Anti-Fracking protestors have set up a camp in North Yorkshire

near the site which is expected to be the first in the country

to extract gas using the controversial process.

They plan to use it as a base to stop lorries delivering equipment

Their action follows the failure of a legal challenge to overturn

Today's roadside protests are, according to the anti-frackers,

They have also set up camp a mile or so from the site where

planning permission has been permitted to start the first

commercial extraction of gas using the controversial technique

After failing in everything that we have tried in the last two years,

It is all about boots on the ground and direct action.

We are hoping that, after Christmas, many of our friends and

community members will come to this big field, camp

where we are going to create a huge camp,

where we are going to stop this industry before it gets started.

Gas has been extracted from the same site, using

conventional drilling, for over two decades.

North Yorkshire County Council granted planning

permission to the same production company earlier this year to sink

a new well alongside, for fracking -

pumping highly-pressurised water and sand, to free gas trapped deep

underground in beds of The rules shale.

A last-ditch legal attempt to overturn the planning

permission for fracking by campaign groups on safety and environmental

grounds was thrown out the High Court a few weeks ago.

The HGV traffic has to come this way and we

will do our utmost to, peacefully, and slow walk the traffic

making its way to the site, to make it as difficult as possible

The gas production company Third Energy has maintained,

through two years of planning and legal processes, that

It says fracking poses no potential dangers

and intends to start preparing for production in the near future.

People here say they shouldn't be called protesters,

they are protectors of the environment against our

political and legal system that they say has failed.

In a statement, the fracking company told us, "Third Energy respects

people's right to lawful and peaceful protest.

We trust that those who object to our plans will also

respect our rights, and the rights of Ryedale residents,

to go about our business lawfully and peacefully."

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in Scarborough.

It comes after another man, in his late 40s, was found dead

at a property in St Johns Avenue in the town yesterday evening.

A 51-year-old Scarborough man is being questioned by the police.

Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted two teenagers

The man approached the girls, then carried out the serious sexual

assault in a phone box on Pottery Lane at about 10.30.

The man left the area in a White VW Golf in

North Yorkshire Police are investigating a bed

manufacturer following the death of a seven-month-old baby in York.

Playtime Beds has issued a safety warning on its website,

stating that its made-to-measure beds could lead to risks

of strangulation or crushing and should not be used.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed

by a group of teenagers in a Hartlepool shopping centre.

It happened yesterday afternoon in the Middleton Grange Centre.

The man, in his 30s, was left with cuts and two black eyes.

The teenagers made off with his cash.

Police would like to speak to a good Samaritan,

who tried to stop the attack and may also have been injured.

For their critics, they were the ugliest

buildings in Newcastle - two concrete structures scarring

The Newgate Shopping Centre and Swallow Hotel were put up

on Newgate Street in the late 60s, when concrete was definitely

The entire 109-mile trail over the North York Moors National Park

The Park Authority's mapped the whole route,

with volunteers carrying a Google Trekker camera.

They captured the 360-degree images over a seven-month period,

showcasing the beauty of the moors and coast.

The beauty is that you will be able to look at it from your fawn or your

house and be able to see exactly what the terrain is like, plan your

route and maybe arrange to meet people. It passes through some of

the most iconic countryside in this part of the country.
