Good evening. First tonight it's been described by

police as the worst case of vigilantism they've ever sedn ` like

a scene from a Hollywood film. Eleven members of the same family

kidnapped and tortured a cotple they wrongly believed murdered their

elderly relative. Today those family members were jailed for a total of

60 years. The pregnant woman and her partner were held against their will

and beaten in an attempt to extract confessions. Our home affairs

correspondent Sally Chidzoy was in court to hear today's verdicts.

Behind bars tonight, members of a family fixated on revenge. They are

the daughters, grandchildren, great`grandchildren and a

daughter`in`law of Gertrude Frankham, the widow and matriarch of

the family. She had been married to Eli Frankham, often describdd as

king of the gypsies. Gertrude was found dead in her bed in 2002. The

family were convinced she h`d been murdered. They kidnapped thd man

they thought was responsibld and his heavily pregnant partner. They beat

the couple and filmed at all. There was blood on her face. She was very

distressed. She was heavily pregnant at the time. The people within the

film were forcing her to sax what they wanted her to say. She would

have been in fear for her own life, as well as the safety of her unborn

child. Police were alerted `fter Gertrude's daughter Sheila Conboy

dialled 999 to tell police they had a confession after beating the

woman. Police investigated the famhly's

murder allegations. Gertrudd's body was it seemed from Wisbech

Cemetery. Two pathologists dxamined her remains. Police concluddd she

died from natural causes. Whth the phone call and the footage of the

torch and kidnap, it was thd family who ended up in the dock. Sdntencing

the 11 defendants to a total of 60 years in jail, the judge sahd they

were a family who saw themsdlves as being above the law. They ilposed

their own law. They punched, kicked and dragged the male victim into a

warehouse and forced him into a chair. It was a scene reminhscent,

he said, of some vile Hollywood film. The family still insist

Gertrude was murdered. She will get her justice. The Norfolk police know

who her murder is. None of the family showed any remorse on being

jailed. The Deputy Prime Minister Nhck Clegg

was in Cambridge today talkhng up the benefits of City Deal status.

That's the funding for the region which could be worth up to ` billion

pounds. He took a tour around the science park, something he says the

money will build on to ensure that the city continues to be a lagnet

for high tech companies. It is a formula the governmdnt hopes

will create jobs. The Deputx Prime Minister was given a tour of a

laboratory which tests new medicines. It is businesses like

this which the government hopes will flourish through the city Ddal

status. Cambridge said this is what we want, we want this money to

improve housing and develop more apprenticeships and have money to

deal with the bottlenecks locally. It comes on top of the monex which

has already been announced for significant improvements on the A1

for. So what is the City De`l? It could be worth ?1 billion to

Cambridgeshire. A government grant of 500 million with local

authorities expected to match it. Only the first ?100 million of

government money is guarantded. The last two chunks are due in 2019 and

2024 and are subject to agrdement. The money will be spent on roads,

public transport and cycling links. When local business leaders looked

closely at the detail, not `ll were impressed. Some said it would barely

touch the region's infrastrtcture needs. We really feel the chty Deal

is inadequate to deal with the problems we have. We have s`id, is

it a real Deal or a raw deal. We feel it is the latter. I don't

agree. Whenever you make an announcement like this, people say

it does not go far enough btt it is going a lot further than it is at

the moment. ?1 billion is mtch better than ?0. Mr Clegg's visit

Cambridge came a day after the TV debate on Europe with the UKIP

leader Nigel Farage. But today a different debate right here in our

region. Is the City Deal good enough to keep Cambridge as a world`class

hub for science and technology? Police in Milton Keynes havd been

distributing CCTV images tonight of a teenager who's gone missing from

Milton Keynes. Cailey`Ann P`yne who is 16, left Milton Keynes r`ilway

station last wednesday evenhng. Police believe she was last seen

with friends in London on S`turday. They're growing increasinglx

concerned for her welfare. There are several reasons why we are

concerned. It is seven days. We know she does not have much access to

money. And the other concern we have is she's on her own now. We know

that she was with a friend. She was with a friend until Saturdax

morning. But since that timd, she has been on her own.

In Rugby Union Northampton Saints are through to the semi`fin`ls of

the Challenge Cup after a whn against Sale. This try by Bdn Foden
