Hello. Good evening. A teenager has been taken to

hospital after falling 15 feet from a fairground ride on Worthing

seafront. The girl fell from the Rocker ride, which was in motion at

the time, shortly before 9:30 last night. Police and paramedics were

called to the scene and the girl was taken to the Royal Sussex County

Hospital in Brighton. Sean Killick reports.

An official safety inspection is being carried out on the Rocker

tonight. It is run by an experienced contractor. Sussex Police say at

9:30pm a teenage girl fell 15 feet from the ride, it was in motion at

the time. The police were here and the ambulance was here quickly and I

believe she was taken to hospital. I believe she has hurt her wrist and

ankle. The ride is closed for the time being. Obviously, the ride

operators are cooperating with the council and giving full cooperation.

Is there a sign of any fault with the ride? There is no sign at this

stage. All the rides in the fair were checked by officers before they

were set up and they do have up`to`date safety certificates. The

other rides began operating as planned, but the Rocker remains

closed. The council later said that the Health and Safety Executive said

there was nothing mechanically wrong with the ride and it will reopen

tomorrow. Meanwhile, the injured girl has been released from

hospital. Health campaigners in Hampshire say

the county is a hotspot for asbestos`related disease. Today in

Portsmouth a group abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower to raise awareness

of incurable asbestos`linked cancer. They say it is especially prevalent

in the area because of historical heavy industry. Rob Powell has more.

It was once a building material used across the country, now it is a

banned substance. But diseases caused by inhalation of

asbestos linger. There is a lung cancer caused purely by asbestos

exposure. It lies in the core of the lung and it can lay there for many

years, before it actually sort of rears its ugly head. Campaigners say

industries like dock working make Portsmouth something of a hotspot.

The NHS say there are 40 new cases each in Portsmouth. `` each year.

Today, Portsmouth Spinnaker Tower was the challenge as doctors,

campaigners and lawyers all abseiled down trying to raise money and

awareness for this yet incurable disease.

In speedway, Poole Pirates have won the Elite League Shield. The first

showdown was at Poole earlier today, where the Pirates won by 56 to 34.

Tonight, they travelled to Swindon and beat them again giving them an

aggregate score of 103`79. And it's been a crucial day in the fight for

playoff places for our sides. In the Championship, Reading slipped up at

Wigan, beaten 3`0, which means they drop out of the playoff places.

They're replaced by Brighton, who got a late equaliser at

Huddersfield. And Bournemouth mist the chance to catch up ground on

them both ` they were beaten 4`2 at home by Sheffield Wednesday with two

goals for the visitors in the last few minutes. In League One, Swindon

scored a last`minute winner at Coventry, but MK Dons went down 1`0

to Port Vale. And in League Two, Oxford United dropped out of the

playoff positions, beaten by York City, who replace them in the
