An elderly lady, a care worker and a binman have been praised | :00:09. | :00:12.
as heroes for wrestling what they believed to be an armed | :00:13. | :00:18.
Witnesses in Hedon in East Yorkshire say the man forced a driver out | :00:19. | :00:24.
of his car at gunpoint early this morning. | :00:25. | :00:27.
Police say it was one of at least four attempted carjackings | :00:28. | :00:30.
involving two men in Hull and the East Riding, | :00:31. | :00:33.
It was a dramatic start to the day on normally-quiet Fletcher Gate. | :00:34. | :00:40.
The driver of this car was on his way to work as usual | :00:41. | :00:44.
A guy came from that red Audi over there with a gun in his hand, | :00:45. | :00:49.
pointing the gun at me, and shouting to get out of the car. | :00:50. | :00:52.
I didn't comply straightaway because I was in a bit | :00:53. | :00:55.
He hit the gun on the window of the car, and told me | :00:56. | :01:02.
So I got out of the car, moved to the back of | :01:03. | :01:06.
He couldn't drive it away because he couldn't | :01:07. | :01:10.
operate an automatic, so he was just revving it. | :01:11. | :01:12.
As he realised the car wasn't going anywhere, | :01:13. | :01:16.
he tried to get out of the car, and opened the door just as this | :01:17. | :01:19.
lorry came past to block him in, and the lorry hit the door. | :01:20. | :01:23.
The driver of the bin lorry was actually filling | :01:24. | :01:25.
in for a colleague who was away on holiday and took a split-second | :01:26. | :01:28.
He's not going anywhere, sort of thing. | :01:29. | :01:36.
Let's get in front of him and he can't escape. | :01:37. | :01:38.
Then at that point when we'd stopped the vehicle, | :01:39. | :01:40.
People were dragging him out of that 4x4 and wrestling him to the ground, | :01:41. | :01:46.
The binmen who thought they had seen the man brandishing a gun, | :01:47. | :01:51.
but still rushed to help people who had pushed into the ground. | :01:52. | :01:55.
This care worker says she and another lady | :01:56. | :01:57.
Some old woman ran across, and then I ran across, | :01:58. | :02:02.
and then the next thing I knew we are all piling | :02:03. | :02:04.
Everyone rallied round, everyone that was walking | :02:05. | :02:09.
Everyone jumped out, and everyone was really good. | :02:10. | :02:14.
The morning's events are the talk of Hedon. | :02:15. | :02:16.
We asked people what they thought of those who rushed to help. | :02:17. | :02:19.
Brave. Very, very brave, honestly. | :02:20. | :02:24.
They shouldn't do it. Really? | :02:25. | :02:25.
By lunchtime the street he was back to normal, | :02:26. | :02:37.
the vehicles removed, car window glass swept off the road, | :02:38. | :02:40.
but it's a morning that people round here won't forget. | :02:41. | :02:44.
Humberside Police have this evening told us more about what has | :02:45. | :02:48.
happened across Hull, Hedon and Hessle, they've had four | :02:49. | :02:51.
reports of cars being stolen, including a possible van by two men | :02:52. | :02:55.
There have also been some reports of attempted thefts as well, | :02:56. | :03:02.
and a 23-year-old man has been arrested and remains | :03:03. | :03:04.
Katie Austin, BBC Look North in Hedon. | :03:05. | :03:08.
Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner | :03:09. | :03:10.
has given his backing to a new taser stun gun. | :03:11. | :03:12.
The Government has authorised police to be equipped with the more | :03:13. | :03:15.
powerful tasers, which carry two stun probes instead of one, | :03:16. | :03:17.
Marc Jones welcomed the move, saying it's vital officers have | :03:18. | :03:21.
the right tools to protect themselves and the public. | :03:22. | :03:30.
Thousands of women who thought they would be able to retire at 60 | :03:31. | :03:33.
are to protest in London, after changes left them | :03:34. | :03:35.
waiting till they reach 66 to get the state pension. | :03:36. | :03:38.
The Government says it has no plans to compensate them. | :03:39. | :03:42.
Now a campaign called Waspi is taking women from East Yorkshire | :03:43. | :03:46.
and Lincolnshire to hold a demo on Budget Day. | :03:47. | :03:49.
More from our political editor Tim Iredale. | :03:50. | :03:55.
When the welfare state was created, it promised a guaranteed pension | :03:56. | :03:57.
for everyone who paid National Insurance throughout | :03:58. | :04:01.
but a number of women in their 60s claim they've been short-changed | :04:02. | :04:06.
by changes to the way their state pensions are calculated. | :04:07. | :04:10.
Rosemary Jordan, a former teacher from Scunthorpe, is one of them. | :04:11. | :04:15.
Somebody who is a year younger than myself has already | :04:16. | :04:17.
My sister-in-law was born in May '53, | :04:18. | :04:21.
and she got her state pension in November. | :04:22. | :04:23.
I was born in February '54, I've got to wait another 2.5 years. | :04:24. | :04:26.
The issue mainly affects women who were born in the 1950s. | :04:27. | :04:34.
Traditionally, the retirement age was 65 for men and 60 for women, | :04:35. | :04:39.
but in 1995 the Government decided the state pension age should become | :04:40. | :04:43.
equal for both men and women - this would be phased in | :04:44. | :04:46.
But in 2011 it was decided to raise the state pension age again, | :04:47. | :04:52.
and some women who originally thought they could retire at 60 | :04:53. | :04:55.
are now facing the prospect of working until they're 66. | :04:56. | :05:01.
For many of the women in Hull Waspi Voice, | :05:02. | :05:03.
some women actually took redundancy and early retirement and then | :05:04. | :05:05.
discovered they weren't going to get their pensions from the state. | :05:06. | :05:09.
Some of them are talking about the physical and mental strain | :05:10. | :05:12.
of carrying on working in the roles that they've been employed in | :05:13. | :05:15.
for six more years, when they never thought | :05:16. | :05:19.
You pay out! We paid in! | :05:20. | :05:24.
The Government says everyone was told about these changes - | :05:25. | :05:27.
If I had been properly informed I would have done additional | :05:28. | :05:33.
financial arrangements for my pension. | :05:34. | :05:35.
But many campaigners are determined to make their voices heard | :05:36. | :05:51.
and they are planning the biggest protest so far to coincide with | :05:52. | :05:55.
One of Lincoln's oldest stores is to close, | :05:56. | :06:05.
blaming internet shopping and Brexit, | :06:06. | :06:06.
but, it says, mainly a lack of parking in Lincoln. | :06:07. | :06:09.
Ruddocks is a family business that's over 150 years old. | :06:10. | :06:14.
It's been on the High Street in the city for more than a century. | :06:15. | :06:19.
If Lincoln City Council actually did have a strategy... | :06:20. | :06:21.
I don't think they do, but if they did have a strategy | :06:22. | :06:24.
for strangling the centre of Lincoln, it wouldn't look much | :06:25. | :06:30.
The City of Lincoln Council says it's sad to see Ruddocks close, | :06:31. | :06:37.
but doesn't accept that that parking in the city is the | :06:38. | :06:39.
Now let's take a look at the weather. | :06:40. | :06:48.
Hello again. Good evening. | :06:49. | :06:51.
We are seeing that very heavy rain track up towards the north, | :06:52. | :06:53.
still a couple of heavy outbursts, though, | :06:54. | :06:55.
and not ruling out the rumble of thunder overnight as well. | :06:56. | :06:58.
But, as we head through to the early hours, it will have largely cleared | :06:59. | :07:01.
and we will be looking at quite a bright picture. | :07:02. | :07:04.
Quite cloudy, though, and those temperatures will only | :07:05. | :07:05.
So, through the morning, it may be a cloudy start. | :07:06. | :07:10.
We could even see some rain, particularly along the east coast, | :07:11. | :07:12.
but, I think, through the afternoon, a largely dry afternoon with some | :07:13. | :07:15.
decent sunny spells for this time of year. | :07:16. | :07:17.
Temperatures will get up to around 10 Celsius. | :07:18. | :07:20.
We'll be back tomorrow afternoon at 5.50pm. | :07:21. | :07:23.
Until then, have a very good weekend. | :07:24. | :07:25.
Good evening, mixed fortunes this weekend. Today we saw a fair share | :07:26. | :07:47.
of rain. This is the view one of our weather watchers in Doncaster. Not | :07:48. | :07:52.
particularly inspiring. This weekend there will be some rain, but some of | :07:53. | :07:58.
us will get away with a dry start. This is the satellite and a lovely | :07:59. | :08:04.
day in northern Scotland. But cloud and rain and thunder and lightning | :08:05. | :08:14.
in this area. Our main area of rain is stuck across Northern Ireland and | :08:15. | :08:20.
Scotland. Some snow over higher ground. And windy. | :08:21. | :08:23. |
