Good evening. A couple from Leeds have spoken out about the stigma and

isolation that's often felt by Asian families who have children with

learning disabilities. Sarbjit Core and Jatinder Singh`Mehmi say they've

come up against a lot of ignorance, including the belief that they've

been cursed, simply because their son Gian has Down's syndrome. Anna

Crossley has been to meet the family.

Three`year`old Gian is a familiar face at his local temple in Leeds.

His parents have been bringing him here to worship since he was a baby.

Although Sarbjit and Jatinder say they have always been made to feel

welcome here, people's reactions from elsewhere in the Sikh community

have not always been positive, just because Gian has Down's syndrome.

We've read things in books saying children born with disabilities,

it's a curse; it's something they've done bad in their previous life and

it's a punishment. People think it is a disease and they gave us advice

on how to cure it. It's not a disease. It's something that he's

got but it doesn't define his whole personality. Sarbjit and Jatinder

clearly receive a lot of support from within their own temple but

they also want to let other parents know that there is other available

in the wider community, and that cultural differences will be treated

sensitively. Ailith Harley`Roberts runs a Down's syndrome support group

in Leeds and says they welcome everyone, irrespective of ethnicity

and religious beliefs. We realise that people don't necessarily want

to come to a group and it might not be the right time for them to come

to a group situation, so we do also say that we're very happy to meet

people at home and talk about support they would find helpful.

It's a culturally sensitive issue, but Sarbjit and Jatinder feel it's

important to reassure other parents that there's support out there, and

that having a child with a learning disability is not a curse or a

punishment. The Attorney General has lost his

appeal against what he described as the lenient sentence given to a

Sheffield ice`cream maker who kept another man as a slave. Dominic

Grieve was attempting to increase the six`and`a`half year jail term

handed to David Rooke for false imprisonment and assault. He was

convicted in January this year of keeping Craig Kinsella, a man with

learning difficulties, in his garage and forcing him to live like a

modern`day slave. But the Court of Appeal ruled the sentence wasn't too

low. 22 people have now been identified

as suspects at the centre of the two ongoing inquiries into the

Hillsborough disaster in 1989. 96 Liverpool football fans died at the

Sheffield Wednesday ground. A mix of serving and retired police officers

as well as others working for other organisations at the time are being

interviewed. Alleged offences include manslaughter, misconduct in

a public office and perverting the course of justice.

Now, Sheffield steel is known around the world, and it used to be found

on golf courses everywhere before other metals came into use. Well,

now a Rotherham company is aiming to put Sheffield steel clubs back on

the fairway. The only handicap is that their prototype has been deemed

too risky for conventional financial backing. Our business correspondent

Danni Hewson reports. Precision comes as standard at

Newburgh engineering, from aerospace to military projects. The core

business is booming, but despite their proven track record a new

scheme to make golf clubs has struggled to get off the ground. A

hangover from the credit crunch, finding finance is stopping

innovation at the first tee. Most financial people just don't

understand it so they tend to move away from things they don't

understand, and if they cannot see an immediate return. It has been

difficult to raise money and we have tried to get funding from various

routes and failed. We are going out to Kickstarter, a crowd funding

site, and anyone can take part in the project. From Monday, anyone can

pledge money to the project but only those offering ?1,000 will get one

of the putters. But then these are slice of history and if the project

fails, the only other way you will get them made is in an auction

house. I'm not a golfer but I'm told this could bring about a new era,

repatriating golf club production to South Yorkshire with that

all`important made in Sheffield stamp. So why now after so many

years is steel making it back on the fairway? We can do it because we

have the technology, the materials and the reputation. Big dreams, now

they just need the cash. In the next 90 minutes, a same`sex

couple from Sheffield will become one of the first the country to get

married. Richie Wood and Kyle Emerson met seven years ago, but

organised their big day at Sheffield town hall in just 26 days. They're

celebrating in reverse order, with the wedding breakfast taking place

as we speak, and the ceremony just after midnight, when same`sex

marriage becomes legal. As much as it is about gaining

equality for us, it is about the commitment we are entering into, and

just the fact you have to call it a civil partnership as opposed to a

marriage automatically gives you a barrier and segregates you in the

community. We are just so excited we now have the opportunity and the

chance to get married. Onto sport now, and in Superleague

tonight Leeds Rhinos have been taking on Saint Helens in a top of

the table clash. Both teams were unbeaten so far this season and a

win for the Rhinos would have seen them go top, but in a closely`fought

match it was an injury`hit Saints side that emerged as winners. The

final score, 14`10 to Saint Helens, with the winning try from Tom

Makinson in the dying minutes of the game. It has been a dull foremost,

here is the weather forecast. Right now, a lot of cloud across

Yorkshire, but we will pull drier air the continent on Saturday

afternoon, and Sunday afternoon is looking promising too. Some rain

across the south`east for a time, and hill fog as well with

temperatures down to five or six degrees. A grey, damp start to

Saturday, but very slowly that cloud breaks up from the south`east and

tomorrow afternoon most places will be sunny, inland becoming really

quite warm. The coast will be a good deal cooler with a breeze, and it is

a similar forecast on Sunday. A grey start with lots of sunshine later.

Hello. The clocks go forward this weekend, marking the beginning of

British summertime, BST. It has nothing to do with the weather. As

the clocks changed last year we were coming out of the March freeze.

This year, though, as the clucks change, the weather is warming up.
