Good evening. The last day of the month did very little to change the

:00:10.:00:13.

overall statistics that we brought you last night, that August has

:00:13.:00:16.

been a fairly dull month, lacking in sunshine. As we head into

:00:16.:00:19.

September, I can offer you something a bit brighter. We should

:00:19.:00:23.

see more sunshine, particularly in the south, and where the sun shines

:00:23.:00:28.

it will turn quite a bit warmer. That said it's chilly overnight. We

:00:28.:00:32.

have a fairly extensive blanket of cloud. Most of us having a dry

:00:32.:00:35.

night. Where we get breaks in the cloud, temperatures drop down,

:00:35.:00:39.

certainly to single figures in a few places. A coolish start to

:00:39.:00:42.

Thursday. Again, it is going to be a mostly cloudy day, but

:00:42.:00:45.

particularly in parts of the south- west we should have some sunshine.

:00:45.:00:49.

There was some here today. I'm optimistic there will be more blue

:00:49.:00:53.

sky here tomorrow. Most of Wales also started the day dry and bright

:00:53.:00:56.

with sunshine. It's as we head further north that we've got again

:00:56.:01:00.

a lot of cloud covering Northern Ireland. Here and there, a hint of

:01:00.:01:04.

brightness, but mostly it will be rather grey. Same goes for Scotland.

:01:04.:01:08.

Begun a lot of cloud sitting around, most places will be dry, but just

:01:08.:01:12.

rather drab start to Thursday. Perhaps one or two breaks in the

:01:12.:01:15.

cloud across parts of the east. Most of northern England, much of

:01:15.:01:19.

the Midlands and East Anglia starting dry but grey. Further

:01:19.:01:24.

south, we're most likely to see a bit of sunshine. As we go through

:01:24.:01:27.

the day there won't be a great deal of change. Southern counties of

:01:27.:01:31.

England, Wales, maybe the Midlands seeing good spells of sunshine.

:01:31.:01:34.

Elsewhere sunshine in short supply. Parts of north-east England and

:01:34.:01:37.

Scotland may tend to brighten up. But that sunshine really makes all

:01:37.:01:40.

the difference to the temperatures. Where it stays grey, we'll be stuck

:01:41.:01:47.

in the mid-teens. In the sunshine, though, easily 21 in the south. The

:01:47.:01:51.

vast majority have a dry day on Thursday, thanks to the area of

:01:51.:01:55.

high pressure. However, it is being ousted over the next few days by

:01:55.:01:58.

this weather front, tied into an interesting area of low pressure.

:01:58.:02:02.

This contains the remnants of Irene. Now that storm isn't heading

:02:02.:02:05.

anywhere near us, but this weather front will dangle down and bring

:02:05.:02:08.

rain, particularly on Thursday night across Scotland, a bit of

:02:08.:02:11.

light rain over northern England and North Wales for a time on

:02:11.:02:15.

Friday. Then more rain may return to the North West later on. For

:02:15.:02:18.

most of England and Wales it's a sunny and warmer day. 25 is

:02:18.:02:22.
