morning? The coldest night of the winter so far in England. Down to

minus 8 Celsius. But widely, the temperatures below freezing. Through

the night, cloud and rain, so temperatures for many holding up

above freezing. The slightly less cold theme to continue into the

weekend. But cloudy and at times with drizzle. More on that in a

moment. Through the night a southerly wind to drive in cloud and

rain over Northern Isles and Scotland. A frost to start with but

the cloud arriving from the west, perhaps just the far south-east

staying with frost and clearer skies and possibly patchy fog. Here the

temperatures below freezing but milder in the north-west with nine

or 10 Celsius. Rain, heavy through Northern Ireland and Western

Scotland, drifting eastwards. After a dry start in eastern Scotland,

rain to come. Light and patchy to begin with over north-west England

and Wales. Cloud in the northern Midlands and Wales, here is the

patchy fog, some of it freezing in the London area in the morning.

There should be sunshine as well, becoming hazy in the afternoon but

dry in the south-east for much of the day. The wet and breezy weather

drifting eastwards. Colder here at four to six Celsius but 11 Celsius

is not out of question over Northern Ireland by the middle of the

afternoon. The wet weather sinking south Friday to Saturday morning,

leaving behind mist and hill fog. The bitterly cold air sitting over

Eastern Europe through the weekend. Daytime highs close to the Balkans

minus 10 as opposed to on the plus side for us. But not a great feel

over the weekend. Cloud around and thick enough for drizzle from time

to time. Five to 12 Celsius but it could be worse. A theme as we move

to Sunday. A good deal of dry weather, cloudy with temperatures

peaking at 10 Celsius. Into Monday it looks like there could be gales

and heavy rain pushing down the south and the east through the
