This week we've been hearing from people whose homes

:00:11.:00:19.

and businesses were destroyed by the Boxing Day floods.

:00:20.:00:21.

The Calder Valley was one of the worst affected.

:00:22.:00:24.

A year on and a fund set up to help future flood victims has now

:00:25.:00:27.

raised more than a quarter of a million pounds.

:00:28.:00:29.

Its designed to help anyone who needs it,

:00:30.:00:31.

including those who can't get insurance, and it could be rolled

:00:32.:00:34.

Today they can reach for the rafters, but 12 months ago

:00:35.:00:41.

this climbing gym in Brighouse had a huge cleaning job on their hands.

:00:42.:00:44.

It just rose and rose throughout the day until the water was sort

:00:45.:00:49.

All we could do was make sure everybody was out.

:00:50.:00:52.

We just got in the following day and cleaned up and all

:00:53.:00:55.

of this that you see here was completely destroyed.

:00:56.:00:59.

The team here know full well the heartache and

:01:00.:01:01.

Now the owner has designed something new for a scheme that could help

:01:02.:01:07.

Why would gin help make people more resilient against flooding?

:01:08.:01:11.

A couple of friends and I, all chemists, have created this

:01:12.:01:14.

amazing gin and as you know, we were flooded, so the idea

:01:15.:01:17.

is to give up a proportion of the profits to the Watermark

:01:18.:01:20.

The objective is to grow our business and give money back

:01:21.:01:25.

into the Watermark Fund and it's too good an opportunity for both,

:01:26.:01:29.

Businesses around the Calder Valley are quite literally

:01:30.:01:37.

saving for a rainy day and it is in their interest to do it

:01:38.:01:40.

as well because for so many of them it is almost impossible to get

:01:41.:01:44.

For others it is a coffee, maybe a Christmas card or some events.

:01:45.:01:49.

Part or all of the profits are paid into the Watermark Fund.

:01:50.:01:53.

We have put it together on this tea towel.

:01:54.:01:56.

It all came from an idea by Chris Sands who now hopes

:01:57.:01:59.

it could be taken up around the country.

:02:00.:02:01.

Anyone can contribute even if they have no chance

:02:02.:02:04.

of being flooded and a lot of people are doing that just

:02:05.:02:07.

because they want their place where they live to be sustainable

:02:08.:02:11.

The Watermark team are hoping this winter will be kinder

:02:12.:02:20.

to Calderdale, but if the water does rise again, they will

:02:21.:02:23.

The widower of murdered MP Jo Cox will deliver this year's alternative

:02:24.:02:31.

Mrs Cox was killed in her Bately and Spen constituency in June.

:02:32.:02:38.

Brendan Cox will call for an end to the "rise of hatred"

:02:39.:02:41.

The demolition of Scarborough's Futurist Theatre could cost up

:02:42.:02:48.

to ?4 million according to a report out today.

:02:49.:02:51.

The town's council set out plans for how the seafront building

:02:52.:02:54.

will be knocked down and the cliffs behind it stablilised.

:02:55.:02:57.

Campaigners have been fighting a long battle to save the historic

:02:58.:03:01.

theatre which Flamingoland want to redevelop as

:03:02.:03:04.

Councils in Yorkshire are to share more than ?6 million to help

:03:05.:03:11.

The government money is being given to areas which have high levels

:03:12.:03:16.

of second home ownership, which it says is reducing housing

:03:17.:03:18.

If you have got a village where local young people that you need to

:03:19.:03:36.

work in the shop or manual lifeboat cannot afford a home in that

:03:37.:03:41.

village, it is a huge problem. It can lead to communities that outside

:03:42.:03:45.

of the summer season can be almost dormitories communities.

:03:46.:03:49.

A bid has been submitted for the Bradford Bulls

:03:50.:03:51.

who are in administration for the third time in four years.

:03:52.:03:54.

After lengthy talks with the Rugby Football League

:03:55.:03:56.

a consortium put their offer in this morning.

:03:57.:03:57.

We understand the RFL is happy with the deal.

:03:58.:04:00.

It's now up to the administrator to decide whether or not to accept.

:04:01.:04:03.

A group of faith leaders from different religions have

:04:04.:04:05.

gathered together to make Christmas hampers for refugees.

:04:06.:04:07.

Muslims, Sikhs and Christians have all been involved

:04:08.:04:09.

It's hoped it will bring the community together

:04:10.:04:13.

Care, compassion and Christmas dinner. That is what has brought

:04:14.:04:27.

these people together in Bradford. The group Muslim Hands has worked

:04:28.:04:35.

with local Christian and seek communities to make hampers for

:04:36.:04:41.

refugees this Christmas. Throughout all of our religions, compassion and

:04:42.:04:45.

helping the needy and service to humanity is so important and for

:04:46.:04:50.

those new communities that are coming here, Bradford is a city

:04:51.:04:55.

wants to demonstrate that. And the common threads of Christmas cuisine

:04:56.:05:00.

are all here. Potatoes, carrots, mince pies and of course the

:05:01.:05:04.

Brussels sprouts. It is a traditional Christmas dinner, so we

:05:05.:05:07.

are hoping everybody will know what to do with the Brussels sprouts.

:05:08.:05:12.

There might be some curried Brussels sprouts will stop the hampers go to

:05:13.:05:17.

refugees and asylum seekers in your chair. This lady came here as a

:05:18.:05:22.

refugee from the Congo four years ago and the hamper gives her an

:05:23.:05:26.

opportunity to celebrate her Christian faith. I am so happy that

:05:27.:05:32.

people come to see me. Thank you so much. I am so happy for this. And

:05:33.:05:39.

the season of goodwill extends as the faith leaders will be serving a

:05:40.:05:43.

meal to those in need on Christmas Day. Some happy faces. It is a Merry

:05:44.:05:52.

Christmas from me, let's take a look at the weather for the big weekend.

:05:53.:05:58.

It has been a very windy day and gusts of 60 mph have been recorded

:05:59.:06:06.

in Sheffield. The rest of the weekend does look rather blustery.

:06:07.:06:11.

Tomorrow on Christmas eve it is rather blustery with a mix of

:06:12.:06:15.

sunshine and showers. On Christmas Day itself this storm affects the UK

:06:16.:06:23.

and a cold front will bring a short spell of heavy rain and it will

:06:24.:06:28.

It looks very mild for Christmas Day It looks very mild for Christmas Day

:06:29.:06:33.

as well with temperatures in the low teens. It is a chilly night at the

:06:34.:06:38.

moment with some showers pushing through, temperatures dropping down

:06:39.:06:44.

to four or 5 degrees. Tomorrow is a blustery day and a fair few showers

:06:45.:06:48.

in the morning, particularly in northern and western powers. In

:06:49.:06:53.

between the showers there will be some sunshine, but it will feel

:06:54.:06:58.

chilly in the breeze and it will feel cooler than yesterday with the

:06:59.:07:03.

rain approaching by the evening. As we mentioned, on Christmas Day

:07:04.:07:08.

itself it is looking mild. A bit of drizzle in the morning, later in the

:07:09.:07:13.

afternoon we are looking at a spell of heavy rain spreading from the

:07:14.:07:17.

North. Through the afternoon the wind picks up, so windy rather than

:07:18.:07:23.

white on Christmas Day. Things settle down for Boxing Day with a

:07:24.:07:27.

bit of form for next week. That is it.

:07:28.:07:32.

big day? Christmas Day. It will stay mild and temperatures could reach

:07:33.:07:36.

14, 15. He is down bet that the national picture.

:07:37.:07:42.

It will be more northern parts of the UK that see the worst of the

:07:43.:07:52.

weather. Another storm is developing in the Atlantic. This will turn

:07:53.:07:53.
