And now, the news for the East Midlands.

:00:11.:00:12.

We'll be live in Madrid later as Leicester's Champions League

:00:13.:00:19.

But first, two teenage boys have been sent to juvenile prison

:00:20.:00:23.

after a roof-top stand-off in Nottingham last week.

:00:24.:00:25.

the youths began to throw bricks and tiles at the police.

:00:26.:00:30.

Residents had to leave their homes to ensure their safety.

:00:31.:00:33.

This was the scene that greeted riot police when they arrived in

:00:34.:00:39.

Cloister Street in Nottingham last Wednesday morning.

:00:40.:00:42.

Bricks and tiles were being thrown from a nearby rooftop.

:00:43.:00:44.

Cars were smashed with windscreens broken

:00:45.:00:47.

Some residents were evacuated, others unable to leave

:00:48.:00:55.

It was frustrating and clearly, it does

:00:56.:00:59.

have a wider impact across the city.

:01:00.:01:01.

Because whilst resources are deployed at that particular

:01:02.:01:03.

incident, it means they're not deployed elsewhere.

:01:04.:01:06.

As I say, our objective at the time was to keep

:01:07.:01:08.

people safe and the resources that were deployed there were done so

:01:09.:01:11.

Today, the two 16-year-olds, who can't be named

:01:12.:01:14.

because of their age, were sentenced

:01:15.:01:17.

to a total of 45 months in prison after pleading guilty to affray

:01:18.:01:20.

One of the youths also pleaded guilty to

:01:21.:01:24.

handling stolen goods, and the other pleaded

:01:25.:01:27.

Back in Cloister Street, and some of the damage

:01:28.:01:32.

Residents said the incident was frightening.

:01:33.:01:36.

They were throwing chimney pots and stuff off

:01:37.:01:39.

One of them hit a car, hit the windscreen, destroyed that.

:01:40.:01:44.

When the bricks started flying, and the slates,

:01:45.:01:47.

I thought, what on earth is going on?

:01:48.:01:49.

I've lived here all my life and I have

:01:50.:01:51.

The police told us to move our car and van.

:01:52.:01:55.

And then we had to move that, and within about three

:01:56.:01:58.

or four minutes of that, we start having roof tiles,

:01:59.:02:00.

we had roof tiles bouncing off the streets.

:02:01.:02:05.

The youths will have to serve half their sentence before they

:02:06.:02:07.

But police are keen to stress that incidents

:02:08.:02:11.

A Derbyshire-based company has become one of the first

:02:12.:02:20.

in the country to allow a member of staff on its board.

:02:21.:02:24.

The Shirebrook firm Sports Direct made the move in the wake of strong

:02:25.:02:28.

criticism from unions and MPs over its treatment of staff.

:02:29.:02:32.

Here's our political editor Tony Roe.

:02:33.:02:35.

In the Derbyshire HQ at Shirebrook, news of his appointment was

:02:36.:02:39.

30-year-old Alex Balacki normally runs a store in Devon.

:02:40.:02:45.

He started out doing a Saturday job about 13 years ago.

:02:46.:02:51.

Now, he will be on the board and have the ear of Mike Ashley.

:02:52.:02:54.

It is something that Mike has wanted to do

:02:55.:02:56.

And we are doing it, unveiling him, today.

:02:57.:02:59.

This has always really positive for me, being rewarded for

:03:00.:03:07.

what I do, and I'm proud of what I do.

:03:08.:03:09.

And what can you do over the next year?

:03:10.:03:11.

I just hope to make some differences, but I don't know,

:03:12.:03:14.

I'm going to be taking all the opinions of the

:03:15.:03:18.

staff and bringing that to the board meetings.

:03:19.:03:20.

Sports Direct were subjected to an expose about working

:03:21.:03:24.

conditions, particularly at its distribution centre.

:03:25.:03:25.

A Parliamentary investigation led MPs to conclude it

:03:26.:03:27.

Things have changed since then, money paid back,

:03:28.:03:32.

no "six strikes and you're out of a job" for

:03:33.:03:34.

Now, a place for a worker representing 23,000 staff

:03:35.:03:40.

Do you think you will be listened to?

:03:41.:03:44.

And I know the board of directors will,

:03:45.:03:51.

And they are all excited about Alex joining.

:03:52.:03:54.

Clearly, Sports Direct wants to improve its public image and

:03:55.:03:57.

believes that having a worker on the board of directors will go

:03:58.:04:01.

But the unions have dismissed this plan

:04:02.:04:06.

What they want is union representation,

:04:07.:04:09.

in the warehouse and in the shops.

:04:10.:04:12.

Unite, the union, says Sports Direct should be

:04:13.:04:15.

moving agency staff onto a permanent contract.

:04:16.:04:18.

The company says talks about talks with unions

:04:19.:04:20.

It's all change on our high streets,

:04:21.:04:28.

The finance firm PWC says traditional shops,

:04:29.:04:33.

especially fashion retailers, are closing but other

:04:34.:04:36.

Geeta Pendse has been finding out more.

:04:37.:04:42.

Obviously, they come in three mg and six mg.

:04:43.:04:46.

The fastest-growing retail sector in the East Midlands, the

:04:47.:04:48.

popularity of vaping has seen a rise in tobacconists

:04:49.:04:51.

estate agents, health clubs and

:04:52.:04:58.

That is according to research by PWC.

:04:59.:05:06.

It is a different picture for fashions shops, with department

:05:07.:05:08.

stores and women's clothing hardest-hit.

:05:09.:05:11.

In 2016, 353 shops close across the East Midlands.

:05:12.:05:16.

That is the equivalent of almost one every day.

:05:17.:05:20.

That compares with 289 opening, which is a net reduction

:05:21.:05:22.

The overall trend is still that stores are closing, and that is

:05:23.:05:29.

as consumers continue to move online to shop on the Internet.

:05:30.:05:33.

But actually, the East Midlands is doing better

:05:34.:05:35.

And I think that reflects the strength of

:05:36.:05:38.

They are making it so easy, though, aren't they?

:05:39.:05:48.

Because you don't really need to leave your home.

:05:49.:05:52.

A lot of big stores have been replaced

:05:53.:05:57.

by large fitness centres and new gyms.

:05:58.:05:58.

They seem to be taking the weight of more leisure

:05:59.:06:01.

activities rather than sort of retail and shopping.

:06:02.:06:02.

When it comes our cities, Leicester continues to

:06:03.:06:05.

Derby, however, has seen the highest number

:06:06.:06:09.

We've got a really strong, independent retail sector in Derby.

:06:10.:06:16.

The Cathedral Quarter won the best British high street

:06:17.:06:19.

The Intu centre is doing incredibly well.

:06:20.:06:27.

The research shows a buoyant economy in the East Midlands,

:06:28.:06:30.

but there is no doubt the growth of online shopping and

:06:31.:06:32.

changing consumer trends is radically changing the way we use

:06:33.:06:35.

Scientists studying lung conditions have taken part in developing

:06:36.:06:46.

a phone app for asthma sufferers, to help them manage their condition.

:06:47.:06:50.

A team from the Nottingham Respiratory Research Unit,

:06:51.:06:53.

based at the University of Nottingham, worked

:06:54.:06:55.

with a leading pharmaceutical company to create the app.

:06:56.:06:58.

Called MyAsthma, it allows people to record

:06:59.:07:01.

information about what seems to trigger their problems.

:07:02.:07:05.

Carers can also use it to log up to five

:07:06.:07:07.

Developing something that helps people understand their asthma

:07:08.:07:13.

triggers, improve their knowledge of their asthma and allows them to

:07:14.:07:19.

provide information for their asthma nurse or their GP is a real step

:07:20.:07:22.

forward to improve asthma control in these people.

:07:23.:07:26.

where Leicester City's progress in the Champions League

:07:27.:07:29.

is left on a knife-edge after a 1-0 defeat.

:07:30.:07:34.

Natalie Jackson is at the Stadium Visente Calderon.

:07:35.:07:45.

far from downhearted, proud of their far from downhearted, proud of their

:07:46.:07:52.

team who battled hard to stay in this tie. After all, the other team

:07:53.:08:00.

had been in this competition twice in the last three years and

:08:01.:08:04.

Leicester City were only undone by a controversial penalty.

:08:05.:08:09.

The players and the replays suggested otherwise.

:08:10.:08:15.

After being under pressure for most of the first half-hour, it was a

:08:16.:08:18.

Leicester were defending well, and as the game

:08:19.:08:21.

went on, even created their own chances, however slim.

:08:22.:08:25.

But mostly, it was about stopping the Spanish

:08:26.:08:27.

team and staying in the tie whatever it took.

:08:28.:08:30.

At the final whistle, a defensive job,

:08:31.:08:31.

The police say Leicester fans were involved in acts of vandalism.

:08:32.:08:41.

Supporters say the police badly overreacted.

:08:42.:08:44.

The trip to Madrid has been a harsh one.

:08:45.:08:46.

In the press conference, the manager has just said that, we were

:08:47.:09:07.

definitely hard done by when the penalty was given. With that sense

:09:08.:09:11.

of injustice and a noisy home crowd, back at the stadium in six days'

:09:12.:09:20.

time, the European dream could still be alive.

:09:21.:09:24.

Last-minute preparations are being made at Leicester Cathedral ahead

:09:25.:09:26.

A team of florists have decorated the building with hundreds

:09:27.:09:29.

of flowers and security checks are being made.

:09:30.:09:31.

The Queen will take part in the Maundy service,

:09:32.:09:33.

traditionally celebrated on the Thursday before Easter.

:09:34.:09:35.

Her Majesty will give 91 local men and women Maundy money.

:09:36.:09:38.

Thousands of people are expected in the city and organisers

:09:39.:09:40.

are warning that some roads will be closed.

:09:41.:09:42.

So, it's goodbye from me - but with your weather now,

:09:43.:09:46.

We have if feud is a typical spring weather ahead. Some rain, some

:09:47.:10:01.

showers, but also some sunnier spells. Thank you to our weather

:10:02.:10:05.

watchers for sending in those pictures. Still a bit of a tussle

:10:06.:10:08.

between high pressure to the south and low to the north. Likely to

:10:09.:10:16.

bring some showroom rain. As with the -- as we look at the detail over

:10:17.:10:20.

the next few days, some queries skies, temperatures will fall over

:10:21.:10:25.

broad areas in the cities, temperatures of around six Celsius.

:10:26.:10:32.

The day will clear tomorrow, we'll see if you showers over the region.

:10:33.:10:39.

Temperatures around 12 Celsius, likely to feel a little chilly with

:10:40.:10:43.

the westerly breeze. As we look ahead to Friday, a bit of a messy

:10:44.:10:47.

picture. We have some showers in the mix, highs around 12 Celsius and

:10:48.:10:54.

going towards Easter, a springtime mix of sunshine and showers on the

:10:55.:11:01.

way. I will review with the outlook, next up,

:11:02.:11:01.

Brighter on Saturday but cloud again on Sunday. Here is Tomasz.

:11:02.:11:11.

Good evening. The weather in the run-up to

:11:12.:11:12.

Christmas... Easter!
