Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North. | :00:00. | :00:00.
The Lincolnshire fighter jets preparing to patrol the skies | :00:00. | :00:11.
It is not in response to any specific threat but a component of | :00:12. | :00:24.
how Nato supports its allies. Ukip | :00:25. | :00:28.
representatives say they're still relevant despite their only MP | :00:29. | :00:30.
leaving the party. How'd you can get your ticket to | :00:31. | :00:46.
Radio 1's Big Weekend. Sun-macro it is a world-class festival and if you | :00:47. | :00:50.
compare it to Reading and Leeds, it is still representing really good | :00:51. | :00:51.
money. Scunthorpe United win a thriller | :00:52. | :00:54.
over a promotion rival but what will it mean | :00:55. | :00:56.
for their season? After a sunny weekend, will the sun | :00:57. | :01:06.
shine this week? Join me for the weather forecast. | :01:07. | :01:17.
As one of the biggest deployment since the end of the Cold War, | :01:18. | :01:33.
equivalent and personal flying to Europe. | :01:34. | :01:40.
The RAF fighters from RAF Coningsby | :01:41. | :01:41.
will work with Romanian forces in the region. | :01:42. | :01:43.
But one expert in international diplomacy has warned that it | :01:44. | :01:46.
could lead to an escalation in tensions between | :01:47. | :01:48.
Russia and the West, as Crispin Rolfe reports. | :01:49. | :01:50.
A build up of tanks - first in the Ukraine by Russia, | :01:51. | :01:52.
An increase in tension following Russia's 2014 armed | :01:53. | :01:56.
takeover of the then Ukranian state, the Crimea. | :01:57. | :01:58.
It's a move which this year has seen a build up of forces on both sides | :01:59. | :02:02.
And one which is about to include jets, personnel and spares | :02:03. | :02:05.
Today 200 tonnes of equipment is already on its way to Romania, | :02:06. | :02:11.
from where up to six of the airbase's Typhoons | :02:12. | :02:14.
It is about reassurance. The Nato emissions show deterrent against | :02:15. | :02:33.
aggression and our ability to demonstrate collective resolve. | :02:34. | :02:37.
Sun-macro we have vehicles moving away on land and then going across | :02:38. | :02:45.
to the ports. We will be deploying the remaining attachment by air as | :02:46. | :02:46.
well. Following Russian incursions | :02:47. | :02:49.
into European air space in 2015, last year the Ministry | :02:50. | :02:51.
of Defence announced that RAF Coningsby's typhoons | :02:52. | :02:53.
would fly to Romania to help patrol the skies above Nato's Black Sea | :02:54. | :02:55.
Allies, themselves once And this month, the UK also deployed | :02:56. | :02:58.
120 troops to Estonia as part of one of the biggest | :02:59. | :03:01.
British deployments But all of this military action, | :03:02. | :03:03.
has prompted criticism, with some saying its inflaming | :03:04. | :03:08.
Russia's RAF Coningsby. -- own border fears. If you get | :03:09. | :03:26.
tension across an area, you can get mistakes. Accidents, incidents and | :03:27. | :03:32.
mavericks. You might have patrols that stray across the border and it | :03:33. | :03:37.
can lead to major problems. That is the risk of this situation and one | :03:38. | :03:42.
which in some ways has to be avoided. RAF Coningsby's role in | :03:43. | :03:48.
setting up a air base away from home would be a huge logistical exercise | :03:49. | :03:52.
but those in charge also know that the real challenge is to make sure | :03:53. | :03:57.
tensions on the border with Russia don't escalate any further. | :03:58. | :03:59.
Crispin is with me in the studio now. | :04:00. | :04:04.
How important is the role they will be playing out there? | :04:05. | :04:09.
Peter, if relations are not quite as cold between Russia and the West | :04:10. | :04:12.
Then they're certainly feeling less than summery. | :04:13. | :04:15.
So it's into this climate that those from RAF Coningsby | :04:16. | :04:17.
In some ways its diplomacy at the sharp end, but that's | :04:18. | :04:23.
bombers coming to British airspace. They are trained and they will be | :04:24. | :04:40.
looking to do that at the sharp end. Ultimately, they will be doing it a | :04:41. | :04:41.
lot closer to the Russian border. The nine-year-old who needs | :04:42. | :04:51.
thousands of pounds for a life changing operation. | :04:52. | :04:54.
A leading member of Ukip in Lincolnshire insists the Party | :04:55. | :04:57.
will bounce back "stronger than ever" following the resignation | :04:58. | :04:59.
Douglas Carswell, who's the MP for Clacton, announced on Saturday | :05:00. | :05:05.
that he would sit as an Independent in the House of Commons. | :05:06. | :05:10.
It's the latest setback for Ukip following the announcement from one | :05:11. | :05:12.
of it's main financial backers that he, too, was leaving. | :05:13. | :05:18.
But Victoria Ayling, who speaks on Tourism and Heritage, | :05:19. | :05:21.
for the party insists Ukip has a bright future. | :05:22. | :05:26.
We'll be hearing from her in a moment but first | :05:27. | :05:29.
2014 was a high point for Ukip in our area. | :05:30. | :05:37.
It won councillors and MEPs in the local and european elections. | :05:38. | :05:42.
But Ukip never gained an MP in East Yorkshire or Lincolnshire. | :05:43. | :05:46.
Now the party's only sitting MP in the country | :05:47. | :05:50.
Douglas Carswell has quit Ukip, syaing it was job done. | :05:51. | :05:57.
I went into Ukip and made the switch to get us out of the European Union. | :05:58. | :06:04.
Theresa May means Brexit is in safe hands. | :06:05. | :06:06.
But Ukip nationally has had a year of turmoil. | :06:07. | :06:09.
And some councillors in our area have left the party. | :06:10. | :06:12.
This recent defector to the Conservatives says the party | :06:13. | :06:14.
At the moment that referendum was granted by David Cameron, we were | :06:15. | :06:27.
aware that a lot of the reasons to exist have been shot out of the | :06:28. | :06:29.
water. But despite a loss of | :06:30. | :06:31.
power at Westminster, the numbers say Ukip does still have | :06:32. | :06:33.
some power in East Yorkshire It has zero MPs | :06:34. | :06:36.
but it has four MEPs, two representing Yorkshire | :06:37. | :06:39.
and the Humber, two representing the East Midlands | :06:40. | :06:41.
including Lincolnshire. And 38 local councillors | :06:42. | :06:43.
across the area. In the Autumn, Ukip Euro MPs told us | :06:44. | :06:47.
until Brexit happens, We must carry on doing our job | :06:48. | :07:03.
keeping a good eye on a lot of the legislation which we don't want and | :07:04. | :07:07.
we hope will be gone. Whilst we are not gone, it is our duty to do the | :07:08. | :07:09.
job which we were elected to do. by-election showed there | :07:10. | :07:12.
was still some appetite for Ukip, Ukip may have played | :07:13. | :07:16.
an important role in making last The question now is how | :07:17. | :07:20.
they convince the doubters that it Earlier I spoke to Victoria Ayling, | :07:21. | :07:25.
who's based in Lincolnshire and who's Ukip's spokesman | :07:26. | :07:36.
on Tourism and Heritage. I asked her how she felt | :07:37. | :07:39.
about losing the party's only MP. He was a divisive character and | :07:40. | :07:52.
caused more problems than he is worth and we never got a penny off | :07:53. | :07:56.
the short money. Most of the members now feel good riddance. We managed | :07:57. | :08:01.
to get a referendum without having an MP which was the biggest | :08:02. | :08:06.
achievement by a Nigel Farage so we don't need him. Ukip was set up 23 | :08:07. | :08:12.
years ago to get us out of the EU. That is happening now. The party is | :08:13. | :08:17.
irrelevant and not needed now. Of course we are relevant. Theresa May | :08:18. | :08:23.
is backsliding and talking about keeping the European Union arrest | :08:24. | :08:26.
warrant and talking about quotas regarding fishes -- Fishing post | :08:27. | :08:31.
Brexit. We need to keep a 200 mile limit for our fishermen and we | :08:32. | :08:36.
should draw those borders. Why does your one MP save the job is done? It | :08:37. | :08:46.
has become evident he was a Tory plant to cause problems in Ukip | :08:47. | :08:50.
which has become very apparent anti-left before he was pushed by | :08:51. | :08:55.
the NEC today. That is your view but Ukip is a shambles at the moment and | :08:56. | :09:00.
everyone is jumping ship. Douglas Carswell, Nigel Farage, it is | :09:01. | :09:07.
leaving and falling apart. Nigel was in the audience today in London | :09:08. | :09:12.
today. Aaron Banks hasn't jumped and I think you should watch this space | :09:13. | :09:18.
because we'll be back stronger than ever because somebody or some | :09:19. | :09:22.
organisation, especially Ukip, have got to hold the government to | :09:23. | :09:26.
account because the government is backsliding on Brexit and cannot be | :09:27. | :09:31.
trusted. You mentioned Paul Nuttall. He had a miserable by-election in | :09:32. | :09:38.
Stoke. Who is the better leader for your party? Is it Paul Nuttall or | :09:39. | :09:45.
Nigel Farage? You have got it inaccurate. It was a very good | :09:46. | :09:50.
second that we came in Stoke and regarding readerships, they are both | :09:51. | :09:54.
exactly as competent but they are different. Nigel Farage is an | :09:55. | :09:59.
enigma. He is unique and a charismatic leader. Paul Nuttall | :10:00. | :10:04.
hazardous way of doing things. If he wants to come back as leader and | :10:05. | :10:08.
many think he will, you would welcome mat? I have always been a | :10:09. | :10:14.
huge Nigel Farage supporter. I like the way he delivers things and I | :10:15. | :10:18.
like his policies. I believe we can go forward as a united entity under | :10:19. | :10:23.
Paul Nuttall and Nigel Farage has never left Ukip and is unlikely to. | :10:24. | :10:27.
Now we have to hold the government to account to make sure Brexit means | :10:28. | :10:32.
Brexit and we don't get the backsliding which seems apparent now | :10:33. | :10:37.
with this government. Good to talk to you tonight, thank you very much | :10:38. | :10:39.
indeed. Thank you. Is she right? Does Ukip have a | :10:40. | :10:48.
strong future? The Prime Minister tomorrow will -- on Wednesday, she | :10:49. | :10:58.
will trigger Article 50. Is that done or is there still more work for | :10:59. | :11:01.
Ukip to do? We would like your views and | :11:02. | :11:10.
comments on this. Grantham's accident and emergency | :11:11. | :11:24.
department is opening NHS bosses reduced opening times | :11:25. | :11:29.
at the hospital last summer. They say a lack of staff means | :11:30. | :11:34.
they couldn't run it safely. The department will now open | :11:35. | :11:37.
at eight o'clock and run until A motorcyclist is in a serious | :11:38. | :11:40.
condition after a crash It happened at Speedway Corner | :11:41. | :11:46.
near Ruskington on Saturday evening A 29-year-old man from | :11:47. | :11:50.
Grantham was airlifted School children in Yorkshire | :11:51. | :11:53.
and the Humber missed the most lesson-time in England last year, | :11:54. | :12:00.
because of term-time holidays. Official figures show | :12:01. | :12:03.
that in the East Riding, family holidays made up almost half | :12:04. | :12:06.
of all missed lessons. Almost a million pupils in England | :12:07. | :12:11.
missed at least one day of school. The deadline has now closed | :12:12. | :12:19.
for people wanting to run North East Lincolnshire | :12:20. | :12:21.
Council is searching for someone to run it | :12:22. | :12:24.
following funding difficulties. Past organisers say it would be sad | :12:25. | :12:27.
if no-one can be found to put Nine-year-old Maisie has cerebral | :12:28. | :12:31.
palsy and needs a walking frame Surgeons have told her parents | :12:32. | :12:45.
an operation could help But that operation is no longer | :12:46. | :12:48.
available on the NHS. So her family, who live in Hornsea, | :12:49. | :12:52.
are now trying to raise More now from our health | :12:53. | :12:55.
correspondent Vicky Johnson, and her report does have some | :12:56. | :13:00.
graphic images of surgery. Like any energetic nine-year-old, | :13:01. | :13:15.
Maisie enjoys playtime at school but her cerebral palsy means she has to | :13:16. | :13:20.
use a walking frame. I can kind of jump with it but I'm not supposed to | :13:21. | :13:26.
because it could tip backwards. Maisie suffered a brain injury after | :13:27. | :13:35.
being born 11 weeks early. Her twin, Alfie, was unaffected. It is not | :13:36. | :13:38.
fair on her that she falls over all the time. Surgeons in Leeds have | :13:39. | :13:48.
been first in the country to carry out a highly complex operation to | :13:49. | :13:53.
help children like Maisie. Cerebral palsy is a condition that affects | :13:54. | :13:56.
muscle control and movement. Is usually caused by an injury to the | :13:57. | :14:03.
brain around the time of birth. Selective dorsal rise to me helps | :14:04. | :14:09.
reduce muscle stiffness and cuts nerves in the spine which makes the | :14:10. | :14:13.
muscles rigid. The procedure is suitable for children between three | :14:14. | :14:19.
and 12 years old. What it can do is move her from using a frame to using | :14:20. | :14:28.
two sticks and then one stick and then independent walking without | :14:29. | :14:32.
AIDS. John and his team have carried out 80 of these operations but NHS | :14:33. | :14:36.
England have told us they are not funding any more until they've | :14:37. | :14:37.
completed an evaluation programme. This means her family and friends | :14:38. | :14:52.
now have to raise ?20,000 to pay for her surgery. It is so frustrating | :14:53. | :14:59.
that for a little girl to be a normal little girl, she has to pay | :15:00. | :15:05.
this money which is what Maisie says, "Why do I have to paid to be | :15:06. | :15:12.
normal like my brother?" Sun-macro hopefully I will be able to run and | :15:13. | :15:17.
jump and walking my princess high heels. The family don't have long to | :15:18. | :15:23.
fund raise as they want to have the operation and intensive | :15:24. | :15:25.
physiotherapy before she secondary school. We mesh them all the very | :15:26. | :15:32.
best. On Wednesday, we will be | :15:33. | :15:51.
broadcasting the programme from Boston where they will be triggering | :15:52. | :15:53.
Article 50. We will be in Boston on Wednesday | :15:54. | :16:20.
night. Thank you for watching. Still ahead... We have all the information | :16:21. | :16:31.
about how you can get to Bob BBC Radio Wales's Big Weekend late in | :16:32. | :16:36.
the year. And Scunthorpe United's win. | :16:37. | :16:52.
We have this picture from Boston tonight. Good evening, young man. | :16:53. | :17:02.
Did you have a good weekend? One person saw me filming on Tuesday | :17:03. | :17:14.
last week. He looked miserable and cold. No real change there. | :17:15. | :17:22.
The lady that saw you on your balcony for your legs were very | :17:23. | :17:30.
white. The headline is not looking too bad. It has been warmer than it | :17:31. | :17:37.
has been. Cloud to come over the next few days. A breeze coming in | :17:38. | :17:43.
from the south-west. This weather friend may bring one or two showers | :17:44. | :17:46.
later in the day but temperatures will be better than the ones we have | :17:47. | :17:51.
had this afternoon. The depressed temperatures, it has broken up to a | :17:52. | :17:56.
certain extent and it will come back in. If you have some cloud breaks at | :17:57. | :18:03.
the moment, they will soon fill in. All parts will be dried tonight. | :18:04. | :18:08.
Perhaps a little bit of patchy fog in places. Let us have a look at | :18:09. | :18:14.
those minimum temperatures. Not terribly exciting. The sun will rise | :18:15. | :18:20.
at 555 AM. It is a dry and cloudy start | :18:21. | :18:33.
tomorrow. Very glad Julie the cloud will break up from the south-west | :18:34. | :18:38.
and afternoon looked pleasant. Bright or sunny intervals. There is | :18:39. | :18:48.
that weak front we talked about. A noticeable improvement in tomorrow | :18:49. | :18:54.
afternoon's temperatures. Temperatures around 14 Celsius. 16 | :18:55. | :19:01.
Celsius is possible in South Lincolnshire. Quite a lot of cloud | :19:02. | :19:10.
on Wednesday. It is bright and breezy on Friday with some sunshine | :19:11. | :19:13.
and one or two showers. That is the forecast. | :19:14. | :19:26.
Have a nice evening. Get those legs tanned. See you tomorrow. | :19:27. | :19:33.
It's been revealed when tickets for Radio One's Big | :19:34. | :19:36.
The free music event is taking place at Burton | :19:37. | :19:39.
50,000 tickets are up for grabs and travel arrangements | :19:40. | :19:43.
The only way onto the site will be via a shuttle bus or park and ride - | :19:44. | :19:50.
Caroline Bilton is live at Burton Constable Hall | :19:51. | :19:54.
Radio One's Big weekend is one of the most anticipated | :19:55. | :20:05.
events of the year - taking place here in the shadow | :20:06. | :20:08.
of the magnificent Burton Constable hall on the 27th and 28th May. | :20:09. | :20:16.
50,000 free tickets will be released during The Radio 1 | :20:17. | :20:18.
Breakfast Show at 9:10am on Monday 10th April. | :20:19. | :20:30.
I use the term, free, loosely as there is a ?8.50 | :20:31. | :20:33.
adminstration fee to pay for each ticket. | :20:34. | :20:39.
Organisers say this is to cover postage and admin costs. | :20:40. | :20:42.
People will also need to pay ?13 to use a shuttle bus | :20:43. | :20:46.
This will be the only way to get onto the site | :20:47. | :20:53.
For safety reasons, people will not be allowed to walk | :20:54. | :20:57.
There will be no on-site parking so people will need | :20:58. | :21:02.
to park their car at a designated park and ride spot at | :21:03. | :21:05.
So in effect a day out at Radio One's Big Weekend | :21:06. | :21:13.
What I say is it's a ten hour world-class musical | :21:14. | :21:27.
festival for around 20 quid and if you compare that | :21:28. | :21:30.
to the V Festival or Reading and Leeds which are 70 or ?80 | :21:31. | :21:33.
or more, I think it still represents really great money. | :21:34. | :21:35.
No one is making any money from this event. | :21:36. | :21:41.
The costs are just to cover the costs of getting | :21:42. | :21:43.
there and getting back and I still think it represents good | :21:44. | :21:46.
They are issued on a first come first served basis. | :21:47. | :21:57.
70% will go to HU postcodes - 25% have been set aside for people | :21:58. | :22:00.
Tickets will be made available online via the Radio 1 website. | :22:01. | :22:04.
Those without internet access will be able to call a hotline | :22:05. | :22:07.
For more details go to the website bbc.co.uk/bigweekend. | :22:08. | :22:24.

record for successive goal kicks during The Robins 28-14 win | :23:12. | :23:13.
This kick made it 41 straight successes levelling the record | :23:14. | :23:17.
He missed the chance to break the record later in the game, | :23:18. | :23:21.
but the Rovers victory leaves them four points clear at the top | :23:22. | :23:24.
There is renewed optimism at Scunthorpe United | :23:25. | :23:27.
following a thrilling win over Bradford City yesterday. | :23:28. | :23:29.
It comes after a miserable run of form which had seen only | :23:30. | :23:32.
one win for the Iron in their previous eleven matches. | :23:33. | :23:35.
Yesterday they staged a comeback that saw them leap | :23:36. | :23:37.
frog their opponents in the League One table. | :23:38. | :23:39.
With just one win in 11 games Scunthorpe United's needed | :23:40. | :23:49.
to stop the slide to keep promotion hopes alive. | :23:50. | :23:51.
Ivan Toney gave the iron and early lead but it didn't last Kevin Toner | :23:52. | :23:55.
equalised for Bradford City and just two minutes later Alex Jones | :23:56. | :23:57.
After the break the thrilling contest turned again and Toney's | :23:58. | :24:11.
second Scunthorpe United goal brought them level | :24:12. | :24:12.
With a late header Matt Crooks earned the Iron all three points, | :24:13. | :24:21.
putting them above Bradford City in the chase for | :24:22. | :24:23.
There were signs in there that we were back to the heights that we | :24:24. | :24:41.
have set ourselves. We have the result and we take their positivity | :24:42. | :24:45.
forward into next week. Sun-macro scoring goals is what we want. | :24:46. | :24:50.
Managed to do that today. We need to get the win and we got it today. | :24:51. | :25:02.
Very good atmosphere and a really good game. First half wasn't so | :25:03. | :25:14.
good. We need to keep playing the way we did in the second half and | :25:15. | :25:17.
promotion is definitely on the cards. | :25:18. | :25:23.
The Iron now sit fourth in the table | :25:24. | :25:25.
and face seventh placed Milwall on Saturday. | :25:26. | :25:29.
We told you about this on Friday night as thousands of music fans | :25:30. | :25:32.
in Hull were preparing for the first ever live performances | :25:33. | :25:35.
of David Bowie's album Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders | :25:36. | :25:37.
Both nights at the City Hall were completely sold out. | :25:38. | :25:41.
The band featured the last surviving Spiders from Mars member, | :25:42. | :25:43.
Woody Woodmansey, who is from East Yorkshire. | :25:44. | :25:52.
Fantastic. Waited many years to see this. I closed my eyes and doing | :25:53. | :26:01.
life on Mars, it made me want to cry. To think there was existing | :26:02. | :26:10.
band members that were there today and David Bowie, it was really | :26:11. | :26:14.
moving a fabulous. Extraordinary really fantastic. Apparently it was | :26:15. | :26:20.
two great nights. Let's get a recap of the national | :26:21. | :26:22.
and regional headlines. Theresa May says she hasn't | :26:23. | :26:25.
changed her mind about another independence referendum for Scotland | :26:26. | :26:27.
- she wants to keep the UK together. Personnel from RAF Coningsby begin | :26:28. | :26:30.
preparations for their Turning brighter later, | :26:31. | :26:32.
with sunny spells developing but also with a risk | :26:33. | :26:36.
of isolated showers. Warmer, with high's | :26:37. | :26:38.

in on the subject. Jean says is a Ukip membership, I can assure you we | :27:06. | :27:10.

oxygen stop Barry says having been instrumental in badgering the | :27:22. | :27:25.
country into Brexit, the sooner you can disappear the better. Mike says | :27:26. | :27:29.
Ukip have a brilliant feature as an alternative to more of the same. As | :27:30. | :27:33.
for irrelevance, one could say the same for the Lib Dems. Thank you for | :27:34. | :27:38.
those and for watching. Have a nice evening. Johnny at 10:30pm. Goodbye. | :27:39. | :27:41. |
