Away from Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean, our weather has probably

been the quietest of the week but things are about to turn more active

towards the weekend relatively speaking. A little bump in the

isobars, a ridge of high pressure keeping most places dry today but

low-pressure waiting in the wings and more to come across the weekend

as I will show you. Overnight, more cloud pushing into western areas and

a few outbreaks of rain and showers. The East will stay mainly dry with

clear spells. This is where we will find the lowest amateurs, into

north-east Scotland, into single figures, most of us around 10-14.

Tomorrow, the story turns cloudier and wetter from the West. But first

thing, still very promising, south-west England and Wales, a few

showers around and spots of rain, some places starting dry and a

further east, as you can see, east of the Pennines, some sunshine to

begin the day so pleasant start but north-west England, some showers,

Northern Ireland plenty of cloud with outbreaks of rain moving

through during the day, not necessarily all day. Scotland quite

wet to begin with, especially in the north-west with the wind picking up

and outbreaks of rains south-eastwards during the day but

it will always be most persistent and heavy in the West. More rain

heads through Northern Ireland, into north-west England in the afternoon,

some crossing the Pennines, patchy rain for Wales and south-west

England and later the West Midlands, but East Midlands, East Anglia and

the south-east, increasing cloud, maybe a shower but many places will

stay dry and get the highest temperatures. Cloud, rain and wind

picking up, around 14 Celsius in the north-west. If you stay dry by day,

there chance of a shower or outbreaks of rain on Thursday

evening and evening and night and on Friday, we could well see a

slow-moving weather front across southern England and South Wales

giving a longer spell of perhaps heavy rain for a time and north of

that, sunshine and also heavy showers, perhaps with thunder all

hail. Looking into the weekend, low-pressure in control and plenty

more showers around during what will be a cool weekend with the wind

picking up. Many parts of the South and south-west at the risk of severe

gales, Sunday night into Monday. We will keep around that. That pales

into insignificance compared with what is happening at the moment in

the Caribbean with Hurricane Irma, now Puerto Rico and tomorrow,

heading to the Dominican Republic and still with winds up to 185 mph
