Shalim Hussein is one of Wales most successful businessmen,

:00:00.:00:15.

now his online takeaway firm is being investigated

:00:16.:00:17.

by the Welsh Government after receiving a grant

:00:18.:00:19.

to create jobs, some of which were out-sourced abroad.

A quarter more patients benefit from organ transplants in the last year.

:00:22.:00:24.

Ultimately we want to see a successful company creating quality

jobs. The Welsh government need to look in the mirror and ask have we

done all we can to protect the public purse?

A quarter more patients benefit from organ transplants in the last year.

:00:39.:00:44.

Is it down to the change in the law here?

:00:45.:00:47.

She's given C of the people life, they are living thanks to someone so

:00:48.:00:51.

wonderful. The fight to save one of our rarest

:00:52.:00:54.

creatures from extinction, And in the sport, having won gold in

:00:55.:01:07.

real we speak to Alan Barker about her future plans.

:01:08.:01:22.

Shelim Hussain is one of Wales' most successful entrepreneurs.

:01:23.:01:26.

Aged just seventeen he began selling prawns to restaurants and rapidly

:01:27.:01:29.

built a multi-million pound food-processing business.

:01:30.:01:31.

Two years ago he set up a new firm, kukd.com, an online food delivery

:01:32.:01:38.

service and the Welsh government gave him a ?1million grant

:01:39.:01:42.

on the understanding he created a hundred new jobs here in Wales.

:01:43.:01:47.

But some of those jobs were outsourced to Bangladesh

:01:48.:01:51.

and India, and now the Welsh Government's Counter Fraud

:01:52.:01:54.

and Internal Audit Unit has launched an investigation.

:01:55.:01:57.

With this exclusive report, here's Gareth Bryer.

:01:58.:02:01.

I'm Shelim Hussein, from EuroFood Group in Newport.

:02:02.:02:06.

We are the largest suppliers to the ethnic catering

:02:07.:02:08.

This is one of Wales's most successful businessman,

:02:09.:02:15.

he's been a regular on TV, won awards for his work,

:02:16.:02:24.

a MBand plaudits from a former Prime Minister.

:02:25.:02:26.

Euro foods employs more than 200 people.

:02:27.:02:28.

That is an extraordinary achievement for Shelim and a huge boost

:02:29.:02:31.

Euro foods has been supplying the takeaway and restaurant

:02:32.:02:34.

And now he's moved into something new, the takeaway food

:02:35.:02:38.

And modern technology is revolutionising

:02:39.:02:42.

Kukd.com is hoping to gain a foothold in this growing market,

:02:43.:02:46.

but the company is the subject of an enquiry after receiving

:02:47.:02:50.

financial support from the Welsh government.

:02:51.:02:53.

Kukd.com offers a one-stop shop allowing customers to would takeaway

:02:54.:02:55.

weeks or book a table online, through an app, or website.

:02:56.:03:00.

The Welsh government decided to support kukd with grant funding

:03:01.:03:03.

of ?2.75 million for the creation of around 280

:03:04.:03:07.

The company received an initial ?1 million in 2015

:03:08.:03:13.

The Welsh government is investigating anonymous

:03:14.:03:19.

allegations that the ground conditions weren't fulfilled.

:03:20.:03:23.

There are things that staff were transferred from Euro Foods

:03:24.:03:25.

And it has emerged that some employees were laid off

:03:26.:03:31.

from the company and jobs were outsourced to

:03:32.:03:33.

We've spoken to a source close to the company, their words

:03:34.:03:38.

are spoken by production team member to protect their identity.

:03:39.:03:44.

A number of people have been affected.

:03:45.:03:46.

It's the junior people been the biggest victims.

:03:47.:03:48.

The people who the grant money is probably for haven't benefited

:03:49.:03:51.

Some feel the case raises wider questions.

:03:52.:03:56.

We are not talking an considerable sum of money.

:03:57.:04:01.

To date ?1 million has been made available,

:04:02.:04:03.

they have received that money on the basis of jobs

:04:04.:04:05.

After that, we want to see a successful company creating

:04:06.:04:15.

If that's not happening than the Welsh government need

:04:16.:04:18.

to look at themselves in the mirror and ask have we done all we can

:04:19.:04:21.

to protect the public purse was a and act

:04:22.:04:23.

Shelim Hussein declined to be interviewed, but gave a statement

:04:24.:04:27.

He says he's been transparent in all his dealings with the Welsh

:04:28.:04:31.

government, and that all ground conditions were met.

:04:32.:04:33.

Says that some jobs were outsourced abroad to save the company.

:04:34.:04:36.

Something he claims the Welsh government was aware of.

:04:37.:04:41.

The Welsh government has no wrongdoing has been found to date.

:04:42.:04:44.

But no further payments will be made to kukd.com

:04:45.:04:46.

Our Political Editor, Nick Servini is here.

:04:47.:04:52.

Nick, there seems to have been lots of controversy

:04:53.:04:55.

over Welsh Government grants in recent months.

:04:56.:04:56.

There have been some stories. Last week we did a story on a conflict of

:04:57.:05:10.

interests in Carmarthenshire. The fact that there have been a number

:05:11.:05:17.

of stories like this implies that the public spending watchdog should

:05:18.:05:22.

take a look into the entire system. We've had critical stories about

:05:23.:05:27.

grants to companies over the years, usually the accusation is that the

:05:28.:05:32.

public body, the Welsh government in this case, took on too much risk.

:05:33.:05:37.

Different dynamics with this one, because we have a very successful

:05:38.:05:40.

businessman with a proven track record. That has played in two

:05:41.:05:45.

different claims and counterclaims with this story. The broader and

:05:46.:05:50.

final point on any of the stories that we cover in relation to grants,

:05:51.:05:55.

inevitably gets tied up in the debate of whether it's better to

:05:56.:05:58.

support companies through grants or loans. In Wales we have yo-yoed

:05:59.:06:04.

between the two. The argument is grants are more competitive against

:06:05.:06:09.

other parts of the country, some say loans are better to develop

:06:10.:06:13.

home-grown talent. That debate, I suspect, is going to continue.

:06:14.:06:15.

Wales is "leading the way" in efforts to increase the number

:06:16.:06:19.

of lives being saved by organ transplants, after a new law came

:06:20.:06:22.

That's according to the Chief Medical Officer for Wales.

:06:23.:06:25.

It comes as new annual NHS figures show that almost a quarter more

:06:26.:06:28.

patients here have benefited from organ transplants in the year

:06:29.:06:31.

Our health correspondent Owain Clarke has the details.

:06:32.:06:42.

Transplanting organs from one person to another, one of the most

:06:43.:06:49.

remarkable achievements of modern medicine. This teenager is getting a

:06:50.:06:54.

new kidney, and a new lease of life. Many more are waiting for the same

:06:55.:06:58.

chance. This is Wales's only transplant unit

:06:59.:07:02.

at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Around 120 patients come

:07:03.:07:08.

here each year for a new pancreas or kidney. There are not enough organs

:07:09.:07:12.

to meet the demand. So how do you increase the number? Nine months ago

:07:13.:07:18.

Wales became the first, and only country in the UK, to introduce a

:07:19.:07:23.

new law, with the aim of increasing the supply for them and others

:07:24.:07:25.

across the UK. It means if you are an adult living

:07:26.:07:29.

in Wales you are now considered to be willing for your organs to be

:07:30.:07:33.

donated after death and lest you make your objection clear. New

:07:34.:07:37.

figures show that in the 12 months up to March this year 214 people

:07:38.:07:43.

received transplants compare it to 174 the previous year. An increase

:07:44.:07:48.

of almost 25%, much higher than that across the UK.

:07:49.:07:53.

The number of deceased donors in Wales increased by just four, in

:07:54.:07:58.

line with the rest of the UK. But the Welsh government's top doctor,

:07:59.:08:03.

is cautiously optimistic. We have to be careful about looking at when

:08:04.:08:08.

you's data in anything. I think we are on the right track. We are

:08:09.:08:13.

seeing more donations and transplants on people's lives are

:08:14.:08:18.

being transformed. Lori knows all too well wide

:08:19.:08:22.

transplants matters. She knew Sherwood need a new heart,

:08:23.:08:29.

inheriting her father's condition. But as her husband explains last

:08:30.:08:33.

September, just five months after their wedding, her heart stopped and

:08:34.:08:37.

she never recovered. But who organs saved the lives. I'm

:08:38.:08:43.

sure, with time, I'll appreciate that she lives on in many ways.

:08:44.:08:48.

She's always around me. But I also believe that, and her memory, but I

:08:49.:08:57.

take comfort in that quite literally she has given three other people

:08:58.:09:01.

life. They are living thanks to someone so wonderful. Someone who

:09:02.:09:07.

was such a wonderful person to me. The stark reality is that despite

:09:08.:09:11.

all the efforts to increase donor numbers those on the front line say

:09:12.:09:17.

too many still die waiting. We are seeing patients die every

:09:18.:09:22.

other week in Wales. As a result of the shortage of organs. We need to

:09:23.:09:28.

make some changes, if we can increase the number of donors by a

:09:29.:09:33.

relatively small amount, we can go a long way to solving that problem.

:09:34.:09:38.

Nobody expected the new Welsh law to lead to a really big increase in the

:09:39.:09:43.

number of donors, but what effect it has had will become clearer next

:09:44.:09:45.

A guard of honour has been provided for a body discovered in the ruins

:09:46.:09:49.

of the collapsed Didcot Power Station.

:09:50.:09:51.

Three workers, including Christopher Huxtable from Swansea,

:09:52.:09:53.

have been missing under the rubble for six months.

:09:54.:09:55.

Thames Valley Police say their families have been informed.

:09:56.:09:59.

The person has not yet been formally identified

:10:00.:10:04.

Funding for two Techniquest science museums will be stopped

:10:05.:10:06.

by the Welsh Government from April 2021.

:10:07.:10:08.

Cardiff's Techniquest has already been warned it could lose its annual

:10:09.:10:11.

funding of ?85,000 by 2019, but it has been given more

:10:12.:10:15.

Its sister charity in Wrexham is set to lose its annual

:10:16.:10:22.

The number of recorded crimes involving indecent images

:10:23.:10:29.

of children in Wales has more than trebled in

:10:30.:10:31.

The figures were obtained by the charity, the NSPCC.

:10:32.:10:37.

It's calling for social media sites and governments to do more

:10:38.:10:40.

It can appear fun, harmless and a bit of a joke. But sexting can have

:10:41.:11:02.

serious consequences. Photos can end up in the wrong hands. A Freedom of

:11:03.:11:09.

information request showed that the number of reported offences

:11:10.:11:11.

involving indecent images of children here had significantly

:11:12.:11:17.

increased. Gwent Police provided figures for 2015, but the other

:11:18.:11:21.

three forces in Wales, showed an annual treble. The charity says it

:11:22.:11:30.

is a real cause for concern. You would not invite a perfect

:11:31.:11:34.

stranger to have a conversation with your child. There are risks around

:11:35.:11:40.

the Internet with a doing that inadvertently without understanding

:11:41.:11:43.

that is what is happening. South Wales Police have the highest

:11:44.:11:48.

number of cases of this type, they have been victorious cases including

:11:49.:11:53.

the disgraced lost Prophets singer, Ian Watkins who was jailed for child

:11:54.:11:58.

sex offences and possessing indecent pictures and Gareth Williams, jailed

:11:59.:12:02.

for 34 counts of making and possessing indecent images of

:12:03.:12:05.

children. I will from the headlines there is a call for more education.

:12:06.:12:11.

This doctor runs a nonprofit making company which modes online safety.

:12:12.:12:17.

Its key that parents get involved and create a culture of support,

:12:18.:12:22.

they get to know the services children are using and think about

:12:23.:12:27.

the time should give, the age where it is appropriate to give

:12:28.:12:32.

smartphones to their children. It is about being involved, making sure

:12:33.:12:36.

that children understand the risks. In an era when more and more of our

:12:37.:12:41.

life is conducted on social media online abuse is bound to rise. The

:12:42.:12:46.

NSPCC says the figures are a wake-up call for parents, police and

:12:47.:12:47.

call for parents, police and politicians.

:12:48.:12:48.

She won Gold in Rio, now cyclist, Elinor Barker,

:12:49.:12:52.

joins us in the studio to talk about how to inspire more people

:12:53.:12:55.

And the weather's going to go up and down a few gears

:12:56.:12:59.

Some rain, some sunshine but don't write-off the weekend.

:13:00.:13:04.

I'll have the full forecast in about 10 minutes time.

:13:05.:13:16.

Campaigners are pleading with the Welsh Government

:13:17.:13:20.

to save a former colliery site in Torfaen after 40

:13:21.:13:36.

Our environment correspondent is by the River Wye tonight. It looks

:13:37.:13:43.

lovely there. That's right. Encouraging signs for a species was

:13:44.:13:47.

last remaining stronghold here in Wales is this river behind me. The

:13:48.:13:54.

river Wye, flowing through Monmouthshire is important for a

:13:55.:13:56.

whole range of different creatures. 30 different fish is can be found

:13:57.:14:04.

here. When it comes to one breed of crayfish they are just about holding

:14:05.:14:09.

on here, but will have died out completely by 2030. They are a

:14:10.:14:13.

keystone species which means that if they did become extinct it will have

:14:14.:14:18.

a big knock an impact on a whole range of other organisms living in

:14:19.:14:23.

our rivers. It may be small but experts say this crayfish is a big

:14:24.:14:26.

indicator of a healthy river habitat.

:14:27.:14:31.

For decades now it's been in decline. And that this laboratory in

:14:32.:14:35.

Cardiff they are looking into why. Pollution and climate change have

:14:36.:14:39.

played their part, but ultimately this is a tale of crustacean

:14:40.:14:42.

invasion. Here we keep some non-native

:14:43.:14:48.

species, for example, this one here. They North American and the carry

:14:49.:14:55.

crayfish plague. The crayfish plague is fatal to native crayfish.

:14:56.:15:01.

The team are investigating why the crayfish has spread so quickly and

:15:02.:15:05.

potential ways of controlling the population. Having escaped from

:15:06.:15:09.

crayfish runs in the 80s this North American invader has wreaked havoc

:15:10.:15:15.

bringing the native writer to the brink of extinction. Native species

:15:16.:15:19.

are so vulnerable that we have to take special precautionary measures

:15:20.:15:23.

to be able to see them. The there is that they could be wiped out

:15:24.:15:28.

completely in 20 or 30 years. Experts say we need direct action in

:15:29.:15:34.

our rivers and streams. The River Wye and distributor is one of the

:15:35.:15:38.

last remaining strongholds for these crayfish in Britain. It is clear

:15:39.:15:42.

that a number of secret sites that natural resources Wales, the body in

:15:43.:15:46.

charge of the environment is attempting to boost surviving

:15:47.:15:48.

populations. We produced 4000 juveniles. They are

:15:49.:15:55.

carefully selected sites, headwaters, catchments. They are

:15:56.:16:01.

affected by natural barriers so the discrete from any possible invasion

:16:02.:16:06.

by the North American crayfish will stop and successful has it been?

:16:07.:16:10.

We we visited a number of the sites, we've found crayfish at 12 months

:16:11.:16:18.

and 24 months. We know they are surviving and moving in the right

:16:19.:16:21.

direction. There is growing interest in this

:16:22.:16:25.

project across the UK according to enter RW, but it is just a stopgap

:16:26.:16:29.

whilst more effective ways are dealing with the invasive crayfish

:16:30.:16:34.

species and the plague it carries developed. Cardiff University's

:16:35.:16:38.

research is said to be presented at an international crayfish symposium

:16:39.:16:41.

later this month. As the race to save one of our

:16:42.:16:48.

iconic river species goes on. And it is a race against time. One measure

:16:49.:16:53.

being encouraged by natural resources Wales is for people who

:16:54.:17:00.

use rivers and streams to check, clean and dry their equipment after

:17:01.:17:04.

they've been in the river or stream to prevent the spread of crayfish

:17:05.:17:08.

plague. There are hopeful signs when it comes to the future of white claw

:17:09.:17:13.

crayfish, but still a long way to go before they are out of danger. Thank

:17:14.:17:16.

Campaigners are pleading with the Welsh Government

:17:17.:17:18.

to save a former colliery site in Torfaen after 40

:17:19.:17:21.

The local council is asking for up to ?4 million to regenerate the site

:17:22.:17:25.

in Talywain known as 'The British' claiming that this could be the last

:17:26.:17:28.

chance to act, after private sector plans failed.

:17:29.:17:30.

The British named after the 19th-century ironworks still buried

:17:31.:17:47.

here. This was the impression of this building decided by an

:17:48.:17:52.

architect called Britain who designed Hyde Park and the wedding

:17:53.:17:57.

march in London. His work here at The British hasn't aged with nearly

:17:58.:18:01.

as much dignity. This is the entirety of the site.

:18:02.:18:06.

Each dot represents a mine shaft. The area is peppered with them.

:18:07.:18:11.

Expensive for any potential developer to make safe.

:18:12.:18:13.

It's not the kind of thing you want to build houses on.

:18:14.:18:17.

The only option seriously considered has been opencast mining.

:18:18.:18:22.

We've been living under the cloud of this threat of opencast, the area

:18:23.:18:27.

has been held back economically because of this constant that.

:18:28.:18:30.

People don't want to move into the area.

:18:31.:18:35.

Torfaen council is under pressure to do something to halt this decline.

:18:36.:18:39.

Its meeting with the Welsh government today to ask for up to ?4

:18:40.:18:43.

million to buy this land and replace the old cold tip with ponds for

:18:44.:18:48.

hydroelectric power, a small housing development would be built away from

:18:49.:18:52.

the mineshafts and the land could be managed as a nature reserve.

:18:53.:18:56.

We'd like to see it put back into public amenity, we'd like the small

:18:57.:19:01.

amount of safety issues sorted out to allow the place to be managed and

:19:02.:19:04.

improved. We want to attract people in.

:19:05.:19:08.

Torfaen council says the plan is well developed on the private sector

:19:09.:19:13.

failed to do anything with this land for 40 years. If no deal is struck

:19:14.:19:16.

the site will go to public auction again next month.

:19:17.:19:17.

Let's get tonight's sport now with Tomos.

:19:18.:19:21.

Wales defender, Chris Gunter, says striker Hal Robson-Kanu is now

:19:22.:19:24.

settled after signing for West Brom on deadline day and is backing him

:19:25.:19:27.

Robson-Kanu impressed at Euro 2016 scoring this memorable goal.

:19:28.:19:35.

Gunter says having another team-mate playing in the premier league

:19:36.:19:38.

It's a good move for him, you know, he was waiting for the right

:19:39.:19:53.

opportunity to come up. Yes, it's good that he's settled and once the

:19:54.:19:58.

Wales game is done next week he can get back to the club and kick on.

:19:59.:20:04.

We've always said that it's good for Welsh football, the squad and this

:20:05.:20:07.

team when we have players playing at the top level.

:20:08.:20:08.

Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny says he'll be available for the Lions

:20:09.:20:11.

tour of New Zealand next summer after Toulon confirmed he can

:20:12.:20:14.

There had been doubts whether Halfpenny would be released

:20:15.:20:17.

because the end of the season in France clashes with the tour.

:20:18.:20:20.

They're the people who make things happen, but rarely

:20:21.:20:25.

Well, tonight, BBC Cymru Wales is looking for a Sports Unsung Hero

:20:26.:20:31.

This year we've got an Olympic Champion to help us.

:20:32.:20:36.

After winning Gold on the track in Rio cyclist Elinor Barker

:20:37.:20:39.

returned to her old club to catch-up with her first coach

:20:40.:20:41.

who got her involved in the sport, he is Elinor's unsung hero.

:20:42.:20:53.

I'm just back at my first club, Maendy Flyers, where it all started

:20:54.:20:56.

I'm just going to show them my medal, and surprise

:20:57.:21:03.

them, hopefully, somebody will notice me!

Elinor Barker, Olympic gold medallist, I think that deserves a

Alun Davies voluntarily gives up his time to

:21:14.:21:26.

help others, not expecting anything in return.

:21:27.:21:29.

Three nights a week coaching cyclists, fixing and

:21:30.:21:35.

He first helped Elinor the age of ten.

:21:36.:21:38.

He just went above and Beyond all the time.

:21:39.:21:45.

He lives down the road from me and I just rocked up at any

:21:46.:21:51.

time of the night and say, I've got a problem with this, or I'm worried

:21:52.:21:54.

Or what you think about this piece of equipment?

:21:55.:21:58.

You get a huge amount of fun watching what

:21:59.:22:03.

these kids to, watching what they can achieve, giving them an

:22:04.:22:05.

opportunity to be the best they can be.

:22:06.:22:09.

So, do you know someone who is

:22:10.:22:11.

We are looking for Wales's unsung sporting hero.

:22:12.:22:16.

If you know someone who is 18 or over, on the 1st of January who fits

:22:17.:22:20.

the bill, and would like more details, or perhaps to nominate them

:22:21.:22:23.

But hurry, nominations close before midnight on Sunday the 23rd

:22:24.:22:35.

Eleanor is with us. Let's see that gold medal then, Olympic champion.

:22:36.:22:57.

Has its own in yet? Not at all. I went to my first club the other day,

:22:58.:23:02.

and it sank in a little bit then but I've come back to a bit of normality

:23:03.:23:07.

as well. It's all got a bit more normal.

:23:08.:23:13.

It's closer to sinking in. And Welsh cyclist, punches above their weight

:23:14.:23:18.

on the world stage, Luke Rowe, Geraint Thomas, Becky James and

:23:19.:23:26.

yourself, what is the secret? We are so lucky that we've got me

:23:27.:23:31.

indeed just done the road, the outdoor track and Newport about half

:23:32.:23:36.

an hour away. So, if you are nervous about going onto roads, will don't

:23:37.:23:40.

want your child out on the road you've got all these facilities, and

:23:41.:23:44.

all of these sessions. Obviously there's clubs and coaches that breed

:23:45.:23:50.

of the facilities and it gets bigger and bigger and snowballs.

:23:51.:23:56.

A gold medallist at just 21, what is next for you?

:23:57.:24:00.

I'm on a break at the moment. I'm doing a little bit of training, but

:24:01.:24:05.

nothing serious. I'm going on a holiday soon and then I start

:24:06.:24:09.

seriously training again in October ready for the world in April.

:24:10.:24:15.

William considered ditching the team? I've not decided yet. I'd like

:24:16.:24:20.

to do some individual events, I've sacrificed that over the last two

:24:21.:24:25.

years, but I love the team pursuit. I've not decided yet.

:24:26.:24:32.

I know you've just come from the studios for a question of sport, how

:24:33.:24:37.

was that? How has life changed? I think,

:24:38.:24:41.

again, it feels like it's completely changed, and filming A Question Of

:24:42.:24:49.

Sport was surreal. I didn't know anything so I wasn't helpful! But

:24:50.:24:53.

then again when you with your family it's like nothing has changed all.

:24:54.:24:59.

Congratulations once again and thanks for coming to see us.

:25:00.:25:02.

Let's get the latest weather forecast for Wales now with Derek.

:25:03.:25:06.

Today is the start of meteorological autumn.

Looking back, summer this year was nothing to write home about.
