There was extra security in place today as thousands of runners took

to the capital's streets for a 10K race.

Organisers say last minute changes were made to arrangements,

following the Manchester bombing - in collaboration with the

United they run. A week ago today Londoners woke up to news of the

Manchester attack. Today they still turned

out in their thousands undeterred, to pound

the streets of the capital. It made us even more

determined, I think, to come And I think the

in Manchester, over 12,000 runners turned out today

for the London Vitality 10K, snaking their way through some

of London's most historic sites before crossing

the finish line here in front of But of course the safety

of everyone taking part today was uppermost in the minds

of the organisers. We had a full security review

with the mayor's office, the Metropolitan Police, the city

of Westminster, all the agencies. The Royal Parks, everyone working

together, a lot of security has been Because in essence that actually

reduces the security if you Today's race which began with

a minutes silence in memory of last week's attack, went

off without a hitch. With just over a week to go before

the general election- BBC London has visited one

of our key battlegrounds. Carshalton and Wallington

was the only seat in London that the Liberal Democrats

won in 2015. So will their message on Brexit

bring victory again? Or will local issues

be more important? Welcome to the constituency

of Carshalton and Warrington, on the Surrey border where most

people voted Leave. It is one of the tightest

marginals in London. But will it be bins or Brexit

that decide it here? This is an incinerator

which is going to be burning It is rubbish that concerns

the Green candidate. As this incinerator nears completion

in the north of the constituency. It is a really big issue because

imagine if you live around here. I was chatting to a resident earlier

today and she was telling me that she owns her house,

and what are the chances of her selling her house

with that here now? The value of the property

has come down. I feel so sorry for people

living around here. So will those who live nearby be

tempted to vote Green? As we were filming, Karen Baldwin

and her daughter passed by. It was not at all what we

were led to believe. I really feel that we have been

betrayed along the way. Will that change how you vote,

would you consider voting Green? The thing is, with the Green Party,

as much as you might have our best interests at heart,

no one listens. Well locally it is a conservative

Lib Dem marginal constituency. If enough people actually realised

that the Green candidate that took on the council standing,

we could actually get enough votes to be able to challenge those

two parties as well. New bin collections from the local

Liberal Democrat council have There are also concerns that

services at the local The MP for the last 20 years has

been the Liberal Democrat Tom brake. At the last election he got

just 1510 votes more The bins issue is one that

has not been helpful, but what we are starting to see

is a decline in the level of complaints associated

with the new contract. But there are other issues that

I think play much more significantly in people's minds

and that is the future of our local hospital, St Helier Hospital,

where I have a track record of over 25 years of campaigning

for that hospital. And Ukip now are not putting

up a candidate here. The Tory candidate,

who also voted remain, says he will be much tougher

with the local council. One of my campaign issues has been

to give the council a bit of a kick when it does not provide people

with the kind of services We have had the same council

in control here for more than 30 years and the Liberal Democrat MP

I'm up against is So he finds it perhaps difficult

to give them the kick they need Labour also achieved

around 7000 votes in 2015. I think it's going be about Brexit

and other national issues. I think it is going to be

about the NHS as well. There is a big local issue in terms

of St Helier Hospital and they feel they need somebody to speak

up for them. But other local issues

might play their part of candidates standing in Carshalton

and Wallington on your screen now. There's plenty more information

about the election- and your local constituency-

on our website. Londoners are being asked not

to feed the birds in Regent's Park- following fears it could be linked

to cases of inbreeding- The park has one of the largest

Grey Heron colonies in the capital. There is a mystery bird feeder

who is dishing up unconventional food for these herons

in Regents Park. This is one of the areas

where you will see a lot of people putting food out for the geese

and the ducks and for the herons. And notoriously,

lots of curried rice. That's been a big problem

here because it has just been It has been appearing regularly

beside the water's edge and eaten by the birds,

who are getting fat. There are now concerns

about possible genetic mutation. Because they are so laden,

they're not really flying off and exploring other areas

so they are becoming And the problem is if they do become

isolated then they do not manage to meet other herons from other

colonies and interbreed. You end up with a very small

gene pool and generation after generation after generation,

that can lead to deformities. This island here in Regents Park

is a heronry and home to around 20 It is one of the largest grey heron

colonies in the whole of London. But it is not just here where bird

feeding is causing a problem. Over in Richmond Park

it is also a concern. After a while they get to recognise

you. Royal Parks actually benefit

from 77 million visitors And you can imagine if each of us

just brings a little handful of food for the birds,

that is just far too Back in Regents Park

the mystery of the curried rice Let's turn now to a check

on the weather with Wendy. We had a bit of everything this

weekend. These pictures tell the story really well. We started on

Saturday with beautiful sunshine. Then on Sunday very threatening

skies in places and today something in between. We had some heavy

showers today. This evening it remains cloudy and relatively warm

and humid. Still some showers around this evening, moving up towards the

north-east. So for most of the night it will become dry with some cloud

around and temperatures slowly falling back to around 14, 15

degrees. Then we're back to work tomorrow or back to school and there

may be some showers at first. Then for the rest of the day it looks

like it will be dry. Some breaks in the crowd, so this post listing

temperatures into the low 20s for London. If you love the Sunshine

bent on Wednesday is your day, barely a cloud in the sky on

Wednesday. And that helped to lift the damages to 21 degrees. This is

because high pressure is building and the wind will be light as well.

Then looking at the outlook, temperatures picking up again

through Thursday and Friday, plenty of sunshine, 24, 20 5 degrees. There

could be some rain passing through overnight into Saturday, we need to

watch that but that would freshen things up a bit. An interesting bank
