national picture.

Good evening. Tonight is not a good

night to be heading out and about.

There's some disruptive and in

places dangerous weather. There's a

red warning across parts of southern

England and South Wales. Heavy snow

continuing to fall, strong winds

making for blizzard conditions. You

can see the area covered by the red

warning but abroad and amber be

prepared warning as well. The amber

warning stretches into Northern

Ireland, north-east England and

Northern and eastern Scotland,

because through the rest of the

light snow showers will continue to

pile in. This area of snow in the

South will drift a bit further

north. It may be that we see things

turning back to rain for a time

close to the south coast, but that

could cause its own issues, that

rain falling on frozen services

could bring some really icy

conditions. Friday morning's

rush-hour could be another tricky

one. Could be rain close to the

South Coast causing icy conditions,

some patchy snow across southern

England, Midlands, Wales and

Northern Ireland and we'll have the

snow showers continuing to top up

the snowfall totals across parts of

north-east England and eastern

Scotland. The showers brought in on

a strong easterly wind and after

what could be a slightly dry spell

for a time in the south it looks

like we'll bring snow back again

later in the day. Heavy snow for the

South West and Wales, the snow

likely to be lighter the further

east you are. Wherever you are

another cold day, particularly when

we factor in the strength of the

wind. Once again it is going to feel

subzero. But this snow in the south

is giving us one or two forecasting

headaches. A bit of uncertainty

about just how far north it will get

and how heavy the snow will be as

well. Do bear in mind for places

like Birmingham, Bristol, London,

there could be some disruption for

the Friday evening rush hour. The

band of snow will drift northwards

on Saturday and we can. Still snow

showers in the north-east. Rain,

sleet and snow in the south-west.

Temperatures just beginning to nudge

upwards a little bit and that's a

trend that continues on into Sunday.

Areas of rain and sleet mostly at

lower levels by this stage but snow

over higher ground. Some sunny

spells in between. Temperatures are

bit higher, 3-9, although bear in

mind that is still below par for the

time of year. For the weekend

something slightly less cold. The
