. Almost as brave as these.

:46:09.:46:20.

Taking on this icy course. Tomoka Takeuchi. Silver medallist in the

:46:21.:46:26.

Giant Slalom. Looking to take on Julie Zogg. From Switzerland. Tomoka

:46:27.:46:34.

Takeuchi is the first Japanese female medallist in snowboarding.

:46:35.:46:43.

She is on the blue course. And she is pulling away quite comfortably at

:46:44.:46:50.

the moment. Julie Zogg on the blue course, actually. That little

:46:51.:46:56.

mistake! That has let Tomoka Takeuchi in! Julie Zogg managing to

:46:57.:47:04.

just hold her nerve. Tomoka Takeuchi must have seen she made that mistake

:47:05.:47:08.

but she instantly did the same thing. It gets to that point of this

:47:09.:47:14.

course because you come over that and the tempo changes and you settle

:47:15.:47:18.

into that tempo and you think, because it slows down, you think, I

:47:19.:47:23.

am going to slow. And you speed up again. And discipline goes out the

:47:24.:47:28.

window and use bid up and on this lower part of the course, you just

:47:29.:47:32.

need to keep that tempo slower because this is where mistakes have

:47:33.:47:36.

been made. Those gates suddenly widen up. Your buildings so much

:47:37.:47:44.

speed and you must slow things down. So, disappointment for Tomoka

:47:45.:47:51.

Takeuchi, but she will go home with a silver medal. She is OK. She wants

:47:52.:48:04.

another gold medal. But she has a deficit. Against the German, Amelie

:48:05.:48:19.

Kober. Patrizia Kummer, early on on this course... The German is going

:48:20.:48:27.

very well. However, just going wide, there. This is neck and neck. They

:48:28.:48:38.

can see each other perfectly. I think Amelie Kober has got this.

:48:39.:48:45.

Yes! She has got it. One tenth of a second separating them. It is not to

:48:46.:48:55.

be for Patrizia Kummer, she was on the hunt for her record second gold

:48:56.:49:03.

medal. By one woman in one Olympic Games. No woman has ever done this

:49:04.:49:09.

in snowboarding before. Amelie Kober did what many people thought could

:49:10.:49:12.

not be done and she took time the Swiss maestro. The current world

:49:13.:49:20.

tour leader as well. That was so close! Amelie Kober has been looking

:49:21.:49:28.

very good. If she can keep that going... She got a silver medal in

:49:29.:49:35.

Jordan. A couple of good performances. Especially with those

:49:36.:49:45.

parallel performances. Back to the top. The Austrian, Ina Meschik. Up

:49:46.:49:56.

against Isabella Labock. Isabella Labock will take the maximum

:49:57.:50:02.

penalty. This will seem like forever! The world will be going in

:50:03.:50:10.

slow motion. She has got that advantage. And Ina Meschik will know

:50:11.:50:17.

that she cannot take your foot off the gas but she might be able to

:50:18.:50:23.

look in her her a few times. -- murder. -- mirror. She is looking

:50:24.:50:36.

very good. Ina Meschik. Well, she is catching up. It will be very tight!

:50:37.:50:45.

That was so unlucky! She made up one second on that run. If it was not

:50:46.:50:54.

for that mistake on the first run, I think we would have a very different

:50:55.:51:00.

outcome. As it stands, well... You have talked about this, it is much

:51:01.:51:04.

easier to chase someone than to hold them back. When you have a target in

:51:05.:51:09.

front of you, you have got something to aim for. Ina Meschik, Olympian

:51:10.:51:22.

twice. Sixth place in Vancouver. Very strong moving forward. Back to

:51:23.:51:31.

the top. Heat number seven. All-German. Anke Karstens. Against

:51:32.:51:42.

Selina Jorg. Some shouting. Firing up. Selina Jorg, really good,

:51:43.:51:54.

competing at a national level. Nothing in that. Selina Jorg, on the

:51:55.:52:02.

blue course. Just in the lead, probably. That was a lovely couple

:52:03.:52:09.

of turns from Anke Karstens. She has gone into the lead. That is a very

:52:10.:52:17.

good technique and Selina Jorg is under pressure. Straightening up.

:52:18.:52:30.

Two hundredths! You can hear just how much that means to Anke

:52:31.:52:39.

Karstens. Oh my goodness! She sounds like she has just fined ?20 in her

:52:40.:52:52.

pocket! -- find. -- found. She has not gone over to consult team-mate.

:52:53.:53:00.

Well, it is the Olympics! This is the one that you do want to win. You

:53:01.:53:04.

can see the discolouration of that snow, cutting through that. This

:53:05.:53:15.

will be so tired. Look at this! You have to say, with that little bit

:53:16.:53:20.

between them, I think that Selina Jorg was leaning back too far. I

:53:21.:53:33.

think Selina Jorg preloaded to just spring out. And she just could not

:53:34.:53:37.

get former. She was always in the back seat. She could not get any

:53:38.:53:45.

more forward. I would do the Peter Pan! Just died for it. Ester

:53:46.:53:55.

Ledecka. And Natalia Soboleva. They have shown so much form. Can Natalia

:53:56.:54:10.

Soboleva get back into this? They have turned up the volume. And she

:54:11.:54:15.

has responded. They drop into that finish. There was a little bit of a

:54:16.:54:20.

wash from Natalia Soboleva. Scrubbing of some speed. That will

:54:21.:54:25.

set up nicely. She just needs to settle down. You can hear the crowd.

:54:26.:54:34.

They are going crazy! It has just gone for Ester Ledecka. She has had

:54:35.:54:40.

so many good results this year. She has been building. And then first

:54:41.:54:49.

twice coming into this event. So, Ester Ledecka wins that battle. And

:54:50.:54:56.

there are only three more left between her and a gold medal. I

:54:57.:55:08.

think that Natalia Soboleva was too cautious at the top. It was

:55:09.:55:15.

literally those last two. That was all it was.

:55:16.:55:26.

Disappointment for Natalia Soboleva. Ester Ledecka. Taking her breath.

:55:27.:55:39.

That was pure disappointment that we were witnessing before. But it was

:55:40.:55:59.

really. So, Marion Kreiner. Anke Karstens will face Ester Ledecka.

:56:00.:56:03.

The quarterfinals coming up after the men's event. They have got the

:56:04.:56:09.

second run. The first eight men to be eliminated. Another good crowd.

:56:10.:56:23.

The last day of place will see. And confirmation of the quarterfinals.

:56:24.:56:32.

This has been a great venue at the Extreme Park. We have had the

:56:33.:56:38.

parallel slalom today. And the Giant Slalom as well. Slopestyle.

:56:39.:56:48.

Halfpipe. Skiing and snowboarding. It has been pretty epic, to say the

:56:49.:57:01.

least. What should happen here is Vic Wild should actually give

:57:02.:57:12.

Michael Lambert a head start! It is just demoralising. Anything can

:57:13.:57:18.

happen. This will be his biggest competitor, himself. He just has to

:57:19.:57:25.

take stock and relax and ride like he knows he can. And on this form,

:57:26.:57:31.

Vic Wild will be in the final. That is the first sporting cliche I have

:57:32.:57:37.

heard you use! His biggest enemy will be himself! Look at that. An

:57:38.:57:48.

absolute masterclass again. They have got a television at the start

:57:49.:57:51.

gate and a lot of men will wonder how on earth they can beat Vic Wild.

:57:52.:57:59.

The only man with a decent idea is as trainer. When they meet, it will

:58:00.:58:23.

be like Rocky and Apollo Creed. How good is the end of Rocky II? Vic

:58:24.:58:33.

Wild, the American who defected to Russia. Because the Alpine snowboard

:58:34.:58:38.

programme is not good enough in America. He married for citizenship.

:58:39.:58:46.

And he is competing in Sochi. He already has one gold medal. But most

:58:47.:58:52.

smart for the Americans. When you consider the wrist not one American

:58:53.:59:02.

in the elimination coming here. So, Kaspar Flutsch. Roland Fischnaller.

:59:03.:59:16.

He is coming down this course like a piece of string moving from side to

:59:17.:59:20.

side. Really nice style. Sitting on his back leg. Through some of those

:59:21.:59:29.

turns. And Kaspar Flutsch might just get this? Only just got that! When

:59:30.:59:35.

you consider that Kaspar Flutsch started behind. That was a

:59:36.:59:43.

phenomenal performance by him. But 102 macro... The Swiss have got a

:59:44.:59:54.

very good programme in place. -- Roland Fischnaller. This will be his

:59:55.:00:04.

best Olympic performance today. 13, 18 and 19, dating back to Salt Lake

:00:05.:00:10.

City. His Olympic dream is still alive at the moment. Roland

:00:11.:00:23.

Fischnaller, he is a baby at only 32. Especially with advances in

:00:24.:00:36.

medical science! David and Goliath! So, 100 and Aaron March. -- Rok

:00:37.:00:47.

Marguc. That gate will open sewer. He knows what he has to do. Ash

:00:48.:00:52.

macro slower. That was a very good start. Nothing between them. Rok

:00:53.:01:02.

Marguc, his arms are down by his ankles. He looks like a monkey

:01:03.:01:06.

swinging through trees. He is just so in control! Can you believe that?

:01:07.:01:13.

He is back up and he has managed to keep his speed. He will just

:01:14.:01:17.

hope... He is really clipping those gates. He looks over his shoulder

:01:18.:01:34.

and celebrates the win. It is the pitch change, not just the timing of

:01:35.:01:44.

the gates, that catches people out. They are not looking at the gate

:01:45.:01:50.

they are about to write, they have already committed to it, so when

:01:51.:01:56.

they are at the apex, they do react and they have two reactor, however

:01:57.:02:01.

they have already set their turn so they'll already thinking about the

:02:02.:02:05.

next gate. Any changes in the slow condition or the ice knocks them off

:02:06.:02:08.

kilter. Patrick Bussler is another one who

:02:09.:02:18.

is shining here. He hasn't made it past a round of 16 before. At the

:02:19.:02:26.

Olympics, at least. He had shocking World Championships. Benny Karl and

:02:27.:02:36.

Andreas Prommegger. Benny Karl, feels like he has been around for

:02:37.:02:40.

ages, probably the most high profile of all the Alpine snowboarders. One

:02:41.:02:49.

of the guys who made it cool within free cell snowboarding -- freestyle.

:02:50.:02:58.

Put him on an Alpine board and he can do this. Benny Karl on that blue

:02:59.:03:05.

course has made about deficit, they are neck and neck. This turn is

:03:06.:03:09.

crucial. Prommegger made a mistake or stop it has cost him. He just

:03:10.:03:18.

didn't get off that edge. That turn is so crucial, the last proper turn

:03:19.:03:21.

on the course, the third gate from the finish line, the last one where

:03:22.:03:27.

you need to be 100%. The last two you can get through, but that one is

:03:28.:03:30.

crucial. Prommegger made the mistake. He is out.

:03:31.:03:38.

It was too close to call until that point. That was it there. That

:03:39.:03:50.

wasn't it. That was a mistake, though, there. Too much pressure on

:03:51.:03:57.

his edge, board go sideways. It has cost him. He will be livid.

:03:58.:04:05.

Prommegger and Benny Karl. Benny Karl on the right-hand side in that

:04:06.:04:12.

incredible chrome helmet. Benny Karl will go through. At the expense of

:04:13.:04:17.

Andreas Prommegger. Lukas Mathies fees against Stefan

:04:18.:04:23.

Baumeister. Baumeister looking very fluid on

:04:24.:04:46.

this red course. They are hard on the edge. He loses a lot of speed.

:04:47.:04:52.

Now he has got to chase. He has got to Brescia. -- push here. Lukas

:04:53.:05:03.

Mathies, just the easiest thing he has done. Crosses the line, job

:05:04.:05:10.

done. The Austrians still have lots to cheer about. They have got Benny

:05:11.:05:17.

Karl and Lucas Mathews through. -- Lukas Mathies.

:05:18.:05:32.

We don't get a second count, we cannot see what the times are on the

:05:33.:05:47.

runs. Interesting to see if anybody has been pushed past their

:05:48.:05:58.

qualifying time. A simple event format. Whoever crosses the line

:05:59.:06:03.

first on the second run, wins. He is relying on a mistake from

:06:04.:06:34.

Aaron March. March, just like Roland Fischnaller. The Italians have

:06:35.:06:42.

obviously got a very good Alpine programme in place. Just want to

:06:43.:06:59.

hire. -- too hard. He went through that gate, didn't go around it, he

:07:00.:07:07.

would have been disqualified. Disappointment for Simon Schoch,

:07:08.:07:16.

both him and his brother, they are both out. No silverware in the

:07:17.:07:22.

parallel giant slalom. Aaron March from Italy moves through. He will

:07:23.:07:27.

make the top eight. Sylvain Dufour taking the maximum

:07:28.:07:44.

penalty time. Galmarini out first. Sylvain Dufour

:07:45.:08:09.

is the current leader in the World Cup standings, racing through,

:08:10.:08:12.

desperate to try and rein in Galmarini. Oh, no! Sylvain Dufour

:08:13.:08:34.

has gone again. He really was going ever so good. He has overcooked

:08:35.:08:40.

that. He had to. He needed to leave it all out there, you are not going

:08:41.:08:44.

to catch up with somebody unless you are flat out. There was always the

:08:45.:08:54.

chance you will blow up. Get a good putt on the back from Sylvain

:08:55.:08:55.

Dufour. -- pat on the back. Nevin Galmarini of Switzerland

:08:56.:09:31.

advances to the quarterfinals. In our last of these finals Jasey-Jay

:09:32.:09:37.

Anderson has to make up 0.32 against Zan Kosir. Jasey-Jay Anderson, the

:09:38.:09:44.

most experienced Olympic snowboarder in the world. We saw him make up a

:09:45.:09:51.

deficit in the first run, anyway, in order to get back. He stayed with

:09:52.:09:58.

him so well. He has done really well in the top section. Zan Kosir has

:09:59.:10:08.

kept that advantage. If Anderson keeps the pressure on, will he

:10:09.:10:13.

crack? He can hear him right behind him. He will be getting glimpses of

:10:14.:10:24.

him. He stays on his feet. He lost a little bit. Zan Kosir held his

:10:25.:10:27.

nerve. Zan Kosir, this script is chasing up

:10:28.:10:44.

nicely. He will be a sparring partner's master and apprentice. Zan

:10:45.:10:53.

Kosir and Vic Wild train together. Jasey-Jay Anderson, Gold medallist

:10:54.:10:59.

in Vancouver, and parallel giant slalom. Retired to go and make

:11:00.:11:09.

snowboards. Decided he didn't like that quite as much is racing so came

:11:10.:11:14.

back. Jasey-Jay Anderson, a great ambassador for snowboarding. An

:11:15.:11:23.

incredible competitor. HAZEL IRVINE: We will be back in a

:11:24.:11:30.

few moments. I bring you news that Lizzy Yarnold has been selected to

:11:31.:11:34.

carry the flag for Great Britain at the closing ceremony tomorrow night.

:11:35.:11:39.

It is well-deserved. As we look back on the scenes from just over a week

:11:40.:11:43.

ago, this has been a life changing fortnight for her. She became Great

:11:44.:11:48.

Britain's 10th winter gold medallist with that dominant performance in

:11:49.:11:52.

the skeleton, so look out for her and the British team from 4pm

:11:53.:11:58.

tomorrow afternoon at the start of the closing ceremony. I have been

:11:59.:12:01.

looking through some of the briefing rates they have given us ahead of

:12:02.:12:07.

the ceremony -- briefing notes, it looks a very entertaining programme.

:12:08.:12:13.

It comes highly recommended. I am sure all the athletes will enjoy it.

:12:14.:12:17.

We will go straight back to the snowboarding, the first time we have

:12:18.:12:21.

seen the slalom in the Olympics for snowboarding. It is very enjoyable

:12:22.:12:26.

but this course is rotting up a fair bit. And we have got all the

:12:27.:12:33.

remaining races to come on the same course.

:12:34.:12:38.

COMMENTATOR: The temperature is almost nine degrees. It is getting

:12:39.:12:42.

very slushy. Not easy. Underneath that slush is rock hard ice. They

:12:43.:12:49.

are struggling with the conditions. Right now we have Corinna Boccacini

:12:50.:12:55.

of Italy up against Marion Kreiner of Austria. The first of the women's

:12:56.:13:00.

quarterfinals, the first run. They have one run on each side of the

:13:01.:13:07.

course. Marion Kreiner on the red gate looking tidy. Boccacini, she

:13:08.:13:16.

has been an absolute beast. Boccacini has been gifted it here.

:13:17.:13:20.

Marion Kreiner is out and all she has got to do is stay on her feet.

:13:21.:13:28.

Good racing from the Italian. Marion Kreiner making the mistake. She will

:13:29.:13:34.

take the full 5% penalty time for the second run. Just to go back to

:13:35.:13:42.

the conditions, you were talking about how ratty it is getting,

:13:43.:13:48.

slushy, they are on the best equipment for the ice. You cannot

:13:49.:13:57.

get sharper edges. Just pick the right and watched the ball for the

:13:58.:14:01.

entire race. To see the boards, and what it does and the way it flexes,

:14:02.:14:07.

it is quite amazing. Well worth having a look.

:14:08.:14:14.

You will be able to see the riders preloading the boards, almost like a

:14:15.:14:20.

giant bow, and they use that to fire themselves out of every ten. They

:14:21.:14:22.

are so unforgiving. Classic Alpine battle. Ancient

:14:23.:14:45.

enemies in downhill skiing. Not that different in snowboarding, either.

:14:46.:14:52.

Very close. Julia Dujmovits is going very nicely. But there is nothing

:14:53.:15:00.

between them. Regular riders. For the first time, Julia Dujmovits is

:15:01.:15:09.

slightly out in front. And Julia Dujmovits went wide! Look at that.

:15:10.:15:16.

One tenth of a second. So, Julie Zogg just losing out. Well, Julie

:15:17.:15:26.

Zogg made one or two mistakes but she was still able to keep within

:15:27.:15:32.

touching distance. I really like that Swiss rider, she has got such a

:15:33.:15:41.

fluid style and she is just good. You can see Julia Dujmovits bouncing

:15:42.:15:53.

around. Just getting across first. That will be a very good match. If

:15:54.:15:58.

you are looking at those bindings, they are called plate bindings. They

:15:59.:16:05.

clip on just like ski boots. Underneath you can have that angled.

:16:06.:16:17.

And they do not release like ski bindings. Ina Meschik up against

:16:18.:16:27.

Amelie Kober, the woman who to guide the gold medallist, Patrizia Kummer.

:16:28.:16:31.

And she is a favourite after qualifying in first place. I would

:16:32.:16:34.

say that Amelie Kober is the woman with the target on her back. She has

:16:35.:16:40.

looked really good and heroes well. Closest to the camera. -- here is --

:16:41.:16:50.

here as well. You can see her body is really low. I would not be

:16:51.:16:54.

surprised if property developers started getting in touch after

:16:55.:17:00.

seeing the speed they can dig trenches in! Putting so much

:17:01.:17:06.

pressure through those boards. Driving through those turns. So,

:17:07.:17:12.

Amelie Kober going in front in this first run. And Ina Meschik will

:17:13.:17:20.

start 19 hundredths of a second behind. Her gate will not open for

:17:21.:17:30.

that time. But that does mean whoever crosses first in the second

:17:31.:17:34.

run will go through to the next round. That is the simple way to

:17:35.:17:42.

remember it. That third to last turn is so crucial. She was really loose.

:17:43.:17:50.

So, Ina Meschik, still in good spirits. She has a bit of work to

:17:51.:17:59.

do. Next up. The policewoman from Germany, Anke Karstens. Against the

:18:00.:18:06.

18-year-old who has been in Saint leading form, Ester Ledecka. So,

:18:07.:18:19.

they are on the course. Ester Ledecka in blue. She has already

:18:20.:18:32.

taken only Russian. Anke Karstens is just dropping behind Ester Ledecka.

:18:33.:18:39.

Managing to scrape a little bit of a lead. And Anke Karstens will know

:18:40.:18:42.

that and we'll desperately tried to undercut that. -- we'll desperately.

:18:43.:18:50.

Nothing in that again. 15 hundredths of a second. As you can see, it is

:18:51.:18:57.

very easy, even with some of those very good riders, to reel in

:18:58.:19:05.

hundredths of a second. That is what it is worth, that chasing syndrome.

:19:06.:19:09.

You can see someone in front of you, that will give you that time over

:19:10.:19:17.

the whole course. But one mistake... It is like the old arcade game.

:19:18.:19:27.

Outrun. The car behind you was always faster. And if you are

:19:28.:19:32.

behind, you will somehow managed to find more speed. From somewhere.

:19:33.:19:40.

That is magic. Really nothing between them. That is quite amazing,

:19:41.:19:47.

considering 28 gates. 350 metres of course. We can go back to the start

:19:48.:20:14.

for the first run of the men. The graphics come onto the big screen

:20:15.:20:19.

and the crowd is just roaring for Vic Wild. Coming down on the red

:20:20.:20:25.

course. He will be able to hear them, every single one of them. But

:20:26.:20:29.

will really fire him up. And you must really feel for Roland

:20:30.:20:34.

Fischnaller, he has an absolute mountain to climb. The boy from

:20:35.:20:39.

Washington State who lives in Moscow. Powering. Look at that

:20:40.:20:52.

distance. It must be his wax? Maybe. Look at the way he has just killed

:20:53.:20:55.

his speed coming onto this final part. Throwing himself! Get off the

:20:56.:21:06.

course! That was a very reliable, well upheld protest, there. If

:21:07.:21:10.

anything had gone wrong, the man in the yellow coat... Especially doing

:21:11.:21:19.

that to a Russian on home soil! He would be shipped off to another

:21:20.:21:23.

country. If he was from Georgia, there would be triple.

:21:24.:21:30.

-- there would be problems. He is making that look so easy! That is so

:21:31.:21:41.

difficult. Onto the nose, reloading and then shifting his weight onto

:21:42.:21:47.

the tail. Just like pressing the accelerator and springing out of

:21:48.:21:51.

upturn. If he put his nose down first, then the edging shifts all of

:21:52.:21:58.

his weight onto his back leg. Immaculate technique. He is looking

:21:59.:22:05.

good. Well. Roland Fischnaller is lapping this up because he knows it

:22:06.:22:10.

will all be over when they raced down this course in about 30

:22:11.:22:17.

seconds. Next up... Patrick Bussler against Benjamin Karl.

:22:18.:22:25.

Benjamin Karl on the blue course. And Patrick Bussler with the gloves.

:22:26.:22:40.

Benjamin Karl is one of the elder statesman and one of the bigger

:22:41.:22:45.

winning alpine snowboard is out there. Lovely technique. We get the

:22:46.:22:51.

impression that 18 macro... Just as I said that, he danced over that.

:22:52.:22:59.

Patrick Bussler has been looking good in the parallel Giant Slalom.

:23:00.:23:04.

This will be very close. Patrick Bussler. Nine hundredths of a second

:23:05.:23:15.

behind Benjamin Karl. Patrick Bussler doing some very nice work. I

:23:16.:23:22.

watched Benjamin Karl very well and he got some very good lines through

:23:23.:23:27.

that end section. But Patrick Bussler was just very tidy. Properly

:23:28.:23:36.

ripping that. Looking out of the window at just help busy the

:23:37.:23:46.

technicians are, these ruts are really starting to build up. You can

:23:47.:23:51.

see that discolouration in the snow. It has been browned off. Perhaps

:23:52.:23:58.

there is some dust. You can see these white marks glaring through.

:23:59.:24:08.

The quarterfinals. Heat number three. Lukas Mathies. And Aaron

:24:09.:24:25.

March. The Italians have a very good showing in these semifinals.

:24:26.:24:32.

Quarterfinals, excuse me. Will they have a very good showing in the

:24:33.:24:38.

semifinals? Well... At the moment, Aaron March is doing his part. On

:24:39.:24:45.

the blue course. Lukas Mathies is one of the top performers.

:24:46.:24:50.

Desperately trying to stay in contact with Aaron March. Struggling

:24:51.:24:54.

to get onto his heels. He was caught. His body was twisted and

:24:55.:25:01.

that has cost him. Lukas Mathies, half of the second to make up. Let's

:25:02.:25:11.

have another look at that. That is what cost him. He came out of the

:25:12.:25:16.

corner with his shoulders twisting in the wrong direction and his legs

:25:17.:25:21.

did not want to follow. Pretty funny with Aaron March, he took the term

:25:22.:25:29.

road to Sochi quite literally and recycled from Italy all the to

:25:30.:25:35.

Russia. He did that for the test event last. Not this year! He left

:25:36.:25:41.

one week before! Breathless! I am here! OK, take a breath. Here we go.

:25:42.:25:54.

Nevin Galmarini. Up against Zan Kosir. Whether he has two take --

:25:55.:26:04.

has what it takes to overhaul Zan Kosir. His training partner is Vic

:26:05.:26:11.

Wild, the fastest man on this mountain. At the moment, that looks

:26:12.:26:18.

like it shall be confirmed by an Olympic gold-medal. But Nevin

:26:19.:26:22.

Galmarini is struggling at the moment. Zan Kosir is clinical. That

:26:23.:26:33.

is beautiful, just watching him. He is so clinical. I would let him

:26:34.:26:42.

perform a face-lift on the! -- me. He will take that penalty. Zan Kosir

:26:43.:26:50.

was looking so fluid. By the getting close to what Vic Wild is doing? The

:26:51.:26:59.

dream final at the moment would be Zan Kosir and Vic Wild. They are

:27:00.:27:06.

both making it look just so easy. Well, they have got the easiest

:27:07.:27:10.

route. Ploughing through the lower seeds. The semifinals, it will start

:27:11.:27:17.

to see a little bit of competition. There will be a challenge. There we

:27:18.:27:22.

go, Nevin Galmarini losing it from the end. But 100 and 34 macro... The

:27:23.:27:30.

Slovenian holding up his finger to say, one more race! -- Dimi de Jong.

:27:31.:27:42.

No, he said, I am number one! So, that was the first run of the

:27:43.:27:48.

quarterfinals. We are into the second run for the women. No letup

:27:49.:27:58.

in the action here the Extreme Park. It is absolutely relentless. It just

:27:59.:28:04.

keeps going. I'm sad to say that strictly is not true. This is the

:28:05.:28:10.

final event. The debut of this event at the other pics. This will mark

:28:11.:28:14.

the end of the snowboarding competitions at these games. And the

:28:15.:28:19.

last event at the Extreme Park. So... Everyone is very keen to walk

:28:20.:28:31.

away with some heavy metal. Marion Kreiner and Corinna Boccacini.

:28:32.:28:40.

Corinna Boccacini can someone aggression can she? Marion Kreiner,

:28:41.:28:46.

34 years old. With that maximum deficit. But she is reeling in

:28:47.:28:53.

Corinna Boccacini. It is that chasing syndrome we have been

:28:54.:28:56.

talking about. You can find that speed. This will really put the

:28:57.:29:02.

pressure on. Corinna Boccacini is regular, she can see Marion Kreiner.

:29:03.:29:07.

Marion Kreiner will not know if she is level? But that was a phenomenal

:29:08.:29:16.

performance! Is that enough? No! The Italian does it! She was in the

:29:17.:29:19.

lead. But somehow, look at the way... Judging by her aggression, I

:29:20.:29:26.

would not have liked to be Corinna Boccacini! She is a monster! I want

:29:27.:29:32.

to see her in the final. She is really looking good. Whatever she

:29:33.:29:38.

lacks in technique, she makes up for in brute force and aggression.

:29:39.:29:46.

Well, it works and that is what it is all about. It does not matter how

:29:47.:29:50.

would looks, it is all about getting across that line. You just realise

:29:51.:29:56.

how much work Marion Kreiner did. What a performance! She was almost

:29:57.:30:08.

ahead. That was so close! Ridiculously close! Considering she

:30:09.:30:17.

was 1.25 seconds behind. Corinna Boccacini. She has got a nice little

:30:18.:30:26.

smile on her face. She turns it on for the race and then sweet as apple

:30:27.:30:30.

pie once it is all over. That means we have lost the last of our

:30:31.:30:35.

reigning Olympic medallists. Marion Kreiner. Bronze in Vancouver.

:30:36.:30:53.

She has got a bit of work to do. She lost it right at the start. What a

:30:54.:31:00.

shame. We have been talking about preloading the board, getting the

:31:01.:31:04.

energy from the board, she has just had a dose of weak legs, she has

:31:05.:31:11.

stood up and it has put her on to the back tale. When legs are tired

:31:12.:31:14.

it is very easy to do that in snowboarding. Julia Dujmovits hasn't

:31:15.:31:21.

taken her foot of the gas. Julia Dujmovits, the Austrian, will

:31:22.:31:49.

advance to the semifinals. Look at the legs here. Like a much energy,

:31:50.:31:54.

you have just got to have your legs turned on. When we start to get into

:31:55.:32:01.

the business end your legs get tired. These boards will snap back.

:32:02.:32:21.

Ina Meschik against Amelie Kober. Ina Meschik finds herself in the

:32:22.:32:27.

unenviable position of having to chase Amelie Kober done this course.

:32:28.:32:37.

Ina Meschik on the red gate 's closest to us. Rather than trying to

:32:38.:32:47.

ride through those ruts, they are taking a slightly wider line, that

:32:48.:32:53.

is enabling them to carve the board. You can keep that key speed up. I

:32:54.:33:01.

think Ina Meschik is slightly in the lead. Too much on that last day. She

:33:02.:33:12.

went to wide on the third to last gate, it is so important. We have

:33:13.:33:18.

already seen mistakes made there. She went to white-collar -- she went

:33:19.:33:29.

to wide, carrying too much speed. It is an intense 30 seconds of pure

:33:30.:33:37.

snowboarding. Pure power. We talk about how difficult the snowboards

:33:38.:33:41.

are to ride. They need so much energy powering into them.

:33:42.:33:49.

Exactly the same, this is a Formula One of snowboarding. These boards

:33:50.:33:54.

are just as hard to control and push properly as a Formula One car is to

:33:55.:34:02.

drive. I don't know, I think I could write one of these better. I don't

:34:03.:34:05.

think I could drive a Formula One car. They don't even work until you

:34:06.:34:16.

get them up to about 90. Go and give it a test. I think the world speed

:34:17.:34:33.

record on a snowboard is a snowboard is 112 mph. Anke Karstens up against

:34:34.:34:46.

Ester Ledecka. Ester Ledecka has looked very fluid, elegant. Anke

:34:47.:34:56.

Karstens using that frame perfectly. Ester Ledecka just clipping one of

:34:57.:35:03.

the gates. It is a deceiving angle. Whoever is on the blue course, it

:35:04.:35:09.

looks like they are in the lead. Anke Karstens well and truly in the

:35:10.:35:17.

league. It is hers. Ester Ledecka. She lets out a scream, she cannot

:35:18.:35:24.

believe it. Anke Karstens, a very serious competitor. We haven't seen

:35:25.:35:27.

much consideration for anybody she has vanquished so far, not even her

:35:28.:35:35.

fellow countrywoman. Interesting indicator, just to show you, I don't

:35:36.:35:38.

think there was any love lost between the Germans in the eighth

:35:39.:35:53.

finals. Karstens was against Selina Jorg. That is one of the best ways

:35:54.:36:03.

to see who is ahead because you can see where they are in the timing of

:36:04.:36:09.

the ten. -- turn. We don't have any control over the cameras. I would

:36:10.:36:17.

like a few more of those shots. Anke Karstens, ecstatic without victory,

:36:18.:36:23.

and a place in the semifinals. -- with that victory. Confirmation in a

:36:24.:36:32.

moment of Gucci will be facing. -- who she will be facing. Anke

:36:33.:36:42.

Karstens will go against Amelie Kober, her countrywoman. We are

:36:43.:36:54.

guaranteed a German in the final. The rage in Boccacini will carry her

:36:55.:37:00.

through to the final. It will be very interesting. The German gold or

:37:01.:37:09.

silver. They know they have got it. They should all get medals give them

:37:10.:37:17.

all one. Then they are not special. You are 315 times more likely to win

:37:18.:37:22.

the lottery than a gold medal. Is that true? Torah Bright hobby that,

:37:23.:37:34.

her coach had waited out. You are 650 times more likely to be crushed

:37:35.:37:41.

by a shark... Now you are being silly. Put your nose against the

:37:42.:37:51.

wall. Men's quarterfinals. The masterclass will continue. Four

:37:52.:38:10.

tenths of a second for Roland Fischnaller to wake up -- make up.

:38:11.:38:18.

His technique is nowhere near as effective as this man. Fish and

:38:19.:38:25.

Allah is staying with him. -- Roland Fischnaller. Vic Wild is human after

:38:26.:38:36.

all. It will be very close. He caught the gate. Roland Fischnaller

:38:37.:38:42.

could not hold on. Vic Wild, getting a little bit wild. He let it go a

:38:43.:38:48.

little bit loose. He is shaking his head, he thought it was close. It

:38:49.:38:55.

was close. He ended up going completely sideways, just somehow

:38:56.:38:58.

managed to put his edge down. Strong legs there. My goodness. Was that a

:38:59.:39:08.

bit of a false start from him as well?

:39:09.:39:21.

They really have found a hero in Vic Wild. He is making this look so

:39:22.:39:27.

easy, nobody is expecting any mistakes. If he can do this, pull of

:39:28.:39:35.

two gold medals, literally pick the flavour of cereal you want your face

:39:36.:39:42.

on the box of, because he will be a megastar. Two gold medals,

:39:43.:39:48.

incredible. What a feat. As a husband and wife team they will be

:39:49.:39:51.

Richard and Judy before they know it, surely. Alena Zavarzina, the

:39:52.:39:59.

bronze medal from parallel giant slalom. They will never be as good

:40:00.:40:04.

as Richard and Judy. Benny Karl starting with nine

:40:05.:40:12.

hundredths of a second deficit. Nothing in that. Patrick Bussler on

:40:13.:40:23.

the blue course. Looking to extend his lead. Benny Karl a little bit

:40:24.:40:31.

untidy as they come over the bridge. -- Ridge. Benny Karl letting it all

:40:32.:40:47.

go. It is his. That last third, look at him, he is absolutely pumped! We

:40:48.:40:53.

have got some serious pedigree going into the semifinals. I think you get

:40:54.:40:59.

to this business end, it is about strength. It is about the willpower

:41:00.:41:04.

and the technique, but you have got to have the strength. They are

:41:05.:41:11.

working so hard. So much energy at the end of these

:41:12.:41:26.

races as they come across the finish line. UCB explosion of emotion. Give

:41:27.:41:35.

him a lump of coal, he will crush it into a diamond for you right there.

:41:36.:41:41.

He has come back from ankle surgery in 2012 after he smashed his

:41:42.:41:49.

motorbike up. He is desperate to win an Olympic medal. And fortunately

:41:50.:41:57.

for him he will be meeting Vic Wild in the semifinals.

:41:58.:42:04.

He did get a silver in Vancouver. Whether he can better that, we do

:42:05.:42:09.

not know. Austrians still with plenty to cheer four.

:42:10.:42:22.

Aaron March from Italy on the Red Cross, he is out first. Lukas

:42:23.:42:37.

Mathies, flying around these gates. March is tapping the floor between

:42:38.:42:44.

each gate. You have got to watch your hand doesn't hit the polls. It

:42:45.:42:51.

could be enough to just set you off. It is a little technique he has got.

:42:52.:42:56.

So close. Did he make it round that last day? I think he went straight

:42:57.:43:06.

over it. I think the judges might have a look at that. The penultimate

:43:07.:43:10.

gate, did he go properly around it? Just look on a computer screen here.

:43:11.:43:31.

This is the flat section. He was powering through those turns. This

:43:32.:43:41.

gate here. Oh, yes, he was fine, well in. It was very deceptive on

:43:42.:43:49.

the first shot, from the other angle. You couldn't see the

:43:50.:43:52.

perspective. Aaron March, the Italian, goes

:43:53.:44:06.

through to the semifinals. Who will join him? Nevin Galmarini, with a

:44:07.:44:13.

maximum penalty time, to wait in the gate, while Zan Kosir makes his way

:44:14.:44:22.

down the course. Kosir has looked flawless as well, training partner

:44:23.:44:27.

of Vic Wild, as we have said. Look at this. Incredible. I cannot tell

:44:28.:44:37.

you how difficult it is. Look at his arms, they are by his side, by his

:44:38.:44:43.

knees, he is just cruising down. It is that separation of upper and

:44:44.:44:47.

lower body, to write like this you need to be able to make your legs do

:44:48.:44:51.

the work while your body stands really stable over the top. Zan

:44:52.:44:58.

Kosir, that was a lot closer, he did an incredible job of trying to reel

:44:59.:45:06.

in his opponent. He gave him the nod of respect. That was close. 92

:45:07.:45:25.

hundredths of a second, but there's a lot. But Zan Kosir would have been

:45:26.:45:32.

riding at 95%, making sure he did not fall down but was also fast

:45:33.:45:40.

enough not to get caught out. But Nevin Galmarini was just so unlucky,

:45:41.:45:53.

he raced his heart out. All right! Time for the semifinal. We know

:45:54.:46:10.

about the men. So, Vic Wild will face Benjamin Karl. And Aaron March

:46:11.:46:18.

and Zan Kosir. Vic Wild and Zan Kosir have already been set up, they

:46:19.:46:21.

would like to meet each other in the final. They are the highest seeds

:46:22.:46:27.

from the qualification. And they are at opposite ends of the draw. It is

:46:28.:46:34.

looking very likely. It is all going to plan. And they have similar

:46:35.:46:43.

styles. The top half of their body is rock-solid and their legs to all

:46:44.:46:55.

of the work. Just ability to snap that board through those turns and

:46:56.:47:00.

accelerate is just phenomenal. So, on one side we have the ice cold

:47:01.:47:08.

Austrian, Julia Dujmovits. So solid in her work. She is in the blue

:47:09.:47:15.

gate. And then Corinna Boccacini, the Italian. This is quite subdued

:47:16.:47:25.

from her. That made me jump! She has been fired up for this! So, the

:47:26.:47:34.

first run of the semifinals. So important to get a bit of a lead.

:47:35.:47:43.

Get through these runs and you know it is gold or silver. Corinna

:47:44.:47:49.

Boccacini behind. Julia Dujmovits was slowing right down on that turn.

:47:50.:48:00.

That has cost her. Going wide. Yes, she has to hang on. As quickly as

:48:01.:48:07.

possible... OK. So, Corinna Boccacini, eight tenths off the

:48:08.:48:20.

pace. There is no war cry! Well, Julia Dujmovits has been so fluid

:48:21.:48:24.

through this course. I have said that for billion times today. But

:48:25.:48:29.

there is a lot of finesse to that. And it will be very hard to make

:48:30.:48:36.

that up. Echoes of surfing. That was beautiful. Kelly Slater looks a

:48:37.:48:46.

little bit like that. 11 or 12 times world champion? One of the worlds

:48:47.:48:55.

best surfers. He is 41. I think he is got size 13 feet. -- has got.

:48:56.:49:05.

Magnificent. It is a thing of beauty. They are racing against the

:49:06.:49:11.

clock. But not many people in the world can do that. Amelie Kober

:49:12.:49:20.

against Anke Karstens. German semifinal on the other side of the

:49:21.:49:25.

draw. This guarantees one of these women silver or gold. Whoever loses

:49:26.:49:31.

will be in the smaller final, battling for the bronze medal. Anke

:49:32.:49:37.

Karstens, that Lord battle cry. Come on! The jihad the gate? -- did she

:49:38.:49:49.

get the gate? It did not seem to knock her out. Oh no! She has gone

:49:50.:50:00.

really wide. Waving about wildly. Disappointment. Anke Karstens makes

:50:01.:50:13.

her way down. So, Amelie Kober will take... She is back up and running.

:50:14.:50:19.

So, Amelie Kober will take a penalty. I think she has hurt

:50:20.:50:27.

herself. It looks like she is carrying a bit of a knock, looking

:50:28.:50:29.

out from this commentary booth. It was a good start. Amelie Kober

:50:30.:50:53.

got away. And that was a mistake. She has got arm up. She was protect

:50:54.:51:01.

in her elbow. Good spot. And from then on... Anke Karstens had a free

:51:02.:51:08.

ride. Certainly looking, from appear, you can see that Amelie

:51:09.:51:17.

Kober has disappeared. Whether someone can help out in time, we do

:51:18.:51:26.

not know. She is just around the bag. -- back. So, the semifinal for

:51:27.:51:42.

the men. This will be interesting. Benjamin Karl. He wants to add

:51:43.:51:47.

another big Olympic medal to his collection, he got silver in

:51:48.:51:52.

Vancouver. Can he take a medal at the first ever parallel slalom at

:51:53.:52:02.

the Olympics? Vic Wild on the red course. For once, you are right, we

:52:03.:52:08.

have not seen a lot of daylight preen both of them. So, Vic Wild has

:52:09.:52:13.

to work a little bit harder. He looks across. Where is his man?

:52:14.:52:19.

Keeping him in check. Benjamin Karl on the blue course is really hanging

:52:20.:52:28.

on! He has gone! Vic Wild has gone! Benjamin Karl has done the

:52:29.:52:31.

unthinkable and put enough measure on Vic Wild Jamaican crack. You were

:52:32.:52:41.

saying that he was not really tested and we would see him tested in the

:52:42.:52:45.

semifinals and Benjamin Karl has done exactly that. Obviously,

:52:46.:52:51.

Benjamin Karl was not intimidated by the Russian. Instead, he gave as

:52:52.:52:57.

good as he got. For three quarters of that course. Until Vic Wild,

:52:58.:53:04.

usually flawless with his technique, had a look across... And he gets a

:53:05.:53:13.

little bit... He just gives it too much. He basically gives it too much

:53:14.:53:24.

gas. Going into that turn. That has been his technique. He has been able

:53:25.:53:30.

to really put the edge in. That time, he has come unstuck. So there

:53:31.:53:39.

is a chink in the armour. If we look at the quarterfinal, I think you

:53:40.:53:50.

will see, who was at? You have got... It was Roland Fischnaller,

:53:51.:53:59.

who did real in Vic Wild. He did catch up quite a bit. -- reel in.

:54:00.:54:10.

Can he do the same? Zan Kosir. And Aaron March from Italy. Zan Kosir

:54:11.:54:15.

will know the result from his training partner. Desperate to make

:54:16.:54:24.

sure that if ten one does not make it, he does. -- Vic Wild. He looks

:54:25.:54:37.

so fluid. Nice and compact. Zan Kosir, starting to get away. Despite

:54:38.:54:46.

the technique. Zan Kosir is busy. And he has me that kind. All three

:54:47.:54:53.

quarters of a second. There was not a lot in that. Nothing. Zan Kosir is

:54:54.:55:04.

looking good! He reminds me of the Prince of Persia. I do not know why.

:55:05.:55:16.

Zan Kosir, such a very good line through that flat. Beautiful timing.

:55:17.:55:30.

He knows exactly where he is and what wants he to do on every single

:55:31.:55:39.

one. So... Zan Kosir, steadying himself. Aaron March knows he has an

:55:40.:55:48.

uphill struggle. He will have that deficit to make up. Back to the top.

:55:49.:56:00.

And time for the woman. -- the women. The second semifinal. This

:56:01.:56:07.

will decide who goes into the big final to battle at four silver and

:56:08.:56:11.

gold. And who goes into the smaller final to play for the bronze medal.

:56:12.:56:24.

Corinna Boccacini with the deficit. Can she came the beast that is

:56:25.:56:35.

Corinna Boccacini? -- tame. Keep your eye on Corinna Boccacini. One

:56:36.:56:41.

of the big seeds. And Corinna Boccacini is up. There was that look

:56:42.:56:48.

across. And she has gone loose! Corinna Boccacini! She has gone! She

:56:49.:56:56.

has thrown it away. Julia Dujmovits taking her team. -- her time. And

:56:57.:57:04.

Corinna Boccacini had done so well to get back into that race. She must

:57:05.:57:12.

have seen Julia Dujmovits making that mistake. I am going to win it!

:57:13.:57:19.

Oh, no, I have made a mistake! The moment you take your mind off and

:57:20.:57:24.

start thinking about winning, you will leave the course! Just as

:57:25.:57:30.

Corinna Boccacini did just there. That is the final result for the

:57:31.:57:34.

semifinal. Julia Dujmovits advancing into the big final. She will go

:57:35.:57:41.

forward gold or silver. Corinna Boccacini racing in the smaller

:57:42.:57:45.

final and the winner will take the bronze medal. All looking good at

:57:46.:57:56.

this point. This was the mistake. Oh, yes. These boards have been set

:57:57.:58:09.

up in a directional way so they can only be read in one way. -- ridden.

:58:10.:58:21.

I have been inspired. I will give this a go! Really? Yes. I will go

:58:22.:58:33.

back. No British entry... Could we see you representing Great Britain?

:58:34.:58:40.

I love the commentary box. Anke Karstens. Up against Amelie Kober.

:58:41.:58:54.

She has got that 1.25 second lead. We have seen mistakes in every

:58:55.:59:04.

semifinal so far. The police officer, Anke Karstens, looking

:59:05.:59:11.

comfortable. Amelie Kober is hard at work. Anke Karstens might have taken

:59:12.:59:24.

her foot off the gas too much. Look at how fast she is going! Oh my

:59:25.:59:32.

goodness! Heartbreaking. Heartbreaking for Amelie Kober. She

:59:33.:59:38.

came so close. That was phenomenal. She reeled in 1.6 seconds. I think

:59:39.:59:47.

Anke Karstens was a little bit shocked when she saw just how close

:59:48.:59:53.

she was on that flat section. That was the boost that she needed.

:59:54.:00:13.

Wonderful gate ahead. -- one full. Look at just how tight that was. Oh!

:00:14.:00:25.

Isn't life cruel? That is the Olympics for you, why can't anybody

:00:26.:00:34.

when? -- everybody. We talked about the importance of not being afraid

:00:35.:00:38.

to fail. Especially the freestyle event, that is something that has

:00:39.:00:45.

been promoted. Nothing original comes from being afraid to be wrong.

:00:46.:00:50.

If you are afraid to fail you will never come up with something new.

:00:51.:00:56.

Beautiful words. Anke Karstens makes it into the first ever Olympic

:00:57.:01:03.

parallel slalom final, facing Judi Dench of its -- Julia Dujmovits.

:01:04.:01:20.

We will watch the member for their second runs. Dashed the men go for

:01:21.:01:27.

their second runs. Will he not be the pantomime villain

:01:28.:01:47.

if he knocks Vic Wild into the bronze medal race? First time we

:01:48.:01:53.

have seen Vic Wild really under pressure.

:01:54.:02:00.

He has got the technique. It is a huge deficit. A whole flag. Vic

:02:01.:02:16.

Wild's technique is fantastic. This top section really suits fit while.

:02:17.:02:23.

He has got him already. Vic Wild has reeled him in. They are neck and

:02:24.:02:29.

neck. Benny Karl will see him here. This will be so tired. I think it

:02:30.:02:37.

will be Benny Karls. He cannot believe it. Benny Karl cannot

:02:38.:02:47.

believe it. The crowd cannot believe it. They are going absolutely

:02:48.:02:56.

mental. In a semifinal that is mildly humiliating for Benny Karl.

:02:57.:03:07.

That is phenomenal. Benny Karl will be shell-shocked. He cannot take a

:03:08.:03:17.

snowboard. The one thing Benny Karl can take from it is he has been

:03:18.:03:23.

soundly beaten. That is the only thing he can take. Look how far

:03:24.:03:33.

ahead he is here. This man, if you were to rip off his skin he would be

:03:34.:03:38.

a titanium robot. Where is he getting the power from? And the

:03:39.:03:42.

finish, he has no business doing that. Oh, my goodness. That looked

:03:43.:03:58.

like an absolute rule. -- draw. The Russians are going crazy. Benny Karl

:03:59.:04:11.

giving the props to Vic Wild, he knows how good he is. That is

:04:12.:04:15.

absolutely incredible. Truly phenomenal. You would be forgiven

:04:16.:04:21.

for thinking he might rest on his one gold medal, but judging by that,

:04:22.:04:27.

he wants another one. That is brilliant. When you are that much

:04:28.:04:31.

better than somebody like Benny Karl, who has dedicated his entire

:04:32.:04:36.

life to Alpine snowboarding. Time for the second run of the second

:04:37.:04:42.

semifinal, Zan Kosir of Slovenia up against the Italian, Aaron March.

:04:43.:04:55.

In Zan Kosir, what is he going to do? When you are chasing you can

:04:56.:05:10.

find the speed from somewhere. Zan Kosir, he has seen him early. He

:05:11.:05:18.

landed on his face on the wrong side. He got a chest slammed there,

:05:19.:05:25.

that would have heard. Zan Kosir is through to the final. He will meet

:05:26.:05:33.

Vic Wild. His training partner. This was the final they wanted. We have

:05:34.:05:42.

been setting this up all day as the equivalent of Rocky when they are

:05:43.:05:47.

battling. They will have had this race seminary times in private. --

:05:48.:05:56.

so many times. His arm got caught on the gate, they are getting as close

:05:57.:06:00.

to the gates as possible. It doesn't matter if they knock the flags of,

:06:01.:06:05.

they just need to make sure they go around the smaller post. He couldn't

:06:06.:06:15.

keep his weight down. That is how much power there is. We have been

:06:16.:06:20.

going on about this, pre-loading the board. When you see it believes like

:06:21.:06:24.

that and the rider is not in control. It has just flogged and --

:06:25.:06:35.

flung a 13 stone man into the air. Zan Kosir advances to the final.

:06:36.:06:43.

Aaron March will face Benny Karl for the small final. Bronze medal.

:06:44.:06:52.

Parallel slalom hasn't disappointed. On its debut at the games. No

:06:53.:07:02.

shortage of excitement. Mildly concerned at how many cores workers

:07:03.:07:06.

are still shovelling on the course, while the ladies or in the gate. I

:07:07.:07:11.

am sure that will clear. Amelie Kober against Corinna Boccacini, the

:07:12.:07:19.

Italian, for the bronze medal. Amelie Kober has done so well to

:07:20.:07:24.

fight her way this far in. She is on the blue gate. My goodness. She is

:07:25.:07:38.

like a lion. A big stallion in a rodeo pen, coming out kicking and

:07:39.:07:46.

blocking. Look how fluid she is. Making light work of this top

:07:47.:07:51.

section. Boccacini barging the gate in comparison. Boccacini looks a

:07:52.:08:05.

little tired. Amelie Kober is looking fresh. Amelie Kober will go

:08:06.:08:18.

into the second run with the advantage. Corinna Boccacini needs

:08:19.:08:27.

to find that instantly accessible rage. It is definitely her

:08:28.:08:43.

superpower. Amelie Kober, very space. Transferring the weight,

:08:44.:08:55.

pre-loading the nose of the board. Storing up that energy and letting

:08:56.:09:10.

it explode out of the tail. Did she have the broken arm? No, that was

:09:11.:09:16.

Alena Zavarzina. Bronze medallist from the parallel giant slalom. Now

:09:17.:09:23.

it is the big final. You have got to say, the Austrian, she has just gone

:09:24.:09:34.

about her business. There wasn't really a lot of pomp and ceremony to

:09:35.:09:39.

this. She has been really stoic in her work. Karstens, there is that

:09:40.:09:51.

shout. The big one forecasters was beating Selina Jorg. As soon as she

:09:52.:10:02.

got that done, she was on a roll. Karstens, a goofy rider. They are

:10:03.:10:08.

facing each other, can see each other. Karstens is looking stronger

:10:09.:10:21.

and stronger with every game. That is a big deficit. And no

:10:22.:10:32.

characteristic screen from Karstens. Judging on the form of the

:10:33.:10:35.

quarterfinals and semifinals, a fair final would probably have been the

:10:36.:10:40.

two Germans will stop -- the two Germans. Amelie Kober looked really

:10:41.:10:49.

good. They both look like they have got a lot of energy, spring in their

:10:50.:10:53.

step. Good to see them battle it out in the final. Dujmovits, she has

:10:54.:11:00.

done it right, she has rightfully won her case here in the final.

:11:01.:11:11.

We have got Dujmovits, and we will have her barracks cheering for her,

:11:12.:11:15.

because she is in the Army. And there will be constabulary cheering

:11:16.:11:19.

her opponent on, because she is in the police force. Imagine getting

:11:20.:11:24.

pulled over for speeding and it is the gold medal from the Olympics.

:11:25.:11:34.

Aren't you Anke Karstens? Do you want to see my medal?

:11:35.:11:47.

Karstens has one hand, gold medal for top with that lead, you have got

:11:48.:11:57.

to say it is Anke Karstens to lose. Now we come to the man's small

:11:58.:12:05.

final. Benny Karl and Aaron March. Where is your money going? Are we

:12:06.:12:15.

allowed to bet? No. I will say Benny Karl. I just think Aaron March has

:12:16.:12:25.

got a lot of fire in him. Benny Karl has already got a silver. He doesn't

:12:26.:12:38.

want the bronze. Of course he does. The Italian looking good in this top

:12:39.:12:44.

section. Benny Karl has got the style for me. A good key to look

:12:45.:12:52.

for, if they are still crouched down throughout the flat, it means they

:12:53.:13:01.

have still got a lot of energy. It is close. Benny Karl has just got

:13:02.:13:07.

this, I think. Benny Karl, just up after the first run. Aaron March

:13:08.:13:13.

will have two watch Benny Karl leave the gate. He will have seen what Vic

:13:14.:13:24.

Wild did to Benny Karl in the semifinals and will think you might

:13:25.:13:27.

be able to do it too. Anything is possible. I am amazed Benny Karl can

:13:28.:13:33.

concentrate on this, I would be wondering how on earth Vic Wild

:13:34.:13:37.

Courtney, questioning whether I don't. -- caught me. I just trained

:13:38.:13:46.

since I was 15, I am 28, 13 years, and I went as fast as I could and

:13:47.:13:52.

somebody beat me by 1.29 seconds. Unbelievable. We will get to see him

:13:53.:14:02.

now truly tested, Vic Wild. He was tested in the first semifinal. He is

:14:03.:14:06.

up against Zan Kosir. Benny Karl will start ahead in the

:14:07.:14:27.

second run. Now the Russians in fine voice. Vic Wild goes up against the

:14:28.:14:36.

Slovenian, Zan Kosir. Vic Wilder will be on the red gate closest to

:14:37.:14:43.

the camera. They have done this in private. Training so many times now,

:14:44.:14:49.

now it is time to do it on the big stage. The men's parallels Alan

:14:50.:15:03.

final underway. Vic Wild is in the lead already. He looks like a

:15:04.:15:11.

Springbok. They can see each other. Facing each other. Regular and

:15:12.:15:21.

goofy. He is pulling away. There is no sign of any tiredness. Oh! Just

:15:22.:15:33.

12 hundredths of a second. The Russians are on their feet. It is a

:15:34.:15:41.

sea of video cameras as they tried to hold on to this moment. Zan

:15:42.:15:54.

Kosir, wondering what he can do. But Vic Wild could be about to make

:15:55.:15:58.

history. If he wins, he will be the first man ever to take two gold

:15:59.:16:03.

medals at one Winter Olympics in snowboarding. Has that been done in

:16:04.:16:21.

skiing? Yes, I think so. As you say, history in the making. And he will

:16:22.:16:28.

cement his place. This lost or a very interesting debate in the

:16:29.:16:32.

United States because Vic Wild was born in Washington State. He

:16:33.:16:37.

defected when the American Alpine programme would not support him. And

:16:38.:16:42.

here he is, about to claim two gold medals. At the start, if you ask

:16:43.:16:48.

anybody which snowboarder would be going home with two gold medals, you

:16:49.:16:54.

would have said... Why put me on the spot? You would have said Shaun

:16:55.:17:01.

White! Oh, yes, sorry. I thought you meant Alpine racing! Of course,

:17:02.:17:10.

Shaun White. But he pulled out of slopestyle and he did not win the

:17:11.:17:16.

gold medal in the halfpipe. The small final, the second run. The

:17:17.:17:27.

powerhouse, Corinna Boccacini, she might not have the same finesse...

:17:28.:17:40.

She is on course. Corinna Boccacini is up there! Straightaway! And not

:17:41.:17:49.

far behind, Amelie Kober. You can hear that grunting. Corinna

:17:50.:17:55.

Boccacini is shouting at yourself. She once this so badly. Without that

:17:56.:18:03.

all Amelie Kober? It might be working. And Corinna Boccacini must

:18:04.:18:09.

know it, but that is a very beautiful style. Oh, no! What if it

:18:10.:18:14.

has to grace! That was absolutely beautiful. Corinna Boccacini really

:18:15.:18:21.

pushing Amelie Kober. They shake hands. And the velociraptor goes out

:18:22.:18:30.

the window. Once she crosses the line. That was very good racing and

:18:31.:18:36.

Corinna Boccacini was a very worthy opponent. Amelie Kober has to

:18:37.:18:42.

knowledge that. These gates or about 20 feet apart as you look at them.

:18:43.:18:47.

But you do feel so close when racing side by side. You can hear the

:18:48.:18:52.

noises and you get hit eyepieces of their snow. It just feels so

:18:53.:19:01.

intense. It is compact. You are isolated on your own track but

:19:02.:19:05.

somebody is always bearing down on you. It is a very different

:19:06.:19:10.

psychology. Amelie Kober, just hanging on. Corinna Boccacini had

:19:11.:19:15.

the speed. 11 Metre and that would have been her bronze medal.

:19:16.:19:25.

Absolutely. -- one more Metre. That is very nice to see. She will

:19:26.:19:31.

realise just how close when she watches that at home. It might

:19:32.:19:40.

reawaken that velociraptor. So, Amelie Kober, absolutely made up.

:19:41.:19:49.

Can we give her a medal of some description? Corinna Boccacini? I am

:19:50.:19:56.

sure we can manage it. We will buy them superhero capes. This is a very

:19:57.:20:05.

big final. One of these women will be going home with the gold medal.

:20:06.:20:10.

Right now, it looks like it could be German gold and bronze. Anke

:20:11.:20:20.

Karstens. The police officer. She has the lead. And Julia Dujmovits,

:20:21.:20:32.

she is in the hunt. On the first run they could see each other. They are

:20:33.:20:36.

back-to-back. They will feel that presence. Julia Dujmovits. Just a

:20:37.:20:47.

little bit of a wash. Oh no! Julia Dujmovits has held on! It is not

:20:48.:20:53.

over! How did she do that? I think Anke Karstens has taken that to

:20:54.:21:03.

easily! Look! Oh! Julia Dujmovits, after that huge mistake, she made up

:21:04.:21:08.

three quarters of the second. Then she almost fell down. She pulled it

:21:09.:21:12.

back. There must have been a big mistake from Anke Karstens. It just

:21:13.:21:20.

looked, to me, like Anke Karstens was taking it easily. She did not

:21:21.:21:28.

look like the same athlete from the quarterfinal and the semifinal. And

:21:29.:21:31.

that is the podium. Well, German bronze. And German silver. And it

:21:32.:21:38.

very and expect did Austrian gold medal. -- a very unexpected. Can we

:21:39.:21:51.

pick this part in the replay? Despite the deficit, Julia Dujmovits

:21:52.:22:06.

had a fantastic start. That was a big mistake. She newly fell over. --

:22:07.:22:13.

nearly. You actually could see her powering out of that. I mean, it was

:22:14.:22:19.

probably one with the handle new line. Well... She has such

:22:20.:22:29.

technique. So much explosive lament from that last turn. -- momentum.

:22:30.:22:39.

The coaches cannot believe it! Absolutely phenomenal. We said that

:22:40.:22:45.

she flew in under the radar and she has gone about your business. Julia

:22:46.:22:49.

Dujmovits has taken the gold medal, Anke Karstens takes the silver

:22:50.:22:57.

medal. And Amelie Kober with the bronze medal at the first ever

:22:58.:22:59.

ladies parallel slalom Olympic final. But it is not over. We still

:23:00.:23:10.

have the small matter of the men to decide. Aaron March and Michael

:23:11.:23:19.

Lambert in the small final. And then Vic Wild and Zan Kosir in the big

:23:20.:23:30.

final. Benjamin Karl will be closest. His blue helmet. Benjamin

:23:31.:23:41.

Karl already has a silver medal from Vancouver. Can he and -- added

:23:42.:23:53.

bronze medal from Sochi? -- add a. Aaron March has gone! Benjamin Karl

:23:54.:23:59.

will just glide down to claim his bronze medal. It looks like he has

:24:00.:24:16.

not realised yet. Do not fall over! Aaron March would have been

:24:17.:24:20.

powering. I think he did see him coming down. We nearly had that turn

:24:21.:24:28.

that use of desperately wanted. And his team-mate joins them. Austrian

:24:29.:24:37.

medals today. That was a very successful Olympic for the Austrian

:24:38.:24:50.

snowboarders. The boys share and embrace. And that is good to see.

:24:51.:24:57.

Lovely to see just how much the bronze medal means to him. I was

:24:58.:25:02.

literally just thinking that. He is absolutely over the moon. He is

:25:03.:25:07.

waving to the crowd at the bottom. Thrusting his board into the air.

:25:08.:25:19.

Aaron March, out of his line. He sets Benjamin Karl free. One of the

:25:20.:25:26.

most prominent figures in Alpine snowboarding. Overwhelmed at his

:25:27.:25:37.

victory. Somebody wake him up! He cannot believe it. Aaron March is

:25:38.:25:46.

very upset. Well, he will be upset with himself because he made the

:25:47.:25:54.

mistake and that has cost him. He is coming down from a massive

:25:55.:26:01.

adrenaline high. There is one race left at the Extreme Park. This will

:26:02.:26:12.

close down the event for Sochi 2014. And it is a good race, Zan Kosir

:26:13.:26:16.

against Vic Wild. So many stories here. The American who defected to

:26:17.:26:23.

Russia is racing his training partner and they have such similar

:26:24.:26:27.

styles. Just 12 hundredths of a second separating them. Vic Wild, if

:26:28.:26:34.

he takes this, will be the first man with a double gold medal in

:26:35.:26:44.

snowboarding disciplines. Vic Wild is out and Zan Kosir right behind.

:26:45.:26:52.

Nothing between them. The crowd are willing him down. The volume has

:26:53.:26:57.

gone up to 11. He is starting to pull away. Zan Kosir trying very

:26:58.:27:05.

hard, looking fluid. And that is a mistake from Vic Wild! He goes into

:27:06.:27:10.

the front! He has done enough! He is going to do it! It is so close! Zan

:27:11.:27:21.

Kosir managed to shave 100th of a second from his deficit. But the

:27:22.:27:28.

Russians are rapturous. Zan Kosir is the first man to lead double gold

:27:29.:27:34.

medal. And he has done it with an absolute masterclass in parallel

:27:35.:27:46.

slalom. Vic Wild! You said Zan Kosir! That is just the energy

:27:47.:27:53.

pouring into the commentary with. We are beside ourselves up here. Well,

:27:54.:27:59.

what is he thinking? A fantastic performance from Vic Wild to earn

:28:00.:28:04.

the gold medal. In the silver medal position, it is his training

:28:05.:28:09.

partner, Zan Kosir. And then Benjamin Karl from Austria with

:28:10.:28:16.

bronze. It is official, Russia is just wild

:28:17.:28:25.

about Vic Wild. The 10th gold medal for the host nation. And two of them

:28:26.:28:29.

have come from a man born in America and three of them from a skater born

:28:30.:28:34.

in Korea. They will take them anyway they can. Wonderful performance from

:28:35.:28:38.

this morning. And that brings to a close the programme. So much more to

:28:39.:28:44.

come, e-mail and slalom, the first run from 12:30pm. And then the

:28:45.:28:52.

four-man bobsleigh. That is it from me, I harbour ambitions for the

:28:53.:28:56.

closing ceremony. Thank you to the team in Sochi. And a brilliant night

:28:57.:29:00.

shift in Salford. Thanks for your company on the Olympic backlist.

:29:01.:29:06.

Goodbye. -- breakfast.
