Paramedics in Yorkshire are warning that users of the banned drug Spice

:00:11.:00:17.

are putting themselves and health staff at risk by taking the drug.

:00:18.:00:20.

They say the unpredictable effects of it on users is making their job

:00:21.:00:23.

harder and putting them at risk of assault.

:00:24.:00:25.

Cathy Killick has more on this story - a warning, her report contains

:00:26.:00:28.

In Leeds city centre, Spice isn't hard to find.

:00:29.:00:31.

Adam and Derek use it regularly, despite its unpredictable effects.

:00:32.:00:33.

A really, really, really bad trip on a certain type of Spice,

:00:34.:00:36.

which is a little bit rare, is where your heart's pumping

:00:37.:00:41.

out your chest and you feel like you're going to,

:00:42.:00:43.

you know, your heart's going to explode.

:00:44.:00:45.

Since the ban's came in, I think it's easier to get hold

:00:46.:00:49.

The drug sometimes causes users to enter a zombie-like state,

:00:50.:00:55.

but it can also cause psychotic episodes that paramedics find

:00:56.:00:57.

Spitting, biting, punching, kicking, those kind of things

:00:58.:01:03.

are what paramedics have to put up with.

:01:04.:01:05.

for people to realise that, actually, this substance,

:01:06.:01:09.

whatever it is you're taking, you've no idea

:01:10.:01:11.

And unfortunately, that's what we are seeing.

:01:12.:01:15.

At the Lighthouse Project in Leeds, users themselves also

:01:16.:01:18.

I was a heroin user 17 years ago, I've been cleaned up about 17 years.

:01:19.:01:30.

It's gone underground, if you like, and, anecdotally,

:01:31.:01:31.

I think supply is still readily available, and, unfortunately,

:01:32.:01:34.

That's created a toxic trap, with users succumbing very quickly

:01:35.:01:37.

to its extremely addictive properties and straining health

:01:38.:01:41.

Cathy Killick, BBC Look North, Leeds.

:01:42.:01:47.

Three people have died in South Yorkshire following what's

:01:48.:01:50.

South Yorkshire Police have issued a warning following the deaths

:01:51.:01:54.

of two men aged 33 and 40 in Barnsley, and a 47-year-old woman

:01:55.:01:59.

Two further men have been arrested on suspicion of supply

:02:00.:02:04.

A large area of parkland in Leeds city centre remains cordoned

:02:05.:02:10.

off by police tonight following an assault in the early

:02:11.:02:14.

Police were called to the Woodhouse Moor area,

:02:15.:02:17.

at around 4am after reports that a woman, thought to be

:02:18.:02:20.

Forensic experts are expected to remain at the scene overnight.

:02:21.:02:26.

Sheffield is celebrating its 40th World Snooker Championship today.

:02:27.:02:30.

The Crucible Theatre has hosted the tournament since 1977

:02:31.:02:34.

and the contenders for the trophy this year have been gathering

:02:35.:02:36.

James Vincent has been in Sheffield for a look.

:02:37.:02:45.

What do you call a group of snooker players then?

:02:46.:02:47.

Yeah, let's go with a frame of snooker players.

:02:48.:02:54.

16 of them are out in the sun today to mark

:02:55.:02:56.

the 40th anniversary of the World Snooker

:02:57.:02:58.

Looks like you needed a frame to wrangle them all together.

:02:59.:03:02.

They're inside the home of snooker for the pre-tournament media day.

:03:03.:03:05.

Ding Junhui has lived in the city for ten years now.

:03:06.:03:08.

He says this is a home tournament for him.

:03:09.:03:10.

Yeah, it's great city, and I love this.

:03:11.:03:13.

It is not much chance, the players can play the home towns

:03:14.:03:16.

I love the people, people in Sheffield, it's nice,

:03:17.:03:21.

and this is special for me, because, you know, I love here,

:03:22.:03:28.

In a few hours' time, we will have 17 days of world-class

:03:29.:03:35.

They have been here for four decades.

:03:36.:03:40.

You know what they say, life begins at 40.

:03:41.:03:43.

We will have at least ten more years of the World

:03:44.:03:45.

If it moved from here, it would lose a bit of prestige

:03:46.:03:49.

and what the tournament is, you know.

:03:50.:03:51.

If you speak to anyone, saying the World Championship Snooker,

:03:52.:03:53.

everyone knows it's played at The Crucible.

:03:54.:03:55.

If it was to move, it would be a shame.

:03:56.:03:57.

Great news, as you say, for an extra ten years

:03:58.:04:00.

we're having it here, which is fantastic.

:04:01.:04:02.

Earlier this evening hundreds turned out to welcome some of the legends

:04:03.:04:04.

of the game, as they walked down the "green" carpet,

:04:05.:04:07.

Sheffield's putting on a bit of a show this year

:04:08.:04:12.

The next two weeks - well, they're up to the players.

:04:13.:04:15.

James Vincent, BBC Look North, Sheffield.

:04:16.:04:19.

In tonight's Championship football, Leeds United remain in the play-offs

:04:20.:04:21.

after a nail-biting night at St James's Park.

:04:22.:04:25.

After a first half in which neither side could find an opening,

:04:26.:04:28.

Leeds were caught out when Newcastle's Lascelles headed

:04:29.:04:32.

the ball over the line, despite the efforts of Green.

:04:33.:04:35.

But Leeds pressed for the equaliser and their persistence paid off.

:04:36.:04:38.

In the very last minute of extra time, striker

:04:39.:04:41.

Leeds United take back fourth place in the table.

:04:42.:04:47.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Huddersfield Town won

:04:48.:04:49.

Rotherham got a 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham,

:04:50.:04:54.

and Sheffield Wednesday beat Cardfiff, 1-0.

:04:55.:04:57.

In League One, Bradford beat Oxford, 1-0.

:04:58.:05:00.

Chesterfield suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Southend,

:05:01.:05:03.

And in League Two, Doncaster drew 1-1 with Colchester.

:05:04.:05:17.

No let's take a look at the weather with Paul Mooney.

:05:18.:05:20.

And the Easter weekend is nearly upon us -

:05:21.:05:23.

Well, any remaining showers will tend to die away

:05:24.:05:28.

Clear spells developing, and under those clear

:05:29.:05:31.

skies and lighter winds, we will see temperatures dipping

:05:32.:05:33.

to a fairly chilly 2 C or 3 C in one or two spots.

:05:34.:05:36.

So, a bit of a nip in the air firs thing tomorrow, and it's a day

:05:37.:05:40.

So, a bit of a nip in the air first thing tomorrow, and it's a day

:05:41.:05:45.

Most places will have decent sunny spells,

:05:46.:05:48.

one or two showers coming through on that brisk

:05:49.:05:50.

north-westerly wind, which will make it feel quite cool.

:05:51.:05:52.

Top temperature only around 11 C, 52 F.

:05:53.:05:53.

For Easter Sunday, a lot of cloud around, outbreaks of rain

:05:54.:05:56.

That is the way it's looking, I'll leave

:05:57.:05:59.

Good evening. I don't think everybody was a happy bunny today

:06:00.:06:16.

with the weather. We had some rain. Some of it was on the

:06:17.:06:17.
