A bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi has stood proudly in | :00:26. | :00:32.
Leicester's Golden Mile fivd years ago, a symbol of Leicester's | :00:33. | :00:36.
But it's been daubed with graffiti, upsetting the charity that | :00:37. | :00:42.
It's hugely disrespectful bdcause we can't see any reason for anx sort | :00:43. | :00:48.
This is a cohesive communitx and we had a lot of support from everybody. | :00:49. | :00:56.

Sikhs marched through London today to mark 30 years since thosd raids | :01:03. | :01:08.
and to protest about what they claimed was India's failure to | :01:09. | :01:12.
prevent the deaths of thous`nds of Sikhs in rioting that sale year. | :01:13. | :01:16.
Here, Leicestershire Police are investigating the vandalism. | :01:17. | :01:20.
We have this before but now we are going to have a serious conversation | :01:21. | :01:26.
with the authority to look `t security and safety of this area. | :01:27. | :01:30.
I think we'll be looking at CCTV, more police patrols. | :01:31. | :01:34.
A garland quickly replaced the graffiti, | :01:35. | :01:36.
symbolising peace and respect, both teachings of Mahatma G`ndhi. | :01:37. | :01:46.
150 people turned up for an illegal rave in Rutland overnight. | :01:47. | :01:49.
Police received reports of loud music and large grotps in a | :01:50. | :01:53.
Officers have worked to stop it getting any bigger, | :01:54. | :01:57.
It is a dark section of the wood and we have to deal with it frol a | :01:58. | :02:10.
safety perspective for the officers and people involved, so, as you can | :02:11. | :02:15.
see, we have the roadblocks on and that is what we have been doing all | :02:16. | :02:17.
night. A Leicestershire councillor says he | :02:18. | :02:19.
won't give up the fight agahnst a traveller site that's stood | :02:20. | :02:22.
without permission for five years. The travellers own the land | :02:23. | :02:25.
at Barlestone near Hinckley, but have been ordered to le`ve, | :02:26. | :02:27.
as Tom Brown reports. Tucked away in the Leicestershire | :02:28. | :02:35.
countryside as a traveller site generating huge controversy. They | :02:36. | :02:40.
arrived here on Good Friday back in 2009 but five years on, thex still | :02:41. | :02:44.
don't have permanent planning permission. In the nearby vhllage, | :02:45. | :02:49.
residents have complained of anti`social behaviour. And the local | :02:50. | :02:52.
councillor has been handing out leaflets, urging people to keep | :02:53. | :02:57.
fighting the site. There ard six sites in the area and they will | :02:58. | :03:01.
basically come here for what they need, and while some of thel are | :03:02. | :03:06.
probably fine and we probably don't even notice them, there are the ones | :03:07. | :03:10.
that come in and cause us trouble. This is the only sight of those six | :03:11. | :03:14.
without permanent planning permission. The traveller | :03:15. | :03:19.
application was rejected by Bosworth and Hinckley Borough councils and | :03:20. | :03:22.
said there would be an unacceptable increase in traffic and othdr birds | :03:23. | :03:26.
affect on the countryside's appearance. The travellers have | :03:27. | :03:30.
appealed and their case will now be heard in October. The vast number of | :03:31. | :03:36.
travellers realise that going through the official route hs the | :03:37. | :03:40.
way to do it. They don't want to upset people. In this day and age | :03:41. | :03:44.
people do deserve a decent place to live. It is illegal and bec`use it | :03:45. | :03:50.
hasn't got planning permisshon, if we let this one happen, we obviously | :03:51. | :03:55.
going to get more. It is a war of words that has now entered hts sixth | :03:56. | :03:59.
year and it will be another four months before we are any closer to a | :04:00. | :04:00.
final result. A church in Derby finished ten | :04:01. | :04:03.
days of non`stop prayer earlier The prayer`a`thon at | :04:04. | :04:06.
Littleover Methodist Church saw parishioners sign up for an hour | :04:07. | :04:09.
each, even through the night. It was to mark Pentecost | :04:10. | :04:12.
and ended this morning with Let's check the weather now. | :04:13. | :04:15.
Mel has our forecast. Good evening. It has been a fine day | :04:16. | :04:27.
for many places but we have had one or two showers around. | :04:28. | :04:33.
The cloud increases bringing the risk of one or two showers first | :04:34. | :04:38.
thing on Monday but it will feel quite close, with humidity rising | :04:39. | :04:43.
and overnight lows of 13. So quite a sticky day tomorrow. Lots of | :04:44. | :04:47.
sunshine around, albeit hazx, but also one or two showers, whhch could | :04:48. | :04:52.
be heavy and potentially thtndery. But in dry spells feeling pleasant | :04:53. | :04:53.
with a high of 21. More for you later than usu`l | :04:54. | :04:55.
at 10.55pm. Goodbye. Good evening. We got to 25 Celsius | :04:56. | :05:12.
this afternoon. There were some heavy showers elsewhere. Low | :05:13. | :05:17.
pressure to the west of the United Kingdom, anticlockwise winds around | :05:18. | :05:21.
that, dragging in some warm air from the near continent. The showers will | :05:22. | :05:25.
tend to fade away from Scotland and Northern Ireland overnight. Further | :05:26. | :05:32.
showers drifting up. 8.00am, in the South West, it is largely fine and | :05:33. | :05:37.
dry. Fairly warm, though. Could be 17 or 18 at 8.00am. So quite a warm | :05:38. | :05:42.
start to the day. Maybe one or two showers in the south. A much higher | :05:43. | :05:46.
chance of seeing some rain in the morning. Largely dry early on in | :05:47. | :05:50.
Northern Ireland and in Scotland. We have those showers further south. We | :05:51. | :05:53.
have the breeze coming up from the south, so we will see those showers | :05:54. | :05:57.
drifting their way northwards into | :05:58. | :05:58. |
